- 3:03You gotta see it all. Yes. I can't. I don't know if everybody else can.
- 3:08Yeah, we can hear you. I don't see any sound kind of blue or funny.
- 3:11No good. There it is. Welcome to the Doc Fellows Podcast, episode 20.
- 3:17This week, we're joined by Zachary again.
- 3:21Glad to be here. I wish I could say the same. Oh, damn, dude.
- 3:26Right off to it, Red. It just never stops. I'm here for it.
- 3:31Well, I don't... I didn't have anything exciting happened this past week.
- 3:35I don't know about you guys, but it's been a pretty tame week last week.
- 3:39Yeah. Yeah. Got a new motor. Yeah? That's a great car. Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:44Kind of need that to go racing now. Yeah, I know. Now I just need to get the other one back. Yeah.
- 3:48But one is better than none. Yes. You mean you guys don't Fred Flintstone those cars around?
- 3:53No, if I did, I'd be fucked. No, that was the backup plan. You were going to
- 3:56be in the front where the engine goes.
- 4:02That was unreversed, but it sounded like it was rehearsed.
- 4:08That was awesome, man. Especially, you know, when you're trying to get it going for the first time.
- 4:14Let's go fire this off, see if it runs. This thing's got a misfire.
- 4:19Hold on, give me another question, I'll be all right. Why is it puke in?
- 4:25It smells like shit in here. I'm trying to...
- 4:28Oh, well, we finally put the post up about the giveaway this week.
- 4:33So that is finally live.
- 4:36Sitting here, setting up for the Bob Castle. Like, you talked about like,
- 4:40we've seen the only thing, so. So, no, we definitely talked about it.
- 4:42We pulled those things out of the trailer.
- 4:44So that's live. It is on our Facebook and our Instagram pages,
- 4:47and it should be pinned to the top of the page.
- 4:51The rules for that are pretty easy. Just follow both our Facebook and our Instagram
- 4:56pages. And then you have to comment.
- 4:58What did I say? Comment, oh, what is your green duck or goose or bird you kill?
- 5:05And then one of the winners that we select out of the two will be 18 years for you.
- 5:11So the other blind could go to anyone. Could be your grandma. Don't matter.
- 5:15You just posted that, what, like five minutes here? Yeah. We just got our first
- 5:18column already on. Did we? Yeah. Perfect. I'm going to have a little ice cream coming on here.
- 5:25So that's exciting. I'm looking forward to that, seeing how that goes.
- 5:29I could be good. Yeah. I can't hurt. I was going to say, it can't be bad.
- 5:33I can't wait to get my grandma out in that blonde.
- 5:37They are comfortable. They are comfortable. They are.
- 5:42A little bit of news. I mean, there's not much news going on in the waterfall
- 5:44world. Because waterfall season, well, they can open up on the sleeping snake season.
- 5:49None of us can do that. No. Actively? No.
- 5:52In general. Well, I entered. I entered, yeah, but I mean, I actively hunt for them. Why not?
- 6:02Well, it seems to be, especially with IO lately, this time of year,
- 6:05it's kind of muddy in the fields.
- 6:06And I am definitely not walking my tummy, but back and forth to the trailer
- 6:10haul, not many deep woods.
- 6:12It's seeming pretty frozen out right now. Well, now this is on.
- 6:15Yeah. We got our, it's plenty of fruit.
- 6:17I think that was my next thing to go to is welcome back winter.
- 6:21I thought we were done with that for the time being, but for about the next,
- 6:24uh, what? 36 hours? 36. Yeah.
- 6:27I think, well, Saturday is going to be like 80 degrees.
- 6:31Friday is supposed to be like 77, and then Saturday is supposed to be like 75.
- 6:34Yeah. Oh, goodness. We'll get one more snuff going at least between now and
- 6:38Easter. Oh. Unfortunately.
- 6:41Friday is now supposed to be 81. Saturday is 75. Oh. Seven. You're not going to go to.
- 6:52I will be wearing them. It'll be a couple good days in Brunson.
- 6:56See if you saw it probably be out there in shorts and cowboy boots.
- 7:00My cutoff, of course.
- 7:04Not even a wifey here, just a cutoff. Yeah, I love it. It's an old flannel.
- 7:09I like that player, the table guy with him out there.
- 7:14Love to see it. Another thing that's been pop-up in my Facebook feed a lot is
- 7:19these net-colored snuggies.
- 7:21I mean, I've seen, I think that these three people that I've seen,
- 7:25and one that I kind of know, we all kind of know of them, the early diaries
- 7:29from our area here, we killed one within the past week, I believe.
- 7:33And supposedly these things were just done in Texas this year, this winter.
- 7:37Really? And they're not even making it back to the tundra. Their guys are just down and running away.
- 7:42So hopefully they did quite a few of them because, I mean, I'm pretty sure I
- 7:46know of at least three that have already been killed.
- 7:48Yeah. That would be sick, though. Wouldn't that? That would be sweet.
- 7:51If I ever kill any radio-colored bird, I would get them out.
- 7:54Oh, for sure. I mean, I know you've got to send those back, the transmitter,
- 7:57they'll send you a replica one.
- 7:59I don't care how good the bird looks, it'd probably get mine. No doubt.
- 8:03That's not even a question. Yeah. That'd be sick. Hoping for like an early season and blooming.
- 8:10Secreting of color in that way. The umpniest bird. That way I see.
- 8:13Really? Like September 1st? Really call your blah home a bug. He's pretty awesome.
- 8:18It would still happen on it that'd be my luck I would kill I'd kill like the
- 8:23worst looking shoveler in the world.
- 8:27Same fuck you yeah terrible hate it here,
- 8:32And it seems like we're kind of getting the precipitation here at the right
- 8:35times, really coming into the springtime of the year where these birds are moving north.
- 8:39I mean, they just started dropping our water last week, but they held it for
- 8:43pretty much as long as we can't get it for the spring floods.
- 8:48Long kind of precip in my eyes. I was going to say, I wasn't looking for the
- 8:51snow, but I thought you'd get some moisture on the ground.
- 8:53We got quite a bit of rain, though. Yeah, right. Prior to. Prior to the snow,
- 8:58like that morning, thunderstorms and there was tornado risk in the areas, too.
- 9:02I did see that. I mean, I didn't see any from my house like last year.
- 9:07That's literally only March. We're just getting into that time of year.
- 9:10It just feels like it's moving so much faster now. It does.
- 9:13Actually, my space time does go a lot faster. You get older. The time's not too long.
- 9:18It's not. Sorry.
- 9:21You're down. You're down. Take the mic off.
- 9:25But no, I mean, even the Dakotas, they got a bunch of snow. So that should really
- 9:29help out the drought problem they're having. I mean, our drought problem is
- 9:33not a good situation either, but it doesn't affect the waterfowl as much as
- 9:37it does. Right. So Dakota's in Canada. Right.
- 9:40South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and the prairie potholes in Canada are
- 9:44what really we need to have a good year.
- 9:46I didn't see how much the coast got, as much as Minnesota, that same swath of stuff.
- 9:52I think in total in the past week they have because they had a snowstorm hit
- 9:56there before this last one, but I don't know how much they got.
- 9:59I did not look at the weather too closely or not. Dang.
- 10:03I don't know what you're active on this post. I was just telling you to tell
- 10:06them give a fuck about it, please punch. Dang.
- 10:09I'm scared if it's going to rain while I'm at work. Other than that. Yeah, same.
- 10:15Don't even put my rain cup to that? Or not? Hopefully. Even if I need it.
