- 0:23Speaker 1: Happy New Year, How we doing today?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Happy New Year?
- 0:26Speaker 4: Every New Year?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Twenty twenty six came a little quicker than I was expected,
- 0:31Speaker 3: real quick.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The Pirates should be happy that twenty twenty six has
- 0:36Speaker 2: finally arrived because only twenty five was not a good
- 0:39Speaker 2: year for the Buckos. And on this episode, we're going
- 0:41Speaker 2: to talk about how twenty twenty six can be a
- 0:43Speaker 2: better year, and it will be the New Year's Resolution
- 0:47Speaker 2: episode of Buco Territory.
- 0:49Speaker 1: But before we give our own.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Pirates new Year's resolutions, we want to take a quick
- 0:54Speaker 2: break to hear from our show's sponsor. This episode is
- 0:58Speaker 2: sponsored by So Many Angels, and profit founded by local
- 1:01Speaker 2: photographer Matt Myers that provides three professional photo experiences for
- 1:05Speaker 2: children facing cancer and other life altering medical diagnoses. Their
- 1:08Speaker 2: photo sessions are designed to help kids see themselves as strong, confident,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and heroic. The next Pittsburgh Experience is February first, and
- 1:15Speaker 2: they're currently looking for families who could benefit. Visit so
- 1:18Speaker 2: many Angels dot org to learn more, share the link
- 1:21Speaker 2: or find ways to support this incredible Pittsburgh nonprofit.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That's so many Angels dot org. All right, New.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Year's Resolution time, guys, before we dive in. Also, are
- 1:32Speaker 2: you are either of you big New Year's resolution guys?
- 1:37Speaker 1: No? Really, no, just just just live it every day. Yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I do change, you don't have to wait exactly.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I do like to set a list of goals for
- 1:47Speaker 2: myself every year, like right after the day after Christmas,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I kind of sit down on my notes app and
- 1:52Speaker 2: just think of like goals that I want to achieve.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I wouldn't say they're resolutions.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's more just like, let's see what I can do,
- 1:59Speaker 2: you know, accomplish the next year, which I think is
- 2:02Speaker 2: more of what this show is for the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 2:04Speaker 2: as well. Obviously, you know, a resolution means that you're
- 2:09Speaker 2: having to make a big change, and they do have
- 2:11Speaker 2: to make big changes, but all of these changes should
- 2:14Speaker 2: go toward one thing, and that's just being a better organization,
- 2:18Speaker 2: one that competes and gets to the postseason. So I'll
- 2:21Speaker 2: start off with mine first here and then you guys
- 2:24Speaker 2: can follow me. I want to stay off the field
- 2:30Speaker 2: for a minute, and my Pirates New Year's resolution should
- 2:33Speaker 2: be better rhetoric from the organization that starts from the
- 2:39Speaker 2: guy at the very top, Bob Nutting, to Travis Williams,
- 2:41Speaker 2: to Don Kelly, to the players, to everyone involved with
- 2:45Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Pirates. There needs to be different messaging. I
- 2:49Speaker 2: personally think less is more people have. When you've lost
- 2:54Speaker 2: this consistently for this long, you've said everything that you can.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Potentially there's no other way to frame it by just
- 3:02Speaker 2: simply going out there and saying we need to be better,
- 3:05Speaker 2: and this is the year where we have to show it.
- 3:08Speaker 2: That's it, That's all you really have to say. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: think that's the way you go about it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Here.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You look about you look at this past year. There
- 3:17Speaker 2: were a lot of quotes that did not age well.
- 3:20Speaker 2: From Pirate Fest, from spring training, from the regular season,
- 3:26Speaker 2: just winning on the margins, all of those things. You
- 3:30Speaker 2: don't need a catchy a catchy catchphrase.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You don't need.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't need to have a whole bunch of conviction.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You just need to just say, look, it's gonna be
- 3:43Speaker 2: different this year, and we have to prove it to you.
- 3:45Speaker 2: That's all it has to be. And I think that
- 3:48Speaker 2: that can also be the rhetoric here. If there are
- 3:52Speaker 2: any other off field blunders, right, God forbid we see
- 3:56Speaker 2: another Bucco bricks or a surf side.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Or anything like that.
