Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of the Bust and Spring
- 0:02Speaker 1: Football Tour. I know we've been talking about football, spring ball,
- 0:05Speaker 1: but coming to the University of Tennessee, we had to
- 0:07Speaker 1: get on the juggernaut. We had to get on Coach Vitello.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Oh correct, Tony Vitello. Yeah, yeah, young gun. I mean,
- 0:17Speaker 1: look at him, handsome before we get into before we
- 0:20Speaker 1: sit here and melting our couches. This thing is brought
- 0:22Speaker 1: to you by the Chevy Silverado, the hardest working truck
- 0:24Speaker 1: on the planet, Dependable, durable, just like the people who
- 0:26Speaker 1: drive them. You and Coach v uh. But we had
- 0:30Speaker 1: to get the baseball guys on. You guys are crushing it.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I hate that you guys just lost one last night
- 0:35Speaker 1: because you guys were on an eleven game win streak.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You're thirty and two now, is that correct?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Thirty one and two?
- 0:40Speaker 1: Thirty one and two? I forget that one. And Jack
- 0:43Speaker 1: was Jack is a huge Tennessee guy.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And everybody's to school here, yeah, and everybody's been talking
- 0:48Speaker 1: about Tennessee baseball. And I'm on my phone last night
- 0:51Speaker 1: late at nice scroll and see all your guys highlights
- 0:53Speaker 1: and everything else. And Coach Eckler's giving me a background
- 0:55Speaker 1: on you guys. You guys are kind of like the
- 0:56Speaker 1: Detroit Pistons, the bad boys of SEC baseball, college baseball raiders.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Yeah, would you agree with that? Is that fair to say?
- 1:03Speaker 2: Is that a good assessment?
- 1:05Speaker 3: I mean, I kind of like that now at this age.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I grew up.
- 1:07Speaker 4: My old man's from Chicago, so I grew up a
- 1:08Speaker 4: Bulls fan, and I hated the Pistons. But I think
- 1:11Speaker 4: if you're a competitor, that's kind of the way it
- 1:13Speaker 4: should be. You should love the guy if he's on
- 1:15Speaker 4: your team, or you should love your team if they're yours,
- 1:18Speaker 4: and then you want to be hated. If you know,
- 1:20Speaker 4: if you walk into an opponent's building, you don't want
- 1:22Speaker 4: them to like you because that means they're thinking easy victory.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Yeah, but baseball in a lot of ways, Like you
- 1:27Speaker 5: don't see guys hitting grand slams and going halfway to
- 1:30Speaker 5: first base, going that ship in the air like.
- 1:34Speaker 3: It's fucking nothing Like you.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Did you walk into the team meeting room and dangle, Hey,
- 1:39Speaker 5: here's a deal.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Fuck these guys, all of them. It's just us pirate ship. No.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I mean, I do think we've got a certain attitude
- 1:45Speaker 4: about us, but you have to in order to survive
- 1:47Speaker 4: in our league. But people man, yeah, sorry, any power
- 1:52Speaker 4: five league. But then we had a non Power five
- 1:55Speaker 4: team put it on us last night. So no, again,
- 1:58Speaker 4: at the end of the day, it's all about competition
- 2:00Speaker 4: and you got to be who you are. And that
- 2:02Speaker 4: guy in particular you're speaking of as one of our
- 2:04Speaker 4: team leaders, and he's just very unique. He's he's a
- 2:07Speaker 4: gentleman off the field, and he's an assassin on the field.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And sometimes I do my best to control them, but
- 2:13Speaker 4: sometimes I can't. Yeah, yes, Drew Gilbert, he's a fan
- 2:18Speaker 4: fan favorite, and again, anyone that's got to know him
- 2:21Speaker 4: as a person would love him.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But immediately when we go into another place.
- 2:25Speaker 4: We're in Oxford, Mississippi recently, and it took their fans
- 2:28Speaker 4: about two outs in the first inning and he was
- 2:32Speaker 4: just on deck to understand that he's not the one
- 2:34Speaker 4: to like. But you know, our guys do got a
- 2:37Speaker 4: little bit of way about him that you know, again,
- 2:39Speaker 4: if you're cheering for us, I think you enjoy and
- 2:41Speaker 4: if not, you may question it. But I don't think
- 2:43Speaker 4: anyone ever goes over the line to do something disrespectful
- 2:46Speaker 4: to the opponent.
- 2:46Speaker 3: It's just in baseball, you got to be a personality.
- 2:49Speaker 4: If you look at like the most fun teams since
- 2:51Speaker 4: we've been alive, like the Phillies back in the John
- 2:53Speaker 4: Crook era, Darren Dalton and those guys, and the Red
- 2:57Speaker 4: Sox when Malar was on their team. I mean, it's
- 3:00Speaker 4: it's long days as a baseball player. You got to
- 3:02Speaker 4: have some stuff going on in the locker room to
- 3:04Speaker 4: bring you together and also keep you entertained or in
- 3:07Speaker 4: all those all those hours.
- 3:08Speaker 3: So this is your fifth season with the volunteers.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Is this like something that's kind of built over time
- 3:12Speaker 5: or is it for whatever reason this year. No, it's
- 3:15Speaker 5: kind of just you guys to become like the bad
- 3:16Speaker 5: boys of the SEC.
- 3:17Speaker 3: No.
- 3:18Speaker 4: I think last year without last year's team, this year's
- 3:21Speaker 4: team is not having the success they are. And then
- 3:23Speaker 4: if you go back to our first year, our pitching
- 3:25Speaker 4: coach and I were joking about how we're just starving
- 3:28Speaker 4: for any win possible, and that's how we were handling
- 3:30Speaker 4: our pitching was just one day at a time, we
- 3:32Speaker 4: just need as many wins. So it's been you know,
- 3:35Speaker 4: without going into the whole long story, it's been a
- 3:37Speaker 4: gradual deal. And I'll tell you what, when the fans
- 3:39Speaker 4: got on board, and you know how crazy our fans are,
- 3:42Speaker 4: that's what kind of helped catapult this whole thing.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I think what's cool too, is like you guys, it's
- 3:48Speaker 1: clear about your gut, you guys having fun it. Like
- 3:50Speaker 1: you said, if you're an outsider and you don't cheer
- 3:52Speaker 1: for the for Tennessee, you might question it or whatever.
- 3:55Speaker 1: But baseball, for the most part, is a very uniformed,
- 3:57Speaker 1: bund up sport. And knowing that you have a team
- 4:00Speaker 1: like you do having the fun and bringing out their
- 4:01Speaker 1: personalities and having their unique style about them, and then
- 4:04Speaker 1: you have a young coach like yourself who kind of
- 4:06Speaker 1: embraces it.
