- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to another addition of Cardinal Territory.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Jim Hays alongside and angry Kyle Gibson and Lance Linn
- 0:17Speaker 1: is with us also, and Kyle, you're upset with me,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Just let's get it out of the way.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if we're being fully transparent here, this
- 0:25Speaker 2: show is revolving around our host today. You know your
- 0:27Speaker 2: internet was struggling. I was perfectly set up on my iPad,
- 0:31Speaker 2: which only works half the time here for some reason
- 0:33Speaker 2: on the show, and I'm here, good looking, clear, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: you were all fuzzy, and as soon as you left
- 0:40Speaker 2: and came back, I was gone. And I'm now, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 2: doing this on my iPhone that's not an updated iPhone,
- 0:48Speaker 2: which is my fault. Lance will yell at me for that,
- 0:50Speaker 2: But I mean here I am staring at a tiny
- 0:52Speaker 2: screen and seat of my eyepad. So yeah, I'm but
- 0:55Speaker 2: I feel better now. Thank you for letting me get
- 0:56Speaker 2: that out of the way.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Lance, You're an honest, be honest. Hasn't my internet, my
- 1:03Speaker 1: home internet, been pretty consistent for as long as we've
- 1:07Speaker 1: been doing this.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what happened with you today, but
- 1:10Speaker 3: then you ruin the rest of the feed when you
- 1:13Speaker 3: when you bugged out those. So I think that we're
- 1:15Speaker 3: starting to feel like you if it's yours, isn't perfect.
- 1:17Speaker 4: You block everyone else out, so we'll figure it out.
- 1:20Speaker 1: To look, let's face.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You look, you look great. Thanks for dressing up for
- 1:26Speaker 2: us today. Appreciate that.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want to make sure everyone sees that
- 1:31Speaker 1: it's not a clip on, it's a real one. Hey.
- 1:33Speaker 1: By the way, if you like this sort of nonsense,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you like Cardinal Territory, and you haven't subscribed, we invite
- 1:39Speaker 1: you to go ahead and hit that button and subscribe.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And as cal Gibson has rightfully pointed out, if you've
- 1:44Speaker 1: already subscribed, and maybe you have a friend or two
- 1:47Speaker 1: friends that don't know about us, tell them about Cardinal
- 1:50Speaker 1: Territory and get them to describe subscribe because we're trying
- 1:53Speaker 1: to get the seven K and it's a bit of
- 1:55Speaker 1: a slot, so help us get there. All right, gentlemen,
- 1:59Speaker 1: we have a lot to talk about in Cardinal Territory.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I guess some good, some not so good. But the
- 2:05Speaker 1: one thing that's been good NonStop, and now what's beyond
- 2:10Speaker 1: good is Jordan Walker. And Jordan Walker has seven homers.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I wrote some stats down, but he's been crazy good
- 2:23Speaker 1: homers in six of his last eight games, three twenty
- 2:26Speaker 1: seven batting average. If you look at exit velo and
- 2:30Speaker 1: some of the other stats out there about percentage of barrels,
- 2:35Speaker 1: he's either two or three and everything. He is killing
- 2:37Speaker 1: the baseball. So I'm just gonna throw it out there,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and Kyle Son's you're the angriest.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I'll go to you first.
- 2:43Speaker 1: What are you seeing from Jordan Walker?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Oh Man, has you know not given me the up
- 2:47Speaker 2: to the answer first? Jim, I was gonna. I was
- 2:49Speaker 2: gonna let you have it. So I'm glad you did.
