- 0:00Speaker 1: The voice that fights for New York literally. Curtis Leewalk
- 0:05Speaker 1: guest host for Mark Simone on sevent tenof Oh You
- 0:12Speaker 1: Don't want to miss It, as I was up in
- 0:16Speaker 1: the Capitol Land area for the Christmas holiday to be
- 0:21Speaker 1: with Nancy and her family members. Also is doing some
- 0:24Speaker 1: side work getting information about how the Republican leadership has
- 0:30Speaker 1: thrown the party under the bus, this time against Congresswoman
- 0:35Speaker 1: at least staphonic for Kathy the Grifter Hockel, who was
- 0:40Speaker 1: in New York City meeting with key Republicans, lining them
- 0:44Speaker 1: up because it's all about following the money. It's all
- 0:48Speaker 1: about follow the money. Oh, I learned a lot at
- 0:52Speaker 1: the Copper Crow right there on Broadway in Albany. Remember
- 0:55Speaker 1: as the crow flies cool and by the way, the
- 0:59Speaker 1: hawk's talking out there. So we'll talk about this hysteria
- 1:05Speaker 1: and fear and is sweeping the area because oh my god,
- 1:08Speaker 1: there might be six to eight ten inches maybe more
- 1:11Speaker 1: of snow. When I'm saying to myself, boy, it used
- 1:15Speaker 1: to be that all the time as we would approach
- 1:18Speaker 1: the new year. But let's go to the phones right now,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and it's Rob who's calling from Montclair, New Jersey. Your
- 1:26Speaker 1: turn to be heard? He on seven to ten wor Rob.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Hey, Curtis. During the campaign, I heard you maligned a lot,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and I told my friends, you know, I know one
- 1:39Speaker 2: thing about this guy, and it tells me everything about him.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I teach it a school when Montclair Montclair State University,
- 1:46Speaker 2: and many many years ago, you came with. I guess
- 1:49Speaker 2: it was a WABC basketball team to play the local people.
- 1:53Speaker 2: You probably don't even remember. Well, you got there really
- 1:57Speaker 2: early and I was going to teach a class and
- 1:59Speaker 2: I recognize and I said, Curtis, could you speak to
- 2:02Speaker 2: my class? You came, You spoke to him, You answered questions,
- 2:08Speaker 2: You were as sweet as kind as a person could be.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And that tells me everything I need to know about you.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Wow. And you remember, and I remember we got beat
- 2:17Speaker 1: badly the leader of the team at that point basketball
- 2:21Speaker 1: team because I was known for my sharp elbows. You
- 2:25Speaker 1: got into the paint. I was going to put a
- 2:27Speaker 1: herding on your kidneys and your ribs. Don't come into
- 2:31Speaker 1: the paint. You better be shooting from three point range.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Was Mitch Dolan, who was the general manager and Grandpoopa
- 2:40Speaker 1: of all the stations at that time over at WABC,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and that guy was a sharp shooter from the outside.
- 2:47Speaker 1: He used to call him, Hey, you know, he's like
- 2:50Speaker 1: the six man off the bench. He come in, boom in,
- 2:53Speaker 1: then knock a few back. Oh, I remember those memories.
- 2:57Speaker 1: That was good, Rob, that was good. Let's go if
- 3:01Speaker 1: we can to Ellen, who's calling also from New Jersey.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Your turn to be heard here at seven to ten
- 3:07Speaker 1: wor Ellen.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Hi, Curtis. I am so thrilled to speak with you,
- 3:12Speaker 3: and so thrilled that you're back on the air. I've
- 3:15Speaker 3: listened to you for so many years with Angels in
- 3:18Speaker 3: the Morning and Curtis and Coobe, and then of course
- 3:21Speaker 3: I got very little sleep because I was listening to
- 3:24Speaker 3: on the weekends overnight on that other station, in additional
- 3:28Speaker 3: listening to your friend Frank overnight also. But I wanted
- 3:32Speaker 3: to ask you something about your father. It's been bothering
- 3:36Speaker 3: me for years. Do you happen to know if your
- 3:38Speaker 3: father was a member of the National Maritime Union.
- 3:41Speaker 1: YEP for close to fifty years he was a delegate.
- 3:46Speaker 1: He would actually go to battle with the trustees and
- 3:52Speaker 1: the leader of the National Maritime Union who was corrupt
- 3:56Speaker 1: Joe Kern I know, and the.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Reason I'm asking it's because for years my father had
- 4:02Speaker 3: had a wholesale optical business, and then he lost it
- 4:08Speaker 3: and he wound up working for the National Maritime Union
- 4:11Speaker 3: in that building where all the seamen would comfort their
- 4:14Speaker 3: medical needs. And I worked there in the summers, so
- 4:17Speaker 3: chances are I saw you, I met your father.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah. And plus back then, you'd have to shape
- 4:22Speaker 1: up for work. So I'd go with my dad and
- 4:25Speaker 1: he'd have to shape up. He was a boson at
- 4:27Speaker 1: that time, which is like the equivalent of his sergeant.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You know, he's part of the union, National Maritime Union,
- 4:33Speaker 1: but really a part of management. Also you can't win
- 4:36Speaker 1: for it, and he'd have to shape up like everyone
- 4:39Speaker 1: else to catch a ship that was going out right
- 4:43Speaker 1: near fourteenth Street where you had the National Maritime Union headquarters.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And it's that building that makes it look like it's
- 4:50Speaker 1: the side of a passenger ship with all those odd windows.