- 10:19I just don't work on my supervisor from the truck or not.
- 10:22Right? I wish that was a thing.
- 10:26Wish. It's always a thing. Just make it a thing.
- 10:30Say, amigo. I don't have any amigos. You spent your days in a cab.
- 10:37I wish. most of it.
- 10:41I'm from the office. All of you does is fly in a plane, drive in cars, and sit in the office.
- 10:47That's it. That's it. You're bad at me.
- 10:50I did show you for a doctor.
- 10:53At least I'm driving. I didn't go on. Once we're outside, show us.
- 10:59Thankfully, they don't pay even
- 11:00what it's happening. I have gotten Snapchats to you in a rain, though.
- 11:04There are some days on that. that pop-up thunderstorms out in the south,
- 11:07man, he has a big poncho on. No?
- 11:10He's just raw-dogging. He didn't send you that one. It's fun when he's wearing
- 11:13a big poncho and dances on the rain, but... That's after I've been working.
- 11:16That's been a pleasure. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 11:20But no, this rain and the snow that we're getting here, I mean,
- 11:25there's nothing really in the 10-day for us here.
- 11:26So whatever we got, just carry us through that, hopefully.
- 11:30But knock on wood, we have a solid year of water up there, and we're actually
- 11:36up there and match. Yeah.
- 11:37We need it. Numbers have been dog-shilled the past 10 years.
- 11:41It's terrible. I don't know how, I still don't know how we're on a 60-6 compared
- 11:46to a 30-3 or a 45. I think it's four.
- 11:51I think it's one of the descriptions. But I don't know. That's for people that are higher up than me.
- 12:00This week, I think we're going to touch... We'll talk about Delta a little bit here,
- 12:04kind of like what our local chapter has been up to, and then we're going to
- 12:07go into a little bit of the Iowa program here in Iowa that is kind of a sore
- 12:11topic for a lot of conservation people around the state that follow the politics side of it,
- 12:16and kind of pay attention to stuff that could help them in the long run. See, that'll be nice.
- 12:21Not that we're super much people. No. We can talk about it.
- 12:24You know, unfortunately, there's a lot of people that are uneducated about it
- 12:28just because they haven't been put in front of their faces, you know? Yeah.
- 12:31And it's definitely something that, yeah, the taxpayers pay a little more for
- 12:35up front, but in the long run, so much.
- 12:38It's worth every penny. Well, we'll get to that. Yep.
- 12:43I went to a Delta Water Club meeting with Mr. Zachary. Pookie.
- 12:48He's playing Pookie. Weird. Yeah.
- 12:53Anyways, so got to hear a little bit about what they had going on.
- 12:56And this weekend, they went out and put up some wood duck boxes for our area.
- 13:00Wood duck boxes and gained a goose nest. Goose nest infrastructure.
- 13:04Yeah. Do you know how many goose boxes and structures they have?
- 13:08I know they've got to keep track, but I don't know if you're... They do.
- 13:11I wasn't super involved with how many they put out last year.
- 13:14Um, so I was a P and I, but I wasn't even really involved with the,
- 13:19what they did then, but thanks. That's good.
- 13:24I think they did four and four this year. So, and I want to say it was either
- 13:29four or six with Duck Woutons last year.
- 13:31I know I talked to Colton Bradley, he's their vice president and he,
- 13:36I was talking with the Big Star the other day, they're out doing that.
- 13:39Oh, yup. So he said they were seeing some good utilization right out of those.
- 13:42So, I mean, that's always a help.
- 13:44Yeah, I think I've seen 85% live in the chat. Yeah. That's pretty good. I mean, really. Yeah.
- 13:49For where we're at, we don't have a lot of birds stay and live here.
- 13:54But that's pretty good for our area, I would say. It's good to see.
- 13:58Especially see them, you know, with those boat deck watches,
- 14:01not just set it and forget it, you know, a little bit back out.
- 14:04And that's a big thing. A lot of people will be like, oh, I want to put this
- 14:07out and I'll go do it on their own. and then nobody takes care of it and Doc's
- 14:11ain't going to use it again if the old stuff's in.
- 14:14So, I don't know, not that, I mean, I think it does, it helps out,
- 14:19doesn't hurt, not that it plays a major factor in it.
- 14:22It's, it's a very, it's a very minuscule amount compared to like what ducks
- 14:27are going to naturally do on it and what Mother Nature is going to allow them
- 14:30to do over a sense of a year. Absolutely.
- 14:33But, you know, you know, grand scheme saying every little bit helps,
- 14:37I guess. No, yes, I mean, like it's, it doesn't hurt at all.
- 14:40No, no, no, no. Yeah, definitely helps.
- 14:42So it's just cool to see that there's still people that are willing to go out
- 14:44and do that kind of stuff.
- 14:46I kind of wish I had more time where I could be more involved on that side of
- 14:49it. But No, you got nothing but that. I wish.
- 14:52Yeah, but haven't you just been sitting around like, who can I have?
- 14:56Yeah, for this past week, this week, I'm a busy as shit trying to buy a house.
- 15:01Hurry up. Yeah, there's rights to check. Yeah, I wish it was that easy.
- 15:06But, I mean, it helps out. I mean, there's a lot going on right now with the
- 15:12corruption in the government and the corruption with all kinds of organizations around the country.
- 15:18But I would say Delta is on the better side of that compared to,
- 15:21like, I'm not going to say Doxing is 100% corrupt, but they're on the better
- 15:25side of the spectrum than DU is right now.
- 15:28And that's, yeah, I would even say they're on the better side of the spectrum than DU and WTF.
- 15:35Like, there's a lot of these organizations that, you know, we can put more funds
- 15:40from Delta into our local habitat than a lot of these big organizations do and stuff.
- 15:45Well, and I don't, you know, when these big organizations started, they were small, right?
- 15:49Yep. And they had a good picture and a good view of how they wanted to go about things.
- 15:53But when you get too much money involved in anything, it goes sideways.
- 15:57And I think that's what we're starting to see with a lot of these bigger organizations
- 16:01is too much is going sideways. And greed is coming factored into it too much.
- 16:06Because there's so many different tax codes. I don't even know how that stuff
- 16:10works, but there are ways where
- 16:11you can profit off non-profit and not be a big like a nervous company.
- 16:16Absolutely. And it's, I mean, are you going to do this? I was doing this for free for a little while.
- 16:21You know, and it's like, shit, put the nine to five, do this,
- 16:25pay him a little bit, I'm just go.
- 16:27And then that just snowballs down and go, well, we are in one.
- 16:31I mean, I've got some words that Ducks Unlimited had a bad hearing not too recently
- 16:37or not too long ago, more recent than not, that some things said that didn't go well for themselves.
- 16:44We'll see what comes out of it. That's only from one person I've heard that from.
- 16:48But it'll be very interesting to see what they've actually said and how that's
- 16:53going to affect their program.
- 16:56I mean, they have a good thing in place. Their groundwork and their original
- 16:59deal is awesome. And just that and the amount of reach they have,
- 17:05they can do so much. 100%.
- 17:09I don't know. I was a supporter of Duxluna for growing up for a long time.
- 17:13I was a part of Duxluna for probably 10 years, like hands-on.
- 17:17And I have not, I don't think I've been a member. I think I can.
- 17:20So I'm not a little sure about this. But I have not been a member that I have
- 17:23paid for at least, and at least follow it.
- 17:26Well, you know, I think that's part of it too, again, was the reach thing.
- 17:29I've been, you know, growing up a deer hunter, it's like I was part of the local boat club.
- 17:33When I get involved with the Idaho boat hunting, you know, kind of stuff also from there.