- 4:01Speaker 2: But if that is the case, just simply say you know, hey,
- 4:06Speaker 2: we messed up, rather than fighting against the idea that
- 4:10Speaker 2: the pirates stepped in it again, by simply just saying
- 4:14Speaker 2: it happened, we need to be better.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Let's move on, it might just go better overall.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So guys, I'll let you both weigh in on my take. Now,
- 4:22Speaker 2: just better overall rhetoric. And again it's not necessarily just
- 4:26Speaker 2: on off the field stuff.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's just overall. The term talk is cheap. People seemingly
- 4:34Speaker 1: get mad at.
- 4:35Speaker 2: This franchise every time it decides to say anything. So
- 4:38Speaker 2: by simply keeping it short, sweetened to the point, our
- 4:41Speaker 2: focus is on winning and let that be what determines,
- 4:46Speaker 2: you know, how people handle or view your organizations.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think that might be the move to go here.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, just understanding that you're communicating with a fan base
- 4:55Speaker 3: that's had years decades of pens up frustration. You know,
- 5:00Speaker 3: Josh referenced it a couple episodes back talking actually on
- 5:04Speaker 3: the buck O BANNERD podcast you appeared on. You reference
- 5:07Speaker 3: that that twenty thirteen playoffs that was just the culmination
- 5:11Speaker 3: of all this frustration in that fan base. And I
- 5:13Speaker 3: think that's what this year is for the Pirates again.
- 5:15Speaker 3: And I think the fans can sense that that we're
- 5:18Speaker 3: we're getting back to competition, to being a competitive baseball club.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So acknowledging that, communicating with confidence when you're talking with
- 5:27Speaker 3: the fans, and acknowledging that, yeah, we messed up when
- 5:31Speaker 3: it happens, and just we're going to correct it, rather
- 5:35Speaker 3: than lingering on it, rather than just constantly belaboring the
- 5:39Speaker 3: point almost.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Just or by move on, yeah, or by anytime there's
- 5:43Speaker 2: a mess up where oh, well, look at the things
- 5:45Speaker 2: we have done, right. No one wants to hear that. No,
- 5:47Speaker 2: No one wants to hear. When you're in the wrong,
- 5:50Speaker 2: the worst thing you can do is highlight all of it.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But but but but yeah right, Yeah. When when you
- 5:55Speaker 2: piss off your significant other, the worst thing you can
- 5:58Speaker 2: do is tell them all the great things you've done.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, right, It's it's.
- 6:03Speaker 2: More just saying, hey, we screwed up, we're gonna be
- 6:06Speaker 2: better next time, and then you show how you're going
- 6:08Speaker 2: to be better for your actions. That's kind of the
- 6:10Speaker 2: approach that needs to be taken. To their credit, I
- 6:12Speaker 2: think so far this offseason, that's what it's been. There
- 6:15Speaker 2: has been a lot of talk about how they're all
- 6:17Speaker 2: in and they've made some big moves. We still haven't
- 6:20Speaker 2: the time of this recording, seen them spend substantial money
- 6:24Speaker 2: to where their payroll is going to, you know, exceed
- 6:28Speaker 2: what we thought it would be heading into the years.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Like they've done everything right up to this point. But
- 6:37Speaker 2: when something inevitably goes wrong, rather than highlighting the fact
- 6:41Speaker 2: that you just signed Ryan O'Hearn, that you traded for
- 6:45Speaker 2: Brandon Lao, like those are things you're supposed to do,
- 6:47Speaker 2: so just take accountability when you mess up and keep
- 6:50Speaker 2: pressing forward.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Well to go off of that the rhetoric, I agree
- 6:54Speaker 5: that is something that not just the Pirates, just sports
- 6:57Speaker 5: in general, but when you're dealing with the Pirates, says
- 7:00Speaker 5: one of the things that's always been a big divide
- 7:03Speaker 5: between not only the front office and this and the
- 7:06Speaker 5: fans but also front office and players because you're in
- 7:10Speaker 5: that clubhouse, you're putting on a uniform. You know what
- 7:12Speaker 5: your job is every day to go out there, compete,
- 7:14Speaker 5: do what you're supposed to. But we all got you know,
- 7:17Speaker 5: MLB trade rumors, you got MLB network, you got you know,
- 7:21Speaker 5: you're seeing different articles, You're seeing things that are said,
- 7:23Speaker 5: and there are some things that are said that in
- 7:25Speaker 5: the clubhouse everybody's like, man, that's not what they said
- 7:28Speaker 5: to us or vice versa.
