- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, its.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Drinking myself to certain foods. Like recently, the one thing
- 0:33Speaker 2: I found out that doesn't really upset my stomach before
- 0:35Speaker 2: my surgery was chicken nuggets, like the like the frozen
- 0:38Speaker 2: chicken nuggets you can get from AGIV of course, and
- 0:41Speaker 2: of course as an adult, I just have to I got.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Of course, if you don't, what are you doing with
- 0:48Speaker 1: your life?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Like why? Why? Why just get regular chicken nuggets? Why?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I mean, there's those Texas Nuggies, but I don't know,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm not really filling in the Texas spirit.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I want dig If you don't get Dion Nuggies, I
- 1:01Speaker 1: I judge you adults, like I'm sorry, no, I don't.
- 1:06Speaker 2: As also, you should make this like this discussion of
- 1:10Speaker 2: like you just have to eat Dinal nuggies.
- 1:12Speaker 3: The introduction for the episode.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Like different, Like there's literally no difference between like Texas
- 1:20Speaker 2: shaped nuggets, traditional shape chicken nuggets or Dino Nuggets. There's
- 1:24Speaker 2: no difference, right, Maybe the bread might have like different
- 1:27Speaker 2: seasoning and their breading or whatever, but they're literally all
- 1:30Speaker 2: generally generally speaking, they're the same thing.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, literally, but Dino Nuggies are the best, period, And
- 1:38Speaker 1: I will fight you period otherwise, all right, period.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Now, if you want to be like extra and buy
- 1:44Speaker 2: those like big old like chicken patties, you know I
- 1:48Speaker 2: love those two, just eat and just eat them like
- 1:51Speaker 2: that or just make it so or even as they're
- 1:52Speaker 2: supposed to be as like a chicken sandwich. All right,
- 1:55Speaker 2: then hey, you do you. But if we're talking about nuggets,
- 2:00Speaker 2: chicken nuggets and.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You gotta go the of course, or if you take
- 2:04Speaker 1: those chicken patties and make white people parmesan chick chicken
- 2:08Speaker 1: parmesan white people, it's actually good. It's not bad.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Slap, it's not terrible.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah it's not. Yeah, it's not terrible. It slaps, it's
- 2:21Speaker 1: not let's not call it.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Hold on, let's not call it white people chicken farm
- 2:26Speaker 2: because like I've done that and I'm not mixed.
- 2:30Speaker 1: But there's also half white, so you're still white.
- 2:34Speaker 3: But you got that electra cinnamon in there, so you
- 2:36Speaker 3: can't really.
- 2:39Speaker 1: That means you just see you just put other sp
- 2:41Speaker 1: you put spices in your in your spaghetti. I don't
- 2:44Speaker 1: know spicy spaghetti, are you not?
- 2:48Speaker 3: You don't.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't make my spaghetti spicy, but I know I
- 2:54Speaker 1: know people do. And it and it tastes fine, but
- 2:57Speaker 1: I don't.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Well, I mean, when I used to make spaghetti, I
- 3:00Speaker 2: would just put like I was just really like relying
- 3:03Speaker 2: on the sausage that I would use the because like
- 3:07Speaker 2: I would get the uh, what's.
- 3:10Speaker 3: That one brand? There's this brand that's that's sold everywhere.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's like the sausage and they have like medium, like mild, medium,
- 3:16Speaker 2: and hot.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I would always buy the hot ones.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But the hot ones aren't even spicy, sayings spicy.
- 3:24Speaker 1: White people who don't see some ship.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Well, I welcome to book watchers, where check about ten words.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I do not.
- 3:38Speaker 3: But Devin does have that one little stray hair.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Leave him alone. His name is Gary.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Because of course, because of course it is.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You had to name that one little stray strand of
- 3:51Speaker 2: hair that just like grows straight up out of your
- 3:52Speaker 2: bald head. And after a gay hornless unicorn from a TJ.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Clue novel, Oh.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Ship, I just read myself. I just read myself dog
- 4:03Speaker 1: realizing oh shit, oh shit, I just read myself. Fuck.

- 4:28Speaker 2: So as you can see, I am now in a
- 4:30Speaker 2: new I had moved. I'm in a new house, and
- 4:33Speaker 2: I uh set up the.

- 4:41Speaker 1: though I have fabulous posters of them. Yeah Amy you

- 4:56Speaker 3: I got others like over there I have I have.
- 5:00Speaker 1: The lovely painting done by Brandy right there in place.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I will always I'll always have his painting. I almost
- 5:09Speaker 1: left it. I almost left at the apartment. I'm like, no,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I gotta take it with me.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I feel bad. I have I have hers by haven't
- 5:18Speaker 3: hung them up? Okay?
- 5:21Speaker 1: Well, I like, I mean, I just do it because
- 5:24Speaker 1: it's it's tradition. Now I've had on my wall for
- 5:26Speaker 1: so long at the apartment. Then here and I'm like,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I have to have it here otherwise what am I doing?
- 5:33Speaker 3: So what are you doing? What are you doing?
- 5:36Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, I'm I think that every
- 5:39Speaker 1: day I will I wake up and I'm like, what
- 5:42Speaker 1: am I doing? Why am I? Why am I here?
- 5:46Speaker 1: As I smoke a cigarette. I don't smoke, but if
- 5:53Speaker 1: I did, but if I did, I get Oh no, no, no,
- 5:55Speaker 1: here's what I do? Oh ship, where's it? My apple pencil?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Oh my god? I just sit the coffee Like no,
- 6:06Speaker 2: I don't drink tea. I sit the coffee.
- 6:12Speaker 1: But uh anyway, yeah, welcome back. Hi, I'm Devin. And
- 6:15Speaker 1: then of course the other guy over there is beautiful sunning.
- 6:18Speaker 1: He's Linda. He's Linda Angelisa. He's a model j Linda Evangelisa.
- 6:25Speaker 1: You don't know who that is. God, he's not that gay.
- 6:27Speaker 1: He's not gonna know who that is. I know who
- 6:29Speaker 1: that is. But I'm way gayer than he is. And
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm not even fully gay. I'm bisexual. Bisexual.
- 6:38Speaker 3: You're bisexual, but you are a.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Baggot, m bag it for life.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So since we're finally coming back to book book Watchers,
- 6:50Speaker 2: Like honestly, we were supposed to record for book Watchers
- 6:52Speaker 2: multiple times, but you know, we kept push him back
- 6:56Speaker 2: and other show.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And other shit happened.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So we finally like like we almost pushed this episode
- 7:02Speaker 2: back because over here, okay.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I wasn't ready. Okay, I thought I was, I was
- 7:06Speaker 1: gonna be and then today came and I'm like, I'm sure, Jake,
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'll be ready. It's fine. And I didn't. I should
- 7:11Speaker 1: have told you earlier, like, hey, we're doing yours right,
- 7:14Speaker 1: that didn't and I'm like, I haven't sat down and
- 7:18Speaker 1: done my notes for mine. Uhh.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I hadn't either, So like I literally spent the last
- 7:24Speaker 2: hour getting like everything together, like and by everything, using
- 7:28Speaker 2: Cat to summarize.
- 7:29Speaker 3: The book for me, Like, hey, God, do what you
- 7:31Speaker 3: gotta do, right, you got it? It's last minute.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I didn't want to push this episode back again because
- 7:36Speaker 2: we keep doing that then, like, are we ever going
- 7:38Speaker 2: to come back.
- 7:38Speaker 1: To this exactly? Yeah, because we're procrastinators.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I am too.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Like anyway, so we're starting we're starting back off with
- 7:55Speaker 2: book Watchers for our Halloween series. So time this recording,
- 8:01Speaker 2: it's September, but we are a couple of weeks away
- 8:03Speaker 2: from from October. So we thought we'd go ahead and
- 8:07Speaker 2: start by a review, start off book Watches again, kick
- 8:10Speaker 2: off book Watches again by reviewing several horror novels for
- 8:13Speaker 2: the for this month, we were gonna do one for Devin.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Devin was gonna record one first.
- 8:21Speaker 1: It is called Hold On we have.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Okay, so we do have a list of books that
- 8:29Speaker 2: we are putting together for for October, and we keep
- 8:34Speaker 2: forgetting like, wait, we got this one, this one, Wait
- 8:37Speaker 2: what are the other two?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Because we're gonna be doing like four or five total.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Okay, Bibi are you?
- 8:48Speaker 4: Where are you?
- 8:49Speaker 3: Where are you?
- 8:49Speaker 1: A babel? Oh my god, I can't think of the
- 8:53Speaker 1: name bibly like book it's like book five. It's like
- 8:59Speaker 1: the word for like book file, biblio file, biblio file, yes, bibliophile, no,
- 9:08Speaker 1: biblio Bibliomania. That is the that's the that's the story
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm going to do next week is Bibliomania. It's a
- 9:15Speaker 1: one shot manga that's really fucking good. But it's called Bibliomania.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You're not supposed to do that today.
- 9:24Speaker 5: But I got im not I did, and then I
- 9:31Speaker 5: got lazy, and then I'm like, oh bed, and then
- 9:33Speaker 5: we'll up going oh.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Well, oh well, So anyway, we decided to push up
- 9:42Speaker 3: my book.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So this so a few months back, I had I was,
- 9:48Speaker 2: I was peruising through Barnes and Noble and really cringing
- 9:51Speaker 2: at how overpriced hardcover books are nowadays, Like you do
- 9:55Speaker 2: uh huh, and as I was searching and walking through
- 9:59Speaker 2: the the like there's really tiny horror uh like horror
- 10:04Speaker 2: book section, I came across one book by a guy
- 10:08Speaker 2: named Richard Thomas, and that book is called Incarnates.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Look at this, let's take a look at that. Yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I saw. I saw the book.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I just saw it by the spine first pulled it out,
- 10:21Speaker 2: casually saw this cover and I was just like, oh
- 10:25Speaker 2: oh my, oh okay, and I turned I flipped it over,
- 10:29Speaker 2: read the summary on the back and I was like like, oh, oh,
- 10:35Speaker 2: that's that's a sick he loves he loves his creature features.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I really do. I love creature features.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I love books, movies, games, anything to do with like
- 10:47Speaker 2: weird monsters. Like like there there's like a certain category,
- 10:52Speaker 2: a certain niche that like that certain genre that uh
- 10:57Speaker 2: type of creatures that I that I really love fall into,
- 11:01Speaker 2: like folk horror creatures like Windy goes uh the Yotan
- 11:07Speaker 2: from the Ritual, Like I still need to read the
- 11:09Speaker 2: actual Ritual book because the Netflix movie was based off
- 11:14Speaker 2: a book, and there are so many others, like The
- 11:18Speaker 2: Relic by Preston and Child because there was a really
- 11:22Speaker 2: cool creature in that one, like not me looking over here, like,
- 11:26Speaker 2: of course I love Kaiju novels, like right here, this
- 11:30Speaker 2: is my my tiny Kaiju section right here, like these
- 11:35Speaker 2: like four or five books are all Kaiju novels, like literally.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Blockalyps, Machine, Project, Legion, and Unity.