- 17:37So naturally, when I take up duck hunting, I'm like, all right,
- 17:40what can I do to help with this?
- 17:42The first name that always pops in your head or the first name always on Facebook.
- 17:47So I was a member as well. Got my free cooler. I believe I still get the magazines too.
- 17:54Please fill this checkout with your donation. Yeah. It's crazy how much they'd
- 17:59probably give out in free magazines to people that aren't even members. Oh, yeah.
- 18:03I know for a fact I was still getting them up until about three or four months ago.
- 18:07And now they've moved. So I haven't seen one since then. Is that like a monthly magazine? Yeah.
- 18:13Monthly. That's funny.
- 18:15Yeah. Yeah. 12 magazines a year. I need some thousands a minute.
- 18:20How many people get those go? Nice.
- 18:24I would I will say there is years where I wish I
- 18:27would have kept those because coming like in the future as
- 18:30we get older like this would be kind of cool to look back on the things that
- 18:32we were fighting now compared to what in 30
- 18:36years we can be facing this for even a lot of the hunting 30 years might not
- 18:40be you know that's that's a whole last possible like 95 and I hope you drown
- 18:45on that bush like I mean look look at your for example wasn't that long ago
- 18:50everybody got one tag yeah there was no five made You get two bucks. It was one tag.
- 18:56Well, I feel like the disease is going around right now in the past recent years.
- 19:01It's a possibility to come again. I know there's definitely talks about limiting
- 19:05some real numbers for sure.
- 19:07And obviously talks of, again, not citing, you know, attack us on this podcast,
- 19:12but talks of going to... Attack him.
- 19:13...but stay, you know.
- 19:16And I just... Obviously, other people are making those decisions too.
- 19:19It's like one buck per person? Yep.
- 19:22Yep. So now you can do your article. Oh, yeah. And a buck, and a gun tag.
- 19:25Yep. Well, I forgot about that. I didn't think about that. And then if you're
- 19:28a landowner, you get a third of it.
- 19:30That's a floating tag. So, you know, no, the percentage of them guys floating
- 19:33three bucks is like half a cent or whatever. That's great.
- 19:37Even two bucks is pretty low, but just kind of helps incentivize those guys that are landowners.
- 19:41Screw it. I'll shoot this 6.8. Well, for me, like the way you guys deer hunt
- 19:46in Iowa is a lot different than how we did in Illinois. Like we never pushed deer in Illinois.
- 19:50Like even shotgun season, you just go sit your tree stand and you play or
- 19:53ground blind everyone done right yeah but we didn't not that
- 19:56i remember or can recall i think it will never have
- 19:59been and never will be in the deer hunting but i don't
- 20:03ever remember them pushing deer like you guys do and you guys like when you
- 20:05guys push it's in bigger groups like and then you can mow down some deer oh
- 20:10yeah wait so it's crazy how many deer that do get killed in a short what is
- 20:15it like meet two weeks two weeks yeah two weeks from a weekend and And then
- 20:19like a week, it'll be 10. Yeah.
- 20:21So it's crazy how many deer get killed and not 10 days, give or take,
- 20:25just by people pushing what's.
- 20:29I've been trying to deer hunt out of a tree and there comes 20 people walking
- 20:33the woods. That happened to me a couple years ago. Okay.
- 20:37Really mown down if you don't pay taxes and write horses.
- 20:40I know exactly. You can talk shit. They can't hear this. They don't have electricity or something.
- 20:48That's okay. Isn't that wild? God.
- 20:52I won't stop. Yeah. Back to kind of sidetracked there on deer hunting.
- 20:58I do want to have an episode here coming up because like we got to talk about
- 21:02right so like I want I do want to get Living Legends together they did a podcast
- 21:06with us this winter if you guys haven't listened to that go check them out they're
- 21:09pretty good dudes they're from our area too,
- 21:12oh no damn,
- 21:15but they're pretty good dudes they had us on this winter we did a kind of a
- 21:19waterfowl podcast it was,
- 21:21wild it was mainly a shit yeah that was all
- 21:24but it would be cool to have them guys come
- 21:26on or me and do kind of a
- 21:29deer podcast talk to them and have them come here and
- 21:32talk about their shit to people that don't care about their shit
- 21:35yeah or even if like even if we
- 21:37went to them i mean a lot of the questions were for
- 21:40us because it was their podcast you know we still
- 21:43asked a couple of our questions but i feel like swinging that the
- 21:46other way would go just as well as it meant for them yeah yeah
- 21:49no it'd be fun and i'm we'll have a few topic or a few weeks this summer where
- 21:54we talk about some deer stuff like news about that stuff because he got it the
- 21:58first five a little bit there's not enough stuff that goes on with ducks i mean
- 22:01there's gonna be some in the coming year within the next 12 months there's gonna
- 22:05be a lot of big stuff come out oh i know it's juicy too.
- 22:11Like what fart juicy juice here you ever had that gum with a yellow bag,
- 22:18That's how we see a woman. Jason Root? Yes, that one.
- 22:22Couldn't think of a name. I don't know. I made the main part there.
- 22:24It's not really that hard of a name.
- 22:28I don't know. Neither is Cade, but I forget about you all the time. Oh, dog.
- 22:33It's all over his garage. Coonsies, stickers, everywhere. That's true.
- 22:37They'll shoot another acorn, gal.
- 22:40Hey, turkey season's coming out, boys. We're starting to get really rolling.
- 22:43We're going to see if I know chickens. Oh, yeah. Aren't you taking Nuki on a turkey hunt? Yep.
- 22:47Yep. We're going to try to get in with his first gobbler. Make sure you take
- 22:50his choke collar with him, because he's got a hand. I'm going to tell him that that hand is eagle.
- 22:54Oh, I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to... Oh,
- 22:57I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to...
- 23:00Oh, I'm going to... Oh, I'm going to... Surely he is. I doubt it.
- 23:04I'm busy doing work stuff. Will it be sort of fun? No. But yeah,
- 23:10back to like Delta and DU and all these guys.
- 23:13You know, if you're looking to support an organization that's going to have the best bank group up.
- 23:18As of right now, the way it sits is Delta in the state.
- 23:23As of right now, but I know we've talked about it in the past about ISC and
- 23:27us doing something with them.
- 23:30They're working on, and Zach can talk more about this, but they're working on
- 23:33getting some stuff going for Waterfowl to help out with the DNR and funding
- 23:37because we're, we're laughing 20 in the eye of it big time. And that goes for every state.
- 23:41But that's also because these big organizations don't keep money in states where
- 23:45they have these chapters.
- 23:47Delta's got some money producing chapters in here in Iowa.
- 23:50Oh, yeah. And very well, what is it? 20, let's say 25% or something like that.
- 23:56I'll say it's 30. I don't, I don't think it's 30. It could be.
- 24:00But either way it less less than it should be it's way less than it should be yeah now the ifc,
- 24:07is yeah it's four things part so all of their money for the most part yeah stays
- 24:11in iowa other than the part they have to pay to the whatever yeah as a we're
- 24:16a part of uh dallas morning club,
- 24:18so we do pay like your membership if you will but yeah 90 will be 95 of of what
- 24:26we make stays right here.
- 24:28So we get to delegate anywhere that things go. And that's where coming in,
- 24:32trying to be more involved with Delta, seeing where we can allocate some of
- 24:35those funds and all, you know, see what we can go about too.
- 24:37So I know Taylor, our president's been talking to Colin, I think, of Brecker.
