- 0:00Speaker 1: With Stu Gotts and Hawkman.
- 0:02Speaker 2: So the last episode of with Stu Gotts and Hawkman
- 0:06Speaker 2: I thought was our worst episode ever. I just thought
- 0:09Speaker 2: it was boring because we didn't laugh a lot. But
- 0:12Speaker 2: it was all about the Radio Wars, and what I
- 0:14Speaker 2: found out Stu Gotts was that people love that, and
- 0:17Speaker 2: I guess I had kind of misjudged that. But people
- 0:20Speaker 2: people do love like the Radio Wars and they wanted
- 0:24Speaker 2: to hear more to be quiet.
- 0:26Speaker 1: People love Radio Wars. They do. It's a weird thing.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm not certain why they love them so much, but
- 0:31Speaker 1: they do love them.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I am with you. I didn't think last week's episode
- 0:34Speaker 3: was was particularly great. I don't you know, we didn't
- 0:37Speaker 3: laugh enough. But I think any sort of of you know,
- 0:41Speaker 3: kind of stroll down memory lane with our show, people
- 0:44Speaker 3: are just gonna love.
- 0:45Speaker 1: They're gonna consume it. They like it.
- 0:46Speaker 2: By the way, I think it was this week. I
- 0:47Speaker 2: don't think it was last week. I think it was
- 0:49Speaker 2: this week. Here's a here's a couple of d ms
- 0:53Speaker 2: that I've gotten, you.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Know what I'm getting old, You're right. I think it
- 0:55Speaker 3: was like two days ago.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yes, sorry, my phone won't stop fucking buzz that's the problem.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I hate this thing. I want to throw it in
- 1:02Speaker 1: the fucking ocean.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I do you can DM me, and I try to
- 1:05Speaker 2: respond to everybody who listens to this podcast. It's radio
- 1:08Speaker 2: Mark Hawkman on Instagram. Here's a DM love the Radio
- 1:11Speaker 2: Wars episode. I always wondered if a lot of people
- 1:14Speaker 2: from the radio industry were fans of the show like me.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I was doing morning radio from two thousand and seven
- 1:20Speaker 2: to twenty fifteen. I would listen to The LeBatard Show
- 1:23Speaker 2: every afternoon. Frankly, I stole a lot of content and
- 1:27Speaker 2: imaging ideas from you guys. So anytime there's a Radio
- 1:30Speaker 2: Wars story, I'm all in, Yeah, I stole you guys.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I don't think I know Dan didn't listen to Howard Stern,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but a lot of the stuff that I did on
- 1:41Speaker 2: the show I stole from Howard Stern because I would
- 1:43Speaker 2: listen to Stern. I had that old timey guy I
- 1:45Speaker 2: would do sometimes, Hey stop man, that was a complete
- 1:50Speaker 2: ripoff from Stern.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But Hawk here's what's interesting, because I think people so,
- 1:55Speaker 3: I'm proud of you for stealing stuff from Stern. And
- 1:58Speaker 3: I always looked at it as a form of flattery.
- 2:01Speaker 3: If you're going to listen to our show and take
- 2:03Speaker 3: pieces of our show and install them into your show.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I was okay with that. Radio is hard. It's hard
- 2:10Speaker 1: to come up with good ideas.
- 2:11Speaker 3: If you want to take one of our ideas, like
- 2:13Speaker 3: we should be sharing this stuff, who care.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You using it as a jump off point? You make
- 2:17Speaker 2: it your own, Like you don't do it word for word,
- 2:19Speaker 2: but you make it your own.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I say this getting mad at Todd Fritz, one of
- 2:23Speaker 3: the producers on Dan Patrick's.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Show, for doing athletes that can have Valentine's Day.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I mean that's a little bit too much of a
- 2:29Speaker 2: rip off. Another DM have loved your work since I
- 2:33Speaker 2: moved down to South Florida in twenty ten. I missed
- 2:36Speaker 2: you after you left the Levatard Show. You created the
- 2:38Speaker 2: best laughs and entertainment on that show. I have no
- 2:40Speaker 2: requests for the pod with you and Stugotts, but just
- 2:43Speaker 2: love the nostalgia. Keep it going. It's a great listen.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We plan to we have as much fun doing this
- 2:51Speaker 2: as many people are listening to it. Someone else DM
- 2:54Speaker 2: heard the pod today. I missed you on the show,
- 2:56Speaker 2: but the releases with you and Stugotts are must listening stuff,
- 3:01Speaker 2: your funniest shit. Thank you.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Are you gonna read all compliments of yourself?