- 2:52Speaker 2: What am I saying from Jordan Walker? I think confidence
- 2:55Speaker 2: is a huge thing. I think he feels really good
- 2:58Speaker 2: with his approach and where he's at right now, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: I think that is also a huge thing. And from
- 3:04Speaker 2: the swings that I've seen, I like what I see.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I like some of the changes that he's been working on.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I obviously I don't know what he's been working on
- 3:15Speaker 2: in particular right the ins and outs of it, but
- 3:18Speaker 2: I can I can kind of take a guess and
- 3:21Speaker 2: see a few things that I see different. And I'm
- 3:24Speaker 2: not that Jordan watches this show every couple of days.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But he might laugh at me when I when I
- 3:29Speaker 2: say that, and say, no, you're crazy. I haven't done
- 3:31Speaker 2: anything like that. But now I think he looks like
- 3:34Speaker 2: he's in a really good spot. Obviously, he's really confident,
- 3:36Speaker 2: swinging about wells, hitting pitches that he wants to be
- 3:39Speaker 2: swinging at, not chasing as much. And yeah, I think
- 3:43Speaker 2: it's a good thing for the Cardinals. I've said it before.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I don't like to put too much, but Jordan Walker
- 3:52Speaker 2: is one of those players that I think it is
- 3:55Speaker 2: important for him to be ongoing if if the Cardinals
- 3:58Speaker 2: want to get to where they're going to.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Be, if you look at Jordan Walker now Lance and
- 4:06Speaker 1: the way he's going about it, I'll tell you what
- 4:08Speaker 1: he told me and then we'll get into that in
- 4:10Speaker 1: a minute, right Brent Brown told me they reached the
- 4:14Speaker 1: compromise where they're letting them do the things that feel
- 4:17Speaker 1: good to him and natural. But with the data, they
- 4:20Speaker 1: put his hands in a little different spot and he's
- 4:22Speaker 1: seeing the ball better. And what do you seeing, Lence,
- 4:25Speaker 1: because he does he also got confident. Now he got
- 4:29Speaker 1: his confidence back, and he does look completely different.
- 4:32Speaker 4: What are you seeing Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I mean confidence is huge, right when you slow it
- 4:36Speaker 3: down and you look at what he's doing. He was
- 4:38Speaker 3: chasing out of the zone, he was in where's my hands,
- 4:41Speaker 3: where's my feet? What kind of angles am I trying
- 4:43Speaker 3: to get at? When you're doing all those things and
- 4:45Speaker 3: trying to figure all those things out in the box,
- 4:47Speaker 3: it's hard to hit major league pitching. And then you're
- 4:50Speaker 3: either in between on pitches or you know, you you
- 4:53Speaker 3: don't even really have a plan what you're doing because
- 4:55Speaker 3: you're worried about other things that should have already been
- 4:58Speaker 3: done before he got in the box. So I think
- 5:00Speaker 3: the main thing that everyone's starting to see is all
- 5:02Speaker 3: the work that's been put in is finally slowing down
- 5:05Speaker 3: the game in the box. And for a guy that's
- 5:08Speaker 3: talented as he is and you know, had the first
- 5:11Speaker 3: year they had, and now he's able to incorporate all
- 5:13Speaker 3: the negatives that he had and make them positives because
- 5:16Speaker 3: the game's slowing down. He's in a good place mechanically
- 5:19Speaker 3: with his swing and his process. And I think that
- 5:22Speaker 3: was the main thing, right, is have some urgency and
- 5:24Speaker 3: do the things you need to do in between at bats,
- 5:27Speaker 3: in between games and prep wise, and I think he's
- 5:30Speaker 3: found his happy medium. Instead of trying everything that everyone
- 5:34Speaker 3: wants him to try, he's finally simplified as, these are
- 5:37Speaker 3: the things I like to do, these are the things
- 5:38Speaker 3: I'm good at, and then how I can incorporate the
- 5:41Speaker 3: other things a little bit to make myself stay in
- 5:44Speaker 3: a good spot and keep that routine where it needs
- 5:48Speaker 3: to be so day in and day out he can
- 5:49Speaker 3: have success instead of always trying new things. I think
- 5:52Speaker 3: the last two years we've seen a guy that's literally
- 5:54Speaker 3: just been trying new things at times and then would
- 5:58Speaker 3: backpedal because it wasn't working and it was like, all right,
- 6:01Speaker 3: I'm going back to the old way, and then you
- 6:02Speaker 3: just get lost. So he's found a way to slow
- 6:06Speaker 3: the game down, be confident, and that's huge for any player.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And his whole thing is keeping simple. And when he
- 6:13Speaker 1: was struggling, people were like, hey, what's going on? After
- 6:16Speaker 1: a while, you don't know what to say. Right, He's
- 6:18Speaker 1: twenty three years old, Jordan Walker, nice kid, you guys
- 6:21Speaker 1: know it. He's a really nice guy. And now all
- 6:24Speaker 1: of a sudden he's red hot, and the hotter he gets,
- 6:27Speaker 1: the more people want to ask him, Hey, what's looking
- 6:31Speaker 1: for you, Hey, how did you get yourself back on track?
