- 1:01Welcome to Predictable with Stu.
- 1:04Here we go.
- 1:04Let's get right to it.
- 1:06It's a big day.
- 1:06You know,
- 1:07we're 41 days away from the midterm elections,
- 1:11right around the corner,
- 1:12and you might say,
- 1:13well,
- 1:13that seems still,
- 1:14it's like it's like 6 weeks,
- 1:16no big deal.
- 1:16Well,
- 1:17I will tell you lots of places are already early voting,
- 1:19and,
- 1:19uh,
- 1:20coming up on Thursday,
- 1:20Illinois,
- 1:21uh,
- 1:21starts that process along with uh Maine
- 1:23and a bunch of other states as we go into October.
- 1:26I want to talk to you about the panic button.
- 1:28Is it time to hit the panic button?
- 1:30Republicans are hitting the panic button.
- 1:32That's according to Punchbowl News today.
- 1:35Uh,
- 1:35they say that they are hitting the panic button
- 1:37before election day.
- 1:40Uh,
- 1:41gas prices are sky high,
- 1:42diesel's setting a new record almost daily,
- 1:44they say.
- 1:45Trump said at the United Nations that the Iran
- 1:48war won't end until after the midterm elections.
- 1:51Frightening prospect for the GOP,
- 1:53according to the Punch Bowl News report.
- 1:54They say they talk about some people taking new positions,
- 1:57trying to like get out ahead of this,
- 1:58try to,
- 1:58how do we,
- 1:59how do we push back.
- 2:00Ashley Hinson,
- 2:01senator,
- 2:01uh,
- 2:02Senate candidate in,
- 2:03uh,
- 2:03Iowa,
- 2:04is demanding the House return to session to enact a ban on diesel exports.
- 2:08There's other people saying,
- 2:09hey,
- 2:09we need to end this war right away.
- 2:11That's going on,
- 2:12and Republicans are trying to fix these problems the best that they can.
- 2:16With just an ungodly amount of money.
- 2:20Uh,
- 2:20and by the way,
- 2:21that is a,
- 2:21I'm not,
- 2:22that's not me being critical
- 2:24of the GOP.
- 2:24I think,
- 2:25uh,
- 2:25you know,
- 2:25if they do what they're saying they're doing here,
- 2:27I mean,
- 2:27I,
- 2:28we can't blame them for,
- 2:29for spending if they lose.
- 2:31Um,
- 2:31Texas PAC,
- 2:32the Senate Leadership Fund's Lone Star State,
- 2:34uh,
- 2:34Super PAC,
- 2:35adding more than $35 million
- 2:37to its already $65 million in TV reservations.
- 2:40That puts the GOP leadership endorsed group
- 2:43above $100 million in ads to boost Attorney General Ken Paxson over
- 2:47James Tallarico,
- 2:48the weird
- 2:49youth pastor that kicked that left your church in disgrace.
- 2:53Uh,
- 2:53every time I see him,
- 2:54that's what I think of.
- 2:55Um,
- 2:55all told,
- 2:56Republicans expect to spend,
- 2:57uh,
- 2:57expect to spend between $150 and $200 million in Texas
- 3:00to save Paxton.
- 3:02I've been critical of Republicans and,
- 3:04and what,
- 3:04and,
- 3:04you know,
- 3:05the way they're handling this.
- 3:06If they spend $200 million to try to save Ken Paxton and it doesn't work.
- 3:11It's not their problem.
- 3:12That's,
- 3:12that's all on Paxson if he can't win that election.
- 3:15That's a lot of resources,
- 3:16and these are resources that,
- 3:17of course,
- 3:17Republicans
- 3:18hoped not to spend
- 3:20in a place
- 3:21like Texas.
- 3:22So we will see
- 3:22how that goes.
- 3:23A new poll out from CNN today.
- 3:25Trump midterm woes deepen amid worsened economic backdrop.
- 3:29I want to show you a couple of the details of this because look,
- 3:31I can show you bad polls honestly for the Republicans every day,
- 3:33and,
- 3:34uh,
- 3:34you should know about them.
- 3:35We have a tool at predictableShow.com called the PMC.
- 3:39It's the predictable midterm
- 3:41consensus,
- 3:42and what it does is it takes all these polls from all the places,
- 3:45puts them all together in one place,
- 3:47it models,
- 3:47it takes all the election models you can think of,
- 3:50some that are prominent,
- 3:51some you've never heard of.
- 3:52We go through,
- 3:53uh,
- 3:53the fundamentals of the race,
- 3:55the expert opinions,
- 3:56the fundraising,
- 3:57all the details,
- 3:57go through everything.
- 3:59And we give you one place
- 4:00to land.
- 4:01It's called the PMC,
- 4:02the Predictable Market Consensus.
- 4:03You can get it at predictableshow.com.
- 4:05It's free for you when you're looking for the Senate and House control.
- 4:07If you want
- 4:08details to every single race,
- 4:09that's a part of the premium
- 4:10tier.
- 4:11The bottom line is,
- 4:12and it,
- 4:12by the way,
- 4:12it also helps you
- 4:13compare those numbers against
- 4:15the prediction market numbers.
- 4:17It's a great way
- 4:18to look for value.
- 4:19I did an update last night on this,
- 4:21and there's one state that's like 20 points different.
- 4:24Now one of these is gonna be wrong
- 4:25by a large margin.
- 4:27And we will get into who that is and,
- 4:29and why that is
- 4:30uh coming up.
- 4:31Um,
- 4:31I wanna also show you this,
- 4:33this is breaking it down by topic and,
- 4:35you know,
- 4:36they,
- 4:37these are disturbing polls.
- 4:39Gonna be honest with you,
- 4:40it's disturbing polls.
- 4:41Let me set the,
- 4:41the tone here really quick for you.
- 4:44What we're thinking about now is 2018.
- 4:472018 was a very bad year for Republicans in the midterms.
- 4:50It was,
- 4:51uh,
- 4:52borderline,
- 4:52not quite,
- 4:53but borderline catastrophic.
- 4:55There have been catastrophic years that have been worse than this
- 4:58for Republicans,
- 4:59but 2018 was pretty rough,
- 5:01pretty rough year.
- 5:02Let me show you comparisons between 2018 and 2026.
- 5:05This is in this poll,
- 5:05and you might say,
- 5:06well,
- 5:06it's a CNN poll,
- 5:07I don't believe it.
- 5:08First of all,
- 5:08I mean,
- 5:08it's,
- 5:09it's always good to be skeptical of any poll,
- 5:11uh,
- 5:11especially from a,
- 5:12from an organization you might not trust.
- 5:13Uh,
- 5:14but these,
- 5:14the one thing that that's interesting to understand here is these are both
- 5:18CNN polls.
- 5:19So these are just comparing apples to apples here.
- 5:22What's the difference between the view of the American people,
- 5:25according to CNN
- 5:27both times,
- 5:272018,
- 5:282026,
- 5:30Trump's job as president in his midterm here,
- 5:32he was -22
- 5:35in September 2018,
- 5:3758% disapproved,
- 5:3836% approved.
- 5:40This poll shows him at -24,
- 5:42so 2 points worse
- 5:43at 33% approval,
- 5:4567% disapproval.
- 5:47But it gets much,
- 5:48much worse and scarier than that.
- 5:51Trump's handling of the economy.
- 5:54In 2018,
- 5:55he was +5.
- 5:57Remember,
- 5:572018,
- 5:58the economy is going pretty well.
- 5:59People,
- 6:00you know,
- 6:00they might not like Donald Trump and all of his mean tweets,
- 6:02but
- 6:03the economy is doing really well.
- 6:04He's +5 in 2018.
- 6:07Now,
- 6:07he is minus.
- 6:1046.
- 6:12On the economy,
- 6:13-46.
- 6:19I don't think I need to tell you that that's a catastrophic number.
