- 0:57Speaker 4: so I was so excited and I was excited to
- 1:00Speaker 4: get him on. Just hear about the Metallica with just
- 1:02Speaker 4: the slash, the googled all stuff, and then you said it.
- 1:04Speaker 4: His hockey knowledge is incredible. It's so funny. He just
- 1:07Speaker 4: he messaged me today because we posted on our socials.
- 1:11Speaker 4: We posted the part of the interview and Paul B.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Sinnette like liked it, and he's like, oh my god,
- 1:17Speaker 4: biz Nasty liked my like my post. So I was like, man,
- 1:21Speaker 4: he follows it. He loves it. He loves the game
- 1:24Speaker 4: and the hockey, and I mean, it's it's great. It's

- 1:38Speaker 3: Jumping in a lot more here on the pod.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But we want to spread the word when everyone listens
- 1:41Speaker 1: to the podcast, suppor us we're talking hockey and.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Talking other things.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Speaking of other things, Hope everyone had a wonderful holidays.

- 1:48Speaker 1: New Year's. You gotta hear the role my man JD
- 1:50Speaker 1: has been on tell Us your Itinerary since we last
- 1:53Speaker 1: spoke Christmas in New York. A jaunt too Kubec City,
- 1:57Speaker 1: Little Arizeldon there a little Winter Classic.
- 2:00Speaker 4: You're business in just fitting it all in and just
- 2:03Speaker 4: kidding air miles fly and coach like a schmuck. But
- 2:07Speaker 4: I went to Quebec, went to go see my nieces
- 2:09Speaker 4: and nephews.
- 2:09Speaker 1: If you can't afford to go to Europe, went to
- 2:11Speaker 1: a road trip. Just go to Quebec city, go to
- 2:12Speaker 1: Old Quebec and it's stunning. Chateau Fraudnack. You feel like
- 2:15Speaker 1: eighteenth century building is incredible.
- 2:17Speaker 4: We we saw the My mom got tickets for my
- 2:22Speaker 4: my niece and nephew, but it was for us too.
- 2:24Speaker 4: We did a crystal the circ to sile At. They
- 2:26Speaker 4: do like a circus sleet performance on the ice. Oh
- 2:29Speaker 4: my god, in incredible, like just such a fun time.
- 2:34Speaker 4: And and you know my my nephews, you know, barely
- 2:39Speaker 4: over over two years old, like he's oh and and
- 2:43Speaker 4: was like loving it. And and every time there's a
- 2:45Speaker 4: pause in the action, you just hear him and he's
- 2:48Speaker 4: he only speaks French and he's going Brevo and then
- 2:52Speaker 4: everybody's losing their mind in the stands laughing. So that
- 2:56Speaker 4: was great, It was it was it was a really
- 2:57Speaker 4: fun time and it was good to see family. But
- 2:59Speaker 4: then yeah, I went ended up going to the Winter
- 3:01Speaker 4: Classic afterwards. So but would you do? I didn't even
- 3:04Speaker 4: That's year.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I was in Toronto for a week, saw my folks,
- 3:06Speaker 1: which was wonderful. Did you know kitty stuffis? And that
- 3:09Speaker 1: saw my cousins which was good. Then I flew to
- 3:10Speaker 1: winter Peg, and then I came back home for New Year.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So Winnipeg, I remember you told me earlier when it
- 3:16Speaker 1: came to Deadmonton, which I found a little underwhelming.
- 3:18Speaker 3: You said, listen, there's some great restaurants there.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'm curious your scouted report on Winnipeg because while I
- 3:22Speaker 1: was there for our Canadian listeners, it was around minus five.
- 3:25Speaker 1: For the Americans, it was maybe twenty five degrees, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: for this time of year, wasn't bad for Manitoba. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: that's a gritty town. I gotta listen. They love their jets.
- 3:33Speaker 1: They got a great team right now.
- 3:34Speaker 3: But Winnipeg. I spent a month one night there. I mean,
- 3:36Speaker 3: let's be.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Honest, Yeah it's great. They do have a good steak
- 3:39Speaker 4: house Highs, really good. And then I mean most guys
- 3:43Speaker 4: just sattle up at the Sharkis or the Earl's there,
- 3:46Speaker 4: which I'm sure mentioned.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I said to Andy Patrello, I said, well, we're gonna
- 3:49Speaker 1: get dinner. And I said, Jody Shelley tells me Shark Club.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And we went there to Sunday afternoon.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I'm telling you, three degenerates in that place, like, Okay,
- 3:55Speaker 1: maybe Shark Club's better post jets win sou.
- 3:58Speaker 4: With the casino with the casino attached. Did you see
- 4:02Speaker 4: that at the Shark Club? They have the casino right there.
- 4:04Speaker 4: You can get chips to buy your beers with. Because
- 4:07Speaker 4: what bad.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Stable the winnipick When someone says to you, hey, the
- 4:10Speaker 1: best thing is you can go to the arena without
- 4:12Speaker 1: going outside. That's the selling point, like, hey, you don't
- 4:15Speaker 1: have to venture out, just yeah you could.
- 4:19Speaker 4: You could go through the tunnels like a mole person.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was tunneling. That's what I was doing
- 4:23Speaker 1: to the holidays. But I want to hear more about
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Winter Classic. It's an incredible experience. You were there, Chicago.
- 4:29Speaker 1: The only thing better than Metallica Sinatra. Use a little
- 4:31Speaker 1: Sonatra in your I g of course the Great song
- 4:33Speaker 1: with Francus sing of Chicago, Mitago.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Chicago, My god? How was it? Though? Good times?
- 4:43Speaker 4: It was great. I mean, there's so much to unpacked
- 4:46Speaker 4: from that, you would Luffman together. Uh. We then got
- 4:50Speaker 4: Gary Bettman, the Great Gary. He came on and the
- 4:55Speaker 4: fun I'll give you a quick tiboo on that. So
- 4:57Speaker 4: we're interviewing him and he comes up and it was
- 4:58Speaker 4: kind of rainy and windy, and you know, we didn't
- 5:01Speaker 4: have a we didn't really have the best of setups
- 5:03Speaker 4: were hold and umbrellas. So he pulls up and Tony
- 5:07Speaker 4: Luffman's got to hold the umbrella for Gary Bedman and
- 5:10Speaker 4: I've never seen Gary. Tony Luffman was shaking because he's like,
- 5:13Speaker 4: I cannot get carry wet and I cannot like bump
- 5:17Speaker 4: his head. So he's like has interview and he's like
- 5:20Speaker 4: shaking like a leaf. And I'm laughing because I'm just
- 5:23Speaker 4: watching this. So I'm on the end and Rupper he's
- 5:26Speaker 4: in between Rubber and Lufty and I'm on the end.
- 5:28Speaker 4: And for some reason we went headsets and there just
- 5:31Speaker 4: wasn't a great return from secaucus, so we couldn't hear
- 5:34Speaker 4: ourselves talking, so we had to kind of cock our
- 5:38Speaker 4: you know, pull the headphone off. So Mike Grupp goes
- 5:42Speaker 4: Mike rup goes to Gary, and he goes and he
- 5:45Speaker 4: grabs without asking Gary because Gary's like, I can't really hear,
- 5:49Speaker 4: So he grabs the headphone and pulls it off Gary's
- 5:52Speaker 4: ear and goes, hey, Gary, just so you can hear,
- 5:55Speaker 4: you want to kind of pull this off. And Gary
- 5:57Speaker 4: looks at him and just goes takes it it, just
- 6:00Speaker 4: puts it back over his ear.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Power move. Thanks for the advice. Good. This is thirty
- 6:06Speaker 3: years and like you.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Know, ruppers like six seven towering human and Roberts just
- 6:12Speaker 4: like looks at me and I'm just dying laughing because
- 6:14Speaker 4: I'm like, do not touch the og. Gary Bettman led him.
