- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:46Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over
- 0:49Speaker 1: thirteen years strong. We got a great show coming your
- 0:52Speaker 1: way this week. I am Jeff Warren. Good to see
- 0:56Speaker 1: my good friend Len Huntsiger. Have been a little while here, Len.
- 0:58Speaker 1: How you doing, buddy?
- 1:00Speaker 2: It has I'm doing all right. It's been a good
- 1:03Speaker 2: couple of weeks for you.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been all right. Look, you know, uh, there's
- 1:06Speaker 1: always work going on. There's family stuff going on. It's
- 1:09Speaker 1: a slog I know. You know that. I mean, for
- 1:12Speaker 1: God's sake, you know you've got you've got a lot
- 1:15Speaker 1: of interesting stuff going on at your job. I'm not
- 1:17Speaker 1: gonna say it over.
- 1:17Speaker 2: The text message.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, there's a lot. There's you know what, There's
- 1:24Speaker 1: a there's a lot of ridiculous folks in this world,
- 1:26Speaker 1: aren't there.
- 1:27Speaker 2: World's full of personalities. Absolutely, I can tell you that.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, This Philly sports scene is full of personalities
- 1:35Speaker 1: and a lot of stuff going on. And we got
- 1:37Speaker 1: a great show coming to you this week. Because the
- 1:40Speaker 1: agenda is fantastic. We're gonna be getting first into a
- 1:44Speaker 1: decision that was made by Major League Baseball that bans
- 1:47Speaker 1: ai in the dugout. Yes, this has been going on
- 1:50Speaker 1: for a bit here. Major League Baseball wants to quote
- 1:52Speaker 1: get out in front of it. I don't know if
- 1:54Speaker 1: they're necessarily doing that, but there is a ban of
- 1:57Speaker 1: ai in the dugout. We're going to dive into that
- 2:00Speaker 1: Trey Turner, the Trey Turner conundrum. My gosh, his defense
- 2:04Speaker 1: is horrendous in the batter's box. He has been fantastic.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Glenn and I are going to certainly dive into Trey
- 2:09Speaker 1: Turner and what he's been to this Phillies team. And
- 2:12Speaker 1: then the Philadelphia Flyers extended Trevor Zegres and Jamie Drysdale.
- 2:16Speaker 1: They are now part of a core that is expected
- 2:18Speaker 1: to take that next leap to help this team compete
- 2:21Speaker 1: for a Stanley Cup at some point in the future.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We're going to get into that and what we are
- 2:25Speaker 1: thrown down on the table. This week, We've got Johnny
- 2:27Speaker 1: Page from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com and host of the
- 2:30Speaker 1: on the Shane Page podcast over at the Eagles Pinpool Network.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He's going to be joining us for him over in
- 2:36Speaker 1: England to talk about this upcoming Eagles season. So Len,
- 2:40Speaker 1: let's get into this first storyline real quick, because well,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I don't know, I guess it's gonna be real quick
- 2:46Speaker 1: just because of our time constraints. But Major League Baseball
- 2:49Speaker 1: has decided no AI, no generative AI in the dugout.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Apparently teams have been really making decisions in the dugout.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Managers have been making the decisions with regard to pitching
- 3:03Speaker 1: and just different aspects of the game and especially in
- 3:07Speaker 1: game as it pertains to you know AI, So just
- 3:12Speaker 1: really quick. Major League Baseball allowed teams to have iPads
- 3:17Speaker 1: in their dugouts starting in twenty sixteen. In twenty twenty one,
- 3:21Speaker 1: they added a new feature that allowed players to watch
- 3:23Speaker 1: live in game video from the dugout. However, the footage
- 3:26Speaker 1: could only be viewed one inning after there was a
- 3:30Speaker 1: one inning delay. And since then, Major League Baseball they've
- 3:33Speaker 1: been a little lax in terms of you know what
- 3:35Speaker 1: could and could not be accessed on these iPads, but
- 3:39Speaker 1: they have not allowed for social media other type of
- 3:42Speaker 1: streaming over the years. But when it came to generative AI,
- 3:46Speaker 1: apparently teams were really trying to put some some models
- 3:51Speaker 1: into AI to see what type of in game decision
- 3:53Speaker 1: making should be done when and I think this is
- 3:56Speaker 1: a great idea by Major League Baseball. Major League Baseball
- 3:59Speaker 1: usually doesn't have too many good ideas, but I actually
- 4:03Speaker 1: think this is a pretty damn good idea by them
- 4:05Speaker 1: to say, no, we don't want AI making the decisions
- 4:08Speaker 1: for managers, making the decisions for pitchers and catchers at
- 4:12Speaker 1: the end of the day on how this game is
- 4:14Speaker 1: going to end up going and evolving too. So I
- 4:18Speaker 1: think there's actually a good decision. What are your thoughts here?
- 4:22Speaker 2: I agree?
- 4:22Speaker 3: And also just from a standpoint of you know, just
- 4:26Speaker 3: the managers, because you look at what you know the
- 4:28Speaker 3: AI is doing. You know, it's recommending substitutions, it's recommending
- 4:33Speaker 3: pitch calling other end game decisions. So if you're a manager,
- 4:37Speaker 3: to borrow a line from office space, what is it
- 4:40Speaker 3: you'd say you do here? Because this jenitor of AI
- 4:45Speaker 3: can do all the task that a manager you know
- 4:49Speaker 3: is basically other than you know, managing personalities, I guess,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but you know, I'm how far are we from robot
- 4:57Speaker 3: managers at that point? If I was a manager, I
- 5:00Speaker 3: wouldn't want this stuff anywhere near my dugout because hey,
- 5:03Speaker 3: if it does too well, well, okay, what are you doing?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Here then, So.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I have a whole lot of other
- 5:12Speaker 3: non baseball thoughts on AI. I'm let's just say, I'm
- 5:16Speaker 3: not very positive on it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I don't think many of us folks are. I really don't.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I really don't know a lot of people who think
- 5:22Speaker 1: AI is a good thing that has been.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yeah, they do, someday the American working man won't.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That's her damn sure. But you know that's just me. Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I if I honestly, I guess.
- 5:38Speaker 3: If you're an analytics apartment, you know you're you're trying
- 5:41Speaker 3: to utilize more of this technology. But yeah, if I
- 5:45Speaker 3: was a manager or anybody in any kind of decision
- 5:48Speaker 3: making capacity in that dugout, I would be like, no,
- 5:52Speaker 3: I don't want this thing, you know, basically doing my
- 5:55Speaker 3: job for me, second guessing me. So the fact that
- 5:57Speaker 3: it was in there, I mean, you know, I get it.
- 5:59Speaker 3: You know, the supporters of AI are gonna say, oh,
- 6:03Speaker 3: it's a tool.
- 6:04Speaker 2: You utilize this tool, and it's helpful and all that stuff.
- 6:06Speaker 3: But you know, at a certain point, if it's if
- 6:09Speaker 3: the decisions it's making are consistently good.
- 6:12Speaker 2: You know, like I said, there's no need for you.
- 6:14Speaker 1: So look, I don't. I'm not. I'm not an AI
- 6:17Speaker 1: as the end all be all, and you know, it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: something that of course we're gonna end up talking about
- 6:21Speaker 1: at some point down the road. Do I think I
- 6:23Speaker 1: think it is going to change our workforce and how
- 6:26Speaker 1: everything in our lives moves forward. I actually don't think
- 6:29Speaker 1: it's the disaster necessarily that everybody thinks it's this conversation
- 6:34Speaker 1: for another time. But I think it could be the
- 6:35Speaker 1: disaster for sports in a lot of different ways. And
- 6:38Speaker 1: I'm really glad Major League Baseball has decided to do
- 6:41Speaker 1: this here because I think we've talked about this on
- 6:43Speaker 1: the show. You are a traditionalist when it comes to baseball,
- 6:45Speaker 1: baseball history, what the game has always been. I've always
- 6:48Speaker 1: been a you know, what, technology should be involved in sports.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Let's see what happens with this, this and this. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: think Major League Baseball has also done a really good
- 6:56Speaker 1: job with the technology with instant replay. I think that's
- 6:59Speaker 1: been effective. I think it's actually been good for the game, right.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, like Abs, I've got no problem with that. The
- 7:04Speaker 3: balls and strike calls, Yeah, zero problem with it at all.