- 7:29Speaker 4: And sometimes you know, or that might be a little
- 7:32Speaker 4: bit more than what they said.
- 7:33Speaker 5: When it's like, you know what, as you said, they've
- 7:36Speaker 5: had this whole talk is cheap thing to where they,
- 7:41Speaker 5: as you said, let your actions prove it. And a
- 7:44Speaker 5: lot of that is going to be felt by not
- 7:47Speaker 5: only the fans, but it'll be felt by the players
- 7:50Speaker 5: because at the end of the day, anybody can get
- 7:52Speaker 5: up there and talk and say, oh, we did this,
- 7:53Speaker 5: we did that. But at the end of the day,
- 7:55Speaker 5: the ones that are putting on a uniform can tell
- 7:58Speaker 5: if you're backing up your words, and the ones that
- 8:00Speaker 5: are coming and supporting in the stands, they can tell, Okay,
- 8:05Speaker 5: they said this one year, but they've been saying it
- 8:07Speaker 5: for the past fifteen and nothing's change. So to your point,
- 8:10Speaker 5: I agree, less is more. Don't say what you're gonna do,
- 8:13Speaker 5: because over the past years you've said what you're gonna
- 8:15Speaker 5: do and haven't done it.
- 8:16Speaker 4: So time is don't say it, just do it.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Earn your out of voice, earn your pats, send back,
- 8:22Speaker 2: don't do it for yourself.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So that's that's it.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Just better overall rhetoric as far as communicating with fans,
- 8:28Speaker 2: communicating with players, communicating when you mess up, and even
- 8:31Speaker 2: communicating when you don't mess up. Just be better on
- 8:34Speaker 2: how you communicate. And then when things go well, then
- 8:38Speaker 2: you get your flowers. You don't get them until that.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Josh, what's your New Year's resolution?
- 8:43Speaker 5: New year's resolution would be taking care of fundamentals. And
- 8:48Speaker 5: I'm going on the field because we sit here and
- 8:51Speaker 5: we talk about the game. Sports want to loss on margins,
- 8:55Speaker 5: and sometimes those margins are also one and loss on fundamentals.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Small things that we teach at a young age that
- 9:02Speaker 5: get overlooked. And when you got an organization like the
- 9:05Speaker 5: Pirates who has not spent a lot of money to
- 9:08Speaker 5: per se put the best product on the field, you
- 9:10Speaker 5: cannot overlooked. You cannot overlook how important it is to
- 9:13Speaker 5: have fundamentals no matter who your team is. But when
- 9:16Speaker 5: you don't put the best team out there, you really
- 9:19Speaker 5: can't overlook it. But this off season, obviously, right now
- 9:22Speaker 5: where we stand, they've made some good moves and looking
- 9:24Speaker 5: to maybe add a few more. But I think you
- 9:26Speaker 5: really need to hit home and say, just because we've
- 9:28Speaker 5: made moves to make our team better doesn't necessarily make
- 9:31Speaker 5: us better. It's got to start from the minute that
- 9:33Speaker 5: we go to spring training all the way, you know,
- 9:36Speaker 5: to our prep work, early work, whatever the case may be.
- 9:38Speaker 5: Fundamentals is something that you look at the team every
- 9:41Speaker 5: year that wins the World Series. There's something within that
- 9:44Speaker 5: season or that the fundamentals really shine. There are certain
- 9:48Speaker 5: things we look at the World Series with the Blue
- 9:50Speaker 5: Jays and the Dodgers. Ball gets caught under defense, fundamentals,
- 9:55Speaker 5: We talk about it, put your hands up. It ends
- 9:58Speaker 5: up being a double where you don't talk about those
- 10:00Speaker 5: fundamentals in the game. Oh, you go reach for the ball,
- 10:02Speaker 5: We're talking soon as you reach, they gonna keep running,
- 10:04Speaker 5: and not saying that that wins in loose game. But
- 10:06Speaker 5: that can be a prime example, Oh not running the
- 10:08Speaker 5: ball out, not beating out a double play, oh knowing
- 10:11Speaker 5: where to be on cuts and relays, pictures backing up
- 10:13Speaker 5: on you know, balls in the gap. These fundamentals are
- 10:17Speaker 5: things that we sit here. I don't like to sit
- 10:19Speaker 5: and you know, compare with what we did back in
- 10:21Speaker 5: the past. Because all sports, basebar, everything is always ever changing.