- 24:43Yeah. Delta, I'll do some things. So, yeah, and obviously us helping out,
- 24:47trying to figure out what we can do around locally, around Red Rock and things like that.
- 24:51I'll go over with me now and get some funds. But I think, I do think it's something
- 24:53that we're able to tag team a couple projects that will make a difference on I mean, maybe not.
- 24:58I mean, $250,000 pumps, but, you know. $196,000.
- 25:04Oh, my bad. My bad. Oh, shit. Donate a month to your wages, and we can get there. Oh, damn.
- 25:12Yeah, you're going to need a lot more than that. A lot more pumps?
- 25:16You're going to need more than that?
- 25:18We're going to need like four pumps a year. Yeah, all of them.
- 25:21One month. No, but for real, though, I mean, that there's this a lot of states
- 25:26don't have that stuff where I grew up we started one and they did really well
- 25:29and they do really well for the area my biggest pet feed was a lot of these places is,
- 25:34They talk to the wrong people or they don't ask the right people what funds should go to.
- 25:40I'm not saying that us three in
- 25:43this room know where every penny should go to and the best way to do it.
- 25:47What I'm saying is too many people that think they know what they're talking
- 25:51about will get involved.
- 25:52And then money goes to shit that doesn't help out, period. Or it's not going to help the hunter out.
- 25:57No, but it'll look good on your policy and what you've done for the state.
- 26:03Yeah, exactly. And that's a big thing. Like, oh, I have this in my resume.
- 26:07Like, I did this and this.
- 26:08Like, what the fuck did it actually accomplish? Or who did it help? Right.
- 26:12Damn, man. You're like a smallie daycare out here. Right, man. Yeah.
- 26:18Right.
- 26:22Tosted, Tosted.
- 26:24But you really gotta, I mean, when you're looking at an organization to help
- 26:28or to join or to help fund or get involved with,
- 26:32it's hard to find one right now that is putting money into stuff that's actually
- 26:36going to make a fucking difference for hunting here or the future.
- 26:40The ones that aren't, even if you start with DU,
- 26:43that's a great stepping stone because then you start learning other things a
- 26:46long way and then you go, all right, well, maybe I'll still get my 15 bucks
- 26:50here, whatever DU is, but now I'm going to go with our local Delta chapter or
- 26:53ISC or whoever that may be.
- 26:57So I've seen a real I'm going to call somebody out here. It's kind of funny.
- 27:02Midway's Flyway's podcast. Everybody knows them. They're a good podcast to listen
- 27:05to. They're great talkers and they have some great points.
- 27:08But when they talked about Ducks London their $25 membership can make whatever,
- 27:16say $25. I can't remember what he said to share word to word.
- 27:19He's like, why would you do that? It's not one of those words.
- 27:23That's not even how you host that place, but I mean, it's great thought.
- 27:27Yeah. The theory is fantastic. And that's how Duxlander was started. Yep.
- 27:31But they'll look at how they started versus what they do now.
- 27:34I mean, I know of instances where Delta, or not Delta, DU selling wetlands and
- 27:39areas back to Canadian farmers, they're just going to drain tiling. Yep.
- 27:43I was like, Carl, we bought it, we did our write-off. Now, you can have that.
- 27:47So how's that helping? Almost negative.
- 27:50Then when they started, when they had negative help. But I mean,
- 27:54it's a stepping stone, like you said.
- 27:56It doesn't hurt. If you got, I mean, most of us, not everybody,
- 28:00but a lot of us can work out $15 or $20 to be a member for a year and support
- 28:06something that's in one way, shape, or form.
- 28:08Maybe not for the way you want to, but it's going to help out in the long run a little bit.
- 28:14But you get that magazine that starts talking about the wetland or, you know, flooded.
- 28:18I don't know if I bring it up, but, you know, if they start talking about it
- 28:21in that magazine and all of a sudden you're like, oh, now I'm doing some research
- 28:24and see what we're doing locally. I didn't know what to do about that. Yada, yada, yada.
- 28:28This opens up opportunities, too. Yeah, no, it does. I mean,
- 28:31well, me and Kate aren't active Delta Thunderbird right now, but we will be.
- 28:35You're short, mate. May 30th. Yeah, you will. That's one thing I was going to
- 28:39bring up, too, is our local Delta banquet is having their banquet,
- 28:42May 30th, here in Knoxville, Iowa.
- 28:45It's called the Red Rock. The street chapter. Yep. Right in my backyard.
- 28:50Literally. I can literally see where it's at right now. That's going to be so
- 28:54great if we get panicked and just stumble right back over it. What do you mean, Tiff?
- 28:57I don't drink very often. Wait.
- 29:01It's supposed to be a cup of water in a few of the animals. He actually just
- 29:06dumped out the bush, like restored water.
- 29:10Everybody all five people in here know damn how did you like that it's a boy
- 29:17thank god 100 that far along yeah can you not tell.
- 29:25No, but banquet should be a pillar time. I mean, obviously, it's always hard
- 29:29on my checkbook and my liver, but. I think there's tickets still available, right?
- 29:3430, 33. So, yeah, if you're listening to this and you're looking for something
- 29:38to do May 30th, reach out to Fulton, probably? Yeah.
- 29:44Yeah, Fulton Bradley. Or you can reach out to any of us and we can point you in the direction.
- 29:48Technically, I'm on the community, so if you want to get a hold of me, I don't want you down.
- 29:51Yeah, do not do It's not much floating around, but between the ears,
- 29:56you know, we've noticed.
- 29:57Yeah, well, anyway, anyways, Colton Bradley or reach out to any one of us.
- 30:04That goes for even Zach here too. He's going to be joining us more often here
- 30:07as we go for the podcast, unfortunately.
- 30:10But he brings a different element that he's somewhat fun.
- 30:13I'm going to be twisting your arm back here. Oh, it hurts.
- 30:19It hurts. It's not good. But no, we can get you in the direction if you're interested
- 30:23in going to a banquet that we can. You might as well support a local chapter.
- 30:28Yeah. I mean, we all know Colton and, you know, Pookie's on the committee for
- 30:36there and you're on the committee for there.
- 30:38We all kind of know each other. So we kind of, it helps, we can help point the
- 30:43right direction for if we need some money and they can see what they can put.
- 30:46I mean, it's a small chapter. They just started at what, two, three, three years ago?
- 30:51So they don't have a lot of money to spend right now but it'll get bigger.
- 30:54I will say as much as I hate to give them guy props Bradley took that chapter
- 30:58last year and he doubled or doubled or two and a half times our income or profit off of our banquet.
- 31:06You know, he's done some good work there and I think he's set to do even higher
- 31:10this year if everything goes right you know, get some guys that want to come
- 31:13out, support a good cause, spend some money I know we've got 17 guns in the
- 31:18room that night That's it? You guys need to be better.
- 31:22God damn, Lou. I was like, I bought a ticket. I bought one with every ticket purchase.
- 31:28The chapter we're talking about here is the Red Rock, Peachtree chapter here.
- 31:33Red Rock, Peachtree chapter, Delta, Waterfowl.
- 31:36Is it Pella? I think that's technically there. Yeah, I think that's the home base.
- 31:40Yeah, but obviously Red Rock, Knopfo and Pella touch each other. We're sworn enemies.
- 31:45But Delta supports both. Yeah. Weird.
- 31:49But no, that is May 30th. So if you're interested in going to that bank,
- 31:52you're looking for something to do.
- 31:54I know Cade's not racing that night, so they didn't go. So yeah, we slutter in.
- 31:58A good time. I looked at the schedule. As soon as I talked about when the banquet
- 32:01was, pulled the race schedule, and I said, Kate, do you want to go to this?