- 6:34Speaker 1: And the thing is, and he told me this, as
- 6:37Speaker 1: nice as he is, he wants to avoid giving the
- 6:40Speaker 1: same answer over and over and try and explain details
- 6:43Speaker 1: because he's trying to keep it simple. So I'm going
- 6:48Speaker 1: to ask you, guys, have you ever been in a
- 6:50Speaker 1: bad spot or a really good spot where you didn't
- 6:54Speaker 1: really want to explain it to the media so you
- 6:57Speaker 1: avoid him? Now with Lance, he's scared him, not me,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but he scared the other media, so he just wouldn't
- 7:03Speaker 1: answer whatever was asked and make them feel scared so
- 7:06Speaker 1: they'd go away. But Kyle, have you ever been in
- 7:08Speaker 1: a situation where you found something and he didn't really
- 7:11Speaker 1: want to talk a lot about it and put it
- 7:13Speaker 1: out there? How did you handle that as a play.
- 7:17Speaker 2: As a picture? It could be a little bit of
- 7:19Speaker 2: scattering report stuff and a little bit of approach that
- 7:23Speaker 2: you really don't want to give away. You know, there
- 7:27Speaker 2: was a time in twenty twenty three, and then actually
- 7:31Speaker 2: it carried into twenty twenty four. You know, when I
- 7:33Speaker 2: first started throwing my cutter to lefties, it really changed
- 7:36Speaker 2: how I approached lefties, and I threw it in a
- 7:39Speaker 2: lot to lefties. And then there was a time in
- 7:40Speaker 2: twenty twenty three where those balls that they were hitting
- 7:44Speaker 2: were just loopers over the second basement's head. They weren't
- 7:47Speaker 2: hard hit, but it was eighty miles an hour and
- 7:49Speaker 2: the perfect launch angle for hits. Well, I didn't really
- 7:52Speaker 2: tell anybody, but I just decided, Okay, I'm not throwing
- 7:55Speaker 2: this inside the lefties anymore. I'm only going to throw
- 7:57Speaker 2: it down in the way or on the outer column.
- 7:59Speaker 2: They're hitting round balls to second base in first base,
- 8:02Speaker 2: I'm going to take my chances. That's not really something
- 8:04Speaker 2: that I'm going to broadcast out there as an adjustment
- 8:07Speaker 2: to get lefties out. If it's something delivery wise where yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 2: you know, I felt like my left side was doing this.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I changed, you know, my spot on the rubber stuff.
- 8:16Speaker 2: That was easy to see. I had no problem talking
- 8:19Speaker 2: about it. But I'm also a talker. I'm also I
- 8:22Speaker 2: don't mind sharing. I don't mind getting into the weeds
- 8:24Speaker 2: in the delivery and some of the geeky stuff about baseball.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Maybe that's just not how Walker is. You know, he
- 8:31Speaker 2: is definitely a little bit of a quieter guy at times,
- 8:33Speaker 2: and he probably just wants to go play baseball, and
- 8:37Speaker 2: he's given the answer a few times, he probably thinks
- 8:40Speaker 2: to himself, why don't you go read the article that
- 8:42Speaker 2: somebody wrote two weeks ago, And he probably feels like
- 8:46Speaker 2: he might not be doing that much different from when
- 8:48Speaker 2: he first came into the league. So it's like I
- 8:51Speaker 2: just maybe adjusted back to who I was. You know,
- 8:54Speaker 2: it's sometimes it's a whole lot easier fixed than the
- 8:58Speaker 2: media wants to make it out to be, because you
- 9:00Speaker 2: really want this big answer on what he's doing different.