- 11:44Speaker 2: These are all by the same author, and they're about
- 11:46Speaker 2: Kaiju giant like giant monsters.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Uh.
- 11:49Speaker 2: And then of course I also have Kaiju Preservation Society
- 11:53Speaker 2: by John Skalzi.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Because of course, because of course, of course, all right,
- 12:00Speaker 3: so yes, it's suffice to say I love.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Movies with weird creatures giant monsters, and I just love
- 12:07Speaker 2: watching Devin like silently argue with his boyfriend, bitch.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I will get up from the sea. I'll fight you.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Now he's starting, he's trying to eat Jacob. What I'm
- 12:20Speaker 1: talking to Jacob and I'm talking to you, won't get up.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And he's trying to unplug my ship and I'm like,
- 12:28Speaker 1: don't do that, don't do that, don't plug it. I'll
- 12:29Speaker 1: kill you. Can I help you, mister man? Mm hmm,
- 12:38Speaker 1: speak up. I love you.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So while they're arguing, I'm trying to think, do I
- 12:49Speaker 2: have any other Kaiju novels?
- 12:52Speaker 3: Oh?
- 12:52Speaker 1: You see, I'm crazy okay, and ye for.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Some collection of Godzilla comics and graphic novels.
- 12:59Speaker 6: Mm hm.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And of course you can't go wrong with.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Lovecraft people, all right, Like you know how they sell
- 13:09Speaker 2: different like books filled with like like Lovecrafts stories. Yeah, well,
- 13:16Speaker 2: the one story I had the had the hardest time
- 13:19Speaker 2: finding was the at the Mountains of Madness and that
- 13:25Speaker 2: was the one story I really wanted to read by Lovecraft,
- 13:27Speaker 2: and I finally found.
- 13:28Speaker 3: It in this book.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And yeah, it's so this one does have at the
- 13:33Speaker 2: Mountains of Madness and it also has other classics like
- 13:36Speaker 2: called Cuthulhu.
- 13:37Speaker 3: But the thing is is that I have.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Two different Lovecraft great horror tales like books filled with
- 13:43Speaker 2: his horrors, and it's just like I just wanted that.
- 13:45Speaker 3: One with with the Mountains at the Mountains of Madness,
- 13:49Speaker 3: and that book was lit, that.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Story was Yes, it is lit. I mean I have
- 13:53Speaker 1: like two or three different editions of Lovecraft's worked is
- 13:57Speaker 1: You're not alone. Of course, I also have manga adaptations
- 14:00Speaker 1: of the stories, because there's somebody, some Japanese manga artist
- 14:04Speaker 1: ares that's been doing all of the stories in manga form,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and I'm like, give me.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Give me one.
- 14:12Speaker 1: It all I mean, anyway, a whore for lovecraft, a
- 14:16Speaker 1: horror for the cosmic horror.
- 14:21Speaker 3: You were reading. You started off by reading cosmic or
- 14:25Speaker 3: now you're just a cosmic.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Or period period.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Or however that jingle goes. But anyway, so now.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You could yeah, anyway, So going back to the story
- 14:45Speaker 2: hands today we are going to be reviewing Incarnates by
- 14:49Speaker 2: Richard Thomas.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Get zoom, get it close up with that. Look at
- 14:53Speaker 3: that the cover is what sold it for me.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It's like a spider abomination.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yes, So just to give you guys a little background
- 15:04Speaker 2: about this story, it follows a this is the story
- 15:08Speaker 2: takes It's like an Arctic horror. So it takes place,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and I believe it takes place some place in like
- 15:16Speaker 2: rural Alaska or some parts of Canada, like northern Canada.
- 15:21Speaker 2: So it's gonna be set in like a very in
- 15:23Speaker 2: a frozen like small village on I believe it's on
- 15:26Speaker 2: an in reservation. And it follows the main character, Sebastian
- 15:32Speaker 2: Pana and Sebastian is what you would call a sin eater.
- 15:39Speaker 3: So a sin eater is.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Kind of like a something similar to like an exorcist
- 15:45Speaker 2: or like a witch doctor or some kind or like
- 15:47Speaker 2: some sort of site of some sort of medium that
- 15:51Speaker 2: basically works to cleanse, like help cleanse and exercise demons.
- 15:57Speaker 2: But his specific role isn't just like like expelling evil
- 16:03Speaker 2: spirits from the world. His primary first purpose is to
- 16:08Speaker 2: help absolve people of their sins, and he does that
- 16:11Speaker 2: by quite literally eating their sins.
- 16:15Speaker 3: So Sebastian being a sin.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Eater is able to what basically his role in his
- 16:20Speaker 2: community is to consume, is to absolve people their sins
- 16:24Speaker 2: when they die, all right, So when a person dies,
- 16:28Speaker 2: right then they're into it, belief like their spirits are
- 16:30Speaker 2: still like still linger for some time, right, And in
- 16:34Speaker 2: some cases they can either get trapped here because they're
- 16:36Speaker 2: weighed down by their regrets, their sins or things like that,
- 16:40Speaker 2: things that they had like like unfinished business. Right, And
- 16:46Speaker 2: his role as a sin eater is to absolve that
- 16:49Speaker 2: deceased person sins so that way they can enter the
- 16:53Speaker 2: afterlife with like a clear conscience and without anything holding
- 16:56Speaker 2: them back.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:58Speaker 2: But the process of consuming sin is actually rather unpleasant,
- 17:04Speaker 2: especially for him, because the thing is, first of all,
- 17:08Speaker 2: in order for him to eat their sin, they have
- 17:11Speaker 2: to have already been They've had to have already have died.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So so whenever people in his community passed away, their
- 17:19Speaker 2: family members would send would send for him. He lives
- 17:25Speaker 2: typically lives on the outskirts of his He lives on
- 17:27Speaker 2: the outskirts of his village, and most people regard him
- 17:31Speaker 2: with suspicion and fear because they know the people in
- 17:35Speaker 2: his community know what he does and while they may
- 17:38Speaker 2: not like wants him to be there as like as
- 17:42Speaker 2: part of their community, like really take.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Measures to include him.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Whenever there's a death, they quickly bring we'll call him
- 17:51Speaker 2: to perform like the last, like the last rites, and
- 17:56Speaker 2: that is by eating the sin of the deceased of
- 17:59Speaker 2: the deceased. Now, the process itself is kind of gross
- 18:04Speaker 2: because it's kind of it's interesting, but it's.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Also kind of gross because.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He literally so what what the family members of the
- 18:14Speaker 2: deceased would do, or what Sebastian would do, is he
- 18:18Speaker 2: would eat food within the general vicinity of the person
- 18:23Speaker 2: who died. Right, So usually family members will make food
- 18:28Speaker 2: that was the deceased person's favorite foods. They would make
- 18:31Speaker 2: like dishes of the deceased person's favorite food and they
- 18:34Speaker 2: would give it to Sebastian and he would have to
- 18:36Speaker 2: eat it right then in there. The thing is though,
- 18:39Speaker 2: depending on the person. So if this person was just
- 18:45Speaker 2: like it was like a like an average person who
- 18:47Speaker 2: had an average amount of sin, the food that he
- 18:51Speaker 2: eats may come out with like a slight bitter taste
- 18:54Speaker 2: or some kind of like may like the food will
- 18:57Speaker 2: to him taste off and so it's tasting like normal
- 19:01Speaker 2: delicious food. It would he would notice that the texture
- 19:03Speaker 2: and taste will shift. It may come off as more
- 19:08Speaker 2: like just off, like you know, food that's been left
- 19:10Speaker 2: out too long, even though it just was freshly made,
- 19:13Speaker 2: or slightly bitter.
- 19:16Speaker 3: It will become slightly bitter or sour. But if a
- 19:19Speaker 3: person is.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Like a real like just a real piece of work,
- 19:23Speaker 2: like the worst person you.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Can think of. If somebody who is like I feel like,
- 19:27Speaker 3: let's say, like he.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Was eating the sins of somebody who was like a
- 19:34Speaker 2: child abuser or like a wife beater or just a
- 19:38Speaker 2: just total asshole, like their life has been their life
- 19:41Speaker 2: has just been filled with sin. The You could put
- 19:45Speaker 2: like a fresh bake cupcake in front of Sebastian, but
- 19:48Speaker 2: when he eats it, it's gonna taste like shit.
- 19:52Speaker 3: It's like he's eating. To him, it tastes like it
- 19:54Speaker 3: he's consuming raw.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Sewage because as because when he's eating the food, the
- 20:03Speaker 2: food is like acting like a physical medium or like
- 20:07Speaker 2: a conduit.
- 20:07Speaker 3: For which the sin is u is consumed through.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And when he consumes the sin, right, it basically it
- 20:17Speaker 2: basically absolves the spirit, the spirit of the decease, of
- 20:22Speaker 2: all of the regrets and sins and allows them to
- 20:24Speaker 2: move on without any regrets, without anything holding them back,
- 20:28Speaker 2: and they can move on to the next, to the
- 20:30Speaker 2: next life.
- 20:31Speaker 3: But the thing is.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He's not just eating the sin, okay, he is also
- 20:37Speaker 2: giving birth to a physical manifestation of the sin as well.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So after he consumes the sins of the decease, it
- 20:47Speaker 2: triggers a reaction in his body that causes a that
- 20:54Speaker 2: causes him to basically regurgitate the sin. Right, And when
- 21:00Speaker 2: this happens, that whatever he regurgitates because it becomes a
- 21:10Speaker 2: horrific creature.
- 21:13Speaker 3: That yeah, it's it's wild. It is wild. It's wild.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Let me.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Like taking a book, taking a page of that. Dude's fade, like, yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 2: it's wild. Came here, like my phone is like way
- 21:29Speaker 2: over there.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I have no control over the zoom punk.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Like, this isn't just some weird like creature that just
- 21:40Speaker 2: came crawling out of some abyss or like it just
- 21:46Speaker 2: like crawled through like some terror in reality.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Now there is a terror in reality.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's like near where he lives, there is a tear
- 21:54Speaker 2: leading into another dimension and there are creatures from that
- 21:57Speaker 2: dimension coming through, like demons. Right, well, Sebastian, what he
- 22:01Speaker 2: would do is he would consume the sins of really
- 22:03Speaker 2: bad people, and he would regurgitate the sin, and it
- 22:07Speaker 2: would take the form of these really nasty looking creatures. Now,
- 22:12Speaker 2: if somebody had like very mild, like, didn't have really
- 22:14Speaker 2: much sin at all, the creature that gets that he
- 22:17Speaker 2: ends up vomiting up would either be pretty small or
- 22:21Speaker 2: not really not really fierce. They may look even it
- 22:26Speaker 2: may look like a normal.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Creature like Sebastian. He was helping a local inoit boy
- 22:32Speaker 3: name kylk hold On. Let me see that's his name.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Right, Devined. This part up where consulting my notes. Yes,
- 22:46Speaker 4: Klek or Colic. Sorry, it's an innuate name. I'm not
- 22:49Speaker 4: sure if I'm pronouncing that right. Please don't come for me.