- 32:05Good. Was it? Do you know that one's worse?
- 32:07I know you're not busy. They do have a table open still, I believe.
- 32:12Do they? Okay. Are you available?
- 32:15We can find out, but at the meeting the other night, they still had...
- 32:19They did. They wouldn't have Bradley just stuck.
- 32:22But they might. What did you just say? Like 33 tickets left?
- 32:25So Bradley says 33 seats left.
- 32:28Wow. So, I know that in theory... They've added as many tables as they can add.
- 32:31As big as they can go. We're up to 22 tables. This year, we sold 25.
- 32:36Or, sorry, we sold 20. We sold 19 when we were there. Or, what's the meeting there, 19?
- 32:44Just text us 22. Either way, he did send us a text Sunday last night at 6 p.m. 33 seats left.
- 32:53Anyways, if you're for real interested in the table, just tell me and we'll
- 32:57reach out to him. He responds real quick.
- 33:00And we can get you once. Kind of surprised you're not watching this commenting right now.
- 33:05Honestly, same. I don't know, he's been on here. You know what else he's been on here? Freaking fuck.
- 33:12He's probably out just shifting gears. Like he just gave up on typing.
- 33:16Probably. Yeah, he's like, fuck you up. Good.
- 33:23My headphones, everything went silent for a second. Next thing you know,
- 33:26start calling him. Instead of putting the phone on the mic.
- 33:31Call Colton real quick. He said, this guy, Acts 1013 is out of e-mail.
- 33:36So he said, call Colton. We'll do it live real quick for you here. Stick around.
- 33:42Should we sit on the streamer or something? What are you doing?
- 33:48Oh, sitting on a podcast and I've got you on the microphone.
- 33:52How many tables do we have left for the banquet?
- 33:56Four tables right now. Four tables left? There you go, Axe. He's got four tables left.
- 34:02So give him a call. He said he'll call him. Yeah.
- 34:05And if you need me to, I'll put Bradley's phone number on the Facebook Live.
- 34:09Yeah. That'd be perfect. What, uh, want to give him a preview?
- 34:14What do we got at that banquet? You want to hype it up a little bit?
- 34:16No. No, save that. Hold on. We'll save that. We'll have him on.
- 34:20Ask him if he's got time. We'll have him on.
- 34:21Discuss that more coming up. There you go. You got time to the next,
- 34:24before the banquet to discuss this? You got to talk about it a little bit?
- 34:28It's actually a safe one, dude. Is that a safe one? He's jerking off.
- 34:35Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
- 34:38All right. Well, there you heard it. Radley, you got to come on,
- 34:40pipe it up a little bit. And if anybody's watching me, Radley's not ready to
- 34:43hold me. Please don't be jerking off when you get on.
- 34:50But yeah, no, we had, thanks. We had somebody asking, Colton, so here we call you.
- 34:57Also, we have plenty of alcohol. If, if he, if we don't have plenty of alcohol,
- 35:01I know we will look at the store right next door. There is.
- 35:05Let's see. We'll see. All right. We'll be in touch. I'm getting you on, buddy. Later.
- 35:12Well, there you have it. They never know if that golden session and all.
- 35:16You know what? I can just hear. I can see his face.
- 35:21It's what I want. It's what I want. I think it's time to work. Just been cranked.
- 35:28Actually, is his girlfriend still in town? Oh, she might be.
- 35:31She might be. Yeah, she was here last night.
- 35:33Not cranky, though. So he might have started. He might have been.
- 35:36She might have been doing it while we were on the phone I would have been yeah
- 35:41there you go more of a time,
- 35:44anyways so yeah definitely looking forward to that and you can imagine it's
- 35:48going to be good to how he is there he is,
- 35:54cool if anybody knows Colton Bradley he counted here and he's one of our good
- 35:59buddies in the area and helps run the local Delta chapter he's good stuff it's
- 36:04a blast to hang out with absolute riot so if you have nothing going on May 30th
- 36:08it'll be it'll be a good time absolutely riot is spot on.
- 36:16What do you say he suddenly needed an intermission,
- 36:20I need you some Gatorade,
- 36:26Oh.
- 36:28Anyways, I think that about Desert Park, we got all that stuff.
- 36:33The fork is too out of hand here. Sure, that will be even deeper when Bradley's on gear. Oh, yeah.
- 36:38That'll be a hoot. Good.
- 36:41Well, I think we'll move into the Iowa stuff. Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:44I feel like you know a little more than each of us about it,
- 36:48because you've been part of the ISC for years, and I kind of know some of it about it.
- 36:53Like, a lot of people in Iowa don't. there's a lot of people that
- 36:55don't don't know about it or don't understand what it is so
- 36:58i will i was water and land legacy
- 37:01program essentially and it's wild that it was created in 2010 i knew it had
- 37:06been out a while i didn't know it was that long isn't that crazy it's seen week
- 37:0926 now 16 come up on 16 years it's been approved and passed and i've only heard
- 37:15about it past three years has been brought to you know our attention and my attention.
- 37:20Yeah, essentially, you're supposed to take it with such a minimal amount of
- 37:23the dollar. Like, some percent of a cent. It's on here.
- 37:28Three-eighths of a cent. Yeah,
- 37:30but that's three-eighths of a cent and you can't get this thing rolling.
- 37:33Wait, how come this is sad? I mean, don't get me wrong. I hate taxes.
- 37:40Taxes eat us all a lot. But if you're telling me, it's the same thing with hunting mice.
- 37:45If you were to tell me to help out for waterfall hunting, we had to raise the migratory bird fee,
- 37:50in iowa five bucks a license
- 37:53okay i don't know 10 bucks 15 bucks i mean
- 37:56literally raise it fucking 20 bucks nobody's gonna bitch about it because they know where
- 37:59it's going i'm still gonna do it as long as we can see where that money
- 38:02goes straight to helping right waterfall hunting because
- 38:04it's on the migratory bird feed you could do that and i i don't know of really
- 38:09many waterfellers i mean obviously it's gonna it's gonna affect some people
- 38:12to a small small extent it's gonna affect the people that literally go duck
- 38:18hunting one day yeah yep But people that do it every weekend,
- 38:23the weekend warriors, as I like to call them.
- 38:25They're talking about, I mean, I would.
- 38:28I don't know anybody that has told me that they would buy one.
- 38:31I don't think you'd see that percentage of people that wouldn't do it because of that region.
- 38:36It's so miniscutely small and it's like, well, you're probably running for the
- 38:40wrong reasons anyway, so that's fine.
- 38:42Tell you right now even like when i'm too old the duck hunt i'll still
- 38:45buy a license and a duck stand absolutely i've been
- 38:48buying two duck stands oh one though originally because
- 38:51we had to put it on a license oh so we did that i
- 38:54would buy a second one just keep it at the house yeah i wish i'd
- 38:57kept mine through the years there's a lot of stuff i wish i'd done through
- 38:59the years like in like my grandpa used to do and his friends
- 39:02and my guests and now look back up like oh we're gonna
- 39:05quit like that stuff see like i've kept all my since we
- 39:08started doing hard cards i kept all those with the same song and stuff like
- 39:11that also didn't realize with when we started the
- 39:14east dam that's a pretty cool thing that
- 39:17they have started it's fantastic right but i
- 39:20also didn't realize they'd send you a duck stamp at the end of season so you
- 39:23went and bought one one that sent me on yeah no i didn't realize that even sir
- 39:30i never got back you never got here no circles right back to i was obviously
- 39:35willing to pitch 25 for another sticky piece of paper so up you know up the
- 39:39license charge and I'm still going to do it.