- 6:20Speaker 4: He's gonna be fine him, He'll red lips, let him cook. Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and then we're supposed to get John Hamm, but we
- 6:25Speaker 4: got we got iced on John ham.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I want to hear more of this John
- 6:28Speaker 3: Hamm experience.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Back to Luffman though again, imagine him going to broadcasting
- 6:31Speaker 1: school previous episode. You mocked the fact I'm a Ryerson
- 6:33Speaker 1: guy Toronto Metropolitan University. I couldn't imagine that TMU. They
- 6:36Speaker 1: told him say, listen, in the midst of broadcast.
- 6:38Speaker 3: You may one day have to hold an umbrella.
- 6:40Speaker 1: For the commissioner of the biggest support in the country.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But regardless, I'm sure Tony handle Well. I met John
- 6:45Speaker 1: Hamm before Critics' Choice Awards.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Nice enough guy.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it was overly warm, but I dropped
- 6:50Speaker 1: the Blues Cardinals stuff, Saint Louis. That's going to be
- 6:52Speaker 1: endearing to him. Why did he ice you, guys? Was
- 6:54Speaker 1: he just too busy promoting whatever? He's new He's a
- 6:57Speaker 1: new show called Landman Billy Bob Thornton.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he does well.
- 7:00Speaker 3: He was.
- 7:00Speaker 4: We met him the night before at Kelly Chase had
- 7:04Speaker 4: his he had an event at charity event. He wasn't there. Unfortunately,
- 7:07Speaker 4: he's he's kind of going through the treatment and and
- 7:10Speaker 4: he's battling his ass off and and honestly it was
- 7:13Speaker 4: it was amazing to see the event. John ham hosted
- 7:15Speaker 4: it with Catherine Tappan and then they had like Gretzky Celios,
- 7:19Speaker 4: Darren Pang was there, they had Brian Bickel, they had
- 7:23Speaker 4: Al mckinnis was there, they had all these all the
- 7:26Speaker 4: top blues guys. Chicago's Jeremy Ronick was there and they
- 7:30Speaker 4: hosted this. The Stanley Cup was there. It was really
- 7:32Speaker 4: cool and they just called it, you know, they were
- 7:35Speaker 4: hamming it up with John Hammon, and uh, he was
- 7:38Speaker 4: supposed to the morning kind of. We woke up in
- 7:41Speaker 4: the morning and he was great, super nice to actually
- 7:44Speaker 4: really nice guy. So we wake up in the morning
- 7:47Speaker 4: and Steve Tronzano or producers texting with him, being like, hey,
- 7:51Speaker 4: we're gonna have you do like your three keys to
- 7:52Speaker 4: the game.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Interject he has ham cell or it's Ham's agent cell.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Let's be honest, it was it was John Hamm two ms, okay,
- 8:02Speaker 4: so it was him. It was actually it wasn't just
- 8:04Speaker 4: like you know, yeah, no, no, yeah. So he's texting
- 8:07Speaker 4: with him, and honestly, like John ham sending back like
- 8:11Speaker 4: we said, what are your three keys for the game?
- 8:12Speaker 4: We're gonna do something cool with you. He sends like
- 8:14Speaker 4: a blurb like he knows his shit like hockey fit.
- 8:18Speaker 4: You're right, no, no, he know. He was like and everything
- 8:20Speaker 4: he said, which was hilarious, happened in the game. So
- 8:22Speaker 4: I gotta give him credit there, give me this.
- 8:24Speaker 3: One thing he said.
- 8:25Speaker 4: He said, he said, when we're playing our game, we're
- 8:27Speaker 4: moving up the ice quickly with our enter defenseman or
- 8:30Speaker 4: joining the rush and he said, we're also very good
- 8:32Speaker 4: net front, getting you know, greasy goals, getting in front
- 8:35Speaker 4: of the goal. And two of the goals were guys
- 8:38Speaker 4: in front of the net and I was dying. I'm like,
- 8:39Speaker 4: this guy knows his ship with that old dusty hat
- 8:42Speaker 4: that he wears. And anyway, so what I heard was
- 8:46Speaker 4: that he the traffic was bad, so he's twenty minutes late,
- 8:50Speaker 4: and he was supposed to do TNT in us and
- 8:53Speaker 4: he ended up. You know, obviously TNT had a he
- 8:55Speaker 4: had a nice warm set, so you know, he took
- 8:57Speaker 4: the warm set, and you know, good for him. He's smart.
- 9:00Speaker 4: But the best part of it is that he walked
- 9:03Speaker 4: by our table and gave us. He gave me this one.
- 9:07Speaker 4: And I'm like, oh, yeah, we're getting John ham They're like, no,
- 9:09Speaker 4: we're not getting John hamp And he's just like yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 4: He's like and I'm like and I'm like, are you
- 9:16Speaker 4: He gave me that one. And then at the end
- 9:18Speaker 4: of the game he walked by and I was like, hey,
- 9:19Speaker 4: John Goodwin and he just he's like yeah and taps
- 9:22Speaker 4: me on the shoulder and walks by, and I'm like
- 9:25Speaker 4: I wanted to just I just felt smaller than I
- 9:28Speaker 4: felt like an absolute rookie. Honestly, I felt like twel
- 9:31Speaker 4: feels right now where we're just we got him with
- 9:33Speaker 4: his short mic. He's waiting to dust that thing off,
- 9:36Speaker 4: and he's we're not giving him an inch.
- 9:38Speaker 3: You're not getting an inch. Towel, shut up, towel, shut up.
- 9:42Speaker 1: As far as the Winner Classic itself, be careful with
- 9:46Speaker 1: your answer.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Do you think it's played out a little bit?
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean one event, now there's four a you know,
- 9:50Speaker 1: everyone's like, okay, well your thoughts.
- 9:52Speaker 4: On this, okay, you want my thoughts, want you honest
- 9:55Speaker 4: opinion on this, don't forget honest thoughts. Okay, honest thoughts.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I originally before I never played in one, was like ough,
- 10:02Speaker 4: like it would be so bad. Get get pulled me
- 10:05Speaker 4: out of my routine. You know, we're creatures of habit.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I kind of talked about it the night before. It's freezing,
- 10:09Speaker 4: it's cold. I did Met Life last year. I was like, oh,
- 10:14Speaker 4: this is really cool. This is you know, it was
- 10:16Speaker 4: kind of it was very you know, Met Life is
- 10:18Speaker 4: so big and and the fans are so far away.
- 10:20Speaker 4: But I thought it was a really cool event. Man.
- 10:22Speaker 4: This was this was awesome. I was like, I would
- 10:25Speaker 4: want to play in this and strap my skates on.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I mean, Jim Cornelius and we we we talked about
- 10:31Speaker 4: it's it's Cornelius or it's Cornelie tal what is what?
- 10:35Speaker 4: How to pronounce his last name again?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Tala's first time jumping in with the Corneilsen Corneilsen.
- 10:40Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Jim Cornelson. I got to get that right
- 10:42Speaker 4: because he's an absolute legend. So fans at home, yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 4: we'll just edit that. We're just gonna d that or don't.
- 10:48Speaker 4: He sings that iconic anthem, which I talked about in
- 10:50Speaker 4: episode one about the best road city was United Center
- 10:53Speaker 4: for me. Loved it. He was up on the dugout
- 10:56Speaker 4: up top and they like introduced him and the place
- 11:01Speaker 4: went bananas and it was and you know, and at
- 11:05Speaker 4: the United Center they cheered during the anthem. It was
- 11:08Speaker 4: one of the coolest things I've ever heard or seen
- 11:11Speaker 4: in my career and in my life. Like I had goosebumps.
- 11:15Speaker 4: They had the bombers fly over, had the fireworks, and
- 11:17Speaker 4: then after he sang the anthem and he crushed it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Half the stadium was blues fans and there was a
- 11:24Speaker 4: let's go Blues versus Let's go Hawks, and was and
- 11:27Speaker 4: everybody says, oh, you can't really hear the fans. It
- 11:30Speaker 4: was so loud in there. And even Jim Montgomery like
- 11:32Speaker 4: they interviewed him on the bench in the first period
- 11:36Speaker 4: and he was like, how crazy was the chanting of
- 11:39Speaker 4: Let's go Blues and let's go Hawks. It was the
- 11:41Speaker 4: coolest thing. So it was like it was very well done.