- 22:52Speaker 2: But so, he was helping a local Innoit boy name
- 22:56Speaker 2: Kaylk Bury his dog as his dog just passed away,
- 23:00Speaker 2: and uh, Sbashin learns that Kaylok actually has has the
- 23:06Speaker 2: same gift as him. And the thing about eating sin
- 23:09Speaker 2: is that it takes a really it really affects your
- 23:13Speaker 2: body negatively. So the more he does it, the more
- 23:18Speaker 2: his body begins to break down. So Sebastian is just
- 23:22Speaker 2: is a man in his late thirties, but he looks
- 23:23Speaker 2: like he's a man in his like sixties.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Who I guess I mean that sin would really fuck
- 23:31Speaker 1: up your body.
- 23:32Speaker 6: Mm hmm.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 2: So when uh, when Kalyok's dog, old dog passes away,
- 23:39Speaker 2: Sebastian and both Sebastian and Kaylok, he's like he shows
- 23:44Speaker 2: kind of shows Kaylok like how the process works.
- 23:47Speaker 3: He eats like a little bit of.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Food and because the dog was just a dog, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 2: very pure, right. The creature that's that he ends up
- 23:55Speaker 2: for gurgitating like it's just like a little butterfly or
- 23:58Speaker 2: like a little bird, right, And the bird looks doesn't
- 24:01Speaker 2: look like any normal bird that you would find on Earth.
- 24:04Speaker 2: It was very pretty and it's like white, and.
- 24:07Speaker 3: And it was very small and it flew off into
- 24:09Speaker 3: the wilderness.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So that's like, that's like on the good that's like
- 24:13Speaker 2: on the like, that's like one of the least uh
- 24:18Speaker 2: disturbing creatures that it gets earth from his from sin
- 24:23Speaker 2: eating this fucking spider is one of the worst.
- 24:28Speaker 3: You see.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Now I have to hide the I have to like
- 24:31Speaker 2: hide this book whenever my boyfriend Alex comes around because
- 24:36Speaker 2: he has a rackmophobia. And like when I first bought
- 24:40Speaker 2: this book, I was like, this book looks gnarly.
- 24:42Speaker 3: But at the same time, I'm like, oh, he can't
- 24:44Speaker 3: see this.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Nope, he will not like it, certainly will not.
- 24:50Speaker 2: No, So just to give you so just to go through,
- 24:54Speaker 2: like more of the synopsis of the story.
- 24:56Speaker 3: It follows Sebastian.
- 24:57Speaker 2: As he is performing his role in his village as
- 25:01Speaker 2: a thin eater. Some of the creatures that he ends
- 25:04Speaker 2: up giving that he ends.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Up regurgitating.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Ranged from like something as as mild as that little
- 25:12Speaker 2: bird that is that is born from the from the
- 25:16Speaker 2: spirit of the dog. And then there was there was
- 25:19Speaker 2: another relatively mild creature.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Uh, it was like he he.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Was tricked into eating the sins of one of his
- 25:32Speaker 2: best friend's mother. Because the thing is is that because
- 25:36Speaker 2: of how much of a fiscal toll takes on him.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He only he tries really hard to like kind of
- 25:42Speaker 2: pick and choose and like set the stage for the
- 25:44Speaker 2: sin eating ceremony, so like he does. So if you
- 25:48Speaker 2: were to suddenly just like surprise him with thin eating
- 25:51Speaker 2: or like force him into doing it, it can like
- 25:53Speaker 2: have really adverse effect on him because he has to
- 25:55Speaker 2: really prepare and since like he knows he's reaching the
- 25:59Speaker 2: end of his life because years of sin eating have
- 26:01Speaker 2: just taken its toll, he has to really pick and choose.
- 26:05Speaker 3: So he had a friend, he had a close.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Friend who understands the situation and would often like comfort him, give.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Him a place where he like, and like basically opened
- 26:17Speaker 3: up her.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Home to him, so that way he'd have a place
- 26:19Speaker 2: where he doesn't have to worry about his role as
- 26:23Speaker 2: a sin eator and he could just you know.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Relax and take comfort.
- 26:27Speaker 2: The thing is, though her mother died, and she knew
- 26:32Speaker 2: that her mother wasn't really the best the best person,
- 26:37Speaker 2: like her mother was probably was probably like was the
- 26:40Speaker 2: impression I got about her mother was she was a
- 26:42Speaker 2: piece of shit and she like she was no saint.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Uh, his mom her. So he comes over for a visit,
- 26:56Speaker 3: and she doesn't tell him.
- 26:57Speaker 2: She doesn't tell Sebastian that he that her mother died
- 27:00Speaker 2: and that her mother's corpse was still in the area,
- 27:02Speaker 2: meaning that her spirit was still there. And she gave
- 27:06Speaker 2: Sebastian some of her homemade chili, which is.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Also something one of her mother's favorite foods.
- 27:11Speaker 2: And so Smashan, thinking like, all right, cool, I'm about
- 27:14Speaker 2: to have a really great meal, right, starts eating the
- 27:16Speaker 2: chili and immediately notices the taste is off, and he
- 27:19Speaker 2: looks at her.
- 27:20Speaker 3: And he's like, what have you done?
- 27:21Speaker 2: And she spills the beans that I'm sorry, my mother
- 27:24Speaker 2: died and I know, like you needed time to prepare,
- 27:27Speaker 2: but she's been dead for a while and you and
- 27:29Speaker 2: because of like the art, the conditions of their of
- 27:32Speaker 2: their village, the Arctic condition, like people can't really leave
- 27:35Speaker 2: their houses and this was like one of the few
- 27:37Speaker 2: times that they were able to do that, and uh
- 27:42Speaker 2: so she set it up so that way he can
- 27:45Speaker 2: like cleanse cleanse her mother's spirits so she could move on.
- 27:49Speaker 2: And he felt very betrayed, betrayed because this was one
- 27:52Speaker 2: of his like one of the few friends he had
- 27:54Speaker 2: and that she then she would just do do him
- 27:56Speaker 2: dirty like that.
- 27:57Speaker 3: That's fucked up.
- 27:59Speaker 2: So and the thing about eating is that once you start,
- 28:01Speaker 2: you can't stop. So he had no choice but to
- 28:04Speaker 2: finish the bowl of chili. And as he's eating it,
- 28:07Speaker 2: like it's the chili, which is like usually very great,
- 28:11Speaker 2: like it was his favorite food, like the best thing
- 28:13Speaker 2: he would ever eat, paste it off. So by the
- 28:18Speaker 2: end of it, by the end of it, he finishes it,
- 28:20Speaker 2: and he's already beginning to feel like the sin is
- 28:23Speaker 2: about to be born, right, is about to be yea, yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 2: and she's his friend, is like trying is trying to
- 28:32Speaker 2: be apologetic, like I'm so sorry, Like she's been dead
- 28:35Speaker 2: for a while, and this is like I didn't want
- 28:37Speaker 2: her to He's like her spirits to be stuck here
- 28:40Speaker 2: or like move on to the next life without.
- 28:43Speaker 3: You know, releasing her being released from her sins.
- 28:46Speaker 2: And he's basically like he doesn't really say it out right,
- 28:49Speaker 2: but like he's he The impression you get.
- 28:52Speaker 3: From this is like, yeah, go fuck yourself, and he
- 28:54Speaker 3: leaves man, he barely.
- 28:57Speaker 2: The thing is is that whenever he consumes sin, he
- 28:59Speaker 2: tries to make it back to either set it up
- 29:01Speaker 2: to where he consumes the sin, and like in or around.
- 29:05Speaker 3: His home, because not far from his home.
- 29:07Speaker 2: There is a terror in reality and this ear like
- 29:11Speaker 2: he uh when he was a lot younger, he would
- 29:13Speaker 2: actually travel around and look for other tears like the
- 29:16Speaker 2: one that's in his village, and he would consume sins,
- 29:19Speaker 2: and when he would regurgitate the creature the sin, he
- 29:25Speaker 2: would send those creatures.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Through the rift to close it.
- 29:29Speaker 2: So every time he would send the more of the
- 29:32Speaker 2: sin creatures that he would give birth to that he
- 29:35Speaker 2: would send through the rift, the faster the rift would
- 29:37Speaker 2: close because the rift once they open, creature, these horrific
- 29:41Speaker 2: creatures from the other side would come.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Through and they would cause a lot they would rack havoc.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Like several times in the book, while Sebastian is like
- 29:49Speaker 2: patrolling Gary around the rift, he comes across some of
- 29:53Speaker 2: these creatures, like he came across a like a whind
- 29:56Speaker 2: digo like creature, big as like big ass horns cloven
- 29:59Speaker 2: who right. And then at another time he actually comes
- 30:03Speaker 2: across a massive spider like creature not like not like
- 30:08Speaker 2: the one that he that he actually gets breath to
- 30:10Speaker 2: later we'll get to that one in a minute, but
- 30:13Speaker 2: he finds that these creatures aren't able to survive in
- 30:16Speaker 2: this uh, in this world for very long, especially because
- 30:19Speaker 2: they're in arctic conditions and this clear these creatures are
- 30:22Speaker 2: more suited for like tropical, like warmer climates.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So they come through, they skitter around the area. Since
- 30:28Speaker 3: it's very.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Remote, there's not much damage they can do, so they
- 30:33Speaker 2: just like come through, maybe do some small damage, and
- 30:37Speaker 2: then die because of the freezing condition.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 2: So but he's terrified that eventually one's going to come
- 30:43Speaker 2: through that'll be able to survive, so he's trying his
- 30:47Speaker 2: best to keep the area clear and work to like
- 30:51Speaker 2: send enough of the sin of his sin creatures into
- 30:55Speaker 2: the roup.
- 30:56Speaker 3: To close it.
- 30:59Speaker 2: The thing is his best friend's mother. She was no
- 31:02Speaker 2: saint but this but her sins were not like that bad.
- 31:05Speaker 2: So the creature that she that he ends up regurgitating
- 31:09Speaker 2: is just like a weird looking snake. And the thing
- 31:12Speaker 2: is the snake was too small. It was no bigger
- 31:14Speaker 2: than a regular like puff adder or a biper. I
- 31:17Speaker 2: forgot like what exactly it looked like like it looked like,
- 31:20Speaker 2: but it had.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Like spikes going down its back.
- 31:23Speaker 2: It was black with really bright red eyes and when
- 31:27Speaker 2: he when he when he spits it out, the snake
- 31:31Speaker 2: like slithers off into the wilderness, and he was too
- 31:35Speaker 2: far from.
- 31:35Speaker 3: The rift to send it through, and he was like, yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 3: it's not no big.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Deal because the snake is too small to really do
- 31:41Speaker 2: any like be effective against combat seeing whatever is coming
- 31:45Speaker 2: through the rift. The thing is, later on, he is
- 31:50Speaker 2: called to the house of another of one of his
- 31:52Speaker 2: neighbors and he is asked to consume the sins of
- 31:57Speaker 2: this neighbor's deceased wife. The thing is, these neighbors are
- 32:00Speaker 2: wide are widely known for being problematic by the community.