- 4:06Speaker 2: The whole my Concho story, the whole my Concho bit
- 4:08Speaker 2: is hilarious.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Is this something you're conscious of You kind of just
- 4:12Speaker 1: let it fly and tell the boys, like, hey, we're
- 4:14Speaker 1: going out here to have fun. Who gives a shit
- 4:16Speaker 1: like the opinions that are out there about the sport
- 4:18Speaker 1: of baseball.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It's kind of like you guys are bringing a flavor
- 4:20Speaker 2: to the game.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I think that's something you try and set the tone
- 4:23Speaker 4: from day one. And manage what you think your culture's
- 4:26Speaker 4: kind of overused word, but what your style or brand
- 4:28Speaker 4: name is going to be. And when we first got here,
- 4:31Speaker 4: Tennessee's had great players for quite a while. I mean
- 4:33Speaker 4: Nixon Zel was a second pick in the draft before
- 4:36Speaker 4: we got here. I mean, they've had talent, but they
- 4:38Speaker 4: hadn't had kind of a flavor that Arkansas, where I
- 4:41Speaker 4: came from, you could stereotype their baseball team. And again
- 4:44Speaker 4: we talked about Mississippi or Vanderbilt. And now I think
- 4:47Speaker 4: we've kind of created our own brand name. And along
- 4:49Speaker 4: the way, I've kind of felt like we introduced some
- 4:51Speaker 4: ideas to them. They've run with it, and now we
- 4:54Speaker 4: just got to make sure that fired unburned too bright.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Sometimes those boys get a little out of control. And
- 4:59Speaker 4: again there is a line to walk. What's what's the
- 5:02Speaker 4: right way to do it? And what's not My question
- 5:03Speaker 4: is why is they're allowed to walk?
- 5:05Speaker 3: Why not just right in the sunset?
- 5:07Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, grab the chariots, be like Inchorest,
- 5:09Speaker 5: do you go to the sun?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Sure?
- 5:10Speaker 4: Well, you know we're on uh, we're televised here and
- 5:14Speaker 4: you fellas are popular, so you got to make sure
- 5:16Speaker 4: you don't say the wrong thing too many times. But no,
- 5:18Speaker 4: it's it's the in between the lines. To be fair
- 5:21Speaker 4: what you're saying. There are no rules, so I know
- 5:23Speaker 4: in baseball, yeah, I mean there's different versions in football
- 5:26Speaker 4: and baseball. If somebody bunts when they're winning up by
- 5:30Speaker 4: six runs, or someone throws inside, I mean, where's the rules.
- 5:33Speaker 4: It's you're between the lines and it's killer be killed.
- 5:36Speaker 4: And then at the end of the day, kind of
- 5:38Speaker 4: like UFC guys do when they dab each other up,
- 5:40Speaker 4: it's like, how the hell are they doing? They just
- 5:42Speaker 4: try to kill each other, but it's a mutual respect
- 5:44Speaker 4: for you know, hey, what just went on here? There
- 5:47Speaker 4: was something pure there and almost kind of primal that
- 5:50Speaker 4: we are getting, you know, getting into it.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And now it's over.
- 5:53Speaker 5: When you say, like Bunny, when you're of six round
- 5:55Speaker 5: of six runs, like, what are some of the like.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Unspoken rules of you just don't do that? Maybe maybe
- 6:02Speaker 3: you guys do.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what's interesting, you know, Like you said, why
- 6:05Speaker 4: is there align that they're unwritten so there is no
- 6:08Speaker 4: actual book. So it's it's kind of gentlemen's game party
- 6:10Speaker 4: that's kind of all up to perception. And you know,
- 6:13Speaker 4: I don't think you know, you want to be sending
- 6:17Speaker 4: guys from second base on a borderline call to score
- 6:19Speaker 4: if you're already up ten twelve runs. I think it's
- 6:22Speaker 4: just you know, not putting to the pedal of the
- 6:24Speaker 4: metal too much if it's.
- 6:26Speaker 3: You know, a big league blower team.
- 6:27Speaker 4: But you know, otherwise, you know, it's like Batista hits
- 6:31Speaker 4: that homer against the Rangers and throws his bats. If
- 6:34Speaker 4: you don't want him to throw his bath, then don't
- 6:35Speaker 4: give up a home run, you know, if you had
- 6:37Speaker 4: to ball that far in that situation. To me, you
- 6:40Speaker 4: can do whatever you want. And if you're the opponent
- 6:42Speaker 4: and you don't like it, then do something about it.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Well, they do do something about it.
- 6:45Speaker 5: The next time he's up at bet next time you
- 6:47Speaker 5: guys plays touches little chin music one in the ribs
- 6:51Speaker 5: real quick.
- 6:52Speaker 3: When is the time that do you in baseball? Is
- 6:54Speaker 3: like that?
- 6:54Speaker 5: In college baseball? Do you guys kind of give him
- 6:57Speaker 5: the Hey, this dude's been.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Talking no one, No, it really doesn't go on on
- 7:01Speaker 4: at our level. I mean I saw one of our
- 7:04Speaker 4: juco commits. I went down and watched him, and he
- 7:05Speaker 4: actually hit a kid in the helmet and the first
- 7:07Speaker 4: base coach yelled, what the I think I can say.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah, Gause, what the fuck are you doing?
- 7:11Speaker 4: And he basically stormed onto the field, and you know,
- 7:14Speaker 4: the kid just had one get away. I mean these
- 7:16Speaker 4: guys that that's just not a part of our game
- 7:18Speaker 4: as much now. I think in the big leagues maybe
- 7:20Speaker 4: a little bit. You saw Lindor get hit in the head,
- 7:22Speaker 4: but I really don't feel like there was intent there.
- 7:25Speaker 3: There's too much money involved.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Plus nowadays, instead of like George brutt Brett.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Playing for the for the Royals his whole career, you might.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Get traded the next day and be on that guy's
- 7:34Speaker 4: team that you just threw at.
- 7:35Speaker 3: So you know, it's wild like that.
- 7:38Speaker 5: The trades are crazier like in football. I don't know
- 7:41Speaker 5: when the trades are, but when football is week A
- 7:43Speaker 5: by week A, you can't trade anybody anymore.