- 6:21By the way,
- 6:21that's one of the reasons why he was brought into
- 6:23office because he's supposed to be the economy guy.
- 6:26Everyone loves him for that.
- 6:27They are falling out of love,
- 6:29at least according to this poll.
- 6:31Rating of economic conditions in the country today,
- 6:34he was +41 in 2018.
- 6:38He's now -44.
- 6:41Now,
- 6:41that's not exactly a Trump-specific poll,
- 6:44it's just a rating of the economic conditions.
- 6:46But the bottom line is they do not see this
- 6:49positively.
- 6:50The American people look at this,
- 6:51and this is
- 6:52not just CNN,
- 6:53it's in pretty much every poll
- 6:55will show you that things are not so great when it comes to the economy.
- 6:59You also might know that by going to your gas pump,
- 7:01right?
- 7:02You might not need a CNN poll to tell you
- 7:04that things aren't going so swimmingly.
- 7:07It's very difficult to win elections in an environment like this.
- 7:10I mean,
- 7:10I go back,
- 7:10I've been doing this for 30 years now.
- 7:12And you go back through these elections,
- 7:14and I can remember entire elections being focused almost completely
- 7:18on what the price was at the pump.
- 7:19It's what all,
- 7:21whenever a Republican,
- 7:22George W.
- 7:22Bush had to deal with this multiple times,
- 7:23whenever a Republican ran,
- 7:25all they talked about on the news
- 7:27was gas prices,
- 7:28and then Obama got into office and it was like,
- 7:29gas prices,
- 7:30why would anyone care about such an insignificant thing?
- 7:33Well,
- 7:33the media is hitting him with that same
- 7:36treatment today.
- 7:37And
- 7:37look,
- 7:38it's,
- 7:38it's real for a lot of people.
- 7:40If you happen to be a truck driver,
- 7:41you really understand this.
- 7:43I mean,
- 7:43this is absolutely killing you with,
- 7:45with diesel prices.
- 7:46It's a real thing,
- 7:47it's really hitting people,
- 7:48and I will say this to you too,
- 7:50if you happen to be one of those people who's like,
- 7:51oh,
- 7:52you know,
- 7:52uh,
- 7:53gas prices,
- 7:53come on,
- 7:54it's not that big of a deal.
- 7:55First of all,
- 7:55it's a big deal to people who are dealing with that on a day to day basis,
- 7:58but it's also a big deal to you because when diesel prices are high,
- 8:02Everything you buy,
- 8:04uh,
- 8:04goes up in price
- 8:06because
- 8:06it's being trucked across the country
- 8:09with diesel,
- 8:09and,
- 8:09you know,
- 8:09it's just one part of the diesel
- 8:12experience.
- 8:12It's
- 8:13people really need this fuel.
- 8:15So,
- 8:16uh,
- 8:16I'll give you one other thing.
- 8:17This is a generic ballot.
- 8:18We've been talking a lot about it.
- 8:19I wanted to give you their number.
- 8:21This is maybe a slight bit of good news from this poll,
- 8:24uh,
- 8:24in September 2018,
- 8:25um,
- 8:26Republicans were -12 on the generic ballot.
- 8:29Here they're only -8.
- 8:30So -8 is still
- 8:32pretty bad.
- 8:33It's about 2018 levels,
- 8:35slightly better in 2018 levels compared to the CNN poll.
- 8:39Most polls show it around -8,
- 8:41um,
- 8:41uh,
- 8:42anyway,
- 8:43but that is a significant improvement.
- 8:45I mean,
- 8:46if you're holding that,
- 8:47uh,
- 8:47uh,
- 8:48if you can keep that gap smaller.
- 8:50Than it was in 2018.
- 8:51This is probably gonna be a rough year but not a catastrophic year.
- 8:552018 to me is the beginning
- 8:57of cat uh catastrophe.
- 8:59That's kind of how I think about it.
- 9:01Um,
- 9:01and
- 9:03I get a question over and over and over again.
- 9:05Cause I talk about this stuff all the time.
- 9:07Yesterday,
- 9:07we did a best case scenario for Republicans.
- 9:10Um,
- 9:10I don't know if it's coincidence that the,
- 9:12the episode did really,
- 9:13really well.
- 9:14I think people are looking for hope and I'd love to give you hope,
- 9:16but I also
- 9:17wanna make sure I'm telling you exactly what's
- 9:19going on to the best of my understanding.
- 9:21That's my job here.
- 9:22Um,
- 9:22I,
- 9:23I,
- 9:23I,
- 9:23I wanna give you good news when I can.
- 9:25Uh,
- 9:25I don't wanna hide good news from you,
- 9:27but I also wanna make sure you understand
- 9:28that right now things are not necessarily lining up
- 9:31well if you happen to be a conservative or a Republican.
- 9:35So let's take a quick look at the predictable
- 9:38post office.
- 9:46This question,
- 9:47question comes to you from a premium subscriber,
- 9:50Richard in Mesa.
- 9:51He says,
- 9:52my main question
- 9:53is pretty simple.
- 9:55When do I panic?
- 9:56I've got money on Paxton in Texas
- 9:59and on Republicans holding the Senate.
- 10:01When do I start worrying about those positions and
- 10:05when does worrying turn into some actually doing something?
- 10:09Should I stop adding?
- 10:11Should I cut back?
- 10:13Should I pick up some
- 10:14democratic position so I don't have everything riding on the same outcome?
- 10:18I don't want to overreact and sell things I'll regret selling,
- 10:20but
- 10:21I don't want to keep telling myself it'll be fine until it's too late.
- 10:25How do you tell the difference between being patient?
- 10:28And being stubborn
- 10:30Basically,
- 10:32should I already be panicking,
- 10:34says Richard
- 10:36in Mesa,
- 10:36Arizona.
- 10:37By the way,
- 10:37questions at predictableShow.com if you've got,
- 10:40uh,
- 10:40or you can go on the chat at predictableShow.com as well
- 10:42to,
- 10:43uh,
- 10:43to get,
- 10:44uh,
- 10:45your questions in.
- 10:46It's a great question.
- 10:48It's
- 10:49And I wanna make sure I,
- 10:50I,
- 10:50I say this clearly.
- 10:51It is how you should be thinking right now.
- 10:54You should not be thinking with rose
- 10:56colored glasses that everything's gonna turn out OK for any Republican
- 10:59position that I took or any position that you took.
- 11:00You should always be questioning yourself.
- 11:02That is one of the hardest things to do.
- 11:04If you look at the book Super Forecasting,
- 11:06it's in there,
- 11:06it's,
- 11:07it's in anybody who's written a book about forecasting or trying to predict things,
- 11:10will tell you the same stuff.
- 11:11You gotta be constantly
- 11:13questioning yourself
- 11:14all the time.
- 11:15You need to put yourself on the line
- 11:18all the time
- 11:18and push your own preconceived notions
- 11:22all the time.
- 11:22It's,
- 11:23and this is why this isn't for everybody,
- 11:24honestly,
- 11:25when it comes to prediction markets.
- 11:26It's difficult to do that.
- 11:27You know,
- 11:27it's a lot easier to kinda have an opinion and
- 11:29when you're wrong,
- 11:30you kinda forget it and move on to the next thing.
- 11:32You can't do that with prediction markets.
- 11:33They hold you responsible
- 11:35because you have money on the line.
- 11:37So,
- 11:37Richard's question
- 11:38is a great one.
- 11:40Should I panic?
- 11:41I'm gonna break this into two pieces.
- 11:42Number 1,
- 11:43if you're concerned about just the Republicans um outlook for the election.
- 11:49You should probably do what the Republicans are doing.
- 11:51Remember at the beginning,
- 11:52beginning of this,
- 11:53we talked about hitting the panic button.
- 11:55You probably should hit the panic button here.
- 11:57And what the panic button means when it comes to day to day politics
- 12:00is
- 12:02There's no more holding back.