- 3:07Speaker 2: But I'm only reading compliment good with Stu Gotts and
- 3:11Speaker 2: Hawkman has been better and better every week. I could
- 3:14Speaker 2: listen to you guys talk for hours, which is what
- 3:16Speaker 2: I used to love about the show. Great to get
- 3:19Speaker 2: a piece of that back. You and Stu Gotts definitely
- 3:21Speaker 2: still have that magic touch. Hope we get a lot
- 3:24Speaker 2: more of you two together. Yeah, we talked about it
- 3:27Speaker 2: because we hadn't done a show together until I did
- 3:29Speaker 2: your pod. We hadn't done a show together in ten years,
- 3:32Speaker 2: and it was just like riding a bike.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's easy, It's easy.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Hawk Have you noticed this though, and I'm certain you have.
- 3:38Speaker 3: People just love going back to a simpler time, to
- 3:41Speaker 3: a better time. It's like now Vinyl is making a return.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Eight tracks are making a return. VHS this is making
- 3:48Speaker 3: a return, blockbuster.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Like people just want to go back to a similar time.
- 3:53Speaker 2: HS is making a return.
- 3:54Speaker 1: No, it is.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I just saw a whole thing about it on Today
- 3:57Speaker 3: and so if it's on Yeah, if it's on the
- 3:59Speaker 3: Today Show, then you know that's real.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I mean, I'm fair. I'd like to also mention, because
- 4:04Speaker 2: I mentioned in the last pod that we had a
- 4:05Speaker 2: four point nine rating on Apple Podcasts, it is up
- 4:10Speaker 2: to five now that I have been begging for good
- 4:14Speaker 2: reviews and five star reviews, your one negative review has
- 4:17Speaker 2: been outweighed by many more positive reviews, and so now
- 4:23Speaker 2: we're at a five on Apple podcasts.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Who sent the negative review?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Dan, It's possible it did, lamp based you man, It
- 4:32Speaker 2: is very possible. My favorite newest review that I've seen
- 4:37Speaker 2: on Apple Podcasts five stars. It says this show saved
- 4:42Speaker 2: my marriage. That's the headline, and then underneath it it
- 4:46Speaker 2: says I'm not actually married, but I feel like this
- 4:49Speaker 2: has to have happened. Gets the show AnyWho. So Radio
- 4:57Speaker 2: Wars was a popular Repp episode, and so I pulled
- 5:01Speaker 2: up some stuff. We went after Jim Manditch, who was
- 5:05Speaker 2: a Miami Dolphins legend and a radio legend, and he's
- 5:09Speaker 2: missed to this day. I mean really it was. There
- 5:11Speaker 2: was something talk about an easier time, There was something
- 5:14Speaker 2: comforting about having his voice on the radio. He passed
- 5:18Speaker 2: away way too young from cancer, but he was on
- 5:21Speaker 2: directly against us, and because we were the upstart radio
- 5:24Speaker 2: station and we had made a conscious effort. Hey, we're
- 5:28Speaker 2: going to attack QAM. We're going to attack their personalities,
- 5:32Speaker 2: We're going to attack the way that they deliver sports talk.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We would attack Manditch and that show in the style
- 5:40Speaker 2: of show. And we had a caller named fake Jim
- 5:44Speaker 2: Manditch that did Mandage perfectly. Listen. I had mentioned earlier
- 5:48Speaker 2: in this or I'd mentioned on Stu Goatson Company today
- 5:52Speaker 2: the bump, the lebron bump of Eric Spolstra. Here's fake
- 5:55Speaker 2: Jim Manditch calling the show after that bump, Fake.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Jim Man that you're on seven ninety all.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Right, sports fans sake, Jim Mandager. Your Sports Talk to
- 6:05Speaker 5: ninety time is whatever the dashboards says. And hey, lebam,
- 6:09Speaker 5: mister Johnny King lately, don't go bump on our coach
- 6:13Speaker 5: I because you ain't prove squat Diddley poo to me,
- 6:16Speaker 5: buddy you Oh yeah, I talked to Delonte. I talked
- 6:19Speaker 5: to Delante and he said he wanted to do Xbox
- 6:21Speaker 5: for Christmas, but you, uh, won't you tell mommy to
- 6:24Speaker 5: break him off something nice. He's been a good boy.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Fin'd sports fans. That's all there is. There is no
- 6:29Speaker 5: more If you called into the show, thank you if
- 6:30Speaker 5: you just listen, thank you again, and then to God's
- 6:33Speaker 5: don't forget I'm out Deuce.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I mean a couple of things. It's a flawless mandage, perfect,
- 6:41Speaker 2: the deadly Pooh, the supports time, like, I mean, just
- 6:45Speaker 2: everything that I miss about hearing that man's voice on
- 6:48Speaker 2: the radio. But also it was so I mean, this
- 6:52Speaker 2: is why people love radio wars. That's our direct competitor.
