- 0:50Speaker 1: Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of the Tailgate.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm your host, Cy Amandsen. Across from me my co host,
- 0:58Speaker 1: the Great Chad Daniel. It's a short week, Chatty Daddy,
- 1:03Speaker 1: you had a week off. We let Blake be here
- 1:05Speaker 1: never again because the game did not go the way
- 1:08Speaker 1: we wanted. Never again.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I can't believe the one game you gave to somebody
- 1:12Speaker 2: else was the Eagles. I got plenty of good Eagles stuff.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I used to be a fan because of crisscross.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I just the audience likes Blake. He's been on it
- 1:20Speaker 1: a lot of times.
- 1:21Speaker 2: That is not true.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I don't know who when he comes on. So I'm
- 1:26Speaker 1: with you, he's gone.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a jinx.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Banish him. Normally, we don't record so quickly after the
- 1:34Speaker 1: last game because we're a preview show in theory. But
- 1:39Speaker 1: short week, brother man, we can turn around all that
- 1:42Speaker 1: negativity into some positivity on Thursday night football against the Chargers.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And I was, I was getting ready for this show,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and we have a friend who just knows too many
- 1:55Speaker 1: sports facts to want to hang out with him a lot,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, And I was just texting about the
- 2:02Speaker 1: upcoming game and he sent me and so I can't
- 2:06Speaker 1: guarantee this is true. You know, you and I aren't
- 2:08Speaker 1: big research guys. But that throughout their history, not counting Thanksgiving,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Vikings are zero to six in Thursday night road games.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, they have not.
- 2:21Speaker 1: They have not won a road game on Thursday night
- 2:24Speaker 1: in decades.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I don't know that they've been doing Thursday night football
- 2:27Speaker 1: for decades. That's just the dumb way he phrased the text. Sure,
- 2:30Speaker 1: he tried to put me in a sour mood before
- 2:33Speaker 1: I came to try to be in a positive mood
- 2:35Speaker 1: to fix how much of a sour mood I am
- 2:38Speaker 1: because we're recording so close to a loss.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to tell you something right now. Why
- 2:43Speaker 2: don't you tell him? Text him back immediately and say
- 2:46Speaker 2: how does one and six look? Because that's where we're at,
- 2:49Speaker 2: that's where we're headed.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Yeah you know, Oh okay. I thought you were talking
- 2:53Speaker 1: about his favorite team, which I think that's their record,
- 2:55Speaker 1: so that burn you were being positive. I thought you
- 2:57Speaker 1: were taking a shot at him and knew who I
- 2:59Speaker 1: was talking about, because there's clearly one friend we have
- 3:02Speaker 1: who does stupid stuff like this. I have a question
- 3:06Speaker 1: before we get in, do the matchup history and the
- 3:11Speaker 1: current matchup. I don't have a lot of beef with
- 3:15Speaker 1: the Chargers, cool colors, we don't have any horrific history
- 3:19Speaker 1: against them.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you something. I look great, and I
- 3:21Speaker 2: look great and powder blue. I don't have any because
- 3:24Speaker 2: of the Chargers in case we play them, but I
- 3:26Speaker 2: want you to know it makes my eyes pop.
- 3:28Speaker 1: It's they used to be in San Diego, one of
- 3:31Speaker 1: the great American cities. Not a lot to hate but
- 3:36Speaker 1: I find it so interesting that a team, you know,
- 3:40Speaker 1: so I believe the Clippers did this as well. You
- 3:43Speaker 1: move from San Diego to La which is literally you
- 3:45Speaker 1: can take the PCH. That's a four hour on the
- 3:49Speaker 1: PCH to get there. Now we lose the Dallas the
- 3:53Speaker 1: North Stars to Dallas, they become the Dallas Stars. My
- 3:57Speaker 1: question for you is if we lost a team and
- 4:01Speaker 1: they moved like, it's hard because they are Minnesota. It's
- 4:07Speaker 1: the state, and these are cities out there. So let's
- 4:10Speaker 1: say the Stars had moved and become the Sioux Falls
- 4:13Speaker 1: Stars or the South Dakota Stars, so we're talking four
- 4:16Speaker 1: hours away, or for you, the Fargo Stars.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Come on, they Fargo Stars, because now you gotta hear
- 4:22Speaker 2: everybody go, oh, look, the Fargo Stars are home today.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I guess the question I'm asking is if you're a
- 4:28Speaker 1: lifelong Charger fan and they move up to Los Angeles,
- 4:31Speaker 1: are you bitter about that and you walk away because
- 4:34Speaker 1: you're not getting a team back. I don't think they're
- 4:36Speaker 1: putting another I don't want to guarantee it. I'm not
- 4:38Speaker 1: in those meetings, but I don't know that there's gonna
- 4:42Speaker 1: be another one there. So do you just become bitter,
- 4:44Speaker 1: find another team, or stop being a fan of the league,
- 4:47Speaker 1: or do you follow that team to LA and be
- 4:49Speaker 1: okay with the drive?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, here's the thing though, the drive to LA
- 4:55Speaker 2: is different from the drive to Sioux Falls or Fargo.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I mean, you're gonna see nine cars going either way,
- 5:03Speaker 2: and so I don't know. It would be nice. It
- 5:05Speaker 2: would be nice to send the team to Fargo just
- 5:08Speaker 2: for a year, so Minnesotans could go over to North
- 5:10Speaker 2: Dakota and ruin all their roads and not pay taxes.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I think that would be great. But instead we host
- 5:17Speaker 2: the team, so we must deal with it, and that's fine.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I think that I think I would still be a fan. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 2: I think, you know.