- 7:07Speaker 3: So I don't want to be, you know, be like
- 7:09Speaker 3: I'm some guy from nineteen fifty two. You know I'm
- 7:13Speaker 3: talking about so with baseball. I mean, the ABS stuff
- 7:15Speaker 3: is great. Yeah, you know, it can be where it
- 7:18Speaker 3: can be used in certain places and it can really
- 7:21Speaker 3: help the game.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I just don't see how this is one of them.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a time and a place for technology in sports.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Whether it's baseball, football, basketball, soccer, hockey, there is a
- 7:30Speaker 1: time and a place for it. Major League Baseball certainly
- 7:33Speaker 1: made the right decision here for sure. But moving along
- 7:36Speaker 1: in terms of baseball and this Phillies team, len last
- 7:40Speaker 1: week on the show, Eric and I were talking about
- 7:42Speaker 1: what the Phillies we're going to need to do the
- 7:43Speaker 1: second half of the season to remain relevant. Still three
- 7:46Speaker 1: games behind the Atlanta Braves here, but there's one particular
- 7:50Speaker 1: guy on this team that is enraging everybody and that
- 7:53Speaker 1: we also love at the same time. It is this
- 7:55Speaker 1: incredible conundrum, and it's Trey Turner. He has just been
- 7:59Speaker 1: so great in the box, but my god, his defense
- 8:03Speaker 1: has been horrendous and it's costing the team. And it's
- 8:07Speaker 1: a conundrum on what should be done with Trey Turner.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Because look, shortstops, that's where coaches and managers at virtually
- 8:16Speaker 1: every level of baseball basically put their best fielders. You know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: no one denies Trey Turner's athleticism. He's thirty three years old,
- 8:25Speaker 1: still one of the fastest players in the game. We
- 8:27Speaker 1: know he's two time batting champion. No one denies the
- 8:31Speaker 1: way that he hustles on the field before and during
- 8:35Speaker 1: every game. But I think it's time that we need
- 8:37Speaker 1: to be honest with ourselves here reevaluate what his defense
- 8:40Speaker 1: has done with this team and what Trey Turner's place
- 8:44Speaker 1: is within it here. So I don't know the thoughts
- 8:46Speaker 1: are possibly moving him to right field. I don't necessarily
- 8:51Speaker 1: know if that's an option, you know, given I don't know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: I just don't know if that's an option here, Like,
- 8:57Speaker 1: what are your thoughts here with this conundrum? Defense absolutely crap,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but offense just doing some great stuff that this team needs.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he's always been, you know, that kind
- 9:08Speaker 3: of guy. He's flashy, he's slick. The slides always look cool.
- 9:14Speaker 3: He's a very cool looking player. But you know, somewhere
- 9:19Speaker 3: I think in that you know, flash sometimes just the
- 9:22Speaker 3: simple plays get lost, Like he can make some really
- 9:26Speaker 3: cool looking plays and then the simple plays. He just
- 9:29Speaker 3: I don't know if he's bored or whatever, but he
- 9:32Speaker 3: just boots stuff that he shouldn't boot. I mean, you
- 9:35Speaker 3: go back to twenty twenty three, he led the majors
- 9:37Speaker 3: with or Lee led shortstops I guess with twenty three
- 9:40Speaker 3: errs seventeen in twenty four, only eight in twenty five
- 9:45Speaker 3: in one hundred and thirty nine games. Sure, so far
- 9:48Speaker 3: he's leaving shortstops with fifteen errs. So he's kind of
- 9:52Speaker 3: doing it again. Yeah, and it wasn't. The weird thing
- 9:56Speaker 3: is it didn't seem to be if you go through
- 9:58Speaker 3: his defensive statf on Baseball Reference, the metrics didn't look
- 10:05Speaker 3: that bad prior to coming to Philadelphia.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And part of that could be an age thing. He's
- 10:10Speaker 2: still very athletic.
- 10:11Speaker 3: He's still one of the fastest players in Major League Baseball,
- 10:15Speaker 3: and maybe that's just straight line speed, but maybe you know,
- 10:19Speaker 3: it's only going to get.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Worse as time goes on.
- 10:21Speaker 3: He's thirty three now, maybe the mobility is going a
- 10:24Speaker 3: little bit, or it's just starting to go. Maybe then
- 10:28Speaker 3: that's gonna be something that you know only continues as
- 10:30Speaker 3: he gets older. And that's a tough thing about signing
- 10:33Speaker 3: guys to eleven year deals or whatever what have you.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Is that, Yeah, eventually they're gona end up in their
- 10:38Speaker 3: late thirties and they're gonna be on your team, and
- 10:40Speaker 3: what do you do with them?
- 10:41Speaker 1: Right?
- 10:42Speaker 3: So, yeah, would he take a move to right field?
- 10:46Speaker 2: I don't know what about.
- 10:48Speaker 1: There's the idea about him and Bryson Stott actually swapping
- 10:52Speaker 1: as well. Mighty go to second base. I mean, look,
- 10:55Speaker 1: he may be resistant to a change of position. Many
- 10:57Speaker 1: veterans are, but I think we're getting to the tip
- 11:00Speaker 1: point here.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I mean, he has played second before. He played it
- 11:04Speaker 3: in d C in his rookie year, he played it
- 11:07Speaker 3: for a year in LA. He played some second base
- 11:10Speaker 3: as well. He played primarily second base when he was
- 11:13Speaker 3: in LA. That when he came over in the trade.
- 11:15Speaker 3: So yeah, so he's done it before. He has played
- 11:19Speaker 3: outfield before. I don't know if it was center or right.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I mean, his physical profile to me, would lend itself
- 11:26Speaker 3: to center field, because you got that speed. You know,
- 11:29Speaker 3: you can cover a lot of ground. But obviously centerfield
- 11:33Speaker 3: seems to be covered for the time being with the
- 11:35Speaker 3: guys they have. Right field is has been kind of
- 11:38Speaker 3: a black hole for quite some time. So if he
- 11:41Speaker 3: can go there and and be happy going there, yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 3: maybe that's a solution.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But you know that, I don't know. I don't know.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I don't know what the answers are because the answers
- 11:51Speaker 3: aren't trading him, because that contract, nobody's gonna take it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah, Don madding we would do something if he had
- 11:56Speaker 1: the answer, you know he would.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and you know that's you know, a turner,
- 12:04Speaker 3: like any professional athlete that's been performing at a high
- 12:07Speaker 3: level for a long amount of time, you know, has
- 12:09Speaker 3: his pride and you know you're gonna have to massage
- 12:12Speaker 3: that a little bit.
- 12:13Speaker 2: You're gonna have to have that conversation with him.
- 12:15Speaker 3: So that's for Don Manningly or whoever the manager is
- 12:18Speaker 3: next year, for them to do down the road and say,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you know, hey, you know you would be more helpful.
- 12:25Speaker 2: To the team here on the field, right wherever here
- 12:29Speaker 2: may be.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Right, all right, Well, with that being said.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah I wish, I wish I had a good answer,
- 12:34Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, for right now, they're gonna have
- 12:37Speaker 3: to grin and beartt.
- 12:38Speaker 1: It's a good discussion. If you're watching on YouTube, leave
- 12:41Speaker 1: a comment below let us know what you're thinking, we'd
- 12:44Speaker 1: love to hear from you. Head on over to your
- 12:47Speaker 1: email and if you'd like to shoot us off a
- 12:50Speaker 1: comment about Trey Turner about what major League Baseball is
- 12:53Speaker 1: doing with a I would love to hear from you.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com may read your
- 12:58Speaker 1: email here on the show and respond to it. So
- 13:01Speaker 1: with that being said, we're going to take a break
- 13:02Speaker 1: and we get back going to get into some Flyers talk.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Danny Brier and company still getting stuff done during this offseason,
- 13:10Speaker 1: extending Trevor Zigres and Jamie Drysdale. Len and I are
- 13:13Speaker 1: going to dive into it. Stick with us, all right.
- 13:18Speaker 1: We are back and we need to get into some
- 13:22Speaker 1: more moves that have been made by this Philadelphia Flyers
- 13:24Speaker 1: front office. They have extended Trevor Zegres, Jamie Drysdale, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: as I mentioned at the top of the show, these
- 13:32Speaker 1: guys really are now part of that core that's expected
- 13:35Speaker 1: to take that next leap to help this team compete
- 13:38Speaker 1: for a Stanley Cup at some point down the road.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But just as a recap, in terms of Jamie Drysdale
- 13:44Speaker 1: four year contract extension twenty six million dollars and carries
- 13:48Speaker 1: the carries an average value annually of six point five
- 13:53Speaker 1: million dollars. Trevor Ziegres a four year contract extension thirty
- 13:57Speaker 1: six point five million dollars contract, and that's going to
- 14:02Speaker 1: be about an annual average value of nine point one
- 14:05Speaker 1: two five for the twenty five year old. Len was
- 14:09Speaker 1: very glad to see that these got done. When I
- 14:12Speaker 1: got the notifications on my phone that both Trevor Ziegres
- 14:16Speaker 1: and Jamie Drysdale have been extended, I was thinking to myself, Okay,
- 14:20Speaker 1: this Danny Breer is getting it done here, getting it done,
- 14:23Speaker 1: making sure that the core is going to be in place.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And sure there's going to need to be other moves
- 14:28Speaker 1: made at some point, who knows, maybe even during this season,
- 14:32Speaker 1: before a trade deadline next year. But I'm really looking
- 14:35Speaker 1: forward to what this team is becoming, what it may
- 14:38Speaker 1: become in for the twenty twenty six twenty twenty seven season.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Two key signings for the future here, I've it was
- 14:45Speaker 1: really great to see.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't think either one of them was
- 14:49Speaker 3: necessarily unexpected. I mean, this was all housekeeping that I
- 14:53Speaker 3: think we all in flyers Land had kind of assumed that,
- 14:56Speaker 3: you know, Danny Breer was going to get done. I mean,
- 14:59Speaker 3: these were the two big ease on the list in
- 15:01Speaker 3: terms of extensions, making sure you were locking them up
- 15:04Speaker 3: them up, and if that's all it's going to be
- 15:07Speaker 3: this offseason, then you know, that was the last bit
- 15:09Speaker 3: of business that you had to tidy up before. You know,
- 15:13Speaker 3: hockey tends to kind of really go dark from like
- 15:16Speaker 3: beginning August until you know, training camp starts up, so
- 15:20Speaker 3: you know you'll have your your month where you're really
- 15:22Speaker 3: not going to hear anything probably in the way of
- 15:24Speaker 3: hockey news. So I think this is this is probably
- 15:27Speaker 3: it for the Flyers. But I mean, you know, they're
- 15:29Speaker 3: both good deals. Drysdale has really you know, I got
- 15:33Speaker 3: to read an article and just see some of the
- 15:35Speaker 3: metrics in terms of how much he has improved defensively,
- 15:39Speaker 3: you know, and it's it's really impressive.
