- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Mark Simone Show, Live from the
- 0:03Speaker 1: w o R Life Back studios. Well, we now turn
- 0:10Speaker 1: to the Joe DiMaggio Radio, the greatest Living DJ, the
- 0:14Speaker 1: legend himself him laughing. All right, nobody's laughing, Scott Shannon,
- 0:19Speaker 1: you are the greatest living news.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it just sounds crazy. I'm living. I got that,
- 0:26Speaker 2: that's true. I got that going.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:30Speaker 2: What a week.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Huh yeah, So it's too much, too many things going
- 0:35Speaker 1: on in New York. But you know I was empty.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, go ahead.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I was never a basketball fan. I don't think I've
- 0:41Speaker 1: ever watched a basketball game in my life. But I
- 0:43Speaker 1: got hooked on the Knicks. I'm watching every minute of
- 0:45Speaker 1: the game.
- 0:48Speaker 2: See a little late getting on the train. I guess yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 2: the train left the station and you're hanging on the caboose.
- 1:00Speaker 1: The only one who wasn't really a best job.
- 1:02Speaker 2: There there were. There were plenty of new fans, believe me.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Fifty three years went to eleven presidents, the Internet, smartphones, COVID,
- 1:13Speaker 2: and finally the Knicks are on top again.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Do you know the last time they want to? Last
- 1:20Speaker 1: time they won the championship? The number one record was
- 1:22Speaker 1: tie A yellow ribbon around the old oak tree.
- 1:25Speaker 2: That's correct. That it's correct. You know, it's kind of
- 1:29Speaker 2: weird too, because, uh, it's the wedding season right now,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and every Saturday all around the country there are weddings
- 1:39Speaker 2: planned when people and all the fans, you know, all
- 1:45Speaker 2: the Knicks fans. When it came time to wait a minute,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we got to go to that wedding. Holy crap, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: we were Patricia and I were like that. So a
- 1:58Speaker 2: friend of ours, one of the marraw boys, Steve, and
- 2:02Speaker 2: his wonderful wife Nancy. They've got six kids, good Catholics,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and they're five of them are girls. So he spent
- 2:12Speaker 2: a lot of money on weddings. This was his last one,
- 2:15Speaker 2: Cassidy is their name, and it was at the Saint
- 2:19Speaker 2: Regi's ballroom.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You have been in that hotel, yes, right over there,
- 2:24Speaker 1: block away.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So I'm sitting I'm thinking, what the hell am I
- 2:29Speaker 2: going to do that? And I called the bar. There's
- 2:32Speaker 2: a little I got a nice bar there. The king
- 2:36Speaker 2: was this King Cold Yeah, So I called, I said,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you guys are going any TV's ready to go for
- 2:42Speaker 2: the game goes? So we don't have televisions in the
- 2:46Speaker 2: King Cold Bar. Thank you for calling.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So wait, it's twenty twenty six. You can watch on
- 2:55Speaker 1: your phone.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, but that looks a little rude, wanted.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So when I got there, I saw Steve and I said,
- 3:06Speaker 2: they're going to be offensive if ill my father. He said,
- 3:09Speaker 2: You're not gonna have to worry about that, man, I
- 3:11Speaker 2: got you taken care of. He had made arrangements that
- 3:14Speaker 2: have two big screen TVs, put one on eat, one
- 3:19Speaker 2: on each side of the bar for the up in
- 3:21Speaker 2: the ballroom. So excellent, I looked at her. But the
- 3:25Speaker 2: problem there was one other problem though, they had where
- 3:27Speaker 2: I didn't go to the postgame party. Uh, they had
- 3:31Speaker 2: those alleys, they have these extra parties. But there were
- 3:34Speaker 2: a lot of people from different places around the country
- 3:38Speaker 2: that came in for for the groom Max and Cassidy
- 3:42Speaker 2: really both of the school and all that. But the
- 3:46Speaker 2: problem is a lot of these people were they had
- 3:48Speaker 2: to go to the postgame party and then they had
- 3:52Speaker 2: to go to their hotel. But the problem is, if
- 3:55Speaker 2: you recall what was going on in the streets, in
- 3:58Speaker 2: the streets and New New York, these poor people. Couple
- 4:02Speaker 2: from Minnesota, were you going to be all right? I said, Well,
- 4:06Speaker 2: if you don't mind seeing school buses go up and
- 4:09Speaker 2: play it. You don't have a good time?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Well, and uh, hey, what about that the World Cup
- 4:15Speaker 1: FIFA that I can't get into. I can't watch that.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I got nothing on that.
- 4:20Speaker 1: But I don't know. It's like Paraguay versus Uruguay. Who
- 4:24Speaker 1: am I supposed to root for?
- 4:25Speaker 2: What are you? Are you going to attend the parade?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Are you going to be you know you're gonna be
- 4:33Speaker 2: on the air.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Luckily I'll be on the air. No, i'd never been
- 4:36Speaker 1: to the Canyon of Heroes. You've probably been in one
- 4:38Speaker 1: of those parades.
- 4:39Speaker 2: No, I never have. I've seen them. I'm watching them
- 4:42Speaker 2: on TV. But it's it's going to be They say
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's going to be the biggest ticker ta parade ever.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you think there's actually no such thing
- 4:53Speaker 1: as ticker tape anymore. They don't have stock tickets, so
- 4:55Speaker 1: they have to buy this fake ticker tape and throw it.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But it's now and the glitters it looks much better now.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Do you ever look back, You ever look back at
- 5:04Speaker 2: all the different events that were covered? I mean e
- 5:08Speaker 2: goes way back a long time ago. Yeah, you know
- 5:12Speaker 2: I wanted to mention something else too, and this has
- 5:16Speaker 2: kind of got uh, I don't know, swept under the rug.