- 39:41You can call your boy DT. See if he can send you one.
- 39:44I'm not going to go that way. I'll be able to text him right now.
- 39:47Really not that way. I might have a spare action, which you're missing.
- 39:52I don't know. But yeah, it's, you know, and it's wild that we can't take that
- 39:57and tack it on to, even when you look at, you know, the deer hunters.
- 40:01Hack on a dollar, two dollars, three dollars, whatever amount you decide,
- 40:06onto whether it's your, because we have like their TIT program,
- 40:10so you can donate $2 a TIT, or your Habitat fee that you buy,
- 40:14you know, and there's $2.
- 40:15Put your Habitat fee to $10, and then, you know, you've got a little room to
- 40:19play with on a couple different areas.
- 40:21Yeah, but like if you want to like, if you want to like pick on certain people,
- 40:24like groups, like waterfowl hunters, deer hunters, that stuff,
- 40:28like waterfowl and deer hunters are really easy to like raise the fee on something,
- 40:32that would go straight to what they enjoy doing.
- 40:34Yep. and that they can see an impact on where their money's going because like the migratory perk fee,
- 40:39only for waterfront. Yep. And I think you have to have it for death hunting?
- 40:43Yes. No. Sure. It's a water... Well, you have to... Sorry. Yeah,
- 40:47I think you do. You do. I was thinking of just your endorsement.
- 40:50But... When you say you're going to death hunt, that doesn't... Yeah.
- 40:53But like you... And then like deer tags. You didn't raise the price of deer
- 40:56tags. And that is strictly for...
- 40:59So, I mean, there's different ways that you can do it. I mean,
- 41:01obviously, there's a lot of ways you can do it, but I think that'd be the best
- 41:05ways you can do it where you track where that extra money is going.
- 41:08Yeah, I mean, it's general knowledge, right? You can look up how many public
- 41:11licenses or bird fees were sold in the state of Iowa for what year,
- 41:16take that dollar amount, obviously, try to go to that and go, okay, well,
- 41:20obviously, we have some allocations for other stuff, but you should have the
- 41:22bulk of this money going towards these projects or any project.
- 41:26Again i will water quality soil improvement what fish and wildlife habitat and
- 41:33then obviously public parks we see level courts all right ax here confidence that there was 28 000,
- 41:40migratory bird fees sold last year and i believe out of those 28 000 i think
- 41:44it was like roughly over 22 000 were residents and then the other whatever was
- 41:49non-resident and and what's funny they should be even higher they're not i know
- 41:53that's which is crazy to me that is great we're
- 41:56I think we're one of the only few states that does it. Missouri does a cool thing, though.
- 41:59If you go to Waterfall, Missouri, after December 10, your license is good for the whole next year.
- 42:05That's kind of neat. Yeah. But I wanted to point that out there.
- 42:09You just commented that it's a minimum.
- 42:11That number's smaller than I thought it was. It is. And I remember I looked into it.
- 42:16I found it when we were at the meeting last week or two weeks ago,
- 42:20and it was less than what I thought it would have been.
- 42:23But i i'd like to see what our updated numbers
- 42:26are moving forward and kind of like what like i'd like
- 42:29to see our past 10 years of numbers because i searched it but all i could find
- 42:32was 24 couldn't find 25 obviously we just finished that and i couldn't find
- 42:36previously i think 23 i've seen i'd like to see like if we go back 10 years
- 42:40if we're improving like we're seeing more non-residents and residents pick up
- 42:44the sport of waterfowl hunting or if we're seeing less,
- 42:47everybody claims there's less you got to take a youth don't take a youth do
- 42:51this get people into hunting which I get I'm all about taking people and getting them into hunting but.
- 42:57It's either A, there's just that much less usable public area,
- 43:01which is, that is a fact. There is way less area than there used to be.
- 43:05Or also B, there's more waterfowl than there used to be.
- 43:09I don't, I personally think there's more waterfowl than there used to be.
- 43:12Growing up as a kid, I grew up with nobody that waterfowl hunted.
- 43:17I think, you know, I remember COVID, right?
- 43:20COVID happened and it seemed like I could like that at that's the point where
- 43:26I quit on public and switched over to private because it's like a year of COVID
- 43:29happened and and I don't know if it was just just happened to be a year just
- 43:33or if that's the reason but it seemed like everybody had,
- 43:36extra money you're not at work what are we gonna do oh let's go talk to them you know.
- 43:41I would agree 100% on that. And even like on the deer side of things, I mean.
- 43:45Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There was nothing else for people to do.
- 43:48So they were like, fuck it. Like even the spring turkey numbers,
- 43:51I got to turkey hunt for my first time that year.
- 43:53And I was like, holy shit, is this always how it is? Like you couldn't go anywhere
- 43:58on public without having somebody right up your ass. Oh, no.
- 44:01You know, and is that new hunters or is that guys that got too busy with pork and life?
- 44:06And you're like, oh shit, I don't got a time. I'm going to take this up again,
- 44:08you know? Well, one thing that I've wanted to see happen on our state,
- 44:13but we've talked about it a lot, is the harvest information for waterfowl.
- 44:17We do not have any way to track harvest in Iowa, period.
- 44:22I mean, you get your head, but you put down, I killed 10 more.
- 44:25Yeah, it's a very small. It's a very small. Yeah.
- 44:27I mean, I get it. It's Sumta. It's a baseline of Sumta, but for one.
- 44:32It's a baseline, but that's how many people kill 11 and how many people kill 110.
- 44:38Right. You know, it's like, that's such a wide range of... It is.
- 44:42And it doesn't break down the species at all. I'd like to see a...
- 44:46I'd like to see this Iowa program funded. Like, all that is requiring is the
- 44:50government to implement the tax, is what I've been told.
- 44:53Yep. All the governor has to do is whenever they bring out their new tax plan,
- 44:58every year they do, or whatever, they just add that onto it.
- 45:02But nobody wants to do it because it's more taxing. Right. Obviously,
- 45:05we all bitch all the time about taxes.
- 45:08We do, but I bitch about... road tax and syntax. Why don't you pick tax on books
- 45:12like take that type of tax? Yeah, property tax.
- 45:17Taxes on the money I make and the money I spend. Yep.
- 45:21And if you drive a car, you get to do that every frickin year.
- 45:24It was a little expensive. Yeah, it's terrible.
- 45:28Trains aren't bad, but vehicles are terrible. I just got money in the middle
- 45:32of the day. I was like, are you fucking serious?
- 45:35At least they warned you it can double do. Yeah. You know it's coming.
- 45:41Fight the pill of it, yeah.
- 45:46But going back to the Iowa thing, I mean, it doesn't just all the water fowlers.
- 45:53It helps everybody because it's also improving the water quality in Iowa.
- 45:56The water quality, and then we just had the, the bill that got shut down not
- 46:01that long ago was the buffer strips, right?
- 46:05So it's a buffer strips so you can't plant all the way up against a rock source
- 46:10or something like that you know it could be literally helping fun stuff like that where,
- 46:14I don't think it's a secret with what's been sprayed on our crops and why Iowa
- 46:18is a number one cancer you know rising state in the country dog they say that
- 46:22doesn't hurt anything okay,
- 46:24but if I work in cornfields every day and then when the crop duster sprays we'd
- 46:29have to leave the area for 24 to 72 hours generally on anything they spread
- 46:32like we can't go back to work Oh, yeah. We don't want to talk about wind drift.
