- 0:00Speaker 1: We get going on the next round today presented by
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bets here on Sport and State. No Lance today.
- 0:06Speaker 1: He's at a funeral of a friend of the show
- 0:09Speaker 1: and a longtime friend of Lance's. So he'll be back
- 0:13Speaker 1: with us tomorrow. For those of you that are new
- 0:15Speaker 1: to the show, some of you may think we originate
- 0:18Speaker 1: from Los Angeles because Lance 90% of the time has
- 0:23Speaker 1: Rams gear on. Right. And I happen to roll in today.
- 0:26Speaker 1: With UCLA gear on. And a Chargers hat. Yeah, it
- 0:29Speaker 1: should be noted that we originate from Birmingham, Alabama. Somewhere
- 0:34Speaker 1: in his youth, Lance became a Rams fan. Brown's a
- 0:38Speaker 1: Dolphins fan. I'm a Buccaneers fan. We don't have a
- 0:40Speaker 1: team in Birmingham. We all pick different teams. All right.
- 0:44Speaker 1: When I was younger, living in a trailer park in Alabaster,
- 0:49Speaker 1: the USC-UCLA game would come on in late November or December.
- 0:54Speaker 1: And whether we had heat or not, We had TV.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Things looked really good out in Los Angeles during the
- 1:02Speaker 1: UCLA-USC game, and I chose to be a fan in
- 1:06Speaker 1: that rivalry of UCLA, so I have some UCLA gear.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Other than Alabama gear, I think secondly, my second most
- 1:15Speaker 1: team gear, well, Buccaneers first, Alabama second, and then UCLA
- 1:19Speaker 1: is probably my third amount of gear. So I dug
- 1:24Speaker 1: one out today because I figured... I like that shirt. Well,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I didn't want today to be the first show in
- 1:30Speaker 1: 2026 not to have Rams colors on it. Oh, okay.
- 1:33Speaker 1: So I brought it out today because the Rams played it.
- 1:35Speaker 1: On Rams game day, yes. And I've got no Rams.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I would say over the weekend... One of the best
- 1:42Speaker 1: uniform games was that Cal-UCLA game. That was a great
- 1:45Speaker 1: uniform game. Cal wore their best uniform. UCLA didn't screw
- 1:49Speaker 1: with theirs. I like theirs. I'm glad the Pac-12 will
- 1:51Speaker 1: never go away. Yeah, I know. I mean, I wish
- 1:54Speaker 1: that was Pac-12 after dark. Me too. It was ironically
- 1:57Speaker 1: a Big Ten versus ACC game. In Berkeley. In Berkeley, California.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We start today, though, with the last thing we saw,
- 2:04Speaker 1: which was the NFL game. And if Lance was here,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I would say this comment, and then Lance would say
- 2:11Speaker 1: something snarky to me. Done away. Done away. What comment?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Say it. Drake May is who I thought he was. Well,
- 2:19Speaker 1: through one game, yes. He looked like, now listen, I've
- 2:23Speaker 1: got a stat for you. He played 20 games in
- 2:26Speaker 1: the NFL and threw 10 interceptions. In his last two games,
- 2:30Speaker 1: he's thrown five interceptions.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'll say it again for you. His first 20 games,
- 2:36Speaker 1: 10 interceptions. No, you can't argue. His last two games,
- 2:39Speaker 1: five interceptions. Going back to the Super Bowl plus the
- 2:42Speaker 1: biggest game of week one, he's been bad.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 1: The common denominator is Seattle's pretty good at defensive football. Yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I mean, that's the common denominator is he's played the
- 2:51Speaker 1: same defense twice. And as you said, they are fantastic.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But he's, Jim, also an NFL quarterback. You've got to
- 2:56Speaker 1: be able to play against good defense. Well, the last
- 2:58Speaker 1: interception was bad. Oh, the first two weren't. Yeah, well, yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: There's three, Jim. There's three interceptions. Well, here's the deal.
- 3:06Speaker 1: The Patriots lose the game. Without their starting quarterback for 99.5%
- 3:11Speaker 1: of the game, the Seahawks win it 13-10. Don't gloss
- 3:15Speaker 1: past that. No, it's not easy to do.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I was going to point out, though, that Drew Locke,
- 3:21Speaker 1: who came in, outplayed Drake May. That's what I was
- 3:25Speaker 1: about to say. Drew Locke, who did not even know
- 3:26Speaker 1: he was playing last night, outplayed Drake May. Picture him
- 3:29Speaker 1: on the sideline eating a hot dog. Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 4: What?
- 3:32Speaker 1: What play we got coming up? Play six here? Oh,
- 3:35Speaker 1: wait a minute. I'm in? Wait, Chase Daniels told me
- 3:37Speaker 1: this was going to be the best job ever. He
- 3:39Speaker 1: played at Missouri. I played at Missouri. I thought I
- 3:41Speaker 1: was going to make millions doing this. That was, I mean,
- 3:44Speaker 1: that was amazing to watch Drew Locke outplay what a
- 3:49Speaker 1: lot of people think is a top, already a top
- 3:52Speaker 1: 10 quarterback in Drake May. Now look, it's a long season.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Drake May's got time to bounce back, but that was
- 3:57Speaker 1: a really bad performance. And to get outplayed by a
- 4:01Speaker 1: backup who was called into duty six plays into the game,
- 4:04Speaker 1: or six of their plays into the game, is pretty remarkable.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And don't get me wrong. They're not going to hang
- 4:09Speaker 1: Drew Locke's stat sheet in Canton. No. He was 16
- 4:13Speaker 1: of 22 for 187, but he had a touchdown and,
- 4:16Speaker 1: more importantly, zero interceptions. That's right. Play to that defense.
- 4:19Speaker 1: For May, he threw it 33 times, completed 23, 178,
- 4:23Speaker 1: one touchdown, and three interceptions. All in one quarter, Brown, which...
- 4:30Speaker 1: And this is the first time in NFL history. Here's
- 4:33Speaker 1: the stat line for you. The first time in NFL
- 4:37Speaker 1: history that a team has three interceptions. They're sacked three times.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They get three penalties and scored zero points in a
- 4:48Speaker 1: single quarter. How bad was that quarter for New England? Boy,
- 4:52Speaker 1: how bad did somebody have to dig for that stat?
- 4:54Speaker 1: But that is a bad quarter. Three interceptions, three sacks,
- 4:57Speaker 1: three penalties, zero points in a single quarter. Thank you,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yahoo Sports, who passed that along to me. So in
- 5:03Speaker 1: a quarter of football, you probably run 12 to 15
- 5:07Speaker 1: plays in the NFL? I mean, in a normal quarter. Yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 1: it could vary a lot, but let's say 12 to 15.
- 5:13Speaker 1: 12 to 15 plays. I mean, you know, a normal
- 5:15Speaker 1: team in the NFL runs, what, 50 to 60 plays. So,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know, just divide that by four. And they fit
- 5:21Speaker 1: all of that into 12 to 15 offensive plays. That's
- 5:24Speaker 1: a pretty bad. But OK, now the key here is
- 5:27Speaker 1: Seattle wins the football game. We're going to do our
- 5:29Speaker 1: NFL playoff projections. Lance has sent us his and we'll
- 5:33Speaker 1: do that in an hour here on Sporting State. So
- 5:37Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see. But I'd already gave you
- 5:39Speaker 1: and you can see it. You read it on the
- 5:41Speaker 1: Sporting State Web site. We did bowl predictions, and my
- 5:44Speaker 1: bowl predictions were Broncos and Patriots last year's AFC championship matchup.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Neither one of them make the playoffs. Well, right now
- 5:52Speaker 1: the Patriots are on the outside looking in. Right now,
- 5:54Speaker 1: if the playoffs started today. The worst comment in sports history,
- 5:58Speaker 1: if the playoffs started today. Well, they would be out.
- 6:01Speaker 1: The Patriots would be out. They would be out right now.
- 6:02Speaker 1: They'd lose all the tiebreakers. Yes, they're a game back
- 6:04Speaker 1: of everyone. But Seattle found a way. We don't know
- 6:07Speaker 1: how long Sam Darnold's out yet with the Hibs. They're
- 6:09Speaker 1: in a very competitive division. And we get Rams and
- 6:12Speaker 1: 49ers tonight. More on them later in the show. But
- 6:15Speaker 1: if you just looked at that Patriots team last night
- 6:17Speaker 1: who did lose A.J. Brown early on with an ankle,
- 6:22Speaker 1: they're helped out by their division. But do you think
- 6:24Speaker 1: that's a playoff team or not? Don't give me all
- 6:28Speaker 1: your playoffs.
- 6:28Speaker 4: The A.J.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Brown thing is alarming. That is a high ankle sprain,
- 6:33Speaker 1: which you know how those work.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Could be back next week, could be back next month.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Could plague him the entire season. I mean, I've seen it,
- 6:40Speaker 1: you know, I've seen it a bunch of different ways.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Like Brock Bowers, that was high ankle sprain, right? And
- 6:45Speaker 1: he was back in like two games. Tua was high
- 6:47Speaker 1: ankle sprain. He had an entire month off and they
- 6:50Speaker 1: really were worried about him playing against Oklahoma in the
- 6:53Speaker 1: playoffs for Alabama. They did the tightrope thing. But they
- 6:57Speaker 1: did with Brock Bowers too and he was back quicker.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So it's, you just never know with those things. They've
- 7:01Speaker 1: gotten better about treating them, but it could be something
- 7:03Speaker 1: that plagues him all year. And that worries me A lot.
