- 0:05One of my biggest dreams was to leave my village so I could go to
- 0:09the big city, meet new people, cultures, but mainly study the criminology
- 0:15career. This passion arose from the immense cases that only gave first place in
- 0:21news, but they never deepened, as usually the public was not interested,
- 0:27or rather created certain morbidities towards the subject. So, after thinking about it
- 0:33clearly and thinking about it and being able to put that dream to my parents,
- 0:38they supported me. That' s how a villager' s dream began.
- 0:43It would soon become a nightmare. That process was so sudden that I
- 0:48quickly packed my bags and everything I needed to leave. There was a long
- 0:53way to go and my nerves were at the top. It was an experience
- 0:59never before seen, as my foreign life was going to change me completely.
- 1:03Having no friend or family member overwhelmed me a little bit and although I knew
- 1:08things would go well, there was something inside me that made me doubt if
- 1:14everything would really turn out as I expected. I tried to relax, say
- 1:22goodbye to my dearest ones and take a journey that I would remember all my
- 1:26life. It wasn' t just about leaving for a few days, but
- 1:32for years. He longed to grow in every possible area, mainly in the
- 1:38professional. When I arrived at my new apartment, I automatically ran to turn
- 1:44on the lights, since in that room I began to feel a very heavy
- 1:49vibration. However, I alluded to loneliness because at that time I was in
- 1:53a trance of loneliness, worry and endless emotions of n n n n n
- 1:57n n n. S. Considering that the next day was my first school
- 2:01meeting to meet my new colleagues and teachers, I decided to accommodate my things.
- 2:08I prepared to go to school despite that gap I felt I tried to
- 2:13turn the whole perspective around, as I was excited. Knowing that I would
- 2:17have one more meeting about the bodies, autopsies, and research into how people
- 2:23died caused me uncertainty. I had a great time that night. I was
- 2:30able to sleep easily, so the next day my classes started where I was
- 2:36briefly told that I was dealing with the race. Knowing exactly what I would
- 2:40see from now on, I felt a little scared. These subjects involved being
- 2:46in contact with those bodies themselves that to some extent proved to be unpleasant.
- 2:53That' s when I analyzed the situation. It was not only a question
- 2:58of looking at and smelling those people, but also of being aware that,
- 3:02from one moment to another, some spirit in sorrow could come. Since I
- 3:07was a kid. He was a faithful believer that the beings of the sea
- 3:10there existed, mainly if they were people who died in cruel and tragic ways.
- 3:16After all that review, I decided to head home. I began to
- 3:22question whether I was really willing to do all that. I was a simple
- 3:27villager. I had never been presented with such a situation clearly something within me
- 3:32warned me what could happen. When I got to my room, I felt
- 3:38that vibe again. However, I decided to fix all the earrings I had
- 3:43at the time, mainly unpacking the belongings that were still in my suitcase and,
- 3:50as the hours passed, my loneliness and darkness were again present. After
- 3:57all that happened and finally being able to fall asleep journey in a dream so
- 4:00deep that it seemed reality I still do not remember to perfection. I was
- 4:05in an amphitheater, which was surrounded by bodies of different ages. Sizes and
- 4:12genders, and as I looked at each other, my mind and body began
- 4:16to wear out. Those souls began to drain my energy little by little,
- 4:21as if it were an evil spirit that wished to take over my person.
- 4:27That' s when I went especially to a body that was embalmed. So
- 4:32in being able to describe the body that was wrapped in so many bags,
- 4:38a fright and chill came to my body. He was an identical dead man.
- 4:42It was like I was seeing myself in that pit. At that time
- 4:47I could not understand what had happened. I' ve never had a dream,
- 4:53so when I woke up I ran to the bathroom. I looked in
- 4:56the mirror and tried to analyze that all that had been a po nightmare,
- 5:00but that certainty that I was dead had remained permeated in me, for now
- 5:05more than I ever doubted that I was made for that vocation. Upon arrival
- 5:12at school, one of my tutors told my colleagues and I that we would
- 5:15go to an amphitheater. We had to start getting acquainted with this kind of
- 5:23case from the start. That race was more complex than we thought. For
- 5:29a moment I could swear that place was the same as my dreams, even
- 5:32though I had never stepped on an amphitheater. I remember it just as I
- 5:36had dreamt it one night before. It was as if it had been a
- 5:42message that was addressed only to me. Perhaps I had to interpret it differently
- 5:47or, probably at best, really get away at that moment I was very
- 5:53confused by the context I lived in. Despite receiving endless signals the s s
- 5:58s tea to keep calm and let it pass. The whole practice was going
- 6:03well. However, that same night again I dreamed of my death and as
- 6:09the days passed, my body had created a series of circumstances, most of
- 6:14which prevented me from sleeping. In all the dreams that I had, it
- 6:19was that I ended up dead, murdered, or maimed. Even on one
- 6:25occasion I can remember that my dream, myself, had committed suicide. Clearly,
- 6:30I didn' t tell people this, because my new friends would think
- 6:33I was crazy. On the other hand. On many occasions I wanted to
- 6:39tell all these events to my family, which perhaps would believe me, but
- 6:44at the same time I would worry about all this. It had been a
- 6:47series of events, which I could not explain. I didn' t know
- 6:53if these dreams were due to the new decision I had made, or maybe
- 6:57the room I lived in had souls that could be seen from my dreams at
- 7:00night. As things went well in the day, I came to a point
- 7:05where my body and mind panicked, for the evening had become my worst enemy.
- 7:13After several days, I realized that it was not only about dreams,
- 7:15but about lost souls, which were in the same room that I had mainly
- 7:20become routine to hear my name whispered. They asked me for help and some
- 7:30others even came to laugh at me because at some point I came to think
- 7:33that I was going crazy, so, in the midst of my despair,
- 7:39I decided to go to the school psychologist, who listened attentively to everything that
- 7:44told her that had happened in previous days. While listening to that series of
- 7:49situations, he watched me naturally. Deep down, I knew that I probably
- 7:55thought I lacked my mental faculties, because by telling him that I was a
- 8:00foreign person and had come to study from far away, he looked up and
- 8:05began to write in his notebook what is happening to me. All I wanted
- 8:09right now was to run away from there, take my bags and go back
- 8:13to my town. However, my pride earned more from fear, so I
- 8:18resisted. I continued to take therapy and while the psychologist explained to me that
- 8:24these events were perhaps due to the fear of the career in which I had
- 8:30entered, I knew perfectly well that it was not only that, but also
- 8:35those ghosts who persecuted me all over the room I came to think of renting
- 8:41another place, but that was very complicated. There were too high prices that
- 8:45I could not easily pay, so I tried to keep calm again and think
- 8:50of something that could solve those dreams that tormented me every night, because the
- 8:56story of my death was different. On one occasion, specifically, one of
- 9:01my classmates approached me worried, as he told me that I looked very distant
- 9:05pale, as if I were out of reality, I could perceive my shiners.
- 9:13It was as if I didn' t rest, as if something were
- 9:18hurting me, to which I replied that everything was going well. However,
- 9:20to which the boy insisted on the situation, I knew that I was local
- 9:24and did not have many friends or at least someone to trust, so,
- 9:30after going over the matter, I decided to tell him the truth. At
- 9:35the time of observing his reaction, he told me that this was totally natural,
- 9:39because it was said that there were hundreds of souls lost there, who
- 9:45had died due to the Mexican Revolution armed conflict initiated in the year of nineteen
- 9:50hundred and ten to one thousand and nine hundred and forty, which took the
- 9:56lives of thousands of people, considering most of them were souls in pain,
- 10:00which, despite so many years, still did not find in eternal rest.