- 32:06Speaker 3: So they were.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Drug addicts, alcoholics, They were very contentious with each other,
- 32:11Speaker 2: and they're.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Like and the community. So they were real pieces of work.
- 32:17Speaker 3: The husband was often.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Very skeptical and very like he was openly like opposed
- 32:25Speaker 2: to Sebastian in his work, like he's like, I don't
- 32:28Speaker 2: believe in that shit, Like you know, you're full of it.
- 32:30Speaker 2: You're just literally like you're just you're just taking advantage
- 32:33Speaker 2: of these people and they're in their grief. But then
- 32:36Speaker 2: his wife dies and suddenly he's faced with like, well
- 32:39Speaker 2: what if he isn't like what if like what if
- 32:43Speaker 2: he isn't lying, Like what if what he's doing is
- 32:45Speaker 2: actually helping people.
- 32:46Speaker 3: So we called Sebastian.
- 32:48Speaker 2: And the thing is, Sebastian had to be quick because
- 32:50Speaker 2: they were entering a time of the winter.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Where like it was gonna everything was gonna get snowed in.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Nobody would be able to like get get out, no
- 33:00Speaker 2: one would really be able to leave their homes.
- 33:02Speaker 3: So Sebastian had to work quick. He went, he went
- 33:05Speaker 3: to his neighbor's.
- 33:06Speaker 2: House, and his neighbor made like a cupcake, and this
- 33:13Speaker 2: cupcake was like one of the few things that his
- 33:14Speaker 2: wife's loved, that his wife loved in life, and so
- 33:19Speaker 2: Sebastian ends up eating the cupcake. The thing is, Sebastian
- 33:23Speaker 2: was all was still kind, was still somewhat recovering from
- 33:26Speaker 2: the last time he ate that he consumed sin, and
- 33:31Speaker 2: he this is where it really hit him that oh
- 33:34Speaker 2: my god, my like, I can't keep doing this. And
- 33:38Speaker 2: Sebastian was actually going to begin making plans to pass
- 33:42Speaker 2: on his ability to Kaylic because Kaylek has a similar ability.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So he knows that the role of sin eater will
- 33:49Speaker 2: need to be passed on like and soon So he
- 33:54Speaker 2: eats the sin of his neighbor's wife.
- 33:56Speaker 3: And he immediately knows that this sin.
- 33:59Speaker 2: This wife, the sin of the wife is horrific. It's like,
- 34:05Speaker 2: I will say this, her sins was not that bad, Okay,
- 34:10Speaker 2: Like it was way worse than the last person's mm hmm,
- 34:16Speaker 2: but it's it's not the worst sin that gets consumed
- 34:19Speaker 2: in this entire.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Book, oh okay.
- 34:23Speaker 2: So he consumes her sin and immediately has to run
- 34:27Speaker 2: back to his home to make sure that he releases
- 34:30Speaker 2: the sin near the rifts, because if he doesn't, then
- 34:33Speaker 2: the sin will.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Just run, We'll just run around in our world.
- 34:38Speaker 2: So like that's why he does it near these rifts
- 34:42Speaker 2: because one, it'll help keep the like monsters come from
- 34:45Speaker 2: coming through, but it also keep the monsters that he's
- 34:47Speaker 2: literally giving birth to from you know, being released into
- 34:51Speaker 2: the world. So he manages to make it somewhat near
- 34:55Speaker 2: the the rifts. Yeah, And he becomes violently sick, and
- 35:01Speaker 2: he begins vomiting blood and not just blood, but he
- 35:06Speaker 2: like he starts it comes he's vomiting up like chunks of.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Meat, bits of bone like and like like clumps of
- 35:15Speaker 3: fur and skin.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And the thing is this the process was so vile,
- 35:20Speaker 2: and it was so like traumatic on his body that
- 35:23Speaker 2: like he actually suffered trauma in his throat right, like
- 35:28Speaker 2: his whole body was like was like the process was
- 35:33Speaker 2: so traumatic, This process of releasing this new creature was
- 35:37Speaker 2: so traumatic that after it was done, he nearly died
- 35:41Speaker 2: and he fell into a coma, but not before he
- 35:44Speaker 2: saw what creature he gave birth to.
- 35:48Speaker 3: So essentially, this creature was.
- 35:51Speaker 2: A polar bear, a massive polar bear.
- 35:56Speaker 3: It took the form of a massive polar bear. But
- 35:58Speaker 3: the polar bear was like it was it was like
- 36:02Speaker 3: a zombie polar bear. You could see.
- 36:04Speaker 2: It was very skeletal, like it had clumps of it
- 36:06Speaker 2: of meat and fur sticking to it, and it was massive.
- 36:12Speaker 3: All right, this polar bear creature.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Like Thankfully, since he released it close to the rift,
- 36:16Speaker 2: it immediately went through the rift. But Sebastian unfortunately almost
- 36:22Speaker 2: died because since he was still out in the snow
- 36:24Speaker 2: and he was he was not he wasn't very far
- 36:27Speaker 2: from his home. But the problem is is that he
- 36:29Speaker 2: wasn't able to like make it back to his house
- 36:31Speaker 2: in time, so he passed out.
- 36:34Speaker 3: And but luckily Kaylek and his name and his old.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Friends, the one you know who betrayed him found him
- 36:39Speaker 2: and nursed him back to hell. But the thing is
- 36:42Speaker 2: is that the entire time he was recovering, he was
- 36:45Speaker 2: not able to perform his role as sin Eater, and
- 36:49Speaker 2: because the winter had come in, things were getting really
- 36:54Speaker 2: bad because people were snowed in and I will I'm
- 36:58Speaker 2: sorry I should have mentioned in this near the beginning
- 37:01Speaker 2: of the episode. But this book does also deal with
- 37:06Speaker 2: themes trauma, and not just like you know, physical, physical,
- 37:11Speaker 2: and emotional trauma, but also themes of self harm, suicide.
- 37:17Speaker 3: And even.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Not so much like sexual assault, but there is some
- 37:23Speaker 2: kind of some themes of sexual assault, not with the.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Human characters, I should say, which is kind of weird.
- 37:29Speaker 2: But like this book does, this book is like a
- 37:32Speaker 2: three parter, so it does have three parts in it
- 37:35Speaker 2: despite being a very small book. So like first part
- 37:39Speaker 2: is Sebastian's part, the third part is actually with Kalk
- 37:44Speaker 2: and showing it like a short it's just a short
- 37:47Speaker 2: section of his journey in becoming the new sin Eater.
- 37:50Speaker 2: But the second part is actually going to be censored
- 37:53Speaker 2: around a demon that's on the other side of the rifts.
- 37:58Speaker 2: But we'll get to that in just a second. So
- 38:01Speaker 2: Sebastian because he's too sick, he's too he's now too
- 38:04Speaker 2: unwell to perform his work. A lot of people are
- 38:08Speaker 2: dying because not like you know, people die in his
- 38:11Speaker 2: village and it's like there's death is in their village.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Death is very common and it's accepted because one it's
- 38:19Speaker 2: either because people die because they were stupid and got
- 38:22Speaker 2: exposed to the elements, or they die because well it's
- 38:26Speaker 2: the middle of winter. They do experience they're in the
- 38:29Speaker 2: part of the Arctic where they experience like months of
- 38:32Speaker 2: dart of just pure night. Yeah, and you know, living
- 38:36Speaker 2: in those regions, it can take a toll on people's
- 38:39Speaker 2: mental health. And in some cases some people just simply
- 38:42Speaker 2: walk out into the snow and don't come back.
- 38:46Speaker 3: So you do see a couple of that happen. So
- 38:48Speaker 3: I just want to like warn people.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Devin, if you can also put a disclaimer at the
- 38:51Speaker 2: beginning of the episode that this book has themes of
- 38:56Speaker 2: self harm, sexual assault, suicide and other or like themes
- 39:01Speaker 2: of trauma. And but I will say this is this
- 39:07Speaker 2: book was good.
- 39:07Speaker 3: I was hooked. And but going back to Sebastian at Sebastian.
- 39:14Speaker 2: The thing is Sebastian, because of how much he was
- 39:17Speaker 2: out of commission, people began were constantly sending him offerings.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Because the way people would request for him to come
- 39:25Speaker 2: and eat the sin of their dead loved ones is
- 39:28Speaker 2: they would leave offerings for him, and like, you know,
- 39:31Speaker 2: he would know who the offering is from and that
- 39:33Speaker 2: that's basically like, and he would respond to them and
- 39:36Speaker 2: set a time for when he would come and consume
- 39:39Speaker 2: the sin.
- 39:40Speaker 3: But because he wasn't able to.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Lots of people, like dozens of people from the village
- 39:44Speaker 2: were constantly bringing him offerings, and at one point there
- 39:47Speaker 2: was one like frustrated family who vandalized his house because
- 39:53Speaker 2: he just wasn't responding to them. Like I love people.
- 39:56Speaker 2: He's an old man who's recovering. He can't what is
- 40:01Speaker 2: he gonna do? But you know, that's the thing about
- 40:04Speaker 2: some people is that they're selfish and only thing about
- 40:06Speaker 2: themselves really, So for Sebastian, while he's recovering, oh oh
- 40:13Speaker 2: I'm back, okay, all.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Right, cool.
- 40:17Speaker 2: So Sebastian has to focus on recovering. And the thing
- 40:22Speaker 2: is is that finally, when the winter conditions are beginning
- 40:25Speaker 2: to settle down. He felt like he was recovered enough
- 40:29Speaker 2: to like begin like moving around and possibly prepared.
- 40:32Speaker 3: For the next like trying to like, you know.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Work on the backlog of people's sins that he needs
- 40:37Speaker 2: to consume, though in most of the cases, like it's
- 40:40Speaker 2: too it's far too late, their spirits would have already
- 40:42Speaker 2: moved on whether or not he consumed their sins or not,
- 40:46Speaker 2: so he wasn't really going to worry about that since
- 40:49Speaker 2: once he was recovered enough, he started like trying to
- 40:52Speaker 2: fix up his house, and at one point, like, this.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Is a sad part.
- 40:58Speaker 2: This, this next part is really sad because as his
- 41:00Speaker 2: own because his own community did him dirty while he
- 41:04Speaker 2: when he was when he finally came out of his
- 41:06Speaker 2: coma and started to like take care of himself, he
- 41:11Speaker 2: made himself some food.
- 41:13Speaker 3: He was in this house.
- 41:14Speaker 2: This was after he discovered that someone vandalized the outside
- 41:17Speaker 2: of his house. He got up one morning, fell well enough,
- 41:23Speaker 2: and he made himself some food. Wasn't really much, just
- 41:27Speaker 2: what he could on and what he had on Anne.