- 7:06Speaker 1: The Drake May thing, I'm willing to say I've seen
- 7:11Speaker 1: a lot of Drake May. A lot of people. So
- 7:14Speaker 1: the Drake May conversation has to be a little bit
- 7:16Speaker 1: nuanced in a lot of different ways, Jim. Number one,
- 7:20Speaker 1: did Drake May have a really good season overall last year?
- 7:23Speaker 1: The answer is yes, he did. To the point that
- 7:25Speaker 1: a lot of people are like, well, he's top 10
- 7:26Speaker 1: quarterback in the NFL. Did he do it against what
- 7:29Speaker 1: a lot of people will say was one of the
- 7:30Speaker 1: easiest schedules anybody's faced in the NFL? Yes. I mean,
- 7:33Speaker 1: the numbers tell you that was an easy schedule. Has
- 7:36Speaker 1: he had two really bad games in a row? Yes,
- 7:38Speaker 1: he has against the same exact opponent on a pretty
- 7:40Speaker 1: big stage. So like all those things are worrisome, but
- 7:44Speaker 1: then all those things you can also maybe explain away.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So I don't know who Drake May is. I don't
- 7:49Speaker 1: know if Drake May is going to be what we
- 7:50Speaker 1: saw last year. Is he going to be what we've
- 7:53Speaker 1: seen in his last two games? Or the most likely
- 7:56Speaker 1: answer is C, somewhere in between that is what we're
- 7:59Speaker 1: going to find for Drake May. So that's last night's game.
- 8:02Speaker 1: We get Rams and Niners tonight. We'll talk about that
- 8:04Speaker 1: game a little bit later on in our four hours.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Two here on Sporting State, two on our next round platforms.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Hope you're with us on all the platforms. Make sure

- 9:29Speaker 1: One other NFL note before we jump into college football.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We know that tonight's game, the 49ers, went out last week.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The Rams went out basically yesterday.
- 9:40Speaker 2: That's right.
- 9:41Speaker 1: They're going to spend barely more than 24 hours in Melbourne.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Over a week, the 49ers are going to spend there.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Two different approaches. Rams don't want to get acclimated to
- 9:52Speaker 1: the time. They just basically want to do this as
- 9:55Speaker 1: an all-nighter and then come back and adjust. You've all
- 9:58Speaker 1: done it, guys. Let's go. But nobody had a worse
- 10:03Speaker 1: trip to Melbourne. And for everybody, it's a half trip over.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Then 49ers tied in Braden Willis. Braden Willis got on
- 10:13Speaker 1: a plane in San Francisco and Flew 16 hours, halfway
- 10:19Speaker 1: around the globe, as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
- 10:23Speaker 1: He landed in Melbourne, and he is released by the team.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I beg your pardon?
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 1: They didn't know this before he jumped the flight? 53-man
- 10:33Speaker 1: rosters are fluid, and he flies with the team. Where's
- 10:38Speaker 1: my Chick-fil-A? In-flight movie, 16 hours, ambient. Working on his
- 10:44Speaker 1: Australian accent. Yeah, good day, mate. Good day, mate. Good day, mate.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Good day, mate. Not for you, Braden.
- 10:49Speaker 4: No.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Hey, coach wants to see you.
- 10:51Speaker 5: He does not get to throw another shrimp on the bar.
- 10:53Speaker 1: He does not, no. So do they just carry extra
- 10:56Speaker 1: bodies with them just in case there was an injury?
- 10:58Speaker 1: I don't have all the details. But that's what that
- 11:00Speaker 1: sounds like, right? Like if somebody gets air sickness or...
- 11:04Speaker 1: You know, I mean, a lot of things can happen
- 11:06Speaker 1: in a long plane flight. But he wasn't, like, adjusted
- 11:09Speaker 1: down to the practice squad. He was released. Does he
- 11:13Speaker 1: have to stay in Australia? I don't know his plans back.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I assume they could either pay for him or he'll
- 11:18Speaker 1: just hang out. Sorry, son. You're released. You're stuck here
- 11:21Speaker 1: in Australia. Yeah. 49ers have to be on the hook
- 11:24Speaker 1: to get him back to the mainland. I think Players
- 11:26Speaker 1: Association probably covers this. Yeah. Well, that sucks. That sucks.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Because why would you want to endure that? Now, the
- 11:33Speaker 1: good news is he could do tourist things while everybody's
- 11:36Speaker 1: practicing getting ready for the game. He's been there a week.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Where's DJ? He's at the Sydney Opera House right now.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I don't know what he's doing.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Hey, guys.
- 11:42Speaker 7: There's been a community note added to the.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It's a real story. We didn't get AI'd. Thank God.
- 11:50Speaker 1: What's the community note?
- 11:51Speaker 7: The community note says that Braden Willis was waived by
- 11:55Speaker 7: the 49ers from the active roster after traveling to Australia...
- 11:59Speaker 7: but cleared waivers and was re-signed to the practice.
- 12:04Speaker 6: Remaining with the team rather than being sent home.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Cause I guess the practice squad traveled too. Cause they
- 12:09Speaker 1: had to practice. And in case you get an injury. Yeah, exactly. So,
- 12:13Speaker 1: all right, well, good for him. So I thought for
- 12:15Speaker 1: a moment, I thought Scott was going to say he
- 12:18Speaker 1: was claimed off waivers by the Rams. The Rams needed
- 12:20Speaker 1: a player. He's in Australia. Hey, we only need you
- 12:24Speaker 1: for this game. Come tell us what you guys are practicing.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I did. before he got picked up by the past
- 12:30Speaker 1: practice squad i could just see him like man these
- 12:32Speaker 1: beaches are amazing i'm sorry you guys had to practice
- 12:35Speaker 1: did you we got some bad news for you yeah
- 12:37Speaker 1: all right so he's been waved yeah and now he's
- 12:39Speaker 1: back with the 49ers on the practice squad so i
- 12:41Speaker 1: was talking to my dad on the way in today
- 12:43Speaker 1: and uh i was reminding him the game tonight is
- 12:46Speaker 1: on netflix you know um And he was like, is
- 12:50Speaker 1: this game going to be a sellout? And I said,
- 12:53Speaker 1: I really have no idea. I assume. He goes, son,
- 12:56Speaker 1: why are they playing this game in Australia? I said,
- 12:57Speaker 1: to grow the game. And he said, it's at 1025
- 13:01Speaker 1: in the morning there. I was like, yeah, it seems
- 13:03Speaker 1: to be a weird way to grow the game in Australia,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but okay. Now, I don't want to stereotype. Right. And
- 13:09Speaker 1: I've got a friend who lived in New Zealand. Isn't
- 13:13Speaker 1: that like right below Australia? Am I wrong about that?
- 13:16Speaker 5: It's, uh, yeah, it's just east of Australia.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's down in that part of the, that
- 13:20Speaker 1: part of the map, right? Yes.
- 13:22Speaker 8: Yes.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Um, she, she said the people that, I mean, she
- 13:27Speaker 1: lived there for a few years and I think her
- 13:28Speaker 1: brother is there. Um, they're not, they're not really early
- 13:32Speaker 1: risers unless you have to. In Melbourne?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah. They're, uh, no, in New Zealand.
- 13:37Speaker 3: In New Zealand.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Oh.
- 13:37Speaker 1: They're sort of, they like the nightlife.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 1: At least the people she was around. I just, do
- 13:43Speaker 1: you picture Australians being, uh, fun loving, uh, closer to
- 13:47Speaker 1: midnight than waking up at sunrise, people. That's just the
- 13:50Speaker 1: way I picture them.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Yeah, but I also imagined, or assumed rather, that if
- 13:55Speaker 4: you gave them a 10.25 kickoff time, they'd show up
- 14:00Speaker 4: at the stadium at like 7 a.m.
- 14:02Speaker 5: To start drinking.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Give me Brooks on the back row. Brooks, what you got?
- 14:06Speaker 8: Well, I mean, I just wonder how other countries internationally
- 14:10Speaker 8: operate in general. I was shocked when my wife and
- 14:13Speaker 8: I traveled to Europe when we went to Ireland.
- 14:16Speaker 6: That They, like, don't ever, like.
- 14:19Speaker 1: They don't ever stop drinking?
- 14:20Speaker 6: No, they, like, the pubs.
- 14:22Speaker 8: Don't open up until, like, 5, 6, 7, some of
- 14:25Speaker 8: them even 8 o'clock, and they stay open until 4
- 14:27Speaker 8: or 5 in the morning.
- 14:28Speaker 1: See, that's what I needed to hear because I'm going
- 14:30Speaker 1: to Ireland in October, and I will be there in
- 14:35Speaker 1: parts of Europe for two football Saturdays, college football Saturdays.