- 7:46Speaker 4: So how's it working baseball? No, it's deeper into the
- 7:47Speaker 4: year in baseball. And two, when you come up through
- 7:50Speaker 4: the minor leagues, you might have played with all these
- 7:52Speaker 4: guys because there's a bunch of trades that may go
- 7:54Speaker 4: on throughout a guy's career, just trying to make it up,
- 7:57Speaker 4: you know, through the ranks and then to now all
- 8:01Speaker 4: these guys like Bryce Harper. First time I ever saw
- 8:03Speaker 4: him was at the Area Code games. It's where all
- 8:05Speaker 4: the best players go. Well, they all become buddies, especially
- 8:08Speaker 4: on social media now too, so as intense and competitive
- 8:12Speaker 4: is as much money as there is out there.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I think at the end of the day, all these
- 8:15Speaker 3: guys are kind of buddies. I mean Drew.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Gilbert again, maybe the most hated or the villain leader
- 8:20Speaker 4: of our team. Yeah, trust me, you would, but he
- 8:24Speaker 4: played on Team USA. So there's the best player from
- 8:27Speaker 4: Florida and the best player from Georgia and they all
- 8:29Speaker 4: get to know him and they all like him.
- 8:30Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:31Speaker 2: The my concho bit is that something that was premeditated?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Is did you just watch Talladega Knights recently or was
- 8:37Speaker 1: that just off the top and you're having fun.
- 8:39Speaker 4: No, I need to watch Talladega Knights, but soon, but
- 8:42Speaker 4: you haven't seen. I feel it's proper to visualize or
- 8:47Speaker 4: see that every month or so.
- 8:48Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Yeah, but those in game interviews like I can't believe,
- 8:55Speaker 4: like a guy like Saban, like the halftime interview or
- 8:58Speaker 4: right before kickoff, but I know they have to do it.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But it's cool when you're watching on TV.
- 9:04Speaker 4: But when you have to do it in the dugout
- 9:05Speaker 4: and like your guys are hitting or pitching it, it's
- 9:07Speaker 4: pretty it's distracting. And so I had a lot of
- 9:12Speaker 4: emotions boiling in my body and that was just kind
- 9:15Speaker 4: of what came out. I say a lot of dumb
- 9:16Speaker 4: things sometimes because you got the Italian temper going.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You got that, you got just Italian.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Issues.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it's a good it's a good alibi. Yeah, no,
- 9:30Speaker 4: nothing premeditated, just question. And Chris Burke, who was a
- 9:34Speaker 4: legendary player here, works for ESPN. He was the one
- 9:36Speaker 4: conducting the interview, and I just have a level of
- 9:38Speaker 4: comfort with him. So it's kind of like us sitting here,
- 9:43Speaker 4: average talking.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I got.
- 9:45Speaker 4: That's my first f wort. I think with me, that
- 9:46Speaker 4: kind of feels good. Let's just started letting him fly.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Now you know what I'm saying, you know, all the
- 9:57Speaker 5: stereotypical thing doing, he's just disrespecting.
- 10:00Speaker 3: He can't help, but he's just telling you exactly.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 3: There, anytime you have an interview, we'll pioneer that for you.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Nobody get mad at him. Just we do your interview,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and just what.
- 10:10Speaker 4: I appreciate that if you do a little history, you
- 10:12Speaker 4: probably need to pass some things up between uh, a
- 10:14Speaker 4: fast food restaurant and myself.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, what is that?
- 10:18Speaker 2: You dive into that?
- 10:19Speaker 4: Well, you know, after a game and my stomach was
- 10:22Speaker 4: in notts kind of like you you know, would be.
- 10:24Speaker 4: If you ate it up, you can pick whichever one
- 10:26Speaker 4: you want. I you know, and I said that out loud.
- 10:29Speaker 4: And they happen to be one of our sponsors.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So that's so you don't want to say the name
- 10:34Speaker 3: because there's still a sponsor.
- 10:35Speaker 4: No, I've already written enough apology rhyme with uh No,
- 10:39Speaker 4: I don't want to say raising Kenes, not not at all,
- 10:44Speaker 4: love Kenes right right up the road, and so are
- 10:46Speaker 4: we able to say we can leave it at that?
- 10:47Speaker 1: From that that is a smart move. Hey, you already
- 10:51Speaker 1: apologize to me already back there. He's got to he's
- 10:53Speaker 1: got to stay true.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I gotta find a way to get to make up
- 10:56Speaker 4: with last night's empire.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So that's on my to do list. But we're gonna
- 10:59Speaker 3: I don't you.
- 11:00Speaker 5: See him pretty frequently the same ones?
- 11:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you do?
- 11:03Speaker 4: And no it is, and and you'd like to think like,
- 11:07Speaker 4: hey man, when you're in your you know, garb you're
- 11:09Speaker 4: wearing or whatever, and I'm in uniform. Were these characters
- 11:13Speaker 4: and then outside like I don't really care. I don't
- 11:16Speaker 4: know how you guys were as teammates. But you know,
- 11:18Speaker 4: sometimes it's hard to differentiate. You know, maybe you don't
- 11:22Speaker 4: respect a teammate as much, but off the field, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 4: he's a civilian or he's just a dude. You know.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I love that a civil Yeah, I tell you what
- 11:30Speaker 1: he's got the Italian and he reminds me like Coach Bo.
- 11:32Speaker 1: He kind of blacks out as he's out there coaching.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I don't know if you're familiar with Coach Bo Palini
- 11:37Speaker 1: very very you guys probably running the same, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: mob guys and stuff like that. I didn't know where
- 11:43Speaker 1: I was going with that, making.
- 11:45Speaker 5: I do want to know a little bit something about
- 11:47Speaker 5: you were bringing up Bonterio, Missouri, where will when we
- 11:49Speaker 5: went to school?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, before this, I want to hear a little he.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Goes you went to North County and I'm like, how
- 11:55Speaker 1: the fuck do you know about North County?
- 11:56Speaker 2: And then you're like, stop, save it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Well, I'm from Saint Louis, and so the big thing there,
- 12:01Speaker 4: right or wrong, is where'd you go to high school?
- 12:03Speaker 4: That's the first question everybody asked someone in high school.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So I know where you guys went.
- 12:07Speaker 4: And because the recruiting rules, I can't speak too much
- 12:10Speaker 4: about your high school.
- 12:11Speaker 3: But oh.
- 12:14Speaker 4: There are studs out there very good relationship there with
- 12:18Speaker 4: their best player.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Why. Okay, you can't speak too much about his school
- 12:22Speaker 1: because of what kind of rules school.
- 12:24Speaker 4: If a kid commits but he's not signed, you can't
- 12:27Speaker 4: say anything.
- 12:28Speaker 1: But I can say, so there's a kid who's committed
- 12:29Speaker 1: at the said school. But we can't say the school.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Can I say the school? You can't go to school.