- 10:25Speaker 5: But the fundamentals of sports is something that should always
- 10:28Speaker 5: be honed on. And I think that's what we gotten
- 10:31Speaker 5: away from because obviously with Pittsburgh not winning, you know
- 10:34Speaker 5: how the fans would have liked in the past couple
- 10:37Speaker 5: of years. You know, we're so focused on who's on
- 10:39Speaker 5: the field and what product is being put on the field.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Where regardless of what products on the field and who's
- 10:45Speaker 5: on the field, make sure we're hitting those fundamentals and
- 10:47Speaker 5: making sure that anytime those games are those small margins
- 10:50Speaker 5: that we come up on top. And with the moves
- 10:52Speaker 5: that they made this offseason and looking to make I think,
- 10:55Speaker 5: if you continue to hit that and make this team better,
- 10:57Speaker 5: who knows.
- 10:58Speaker 4: What twenty twenty six could hold.
- 10:59Speaker 5: We we might be looking at the Central Division champs,
- 11:02Speaker 5: we might be looking at a wild court. Who knows
- 11:04Speaker 5: but I do know that it will be a better
- 11:06Speaker 5: product and a better team than what's been put forth.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I will say, I mean PNC Park probably more so
- 11:13Speaker 2: than a lot of other ballparks. You can steal a
- 11:15Speaker 2: few wins if you know how to play that park well,
- 11:18Speaker 2: right with the alleys, just with the way the light, yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 2: first and like the light. Yeah, there's my thumb webcam.
- 11:30Speaker 2: We don't have to cut this out. That's my new
- 11:31Speaker 2: year's resolution, is by the way, to stop this from
- 11:35Speaker 2: zooming in every time I talk with my hands. I'm
- 11:37Speaker 2: part Italian. Give me a break, no, But in all seriousness, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 2: there are certain advantages you can gain by playing every
- 11:44Speaker 2: single ballpark, right, Like you know, people who play left
- 11:48Speaker 2: field a ton know how to play left field in
- 11:51Speaker 2: Boston a little bit different. Yeah, yes, And PNC Park
- 11:55Speaker 2: is a place where, yes, if you learn how to
- 11:58Speaker 2: take advantages, get good res off of balls and alleys,
- 12:01Speaker 2: if you if you know where to be properly lined
- 12:04Speaker 2: up if something's hit shallow, right, didn't you guys grow
- 12:08Speaker 2: out the grass pretty high.
- 12:10Speaker 5: You don't know what it's like now, but the grass
- 12:12Speaker 5: was so thick we knew, Hey, we had an opportunity
- 12:14Speaker 5: to take first and thirds oh Man on second, we're
- 12:17Speaker 5: you know whoever our third base called, Joey Koorr. You
- 12:19Speaker 5: know he's ready to send us because we know as
- 12:22Speaker 5: our outfielders were playing shallow because we know the ball
- 12:24Speaker 5: doesn't get there, but other teams might not. But that's
- 12:28Speaker 5: all part of being into the game, not just physically
- 12:32Speaker 5: mental side of the game. The fundamentals of knowing where
- 12:34Speaker 5: your outfielders are, how many outs are.
- 12:36Speaker 4: There, what's the situation?
- 12:39Speaker 5: All fundamental things that we sit here and we laugh
- 12:41Speaker 5: at because it sounds trivial, but that there. Those are
- 12:46Speaker 5: things that wins games. You know, no when to be aggressive,
- 12:48Speaker 5: no win not.
- 12:49Speaker 4: To be And there's a lot of past year.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Yes, I saw a lot this past year where they
- 12:54Speaker 5: were aggressive, but now you got to hone in that aggressive.
- 12:57Speaker 4: It makings you know, you know, smart aggression and learn
- 13:01Speaker 4: from those things.
- 13:01Speaker 5: And I think fundamentals is something that can help this
- 13:04Speaker 5: team get that much better with the pieces that they've had.
- 13:06Speaker 4: It.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean baseball season is a grind, right, it's
- 13:10Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty two games. It can feel like
- 13:13Speaker 2: a lull at Sometimes there are some teams that have
- 13:16Speaker 2: the luxury of maybe getting checked out a little bit, right,
- 13:20Speaker 2: like where they're just all right, yeah, I'm not completely
- 13:23Speaker 2: in it, you know, like it's the dog days of summer.