- 5:25Speaker 1: And Leicester was so did you ever did you ever
- 5:27Speaker 1: consider that when the Stars last?
- 5:29Speaker 2: No? Because here's I was just gonna bring this up.
- 5:31Speaker 2: This is the problem with what Norm Green did. It
- 5:34Speaker 2: was so calculated and so mischievous that he took the
- 5:39Speaker 2: North Stars emblem away. They became the Minnesota Stars, and
- 5:42Speaker 2: then he moved them, and then they became the Lone Stars.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And now that the Stars get so I was just like,
- 5:49Speaker 2: you know, listen, Norm Green, I don't have a lot
- 5:52Speaker 2: of great things to say about him, and this is
- 5:54Speaker 2: a family show, so let's move on.
- 5:56Speaker 1: When I think Chargers and Vikings, yeah, Chadley, I think
- 6:00Speaker 1: two things. It's crazy that're from the same game.
- 6:04Speaker 2: One of them, Oh okay, you know where I'm.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Going already, one of my most absurd happenings. I'm being dramatic,
- 6:14Speaker 1: but I would say in NFL history the fact, so
- 6:17Speaker 1: you it's two thousand and seven, right week nine, Vikings
- 6:22Speaker 1: Chargers end of the first half. Kicking a fifty seven
- 6:27Speaker 1: yard field goal, Antonio Cramarti brings one hundred and nine
- 6:31Speaker 1: yard missed field goal all the way back. At the time,
- 6:36Speaker 1: it is the longest scoring play in NFL history. The
- 6:40Speaker 1: only way that it could be more is if you
- 6:43Speaker 1: Chris Carter Ballerina toes your way to like an extended
- 6:49Speaker 1: two extra yards through the back of the end zone
- 6:51Speaker 1: and that's where you catch the ball.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And then that's just semantics, but almost that's almost what
- 6:55Speaker 2: he did. It's it's almost nine point nine because he towed,
- 6:57Speaker 2: but he didn't he so so you know, we've seen
- 7:01Speaker 2: great receivers from the Viking. They you know, they have
- 7:03Speaker 2: their toes on the line. Fully extended, make the catch,
- 7:06Speaker 2: but that's going sideways on the sideline. Cromarty jumped back
- 7:11Speaker 2: and caught this thing. It was almost like he robbed
- 7:14Speaker 2: a home run. He brought it back. He jumped up,
- 7:18Speaker 2: caught the ball which was technically out of the back
- 7:22Speaker 2: of the end zone, brought it back in, and then
- 7:25Speaker 2: went from zero to sixty before he was out of
- 7:27Speaker 2: the end zone. That dude can move. And this is
- 7:31Speaker 2: I think it was long.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Will the kite that might have been long.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Well, yeah, so fifty seven So I know where I
- 7:37Speaker 2: know we look forward, we don't look backwards. I'm gonna
- 7:39Speaker 2: tell you some Will Reiker during the Eagles game made
- 7:42Speaker 2: a fifty nine yard field goal and I was in
- 7:45Speaker 2: section one thirty six, which is to the right of
- 7:48Speaker 2: the goalpost. This thing banged the net. It was so
- 7:53Speaker 2: big it would have gone in from seventy at least
- 7:56Speaker 2: seventy yards. It was such a huge kick. And it's uh, so,
- 8:00Speaker 2: I know we've had some kicking stuff like this where
- 8:02Speaker 2: fifty seven doesn't quite get there. Not anymore.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Baby, What do you do you think that is? Are
- 8:07Speaker 1: we just at the point where, like from an evolution standpoint,
- 8:11Speaker 1: where back in the day, no one wanted to be
- 8:12Speaker 1: a kicker, and then everybody's like, why you know, kickers
- 8:15Speaker 1: make a lot of money and they get to be
- 8:17Speaker 1: in the NFL and it's cool, and like at some
- 8:19Speaker 1: point kicking got cool, and now it's a really competitive
- 8:22Speaker 1: universe because we are at the point where you go, yeah,
- 8:25Speaker 1: line up to kick it from fifty nine to sixty.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's not even really a question, right, which it wasn't
- 8:30Speaker 1: more than a decade or two ago that you're like,
- 8:32Speaker 1: if this is fifty seven, it might fall short.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah. I think what happened was a lot of
- 8:36Speaker 2: people saw Happy Gilmour two with the hip surgery that
- 8:40Speaker 2: they did, and I think a lot of these kickers
- 8:43Speaker 2: are doing that now. And obviously that's complete nonsense. So
- 8:47Speaker 2: don't write in.
- 8:49Speaker 1: The uh, that would be a crazy game. That would
- 8:52Speaker 1: be a crazy happening in and of itself, right. But
- 8:57Speaker 1: but then our boy goes he goes smash zoid on
- 9:04Speaker 1: the NFL Russian record two ninety six still bums me
- 9:08Speaker 1: out that he didn't get to three hundred, just because
- 9:10Speaker 1: that's a nice round number. But I remember, I remember
- 9:14Speaker 1: as it was happening, thinking, you know, the conversation about
- 9:18Speaker 1: goats and who's the greatest and all this stuff. I
- 9:20Speaker 1: want to tell you why Jordan is better than Lebron.