- 10:05That boy named David told me that in his childhood, his great- grandfather
- 10:11was able to witness that conflict and told him about the terrible injustices experienced at
- 10:16the time. That was when, one day, walking through the streets of
- 10:20the city, he pointed out with his hand exactly the place where I rented,
- 10:26and that was when he explained that there was one of the most well
- 10:30- known massacres of that movement. After that count, undoubtedly, everything was
- 10:35beginning to make sense, as most of the strange noises that I used to
- 10:39hear at night came from souls, who lamented and asked for help. It
- 10:46was like they wanted to save themselves. However, knowing the whole story mentioned
- 10:50above could solve the problem I was going through. So I just contacted the
- 10:56landlord, who had rented my room. I told him what had happened and
- 11:01kindly asked him if at any time someone had died in that place or something
- 11:05strange had happened that could explain those phenomena that lived night after night. The
- 11:13concerned man told me that years ago they had murdered a man, who was
- 11:18one of the commanders of the Revolution. However, that was not the worst
- 11:22of the case, but the way it was attacked, as it was rumored
- 11:26that he was a psychopath, who was about to commit suicide due to all
- 11:31the mishaps of the war. That was how days later, a man he
- 11:35owed a favor took advantage of that moment and with a knife began to mutilate
- 11:41him. It was said that the debt was very large and this man could
- 11:46not pay it. And though it was never known whether it was jewelry money
- 11:50or probably some bill. This man was one of the best- known murderers
- 11:56at the time, as the city' s few criminologists gathered to analyze the
- 12:01body, drawing different conclusions from what happened. However, the technology was not
- 12:09as good as it is today, so a result was not really achieved as
- 12:13those professionals expected. When I listened deeply to that anecdote, I did not
- 12:20understand why those spirits had chosen me to cause terror, which days later I
- 12:26realized they were really looking for a lonely person, who was vulnerable. And
- 12:31when I found myself at such a time in my life and rented in that
- 12:35place of fact, things were beginning to make sense. At least for me,
- 12:41it was like it was a puzzle. Every day I found a different
- 12:46piece, which was key to getting rid of those nightmares that haunted me at
- 12:50night. Restarting conversation with my landlord, he assured me that the body of
- 12:56that revolutionary passed into so many processes rumored about that man, who could never
- 13:01have eternal rest. It should be mentioned that searches were made in other States
- 13:09to be investigated and although they never found the whereabouts of the killer, let
- 13:13alone the exact version of how he died. Many versions say that they have
- 13:18seen this man walking the streets of the city at night, as well as
- 13:22in the amphitheater, because he mentions to the public that he lies in a
- 13:28corner of the walls while crying inconsolably, because in his conscience was the unjust
- 13:33deaths of hundreds of people, something that he could never overcome. How little
- 13:37he managed to have in his life. Little by little I began to neglect
- 13:43what really mattered, as my fear increased. My desire to continue college went
- 13:48down, as did my enthusiasm at the beginning of this new life that I
- 13:52had begun. So, after so many moments, things and anecdotes, the
- 13:58only option I had was to believe in that story, because despite being a
- 14:03little crazy, everything that was happening to me made sense. It was something
- 14:09you can' t explain, but you can feel. I was so desperate
- 14:13that one day I was going to the cemetery in the hope that, despite
- 14:16so many years, there was still a trace of him or at least something
- 14:22to prove that that person had indeed existed. All he wanted was for that
- 14:26man to have eternal rest and to himself the other souls alike, for he
- 14:31had been part of that cruel battle and massacre where many people died. So,
- 14:37spending most of the afternoon, looking for some clue from the man,
- 14:43I decided to go to the cemetery guard. I began to question it,
- 14:48because at the end of everything, I wanted to focus again on my things
- 14:52and the dreams by which that city had arrived. Upon arriving with the vigilante,
- 14:56a tall, dark man with a look of weariness, he told me
- 15:01that I already had the answer to all my questions. And that' s
- 15:05when he quickly started walking, ordering me to follow him. So while we
- 15:09were walking along the banks of that great pantheon, we finally came to a
- 15:15tombstone which we could barely see, because basically it was in terrible condition.
- 15:20And so it was that the man went out through one of the runners and
- 15:24left me alone in front of that tombstone. Looking at the data and years,
- 15:28everything really coincided. It was at that moment that my head began to
- 15:33spin and I wondered what I was really doing with my life. Clearly,
- 15:39my career was about investigating thoroughly the event of a murder. However, I
- 15:45had come very far, for that event had many years of difference. However,
- 15:50I was already on the spot and my instincts decided to start talking to
- 15:56the tombstone. I felt like a complete madman, but I no longer had
- 16:00any choice, so I swore in that tomb to look for the culprit of
- 16:06the man' s murder in exchange for his leaving me alone. I didn
- 16:10' t really know what I was doing or maybe I did, but I
- 16:15didn' t have the courage to face even my own demons. So,
- 16:18after a great account of stories and experiences, I went to my house,
- 16:22took a hot bath and while checking my cell phone, I could observe a
- 16:27large number of missed calls from my parents, so, seeing such a situation,
- 16:33I immediately returned the call to know if everything was in order. That
- 16:38' s when my mother picked up the phone and in a very distressed voice,
- 16:44she began to ask for me what had happened to me. But mostly
- 16:48if I was okay. Confused by all things, I assured my parents that
- 16:53I was well. However, my mother told me that she, in her
- 16:59dreams, had seen me desperately going through a pantheon, which she had in
- 17:03a very confusing and worrying state, since that dream was so real. At
- 17:10that moment I felt a chill over my body and as I looked in the
- 17:15mirror, I could see a very pale tone on my face. So,
- 17:18as I stood at the head of my room, I told him not to
- 17:22worry, that everything was fine, that it was a nightmare. My mother,
- 17:26dissatisfied with my words, told me that the following week she would visit
- 17:32me to make sure everything would be fine, for since my departure from town,
- 17:37things had turned out a little strange, as if someone else were present.
- 17:42It was all very strange. My anguish began to grow, for those
- 17:48sinister demons had not only seized my dreams but also my family, something that
- 17:52definitely did not seem to me. Perhaps in another context or in an aspect
- 17:59of greater maturity, I would not have taken into account the things that had
- 18:03happened since my arrival. However, I was a faithful believer that those sorry
- 18:07souls would not leave me alone until they found a solution. By being able
- 18:14to pool all my savings, I decided immediately to change my apartment. I
- 18:18couldn' t stand living in such an environment anymore, and I was sure
- 18:23that would be the way out of all my problems. But what a surprise.
- 18:27Those blood bodies and laments continued to haunt me in my dreams. I
- 18:33was tired. I stopped attending college and walked away from all the responsibilities that
- 18:37that uncertainty was supposed to do had become a real hell. I really felt
- 18:47that these situations consumed me in life little by little I lost my desire to
- 18:52eat. I was just going through a crisis that made me someone else.
- 18:57These nightmares began to create in me several episodes of anxiety, which I could
- 19:03not control. I called my mother again I told her that it wasn'
- 19:07t my thing to be in this place and that I had thought a lot
- 19:11about going back to town. I didn' t want to worry her any
- 19:15more with the real reason why I wanted to leave. The next day I
- 19:19packed my suitcase, said goodbye to my colleagues and returned home, wishing never
- 19:25again to go through some kind of similar situation. The story I' m
- 19:33going to tell you is a little strange. At first, I didn'
- 19:37t give credit for what was happening to me either. With time and with
- 19:41the calmest mind I realized that there are situations that go beyond our understanding and
- 19:45have no rational explanation. It happens that she' s just graduated from college.
- 19:52It was very difficult for me to get a job. I searched for
- 19:56some time without finding the ideal job in that tireless quest. On one of
- 20:02the platforms on which he was registered. To achieve this, a job proposal
- 20:07came out that I thought was incredible. The ad was looking for a young
- 20:11woman. They were sort of looking for the profile I had. Everything was
- 20:15framed in what I was looking for, even the salary. He was very
- 20:18good. The job proposal was not in Guadalajara. It was offered in the
- 20:23state of michoacán in Morelia. For a while I was wandering around in my
- 20:29room, as if I accepted the job, it was necessary to leave my
- 20:33comfort zone and go live alone to a new place. For me, I
- 20:37didn' t love the idea of leaving my family space, so I didn
- 20:42' t run for office at the time. I left the computer aside and
- 20:45set out to do other activities. It was three days before I went back
- 20:52to the platform. From the beginning I found this ad, strange things began
- 20:57to happen to me. One of them was that I received a notification to
- 21:02my cell phone from the job announcement. When I read it it became very
- 21:07rare to me, as I had applied for other vacancies on that platform,
- 21:11of which I was never answered instead, in this one they insisted on requesting
- 21:15my profile. Again, I read the warning reluctantly. I had already made
- 21:21the determination not to leave Guadalajara and to see it again gave me a hard
- 21:25time. I eliminated the notification without heeding it. Several more days passed.