- 41:30Speaker 2: And when he started eating, he immediately noticed the horrific
- 41:34Speaker 2: taste of his food. And when he started like when
- 41:39Speaker 2: he got that first taste of just this basically pure
- 41:43Speaker 2: vile food. Having eating fresh food, he immediately gets up,
- 41:49Speaker 2: runs to his door and throws it open and looks outside,
- 41:52Speaker 2: and he sees that his front yard is filled with
- 41:56Speaker 2: the corpses of dead villagers. So basically what people from
- 42:01Speaker 2: his village had done is that they carried the bodies
- 42:04Speaker 2: of their debt, of their deceased family like pretty much
- 42:08Speaker 2: like all their corpses, and they dumped it in is lawn. Nah,
- 42:16Speaker 2: I pack up my shit, and y'all, it was too
- 42:19Speaker 2: late once you start eating. And even so, the thing
- 42:23Speaker 2: is is that he tries, despite the fact that he
- 42:25Speaker 2: tries to prepare himself for sin eating, if he eats
- 42:28Speaker 2: food within the vicinity of someone who's dead, their sin
- 42:32Speaker 2: immediately gets like like immediately gets consumed by him by
- 42:38Speaker 2: through whatever food he's eating. And once you start, he
- 42:42Speaker 2: can't stop because if he stops, the consequences are far worse.
- 42:48Speaker 2: And unfortunately for him, he knew he was doomed because
- 42:52Speaker 2: he could not stop. Because so he once he saw
- 42:57Speaker 2: the dozens of course in his in his yard, he
- 43:02Speaker 2: had he had no choice. He turned back, sat down
- 43:05Speaker 2: at his table, and this poor man like he was
- 43:08Speaker 2: so distraught, like like I was, I felt so bad
- 43:12Speaker 2: for him, like how can like how can anybody do
- 43:13Speaker 2: that to him? Like that was this act was so selfish,
- 43:19Speaker 2: like what they did was so selfish and fucked up,
- 43:22Speaker 2: like they like everyone knew that he had gotten, that
- 43:26Speaker 2: he had gotten hurt and he was recovering. But no,
- 43:30Speaker 2: they were so terrified of their of their deceased loved
- 43:34Speaker 2: ones being stuck in like being stuck on this world
- 43:39Speaker 2: and not being able to cross over, that they just
- 43:43Speaker 2: dumped their bodies in his and his property. And I'm like, well, listen,
- 43:47Speaker 2: let me tell you something. If you're if your deceased
- 43:50Speaker 2: loved ones or anything like you people, they probably deserved
- 43:52Speaker 2: to be stuck on earth in the afterlife. They probably
- 43:55Speaker 2: deserved to live out the rest of eternity with their
- 43:59Speaker 2: shame to get because if they're anything like you, for
- 44:03Speaker 2: dumping their their dead bodies on another.
- 44:06Speaker 3: In another man's home, just because there will be.
- 44:10Speaker 2: A slight chance and he'd be able to absolve them
- 44:12Speaker 2: of their sins, you got No.
- 44:15Speaker 3: You deserve it. You deserve it.
- 44:18Speaker 2: But anyway, unfortunately they're gonna they get what they want
- 44:23Speaker 2: because Sebastian has no choice but to continue eating the
- 44:26Speaker 2: sins finishes. He has to finish his meal down to
- 44:31Speaker 2: the very last fight, and he does, and it was
- 44:34Speaker 2: horrible the entire way. It tasted like ashes, It tasted
- 44:37Speaker 2: like sewage, rotted sour like.
- 44:40Speaker 3: The most the foul that it was basically like eating
- 44:43Speaker 3: a rotten corpse. That's gross, yep.
- 44:47Speaker 2: And unfortunately he does not survive what happens next because
- 44:52Speaker 2: he begins the sins like because he consumes basically all
- 44:57Speaker 2: of the sins of these corpses, at least deceased people,
- 45:04Speaker 2: their combined sin gives birth to the second most horrific
- 45:10Speaker 2: creature in the book.
- 45:12Speaker 3: And that's what.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Comes out of everyone's sins together.
- 45:18Speaker 3: That's gross, yep.
- 45:21Speaker 2: So basically what happens is is that when he begins
- 45:24Speaker 2: to vomit up the creature, what he begins vomiting up
- 45:27Speaker 2: is like a stream of smaller spiders mixed in with
- 45:32Speaker 2: blood and.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Silk and other shit.
- 45:36Speaker 2: And the thing is, though, the sin itself, because of
- 45:39Speaker 2: how much because of all the combined sin together create
- 45:43Speaker 2: like it pull us into this mass of sin that
- 45:48Speaker 2: might begin to grow while it was still inside his body.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Because usually what happens when he when he consumes the
- 45:53Speaker 2: sins of one person, he's able to vomit it out,
- 45:56Speaker 2: and whatever vomits out it will, like the crap that
- 45:59Speaker 2: he's out will like coal us and like form itself.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Into the creature. Right, But because of how.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Much sin he it consumes, he wasn't able to purge
- 46:09Speaker 2: it from his body fast enough and it formed inside
- 46:12Speaker 2: of him. Ew So the spider creature the big Mama,
- 46:18Speaker 2: not the small ones that came crawling out when he
- 46:21Speaker 2: started vomiting him up.
- 46:22Speaker 3: It tried to like.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Crawl its way, like pull its way out of his throat,
- 46:28Speaker 2: but it became so big that it started cutting itself
- 46:31Speaker 2: out of his body.
- 46:33Speaker 3: So it literally bursts out of his stomach like hr
- 46:38Speaker 3: like Ridley Scott's style.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we're talking full on like Xenomorph's style, chest bursting action.
- 46:48Speaker 2: This gigantic spider creature violently ripped itself out of his
- 46:53Speaker 2: body grew into this huge like like this, Like looking
- 46:58Speaker 2: at the cover of this book, Devin, if you look
- 47:00Speaker 2: up the if you could like look up the cover
- 47:02Speaker 2: of this book and put it onto the podcast, like
- 47:06Speaker 2: you can see you can see this thing has not
- 47:09Speaker 2: just eight the standard eight legs of a spider. This
- 47:13Speaker 2: has hundreds of legs, like dozens of legs, and the
- 47:18Speaker 2: way they look, they look like like individual bones like femurs,
- 47:22Speaker 2: and like the these kind of bones that formed like
- 47:25Speaker 2: your forearm.
- 47:26Speaker 3: The forearms like stuck together and they're barely hold together
- 47:30Speaker 3: by thin lines of sinew.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Right, this big ass thing comes like violently rips itself
- 47:39Speaker 2: out of his body, and because of how massive it was,
- 47:42Speaker 2: it ends up like bursting out, like breaking through his
- 47:45Speaker 2: house and uh so it demolishes his house in the process.
- 47:49Speaker 2: And he had some lit candles in his house, so
- 47:51Speaker 2: they immediately so those get knocked over and light his house.
- 47:57Speaker 3: So he's not surviving in any way way. So the
- 48:01Speaker 3: creature like breaks free from that from his body.
- 48:05Speaker 2: And it like it completely breaks out of his house,
- 48:09Speaker 2: demolishing it and burning it down in the process. The
- 48:11Speaker 2: creature does go through the portal, but in the end,
- 48:16Speaker 2: Sebastian is dead.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Mm. It was really I was really sad, like that
- 48:21Speaker 3: was really that was. It was. It's depressing.
- 48:26Speaker 2: It's awful, and he didn't deserve that because what he
- 48:29Speaker 2: had been doing for the community, whether they trusted it
- 48:32Speaker 2: or not, he was basically giving the worst of them
- 48:36Speaker 2: a chance to have a better afterlife, a chance to
- 48:40Speaker 2: move on without being weighed down.
- 48:42Speaker 3: By the sins of their past.
- 48:44Speaker 7: By the the by.
- 48:46Speaker 2: That stain that was left on their soul from like
- 48:52Speaker 2: all the bad things that they had done.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So he takes on their sin. What does that mean
- 48:58Speaker 1: when he goes, he's stuck on earth or damned, So it's.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Not really like he's not like actually permanently taking their
- 49:09Speaker 2: sins into himself, like he consumes their sin, absolving the
- 49:13Speaker 2: spirit of their sin.
- 49:14Speaker 3: But then he immediately that.
- 49:18Speaker 1: The creature that forms gotcha, duh duh oh.
- 49:26Speaker 3: I know.
- 49:26Speaker 2: So I was thinking like, oh, this sounds like a
- 49:28Speaker 2: good like like Appalachian thist. This is kind of like
- 49:32Speaker 2: I know, this is like more like Annoit arcticre but
- 49:34Speaker 2: it kind of has that that Appalachian vibe too because
- 49:37Speaker 2: they're in like a mountains area, so there are mountains,
- 49:40Speaker 2: like a mountain region somewhere in like Alaska.
- 49:44Speaker 1: And adding adding that to my adding that next to
- 49:47Speaker 1: the tapeworm fay parasite, ape worm fay parasite. Yeah, we
- 49:54Speaker 1: were reviewing, uh, the Eptiser last night and I was like,
- 49:58Speaker 1: and we were talking, I'm like, wait a minute, this
- 50:01Speaker 1: is giving me an idea for a parasitic tapeworm that
- 50:05Speaker 1: eats magic.
- 50:08Speaker 3: But it's where where did you watch that movie on? Right?
- 50:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's on shutter It's it's I'm gonna watch it.
- 50:14Speaker 1: It's it's gnarly.
- 50:17Speaker 3: The tape.
- 50:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch the tape worm It's it's good. It's
- 50:20Speaker 1: a it's a three point five out of five. It's
- 50:23Speaker 1: it's not bad. It's worth it's worth one watch. Feel
- 50:27Speaker 1: bad for her though, goddamn.
- 50:31Speaker 8: Anyways, yeah, anyway, So that so his death is Smashion's
- 50:39Speaker 8: death is the end of part one.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Okay, real quick, going back, what is the name of
- 50:44Speaker 3: the movie?
- 50:46Speaker 1: Ugly Stepsister?
- 50:49Speaker 3: Ugly Stepsister? Oh my god, there's a bunch of new
- 50:52Speaker 3: movies on shutter I gotta watch.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I'm planning on doing that, like doing like a thirty
- 50:55Speaker 2: day of hell Yeah, horror watch New Yeah, trying to
- 51:01Speaker 2: watch a new horror movie every day. But that's I'm
- 51:04Speaker 2: not gonna start doing that until October first, all right.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Getting back to the story.
- 51:10Speaker 2: So the next part of this story is kind of like,
- 51:17Speaker 2: so this is actually gonna be from the perspective of
- 51:19Speaker 2: a demon that lives on the other side of the Rift.
- 51:23Speaker 2: So the rift opens up into like an alternate Earth
- 51:26Speaker 2: style world. So there's no people, there's no civilization, but
- 51:30Speaker 2: the creatures that live there, they're horrific, demon like creatures.
- 51:34Speaker 2: But they're really not like demons in the traditional sense,
- 51:37Speaker 2: like they're intelligent. Their deal they're deal makers, they can
- 51:41Speaker 2: steal your soul kind of deal.
- 51:42Speaker 3: They're more like.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Just monsters, like kind of like monster hunter style creatures,
- 51:46Speaker 2: where like the world is filled with these different kinds
- 51:49Speaker 2: of creatures. Some yeah, do have weird abilities, but they
- 51:54Speaker 2: are for the most part, basically like alien animals. They're
- 51:59Speaker 2: vicious and there they're vicious, the horrific, and they'll kill
- 52:04Speaker 2: everything in their path, but they're almost they're more like
- 52:08Speaker 2: they're more like animals really. So this so this part
- 52:12Speaker 2: of the story follows a I guess we could call
- 52:15Speaker 2: it like a demon mother style creature. So it's life,
- 52:21Speaker 2: It follows its life as it navigates its hellish world.