- 46:35And, you know, again, you know, it goes right back to soil quality,
- 46:40which helps everything.
- 46:42That helps your native grasses. So that's your upland birds.
- 46:45It helps water quality. So there's all your fishing and your ducks, right?
- 46:49Fishing is a big one. Fishing. Yeah.
- 46:52I mean, how do you guys, I don't know how much fish you guys can get off time,
- 46:56but you'll fish a farm pond that's been like stable for 15 years.
- 47:02And I you know you get black specks on catfish and I've never done a DNA sample
- 47:07on catfish so I can't tell you if it's true but I got told that was from you
- 47:11know the runoff of some of these chemicals or certain things we're putting on
- 47:13the ground I wouldn't doubt it oh it's that'd be terrible,
- 47:17it's designed to kill everything around it so only that crop grows and you can't
- 47:21tell me it's not affecting you know ducks in a cornfield or deer in a cornfield
- 47:25or greenfield when they can take a seed put it in the ground don't say that
- 47:29but a lot of these are going to get mad well.
- 47:31But you can take the city to the top of it. Now you just opened up the plant gate.
- 47:35And it can last for two months and still be a viable seed and kill everything
- 47:39that touches it from bugs. Correct.
- 47:41That's definitely affecting our wildlife.
- 47:44I mean, I've read reports of it affecting the fertility of ducks.
- 47:49Yeah. And going back to like the prairie potholes and that stuff.
- 47:54I mean, droughts are killing us, but who's to say that's not a part of it?
- 47:58And there are people that are bringing it up, which is not the right people yet. Yep.
- 48:02And that's the other problem is, I don't know if you'll ever have the right
- 48:05person to bring it up because with that, you're fighting a big red and black
- 48:08logo company FB that has more money than anybody can to sell these things. Yeah.
- 48:17No matter what you do, you're fighting a losing battle and this stuff.
- 48:21But eventually, you can't go after him and go for the throat chop right away.
- 48:27You got to go for the ankles and then the knees and shins or shins and then
- 48:31knees. you know, whoever you're supposed to. Small size. Yeah.
- 48:34Sacrifice in the ass. Get the boat. Whoa.
- 48:38Damn, dude. Quit selling those videos. Is it going to help raise fun for I. Willard?
- 48:49I'm out. Yeah, don't make sense. Yeah.
- 48:56Good stuff. So we need to, somebody started my life from the stream,
- 48:59guaranteed. Oh, you bet. Yeah. if this leads you to who's going to start one.
- 49:06I can't get much that's the Delta with my $10.35 a month.
- 49:11Where'd the 35 cents go from? Us, I don't know. Taxes.
- 49:17And not upon I will.
- 49:20But I mean, I don't get, I don't get how that's been a thing for 15, 16 years now.
- 49:24And it's just not even, I mean, you can't tell me you couldn't have like started
- 49:28the funding, like raise it an eighth of a cent.
- 49:30Oh, I know. And it's, it's why, like, again, it goes straight back to you not
- 49:36getting in front of the right people and talking to the people,
- 49:39the right people that can have an influence on those decisions.
- 49:41Well, I think, well, I don't think a lot of the state, I don't think there's
- 49:44enough of the state, just the residents that know about it, that enjoy the outdoors in general.
- 49:48I'm not talking just waterfowl up here. I'm talking deer hunting, fishing.
- 49:52And if you're into riding bikes and walking park trails, it goes to that too. Yeah.
- 49:56I mean, it goes in so many different avenues. But I think I've seen,
- 50:01I'm talking to a buddy of mine, Craig Hoffman, about it after the meetings last week, week four.
- 50:07And he said that if we initiated it, it would bring like roughly $400 million
- 50:12a year in the first year to go towards everything. Like that's an absurd amount of money.
- 50:19Yeah. And here we are talking about trying to fight and claw to get $200K to
- 50:24replace some fucking pump. Yeah.
- 50:26And we have $400 million sitting in reserves that we can tap into if we just raise the sales tax.
- 50:33I mean, you'll see a little bit of an increase, but not nothing that they don't
- 50:38employ and stuff that doesn't go anywhere anyway. It's just blinds and pockets.
- 50:41So, I mean, if you're listening to this and you've never heard of iWill,
- 50:46it is definitely something to look into and research because it took a while
- 50:50to think that this was approved and passed the house and everything.
- 50:54And then just stopped. Yeah.
- 50:57It sits on the governor's desk that all this has got to be done is applied to the sales steps.
- 51:02And for those that obviously are listening and don't know what I will is,
- 51:06you're going to look at it, you're going to read it, and you're going to go,
- 51:08oh yeah let me just do that.
- 51:11Especially for the low-ass tax of the day. That's right. Yeah,
- 51:14I mean, we pay more for stupid shit all the time.
- 51:16And nobody raises a fucking eyebrow. Come on.
- 51:21It's just wild. The day that we're in, you know, looking back at how this country started over tax.
- 51:29And how much of a freaking, we threw tea into the ocean over a 2% tax.
- 51:35And now we're just getting here.
- 51:37We're getting railed every year.
- 51:40Every fucking day. Yeah, what do you mean? You don't go to work every day?
- 51:44And the only people protesting are not the ones that care about taxes.
- 51:48And people that don't fucking work, usually.
- 51:51They're the ones living off of the government. Tuesdays and Wednesdays off the
- 51:55world and by your hair. Very.
- 51:58I mean, don't get me wrong. There's
- 51:59been things that people have protested about that have been for go.
- 52:04Absolutely. But the things that we protest about nowadays and that we fight
- 52:07over are fucking detarded.
- 52:08But the wild thing is, if you look back at the protests that happened for things
- 52:12that were for the good, they were not planned.
- 52:15They were very, like, not planned out, very fordial.
- 52:20Nobody was fucking lighting buildings on fire. Well, yeah. What?
- 52:24You want to make that back then? Are you sure?
- 52:26I'm not even saying back then, But like, all that shit gets kind of pushed off
- 52:34the news scene nowadays. Yeah.
- 52:38All about division. That's why everybody needs to be. Yep. E-H-E.
- 52:45Say, I'll show you a cool podcast. Okay. It's a text on the Scott and say,
- 52:48oh, gosh, it's interesting.
- 52:51But no, I mean, they're just, it's wild to me. The things that we fought,
- 52:54our ancestors fought, but we didn't play shit.
- 52:57In our generation hasn't done a fucking thing. But you know what?
- 53:00I'm going to give you a full circle a little bit.
- 53:02Full circle. Talked about how DU started its basis, right? With the right...
- 53:08No, I mean, I know where you're going with this. Yep.
- 53:10The government's the same way. It is. Started out as a volunteer position.
- 53:13Now, all of a sudden, you got Nancy Oldbag Pelosi in there and started trading
- 53:18and worse how many million of the dollars.
- 53:20That's all politicians. There's too much money in it. It wasn't made...
- 53:25To be a politician wasn't supposed to be a career. No.
- 53:28And that's what it is nowadays, and I think we're paying for it now.
- 53:34Quite literally. We're literally going to be paying for it for the rest of our
- 53:37lives. There's nothing we can do to stop it, but there's things we can do to help.
- 53:41Eric Trump, if you're listening, help I will.
- 53:45Help me, please. Doesn't have a fucking thing to do with that. It's how I want.
- 53:50Well, I know. He has Iowa. I mean, to be honest, though, Kim Reynolds has been
- 53:54a pretty decent governor for all around.
- 53:57Like, decent governor. Like, I can't.
- 53:59I've owned up here for eight, nine years now-ish. But to me,
- 54:03she seemed like Iowa's on the bad spot.