- 21:32I had already forgotten that possible job until I got the notice again. I
- 21:37don' t know what led me to read it. I stopped for a
- 21:40moment and without thinking the most, I decided to send my data. After
- 21:44all, I had not been told about the many jobs I had sent my
- 21:47information to immediately. They answered me. I was told that I met the
- 21:53requirements for employment if possible. I was asked to introduce myself as soon as
- 21:59possible in a domicile for a personal interview. My attitude suddenly changed. I
- 22:04was excited about the idea of getting to know that city. I could walk
- 22:08and know it from human resources. I was scheduled for the next day at
- 22:1512 noon. I didn' t have much time to pack my bags.
- 22:19I took a few changes of clothes, looked for a bus ticket in Morelia
- 22:25and set out to leave. The next day I replied to the one who
- 22:29had sent me the email that would be present at the interview. On the
- 22:33way to Morelia. I was excited. I didn' t know how that
- 22:38new idea had come about, which completely changed my position of changing residence.
- 22:42I think deep down I liked to leave Guadalajara, as well as to know
- 22:48a new space and culture. When I arrived at the terminal, I didn
- 22:52' t want to take a taxi I still had enough time to get to
- 22:56the interview, so I preferred to walk to get to know a little place.
- 23:00After a while I saw my watch, I realized it was almost time
- 23:03for the agreed work date, so I went to the house. When I
- 23:10arrived immediately, a young man approached me and asked me what corporate I was
- 23:15going to with a lot of education, leading me to the right place.
- 23:18He announced my arrival and soon allowed me to enter the office. I had
- 23:22a pleasant surprise when I was received by a mature man. There was something
- 23:26I couldn' t understand his face in a certain way that made me known.
- 23:32I even asked him if he had ever visited the city of Guadalajara immediately.
- 23:37He replied that he had left, but many years ago with insistence.
- 23:42I told him he seemed familiar, though I didn' t know where or
- 23:48why he listened. He made my comment and began the interview. The man
- 23:52asked me to sit down. In turn, he presented himself as Jorge.
- 23:56He told me that the work consisted of great formalism. He told me in
- 24:02broad terms about the work he was going to do in that place. He
- 24:06shared with me the benefits and the best was housing income aid. I couldn
- 24:12' t believe I found a job like that. He had been searching for
- 24:18the ideal job for several months without achieving it and suddenly this space was opening
- 24:22up. I didn' t doubt it for myself. I told him I
- 24:26' d stay in town. I only asked him to give me a week
- 24:30to organize my things, as well as the search for a rental housing.
- 24:34He showed me the address of a house that was few streets away from the
- 24:38workplace. He told me it was part of the company' s support for
- 24:44foreign workers. She told me to go see her in case I agreed to
- 24:48stay in her. He told me to talk to the office on the phone
- 24:53and one of the employees would handle the rest of the paperwork. Jorge said
- 24:59good- bye with a handshake at the moment when I felt a strange chill
- 25:03gripped my body, perhaps because the man was with his very icy hand.
- 25:11I thought it was very strange. It wasn' t winter time yet.
- 25:15The weather was warm, but I didn' t care. The house housing
- 25:18workers from other States was very close to the workplace. I really liked getting
- 25:26to that space because it was a house with architecture from the time of the
- 25:30porphyriato. She was really an old house, very well taken care of.
- 25:34When I entered the compound, a friendly- looking old woman greeted me,
- 25:38pointed out my room and put herself at my command. I turned back to
- 25:45see the woman Her face seemed familiar to me. I headed to my room
- 25:51in the hallway. I met a young man who immediately welcomed me. He
- 25:55told me he was from Guadalajara, too. I was puzzled when he told
- 26:00me he was originally from the same city as me. If we had barely
- 26:04crossed a word. He made it clear to me that it was human resources,
- 26:08so he had my technical file and he himself had scheduled the appointment.
- 26:12I didn' t want to go back to Guadalajara for any more belongings.
- 26:17I thought I could buy some clothes to complete my wardrobe. I thought it
- 26:22best to walk the streets of the city to adapt to the place sooner.
- 26:26During my journey I saw a construction that caught my attention in the parish of
- 26:32San José. I didn' t have anything special, but I liked it.
- 26:37I sat on a bench to rest from my long walk and be able
- 26:41to enjoy the architecture of the place. I cannot deny that, although the
- 26:45city was beautiful, I missed my family and my daily life in Guadalajara.
- 26:51But, as I told you before, it was difficult to find a decent
- 26:56job in my hometown. I started working on a Monday and all at the
- 27:00beginning pine. It was difficult to adapt to a specific way of working,
- 27:03so it took a long time to perform the files correctly. After I was
- 27:08able to finish my activities, it was already late at night. I was
- 27:15not really worried about delaying because the house was so close to such a fate
- 27:19that it allowed me to pass through the parish of St Joseph when it was
- 27:23already lit up. I was struck by a group of people gathering around a
- 27:29young man, who explained the traditional legends of this city. I approached as
- 27:36I exhibited one of them. Then I realized it was part of a tour
- 27:38that I hadn' t agreed to. A young man who was among the
- 27:45people explained to me what the tram trip consisted of and if he wanted to
- 27:49take it, it was necessary to pay the ticket at the post on Avenida
- 27:53Madero. I retired from the group of people when I realized that I had
- 27:59not paid a ticket to listen to legends. I went back to the bench.
- 28:03The same young man approached me. He told me if he wanted to,
- 28:07he could tell me every single story in town. He knew it perfectly,
- 28:11as he was also a tourist guide, but it would be another time,
- 28:15because at that time it was necessary to continue on the tram to another
- 28:19recognized place of Morelia. I replied that it was not necessary, but as
- 28:26every day I went to that place, we continued to see each other little
- 28:32by little we became great friends. After he finished his tour, he waited
- 28:34for me at the parish park. One day I got out later than usual
- 28:40from work. My friend was still waiting for me. I told her I
- 28:44wouldn' t stay because I was tired. He wanted to accompany me to
- 28:48the house where I was staying. As we approach the house. My friend
- 28:52' s face got very serious. When we were outside the house, he
- 28:57asked me if it was true that I saw he lived there. Naturally,
- 29:00I said yes. I even invited him to pass, which he flatly refused.
- 29:07He said good- bye in a hurry and left for several days.
- 29:11I stopped seeing my friend for a while. After working on a bench in
- 29:15the Temple of St Joseph, he did not appear. I was a little
- 29:19worried about his absence and he wouldn' t answer my messages and calls.
- 29:25After several days, I thought I' d never see him again until the
- 29:29least thought- out day was there right away. I asked him what had
- 29:33happened to him, because I had not seen him. He told me he
- 29:37had some setbacks. I understood that I had occupations and that I didn'
- 29:44t have to burden him with my questions, but I noticed it strangely.
- 29:47I told him if anything happened to him, he told me he didn'
- 29:51t mean to bother him. However, he knew something was wrong with him,
- 29:56as he was extremely nervous. He gave me a lot of thought before
- 30:02he dared to tell me it was very strange that I was living in that
- 30:06house. This was a very old house, which had remained vacant. No
- 30:12one before I had inhabited it. He asked me how I had found the
- 30:17owner of that place, because he was supposedly dead and there were no relatives
- 30:22claiming the property. I explained to him that maybe he was confused. I
- 30:27had been hired by a man, who told me that the house belonged to
- 30:32his family, but he had never used it, as he has another house
- 30:36in another home. My friend was very thoughtful. He asked me what was
- 30:41the name of the person who hired me. I told him it was Jorge,
- 30:47so he replied that I didn' t know him, but that there
- 30:49was something strange about the house. He became very serious and told me to
- 30:55sit on a bench and began to tell me a story many years ago in
- 30:59which a man named Cayetano was in love with a woman named Gertrudis. After
- 31:07a while of being boyfriends, they married and went to live in that house
- 31:11where there is currently a strange illness. It hurt Gertrudis. At that time,
- 31:18medicine was not very advanced. The man did everything in his power to
- 31:22save her life. There are even those who say she went with a witch
- 31:27to help heal her, but there was no power to help her and after
- 31:33a few months of illness, Gertrudis died. The man went crazy. Some
- 31:38people at the time said that from the death of Gertrudis, he began to
- 31:42have erratic behavior. He slept very little. Strange noises were heard already in
- 31:49the morning, the lights remained on throughout the night. After a while he
- 31:56was found dead in his room, with his rerra tied around his neck.
- 32:02He took his own life on the main staircase. It took them days to
- 32:07find her body when Mary, who had been her servant in an act of
- 32:13charity, because he had run her immediately after her wife died, she still
- 32:17kept the key to the house, so, waiting for a long time without
- 32:22anyone opening the door, she entered it. Ever since he came in.