- 9:03Speaker 2: If it's one small thing, it probably really isn't that
- 9:07Speaker 2: big of a deal to make it.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Now, Lance, you had a different relationship with the media
- 9:13Speaker 1: than than Kyle. Kyle was generally polite, had a good
- 9:19Speaker 1: back and forth, and you were too, except you scared
- 9:23Speaker 1: a lot of.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Them when you were. Except when you were you were.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And then there were times like we'd try to try
- 9:29Speaker 1: to ask Lance about a certain pitch whatever, and he
- 9:32Speaker 1: would just say, I throw fastballs. Tell me what your
- 9:35Speaker 1: mindset was. When there was something you didn't want to
- 9:38Speaker 1: talk about or he didn't feel like it was anyone
- 9:41Speaker 1: else's business.
- 9:44Speaker 3: That's when you just say whatever you want to say
- 9:46Speaker 3: and do you know, just kind of make it your
- 9:48Speaker 3: own thing. So my big thing with the media was
- 9:51Speaker 3: when you when they would make a statement and then
- 9:53Speaker 3: they expected you to elaborate on their statement or what
- 9:56Speaker 3: they thought they saw, and I was like, well, and
- 10:00Speaker 3: obviously that's your opinion and that was it.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Or if you give me a yes or no question,
- 10:04Speaker 4: you were going to get a yes or no and
- 10:06Speaker 4: that was it.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I was not going to go into further details. So
- 10:09Speaker 3: when you are finding success, sometimes there's a lot of
- 10:14Speaker 3: different ways. Right you could have maybe said, hey, I
- 10:17Speaker 3: was trying something that someone wanted me to do and
- 10:19Speaker 3: I stopped doing that and now I'm back to being successful.
- 10:22Speaker 3: So you don't want to throw anybody under the bus.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Or it's hey, I've done this and this, and hey,
- 10:28Speaker 3: I'm having success. But if a picture knows what you're
- 10:32Speaker 3: trying to accomplish and something like that, then they can
- 10:34Speaker 3: maybe understand your brain and game planning for you a
- 10:38Speaker 3: little bit. So you've got to be careful with the
- 10:40Speaker 3: things that you put out in the media. And I
- 10:41Speaker 3: think that's the hard part, right, it's like, oh, the
- 10:44Speaker 3: fans should know what you're doing and this and that.
- 10:46Speaker 3: It's like, no, because if they know, the opponent knows,
- 10:49Speaker 3: and then the opponent could have an edge up on me.
- 10:50Speaker 3: So that was my big thing, is I'm not giving
- 10:54Speaker 3: the opponent anything to use against me, whether whatever it
- 10:58Speaker 3: may be. And that was I think Walk could be
- 11:01Speaker 3: in the same thing. He could be saying, well, I'm
- 11:03Speaker 3: doing this, this and this and this is what I'm
- 11:05Speaker 3: looking for on these sides of the plate, and then
- 11:07Speaker 3: I'm just not expanding because I'm just not trying to
- 11:10Speaker 3: cover that side of the plate. And then a pitcher
- 11:12Speaker 3: knows that, then they can exploit it. So it's like, hey,
- 11:15Speaker 3: I'm comfortable with where I'm at. I'm back to being simple.
- 11:18Speaker 3: The simple thing is is I've got my process, My
- 11:21Speaker 3: hands and my foot are down where they need to be,
- 11:23Speaker 3: and I'm just trying to catch my pitch in a
- 11:25Speaker 3: certain spot of the plate and I'm doing that right now,
- 11:29Speaker 3: and I don't want them to know that that's what
- 11:30Speaker 3: I'm looking for, this is what I'm trying to do,
- 11:32Speaker 3: because then they can try to have a plan against me.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So you got to watch what you put out there too.
- 11:36Speaker 3: So he's got to and you understand that as a player.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So Lance was good at a lot of things as
- 11:43Speaker 1: a major leaguer, but he was the greatest ever at
- 11:48Speaker 1: the quick answer and then look away. So if he
- 11:51Speaker 1: was given a yes no question, he would say yes
- 11:55Speaker 1: and immediately look away, and the media guy wouldn't know
- 11:58Speaker 1: what to do.
- 11:59Speaker 4: We're going to take a quick break here.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You're watching Cardinal Territory and the Foul Territory Network.
