- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:41Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:44Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:48that is all about inner peace. And I was working with a client
- 0:52that felt that a lot of things that would happen in their life
- 0:56would make them feel either unsafe or triggered in some way.
- 1:00And their belief was that they didn't have enough of that inner
- 1:04peace to be resilient enough to those things.
- 1:08So actually what you're going to hear in this hypnosis session
- 1:11are two different metaphors. A metaphor to represent inner
- 1:15peace, which is going from a pond to a reservoir.
- 1:19A metaphor for accessing resources, which is a well that
- 1:23kind of goes down and brings back whatever appropriate
- 1:26resource is going to be useful. There is an element of the
- 1:30natural neuroplasticity that happens when you replay
- 1:34something in your mind, But if you do it in a particular way,
- 1:37that can actually increase the feeling of optionality, but also
- 1:42a belief that you can do things differently.
- 1:46And also utilizing curiosity as a way to change previously held
- 1:53beliefs, associations, or evaluations that are just not
- 1:57productive. And I think a lot of people in
- 1:59life experience false positives. A false positive anxiety is
- 2:03worrying about this bad thing that's going to happen and then
- 2:05it never happens. In this case, the client was
- 2:10feeling affected by feeling unsafe in certain situations,
- 2:14even though nothing unsafe actually happened.
- 2:17And that tells us that the threshold is too low.
- 2:21Too many things are triggering the alarm when they don't need
- 2:24to, and therefore we need to increase the threshold.
- 2:28And all of these things are taking place in this particular
- 2:30session. In order to get the best of this
- 2:34session, I would encourage you to find a nice, comfortable
- 2:36place. But if you are interested in
- 2:38working with me directly or accessing some of the free
- 2:42resources that I have, just check out the description of the
- 2:44show notes first before listening to this session.
- 2:46And then you can do that. And when it comes to listening
- 2:49to the session, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 2:51won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:12Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:19resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 4:24And as you exhale, just make yourself comfortable and allow
- 4:28your eyelids to close. That's in.
- 4:33And as your eyes closed, notice how much easier it is to focus
- 4:39on the sound of my voice, breathing in that relaxation and
- 4:46exhaling that tension. Each breath taking you deeper
- 4:50and deeper to that place where you've been many times before.
- 4:56A place where windows open within your mind to create
- 5:00wonderful positive changes. Changes that give you more of
- 5:05what you want and less of what you don't.
- 5:11So as you find yourself in that comfortable position, take
- 5:15another slow, easy breath in and allow it to be released gently
- 5:23and noticing just with each and every breath.
- 5:27You're giving permission to your body, your mind, and your
- 5:30emotions to just let go. And perhaps your body already
- 5:37knows how to settle to that place, how to find the position
- 5:44that feels just right. And as your body settles, your
- 5:49mind can begin to follow, slowing down just like a leaf
- 5:56drifting onto Stillwater. And with every exhale, you can
- 6:02imagine a little more stillness spreading through you.
- 6:09And I want you to think of a place in nature with a huge
- 6:15lake, maybe in Austria, maybe somewhere else, maybe surrounded
- 6:21by trees or mountains or hills. And when you can think of that
- 6:27place, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 6:31And as you stare out onto the surface of the lake, I want you
- 6:36to evaluate any sensations in your body, from the crown of
- 6:43your head down to your toes. Just feel as if each breath is a
- 6:50ripple fading on a quiet pond, releasing tension with every
- 6:56outward breath. And I want you to imagine
- 7:03somewhere near that lake is indeed a shallow pond.
- 7:11And it becomes humorous because the shallow pond is so small and
- 7:16the lake is so large, the contrast almost becomes absurd
- 7:23at the difference between this small pond.
- 7:28And I want you to imagine looking at that shallow pond.
- 7:31Perhaps it's a hot day. See the water rippling in the
- 7:35wind and how small waves are stirred by the slightest
- 7:40movement. If you were to even dip a finger
- 7:45into that small, shallow pond, every part of the surface would
- 7:52be affected. And perhaps you could imagine
- 7:56that pond inside you representing times in your life
- 8:01where inner peace has felt shallow, that perhaps even small
- 8:09situations, a minor disturbance, could really affect your mood,
- 8:17your feelings, your inner peace, perhaps for an hour or even
- 8:22more. But I want you to get a sense
- 8:27that today we're creating a new thought.