- 32:28He sensed a strong smell of something spoiled was the rotting corpse of Don Cayetano.
- 32:34He immediately informed the relevant authorities to bury him. He was buried in
- 32:39the atrium of the Temple of San Francisco. Before my friend continued his account,
- 32:45I interrupted him to question him, as he knew so much about that
- 32:49house. He answered me that there is a legend about Don Cayetano, so
- 32:53that most of those living in Morelia know her, but when he knew that
- 32:58I was living in him in that house, he dedicated himself to investigating more
- 33:00about that person. Part of the legend is that Don Cayetano' s soul
- 33:07is still wandering in this world. He sought in various ways the way to
- 33:10bring back his beloved and who came to make a pact with the devil.
- 33:15Therefore, he is believed to be paying his debt by not being able to
- 33:19go to the afterlife. All my friend told me was an interesting legend that
- 33:22didn' t understand what it had to do with me. I just asked
- 33:28him that question. I told him I was fine with what he told me,
- 33:31but I couldn' t figure out what he had with me. He
- 33:36explained to me that if I allowed him to go to my house to make
- 33:39sure, if what I had investigated was true, I had no problem.
- 33:43With that I immediately accepted both of us went to the house I live in.
- 33:49When we entered the house, I was aware at that moment of how
- 33:52cold a chill was. He toured both of us. Perhaps from what my
- 33:57friend told me he already had a certain predisposition to what was going on in
- 34:00her. He dedicated himself to going through every room of the house. He
- 34:06asked me why I was living. I told her that Don Jorge had told
- 34:09me that in a few days two more girls would arrive, who were going
- 34:14to join the job and would no longer be alone. He asked me if
- 34:20I had heard strange noises, so I assured him that everything was not right
- 34:25as I had told them. The house was old and very large. It
- 34:30had a central courtyard around it, several rooms, also in the main room,
- 34:35stairs leading to the top. We' re going up. In that
- 34:39part there were fewer rooms because there was a very large living room, but
- 34:45in the background there was a room that connected with other spiral- shaped stairs
- 34:51to the roof. My friend immediately tried to open the door. However,
- 34:53it was locked. Couldn' t open it. We entered the highest part
- 35:00through the reduced stairs. On the roof there was another room, I think
- 35:07it was where they stored all the utensils they didn' t need. It
- 35:12was surprising to realize that I had not given myself the time to check the
- 35:15house, as my room was on the ground floor, whose window facing the
- 35:20street I reduced myself to only use the most essential parts of the house.
- 35:25The roof room was also locked, although most of the rooms were closed.
- 35:32The latter caught my friend' s attention, as with an disarmer he was
- 35:37carrying, he tried to open it. I told him I had no right
- 35:40to do that. The house didn' t belong to me and I think
- 35:45we were trespassing on the owner' s privacy. He didn' t answer
- 35:50anything. On the contrary, he more quickly forced the lock until he managed
- 35:54to open it. It was amazing what we found inside. Everything my friend
- 36:00had told me was true. There was a sort of altar on which the
- 36:04old picture of the couple was found when he married. Although the photograph was
- 36:08in a state greatly deteriorated by humidity, they could see the faces of the
- 36:14two I exhaled a choked scream. My friend worried when he saw the fear
- 36:20on my face. After a few minutes, I explained to him that the
- 36:24man who had hired me looked a lot like the one in the photograph.
- 36:29After so much, to search the house, we realized that it was already
- 36:32too late had darkened. I told my friend that if it was possible for
- 36:37him to sleep in the house, I didn' t want to be alone
- 36:42anymore. After the discovery, I told him that the next day I would
- 36:46go talk to Jorge to explain things to me. If there was clarity in
- 36:51his explanations, I would stay there. If I didn' t get back
- 36:54to my city right away. Strange events took place that night. It rained
- 37:00very hard during the morning. The storm was very strong. There was a
- 37:06moment when a gust of wind opened the window, knocked the vase on the
- 37:09reading table on what I was incorporating from the bed. Water was brought in
- 37:14from the outside. I slipped on the floor because I got up barefoot,
- 37:20closed the window and realized that I had gotten to wet my pajamas. I
- 37:23took another change of clothes and went to the bathroom. There was a moment
- 37:28when I noticed through the crack of the door, in someone' s shadow.
- 37:31I thought my friend had woken up, too. I could see clearly
- 37:36how the shadow headed toward the room. After I came out of the bathroom,
- 37:40I went looking for him, but I couldn' t find him.
- 37:43I went back to the room where he was, but he was deep asleep.
- 37:47I didn' t understand what happened. Suddenly I heard another noise outside
- 37:52the chamber. The storm was still very strong. I thought the wind had
- 37:57opened another window, but I found nothing in r. The dream was gone,
- 38:02so I sat on the bed waiting for the heavy rain to diminish.
- 38:08It was not so for more than an hour he continued I was about to
- 38:14sit down and read a little when suddenly a very loud noise was heard outside.
- 38:19Apparently it was the pole cables they had made short circuit. The transformer
- 38:23was damaged. The house was completely dim. I felt restless. My friend
- 38:30also woke up from the noise. He asked me what was going on.
- 38:34I told him I didn' t know, but we both felt a strange
- 38:38feeling. A noise was heard again in the room. We both turned around
- 38:44to see each other without saying anything. He left the room first. I
- 38:47went out behind him with the lamp on my phone. With difficulty I saw
- 38:52a shadow scurrying down the stairs. We followed her We couldn' t see
- 38:57her anymore. But we heard when the roof room door was closed. It
- 39:02was a long night we couldn' t rest on. When the first rays
- 39:07of the sun began to rise, I sighed relieved already with the clarity of
- 39:13the day. The house felt and looked different. I managed to go to
- 39:16the office. I was going to talk to Jorge, my friend. He
- 39:21accompanied me to the company and retired to rest. When I arrived with the
- 39:25secretary, I asked for him. She told me that Jorge had gone on
- 39:30a trip yesterday and that she didn' t know when he was coming back.
- 39:35I didn' t believe him. However, I had no choice.
- 39:37I went back to the house to pick up my belongings and go to Guadalajara.
- 39:44When I got to her, I found the door to the entrance ajar.
- 39:47I tried to remember, and I was sure I' d shut it
- 39:51down. I entered cautiously. I checked the bottom of the house. Everything
- 39:55was in order. I forgot the incident and started packing my clothes. I
- 40:01was about to retire when I heard a door slammed at the top of the
- 40:06house. I didn' t want to go find out what was going on
- 40:08anymore. I picked up my stuff to get out. When I wanted to
- 40:13open the exit door, I couldn' t. It looked like they had
- 40:15put a key or something in it. I tried desperately to open it,
- 40:21but I didn' t get it. I felt like someone was watching me.
- 40:24I turned back to the bottom. I could hardly see a shadow with
- 40:30bright eyes. I was so scared. I desperately looked for a heavy object
- 40:36to help me hit the lock. I found an iron statuette. With it
- 40:40I hit the plate hard. It was at that moment that I was able
- 40:45to open it and get out of that house. I walked quickly to the
- 40:49park bench. I stayed for a long time, thinking it had happened to
- 40:52me. I didn' t find any explanation. I tried to reach my
- 40:57friend to tell him I was leaving Morelia, but he didn' t answer
- 41:01my calls. It hurt me not to be able to say goodbye to him,
- 41:07but it was no longer possible to stay in that place. So far
- 41:10I can' t understand what happened to me as a child. My family
- 41:17was very attached to the church. I guess they didn' t come to
- 41:22fanaticism, but we were certainly far from being an average Catholic to be completely
- 41:29honest. That didn' t bother me at all, probably because I was
- 41:34too young to question the beliefs of the people who brought me into this world.
- 41:37If they said it was real, I had no reason to contradict them.
- 41:43After all, they just wanted the best for me. In addition,
- 41:46I liked the children' s camps, hearing about the love and understanding of
- 41:52a being who, although unable to see me, cared for every danger without
- 41:55mentioning that my family was too close. As a grown- up. I
- 42:00can' t say for sure if the glue that held my family together was
- 42:06that devotion, but I know that as a child. If I thought it
- 42:08was that and therefore thanked God for that at every opportunity I had to pray,
- 42:14I guess my devotion was as much as I could have a seven-
- 42:19year- old girl. The truth did not fully understand him and I had
- 42:22never read beyond what I had been asked to read in the Bible and the
- 42:27interpretation I gave him was exactly what the adults around me told me it meant.
