- 0:06Speaker 1: Head folks, Welcome into the Irish Steelers Podcast, the podcast
- 0:09Speaker 1: for Pittsburgh Steeters fans on the Island. Barlin, Michael McQuaid
- 0:13Speaker 1: delighted to be joined by Dave McKee. Dave, how were
- 0:16Speaker 1: doing another week of preseason Diamond, We're getting closer.
- 0:19Speaker 2: II Field been good, Mike, Yeah, that's up basically cutting
- 0:24Speaker 2: down the days in the weeks now. Obviously last night
- 0:27Speaker 2: was another opportunity to watch them and you know, sort
- 0:30Speaker 2: of get a good sense of what was going on.
- 0:32Speaker 2: But no, I'm sort of like yourself of this rate.
- 0:35Speaker 2: We'll get the next couple of weeks down and before
- 0:37Speaker 2: you know it's where we watched the Staters football regular season.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So it makes it so much easier when you see
- 0:41Speaker 1: a big slaunching matches pop up on the telecast, which
- 0:44Speaker 1: was on Virgin Media, so shout out to them. The
- 0:46Speaker 1: second of Fleet preseason games on Virgin Media last night,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and and the last one against the Lions I believe
- 0:52Speaker 1: is all next week. We'll talk about that in a bit.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Jimmy is not here my electric folks. My WiFi was
- 0:58Speaker 1: not working this morning, so apology to shout out the
- 1:00Speaker 1: Jimmy as well. Have obviously breaking the down Steelers losing
- 1:06Speaker 1: a preseason game against the Bills nine to three, falling
- 1:10Speaker 1: to zero and two in the preseason, the Bills actually
- 1:12Speaker 1: improved the one on one. Have you any immediate takeaways
- 1:15Speaker 1: from that?
- 1:16Speaker 2: You know, it wasn't a great performance less you know,
- 1:18Speaker 2: there's no point in painting it over. I mean, an
- 1:21Speaker 2: opportunity to watch the Steelers and an occasion is great,
- 1:23Speaker 2: but that game was nothing the head home about. You know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: it's a game that will fade quickly into the best
- 1:28Speaker 2: as far as I'm concerned. And to be fair of
- 1:30Speaker 2: the Bills, you know their past Russ is no choke.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It was good to see, you know, a few old
- 1:34Speaker 2: faces on the other side, Mitch Trubscue, but all honestly
- 1:37Speaker 2: make gets. It was one I was struggling to stay
- 1:39Speaker 2: up for. Good to see Russell Wilson and the Black
- 1:42Speaker 2: and Gold. Eight out of ten, forty seven yards, no touchdowns,
- 1:45Speaker 2: no pecks. Pretty ovious performance. But it doesn't doesn't have
- 1:48Speaker 2: to be great for you know, for our first time
- 1:50Speaker 2: in pods. Got to say a bit more. Justin Phils
- 1:52Speaker 2: lapping for seventeen ninety two yards. Had a big game
- 1:55Speaker 2: on the ground as well, of course, we knowbody brings
- 1:56Speaker 2: to the table, he's gonna he's gonna bring a lot
- 1:58Speaker 2: of scrambling and outside the pot. Had one really nice
- 2:01Speaker 2: completion I think where he skipped, you know, the sack
- 2:03Speaker 2: found desk with Patrick on the key completion on third down.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Shout out to my guy neck Kurbig as well came
- 2:08Speaker 2: up with a sack on on Metsch as well. We
- 2:10Speaker 2: all know how early in the game. We all know
- 2:14Speaker 2: how much I love neck Krbig. You know he's already
- 2:16Speaker 2: asking for licendary status in Petsburgh as far as I'm concerned.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But overall, Michael, it's it's hard the right home and anything,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and I'm just waiting for week one at this rice.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Of course, we've got one more week against the Detroit Lance,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you know, a team that I'm pecking't actually to do
- 2:28Speaker 2: the Super Bowl this year, albeit to hope we're We're
- 2:31Speaker 2: going to be a team that'll that will play them
- 2:32Speaker 2: and hopefully beat them, but at least well we'll get