- 12:05Speaker 4: When we come back, we're gonna talk.

- 13:12Speaker 1: I was hoping that the internet would kick in a
- 13:14Speaker 1: little one. I'm still a little furry and a little fluffy.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Don't even think.
- 13:18Speaker 2: About restarting this. Don't even think about it. You know what,
- 13:21Speaker 2: if you have to get out of here, I will
- 13:24Speaker 2: ask very nicely to not let you back in. I'm
- 13:27Speaker 2: not doing it.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna throw out in the next topic
- 13:30Speaker 1: and then we'll cut to you and we'll see if
- 13:32Speaker 1: it kicks in, and if it doesn't, I'll let you
- 13:34Speaker 1: have the final topic on your own. Wilson Deterreris is
- 13:39Speaker 1: now Red Sox. He was a cardinal and had no
- 13:42Speaker 1: trade clause and then waved it and was dealt to
- 13:46Speaker 1: the Red Sox. Came back to town for the first
- 13:49Speaker 1: time since the trade and oh for four in his
- 13:52Speaker 1: first game. Then over the next two we punished the
- 13:54Speaker 1: Cardinals six hits, six RBIs, and at one point he
- 13:58Speaker 1: played at Andre Polante for coming inside on him. I
- 14:01Speaker 1: just think Wilson's fun and he's a good topic. So Cayle,
- 14:05Speaker 1: give me some memories of Wilson Contreras. Because he left.
- 14:10Speaker 1: He came as a catcher, right, there's some problem and
- 14:13Speaker 1: it as a first basement. Now he's a first basement
- 14:15Speaker 1: with the Red Sox. What are your memories of Wilson Contreras.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think it that whole weekend, how
- 14:24Speaker 2: that played into how Wilson played is exactly Wilson. He
- 14:28Speaker 2: when he played against his brother, he was just as
- 14:31Speaker 2: intense as when he played against anybody else. You know,
- 14:34Speaker 2: he saw him just get hit again the other day
- 14:36Speaker 2: by Brandon Woodruff, and you know his brother is standing
- 14:38Speaker 2: right behind him, and he knows that when he said,
- 14:42Speaker 2: if I get hit again, I'm coming after somebody. He
- 14:44Speaker 2: knows that his brother's gonna be chasing him down and
- 14:45Speaker 2: that he doesn't care. Right, he is an intense player
- 14:48Speaker 2: and he wants to punish the team that he's playing against.
- 14:52Speaker 2: You know, I think in the box, I would guess
- 14:54Speaker 2: that it was probably nothing against Andrea. By looking at him,
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think he probably knows that Andre is not trying
- 14:59Speaker 2: to hit it. I think, if anything, it's just Wilson
- 15:02Speaker 2: can be an intimidating presence. You see how he approaches
- 15:06Speaker 2: each of bat and you know that he can do
- 15:08Speaker 2: damage on any pitch. And if he can get just
- 15:10Speaker 2: a slight bit of doubt into Andre's mind that if
- 15:14Speaker 2: this pitch gets away, Wilson might be coming after me.
- 15:17Speaker 2: If he just can get the pitcher to think that
- 15:19Speaker 2: a little bit, I think it's an advantage to Wilson.
- 15:22Speaker 2: So I wish I'm nothing but the best. I think
- 15:25Speaker 2: he's I think he's a good teammate. I think he
- 15:27Speaker 2: plays really hard, and you know, he's gonna be fun
- 15:31Speaker 2: to watch him for the Red Sox. Thankfully he's not
- 15:33Speaker 2: in the National League. Went to seehim a whole lot.