- 15:42Speaker 1: This year was incredible player. Yeah, yeah, the.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Player he was versus the player he became. And Zegre still,
- 15:48Speaker 3: to be honest with you, both of them became, you know,
- 15:51Speaker 3: more of two way players, you know, who can still
- 15:55Speaker 3: do pretty good things offensively Zegres in particular, but you know,
- 15:59Speaker 3: maybe maybe Drysdale kind of opens up a little bit
- 16:01Speaker 3: and his offense gets going a.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Little bit more.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I don't think Drysdale is you know, on a on
- 16:09Speaker 3: a championship level team. Is he a number one? Is
- 16:12Speaker 3: her first pairing defenseman? I don't know, but you know,
- 16:15Speaker 3: he's still a good player, and he's still a player
- 16:17Speaker 3: you need on this team even though he's not, you know,
- 16:21Speaker 3: a number one defenseman. Is either best defenseman maybe maybe him,
- 16:24Speaker 3: maybe Travis Sandheim. But yeah, it's it's moved that had
- 16:29Speaker 3: to be made, and I'm glad they made him. And
- 16:30Speaker 3: they're both relatively short term deals. I mean, you're looking
- 16:34Speaker 3: at four years for each of them, so it's not
- 16:36Speaker 3: like you've you've locked into either of these guys for
- 16:40Speaker 3: a long time. And they're both still relatively young, so
- 16:42Speaker 3: they could have if they wanted, they probably could have
- 16:45Speaker 3: gone longer with both of these guys, so it's interesting
- 16:48Speaker 3: that they didn't.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not an eight year deal like what Travis Connectney,
- 16:52Speaker 1: you know, yeah, exactly, which in a way, I'm kind
- 16:55Speaker 1: of happy about it.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I don't know those those deals, I mean, unless you're
- 16:58Speaker 3: getting a guy that you know was a star and
- 17:02Speaker 3: he's in his like early to mid twenties, those deals
- 17:05Speaker 3: kind of scare me.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Absolutely. So yeah, look, the last thing I'll say about
- 17:08Speaker 1: this before we had to break, before I let you go,
- 17:11Speaker 1: before I need to go as well, and we get
- 17:13Speaker 1: to what we're throwing down on the table. This week
- 17:15Speaker 1: with some Eagles talk, there was that chatter that the
- 17:18Speaker 1: Ziegres contract lend was maybe a bit a bit, maybe
- 17:22Speaker 1: a bit too high, because APF Analytics projected a five
- 17:25Speaker 1: year deal for Zigres with an eight point two million
- 17:29Speaker 1: dollar annual average. There was the thought that the Flyer's
- 17:34Speaker 1: offer sheet to Leo Carlson may have impacted things for
- 17:37Speaker 1: the Zegris camp if they knew that Philly was willing
- 17:40Speaker 1: to pay a top line center eighteen million per season,
- 17:43Speaker 1: that gave Zegras's camp some leverage in the negotiation. Yes,
- 17:48Speaker 1: you know so I think that I'm sure went to make.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, And I'm sure on some level, Breair probably
- 17:53Speaker 3: knew that when he threw that offer sheet out there,
- 17:55Speaker 3: if you know, Anaheim went had matched it, that you
- 17:58Speaker 3: know that would happen, that Zecress camp would go, oh
- 18:01Speaker 3: you can, you can come up from that figure a
- 18:03Speaker 3: little bit. And I'm sure it's something that he probably
- 18:06Speaker 3: had in mind. So it's probably not a terrible surprise
- 18:09Speaker 3: to him either. But you know, they still do have
- 18:11Speaker 3: I think it's like something under just under fifteen million
- 18:15Speaker 3: in cap space. So I don't think they're gonna do
- 18:18Speaker 3: anything else in this offseason. I think this offseason is
- 18:21Speaker 3: probably done. But if they are in a position during
- 18:24Speaker 3: the season where okay, we're going for it, this is
- 18:28Speaker 3: a move we can make and somebody you know, falls off,
- 18:31Speaker 3: and maybe they can make a trade and can use
- 18:33Speaker 3: that cap money to accommodate a big salary. That's something
- 18:37Speaker 3: to look at for this year.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Absolutely, they do.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Absolutely. Let us know what you're thinking. Leave us a
- 18:42Speaker 1: comment on YouTube, leave a comment below, let us know
- 18:46Speaker 1: what your thoughts are with regard to these two contract extensions.
- 18:49Speaker 1: We'd love to hear from you. And that being said, Lend,
- 18:52Speaker 1: we got the Eagle season coming up soon, buddy, I'm
- 18:55Speaker 1: gonna let you go. But man, we got bar.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weird.
- 18:59Speaker 3: It's kind of like I was having the thought the
- 19:01Speaker 3: other day of like college will probably be starting up
- 19:04Speaker 3: in like a month.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I mean we're.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Getting close to that as well.
- 19:06Speaker 3: So yeah, and that's always like I think a week
- 19:08Speaker 3: or two before the NFL so yeah, it's it's going
- 19:11Speaker 3: to be happening sooner than you think.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Absolutely, we got college football talk coming to the podcast
- 19:15Speaker 1: go Back in the Feed on the Table Talk interview
- 19:18Speaker 1: show this past week got into some Penn State football
- 19:20Speaker 1: talk with the expectations are going to be for this
- 19:22Speaker 1: upcoming twenty twenty six season. Matt Campbell is the head coach,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and we've got we got more college football talk coming
- 19:29Speaker 1: your way. Eagles talk coming your way in just a bit.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Any final thoughts, my friend before we head out of here.
- 19:36Speaker 3: No, just you know, let's hope the Phillies can kind
- 19:40Speaker 3: of keep things going here. You know, we'll see what
- 19:43Speaker 3: they doing at the trade deadline because I think they're
- 19:46Speaker 3: going to be in on a lot of guys, so
- 19:48Speaker 3: this will be an interesting trade deadline coming up.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, we are going to take a break
- 19:52Speaker 1: when we get back. Got a ton of Philadelphia Eagles
- 19:54Speaker 1: talk coming your way, and now to get into some
- 20:03Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles talk we have with us from Bleeding Green
- 20:06Speaker 1: Nation dot com and also the Eagles Pin Pull network
- 20:10Speaker 1: that I subscribe to. He also does the podcast on
- 20:15Speaker 1: the Shane Page with our buddy Shane Half as well.
- 20:18Speaker 1: We've got Johnny Page from over in England, my friend,
- 20:21Speaker 1: thank you so much for taking the time to join
- 20:23Speaker 1: us here. It's great to see him.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Man.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Eagle season is uh, it's right around the corner, man.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Yeah, we are in We are in the dead time,
- 20:32Speaker 5: aren't we. Yeah, there is very little happening. We are
- 20:35Speaker 5: finding all the topics that we can possibly talk about.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:38Speaker 5: I haven't actually spoken much about like current Eagles news
- 20:40Speaker 5: for a while. I've been doing a lot of like
- 20:42Speaker 5: mail Maggie type of things, Emplier review. So it's quite
- 20:44Speaker 5: nice to actually just talk to someone about Yeah, so
- 20:47Speaker 5: any of the recent news is out there.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I guess it's silly season in some ways, isn't it.
- 20:51Speaker 1: It is. It's such a great phrase that you use,
- 20:54Speaker 1: silly season. I actually I actually use that in my
- 20:56Speaker 1: public service career every now and we can do and
- 20:58Speaker 1: I'm talking to some of my college you know, you
- 21:00Speaker 1: got campaign time, silly season. You've got this time of
- 21:04Speaker 1: the year in sports with regard to football, and it
- 21:08Speaker 1: is absolutely silly season. We're going to get to some
- 21:11Speaker 1: silly storylines for sure. But I'd really like to start
- 21:14Speaker 1: off the discussion, Johnny by talking about the Eagles defense.
- 21:19Speaker 1: What we're going to be seeing this coming season and
- 21:21Speaker 1: what could be potentially the weakest link because we've been
- 21:24Speaker 1: talking on this podcast platform about and that's the safety position.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And I thought it was great. Just recently, you put
- 21:30Speaker 1: up a fantastic piece on Bleedinggreen nation dot com about
- 21:33Speaker 1: how two years how the second year for Andrew macouba
- 21:37Speaker 1: is really going to be very important for not only him,
- 21:39Speaker 1: but this defense from an overall perspective. Your assessment of
- 21:44Speaker 1: what you expect or what you expected from him coming
- 21:47Speaker 1: out of the draft, then what we saw during that
- 21:51Speaker 1: first year last season, it's important to understand when it
- 21:54Speaker 1: comes to his development. So folks really quick go over
- 21:57Speaker 1: to Bleedinggreennation dot com search for this piece on Andrew
- 22:01Speaker 1: mccuba that Johnny Road it was really great. But I'm
- 22:04Speaker 1: hoping you can talk about your piece a little bit
- 22:05Speaker 1: here in more detail and why you think that Andrew
- 22:09Speaker 1: mccuba is one of the most important players on the
- 22:11Speaker 1: Eagles defense coming into this season, as you mentioned in
- 22:14Speaker 1: your piece here, So I'd love for you to get
- 22:16Speaker 1: into this.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Yeah, So they're probably my favorite things to do, actually,
- 22:19Speaker 5: I think is going back and looking at sort of
- 22:22Speaker 5: how you evaluated someone coming out of college, and I
- 22:24Speaker 5: don't really like the phrase like did you get it right,
- 22:26Speaker 5: but more like did they play as you expected right?
