Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Hurdler's Emily Abadi here. I am so excited to
- 0:06Speaker 1: bring you the first ever episode of Hurdle Live. A
- 0:11Speaker 1: few disclaimers. First disclaimer, this is actually the second ever
- 0:15Speaker 1: Hurdle Live. The first one was a panel discussion with
- 0:18Speaker 1: past guests of the podcast. I hosted it in May
- 0:21Speaker 1: at the Arlow Hotel, and that time around, although it
- 0:24Speaker 1: was so much fun, we didn't record the audio. So
- 0:28Speaker 1: this time with my dear friends and past hurdlers Michael
- 0:31Speaker 1: chernow doctor Jason Worsland and Dan Churchill, we got together
- 0:36Speaker 1: this week at Hub seventeen down in Flat Iron here
- 0:39Speaker 1: in New York City and had a nice little discussion.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And part of that was kind of on a whim
- 0:45Speaker 1: recording it and hoping that the audio was good enough
- 0:48Speaker 1: to put here on the speed. So it's not perfect,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but trial and error, and I still think it's worth listening.
- 0:54Speaker 1: They've got the best advice for everything from how to
- 0:57Speaker 1: keep some sort of healthy routine while traveling, how you
- 1:00Speaker 1: should be recovering after your workout, including what foods to eat,
- 1:04Speaker 1: what tools to use, all that good stuff. It was
- 1:08Speaker 1: such a wonderful time just having the opportunity to not
- 1:10Speaker 1: only sit down with these guys again, but also interact
- 1:13Speaker 1: with a bunch of awesome people who listen to Hurdle
- 1:16Speaker 1: in the City. I'm so happy to report that through
- 1:18Speaker 1: the ticket sales for Hurdlelive, we raise more than twelve
- 1:21Speaker 1: one hundred dollars for City Harvest. Chure Now is actually
- 1:24Speaker 1: their team captain for this year's New York City Marathon,
- 1:27Speaker 1: so that just feels super special and thank you all
- 1:30Speaker 1: so so much for your support. I do need to
- 1:33Speaker 1: say a few more thank yous as well to the
- 1:35Speaker 1: people and brands that helped make this happen. To the
- 1:38Speaker 1: wonderful Lululemon New York team for the Hub seventeen space,
- 1:42Speaker 1: to all of the studios and brands that donated door prizes.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'll list those off Athletic Greens, Revere Lions and Power Yoga,
- 1:49Speaker 1: y seven Studio, Tone House, Mile High Round Club, recover

- 2:23Speaker 1: Let's get to Hurdle Live.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Thanks for coming. Like I said, my name is Emily.
- 2:39Speaker 4: I am the creator of this podcast, but hopefully you
- 2:42Speaker 4: guys listen to because you're here. I'm also a writer
- 2:46Speaker 4: and editor living here in New York City on the
- 2:50Speaker 4: Upper East Side. I am joined by three very dowper
- 2:55Speaker 4: men to my left, all which have been on Hurdle before.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So oh man, there's gonna be so much social media
- 3:02Speaker 2: happening this entire time.
- 3:05Speaker 5: I am going to introduce them, starting with the man
- 3:07Speaker 5: directly to my left, doctor Jason Worselin.
- 3:10Speaker 4: He is the creator and the founder of the Farragun
- 3:14Speaker 4: Nice to have you here.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Fun facts about doctor j He got off a plane
- 3:19Speaker 3: last night from London to New York City.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Oh you know, you travel a lot. It's cool. We'll
- 3:28Speaker 2: talk a little bit about that.
- 3:29Speaker 3: To me to his left, Dan Churchill.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Dan is the chef for under Armor as well as
- 3:37Speaker 5: the brains the mind behind a new establishment downtown of
- 3:41Speaker 5: cafe called Charlie Street.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Dan, if I was gonna go to Charlie Street and
- 3:46Speaker 4: I was gonna order one thing off the menu. What
- 3:51Speaker 4: is the one thing you can pair up? What's like
- 3:53Speaker 4: an item from the cafe, like a coffee item maybe,
- 3:56Speaker 4: But what's the one thing that I and going to
- 4:01Speaker 4: order here.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I'm going to pass you. I'm going to pass this here. Okay.
- 4:04Speaker 2: So at the moment, it's kind of go between two
- 4:06Speaker 2: different goles.
- 4:07Speaker 6: We've got this at any time, which is like a
- 4:09Speaker 6: coconut but up squash like super fringe did spread in
- 4:13Speaker 6: the base. But you have kimo, you got qulifower ice ruglar,
- 4:17Speaker 6: and you'll get three topics of suit taber hash, which.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Is a rosa supertato. These process sprouts at a pretty next.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Level along to puliflower and then the chickens like this
- 4:26Speaker 6: chicken breast has just been you know, juicefied its own juices.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It's pretty ball.
- 4:31Speaker 6: So there's actually want I looked at me churn out
- 4:35Speaker 6: so and added with a nice Australian coffee or a
- 4:40Speaker 6: daily juice.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You can't get wrong.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Last, but certainly not least, mister Michaelture Now Restaurants are extraordinary.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Co founder of the meat Ball Shop, a new York
- 4:53Speaker 4: City establishment and founder creator brands behind Seymour's, a sustainable
- 5:00Speaker 4: seafood concept, which now has nine ten seven, A lot
- 5:08Speaker 4: of locations in Manhattan.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Till that mess it up right off of that.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Most recently just opened a location in the Financial District.
- 5:26Speaker 4: It's amazing. If I remember when Churnall and I sat
- 5:28Speaker 4: down for hurdle, he told me that one of his
- 5:31Speaker 4: favorite dishes on the menu is the Kalen apple salad.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And I don't know, I mean, you just spoke about
- 5:36Speaker 4: that that dish very eloquently, But the way that turn
- 5:40Speaker 4: out described the kalan apple salad, it was like he
- 5:43Speaker 4: was like so in love with every single ingredient because
- 5:48Speaker 4: his wife was the original creator of the kalin apples.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Side, the kind of salad is uh.
- 5:56Speaker 7: The number one one of the number one if you
- 6:00Speaker 7: have ever been to Seymours, It's super simple, kale, avocado,
- 6:04Speaker 7: sweet potato, cune while while not shaved apples, one apple vinigrette.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Very simple, fucking delicious.
- 6:11Speaker 8: And I need it six days a week and I've
- 6:15Speaker 8: been eating it for a really long time, way before
- 6:17Speaker 8: I opened up Seymours, because likely said, my wife has
- 6:21Speaker 8: been cooking that dish for very very long time.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So if you haven't been to Seaymours.
- 6:26Speaker 8: And you want to make sure they can have something
- 6:29Speaker 8: awesome when you go there. You can get anything on
- 6:31Speaker 8: the menu specifically as you saw some like lobster mac
- 6:37Speaker 8: or something happening.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Lobster mac new for the fall weather, got some lobster ma.
- 6:42Speaker 6: The brand the new fall menu had Seymour's launched on
- 6:46Speaker 6: October fourth, So we've got some new pasta's, new salads,
- 6:50Speaker 6: all new sides on the real deal. We had a
- 6:54Speaker 6: lobster out, we had a lobster BOLOONEI it's a lobster mag.
- 6:58Speaker 6: Lots of lobster for the fall come in.
- 7:03Speaker 4: So we mentioned that doctor Jay got in from London
- 7:06Speaker 4: last night. Dan like fluid from Australia yesterday. I can't
- 7:10Speaker 4: I tell you how nervous I was putting this together.
- 7:12Speaker 4: I was like waiting any second that someone was gonna
- 7:14Speaker 4: get in a layover, stranded on an airport. This all like,
- 7:18Speaker 4: I feel very blessed that we were will make this happen.
- 7:21Speaker 4: So on the note of travel, what I would love
- 7:24Speaker 4: to start with you guys for work, obviously you're.
- 7:28Speaker 9: Often traveling, you're often meeting torn now last month, Thank
- 7:32Speaker 9: you it was you were in La recording with.
- 7:34Speaker 4: A favorite podcaster of mine for Short Story Long and Drama.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Amazing episode if you listen to Short Story Long, Channow's
- 7:41Speaker 4: episode is top notch. You're traveling all the time, so
- 7:46Speaker 4: what are some things that you do to like stay
- 7:50Speaker 4: kind of like healthy with it? Obviously hurdle for those
- 7:54Speaker 4: of you that made new to the podcast a little
- 7:56Speaker 4: bit is talking to top CEO and entrepreneurs like these
- 8:01Speaker 4: guys right here who have gotten through maybe some difficult
- 8:04Speaker 4: times in your life by leaning into wellness whoever that
- 8:07Speaker 4: might look for them. So, you guys are active, you're fit,
- 8:10Speaker 4: you're you're all about the wellness, So talk to me
- 8:13Speaker 4: about how you get after it when you're going around
- 8:16Speaker 4: all the time.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Sure, I'm just thinking of all the different things you
- 8:23Speaker 7: have to do. Like literally, I have to make sure
- 8:26Speaker 7: that the hotel I'm staying at has a facility that
- 8:30Speaker 7: I could get to at any time because the time differences.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That always ends up kind of being a little bit
- 8:36Speaker 2: of a thing I have to deal with. Anyone that
- 8:41Speaker 2: knows me.
- 8:42Speaker 7: I'm an like I'm a sweet tooth, really bad, but
- 8:45Speaker 7: I try to eat as much healthy as I can
- 8:48Speaker 7: throughout my trips. It's tough when you're on an airplane
- 8:50Speaker 7: they have garbage or garbage. I love the garbage, yeah right,
- 8:57Speaker 7: But I tried as much as as much as I can.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 9:02Speaker 7: I feel like exercising has trained my body's resistance to resistance,
- 9:11Speaker 7: and if I if I kind of start slapping off,
- 9:14Speaker 7: it's not so much necessarily how I look. It's for
- 9:18Speaker 7: me is how I feel, and the fact that I
- 9:21Speaker 7: can continue doing what I'm doing, and I feel like
- 9:25Speaker 7: the resistance that I challenge my body with psychologically and
- 9:30Speaker 7: physicity and all those things always really makes the days
- 9:34Speaker 7: more tolerable, not feel so resistant. So I just really
- 9:39Speaker 7: try and make sure that I get in on these
- 9:40Speaker 7: free orful days a week, no matter where I'm at.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Sleep is huge to me.
- 9:47Speaker 7: I think getting enough rest is super important for our bodies.
- 9:51Speaker 7: Talked about recoverment, I'm sure at some point.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But that's for me and that's what it is.