- 12:04If you were concerned,
- 12:05you know,
- 12:05should I bother volunteering and making a few phone calls?
- 12:08Should I bother going knocking door to door?
- 12:10Should I bother convincing my friend about this or that?
- 12:14Whatever you think is the right thing for you to do in that situation,
- 12:18it's time to pull it out of the,
- 12:20the magic trick box because
- 12:22right now,
- 12:22this is a challenging situation
- 12:25for Republicans.
- 12:25Maybe we can talk to Steve Dace,
- 12:27uh,
- 12:27later on this week.
- 12:28He had a tweet that kind of went viral
- 12:30about how bad it is,
- 12:31even in,
- 12:31in a place like Iowa,
- 12:32a place that I have money.
- 12:33I have money on Ashley Hinson
- 12:35in Iowa.
- 12:36Um,
- 12:37am I concerned about the position?
- 12:39Yeah,
- 12:39a lot more concerned than I was a month or two ago.
- 12:41Uh,
- 12:42and that is something that's part of the process
- 12:44that I go through every one of these elections.
- 12:45When I take a position,
- 12:47I look at it and I say,
- 12:48do,
- 12:48am I still confident in it?
- 12:49With Ashley Hinson,
- 12:50I'm still optimistic about that position.
- 12:52Um,
- 12:52I'm,
- 12:53you know,
- 12:53I'm gonna look at that and I'm gonna take some,
- 12:55I'm gonna tell you some steps on how to deal with this.
- 12:57But when it comes to actually
- 12:58talking about the election
- 13:00with your friends,
- 13:01trying to move people,
- 13:02doing volunteering,
- 13:03donating,
- 13:04whatever you think is the right thing to do.
- 13:06Yeah,
- 13:07it's probably time to do it if you,
- 13:08uh,
- 13:08want your side to win because this is a key,
- 13:11a key moment.
- 13:12On the prediction market side,
- 13:15I'm not panicking.
- 13:17I have a,
- 13:18uh,
- 13:18a good amount of money on
- 13:21both Republican and Democratic candidates here.
- 13:24I have a portfolio that is pretty widespread over
- 13:28over 300 positions.
- 13:30If you go to predictableShow.com,
- 13:31you can see each one of them.
- 13:32Uh,
- 13:32over 300 positions in prediction markets,
- 13:34and I have those,
- 13:36uh,
- 13:37those,
- 13:37uh,
- 13:38positions laid out,
- 13:39um,
- 13:40for you to be able to look at.
- 13:42A lot of them are,
- 13:43there's,
- 13:44they kind of fall into a different bunch of different boxes.
- 13:46Some Democrats that I think are,
- 13:48I'm almost sure are going to win.
- 13:49Some Republicans I feel really,
- 13:50really confident and almost sure
- 13:52are going to win.
- 13:53And then as she's kind of stepped down off of that basis,
- 13:56you start seeing races where,
- 13:57like,
- 13:57um,
- 13:58you know,
- 13:58Ashley Hinson's a good example.
- 13:59I think she's favored.
- 14:00I think she's favored by more than where she is now in these markets.
- 14:03I feel confident that there's value in there,
- 14:05but that does not mean I'm 100% sure she's going to win.
- 14:08I'm looking for value in these candidates,
- 14:10so.
- 14:11And you have those on both sides as well.
- 14:15What I wanna make sure is that I'm,
- 14:17I'm,
- 14:17I'm balanced right,
- 14:18and I wanna make sure I don't panic
- 14:21until it's time to panic.
- 14:22And that question of when should I panic has been weighing
- 14:25on me here for the next last couple of weeks.
- 14:27When should I panic?
- 14:28When should I do that?
- 14:29And after extensive research,
- 14:32and back and forth,
- 14:33and arguing with myself and everybody on the team,
- 14:36when should we panic?
- 14:37We've come up with the day.
- 14:40We should panic
- 14:41on October 19th.
- 14:43Yes,
- 14:44October 19th,
- 14:45Monday,
- 14:45October 19th is officially.
- 14:48Predictable panic day.
- 14:52On October 19th,
- 14:54if things are not turning around a little bit,
- 14:56I'm going to start panicking.
- 14:59And panic
- 15:01Look,
- 15:02if someone is breaking into your house,
- 15:05panic probably a good thing.
- 15:07But you'd like to be prepared for that situation.
- 15:09There's a giant tornado coming at your house,
- 15:11panic might be great,
- 15:13be good if you're prepared.
- 15:15I kind of think of it that way.
- 15:17Like,
- 15:17uh,
- 15:17let me
- 15:18think of,
- 15:19think of what we are facing right now as sort of like a,
- 15:22a hurricane that's sitting off coast.
- 15:24And where I,
- 15:25what I have done with my prediction market portfolio in this election
- 15:28is to make sure I am very well positioned
- 15:31for the overwhelming majority of possibilities.
- 15:34I don't want to take a lot of risk here.
- 15:37I'm not trying to get 100 to 1
- 15:39outcomes,
- 15:41uh,
- 15:41and I'm not looking to,
- 15:42to necessarily
- 15:43take massive risks
- 15:46and huge long shots constantly.
- 15:48What I'm trying to do is grow my portfolio.
- 15:51People talk about prediction markets or gambling,
- 15:53not the way we do it here.
- 15:55The way we do it here is to slowly and methodically grow our portfolio,
- 15:59and that's why we talk about it in a sense of investing.
- 16:03These are things that I,
- 16:04I've spent a lot of time trying to understand and these things that I've,
- 16:07I've been able to be profitable on.
- 16:09Every single year I've been involved in,
- 16:10in prediction markets
- 16:12over
- 16:12longer over,
- 16:13over a decade.
- 16:14That doesn't sound,
- 16:15that's not how gambling works.
- 16:16I mean,
- 16:16I don't know,
- 16:17maybe for certain like high-level uh poker players,
- 16:19it works that way,
- 16:20but I gotta be honest with you.
- 16:21I'm not high level,
- 16:22uh,
- 16:22you know,
- 16:23I'm just a normal guy who really is interested in this stuff
- 16:26and really wants to understand it.
- 16:27So,
- 16:28that's why we've,
- 16:29we've been able to,
- 16:30to,
- 16:30uh,
- 16:31to put the website together and try to guide you through this process.
- 16:34But when you have a black swan type of event,
- 16:38You have to start preparing for that.
- 16:40When you have a situation where there's
- 16:41a hurricane offshore and they're telling you,
- 16:43hey,
- 16:44by the way,
- 16:44I know you live on the beach.
- 16:46A hurricane's forming offshore,
- 16:48does that mean you,
- 16:49you know,
- 16:50uh,
- 16:51run for the hills?
- 16:52Does that mean you take the car and you go,
- 16:54uh,
- 16:54uh,
- 16:54drive inland?
- 16:55It might be that point.
- 16:58But it's not necessarily that point right now.
- 17:00A lot of the positions that we've taken,
- 17:02I'm still
- 17:03completely confident,
- 17:04uh,
- 17:04in,
- 17:05and I feel confident about.
- 17:07One of the reasons why I took those positions
- 17:09was because there was a massive shield.
- 17:13I wasn't taking,
- 17:14uh,
- 17:14I mean,
- 17:14there's a few that I,
- 17:15I play with,
- 17:16but like,
- 17:16I'm not taking,
- 17:17I'm not the,
- 17:17the mass majority
- 17:19of my portfolio are not elections
- 17:22where,
- 17:22uh,
- 17:23I think it's 50 or 51-49 chance that we're gonna win.
- 17:26I'll,
- 17:26I'll dabble in those markets.
- 17:28But I don't put a ton of my money in those markets because I want to,
- 17:31uh,
- 17:32be at a place where I can be,
- 17:33uh,
- 17:34profitable overall,
- 17:35and I might miss one of those.
- 17:36I might miss more than one of those.
- 17:38So I prepare myself by taking things with massive cushions,
- 17:42right?