- 22:30Speaker 4: So I'm, to.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Be honest with you a little bit terrified about the
- 22:33Speaker 5: safety position this year. I would like to know how
- 22:35Speaker 5: Vic Fanjo thinks about it off the record, because I'm
- 22:39Speaker 5: a big read, blank and Ship guy, and I really
- 22:41Speaker 5: struggle and I see the contract he got, and I
- 22:44Speaker 5: think how he has a sort of almost like a philosophy.
- 22:47Speaker 5: You don't play these mid level guys these contracts. It's
- 22:50Speaker 5: like stars and scrubs, isn't it to an extent? And
- 22:52Speaker 5: they obviously hope they can survive. I know there's a
- 22:55Speaker 5: lot of talk about the Gene playing safety, but realistically
- 22:57Speaker 5: that's not going to happen very often. He was going
- 22:59Speaker 5: to be nick a lot and he's going to play
- 23:01Speaker 5: the slot. So you've, essentially, I mean, you have downgraded
- 23:04Speaker 5: from Red Blankenship to Marcus Epps.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Is fine.
- 23:07Speaker 5: I always liked EEPs a lot, but I think at
- 23:08Speaker 5: this age in his career he's very much just a guy,
- 23:11Speaker 5: and that leaves mccoober with a pretty big task. So
- 23:14Speaker 5: I struggled with mccober coming out and that I really
- 23:17Speaker 5: liked the film. He was my safety five that year.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Guys like, what's a lot higher? And the simple reason
- 23:24Speaker 5: was just the size. And I know people talk about
- 23:25Speaker 5: Davonte Smith and what he can do, but they are
- 23:27Speaker 5: playing different positions. I think Devonte Smith sort of tries
- 23:30Speaker 5: to avoid contact in a nice way and he can
- 23:33Speaker 5: do that of his position, whereas Maccoomer actively engages in contact.
- 23:37Speaker 5: And I sort of just didn't think he could play
- 23:40Speaker 5: in all. Honestly, I don't think he can play the
- 23:41Speaker 5: way he did in college, but last year he sort
- 23:43Speaker 5: of did. So his runther things was pretty good. I
- 23:48Speaker 5: don't like the way he tackles, but he's not just small,
- 23:50Speaker 5: he's got short arms as well, so he struggles to
- 23:52Speaker 5: wrap up a little bit. The thing that surprised about
- 23:54Speaker 5: his year last year was his coverage wasn't.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Very good for the first half of the season.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Give me a couple of plays that you might remember
- 24:01Speaker 5: where he lost his eye discipline, he was trying to
- 24:03Speaker 5: do too much. He struggled in man coverage at times
- 24:05Speaker 5: where he sort of got court looking at the QB
- 24:08Speaker 5: and I think he was probably in Fangio's bad books.
- 24:11Speaker 5: And then around sort of Week eight, I think you
- 24:14Speaker 5: saw it click and I think he started playing really
- 24:17Speaker 5: well and he's a very, very fluid athlete. But there's
- 24:19Speaker 5: a there's a clip in the piece that I wrote
- 24:21Speaker 5: from week one where he ends up covering Ceedee Lamb
- 24:24Speaker 5: on a like a deep corner route and it's like, ah,
- 24:27Speaker 5: the guy could like he's so fluid in another world,
- 24:30Speaker 5: he could be a corner like. Those skills are very,
- 24:32Speaker 5: very evident. I think the biggest question with mccouber is
- 24:36Speaker 5: just can he hang for a full year? Yeah, and
- 24:38Speaker 5: he's still play the way he plays. I think if
- 24:40Speaker 5: he does, if he plays every game next year, I'll
- 24:43Speaker 5: feel pretty comfortable with him because I sort of know
- 24:45Speaker 5: what he can do now. I think there might be
- 24:47Speaker 5: a little bit more boombust element to his play last year.
- 24:51Speaker 5: I look back, he played one hundred percent of the
- 24:52Speaker 5: snaps week four, which I think for a Fangio. The
- 24:55Speaker 5: way Fangio treats the rookies and stuff, I think is
- 24:57Speaker 5: pretty impressive. I think you don't start a Fancho secondary
- 25:00Speaker 5: unless you're ready, and we've seen that with nearly everyone.
- 25:03Speaker 4: They've all taken time.
- 25:04Speaker 5: Unless you're like Quenia Mitchell level of good, then you
- 25:07Speaker 5: won't just walk in and play. And his defense is
- 25:10Speaker 5: a lot about communication. It's a lot about understanding those
- 25:12Speaker 5: around you. It's not just straight up like you go
- 25:15Speaker 5: cover that guy. So for a rookie to step in
- 25:17Speaker 5: and play as many steps as he did shows he's trusted.
- 25:20Speaker 4: But I am nervous about Akoub.
- 25:22Speaker 5: But I said, I'm like fifty to fifty, like, I
- 25:24Speaker 5: think you've got a good player, Like I don't think
- 25:26Speaker 5: he's gonna be sunny bad. I think the question is
- 25:29Speaker 5: how good and Candy hold up because even the injury last.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Year, it was a bit of a freak injury, wasn't it.
- 25:33Speaker 5: It was Sidney Brown like coming across doing what Sidney
- 25:36Speaker 5: Brown does and sort of recklessly jumping on someone and
- 25:39Speaker 5: that player a ladded on thecouvera and it is a
- 25:41Speaker 5: little bit of freaky. But he had injuries before the
- 25:44Speaker 5: season as well, and even that, like a bigger player
- 25:47Speaker 5: may not I mean, I'm hyperfectly speaking here, but you're
- 25:50Speaker 5: still being You're being aladded on by two very very
- 25:53Speaker 5: big men, and that will happen in football, and you
- 25:56Speaker 5: do need to be able to shake those off.
- 25:57Speaker 4: And he couldn't essentially, so I think I think if
- 26:00Speaker 4: he plays, I'm fine.
- 26:02Speaker 5: My big question is like if he doesn't play, then
- 26:05Speaker 5: you are looking at a depth chart going Marcus EPs
- 26:08Speaker 5: and like the late round pick was now ski like
- 26:11Speaker 5: Marcus EPs and Michael Carter, or you're going to move
- 26:14Speaker 5: the gene back and then lose the strength you have
- 26:16Speaker 5: in the Nickel and just hope Michael Carter can plain
- 26:18Speaker 5: and Nickel like, I don't know, I think they are
- 26:21Speaker 5: one personally, I would like one more. But if the
- 26:24Speaker 5: Coooba can hold up, I think Epps can do a job.
- 26:26Speaker 5: And then obviously you hope that trequ Wooden is just
- 26:28Speaker 5: a massive upgrade at cornerback to you hope you can
- 26:31Speaker 5: sort of survive any injuries that may occur.
- 26:35Speaker 4: But I can't lie.
- 26:37Speaker 5: There's a part of me still that looks at his
- 26:38Speaker 5: size and goes he's an outlier. You don't get many
- 26:42Speaker 5: of them, and yes, de Vonte Smith is one of them,
- 26:44Speaker 5: but I think the Vonte Smith has always been unbelievably
- 26:46Speaker 5: good for goodness sake.
- 26:48Speaker 4: So if you are going to be an outlier, I'd
- 26:50Speaker 4: like to say that I want.
- 26:51Speaker 5: You to be like extremely good and I'd say the
- 26:54Speaker 5: juries out, I'm cautiously optimistic.
- 26:58Speaker 1: You just said something, though, Johnny that I am so
- 27:01Speaker 1: nervous about with regard to this position, and I have
- 27:04Speaker 1: been for quite some time. Really we are on the
- 27:08Speaker 1: same wavelength with it, and it is surviving. I don't
- 27:13Speaker 1: want the secondary to survive, especially the safety position. I
- 27:17Speaker 1: don't want them surviving. And we've gotten so we've got
- 27:22Speaker 1: we've gotten new guys really coming into the fold here,
- 27:25Speaker 1: and I think it's important for us to realize we
- 27:28Speaker 1: love what we've seen with Vic Fangio's defense during his
- 27:31Speaker 1: tenure in Philly from an overall perspective, but there are
- 27:34Speaker 1: a lot of changes that have happened to this defense
- 27:37Speaker 1: over this this year, a lot of questions from this
- 27:41Speaker 1: off season where you know, we look at and it's
- 27:44Speaker 1: a good segue into the next topic here, sticking with
- 27:47Speaker 1: defensive players and looking to take that next step in
- 27:50Speaker 1: their game to another level. We hope Andrew mccooba, of course,
- 27:53Speaker 1: is going to be able to do that, as we
- 27:54Speaker 1: were just talking about, but Geead Campbell as well, He's
- 27:58Speaker 1: one of those players who could quickly I think I
- 28:00Speaker 1: think emergees a real star, but I still think there's
- 28:02Speaker 1: question marks there as well. We saw some great stuff
- 28:05Speaker 1: from him last year. How do you see Jihad Campbell
- 28:09Speaker 1: elevating this Eagles defense this year? Because I still have questions,
- 28:13Speaker 1: you know. I think he's a great talent in a
- 28:15Speaker 1: lot of ways. I was happy with the draft pick.