- 9:56Speaker 7: I just try to make sure that the hotels I'm
- 9:58Speaker 7: staying at and a lot of times go to a seat.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That's totally not prepared for you to work out, but.
- 10:03Speaker 7: Then there's other seats from the total lift opposite where
- 10:05Speaker 7: you show up and it's like there's something to do
- 10:07Speaker 7: no matter where you work. Make sure the hotel has
- 10:10Speaker 7: what I need, get it into routines or three or
- 10:13Speaker 7: four days a week, and then make.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Sure my diet is just a little closer if I
- 10:21Speaker 2: had to bring my menu by journal.
- 10:28Speaker 6: I also about controlling your controlling, so you know, there's
- 10:31Speaker 6: certain things that you as the individual, can definitely control.
- 10:35Speaker 6: There's certain things you can't. So when I'm traveling, I
- 10:39Speaker 6: control the things that I can control, the decisions that
- 10:41Speaker 6: I can actually make them benefitting in There's certain things
- 10:45Speaker 6: you can't. So you may have one hotel in the
- 10:49Speaker 6: place you're going to that does not facilitate being able.
- 10:54Speaker 2: To do the type of leaps you don't want to do.
- 10:57Speaker 6: But I can control getting up and going for a run,
- 10:59Speaker 6: you know, those kinds of things I can. So I
- 11:01Speaker 6: always try to look at my travel or cinerary. I
- 11:04Speaker 6: guess in that way. So that's not just for that's
- 11:07Speaker 6: notus just not for the actual exercise.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It's also for the diet as well.
- 11:10Speaker 6: So my one yroutine that I have here, you can't
- 11:15Speaker 6: replicate it one hundercent the way that I can elsewhere,
- 11:18Speaker 6: but in some way I take moments of it and
- 11:22Speaker 6: to extend it's still him behind. For me, mindfulness is huge.
- 11:26Speaker 6: So meditation and something we can do anywhere. And I
- 11:29Speaker 6: think that the idea of meditation in this day and
- 11:32Speaker 6: age has become more prolific and what it does you
- 11:35Speaker 6: to rest your mind, particularly when you're traveling so much,
- 11:38Speaker 6: it could be quite quite exhausted mentally, so to be
- 11:42Speaker 6: other Still, meditating.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Is something that I love doing. Obviously still exercise.
- 11:47Speaker 6: If I have one sweat session your day, I meditate
- 11:50Speaker 6: and then ebyte. It's honestly the things that you control
- 11:54Speaker 6: that maybe I can tell you guys, control and control,
- 11:56Speaker 6: it's the biggest thing you can can take away. Obviously,
- 12:00Speaker 6: die wise, you can't always hit the same sea wars
- 12:03Speaker 6: in can you know you can get the same thing
- 12:06Speaker 6: you can't So I can't get my avocados kind.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Of south, and that's how it happens there.
- 12:13Speaker 6: I can make you make my own tale avocado, so
- 12:16Speaker 6: I wouldn't take it that that kind of thing. So
- 12:18Speaker 6: you can see what I'm saying and dial I have
- 12:21Speaker 6: a supplement that helps me friends the day.
- 12:24Speaker 2: That's my routine. But whenever I always have that. So
- 12:27Speaker 2: that's kind of stuff.
- 12:31Speaker 8: I wish I had an Australian accent everything, just like
- 12:36Speaker 8: you got everything back on value about.
- 12:45Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:45Speaker 8: And so the travel thing is is is you know,
- 12:49Speaker 8: I'm a runner, and I and I sort of go
- 12:53Speaker 8: back and forork with long distance running and uh and
- 12:56Speaker 8: and and it's grants. But for me when I when
- 13:01Speaker 8: I am in a new place, whether it's for work
- 13:03Speaker 8: or for pleasure, I never I never go anywhere for
- 13:08Speaker 8: longer than a.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Day without running shoes because I just know that, like
- 13:12Speaker 2: if I can.
- 13:12Speaker 8: Get out, even if it's for a fifteen minute sprint session,
- 13:16Speaker 8: I'm gonna get in network.
- 13:18Speaker 2: And you know, it's not whether or not, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 2: it's it's it's hard when you're traveling.
- 13:26Speaker 8: To get to to get to a gym where you're
- 13:29Speaker 8: gonna feel confident that there's gonna have enough weight.
- 13:31Speaker 2: They're gonna have enough weight for me to have like
- 13:33Speaker 2: an actual session.
- 13:34Speaker 6: Like most gyms will have a you know, we'll have
- 13:38Speaker 6: you know, dumbbells up to whatever it is, forty pounds,
- 13:42Speaker 6: and maybe they'll have one.
- 13:44Speaker 8: Plate for the bench press if there is a bench there.
- 13:47Speaker 8: So I really try not to depend on that ship.
- 13:51Speaker 8: When I travel, I depend on my motivation to get out,
- 13:56Speaker 8: on my.
- 13:57Speaker 6: Motivation to do two hundred push ups, you know, playing
- 14:00Speaker 6: for fucking fifteen minutes if I have to.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I need to get that sweat, and it's really important
- 14:05Speaker 2: for me.
- 14:05Speaker 8: And then in terms of health and well, in terms
- 14:07Speaker 8: of like like hell, how I'm eating. It's really hard
- 14:10Speaker 8: on the road, it's really hard, and uh you know,
- 14:15Speaker 8: like you guys.
- 14:15Speaker 2: You know it's it's it's a mental game.
- 14:17Speaker 7: For me.
- 14:17Speaker 6: I could probably eat like bread for the next month
- 14:21Speaker 6: and I really wouldn't see like that being the difference
- 14:24Speaker 6: in my body because I work out a lot. I know,
- 14:29Speaker 6: I work out.
- 14:31Speaker 2: I work out like it didn't work out, Yeah, I
- 14:37Speaker 2: feel it. But like I mean, because I work out,
- 14:40Speaker 2: you know I can do that.
- 14:42Speaker 4: I can.
- 14:42Speaker 8: I can splurge every now and again, for sure, But mentally,
- 14:48Speaker 8: what eating even a cheat meal for me? Unfortunately these days,
- 14:52Speaker 8: Like mentally, I just I wanted at the time, and then.
- 14:56Speaker 2: The next morning, I'm like, man, I didn't have to
- 14:58Speaker 2: do that. I didn't have can eat that extra thing?
- 15:02Speaker 2: And that's what that's what talking about.
- 15:04Speaker 8: It's given me a real like I know for a
- 15:07Speaker 8: fact today that if I don't accomplish anything in.
- 15:10Speaker 2: The day, be a business, be a family. If I
- 15:15Speaker 2: get to the gym.
- 15:16Speaker 8: And I get a good sweat on and I need right,
- 15:18Speaker 8: I feel accomplished.
- 15:20Speaker 6: I feel like I've conquered something. And I think that's
- 15:23Speaker 6: what fitness helping long has given me.
- 15:26Speaker 8: It gives me an opportunity to like know that I
- 15:29Speaker 8: can do something great for myself and the only person
- 15:32Speaker 8: or the only things standing in the way of that
- 15:35Speaker 8: gives me. And you know, when you train your body
- 15:39Speaker 8: to do that, you you're you know your you're it's
- 15:43Speaker 8: hard to work yourself.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Out of that place.
- 15:49Speaker 3: It makes sense.
- 15:50Speaker 4: So I've noticed something right off the bat. This podcast
- 15:57Speaker 4: is definitely explicit. Definitely no, it's fun as long as
- 16:03Speaker 4: you mark them with the E, like we're good. So
- 16:05Speaker 4: when you see the E on this episode of the
- 16:08Speaker 4: first ever live hurdle, I figured it was inevitable.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Like with ther up.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Here, it wasn't just you, it wasn't just you.
- 16:16Speaker 4: But I actually think Turnout's episode of Hurdle is explicit
- 16:19Speaker 4: and I two stories.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It's fun. I'm down with it. I'm down with it.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We're getting real down here.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Speaking of getting real, Dan brought up meditation. And I
- 16:30Speaker 3: was having a conversation with a.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Friend of mine last night and I said, I get
- 16:35Speaker 4: to like minute seven and I'm a head spacer. I
- 16:39Speaker 4: get to like minute seven of headspace, and I think
- 16:42Speaker 4: this is what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to
- 16:43Speaker 4: realize that you're like drifting off, and part of the
- 16:46Speaker 4: exercises that you come back to it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I'm so struggling with the comeback to it personally.
- 16:54Speaker 2: I don't know if anything even related.
- 16:55Speaker 4: So what I would like to pose to you guys
- 17:00Speaker 4: as inequery is for someone like me who feels like
- 17:03Speaker 4: they're struggling.
- 17:04Speaker 3: To like really get into it or for whatever the
- 17:07Speaker 3: case may be.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And do you have any meditation acts that I should
- 17:10Speaker 4: be picking up to feel good about this? I know
- 17:12Speaker 4: we talked a lot about meditation on your episode, So
- 17:15Speaker 4: maybe Dan, you'll you'll start us off here.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 6: I think first thing to accept is you're never going
- 17:22Speaker 6: to be perfect anything insane that.
- 17:25Speaker 2: But your first thing to note is that what you
- 17:30Speaker 2: can control is the focus of you breathing. So often,
- 17:34Speaker 2: you're gonna have plenty of distractions.
- 17:36Speaker 6: You're gonna have a day where you've been absolutely chaotic
- 17:38Speaker 6: at work, or you know you didn't.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Get enough sleep or something that's gonna perfects. We create your.
- 17:44Speaker 6: Mind to be completely puzzled and not easy to focus.
- 17:49Speaker 6: So that's the first thing to realize, and this happens
- 17:52Speaker 6: to people of multiple years of experienced meditation versus someone
- 17:55Speaker 6: who's done for the earlier month. The next thing is
- 17:59Speaker 6: that what you can I said that breath.
- 18:00Speaker 2: So what I always employ is that you take a
- 18:04Speaker 2: deep breath in through your nose.
- 18:06Speaker 6: And just concentrate on that moment what the actual sound
- 18:09Speaker 6: of a going thing out in your nose is. And
- 18:12Speaker 6: so what you start to do is ever seeing the
- 18:14Speaker 6: time you drift off, you go oakare to go back
- 18:16Speaker 6: to my bread and over a certain period of time
- 18:19Speaker 6: it may take you.