- 12:33Speaker 3: We can't say school. Shepperl High School. Okay, yeah, that's
- 12:37Speaker 3: a great school. We just can't say from Shepperal. Studs
- 12:40Speaker 3: out there, well, he can't say shepherd can't We can't
- 12:42Speaker 3: even ask that. We just say we're just we can't
- 12:45Speaker 3: talk about it.
- 12:46Speaker 2: But you went to Shepperal. I went to chper got
- 12:48Speaker 2: you outstanding school.
- 12:50Speaker 3: A lot of good players out of that, A lot of.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Good players in that area. Arizona baseball solid.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's a nice deal. Out, so Ian I
- 12:57Speaker 4: coached at University of Missouri. Ian Kinsler was on the
- 12:59Speaker 4: first team that I coached and what the years in Missouri? Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 4: ninety nine two is a player and then I was
- 13:06Speaker 4: there until eleven as a coach.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Were you there with?
- 13:08Speaker 3: Uh?
- 13:10Speaker 4: That's why we were gonna bring up so he has
- 13:13Speaker 4: a coach hype recruiting story.
- 13:15Speaker 3: He doesn't know you.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Said his name. I wasn't gonna say this. I was
- 13:18Speaker 4: gonna go fast forward. We can believe we can bleep
- 13:20Speaker 4: that out too. The reason we bleep it out here's why.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So his dad, I'm very familiar. I'm very familiar with
- 13:26Speaker 4: that family. His dad was my football coach growing up.
- 13:29Speaker 4: He would was a stud player in high school. I'm sure,
- 13:32Speaker 4: like obviously he went and pitched.
- 13:33Speaker 1: At Missou, But basically I was like in fourth, fifth,
- 13:38Speaker 1: sixth grade just terrorizing the fields of Bonte, Missouri.
- 13:40Speaker 2: I mean I was a savage and.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Uh savage and every Friday or if it was a
- 13:47Speaker 1: Saturday day game, Uh, his dad would take me. He
- 13:50Speaker 1: would drive a couple of US players to go watch
- 13:53Speaker 1: them play North County play because North County was a
- 13:54Speaker 1: good football team too. But it was like that dude
- 13:57Speaker 1: in high school or believe was that dad dude in
- 14:00Speaker 1: high school?
- 14:03Speaker 3: Said?
- 14:04Speaker 5: Was that dude in high school? As a player or
- 14:06Speaker 5: was he like slant what we talking about here?
- 14:08Speaker 1: As an athlete, He's a good good football player, good
- 14:10Speaker 1: baseball player, small, smaller to could sling it like you
- 14:13Speaker 1: wouldn't think he could sling it.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I have a fastball and stuff because he's not tall
- 14:17Speaker 2: and linking all that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But he was just a stud stud person that he
- 14:20Speaker 1: had like a he had a story that we can.
- 14:22Speaker 4: Yeah, you asked coach Hype about a recruiting story. I
- 14:25Speaker 4: was fortunate enough to be listening in, and I immediately thought,
- 14:29Speaker 4: because you were the one asking the question, well I
- 14:30Speaker 4: got a recruiting story for you.
- 14:32Speaker 3: Because I'm really young.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I begged the coach to let me be the volunteer coach,
- 14:37Speaker 4: you know, just unpaid coach. And after a year, a
- 14:40Speaker 4: recruiting coordinator leaves and I eventually get the job at
- 14:45Speaker 4: a really young age, don't know what I'm doing, and
- 14:46Speaker 4: I take the baton from him. From this kid we're recruiting,
- 14:49Speaker 4: He's like the first thing you need to do is
- 14:51Speaker 4: kind of finish the task getting this guy committed. So
- 14:55Speaker 4: I don't want to say he's the first player I
- 14:56Speaker 4: recruited because I don't want that label.
- 14:58Speaker 3: But he went to that high school, North County.
- 15:01Speaker 4: You're the one saying his name, so he was a
- 15:03Speaker 4: part of You're the one. He was a part of
- 15:07Speaker 4: the first recruiting class we ever had, along with Max
- 15:09Speaker 4: Scherzer and some other stood. Maxim actually threw a combined
- 15:15Speaker 4: no hitter against Texas Tech.
- 15:17Speaker 3: The only problem is later in the year stabbed a guy.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Ship That was a twist I didn't see and like, no,
- 15:26Speaker 4: ship stabbed again like a good slider, and like, hey,
- 15:30Speaker 4: I stabbed him. That's a baseball term with a knight
- 15:32Speaker 4: he used to and he stabbed it trying trying.
- 15:36Speaker 3: To take a life party right yes, out in the lawn.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Fortunately I wasn't there. I was still That was a
- 15:44Speaker 3: that was for us.
- 15:45Speaker 1: That was a monster deal because again I'm close with
- 15:48Speaker 1: that family. Like this player that we're talking about, I
- 15:51Speaker 1: like his dad would say, hey, uh, he would say,
- 15:55Speaker 1: hang with Wilford day, take me along with him.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I'm a younger cat looking up to this dude.
- 16:00Speaker 3: When this all happened, when I'm thinking, holy shit, when
- 16:03Speaker 3: he stabbed the guy and you're like, maybe I gotta
- 16:04Speaker 3: stab it.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Yeah, Like if I'm around if I Yeah, I'm saying
- 16:07Speaker 6: if I'm around him in high school, I'm like, as
- 16:10Speaker 6: a young kid, I'm wanting to think, Oh, he's like
- 16:11Speaker 6: an older brother type guy to where I can fit
- 16:13Speaker 6: in and hang around everybody else.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Okay, So he was at a house party and he
- 16:16Speaker 3: stabbed somebody.
- 16:17Speaker 5: Yeah, there was the person. The person did not die, No,
- 16:20Speaker 5: they did not. And the altercation was over a girl.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I think.
- 16:23Speaker 4: So you gotta assume like it's kind of getting away
- 16:27Speaker 4: lady night and there's beverages. It was one of those
- 16:29Speaker 4: deals where this is the main house party, but there's
- 16:33Speaker 4: kind of some offset ones, you know, where you cross
- 16:35Speaker 4: the street and so there's some sort of back and
- 16:37Speaker 4: forth between the house. But I'll tell you what, that's
- 16:39Speaker 4: a tragic deal. Fortunately the person didn't die. We're a
- 16:42Speaker 4: University of Texas and we get a big third out
- 16:45Speaker 4: and our guys are hooting and hollering out of the
- 16:46Speaker 4: dugout and it kind of gets quiet for a second
- 16:48Speaker 4: and some some old fan for Texas goes which one
- 16:52Speaker 4: of you boys now and there stabbed.