- 17:42Uh,
- 17:43if I think it's a 10 point victory for one candidate or the other,
- 17:46Uh,
- 17:47I'm comfortable maybe being there
- 17:49because even if,
- 17:50uh,
- 17:51I'm wrong on the election or there's a big,
- 17:53uh,
- 17:53movement towards the other candidate,
- 17:55I'm still winning by 2,
- 17:56right?
- 17:57And I'm fine with that.
- 17:58It's a nice big margin.
- 18:00I have a lot of those positions,
- 18:01some of those,
- 18:03I'm starting to get a little nervous about.
- 18:05And how do you prepare yourself and how do you shield yourself for what could be,
- 18:09could be a hurricane
- 18:11forming off of our shores?
- 18:13Do you
- 18:14board up your windows right now?
- 18:15I say no.
- 18:17Do you panic right now?
- 18:18I say no.
- 18:20Panic Day is October 19th.
- 18:22When we come back on that Monday,
- 18:24I will tell you whether I think it's time to panic or not.
- 18:26And we may be there or we may not be there,
- 18:28but between now and then,
- 18:30there are tons of,
- 18:31let's say,
- 18:32debates,
- 18:33massive events
- 18:34that could shape
- 18:35the elections.
- 18:36We're gonna look at those and see what happens.
- 18:38We're gonna watch the polls,
- 18:39we're gonna watch the data,
- 18:40we're gonna see
- 18:41if Republicans.
- 18:43Do what our kind of thesis statement,
- 18:45uh,
- 18:45has been,
- 18:46which is come home a little bit.
- 18:47Do Republicans come back to their own side?
- 18:49Do they continue,
- 18:51uh,
- 18:51to do what they've done for the past several election cycles?
- 18:54I mean,
- 18:542018 was bad.
- 18:56It was not as catastrophic as the things that I'm looking at preparing for right now.
- 19:00So let me give you some things that I am doing,
- 19:02uh,
- 19:03and thinking about
- 19:04here as we kind of extend the hurricane analogy a little bit.
- 19:08It's important that you know that,
- 19:09you know,
- 19:10buying sandbags
- 19:12is not,
- 19:13you know,
- 19:13OK,
- 19:14landfall is happening.
- 19:15OK,
- 19:15that's not what we're looking at right now,
- 19:17but we should look to prepare
- 19:19our portfolios so that we don't get stuck
- 19:22if there is a wave.
- 19:25So what I'm doing is I'm being a little pickier
- 19:28about Republican positions.
- 19:30When I have a position,
- 19:31um,
- 19:32if I'm still happy with it,
- 19:33I keep it,
- 19:34not selling off
- 19:35necessarily,
- 19:36um,
- 19:36I haven't sold off any of those yet.
- 19:38However,
- 19:39uh,
- 19:39I am holding those positions and not necessarily growing them,
- 19:42as I wanna see what develops until October 19th.
- 19:47I am looking
- 19:48more aggressively
- 19:49at Democratic opportunities.
- 19:51States that I looked at as toss-ups or maybe lean Democrat,
- 19:55I'm starting to like a little bit more.
- 19:56We'll go through a few of those here
- 19:58in a minute,
- 19:58but I mentioned Sherrod Brown recently
- 20:00on a candidate countdown.
- 20:02That's one of those where I think,
- 20:03uh,
- 20:04you know,
- 20:04I think there's reason to believe
- 20:06Republicans are,
- 20:07uh,
- 20:07the underdogs there,
- 20:09um,
- 20:09and maybe a little bit more than the markets
- 20:10are even admitting at this point or understanding.
- 20:13Um,
- 20:14I'm trying to diversify.
- 20:16I'm not trying to switch sides.
- 20:18It doesn't mean that you dump every
- 20:20Republican position and get every Democratic position.
- 20:22That would be the equivalent of,
- 20:24uh,
- 20:25you know,
- 20:25going to your windows with,
- 20:26with,
- 20:26uh,
- 20:27with plywood and making sure they're all covered.
- 20:29I'm not doing that.
- 20:31But what I am trying to make sure is that I
- 20:32have a position that can be covered on both sides.
- 20:34If this winds up happening
- 20:36and some of my other longer held positions get wiped out,
- 20:39I wanna make sure I'm getting profit on the other side
- 20:42to replace them.
- 20:43So we're working on that right now.
- 20:44I'm keeping cash available.
- 20:47Not every dollar that you have in prediction markets needs
- 20:49to be working for you at the same time.
- 20:50It's OK to have some cash just hanging out in your account.
- 20:53Uh,
- 20:54Calci,
- 20:54Polymarket,
- 20:55I think both pay
- 20:56over 3% interest,
- 20:57which is probably what you're getting in your bank account anyway.
- 20:59I should note,
- 20:59it's not FDIC insured,
- 21:01so that is,
- 21:01uh,
- 21:02important to understand.
- 21:03But generally speaking,
- 21:04I'm just getting paid like it's being held in my account,
- 21:06and if I hold it out of that account and,
- 21:07and I just have it ready to be,
- 21:09go into action whenever I need it,
- 21:10I'm fine with that
- 21:11for a while.
- 21:13I'm gonna keep looking
- 21:14and watching and monitoring,
- 21:16checking position sizes.
- 21:18Liking a position,
- 21:19liking a candidate,
- 21:20is different
- 21:22than
- 21:23saying I like this candidate at this size.
- 21:26If the biggest thing that you own is a race that's gone negative by a bunch of percent,
- 21:32and it's going the wrong direction,
- 21:34it might be worth trimming some of that position.
- 21:36That might not necessarily mean you've lost faith in that candidate,
- 21:39and it might mean you take many losses here and there
- 21:42to accomplish that goal,
- 21:43but you wanna minimize your exposure
- 21:45when
- 21:46needed.
- 21:47Um,
- 21:47uh,
- 21:47you know,
- 21:47I haven't done that yet,
- 21:48as I said,
- 21:49I,
- 21:49that is something that I will look at doing here in the coming weeks
- 21:53if this continues to go this way.
- 21:54And October 19th will be one of those times I'll be looking at that closely,
- 21:57cause October 19th
- 21:59is predictable panic day.
- 22:02Uh
- 22:04Make sure,
- 22:04one of the things that,
- 22:05and this happens all the time,
- 22:06these markets are correlated,
- 22:08OK?
- 22:09If
- 22:10one Democratic state winds up being better and,
- 22:12you know,
- 22:12Democrats outperform themselves there,
- 22:14usually what that means is they outperform themselves in other places as well.
- 22:17Same thing with Republicans.
- 22:18If Republicans wind up doing well,
- 22:20uh,
- 22:20you might wind up having a correlated move.
- 22:23This is the type of thing that,
- 22:24uh,
- 22:25Kamala Harris supporters got caught up in.
- 22:26We're like,
- 22:27well,
- 22:27there's 7 swing states,
- 22:28we're not gonna lose all 7.
- 22:29Well,
- 22:29if you're gonna lose one,
- 22:31the chances are you probably are gonna lose 56 or 7 of them,
- 22:34right?
- 22:34Because,
- 22:35uh,
- 22:35you know,
- 22:36the,
- 22:36these states move together,
- 22:37the environment is what it is.
- 22:39Usually there's not an even split 4 to 3.
- 22:42Um,
- 22:42so when you're looking at your,
- 22:43at your markets,
- 22:44look at it and say,
- 22:45well,
- 22:45wait a minute,
- 22:46if,
- 22:46if this moves one way,
- 22:47am I gonna get wiped out on everything
- 22:49that I have?
- 22:51I look at that all the time.
- 22:52Uh,
- 22:52I'll run that through,
- 22:53you know,
- 22:53spreadsheets and stuff.
- 22:54Maybe we'll create a tool that will help you do this.
- 22:56I,
- 22:56I,
- 22:56I,
- 22:56I've had one,
- 22:57I've been playing with one recently.