- 15:36Speaker 1: So when I think of Lance guys that maybe hated
- 15:40Speaker 1: them when they're on other teams, but once they become
- 15:43Speaker 1: a teammate, you love them, I would say there's a fan,
- 15:46Speaker 1: maybe Wilson trass, maybe a lance Lynn, who's on your
- 15:50Speaker 1: list of guys that maybe you don't love when they're
- 15:54Speaker 1: playing against you, but once you're in your clubhouse, you.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Really like him a lot.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think Lackie was one of those
- 16:02Speaker 3: guys too, right, And then uh, I'm thinking aj Perzinski
- 16:06Speaker 3: was definitely one of those guys that you're like, oh man,
- 16:09Speaker 3: that guy's so I mean, they're out there, right. And
- 16:12Speaker 3: you look at Wilson. Wilson's in that category where it's
- 16:15Speaker 3: like he's just a pest, uh like pest and he
- 16:18Speaker 3: and he always seems to like want to have the
- 16:20Speaker 3: big hit and he's not afraid of anything. So you
- 16:23Speaker 3: have guys like that all the time. And then with
- 16:26Speaker 3: with Adrian or with Plante, I think I think that
- 16:28Speaker 3: was just a hey, you know what, you know, I
- 16:30Speaker 3: can whoop you, so you be careful in there, And
- 16:32Speaker 3: that was just that was just his way of saying,
- 16:35Speaker 3: you know better, And it was more of an intimidation
- 16:38Speaker 3: factor than anything I don't think he meant, and it
- 16:40Speaker 3: was I know I can intimidate dre is what is
- 16:42Speaker 3: what he was trying to do. And it's kind of
- 16:45Speaker 3: funny to be honest when you see it and then
- 16:47Speaker 3: you're you're talking about it now. So but I loved
- 16:50Speaker 3: Wilson as a teammate. He was always wanting to win,
- 16:52Speaker 3: and he was always bringing it every day. And you
- 16:53Speaker 3: love those guys. And then those are the guys that
- 16:55Speaker 3: also piss you off on the other side when you're
- 16:57Speaker 3: playing against him. But hey, it's part of the game
- 16:59Speaker 3: and that's the beauty of it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So Drey had a rough one against the Red Sox.
- 17:06Speaker 1: The starter rotation have been pretty good. A couple of
- 17:09Speaker 1: bumps in the road. I'm not sure you know where
- 17:12Speaker 1: they are right now. But the bullpen, which I thought
- 17:14Speaker 1: would be a strong suit, has really had some issues
- 17:18Speaker 1: for the Cardinals. And one of the guys I think
- 17:20Speaker 1: he came out of nowhere, Swanson has era. He's like fifteen.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Last year he had a sub two ERA and was
- 17:28Speaker 1: lights out. And there's a guy who in the miners
- 17:31Speaker 1: was a bullpen guy, used to leverage situations and I
- 17:34Speaker 1: thought he's money in the bank. Now it's early, he
- 17:36Speaker 1: has plenty of time to correct it. But Kyle, just
- 17:39Speaker 1: your thoughts on Swanson. Are you surprised too to see
- 17:42Speaker 1: the troubles that he's happened.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I think I'm just a surprised as I am with
- 17:46Speaker 2: your Internet, you know, I mean, I think your Internet
- 17:49Speaker 2: sigma right now is not going great, fairly fairly similar.
- 17:52Speaker 2: But I don't think we can judge your Internet just
- 17:54Speaker 2: based on today's show. So I think I would say
- 17:58Speaker 2: the same about Sponson. I think everybody is pretty confident
- 18:02Speaker 2: with who he is out of the bullpen, and I
- 18:04Speaker 2: think you keep giving them the ball, you keep you
- 18:07Speaker 2: keep having him, you know, stick to his process if
- 18:10Speaker 2: you think his process is right, and you believe that
- 18:12Speaker 2: he's going to be you know, in three weeks he
- 18:15Speaker 2: could be down to a seven, and then in three
- 18:17Speaker 2: more weeks he's down to a four, and now all
- 18:19Speaker 2: of a sudden, you forget all about it, and then
- 18:20Speaker 2: you can look over the last six weeks and this
- 18:23Speaker 2: is what he's been doing so early on in the
- 18:25Speaker 2: year pitching and hitting. Everybody's stats can be inflamed really
- 18:30Speaker 2: high or sink really low just based on a few
- 18:33Speaker 2: games here there. So I think Andre went from a
- 18:36Speaker 2: one and a half to whatever he went to, right,
- 18:40Speaker 2: it happens in one game early on. So as much
- 18:43Speaker 2: as I would love to judge your Internet based on
- 18:45Speaker 2: today's show, I'm going to withhold doing that and we'll
- 18:47Speaker 2: hope that next time it's going to be better.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Baseball's like internet.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Some days good so good, but we're here. My last
- 18:55Speaker 1: thing for Lance and then I'm going to call up
- 18:57Speaker 1: the jam because we got to solid program and let's
- 19:01Speaker 1: not tempt fake. But let's looking at the bullpen.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I did think like.