- 16:53Speaker 3: That poor kid.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And he's sitting on the bench there in the.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Dug point he had been excused.
- 17:00Speaker 4: It is later in the year, and just like he
- 17:01Speaker 4: was excused, he was pulled out of his ass, was
- 17:03Speaker 4: pulled out of there.
- 17:06Speaker 3: That poor that poor boy.
- 17:07Speaker 4: And uh it, it was comedy in a in a
- 17:10Speaker 4: weird way.
- 17:11Speaker 5: So yeah, uh yeah, like the Joker comedy for sure,
- 17:16Speaker 5: that's wild, that's fucking crazy. But so did he get convicted?
- 17:19Speaker 3: Is he in jail now? He among us?
- 17:23Speaker 4: Charges were dropped, So he really didn't stab somebody allegedly
- 17:29Speaker 4: just from the story, just like netted anybody.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Yeah, he's having a good old time right now.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'll tell you he's a stud. I'm talking engineers,
- 17:37Speaker 1: very smart. I mean you recruited almost murdered he's very
- 17:40Speaker 1: smart boy. Yeah, yeah, for sure he did. But he
- 17:43Speaker 1: didn't murder anybody.
- 17:44Speaker 3: What a fucking story, man, did you recruit Aaron Blunt? Yeah?
- 17:49Speaker 2: He was at he was.
- 17:55Speaker 3: He was one of those cats. He was a lefty lank.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He was a stud, but just didn't one of those
- 17:59Speaker 1: dudes that's like he had a huge opportunity and that
- 18:01Speaker 1: he was like a hem, was like a too cool
- 18:02Speaker 1: of a guy, like went too hard, partied way too hard,
- 18:05Speaker 1: way too much me that information ahead of time? What
- 18:09Speaker 1: have if you would have recruited me to play baseball
- 18:11Speaker 1: at missoo. No, I mean I played baseball growing up,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but I wasn't at this level that there. I mean
- 18:16Speaker 1: I wasn't baseball player. Worked pretty well for you, Yeah, yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 1: we went was the right sport. We played at the.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Old Nebraska Baseball Stadium the last year was there. It
- 18:25Speaker 4: was a piece of crap and it was next right
- 18:26Speaker 4: next to the football stadium. Yeah, And we pulled into
- 18:29Speaker 4: the parking lot and we were able to sneak in.
- 18:33Speaker 4: We were waiting for the coaches to meet coach Da
- 18:35Speaker 4: Van Horns, a legend. He was there at the time.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I worked for him at Arkansas.
- 18:38Speaker 4: And we're waiting on the coaches to decide if we're
- 18:40Speaker 4: going to play or not in the rain, and we
- 18:42Speaker 4: snuck into the football stadium and played. We had an
- 18:44Speaker 4: empty soda bottle and we played like a kind of
- 18:47Speaker 4: I mean, we wanted to play in that place. The
- 18:49Speaker 4: history was insane, Oh yeah, especially for guys at our age.
- 18:52Speaker 3: One of the most story progress.
- 18:53Speaker 1: What a small world, Yeah, what a small world talking
- 18:56Speaker 1: just just hair.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But yeah, BoNT Missouri.
- 18:58Speaker 3: The place to man.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I wish Aaron would have been a He was a stud.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm yeah, he was awesome. I just feel like, in
- 19:05Speaker 1: my opinion, he probably party too hard. You might know
- 19:08Speaker 1: more once he got to college, but he was just
- 19:10Speaker 1: a study. He was like an All American in high school.
- 19:12Speaker 1: He could sling it, bro, he could hit, he could
- 19:14Speaker 1: do all the stuff lefty, so you know, he had
- 19:16Speaker 1: movement on the ball. You know, you know all the language.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I don't know all the language, but yeah, I mean
- 19:20Speaker 1: it's some.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I don't know. It's interesting.
- 19:22Speaker 4: A lot of guys, you know, maybe follow the Tom
- 19:25Speaker 4: Brady method and never eat a carb or any of
- 19:27Speaker 4: that thing.
- 19:28Speaker 3: But I gotta believe.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Moment.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Yeah, when Tom Brady comes on, we have to it.
- 19:36Speaker 2: We take a moment of silence.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Well, you got to be able to manage that deal.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I mean you got to be able to have fun,
- 19:41Speaker 4: but you also got to be able to handle business. Yeah,
- 19:43Speaker 4: it's been interesting coaching some guys that maybe can't do
- 19:46Speaker 4: both and other guys, you know, are good at keeping
- 19:49Speaker 4: everything organized the handling it.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Can you usually tell when you were in a recruiting
- 19:52Speaker 5: process and you hear things about kids like, oh, hey,
- 19:55Speaker 5: this kid likes to get after.
- 19:56Speaker 3: It a little bit. Does that worry you or you
- 19:58Speaker 3: kind of like, I just got to make sure I
- 19:59Speaker 3: keep an eye this kid once he gets here. Yeah, no,
- 20:01Speaker 3: I don't mind using the kid's name.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Nick Schmidt was a kid in high school from Saint Louis,
- 20:05Speaker 4: and every time I called him, he was at a
- 20:07Speaker 4: part like maybe it was just a basement with twelve,
- 20:09Speaker 4: but there was always girls and guys in the background,
- 20:11Speaker 4: and he was kind of that personality. It was my
- 20:14Speaker 4: first year coach when I was young, and he walked
- 20:16Speaker 4: by me at the field and I'm supposed to be
- 20:17Speaker 4: the coach, coach fight Tello and he's the recruit and
- 20:20Speaker 4: he smacked me on the ass. It's like, what's up, coach,
- 20:22Speaker 4: b oh.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:24Speaker 5: So imagine having that kind of confidence with the coach.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I know, dude.
- 20:27Speaker 4: So we passed on Nick Schmidt because of that, or
- 20:29Speaker 4: I did. He was the first fresher, but well just
- 20:32Speaker 4: the whole he was a first rounder, but I was
- 20:40Speaker 4: I was accurate in my read. He went to Arkansas
- 20:43Speaker 4: and a guy named Dave Jorn was a pitching coach
- 20:45Speaker 4: and he had to kind of heart to heart with
- 20:47Speaker 4: him and basically kind of saved the kid's soul a
- 20:49Speaker 4: little like.