- 22:58That I,
- 22:59you know,
- 22:59kind of made up on my own for my own stuff.
- 23:01And I look at it and I say,
- 23:02well,
- 23:02you know,
- 23:03if this is a catastrophic outcome and everything above 70% for Republicans loses,
- 23:07what does my portfolio look like?
- 23:09And,
- 23:10uh,
- 23:10you know,
- 23:11if,
- 23:11if that looks really scary to you,
- 23:12I've,
- 23:12I've tried to hedge a lot of that risk,
- 23:14but if that looks really scary to you,
- 23:15you might want to look at that.
- 23:16Um,
- 23:16there's a bunch,
- 23:17there's a few other ones here,
- 23:18but I think that's enough.
- 23:18I've,
- 23:18I've hit you with enough stuff.
- 23:19Let me hit you,
- 23:20uh,
- 23:20with a couple more things before we,
- 23:21uh,
- 23:22take a break.
- 23:23Uh,
- 23:23bring up the,
- 23:23uh,
- 23:24the midterms hub here,
- 23:25uh,
- 23:25the Calci midterms hub if you can.
- 23:27This is what the Calci midterms hub looks for.
- 23:29This is all the prediction market prices for all the states
- 23:31on a handy dandy map.
- 23:32They've done a nice job laying that out.
- 23:34Uh,
- 23:35thank you to our friends at Calci.
- 23:37Um,
- 23:37the Calci midterms hub,
- 23:38let me see the map here,
- 23:39uh,
- 23:39if we could,
- 23:3964% chance for Democrats to win the Senate.
- 23:41But if you look at these states,
- 23:43when I'm saying look for Democratic opportunities,
- 23:45um,
- 23:45you'll see a lot of them,
- 23:46there are none,
- 23:47right?
- 23:47New Mexico,
- 23:48Colorado,
- 23:49uh,
- 23:49Oregon,
- 23:50uh,
- 23:50you know,
- 23:51certainly if you look over at,
- 23:52you know,
- 23:53uh,
- 23:53Massachusetts,
- 23:54Rhode Island,
- 23:54these are 97 to 98%.
- 23:56There's almost no gain to be had there,
- 23:58very little upside.
- 24:00But you can find a few,
- 24:01a few other ones.
- 24:02Let's look at,
- 24:03give me Michigan here for a second,
- 24:04Adam,
- 24:05if you have it.
- 24:05Michigan
- 24:06has uh
- 24:07El Sayed at 73%,
- 24:09Mike Rogers at 27%.
- 24:10In my head,
- 24:11that race is kind of a toss-up.
- 24:13I think if I had to,
- 24:15gun to my head,
- 24:16pick
- 24:16a particular candidate there,
- 24:18I'd probably lean Democrat given this,
- 24:20um,
- 24:21this climate that we're in.
- 24:23But again,
- 24:2427 cents of profit on a 73% investment.
- 24:27You're about a third,
- 24:29a third profit there.
- 24:30It's a nice number.
- 24:31There's still plenty of room for that to run.
- 24:32If you're looking to protect against the Democratic wave,
- 24:35it's a state
- 24:36worth considering.
- 24:37Let's look at Ohio.
- 24:39Ohio is the same thing.
- 24:40I've mentioned this earlier.
- 24:41Sherrod Brown's at 60%.
- 24:42It's up from
- 24:4352%,
- 24:4453%,
- 24:4454% where I was buying it initially.
- 24:46Uh,
- 24:47it is rising.
- 24:47Everything's rising for the Democrats right now.
- 24:49Um,
- 24:50you know,
- 24:50so it might be,
- 24:51and we may see a peak here and it might turn around.
- 24:52That's why we're waiting till October 19th to panic on these races.
- 24:55But Sherrod Brown is one that I think,
- 24:56I actually think
- 24:57probably will win,
- 24:59um,
- 24:59and he is a 60/40 favorite.
- 25:01Tons of room to run there.
- 25:02I mean,
- 25:02that's
- 25:02a 67% profit
- 25:04here in the next six weeks if you believe in that one.
- 25:07Another one I'll give you,
- 25:08again,
- 25:08Democratic opportunity just in the Senate,
- 25:10that's all we're looking at is New Hampshire.
- 25:12New Hampshire,
- 25:13some of the polling is close
- 25:14here.
- 25:15And John Sununu is a well-known guy in the state.
- 25:17Uh,
- 25:17this is why you're getting value,
- 25:19like 84%
- 25:20in a state that leans probably to the blue side anyway.
- 25:24Uh,
- 25:24it's purplish,
- 25:25but it leans to the blue side
- 25:27and in a very blue environment,
- 25:28if you're looking for something that would offset.
- 25:30Now,
- 25:31look,
- 25:31if this comes back and Sununu wins,
- 25:33your other Republican positions are very likely to do
- 25:36much better than you're hoping right now anyway.
- 25:39So,
- 25:39it doesn't mean you,
- 25:40you dump all your money into Chris Pappas,
- 25:42but it is something to consider.
- 25:44Uh,
- 25:45look,
- 25:45this is a weird time.
- 25:47If you're looking at just election outcomes,
- 25:49the time is,
- 25:50it is the,
- 25:51the message is be active,
- 25:53do what you,
- 25:54you know,
- 25:54certainly vote,
- 25:55but go out there and do the things that you think can move the needle any way you can
- 25:59because your side,
- 25:59if you,
- 26:00if you,
- 26:00if you care about your side winning,
- 26:01it is vitally important.
- 26:02This isn't.
- 26:04I guess what I'm saying is
- 26:06there's a lot of mainstream media
- 26:07hype.
- 26:09And,
- 26:09uh,
- 26:10a lot of times it's not real.
- 26:12This is a real threat if you are a conservative or a Republican
- 26:15to lose
- 26:16really the rest of the Trump presidency here because once,
- 26:20you know,
- 26:20once these guys go down,
- 26:21uh,
- 26:21you know,
- 26:22if you,
- 26:22if you lose even the House,
- 26:23it's gonna be tough to pass anything.
- 26:24You lose the Senate,
- 26:25you're talking about
- 26:26Supreme Court justices and so many other things
- 26:28that we've talked about a million times,
- 26:29so that's that.
- 26:30Secondarily,
- 26:30if you're in prediction markets,
- 26:32think about that,
- 26:33that,
- 26:33that investment advice you've heard a million times about,
- 26:36about diversifying and understanding other opportunities.
- 26:39It is important.
- 26:40Take,
- 26:41look back at those steps that we just went through.
- 26:43Take a moment,
- 26:44look at your portfolio,
- 26:45don't freak out.
- 26:46You got plenty of,
- 26:46you got till October 9th before predictable panic day.
- 26:49Don't freak out.
- 26:49Just look at those things,
- 26:51look for those opportunities,
- 26:52and take a time to maybe rebalance or at least understand what your balance is,
- 26:56cause a lot of times you get stuff in there and you don't even realize.
- 26:59Take that time now.
- 27:00Things are gonna change,
- 27:01things will move,
- 27:02but you still have time
- 27:03before it is time
- 27:05to hit
- 27:05the panic button.
- 27:26We are 41 days away from the election and we do a different candidate
- 27:31in a different race every day that we like that we think is a uh
- 27:35worth your consideration for potential prediction market investment,
- 27:39uh,
- 27:39and
- 27:40kind of building on the theme today.
- 27:41I,
- 27:41I mentioned look for um some Democrats that you think might have
- 27:46uh a little bit of uh uh
- 27:48of upside
- 27:49to begin taking a position on to to to measure it as we go.
- 27:53Um,
- 27:54and that's one of the ways that I'm kind of
- 27:55trying to prepare myself for what might happen here in,
- 27:58in a few weeks.
- 27:59Uh,
- 27:59so our candidate today,
- 28:0041 days until the election,
- 28:04and,
- 28:04uh,
- 28:04our candidate today comes from the.