- 18:20Speaker 2: You may start with three minute meditation, five minutes, seven.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Minutes in and you know, the longer you have your
- 18:25Speaker 6: meditation practice of that morning off or afternoon, you'll find
- 18:30Speaker 6: yourself the length of time you will do it, it
- 18:32Speaker 6: still increases the ability you're just still dripped off. But
- 18:35Speaker 6: your cases of your periods of drinking off throughout of
- 18:38Speaker 6: focus or clarity are actually length So you may have
- 18:41Speaker 6: a twenty minute meditation, but you may be in that
- 18:44Speaker 6: state of benefit for maybe two minutes and a four
- 18:47Speaker 6: minute and maybe a one minute as opposed to being
- 18:49Speaker 6: on the three minutes early getting a thirty sec the
- 18:52Speaker 6: twenty second and so on.
- 18:54Speaker 2: So I always say, just breathe three nose.
- 18:56Speaker 6: You may get a distraction, You may hear some dog
- 18:58Speaker 6: barking or someone doing outrageous in the apartment next to
- 19:02Speaker 6: you in.
- 19:02Speaker 2: The all those yorks and that did not happen. But
- 19:05Speaker 2: then just go back to your breath and just continue
- 19:07Speaker 2: to go in and out through your nose, or how
- 19:09Speaker 2: are your.
- 19:09Speaker 6: Favorite breathing practices, and you'll be surprised there after a
- 19:13Speaker 6: while you're focusing so much on that that that that
- 19:17Speaker 6: moment that your head clears, and that's when you can
- 19:20Speaker 6: start to do That's why, that's what works for me.
- 19:24Speaker 6: And I think by focusing on one thing that isn't
- 19:26Speaker 6: actually through my mind, I'm focusing on almost like the
- 19:29Speaker 6: thought of the looking at my nose breathing, and then
- 19:32Speaker 6: my mind just switches off. And again I'm not perfect,
- 19:35Speaker 6: So I have my money drifted off and think about,
- 19:38Speaker 6: you know, should have forgot about order the restaurant? How
- 19:41Speaker 6: many videos attle? Bit more of this kind of stuff.
- 19:43Speaker 6: But I'm just saying it. No one's perfect, but the
- 19:45Speaker 6: best that you do.
- 19:46Speaker 2: In my opinion, is focused on that money.
- 19:49Speaker 6: Yes, thoughts, did you get a meditator to stay just.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That voice?
- 20:01Speaker 7: You know?
- 20:02Speaker 2: I think for me, you know meditation.
- 20:04Speaker 8: So I'm a headspacer too. I like a headspace. Uh
- 20:08Speaker 8: and no disrespect to like.
- 20:10Speaker 3: The other meditation apps, like there are a lot.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Of great options out there.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I'm also a sucker for the voice.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It's Andy's voice. It just doesn't Andy.
- 20:21Speaker 3: He's the He's the guy that you hear in the headspace.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I I I so, I was. I have a
- 20:27Speaker 2: story that I'll tell her real quick.
- 20:29Speaker 8: I was the last few year's health wise, I've been
- 20:32Speaker 8: I've been like dealing with some stuff and just trying
- 20:35Speaker 8: to dig up and find what's going on, and you know.
- 20:38Speaker 6: It's all stressed and anxiety related. But I went to
- 20:42Speaker 6: this place where this woman was like before I she
- 20:48Speaker 6: took my blood pressure and she was like, oh, your
- 20:50Speaker 6: blood pressure is a little high.
- 20:51Speaker 2: She was like, you're nervous. I was like a little
- 20:53Speaker 2: ancius and she was like, okay, I'm gonna have you
- 20:55Speaker 2: do something.
- 20:56Speaker 8: She said, sit down and relax and she said, breathe
- 21:00Speaker 8: in through your nose.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Six six counts.
- 21:04Speaker 8: At the top of the six count hold your breath
- 21:07Speaker 8: for seven seconds, and then exhale for eight seconds, and
- 21:11Speaker 8: do that three times.
- 21:12Speaker 6: In a row.
- 21:13Speaker 2: So I did.
- 21:14Speaker 8: I breathed into six seconds, held for seven seconds at
- 21:17Speaker 8: exales for eight seconds three times, and my blood pressure
- 21:21Speaker 8: dropped like twenty five points immediately, and I've.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Never had high blood pressure before.
- 21:28Speaker 6: But she said that breadth is what controls your pretty
- 21:34Speaker 6: much everything.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Your breath is being able to slow.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Down in your breath and manipulate how you're feeling at
- 21:42Speaker 6: and in a given time.
- 21:43Speaker 2: And I was like, that was like.
- 21:46Speaker 8: As much evidence as I needed to know that this
- 21:50Speaker 8: is something I should take seriously. And so if I'm
- 21:53Speaker 8: ever in places and times where I'm like I'm doing headspace,
- 21:57Speaker 8: I'm far along in headspace and I'm like, I want
- 22:00Speaker 8: to do something different, what I'll.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Do is i will focus on those breathing drills.
- 22:07Speaker 8: So I'll breathe them for six seconds, hope for seven seconds,
- 22:10Speaker 8: excel for eight, bring them for seven.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Seconds, hold for eight seconds, excel for nine and I'll
- 22:14Speaker 2: do that for as long as I can.
- 22:16Speaker 8: And then sometimes I'll be holding my breath for thirty
- 22:18Speaker 8: seconds and in these exercises and exceling for as long
- 22:22Speaker 8: as I can. And I got to tell you that
- 22:24Speaker 8: it is like not only my life insanely focused because
- 22:27Speaker 8: I'm counting and trying to compete, compete with the last situation, but.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Like when I'm done, I'm like, holy shit, this is awesome.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Like I feel different.
- 22:39Speaker 6: I feel physically, mentally and spiritually different than I did
- 22:45Speaker 6: before I got into it.
- 22:46Speaker 8: And it's not knocking headspace. It's a different kind of
- 22:49Speaker 8: experience for me. But the breath drills are like.
- 22:54Speaker 2: When I open up my eyes after headspace, I definitely feel.
- 23:00Speaker 7: Great.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But I'm done with the breathing bills. I feel different.
- 23:07Speaker 2: It's worth a try. I don't know, it's crazy. Yeah
- 23:19Speaker 2: you do.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I didn't expect you to say that.
- 23:22Speaker 7: I mean, do you want to share. I wouldn't say
- 23:27Speaker 7: it's something that I plan out. I just take the
- 23:31Speaker 7: opportunities when I can, like if I'm in an airporder,
- 23:35Speaker 7: in an airplane or punt of taxi or huber and
- 23:37Speaker 7: I just have just a few minutes to close my eyes.
- 23:40Speaker 2: As they were saying something I wanted, this kind of
- 23:42Speaker 2: came to my mind.
- 23:43Speaker 7: I want to show we have our nervous system is
- 23:46Speaker 7: a really awesome thing, and we have control of certain
- 23:51Speaker 7: nerves and we don't have control nerves.
- 23:53Speaker 2: So you have things you have control of and then
- 23:56Speaker 2: you don't write.
- 23:57Speaker 7: So when I breathe, if I'm not thinking about it,
- 24:00Speaker 7: I'm still breathing. So that nerve that controls our breath
- 24:05Speaker 7: is sympathetic and paris, which means it has you can
- 24:11Speaker 7: control it and you can't.
- 24:12Speaker 2: And there's times where you don't need to control. Like
- 24:14Speaker 2: if I said stop breathing, you can stop. If I
- 24:16Speaker 2: said stop your art from bening can, thank God. But
- 24:25Speaker 2: I don't like that for me.
- 24:26Speaker 7: The reason I shared that is for me understanding that
- 24:31Speaker 7: concept or that science helps me understand why I'm reading
- 24:37Speaker 7: because I want to access that parasympathetic relaxation side.
- 24:43Speaker 2: So that's what I'm doing, and it's I like the
- 24:46Speaker 2: breathing thing, like focusing on that in my mind. I
- 24:49Speaker 2: try and find I try and cover that space in
- 24:52Speaker 2: my eyes and I close my eyes with the color.
- 24:55Speaker 2: The color. It's not as exciting as you guys. I learned.
- 25:06Speaker 4: A lot of this makes me think about self care,
- 25:08Speaker 4: which is you know, the buzziest term of twenty eighteen.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Everyone's talking about self care? What do you do for
- 25:15Speaker 4: self care? Does your self care routine involvementitation? Do you
- 25:20Speaker 4: face mask? I'm sure all three of you face masks,
- 25:24Speaker 4: not Yeah, definitely yeah, appointment appointment, appointments, facial appointment.
- 25:30Speaker 2: What do you mean here?
- 25:33Speaker 3: For me, part of my self care routine is recovery.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I'm actually thinking about the fact that I would love
- 25:41Speaker 4: to use a barragun right now because my par offormance
- 25:44Speaker 4: is acting up as I sit here and it's a
- 25:45Speaker 4: little cranky.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Yeah, we can work out that after. So let's let's
- 25:50Speaker 3: transition and talk.
- 25:50Speaker 2: A little bit about recovery then.
- 25:52Speaker 4: So for me, I feel like I view my recovery
- 25:57Speaker 4: which is using a frabout, which is using a full roller,
- 26:00Speaker 4: which is taking the time to do the things which
- 26:02Speaker 4: aren't necessarily my workouts, so running.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Most days most mostly these days.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Uh, what what does what does recovery look like?
- 26:12Speaker 2: For you guys? Like I mean, you're you're doing it
- 26:14Speaker 2: all the time.
- 26:15Speaker 4: So tell me first, first and foremost, why is it
- 26:17Speaker 4: important that we take time to recover?
- 26:22Speaker 7: My perspective and where I am in in that part
- 26:28Speaker 7: of people's thinking is really unique. I travel a lot,
- 26:34Speaker 7: and I'm presenting what is kind of new science and
- 26:38Speaker 7: new understanding about what our body does and how it
- 26:41Speaker 7: recovers and how it heals, and so my perspective on
- 26:45Speaker 7: recovery is a little bit more.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Evolved, I think than most people.
- 26:50Speaker 7: And what's kind of annoying to me is people it's
- 26:53Speaker 7: like an event, people like I'm going to go recover
- 26:58Speaker 7: and are.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Bodies don't know that? Like you know we have.
- 27:03Speaker 7: So anyway, for me, recovery is it goes back to
- 27:08Speaker 7: the first question you ask. But if I'm getting on
- 27:10Speaker 7: an airplane and i know over the next forty eight
- 27:14Speaker 7: hours that I'm gonna kick my body's ass, then I
- 27:18Speaker 7: need to make sure that when I have time, I'm hydrating.