- 2:35Speaker 2: a chance to score with another top class opponents. So
- 2:38Speaker 2: roll on next week and you know, if we if
- 2:40Speaker 2: we win, great, If not, you know, we I think
- 2:42Speaker 2: we finished the pre season three and oh, last year
- 2:44Speaker 2: and we didn't win the Super Bowl. So it doesn't
- 2:46Speaker 2: mean of course it means something. It's a big getting
- 2:48Speaker 2: the medicine, the Hank, but it doesn't mean anything realistically.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Absolutely, and look sort of going on Nick, her big need,
- 2:54Speaker 1: her big, it seems is going to be had for
- 2:56Speaker 1: a while. So you know, obviously with him the best.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Were you to see Nick Helples like your game last night.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I am very much as well in the camp of
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, it's a preseason, it's not the super Bowl.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Obviously you want to get every rap under you and
- 3:07Speaker 1: get as much experience as you can. But at the
- 3:09Speaker 1: end of the day, this is the team that's learning.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And I've seen some things this morning where people are
- 3:14Speaker 1: talking about the offense with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I guess we'll talk about in a few minutes. And
- 3:21Speaker 1: before we do that, let's hear from coach Mike Pomlin.
- 3:24Speaker 1: After yesterday's result.
- 3:26Speaker 3: You know, still not what we're looking for. It was
- 3:29Speaker 3: better in some areas, but still JV and too many others.
- 3:35Speaker 3: An area of improvement I thought was net punting. The
- 3:38Speaker 3: field position component of play got flipped this time around.
- 3:41Speaker 3: We're much better in this game than we were in
- 3:43Speaker 3: the last one. Still not winning enough possession downs on offense,
- 3:47Speaker 3: particularly early in an effort to establish rhythm and gain
- 3:50Speaker 3: plays and develop personality and so forth. When you're not
- 3:54Speaker 3: winning possession downs at the early portions of the game,
- 3:57Speaker 3: all of those things really get steamy. Included in that,
- 4:00Speaker 3: but also separate from that. I just thought we did
- 4:03Speaker 3: we didn't do a good enough job of protecting the quarterback.
- 4:05Speaker 3: We got to do a better job in past protection
- 4:08Speaker 3: than we did, not only in possession downs, but just
- 4:11Speaker 3: in general. And I was really upfront with the group
- 4:13Speaker 3: about it in that regard that can't be a problem
- 4:16Speaker 3: for us. We got to be better than we were
- 4:18Speaker 3: tonight in that area. On defense, particularly in the second half,
- 4:22Speaker 3: I thought our young people wore down some. They were
- 4:26Speaker 3: able to control the game and minimize our opportunities because
- 4:30Speaker 3: they were running the football. Some our secondary people in
- 4:34Speaker 3: the in the crack replaced gaps and so forth. You
- 4:37Speaker 3: don't have a chance to have really good run defense
- 4:39Speaker 3: unless your secondary people are really on it. I thought,
- 4:42Speaker 3: I thought we had a lot of area for improvement,
- 4:44Speaker 3: particularly in the second half, in terms of some of
- 4:47Speaker 3: those things. And that's why their run total was what
- 4:49Speaker 3: it was and and really limited some of our possession
- 4:52Speaker 3: opportunities in the second half. But we'll meet tomorrow, man,
- 4:57Speaker 3: we'll comb through it in great detail. That's just a
- 4:59Speaker 3: need your assessment of some things. From a health standpoint.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Jalen Warren had a hamstring in game. I don't know
- 5:06Speaker 3: the extent of it. He'll be evaluated. I'll have more
- 5:09Speaker 3: information for you obviously over the next couple of days.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Peyton Wilson was being treated for a concussion. Anthony Everett
- 5:18Speaker 3: had a hamstring as well some other bumps and bruises.
- 5:21Speaker 3: But I think in most instances those guys return to play.