- 20:50Speaker 3: I don't think he became you know.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Where he never had another beer or anything, but really
- 20:54Speaker 4: kind of got more. So I was kind of accurate
- 20:56Speaker 4: in my read, and he went to the right place
- 20:57Speaker 4: a lot of times. With the recruiting, it's about and
- 21:00Speaker 4: up with the spot that was meant for you to
- 21:01Speaker 4: be at, not necessarily the best place in the world.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Whatever helps you sleep for missing on that first round,
- 21:06Speaker 3: the first round, or he ain't the only one. So yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 3: no doubt. That's a wild deal.
- 21:11Speaker 5: As far as atmosphere goes, I've been I've only been
- 21:13Speaker 5: a one college baseball game that was an LSU. Yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 5: phenomenal time. I think I'm a big LSU fan sure
- 21:19Speaker 5: because of that. What's the atmosphere like here? If stands packed,
- 21:23Speaker 5: but then after it's bananas. I mean, it's a hornet's
- 21:26Speaker 5: nest over there. I think a lot of it has
- 21:28Speaker 5: to do with our field.
- 21:30Speaker 4: You see where we're at, We're kind of landlocked, so
- 21:31Speaker 4: everything's real close and quaint if you want to call
- 21:33Speaker 4: it that. And then our fan base, you can stereotype
- 21:37Speaker 4: LSU's fan base is going to tailgate and they're going
- 21:39Speaker 4: to do this and that, and they're going to have
- 21:41Speaker 4: crawfish occasions.
- 21:43Speaker 5: Do it a little different. Yeah, the open container law,
- 21:45Speaker 5: they're allowed to do whatever they want.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 21:47Speaker 4: And I think each team in our league has phenomenal fans,
- 21:50Speaker 4: but they're all again, you could kind of describe them
- 21:52Speaker 4: in four or five words and be fairly accurate. And
- 21:55Speaker 4: our fans are just rambunctious, maybe more than anybody in
- 21:58Speaker 4: the league. I mean, you guys were talking about the
- 21:59Speaker 4: game against Mississippi.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Did you love that? You're not you're not a football coach.
- 22:03Speaker 1: You can kind of he Yes, he's got to tew
- 22:05Speaker 1: the line a little bit more.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Are you watching your life?
- 22:07Speaker 3: You're free to say whatever you want. Okay, Okay, I'm
- 22:10Speaker 3: gonna words. Yes, social media, he'll just be canceled in
- 22:20Speaker 3: the morning. Yeah, okay, a couple of days, a couple day.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Here's what I was thinking when you guys talked about
- 22:25Speaker 4: it with the coach hype is I don't think anyone
- 22:27Speaker 4: in the world wants objects thrown at another individual because
- 22:31Speaker 4: you never know what crazy thing could happen. But you
- 22:34Speaker 4: could see where the fans frustration came from. If you
- 22:36Speaker 4: were watching so they acted, you know, a little bit
- 22:39Speaker 4: out of line, or they acted out of line.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Bottom line. Here's what I'll say about vall stands.
- 22:44Speaker 4: If if the referees at any point And again I
- 22:46Speaker 4: don't coach football. I don't know who those guys were,
- 22:48Speaker 4: so you can't as sue.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Me or that's right, sponsor.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Yeah, all I had to say was the next thing
- 22:55Speaker 4: that's thrown on this field were penalized in Tennessee fifteen
- 22:58Speaker 4: yards and no one would have moved an inch.
- 23:00Speaker 3: That's how our fans are.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Yeah, but what about Mississippi fans that might be there'd
- 23:03Speaker 5: be like, oh, easy, that's that.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Is that's a good point, and that's true.
- 23:07Speaker 4: But I think they're gonna get a haymaker thrown to
- 23:09Speaker 4: the jaw off if they throw something and the next
- 23:12Speaker 4: like that, Hey.
- 23:12Speaker 3: That's the Italian of them.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna get a baseball back to the news.
- 23:21Speaker 3: That was my take on it.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I mean, there's always a counter argument, but that would
- 23:24Speaker 4: have been my perfect solution. To call me down our
- 23:27Speaker 4: fans because they're rowdy, but they don't they they don't
- 23:30Speaker 4: want to hurt our team.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I can tell you that. Yeah, volunteer fans world deep.
- 23:33Speaker 5: They were, ah, we're part of this thing with barstool
- 23:36Speaker 5: with it's like if your seed makes it into the
- 23:38Speaker 5: sweet sixteen in basketball, that we we you get a
- 23:42Speaker 5: certain amount of money. And I we were playing Michigan
- 23:44Speaker 5: was playing Tennessee, and Michigan beat Tennessee to go in
- 23:47Speaker 5: to the Sweet sixteen. And I tweeted them like the
- 23:49Speaker 5: haters are sick right now with Juwan Howard slapping the
- 23:51Speaker 5: tee I caught, I caught fucking hands via Twitter. I
- 23:55Speaker 5: was catching hands left in right now. I was biting
- 23:58Speaker 5: the hand that fed me. Because obviously a lot ofvolunteer
- 24:00Speaker 5: fans are Tennessee Titan fans, but they go hard in
- 24:03Speaker 5: the paint where I almost had an issue, like an apology,
- 24:05Speaker 5: like hey listen, you guys roll deep like that.
- 24:08Speaker 2: It's a formal apology, formal like he's it the sponsor.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Better than the apology is just wearing that hat that's
- 24:14Speaker 4: a class is nice big time?
- 24:16Speaker 3: Was that?
- 24:16Speaker 2: What was it?
- 24:17Speaker 3: Pete's.
- 24:18Speaker 5: We're at pete Yeah. Also great food at Pete's. And
- 24:22Speaker 5: this kid he asked for a photo and I was like,
- 24:24Speaker 5: I love your hat. He's like thanks, and I said
- 24:26Speaker 5: I'll give you a hundred bucks for that hat, and
- 24:28Speaker 5: he said yep, and it was made done.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Deal like that, he took it off his head. I
- 24:34Speaker 3: readjusted the hat because the boy's got a bit of
- 24:35Speaker 3: a dome.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Smacked that thing on top and it was It's been
- 24:38Speaker 5: smooth sailing with this hat ever since.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Other than Hijahan.
- 24:41Speaker 5: A couple of your questions as far as like when
- 24:44Speaker 5: stadiums go, what's in the sec take the volunteers out
- 24:48Speaker 5: of it? What's the most hype place to play?
- 24:50Speaker 4: Well, Arkansas was where I worked before I came here.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Their fans are like Cardinal fans, uh, just they know
- 24:56Speaker 4: the game.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Well, they're really losing. Sam Louis is really getting lots
- 24:59Speaker 3: of shout out right now.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's a massive, massive stadium. But really, I
- 25:05Speaker 4: mean there's other there's other towns that could throw out arguments.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Starkville probably has the second or the first, you know,
- 25:12Speaker 4: nicest stadium, and.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Then Oxford where we just played.