- 28:17Speaker 1: We saw some good stuff last year, but nothing is
- 28:20Speaker 1: absolutely solid like you have with other players on this
- 28:23Speaker 1: team from an offensive and defensive perspective. So thoughts on
- 28:27Speaker 1: Gid Campbell and how he can elevate this Eagles defense here?
- 28:30Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't ever be mad with Vick Fangio, can you?
- 28:33Speaker 5: But I wish he didn't get replaced last year by
- 28:36Speaker 5: the Kobe Dan. I know how good the Kobe Dean was,
- 28:38Speaker 5: and I get it. It's one of those things where
- 28:39Speaker 5: like the team were better because of it. I just
- 28:42Speaker 5: loved him to have got those reps all year. And
- 28:45Speaker 5: Dean was another flyer And we can say that what
- 28:47Speaker 5: we want, but the Kobe Dean has a very unique
- 28:49Speaker 5: skill set as well that basically no awful linebacker in
- 28:52Speaker 5: the league does when he comes to blitzing, and in
- 28:54Speaker 5: the way Fanjo plays that that helps a lot. I
- 28:57Speaker 5: imagine Vick would have loved to keep him around. But again,
- 28:59Speaker 5: you just dropped someone in the first round. There's no
- 29:01Speaker 5: way you can sign yet another linebacker.
- 29:03Speaker 4: So Campbell's got it all.
- 29:04Speaker 5: I like mccoober like physically, like speed wires, profile wires,
- 29:08Speaker 5: Campbell's got everything.
- 29:10Speaker 4: I think he's a better coverage linebacker and Dean is instantly.
- 29:12Speaker 5: I think the issue I had with him last year,
- 29:14Speaker 5: and to be honest, not to say I was correct,
- 29:17Speaker 5: but there was a lot of talk post draft about
- 29:19Speaker 5: Isy in edge or issy and off ball, yeah, and
- 29:21Speaker 5: I found that quite amusing because to me, he's an
- 29:24Speaker 5: off ball and I think everyone's like, ah, he's zach Bourne,
- 29:26Speaker 5: and unfortunately zac Bourne is a unicorn and there's very
- 29:29Speaker 5: few Zachbourne's for a reason. So when they tried to
- 29:31Speaker 5: put him at edge last year, he struggled, and I
- 29:34Speaker 5: felt sorry for Campbell because he ended up being shoved
- 29:36Speaker 5: there because their edges got hurt and it was a
- 29:38Speaker 5: necessity rather than a I think, to be honest, I
- 29:41Speaker 5: think he did the team favor, possibly for the detriment
- 29:43Speaker 5: of his development for a little bit of time, and
- 29:45Speaker 5: it didn't work. So there's a lot of snaps to
- 29:47Speaker 5: him edge just not being able to take on like
- 29:49Speaker 5: tight ends, Like he's not a pass rusher on the edge,
- 29:51Speaker 5: that's not his game. He spent half the time in
- 29:53Speaker 5: coverage when he was playing edge anyway, So get him
- 29:55Speaker 5: an off ball linebacker, give him a season to grow.
- 29:58Speaker 5: I think the one area development heal he has to
- 30:00Speaker 5: work on is coming downhill in the run game. So
- 30:03Speaker 5: he's a little bit like see it and then go
- 30:05Speaker 5: at the moment. There's not a lot of anticipation. And
- 30:07Speaker 5: again that takes time, and he was only a rookie,
- 30:10Speaker 5: so I'm not exactly like worried per se, but it's
- 30:13Speaker 5: something he has to develop over time. But as I said,
- 30:16Speaker 5: a little bit unlike mccouba, all the physical skill set
- 30:19Speaker 5: is there, and I think the floor is quite high
- 30:20Speaker 5: with Campbell, So I think at worst you get a
- 30:23Speaker 5: really good coverage linebackerup who in them modern NFL can
- 30:26Speaker 5: tick a lot of boxes anyway, But you do want
- 30:28Speaker 5: to see Still the NFL is going a little bit
- 30:31Speaker 5: more run heavy, of like you're going to face a
- 30:33Speaker 5: lot of might we put the tight ends sets and
- 30:36Speaker 5: you can have to get down hill quickly. You're gonna
- 30:37Speaker 5: have to take on guards, and he doesn't really take
- 30:40Speaker 5: on guards. When you think of like twenty years ago,
- 30:42Speaker 5: you think of old score off aall linebackers the old
- 30:44Speaker 5: stack and shed like head up a guard, take them on.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Make a tackle.
- 30:48Speaker 5: A lot of linebackers don't do that anymore. They avoid contact.
- 30:51Speaker 5: They almost like avoid the offensive lineman. And the way
- 30:54Speaker 5: you do that, in the best possible way, you should
- 30:56Speaker 5: beat them to the punch. So that's what Zach Gouln
- 30:59Speaker 5: does basically if he's if you amount of times you
- 31:01Speaker 5: see Zack Pauln like se A see a pulling guard
- 31:04Speaker 5: and before the guard could even get to him, he
- 31:05Speaker 5: shot the gap and blug up the plane in the backfield.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Because paul also is not going to stack and shed
- 31:10Speaker 5: like an old school lineback. But if you're not going
- 31:13Speaker 5: to do that, I think you've got to be quicker
- 31:15Speaker 5: because you basically got to beat the lineman too a spot.
- 31:18Speaker 4: And if Campbell doesn't beat them.
- 31:20Speaker 5: There, I think he can be in a little bit
- 31:22Speaker 5: of trouble because I I think he can struggle to
- 31:24Speaker 5: get off blocks. So he's got to trust his eyes.
- 31:26Speaker 5: And I think you saw it as the season progressed.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Sometimes players can develop by not playing. So I'm hoping
- 31:32Speaker 5: that for us, we go selfishly. We want to see him,
- 31:34Speaker 5: we want to see him develop. But actually maybe in
- 31:36Speaker 5: the meeting rooms, maybe by watching what the Kobe Dean does,
- 31:39Speaker 5: by having the time to step back and watch what
- 31:40Speaker 5: Zach Prn does and in the film room and stuff,
- 31:43Speaker 5: he can still take that next step forward.
- 31:45Speaker 4: But that's the big area development for him. I think
- 31:48Speaker 4: everything else is good. It's going downhill against the run.
- 31:52Speaker 4: That's what I want to see from him sort of Week.
- 31:55Speaker 1: One, absolutely, absolutely, Week one against the Commanders, we're gonna
- 31:59Speaker 1: see some stuff from both Andrew mccoova and Jiha Campbell
- 32:02Speaker 1: and where the games could potentially go. Folks, We are
- 32:05Speaker 1: going to take a quick break, but when we get back,
- 32:07Speaker 1: we've got more Eagles talk coming your way. All right,
- 32:12Speaker 1: we are back with Johnny Page from Bleedinggreen Nation dot
- 32:17Speaker 1: com at Johnny Page nine over on the Twitter slash x.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And as we're moving along here, I want to stick
- 32:25Speaker 1: just with the defense as well, because look, I know
- 32:30Speaker 1: we've got Jonathan Garnard coming into the fold as well.
- 32:32Speaker 1: A lot of us are excited to see what he
- 32:35Speaker 1: is going to do for this defense terms of the
- 32:37Speaker 1: pass rush. But our guest last week and I were
- 32:40Speaker 1: talking about the defensive line. I was telling him that
- 32:43Speaker 1: I still am a bit concerned about what the pass
- 32:46Speaker 1: rush is going to look like, even with having Jonathan
- 32:48Speaker 1: Garnard there as well, and how the defensive ends may
- 32:51Speaker 1: end up producing. I still think the jury is out
- 32:54Speaker 1: to a certain extent on how consistent Jalx Hunt and
- 32:57Speaker 1: Nolan Smith can be throughout this entire season. And sure,
- 33:01Speaker 1: Jealox Hunt had a very nice season last year with
- 33:04Speaker 1: the with with takeaways and making sure that the offense
- 33:08Speaker 1: was going to be able to get back onto the field.
- 33:10Speaker 1: We all hope that he's going to be able to
- 33:11Speaker 1: build upon that. But Johnny, I'm wondering if you're concerned
- 33:15Speaker 1: with the pass rush consistency this coming season, and why
- 33:20Speaker 1: are Why not?
- 33:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I am, I think it's I agree with you basically.
- 33:25Speaker 5: I think Nolan Smith and Jex Hunt are perfect scheme fits.
- 33:28Speaker 5: They're really really good against the run. Both of them
- 33:31Speaker 5: can drop into coverage. But I think the way Fangio
- 33:33Speaker 5: wants to win and you have to prioritize, don't. You
- 33:36Speaker 5: can't sign everyone's a big money deal, So they look
- 33:39Speaker 5: like they're going to prioritize interior defensive linement. I think
- 33:42Speaker 5: Carter and Jomo could very much be in line for
- 33:44Speaker 5: big paydays. And the basic premise is that you can
- 33:48Speaker 5: create a lot of one on one matchups, you can
- 33:49Speaker 5: use a lot of sim pressures, you can drop guys
- 33:51Speaker 5: acts coverage.