- 14:39Speaker 1: So my buddy Ben and I are all into football.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Our wives are doing work while we're over there. And
- 14:46Speaker 1: I have told him my plan on the college football
- 14:49Speaker 1: Saturday is to find an all-nighter place that we can
- 14:53Speaker 1: watch American football and split the G.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Is that what city you're going to be in?
- 14:56Speaker 1: We'll be in Dublin and then bounce around to a
- 14:59Speaker 1: couple other places. Gotcha. Other parts of Europe, probably.
- 15:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I like. I was astonished by that.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Like we, Maggie doesn't think I'll be able to get
- 15:06Speaker 1: American tackle college football on a, on a TV screen.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Oh gosh. Of all the games we've played over in
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ireland to start the season. You haven't grown this board enough.
- 15:14Speaker 1: You don't think TCU and North Carolina whetted the appetite
- 15:16Speaker 1: enough that they're watching every week.
- 15:18Speaker 8: I mean, that's if they have access to the TV, like,
- 15:21Speaker 8: like if they have ESPN over there, I don't, I mean,
- 15:24Speaker 8: the bar I went into, they had hurling on, which
- 15:26Speaker 8: is like the big sport over there.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but doesn't ESPN.
- 15:28Speaker 6: Hurling or hurling? Hurling is the national sport of Ireland.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I plan on being hurling a couple of times
- 15:34Speaker 1: down there. Hold her hair back! Doesn't ESPN like offload
- 15:40Speaker 1: that to some other sports networks, like some of the programming?
- 15:42Speaker 1: So yeah, you'll be able to get that.
- 15:44Speaker 6: Like a TSN in Canada?
- 15:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think you'll be able to get
- 15:46Speaker 1: the big games. Okay.
- 15:48Speaker 8: But I mean, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised, you know,
- 15:52Speaker 8: They're pretty far south in the southern hemisphere.
- 15:54Speaker 6: I don't know what time the sun comes up. Likewise, Ireland.
- 15:58Speaker 1: You're to Australia.
- 15:59Speaker 8: But I was saying, likewise, Ireland is very far north
- 16:02Speaker 8: in the northern hemisphere. The sun comes up at like
- 16:04Speaker 8: 8.30 every day there. If you're up early, it still
- 16:09Speaker 8: feels like nighttime.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing. I'll try not to be then. Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 1: 10.25 in the morning. I just think it's weird that
- 16:15Speaker 1: we're going somewhere to grow the game, but we want
- 16:16Speaker 1: to make sure it's still on primetime in the United
- 16:18Speaker 1: States and we're going to play it at 10 on
- 16:20Speaker 1: a Friday morning. Yeah.
- 16:21Speaker 6: Otherwise it'd be like the Olympics.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's just so strange. Uh, it'll be fun to watch
- 16:25Speaker 1: it tonight. Rams and 49ers with playoff implications out the
- 16:29Speaker 1: wazoo tonight on Netflix, seven 35 in that contest, uh,
- 16:35Speaker 1: Matt Stafford versus, uh, Brock Purdy. And they've had some
- 16:38Speaker 1: battles over the years. That should be a whole lot
- 16:41Speaker 1: of fun. Loser joins the Patriots on the outside looking at, um,
- 16:45Speaker 1: we'll get into our college football segment coming up in our,
- 16:48Speaker 1: Our next segment, Clay Travis, owner of Sport & State,
- 16:51Speaker 1: will join us at 1020 Central Time, 1120 Eastern Time
- 16:56Speaker 1: coming up. Joel Klatt on the next round show later on.
- 17:00Speaker 1: He'll be with us at 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central on
- 17:03Speaker 1: the next round platform. Our weekly visit with Joel Klatt.
- 17:07Speaker 1: There was a change. Speaking of Klatt, he had Mike Pereira. Pereira.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Mike Pereira. Yeah, Mike Pereira, the longtime official. and the
- 17:17Speaker 1: Fox analyst, the guy who has done the booth reviews
- 17:22Speaker 1: for the UFL, XFL, over the years, which I really enjoyed,
- 17:28Speaker 1: just having basically an eye in the sky, an official
- 17:31Speaker 1: make the call up in the booth. And he was like, listen,
- 17:35Speaker 1: we always told each other when we were developing the
- 17:39Speaker 1: NFL replay system, go by the clock that millions of
- 17:42Speaker 1: people see, not just three people in the replay booth
- 17:45Speaker 1: talking about the Western Michigan-Michigan game. Yesterday, it became official.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Big Ten and the NCAA and now all of college football,
- 17:54Speaker 1: they have a new replay standard to use the clock
- 17:58Speaker 1: that's embedded in the broadcast television. So what you're supposed
- 18:03Speaker 1: to do now as a replay official is use the
- 18:05Speaker 1: stadium clock that the fans in the stands can see. And...
- 18:11Speaker 1: I think it went one step further to say if
- 18:13Speaker 1: TV does not have access to the embedded clock, just
- 18:15Speaker 1: use the one on the scoreboard. Yeah. Just go with
- 18:17Speaker 1: that one. Which is dangerous. It is dangerous. That's not
- 18:21Speaker 1: always in sync. It is not. It's close. I mean,
- 18:23Speaker 1: it's generally close, but it's not always in sync. But again,
- 18:26Speaker 1: this is going back to are we going to use
- 18:28Speaker 1: the one few people can see or the one many
- 18:31Speaker 1: people can see? We need to use the one that
- 18:32Speaker 1: most people can see. because that's the one now I
- 18:36Speaker 1: can't pick up a time. I mean, we've been embedding
- 18:38Speaker 1: a clock on the TV screen since the 50s. So
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure every game is going to have an
- 18:43Speaker 1: embedded clock. And especially now, right? Yeah, in fact, yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: especially now. I mean, I think it's incumbent on the
- 18:48Speaker 1: networks to make sure you've got that dialed in because
- 18:53Speaker 1: we could need it in case of, again, like Lance
- 18:56Speaker 1: said yesterday or two days ago, whenever it was, This
- 18:59Speaker 1: is going to be similar to the Texas A &
- 19:01Speaker 1: M LSU overtime game. Texas A & M and LSU
- 19:03Speaker 1: played 60 overtimes, and we said, whoop, we've got to
- 19:06Speaker 1: fix overtime. We can't have all these extra plays. I mean,
- 19:09Speaker 1: it's exhausting these guys. There's injuries, all that. We've got
- 19:12Speaker 1: to fix overtime. So they completely overhauled the college football
- 19:15Speaker 1: overtime system. That's the way this is going to work.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I brought it up yesterday. Will we have red lights
- 19:20Speaker 1: on the goalposts?
- 19:21Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Will we have the buzzer? We're going to completely overreact
- 19:23Speaker 1: to this. 59.7 seconds, 50, you know. 10.2 seconds like
- 19:28Speaker 1: the only other time I can actually remember something that
- 19:33Speaker 1: significant in an added time was the kick six game
- 19:36Speaker 1: where they added a second which led to the Alabama
- 19:39Speaker 1: fighting for that second though yeah they wanted it to
- 19:41Speaker 1: kick the field goal yeah yeah I mean I think
- 19:43Speaker 1: Auburn fans and you know in hindsight they went out
- 19:45Speaker 1: but in real time Auburn fans have been like let's
- 19:46Speaker 1: go overtime let's go to overtime It's a great Rolling
- 19:50Speaker 1: Stones song for Auburn fans. You don't always get what
- 19:51Speaker 1: you want. Sometimes you get what you need. That's right.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But I mean, that's the only other time I can
- 19:56Speaker 1: remember something like this, where was there one second or
- 20:00Speaker 1: not one second? Well, no, I'll tell you another time
- 20:02Speaker 1: was the Big 12 championship game, Texas and Nebraska, when
- 20:06Speaker 1: If Texas loses that game, Alabama plays TCU for the
- 20:08Speaker 1: national championship. Texas got the one second back because the
- 20:11Speaker 1: ball landed out of bounds or crossed the boundary, whichever
- 20:14Speaker 1: the ruling was. They didn't get the second back. Nebraska,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think, right? No, I thought Texas got it back
- 20:20Speaker 1: to kick the game-winning field goal in the Big 12 championship.
- 20:23Speaker 1: And that's right, because the rule was supposedly the ball
- 20:25Speaker 1: has to eventually touch something, and it had not yet,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but they did. they jacked, they screwed that up somehow.
- 20:32Speaker 1: But see, in both those situations, like both replays had
- 20:35Speaker 1: the clock on the screen and we just went by that.
- 20:36Speaker 1: There wasn't some weird secret clock that showed zeros. So,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I mean, we're going to overreact to this and it's
- 20:42Speaker 1: probably never going to come up again. De-escalation in the
- 20:46Speaker 1: LSU SEC thing, but the presidents are still meeting today.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We'll talk about that. But the biggest story yesterday in
- 20:51Speaker 1: college football is around the Oklahoma-Michigan game. We'll jump into
- 20:55Speaker 1: a Disconnect between head coach and quarterback in that big
- 20:59Speaker 1: game this weekend when we come back on the next
- 21:01Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bets right here on Sporting State.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round.