- 11:43Speaker 4: I mean, chance the rapper was there in between the
- 11:45Speaker 4: first smashing pumpkins, which just two opposite sides of effections.
- 11:49Speaker 3: So you've got a chance. The rapper got Billy Corgan amazing.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Oh he was.
- 11:53Speaker 4: He was great. He's saying the seventh thing stretch wasn't
- 11:56Speaker 4: the best though. Billy Corgan he looked like he was
- 11:58Speaker 4: didn't want to dust off the old pipes there, but
- 12:01Speaker 4: his his it was great. He played a smash pumpkins,
- 12:04Speaker 4: played them on the teams, which was crazy.
- 12:07Speaker 1: So a little butterfly wings disarm, I mean thirty three
- 12:12Speaker 1: classic pumpkins of the nineties.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Man, I'm a it's we're we're me and my wife
- 12:16Speaker 4: are you know? My wife showed up to it. And
- 12:18Speaker 4: that's the funny thing, you know, I wanted to tell
- 12:20Speaker 4: you this before, but you came on. You know, you
- 12:23Speaker 4: never come on early.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I came up with the right time.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Yeah, well you come on and then you're like, hey,
- 12:27Speaker 4: let's start, and then you're just you clock in. You're
- 12:29Speaker 4: like one of those guys you get to the rink last,
- 12:31Speaker 4: you leave first. Not a team guy. But anyway, so
- 12:34Speaker 4: we're sitting there and and I'm sitting there on stage,
- 12:38Speaker 4: you know, freezing my tushop, and then all of a sudden,
- 12:40Speaker 4: on the jumbo traumat I riggly. They put our faces
- 12:44Speaker 4: up there and I'd scripted and they go full stadium
- 12:48Speaker 4: and they go like a thirty second intro. And I
- 12:52Speaker 4: brought my wife came there because she just finished a
- 12:55Speaker 4: Broadway show, and she's like, hey, I'm gonna like, I'll
- 12:57Speaker 4: fall you around and I'll get some content for you.
- 12:59Speaker 4: And because she's a supportive wife. Yes, but it was
- 13:01Speaker 4: so cold. So I see this thing back there and
- 13:05Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god, I can't get to my phone.
- 13:06Speaker 4: So I'm looking around and my wife was warming up
- 13:09Speaker 4: in the green room and I'm like screaming. I'm like, Jillian, Gillian,
- 13:13Speaker 4: get out here. Film that film that we needn't get
- 13:15Speaker 4: we need to get proof. We need to get proof.
- 13:18Speaker 3: And then she's like, what happened?
- 13:19Speaker 4: What happened?
- 13:19Speaker 3: I was like, where the hell were you?
- 13:22Speaker 4: I'm like, we're trying to get I'm trying to get something,
- 13:24Speaker 4: trying to get something that I'm like, the NHL just
- 13:26Speaker 4: like gifted us this amazing little promotion at Wrigley, like incredible.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Come watch Unscripted with and then you know, I think
- 13:34Speaker 4: they didn't say your name right though they saidn't mind right,
- 13:37Speaker 4: but they're like somebody in demurs.
- 13:39Speaker 3: That's our recap the holidays in the Winter Classic, and
- 13:41Speaker 3: we come back.
- 13:42Speaker 1: We got more to discuss, including some coaching changes, little
- 13:46Speaker 1: World Junior's action.
- 13:47Speaker 3: We don't need a guest today.
- 13:48Speaker 1: We got so much to talk about as we also
- 13:50Speaker 1: recap the great year in hockey that was twenty twenty four.
- 13:52Speaker 3: You're listening to Unscripted.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Let's keep things rolling the Blackhawks, listen. It's been a
- 14:07Speaker 1: horrible season for this team, There's no question about it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: They fired their coach, Luke Richardson, Conabdard sofhtmore slump, whatever
- 14:12Speaker 1: you want to call it. Ten goals, a minus eighteen
- 14:15Speaker 1: and thirty eight games this season, the fact that you
- 14:16Speaker 1: were able to see the Blackhawks, you were able to
- 14:18Speaker 1: experience all that there was at the Winner Classic. How
- 14:21Speaker 1: about your thoughts on the Chicago team. Are you surprised
- 14:24Speaker 1: it's been such a tough sledging for them?
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah, a little bit. You know, I didn't have them
- 14:28Speaker 4: high up this year in the standings, but I was like,
- 14:30Speaker 4: you know what, they're at least going to be competitive,
- 14:32Speaker 4: and you know, they might lose some games if we
- 14:34Speaker 4: were going to walk away with like, hey, they're kind
- 14:36Speaker 4: of kicking around. But I talked to a couple of
- 14:38Speaker 4: the guys during the event, just pulled them aside and
- 14:42Speaker 4: was like, hey, how you guys doing and with the change?
- 14:44Speaker 4: And I asked them about Andre Swordinson and everybody had
- 14:47Speaker 4: rave reviews for him. The city's great, but they're just like, man,
- 14:50Speaker 4: they're just like, we are confident that we have the pieces,
- 14:53Speaker 4: but they're like, we just can't seem to put it
- 14:56Speaker 4: together for sixty minutes. And with this team, And what
- 14:59Speaker 4: I noticed with them is when the wheels come off,
- 15:01Speaker 4: they come off like they'll be in the game. You know,
- 15:04Speaker 4: they were, they're playing good. It was it was three
- 15:06Speaker 4: to one, but they you know the better of the
- 15:07Speaker 4: chances in the second period and they go and get
- 15:11Speaker 4: They have a breakaway on Taylor Hall ended up get
- 15:14Speaker 4: stealing the puff from Cam Fowler and he walks in
- 15:16Speaker 4: and binding to makes an unbelievable save. And then immediately
- 15:19Speaker 4: after they give up a goal, like a goal that
- 15:21Speaker 4: shouldn't go in. It's a miscoverage in front of the net,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and then it's like bang another goal right after, and
- 15:26Speaker 4: it's five to one, and it's just everything comes in bunches,
- 15:29Speaker 4: and you know, when you look at their numbers, like
- 15:31Speaker 4: their penalty kill wasn't good last game at the Winner Classic,
- 15:34Speaker 4: but they're like top three in the league and penalty kill,
- 15:37Speaker 4: and they're like top fifteen in power play. They just
- 15:41Speaker 4: can't seem to put it together. And I don't know
- 15:42Speaker 4: if it's just a lack of confidence or lack of structure,
- 15:45Speaker 4: and you know, it's it's tough. I you look at
- 15:51Speaker 4: that team and you're like, you feel like they should
- 15:53Speaker 4: do better, but it just is just not working right now.
- 15:57Speaker 4: And I mean, honestly, what can you do. I think
- 15:59Speaker 4: a guy like Jason Dickinson's probably I'm looking at him
- 16:02Speaker 4: as a guy that's gonna get traded. I think he's
- 16:05Speaker 4: played really well for this team and he's in a
- 16:07Speaker 4: good contract, so I can see him getting dealt. There's
- 16:11Speaker 4: a couple guys I think you can see getting moved
- 16:13Speaker 4: at the deadline and them just going for another pick,
- 16:16Speaker 4: kind of what they did with Taves and Kane and
- 16:19Speaker 4: kind of try to strike gold because Connor struggled, but
- 16:25Speaker 4: he's trying and he's working hard, but he just needs
- 16:28Speaker 4: you know. I just think he's gonna have to go
- 16:30Speaker 4: through this and I think it's going to help his
- 16:31Speaker 4: career later on. But yeah, they're just they can't seem
- 16:35Speaker 4: to put it together. And conversely, you look at Saint
- 16:37Speaker 4: Louis and I'm like, this is a team that should
- 16:39Speaker 4: make the playoffs. Watching them like they are. They are
- 16:41Speaker 4: as advertised and I'm telling people watch out because I
- 16:45Speaker 4: see them sneaking into one of the wildcard spots. I
- 16:47Speaker 4: don't think in the Central they can knock off those
- 16:49Speaker 4: top three teams. It's just too much. Those top three
- 16:52Speaker 4: teams Colorado, Dallas, Winnipeg are you know. I know Minnesota's there,
- 16:57Speaker 4: but I think Minnesota will drop into the wildcard spot.