- 33:52Speaker 4: And therefore you don't need like elite edge defenders.
- 33:55Speaker 5: And I always think in principle that sounds amazing until
- 33:58Speaker 5: it's ferdinate and the key he's got four seconds to
- 34:01Speaker 5: throw and you're standing at both your age defenders as
- 34:03Speaker 5: jelling Carter's double thinking. Someone win. So I think the
- 34:07Speaker 5: end of the day scheme can only take you so far.
- 34:09Speaker 5: You have to have guys that win. And I think
- 34:11Speaker 5: Jelex Hunt, if you look at his sacks last year,
- 34:13Speaker 5: if we're being honest, was a little bit fortunate. I
- 34:15Speaker 5: think he's got a lot of cleanup sacks. He had
- 34:17Speaker 5: a lot of last matchups, there was a lot of
- 34:18Speaker 5: things that went his way. But I also think he's
- 34:20Speaker 5: an emerging talent who athletically is very very strong.
- 34:23Speaker 4: I really like Bernard. I really like Bernard.
- 34:26Speaker 5: I don't think he's going to beat like the best
- 34:28Speaker 5: of the best offensive tackles, but I think he'll dominate
- 34:32Speaker 5: eighty percent, and I think he will be a massive,
- 34:34Speaker 5: massive help. Nolan Smith, I'm like, I want to see it. Yeah,
- 34:37Speaker 5: I think now I really want to see it. The
- 34:40Speaker 5: jury's been out for him since day one. For me
- 34:42Speaker 5: as a pass rusher, everything else he does is spectacularly
- 34:44Speaker 5: good in terms of coverage and run defense, but in
- 34:47Speaker 5: terms of a pure out and out one on one
- 34:48Speaker 5: pass rusher up, the jury's always.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Been a little bit out.
- 34:51Speaker 5: So I am with you, but I think the two
- 34:54Speaker 5: magic words that could save everything card Jenlen Carter. I
- 34:58Speaker 5: think the Egles have a lot and lot of eggs
- 35:00Speaker 5: in the Jaiden Carter basket, and we didn't see it
- 35:02Speaker 5: last year for lots of reasons. We saw like good play,
- 35:05Speaker 5: but not what we saw the year before. And if
- 35:08Speaker 5: he goes back to being like god Mo Jaiden Carter
- 35:11Speaker 5: and just dominates, then I think everything else becomes easier
- 35:14Speaker 5: because all of a sudden, you realize that other players
- 35:17Speaker 5: can win their one of my matchups because the defense
- 35:19Speaker 5: is terrified about what Carter can do. Yeah, so I
- 35:21Speaker 5: would say, like, I agree with you, but I think
- 35:25Speaker 5: if Carter can really really go back to full strength,
- 35:27Speaker 5: and I think the concerns that I have are less
- 35:30Speaker 5: because of that one player, but I do think they
- 35:33Speaker 5: have a lot on him and Grenard being sort of
- 35:36Speaker 5: very good immediately.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Look and other NFL teams will you will hedge their
- 35:41Speaker 1: bets on one player, whether it's on the offensive or
- 35:43Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball, And that's what the Eagles
- 35:45Speaker 1: are really doing in terms of the defensive line with
- 35:48Speaker 1: Jalen Carter, Like you're like, you're mentioning here, and it's
- 35:52Speaker 1: it's it's kind of scary in a way to think
- 35:55Speaker 1: that the productivity of what that pass rush may end
- 35:59Speaker 1: up looking like is really contingent on one player being
- 36:03Speaker 1: able to stay healthy. And he knows what's in store
- 36:05Speaker 1: for him in terms of his potential future contract and
- 36:08Speaker 1: what that extension may look like. It's going to be
- 36:11Speaker 1: really interesting to really see how he comes out of
- 36:14Speaker 1: the gate that first week against the Washington Commanders during
- 36:17Speaker 1: the regular season. But I do want to shift over
- 36:20Speaker 1: to the offensive side of the ball here, and we
- 36:22Speaker 1: have to get into the storyline of Nick Sirianni what
- 36:26Speaker 1: he's been doing with the team, whether it's offensive, maybe
- 36:29Speaker 1: even defensive as well. But Nick Sirianni's been using chat,
- 36:32Speaker 1: GPT and AI to help prepare for the season. There's
- 36:37Speaker 1: so much ridiculous discourse online about what he may or
- 36:41Speaker 1: may not be doing with regard to his online searches
- 36:45Speaker 1: and chat GPT stuff. Here. Look, I mean, it's been
- 36:49Speaker 1: reported that he's using it to make team meetings more
- 36:52Speaker 1: efficient and creative, specifically when it actually comes to storytelling
- 36:57Speaker 1: in the world of sports. So, I don't know, do
- 37:00Speaker 1: you think do you think we need to be concerned
- 37:02Speaker 1: with Sirianni using chat GPT because you know what, you
- 37:05Speaker 1: can go down rabbit holes with regard to generative AI.
- 37:10Speaker 1: You can absolutely do it. In fact, we were just
- 37:12Speaker 1: talking on this podcast about Major League Baseball having to
- 37:16Speaker 1: ban AI in the dugout they ended up doing that.
- 37:21Speaker 1: It's becoming more and more common in sports for teams, coaches,
- 37:27Speaker 1: players to use generative AI to help enhance what they're
- 37:32Speaker 1: doing in terms of their sport. From an analytics standpoint,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I guess it can potentially be helpful. I mean, what
- 37:38Speaker 1: are your thoughts on this narrative, this storyline, Johnny.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Yeah, where do you go?
- 37:43Speaker 5: You said you should we be concerned about Sirianni and
- 37:45Speaker 5: then you said and then you should just stop there?
- 37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, I could have answered the question like, I
- 37:51Speaker 4: don't know.
- 37:51Speaker 5: I think if every team is going to be using
- 37:53Speaker 5: it now for decision making, aren't they like every team Yeah,
- 37:56Speaker 5: I mean analyt they were using it in terms of
- 37:57Speaker 5: analytics and stuff. And I imagine, I like a bit
- 38:00Speaker 5: about team meetings being more efficient, Like I imagine there's
- 38:03Speaker 5: quite a lot of good tools where you can provide
- 38:04Speaker 5: transcripts of your team meetings, like summaries of meetings, Like,
- 38:07Speaker 5: but they should have been doing that.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Already, sure, exactly years. Yeah, Like I guess, and this
- 38:12Speaker 4: is almost like a jokey thing.
- 38:13Speaker 5: And if he wants to google some motivational stories, if
- 38:16Speaker 5: he thinks that's going to make a difference, then fine.
- 38:20Speaker 5: I guess the two things that I have like somewhat
- 38:22Speaker 5: serious Number one, like.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Do we need to know exactly?
- 38:26Speaker 5: Do I need to know like I'm sure every coach does.
- 38:28Speaker 5: No coach is going to admitute every coach will we
- 38:31Speaker 5: know most people in the world are going to be
- 38:32Speaker 5: using it, Like it speaks to a little bit of
- 38:35Speaker 5: I don't know, like foolishness or maybe arrogance, you could
- 38:37Speaker 5: say on his behalf as if like this is a
- 38:40Speaker 5: radically new thing that he's going to google and didn't
- 38:42Speaker 5: talk about, like he's found a story of a motivational story,
- 38:45Speaker 5: and I'm thinking like yeah, And I guess the second
- 38:48Speaker 5: thing is it sort of sums up his role in
- 38:50Speaker 5: some ways this year, like as the Dan Campbell head coach,
- 38:53Speaker 5: Like is he just going to fully get out the
- 38:55Speaker 5: way of the offensive like meeting room and just say
- 38:58Speaker 5: she'll mannon that it's yours now and it's there be
- 39:00Speaker 5: a full on different offense. And if that's the case,
- 39:03Speaker 5: you sometimes wonder like is your job? Is that your
- 39:05Speaker 5: job now looking up motivational stories? And if it is,
- 39:08Speaker 5: then fair enough, Dan Campbell. It can have success if
- 39:10Speaker 5: you've got a great offensive and defensive mind. But it
- 39:12Speaker 5: makes him seem a little bit I don't want to
- 39:14Speaker 5: say silly, but if it was a little bit redundant,
- 39:16Speaker 5: doesn't it exactly when you've got a guy running the
- 39:19Speaker 5: offense and the guy running the entire defense, and your
- 39:21Speaker 5: head coach is using whatever AI tool to search for
- 39:24Speaker 5: motivational stories that players probably sit there and meeting rooms
- 39:27Speaker 5: like shaking their heads.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I just there's two parts to it.
- 39:31Speaker 5: One is like if they're not using it, for the
- 39:33Speaker 5: for that kind of like team meeting summaries, like for
- 39:36Speaker 5: loads of analytics stuff.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Then they have to.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Be because as much as AI can maybe have problems,
- 39:41Speaker 5: if you're not yea, if you're not using it for
- 39:42Speaker 5: certain things, I think it's mad.
- 39:44Speaker 4: But I just query like do we need to know?
- 39:47Speaker 4: So do I need to know?
- 39:48Speaker 5: And even like mention the AI tools using it almost
- 39:51Speaker 5: like you don't even.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Need to say it exactly, like yeah, I discovered it.
- 39:55Speaker 4: I was like, and have you not heard of it before?