- 25:15Speaker 4: I mean it's not normal to go in there and
- 25:17Speaker 4: win and Lane Kiffin comes and throws out the golf
- 25:19Speaker 4: ball and they're they're going crazy. Yeah, I think I
- 25:24Speaker 4: think he took some heat for that, but I think
- 25:27Speaker 4: it was all in good fun and.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Via social media because he's not scared and respect.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I respect that.
- 25:35Speaker 4: It's one of the reasons he's a good coach. I mean,
- 25:38Speaker 4: you know, he's on the edge at all times, and
- 25:39Speaker 4: I guess you're not. You're taking up too much space?
- 25:41Speaker 2: Should we do the Duke Cannon question of the day?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Run? Sure?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Home run coat?
- 25:48Speaker 3: What is okay?
- 25:48Speaker 5: So?
- 25:49Speaker 4: What is the home run coat? Fan question from Jack
- 25:51Speaker 4: McPherson's shout out.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Jack, No free shout outs coach Eler. What's the question Jack?
- 25:55Speaker 1: It's it's coming from Jacket's.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Coming from Jack. Coach home run cove. Yeah, a coat
- 26:02Speaker 4: coat lay guys. You know, it all started with the Rangers.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I think with Josh Hampton's on our team. If they
- 26:10Speaker 4: hit a double, they would kind of do a sign
- 26:12Speaker 4: and now all of a sudden, I don't think it
- 26:14Speaker 4: was a gang sign.
- 26:15Speaker 3: It was more of just a gesture, gotcha.
- 26:17Speaker 4: And uh ever since then, if you hit a double,
- 26:20Speaker 4: you got to do something, and it turned into Batista's
- 26:22Speaker 4: you know, batflip, and now everyone's got to do something.
- 26:24Speaker 3: They had a home run. It seems like so.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Our guys came up with a hat they would wear,
- 26:27Speaker 4: which became really popular.
- 26:29Speaker 3: The fans wanted to see it stay.
- 26:31Speaker 4: This team wanted to be kind of their own team,
- 26:33Speaker 4: have their own identity, so they carried over the hat
- 26:36Speaker 4: theme but added on to it by having this.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Fur or mink. I've never even touched it.
- 26:40Speaker 4: It's got to be nasty by now, but it's a
- 26:42Speaker 4: it's a it's a coat. There could be a woman's
- 26:45Speaker 4: or a man's coat. You know, they could wear in
- 26:47Speaker 4: a seventies party.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and they throw it on the guy who hit
- 26:51Speaker 4: the home run. When he does so, he kind of looks,
- 26:53Speaker 4: you know, pimped out or whatever you say. And they
- 26:55Speaker 4: love it. I think the fans like it. You see
- 26:57Speaker 4: little kids wearing these, you know, mocked up coats now
- 27:00Speaker 4: so is awesome. Yeah, it's something that's unique to their team,
- 27:03Speaker 4: and the fans have caught on and again if opponents
- 27:06Speaker 4: got things they do when they celebrate nowadays, if you're wasting.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Energy on that, you're you're wasting energy.
- 27:10Speaker 2: What's the what's the heat? Say?
- 27:12Speaker 3: Daddy hat, daddy? You get a daddy daddy hat? Yea
- 27:16Speaker 3: swim there you go right there, that's bought this. Have
- 27:19Speaker 3: a guy fore hundred dollars to Actually you're gonna be
- 27:21Speaker 3: they they print more every day, Coach, they print more
- 27:25Speaker 3: every single day. That's true. We're out here hunting.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I'd like to know where what that kid's gonna do
- 27:30Speaker 4: with this hundred boney game this morning? What kind of
- 27:32Speaker 4: think Jack?
- 27:33Speaker 2: No questions bow tonight?
- 27:36Speaker 1: He literally he was so stoked to meet and he's
- 27:38Speaker 1: like there was like, hey, dude, I love the heck
- 27:40Speaker 1: kind I bought off you And he was like sure,
- 27:42Speaker 1: He's I'll give you a hundred dollars.
- 27:43Speaker 2: He's like, okay, Yeah, that was it.
- 27:45Speaker 3: There was no made zero bargain.
- 27:47Speaker 4: You feel like I could have got away with fifty, but
- 27:50Speaker 4: you've asked for change and he got it, and it's
- 27:52Speaker 4: like it becomes a hold.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Ask for change, Well, yeah it's fifty.
- 27:55Speaker 3: I gotta got hundreds on me.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah you get you know what I mean? Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Last question today brought to us by actually have a
- 28:05Speaker 3: question too, but go ahead. Last segment of the.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Day Less segment of the Day brought to us by
- 28:09Speaker 1: Duke Cannon Not for clowns.
- 28:10Speaker 2: We have an insane and il deal for you.
- 28:12Speaker 1: We're bust with the boys, are sponsoring you with Duke
- 28:14Speaker 1: Cannon Deoduran. You're looking at it right now, the dry ice,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and I'm not shooting you.
- 28:18Speaker 2: You put that on your pits.
- 28:19Speaker 1: It's like cool little breeze missed throughout the entire day,
- 28:22Speaker 1: if you're the entire day.
- 28:23Speaker 3: How this smells? It smells, how you look fantastic?
- 28:26Speaker 2: There you go.
- 28:26Speaker 1: That's exactly whats like going off of your recruiting stories.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Obviously it's hard to it's hard to top the stabbing one.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But what else you're telling us about a kid getting
- 28:36Speaker 1: mugged when you're on a recruiting trip. Do you have
- 28:39Speaker 1: something in the bank that you like to tell outside
- 28:41Speaker 1: of what we've already discussed.
- 28:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a That was a coach one where
- 28:45Speaker 4: we sent him to get a gatorry and he never
- 28:46Speaker 4: came back.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Poor fella. You know where were you preface?
- 28:50Speaker 2: Where were we at?
- 28:51Speaker 3: We were at the same place, coach I Will said
- 28:53Speaker 3: he was at. I I think coach I've said University
- 28:56Speaker 3: of Houston. We won't ask the university.