- 6:56Speaker 2: He's on the air while we're doing that, and we're
- 7:00Speaker 2: taking calls lampooning him.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I gotta tell you, I have regrets about doing that
- 7:06Speaker 3: to Jim Manditch. I didn't mind doing it to Hank.
- 7:09Speaker 3: I didn't mind doing it to others, but Jim Mandich
- 7:11Speaker 3: was such a nice man.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Quality dude, quality dude. But I think I think with
- 7:15Speaker 2: Hank there was some actual anger involved in it. I
- 7:18Speaker 2: think our lampooning of Manditch was done. I'd like to
- 7:22Speaker 2: think it was done with love. But also, you know
- 7:24Speaker 2: what sobering is. We were in our thirties. Yes, he
- 7:28Speaker 2: was probably my age. Yeah, like I'm fifty six right now.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Like that, we were lampooning the old guy and that's
- 7:37Speaker 2: me right now on the radio on his station QAM
- 7:40Speaker 2: in his drive part like it is the day part.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Like, yes, that's kind of sobering, Sceleario. I was gonna
- 7:46Speaker 3: start making fun of you, I mean for being old.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Oh trust me, they already do. Here's another call from
- 7:51Speaker 3: fake Jim Manditch.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Fake Jim Manditch.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You're on seven ninety man.
- 7:56Speaker 5: Sports fans, Fake Jim Mandit your your sports talk seven nine.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Time is time to get a new coach. I'm not
- 8:03Speaker 5: Dolphin fans out there. I for you like drinking a
- 8:05Speaker 5: bunch of green lizards, pucking the car in the garage
- 8:08Speaker 5: and leaving that something Brommy behold on Dolphins is always
- 8:11Speaker 5: next year. And speaking of next year, boy, I'll talk
- 8:14Speaker 5: to you next year. Sometime in between I need a break.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Maybe I'll come up with a new fake or something.
- 8:19Speaker 5: I'm such fans, if he's listening, if you call, thanks again,
- 8:23Speaker 5: come out.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Really good sports fans.
- 8:28Speaker 3: It's such a key to the impersonation, right, yes, yes,
- 8:32Speaker 3: but hawk again. I want to reiterate because this is
- 8:34Speaker 3: a man who was on the undefeated seventy two Dolphins team.
- 8:38Speaker 3: He was beloved down here. He was the Dolphins color analyst.
- 8:43Speaker 3: He had signature calls that were played across the country
- 8:46Speaker 3: on Sports Center, and he was a Midwestern guy with
- 8:49Speaker 3: good values. He would say, right around with your windows down,
- 8:53Speaker 3: it was an easier time. He didn't give much of,
- 8:55Speaker 3: you know, anything in the way of opinions, but man,
- 8:58Speaker 3: that guy just made me relax my drive home.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Use there was something just hearing the fake is like, Wow,
- 9:05Speaker 2: that's like talk about an easier time, like it was
- 9:08Speaker 2: just it was just a different time. Here's another call
- 9:12Speaker 2: from fake Jim Mandage.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Fake Jim Manditch on Randy Moss. You're on seven nineties i'd.
- 9:18Speaker 5: Sports fans, Jim Mandae, here were seven ninety times five
- 9:22Speaker 5: thirty nine. Let's talk about Randy Moss. I'm looking down
- 9:26Speaker 5: on the.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Field and I'm looking at rowing heartline and I'm thinking
- 9:29Speaker 6: to myself, why, who and where I'm going to be
- 9:35Speaker 6: a douche and say I'm out.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'm guessing that's fake Jim Mandage after just having called
- 9:42Speaker 2: the game probably against New England, where Randy Moss is
- 9:45Speaker 2: playing and we're stuck with Brian Hartline, and he's just like,
- 9:49Speaker 2: what am I doing? This is this is a good one.