- 9:23Speaker 1: That's what I'm I enjoy that. I think it's really
- 9:27Speaker 1: hard to do in football, you know, having the goat
- 9:30Speaker 1: conversation because of the specialized positions and how different they
- 9:34Speaker 1: are versus basketball, where it's a smooth, free flowing game
- 9:38Speaker 1: where you can do a lot of different things even
- 9:40Speaker 1: though there are different positions. But the thing that I
- 9:43Speaker 1: remember about Ap is going I don't during that game
- 9:47Speaker 1: and then the other time I remember it was during
- 9:49Speaker 1: that stretch that year that he got the two thousand yards,
- 9:53Speaker 1: that like those last seven to nine games where they
- 9:56Speaker 1: were putting all those people in the box and he
- 9:57Speaker 1: was just going and going and going, thinking I don't
- 10:02Speaker 1: know that this is the greatest running back of all time,
- 10:04Speaker 1: but in the moment that day that he went for
- 10:06Speaker 1: two ninety six, that that that stretch of games, I
- 10:10Speaker 1: think you take that guy against the best version of
- 10:14Speaker 1: every other guy, the Peyton's, the Jim Brown's the same,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and I'm not sure any of them are better than him.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I mean Adrian Peterson, he could bounce around
- 10:24Speaker 2: a little Barry Sanders with the footwork, but he was
- 10:26Speaker 2: a he was a sprinter level runner that could that
- 10:33Speaker 2: hit people like a linebacker. I mean, it really was
- 10:36Speaker 2: unbelievable where guys were like, you know what, I'm gonna
- 10:39Speaker 2: try to wrap up his legs, but then he'd lift
- 10:41Speaker 2: his knees up a little higher and you'd see their
- 10:43Speaker 2: shoulders separate and they'd be laying on the ground. I mean,
- 10:46Speaker 2: he was unbelievable. You know, it is hard to go
- 10:50Speaker 2: who is the greatest running back ever, because then you
- 10:52Speaker 2: have to throw in the argument of who in the
- 10:55Speaker 2: same season has had a.
- 10:56Speaker 1: You're going to do the tell you doing the herschel
- 10:57Speaker 1: Walker thing? Is this thing where you have to shoehorn
- 10:59Speaker 1: in her walker.
- 11:00Speaker 2: A ninety yard run from scrimmage, a ninety yard reception
- 11:03Speaker 2: from scrimmage, and a ninety plus yard kickoff slash punt return. No, no, no, no, no,
- 11:07Speaker 2: of course it's walk baby.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I just think it's I think he was that sort
- 11:12Speaker 1: of and we've seen we've had this twice in my
- 11:17Speaker 1: fandom career where we've had a guy on our team that,
- 11:20Speaker 1: in a moment, like the peak moment of their career
- 11:26Speaker 1: might have been the better peak or the best peak
- 11:30Speaker 1: moment that anybody like obviously Jared, Jerry Rice, but Moss
- 11:33Speaker 1: at the peak of being Randy Moss. You go one
- 11:37Speaker 1: game guy at their peak, I don't know. And that's
- 11:40Speaker 1: that's what AP looked like. In that San Diego game.
- 11:43Speaker 1: You're like, well, what the hell are we doing? How
- 11:45Speaker 1: does a guy rip off like this? It was absolutely absurd.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you ask yourself, who do I take? Who's best
- 11:52Speaker 2: game do I take? And he is way up.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I remember this. I remember the far year there was
- 12:01Speaker 1: a game where I think it was against the Ravens
- 12:06Speaker 1: where he broke loose and he was running up the
- 12:09Speaker 1: left sideline. Jay might remember this and he can tell
- 12:12Speaker 1: me what the actual game was, but I believe it
- 12:15Speaker 1: was the Ravens. It might have been the Steelers. But
- 12:17Speaker 1: he broke up the sideline and he trucked a defensive
- 12:22Speaker 1: back up near the sideline and let out this like
- 12:25Speaker 1: scream that You're like, was the most absurd thing I've
- 12:30Speaker 1: ever heard. It was one of the like, oh, no, one,
- 12:33Speaker 1: He truly looks like a man amongst little children running
- 12:39Speaker 1: them over and screaming.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That is true.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I mean, he looks like the mascots against the third graders.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Look where his Look where his knees are when he's running.
- 12:48Speaker 2: It's neck breaking height. It truly is. And I remember think.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Jay is the King immediately messages texts me Adrian Peterson
- 12:58Speaker 1: versus William Gay on the Steelers. So I thought Ravens
- 13:01Speaker 1: it was it was Steelers.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah. Ap was one of those guys where even
- 13:06Speaker 2: if you even if the team lost, you still go
- 13:10Speaker 2: you leave your jersey on and go out to pick
- 13:13Speaker 2: up your dinner because you go, yeah, but we still
- 13:15Speaker 2: got all day. We still got AP.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We still got a p the the Chargers. In addition
- 13:22Speaker 1: to being from a place that I think would be
- 13:24Speaker 1: great to live originally, they also had, like there's a
- 13:27Speaker 1: couple of things you already mentioned. There's three things basically
- 13:30Speaker 1: that I'm not going to rail on here. You got
- 13:32Speaker 1: the powder blue unis all time.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Let's talk about Dan Fouts, who I think a young
- 13:41Speaker 1: like retired but now in the media, Dan Fouts in
- 13:45Speaker 1: today's day and age with YouTube channels and guys being insane, like, uh,
- 13:51Speaker 1: you take that in his post career prime Dan Fouts
- 13:54Speaker 1: and throw that fella out into days. I think that
- 13:58Speaker 1: guy's an all timer. I think he is an absolute
- 14:01Speaker 1: all timer.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Also, he might he actually might get written in for
- 14:05Speaker 2: congressman somewhere. Yeah, the first person to ever actually get
- 14:09Speaker 2: written in. I don't know if that's true, but it
- 14:11Speaker 2: has to be close.