- 5:25Speaker 3: But again, I'll have more detail for you next time
- 5:28Speaker 3: we come together around the health of some people's kind
- 5:32Speaker 3: of limited opportunities.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And it's a pre season, but would you like to
- 5:36Speaker 4: see your first team offense producing points?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Absolutely? You know, in order to do that, you gotta
- 5:42Speaker 3: win possession downs, and we're just not winning enough of
- 5:45Speaker 3: those right now. And so you know that problem.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Lingers coach Tomlin on the Iris Hitters podcast, And do
- 5:54Speaker 1: you before you listen to some of the players' reactions
- 5:56Speaker 1: to the scheme, you know this is a team and
- 5:58Speaker 1: I really like our quarterback the minute. In terms of
- 6:01Speaker 1: that combination of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as the
- 6:03Speaker 1: top two there, I like the fact that they are
- 6:07Speaker 1: there and they're going to grow this season. We know
- 6:09Speaker 1: the story, but now it's been told so many times
- 6:11Speaker 1: that Russell Wilson comes out of Denver, improved in his
- 6:15Speaker 1: last season in Denver and now has in my opinion,
- 6:18Speaker 1: an opportunity of a lifetime in Pittsburgh. And then Justin Fields,
- 6:21Speaker 1: a guy in my opinion that was not respected no
- 6:23Speaker 1: of Chicago, now has that opportunity as well. They've got
- 6:26Speaker 1: a brand new See, it's gonna take time to bet
- 6:29Speaker 1: in like we're talking about potentially, you know, you're seeing
- 6:31Speaker 1: reports of them scrapping the preseason entirely and focusing them
- 6:35Speaker 1: more on scrimmages and team and teams in different camps. Well,
- 6:39Speaker 1: last night, in my opinion, it was an example of
- 6:41Speaker 1: why you need the preseason. You need these guys to
- 6:43Speaker 1: go out and get represent you know, certainly for me,
- 6:46Speaker 1: I agree that of course you want to see and
- 6:48Speaker 1: improving on the offense. You want to see the offense
- 6:51Speaker 1: work better, but it's gonna take time. I'd much rather
- 6:54Speaker 1: get a win week one than worry about week two
- 6:57Speaker 1: or weeks three preseason. For me right now, it's see
- 7:00Speaker 1: these guys, see these players, see what they have to offer,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and then you know, anything else the buonuts.
- 7:04Speaker 2: No, you're you're spot on. I mean I was. I
- 7:07Speaker 2: was sort of reading some of the comments this morning
- 7:08Speaker 2: as well, and you know, there's a lot of over exaggeration.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But as you say, we've got a new offensive coordinator,
- 7:14Speaker 2: he's still sort of embedding himself into that position offensively.
- 7:19Speaker 2: You know that with the schemes and stuff like that,
- 7:21Speaker 2: you'll expect, you know, justin Field and Russell Wilson when
- 7:23Speaker 2: the regular season comes, they're going to be well under
- 7:25Speaker 2: their progressions as well. And it's gonna be one of
- 7:27Speaker 2: those where they don't have to They're gonna have to adopt
- 7:29Speaker 2: it the same as anything. You know, you're gonna have
- 7:30Speaker 2: to adopt these changes. But I'm going to sort of
- 7:34Speaker 2: just back up everything you said there. You know, the
- 7:35Speaker 2: preseason is just an important time where you get obviously
- 7:38Speaker 2: the new guys in the roster coming in playing their
- 7:40Speaker 2: own snops as well. It's it's not a time to
- 7:43Speaker 2: sort of over exaggerate and you know, panic And as
- 7:46Speaker 2: I said there a couple of minutes ago, we get
- 7:48Speaker 2: finished three and over the preseason. Last year, we came
- 7:50Speaker 2: out of preseason thinking we're the best team in the world,
- 7:53Speaker 2: you know, the greatest team ever, and it just doesn't
- 7:55Speaker 2: work like that. So I'm just gonna yeah, next who
- 7:59Speaker 2: knows next time. But and yeah, Rome wasn't building the
- 8:03Speaker 2: day that. I was saying like, it's it's going to
- 8:05Speaker 2: take time for this to work out, and yeah, that's
- 8:08Speaker 2: preseason is important. I'm just going to back you up
- 8:10Speaker 2: on that one as well. You know, they're talking about