- 28:08From the north,
- 28:09yes,
- 28:09it is Mary Peltola.
- 28:11She is a Democrat from Alaska
- 28:14running for Senate against Dan Sullivan,
- 28:16the Republican
- 28:17there.
- 28:18Now the candidate countdown does not mean that I
- 28:20like the candidate or want the candidate to win.
- 28:22That is not what we do here.
- 28:24Um,
- 28:24I will tell you
- 28:26what my preference is,
- 28:27and I will say my preference is certainly would be Republican control of the Senate.
- 28:31Mary Peltola though is a pretty good candidate in Alaska.
- 28:34And uh this is a real danger.
- 28:36You might say Alaska.
- 28:37Come on,
- 28:38that's crazy.
- 28:39Republicans always win in Alaska,
- 28:41right?
- 28:42Well,
- 28:43recently I've done well,
- 28:44particularly in presidential,
- 28:45uh,
- 28:45elections.
- 28:46Uh,
- 28:46we're gonna get into the details here in a minute,
- 28:47but I wanna show you the polling as of late,
- 28:49and you might look at this and say,
- 28:50OK,
- 28:50well,
- 28:50there's some good polling here for
- 28:52Sullivan,
- 28:52and that's true.
- 28:53This is not a,
- 28:54uh,
- 28:54a definite,
- 28:54I would say,
- 28:56um,
- 28:56as far as,
- 28:57uh,
- 28:57I mean,
- 28:57Dan Sullivan has a shot to win this race.
- 29:00There's a lot of asterisks by it.
- 29:01I'm gonna go through this in a minute.
- 29:02Here's the polling.
- 29:03Um,
- 29:03most recent poll from coefficient does have Sullivan up by 2.
- 29:07you,
- 29:07you see 3 polls in a row,
- 29:09the Times broke them out that way,
- 29:10but it's the same poll,
- 29:11uh,
- 29:11coefficient,
- 29:12uh,
- 29:1223,
- 29:13and 5,
- 29:13depending on how they break it,
- 29:15uh,
- 29:15out.
- 29:15Alaska Survey Research had Peltola up by 5.
- 29:18Fabrizio,
- 29:19uh,
- 29:20had,
- 29:20uh,
- 29:20Peltola up by 7.
- 29:22And then,
- 29:23uh,
- 29:23Alaska survey research previous poll
- 29:26before that going back to,
- 29:27uh,
- 29:27late August
- 29:28had Peltola up by 1.
- 29:30The final round thing is key to this discussion here
- 29:32and we're gonna get to that here in a second,
- 29:33but
- 29:35If you don't know who Mary Paltola is,
- 29:37she is,
- 29:37um,
- 29:38a known figure in the state and has already won statewide
- 29:42in Alaska.
- 29:43Not always easy to do,
- 29:44and that's because of their house seat,
- 29:45their at-large
- 29:46House seat.
- 29:47They've got one,
- 29:47so it's the whole state,
- 29:49uh,
- 29:49and she won,
- 29:50she won,
- 29:50uh,
- 29:50both,
- 29:50uh,
- 29:50uh,
- 29:51uh,
- 29:51uh,
- 29:51elections in 2022.
- 29:53She won the regular election,
- 29:54so she won a special election,
- 29:56and then she won the regular election.
- 29:57In the regular election in 2022,
- 30:00she won with 54.9%
- 30:02of the vote.
- 30:03Uh,
- 30:04she has consistently in all of her races,
- 30:06even the one she lost in 2024.
- 30:09Has outperformed uh the Democratic Party by a wide margin.
- 30:13This is the type of candidate
- 30:15that Democrats love in these elections
- 30:17because they're not,
- 30:18it's not a run of the mill,
- 30:20hey,
- 30:20you're running just like whatever the
- 30:22whatever the climate is.
- 30:23She's outperformed the climate every single time.
- 30:26That she has run
- 30:27now in 2024,
- 30:27the climate was very Republican,
- 30:29or at least pretty Republican,
- 30:30and it wasn't enough for her to hold on,
- 30:32but
- 30:32she in 2024,
- 30:34uh,
- 30:34Trump won by 13 points.
- 30:36Peltola only lost by 2.6,
- 30:40so
- 30:40outperforming the Democratic Party
- 30:43in a state that's not necessarily wonderful for Democrats.
- 30:46Um,
- 30:46the,
- 30:47the breakdown of Alaska as far as its voters go is really interesting.
- 30:51It is,
- 30:51uh,
- 30:52it's unlike a,
- 30:54of course,
- 30:54right.
- 30:56You know,
- 30:56Alaska's different than the other states.
- 30:57Yeah,
- 30:58I know,
- 30:58Stu.
- 30:59I got it.
- 30:59I mean,
- 30:59Alaska,
- 31:00it's,
- 31:00uh,
- 31:00a really big one.
- 31:01It's the biggest one we got.
- 31:02It's in,
- 31:03it's kind of,
- 31:03actually kind of seems like it's connected to Canada.
- 31:06It's in the middle of nowhere.
- 31:07It's really cold.
- 31:08There's not roads to most of the places.
- 31:10That's Alaska.
- 31:10You know that part.
- 31:12But the political breakdown is interesting.
- 31:14Where most states you have,
- 31:16I don't know,
- 31:17roughly a third maybe of each between Republicans,
- 31:20Democrats,
- 31:20and Independents,
- 31:21it's not really like that
- 31:23in Alaska.
- 31:24Only about 24% of registered voters have registered
- 31:27between Republicans
- 31:28or Democrats.
- 31:29That breaks down in favor,
- 31:31uh,
- 31:31uh,
- 31:32uh,
- 31:33excuse me,
- 31:33it's 36% total,
- 31:3424% Republicans,
- 31:3512%.
- 31:36Democrats,
- 31:36so
- 31:37it is a big advantage for Republicans,
- 31:39but as you know,
- 31:40there's a lot of people I'm not talking about there.
- 31:42Over 60% of people are either unaffiliated
- 31:46or independent
- 31:47in the state.
- 31:48So you have a massively independent electorate
- 31:50that does tend to lean to the right,
- 31:53but not overwhelmingly.
- 31:54These are other,
- 31:55there are other states where there's a much better case for just general
- 31:58red winning no matter what's going on.
- 32:00Um,
- 32:01Dan Sullivan
- 32:02is a senator currently.
- 32:03His approval rating.
- 32:05Isn't great.
- 32:06It's about 38%.
- 32:08Now,
- 32:08that's a little bit better than some of the polling
- 32:10we told you about earlier on in the show,
- 32:12but 38% isn't great.
- 32:14He's in the bottom,
- 32:16I'd say quintile,
- 32:17bottom fifth
- 32:18of,
- 32:18uh,
- 32:19senators as far as approval rating goes,
- 32:21not toward the top.
- 32:22Um,
- 32:22he's down there toward the bottom,
- 32:24not at the bottom.
- 32:25He's not the worst approval ratings in America,
- 32:27but he's toward the bottom,
- 32:29bottom third,
- 32:29bottom fourth,
- 32:30bottom fifth,
- 32:30somewhere in there.
- 32:32Um,
- 32:32so that's not great.
- 32:3347% disapprove,
- 32:34so he's a -9
- 32:36on that one.
- 32:38he is,
- 32:39uh,
- 32:39you know,
- 32:40again,
- 32:40that doesn't mean that he can't win in Alaska,
- 32:43but he doesn't have like a super clear path.
- 32:45Like it's not like easy for Dan Sullivan,
- 32:47uh,
- 32:47to win.
- 32:48Uh,
- 32:48the polling has been very close,
- 32:49as we talked about.
- 32:50Peltola is a,
- 32:52a good crossover candidate there.
- 32:54She won in 2022,
- 32:55she won in 2024,
- 32:57and she's raising,
- 32:57raising a lot of money.
- 32:58She's raised more overall than Sullivan.