- 14:12Speaker 1: The he in The water Boy. God damn, he's funny
- 14:17Speaker 1: in the water Boy though, the line the water Boy
- 14:20Speaker 1: just needed some water. It's I as a anytime I
- 14:24Speaker 1: can shoehorn Sandler into one of our conversations. Uh, it's
- 14:28Speaker 1: a no brainer for me. But so I am. I
- 14:31Speaker 1: am a very big Dan Fouts guy. But and I
- 14:36Speaker 1: gotta tell you, I do think it's probably I like announcers,
- 14:39Speaker 1: real announcers in movies. You know Dan Patrick's. I know
- 14:42Speaker 1: he's not an announcer, but he's a radio personality. He's been
- 14:44Speaker 1: in some stuff. I don't think anybody's ever gonna touch though,
- 14:47Speaker 1: Alan Michaelson, Oh, who are you gonna do?
- 14:49Speaker 2: I was gonna say, Bob Yuker in Uh, oh.
- 14:51Speaker 1: No, that's right, Bob Youuker. It's not even close. Bob Yuker,
- 14:54Speaker 1: What am I talking about? I was going in a
- 14:56Speaker 1: different direction. I'm an idiot. Bob Buker in major League
- 14:59Speaker 1: is he He's unbelievable, King of Kings. Fun. This has
- 15:06Speaker 1: nothing to do with sports, but if you're a fan
- 15:07Speaker 1: of things that are fun to watch, watch Norm McDonald
- 15:11Speaker 1: tell David Letterman his Bob Bucher story. It's on YouTube.
- 15:15Speaker 1: You're welcome, but don't wait till our show's over. Listen
- 15:18Speaker 1: and then go do it. You could also pause, but
- 15:22Speaker 1: you know we're big. Take us start to finish, baby,
- 15:26Speaker 1: We're start to finish, guys. I was gonna say al
- 15:30Speaker 1: Michaels in Basketball, which was a big movie during my childhood. Yeah,
- 15:34Speaker 1: because you can just tell. I think he signed up
- 15:37Speaker 1: and I'm I love al Michaels. He's so good, dude.
- 15:40Speaker 1: He's all these iconic calls. He was incredible in like
- 15:44Speaker 1: the Pete Rose documentary. He's just great. And I think
- 15:48Speaker 1: on Basketball, and I have no proof of this, but
- 15:52Speaker 1: just watching it, I have to imagine he showed up
- 15:55Speaker 1: and was like, what am I doing?
- 15:59Speaker 2: What is this movie like?
- 16:00Speaker 1: Not fully understanding what he'd gotten himself into.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Al Michaels was calling a game with Kirk kurb Street
- 16:06Speaker 2: and he kept making these funny burns and then I
- 16:09Speaker 2: don't think Kirk was getting him, so he would explain
- 16:11Speaker 2: them and then finally Al goes okay, like that, it
- 16:15Speaker 2: was awesome.
- 16:17Speaker 1: The third the third, Big San Diego Like for me,
- 16:21Speaker 1: where I'm gonna give him a lot of credit is
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm a basketball guy and I don't know that he
- 16:26Speaker 1: was the first guy. Jay, you can help us out
- 16:28Speaker 1: again here, But I have to believe in the modern
- 16:31Speaker 1: NFL one of the first guys who like he just
- 16:34Speaker 1: didn't play college football. He was a college basketball player,
- 16:37Speaker 1: Antonio Gates. So he plays at Kent State and then goes, well,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna play pro football, and not only does it
- 16:43Speaker 1: becomes a Hall of Famer man young side, the basketball
- 16:47Speaker 1: player loved that. Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Remember when, like a football guy would come out of
- 16:53Speaker 2: a two a day practice and you like somehow had
- 16:56Speaker 2: a pickup game going outside the school because that's where
- 16:59Speaker 2: the courts were, and he was like, do you guys
- 17:01Speaker 2: mind if I jump in? And then he just started dunking,
- 17:04Speaker 2: and you go, that's incredible. Now let's reverse it and
- 17:08Speaker 2: take it to the professional level. I mean, get out
- 17:11Speaker 2: of here. How do you even do that? Because your body.
- 17:14Speaker 2: The reason those guys can take hits in the NFL
- 17:17Speaker 2: is because they took them in college, and before that,
- 17:19Speaker 2: they took them in high school, and before that they
- 17:21Speaker 2: took them in middle school. Your body has to adjust
- 17:23Speaker 2: to getting hit like that. And he was like, huh,
- 17:26Speaker 2: I'll do it. That's fine.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And he's not a wide receiver, right tight ends get hit.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Yeah, And he's coming from a sport where if you
- 17:33Speaker 2: get hit on the wrist you get to shoot two
- 17:35Speaker 2: free throws because it's cheating.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Go I you know I don't need all that attitude.
- 17:40Speaker 1: No one's down, no one's taking shots at hockey.