- 9:52Speaker 2: This is fake Jim Mandage calling in about the Dolphins
- 9:54Speaker 2: and Chad Henny.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Fake Jim Manditch, you're on seven ninety the ticket nice
- 10:00Speaker 4: sports fans.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Vig Jim manage here he sports talk seven ninety times
- 10:04Speaker 5: is three fifty five. And if I can start off
- 10:06Speaker 5: on a serious note voyage, I know he doesn't want to,
- 10:09Speaker 5: he doesn't want us praying for him, but Uncle Neil,
- 10:12Speaker 5: We're praying for you, buddy Dan and still gotts. I'm
- 10:14Speaker 5: looking at a Dolphin team and I'm thinking where is
- 10:17Speaker 5: Chad Henny going to be next year? And I'm wondering
- 10:20Speaker 5: why his coach Sperano is so excited about a field goal.
- 10:25Speaker 5: And the worst part is I gotta do the game
- 10:27Speaker 5: next to Cephalo and he likes to wear that ex
- 10:30Speaker 5: body spray for men the tropical flavor, My guy. He
- 10:34Speaker 5: sticks up the entire booth between that and it's Tommy
- 10:37Speaker 5: Bahama shirtz. I feel like I'm doing the game with
- 10:39Speaker 5: Eric Strata Fine sports rannot so there is there is
- 10:42Speaker 5: no more. If he called in, thank you, and if
- 10:44Speaker 5: you just listen, thank you. Also, I'm out loose.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I mean that guy was textbook guy who got the
- 10:52Speaker 2: show and the moment the call screener would say fake
- 10:55Speaker 2: Jim Mandage is on the line, and I would say,
- 10:57Speaker 2: double check, make sure it's the real fake Jim Manda becausetors. Yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and the moment he would go up on the call screen,
- 11:05Speaker 2: I don't care what Dan was doing if he saw
- 11:07Speaker 2: fake Jim Manditch up there and it was a vetted,
- 11:10Speaker 2: actual fake Jim Mandage, he was going to that call.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Because that guy delivered every time he had the twang down.
- 11:15Speaker 3: He also knew exactly what words to choose, like what
- 11:17Speaker 3: to go for. Strata is a perfect word, amazing.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Did you guys ever meet fake Jim Mandic.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't I gotta be honest with you.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I know that I've.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Met fake Himalaya.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Operator introduced himself to us. What's that an event? And
- 11:38Speaker 3: I got mad at him. I said, I never wanted
- 11:40Speaker 3: to see your face. What are you doing?
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't know if we ever met, I don't believe.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And then Dan, I always found this interesting. Again, the
- 11:48Speaker 2: guys on down the dial the same time we are,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and Dan would lampoon him as well. This is Dan
- 11:55Speaker 2: breaking into his impersonation of Jim Mandich.
- 11:58Speaker 4: We get this tes so often and it makes me
- 12:01Speaker 4: laugh every time we get it. You're still whining about
- 12:05Speaker 4: this crap snore. Let's see what Manditch is up to.
- 12:11Speaker 7: No, please text her No once you discover him, what
- 12:17Speaker 7: will we do?
- 12:20Speaker 1: But we get it all the time.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Like threats STU gotts yes true or untrue?
- 12:27Speaker 1: That text bothers you untrue? What did we learn this week?
- 12:32Speaker 4: Eight eight, eight, seven nine oh three seven seven six,
- 12:34Speaker 4: Captain Hawk?
- 12:37Speaker 2: What did we learn? Captain Hawk? Is a great call there.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Captain Curtis was his longtime producer in side.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I love that segment by the way we learn, you.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Know what's funny? So that happened to me this week.
- 12:55Speaker 2: You know, I do the radio show on one four
- 12:58Speaker 2: three FM UQAM. I'm on two till six with Crowder
- 13:02Speaker 2: and Selero and we're playing we were replaying a segment.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It was National Pancake Day and we have a segment
- 13:10Speaker 2: that I find to be very funny, like laugh out
- 13:12Speaker 2: loud funny. And it was Solana not understanding why McDonald's
- 13:16Speaker 2: calls pancakes hotcakes and he has a weird suggestion as
- 13:19Speaker 2: to why, and so on National Pancake Day, I always
- 13:22Speaker 2: play it. And someone texted in Hey, a Buelow, why
- 13:26Speaker 2: don't you just retire already? You're playing Best of and
- 13:30Speaker 2: it's not even summer. The Heat and the Panthers play tonight,
- 13:33Speaker 2: and I like it touched a nerve with me because
- 13:35Speaker 2: I was like, and so I wanted to curse, but
- 13:38Speaker 2: I did say this on the air. I go, not motherfucker,
- 13:41Speaker 2: but I want to say motherfucker. The bit is seven minutes.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I do a four hour show. It's seven minutes. I'm
- 13:48Speaker 2: not doing it to be lazy. It's funny. There's nothing
- 13:51Speaker 2: I can do in this seven minutes that's gonna top that.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So then I go, hey, and he goes, you take
- 13:57Speaker 2: us for granted. I go, yes, I take you for granted.