- 17:00Speaker 4: But yeah, those three teams are Juggernauts, but I think
- 17:03Speaker 4: Saint Louis is right there at the end of the year.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So the Blues you're hoping in the arrow trunning up
- 17:08Speaker 1: from Chicago, it just seems like it's years away from
- 17:11Speaker 1: that area. E Bench of Caanaan Tave speaking of years
- 17:13Speaker 1: away the Red Wings, I thought, eventually this is gonna
- 17:15Speaker 1: be their year, right Iizerman has been in charge for
- 17:17Speaker 1: a few years. We've seen his success previously with the Lightning,
- 17:19Speaker 1: but all of a sudden he's now the Grinch. As
- 17:22Speaker 1: he fires Jerick the Land the day after Christmas, I'm like,
- 17:25Speaker 1: are you kidding him?
- 17:25Speaker 3: Like? Wow?
- 17:26Speaker 1: He brings in Todd McClellan. Of course, you know, well
- 17:28Speaker 1: former Sharks coach, he had considerable success there. You feel
- 17:31Speaker 1: like Stevie Wise under the gun right now, right Jay,
- 17:34Speaker 1: Like it's been a few years now, they haven't been
- 17:35Speaker 1: the playoffs. They're like, how many more years gonna go here?
- 17:37Speaker 1: So that's why that coaching ching happens. What can you
- 17:40Speaker 1: tell you about playing for a guy like Todd McClellan.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Well, first I'll talk Todd McComb before I get into
- 17:45Speaker 4: to Stevie.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Why.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Uh, But yeah, Todd is Todd's very detail oriented. I
- 17:52Speaker 4: was talking about on the network. I think guys aren't
- 17:55Speaker 4: gonna guys are really gonna know what their job is
- 17:58Speaker 4: and they're gonna understand what they need to do to
- 18:00Speaker 4: perform and to win. And the thing with Todd is
- 18:02Speaker 4: he lays everything out for you and he runs structured
- 18:05Speaker 4: practices so you know where everything should be and where
- 18:09Speaker 4: he should be on the ice, and then from there
- 18:11Speaker 4: he just tells you just go and play. You know,
- 18:12Speaker 4: after their first loss, he had a quote where he
- 18:15Speaker 4: was screaming at them on the ice, just being like
- 18:17Speaker 4: Joseff and play like, just play hockey, like relax. But
- 18:20Speaker 4: he gives you all the details so you can relax.
- 18:23Speaker 4: And you know, the one thing with him that I
- 18:25Speaker 4: hope he implements, and it seemed the couple games I've
- 18:28Speaker 4: watched since he's been there, it seems like he's got
- 18:30Speaker 4: went away a little bit from that heavy one three
- 18:33Speaker 4: one that he implemented in La which I think he
- 18:35Speaker 4: just got married to. And that's what ended up causing
- 18:38Speaker 4: his demise because the Kings, initially when he was putting
- 18:42Speaker 4: that one three one, they just didn't have a good
- 18:43Speaker 4: enough team and they needed to kind of sit in
- 18:46Speaker 4: a trap and then when they got better, he just
- 18:49Speaker 4: wouldn't come off of that. And he just kind of
- 18:51Speaker 4: fell in love with that one three one. So I
- 18:53Speaker 4: just hope he doesn't go back to that because there's
- 18:56Speaker 4: too much talent on that team. But again we say
- 18:59Speaker 4: too much talent on Detroit, but like.
- 19:01Speaker 1: There's six there instead of a wild card spot, they'd
- 19:03Speaker 1: have to catch six teams.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but but like what is Eiser been doing? Like
- 19:09Speaker 4: what's their direction? Like goaltending? Do they really have a
- 19:12Speaker 4: bona fide goalie? No, he had Talbot for a little bit, but.
- 19:19Speaker 1: They really believe that Raymond Larkin's right most out of
- 19:22Speaker 1: that that fount like the nucleus.
- 19:23Speaker 3: But only there's enough around those guys.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Here's the thing with most Cider. I'm not sure. I'm
- 19:29Speaker 4: not one hundred percent sold on him yet. I think
- 19:32Speaker 4: he needs to. I'm glad Trentyoni's there. He's the d
- 19:34Speaker 4: coach for Todd. I think he's gonna teach him a
- 19:37Speaker 4: lot of things. I think he tries to do too
- 19:39Speaker 4: much and needs to kind of you know, he's a
- 19:43Speaker 4: physical defenseman, can be good defensively. I don't like him
- 19:47Speaker 4: running the power play. I think they need somebody else
- 19:49Speaker 4: running the power play, uh, because you know, and I
- 19:52Speaker 4: think that's gonna happen. They got that. If you if
- 19:55Speaker 4: you're watching the World Juniors, that Axel, Sandy and Pelica
- 19:58Speaker 4: is going to be running that Detroit power play very soon.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Uh.
- 20:02Speaker 4: And then yeah, you know they brought in Tarasenko. It's
- 20:05Speaker 4: kind of playing better Showtime's not really doing Showtime things.
- 20:09Speaker 4: So they just it seems to be the story with
- 20:12Speaker 4: them in the past five years. They just hang around
- 20:14Speaker 4: outside the wildcard spot and they just can't put it together.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and like I said, they'd have to catch Islanders
- 20:21Speaker 1: has Flyers, Blue Jackets, Penguins and the Otawa Centaer's so
- 20:24Speaker 1: good look top of clim that's gonna be a challenge.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I want to piggyback to your point previously.
- 20:27Speaker 1: But Saint Louis so wild cards, As you said, the
- 20:29Speaker 1: central right now goes Winnipeg, Minnesota, Colorado.
- 20:31Speaker 3: You think Minnesota dips a little bit.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so wildcards right now are Dallas, Calgary, Vancouver, Saint Louis.
- 20:37Speaker 3: You think the Blues would get one of those. I
- 20:38Speaker 3: think you think the Flames would go down a little bit.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I think yeah, I just think the way the Flames are,
- 20:43Speaker 4: they I can't see them being buyers at the deadline
- 20:45Speaker 4: and everything that Doug Armstrong has done with Camp Found.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I'm just saying like it's gonna be a highly tested
- 20:51Speaker 4: it's gonna be tight. I can't see. I mean, Colorado
- 20:53Speaker 4: looks unbelievable right now. You know they won five straight.
- 20:57Speaker 4: They just you know, they just inc Mackenzie Blackwood. They're very,
- 21:02Speaker 4: very good and very dangerous. I think they'll finished second
- 21:05Speaker 4: or first behind Winnipeg, and then you know, Winnipeg's Winnipeg.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I just sing Minnesota. They they just lost spurge and
- 21:11Speaker 4: it looked like last night with that greasy slew foot
- 21:13Speaker 4: by Lulue on the Nashville Predators.
- 21:17Speaker 1: First round pick, Zachary lu Zachary l let's go World Juniors.
- 21:22Speaker 1: We knew going in Fellows talking to smart people, smart
- 21:25Speaker 1: of than me, who said, listen, Canada's.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Not the favorite here at the World Juniors. It's a
- 21:29Speaker 3: really young team.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So Gavin mccanna number one pick in twenty twenty six,
- 21:32Speaker 1: awesome Shaffer is gonna push next year as well.
- 21:34Speaker 3: But it's a young team.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Like, just be cautious and I'm like, all right, well,
- 21:38Speaker 1: we certainly wasn't expecting a loss against Latvia. Although something
- 21:41Speaker 1: about these Latian goalies, Jay, this guy's will step up
- 21:43Speaker 1: man when you leave. Yeah, your archer's herbs and your
- 21:45Speaker 1: archer selous. I'm like, yeah, watch that Laptean goalies International tournament.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And then against USA, you clearly saw America's got a
- 21:51Speaker 1: great top line, they got more offensive talent. And now
- 21:54Speaker 1: Canada's got to place Checkia in the Thursday quarterfinal. We
- 21:58Speaker 1: king at score, it's gonna be a tight game. It's
- 21:59Speaker 1: in Ottawa. Ho ites, blah blah blah.