- 8:33I want you to get a sense of what if that small pond is just
- 8:42a representation based on you not accessing all of the
- 8:47resources available to you. And I want you to imagine almost
- 8:54like you can teleport the pond into that lake.
- 9:00And I want you to imagine the lake has so much water.
- 9:03It also provides water to nearby cities and towns.
- 9:09It has so much that it can give to others and still never run
- 9:14dry. And I want you to imagine that
- 9:19feeling of abundance, that almost no water is turning into
- 9:28millions of gallons, and each gallon of water represents the
- 9:33inner peace within you. I want you to get a sense then
- 9:40you now have that huge lake, that reservoir of inner peace.
- 9:48I want you to get a sense that knowing you have all of that
- 9:52inner peace, isn't it the case that it would take more for you
- 9:58to feel unsettled? And that doesn't mean that a
- 10:03lake can't be disturbed. But a Pebble can't disturb the
- 10:09lake. Even a boat going across the
- 10:12surface can't disturb it. It would take a major storm to
- 10:19disrupt or unsettle that huge lake, that reservoir to nearby
- 10:24cities. And I want you to get a sense
- 10:27that that feels right. I want you to get a sense that
- 10:32small things shouldn't bother you and big things should,
- 10:38because if you are in a situation where you are
- 10:41genuinely unsafe, you would want your inner peace to be disrupted
- 10:47so that you do whatever it takes to feel safe again.
- 10:52The only thing to avoid is having those minor things affect
- 10:58and disrupt your overall inner peace.
- 11:04So I want you to feel that that shallow pond has now become a
- 11:09vast deep reservoir of peace. And the deeper it becomes, just
- 11:16by the laws of physics and nature, the harder it is for any
- 11:21surface ripples to disturb it. On the surface a breeze might
- 11:27pass, but deep below it remains calm, still and unwavering.
- 11:38And then just imagine an old fashioned well next to that
- 11:44lake. It might be that hundreds of
- 11:48years ago there were no pipes to take water from the lake to the
- 11:52cities, and perhaps local villagers would walk to the well
- 12:01and have the bucket go down on a rope, pick up the water and take
- 12:06it back. I want you to get a sense that
- 12:11in the past your well was dry, or at least very shallow, but I
- 12:17want you to feel that that well now is abundantly full.
- 12:24But this well doesn't just represent inner peace, it
- 12:28represents any resources that you may need.
- 12:35And you are free to dip into that well whenever you choose.
- 12:40If something feels like it's changed, you might dip into that
- 12:45well and bring back adaptability.
- 12:50Or you might dip into the well and bring creativity to help
- 12:55solve a problem, or resilience, or fortitude, or confidence, or
- 13:04a sense of calm. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:07this well is a well that has access to every resource that
- 13:13you've ever experienced, if you've experienced it even once.
- 13:19Let's say courage. You could bring back courage
- 13:26from your past into your present and deploy it whenever it is
- 13:31useful. And I want you to feel the
- 13:36combination of this large lake and this well of
- 13:41resourcefulness. Something else begins to shift,
- 13:47and perhaps that's the way your mind decides what feels unsafe.
- 13:54In the past, there may have been moments where something small,
- 14:00something insignificant triggered that alarm inside you.
- 14:05An alert that said you're not safe, even though later you
- 14:12realise that nothing dangerous and no risks were ever really
- 14:17there. But from this point forward,
- 14:22your inner mind begins to raise that threshold, like adjusting A
- 14:27finely tuned instrument. So now it only plays its warning
- 14:33note when there is real danger, the equivalent of a storm above
- 14:40the lake. Every other time it simply
- 14:44remains calm, watchful, and at peace.
- 14:50And notice where in your body that peace feels like it exists.
- 14:54If you were to have that reservoir, that lake within you,
- 15:00maybe your chest, your guard, or somewhere else, just get a
- 15:03feeling of where it exists and feel it's so much larger and
- 15:09deeper and more abundant than it ever was before.
- 15:14And if there ever is a moment where you do feel that flicker
- 15:20of unsafety, you can pause and imagine something powerful.