- 5:20Speaker 2: The Songwriters Hall of Fame was what last Thursday at
- 5:27Speaker 2: Marriott Marquis and uh, our pal Taylor Swift became the
- 5:32Speaker 2: youngest woman to ever get inducted into the Songwriters Hall
- 5:37Speaker 2: of Fame.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean it's usually Gershwin Cole Porter like people
- 5:40Speaker 1: like that are in there. But yeah, And the time
- 5:45Speaker 1: you met Taylor Swift.
- 5:48Speaker 2: She had a country song out called Tim McGraw and
- 5:54Speaker 2: I was working at p LJ and her father and
- 5:59Speaker 2: the local cool record at a local record rep called
- 6:05Speaker 2: me at the at the at pod and said, would
- 6:08Speaker 2: you mind if we have a new artist, can we
- 6:10Speaker 2: just bring her by it? And I'm you know, I'm
- 6:12Speaker 2: presser that I know Scott Channing or I know the
- 6:16Speaker 2: guy that's on the air in New York. And I said, yeah, yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 2: I don't have to put her on the air, do we?
- 6:22Speaker 2: And I swear to god the dad came in really
- 6:28Speaker 2: nice guys, she was sweet and they were in the
- 6:30Speaker 2: control room and uh, and just sit and they're talking.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I said, well, did you bring a record? Just I
- 6:37Speaker 2: can hear what you sound like? Oh yeah, I got it.
- 6:40Speaker 2: My dad's got it. So I played it in cute
- 6:44Speaker 2: not on the air. I said, that's that's pretty good.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's nice. And so I and she left the room
- 6:51Speaker 2: to make a call or something, and I asked her dad,
- 6:53Speaker 2: I said, is it okay to play this if I
- 6:55Speaker 2: want to on the air? Oh yeah, yeah. So we
- 6:59Speaker 2: we played it one time. She came running back down
- 7:03Speaker 2: the hall. You know that's on the air. My that's
- 7:08Speaker 2: my songs. Did you mean to play it? So she
- 7:11Speaker 2: gave me a pigu And uh, that's how that's how
- 7:15Speaker 2: I gots because nobody, no Top forty stations were playing
- 7:19Speaker 2: in that song, and it was just it was just fun.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Another career you launched.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Wow, well I was not. She would have made it
- 7:28Speaker 2: without me. I don't worry about that.
- 7:30Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You know what's so funny is her? You ever know
- 7:34Speaker 2: she shows up but all the big events, Yeah, she
- 7:39Speaker 2: she I don't think she was a fan of the
- 7:42Speaker 2: NIXT before. I never heard that. And then she had
- 7:46Speaker 2: her posse you see that old thing she had that
- 7:51Speaker 2: had the T shirts.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Well, she's a brilliant marketer. I knows where to go,
- 7:56Speaker 1: where to show up at just the right moments.
- 7:59Speaker 2: She had the t sure that said Stevie Nicks like, kay,
- 8:03Speaker 2: you know, and I don't know how she got to
- 8:07Speaker 2: be that she's I don't know. She's with the La,
- 8:11Speaker 2: the Law and Order girl. Now, yeah, they're buddies now,
- 8:17Speaker 2: you know, uh, you know do you funny thing about
- 8:21Speaker 2: you know how that got started? Taylor named her cat
- 8:29Speaker 2: after her character on Law and Order. Yeah, that's the deal.
- 8:36Speaker 2: That's her name on TV. And uh, and that's the
- 8:40Speaker 2: name of her cat. And Olivia Benson.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I think if I get a cat, I could name
- 8:45Speaker 1: it Lenny Briscoe after the Jerry or back.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Ye, yes, that'd be great. And and you think about
- 8:53Speaker 2: it for a second. Steven Spielberg introduced her with that
- 8:57Speaker 2: at that big award ceremony.
- 8:59Speaker 1: It was fine. Hey, Scott Shannon, there's the Barrett Media Summit.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That's a big event every year in New York. Uh throw.

- 9:11Speaker 1: country comes in and there's a Scott Shannon Award this year.
- 9:16Speaker 1: How did that come about?
- 9:19Speaker 2: I hadn't. I have no idea.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Oh, I mean, but it's a great honor. Somebody's gonna
- 9:25Speaker 1: win that.
- 9:25Speaker 2: It's nice and uh and and I'm also doing a
- 9:29Speaker 2: couple of appearances and panels. I'm gonna be with my
- 9:34Speaker 2: my old boss, Jim Ryan, and of course one of
- 9:38Speaker 2: my one of my friends is great DJ Broadway Bill
- 9:42Speaker 2: Lee is going to be on the panel. Yeah, and
- 9:45Speaker 2: you know, he actually the guy who runs that whole
- 9:49Speaker 2: thing actually started out in the sports world. You know,
- 9:54Speaker 2: he's been he's been around for a while on the
- 9:56Speaker 2: Barrett Sheet and all that kind of stuff. But he's
- 10:00Speaker 2: he's really excited and it's going to be obviously right

- 10:27Speaker 1: actually here visiting our friend Tim McCarthy and then stopped
- 10:30Speaker 1: in the studio. Oh boy, well.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And two out of time yet.