- 27:20Speaker 2: When I have time that I'm relaxing.
- 27:23Speaker 7: When I have time, i can stretch my lbeck when
- 27:25Speaker 7: I have a minute, I'm taking the tension off certain
- 27:27Speaker 7: joints in my body. So I'm always aware of that.
- 27:30Speaker 7: So when I because I think now, as quickly as
- 27:34Speaker 7: Dave's go by for me, I'll I'll get half an
- 27:38Speaker 7: hour workout, and if I'm not prepared for that, whether
- 27:41Speaker 7: it's before or after that will beat me up. It
- 27:44Speaker 7: kills my immune system. I'm tired, I'm grogging, and my
- 27:48Speaker 7: head's boggy. So in a sense, recovery is everything. It's hydration,
- 27:54Speaker 7: it's rest, it's from treating your body before you work
- 27:57Speaker 7: out and then taking just a few minutes to treat
- 27:59Speaker 7: it after you out, and then they're leaving attention throughout
- 28:02Speaker 7: our bodies throughout the day and being aware of it.
- 28:05Speaker 2: That to me is the most important thing, you know.
- 28:08Speaker 2: I'll work with patients that come in and they have.
- 28:09Speaker 7: A certain position, for a certain posture, and they don't
- 28:12Speaker 7: know why their hipside.
- 28:13Speaker 2: We all just sat on.
- 28:18Speaker 3: I don't know, everyone's staring at the panel in the
- 28:20Speaker 3: front of the room. Notice he said, pastor and strange.
- 28:25Speaker 2: I have to do the same thing.
- 28:27Speaker 7: But I give people that don't understand their little habits
- 28:30Speaker 7: they get into and then suddenly they have this pain
- 28:33Speaker 7: and they don't know where it came from. And then
- 28:35Speaker 7: I'll treat them three or four times and it's the
- 28:37Speaker 7: same day. I'm thinking, Okay, you're doing something, because I'm
- 28:40Speaker 7: fixing it every time you leave. So I think it's
- 28:42Speaker 7: really just understanding your lifestyle and being aware of times
- 28:48Speaker 7: that your body's taken a beating and it's not recovery.
- 28:51Speaker 2: To me, is not an event, it's a process. It
- 28:54Speaker 2: starts as part.
- 28:55Speaker 7: Of something you would do on a daily basis, whether
- 28:58Speaker 7: if you're my mom who is not year as active
- 29:00Speaker 7: as I am, or you're a professional athlete, there's you.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Have to incorporate that in your life.
- 29:05Speaker 7: You know, I'm going to say this, Warren Buffett, that's
- 29:08Speaker 7: a really cool commercial about life insurance.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Did not expect that, all right? Yeah? Okay?
- 29:13Speaker 7: And he talks about if you had if you got
- 29:16Speaker 7: a car as a gift. I don't know if you
- 29:18Speaker 7: guys heard this, If you had a car as a
- 29:20Speaker 7: gift when you were five, and that's the only car
- 29:22Speaker 7: you get for the rest of your life, and what what.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Fuel would you use? What what oil would you put
- 29:29Speaker 2: in it?
- 29:29Speaker 7: Where would you park it, who would you have cleaning?
- 29:31Speaker 7: Where would you drive it? How would you treat that thing?
- 29:34Speaker 7: And then he flips it at the end and it says,
- 29:35Speaker 7: we only get one body? Do you ever think about that?
- 29:39Speaker 7: So I think that's part of what I like to
- 29:42Speaker 7: like look at and when I'm out talking, and that's
- 29:44Speaker 7: what I'm sharing is, let's not have this just be
- 29:46Speaker 7: an event. It's got to be part of your every
- 29:49Speaker 7: day because that's aging is torn down.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Wait, Greig, follow up us before we talk more about
- 29:57Speaker 4: what you guys either cover.
- 30:00Speaker 9: Obviously not everyone has access to a fair gun.
- 30:04Speaker 2: What crazy everybody?
- 30:07Speaker 4: So the question is I am like, I'm hearing what
- 30:12Speaker 4: you're I'm hearing what you're putting down. I I'm decided
- 30:16Speaker 4: I'm gonna take more time for prehab.
- 30:19Speaker 3: For rehab, you advise me.
- 30:22Speaker 2: To do two to three things. What am I doing?
- 30:27Speaker 2: You can't do that to me, I'm doing it. I
- 30:29Speaker 2: know I'm gonna talk about the gun. I mean that
- 30:31Speaker 2: you have to.
- 30:33Speaker 7: Honestly, I know it seems that thank.
- 30:36Speaker 3: You, that's something as you you can.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Talk about the gun, but then I want something else.
- 30:45Speaker 7: I think rest is important that that would be top
- 30:50Speaker 7: three for me. Hydration and diet would be the other,
- 30:55Speaker 7: and then self care, which is kind of what we're
- 30:57Speaker 7: talking about. And to me again, here you go, if
- 31:01Speaker 7: I have the farragon would be which I knew everywhere
- 31:03Speaker 7: I go. It's just that little thing that takes away
- 31:06Speaker 7: the edge when I when I've got one, I stand
- 31:09Speaker 7: up and my hip flex.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Of grabs and I just like oh man, and then
- 31:13Speaker 2: I have to deal with that. I can hit the
- 31:14Speaker 2: gun on that and stretch that area or increase the
- 31:19Speaker 2: range of motion, but that joint and which kind of
- 31:21Speaker 2: takes that ape.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Away because you because you went there just for anyone
- 31:25Speaker 4: who might not completely understand what the paragun is.
- 31:28Speaker 2: I wish I brought mine.
- 31:30Speaker 9: Why don't we just tell them like what it is,
- 31:32Speaker 9: so then every time you reference it going forward right,
- 31:34Speaker 9: everyone's in the lip.
- 31:35Speaker 7: It's the agon is a a lot of your price
- 31:39Speaker 7: scene on Instagram, but it's a handheld percussion self treatment device,
- 31:43Speaker 7: and we call percussion because it has a large amplitude,
- 31:47Speaker 7: and the amplitude is really kind of a special sauce
- 31:50Speaker 7: behind why it works so efficiently effectively to our body.
- 31:54Speaker 7: It reperfuses the tissue, which that's a really fancy word
- 31:58Speaker 7: for just kind of hydrating the tissue and cool way,
- 32:01Speaker 7: but that's what it is. It goes a bunch of
- 32:03Speaker 7: different attachments and it's meant to use on yourself. Although
- 32:08Speaker 7: there are we have classes that teach people and how
- 32:10Speaker 7: to use them on other people, and physical therapists and
- 32:13Speaker 7: certification courses and all that stuff, but quite Frankly, it's
- 32:16Speaker 7: so easy to use on your stuff.
- 32:18Speaker 2: These guys we were talking about it when I first
- 32:19Speaker 2: came in.
- 32:20Speaker 6: So that's what it is.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And if you haven't seen.
- 32:23Speaker 7: Its marketing, like, dude, if I buy one, we leave
- 32:31Speaker 7: us alone.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Do you guys mind talk to me a little bit
- 32:36Speaker 3: about what you do for recovery?
- 32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so churn out.
- 32:42Speaker 6: I go through the math of this year, and I
- 32:44Speaker 6: think it's really had a lot of the importance of
- 32:47Speaker 6: probably the other side.
- 32:48Speaker 2: So I'll be honest, like I'm a abag and go
- 32:51Speaker 2: I just like most of you, all of you.
- 32:55Speaker 6: And I think we forgive me for not saying this
- 32:58Speaker 6: in the right context, but for all of us to
- 33:00Speaker 6: go to the gym health and we actually would cover up.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Now I say that.
- 33:04Speaker 6: You know, you think about it if you go to
- 33:05Speaker 6: a mad sweat station or whatever, you group classes, or
- 33:08Speaker 6: you go your economics or you go here, whatever a
- 33:10Speaker 6: gym you go to, how much time do you actually
- 33:12Speaker 6: are you rushing out the doors to get to work.
- 33:15Speaker 6: And I think about it like, yeah, of course you're
- 33:17Speaker 6: a lot Like I'll do the active part great, So
- 33:20Speaker 6: like how do you work out? I've realized and through
- 33:24Speaker 6: that's my professional life is the recovery is so much
- 33:27Speaker 6: more important statistically, so you look bit like you actual benefits.
- 33:33Speaker 6: So you do, you work out. You know, you're obviously
- 33:36Speaker 6: to a lot of protests.
- 33:37Speaker 2: If this is all these kind of things that occur,
- 33:40Speaker 2: you drop and.
- 33:40Speaker 6: Then you're meant to recover the recover. If you recover correctly,
- 33:43Speaker 6: you get to a higher point that you are officially starting,
- 33:46Speaker 6: so you get enough with trend. However, if you don't
- 33:48Speaker 6: recover enough, you actually then activate again and unfortunately have
- 33:52Speaker 6: a downward trend. So that's a statistical part, and it
- 33:55Speaker 6: gets to the scientific communicational part. But more importantly you
- 33:59Speaker 6: think about often you're actually active and often you kind
- 34:02Speaker 6: of chill out a little bit.
- 34:03Speaker 2: It's it's often not actually a carrect. So what I
- 34:06Speaker 2: always thought about is recovery is my opinion.
- 34:09Speaker 6: Diet in nutrition, intake die I don't like that worden nutuition, intake, sleep.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Patterns and obviously there go.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so I always talk about eating right, eating right
- 34:23Speaker 6: all works for you. So we all have these different
- 34:25Speaker 6: diets or plans going on right now. The most important
- 34:28Speaker 6: thing is the one that works for you is the
- 34:29Speaker 6: best one. So whether you're keto, vegan, palio or just
- 34:33Speaker 6: eat the rainbow, whatever it is. You have to listen
- 34:35Speaker 6: to your body and that's the best one to Obviously,
- 34:38Speaker 6: some people say I don't like to eat straight after
- 34:39Speaker 6: I work out.
- 34:40Speaker 2: That's cool. I'm not going to watch you do that. Well,
- 34:42Speaker 2: athletes who absolutely can't do breakfast, and that's cool, So
- 34:46Speaker 2: just don't do that.
- 34:47Speaker 6: But what I will say is, you know, things like sleep,
- 34:50Speaker 6: you know, not everyone has to have eight hours sleep
- 34:52Speaker 6: in my opinion, and that's the you know, seven hours.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I regularly do.
- 34:56Speaker 6: Six and a half probably, and that's enough for me.