- 17:42Speaker 2: No one can take shots at hockey.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Out of here, or I'll tell you who can't. Let's
- 17:47Speaker 1: not do it. Okay, but you set me up. I
- 17:49Speaker 1: guess who can't take shots?
- 17:51Speaker 2: Play nice the Was.
- 17:54Speaker 1: There a moment for you? Was it? Do you have
- 17:56Speaker 1: like I have, like a pathetic age where you're like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I don't think I'm gonna I don't think I'm gonna
- 18:01Speaker 1: go pro because I I remember being in my early twenties,
- 18:06Speaker 1: having never played football and having a bet with someone
- 18:10Speaker 1: about how whether or not I could kick a field
- 18:13Speaker 1: goal from a certain length. And I'd never tried to
- 18:15Speaker 1: kick a field goal, and there was a part of
- 18:17Speaker 1: me in the back of my head was like, well,
- 18:19Speaker 1: this is how it starts. I'm gonna go out there,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna knock this one through. I'm gonna realize God damn,
- 18:26Speaker 1: I didn't realize I could kick a football. I'm gonna
- 18:28Speaker 1: put a little work in and I'm gonna wind up
- 18:29Speaker 1: in camp. And I didn't, like really believe it, but
- 18:32Speaker 1: I didn't think it was impossible. And so when I
- 18:34Speaker 1: went out and I struggled very poorly, I had the
- 18:37Speaker 1: moment where I was like, this is the end of
- 18:40Speaker 1: my pro hopes in every sport available. I think I
- 18:43Speaker 1: was holding onto bowling a little bit in the back
- 18:45Speaker 1: of my head because I think you could probably get
- 18:47Speaker 1: good at that at a later age. But did you
- 18:50Speaker 1: you're a psycho? What at what point did you let
- 18:53Speaker 1: go of the Vince Papali invincible? Like you had to
- 18:59Speaker 1: have thought if somebody he's me playing pond hockey, Like
- 19:02Speaker 1: what age?
- 19:02Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you right now, I'm fifty years
- 19:05Speaker 2: old and I still think I could make the Olympics
- 19:06Speaker 2: in curling. That's no kidding. I invite me to your league, listeners,
- 19:14Speaker 2: invite me to your league, and I'll show you.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I mean I just think there's this thing. Jared Allen
- 19:20Speaker 1: is on a high level curling team. I think you'd
- 19:24Speaker 1: have to find a sport. Guys like us need to
- 19:26Speaker 1: find a sport where guys who are athletes don't want
- 19:28Speaker 1: to spend their time. And I don't think they exist anymore.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think with they've all been so dude. Brad Johnson,
- 19:35Speaker 1: the former quarterback of the Vikings, qualified for the Papa
- 19:38Speaker 1: Shot National Championship oldest guy in the Papa Shot National Championships,
- 19:43Speaker 1: which is last year. Dude, Ethan and I my nephew
- 19:47Speaker 1: watched a video. Dude, You're like, oh, that's a professional
- 19:49Speaker 1: athlete shooting Papa shot. I thought I was good at
- 19:51Speaker 1: Papa shot. I am not good at Papa shot. This
- 19:55Speaker 1: dude is a professional. So that's the thing. Jared Allen
- 19:58Speaker 1: doing curling. Brad Johnson, when Papa shot, why don't you
- 20:01Speaker 1: just leave the ping pong and the BATCHI ball to
- 20:04Speaker 1: all us noormies. Yeah, some of us can live out
- 20:06Speaker 1: our dreams.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I gotta tell you. In the comedy world, I'm undefeated
- 20:10Speaker 2: in Papa shot, and that's just a fact. I don't
- 20:12Speaker 2: want to argue. I don't want to sit here and
- 20:13Speaker 2: show you my record. But going to bars after shows
- 20:16Speaker 2: with a Papa shot, I cannot be beaten. And then
- 20:20Speaker 2: Washington d C Kittie Corner. It's an underground billiards hall
- 20:24Speaker 2: has a Papa shot Kitty Corner from the Washington DC
- 20:27Speaker 2: improv and I go in and there is a guy
- 20:32Speaker 2: that is maybe up to my chest and he is
- 20:36Speaker 2: using both hands, both hands to just flick flick, flick,
- 20:40Speaker 2: flick flick. It looks like he's trying to get rain
- 20:43Speaker 2: off of his wrists. And he beat me by more
- 20:46Speaker 2: than double and it was the craziest thing in the world.
- 20:49Speaker 2: So I handed him my Crisp one hundred dollars bill
- 20:51Speaker 2: that I had bet, and uh not great. I found
- 20:55Speaker 2: out that I'm only good against comedians who suck at
- 20:57Speaker 2: lots of stuff.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Jay just said tennis players playing pickleball is pretty next level.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Uh sure, yeah there is. That's a weird one. The
- 21:08Speaker 1: pickleball thing is a weird one for me because I
- 21:10Speaker 1: get so worried watching middle aged people play pickleball because
- 21:13Speaker 1: I don't think they realize how close they are to
- 21:16Speaker 1: tumbling every time they play. But that's not what this
- 21:18Speaker 1: show is about, right.
- 21:19Speaker 2: The show is about realizing that you and I have
- 21:22Speaker 2: another show whose producer doesn't do anything, and it's so
- 21:26Speaker 2: great to have someone in the book sending us information
- 21:30Speaker 2: and actually caring.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It's great. What a change for the two of us.