- 39:56Speaker 5: Like it's just you feel like Sirianni doesn't really care
- 39:59Speaker 5: what people and does his own thing. And sometimes I
- 40:01Speaker 5: respect it, and sometimes I'm a bit like just shut
- 40:05Speaker 5: up and win for.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Especially the storyline, because it's like, oh man, you just
- 40:08Speaker 1: kind of seem at a touch in a way.
- 40:10Speaker 4: You know.
- 40:11Speaker 5: I think he's a bit of a punchbag from a
- 40:13Speaker 5: national media anyway. Yeah, Like there's already a lot of
- 40:15Speaker 5: shows that you probably listened to, like national media shows
- 40:17Speaker 5: that find him a bit of a gimmick character anyway.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Yeah, he is.
- 40:21Speaker 4: He is very gimmicky, isn't he?
- 40:22Speaker 5: And I think he was endearing at some points the
- 40:24Speaker 5: Philadelphia fans and now he's a little bit less endearing.
- 40:28Speaker 5: So sometimes I'm like, just don't give people ammunition. You
- 40:31Speaker 5: can see like chat shows and w IP and week
- 40:34Speaker 5: three if the Eagles and the one two or one
- 40:36Speaker 5: on one, like people posting things online can't knew how
- 40:40Speaker 5: to rebuild it for like you can just see it now.
- 40:43Speaker 5: Sometimes I'm like, don't give the opposition ammunition before the
- 40:46Speaker 5: season has begun.
- 40:48Speaker 4: But I don't think Serri only cares. And sometimes I
- 40:51Speaker 4: respect it. Sometimes I think it's.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Mad exactly exactly great points, great points for sure. But look,
- 40:57Speaker 1: we're looking at this offense and how the offensive product
- 41:00Speaker 1: activity is really going to manifest itself this year under
- 41:02Speaker 1: Shawn Manion. At the end of the day, Johnny, the
- 41:06Speaker 1: offensive line is going to be so critical to the
- 41:08Speaker 1: success to the success of the offense from an overall perspective.
- 41:12Speaker 1: We saw it happen last year with a consistently banged
- 41:16Speaker 1: up Cam Jurgens, Lane Johnson, and Landon Dickerson. So I'm
- 41:20Speaker 1: looking more as this offensive line continues to get older,
- 41:24Speaker 1: they continue to be more injured. Their bodies just go
- 41:27Speaker 1: through so much on a yearly basis, the depth of
- 41:31Speaker 1: this offensive line is going to be so critical I
- 41:34Speaker 1: think this year because I just don't think you can
- 41:37Speaker 1: trust the health of these gentlemen. As much as we
- 41:40Speaker 1: want to and as much as we hold out hope,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think we're going to be able to
- 41:44Speaker 1: do that. What are your thoughts on depth coming into
- 41:47Speaker 1: this season with the offensive line, given how injury prone
- 41:51Speaker 1: these particular guys have been during the course of their
- 41:54Speaker 1: career so far and especially over the past year. What
- 41:56Speaker 1: are your thoughts here?
- 41:57Speaker 4: Yeah, terrified as well.
- 41:59Speaker 5: Like you said, I think the worst thing about being
- 42:01Speaker 5: a sports fan is just not knowing.
- 42:02Speaker 4: But if you told me now that Cam.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Jurgens a Landon Dickerson are fine and they're fully healthy
- 42:06Speaker 5: and the season will be great, then wonderful. But you've
- 42:09Speaker 5: got Lane Johnson coming back what missing INNC games last year?
- 42:13Speaker 5: Jurgons was just, let's be honest, not very good all year.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Dickerson was not very good all year, and half of
- 42:18Speaker 5: it was the scheme might have been the worst professional
- 42:20Speaker 5: scheme I've ever seen in my entire life, helping the
- 42:23Speaker 5: offensive line. But the other issue may have just been
- 42:25Speaker 5: but they weren't that good Outside of that. You're throwing darts,
- 42:30Speaker 5: aren't you? You're throwing darts like I feel a lot
- 42:33Speaker 5: better about tackle with Fred Johnson back.
- 42:34Speaker 4: I'm quite a big Fred Johnson guy. That was a
- 42:37Speaker 4: good resigning to me.
- 42:38Speaker 5: That made me breathe easy a little bit, because what
- 42:40Speaker 5: that means is you've basically got free dart FROs in
- 42:43Speaker 5: Miles Hinton, Cameron Williams and Mark Elbell, and all of
- 42:46Speaker 5: them have got major flaws. I happened to actually like
- 42:49Speaker 5: Cameron Williams the most going back to last year, but
- 42:51Speaker 5: he barely played them when he did in Week eighteen,
- 42:53Speaker 5: he struggled a little bit. Mark Albell I think is
- 42:56Speaker 5: actually a very very interesting player, but he's got a
- 43:00Speaker 5: lot of work to be done.
- 43:01Speaker 4: So I think for next year at tackle.
- 43:03Speaker 5: You're looking at Fred Johnson, and then I think at
- 43:05Speaker 5: guard and censer, you've got two names to look at. Really,
- 43:07Speaker 5: You've got Woody Lampkin, who is just like the wild card.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Could he back up at center? Could he be useful
- 43:15Speaker 4: in certain systems?
- 43:16Speaker 5: But I think Drew Kendall was the one that I like,
- 43:19Speaker 5: so he looked quite good in Week teen last year.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I'm actually going to go back and rewatch him.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Again for a piece shortly, but I started last week,
- 43:26Speaker 5: and I had a look at the week eighteen game,
- 43:28Speaker 5: and I quite like the look of him.
- 43:30Speaker 4: I think he said that he is cross training this
- 43:32Speaker 4: year at guard as well.
- 43:33Speaker 5: Nice, so he might be first man up because there's
- 43:37Speaker 5: not a lot else And if you squint and if
- 43:38Speaker 5: you go Fred Johnson, there's your first backup. How many
- 43:41Speaker 5: teams have got a good backup tackle? I think Fred
- 43:43Speaker 5: Johnson's about as good as it gets. And then you
- 43:46Speaker 5: can squint and say, well, if they can develop just
- 43:48Speaker 5: one of the free tackles and then Kendall can give
- 43:50Speaker 5: them some interior protection. I think if you look closely,
- 43:54Speaker 5: you can say it's okay. The truth is that we've.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Been blessed for offensive line depth that most teams.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Just don't have. We are very spoiled with it.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Yeah, what it's worth.
- 44:03Speaker 5: Brandon Fahn, who to me, and I'm sure many is
- 44:05Speaker 5: the on line girl of Guru, Sorry there is. He
- 44:09Speaker 5: ranked the one to thirty two offensive lines who established
- 44:12Speaker 5: a run and a little bit cheating because I'm not
- 44:15Speaker 5: a subscriber, but when you click on it, you get
- 44:17Speaker 5: to see the first four and the Eagles are at second.
- 44:19Speaker 5: So it's one of those things that maybe is Philadelphia fans.
- 44:22Speaker 5: We stress about it because we go But what if
- 44:24Speaker 5: Jurgons back and other teams are liking we have like
- 44:27Speaker 5: one guy that can play tackle work, Right, You're sitting
- 44:30Speaker 5: there with Lan Johnson and Jordan my Latta and you're moaning. Yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 5: So I think that's we're I think we should be
- 44:35Speaker 5: okay if Jurgens and Dickerson. This is a weird thing
- 44:38Speaker 5: to say, but if they're not healthy, I want them
- 44:41Speaker 5: to sit out. I think what annoyed me last year
- 44:43Speaker 5: is professional athletes just keep playing and playing and playing,
- 44:45Speaker 5: and it's the coach's job, and it's the injury guys job,
- 44:48Speaker 5: the medical staff to go no sit out because I
- 44:51Speaker 5: think at times last year Bret tof looked better. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 5: And I was like, why are you playing Jurgons still?
- 44:56Speaker 5: It's not helping us, it's not helping him. So if
- 44:59Speaker 5: they're not right, get them out, give someone else a go,
- 45:02Speaker 5: because I think playing through injuries can sometimes be worse
- 45:05Speaker 5: than just accepting defeat. Yeah, so I'm sort of yeah,
- 45:09Speaker 5: once again, I'm fifty to fifty. But int of the day,
- 45:11Speaker 5: as long as lanes back, you've still got two star
- 45:13Speaker 5: started tackles. And as an offensive coaching staff, they should
- 45:16Speaker 5: be trying to scheme around weaknesses rather than just running
- 45:19Speaker 5: into also phrase square picking a roundhole or whatever last year. Yeah,
- 45:23Speaker 5: so as long as you're trying to scheme around it,
- 45:25Speaker 5: if you do have a week and it's fine, actually
- 45:28Speaker 5: scheme around it for once, which hopefully they'll do this year.