- 8:12Speaker 2: scrapping the preseason, but actually, I don't want to see that.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I think it's important that we get guys in early
- 8:17Speaker 2: and obviously getting their game time before for that week one.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So I don't know, I really know what they would
- 8:21Speaker 2: fill that void with. I don't know if you have
- 8:23Speaker 2: any opinions in that, like what what do you think
- 8:24Speaker 2: they would even fill it with.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I see and this is just our sort of talk.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's it's obviously not official, but you see it on
- 8:29Speaker 1: various different shows during the week where they're talking about maybe,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you know, changing up the preseason, and I guess team
- 8:35Speaker 1: scrimmage is a big one we've seen this week with
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Bills and seems to be you know, good feedback
- 8:41Speaker 1: coming out of that from from both sides that they
- 8:43Speaker 1: really enjoyed their time there. That's not something that happens
- 8:46Speaker 1: with the Stags year on year deal. And you know,
- 8:47Speaker 1: it's if it's going to become the new norm where
- 8:50Speaker 1: you are getting those guys to visit and you're you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: you're you're looking at those different reps, they become key
- 8:56Speaker 1: and they almost turn into like a mini preseason by themselves. Look,
- 9:00Speaker 1: we all just want to see more football and not
- 9:01Speaker 1: the thing before we talk about the QBS very quickly
- 9:04Speaker 1: that's here from Russellosi.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Well, we always want to win. I mean, I think
- 9:08Speaker 5: that's the you know, that's our mission every time. Obviously
- 9:10Speaker 5: we didn't get to do it tonight. You know, it
- 9:12Speaker 5: was good to be in the black and gold, you know,
- 9:14Speaker 5: just to have the honor to wear the jersey and
- 9:17Speaker 5: to be out there with with with with our teammates. Man,
- 9:19Speaker 5: it's just it's a blessing for sure, you know. And
- 9:22Speaker 5: just to be in the stadium again and playing, putting
- 9:25Speaker 5: my cleats on it and getting ready to go but
- 9:28Speaker 5: we always want to be able to step on the
- 9:30Speaker 5: fielding on the white lines and find a way to win.
- 9:32Speaker 5: We didn't get to do that tonight.
- 9:33Speaker 4: I know it's limited opportunities and it's just a preseason,
- 9:36Speaker 4: but would you like to see the first team offense
- 9:39Speaker 4: score more points because you have I don't think you
- 9:41Speaker 4: have in two games.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think I think for us, you
- 9:44Speaker 5: know today, you know, we just stayed on schedule. I
- 9:46Speaker 5: think the biggest thing is staying on schedule. We had
- 9:49Speaker 5: too many I think we had too many third and longs,
- 9:51Speaker 5: you know, you know in the first two drives, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 5: in particular, and we did some good things on offense,
- 9:58Speaker 5: you know, but at the same time, we just got
- 9:59Speaker 5: to give ourselves the best chance possible to be successful.
- 10:03Speaker 5: And that's that's uh, third and shorts and third and mediums,
- 10:05Speaker 5: and we you know, we we converted you know in
- 10:07Speaker 5: one you know, one of those you know later in
- 10:09Speaker 5: the in the in the first second quarter or whatever
- 10:12Speaker 5: it was. And Van did a good job sitting over
- 10:14Speaker 5: the middle. But I think I think the best thing
- 10:16Speaker 5: we can do is it put our heads down and
- 10:17Speaker 5: keep getting to work.
- 10:20Speaker 6: I know it may not have been obviously, danversall that
- 10:23Speaker 6: you are looking for, But for you in the first half,
- 10:25Speaker 6: were the thing that you didn't like in positives?
- 10:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought I was trying to play in rhythm,
- 10:29Speaker 5: trying to get the ball out when we could, and
- 10:31Speaker 5: then and then uh, also just trying to hang in
- 10:33Speaker 5: there and the third down, like I mentioned earlier, the
- 10:35Speaker 5: van you know, those those plays, he did a good job.