- 29:00Speaker 4: I got buddies worked there. Actually, that gas station is
- 29:02Speaker 4: no longer there in the area has been renovated. It's gentrified. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:06Speaker 4: so this is this is a while bat it happens,
- 29:08Speaker 4: but no, no, recruiting in general is wild. I wish
- 29:11Speaker 4: I had one that that really really stuck out. I know,
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know, for me, it's always interesting when you get
- 29:17Speaker 4: the kids on campus and they're walking around and then
- 29:21Speaker 4: you know, they go off with the guys, and then
- 29:23Speaker 4: the next morning you see who maybe hung out with
- 29:26Speaker 4: the guys a little too late at night. Yeah, and uh,
- 29:29Speaker 4: I've been a part of some morning meetings where guys
- 29:31Speaker 4: can't stay awake. But nothing, nothing sticks out too crazy
- 29:34Speaker 4: or where I'd want to throw anyone under the bus.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Although mister Scherzer I was not a full time coach
- 29:40Speaker 4: when I took him around on his official visit.
- 29:43Speaker 3: You were having a low. It was half fun, half coach.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 4: And so you guys went to Petez Diner. We went
- 29:47Speaker 4: to the diner in Columbia, Missouri, which is just the diner. Yeah,
- 29:51Speaker 4: and that is a lot to be And that's the
- 29:53Speaker 4: place that sealed a deal for arguably the best picture
- 29:56Speaker 4: in the world.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Wow, sealed the deal because of the night that you guys. Yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 3: we did. We did have a good one a little bit. Yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 3: strippers and cocaine type of vibe or no, that was
- 30:09Speaker 3: that was that inappropriate? I don't know, not know it
- 30:13Speaker 3: would have been nights, but it would have been.
- 30:22Speaker 4: They made me so uncomfortable. Anytime I've ever been in
- 30:24Speaker 4: a strip club, it's like do you want to dance?
- 30:25Speaker 2: It's like not really, you're for a dollar?
- 30:29Speaker 3: Oh you're so cute? Like okay, maybe, but like leave
- 30:31Speaker 3: me alone.
- 30:32Speaker 4: It's just I feel like I feel like it's when
- 30:34Speaker 4: a man comes on too strong to a woman at
- 30:35Speaker 4: a bar. It's the same thing. It's like, please let
- 30:37Speaker 4: me breathe, you know, let me work for it. A
- 30:39Speaker 4: little bit type of deal strippers, Am I right?
- 30:42Speaker 3: Uh?
- 30:42Speaker 5: My question glitterally for a uh college world series? What
- 30:48Speaker 5: would you do to bring that to the Tennessee volunteers?
- 30:52Speaker 5: What lengths would you go to?
- 30:54Speaker 4: I don't know if I do what coach Vrabel did,
- 30:56Speaker 4: Although I'm I really liked watching him as a player.
- 30:59Speaker 4: He's a little too and so I don't want to
- 31:00Speaker 4: cut off any appendages.
- 31:02Speaker 3: That I'd like to maybe use Italian. He's got dark hair.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Vrabel's kind of a I mean, he would know he's
- 31:10Speaker 3: got the dark hair, the tan skin, the big he's
- 31:12Speaker 3: got that, you know he does. I forget. It's an
- 31:15Speaker 3: Italian thing to do, but it's also a very Ohio
- 31:17Speaker 3: thing to do too.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Yeah, very smug he he uh. And I feel like
- 31:21Speaker 5: he used your appendage much more than Rabel does. What
- 31:23Speaker 5: I'm saying, he just absolutely put this kind of boxes
- 31:26Speaker 5: and playing.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Boy, he's just getting after it. He uh.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Yeah, he's got a son that's a really good baseball player. Yeah, Carder, Yeah,
- 31:32Speaker 4: you think should come here and play. I don't know,
- 31:34Speaker 4: you know, sometimes it's about body count in recruiting. We
- 31:37Speaker 4: we do things so in advance, like Champarrelle, that's way,
- 31:40Speaker 4: that's young.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Yeah, he said to school. I would not go Verabel.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I'd go Ronnie Lot I would I would let a
- 31:45Speaker 4: finger be taken off to go to the mall and a.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Certain finger, like would you go middle?
- 31:49Speaker 2: Would you go any of them?
- 31:50Speaker 3: Would you for pinky? I don't want to lose the
- 31:52Speaker 3: middle because would.
- 31:52Speaker 5: You go it's off too much? It makes your hand
- 31:55Speaker 5: look a way small. I'd probably go ring finger that
- 31:57Speaker 5: you keep the whole.
- 31:57Speaker 3: With yea in that pinky you can really just do
- 32:00Speaker 3: without really, Yeah, I don't know. I kind of like
- 32:03Speaker 3: this little guy. If you're a you can put your
- 32:05Speaker 3: toes on your thumbs?
- 32:08Speaker 2: Would you take your thumb off?
- 32:10Speaker 3: I don't think I go to It takes you down
- 32:11Speaker 3: the evolutionary.
- 32:12Speaker 2: You can't do that, no offensive thumb.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah, people, it's a it's a big thing.
- 32:17Speaker 2: It's a big crazy cancel.
- 32:18Speaker 5: Would you donate your entire salary to busting with the boys?
- 32:21Speaker 5: If you guys won a world serious speaking, just to
- 32:24Speaker 5: win the World Series for the volunteer for a national championship,
- 32:27Speaker 5: I would do that.
- 32:28Speaker 3: All right?
- 32:28Speaker 2: Then what do you make before Texas?
- 32:33Speaker 3: You guys got to set up another one of these
- 32:35Speaker 3: with the A D. I don't even know. I don't
- 32:37Speaker 3: even care. You don't know what you make? Oh he
- 32:39Speaker 3: knows all we know what you make.
- 32:42Speaker 2: We don't know what you make?
- 32:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I love it. Though you have been outstanding. I
- 32:46Speaker 5: appreciate you being a good sport.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Well, you guys make it easy my morning coffee after
- 32:50Speaker 4: a loss last night.
- 32:51Speaker 3: So hopefully we got good karma going into the weekend.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 32:55Speaker 5: We need bigger bat flips, We need more fans talking ship. Yes,
- 32:58Speaker 5: bring baseball back to what it needs to be and
- 33:00Speaker 5: all the.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Little kids and need to be buying the oversized coach.
- 33:02Speaker 1: We got to break the home run.
- 33:04Speaker 3: We got it. We got to make a bust in
- 33:06Speaker 3: baseball shirt for the boys. Uh balls.
- 33:09Speaker 2: We gotta do something.
- 33:11Speaker 3: We got we do something for football. We gotta do
- 33:12Speaker 3: some for baseball.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I am too.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I'm gonna start watching them. You cannon come in my way,
- 33:17Speaker 3: so we'll get you guys set up. All right, cool man,
- 33:19Speaker 3: that is a fair trade off. That sounds right. You
- 33:21Speaker 3: should give us something.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Coach shakes a lot.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Thank you, appreciate you.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