- 21:34Speaker 1: The matchup this week, Chad our opportunity to get right
- 21:40Speaker 1: if you will. I find it to be an interesting one,
- 21:45Speaker 1: and I would say leading that was what I going
- 21:51Speaker 1: into last week thought to be a pretty interesting red
- 21:54Speaker 1: zone matchup. Okay, now, did I anticipate we would go
- 21:59Speaker 1: one for six in the zone this weekend and therefore
- 22:02Speaker 1: change a lot of the rankings and things that I
- 22:04Speaker 1: thought were interesting going into this Thursday night game? I
- 22:06Speaker 1: did not. But I think. I think. I think because
- 22:10Speaker 1: when you have a next level coach, right, and a
- 22:13Speaker 1: guy who takes a lot of pride in his play
- 22:16Speaker 1: designing and his execution there, this isn't one of those
- 22:18Speaker 1: things where this team's gonna go one for six in
- 22:20Speaker 1: the red zone and come out and go one for
- 22:22Speaker 1: six next week. So I think it's gonna be tuned up.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I think there's gonna be some regression, some positive regression here,
- 22:28Speaker 1: because going into the Eagles game, the Vikings offense was
- 22:36Speaker 1: sixty six point seven per TD rate in the red zone.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Chargers defense second best in the league forty two point
- 22:45Speaker 1: nine percent. Okay, and I thought that to be one
- 22:48Speaker 1: of the premier matchups. And I think now having a
- 22:52Speaker 1: little chip on our shoulder gives us a little juice.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I just whatever your second best defense is, I think
- 23:00Speaker 1: in the set, well, let me let me, let me
- 23:01Speaker 1: continue my speech, because what I am tired of? Can
- 23:05Speaker 1: I give you what I'm tired of?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Why do you ask me things you're gonna do anyways,
- 23:08Speaker 2: just do it.
- 23:09Speaker 1: What I'm tired of. And I don't care play anybody wherever, however,
- 23:13Speaker 1: But as a fan and a complainer, yeah, we keep
- 23:17Speaker 1: running into these teams in desperate situations. Sure the Falcons
- 23:21Speaker 1: get housed or excuse me, they lose that really tough
- 23:24Speaker 1: game to open the year with everybody watching. Then we
- 23:26Speaker 1: gotta get them on Sunday night. They're desperate, right, the Eagles,
- 23:30Speaker 1: the world champions, lose two in a row, and then
- 23:33Speaker 1: we gotta get them. And oh, by the way, even
- 23:34Speaker 1: though we have a bye, they've got they had a
- 23:36Speaker 1: Thursday night game, right, a desperate team with extra time
- 23:40Speaker 1: that cuts off our extra time. And now the Chargers,
- 23:43Speaker 1: who everybody thought was one of the they thought they
- 23:44Speaker 1: were one of the best teams in the league. They're
- 23:46Speaker 1: not playing well, they get smacked and and we're going
- 23:50Speaker 1: to their house and they got something to prove. I'm
- 23:52Speaker 1: tired of the chips on the shoulders, but I think
- 23:56Speaker 1: our performance in the red zone can mitigate that, because
- 23:59Speaker 1: I think you take the coach, you think you take
- 24:01Speaker 1: a players, and how proud they all are of how
- 24:04Speaker 1: they execute, and I think we're gonna punch that second
- 24:07Speaker 1: place ranking right in the face.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I like where your head's at. I'm going to tell
- 24:11Speaker 2: you that watching the Vikings go one for six in
- 24:14Speaker 2: the red zone made me realize something being at live
- 24:17Speaker 2: games is that I can yell as loud as I want,
- 24:20Speaker 2: and no one can yell at me for ruining their
- 24:23Speaker 2: experience because I was doing some screaming, and because you
- 24:28Speaker 2: know that when I yell at home at the TV,
- 24:31Speaker 2: someone that lives with me gets upset about that, even
- 24:34Speaker 2: though she can go full panic when she opens the
- 24:37Speaker 2: screen door and a bunch of bugs come in the
- 24:39Speaker 2: house and I think there's a murderer about to take
- 24:42Speaker 2: her out. That's fine. We don't have to get into that.
- 24:45Speaker 1: What I'm saying, Can I ask you a question about
- 24:47Speaker 1: being there? Yeah, my dad took me to When I
- 24:52Speaker 1: was a kid, we didn't go to a lot of games.
- 24:54Speaker 1: One of the only things we ever did is we
- 24:55Speaker 1: went to a Twins game and it was actually the
- 24:57Speaker 1: last game of the strike season and it was the
- 25:00Speaker 1: last game of Kent Herbeck's career. Wow, and so Kent
- 25:05Speaker 1: Herbeck And maybe I just remember this as a kid,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but I don't think so. I think it's what happened.
- 25:09Speaker 1: He got up multiple times with multiple people on base,
- 25:14Speaker 1: if not the base is loaded, and every time he
- 25:19Speaker 1: jacked one like put it deep right to the warning track.
- 25:24Speaker 1: This place he goes up, this place goes nuts. Big
- 25:27Speaker 1: moment coming hits the ball, everybody goes crazy. And then
- 25:32Speaker 1: and it was like four four moments of that throughout
- 25:36Speaker 1: the game. Now, excellent end. The last out to win
- 25:39Speaker 1: the game, somebody did a line drive out of bounds
- 25:42Speaker 1: down the first baseline and he did at that age,
- 25:45Speaker 1: that year old Herbeck diving snag. Yeah, right to catch it. Excellent,
- 25:52Speaker 1: excellent moment.