- 34:59Speaker 6: I look at my I've actually on a test that's
- 35:01Speaker 6: not for me. But the most important thing is that
- 35:03Speaker 6: it works for you. But as long as you're doing it,
- 35:05Speaker 6: the answer the DC. So again just all about under
- 35:08Speaker 6: stating what recovery years after the amount of exercise we
- 35:11Speaker 6: actually put in our body, guarantee it, after the training,
- 35:14Speaker 6: the kays and whiles we're putting into my bodies last
- 35:17Speaker 6: a couple of months. Recovery will not be able to
- 35:19Speaker 6: walk properly if I didn't you know, roll out stretch
- 35:23Speaker 6: have plenty of vibration.
- 35:25Speaker 2: In water is next to nothing.
- 35:29Speaker 6: I'm gonna throw out a plug for the therap and
- 35:32Speaker 6: honestly I would.
- 35:35Speaker 2: If you weren't here.
- 35:36Speaker 8: I'm a recent recipient of a there and I'm just
- 35:41Speaker 8: going to say that it is spectacular, it is incredible
- 35:48Speaker 8: and uh and and truly, I haven't had a tool
- 35:51Speaker 8: that I've been able to use at home outside of
- 35:54Speaker 8: a phone roller or roller crossbar.
- 35:58Speaker 6: That has given me the relief that I want because
- 36:03Speaker 6: I have. I had a rupture to alfwhere al five
- 36:06Speaker 6: about five years ago, and and that pain never goes away.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It's like always there. So so just for me at
- 36:13Speaker 2: this point is just.
- 36:14Speaker 8: Managing it and uh and I don't do it with
- 36:18Speaker 8: pain killers and so I tend to do it with
- 36:20Speaker 8: a crossballs or anything I can jam into my name.
- 36:23Speaker 10: But but you know.
- 36:36Speaker 6: So what I what I love, I love and you
- 36:45Speaker 6: know and and recovery for me, absolutely, recovery means so
- 36:48Speaker 6: many things to me in.
- 36:49Speaker 8: In in my life, throughout my journey, recovery from fitness,
- 36:55Speaker 8: uh is is really necessary. I'm gonna be honest, I'm
- 36:59Speaker 8: not I'm not an expert, and I mean I don't
- 37:03Speaker 8: give it nearly what it should be and I trained.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Like an animal, but uh stretching, lots of water.
- 37:13Speaker 8: Now there again, honestly, I give my I give myself
- 37:18Speaker 8: Saturday off always, Saturday is always off, and depending on
- 37:25Speaker 8: when the Giants are playing on Sundays, potentially Sundays off to.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Paying right now.
- 37:43Speaker 2: But you know, I I.
- 37:45Speaker 6: I, I know for a fact that that recovery is
- 37:49Speaker 6: absolutely integral to any athlete or anybody trying to feel
- 37:54Speaker 6: uh feel good in in in a life of health
- 37:58Speaker 6: and wellness and fitness.
- 38:00Speaker 2: It's necessary.
- 38:01Speaker 8: For years, I didn't do it, and I suffered the
- 38:03Speaker 8: reponcussions of injuries, constantly constantly injured.
- 38:06Speaker 6: And I was a competitive athlete, so I was constantly
- 38:10Speaker 6: you know, injured because I just didn't put the time
- 38:13Speaker 6: into recovery. And so you know, and one thing that
- 38:16Speaker 6: I think that I'm learning more and more about today
- 38:20Speaker 6: is sleep. Sleep is as I get older, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 6: my birthday is coming up, I'll be a year older,
- 38:29Speaker 6: and and you know, I feel like sleep is really important.
- 38:37Speaker 6: Sleep is really important as you climb the LA forty,
- 38:43Speaker 6: you know, you want to get that sleep in. And
- 38:45Speaker 6: so you know, if I if I sleep five and
- 38:48Speaker 6: a half hours, I'm just not if I sleep seven
- 38:52Speaker 6: to eight hours, world of difference. Life is life is beautiful.
- 38:56Speaker 6: I can manage anything, truly, And so when you said
- 39:01Speaker 6: sleeping one of.
- 39:01Speaker 2: The top three, I couldn't couldn't agree more.
- 39:05Speaker 6: It was so important people down for sleep.
- 39:10Speaker 2: And then like I add things into my into my routine.
- 39:13Speaker 6: Like you know, athletic greens is a really important athletics.
- 39:17Speaker 6: It's like where I just get that one ding morning
- 39:19Speaker 6: more just taking that shot of all the goodies that
- 39:24Speaker 6: come in athletic rings and stuff like that.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I love it.
- 39:33Speaker 11: Dan mentioned something which we haven't touched on yet, which
- 39:35Speaker 11: is the fact that you've got a bunch of marathon
- 39:37Speaker 11: runners up here, right.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, right.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Me, uh Dan, and turned out already in New York
- 39:48Speaker 3: Marathon this year.
- 39:49Speaker 4: And uh, I just want to take a quick second
- 39:52Speaker 4: to say thank you all obviously for coming here, but
- 39:55Speaker 4: also for your donations to City Harvest Tour now is
- 39:59Speaker 4: running on how the City Harvest this year. I los
- 40:04Speaker 4: have that updated like event Bright or my menmo, which
- 40:08Speaker 4: are both going crazy right now. But thank you because
- 40:11Speaker 4: I can confidently say we've probably agreed it's a thousand
- 40:14Speaker 4: dollars for City Harvests at this event.
- 40:17Speaker 8: So I'm the team captain for City Harvest this year
- 40:20Speaker 8: and thank you guys for beings the world.
- 40:24Speaker 4: So I'm really really happy about that. With the marathon, obviously,
- 40:28Speaker 4: training for a marathon is a crazy goal for anyone,
- 40:32Speaker 4: whether you've done it once, whether you've done it seven times.
- 40:35Speaker 4: I was saying the other day that I've run six now,
- 40:39Speaker 4: and every single time I get to this point in
- 40:41Speaker 4: the training where you're doing like your long gifts run
- 40:44Speaker 4: and in my head, I'm still like, what the hell
- 40:46Speaker 4: are you doing? Like this is not easier than it
- 40:49Speaker 4: was like seven years ago or whenever the first one happened.
- 40:52Speaker 4: So this idea of setting like really big goals, you
- 40:56Speaker 4: all have been very successful in what you do.
- 40:59Speaker 2: So my part for.
- 41:00Speaker 4: You around goal setting is when you set a big goal,
- 41:04Speaker 4: what is a strategy that you use to kind.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Of accomplish the bigger picture items?
- 41:11Speaker 2: Because it's not like, for example.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I when I was younger in college, I went through
- 41:19Speaker 4: a very big weight loss. I lost seventy pounds, and
- 41:21Speaker 4: I didn't start and think to myself, I'm going to
- 41:25Speaker 4: lose seventy pounds like that's exactly what's going to happen here, because.
- 41:28Speaker 2: That wasn't going to work for me.
- 41:29Speaker 4: So for me when it comes to goal setting, I
- 41:33Speaker 4: am like all about the small wins.
- 41:35Speaker 3: I'm like, I did meat tater tots today, that's a win.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Like, let's go for that.
- 41:39Speaker 3: Like I ran a half a mile today, also a win.
- 41:42Speaker 4: Then you run a half a mile every day for
- 41:44Speaker 4: a summer and you are like victory laps all over
- 41:47Speaker 4: the place. So what are strategies that you guys use
- 41:50Speaker 4: when setting your big goals to kind of check things
- 41:53Speaker 4: off the list.
- 41:56Speaker 7: I'll go first, start at it. Good goals, goals and strategies.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Well, I wish I wouldn't have made a goal to
- 42:06Speaker 2: run a marathon. No, I'm really excited about it. Uh.
- 42:12Speaker 6: You know, sometimes I believe that there are I'm an
- 42:19Speaker 6: extreme person in anything I do.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I happen to to sort of dive head first in
- 42:27Speaker 2: anything I do, And a lot of the times I.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Have lofty goals and a great example of of of
- 42:34Speaker 6: like how I get.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Through it or what I read.
- 42:36Speaker 6: A strategize is I might not be naturally talented at
- 42:41Speaker 6: any one thing in particular, but I have a huge
- 42:44Speaker 6: heart and I know this about.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Myself, and I will power through to the finish line.
- 42:49Speaker 2: And like yesterday, I was running up.
- 42:52Speaker 8: State and it was insane hills and I was I
- 42:56Speaker 8: was on my I was on my twentieth mile, and
- 42:58Speaker 8: I was just like and I just.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Looked ahead of me and Nalys is mega yeh. There
- 43:05Speaker 2: was nowhere around it. It was just like hap and
- 43:07Speaker 2: I was like, oh my god, forty five degree angle.
- 43:14Speaker 8: And I just put my head down and just did it.
- 43:17Speaker 8: And I think that says a lot. I think that
- 43:19Speaker 8: the difference, the difference between you know, the girls and
- 43:26Speaker 8: the women and the men and the boys, is.
- 43:28Speaker 12: Like the ones that are just gonna put their head
- 43:31Speaker 12: down and go and and and and you know, fear
- 43:37Speaker 12: for me is a.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Motivator, not a hubilitator.
- 43:41Speaker 8: I like love, like even though when I'm in, I'm
- 43:45Speaker 8: fucking I'm scared.
- 43:47Speaker 2: When I'm in and I'm scared, and I'm like looking
- 43:49Speaker 2: around on my own, God, this sucks.
- 43:51Speaker 6: This is scary, Like I am, it gives me a
- 43:55Speaker 6: fire to go out there and get it. And uh,
- 43:59Speaker 6: And I don't think that's that's that's the same.
- 44:01Speaker 2: For I think some people literally hide behind.
- 44:04Speaker 6: Rocks, which is which I get, you know, but there
- 44:09Speaker 6: is a distinguishing element. And so the strategy that I
- 44:12Speaker 6: use is just gotta fire, like I Am going to
- 44:18Speaker 6: do it no matter what. It is painful, it's not fun.
- 44:22Speaker 6: I am, I am, I am leading from every joint
- 44:26Speaker 6: on my body, but like I'm gonna do it. That's
- 44:28Speaker 6: the strategy. Is Like, I'm not a strategy. I'm not
- 44:34Speaker 6: like you know, I honestly I don't believe that. I'm
- 44:36Speaker 6: not like a Michael Jordan at anything.
- 44:39Speaker 8: And there are people that are up there, you know,
- 44:43Speaker 8: God bless me, but I'm one of.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Those guys that just has to get out there and
- 44:47Speaker 2: fight hard, fight hard, and that's my.