- 33:01Um,
- 33:01Sullivan has been a little bit more frugal with his spending so far,
- 33:04so he has a little bit more cash on hand,
- 33:06but this isn't one of those races where you're gonna see,
- 33:08oh gosh,
- 33:08it's a Republican state,
- 33:09the Republican candidate gonna outspend the,
- 33:11uh,
- 33:12Democrat by 10 to 1.
- 33:13That's not happening here.
- 33:14She'll probably wind up spending more than he does,
- 33:16um.
- 33:18If you wanna make the case for Sullivan,
- 33:20let's make a case against our position as
- 33:21we'd like to do here on Candidate Countdown.
- 33:24Alaska is still a red state,
- 33:25fundamentally leans to the right.
- 33:27Uh,
- 33:27Sullivan has already won statewide twice.
- 33:29Although I will say in 2014,
- 33:31which was a good year
- 33:32for Republicans,
- 33:34he barely won,
- 33:35uh,
- 33:35by about 2 points.
- 33:362020 won easily by about 13.
- 33:39Republicans do have that,
- 33:40uh,
- 33:41registration advantage.
- 33:42It's about 70,000 votes.
- 33:44So 70,000 votes is,
- 33:45is a,
- 33:46is a note.
- 33:46It's a,
- 33:47it's,
- 33:47it's serious,
- 33:48but it's not necessarily,
- 33:49um,
- 33:50a massive number that you might see in another state
- 33:53with that type of margin of kind of 2 to 1.
- 33:56Um,
- 33:56recent polling has Sullivan ahead,
- 33:58as I mentioned,
- 33:58some of it does.
- 34:00Sullivan,
- 34:00uh,
- 34:00is financially strong,
- 34:02older voters do well,
- 34:04uh,
- 34:04with Sullivan.
- 34:05Uh,
- 34:05voters over 50 do lean toward Sullivan,
- 34:08so that's a positive.
- 34:10Um,
- 34:10and,
- 34:10uh,
- 34:11you know,
- 34:11Peltola
- 34:12did lose in 2024.
- 34:13She can lose in the state,
- 34:15although it was a much more Republican year.
- 34:16One other nugget I want to give you here on this race,
- 34:18or two more.
- 34:19One is the system.
- 34:21The system is a ranked choice voting system.
- 34:24It's a very weird system.
- 34:26If you're not from Alaska,
- 34:27you probably don't understand it or know about it.
- 34:29But basically what they did in the primary was pick
- 34:31not the best Republican and Democrat to run against each other,
- 34:34but the top 4 candidates of any party.
- 34:37And they have the top 4 candidates,
- 34:38so 4 candidates will be on the ballot,
- 34:40and they will do it in a ranked choice voting style.
- 34:43What that means is you can say,
- 34:45well,
- 34:45I think,
- 34:45uh,
- 34:45number 1,
- 34:46Dan Sullivan,
- 34:46#2,
- 34:47Mary Peltola,
- 34:483,
- 34:48and go through the list.
- 34:49You rank them like that.
- 34:51When the last place candidate that has no chance of winning.
- 34:53Uh,
- 34:54is officially eliminated and has no chance to get to 50%.
- 34:57They are
- 34:58eliminated.
- 34:59They get all their votes get redistributed.
- 35:01So if you,
- 35:02if you had,
- 35:03um,
- 35:03you know,
- 35:04the 4th place candidate as your top choice,
- 35:06your vote now goes to your second choice on the ballot.
- 35:10And so on and so on and so on.
- 35:12Two things about this.
- 35:13Number 1,
- 35:14there's another guy on the ballot
- 35:16named Dan Sullivan.
- 35:17There's two Dan Sullivans on the ballot.
- 35:18This was done intentionally,
- 35:20quite clearly to hurt the main Dan Sullivan.
- 35:22I don't know how much effect that will have.
- 35:24I mean,
- 35:25my
- 35:26It's possible it has an effect.
- 35:28It's really being talked about a lot in Alaska though,
- 35:30so my guess is most voters are not gonna fall
- 35:33for this trick,
- 35:34but it is a trick and it might pick off 1% of voters,
- 35:37and if it does that,
- 35:37it could be a big deal in a close race.
- 35:40Uh,
- 35:40secondarily,
- 35:41I think this format overall,
- 35:43because there are multiple Republicans on the ballot is
- 35:45gonna wind up benefiting at some level Peltola.
- 35:48Um,
- 35:48this is generally speaking,
- 35:50you know,
- 35:50I,
- 35:50I,
- 35:50I hear Republicans all the time saying we shouldn't have the
- 35:52system because it always benefits Democrats and like I get it.
- 35:55I get why you might not like this system and why you might not want this system,
- 35:58but like,
- 35:59I think part of this is also just blaming the system
- 36:01for the faults of the candidates.
- 36:03We all know what the rules of the game are here.
- 36:05You've got a ranked choice voting system.
- 36:07If you're a Republican candidate,
- 36:08you gotta figure out how to win in that environment.
- 36:11That's it.
- 36:13Play the game based on the rules of the game.
- 36:15Don't complain about the game the entire time.
- 36:18You gotta play the rules based on the rules of the game.
- 36:20So that's another thing.
- 36:21And the other thing I'm gonna bring up here
- 36:22is,
- 36:23uh,
- 36:23is
- 36:25the gas prices.
- 36:25We talked about how damaging that is.
- 36:28Diesel is setting a new,
- 36:29uh,
- 36:29um,
- 36:30uh,
- 36:31new high every single day,
- 36:32basically,
- 36:33and we are in a real peak here.
- 36:35That doesn't mean it lasts all the way to the election,
- 36:36but right now it's a real thing.
- 36:38The other thing about this is,
- 36:40there is no state in our union that is more dependent on diesel fuel
- 36:44than Alaska.
- 36:46Let me show you this map,
- 36:46this is from Nate Silver,
- 36:48he points this,
- 36:48I don't think he made this point on Alaska here,
- 36:50but Alaska is the highest,
- 36:5270%.
- 36:54Dependence
- 36:55on diesel as opposed to just regular
- 36:57gasoline.
- 36:58Now,
- 36:58of course,
- 36:58that makes sense,
- 36:59a lot of long hauls in Alaska,
- 37:01but that is a massive,
- 37:02massive deal,
- 37:03and they're facing the,
- 37:05they already deal with really high prices in Alaska.
- 37:07They're dealing with even more of that right now.
- 37:09Scottylicious,
- 37:10he's been on the show,
- 37:10he's made multiple millions of dollars in prediction markets.
- 37:13He's on this race
- 37:14as well.
- 37:14It's another indicator that it might be a good one.
- 37:16Uh,
- 37:16he says,
- 37:17here's why
- 37:17Team Scott Elicious bought a boatload of Peltola,
- 37:20uh,
- 37:20for Alaska Senate yesterday.
- 37:22One candidate quality,
- 37:23she's smart,
- 37:23proven,
- 37:24and well-liked.
- 37:25I mean,
- 37:25look,
- 37:26that,
- 37:26that shows in the way she's outperformed these polls.
- 37:29Uh,
- 37:30and she's outperformed the Democratic Party multiple times.
- 37:322,
- 37:32Trump and ours are about as popular as toe fungus.
- 37:35Uh,
- 37:35some people,
- 37:36I will say the media doesn't like even
- 37:38actually would prefer toe fungus to Trump,
- 37:40but,
- 37:40uh,
- 37:40you see his point here,
- 37:41approval ratings not looking so good.
- 37:43Uh,
- 37:43romped in the debate.
- 37:45Actually see the debate,
- 37:45uh,
- 37:46so I'll have to take his word for that.
- 37:47Independents love her.
- 37:48That's very true in Alaska,
- 37:50and blue wave price discovery is incoming,
- 37:52and you're kind of seeing that in the market.
- 37:54You can see the blue wave price discovery incoming in this market.
- 37:56Let me show it to you real quick before we
- 37:57take a break because we got another segment to do.