- 15:27You can use the power of your mind to rewind it and imagine
- 15:33how you would handle this same situation with all of the
- 15:37resources that you would need from the well and all of the
- 15:41inner peace from that lake. And you can picture that version
- 15:46of you, calm, grounded, prepared, acting with
- 15:51confidence, thinking clearly and responding wisely.
- 15:57Because that's why we replay things in our mind anyway.
- 16:02It isn't to change the past, it's to influence how we feel in
- 16:06a similar situation in the future.
- 16:11And the more you do it, the more it will naturally happen all by
- 16:14itself. And each time you do this,
- 16:17consciously or unconsciously, your brain rewires, making it
- 16:23easier to feel the same resourcefulness automatically
- 16:29the very next time something similar happens.
- 16:34And I want you to think of the tone of voice that in a dialogue
- 16:38would have if it was really curious.
- 16:45I want you to get a feeling that what if that moment when that
- 16:51feeling of unsafety appears, instead of tension, you feel
- 16:59curious. Imagine bringing up curiosity
- 17:04from your well now, and that curiosity might ask, what am I
- 17:11assuming here? What must I believe in order to
- 17:16feel this way? What else could this mean?
- 17:23And if something isn't useful, maybe that same curiosity says
- 17:30what would be a more useful belief, evaluation, or
- 17:35association in this moment, and allow that curiosity also to
- 17:41rewire. And as you question, you begin
- 17:46to replace the old pattern with something far more helpful, more
- 17:52empowering, more in line with the calm, deep lake of peace
- 17:58within you. So let's try this out, just
- 18:02within your imagination. Think of something recently that
- 18:07made you feel unsafe, but imagine it happening 3 or 4
- 18:11weeks in the future. Imagine that version of you in
- 18:16that same situation that once would have triggered that
- 18:18unease. Now watch as you see that
- 18:22version of you handling it differently, with more
- 18:26composure, more calmness, more confidence, perhaps even a
- 18:31fearless look in your eye. And that higher threshold
- 18:36filtering only what matters. Because you don't feel safe.
- 18:42Only when the threshold has been surpassed.
- 18:46You now do feel safe whenever the threshold is not met and
- 18:52most things won't meet your threshold.
- 18:55So see that version of you feeling confident and calm,
- 18:59completely at ease, and allow that curiosity to guide your
- 19:04thoughts because there might be even more room for improvement.
- 19:10See yourself looking resourceful and handling whatever the
- 19:14situation is in a confident way without the need of conflict and
- 19:21seeing that version of you immune from whatever the
- 19:25response is of someone else. Whether they agree or don't
- 19:30agree with your words is immaterial.
- 19:33You did what you needed to do to help move a situation forward.
- 19:39And then step into that future version of you, feeling
- 19:42empowered, resourceful, with that deep reservoir of inner
- 19:47peace. And notice the difference in how
- 19:50you feel and get a sense that this feels like it will become
- 19:55your default pattern. That rather than things making
- 19:59you feel unsafe, you will assume safety unless there is
- 20:04irrefutable evidence that you are unsafe, and only then you
- 20:09will handle it differently. I want you to connect with this
- 20:14new way of being. You just get a sense that
- 20:20certain things are now working with you.
- 20:24I want you to get a sense that that shallow pond of inner peace
- 20:28is now a deep lake. You have access to a well that
- 20:32you can recall any resource whenever you need it.
- 20:36You have the ability to replay things that do make you feel
- 20:40unsafe until they no longer do that anymore.
- 20:45And you have the ability of using curiosity to challenge any
- 20:49underlying belief systems, associations, or evaluations to
- 20:54now give you the ability to think things differently as you
- 21:01connect. With all of these changes, it's
- 21:04time to leave that lake and return to the presence.
- 21:06To take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 21:10nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 21:13wiggle your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 21:15here and the now. That's it.
- 21:18As I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you, it's
- 21:23starting to count. 123 waking up. 456 more alert. 7-8 open
- 21:30your eyes. Open your eyes. 910.
- 21:33Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
- 23:08Yeah. The.
- 25:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:00The. None.
- 30:00None. None.
- 31:30Yeah. Yeah.