- 10:38Speaker 5: GP did a really good job in his choice route.
- 10:40Speaker 5: We thought he was in on that go ball. You know, Uh,
- 10:43Speaker 5: that was a sweet catch, but you know, I thought
- 10:46Speaker 5: he'd double toe taped that one. But you know, I
- 10:49Speaker 5: think I think the best thing that we can do
- 10:51Speaker 5: is you know, the best part about you know, it's
- 10:55Speaker 5: in my thirteenth year, you know, and every preseason is different.
- 10:59Speaker 5: You know, it's as high, there's lows, there's you know,
- 11:01Speaker 5: you have great practices, which we have a lot of.
- 11:03Speaker 5: We've had a lot of lows. Guys have been working
- 11:05Speaker 5: their tails off every day. We had a great practice
- 11:07Speaker 5: on Thursday whenever it was So there're a lot of
- 11:10Speaker 5: good that goes unseen sometimes and there's some things that
- 11:14Speaker 5: we also have to fix and get right. And so
- 11:17Speaker 5: that's the diligence that we have to have. We have
- 11:18Speaker 5: a sense of urgency, you know, every week, every every
- 11:22Speaker 5: day you step into the into the building, every day
- 11:24Speaker 5: you step into the white lines. And that's what we're
- 11:26Speaker 5: gonna do.
- 11:27Speaker 7: The biggest thing that's getting in the way right now,
- 11:29Speaker 7: it's just it's just the chemistry. And you guys have
- 11:31Speaker 7: a lot of guys on rookie contracts on the offense
- 11:34Speaker 7: and in trying to get you guys together. You think
- 11:37Speaker 7: that's the biggest impediment right now.
- 11:39Speaker 5: No, I don't. I don't think.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Uh.
- 11:41Speaker 5: I think the best thing we can do is just
- 11:42Speaker 5: stay on schedule. Yeah, I think that's the biggest ants.
- 11:45Speaker 5: That's football, no matter you know, if you have you know,
- 11:47Speaker 5: all vets and all you know, all rookies. I think
- 11:49Speaker 5: just think that the reality is that you got to
- 11:51Speaker 5: stay on schedule in this game, you know, And that's
- 11:53Speaker 5: that's the biggest thing. You don't want to be in
- 11:55Speaker 5: third and longs, you know, from for a good amount
- 11:57Speaker 5: of the game. So we just got to do that
- 11:59Speaker 5: better and I think we'll give ourselves a better chance.
- 12:02Speaker 7: We said in the locker room that you got to
- 12:03Speaker 7: feel like you guys are making really good progress right now.
- 12:06Speaker 7: Do you agree with that assessment.
- 12:08Speaker 3: From I do?
- 12:09Speaker 5: I mean, I just, you know, the practices, the things
- 12:13Speaker 5: that we do, the extra work the guys, the amount
- 12:16Speaker 5: of time guys are spending. You know, it's I'm really
- 12:18Speaker 5: excited about this football team. I really am. I just
- 12:21Speaker 5: you know, you can't blank and I you know at
- 12:24Speaker 5: uh you know, you know, they all matter, They all matter,
- 12:27Speaker 5: They always matter. Every game matters, every time you know,
- 12:30Speaker 5: the balls kicked off, it matters. But also understand, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 5: to to process, to understand what we're doing really really well,
- 12:38Speaker 5: and then continue to do those things, and then the
- 12:40Speaker 5: things we're not not doing so well, let's fix them
- 12:42Speaker 5: and then and then then then you give yourselves the
- 12:44Speaker 5: best chance. But you can't run from uh, you know,
- 12:46Speaker 5: fixing the little details and and so you know work.
- 12:49Speaker 5: We're closer than we know. I think, you know, to
- 12:51Speaker 5: be honest with you, I think that uh, you know,
- 12:54Speaker 5: I just I really love the work ethic of the
- 12:57Speaker 5: guys that we have. You know you mentioned Pat Fryermouth.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I mean just the detail that he puts into it.