- 14:01Speaker 2: In fact, why don't you go listen to nine forty am.
- 14:04Speaker 2: They're on the air. And then I realized it was
- 14:06Speaker 2: actually your show that was on nine forty am as
- 14:09Speaker 2: I was doing it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But I go, keep sitting a mile away. I mean,
- 14:12Speaker 1: it's funny.
- 14:12Speaker 2: So I'm like, why don't you go listen to nine
- 14:14Speaker 2: forty I'm sure they're doing something that you'll appreciate or whatever.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And then I got a direct message from Will Altoff
- 14:21Speaker 2: at nine forty who said, hey, could you mention my
- 14:24Speaker 2: show with Luis Diaz next time that you're telling everybody
- 14:27Speaker 2: to come listen to nine forty. But yeah, it's funny
- 14:31Speaker 2: the way that you guys reacted to that texture. You know, snore,
- 14:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna go listen to man I do the same thing.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It's still it irks me. I'm like, go fucking listen.
- 14:39Speaker 2: What do I care?
- 14:40Speaker 1: Hauck.
- 14:40Speaker 7: There was a chance that when you directed that listener
- 14:42Speaker 7: to our show, Stu Gotts was replaying his Rick Barry fight.
- 14:47Speaker 1: No I did. Yes, yes, there's a very good chance. Yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 1: it was sixteen minutes long.
- 14:53Speaker 2: That guys had exploded if you heard another replay. But this,
- 14:56Speaker 2: so this is super funny. So we lampooned Jim Manditch
- 15:01Speaker 2: enough that Damn decided he'll start doing live spots to
- 15:06Speaker 2: get people to listen to Mandag's show because he doesn't
- 15:09Speaker 2: want to do live spots. But you know what, he'll
- 15:11Speaker 2: break the uh, He'll break the boycott, He'll break the
- 15:14Speaker 2: embargo to get people to listen to Mandag's show. This
- 15:17Speaker 2: is Dan's first ever live spot.
- 15:24Speaker 7: All right, hey guys, I'm Dan Levatar with my first
- 15:27Speaker 7: ever live spot for seven ninety the ticket. I've broken
- 15:31Speaker 7: down in this bad economy and I'm finally selling my
- 15:34Speaker 7: journalistic soul for the beloved dollar. So let me tell
- 15:38Speaker 7: you about my good friends at the Jim Mandag Show.
- 15:42Speaker 7: Captain Curtis Jim Mandage.
- 15:46Speaker 2: All right, Mandage, don't.
- 15:49Speaker 7: Listen to that sissy boy radio across the street. Listen
- 15:53Speaker 7: to the show where we can change attire. And I'm
- 15:55Speaker 7: afraid of frogs and iguana isn't drink lizards Jim man
- 16:00Speaker 7: Ditch every day four to seven for football always matters,
- 16:04Speaker 7: and toes are always tingling, and lizards are always green.
- 16:08Speaker 7: Jim Manditch every day, real sports, real man, a.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Great live spots are those are always dingling? He's like
- 16:20Speaker 2: and they could that was like one of their things.
- 16:21Speaker 2: They were men. They could change a tire. There was
- 16:23Speaker 2: no one on our show who could change a tire. Right,
- 16:25Speaker 2: you can play football. Probably a better example of why
- 16:33Speaker 2: they were more manly than us, not that they could
- 16:35Speaker 2: change a tire. They were NFL players.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Joe Rose Confurtos first touchdown past.
- 16:48Speaker 2: And then finally uh one more clip. I got into
- 16:51Speaker 2: the I started I remember doing this where I would
- 16:55Speaker 2: come on sometimes as Mandage. I listened to some other audio.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I'm not gonna play it, but like Dan would say,
- 17:00Speaker 2: what is the meaning of the whole nine yards? Can