- 4:55Speaker 1: No longer obviously National Maritime Union. But boy, tremendous story.
- 5:00Speaker 1: My dad would tell me when he would come home,
- 5:02Speaker 1: he'd be shipped out eight months a year, at home
- 5:04Speaker 1: four months a year, and to make ancillary income, he'd
- 5:09Speaker 1: go out there because he was a master craftsman, and
- 5:13Speaker 1: he worked for my cousin Joey g to teach from
- 5:15Speaker 1: Howard beat You at a construction firm in order so
- 5:19Speaker 1: that me, my older sister a leader, my younger sister
- 5:23Speaker 1: Maria to get all the things that we wanted or
- 5:26Speaker 1: didn't want, like my mother forcing me to play the
- 5:30Speaker 1: piano for four years. I hated that every second of
- 5:33Speaker 1: the day that I played. And then when it was
- 5:36Speaker 1: time for my recital at a nearby synagogue in KNARSI,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I was playing Rochmaninoff on the stage. My younger sister
- 5:44Speaker 1: Maria had played, made every mistake in the world, got
- 5:46Speaker 1: a standing ovation, didn't bother her. My oldest sister, a
- 5:50Speaker 1: very accomplished pianist, and I played Rockmano Norf. Halfway through
- 5:54Speaker 1: is He I forgot where I was. I walked away
- 5:57Speaker 1: from the piano and never came back to play the
- 6:00Speaker 1: piano again. I hated that my friends should be outside. Hey,
- 6:05Speaker 1: come on, Curtis, gotta practice Mike piano. Really, are you
- 6:12Speaker 1: a mama, Luke. Look as my mom and dad said,
- 6:16Speaker 1: as long as we pay the bills here and you're
- 6:18Speaker 1: living under our roof in our house, you'll follow our
- 6:22Speaker 1: rules or Hey, you're welcome to hit the highway out
- 6:25Speaker 1: there and see how difficult life is. Oh what what
- 6:29Speaker 1: great role models they were. They're no longer with us anyway.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Let's go to Glenn, who's calling from New Jersey. Your
- 6:38Speaker 1: turn to be heard here on seven ten.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Wo Arglene, Hey, Goodbry Curtis over at the other station there, hre.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Greg Kelly has been disparaging you incredible for the first
- 6:52Speaker 4: hour of his show. He spoke nothing about anything but
- 6:59Speaker 4: Curtis and Curtis, Curtis and so forth. He's a loser.
- 7:05Speaker 4: And I had to call in and tell and tell
- 7:09Speaker 4: Greg that he and w R O you a bet
- 7:15Speaker 4: a gratitude for giving one hour of free publicity because
- 7:20Speaker 4: I mentioned to him two quotes. T. T. Bonham said, famously,
- 7:26Speaker 4: any publicity is good publicity, and Oscar Wilde said the
- 7:31Speaker 4: only thing in the world worse than being talked about
- 7:34Speaker 4: is not being talked about.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Well, I gotta tell you, Glenn, so you know, Greg
- 7:39Speaker 1: Kelly never comes prepared for a show. That's why you
- 7:43Speaker 1: would listen to Mark Simon. That would be his show prep.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You would actually admit that I'm listening to Mark and
- 7:47Speaker 1: then taking notes he has no mark to listen to.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He hates listening to me, and it gives him something
- 7:54Speaker 1: to talk about because he'd always run out of steam.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That's why they had me in the bullpen. You better
- 7:59Speaker 1: jump in there with he's rowing. He's running out of
- 8:03Speaker 1: things to talk about because he didn't do his show prep.
- 8:07Speaker 1: You just don't come on the air and think think
- 8:10Speaker 1: you're gonna be able to do talk radio. Oh no, oh,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Bob by the way suggesting for me by a work
- 8:15Speaker 1: crew at the MDA coming up. You're never gonna Oh yes,
- 8:19Speaker 1: you might actually conceive of this. You don't want to
- 8:22Speaker 1: go anywhere, And I'll tell you the true nitty gritty
- 8:25Speaker 1: secret of what's going on behind the scenes as the
- 8:29Speaker 1: Republican leadership in New York State now as they did
- 8:32Speaker 1: in New York City, are selling out to moderate Democrats,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and they did it against elistophonic