- 13:02Speaker 5: GP obviously such a special player. Calvin Van has really
- 13:06Speaker 5: risen up to the casion on love Scotty Miller. Obviously,
- 13:09Speaker 5: our backs or physicals can be you know. And I
- 13:12Speaker 5: think I think of our offensive line. You know, we're
- 13:14Speaker 5: young but talented, and I think that's a that's a
- 13:16Speaker 5: great thing to have. So guys have a one two
- 13:18Speaker 5: and we have that, and then obviously we have a
- 13:20Speaker 5: great defense. So I think that the best thing that
- 13:22Speaker 5: we can do is look at the film, study it.
- 13:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 13:25Speaker 5: I'm just grateful to you know, every time I get
- 13:27Speaker 5: to play this game. Man, there's just so much gratitude
- 13:29Speaker 5: and enjoy, you know.
- 13:31Speaker 4: For me.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Russell Wilson on the Irish Theaters podcast. One of the
- 13:35Speaker 1: biggest takeaways for me, Dave is obviously Wilson had that
- 13:40Speaker 1: slight injury just before training comes starting at He injured
- 13:43Speaker 1: his cough, I believe. And the biggest takeaway from me,
- 13:47Speaker 1: well eighty percent the completion we had last night. Anyway
- 13:50Speaker 1: you look at it in terms of the stots, but
- 13:52Speaker 1: he said he felt graty, felt strong, and he feels
- 13:55Speaker 1: like he sort of got past that injury immediately. When
- 13:58Speaker 1: you're looking at a situation when you the game in
- 14:00Speaker 1: two or three weeks time, that's what Staters Nation wants
- 14:03Speaker 1: to hear and we hope to see, you know, depending
- 14:05Speaker 1: on whether they play next week or not. You know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: a bit of movement there in terms of starting. It'll
- 14:10Speaker 1: be interesting to see what happens.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Just on Russ as well. I've sort of been following
- 14:14Speaker 2: his Instagram stories as well. He's putting in the arts
- 14:16Speaker 2: and training ground, you can see it, and he does.
- 14:19Speaker 2: He looks he looks a lot better this year than
- 14:21Speaker 2: he did last year, you know, at the stage of
- 14:23Speaker 2: sect then a year older. So I'm really excited to
- 14:26Speaker 2: see how he goes. You know, I think there is
- 14:28Speaker 2: already talk about potentially. I mean, it just shows how
- 14:31Speaker 2: really over exaggerating sports fans are. You know, they'll see
- 14:34Speaker 2: thing and they'll just say, oh, we need to change it.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And I'm already seeing people saying, look, Justin Fields needs
- 14:38Speaker 2: to be the number one. I still have Russ down
- 14:40Speaker 2: as my number one going in the week one. I
- 14:42Speaker 2: think we still need to give him a chance. Albeit,
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know, Justin Fields has been impressing, but I'm liking
- 14:48Speaker 2: how he's looking so far. As I say, it's going
- 14:51Speaker 2: to take a bit of time for him to adjust
- 14:53Speaker 2: to the offense. We've got a couple of key targets
- 14:56Speaker 2: as well that are coming back, you know, a couple
- 14:58Speaker 2: of injuries from from the offseason as well. So I'm
- 15:02Speaker 2: just I'm ready just to see a bit, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I'm ready to say that out like in competitive football,
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's what I'm ready to say. So we can just
- 15:09Speaker 2: get this week, you know, put this week in the
- 15:11Speaker 2: in the back window and the in the backside, and
- 15:14Speaker 2: I think after next week, you know, we'll know fully
- 15:17Speaker 2: now where we are and what we are and who knows,
- 15:20Speaker 2: you know, what what happens with you know, free agency.
- 15:22Speaker 2: You know, there's a lot of talk about that, but
- 15:24Speaker 2: we've just got a sort of knuckle down and deal
- 15:27Speaker 2: with the guys we've got.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I will tell in terms of all that stuff, we've
- 15:30Speaker 1: seen coach Thomland talk about the need for protecting the
- 15:33Speaker 1: quarterback better and now something that's going to take time,
- 15:35Speaker 1: hopefully over the next few weeks. So we get ironed
- 15:37Speaker 1: out and fully gone there and let's see what happens.