- 22:01Speaker 3: You could have Canada going out the quarters.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Your thoughts, I know, I think I think they'll I hope, yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 4: I mean they lose Matt Schaeffer, which is huge to
- 22:10Speaker 4: broken collarbone, probably their best Defenseman. I don't know what
- 22:14Speaker 4: the coaching staff's doing there. I honestly scratching my head.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I mean everybody. It pisses me off because everybody's sitting
- 22:23Speaker 4: there and listen. You know, you look back fifteen twenty
- 22:27Speaker 4: years ago, or you know, even ten years ago the
- 22:29Speaker 4: dominance of Canada, and everybody goes, well, you know, we
- 22:31Speaker 4: played that hard nose brand of hockey and and we're
- 22:33Speaker 4: running around in Jordan Touto and Dion Fineff and I'm like, yes,
- 22:37Speaker 4: I understand that the game is different now. It's it's
- 22:41Speaker 4: everything is is skill. It's a fast based game. You
- 22:45Speaker 4: see them trying to play physical. They you know, they're
- 22:48Speaker 4: one of the most penalized teams in the tournament. They
- 22:51Speaker 4: took seven to eight seven minors against the USA. You're
- 22:55Speaker 4: not gonna beat USA. It's again, if you're gonna go
- 22:58Speaker 4: out and play the way you played in the nineties
- 23:00Speaker 4: when you were hitting that those Canada teams took a
- 23:02Speaker 4: lot of penalties, you're gonna you know, you're playing all
- 23:05Speaker 4: these teams that all these young kids now they're just
- 23:07Speaker 4: they're so good on the power play. You look at
- 23:10Speaker 4: US scowl. Yeah, like they had they had they outshot them. Obviously,
- 23:15Speaker 4: people are gonna say they had the more dangerous challenges.
- 23:17Speaker 4: The US say, but they had a lot of chances.
- 23:18Speaker 4: They're not generating enough offensively, so it's like they're they've
- 23:22Speaker 4: been on the perimeters. So yeah, maybe being more physical
- 23:24Speaker 4: going to the net and like getting in front of
- 23:26Speaker 4: the net. But like people coming out and saying like
- 23:28Speaker 4: they got to run people over and scare people and
- 23:31Speaker 4: and this and that. I'm like, the game's called differently.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Now you're going to be in the box the whole
- 23:34Speaker 4: game with which they are. And what's gonna happen is
- 23:37Speaker 4: you're gonna give up three goals and and you can
- 23:40Speaker 4: see uh, Cole Eiserman when he scored that one of
- 23:42Speaker 4: him screaming at Easton Kawan like good penalty bought and
- 23:46Speaker 4: and it's just like these kids, you're just gonna give
- 23:50Speaker 4: fuel them. These these are all their power play merchants,
- 23:53Speaker 4: especially us, Like I don't listen, I'm not sold on us.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I've watched them. I don't you know, although they.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Are Juggernaut necessarily, No, I mean.
- 24:01Speaker 4: The best, the best, Their best player right now has
- 24:03Speaker 4: been Cole Hudson. But and then Trey Augustine had his
- 24:06Speaker 4: best game last game, and he could shoot the lights
- 24:10Speaker 4: out as a goaltender. That's why I think like him
- 24:12Speaker 4: and Carter George, they could power them to the to
- 24:15Speaker 4: the finals. Like Carter George, you know that was he
- 24:18Speaker 4: had two shutouts before that game. And I just think,
- 24:21Speaker 4: you know, listen, they just gave too many chances, too
- 24:25Speaker 4: many power too many power players, and their penalty kill
- 24:27Speaker 4: has been shit. It's like seventy seven percent. So that's
- 24:30Speaker 4: the bigger issue. Is the bigger issue in youth hockey
- 24:33Speaker 4: now is hockey IQ teaching kids the fundamentals of the
- 24:37Speaker 4: game of where to go when you don't have the puck.
- 24:39Speaker 4: That's the biggest issue I see in hockey because every
- 24:42Speaker 4: goal that scored, watch the play develop. Kids do not
- 24:47Speaker 4: are puck watching. They're not going the right way, they're
- 24:50Speaker 4: not stopping on pucks, they're not staying within their details.
- 24:53Speaker 4: So you can yell at guys to go hit all
- 24:55Speaker 4: you want, but they're not even in the right position
- 24:57Speaker 4: to to give themselves an opportunity to hit. So like,
- 25:00Speaker 4: you got to teach that fundamentals. And I don't think
- 25:03Speaker 4: that's the biggest thing that's lacking in Canadian hockey. Yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 4: teams have caught up skill wise, you know countries in
- 25:08Speaker 4: Sweden they might be more skilled than us, and and
- 25:11Speaker 4: probably always were a little bit, but we had structure,
- 25:14Speaker 4: like we played the right way, We had some defensive
- 25:16Speaker 4: stal warts back in those days. I just don't see it, like,
- 25:19Speaker 4: I don't see the d side that good anymore. And
- 25:23Speaker 4: I think there's a huge gap in that not only
- 25:26Speaker 4: on Team Canada, but in U sports, like the gap
- 25:29Speaker 4: in learning how to play defensively and your defense IQ
- 25:33Speaker 4: is so much lower than the offensive side. It's it's
- 25:36Speaker 4: very scary to watch.
- 25:38Speaker 1: So we'll get some more international stories. Can you give
- 25:40Speaker 1: me a little taste of what your Beijing experience was?
- 25:42Speaker 3: Like, Oh, it's too we'll do another time. We'll give
- 25:48Speaker 3: me a one minute tease for a ten minute story,
- 25:50Speaker 3: which we'll do next time.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Oh, we'll do no, I mean the tea's is just
- 25:54Speaker 4: it was during like the COVID ah that Covid hubbub
- 25:57Speaker 4: and Bally who and and you know, the rest of
- 26:00Speaker 4: the world was kind of open and ish and the
- 26:02Speaker 4: NHL didn't send the the NHL didn't send the players,
- 26:06Speaker 4: so you know, we kind of put together a team
- 26:08Speaker 4: that wasn't in the NHL at the time and which
- 26:11Speaker 4: I'm you know, so grateful as a part of it.
- 26:12Speaker 4: And it was awesome, but like, you know, you had
- 26:14Speaker 4: to walk around with a mask on, you had to
- 26:15Speaker 4: be distanced, you know the whole you know, you're eating
- 26:18Speaker 4: in the you're eating in the cafeteria and there's like
- 26:21Speaker 4: plexiglass everywhere, and it was.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Not the rockest Olympic experience one might expect because of
- 26:26Speaker 1: the circumstances around it.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Yeah, like it, but you know, it just was didn't
- 26:31Speaker 4: have the same feeling. And that's what a lot of
- 26:32Speaker 4: you know, when I talked to people that had been
- 26:34Speaker 4: to multiple ones and listen, I the opening ceremony just incredible.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Obviously opening ceremony wearing a double mask. I'm like, I'm like, okay,
- 26:43Speaker 4: like this is great, and I'm just like that and
- 26:45Speaker 4: it's like, you know, you want to get out and
- 26:48Speaker 4: show the pearly whites a little bit, but we it
- 26:51Speaker 4: was other than wearing sixteen masks on my face. It
- 26:55Speaker 4: was incredible to walk down in that stadium and like
- 26:59Speaker 4: see everything and and and be a part of the
- 27:03Speaker 4: whole experience. Like the opening and closing ceremony is so great.