- 37:59But you see,
- 38:00this market is climbing.
- 38:02Uh,
- 38:02we are seeing this,
- 38:03uh,
- 38:03go up.
- 38:04Mary,
- 38:04Mary Peltola is at 78%.
- 38:07I don't know what I think the right percentage is.
- 38:09I think there's a good chance she wins,
- 38:10and,
- 38:10and gun to my head,
- 38:11I think she's the favorite.
- 38:13I have that race as a lean Democrat race if you saw my segment a couple of weeks ago.
- 38:17I don't know that she's,
- 38:19I,
- 38:19I,
- 38:19I don't know.
- 38:20I don't know that she's a 90% favorite though,
- 38:22so.
- 38:23A lot of these gains have kind of come up here,
- 38:25but if you're looking for something to offset
- 38:28what could be that Democratic wave if you're not positioned well,
- 38:30Peltola might be really interesting because I think she might win even if,
- 38:33if,
- 38:33if these polls turn back a little bit
- 38:35toward Republican candidates.
- 38:37Gotta take a break.
- 38:38It's a little bit long there,
- 38:38but we've got an interesting one coming up for you
- 38:40next.
- 38:56Let's look at a market that I kinda like.
- 38:57That's
- 38:58mainly because we're doing a segment called,
- 39:00here,
- 39:00here's one I kinda like,
- 39:01which so it makes sense to fit one in there.
- 39:04Uh,
- 39:04I wanna go,
- 39:04um,
- 39:05to something that's kind of taken the internet by storm here and one of
- 39:08the things I tell you all the time is don't believe the hype.
- 39:11That's not a hard and fast rule though.
- 39:12Sometimes you should believe the hype.
- 39:14And I,
- 39:14that's where I am on this particular,
- 39:16uh,
- 39:16situation,
- 39:17and there's a market position that I think is interesting
- 39:19associated with it.
- 39:21Um,
- 39:21you can see everything.
- 39:23The trailer,
- 39:23Nathan Fielder lives with Elizabeth Holmes,
- 39:25makes her cry and interrogates her husband in documentary.
- 39:28If you haven't seen this trailer yet,
- 39:29now I,
- 39:30I will say it's acquired,
- 39:31Nathan Fielder is certainly an acquired taste.
- 39:33I love Nathan Fielder.
- 39:34I've liked him for since Nathan for You,
- 39:35um,
- 39:36and some of his stuff even before that.
- 39:38Um,
- 39:38but,
- 39:38uh,
- 39:39not everyone loves the guy.
- 39:40He's a little awkward and it can be weird,
- 39:42but this is getting all sorts of hype online.
- 39:44Let me show you a clip
- 39:45of the trailer.
- 39:47You've never been suspicious that she's ever lied to you?
- 39:51No,
- 39:51never.
- 39:53I still have this weird feeling that there's some things that
- 39:57I'm not seeing.
- 39:59It's because I don't have anything to hide.
- 40:08I know what you're feeling
- 40:10No,
- 40:10you don't.
- 40:19I mean,
- 40:19it took me a really long time to
- 40:24Be OK
- 40:24with
- 40:26I'm
- 40:29With letting someone see me cry.
- 40:46I mean,
- 40:47first of all,
- 40:47it's
- 40:48one of the greatest trailers of all time.
- 40:50I,
- 40:50I don't know.
- 40:51I,
- 40:51I,
- 40:52I,
- 40:52I'm a,
- 40:53I'm a,
- 40:53a fan of movie trailers generally,
- 40:55but that's a great one.
- 40:56I mean,
- 40:56it comes off almost like it's like a creepy,
- 40:58what was that Backrooms?
- 40:59Didn't they do that?
- 41:00I think it was A24 as well.
- 41:01Has the same vibe.
- 41:02Anyway,
- 41:02it's a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes and
- 41:04Nathan Fielder is there talking about that,
- 41:07uh,
- 41:07you know,
- 41:08they're living with them,
- 41:09having conversations with Elizabeth Holmes.
- 41:10If you don't remember her story,
- 41:12it's a fascinating story in and of itself.
- 41:13She created this company,
- 41:14Theranos.
- 41:15She became
- 41:16Um,
- 41:16this massive celebrity.
- 41:18She had huge,
- 41:20uh,
- 41:20not only celebrities but like government officials
- 41:23and all these people on her board.
- 41:25She was developing,
- 41:26uh,
- 41:26this technology to,
- 41:28um,
- 41:28basically,
- 41:28you know,
- 41:29I just had to get blood tests,
- 41:30uh,
- 41:30the,
- 41:31the other day because I'm getting old,
- 41:32um,
- 41:33and then my doctor's like,
- 41:34you know,
- 41:34uh,
- 41:35you don't look.
- 41:35So good.
- 41:36Uh,
- 41:36so I got a bunch of blood tests and,
- 41:37uh,
- 41:38and it was like she,
- 41:39they still got like 900 jugs of,
- 41:41of blood out of my veins.
- 41:43The,
- 41:43the concept was great.
- 41:44Theranos basically promised you just get a pinprick,
- 41:47very small amount of blood,
- 41:48and they could test that blood a million different ways and
- 41:50you can get all these results that you might need.
- 41:53Unfortunately,
- 41:53the technology really didn't work.
- 41:55It was kind of BS.
- 41:56She sort of,
- 41:56you know,
- 41:56she's denied a lot of this stuff,
- 41:58but basically,
- 41:59I,
- 41:59I,
- 41:59I mean,
- 42:00I think she defrauded,
- 42:01uh,
- 42:01a lot of people out of a lot of money,
- 42:03at least that was the accusation.
- 42:04Anyway,
- 42:05she's kind of known as someone who maybe doesn't tell the truth all that often.
- 42:08Nathan Fielder there,
- 42:09uh,
- 42:09trying to get that out of her.
- 42:10He's,
- 42:10he will sit through every awkward silence to get
- 42:13it and it's gonna be an incredible movie.
- 42:14The reason why I bring this up
- 42:16on a prediction market context
- 42:17is there's a couple of markets tied to this that I wanna bring up.
- 42:19Um,
- 42:19let me bring up the Oscar nominees for Best Documentary Film.
- 42:23Now this.
- 42:26It's at 79 right now.
- 42:28I think that's a value.
- 42:29I can't imagine this movie not getting a nomination.
- 42:32It may not win.
- 42:33I,
- 42:33I kinda like the win market too.
- 42:34I don't remember what that was at,
- 42:36but like I kinda like the win market too.
- 42:37A nomination I really like at 79%.
- 42:41You know,
- 42:41the,
- 42:42the critics love Nathan Fielder.
- 42:45They love his stuff.
- 42:46He's a critical darling.
- 42:48He's out there doing really unique things.
- 42:50Everybody's talking about this.
- 42:51When people talk about a documentary,
- 42:53which is really rare,
- 42:54it usually does get nominations.
- 42:57Um,
- 42:57there is actually one,
- 42:59a category for this,
- 43:00for will it get a,
- 43:01a Best Picture nomination that's only happened 3 times in history,
- 43:04so it's super rare.
- 43:06But I'm like,
- 43:06I might even
- 43:07put a flyer on that.
- 43:08I don't know.
- 43:09That's where I am.
- 43:10I haven't done massive amounts of research.
- 43:12This is,
- 43:12here's what I kinda like.
- 43:13It's just something I saw,
- 43:14I'm kind of interested in,
- 43:15taking a little small position on it.
- 43:17I think there's good value there
- 43:18on Nathan Fielder's new documentary for Best Picture or for Best,
- 43:22uh,
- 43:22Documentary nomination and who knows,
- 43:23maybe a little bit more.
- 43:24Back in a second.
- 43:34And as we're looking at the,
- 43:35the,
- 43:36uh,
- 43:36live feed of that market,
- 43:37you could see it jumping.
- 43:38People,
- 43:39you know,
- 43:39this is why people love,