- 45:30Speaker 5: I think the scheme will make it easier on the
- 45:32Speaker 5: offensive line, which will help them out.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Can't wait to see what this scheme is going to be.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Can out wait to see what Sean Mannion is going
- 45:38Speaker 1: to be doing. Seriously, it's like I'm just we're all
- 45:41Speaker 1: waiting to see it. That first preseason game is going
- 45:44Speaker 1: to and it's just preseason, but everybody's going to be
- 45:47Speaker 1: just clamoring to see what this offense looks like and
- 45:50Speaker 1: how the offensive line is really going to be performing,
- 45:53Speaker 1: even during the preseason. So that being said, folks, really quick,
- 45:56Speaker 1: we do have to take one more break. When we
- 45:58Speaker 1: come back, we're going to get into the underdogs, who
- 46:02Speaker 1: could be one of the most underrated Eagles on this
- 46:05Speaker 1: team heading into this season. We'll be right back in
- 46:08Speaker 1: just a bit. We're back with our good buddy Johnny
- 46:13Speaker 1: Page at Johnny Page nine over on the Twitter slash
- 46:17Speaker 1: x Bleedinggreen Nation dot com and also the Eagles Pinpool Network.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I am a subscriber. And before we get to our
- 46:26Speaker 1: last topic here, Johnny, any other places where folks can
- 46:29Speaker 1: find you on the interwebs out there if you want
- 46:30Speaker 1: to get that out there, out there are folks.
- 46:32Speaker 5: To be fair, I think I think you smashed its.
- 46:35Speaker 5: There we go two places, Yeah, all right, Leading Green
- 46:38Speaker 5: Nation and Eagles Pinpool Network.
- 46:41Speaker 4: And yeah, that's basically yeah.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Awesome, sweet awesome. Well, buddy, before I let you go here,
- 46:46Speaker 1: excuse me just one last topic. And we always love
- 46:49Speaker 1: talking about underdogs, especially in the world of Philly sports.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Love talking about those players who may be underrated, who
- 46:56Speaker 1: may be able to elevate their game and take even
- 46:59Speaker 1: the team to another level as well. Who do you
- 47:02Speaker 1: think could be the most underrated Eagle on this team
- 47:05Speaker 1: as we're looking at the twenty twenty six season and why?
- 47:09Speaker 5: Yeah, It's sort of a not an easy question this
- 47:12Speaker 5: year because I feel like the Eagles are pretty clear
- 47:14Speaker 5: on like who their stars and scrubs are to extent,
- 47:17Speaker 5: so like you could mention like a Moro Jomo who,
- 47:19Speaker 5: But I think most fans have now caught up to it.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yep.
- 47:22Speaker 5: So I guess when I was looking, and honestly I
- 47:24Speaker 5: looked and I was like, there's not an easy answer,
- 47:26Speaker 5: is there, Like like I might go in different directions,
- 47:30Speaker 5: So like who could be like under the radar I
- 47:32Speaker 5: looks at this year and so helping them.
- 47:34Speaker 4: So I mentioned one of them already. I mentioned Drew Kendall.
- 47:37Speaker 5: I think he could be a backup guard and backup center,
- 47:39Speaker 5: and that realistically means I think you're played because he
- 47:41Speaker 5: could be behind two very injured players in or injury
- 47:46Speaker 5: prone players in Jerkins and Dickerson. I will give you
- 47:48Speaker 5: the signing they made early on at the start of
- 47:50Speaker 5: the year in Johnny Munt at tight end because I
- 47:53Speaker 5: think when you look at the scheme that they're going
- 47:56Speaker 5: to be running, I think you're going to have to
- 47:57Speaker 5: have tight ends that can block in line. And they
- 47:59Speaker 5: made a very resting is one word, second round pick
- 48:02Speaker 5: in Eli Stowers, who maybe can't do that.
- 48:05Speaker 4: So then you think that, well, it's going to be
- 48:07Speaker 4: got a month.
- 48:07Speaker 5: They're going to play a lot, so I think month
- 48:09Speaker 5: is probably He's not going to be a sexy pick.
- 48:11Speaker 5: He's not going to have dozens of catches, but in
- 48:13Speaker 5: terms of what they want to do schematically, I think
- 48:16Speaker 5: he's really really important. And then I think I was
- 48:21Speaker 5: looking at defensively and the names are sort of obvious.
- 48:26Speaker 5: I don't love like a really really obvious defensive player,
- 48:31Speaker 5: So I'll go with someone that I mentioned earlier on.
- 48:33Speaker 4: I think because we were all gutted to lose out on.
- 48:36Speaker 5: Jaden Phillips, because Jaden Phillips is such a good player,
- 48:39Speaker 5: I think that Jonathan Grenard maybe has gone under the radar.
- 48:42Speaker 5: I don't really read much about him. I don't see
- 48:44Speaker 5: a lot out there. It seems like, oh, yeah, we
- 48:46Speaker 5: lost Phillips, We've got Grenard. I feel like because of that,
- 48:49Speaker 5: Grenard is almost like trying to fill quite a big hole.
- 48:53Speaker 4: And I think Gernard's a really good tootball player.
- 48:55Speaker 5: Like I think if the Eagles could, you could have
- 48:56Speaker 5: told him at the start what they wouldn't get Jaden Phillips.
- 48:59Speaker 5: But they get and are to what they got him for.
- 49:01Speaker 5: I think that they have been pretty happy. So I
- 49:04Speaker 5: think maybe underrated in terms of because I think, to
- 49:06Speaker 5: your point earlier on about Edge, they need someone to
- 49:09Speaker 5: do the business and Jack Jaien Phillips was very.
- 49:12Speaker 4: Good and.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Very consistent. It's the consistency that I'm that we're all
- 49:17Speaker 1: concerned about.
- 49:19Speaker 5: And I think they're going to lose a little bit
- 49:20Speaker 5: of the ability to scheme up pressure because they haven't
- 49:23Speaker 5: got the thunder Boulder is the Kobe d next year,
- 49:25Speaker 5: So I they're going to have to win more one
- 49:27Speaker 5: on one matchups, which we said earlier on and I
- 49:28Speaker 5: think if Carter and Davis can take doubles, I think
- 49:31Speaker 5: the edge defenders are going to be.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Go and win.
- 49:33Speaker 5: And I think Grenard can, and I mean I hope
- 49:36Speaker 5: he does, because Eagles need some more pressure outside. Honestly,
- 49:39Speaker 5: I feel like there's not a lot of obvious players
- 49:43Speaker 5: to mention if you wanted a really dark horse. I
- 49:46Speaker 5: quite like the film of aj I can ever pronounce
- 49:50Speaker 5: his name Epenza beause they sign as well assuming he
- 49:54Speaker 5: makes the team, because they've got quite a lot of
- 49:56Speaker 5: players there. I do think he fits the role was
- 50:00Speaker 5: like a bigger edge that they haven't got elsewhere. Yeah,
- 50:03Speaker 5: and I like the way he plays like real hustle,
- 50:05Speaker 5: like real tenacity, So I think he could be like
- 50:08Speaker 5: someone that maybe you'll play a little bit more than
- 50:10Speaker 5: people think because Fangio does love to rotate, so he
- 50:13Speaker 5: could be a dark horse for someone that could contribute
- 50:16Speaker 5: who I don't really see anyone mentioned online right.
- 50:19Speaker 1: The other aspect of this we talked about on the
- 50:22Speaker 1: show last week too. We talked about one specific position,
- 50:25Speaker 1: and it was the kicker position. I really look Jake Elliott.
- 50:30Speaker 1: I've loved him for so many years, but he left
- 50:32Speaker 1: a lot of points on the field last year, in
- 50:34Speaker 1: fact the past two seasons, and if he's gonna have
- 50:37Speaker 1: some competition during training camp remains to be seen and
- 50:40Speaker 1: what that competition may actually look like. But I would
- 50:43Speaker 1: say a potent not that I'm wanting it, but a
- 50:46Speaker 1: potential new kicker could be an underrated individual on this
- 50:50Speaker 1: team as well. I don't want to put the card
- 50:51Speaker 1: before the wars. We certainly don't have a crystal ball here,
- 50:54Speaker 1: but I think that that could actually be someone as
- 50:57Speaker 1: well who could potentially be under as well.
- 51:00Speaker 4: Johnny, Yeah, I think what was who was it?
- 51:02Speaker 5: I can't remember who was the chip Kelly is and
- 51:04Speaker 5: but competition everywhere is what you always want. Yeah, maybe
- 51:08Speaker 5: Elliot's had a little bit of a couple of seasons
- 51:09Speaker 5: with a little bit less competition.
- 51:11Speaker 4: It happens.
- 51:12Speaker 5: He's a professonal athlete, but he's also a human being,
- 51:15Speaker 5: and we all settled, don't we.
- 51:17Speaker 4: And last year wasn't great.
- 51:18Speaker 5: So I think this year we're probably not going to
- 51:21Speaker 5: be dominant enough to give leave points on the field
- 51:23Speaker 5: on offense because he's going to take some time, Especially
- 51:25Speaker 5: the first half of the season.
- 51:26Speaker 4: You might be kicking a few more field goals.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Than you like.
- 51:28Speaker 5: So those kind of things matter. Yeah, so yeah, I'm
- 51:31Speaker 5: with you. Would again. Whether they'll get someone that's actually
- 51:34Speaker 5: better is probably unlikely, but even just someone to put
- 51:38Speaker 5: a little bit of fire in his belly and just
- 51:40Speaker 5: let him know that he has to perform this year.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Sometimes that's not a bad thing.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes it's not bad at all. But this Eagles
- 51:47Speaker 1: season right around the corner. Training camp is right around
- 51:50Speaker 1: the corner. I believe seven or eight days, well actually
- 51:53Speaker 1: six or seven days when we get this podcast up
- 51:55Speaker 1: until training camp starts again, folks. He is Johnny Page
- 51:58Speaker 1: from Believing Green Nache at Johnny Page nine over on