- 44:49Speaker 9: St Well, when we recorded, you said that even like
- 44:53Speaker 9: in non athletic endeavors, learning to love the heart is like.
- 44:58Speaker 2: That's my strategy. Strategy.
- 45:00Speaker 6: You got to learn to love the horror and the
- 45:02Speaker 6: hurt because it hurts and then and there's horror and
- 45:05Speaker 6: trying to get to the top of any of any
- 45:09Speaker 6: industry for any reason, if your.
- 45:11Speaker 8: Dad is a ball trying to get to the top,
- 45:13Speaker 8: it doesn't matter how much money.
- 45:15Speaker 6: You have, or how much money you were born into
- 45:17Speaker 6: or whatever it is. To get to the top, you've
- 45:20Speaker 6: got to learn to learn to love.
- 45:22Speaker 8: The hurt and the horror because that's the that it
- 45:24Speaker 8: is it it's pink.
- 45:27Speaker 7: And then.
- 45:32Speaker 2: I think I'm decided about the challenge.
- 45:34Speaker 6: I really yeah, I uh of anything, just like a
- 45:39Speaker 6: personal experience. I so obviously not from America, then we
- 45:44Speaker 6: believe it or not.
- 45:45Speaker 2: This accent is from Sydney, Australia. So I remember when I.
- 45:51Speaker 6: Used to watch this, this is like completely might I
- 45:53Speaker 6: bring in America. By the way, you used to watch
- 45:56Speaker 6: American TI my brothers. All those ones are like jobs, sport,
- 46:02Speaker 6: all those kind of things where you just give rat
- 46:03Speaker 6: and sorority in every second line. So that's kind of
- 46:06Speaker 6: like up until at the age of twenty one, when
- 46:08Speaker 6: I thought America was like so you well anyway, So
- 46:12Speaker 6: I was like, I would have loved to go to that.
- 46:16Speaker 2: It sounds like that's where that so we added like loving.
- 46:20Speaker 6: American sport, and I just it was always such a
- 46:24Speaker 6: It's like I brought up on the northern beach of
- 46:26Speaker 6: the city. So the last I was pretty awesome, and
- 46:28Speaker 6: everyone's like, oding go to Australia.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Why did you come here?
- 46:30Speaker 6: It's just like I love the opportunity and you know,
- 46:34Speaker 6: in America, And so I set myself this goal to
- 46:37Speaker 6: get to America and Essentially, that's like a guess of achievement,
- 46:42Speaker 6: a long term achievement. So then what do I need
- 46:44Speaker 6: to do to get there? And I know people hear
- 46:46Speaker 6: about you think of a long term goal a short
- 46:48Speaker 6: term balance. What I did so I realized that, you know,
- 46:53Speaker 6: I was a strength conditioning coach at the time, and
- 46:55Speaker 6: I loved what I did, but I really loved cooking
- 46:57Speaker 6: and what the impact of cooking did. And so after
- 47:01Speaker 6: I created a couple of hook books and I've got
- 47:03Speaker 6: my profiles to my passion. And that's another thing. Your
- 47:05Speaker 6: passion doesn't lie. You can have ten follows Instagram verse
- 47:10Speaker 6: ten followers know how passionate you, Why not grow more
- 47:12Speaker 6: than the person He's the passionate with a million files
- 47:14Speaker 6: and Instagram and guarantee.
- 47:16Speaker 2: That passion doesn't lie.
- 47:17Speaker 6: So what every industry you're in, if you live with
- 47:19Speaker 6: your heart like your passion, honesty.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Is the most important thing.
- 47:22Speaker 6: Like hearing churn Out talk about how he loves that,
- 47:26Speaker 6: how of the reason why he does?
- 47:28Speaker 2: That's passionate you. You're connected to that, And say the doctor.
- 47:30Speaker 6: About recovery, like we may joke about the fay gut
- 47:34Speaker 6: for plod tonight, but there's a reason why you did that.
- 47:36Speaker 6: You know, it's a passion mine. That's a reason why
- 47:39Speaker 6: you know these guys. She's here to tell people's stories.
- 47:42Speaker 6: She's passionate about that kind of hurt a few. So
- 47:45Speaker 6: there's challenges that we face in order to get there,
- 47:47Speaker 6: and I can't just look to the America and I
- 47:50Speaker 6: go a right. If I want to change the world
- 47:52Speaker 6: through food, which is exactly what I want to do,
- 47:54Speaker 6: America is the place to do it because it has
- 47:57Speaker 6: the opportunity to expend media and attention and share my
- 48:00Speaker 6: message to the reasons why I.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Can't, unfortunately do it for Australia.
- 48:03Speaker 6: So I set the goals in place in order to
- 48:06Speaker 6: do them, and then with them within themselves their own challenges.
- 48:09Speaker 2: But the reason why I love those.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Challenges and those obstacles is they're so hard to do
- 48:13Speaker 6: and they're so hard to achieve. Yeah, if you set
- 48:16Speaker 6: yourself the day, every single day, and you set yourself
- 48:18Speaker 6: the long term vision to get up and do that
- 48:20Speaker 6: with a little thing in between, then you can get
- 48:24Speaker 6: there with your passion.
- 48:25Speaker 2: I really believe that. So now I'm seeing beside these
- 48:28Speaker 2: guys and it's the baby and telling you that like
- 48:31Speaker 2: a challenge is what excites me.
- 48:33Speaker 6: So doing a math on making my bed every morning
- 48:36Speaker 6: is the first thing. All those kinds of things like
- 48:39Speaker 6: how big or small, I would just say, like when
- 48:41Speaker 6: it comes to like the moments, if you seeing or
- 48:44Speaker 6: a goal you motivate me, is a challenge and just
- 48:48Speaker 6: always work with passion.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Absolutely. I love that.
- 48:53Speaker 7: Years ago, for whatever reason, I got locked in on
- 48:58Speaker 7: Tony Robinson and I's not I and I started applying
- 49:12Speaker 7: his stuff back then. So this was like twenty years ago,
- 49:16Speaker 7: and I learned that there was there's a couple of
- 49:19Speaker 7: principles that I think if I just say them.
- 49:21Speaker 2: It will make sense to people.
- 49:22Speaker 7: But the first thing is I had to break it
- 49:25Speaker 7: down so that I was taking action that day or
- 49:29Speaker 7: the next day, and I knew that there was something
- 49:31Speaker 7: I was going to do the next day that took
- 49:33Speaker 7: me closer to wherever I wanted to be. That's the
- 49:36Speaker 7: first thing. And then the second thing is consistency. Understanding
- 49:42Speaker 7: the importance of consistency because it's not what I do
- 49:46Speaker 7: today that's going to take me there, it's that I
- 49:50Speaker 7: do that every day, and understanding that.
- 49:53Speaker 2: One percent a day in a year, that's a lot
- 49:58Speaker 2: of change.
- 49:59Speaker 7: So For me, when I'm working towards something, I've learned
- 50:04Speaker 7: that I got to take action, whatever that action is
- 50:09Speaker 7: working out a better diet.
- 50:12Speaker 2: You know, I could use a lot of examples.
- 50:15Speaker 7: But then also understanding the principle of consistency and that
- 50:20Speaker 7: the reward will come after what I say at distillation,
- 50:25Speaker 7: it just steals on you, one little drop at a
- 50:28Speaker 7: time every day, and.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Then suddenly you are where you want to be.
- 50:31Speaker 7: I think the discouraging part is people you work out
- 50:33Speaker 7: for a week and you're like, well.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Work for a week, I've ever done this before.
- 50:39Speaker 7: But it's really the universe rewards you when you do
- 50:42Speaker 7: build consistency, and that's just part of it. And another
- 50:45Speaker 7: thing that I've learned is that on your way to
- 50:50Speaker 7: your goals, your passion is what will help you overcome
- 50:55Speaker 7: the hurdles, because, like I'm thinking of, my daughter went
- 51:03Speaker 7: through some experiences of this last like six months, three
- 51:07Speaker 7: to six months, and if you look at statistically what
- 51:10Speaker 7: she was doing despite is broke down.
- 51:12Speaker 2: What she did. Anyone would look at her at her
- 51:14Speaker 2: age and be like, she's crazy, why would you do that?
- 51:16Speaker 2: But that wasn't the point.
- 51:18Speaker 7: She wanted to get to a certain point in her
- 51:20Speaker 7: life and to be able to experience what she was
- 51:24Speaker 7: experiencing a particular day and to look around her and
- 51:27Speaker 7: realize I am where I want it to be.
- 51:31Speaker 2: She doesn't look at those things as difficult things.
- 51:34Speaker 7: So I think that's another perspective for me that I've had,
- 51:37Speaker 7: is my passion gets me past those hurdles because they're
- 51:40Speaker 7: not really hurdles. I'm driving through to get to where
- 51:42Speaker 7: I want to be, and just understanding and consistency one
- 51:45Speaker 7: percent a day. The universe always prepares you for that,
- 51:50Speaker 7: and be careful because it's not always fun. But to
- 51:55Speaker 7: have faith that whatever that challenge is is hearing me
- 52:00Speaker 7: for something that I already.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Said both I don't know if that was.
- 52:06Speaker 7: So those are That's kind of it's really strange to
- 52:09Speaker 7: have to be a little bit older now and look
- 52:12Speaker 7: back about.
- 52:13Speaker 2: And see how some of those things really do happen.
- 52:16Speaker 7: And it's not a principle that I live by, it's
- 52:19Speaker 7: in principle that I would watch hap.
- 52:21Speaker 6: I think those are really helpful.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Thank you. That was good. Thanks, yeah, because the return blood.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate that.
- 52:35Speaker 4: What I would love just to chat about really quick
- 52:38Speaker 4: is I mean, we're talking about hurdles or you're a
- 52:42Speaker 4: hurdlelive for someone who may be going through a hurdle
- 52:48Speaker 4: moment on their own, whatever that may entail. I know
- 52:50Speaker 4: we all talked about the different ones that that you
- 52:53Speaker 4: guys have experienced in your life. What kind of advice
- 52:58Speaker 4: would you offer that? And when the time gets horrd
- 53:01Speaker 4: like I know we've we've talked about ecing, embracing the horror.
- 53:06Speaker 4: But aside form just accepting that it's gonna suck for
- 53:08Speaker 4: a little while, how else do you get through it?
- 53:11Speaker 2: Man? What do you do? Misstarting? Thanks up?