- 13:26Speaker 2: The Pirates aren't a team that's ever going to have
- 13:28Speaker 2: that luxury, right, You're never going to be in Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 2: what's the quote from the movie Miracle. You think you're
- 13:34Speaker 2: good enough to win on talent alone, gentlemen, you do
- 13:37Speaker 2: not have enough talent to win on talent alone. And
- 13:40Speaker 2: that's just the reality of the market size that they
- 13:42Speaker 2: play in. You have to be completely checked in and
- 13:46Speaker 2: in tune to every situation from the first pitch to
- 13:49Speaker 2: the final out.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And if you find the way you win games.
- 13:53Speaker 2: The way you can steal wins is by finding a
- 13:55Speaker 2: way to occasionally tag up from first to second when
- 13:58Speaker 2: the outfielder is not paying a time on those deep
- 14:01Speaker 2: fly balls to you know, steal before the guys even
- 14:04Speaker 2: in the wind up, and maybe create a double steel situation.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Just those small little things you can do on.
- 14:10Speaker 2: The basis in the field, pickoff plays, just certain little
- 14:14Speaker 2: things that don't necessarily show up a ton on the
- 14:16Speaker 2: box score, and they might happen in the third or
- 14:19Speaker 2: fourth inning, but they can influence games. And they can
- 14:21Speaker 2: influence series, and that's how you stack up wins and
- 14:25Speaker 2: steal a couple victories and probably finish ahead of teams
- 14:29Speaker 2: that you shouldn't finish ahead of in the standings.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, before Mark says his, I mean, look
- 14:34Speaker 5: at twenty thirteen when we clinched in Wrigley.
- 14:36Speaker 4: That play at the play.
- 14:39Speaker 5: That right there is a perfect example of fundamentals, things
- 14:42Speaker 5: looking crazy, but people being where they should And.
- 14:46Speaker 4: It wasn't the cleanest baseball play.
- 14:48Speaker 5: But it was a fundamental play where guys were where
- 14:50Speaker 5: they were supposed to. And those are things that you
- 14:53Speaker 5: look around that's where they're missing. You know, if you're
- 14:55Speaker 5: already missing on the big parts, those things are going
- 14:57Speaker 5: to be even magnified even more.
- 15:00Speaker 2: All Right, Mark finished us off. What is your new
- 15:02Speaker 2: Year's resolution? You were muted, muted.
- 15:08Speaker 3: There we go, all right, we got My final resolution
- 15:11Speaker 3: for the Pirates year would be to win the close ones,
- 15:14Speaker 3: so very similar to what Josh was saying, where fundamentals
- 15:19Speaker 3: you can really win on the margins with that. But
- 15:22Speaker 3: the Pirates lost thirty five one run games last year.
- 15:26Speaker 3: That's the most the Pirates have lost since nineteen eighty six,
- 15:30Speaker 3: per Alex Stump and so that was also second or
- 15:34Speaker 3: first in the majors. The Braves were right along that
- 15:38Speaker 3: thirty range as well. But thirty five games that you
- 15:41Speaker 3: could have won by one run that you ended up
- 15:44Speaker 3: losing by one run. And for the Pirates to get
- 15:47Speaker 3: to the postseason again, they're gonna have to win those
- 15:50Speaker 3: close games. They're gonna have to play fundamental baseball. They're
- 15:53Speaker 3: gonna have to be locked in for an entire one
- 15:56Speaker 3: hundred and sixty two game season. We're gonna have to
- 15:59Speaker 3: see Don Kelly making the right bullpen moves. We're gonna
- 16:02Speaker 3: have to see some guys step up. You know, we
- 16:05Speaker 3: referenced Henry Davis earlier in this episode. Maybe we can
- 16:08Speaker 3: get him to start having an offensive breakout just a
- 16:11Speaker 3: little bit more to just a tiny bit more offense,
- 16:16Speaker 3: and this team will be right there in the thick
- 16:19Speaker 3: of the postseason race come September. So we'll see. I mean,
- 16:24Speaker 3: a lot of that season was Derek Shelton managing last year.
- 16:28Speaker 3: I think one of the big criticisms was when we
- 16:31Speaker 3: got to those close games, it didn't feel like we
- 16:33Speaker 3: could ever seal the deal. Are we going to be
- 16:37Speaker 3: more aggressive on the base pass towards the end. So yeah,
- 16:42Speaker 3: my big resolution for the Pirates would just be win
- 16:45Speaker 3: those close ones however you can, because this team, like
- 16:49Speaker 3: you said, no, it just doesn't have the talent to
- 16:52Speaker 3: ride it out and just say, if we lose some
- 16:54Speaker 3: close ones whatever, we'll still be five games ahead in
- 16:57Speaker 3: the division.