- 52:25Speaker 2: And the thing about this creature is that it's actually intelligent.
- 52:28Speaker 2: It does have like human level intelligence, yet at the
- 52:31Speaker 2: same time it being like a monster, it's not able
- 52:34Speaker 2: to actually like communicate or really articulate like a human. Right,
- 52:39Speaker 2: So it does recognize like certain things, Like it does
- 52:42Speaker 2: recognize that the world it exists in is dying because
- 52:45Speaker 2: it's it's like a barren it has to.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Navigate through like a barren landscape. Like the creature itself
- 52:51Speaker 3: was born in like a desert region. But it does
- 52:53Speaker 3: navigate itself.
- 52:54Speaker 2: It does migrate like to like a forested more jungle
- 52:58Speaker 2: like region, and it's constantly trying to like protect itself
- 53:02Speaker 2: and survive from like other horrific creatures. And the thing
- 53:07Speaker 2: is about this particular monster is that it's a mother
- 53:13Speaker 2: type monster because it Uh.
- 53:23Speaker 3: Oh, that's interesting.
- 53:25Speaker 2: No, discord is like turnout and reactions use hand gestures
- 53:28Speaker 2: to send reactions during a video fall.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Oh that's I think that's that new.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Uh, that's cool.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I think that's actually part of the new iPhone update,
- 53:36Speaker 2: the iOS twenty six. Yeah, with the glass with the
- 53:41Speaker 2: liquid Uh, it's like liquid display.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Now that's cool instead of the old one.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see open control center, tap video effects and
- 53:51Speaker 2: tap reactions.
- 53:56Speaker 3: Where's control center? I'll fuck with later.
- 54:02Speaker 2: So but uh so, this creature, it doesn't really have
- 54:10Speaker 2: a name, but it does have some like as you're
- 54:12Speaker 2: going through this section of the book, you realize that
- 54:14Speaker 2: it has.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Like some form of human level of intelligence, and.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Near the end of it, it's it's heavily implied that
- 54:24Speaker 2: this monster was once human and that when it was
- 54:30Speaker 2: born it had it somehow recalls like memories of a
- 54:36Speaker 2: human of its human life, but it doesn't really recognize
- 54:38Speaker 2: like what that is or what happened. And as it's
- 54:41Speaker 2: navigating through its hellish world, it of course, like it
- 54:45Speaker 2: does encounter, like the creatures of its of a similar
- 54:49Speaker 2: species that it is. It does, like you know, mate
- 54:53Speaker 2: and give birth to children. But then also like as
- 54:56Speaker 2: it navigates, it also does like end up mating with
- 55:00Speaker 2: other creatures and gives birth to other creatures of like
- 55:04Speaker 2: either looking kind of like either being more like these
- 55:07Speaker 2: other The creatures it gives birth to lean more towards
- 55:10Speaker 2: like will either leading more toward the father's species or
- 55:14Speaker 2: its own, or sometimes come out completely different. And this
- 55:18Speaker 2: is where the themes of sexual assault kind of weirdly
- 55:22Speaker 2: come into play, because some in some cases, like it
- 55:25Speaker 2: gets impregnated like violently, but like the thing is is
- 55:31Speaker 2: like it's a monster, so I'm just not really like
- 55:34Speaker 2: it's like a demon monster, so I'm not really sure.
- 55:36Speaker 3: How I feel like how to feel about it, because.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Like I'm not saying, like like sexual assault is like
- 55:45Speaker 2: sexual assault is sexual assault regardless, but like that that's
- 55:48Speaker 2: that'sn't the.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Section that I'm like, I'm not sure how I feel
- 55:51Speaker 3: about this.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Because eventually, eventually, this this demon mother does come across
- 56:03Speaker 2: the rift and it takes up residence. It makes it
- 56:07Speaker 2: decides to like make the area around the rift its territory,
- 56:13Speaker 2: and it does somewhat explore the other side of the rift,
- 56:19Speaker 2: like it does explore a couple of times. And the
- 56:22Speaker 2: thing is, though it doesn't it's not able to stay
- 56:24Speaker 2: because of how cold it is, and it's not able
- 56:26Speaker 2: to survive there. So the demon Mother would just like
- 56:30Speaker 2: come back through the rift and just stay on, you know,
- 56:33Speaker 2: the its world side. But since it was staying in
- 56:37Speaker 2: that area, it was continuously mating and giving birth to
- 56:41Speaker 2: more of its children. And sometimes its children would go
- 56:44Speaker 2: through the rifts. And when they would though, it's as
- 56:47Speaker 2: it turns out, every time the Bastian would encounter like
- 56:51Speaker 2: one of those crazy creatures like that spider creature or
- 56:54Speaker 2: that wind digo like.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Creature, those were children.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Those were its children.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Yeah, And at one point, because like because of how like.
- 57:03Speaker 3: It because it has like human like intelligence.
- 57:06Speaker 2: The demon Mother actually at one point goes through and realizes, like,
- 57:09Speaker 2: wait a second, this snow, like the ice and snow
- 57:12Speaker 2: in this world is just water, right, So it actually
- 57:15Speaker 2: goes into the into our world, and like because the
- 57:20Speaker 2: rift is not that far from like a like a beat,
- 57:22Speaker 2: like the ocean like a beat. It runs down to
- 57:25Speaker 2: the beach and there's like a layer, a thick layer
- 57:27Speaker 2: of ice over the beach.
- 57:28Speaker 3: It actually like.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Jumps in the water, cuts through like a huge block
- 57:32Speaker 2: of ice and pushes it back through the rift. It
- 57:35Speaker 2: almost dies because of like how cold it is. But
- 57:38Speaker 2: when it pushes that huge like tongue of ice through
- 57:41Speaker 2: the rift, it it actually manages to.
- 57:44Speaker 3: Create like a little bit of an oasis on the
- 57:46Speaker 3: other side.
- 57:47Speaker 2: So like it attracts other creatures and it's able to
- 57:50Speaker 2: like get birth and like raise more of its young.
- 57:53Speaker 2: But at one point, when Sebastian had given birth to
- 57:57Speaker 2: that polar bear creature, when the polar bear came through,
- 58:01Speaker 2: the polar bear slaughtered her children.
- 58:07Speaker 3: And then later on it does also encounter the spider creature.
- 58:14Speaker 2: Damn yeah, and the spider creature and like does something
- 58:20Speaker 2: similar before that, but the oddly enough the spider creature
- 58:23Speaker 2: was the one that it doesn't end up doing that
- 58:26Speaker 2: much damage. It actually ends up like dying pretty quickly.
- 58:31Speaker 2: But the thing is that this like I wasn't sure
- 58:35Speaker 2: how I felt about this, because it seemed like they
- 58:36Speaker 2: were trying to build sympathy for this creature because it
- 58:42Speaker 2: does like travel trying to find like answers to how
- 58:45Speaker 2: to save its world or how to like survive better,
- 58:48Speaker 2: or like answers to like the memories, it has that
- 58:50Speaker 2: of like a human life.
- 58:51Speaker 3: And at one point, so at one point in.
- 58:54Speaker 2: The book, Sebastian does come across the body of a
- 58:57Speaker 2: woman who had walked out into this the weather, the
- 59:01Speaker 2: cold weather.
- 59:01Speaker 3: To basically take her own life.
- 59:04Speaker 2: And the thing is is that the the Demon Mother
- 59:08Speaker 2: actually encounters that same corpse when it comes.
- 59:11Speaker 3: Through, and it's there's slight.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Implication that the Demon Mother was actually that woman, the
- 59:22Speaker 2: woman who.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Kills herself, who killed herself by walking out into the cold.
- 59:26Speaker 2: Because she walks out the way she took her own life,
- 59:29Speaker 2: was she uh just basically like stripped down naked and
- 59:33Speaker 2: just walked out into the cold weather until she eventually
- 59:37Speaker 2: just pros to death, and she somehow had wandered far
- 59:39Speaker 2: enough to where she came across the rift, and then
- 59:41Speaker 2: she just like knelt She just knelt down in front
- 59:44Speaker 2: of it and died.
- 59:46Speaker 3: And then the like.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Sebastian finds the woman's corpse, and then the demon Mother
- 59:50Speaker 2: also finds the woman's corpse. And the way that Demon
- 59:53Speaker 2: Mother like looks at and regards the corpse, it's there's
- 59:56Speaker 2: a bit of an implication that she recognizes it, like.