- 21:08Speaker 6: In the chat room.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I want to know, and I'd love to get all
- 21:12Speaker 1: three of you behind the big glass, Brooks and Forrester
- 21:15Speaker 1: on the back row, Tyler punching the show, so everybody's
- 21:17Speaker 1: microphone here. In fact, Forrester, get ready to put the
- 21:21Speaker 1: commercial graphics back up again. Tyler, get the commercial music
- 21:25Speaker 1: ready to go. in the chat room here on sport
- 21:27Speaker 1: and say yesterday, the big 10 decided coming off Western
- 21:31Speaker 1: Michigan and Michigan that all replays now for all big
- 21:34Speaker 1: 10 games are out of conference games where big 10
- 21:38Speaker 1: is a home team with big 10 officials. They're going
- 21:41Speaker 1: to let you hear audio of the replay being discussed
- 21:45Speaker 1: between the official and the replay system. This should be
- 21:47Speaker 1: the standard in all the football. The SEC is behind
- 21:50Speaker 1: the curve in doing this. Yeah. That it, Would not
- 21:53Speaker 1: surprise me if before midseason the SEC jumps in on this.
- 21:57Speaker 1: They've been the holdout. I mean, I would hope. But
- 21:59Speaker 1: the Big Ten's going to do it now. When we
- 22:01Speaker 1: first started on the platform that we're on now, 1,279
- 22:05Speaker 1: shows ago, we would occasionally leave our cameras up during
- 22:11Speaker 1: the commercial break, and you were able to see us
- 22:14Speaker 1: walking around fiddling. What if during sport and state you
- 22:19Speaker 1: leave our microphones up like the Big Ten replay?
- 22:21Speaker 8: Ha, ha, ha.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Let's do an example of what that would be like.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Give me the– if you can, give me the graphic.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Hit that music, that sound bed that everyone loves.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Okay. All right.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And, okay, we've gone to commercial, and now it would
- 22:32Speaker 1: be like this. Did you play golf yesterday? Yeah, I–
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know, 76 yesterday, I made– No birdies.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So, you know, the day before, I shot even par.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Five birdies, five bogeys. I shot 75 back on Monday.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Backed up with a nine. I know. By the way,
- 22:49Speaker 1: you got perfect 10 board games when we come out. Oh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I got that. I'm on it.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Lance is back tomorrow.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Lance is back tomorrow, yeah. Don't open the back for
- 22:58Speaker 1: a second. Oh, you're open. Don't open yours? No. Y'all
- 23:01Speaker 1: talk about us? Y'all talk bad about us?
- 23:02Speaker 6: Yeah, y'all might get your feelings hurt.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Oh, well. You may get yours hurt.
- 23:06Speaker 6: That's fine.
- 23:07Speaker 1: How about that? That's fine. Did you see Brooks' graphic
- 23:09Speaker 1: last night? He messed up. How many misspellings was on that?
- 23:12Speaker 1: The 26th team that he had in there was actually
- 23:14Speaker 1: the 30th team from 1892. As the back room will
- 23:19Speaker 1: tell you, I cannot make fun of anyone's spelling errors.
- 23:22Speaker 1: That is one thing I don't do. If you'll notice,
- 23:24Speaker 1: I never do it, Scott. In the chat room, do
- 23:25Speaker 1: you want your mic?
- 23:26Speaker 5: I had to fix the title yesterday.
- 23:28Speaker 6: That's fine.
- 23:29Speaker 1: That's why we send it to you.
- 23:30Speaker 5: That's why I check.
- 23:31Speaker 1: That's why I send it to Tyler. Brown nailed me
- 23:34Speaker 1: in two seconds today. He walked in and I said, hey,
- 23:37Speaker 1: we're doing a segment on the next round today on
- 23:40Speaker 1: our little flip palette. Paddles.
- 23:43Speaker 6: Paddles.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Jim can't talk. I can't spell. I was like, hey,
- 23:46Speaker 1: would you go ahead and do mine too? Would you
- 23:48Speaker 1: write believer, non-believers? And he was like, you can't spell believer.
- 23:52Speaker 1: You don't know how to spell believer, do you, Jim?
- 23:53Speaker 1: So I had Brown do mine today, too. Did I
- 23:55Speaker 1: get it right? Hold it up and see if I
- 23:56Speaker 1: got it right. Who knows? We're horrible at spelling.
- 23:59Speaker 6: You got it right.
- 23:59Speaker 1: You nailed it.
- 24:00Speaker 5: Charlie Brown always said I before E except after C.
- 24:03Speaker 6: And married to a pastor who can't spell believer.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And in Will Stein. I just have to be one.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I don't have to spell it. There's no— Jesus isn't
- 24:11Speaker 1: going to meet you at the gates. There's no test
- 24:14Speaker 1: to get me into heaven. I just have to be
- 24:15Speaker 1: a believer. Thank God, because half the books of the Bible—
- 24:17Speaker 1: That's true. All right. From the book of Micah, we
- 24:20Speaker 1: have Perfect 10 Mortgage. I've seen borderline sacrilegious. I just
- 24:25Speaker 1: don't know how. The name says it. That's why we
- 24:28Speaker 1: don't have our microphones on. Yes, exactly. The name says it.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Apply in about 10 minutes. Close in 10 days. That's
- 24:34Speaker 1: the whole idea. A mortgage that is simple, fast, and fair.
- 24:37Speaker 1: 10 minutes start to finish right from your phone. We're
- 24:40Speaker 1: not talking about stacks of paperwork. No sitting across a
- 24:43Speaker 1: desk from a banker who talks down to you. You
- 24:46Speaker 1: check your options. It won't ding your credit score. You
- 24:48Speaker 1: find out where you actually stand before you commit to anything. Basically,
- 24:51Speaker 1: Perfect 10 Mortgage allows you to date the rate, marry
- 24:54Speaker 1: the house, get the house you want now. Are you
- 24:56Speaker 1: buying new construction? We'll ask about a builder program. Builder
- 25:00Speaker 1: funded rate buy downs. You cannot get a rate. You
- 25:02Speaker 1: can get a rate that the bank cannot print. You
- 25:05Speaker 1: get that rate. The bank cannot print. Again, it allows
- 25:08Speaker 1: you to date the rate, marry the house, and you
- 25:10Speaker 1: get a rate the bank can't print. You refinance when
- 25:13Speaker 1: the rates come down with Perfect 10 Mortgage. Perfect 10 Mortgage. 855-789-1010. 855-789-1010. Perfect10Mortgage. com.
- 25:23Speaker 1: That's Perfect10Mortgage. com. Perfect10Mortgage. com. I've got to say this part. Don't
- 25:28Speaker 1: interrupt me. Perfect 10 Mortgage is a DBA of Network
- 25:31Speaker 1: Funding LP. NMLS 2297. Equal housing lender. All borrowers must qualify.
- 25:36Speaker 1: This advertisement is not a promise to make a loan
- 25:39Speaker 1: perfected mortgage in pursuit of a more perfect mortgage. Um,
- 25:42Speaker 1: back in the days when we were on only radio, um,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and you couldn't see what we were doing, people, uh,
- 25:48Speaker 1: would have been surprised. They, when I'm in these kinds
- 25:50Speaker 1: of moods, there was an assumption that, uh, Jim had
- 25:56Speaker 1: a good time last night. There had been some biblical relations. Yeah. So, um,
- 26:00Speaker 1: in a good mood today. And, uh, It's ironic to
- 26:03Speaker 1: me that Brown does a perfect 10 mortgage read and
- 26:06Speaker 1: scores the 7.2 on the read. I mean, I stumbled
- 26:09Speaker 1: through it. Here's the problem with a perfect 10 mortgage read,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and I will continue doing it, but the word borrowers
- 26:16Speaker 1: is a tough word for me. And there is a
- 26:18Speaker 1: legal disclaimer in there where I absolutely positively have to
- 26:21Speaker 1: say that word. I can't dance around it. I have
- 26:24Speaker 1: to say the word borrowers. Borrowers. How do you deal
- 26:28Speaker 1: with the word burglary? Burglary is a tough one for me.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And a burglar-er is even more difficult. It used to
- 26:34Speaker 1: be jewelry for me. Jewelry has been tough for both
- 26:36Speaker 1: of us. And over the years, we've had many jewelry.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I do Crockett Coffee re-tier and have to really hit
- 26:42Speaker 1: the R. Because the first time I did it, it
- 26:44Speaker 1: was Crockett Coffee.
- 26:46Speaker 6: I've heard you say Crawfee, too.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Well, because I'm worried about that R. I've heard Crockett Crawfee. Yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 1: Crockett Crawfee, Crawfee Crockett.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Yeah, wow.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Oh, that's a different cup. Takes a big cup. That's
- 27:00Speaker 1: the mushroom blend. I kill me. All right, Oklahoma-Michigan's a
- 27:09Speaker 1: big game. We've talked a lot of Ohio State-Texas, but
- 27:11Speaker 1: equally big in the SEC Big Ten world is Oklahoma
- 27:15Speaker 1: and Michigan there in the big house. It's the big
- 27:18Speaker 1: noon kickoff. Joe Klatt's on our show coming up at
- 27:20Speaker 1: 1230 Eastern, 1130 Central to talk about that game and
- 27:23Speaker 1: Ohio State traveling to Texas. But there's a problem at Michigan.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Other than the fact that they needed a bonus second
- 27:30Speaker 1: and a Hail Mary to beat Western Michigan, their quarterback's
- 27:33Speaker 1: not playing good football. We start first with what Kyle
- 27:36Speaker 1: Whittingham said on Monday and then his quarterback, Bryce Underwood,
- 27:41Speaker 1: getting asked about what his coach said on Monday. As
- 27:44Speaker 1: a lot of people are pointing out around the country,
- 27:46Speaker 1: there seemed to be a little lost in translation here.