- 19:06Speaker 1: With O'Reilly whose lights out right? JoJo's having a great season.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Swanson was great last year. I think he'll be good again.
- 19:13Speaker 1: I thought the bullpen they've tinkered with it, little Ben
- 19:16Speaker 1: would be a strong suit. Are you still on board
- 19:18Speaker 1: that the bullpen can be a strong suit for the
- 19:20Speaker 1: ball club?
- 19:22Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. They've got guys with stuff down there.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I think you're starting to see some of the younger
- 19:26Speaker 3: guys that had success last year. You're seeing the league
- 19:29Speaker 3: kind of catch up to them. I guess from last
- 19:32Speaker 3: year a little bit too. So now it's going to
- 19:33Speaker 3: be what your what's your counter back to kind of
- 19:37Speaker 3: being able to make sure certain things work in your
- 19:39Speaker 3: favor like they did last year. So though, the hard
- 19:43Speaker 3: part with bullpens or relievers is you know, year in and
- 19:46Speaker 3: year out, you can have you know, your good years
- 19:48Speaker 3: and your bad years. I think last year you're looking
- 19:50Speaker 3: at a guy who came in did really well. There
- 19:53Speaker 3: wasn't a whole lot of books on this, and that
- 19:55Speaker 3: you know right now, whether he's getting himself in behind
- 19:58Speaker 3: accounts or when he does miss, he's missing middle.
- 20:01Speaker 4: So it's a little bit of in between right now.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Execution's not there with them having eyes on you for
- 20:09Speaker 3: you know, a longer period of time now from last year.
- 20:12Speaker 3: So it's going to be, Hey, he's a young pitcher
- 20:15Speaker 3: in the league still, so how's he going to counter
- 20:17Speaker 3: what hitters are doing against him? And some of it
- 20:20Speaker 3: is bad luck at times too, So you got to
- 20:22Speaker 3: make sure you keep him on board, see what's working,
- 20:25Speaker 3: what's not working, what worked last year, why it worked,
- 20:29Speaker 3: and then what are the things you can do to
- 20:31Speaker 3: you know, keep hitters off certain things and get yourself
- 20:34Speaker 3: in your accounts that you need. So and that comes
- 20:37Speaker 3: with you know what, seeing what they're trying to do
- 20:40Speaker 3: against you and what's uh, you know, what's going wrong.
- 20:43Speaker 3: So with Dusty and the group there and Julio and
- 20:45Speaker 3: the bullpen, they'll be able to write that ship because
- 20:48Speaker 3: of the stuff. Right now, it's just making sure he
- 20:50Speaker 3: understands and keeps confidence in his stuff and using it
- 20:54Speaker 3: where he needs to on certain sides of the plate
- 20:56Speaker 3: to make hitters stay honest, and that comes with, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 3: being out there.
- 21:00Speaker 4: And doing it.
- 21:00Speaker 3: And you know, we're gonna have some ups and downs
- 21:03Speaker 3: this year with pitching because of how young it is
- 21:06Speaker 3: and hitting, so this is part of it.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Hopefully there's a quick.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Fix and then you can get back to doing what
- 21:12Speaker 3: he's doing it and it might just be getting in
- 21:14Speaker 3: better counts. It's as simple as strike one to get
- 21:17Speaker 3: yourself in situation sometimes. So you know, we'll see what
- 21:20Speaker 3: they have in store for him to be able to
- 21:22Speaker 3: kind of get back to what we saw last year.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Point well, taking gentlemen, thanks for battling through, and that's
- 21:27Speaker 1: going to do it for this edition of Cardinal Territory.
- 21:31Speaker 1: We'll see you next time on the next episode and
- 21:33Speaker 1: hopefully my internet won't suck.