- 59:59Speaker 1: She might have been birthed from Sebastian.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: No no, no, like when she died, like her spirit
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: when it moved on to the next life, she was
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: reborn in that hellish world, and I guess like time
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: works a lot different in that world.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Implications.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Yeah, there's there's implications there. The thing is is that
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: there's no real resolution with this.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Like it's implied that the Demon Mother was planning on
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: like coming through the rifts one at like one point
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: to like try to like take over, but eventually the
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: rift closes on its own, and so like the Demon
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Mother is on the other side, Sebastian is dead on
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: this side. And now we're back into uh, we're back
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: into part three and this is like dealing with the
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: aftermath of the aftermath of Sabashian's death and also the
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: beginning of Klik's journey into becoming the news sin eater.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: So this this scene, this section is actually a lot
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: shorter because Kaylok knows that he has a similar gift
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: to Sebastian, and in fact, when Sebastian died, he realizes
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: that his gift has gotten a lot stronger. So he
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: knows that he needs to be more careful with how
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: he operates, how he lives, because now he if he accidentally,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: if he eats food and there's somebody who died nearby,
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: he could risk giving somebody.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: Like taking on somebody's sin.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: But he notices that there's some key differences between his
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: power and Sebastian's power because like and it's not really
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: so much like the power was different, but more is
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: like their approach to it. So usually when Sebastian would
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: consume somebody's sin, he would immediately purge it from his
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: body and give birth to a horrific creature, right, But
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Kaylk noticed that when he would the few times.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: That he does it himself, he noticed it.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: He realizes that in instead of just like eating their sin,
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: like taking them like just taking their sin onto himself.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: He doesn't just like regurgitate it back out and releasing
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: a horrific sin into the world.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: He notices that he can actually purify the sin.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: So in some cases and a few of the cases
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: where he does this, he notices that the creature that
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: he ends up giving birth to, instead of being like
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: some horrific sin creature, like it's a new purified entity.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: So he realizes that he can instead of just absolving
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: people of their sin, he can actually purify them.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: He could do the opposite.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: So he's still a sin eater, but he's not going
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: to be but he has like a new approach to it.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: And the thing is, kaylk ends up getting like catching
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: the notice of a of all things, a mob boss.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: So like in his area, there is a there is
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: a family that lives on that lives in his community,
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: and they're a very rich family.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: But it's very well known. But it's it's well known.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: By everyone that the that the patriarch of that family
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: is a piece of shit.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: He is a criminal.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: He has he's clearly like he runs like an underground
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: criminal organization. But basically like the mafia, like an like
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: an Inoit mafia, but I'm not sure if they were
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: actually in it or anything. It was just more like
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: this dude, like he lives up in the mountain. He
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: lives in a mansion up the mountain, uh, not far
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: from the Inuit village, and everyone knows that he is
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: a criminal, that he has leads a criminal organization, and
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: he's had a long history of coercion, embezzlement, things like that,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: like real piece of work. The thing is, he is
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: dying of terminal cancer. And when this guy learns that
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Kaylak is now the new sin eater. He finds out
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: after he like purifies the sins of this really pleasant
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: old lady, Like she wasn't like like this old lady
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: she passed away and her I'm sorry, this is not
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: the old lady, it's her husband.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: I'm getting the earlier people confused.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: So this old lady, her husband passed away, and her
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: husband wasn't a saint, but he wasn't a bad guy either,
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: and there was a few things that.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: He had done that weren't really like the best.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: So when Kayla consumes his sin, he realizes, like, yeah,
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: this guy has a little extra spice to him. But
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: when he's about to like release the sin back in
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: the world instead of just releasing like this perfect creature,
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: that's when he.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: Releases a purified sin. So he didn't just absolve him
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: with the sin. He'd purified the sin.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: And that's when he learned that this is that's when
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: he starts realizing he can actually like do things different
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: from from Sebastian and not have to walk that same
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: path as him. But that does catch the attent of
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: the mob boss and this guy calls Kaylk.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Down to his up to his mansion, doesn't and it like.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: Calls and by like like invites him, but it's more
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: like he has his thugs kidnap him and bring him
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: up to the mansion where he has a conversation with them,
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: telling him that like, I know you're this new syny,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: like I know you're the youtub Sebastian's place, and I
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: don't have long for this world and I'd like you
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: to be on call for when the time comes, And
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Kylek is like, well I will, I'll do it, but
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: I must warn you my training with what in this
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: new role is and that was never actually completed. It
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: didn't even start, like it barely even started, Like Sebastian
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: like gave gave Kayleok a few tips and like warnings
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: about the synague process, but didn't actually get a chance
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: to go into the whole, to go into the whole
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: process of it and like teach him like the more
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: nuances and like the dangers of sin eating.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: So now Kaylek has to basically do everything on his own.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: And eventually the mobster dies and Kaylek is once again
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: called up to do uh, is called up to.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Ah to consume the guy's sin.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: And the thing is, because of how rich he is,
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: the guy's favorite meal was like a really like expensive
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: cut of steak with like all these fancy ingredients. So
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: they give they sit Kalyok down in the room with
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: his with the dude's corpse, because he like he just died.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: They kid Kaylek, have sent him down, give him like
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: a really nice fancy like steak dinner, like we're talking
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: like premium cut. I feel so bad for Kaylek because
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: when he starts eating this steak, he immediately knows that
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: this dude is terrible was probably was a terrible person. Yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: the thing is that despite Kayla now understanding that he
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: could purify people of their sins rather than just absolve them.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: He's not able to do that with this guy because
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: his sins are so horrific that when he eats a steak,
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: it's like he's eating like rotten met like rotten flash
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: burt like it's trained to ash brought and sour meat,
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: like what Sebastian had to deal with, Like what like
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: the this Sebastian had to deal with a similar thing
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: when he had when he consumed the sins of all
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: of those peat all those corpses, right.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Well, imagine all of the sins of those corporate.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Ew.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: So the thing is when when Kayla finishes eating.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: The steak, which took him forever to do because of
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: how awful this dude.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: This person was and his sins were, he does end up.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Regurgitating the sin and he's able to hit it like yeah,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: it hurts and it takes to like a toll in
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: his body, but he does it. And the creature that's born.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: It doesn't really describe what the creature was because he
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: was like in a really like kind of like in
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: a feuge state.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: But the thing is is that the the monster had
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: like his family.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Like his family was all gathered there and have room,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: and they watched him eat the sin. So when he
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: gave so he wasn't able to like leave and like
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: just release the sin. Right, So the sin itself like
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: ends up when it comes, when it finally comes out
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: and it forms itself, it ends up killing.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: Everyone in the room.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: I mean sat like Kayla was able to leave because
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: like thinking about the sins is that they had the sin.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Eators have some control over the sins when they give
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: birth to him, but it's more of like they'll just
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: do whatever and they just like point. It's more of
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: like they point, they give birth to them, point them
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: in the right direction, and like set them free, like
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna actually like hold on, does it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: Give any description what the thing is?
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: Let's see, the bones and flesh in front of me
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: have coalesced into a formless black mount, its outer surface
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: hardening into an armor that suddenly sprouts legs, an tanny
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: and chittering mandibles.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: An army of ants and beetles and cockroaches and earwigs
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: and spiders and ticks and police swarm over every surface
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: in the room, blanketing the riving bodies of Philip's family,
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Phillips is the Philip is the mob boss, and Philip's
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: family and his men, until there's nothing left but death.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: I collapse to my knees, untouched by the swarming insects,
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: terrified to release what is inside of me. But there's
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: no holding this back any longer. As my jaws stretched
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: wider than I ever thought possible, and my eyes bulge
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: the point of bursting, my body locks in a convulsive rigor,
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: and I release a torrent of white feathers into the room.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: So like he ends up like, uh so, here's the thing.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: When he consumes the sin of Philip. The spirit of
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: this mob guy, I guess was so like was so
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: violent that let me like, I'm actually gonna like look
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: at this again.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Does he get birthed to two of the two things.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: No, it's it's actually like, as he's absorbing the sin,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: it's like the spirit of the guy actually ends up
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: like killing everybody in the room because it's the reaction
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: of it.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: Because I think like, as.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Its sins are being like like absolved or being like
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: clensed from the spirit, Like the sins were so bad
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: that as they were being cleansed, they were started like
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: lashing out, so before they can.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: Actually like go through k like and be like, you know.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, they began to like lash out at everything around them.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: So it's like a case of like, oh, well, like
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: he's a sin.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: The spirit knows it was a sinner and didn't care
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: and actually enjoyed it.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: Let's see, I'm gonna hold on, I'm gonna read let me,
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: let me read this. So all right, it's perfect.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: I've never I never see the hand that drops off
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: the plate and can barely feel its absence as it
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: retreats into a hitting door toward the kitchen. I steel
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: myself and pick up the cutlery, knowing I have a
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: singular focus, and it is this meal and what lingers
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: on the other side of this new ritual. I cut
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: into the steak and it's perfectly rare brown on the sides,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: with the right with a bright red listening center marbled
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: with glorious fat.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Oh this is a damn. The steak is a must
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: be waggy.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: I take a first bite and it is ambrosia melting
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: into my taste buds. The smoke and fat, blending hands
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: of salt and spices, the butter and garlic, a satisfying
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: depth of meat, a touch of something nutty, and then
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I swallow it down. Everything changes. I choke as the
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: flesh turns rancid, something gone horribly wrong, the fat congealing
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: as I try to swallow. A metallic bloodlight tang clutches
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: in my throat, choking me as a rotten flavor of
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: sour milk and cigarette ashes.
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: Fills my mouth. This is, yeah, this is It gets
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: gross like the way it describes how like the food.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Turns like like, turns rancid as they eat it like.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: I force a swallow. Hold on, hold, I'm sorry, get
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: ahead on the bed.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: His body convulses again, more violently, the sheets starting to
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: slip off of him as a palet skin of his
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: face and torso suddenly flushes with color. I force a swallow,
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: and the hunk of meat goes down, lodging midway in
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: my esophacus. I pound my chest with my fists, gasping
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: for breath, eyes watering, wretching, barely holding back the overwhelming
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: urge of bomb, overwhelming urge to vomit, until the bite
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: slips down like a hefty stone into my stomach. An
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: intense heat radiates from his body like an engine, red
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: until it's glowing red with steam rising off of his
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: trembling corpse. But I tear my eyes away from him
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: and force my attention back to the stake. There is
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: so much left to devour, and I hesitate, momentarily, overcome
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: by the task at hand. I frantically cut up, cut
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: it up into smaller pieces, knowing each bite.
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Is going to be harder to ingest than the last.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: But I decide in the moment that I need to
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: just shovel it all into my mouth and choke it
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: down painfully, as fast as humanly possible. And so I
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: do that again and again until my lips and chin
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: are flattered in grease, it slithered in grease, tears streaming
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: down my face. I close my eyes as nauseating visions
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: of consumption, built of consumption flood my mind and make
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: my stomach churn. Gourging on blood splattered roadkills swarmed with
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: flowflies and maggots, Jackals tearing at the emaciated corpses of disease,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Cattle rotting in the weltering heat, people slashing bucket loads
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: of ulfal speces fresh from the abatoir floor, or avatar floor,
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: forcing me to keep them open and fully witness the
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: ritual before me. Moans and gasps erupt from the shadows
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: around me, And while I can't see the family, there's
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: fevered activity out of the corners of my eyes, people
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: restraining and consoling each other, feet scuffling on the hardwood floor,
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: a murmuring of prayers and curse words that is.
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Growing in volume.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: On the bed, Philip continues to shake, the incessant rattling
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: of the metal bed frame drowning out everything but the
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: sound of chewing inside my head. The last of his
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: sheets dropped to the floor, exposing the full length of
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: his spasminge cadaver for all to see. As thin lines
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: of blood revealed themselves on his translution. His translution, some
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: flesh seeping through the thin fabric of his pristine light
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: blue pajamas across his neck and face, down the length
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: of his exposed forearms and feet. I see the crimson
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: lesions spreading across his skin, like incisions from the outside,
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: from the inside out, his very body coming apart.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: At the seams.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: So let me tell you something like before I keep going.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: This has never happened with any of the other corpses.
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: Like every time Sebastian and Kayla had eaten the s
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: had consumed the sins of somebody else. Yeah, Like there's
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: no physical reaction. That's how bad, that's how evil this
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: dude was. Like his sins were so bad that when
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Uhl was consuming them and like cleansing his spirit, that
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: dude's spirit of his sins, it was literally tearing the
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: dude's body apart.