- 27:52Speaker 2: It's early in the season.
- 27:53Speaker 1: People are going to get up in arms. How firmly
- 27:55Speaker 1: is he QB-able?
- 27:56Speaker 3: He's our QB right now. And, you know, it's not
- 28:00Speaker 3: something that's infinite. I mean, at some point, you know,
- 28:03Speaker 3: we've got to turn a corner and we've got to
- 28:06Speaker 3: see improvement. What was your reaction to Coach McGinnis' comments
- 28:10Speaker 3: about how your job isn't permanent?
- 28:14Speaker 1: It was comments about that? Yeah, he said that your
- 28:18Speaker 1: job isn't infinite, you know, as a starter. That's cool.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I see that. What's your reaction?
- 28:26Speaker 3: It's cool.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't like that. I mean, if I'm a
- 28:31Speaker 1: Michigan fan, I mean, I don't like, well, I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 1: there's a lot there. Number one, not that the head
- 28:41Speaker 1: coach knows the questions that are going to be asked. Now,
- 28:43Speaker 1: he had to know that he's going to get some
- 28:45Speaker 1: Bryce Underwood questions, right?
- 28:46Speaker 8: Right.
- 28:48Speaker 1: You would like to think On something that delicate, the
- 28:52Speaker 1: head coach and the quarterback could have talked, or someone
- 28:56Speaker 1: could have talked to the quarterback and said, hey, look,
- 28:57Speaker 1: coach was asking about this. Here's what he said. There's
- 29:00Speaker 1: a staff of anywhere, no matter what school you're at,
- 29:03Speaker 1: anywhere between two and 20 people that do a department
- 29:07Speaker 1: called sports information. That is correct. And before your players
- 29:11Speaker 1: go out, the coach obviously gets it, but before your
- 29:15Speaker 1: players go and get in front of a microphone, there
- 29:18Speaker 1: is somebody whose job it is to let them know
- 29:22Speaker 1: what the talking points, the most likely talking points are
- 29:26Speaker 1: going to be. And in a lot of places, Alabama,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you're sometimes told if you're asked about this, this is
- 29:34Speaker 1: what you should say. And Alabama's not exclusive to this.
- 29:37Speaker 1: That's just the one I've been closest to. And they
- 29:40Speaker 1: were really good at it in the Saban era. And
- 29:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're not in the DeBoer era, but
- 29:43Speaker 1: I'm just saying the Saban era was really, really good
- 29:46Speaker 1: at that. Because he wanted things buttoned up from the
- 29:48Speaker 1: top to the bottom. It was one team, one message.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And it wasn't just the assistant coaches, it was the players, too.
- 29:55Speaker 1: That's right. And I would have thought Whittingham was kind
- 29:57Speaker 1: of along those lines myself. And you're coached up. to
- 30:01Speaker 1: not have moments like this. So it is a failure
- 30:06Speaker 1: on the people around Bryce that he didn't know what
- 30:11Speaker 1: coaches said and wasn't prepared for an answer, first off.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Or what if he was? Now, if he was, then
- 30:17Speaker 1: this one's intentional. I mean, well, let me... Keep in mind,
- 30:21Speaker 1: Kyle Whittingham didn't recruit him. He didn't. He inherited him.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And he's probably super frustrated with it. But the people
- 30:26Speaker 1: who are paying him... Yeah. who helped get him away
- 30:30Speaker 1: from his LSU commitment are still there, and he's still
- 30:34Speaker 1: drawing that paycheck. So you've got to be there for
- 30:36Speaker 1: the brand, you know? Yeah. You like doing this because
- 30:39Speaker 1: you think you're good in PR. You beat Bryce Underwood,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and I'll ask the same question, and you answer it
- 30:45Speaker 1: the way you think you should have. Oh, 100%. If I,
- 30:48Speaker 1: and I've had an opportunity to coach a few players
- 30:50Speaker 1: over the years who play college football, this is exactly
- 30:54Speaker 1: what I would say. Bryce?
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Coach was in here earlier, and he said your job
- 30:59Speaker 1: as a starter isn't infinite. You're not guaranteed that job
- 31:02Speaker 1: moving forward. What's your reaction to that? There's not a
- 31:05Speaker 1: position on the team whose job is infinite. We've got
- 31:08Speaker 1: to go out and earn it every day, and I
- 31:09Speaker 1: came up short in game one. My job is to
- 31:12Speaker 1: be better in game two against Oklahoma this week, and
- 31:14Speaker 1: we're all practicing to do that. Whether you're the quarterback
- 31:17Speaker 1: or the left tackle or the safety, we've all got
- 31:20Speaker 1: to get better. It was not acceptable what we put
- 31:22Speaker 1: on tape in game one. If you had any comedic timing,
- 31:25Speaker 1: you would have said, Chappell. You're just the guy. You're
- 31:27Speaker 1: just the gotcha guy. Aren't you? Um, I mean, that's
- 31:30Speaker 1: what you wanted to serious answer. My bad. That's the
- 31:33Speaker 1: answer you wanted to hear though.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:34Speaker 1: You want to hear your quarterback say that like, Hey,
- 31:37Speaker 1: my job isn't guaranteed. I've got to play better.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I'm going to take ownership of it. I did not
- 31:42Speaker 1: play well enough for us to, well, can't say you
- 31:45Speaker 1: didn't play well enough to win the game. Cause they
- 31:46Speaker 1: still think they won the game. Yeah. I did not
- 31:48Speaker 1: play well enough Saturday. I've got to play better for
- 31:52Speaker 1: us to beat Oklahoma or anybody else on our schedule. Uh, Truthfully,
- 31:56Speaker 1: I mean, he's got a collared shirt on and all
- 31:58Speaker 1: of that. Probably I wouldn't have a toboggan on in
- 32:01Speaker 1: September when it's still pretty warm outside. Yeah, I don't
- 32:05Speaker 1: disagree with that. I'm in a hoodie in here all
- 32:06Speaker 1: the time and a hat on.
- 32:07Speaker 3: That's right.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Maybe the coldest room in Ann Arbor. I don't know. Yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but I'm not representing Block M or anything. But I
- 32:13Speaker 1: would say this. Kyle Whittingham didn't recruit me. You know,
- 32:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't have said that out loud, but that's what
- 32:18Speaker 1: he's thinking. This guy didn't recruit me. Yeah, this guy
- 32:21Speaker 1: in one game is already going to talk about how
- 32:23Speaker 1: my job is up for grabs. Interesting is I always
- 32:26Speaker 1: wonder about this with these commitments and stuff. Is there
- 32:30Speaker 1: something in my NIO contract that says I'm the starting quarterback?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Because that's the way his answer. Bench me. Yeah, that's
- 32:38Speaker 1: the way his answer sound is like. Has the new
- 32:41Speaker 1: coach seen my contract? Does he know he can't bench me?
- 32:45Speaker 1: I mean, it was a hefty contract, and it had
- 32:48Speaker 1: to have enough in it. Maybe it was just money,
- 32:51Speaker 1: but it had to have enough in it to pry
- 32:53Speaker 1: him away from LSU. By the way. There's no telling
- 32:57Speaker 1: what is actually in that contract. By the way, the
- 33:00Speaker 1: coach that had him committed to LSU and Michigan stole
- 33:03Speaker 1: him away was Brian Kelly. Brian Kelly on SiriusXM telling
- 33:08Speaker 1: my buddy Danny Connell. Listen, they're not using him right.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Brian Kelly says that they're not using Bryce Underwood properly.
- 33:18Speaker 1: That's right. If he was playing for me, he's not
- 33:23Speaker 1: a drop-back quarterback. He's not a guy that's going to
- 33:26Speaker 1: stand in the pocket and read through his progressions. I'm
- 33:29Speaker 1: paraphrasing here. This is a quote, though. You've got to
- 33:32Speaker 1: keep him on the move, and you've got to run him.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You've got to let him run. He's a big physical guy.
- 33:38Speaker 1: So here's Brian Kelly, the guy who had Bryce Underwood
- 33:41Speaker 1: committed to LSU, now out of coaching but on a
- 33:46Speaker 1: national show saying that Michigan isn't using him right, that
- 33:52Speaker 1: he's not a stand-in-the-pocket, read-through progression, that you've got to
- 33:56Speaker 1: let this athletic guy, you've got to let him eat.
- 33:58Speaker 1: You've got to have design runs. You've got to run him.
- 34:01Speaker 1: You've got to keep him on the move. Let him
- 34:03Speaker 1: roll out and throw. You can't have him sitting back
- 34:06Speaker 1: there reading through progressions. Now, I don't know if Bryce
- 34:08Speaker 1: takes that as an insult.