- 42:34I knew if I didn' t believe or respect the scriptures, I
- 42:37could go to Hell, but that didn' t bother me. I was
- 42:39a devout Catholic girl who respected all that simply for my love, for God
- 42:45' s sake, and I would have loved it to continue that way.
- 42:51However, life sometimes has a very strange way of twisting and destroying your dreams
- 42:54and hopes. It all started one Sunday afternoon after church, we were at
- 43:01my grandmother' s house. I watched the television in his room, sitting
- 43:07on the floor, the music of my favorite cartoon, ringing through the room
- 43:10completely distracted me from all those images of Christ crucified, pictures of the Virgin
- 43:15of Guadalupe and some photographs of the Pope. I had grown up all my
- 43:22life surrounded by sacred art, so it didn' t make me any more
- 43:25uncomfortable when I saw it. I was at it when, all of a
- 43:30sudden, a strong blow behind me made me jump and turn. My uncles
- 43:34were trying to bring into the room a great plaster Christ nailed to his cross.
- 43:38The crimson painting of the crown of thorns and nails in his hands looked
- 43:43very realistic to anyone' s eyes. It looked so fresh that if you
- 43:47could touch it, you' d get your fingers stained. His face also
- 43:52looked moderately realistic, but still left you that feeling that he was a plaster
- 43:58figure that looked a lot like people. His eyelashes looked pretty real. I
- 44:04also believe that this was the first time in my life that I felt a
- 44:07little uncomfortable before the figure of a crucified Christ. Maybe it was because I
- 44:10' d never seen one so big and so close. The largest one belonged
- 44:15to the church in the city centre. However, he was hung high enough
- 44:22to appreciate his size well. Quite the opposite of this one- and-
- 44:28a- half metre Christ who was now hanging on the wall of my grandmother
- 44:31' s living room, I had the strange feeling that those shiny eyes were
- 44:37staring at me all the time, so when everyone came out of the living
- 44:40room, I turned off the TV and left there too my grandmother said that
- 44:45someone threw it in the trash. He was on the corner of a street
- 44:49along with other garbage bags, just there waiting for someone to pick him up
- 44:53and, like a good Catholic, leaving him on the street like anything,
- 44:58would be a mortal sin. It took about a month and a half for
- 45:02the truly gruesome to begin. All that time I avoided that figure at all
- 45:07costs. The discomfort it caused me was totally irrational and to tell my family.
- 45:15It was totally crazy to me. That afternoon we went to my grandmother
- 45:20' s house. My mom was one of those kind of mothers who always
- 45:23wanted to highlight the achievements of her children, so when I was selected as
- 45:29a finalist at my school' s math tournament she summoned the whole family to
- 45:32my grandmother' s house to announce it. Everyone congratulated me and my grandmother
- 45:37told me that she would make a special prayer for me so that God would
- 45:42help me win the tournament right away. He brought me before the Great Christ
- 45:46to ask for me. We set out before him and began with prayer.
- 45:51For the first time since I was using reason, I was just repeating what
- 45:54my grandmother was saying. I was so uncomfortable that I just wanted it to
- 46:00end nothing so I could leave from there when, suddenly, the voice of
- 46:04one of my grandmother' s friends interrupted our prayer. However, my grandmother
- 46:07told me to pray a father of ours before I got up. After telling
- 46:13me that he got up and went to receive his friend I closed my eyes
- 46:19and began to pray the parents, ours and birds weary that I lacked when
- 46:22suddenly I heard that classic sound of someone wanting to call your attention a kind
- 46:29of chicheo that encouraged me to turn where I came from, except that in
- 46:34that chicheo it did not come from the sides or behind me, it did
- 46:37not even resemble the voice of any of my uncles or cousins. This chicheo
- 46:40came from above me, specifically from that most incredulous plaster Christ that I opened
- 46:47my eyes. I really didn' t expect to find anything but the static
- 46:52plaster figure in its original place and position. However, my belief was far
- 46:58removed from what I actually saw or he was looking at me, as they
- 47:04hear it, rather than looking in pain and sorrow at me his head was
- 47:07turning towards me. What he still kept was that perpetual look of suffering.
- 47:14In fact, I' d dare say she looked even more hurtful. I
- 47:19was petrified by fear. That thing wasn' t human, it was plaster
- 47:23and yet. He was there looking at me moving my head around, like
- 47:29knowing what was happening. He tried to move his hands and feet to free
- 47:35himself from his crucifixion. I could even see some drops of blood falling on
- 47:38the altar that my grandmother had prepared exclusively for him. As soon as I
- 47:45noticed that, a mute scream came out of me. I tried to scream
- 47:49for my mother, but there wasn' t enough air in my lungs.
- 47:52When my body started coming out of its initial shock I could hear that he
- 47:58was crying and I think he was saying something that I just couldn' t
- 48:02understand because of the panic he was still having. I got up and ran
- 48:06out of the room still with tears in my eyes. I told my mother,
- 48:08but no one believed me. I even think my grandmother got upset with
- 48:14me. He told me that the Christ of the hall was a holy figure
- 48:17and therefore no demon could possess it. However, my insistence was such that
- 48:22my whole family accompanied me to the room to see that what I had seen
- 48:27was nothing more than the strong imagination of a little faith girl and told and
- 48:31made that the Christ of Yeso was only there in his original position, without
- 48:36blood dripping from his punctured sores, with nails or real tears, draining from
- 48:42his face the truth I did not know how to defend myself to what all
- 48:46present were seeing. I knew that what I had seen was real, but
- 48:52I had no proof to show, so I just kept quiet and tried to
- 48:57avoid that figure at all costs. During it my stay at grandma' s
- 49:00house, and that continued to happen every time I visited my grandmother, the
- 49:07house where I had had my happiest memories and probably where I had considered a
- 49:10second home had quickly become the worst torture in the world. I was always
- 49:19serious and sad when we were there constantly asking my parents how long before we
- 49:25could go home. And I think this was starting to fracture the great,
- 49:30healthy relationship I had with my grandmother. The latter hurt a lot, but
- 49:35it was more my fear and impotence that I would not believe what I had
- 49:38seen that day, which kept me firm to wanting to stay at my grandmother
- 49:44' s house for a short time until one day my worst nightmare came true.
- 49:50My parents would be two days away for the wedding of one of my
- 49:53dad' s friends, so, after asking some relatives where I could stay,
- 49:58my parents more decided that the best place was my grandmother' s house,
- 50:01because my school wasn' t far from there and in the unlikely case
- 50:06that my grandmother forgot to pick me up, I could walk on my own.
- 50:12Besides, I think my grandmother always asked for them I was the most
- 50:15attached granddaughter to her, and I really had the desire that that I don
- 50:21' t know how to lose. The first day was Friday afternoon. My
- 50:24grandmother was very happy. He told me that if I wanted to watch TV
- 50:29while preparing something special for me to eat, but for several months I had
- 50:34been avoiding the room as if it were radioactive. And the worst part was,
- 50:37it wasn' t my first time staying with my grandmother. I knew
- 50:40that when the night came I would have to sleep on that old sofa bed
- 50:45in the living room and that made me drop one of the sporadic tears because
- 50:50of the fear this caused me, I just told my grandmother that I didn
- 50:54' t want to watch TV and that I preferred to be with her.
- 50:57It wasn' t a lie. I loved my grandmother and she really seemed
- 51:01to try to get our relationship back on track and I would dare say not
- 51:07to take off from her. Basically, that whole day helped to heal her.
- 51:10A little bit he taught me how to make chocolate cake and his secret
- 51:15recipe for baked chicken, and when it started to get dark, I had
- 51:21the courage to ask him not to let me sleep in the living room.