- 15:40Speaker 1: There was a really great play in the fourth quarter
- 15:42Speaker 1: when fields had a lot of pressure, find the way
- 15:44Speaker 1: to get out of the pocket, make a run and
- 15:46Speaker 1: get a pass down the field. It'll be interesting to
- 15:49Speaker 1: see how that develops over time, but I think a
- 15:51Speaker 1: bottle like that is healthy. You've got a Super Bowl champion,
- 15:55Speaker 1: albeit a few years ago. Now when Russell Wilson, a
- 15:57Speaker 1: guy that is determined justin fields, is probably one of
- 16:00Speaker 1: the most motivated guys in this league in terms of
- 16:02Speaker 1: where he is right now, he's probably watching Killer Williams
- 16:05Speaker 1: in Chicago's thinking of himself. I'm as good as, if
- 16:08Speaker 1: not better than that. So I can't wait to see
- 16:09Speaker 1: what's gonna happen. Just before we go there, let's hear
- 16:12Speaker 1: from your guy to Herbert.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Said one does that show that the body? Then when
- 16:17Speaker 4: coach Commins says the strength of the back is the
- 16:19Speaker 4: back because you finished off what it looked like LARRYO
- 16:22Speaker 4: and Key maybe it started.
- 16:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean LARRYO got there first, and then I
- 16:26Speaker 6: was there next, and he was starting to slip out
- 16:28Speaker 6: a little, and then Keanu came over the top and
- 16:30Speaker 6: finished some Uh. So I think that's just a perfect
- 16:32Speaker 6: picture of what we are in Pittsburgh. We're striving to
- 16:35Speaker 6: be and that's collective that's aiming to do something great here.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Technical rookie, last year, you had several different moves. You
- 16:42Speaker 7: seem like you could talk through them and think through
- 16:45Speaker 7: them a lot. What things are you able to see
- 16:47Speaker 7: now this year that you maybe didn't see the last year.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I think just recognizing like alignments and pre snap things, uh,
- 16:54Speaker 6: you know, stuff I wasn't keen to h last year.
- 16:57Speaker 6: And I think that just uh that's coaching and being
- 16:59Speaker 6: around guys like TJ Alex, you know, and seeing how
- 17:03Speaker 6: they go about their business and just trying to take
- 17:05Speaker 6: mental notes of that day.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Marcus Golden was was here and that he's out already.
- 17:10Speaker 7: I mean, how ready do you feel to step into
- 17:12Speaker 7: that role, especially knowing that there's all a kind of
- 17:13Speaker 7: experience even behind.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You at this point.
- 17:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I think there there's never gonna be
- 17:18Speaker 6: a true time when you're like okay, like I'm ready,
- 17:21Speaker 6: Like I mean, it's when the lights come on, you
- 17:23Speaker 6: gotta show up, So you just gotta stay ready so
- 17:25Speaker 6: you don't got to get ready.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Tomlin gave you what mister Herbig to night as you
- 17:31Speaker 4: came off the field.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Yeah, that's probably like top five best feelings in the world,
- 17:35Speaker 6: I'd say.
- 17:37Speaker 2: After two games. So it's the feeling from the defensive
- 17:40Speaker 2: side of how you guys an execute.