- 34:10Speaker 6: Probably.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Or if Bryce goes, that's why I was committed to him.
- 34:14Speaker 1: You guys need to listen to him.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Now, if I'm making $ 12, $ 13 million, I don't know
- 34:20Speaker 1: what the conversations he had. He may not want to run.
- 34:24Speaker 1: I know through watching Jalen Milrow at times at Alabama,
- 34:31Speaker 1: and I don't know if this would be fact, but
- 34:33Speaker 1: in watching tape, there were games– where it looked like
- 34:38Speaker 1: Jalen Milrow went out to prove a point to NFL
- 34:42Speaker 1: scouts that I can be a pocket passer. There were
- 34:45Speaker 1: open runs where he held, held, held, held. And I
- 34:48Speaker 1: think first year at Oklahoma, when Alabama was safely in
- 34:52Speaker 1: the playoffs, it felt like that was one of those
- 34:55Speaker 1: games where he didn't take off and run like he
- 34:59Speaker 1: would have in the Georgia game early on. Late in
- 35:02Speaker 1: the year, when maybe he was thinking about, maybe he wasn't,
- 35:06Speaker 1: but his agents were in his ear thinking about, hey,
- 35:10Speaker 1: what are you going to be in the NFL level?
- 35:11Speaker 1: What are we putting on tape for the scouts? Let's
- 35:13Speaker 1: show them that they're talking about you being a running quarterback.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Let's show them we can be an in-the-pocket quarterback, just
- 35:20Speaker 1: like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady or any of those guys.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Let's show them that we can be a pocket guy.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Let's don't get out and run. And I think that was...
- 35:32Speaker 1: At times it looked to me like when I was
- 35:34Speaker 1: watching Jalen Milrow play his two years at Alabama as
- 35:37Speaker 1: a starting quarterback, there were games where I was like, man,
- 35:40Speaker 1: why is he not running the football today? Why did
- 35:43Speaker 1: he not just take that escape out the back door?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Why did he stay in the pocket and try to
- 35:48Speaker 1: force that downfield or get into traffic and eventually run
- 35:51Speaker 1: into a crowd? Royal Payne says the word is, which
- 35:55Speaker 1: when you say the word is generally in the chat,
- 35:57Speaker 1: I'm assuming he means like fans, message boards, things like that.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Word is the Michigan players are mad at the offense
- 36:03Speaker 1: being installed, but it's likely that way because Kyle Whittingham
- 36:06Speaker 1: doesn't think Underwood could play quarterback. I mean, the players
- 36:09Speaker 1: don't like the offense they're having to run, but they're
- 36:11Speaker 1: having to run it because Kyle Whittingham thinks. I mean,
- 36:15Speaker 1: but Brian Kelly. Good thing they don't play the Seattle Seahawks. Oh, wait,
- 36:19Speaker 1: they play the college version of the Seattle Seahawks this
- 36:21Speaker 1: week in Brent Venable's Oklahoma team. Yeah, I mean, Western
- 36:25Speaker 1: Michigan did a tremendous job in that game playing defense,
- 36:27Speaker 1: but they ain't doing it with SEC talent.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:29Speaker 1: And this is going to be... And this guy coming
- 36:32Speaker 1: in this weekend, Brent Venables, is one of the best
- 36:35Speaker 1: at confusing the hell out of you when you're a quarterback.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Brent Venables, and this goes back to the game you
- 36:41Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, Alabama and Oklahoma. And for those that don't
- 36:45Speaker 1: remember that in year one of Kalen DeBoer, as Jim said,
- 36:47Speaker 1: Alabama went to Norman safely in the playoffs until they
- 36:50Speaker 1: weren't in that game. And it was one of the
- 36:54Speaker 1: most puzzling outcomes I have ever seen. And shortly after
- 36:58Speaker 1: that game. 24-3, was that the final? Something like that, yeah.
- 37:02Speaker 1: I mean, there was a Ryan Williams touchdown wiped off
- 37:05Speaker 1: the board on a missed call. The SEC officials, they
- 37:11Speaker 1: screwed the call up. But still, I mean, Alabama was
- 37:15Speaker 1: going to lose that game. That would have made it
- 37:16Speaker 1: look a little better, but it was still just a
- 37:19Speaker 1: one-sided game. Couldn't stop Jackson Arnold running the football, and
- 37:22Speaker 1: that's all he could do. But Jalen Milrow was especially
- 37:25Speaker 1: bad in that game. Threw a pick six. It was
- 37:27Speaker 1: just bad in the game. And then word started to
- 37:29Speaker 1: come out later on that Venables had spotted that Jalen
- 37:35Speaker 1: Milrow was tipping plays by the way he aligned his feet.
- 37:39Speaker 1: If I remember it, if his feet were staggered, it
- 37:42Speaker 1: was a pass play. If his feet were together, it
- 37:44Speaker 1: was a run play. Something like that. Something as simple
- 37:46Speaker 1: as that. And they had picked it up on film.
- 37:49Speaker 1: So I start running up the flagpole with people that
- 37:51Speaker 1: know football. I'm like, does this sound, before I ever
- 37:54Speaker 1: say this on the show, does this sound even legitimate?
- 37:56Speaker 1: And many of them had seen the video that was
- 37:58Speaker 1: going around on social media, and they're like, yeah, I mean,
- 38:01Speaker 1: that's believable. And almost everyone to a man, all these
- 38:04Speaker 1: analysts I talk to, or people in the football world
- 38:05Speaker 1: are like, that is Brent Venable's secret power. He is
- 38:10Speaker 1: one of the absolute best in the world at finding
- 38:12Speaker 1: your tendencies and being prepared for them. And legally stealing signs.
- 38:17Speaker 1: That too, but there's less of that now with the
- 38:19Speaker 1: in-helmet communication. He used to be really good at stealing signs.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Legally.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Legally. For the Michigan fans that are tuned in. And
- 38:27Speaker 1: they would say that that was Brent Venable's superpower is
- 38:29Speaker 1: he is really good at watching film and picking up
- 38:32Speaker 1: your tendencies. That he's not as good a game day
- 38:36Speaker 1: coach as he gets credit for being, but he is
- 38:39Speaker 1: an exceptional pregame coach and finding what you do too often...
- 38:44Speaker 1: and making sure his team is very prepared for that
- 38:46Speaker 1: and knowing it's coming before it comes because of the
- 38:50Speaker 1: way you tip it off. When we come back, we'll
- 38:53Speaker 1: continue our college football conversation, including a little on Ohio
- 38:58Speaker 1: State and Texas and some other big games going on
- 39:01Speaker 1: in the SEC. Clay with us next hour as well.
- 39:06Speaker 1: And when we come back, Arch getting a little bit
- 39:12Speaker 1: more like Peyton And I'll tell you how when we
- 39:15Speaker 1: come back on the next round presented by Hard Rock
- 39:18Speaker 1: Bets on Sporting State. Hey, before we get back to
- 39:21Speaker 1: college football, baseball gets really good when you get to
- 39:26Speaker 1: the playoffs. We're closing in on that. I lose it
- 39:28Speaker 1: a little bit in September. because of football starting. But
- 39:35Speaker 1: Kyle Schwerber has a chance to break a Babe Ruth record.
- 39:40Speaker 1: And anytime you can do that, that's impressive. Kyle Schwerber
- 39:44Speaker 1: hit a home run last night. He leads the home
- 39:47Speaker 1: run race today. over Pete Crow Armstrong of the Cubs,
- 39:50Speaker 1: 44 homers for Schwarber, 41 for the Cubby PCA. Schwarber
- 39:58Speaker 1: has hit 231 home runs since he joined the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 40:04Speaker 1: If he hits five more this month before we get
- 40:08Speaker 1: to the playoffs, he will pass Babe Ruth for the
- 40:12Speaker 1: most home runs with a franchise in your first five years.
- 40:18Speaker 1: That's pretty amazing. That is pretty amazing, yeah. That means
- 40:21Speaker 1: he would have hit more home runs than Babe Ruth
- 40:23Speaker 1: did his first five years with the Yankees.
- 40:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Do you remember a guy named Ryan Howard played first
- 40:28Speaker 1: base for the Phillies? Yeah, he's an Alabama guy. I
- 40:30Speaker 1: don't think so. Ryan Howard is, I'm 99.9% sure, is
- 40:34Speaker 1: an Alabama guy. We're going to need Google confirmation of that.
- 40:37Speaker 1: White Plains, Alabama is my guess. White is zero chance.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Is there even a place called White Plains, Alabama? Yes,
- 40:42Speaker 1: that's why it's very close to where I grew up.
- 40:44Speaker 1: And he ain't from White Plains.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Yeah, he could be from Alabama. He's not from White Plains.
- 40:50Speaker 1: White Plains, I can promise you that, yes. Missouri.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Ryan Howard's not even from Alabama? No, God no.
- 40:57Speaker 6: Where did you get White Plains from?
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah, where did you get Alabama from? And then White
- 41:00Speaker 1: Plains was the one that really short-circuited me.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I've got an amateur golfer that graduated from White Plains
- 41:06Speaker 4: High School in Calhoun County competing in regional tournaments like
- 41:11Speaker 4: the Sunny King Charity Classic.