- 51:23I didn' t tell her I was afraid of her plaster Christ, but
- 51:27if I told her that I was very afraid of sleeping alone, she thought
- 51:31about it for a moment and replied that there was no problem, that we
- 51:36might well just extend some blankets on the floor of her room and I could
- 51:40sleep with her until my parents returned on Sunday from their journey. I smiled
- 51:45for the happiness that caused me. I thought everything was fixed as long as
- 51:51my grandmother was present that thing, and no one else could harm me,
- 51:57but I was wrong. The first night my grandmother, she kept her promise
- 52:02and made me a comfortable place to sleep in her room with an old petate
- 52:07that she had kept around and several blankets so it wouldn' t be cold
- 52:12even since she didn' t want to watch TV, she lent me one
- 52:16of her favorite books about detectives to entertain me, if I wasn' t
- 52:21sleepy yet when she fell asleep. I think that no book had liked me
- 52:25as much as I liked that one so much that I lost track of time
- 52:30and stayed reading it until after midnight and maybe I didn' t even realize
- 52:35the time of not being because a noise I heard in the room at first
- 52:39didn' t matter. The door was locked already although my grandmother' s
- 52:44room was relatively close to the room, I doubted that he could go as
- 52:49far as I was. He recalled that the last time he had seen him
- 52:52he had not been able to escape his crucifixion. That' s when I
- 52:58looked at my grandmother' s alarm clock and saw that it was just over
- 53:01midnight I wasn' t sleepy yet, so I tried to keep reading.
- 53:07However, a couple of seconds later I heard footsteps down the hall. They
- 53:12were not common steps. I mean, they didn' t look like a
- 53:15person' s shoes. These steps sounded like a sermic, crashing into the
- 53:21marble floor of my grandmother' s house. My heart began to beat very
- 53:24hard something inside me. I knew perfectly well what I was wandering around the
- 53:30house at that time and the worst thing was that every second I was passing
- 53:36seemed to be getting closer and closer to my grandmother' s room. I
- 53:39closed the book, turned off my grandmother' s reading flashlight and covered myself
- 53:44completely, as if all those blankets could protect me from something. But he
- 53:49still didn' t hear coming any closer. I didn' t know if
- 53:53I should try to wake my grandmother up, although I quickly got rid of
- 53:59that idea, thinking that it might happen exactly the time before, when I
- 54:05finally gathered enough courage to remove the blankets from my face I could notice something
- 54:09very frightening. There was someone or something outside the room. He could see
- 54:14his feet obstructing the passage of light from the hallway through the crack of the
- 54:17door. And that was not the worst, because immediately the door knob began
- 54:21to turn to open. I don' t know if it was an adrenaline
- 54:27rush or just my survival instinct in action, but I ran to the door.
- 54:31I reloaded my entire body to keep it from opening. I knew that
- 54:35the door was not safe and that my grandmother slept very deeply. He would
- 54:40hardly wake up unless he heard a loud noise. That thing started pushing the
- 54:47door. I could hear him crying. He didn' t beg me to
- 54:52let him in and he didn' t say a word either. I stood
- 54:55firm at the door fighting because I couldn' t open. I don'
- 55:01t remember exactly when he stopped, but if I remember that, even though
- 55:05I had already stopped pushing the door, I didn' t dare to get
- 55:09away and at some point in the morning I fell asleep. My grandmother woke
- 55:14me up when the first rays of the sun began to come out. He
- 55:17asked me why I was sleeping at the door and I really didn' t
- 55:22know what to answer. I just shrugged and refused with my head, so
- 55:25my grandmother told me that maybe I was sleepwalking. So maybe in the middle
- 55:31of the night I got up, tried to open the door and, as
- 55:36I couldn' t, ended up falling asleep there and I just agreed with
- 55:40her. We spent all that Saturday together. I was trying to forget about
- 55:45what happened in the morning. I really wanted to convince myself that that was
- 55:51just a dream. After all, in my dreams I always used to be
- 55:55braver than I was in real life, so maybe what Grandma had said to
- 55:59me was true. I had a bad dream and woke up sleepwalking and waking
- 56:05up at the door had only encouraged my imagination. When the night came,
- 56:10I lay down without any distraction, with the sole intention of falling asleep as
- 56:15quickly as possible. After all my parents would come back on Sunday afternoon and
- 56:20I could go back to the security of my room. I tried until I
- 56:24finally couldn' t make it I fell asleep. However, something woke me
- 56:29up around 11: 30 p m. It wasn' t strange steps or
- 56:35noises. They were just a strong desire to go to the bathroom. I
- 56:38tried to ignore it. I didn' t want to go out, because
- 56:44to go to the bathroom I would have to go through the living room and
- 56:49that wasn' t something I was willing to do. It took several minutes
- 56:52for those who wanted to urinate to grow more. For a moment I considered
- 56:55the possibility of bathing myself, but it just turned out Hultaba disgusting to sleep
- 57:00with wet pajamas and cause those problems to my grandmother. I got up and
- 57:07slowly opened the door to the room. I looked up at both ends of
- 57:10the hall. I doubted a little bit, but I really thought it was
- 57:15a matter of minutes to get on me. I walked slowly down the hall
- 57:19and stopped at the arch of the living room door. The light in the
- 57:22hallway lit the room dimly. The Christ of Plaster was still there. He
- 57:29didn' t seem to have the ability to move or hurt. I threw
- 57:34a sigh before starting to run as fast as my legs allowed me to at
- 57:37the same time as I prayed out loud in the hope that that would become
- 57:42some kind of shield of protection. I got to the bathroom and locked the
- 57:46door safely. My heart was beating so hard that I thought it would get
- 57:51out of my chest. I made my needs and pulled the chain. I
- 57:55was so afraid to go back out. I even considered the idea of staying
- 57:59in the bathroom to sleep and blaming my sleepwalking. However, the more the
- 58:05minutes passed and more cold air entered through the bathroom window. I was telling
- 58:09myself it was best to come back. After all, I had not heard
- 58:14anything and when I had passed him, he had not moved. I even
- 58:19began to tell myself that maybe it had been my imagination and I was only
- 58:23being afraid of a plaster Christ who had nothing supernatural. I took the lock
- 58:29off the door and walked out. I walked cautiously to the room. From
- 58:34there you couldn' t see that gigantic cross. I started with my prayer
- 58:38and set out to run again and not stop until I was in the room
- 58:43with my grandmother. I set out to do it. I was about halfway
- 58:46through the room. A cold hand grabbed me by the ankle making me fall
- 58:52on the carpet. I instinctively turned to the cross. This one was empty
- 58:58and that terrifying plaster Christ was tucked under a table. I was crying,
- 59:02and I was suffering by the hand of Plassus I was pressing my ankle tightly.
- 59:07I screamed with all my might as I tried to free myself. I
- 59:10didn' t understand what was going on and I finally managed to get rid
- 59:15of her hand. I got up and tried to run again, but I
- 59:20bumped into my grandmother because of my screams. I thought you' d tell
- 59:23me there was nothing there or that it was all part of my imagination.
- 59:28But instead, my grandmother was petrified by seeing that plaster Christ climb back to
- 59:31his wooden cross and return to his original position. He quickly grabbed me by
- 59:39the arm, took me to the room and closed the door using a chair
- 59:44as a tranch. He started praying the rest of the night, but we
- 59:47didn' t hear anything anymore. When the first rays of them crossed through
- 59:52the window, my grandmother still wouldn' t let me out. I think
- 59:55we stayed in the room until my parents arrived in the afternoon and my grandmother
- 1:00:00told them all the truth. They didn' t believe him, he noticed
- 1:00:05by their faces, but to please her they only helped him to get off
- 1:00:09the wall and because of my grandmother' s wishes, they beat him with
- 1:00:14a stake, until everything was reduced to rubble. Over the years that story
- 1:00:16only became a subject of conversation between me and my grandmother. I guess it
- 1:00:22kind of ended up bringing us closer together. I' ll never know what
- 1:00:27that thing was or if anyone could believe my story. I only know that
- 1:00:30since that day, if I believe in God, but I will never sink
- 1:00:36again before a Christ of plaster Tecamachalco is a small municipality located to the south
- 1:00:45of the city of Puebla, which, since I have used reason, has
- 1:00:51been a place of legends, stories and supernatural experiences lived by the inhabitants.
- 1:00:57It is a place surrounded by hills with very few dull inhabitants, which until
- 1:01:00now is living an expansion of establishments and the displacement of new people. But
- 1:01:06when I was little, all people knew each other. There were no people
- 1:01:12outside the city, and that is why many of the stories I will tell
- 1:01:15them I was able to confirm from my own experience. One of the experiences,
- 1:01:21which I consider to be the strongest, was when I was in high
- 1:01:24school. I was in my second year. Many of my companions were walking
- 1:01:30from their homes to the institution because there was not as much crime as there
- 1:01:35is today and the parents were confident that we would leave alone. Three of
- 1:01:40my companions lived in the same colony, which caused them to leave and return
- 1:01:45together in the mornings and evenings, sometimes walking by transport. One day,
- 1:01:52when we arrived at school, those same three companions were impressed by what had
- 1:01:57happened to them on the way through the nhar tell them that when they were
- 1:02:01walking, they heard steps behind them, first very close and then a little
- 1:02:07further away. Besides that the morning sun allowed them to see their silhouettes in
- 1:02:10the shade, but they were sure that there were times when they saw an
- 1:02:15extra shadow very close to them did not give importance and followed their path normally.