- 54:06No. And, you know, you got to give a lot of credit, too. I mean,
- 54:09not just political-wise, but you got to give a lot of credit,
- 54:12too, for RV and RV on the management, the way they have been to take those up
- 54:16there and introduce the bills they need to introduce.
- 54:18So, help keep it great. So yes, no, just when you look, let me rephrase that with a white tail.
- 54:24When you look at other states, we can be really fucking bad for you.
- 54:27Yeah. That's not what's not right. White tails.
- 54:29I see. Yeah. And now we just, we need to broaden the focus to all of it.
- 54:34Not just, I think our state's been, because anybody that lives in Iowa or hunts
- 54:39Iowa or has hunted Iowa has always been told Iowa is a flyover state.
- 54:44I, I personally think that Iowa could be way better than a flyover state if things were managed.
- 54:50I mean, look how much areas we've lost. But you're close to every state.
- 54:53I mean, we've lost a ton of areas, just like deer hunting has.
- 54:58But there's ways we can improve it. And our first step would be to get Iowa
- 55:02funded, and that would make, like, it would make our arguments way easier to
- 55:08get that into some people's stands, right? Yeah.
- 55:11Though, you know, right now, it's hard for us to go and ask for $200,000.
- 55:14But like you said, if you have $4 million sitting there, like 400,
- 55:18400 million sitting there.
- 55:19Then all of a sudden they're like, oh yeah, yeah. We can do that, huh?
- 55:23Or yeah, we can, we can make sure we do all that, Rocky.
- 55:27Well, I mean, we got, we got a problem here in a local lake.
- 55:29It's been here for over 50 years now, I believe. Nope.
- 55:33And it's a federal lake, though. It's a poor engineer's lake.
- 55:36But the siltation, I mean, it was built for flood control for the mall. Yeah.
- 55:41And it will become a problem here, soon, if we don't do some kind of dredging project.
- 55:46I've seen it at home when these lakes silt, which they're going to silt no matter
- 55:50what. There's nothing you can do to prevent that.
- 55:51But when they start silting out at the mouth, like that's where we hunt,
- 55:55these mottal lakes. It's just where the best hunting is, generally,
- 55:57which is where the marsh areas are.
- 55:59When that stuff starts silting in and starts allowing water to back up in the
- 56:02river faster, and there are floods quicker.
- 56:04So then the whole reason the lake was built was null and void,
- 56:08and then you're back to square one.
- 56:10Yeah. Well, I mean, that's a huge fight. I mean, you're talking...
- 56:15The 400 million scale thing that's not that big to talk like 2 million
- 56:18and you can fix that problem help fix it
- 56:20right it's not it's never there is no permanent fix that obviously
- 56:23but no but it's all preventative preventative maintenance
- 56:26yeah yeah and you know me and you had the argument last week
- 56:29for whatever not argument but the discussion on recreational lake
- 56:33and and flood control it absolutely was low for flood control but yep by the
- 56:38lake being there it's turned into a recreational normal which all these lines
- 56:42do yeah you know but i'm saying like so you're helping everybody because they're
- 56:47continuing to boat in it and spend money in knoxville pella during the summertime so,
- 56:52you know that's it's kind of a a good double-edged sword where you can argue
- 56:56both sides like yeah it's good for that it's good for the hunters good for the
- 56:59habitat but look it's also good for great people here that don't want to jam
- 57:02their boats and other boats at rathbun or sailor you know Yeah,
- 57:07well, and you get the man, that goes to the dredging project. Yep.
- 57:09You get rid of some of that silk, you clean it up.
- 57:12Gives you a recreational area bigger. Gives you more area for the boaters to
- 57:16go and not get stuck. Like, one got stuck running. Like, how's it going to be? That's awesome.
- 57:21Did you ever see that boat up there? No. Wait, wait, we hunted,
- 57:24like, probably 300 yards from it, probably. If that, yeah.
- 57:27And it was just opening day of duck season. What was that, like, three, four years ago?
- 57:31It would have been, I think it's three years ago. No, it had to be longer than
- 57:35that. Because I was in Texas.
- 57:36And before pot it looks that long I don't know I haven't uh no it was the day
- 57:44we shaker lower unit out I don't want to talk about that,
- 57:47that wasn't that long ago that was three years ago I'm pretty sure it was three,
- 57:51but we we set up and they got light on I'm like is there a fucking boat over
- 57:54there they're like yeah he got stuck I'm like what,
- 57:57dude got homie got stuck running from the cops was like a big boat yeah yeah it was a ski boat,
- 58:03geez where did you think you were going guy He apparently didn't know.
- 58:08From the police and going to jail for too many of these. Fuck it,
- 58:12I'm going that way. Don't ever catch me here.
- 58:17But I mean, if you have any questions or comments about this iWill program,
- 58:20before we end this podcast, which we're coming up to pretty quick here,
- 58:24definitely comment them and get those out there as we kind of wrap things up here tonight.
- 58:28It's been a fucking blast tonight. I feel like we came into this not knowing
- 58:32a whole lot about iWill, but I didn't know how long this was going to go.
- 58:36And I was like, shit, we're going to have this podcast. Let's go.
- 58:38Just rest us a little bit. But I feel like we had some good talking points here
- 58:41tonight. I mean, really brought up some good things that people that may listen
- 58:45to this podcast would be like, the fuck's that?
- 58:49And that's the cool thing. Like, that's honestly one of the biggest things that
- 58:52I've noticed about our podcast.
- 58:53Like, we can have something that we think will go on for half an hour,
- 58:57and somebody always brews up a new good idea of something to talk about.
- 59:03That's, like, the coolest shit for them.
- 59:06Do good at stretching the topic out and going into it actually though
- 59:08like not just like yeah it's not in a bad way yeah but but then
- 59:11even along the way we'll find all those little rabbit holes that we've been doing down
- 59:14some good some part of
- 59:18it you know yeah i mean i look forward to this podcast
- 59:21because our numbers on this
- 59:24podcast have gone down since hunting season but when you're
- 59:27strictly like main focus is watercowl hunting
- 59:30when you're doing a podcast like that your numbers are going to go down right
- 59:33yeah in the middle of the year but as we get into things we get into some broader
- 59:38topics like this and we talk about deer hunting and stuff like that we can really
- 59:41brought our eyes with it and reach people that don't or not just reach people
- 59:45but explain stuff to people.
- 59:49Or you know turkey season deer season all of it will talk
- 59:51about fishing in the summer and hopefully reaches people that are not focused
- 59:55on that hunting but once they're like oh i'm not gonna of
- 59:58list of that and you know we're doing deltas one four we're
- 1:00:01creating more decades if you if you're if you have any
- 1:00:04questions about this stuff they'll comment it bill smith god
- 1:00:08i'm not he's saying it's called no focus but this
- 1:00:11dude this dude here he has worked with the dnr in
- 1:00:15iowa for years and he's made a lot of good steps and
- 1:00:17progress on things and i've got
- 1:00:20to know him a little bit just talking to him so the past couple
- 1:00:23years my dad has actually talked to him quite a bit in the past and
- 1:00:26uh if you have any questions also usually bill's
- 1:00:30a good dude and he'll give you like a straight up response of why things are
- 1:00:34the way they are or why there's things that people are wanting to see change
- 1:00:37or if you're looking to try and make a change the stuff he can help you out
- 1:00:42there too because the dudes work with dnr in and out in the government like
- 1:00:45yeah straight he's a straight up dude awesome dude.
- 1:00:48Bill we appreciate that by the way he said