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: To continue.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: I keep eating impulsively, uncontrollably, in a frenzy of fear,
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: terror and discuss, And as a woman screams from somewhere
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: behind me, the fireplace roars to life, flames erupting across
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: the room, sending shards of burning wood exploding outward, as
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: logs crack in half, swirling sparks engulfing the entire to
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: blue of spectators, igniting small fires on the fine rugs
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: beneath their feet. For every forkful of meat, there is
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: a violent movement from the bed. For every bite I
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: shove into my mouth, there are teeth marks consume blossoming
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: on his flesh. For every tee of ransoms steak, there
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: is a crackle of his bones breaking. And with every
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: insufferable morsel. His body disconnects a little further from itself,
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: and an ivy stand crashes on the crashes to the hardwood,
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: dragging the monitor and ventilator down with it in an
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: implosion of glass and plastic, prompting a streak from the gallery.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: As someone rattles the handle of the at the exit door.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Unable to escape, I shove my head down and eat faster,
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: struggling to finish this meal. The cacophony of family rising
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: now bouts and screams from the shadows, doors slamming open
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: and shut, glass breaking, bringing a great rush of cold
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: air whirling through the suffocating heat of the room. A
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: gunshot rings out, sparking on impact with the fireplaced stones. Excuse,
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: then another shot, splintering something wooden across the room. I
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: keep cutting and biting and swallowing, moldy gelatins sliding down
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: my throat, Maggot's ripping between my teeth and the broken
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: down fibers as I force it all down my gallet
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: and on the bed, the skin of his face slothing,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: slopping off his limbs.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: Separate, separate fingers from.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: Hands, hands from arms, arms from torso, head from body
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: pulling apart under its own weight, like so much meat
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: in a slow cooked roast. His blood releasing releases onto
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: the floor in a wave of violence, in a great
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: slushing sound, like the breaking of an amnionic sack. His
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: body parts slumping to the floor, scattered across the ground,
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: his mattress soaking red with blood turning to black. I
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: chew frantically on the last taste of the seemingly endless
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: meal as the fireplace unleashes one final deluge of sparks
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: and flames, catching the cascading curtains across the room a blaze.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: More bullets fly around me. Desperate screams and howling fill
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: the room, My ears flooded with the sounds inside my
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: own mouth, while a high pitched wailing screeches through my mouth.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: I swallow, the meal is done.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: What I thought were bullets meant for me were the
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: men shooting at each other.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: In the haze of the smoke filled room.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: As the fire spreads to every combustible object and chaos
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: and folds all around me, I see his family and
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: his henchmen tearing each other apart like a pack of
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: savage dogs. Drunken with the scent of blood, dispunching air
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: being torn out by the roots, teeth gnashing and biting,
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: gun and biting on sorry, teeth snatching and biting, gunshots, screams,
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: and heavy thuds as flaming bodies collapse, wrappling each other
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: to the floor. The bones and flesh in front of
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: me have coalesced into a formless black mound, its outer
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: surface hardening into an armor that suddenly sprouts legs, antanna
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: and chittering mandibles. An army of ants and beetles and
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: cockroaches and earwads and spiders and ticks and flease swarm
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: over every surface in the room, blanketing the riffing bodies
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: of Philip's family and his men, until there is nothing
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: left but death.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: Geez, I collapse to my knee.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I collapse to my knees, untouched by the swarming insects,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: terrified to release what is.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Inside of me.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: But there's no holding this back any longer. As my jaw,
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: stressed is wider than I ever thought possible, My eyes
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: bulged to the point of bursting, my body locks in
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: a convulsive rigor, and I release a torrent of white
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: feathers into the room, so he actually does manage to
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: purify this dude, and the sin that ends up being
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: released is like.
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: A let me see.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: The only thing he ends up releasing after absolving the
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: sin was a white dove.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: A white dove.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: Yep eh. Yeah. The thing is is that like.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: He could not actually absolve Philip with all his sins,
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: but his sins have been I guess right, So says
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: here like like this is like the last couple of
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: paragraphs of the of the story, and this is after
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: like he had left, he left the mansion. Everyone in
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: the mansion is dead now because what happened. And it's
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: burning to the ground. You know, I'm frozen to the bone,
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: and yet I'm burning with heat. I'm rippling with disgust,
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: and yet coated it, yet coated in peace. He has
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: not been absolved. He has been recognized and taken. Lumbering
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: in the woods to my left is a peculiar presence,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: surrounded by glowing eyes, snorting in the darkness as it
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: stomps through the undergrowth, snow burying everything around it, and
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: as a glint of moonlight slips out from behind the
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: looming clouds, it is gone. I've kept my word, and
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: so has he what comes next. I honestly don't know.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: So it sounds like he.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Did give birth to something unless it was like like
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: it doesn't really like explain what.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Was released, but something wasn't released. Yep, it was.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Something, unless that was like, uh, yeah, so but Kaylk.
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: It's implied that Kaylek ends up leaving his community to
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: travel around, just like Sebastian did. Uh, but that was
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: This was probably one of the most grotesque books I've
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: ever read. Like the only other book that I've read
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: that can come close to like just how filthy it
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: is is how uh the Hell Down Heart the hell
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: Raiser book Held Down Heart by Clive Parker.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but like I mean, I liked it. It was
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: definitely like it was I got what I paid for,
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I still think the grossest book I ever read
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: was a wombom womb Yeah, and that's one that will
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: probably never talk about. I thought about for a minute,
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: y'all that one to talk about it, But then I
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: started thinking about my hmmm, how no, no, you want
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: to fuck up?
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Look at me, look at me, no, give me, come here,
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: believe me, let me.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: No.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that was Jacob, you told me now, you
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: told me now, and good reason, because good reason.
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: That book had themes of child the Beast.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Oh that book, yeah, that book has themes of No,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: you're talking about earthlings? Well that well, no, that one's
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: that one. That one too, that one too, but earthlings,
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: and I do want to talk about that one, and
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I still might fight for that one later, but boom, yeah,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: there's no way for that one. So yeah, now, I know, gross,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: this this book sounds like it could be a good movie.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: I think it would probably make a good movie if
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: like maybe if Shutter makes like a short movie out
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: of it or something, it would it would definitely be watch.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: Yeah. But yeah, but yeah, so that was we So this.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: Was Incarnate by Richard Thomas. So you want something different,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: because I wanted something different, all right. You know we
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: talk about which you know, there's books about witches. There's
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: books about witch doctors, shaman right, like things that we
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: see like in Hollywood all the time. If you want
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: something different, I'd definitely go with Incarnate because it does
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: have themes of like a witch doctor shaman like element,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: but instead of it like being like some dude who's
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: wearing like you know, like who's wearing reeds of bones
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: and like feathers in his hair, shaking like a rattle,
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, doing some stupid stuff like that.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: You know, we just got like a we just had
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: a regular guy who literally eats the sins of debt
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: of the dead and gives birth to crazy creatures. Like
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: the creatures that he was giving that he gave birth
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: to were insane, all right, They were recognizable in a way,
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: but yet they were subtly different and like all the
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: more just like like Ratchet, Like you know, the Spider
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: was probably the worst one.
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: Like, like it was either the spider or the polar
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: Bear for me, like the polar bear.
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: Just the way the polar it was, like just how
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: violently it gave he gave birth to it, and just
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: how vicious it looked. Yeah, it was described that one
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: was pretty wild. Yeah, and I was just thinking, my god, we.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: Got to turn this into it.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: We got to turn this into like a homebrew D
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: and D class, right sin either, Oh, that would.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Be so good.
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: It's like honestly, it's like it would probably be like
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: a neck.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: They would probably be like something like a necromancer or
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: subclass or like a like a Druid subclass.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I could see like a drew, like a
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: druid subclass, or even a cleric subclass.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: I feel like it's more of a Druid because it's
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: like nature.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: There's like a lot of themes, and they like nature
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: here and how they're trying to preserve like Sebastians trying
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: to preserve the balance.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: Of nature, especially because like the rifts that are.
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: Opening into this other world, like him using the sins
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: of bad people to keep these monsters from coming over
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: into our world to fight these monsters. That is something
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: great like that right there. That's like I feel like
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: that's more like, oh okay, somewhere between, Like I think
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: that's somewhere between like cleric and druid. Yeah, but he's
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: maintaining like that, he's maintaining maintaining a balance.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: So and it wasn't really religious either. He wasn't like
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: praying to.
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: God or like uh like in its spirits or anything
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: like that. It was just more of like, okay, well,
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: everyone has their own personal beliefs on like where they
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: go in the afterlife, so like my job is just
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: to like make it to where they can they can
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: leave with a clean conscience. You know, they can there
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: can leave, they can cross over without anything holding them back.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, m hm.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: But yeah, though, I will say there was one thing
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: I was a little disappointed about in this book was
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: that it implied that because he died, that we were
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: going to see like a massive board of these creatures.
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: Coming over from the rift, and uh, it was gonna
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: be up to Klic to.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: A fight them back, like step in and you'se hit
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: the power literal the literal power of sin to fight
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: them back. But that didn't happen, and I was a
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: little disappointed. But at the same time, I'm like, all right, well, like,
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: oh well, okay, it was still a good book. I
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: enjoyed it, Like this is the only book I've read
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: of Richard Thomas. And I will say, if you do
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: pick it up, it does have a disclaimer in the
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: front where with like, of course the copyright information like
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: this book contains highly sensitive and mature subject matters, including
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: graphic sexual content, depictions of suicide, animal abuse, and violence.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: So so you have been warned and just know that,
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: like that these themes are present in the book and
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: it's not for everyone.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: I will say that because.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: Just from what I just like read to you guys,
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: that was pretty graphic, you know, And that's not the
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: only scene like that in this book, I think, honestly,
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: I think the scene where Sebastian was forced to consume
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: the sins of all the this of all the corpses
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: that were left in.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: His yard was the worst simply because he ends up
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: dying as a result of it. And that was really fun.
- 1:28:21Speaker 7: But yeah, so uh yeah. But if you guys want
- 1:28:28Speaker 7: to check it out, they have it. This book is
- 1:28:31Speaker 7: available at Barninoble.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: You could probably find it on Kindle or on Amazon
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: if you want a hard copy.
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: I definitely say it's a good read if you want
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: something different from what from like this usual like horror
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: theme novels. And I hope you guys have enjoyed it.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: I know I enjoyed it. And just careful where you read.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Just be careful where and when you're reading it, because
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: while reading a book in public is not exactly like
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: watching like watching the movie in public.
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: Just be careful.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I mean, it's yeah, and the book sounds, it sounds.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: It's the books terrifying. I like the idea of eating
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: sin now and then birthing something.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Mm hmm the same, Like honestly, like pitch that idea
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: to James, just be like, okay, so the character who
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: literally it is like a necromancer type class, but he
- 1:29:28Speaker 2: eats the sins of the spirits of the deceased and
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: then he gives birth to a monster birth from those sins.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Might almost put that my nagin. That my nogin for
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: future for future references, along with the tape worn fair
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: tapeporn fairy.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: I gotta watch that movie now.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Yeah, because what I was because what I was thinking
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: is like, oh my god, a little fairy, like a
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: mosquito type fa going around, gets on top of you,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: sucks your blood, but implants a parasite, and that parasite
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: ends up like being like a fairy tapeworm abomination. Oh,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be crows. And I'm like, I can have
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: it eat magic and then like over time, if you
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: don't do anything about it, you will lose spell slots permanently.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Oh oh oh, it's in the Brewin. It's bruwin. It's
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: a bruin. It's not gonna be in this game. It's
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: not gonna be in the current game anyway.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: So that was, uh, that was incarnate by Bridget Thomas.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: I'm going to read it and as always, thank you
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: for watching and listening into book Watchers.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Yeah, time review the next book. I already forgot the
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: name of it.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Bibliomania, bibli Omania, Bibliomania, And you're like, oh my god,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: what is that. It's gonna be on wall until then.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Bye all. I don't know what else to say, bye
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: bye bye