- 1:02:22In the middle of the road is a relatively large square. The municipality
- 1:02:29government did it to displace the traders of Tianguis, as this place was occupied
- 1:02:35by the merchants below. There were small rooms that occupied as cellars for their
- 1:02:40products, because my companions were passing by, when suddenly they caught a lot
- 1:02:46of attention a quite strong smell. They said that they had never heard anything
- 1:02:52like it and that it was interesting for them to come down and see what
- 1:02:54they could do. So, on the other day of school, they brought
- 1:02:59a rechargeable hand lamp and put it in the classroom during the course of the
- 1:03:04day so that, leaving, they could go and explore where that smell came
- 1:03:07from. Many of those who told us were not doing anything strange to us
- 1:03:14all the clues of what I could do. On the contrary, we were
- 1:03:17very interested and motivated them to go to the place and the next day they
- 1:03:22would talk to us, because the next morning we saw our companions a little
- 1:03:29weird. They were usually very extroverted, so I decided to approach them and
- 1:03:36ask them they looked very nervous and unwilling to talk, but following the thread
- 1:03:39of what had happened to them. They told me that they came to the
- 1:03:43place leaving school and that when they got to the place where the smell came
- 1:03:47out, it was much more intense, but that when they looked through a
- 1:03:52hole there was a little light. In the darkness the light came from candles.
- 1:03:55That' s what motivated them a little bit more to enter. When
- 1:04:00they went down and began to do the exploration, they realized that the candles
- 1:04:04were almost all over the small room and that in the end they could appreciate
- 1:04:10a small bed with things on it. But when pointing at the light,
- 1:04:13it wasn' t a simple thing, it was a dead person. Hence
- 1:04:18the bad smell. One of them was able to record with his phone,
- 1:04:24but I remember that the camera of our devices was not very good at the
- 1:04:29time we were in place. I swear that image so far I have not
- 1:04:32stopped remembering it and that it caused nightmares for many years. Despite the poor
- 1:04:39quality, it could clearly be seen that he was a man and was in
- 1:04:43very bad condition. They told me that they came out as quickly as possible,
- 1:04:49obviously very frightened and in the same way they ran to one' s
- 1:04:54house and told their dad that for a moment he doubted the truth until he
- 1:04:59showed the same image as me. Dad called the police and nothing was heard
- 1:05:03about it anymore. It wasn' t determined because that man was dead or
- 1:05:09that it was the weird thing. That' s making my adult age aware,
- 1:05:14is that if the candles were still lit, it' s because someone
- 1:05:17else was taking care of the body. Maybe it was a cult. I
- 1:05:20don' t know. It is something that to date continues to cause me
- 1:05:25a lot of intrigue and chills. Another of my experiences was in the former
- 1:05:30Franciscan convent. It is an enigmatic and representative site of the municipality, as
- 1:05:36it leads the population from the top of the hill slope. Currently the property
- 1:05:42is used for religious celebrations of Catholicism. You hear a lot of stories about
- 1:05:48the site to the point where if you visit it, it' s not
- 1:05:53about going to mass or something, but because it causes you some intrigue.
- 1:05:56The way it looks on the outside and inside in ode schools. Very common
- 1:06:00that we were asked to visit the place, since it is the only historical
- 1:06:03place with which we have or that is accessible to us. There are many
- 1:06:09research excursions, but these do not give them guides or someone who knows only
- 1:06:15you and your companions walking around the back. I must confess that since I
- 1:06:19was a child I have been very afraid of the religious images that are full
- 1:06:25of suffering and pain, because the main image of this convent is the image
- 1:06:30of the Saint, the Lord of the Descent. This figure as far as
- 1:06:35the tiredness and fainting of Jesus is depicted on the way to his crucifixion.
- 1:06:41The image is located right in the middle of the altar. I come from
- 1:06:45a Catholic family, like many in the municipality, and the most opportune thing
- 1:06:49we were taught was that if we visited a church, we had to go
- 1:06:55as far in front as one could persignate and sink to pray or give.
- 1:06:59Thank you. Knowing this, at school we were asked to make a video
- 1:07:03about the history and paintings that are painted in the main vault of the building.
- 1:07:11As I mentioned in the previous story, my people were very safe and
- 1:07:15our parents let us go to many places alone. This is how we arrived
- 1:07:19three companions and I must say that that day was very cloudy and cold and
- 1:07:26there were no people around. Except for the guard, we went in with
- 1:07:30a little fear for everything that was told. As I said, as we
- 1:07:35came from Catholic families, we went across the street so we could pray a
- 1:07:42little bit and start our project. From that moment on, I knew that
- 1:07:45something was very strange, because as I was stuck on the bench, I
- 1:07:49could see that right in front of me was the image of that saint who
- 1:07:55venerates the truth. I was getting a little uncomfortable, because it is very
- 1:07:58strong to see her from the wounds and the expression of her face, but
- 1:08:01at the same time it provoked me to continue seeing her carefully until I saw
- 1:08:06clearly that she moved her eyes and eyelids. I' m so scared.
- 1:08:11Instead of screaming, I put my hands on my face. My colleagues saw
- 1:08:15me and asked me if I was okay with what I said yes. I
- 1:08:19didn' t want to tell you what I' d seen because you wouldn
- 1:08:25' t believe me and you' d make fun of me out of fear.
- 1:08:27We started to tour and managed to record some shots of the entrance inside
- 1:08:31the church and then we headed to the backyard, which is also very scary
- 1:08:36because of the way it looks and above all its loneliness. In the middle
- 1:08:42is a small fountain and to its surroundings several corridors with radiant ruins, besides
- 1:08:47that at that time there was a very old photo of a friar placed inside
- 1:08:51an equally old wooden frame nailed to the wall with a rusty nail. They
- 1:09:00' d go around the place always together, trying not to separate us.
- 1:09:03We felt that the vibrating of the place became heavy, it was a very
- 1:09:08difficult environment to describe, but even the skin stood up to you. We
- 1:09:13didn' t say anything about it, because we thought it was only our
- 1:09:17imagination, that it was the product of fear because of the stories that were
- 1:09:24being collected from people already to the bottom, in the part where you are
- 1:09:28not allowed to pass, we realized that the gate of what appeared to be
- 1:09:31a deep tunnel was open. There really wasn' t a ray of light
- 1:09:34coming to that place. My colleagues and I remember that that was possibly one
- 1:09:41of the tunnels of the stories. It is said that in this convent there
- 1:09:45are three underground tunnels that connect to other convents of the State of Puebla.
- 1:09:51One of them connects with the convent located in which Cholac. The other says
- 1:09:56he passes through small villages until he reaches a church n UAs. But the
- 1:10:00most important one is connected to the episcopal palace of the Cathedral of the City
- 1:10:05of Puebla. As curious good people, we noticed that none of the managers
- 1:10:11were nearby to be able to explore calmly and without being able to catch our
- 1:10:15attention or even run away. So we agreed that if someone wanted to come
- 1:10:20in, others should stay out to see that no one would discover us.
- 1:10:26Peter and I decided we wanted to come in. Besides, because the lamp
- 1:10:30of our cell phones were the strongest to be able to see in the darkness,
- 1:10:34while Patti and Jesus would stay outside. I remember putting in a hand
- 1:10:40to see more or less how the environment was and it felt too cold,
- 1:10:45much more than normal from the weather outside. Besides, we were thinking about
- 1:10:49whether to go in or not. Peter took the initiative, lit the flashlight
- 1:10:55on his cell phone and began walking through the dark tunnel. It scared me
- 1:10:59off I ran because I had already left a good stretch behind. We began
- 1:11:04to explore as far as our vision allowed us and the place felt very strange.
- 1:11:11Throughout the tour it was perceived to be very humid, as if it
- 1:11:15were a cave full of water. The walls were viscous as we kept walking.