- 53:21Speaker 6: So when it comes to anything in life, but in
- 53:25Speaker 6: your sickness, you know your day to day you are
- 53:28Speaker 6: responsible for you.
- 53:30Speaker 2: So whether you're in a good mood, you're in.
- 53:33Speaker 6: A bad mood, it's good time, it's a bad time,
- 53:37Speaker 6: you're still responsible to the actions will take place. So
- 53:40Speaker 6: if you're at a time where it's like everything sucks,
- 53:43Speaker 6: like nothing's gone your way, you missed out an opportunity,
- 53:46Speaker 6: something happened, that's just you know, out of your hands.
- 53:51Speaker 6: As much as your mom loves you and must of
- 53:53Speaker 6: your dad may be able to help you in some ways,
- 53:55Speaker 6: you're still the one who has to go up every
- 53:57Speaker 6: day and act for you, so they can't move your
- 54:00Speaker 6: so they can't take the actions for you. They can
- 54:01Speaker 6: give you advice, we can tell you what we say.
- 54:04Speaker 6: Like you know, the challenges are hard on those.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Kinds of things. At the other day, you're always gotta
- 54:08Speaker 2: gel up and do it. So my mindset is simply,
- 54:10Speaker 2: you know it.
- 54:11Speaker 6: Sucks, take a breath, go for a walk, and then
- 54:16Speaker 6: work out how you are actually going to move forward
- 54:18Speaker 6: because at the end of the day, no one else
- 54:20Speaker 6: is going to employ you. It's simple and it's also
- 54:23Speaker 6: a bit of tough love. But all have become challenges
- 54:26Speaker 6: wrong and continue to face challenges, and you're the one
- 54:29Speaker 6: who is responsible.
- 54:30Speaker 2: For looking up the ones. That's wait, let me go.
- 54:40Speaker 13: I uh.
- 54:42Speaker 2: When I'm when I.
- 54:43Speaker 6: Caged with a hurdle, a challenge which is often I
- 54:53Speaker 6: something that I had to learn which I wasn't always
- 54:56Speaker 6: good at earlier on my life and my career, I
- 55:00Speaker 6: was asking for help because you tend to.
- 55:03Speaker 8: Think that you know, potentially asking for help in certain
- 55:09Speaker 8: circumstances makes this show sent weakness.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Or but I today my go to is ask for help.
- 55:19Speaker 2: I ask for help all the time constantly.
- 55:21Speaker 6: I'm constantly asking for help when zero ego or pride
- 55:24Speaker 6: around it at all. And and I know, ultimately, like
- 55:29Speaker 6: like man said, like you are going to have to
- 55:31Speaker 6: pull the trigger on what you're you know, what you're
- 55:34Speaker 6: faced with personally. But surrounding yourself with the support system
- 55:39Speaker 6: of people that help you sounds, ah, sounds easier than
- 55:46Speaker 6: it is if you're not actively pursuing it.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Like actually thinking about the people that you surround yourself with.
- 55:53Speaker 8: Specifically when times get tough, you could find yourself alone.
- 55:58Speaker 6: And not feeling comfortable more common and people to help you.
- 56:04Speaker 6: And so I have, you know, strategically really put together
- 56:11Speaker 6: a team of people or not put together, but have
- 56:15Speaker 6: been lucky enough and blest for people around me that
- 56:18Speaker 6: I feel confident that you know, for instance, my wife,
- 56:22Speaker 6: you know, my when I'm.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Dealing with a machine.
- 56:25Speaker 6: Unfortunately here's the most of it, but you know, I'm
- 56:28Speaker 6: confident and feel feel strength for my wife turning around
- 56:33Speaker 6: my baby.
- 56:34Speaker 2: I am struggle. Help, Please just say something to help
- 56:39Speaker 2: me out. And my wife is like right there to
- 56:41Speaker 2: help me. And I know that, and sometimes she's like,
- 56:44Speaker 2: oh may I'm glad and then I got somebody else
- 56:47Speaker 2: to call.
- 56:47Speaker 8: But you know, I know, but I know for a
- 56:51Speaker 8: fact that you know, if you don't ask for help
- 56:53Speaker 8: and you feel like you've got this, chances are you're
- 56:57Speaker 8: You're not. You're not getting other people's perspectives on what's
- 57:00Speaker 8: going on, and getting fresh eyes and green eyes on
- 57:03Speaker 8: the situation.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Only makes it better unless it has to do with
- 57:08Speaker 2: like naming your kid and you tell your mother in
- 57:11Speaker 2: law don't do that.
- 57:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel like asking for help when it's drug
- 57:19Speaker 6: on is And the last thing I'll say is, you
- 57:22Speaker 6: know people say I used to hear or hear you know.
- 57:27Speaker 8: It's hard to change the spots on the ords that
- 57:29Speaker 8: but people don't change. Really, I'm I'm a living example
- 57:33Speaker 8: of that not being the case. I know for certain
- 57:37Speaker 8: that you can completely want eighty your life. Absolutely for sure.
- 57:43Speaker 8: I am as I am a living, standing, breathing example
- 57:46Speaker 8: of someone who's changed their like one hundred degrees.
- 57:50Speaker 2: I am not the same person I was some years ago.
- 57:54Speaker 2: And that was because I made a decision to.
- 57:56Speaker 6: Do something and I promise, I promise them, and and
- 58:00Speaker 6: I have favorite confidence that it's a real friend about it.
- 58:03Speaker 6: I'm not a miracle, I'm not a I'm not I'm
- 58:06Speaker 6: not meek. You know, it's it's the determination and decisions
- 58:10Speaker 6: to say yes, I am going to do this, and
- 58:12Speaker 6: then you actually do it, you know.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Walk the Wall just a son of and said that
- 58:23Speaker 2: he had the team say he was like Captain America.
- 58:33Speaker 2: I'm just thinking that you have that team walking Batman. Yeah,
- 58:42Speaker 2: I got a Batman.
- 58:43Speaker 6: He's going to be.
- 58:47Speaker 2: Mine.
- 58:47Speaker 7: Are along the same lines. It was funny because as
- 58:49Speaker 7: you were talking, I was thinking the same thing. I've
- 58:52Speaker 7: been blessed in my life to be able to have
- 58:55Speaker 7: really amazing people around me. And and I again, I
- 59:01Speaker 7: feel like this plug for Tony Robbins, but here's a noo.
- 59:04Speaker 7: I was listening and I remember Stilling teaching the concept
- 59:07Speaker 7: that whenever you bet you're going through someone.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Else to's been through that before, just open your mouth
- 59:14Speaker 2: and just start talking and asking some people.
- 59:16Speaker 7: So for me, challenges are inevitable, and without challenges, none
- 59:22Speaker 7: of us would be where we are.
- 59:24Speaker 2: And it's I think it's just your way of navigating
- 59:27Speaker 2: through those.
- 59:28Speaker 7: And my way has been being blessed and surrounded by
- 59:31Speaker 7: people that have good, sincere desires for me, whether that's family,
- 59:36Speaker 7: members of the people that I work with every day.
- 59:40Speaker 7: And then just plow it through it, like you said,
- 59:42Speaker 7: I mean, at some point it does kind of land
- 59:45Speaker 7: on you. No matter how much advice you get, you
- 59:48Speaker 7: still have to pick it up and move yourself. So
- 59:51Speaker 7: those are those are some of the things that makes
- 59:54Speaker 7: sense to me. But the biggest one, the biggest relief is.
- 59:58Speaker 2: To be able to have someone that I truy so
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: that I can go to and there's always a lesson.
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: I think there's a lesson and I think you know
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: your grandpa in some points say is that there's a
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: lesson in there somewhere.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: It really is true. I guess they would have to
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: say that. So those are those are things.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: All right, we're winding down the first of the final
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: two questions.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Comparson, what is one habit or thing you've started doing
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: in the past year or so that has made.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: A dramatic impact on your life.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Going forward. I'll give you a son. Although I kind
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: of think I've prepared you with this question, all right,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: I didn't study I think the one. There's there's aspects
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: of I'm thinking of, like diet, health to my psyche.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: I've tried to be a little bit more consistent with my.
- 1:01:11Speaker 13: Personal time, which is very little when I do get it,
- 1:01:15Speaker 13: I try to reach out and have relationships with people
- 1:01:19Speaker 13: that are close to me, my kids, family members of
- 1:01:21Speaker 13: people that I work with them.
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: Ironically, all those people are people I respect them, love
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: and walk around me anyway, I think taking I wish
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: that I could practice this more often. But I also
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: I am trying to apply just a few moments in
- 1:01:41Speaker 7: a day where I can just kind of bread for
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: a second, and I get advised to do that. People
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: are happy quite often. But that's that's that's probably something
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: that I've realized sometimes is frustrating for me, sitting on
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: an airplane.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Wi Fi doesn't work, sockets don't work. I wish there was.
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: Something more profound, but it's it's really just trying to
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: implement and be consistent in whatever those things are.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Reaching out, love one, making sure that I have a
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: healthy surrounding.
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: And.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: I think, okay, so very similar.
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: Aware of my time as things have occurred this year,
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: so I now have in the afternoon what's called dance
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: thinking time.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: It's fantastic.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: So during this period of time, Maddie, my content manage
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: contend in the calendar.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: The time it's the time I get out of my notebook, and.
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I used to.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I used to do this on a computer, and I
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: realized running on a notebook is much more efficient for me.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: It's probably time. Yeah, so I had that time to
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: myself and I really have the time to then write
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: me down.
- 1:03:11Speaker 13: I used to on.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Computer, as I said, but when I used to look
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: in computer.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: Things to pop up or I'd lose my train of
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: thought with everything going on. When I sit down this rather,
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: I know things that I want to work on on
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: new ideas.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Or anything like that. That's been super effective touch before
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: died as well, Like I used to. One thing used
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: to do when I traveled was I used to rush
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: around trying to get ingredients and everything as best as
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: I could.
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: And I've been to some places this year. I've been
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: a cube this year, which did exactly have it's got.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: Actually it's actually better food than I've thought. But intriciously
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: I take the athletic greats like them as well. So
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: that's a big change for me because I know him
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: David about my immune systems. So for me, it's those
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: two things that really changed my life in terms of
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: new habits.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: Theragon, you know, I think uh Thera is one of them.
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: Which I'm excited about. I'm excited about that thing.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: I'm just gonna want to stop and go therapu. I
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: feel really bad, Rundown. I'm sorry. Okay, you know, but
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: but I, I, uh. The two things aside from the
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: theragonut one is I really I in the last year,
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: I really incorporated meditations in my life.