- 25:52Speaker 2: And for you baseball fans, we know it's not out
- 25:54Speaker 2: of bounds, it's foul. Territory, But that's fine, keep going.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Did you was there? Did you have that vibe because
- 26:00Speaker 1: them getting like because I think they could have been
- 26:03Speaker 1: should have won that game. I think they were the
- 26:06Speaker 1: better team. I know nobody likes to use that language,
- 26:10Speaker 1: but I thought they were a very good team ready
- 26:12Speaker 1: to win that game. Was there a vibe where everybody
- 26:15Speaker 1: was like, oh my gosh, here it goes, here, it goes,
- 26:16Speaker 1: here goes Was there just like this pent.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Up I will tell you all day. Yeah. After the
- 26:23Speaker 2: third field goal, it was a lot of mumbling, the
- 26:28Speaker 2: Vikings cheer song, right, it was a lot of like,
- 26:34Speaker 2: it was a lot of that. But then score a
- 26:35Speaker 2: touchdown and then that Hockinson. Oh it was so close.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I still think it was a catch.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I think it was a catch. I don't know. I
- 26:43Speaker 1: don't want to. I don't want to get in the
- 26:44Speaker 1: weeds with the ref who comes on the screen and
- 26:47Speaker 1: tells you what happened from his cozy booth, but I
- 26:50Speaker 1: don't happen to agree with him. The nice thing about
- 26:52Speaker 1: games is you usually get the energy and enthusiasm, and
- 26:55Speaker 1: you don't get all the Minnesota pessimism where you kick
- 26:58Speaker 1: the second ass.
- 26:59Speaker 2: That's what I was gonna tell you, is that just
- 27:03Speaker 2: Minnesota Sports has this thing where where we almost it
- 27:08Speaker 2: feels like sometimes we don't want it, we want to wallow.
- 27:12Speaker 2: But there was none of that in this game. And
- 27:14Speaker 2: that's what I like about this team. It's like we
- 27:16Speaker 2: talked about Adrian Peterson. We go, wow, we still have
- 27:18Speaker 2: Adrian Peterson. We go, wow, we still have And now
- 27:21Speaker 2: it's a list, it's a list of people. We go,
- 27:24Speaker 2: I still got these guys. Le let's figure it out and.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Let me add something to my whole red zone point here.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They might be good in the red zone, but you
- 27:31Speaker 1: know what I think we're sitting on. You need to
- 27:33Speaker 1: think we're waiting on here. With how well Addison played,
- 27:36Speaker 1: I think I think we're gonna have We keep getting
- 27:39Speaker 1: these moments where we get these chunk plays, these fifteen
- 27:42Speaker 1: Like I think we are so close to having a
- 27:45Speaker 1: game where we go, oh did we just put three forty,
- 27:49Speaker 1: a forty, a fifty, and a seventy on the board. Like,
- 27:52Speaker 1: I think we are so close to breaking through on
- 27:56Speaker 1: some long explosive passing games, and maybe this is time
- 27:58Speaker 1: to do it. Maybe we skip the zone because that, yeah, Addison,
- 28:02Speaker 1: that's a great idea. The Jordan Addison thing was nuts
- 28:05Speaker 1: on Sunday, and I it's why, despite the record and
- 28:09Speaker 1: despite how disappointing that game was. You know, if I'm
- 28:13Speaker 1: if I'm being positive sigh, which we need me to be,
- 28:17Speaker 1: if I'm going to stay in a text thread with
- 28:19Speaker 1: you off the show, you know, in our private life
- 28:22Speaker 1: about this team, I would say that for so long
- 28:27Speaker 1: we have seen teams peak at the end of the
- 28:28Speaker 1: season that play really well into the playoffs, regardless of
- 28:31Speaker 1: their start. You know, the Rams have done it, the
- 28:33Speaker 1: Patriots did it for years. I do think this team
- 28:37Speaker 1: has the makings of one of those teams, as they
- 28:40Speaker 1: get the rest of their guys healthy, as they really
- 28:44Speaker 1: sync together on offense, I think it is sitting there
- 28:46Speaker 1: waiting for them. You got to get this one. You
- 28:48Speaker 1: want to go to four and three, not three and four.
- 28:51Speaker 1: But I do think it's out in front of us
- 28:53Speaker 1: as a as an option.
- 28:55Speaker 2: And if you want to look at patterns here win loss, win, loss,
- 28:58Speaker 2: win loss. I mean we know what comes next. Pretty Yeah,
- 29:02Speaker 2: you can't look past them, obviously, but talking about the
- 29:05Speaker 2: Addison day of those out routes, there's gonna be a
- 29:10Speaker 2: time where we send Hockinson in the middle, and there
- 29:13Speaker 2: is a just look off to Hawkinson and then that
- 29:16Speaker 2: out route becomes an out and down and it's it's
- 29:19Speaker 2: gonna be an explosive play.