- 27:06Speaker 4: But you know the funny thing about that is I
- 27:08Speaker 4: was playing in Russia during that time. And that's the
- 27:10Speaker 4: tidbit I'll lev on is well, I flew back after
- 27:12Speaker 4: the Olympics and the war started like between Ukraine Russia
- 27:17Speaker 4: like two days later, and it was like crazy because
- 27:21Speaker 4: I'm like I've just heared in all this COVID nonsense
- 27:24Speaker 4: and now I'm in the middle of you know, whatever
- 27:26Speaker 4: you want to, you know, a war that third man
- 27:31Speaker 4: in Yeah, exactly. So I got the hell out of
- 27:33Speaker 4: there and then no, we're back here. But it's it was,
- 27:35Speaker 4: it was the whole experience is great. It was just
- 27:38Speaker 4: I felt like I was living in a movie during
- 27:40Speaker 4: that time, and I was just like, what.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 27:44Speaker 4: There's nothing there. There's no greater feeling than you know,
- 27:48Speaker 4: having representing your family and your country. And and you know,
- 27:52Speaker 4: I I tell people this and they're like, well, you know,
- 27:53Speaker 4: it's about the Maype. Yeah, it's about the Maple leave
- 27:55Speaker 4: one hundred percent. You know, I'm proud to be Canadian,
- 27:58Speaker 4: but like I'm proud to like have my family's name
- 28:01Speaker 4: on the back and all the sacrifices that they made
- 28:04Speaker 4: for me, and I get to represent them as much
- 28:07Speaker 4: as myself and represent all the people that helped me
- 28:10Speaker 4: throughout my career. And you know, the jerseys are so
- 28:14Speaker 4: nice and I feel like every year they get better
- 28:15Speaker 4: and better. Team Canada is such a good job, and uh, yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 4: it was.
- 28:19Speaker 3: It was.
- 28:20Speaker 4: It was fun. The playing the hot like when we
- 28:22Speaker 4: were playing hockey and practice was great. It was just
- 28:24Speaker 4: everything in between was just a lot of it's a
- 28:25Speaker 4: lot of noise. That was just a lot of annoyances.
- 28:29Speaker 1: All right, still the Cup here, I'm scripted our top
- 28:32Speaker 1: moments of twenty twenty four.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Don't go anywhere, all right, the best, it worst of
- 28:44Speaker 3: twenty twenty four. I came do this real quick.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Music shaboozi, I mean tipsy. It just dominated this year
- 28:49Speaker 1: music television shows. Hey, squid Game is back.
- 28:52Speaker 3: People are loving that. On Netflix and movies, We're gonna
- 28:54Speaker 3: get Taois thoughts.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And Complete Unknow, which people have loved, the new Bob
- 28:57Speaker 1: Dylan film, and Anora, which is one of the best
- 28:59Speaker 1: films of the year. We'll get Jadi's response in just
- 29:01Speaker 1: a second. But first, as far as hockey's concerned, I'll
- 29:03Speaker 1: give you some amazing Cup final. McDavid wins a conser
- 29:06Speaker 1: mice even though they lose, but Dar's coronation rookie year,
- 29:10Speaker 1: McKinnon wins the heart Utah joins the NHL draft the
- 29:13Speaker 1: sphere here's an underrated one. McDavid and kushiof both at
- 29:16Speaker 1: one hundred assists. Only three players in NHL history had
- 29:19Speaker 1: done it previously. I'll go the obvious. Jay, I just
- 29:22Speaker 1: think the Cup Final was awesome. I mean it was
- 29:23Speaker 1: three to Oho and I went to seven games. It
- 29:25Speaker 1: was a one goal game. You cannot top that. I
- 29:27Speaker 1: was thrilled for pal Maurice specifically, You're a highlight of
- 29:30Speaker 1: this NHL season.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Honestly, I got to be on the floor for the
- 29:34Speaker 4: draft and I just thought it was in the spare. Yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I thought it was. I thought it was incredible just
- 29:39Speaker 4: what they did and like extraordinary the setup they had,
- 29:45Speaker 4: and I was like, every draft should be here. I
- 29:48Speaker 4: just thought it was a really cool spectacle, you know.
- 29:50Speaker 4: I know that's kind of like, oh, you know, there's
- 29:52Speaker 4: so many other stories. I know, there's so many phenomenal stories,
- 29:54Speaker 4: but that one for me just kind of stood up
- 29:56Speaker 4: said I kind of poo pooed on the sphere and
- 30:00Speaker 4: I was like, oh my god. You know, people are
- 30:01Speaker 4: showing themselves at concerts and I was like, just go
- 30:04Speaker 4: outside if you're looking, you know, at footage of you know,
- 30:08Speaker 4: doing LSD and watching you two.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Or there's one thing I'm gonna be honest with the sphere.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Because I had a friend of mine, he knows, you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I'm clean living, I don't do drugs, and he was
- 30:16Speaker 1: like he goes.
- 30:16Speaker 3: It's cool. But because if you were high, to be
- 30:17Speaker 3: a lot better. I'm like, to what ex sent?
- 30:19Speaker 1: He goes anything because if you were, if you smoked weed,
- 30:21Speaker 1: if you did if you dropped acid, he goes.
- 30:23Speaker 3: It's just a different experience. It's just so I have
- 30:25Speaker 3: to do drugs to enjoy the sphere. You have to
- 30:27Speaker 3: do just thing. It's a lot better.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Everything anything in life, like space, it's great's even better
- 30:36Speaker 1: if you're on drugs.
- 30:37Speaker 4: So your buddies Diplo, did you see Diplo doing LSD
- 30:40Speaker 4: at the ball drop there with Anderson Cooper? But no,
- 30:44Speaker 4: but this sphere, I like the Sphere, So getting this
- 30:46Speaker 4: back on the alisphere. But tal what's yours?
- 30:48Speaker 3: Yeah, let's get talent a little more.
- 30:50Speaker 4: He's bloody.
- 30:51Speaker 5: I was at the draft at Sphere as well, and
- 30:55Speaker 5: I actually that was actually my second time at Sphere.
- 30:57Speaker 5: I also saw a fish there with one of my
- 30:59Speaker 5: oldest friends, right, buddy was high, very very different experience, obviously.
- 31:04Speaker 5: I think it's the spectacle there is. It's like impossible
- 31:09Speaker 5: to describe. It's I won't go as far as to
- 31:11Speaker 5: say it's better if you're high, but but no, that
- 31:15Speaker 5: was high.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Now tell.
- 31:18Speaker 5: I'm California sober, California sober.
- 31:20Speaker 4: You know how that goes.
- 31:22Speaker 3: But talent, I loved that.
- 31:23Speaker 5: And I think the fact that, I mean the final
- 31:26Speaker 5: was an all time final, the fact that there was
- 31:28Speaker 5: a camera crew for the Face Off series documenting the whole.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Thing with.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Yeah, the whole outdost in the locker room, like I
- 31:38Speaker 5: feel like media wise, that was a moment that the
- 31:41Speaker 5: NHL has been looking for for a long time.
- 31:44Speaker 3: As far as the.
- 31:46Speaker 5: Marquee player in the game having this outburst on the
- 31:50Speaker 5: biggest stage on Prime, right, it was on Prime, I mean,
- 31:54Speaker 5: it was. That whole thing just couldn't have worked out
- 31:56Speaker 5: better for the league in my opinion.
- 31:58Speaker 1: All Right, so we talked about our best top here
- 32:00Speaker 1: as far as hockey is concerned, pro Cup Final, pro sphere.
- 32:03Speaker 3: How about movie wise?
- 32:05Speaker 1: For me, Day of the Fight, which is a little
- 32:07Speaker 1: scene boxing way black and white, was my favorite film
- 32:09Speaker 1: of the year. Number two is a Nora, which critics
- 32:11Speaker 1: have been lavishing praise upon ever since the premiere at
- 32:14Speaker 1: the can Film Festival, where it won the Palm d'Or.
- 32:16Speaker 1: For those not in the know, that's the best picture.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Sean Baker's a filmmaker. He made Red Rocket, He's a
- 32:20Speaker 1: terrific director. Florida Project, Mikey Madison the favorite to win
- 32:23Speaker 1: Best Actress for many people, it's the favorite to win
- 32:26Speaker 1: Best Picture.
- 32:26Speaker 3: And I'm saying all of this.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Because I haven't heard one dissenting opinion until Jason Demur
- 32:31Speaker 1: started chirping.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Anora Jay, this is a movie which is highly unpredictable.
- 32:36Speaker 1: It's hysterically funny, surprisingly moving, and you're saying, no, it's
- 32:41Speaker 1: just about a stripper in love with a Russian Oligirk's son.
- 32:44Speaker 3: How dare you poo poo, Anora? What do you got?