- 17:42Speaker 6: There's a lot of lot of good stuff on tape,
- 17:44Speaker 6: a lot of stuff that we need to clean up,
- 17:46Speaker 6: you know, uh, need to be better on the on
- 17:48Speaker 6: the edges, need to be better at tackling, wrapping up,
- 17:51Speaker 6: getting the whole gang to the ball. So there's obviously
- 17:54Speaker 6: ups and downs, but not like we're we're trending.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Good to hear from her, big deal of like every
- 18:01Speaker 1: time you hear that month speaking most of a smile
- 18:03Speaker 1: on your face.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, of course, Mac, he's he's one of
- 18:09Speaker 2: a kind already, and he's following TJ. If t J
- 18:12Speaker 2: wats footsteps. I can tell came up with a big
- 18:14Speaker 2: sack last night. I think it was maybe a bit
- 18:16Speaker 2: more motivated because he was playing a quarterback and we
- 18:19Speaker 2: sacked him probably a lot and and and and OTAs
- 18:22Speaker 2: and stuff last year. So yeah, I'm buzzing for him.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Hopefully it gets a bit of a bit of a
- 18:27Speaker 2: better opportunity this year. I mean, who knows, with injuries
- 18:30Speaker 2: and stuff. Injuries happen in this league, and if it does,
- 18:32Speaker 2: I know he'll definitely stop up. So yeah, it's it's
- 18:36Speaker 2: it's it's good to hear from him, And of course
- 18:38Speaker 2: I'm sure he's chomping at the bit for a week
- 18:40Speaker 2: one as well at this threat.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And definitely a more you know, it's it's a full
- 18:44Speaker 1: on schedule in that second half as well, so I'm
- 18:46Speaker 1: sure there may be opportunities firms, So we will see
- 18:48Speaker 1: what happens there in that sense. Just before we go
- 18:51Speaker 1: the game next week, we will try and get a
- 18:53Speaker 1: podcast in the middle of the week, so to do
- 18:54Speaker 1: that as a your questions, use hashtag Steeters Ireland or
- 18:57Speaker 1: shout out to one of us in social media with
- 18:58Speaker 1: questions and we'll be sure to get the more on
- 19:00Speaker 1: that MIDWEK podcast and Saturday six o'clock Ireland Virgin Media
- 19:04Speaker 1: to OTB Radio head to Detroit, first away trip of
- 19:08Speaker 1: this season, final preseason game. Again it's a Lion's team.
- 19:12Speaker 1: The third game is always a bit different there and
- 19:15Speaker 1: we don't really know what to expect at this point,
- 19:18Speaker 1: come in a week beforehand. What would you like to
- 19:20Speaker 1: see generally in terms of that last game for me
- 19:22Speaker 1: is just get the reps, get everybody out healthy, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: then take that two weeks.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Absolutely, get get everybody out healthy. And I said it
- 19:29Speaker 2: last week and I've said it again. That's the most
- 19:32Speaker 2: important thing of course, getting competitive snaps is good, but
- 19:35Speaker 2: we've got to get everybody out half. Hi mean, the
- 19:37Speaker 2: last thing you want is a key injury in week
- 19:39Speaker 2: three of the preseason. You're sort of thinking yourself, you know,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I don't really I don't really see many of the
- 19:45Speaker 2: stars getting much more attention to it. But yeah, I'm
- 19:48Speaker 2: that's what I want to see. No injuries, a bit
- 19:51Speaker 2: maybe a bit more you know, offensive creativity. You know,
- 19:54Speaker 2: Arthur Schmith, he's got two weeks now to look at
- 19:56Speaker 2: us and and hopefully drop something new, whether it comes
- 19:59Speaker 2: or not. I mean, just the offensive line maybe wasn't
- 20:03Speaker 2: including last week. Last week, I hadn't said that the
- 20:05Speaker 2: Bill's pass rush is pretty serious. So that's what I
- 20:08Speaker 2: want to say. I just want to see a bit
- 20:09Speaker 2: more you know, aggression maybe you know, on not offensive line.
- 20:13Speaker 2: But as I said, the main thing is no injuries,
- 20:16Speaker 2: and if we go into Week one injury free, ready
- 20:19Speaker 2: to travel to Atlanta and hopefully get the win. That's
- 20:22Speaker 2: the main thing. So that's really what I want to say.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I love it, And please, folks, do let us know
- 20:26Speaker 1: your thoughts, your opinions on the season this preseason, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: we will get back to you ahead of the game
- 20:31Speaker 1: next week, six o'clock Saturday against the Lions. From now,
- 20:34Speaker 1: from me and