- 29:20Speaker 1: It's coming, baby. You know. One other thing that I've
- 29:23Speaker 1: found to be interesting was there's somebody who tracks pace
- 29:29Speaker 1: of play and then categorizes it, and it's basically seconds
- 29:36Speaker 1: per play. And the Chargers have they are twenty nine
- 29:40Speaker 1: point nine seconds per play, which is considered fast in
- 29:44Speaker 1: the league, and the Vikings are thirty point three, which
- 29:48Speaker 1: is average to fast. So I think depending on how
- 29:53Speaker 1: the game goes early, I think I think you're gonna
- 29:57Speaker 1: get some fast I think you're gonna get some movement.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And I think I think the thing I'm talking about
- 30:01Speaker 1: where we start getting those shots, we start going, going, going.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I do think there's a possibility that it all comes
- 30:07Speaker 1: together just the way I not just want it to, Chad,
- 30:10Speaker 1: can I tell you the way I need it to?
- 30:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear what you're saying, But I still can't
- 30:15Speaker 2: get over the fact that when you were crunching those
- 30:17Speaker 2: numbers and figuring that out, did you look up into
- 30:19Speaker 2: the left like the good doctor. What's wrong with you.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Hey, I'm here's the thing I'm becoming. If I'm going
- 30:25Speaker 1: to get from our friend texted stats that ruin my day,
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm going to go on a search for stats that
- 30:31Speaker 1: I like. Now, do I know how to put those
- 30:33Speaker 1: into practice on a show and make the two of
- 30:35Speaker 1: us look good?
- 30:36Speaker 2: Absolutely? No way, no way. Somebody else call in with.
- 30:41Speaker 1: That, But that's not That doesn't mean that we can't
- 30:44Speaker 1: put a little stack icing on our wobbly chocolate cake. Okay,
- 30:50Speaker 1: all right, what do you got for a prediction? What
- 30:53Speaker 1: do you got for a player prediction? What do you
- 30:55Speaker 1: got for a chad prediction? And now I'm surprised that
- 30:58Speaker 1: you're not. I don't know what's going on in your life,
- 31:01Speaker 1: but I had this one pegged. You know, you got
- 31:03Speaker 1: a kid in California. Yeah, you know, we both are
- 31:07Speaker 1: a part of the industry that has a lot of
- 31:09Speaker 1: stuff in California. Hm. The ocean's there, which you love.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm somewhat surprised that you are not on the go,
- 31:19Speaker 1: do work, go to the game. See my kid trip
- 31:23Speaker 1: on this one?
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I could see where you're doing that, but I
- 31:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna be out there, see I'm gonna see her
- 31:29Speaker 2: she's actually gonna be here on that night. So we're
- 31:33Speaker 2: gonna we're gonna post up on the couch watch the game,
- 31:36Speaker 2: and she can dream about, uh, dream about that. Watched
- 31:40Speaker 2: The English Teacher with Sean Patton. We're gonna stream that
- 31:42Speaker 2: all the way through. We're gonna binge it. It's called
- 31:44Speaker 2: kids call it binging. So so here here's my prediction. Now,
- 31:48Speaker 2: obviously I said win, lost, win, loss, win, loss, so
- 31:52Speaker 2: you would think my prediction is a big win. But
- 31:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna go very conservative here because old Justi Pooh
- 32:02Speaker 2: is good at throwing the football, So I'm gonna say
- 32:04Speaker 2: Viking reeze.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Can we talk about how much Justin Herbert looks like
- 32:08Speaker 1: your kid? It is? It is?
- 32:11Speaker 2: It's wild.
- 32:12Speaker 1: How often do people tell him or you that I.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Don't know about him, but I've heard it a few times.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they look very very similar.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Listen, good looking people shout out, I make good looking
- 32:25Speaker 2: human beings.
- 32:27Speaker 1: It's like if somebody did, like right now, somebody did
- 32:32Speaker 1: a Netflix show about your kid and they had to
- 32:35Speaker 1: cast an actor, they would cast Justin Herbert.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know that he's an actor, but okay.
- 32:40Speaker 1: But he's just a bigger you know, often they pick
- 32:42Speaker 1: people who are bigger and older than.
- 32:43Speaker 2: They Chargers twenty four, and I know that sounds like
- 32:47Speaker 2: a lot. I'm so Minnesota Vikings to sixteen.
- 32:51Speaker 1: To sixteen to sixteen, So that's a little aggressive, you know.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I think you're being a little aggressive because I'm I'm
- 33:00Speaker 1: a hardball guy. I think he's a very good coach.
- 33:03Speaker 1: So I'm gonna say Chargers seventeen. I think it's gonna
- 33:08Speaker 1: be a little more low scoring. I think it's about
- 33:11Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty four for the Vikings. Who you
- 33:13Speaker 1: got for a player?
- 33:14Speaker 2: Okay, Well, here's the thing. I'm gonna go three players,
- 33:17Speaker 2: and everybody's I'm.
- 33:19Speaker 1: You're just gonna try to take as many players off
- 33:21Speaker 1: the board. So I can't choose a player.
- 33:22Speaker 2: No, no, no, because they're all from the same position.
- 33:24Speaker 2: So I don't think you're gonna do it. I'm gonna
- 33:26Speaker 2: take three players.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna say they chose all the centers, that the.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Quarterback whisperer is gonna play all three quarterbacks that wants
- 33:33Speaker 2: wishbone formation, and we are gonna see some trick plays
- 33:38Speaker 2: like we have never seen in our lifetime.
- 33:41Speaker 1: In our lifetime, mine is Justin Jefferson. Okay, it's I
- 33:47Speaker 1: think you're gonna get one of those Justin Jefferson. Oh yeah,
- 33:53Speaker 1: No one's even close to this guy. Like twelve catches,