- 41:13Speaker 5: He's named Ryan Howard.
- 41:14Speaker 1: His name's Ryan Howard?
- 41:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Oh, that's who I was thinking of. So technically I
- 41:19Speaker 1: wasn't wrong. Yeah, technically not. The Sonny King charity classic.
- 41:23Speaker 1: That is so, I mean, there's like two people watching
- 41:26Speaker 1: the show that laugh at that, Tyler, but that was
- 41:27Speaker 1: pretty funny. That's a local car dealer. I just looked
- 41:30Speaker 1: it up.
- 41:31Speaker 4: What?
- 41:31Speaker 8: I Googled a pro baseball player with last name Howard
- 41:34Speaker 8: from Alabama. The most notable professional baseball connection from a
- 41:38Speaker 8: player last name Howard with ties to Alabama is former
- 41:41Speaker 8: MLB MVP Ryan Howard.
- 41:44Speaker 6: Whose parents are originally from Birmingham. Take a victory lap.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Didn't say he was from Birmingham, though.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Ryan Howard, the Philly, his parents are from Birmingham?
- 41:54Speaker 6: Correct.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 41:56Speaker 8: And he, as a result, participated in the events at
- 41:59Speaker 8: Rickwood Field.
- 42:01Speaker 6: When they had the... Did they once travel to White Plains?
- 42:05Speaker 1: Yeah, perhaps. Ryan Howard, I think.
- 42:09Speaker 5: He was born in Florissant, Missouri.
- 42:12Speaker 1: No, but he lived in Alabama. He lived in Alabama.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I am actually going to give Jim credit for there
- 42:16Speaker 1: being an Alabama connection. I'd never heard that. He lived
- 42:18Speaker 1: in Alabama. I think he's a member of the... Alabama
- 42:21Speaker 1: Sports Hall of Fame and which UMC every year. I
- 42:23Speaker 1: think you've gone too far on that, but I will
- 42:25Speaker 1: give you credit. He was the fastest, I think, in
- 42:30Speaker 1: Major League history to 200 home runs or 250 home
- 42:33Speaker 1: runs or something like that. One of those milestones. And
- 42:38Speaker 1: I remember thinking, man, this guy, he's got a chance
- 42:40Speaker 1: to do something. And buddy, I think he probably finished
- 42:43Speaker 1: his career with like 300, 350 home runs. So it's
- 42:46Speaker 1: amazing when you give me that stat. how long a
- 42:50Speaker 1: guy like Babe Ruth actually did it to get to
- 42:52Speaker 1: where he was. Kyle Schwarber feels like he's played a
- 42:54Speaker 1: pretty long time. Had to do it a long time. Yeah,
- 42:56Speaker 1: to be really good, really elite for a long time.
- 42:59Speaker 1: And Henry Aaron and Barry Bonds and people like that.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Tell us about XXXY. We'll get to a little Ohio State, Texas,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and others. Jennifer Say, she founded a company because she's
- 43:09Speaker 1: a former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president, and
- 43:13Speaker 1: was working for a company that she was going to
- 43:15Speaker 1: say something she didn't believe in, frankly. And she didn't
- 43:18Speaker 1: want to do that. So she walked away, started her
- 43:19Speaker 1: own company, XXXY Athletics. Their mission and words empower female
- 43:24Speaker 1: athletes and take a stand for fair competition. They call
- 43:27Speaker 1: it the T that launched a movement. We are talking

- 43:45Speaker 1: It is where you can find official apparel for the

- 44:05Speaker 1: over $ 100 at XXXYAthletics.com. Arch Manning had a chance to
- 44:11Speaker 1: do his news conference this week before the big Ohio
- 44:13Speaker 1: State-Texas game there in Austin. Prime time on ABC this
- 44:18Speaker 1: week with Herb Street, Fowler, Holly, and Laura Rutledge. Game one,
- 44:24Speaker 1: we all saw the video of Arch running out of
- 44:28Speaker 1: the tunnel. Here it is. The smoke. he takes a tumble.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It looks like it's a skit on SNL. It really does.
- 44:35Speaker 1: It looks like it's AI that it's not real, but
- 44:38Speaker 1: it is real. So real that Arch Manning got asked
- 44:40Speaker 1: about it and gave a very Peyton like answer.
- 44:44Speaker 8: What exactly went through your mind when you're coming out
- 44:46Speaker 8: the tunnel for the first game and all of a
- 44:48Speaker 8: sudden you're on the ground?
- 44:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it was definitely a little bit of a shock. Um,
- 44:54Speaker 2: I was definitely thrown off. It's hard to see in
- 44:55Speaker 2: that smoke. It's a little deceiving. Um, But it's good
- 44:57Speaker 2: getting my first hit before the game started and getting
- 45:01Speaker 2: ready to roll.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:02Speaker 2: See?
- 45:03Speaker 1: He's got a little bit of that Manning dry humor there.
- 45:05Speaker 1: A little Manning dry humor. I mean, the more I've
- 45:09Speaker 1: watched that video, the crazier it feels that your star athlete,
- 45:14Speaker 1: your Heisman Trophy candidate, who's, you know, he's being followed
- 45:19Speaker 1: by cameras. There's a camera to his left. There are
- 45:22Speaker 1: whatever that is to his right. Somebody trying to just
- 45:24Speaker 1: reach out and touch him. I mean, that's a really
- 45:27Speaker 1: dangerous situation. Yeah, I would say this. That can't be
- 45:32Speaker 1: the setup this week when they run out of the tunnel.
- 45:35Speaker 1: It reminded me of when....
- 45:38Speaker 8: Jalen Hurts almost had the fans fall on him walking
- 45:41Speaker 8: into the tunnel after the Commanders game a few years ago.
- 45:44Speaker 8: I mean, it was like seconds away from disaster. But
- 45:47Speaker 8: I mean, franchise quarterback getting wiped out.
- 45:49Speaker 1: My question is who we got right here in the
- 45:51Speaker 1: cowboy hat that's reaching out and touching my star quarterback.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Let's start with that. I got who's this in my tunnel.
- 45:57Speaker 1: And it sort of times out as he grabs him,
- 45:59Speaker 1: he trips over something as well. Yeah, it's more than touching.
- 46:02Speaker 1: He grabs him. Yeah, I mean, but who is comfortable
- 46:04Speaker 1: enough in my tunnel? Is this a Texas employee? Is
- 46:06Speaker 1: this Joe Phan? Did this guy win a raffle to
- 46:10Speaker 1: stand here? What happened? Well, I'm telling you what's happening.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I'll tell you what's happening. He knows that there is
- 46:14Speaker 1: something right there, and his job is to keep players
- 46:17Speaker 1: from running there. So he's trying to protect.
- 46:19Speaker 4: It looks like number 19 stumbles right before Arch has
- 46:24Speaker 4: his big tumble.
- 46:25Speaker 1: He does. You're right, Tyler. So I wonder if there.
- 46:27Speaker 5: Was something on the ground that they couldn't see because
- 46:29Speaker 5: of the smoke.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the first time I noticed that.
- 46:31Speaker 5: He's actually just trying.
- 46:32Speaker 1: To help them. Yeah, 19, he's picking himself up, too.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I had not noticed that until just now. And the
- 46:36Speaker 1: old boy in the cowboy hat and the photographer there
- 46:38Speaker 1: with Mickey Mouse ears on or headphones, whichever. is trying
- 46:45Speaker 1: to save Arch. He's actually a hero, and you've been
- 46:49Speaker 1: criticizing him for two days. No, I just said I'm
- 46:51Speaker 1: asking the question, why is he touching my guy? But
- 46:53Speaker 1: I think Tyler and you have gotten to the bottom
- 46:55Speaker 1: of this. In this game.
- 46:56Speaker 4: The modern-day Richard Jewell. Everybody thinks this dude's setting off
- 47:00Speaker 4: a bomb.
- 47:00Speaker 5: He's saving the day.
- 47:02Speaker 1: That's right. You were the old lazy FBI guy. I
- 47:05Speaker 1: really was. Let's chase the fat white guy. We got him! Okay,
- 47:08Speaker 1: so follow me here. Is Steve Sarkeesian and I saw
- 47:13Speaker 1: this being discussed on CBS Sports last night, in this game,
- 47:18Speaker 1: is Steve Sarkeesian Ryan Day 2024? Ryan Day 2024 was
- 47:24Speaker 1: the guy that won a bunch of games but didn't
- 47:26Speaker 1: have a championship to show for it. And they'd given
- 47:28Speaker 1: him all this money to build that 30, well, it
- 47:30Speaker 1: was a lot of money back then, a $ 30 million roster.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Ryan Day beat Texas, goes on to win the national championship.
- 47:36Speaker 1: The significant difference here is Ryan Day, also what stacked
- 47:40Speaker 1: up on him was his performance against his arch rival
- 47:42Speaker 1: in Michigan and the fact that Michigan, you know, did
- 47:46Speaker 1: they win the national championship in 2024? Was that the
- 47:48Speaker 1: year they won it?
- 47:49Speaker 2: 2023.