- 32:48Speaker 4: I mean? An hour in the movie gets good and
- 32:51Speaker 4: actually there's there before that.
- 32:53Speaker 3: It's just the first twenty minutes are her cavorting in
- 32:56Speaker 3: a strip club.
- 32:56Speaker 4: It's sex scenes. It's just gratuitous sex scenes. For we
- 33:01Speaker 4: could have got there in five minutes. Yes, you're sleeping
- 33:04Speaker 4: with an oligarc over and over again until he falls
- 33:06Speaker 4: in love you. You could we could, really, we could
- 33:09Speaker 4: have chopped that down. You know, I got things to do.
- 33:12Speaker 4: And then an hour in then it gets fun when
- 33:14Speaker 4: they you know, when they what's the guys show up
- 33:16Speaker 4: media sign? Yeah, like the mob that then the movie
- 33:19Speaker 4: gets going. I'm like, Okay, good movies, so listen. I'm
- 33:22Speaker 4: saying it's a good movie. She's good at But I'm
- 33:25Speaker 4: also like, is this what we're doing? Like you know,
- 33:27Speaker 4: it's blur neuis on steroids, like it's pure sex scenes.
- 33:31Speaker 4: And I'm like, okay, well, this is what happens. Sidney
- 33:34Speaker 4: Sweeney sex scenes. Oh she's a start now, Mikey Madison
- 33:37Speaker 4: sex scenes. So we know the you know, there's a formula.
- 33:40Speaker 4: There's a formula and sex cells.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Listen.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I'm not gonna sit here and be an all man like,
- 33:44Speaker 4: oh sex listen, but don't call that an art form
- 33:51Speaker 4: if you're doing that every ten seconds and then you're
- 33:54Speaker 4: gonna go and and you're gonna go and shame porn stars.
- 33:57Speaker 4: And I'm like, you're doing the same thing. You're doing
- 33:59Speaker 4: the exact same thing, just you know, you might not
- 34:02Speaker 4: be going fully through with it. But this is blue
- 34:04Speaker 4: NEWI Blo Neui. When you were a kid in Montreal's
- 34:08Speaker 4: come on ro Out eleven thirty midnight listen, easy shadows,
- 34:13Speaker 4: And that's art. We're calling it art, you know, it's
- 34:17Speaker 4: it's just art. I just think I think it was
- 34:20Speaker 4: the movie. I liked the movie idea and you know,
- 34:22Speaker 4: very much a modern day pretty woman, correct, And I
- 34:27Speaker 4: like that, you know, once we get an hour in.
- 34:30Speaker 4: I thought the characters, their meetings were fantastic. I thought
- 34:33Speaker 4: she was great, Mikey Madison. I thought she was good
- 34:35Speaker 4: star making performance. I'm not being contrarian just to be
- 34:38Speaker 4: I'm giving it its flowers. Sure, I do think I
- 34:40Speaker 4: finished the movie and I was like, you know what,
- 34:43Speaker 4: an hour in fantastic. I think the kid's great. The
- 34:46Speaker 4: relationship between him and his parents I think was very deep,
- 34:49Speaker 4: very dark, and yeah, but I mean other than that,
- 34:52Speaker 4: I'm like, twenty minutes twenty minutes less would be perfect
- 34:57Speaker 4: for me.
- 34:57Speaker 3: All right, two ten, two fifteen movies.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So if it was under two hours, you would have
- 35:01Speaker 1: liked it a little bit more. I send the previous
- 35:03Speaker 1: episode a complete note. I thought Shalam was superb uncanny
- 35:07Speaker 1: Dylan impression, especially the fact he sang the songs of
- 35:09Speaker 1: Bob Dylan, which is an incredible achievement. But as a movie,
- 35:12Speaker 1: I didn't think it was as good as James Mangle's
- 35:13Speaker 1: previous musical Biopick walked the line, which I adored. What
- 35:16Speaker 1: came Phoenix Reece Witherspoon. But people are loving it. Maybe
- 35:18Speaker 1: it's a controlling take for me and say that. I
- 35:20Speaker 1: thought it was a fairly straightforward, melodramatic musical biopick.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Because Tal loved it, Tal, you're all in on a
- 35:26Speaker 3: complete unknown. I liked it a lot.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Love is a very strong word, but I will say,
- 35:31Speaker 5: you know, I think the degree of difficulty is a
- 35:34Speaker 5: lot greater with bio picks. I don't like bio picks
- 35:37Speaker 5: very much, especially when they are you know, they're portraying
- 35:41Speaker 5: someone who's one of the most famous people ever, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 5: like I thought Maestro last year with Bradley Cooper. I
- 35:48Speaker 5: liked the film, but it's about someone who is an
- 35:51Speaker 5: icon who we could see a documentary about. You can
- 35:54Speaker 5: read a book about Bob Dylan and probably learn way
- 35:56Speaker 5: more than seeing the film. But I thought Shallome was fantastic.
- 36:00Speaker 5: I didn't think he was so much doing a Dylan impression,
- 36:04Speaker 5: because we all have our bad Dylan impression that we do.
- 36:07Speaker 5: He was like channeling, channeling this this icon about.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Jumping with your bad Dalan impression.
- 36:14Speaker 5: Please come on, let did anyone want to offer their
- 36:16Speaker 5: bad Dylan impression?
- 36:18Speaker 4: I know I was. I was about to jump in
- 36:20Speaker 4: and say, I like loved Whitney Houston's biopic. I thought
- 36:23Speaker 4: it was great with all the songs and.
- 36:25Speaker 3: With the bodyguard or you're saying he actually know her?
- 36:28Speaker 4: Yeah, when he came out last year the documentary yeah
- 36:31Speaker 4: anyway continued made me think.
- 36:33Speaker 5: I just thought the whole thing, the most fascinating thing
- 36:36Speaker 5: for me was seeing this artist become a superstar and
- 36:40Speaker 5: how that messed him up a little bit, and how
- 36:43Speaker 5: that messed up his relationship with Joan Baz, which I'd readen.
- 36:47Speaker 5: I'd read about that relationship quite a bit and how
- 36:50Speaker 5: it was kind of traumatic for Joan Baz.
- 36:53Speaker 4: But I really liked the film.
- 36:54Speaker 5: I think Shala May is going to get some awards
- 36:57Speaker 5: out of it for sure. And it made me wonder afterwards.
- 37:00Speaker 5: I thought No Direction Home, which is a lyric from
- 37:03Speaker 5: the same film, would have been a great title, and
- 37:06Speaker 5: I wondered, why did they call it a complete unknown?
- 37:09Speaker 5: And then I found out when I got home that
- 37:11Speaker 5: there's actually a uh there's a documentary directed by Martin
- 37:16Speaker 5: Scorsese about Dylan called No Direction Home. So I then
- 37:20Speaker 5: watched that and did the full Dylan deep dive and
- 37:24Speaker 5: the documentary is great too.
- 37:26Speaker 3: So quick hits here for you.
- 37:27Speaker 1: In an interview with g Q, Jonathan Taves reveals he
- 37:29Speaker 1: hasn't give it up on his dream to return to
- 37:31Speaker 1: the NHL. Will he be back potentially helping an awful
- 37:34Speaker 1: Chicago team. It's amazing what happens sometimes, Jay, you're watching
- 37:37Speaker 1: the NHL. You see a guy who is a multi
- 37:39Speaker 1: Stanley Cup champion, a guy who's been an e leite player,
- 37:42Speaker 1: and then when it comes and it starts to hit,
- 37:44Speaker 1: the decline hits. And I think for people who didn't
- 37:46Speaker 1: realize that with Taves, like okay, he's up. The player
- 37:48Speaker 1: once was oh wait, now he can't even get a job.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Do you think Jonathan Taves will suit up again in
- 37:54Speaker 1: the NHL or.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Is that a dream at this point? Realistically?