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: And and I'm not going to stay here and tell
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: you that I meditate every day twice a day, twenty
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: minutes and then, but I will say that it is
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: top of mind, and I try to meditate as much
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: as I haven't given the opportunity to do it. And
- 1:04:52Speaker 6: I know that the cop out and bullshit, and I'm
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: just counter ating exactly what I've been saying this whole time.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: I want to do something, do it, so I should
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: never say more because I know.
- 1:05:04Speaker 14: That's But another thing that I that I've been doing,
- 1:05:10Speaker 14: which is actually been really it's given me a real
- 1:05:14Speaker 14: peace of mind.
- 1:05:16Speaker 8: I I just started to look into my health and
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: I and you know, I started feeling some symptoms of
- 1:05:24Speaker 8: like weird symptoms, being withergic and and not feeling awesome
- 1:05:28Speaker 8: and and and I have.
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: Now come to find out that a lot of it
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: is is stress related based on my job and and
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: all the things that go around with that. But I
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: went to a place called Parsley Health, and Parsley Health
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: is a functional medicine sort of company business where where
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: it's it's a lot of young, functional, forward thinking doctors
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: and then do all sorts of blood work and you
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: really just sort of take the temperature on your overall
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: body health and you know, they they were able to
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: tell me a lot of things about myself that I
- 1:06:05Speaker 6: just didn't know, uh, and it gave me some real
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: perspective on ways in which I can continue staying with
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: that and also potentially like think about.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Avoiding certain things and you know, they can they do
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: all this.
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: Blood work, and so that was something that I did
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: within the last year that really was like I felt.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: I felt really I was. I was. I was a
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: little nervous going into it because I just was like, oh,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: my gosh, they tell me how you X Y s.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: But but ultimately it wasn't like that.
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: You know, they told me all sort of great things
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: that that are going to help me with my health
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: and honess for years and years to come. So I
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: would recommend that if anybody feels like they want to
- 1:06:50Speaker 6: look deeper into their health. You know.
- 1:06:52Speaker 8: I think that that's that's something that a lot of
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: people are doing these days, right, just trying to look
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: deeper into help.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: So, yeah, I'll driving real quick.
- 1:07:02Speaker 9: I think in the last specifically, like in the last
- 1:07:05Speaker 9: six months, I've been really trying to reframe the way
- 1:07:08Speaker 9: that I talk to myself.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: I think that it's really easy to be like we are.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: All our own worst like biggest critics, Like nothing is perfect,
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: nothing's perfect, everything's wrong.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: I could have done this better, I put have done
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: that differently, whatever the case may be.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: But especially lately, I think about the things that I'm
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: taking on and I try to like take a step
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: back instead of being hyper critical about how something is going,
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: I am appreciative that anything's.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Going at all.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: And I think that and just like just being nicer,
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: Like I feel like sometimes I was like my own
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: mean girl, and that doesn't help me.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Like I've got to be on my own, got to
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: be my own biggest fans to do.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Anything right, right, So I think that's that's something that I've.
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: Yeah, So one one other thing that I that I
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: that I didn't mention that like that I've been doing
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: in the last year, which has been insanely helpful for
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: me and also difficult. But I've been paying attention to
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: my patterns, and I think we talked about this on
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: your podcast, And what I.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Mean by that is, if I find myself in a
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: similar situation with a similar groups group of people.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: On a consistent basis, and it doesn't make me feel good,
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: there's probably something.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: That I'm doing to promote them, and so that there.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: Is a pattern there that I'm stuck in, and if
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: I don't like detect it, I can end up stuck
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: in that pattern like a handspill.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Running on a wheel forever.
- 1:08:44Speaker 8: If I don't actually if I'm like, oh my god,
- 1:08:46Speaker 8: that's not that person's fault, that's not this situation.
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: This is me.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: This is me in a situation that I put.
- 1:08:53Speaker 8: Myself in consistently, so I pay attention to the I've
- 1:08:58Speaker 8: been trying my best to pay attention to those patterns
- 1:09:01Speaker 8: because sometimes even though we feel bad in those places, strangely.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: More like it and end up there in it. It's
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: like a weird thing.
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: And so I've been paying attention to it and trying
- 1:09:13Speaker 8: to understand and sort of unravel and peel the onion
- 1:09:18Speaker 8: back on some of these things, situations that I've that
- 1:09:22Speaker 8: I've found myself in consistently, so paying attention to my
- 1:09:25Speaker 8: patent to get.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: This is the last question. I did it, crept you
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: done done.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: We've talked a little bit about social media. My rounded
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: out question for all of you is, say, for some
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: reason or another, you decided you were going to delete
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: your Instagram tomorrow and tonight.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: For the whole world to see. Whether you have ten.
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: Really passionate followers or a million followers, you get to
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: leave them with like one last message.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Maybe it's a mantra. Maybe it's like a couple of sentences.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Hopefully it's like not.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: Like a ten minutes be only you're about to give me.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: But what is it? What is it that you would
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: want to leave for that?
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: And I'll talk a little bit about what line would be,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: because I know.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: You're all like steing now and kind of feel some
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: kind away that I wouldn't wreck you for this. So
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: mine growing up my family mantra has always been do good.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: And I always tell myself that if I had like one.
- 1:10:42Speaker 11: Last thing, I mean not that I think about like
- 1:10:44Speaker 11: leaving one last thing all the time, but if I
- 1:10:47Speaker 11: was just to say something to everyone like it's just
- 1:10:51Speaker 11: like do good in the essence that it's like do
- 1:10:53Speaker 11: good for people.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: Like do good every day, Like if all you can
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: is do good and that's your best and that's good enough.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: So for me, like that is when I try to live.
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: By those words every single day to the to the
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: fullest capacity that I can.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: You look excited about this question after.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Church, I feel it.
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: Yes, So when you ask me that I asked us
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: that I could one of these really think of I
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: think impulsively.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: I had something come in my mind. So if it
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: was the last thing I think about message and why
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: we do things purpose and I want I want the.
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: Last thing on my Instagram be a shot out of
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: my family, myself, my young friend because to me, it's like.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: It justifies to me why who gross in this world?
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: People that really show who me are, but also leave
- 1:11:49Speaker 6: a message of people going what is truly special?
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Now, Like as much as my mission is to change
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: the world through who like my family is like it
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: really is, so you know.
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: Having that message up there isn't isn't just to showcase
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: you know how much I love them, but it's also
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: to sit for.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Everyone else's see to not not you know, call that parents.
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: That life just because they forgot Like really, I think
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: that's something else I'm just learned last couple of years,
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: is you know, you don't want to regret not being
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: able to call you them and like.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: The fact that you, oh, you know, I'm too busy
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: for this and too busy with that. These are people
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: who brought me into this world and part of who
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: you are in a shape by that.
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: And so if I in how many years, unfortunately what
- 1:12:39Speaker 6: it's going to happen that my parents passed away.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I don't want to look back and go I couldn't
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: called him more.
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: And so you know, seeing the people in that photo
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: to me just it allows everyone else to see that
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: going I shouldn't.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: Not be I guess that's what I love. Everyone else
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: said minute turned out I was gonna say, that's awesome.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Oh right. You know what's funny when you've gone with
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: on your on your you know what the camera is like,
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: it's going slow up. It's pretty cool. Right, creative thought
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: that was slow, but it's actually just thought it was
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: to frame right and Instagram. It's a special little thing
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: we did to it. Yeah, we had that it was.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: It was we made sure that when the camera was on, Yeah.
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: When you're talking about something, yeah, oh man, what would
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: I say?
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: The last thing? I mean, that family stuffs so hit
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: me and the same thing that just hit me writing
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: the jets. You know, it's like that is so it
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: is so real for me, the family stuff, it's so important,
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: you know. I I think, I think I'll say because
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: I'm not one of these I'm not one of these.
- 1:14:19Speaker 8: Dudes that like writes something on not saying there's anything
- 1:14:25Speaker 8: wrong with it. But I don't write like inspirational.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: Quotes on social media typically, and I do it once
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: in a while when something really hits me in the
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: in the job.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: And I was I was listening to a book this
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: weekend on my run about.
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: Navy Seal and and maybe Seal said something in the
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: book that said it was something along the lines that.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: Weakness makes makes us real. And I was like, like,
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: weakness makes us real, And then.
- 1:15:00Speaker 8: I started to think about it, you know, and weakness
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: makes us real. Acknowledgement of our weaknesses makes us strong.
- 1:15:10Speaker 8: And then I followed it up with only the strong
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: survived time to get real, and I feel like weakness is.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Is strength.
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: Our weaknesses allow us to actually develop as to get
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: stronger than conspuriture.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: And you know, my family is my I would I
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: would I would burn it in a badsket today a
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: second just like that no qualms. You know, my family
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: is my number one priority, absolutely and and but but
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: the weakness thing is is also like it's just like
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: when I was when I.
- 1:15:52Speaker 8: Listened to that on my run, I literally almost went
- 1:15:54Speaker 8: to tears because it's just like, smack.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Me right in my chest. It's like, weakness is so.
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: Power because it gets us in our most vulnerable, but
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: it also gives us motivation to be almost.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: To be almost motivated.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: So you know, I feel I guess, like I vote
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: it on Inscidram today, that that weakness, weakness is it
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: makes us real instract and and and acknowledgment of othernesses
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: make us strong because I think that that's that's.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: That's it.
- 1:16:34Speaker 7: When you started and I was smiling, I had a
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: thought and I was like, I wonder where that's gonna go.
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: And the minute you started talking, it just confirmed it.
- 1:16:44Speaker 7: So life is really interesting and I think the reality
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: of it is what's fascinating. I'm not gonna make this
- 1:16:56Speaker 7: super bummer, but it's gonna be filed for a second.
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: A couple of weeks of my my younger brother, just
- 1:17:02Speaker 7: younger than myself, passed away to my best friend and
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: I you're shook by that. It's it was it's I
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: think a friend of his said to me that things
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: like this happen, they're supposed to be it because it
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: makes you start to think.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: So my message would be different now.
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: I was laughing because I thought, Man, if you'd asked
- 1:17:24Speaker 7: me this two weeks ago, I probably would have said
- 1:17:25Speaker 7: take care of the body. But now it's more just
- 1:17:30Speaker 7: love bigger, and so if I think the that just
- 1:17:36Speaker 7: trickles off around and everything, you know, just through passion
- 1:17:39Speaker 7: and being able to share.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: That big all right, So that would be my message.