- 47:49Speaker 1: So they were coming off the national championship. Yeah, they
- 47:52Speaker 1: were coming off the national championship. Right, thank you. You know,
- 47:55Speaker 1: he doesn't have that to deal with because A &
- 47:56Speaker 1: M has been good. They haven't been that good. And
- 47:59Speaker 1: he's beaten them both times. But if you flip that,
- 48:04Speaker 1: They're exactly alike. Like, if you let A & M
- 48:06Speaker 1: have beaten Texas two straight years and A & M
- 48:08Speaker 1: played for the national championship or something like that before
- 48:10Speaker 1: he has, I think he would be feeling excruciating pressure
- 48:13Speaker 1: right now. A lot of similarities with the fact that, okay,
- 48:16Speaker 1: he's got all this money for this roster. He's had
- 48:18Speaker 1: a lot of money the last two years like Ryan
- 48:19Speaker 1: Day had, but he really hadn't delivered the big prize yet.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Ryan Day in 2024 did it, ironically, by beating Sark
- 48:25Speaker 1: on the way to doing it. And now here's a
- 48:28Speaker 1: big game. It's only the regular season. But Sark's got
- 48:31Speaker 1: to deliver at some point, just like despite all the wins,
- 48:34Speaker 1: Ryan Day eventually had to deliver. And yes, the rivalry
- 48:38Speaker 1: losses to Michigan was a major component. Major component. And
- 48:42Speaker 1: Sark hasn't gotten to that point yet. But there have
- 48:45Speaker 1: been some losses that Texas fans aren't happy with. And
- 48:49Speaker 1: not necessarily to Ohio State. And if he loses to
- 48:51Speaker 1: Ohio State this weekend, I don't know, you know, Chapel,
- 48:56Speaker 1: if you played football, but there's... Gotcha, yeah. They got
- 48:59Speaker 1: 10 more games. They give us 10 more games after this,
- 49:01Speaker 1: even if he loses this one. But Sark needs to
- 49:04Speaker 1: deliver sooner rather than later. And with that in mind,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I sort of agree with CBS Sports, who was sort
- 49:10Speaker 1: of making a comparison that Sark is now the modern
- 49:13Speaker 1: day ryan day um how all right let's let's play
- 49:17Speaker 1: a scenario how much worse is it for him if
- 49:20Speaker 1: oklahoma goes and looks impressive at michigan and you lose
- 49:24Speaker 1: to ohio state do you think that kind of ramps
- 49:26Speaker 1: it up a little bit too i think anytime in
- 49:28Speaker 1: the big rivalries um there's an old saying help me
- 49:32Speaker 1: with the old saying our buddy uh doug layton And
- 49:36Speaker 1: I think our buddy David Crane, who's the voice of
- 49:38Speaker 1: UAB football, carried this saying in his collegiate days at
- 49:41Speaker 1: Alabama when he was our intern, that on Sunday, when
- 49:46Speaker 1: you used to go to the driveway and pick up
- 49:48Speaker 1: the paper. The sprint Sunday. The sprint Sunday because Alabama
- 49:52Speaker 1: had won. Yeah. Doug Layton used to say, Alabama win.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Auburn lost, Tennessee lost. It was a sprint Sunday. I
- 49:57Speaker 1: sprinted to the end of the driveway to get the paper.
- 49:59Speaker 1: That's right. That's an old school saying. Yeah, but I
- 50:01Speaker 1: would imagine it's a sprint Sunday if you're a Texas
- 50:05Speaker 1: fan when Oklahoma and Texas A & M lose on
- 50:09Speaker 1: the Saturday you win. Flip that around.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:12Speaker 1: If you're Oklahoma, you win a big game at Michigan.
- 50:14Speaker 1: That's right. And they lose to Ohio State all through Oklahoma.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Not the show-me state. Can't remember what Oklahoma is. It's
- 50:21Speaker 1: the Sooner State. The Sooner State, ironically. Right there in
- 50:23Speaker 1: the nickname. They're going to be sprinting to driveways to
- 50:26Speaker 1: get what's left of newspapers. I mean, wait a minute.
- 50:29Speaker 1: This is from last Friday. I mean, I do think
- 50:33Speaker 1: all those things would add to it. Now, I think
- 50:35Speaker 1: Texas is going to win this game. So I think,
- 50:37Speaker 1: you know, Sark's not going to have to worry about
- 50:39Speaker 1: all this. But in the event that they don't, and
- 50:42Speaker 1: a lot of this too, Jim, just depends on does
- 50:43Speaker 1: Sark look overwhelmed? Is there a critical error? I mean,
- 50:48Speaker 1: he is still getting criticized for not running it down
- 50:52Speaker 1: on the goal line against Ohio State when they played
- 50:55Speaker 1: them in the college football playoffs two years ago. That's right.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I mean, he's still getting criticized for that. So if
- 51:01Speaker 1: something happens in this game where he looks overwhelmed or
- 51:04Speaker 1: he makes a bad play call or something like that,
- 51:07Speaker 1: I mean, it is only going to get more and
- 51:09Speaker 1: more ramped up. One game tonight, Florida A & M
- 51:12Speaker 1: in Miami. In that contest, the only reason to have
- 51:16Speaker 1: it on a side TV is that it's something to
- 51:18Speaker 1: put on the side TV, 7 o'clock Central, 8 Eastern
- 51:21Speaker 1: on the ACC network. But you also will be watching
- 51:26Speaker 1: if you're interested in the Heisman race. On3 Sports has
- 51:30Speaker 1: its current Heisman ranking out. And if you are a meteorologist,
- 51:35Speaker 1: you're going to love the top of it. It's Hurricane Hurricane.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Malachi Toney, Darian Mensah. So you watch them blitz Florida.
- 51:44Speaker 1: A & M tonight and I don't know how long
- 51:47Speaker 1: Malachi and Darian will play but I assume they will
- 51:51Speaker 1: put up massive numbers in that amount of time to
- 51:53Speaker 1: hold their spot one and two in the Heisman poll
- 51:56Speaker 1: at on three sports you know I did think it
- 51:58Speaker 1: was funny you guys uh busted my chops for uh
- 52:01Speaker 1: picking Arch Manning in my bold predictions my three guarantees
- 52:05Speaker 1: as the Heisman winner And you're like, oh, Brown picked
- 52:08Speaker 1: the favorite. Who's the favorite? It's Arch Manning. Brown picked
- 52:10Speaker 1: the favorite. He actually never even played a game as
- 52:12Speaker 1: the favorite because after that Friday, I don't know if
- 52:14Speaker 1: you saw this, but after that Friday night performance, I
- 52:17Speaker 1: think it was actually Darian Mensah that became the betting
- 52:20Speaker 1: favorite at places like Hard Rock Bet, among others. Mensah
- 52:24Speaker 1: actually became the favorite before Arch even got to play
- 52:26Speaker 1: a game. So Malachi Mensah, for those that are on
- 52:29Speaker 1: audio only. Trinidad from Ole Miss is three. Jeremiah Smith, four.
- 52:34Speaker 1: So two of the top four are wide receivers. Sam Leavitt, five.
- 52:37Speaker 1: And they're at six. Most of America don't know Super
- 52:41Speaker 1: Camario yet. Super Camario Taylor from Mississippi State, six right
- 52:46Speaker 1: now on the on three poll. Shrink it down to
- 52:48Speaker 1: make it harder. Dante Moore is seven. I got it.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Miava at USC is eight. The Pitt quarterback. Heichel. Mason Heichel.
- 53:01Speaker 1: And then Jaden Ball running back is number 10. That's
- 53:03Speaker 1: on three. Heisman weekly poll going into week number two.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I thought that was interesting, though, that Mensah so quickly
- 53:09Speaker 1: became the favorite just on that one performance at Stanford.
- 53:13Speaker 1: And he, by the way, he was fantastic. 27 of
- 53:16Speaker 1: 30 through for a ton of yards. Malachi Toney caught everything.
- 53:20Speaker 1: For sure, you know I've got great eyesight up to
- 53:22Speaker 1: five feet. When you squeeze that back with that TV
- 53:25Speaker 1: screen that is 10 feet away, meant a little harder.
- 53:28Speaker 6: I thought Brown was the one that really struggled to see.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Right there, I can't even. I could tell you it's
- 53:34Speaker 1: Malachi Tony only because you have his photo there. Other
- 53:36Speaker 1: than that, I don't even know what we're doing. When
- 53:38Speaker 1: we come back, a little NFL conversation. We'll unveil our
- 53:42Speaker 1: playoff picks. I will tell you there's nothing more topsy-turvy
- 53:47Speaker 1: than NFL playoffs year to year. A churning rate of
- 53:50Speaker 1: about 50% of new playoff teams every year. By the way,
- 53:54Speaker 1: we're getting to that in college football, which a lot
- 53:56Speaker 1: of people love. Unless you're a blue blood who used
- 53:59Speaker 1: to be in the playoffs and maybe hang those appearances
- 54:01Speaker 1: up now in your football building. When we come back,
- 54:03Speaker 1: hour two of the next round presented by Hard Rock
- 54:06Speaker 1: Bets on Sporting State.