- 37:57Speaker 4: No, I think he's still with the Blackhawks. Correct, he's
- 38:00Speaker 4: still signed with the Blackhawks.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Still saw the Blackhawks.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Yes, I listen. If he can get back to any semblance,
- 38:06Speaker 4: I mean, he could still be in this league. He's
- 38:09Speaker 4: very we talked about hockey IQ. He's very smart. He
- 38:12Speaker 4: could give you some good solid minutes. And you know,
- 38:15Speaker 4: I don't think you lose that side. You know, I
- 38:17Speaker 4: just think him he had some stuff, you know, some
- 38:19Speaker 4: long COVID stuff, and he was dealing with some I
- 38:24Speaker 4: think more on the illness side. So he went into
- 38:26Speaker 4: India and got this huge I think it's called how's
- 38:29Speaker 4: it pronounced. It's at your Veda where they do like
- 38:33Speaker 4: your Veda. Yeah, they're releasing all the toxins in his
- 38:37Speaker 4: body and everything. So and I texted him the other
- 38:39Speaker 4: day and I just said hey, because I went wakesurfing
- 38:42Speaker 4: with him randomly this past summer in Arizona and awesome
- 38:46Speaker 4: guy met him a couple of times, and uh yeah,
- 38:49Speaker 4: I just kind of text him. I'm like, man, if
- 38:51Speaker 4: you need guy to go skate with or push you
- 38:54Speaker 4: around on the corner, like, I'd love to see him
- 38:56Speaker 4: make the comeback. I think Chicago fans would. I mean
- 38:58Speaker 4: imagine him helping out Connor Badard and being in there
- 39:02Speaker 4: like just electric factory.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yeah, true point. He's thirty six years of age. He
- 39:06Speaker 1: was named Pap of the Blackhawks, are just twenty years
- 39:08Speaker 1: of age. He leads him to the three Stanley Cups
- 39:10Speaker 1: pair of Olympic gold medals. He's had an unbelievable run.
- 39:13Speaker 1: You mentioned the fact he had that undisclosed illness of
- 39:15Speaker 1: the time, quantic inflammatory response syndrome CRS, which was causing fatigue, inflammation,
- 39:22Speaker 1: et cetera. August twenty twenty three, he steps wakes along
- 39:25Speaker 1: COVID hasn't played since, but he goes to India. He
- 39:27Speaker 1: gets the herbal medicines, yoga, meditation, et cetera, also some enemas,
- 39:31Speaker 1: so hopefully.
- 39:32Speaker 3: It'll be good to go at some point. But that
- 39:34Speaker 3: was the list of things.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Clear the tush out, baby.
- 39:41Speaker 3: I just love that. That's how they slipped it.
- 39:42Speaker 1: You can imagine the writer going, Okay, what was the
- 39:45Speaker 1: list of yoga, meditation, herbal medicines, enemas?
- 39:48Speaker 3: Should we put edemas first at the end? Put it?
- 39:50Speaker 3: Put a comma. Put at the end of the list
- 39:52Speaker 3: of things you gotta.
- 39:53Speaker 4: Leave with enemas we don't know. It's like the longlisted
- 39:55Speaker 4: side effects. You're like, oh, what would they slip in there? Enemas?
- 39:58Speaker 4: But that is the real use of the word, the
- 40:02Speaker 4: proper use for tush push with an enema.
- 40:07Speaker 1: It's not jailing or herds in the Philadelphia Eagles trying
- 40:10Speaker 1: to get that fourth and one of toush pushers.
- 40:11Speaker 3: No, just a properly administered anema.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Yep.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I want to know this because I asked Scott or'neil
- 40:17Speaker 1: about this with the Winnipeg Jets. I said, are you
- 40:19Speaker 1: looking at the season in terms of three different quadrants?
- 40:22Speaker 3: Not quadrant? Three different sections? Pre Christmas? He a quick
- 40:24Speaker 3: little break.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Now we got six weeks and it's eleven days off
- 40:27Speaker 1: for the four Nations and then the stretch run.
- 40:30Speaker 3: So I'm curious for you right now.
- 40:31Speaker 1: I don't we're not quite second half work, fifty games
- 40:33Speaker 1: left of the season. What is it like right now
- 40:35Speaker 1: mood wise with different teams?
- 40:38Speaker 4: Well, listen, you don't want to you are you want
- 40:40Speaker 4: to be in a good striking distance if you're outside
- 40:42Speaker 4: the playoffs before four Nations, Like, you don't want to
- 40:45Speaker 4: go into four Nations and you're you're really chasing it
- 40:48Speaker 4: because it's gonna be tough to kind of if you
- 40:50Speaker 4: you need to get some momentum because there is gonna
- 40:53Speaker 4: be a reset and you don't know what's gonna happen
- 40:56Speaker 4: with four Nations, especially with injuries. You know, guys might
- 40:58Speaker 4: get hurt during that tournament because you never know what
- 41:00Speaker 4: happens when guys play for their countries. But I do
- 41:04Speaker 4: think think, you know, this is kind of a this
- 41:06Speaker 4: is an interesting push. It's it's different this year with
- 41:09Speaker 4: the four Nations because it's like you said, it's broken
- 41:12Speaker 4: up into sections and these breaks. Sometimes it's like it's
- 41:15Speaker 4: a good little deadline milestone for teams to be like, hey,
- 41:17Speaker 4: we have x amount of games that we need to win,
- 41:21Speaker 4: you know, seventy five percent to put us into a
- 41:24Speaker 4: good spot, and we're not at that point yet, but
- 41:27Speaker 4: we're kind of like ten games away where teams start
- 41:30Speaker 4: and guys start counting the standings, being like, hey, we
- 41:33Speaker 4: need ninety six to ninety eight points to get us
- 41:35Speaker 4: into a playoff spot. We're at forty points. You know,
- 41:39Speaker 4: we need another fifty five points. That did the math,
- 41:42Speaker 4: I got it right there. We need like another fifty
- 41:43Speaker 4: five to fifty six points. So it's like that's how
- 41:46Speaker 4: many wins. That equates to how many wins. Then you
- 41:48Speaker 4: start kind of counting and then time just slowly runs out,
- 41:51Speaker 4: So you know, I think the teams that are chasing it,
- 41:54Speaker 4: it's gonna be a lot tougher this year to make
- 41:56Speaker 4: up ground with all the stops.
- 41:58Speaker 1: At last point here, speaking of time running out, Will
- 42:00Speaker 1: Ferrell made an incredible appearance in a recent kingste Dresses
- 42:03Speaker 1: Buddy the Elf.
- 42:04Speaker 3: As far as best celebrity fans the NHL, John Hamm
- 42:07Speaker 3: is up there, Chris John Dennis Leary of course a
- 42:10Speaker 3: huge hockey guy.
- 42:11Speaker 1: You know, Justin Bieber's a huge Leaves family. There's lots
- 42:13Speaker 1: of great celebrity. Who is one of your favorites as
- 42:15Speaker 1: far as you think of a celebrity fan legit into
- 42:18Speaker 1: it all the time, Will Ferrell up there?
- 42:20Speaker 3: Who else you got?
- 42:22Speaker 4: I mean, Kevin James is one really big one. And
- 42:25Speaker 4: then I mean I my first year when I was
- 42:27Speaker 4: in the playoffs, John Cusack was sitting next to the glass,
- 42:31Speaker 4: close friend of Chris ll yes, and when we got eliminated,
- 42:35Speaker 4: you know, we got swept by them. The year they won,
- 42:37Speaker 4: and I was sitting outside on the on the curb
- 42:40Speaker 4: waiting for the bus to kind of take us to
- 42:42Speaker 4: the airport. And I was sitting in front of like
- 42:44Speaker 4: a vespa, and all of a sudden, I hear like,
- 42:49Speaker 4: I hear like a hey, excuse me. So I look
- 42:52Speaker 4: up and it's John Cusack and he's like, do you mind?
- 42:54Speaker 4: Like I'm just gonna take his vespa. So he jumps
- 42:57Speaker 4: on the vespa kind of backs it out, and then
- 42:59Speaker 4: he just looks over at me and he gives me
- 43:00Speaker 4: like the John hamm and He's just like see yeah
- 43:03Speaker 4: and beatles off, and I'm just like, son a bitch.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Say anything.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Eight minut out. Thanks for listening to HL Unscripted. We'll
- 43:13Speaker 1: give you the John ham John Cusack send off.