- 16:58Speaker 1: No big deal.
- 16:59Speaker 3: They're gonna be every single one of those one run games.
- 17:02Speaker 3: So locking in for those moments when the game is
- 17:06Speaker 3: that close with just it's what the Pirates need to
- 17:09Speaker 3: really take the next step.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think in any sport, the good teams
- 17:17Speaker 2: find a way to win close games, right Like it's.
- 17:20Speaker 1: In professional sports.
- 17:22Speaker 2: There are so many teams at the end of the
- 17:24Speaker 2: season where you look, they'll finish in last place, and
- 17:27Speaker 2: you look at their game notes and it says, oh,
- 17:29Speaker 2: they were in this amount of one score games in
- 17:31Speaker 2: the NFL and the NBA, maybe not as much in
- 17:33Speaker 2: the NBA, but like in Major League Baseball and the NHL,
- 17:37Speaker 2: you know, it's these are all professional athletes. The margin
- 17:41Speaker 2: of error is very slim, right, But like we've noted,
- 17:47Speaker 2: good teams consistently find a way to be on the
- 17:51Speaker 2: right end of those mistakes. They force the opposition, to
- 17:56Speaker 2: put the wrong guy in in that situation, out of
- 17:59Speaker 2: the bullpen, to the wrong throw, to the wrong spot,
- 18:02Speaker 2: uh to to you know, feel pressure and swing it
- 18:06Speaker 2: the wrong pitch. They do all of those things that
- 18:08Speaker 2: they shouldn't do because the good teams know that they're
- 18:12Speaker 2: going to come through, and that's that confidence that they've
- 18:14Speaker 2: been missing. I think I think the Pirates know that
- 18:17Speaker 2: the margin of error is so slim that they have
- 18:19Speaker 2: to play perfect baseball, and I think they've been playing
- 18:22Speaker 2: pretty tense especially you know last season at the beginning.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Of the year, there there was a level of.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Pressure on them that I don't think they were comfortable with.
- 18:32Speaker 2: This year, they're gonna have that that pressure still exists,
- 18:34Speaker 2: Like there's going to be a hostility among the ballpark
- 18:39Speaker 2: if you do.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Not start strong this year.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Embrace it and let that fuel you to be great
- 18:46Speaker 2: rather than you know, fuel you to be scared. So
- 18:50Speaker 2: that's you got to figure out a way to get
- 18:52Speaker 2: it done.
- 18:53Speaker 5: That that was beautiful And to end on that note,
- 18:55Speaker 5: Plinn Hurdle used to say it to us all the time.
- 18:57Speaker 5: We used to be like he keeps saying this in
- 19:00Speaker 5: and like not that we didn't like hearing it, but like,
- 19:02Speaker 5: all right, man, you keep saying it, but it made
- 19:03Speaker 5: so much sense even after wins and Noah, I don't
- 19:06Speaker 5: know if he said while you were there, but he
- 19:09Speaker 5: was like, all we got to do is score one
- 19:10Speaker 5: more run than the other team. And it sounds so simple,
- 19:14Speaker 5: But we go back and look at those years.
- 19:16Speaker 4: I think we had a lot of.
- 19:17Speaker 5: One run ball games that we won because he would
- 19:20Speaker 5: always say, the game does not know it's important, whether
- 19:22Speaker 5: it's the first inning or the ninth, and the game
- 19:24Speaker 5: don't know it's important.
- 19:25Speaker 4: He said, all we got to do is score one
- 19:26Speaker 4: more run than the other team to win.
- 19:28Speaker 5: And however that was, you know, that's why guys took
- 19:31Speaker 5: it upon themselves so made the play in the field
- 19:33Speaker 5: or backed up. Hey, how do we keep this this
- 19:35Speaker 5: way to where we can score one more run? And
- 19:37Speaker 5: I know it sounds so cliche, so trivial, but mark
- 19:41Speaker 5: to your extent one of the close ones one run
- 19:43Speaker 5: ball games. It's the reason they make us start about it.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Exactly awesome. Well, I have another New Year's resolution.