- 1:11:21It took a little work to breathe, the signal was being cut off
- 1:11:27for obvious reasons, but what impressed us was when the flashlights didn' t
- 1:11:31work for us or were deactivated for no reason. Already at that point I
- 1:11:34asked Peter to please stop that there was no way to follow through on all
- 1:11:39the circumstances I mentioned earlier and that I was having a hard time breathing.
- 1:11:45The truth is we didn' t know where we were headed anymore and if
- 1:11:49we were going to find something so we decided to see around us. If
- 1:11:55we could collect any evidence that we were there, we looked and a little
- 1:12:01later there was a kind of signal too old. It wasn' t very
- 1:12:05clear, but it was enough to tell that we were there, where at
- 1:12:10least none of our age or school had already been. When we returned to
- 1:12:15the same path, we swore that we had been given an eternity, as
- 1:12:20if we had traveled miles, and that there were stretches in which we felt
- 1:12:26as if we were drifting away. It was impossible, because we always kept
- 1:12:29in a straight line and when we had the lights, we didn' t
- 1:12:33see any other way. When we go out. It became much more chilling,
- 1:12:39as it was getting darker and my friends, who had stayed outside,
- 1:12:43were very worried. We asked them why they were so distressed. If it
- 1:12:48was just a couple of minutes. Peter and I figured it was only like
- 1:12:5330 minutes. Very confused and believing that we were playing a stammering joke when
- 1:13:00we were told no, that it had taken about two hours. We did
- 1:13:05not want to believe what they said, but it was evident from the sunset
- 1:13:09and as it was too late, we left as soon as possible to go
- 1:13:14home. Of course, Peter took away the rusty signal we met at night.
- 1:13:20I was very restless and had fragments of moments I lived inside the tunnel,
- 1:13:26but there were moments in which I remembered how I saw Peter against the
- 1:13:30light of the lamp but that there was a shadow behind him. It caused
- 1:13:33me a lot of fear and I remember fighting to wake up. But what
- 1:13:38was my surprise that, when I opened my eyes at once, I experienced
- 1:13:43for the first time the paralysis of the dream of only retelling them. My
- 1:13:47skin' s gnashing,' cause it was a lot of coincidences. If
- 1:13:50you can call them that, I remember lying down and not having the chance
- 1:13:57to move any of my limbs on my own. It was an unmatched panic.
- 1:14:01Next to my bed was an armchair as I tried to move. Inside
- 1:14:05my paralysis, I saw how a lump of black shadow was there I'
- 1:14:12m not saying that I tried to do something that just got up from her
- 1:14:15presence. It didn' t make me feel safe when I closed my eyes,
- 1:14:20I could have quick memories of my loved ones. I don' t
- 1:14:24know why I thought of them. At that moment I began to cry desperately.
- 1:14:29I didn' t know if I could wake you up, if I
- 1:14:32could move. The weird thing is that when I opened my eyes, I
- 1:14:36saw again as that entity that was sitting, standing and leaving I swear that
- 1:14:42at that moment was when I was starting to recover my movements. I didn
- 1:14:46' t want to tell my mom anything about what happened the night or the
- 1:14:50day before. So I usually went to high school. I met my friends
- 1:14:56in the classroom with whom I had gone and they told me that they had
- 1:15:00not been able to sleep because of nightmares, which at that point I had
- 1:15:03difficulty believing, because they were a sum of coincidences until we realized that Pedro
- 1:15:09did not reach school. The truth is, I did get a chill,
- 1:15:15but I tried not to think about it so as not to suggest how the
- 1:15:19day was going on. The social worker came in to give the proof to
- 1:15:24the class teachers. I asked the professor in turn why Peter had not attended
- 1:15:30classes, to which he replied that the permit said that because he had a
- 1:15:33strong temperature, but that he said no more. Indeed, at that time
- 1:15:41he was more than scared. But I didn' t want to make a
- 1:15:45fuss, as my other friends seemed very normal to the subject. It was
- 1:15:49like three days and Pedro still didn' t go to school, so,
- 1:15:54going out, I went to look for him at his house to see what
- 1:15:58was going on I touched and his mom opened me up. She already knew
- 1:16:00me, so, without asking any more, she told me that if I
- 1:16:04was going to know how Pedro was, I said yes. She told me
- 1:16:10that she was very worried because she had been feverish for a long time and
- 1:16:15that he looked very weak, that what she only stopped for was to be
- 1:16:18able to do her needs and that, as much as the doctor injected her
- 1:16:23treatment, she saw no improvement in it. I went to his room and
- 1:16:27in truth I saw him very sick. I sat on the edge of his
- 1:16:30bed and opened my eyes. We talked for a while and he brought up
- 1:16:34the subject of when we entered the convent tunnel. He told me that from
- 1:16:39that day he had had many nightmares and dreamed of that place constantly and that
- 1:16:45among the delusions of the disease he felt a presence in his room and that
- 1:16:49even he saw a black shadow that was in his room. My mouth felt
- 1:16:55dry because of what he told me and I also told him what had happened
- 1:16:58to me that year. Same night I only saw his face that was very
- 1:17:03scared. I went home in great fear, but also very puzzled by what
- 1:17:09was going on. I didn' t understand anything and even there were times
- 1:17:14when I felt very skeptical about the subject. I got home and my mom
- 1:17:17asked me why it took me so long to get there if my time of
- 1:17:21departure had already passed. When I was going up the stairs. I couldn
- 1:17:27' t help but get down to tell him what had happened and what was
- 1:17:31happening to Peter. My mom' s not much of a believer in the
- 1:17:35issues, but at the time she told me something bad could have come from
- 1:17:41that place. I went back to Pedro' s house, accompanied by my
- 1:17:45mom, so I could tell her what we had done. My friend'
- 1:17:47s mom reacted the same way my mom did, so they decided to take
- 1:17:53us to a lady in town who was doing clean. When we entered,
- 1:17:57we explained to the healer what had stopped and what happened. After entering the
- 1:18:02tunnel, he told us that my friend and I were carrying a very heavy
- 1:18:08energy. She started making me the famous clean with a rough egg and an
- 1:18:13oil, but when she broke the egg she saw a lot of black secretion.
- 1:18:15In fact, the color of the egg wasn' t even noticeable,
- 1:18:20but when it was my friend' s turn, he said he couldn'
- 1:18:25t clean it for all the burden he had had, but he was going
- 1:18:29to try anyway. When he finished, he broke the egg and not only
- 1:18:33did the same black secretion come out, but they came out like larvae.
- 1:18:39It was totally shocking. The healer explained to our mothers that at the time
- 1:18:45we got in there we were charged with energy and that that energy might not
- 1:18:49come from a deceased person, but from several, since it was not known
- 1:18:55exactly how many dead there were between the corridors of that tunnel with the things
- 1:18:59they were doing there in ancient times. The fact was that there were dark
- 1:19:04entities that were chasing us and that were not entirely good, because Peter was
- 1:19:09already getting sick little by little. He also explained that entities do not stick
- 1:19:15to us as well, but can be transported in material things. At that
- 1:19:20time I turned to see Peter and he to me was evident that it was
- 1:19:26because of the sign that Peter had picked up and brought home. The lady
- 1:19:30recommended that no one else touch that thing, only Peter, since he was
- 1:19:34the one who took it and who was most affected and later took it and
- 1:19:39see what could be solved. And so it was. Again we returned with
- 1:19:44the sign that Peter had hidden in the courtyard of his house. Returning it
- 1:19:49was not an option because the authorities could punish us for getting us in without
- 1:19:54permission. So the Curandera recommended that we take that thing and bury it in
- 1:19:59the Holy Land, in a pantheon if possible. We did so in the
- 1:20:04company of the Curandera to recommend the best place to do so and not to
- 1:20:10desecrate a rest space for someone else. We opened the space, but Peter
- 1:20:15had to be the one to accommodate it and earth it. We also had
- 1:20:21to return to the place of the Curandera to make us other clean ones and
- 1:20:26make a rite for the takeoff of entities. It also gave us some special
- 1:20:30essences that we had to pour out like water during the shower to shed all
- 1:20:35kinds of negative things. He told us that these entities permeate and cling to
- 1:20:41children and preteens, because it is an age when we are very naive and
- 1:20:45do not represent much malice. As impressive as it sounds at the moment Peter
- 1:20:51began to improve as if he had nothing, and the nightmares and apparitions suddenly
- 1:20:57left to date. I' m still very curious about those issues, but
- 1:21:02what I' m sure about is that the energy crossing between living and dead
- 1:21:06people is anonymous accounts.
