- 0:27Speaker 3: to worry about anything until Monday, and that includes work emails.

- 1:04Speaker 4: Well, there are a couple of reasons I volunteer so

- 1:09Speaker 4: he's my only child. Yeah, I only get to do
- 1:11Speaker 4: all these milestones once. And a bigger reason, honestly, is
- 1:15Speaker 4: that our schedule allows for it.
- 1:16Speaker 5: As much as it sucks to get up so.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Early in the morning, we're done early enough that we
- 1:20Speaker 4: can be present for all these events at school during the.

- 1:32Speaker 6: some joy. Milestone moments.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I had a milestone kind of a situation, not really
- 1:37Speaker 3: a milestone, but it was more of a moment that
- 1:39Speaker 3: I was like, you know what, the things we talk
- 1:42Speaker 3: about with like say the feeld Good Friday story that
- 1:44Speaker 3: you'll hear it a little bit later on, yeah, or

- 2:11Speaker 3: see how packed that place was.
- 2:15Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 2:15Speaker 3: If you've never been. It's in Bethesday. It's on Woodmont Avenue.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I didn't pull over to stop because I was on
- 2:20Speaker 3: borrowed time. It was a school night. But I will
- 2:22Speaker 3: say this, Max's Best ice Cream buckle up um coming
- 2:28Speaker 3: And by the way, props to the best buddies who
- 2:30Speaker 3: uh who I know are in partnership with Max's Best

- 5:38Speaker 4: pick a song from the eighties or nineties because of
- 5:40Speaker 4: our best of the eighties and nineties weekend. And which
- 5:43Speaker 4: one is it going to be today?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Well, I'm going to shoot back to when we were
- 5:45Speaker 3: in high school. At least I think you were still
- 5:47Speaker 3: in high school ninety two, right, what year did.
- 5:49Speaker 5: You know I was? I was in college. I graduated
- 5:51Speaker 5: in ninety oh.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Man, see when I was ninety three.
- 5:55Speaker 3: But anyway, ten thousand maniacs, These are Days really an
- 6:01Speaker 3: amazing song. If you haven't heard it in a minute,

- 6:13Speaker 3: a promotion, waiting for a reason to improve ourselves, waiting
- 6:17Speaker 3: for our kids to grow up, or maybe if you're
- 6:19Speaker 3: like Chili, you waiting on your next vacation, which is
- 6:22Speaker 3: days away. The countdown is on for but this song
- 6:25Speaker 3: and this lyric they remind us that someday we're going
- 6:28Speaker 3: to look back at now and realize that these were
- 6:31Speaker 3: the days, not because stuff was perfect, but because because
- 6:35Speaker 3: life happens in the middle of ordinary moments. You know,
- 6:40Speaker 3: keep that in mind. These are days you'll remember never
- 6:44Speaker 3: before and never since. Ten thousand Maniacs from nineteen ninety
- 6:48Speaker 3: two at your morning mindset today. So, Chili, this whole
- 6:52Speaker 3: time we've been talking about your morning mindset, I've noticed
- 6:55Speaker 3: you've been scribbling and writing.
- 6:56Speaker 2: What's going on over there?
- 6:57Speaker 4: I'm paying attention on multitasking. I know you, but that's
- 7:01Speaker 4: not like you're you're usually Harry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry
- 7:04Speaker 4: you kind of made a reference to the vacation thing.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I'm just I'm just sort of making my list a
- 7:09Speaker 4: little bit.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Well, now I want to hear what's on the vacation list.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Hopefully you have a great Friday in your morning mindset.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Helps.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Now we're going to get into what Chili's been scribbling
- 7:18Speaker 3: furiously about coming shortly. I wonder what this list has
- 7:24Speaker 3: to share with us. All right, spill it. What have
- 7:27Speaker 3: you been furiously jotting down over there. Hi, We're Toby
- 7:30Speaker 3: and Chilly in the morning. It's Friday in the nation's capital,
- 7:33Speaker 3: ninety seven point one. Wash FM is on a little
- 7:35Speaker 3: bit ago during your morning mindset, I was quasi distracted
- 7:38Speaker 3: because I'll look over at Chili just to kind of
- 7:40Speaker 3: make sure I'm, you know, communicating correctly or that we're
- 7:43Speaker 3: on the right time frame.
- 7:44Speaker 2: That's, you know, that unspoken communication thing.
- 7:46Speaker 3: If I rip back the fourth wall for you just
- 7:48Speaker 3: a bit, and Chili's been over there like even now.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean, it looks like you've written a novel. What
- 7:53Speaker 2: is that, Warren Peace?
- 7:54Speaker 4: No, no, no. So we leave for the beach a
- 7:57Speaker 4: week from tomorrow, okay, and this weekend is the staging weekend.
- 8:01Speaker 4: This is where we start getting stuff out of storage
- 8:03Speaker 4: and stuff that we're going to take to the beach.
- 8:04Speaker 4: And I just need to make sure that I don't
- 8:06Speaker 4: forget anything. So I start a list and everything pops
- 8:09Speaker 4: into my mind. I jotted down that's what I've been doing.
- 8:11Speaker 4: So it's I'm still listening to what you're.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Saying, right well, I mean when it comes to making
- 8:16Speaker 3: lists and getting ready and staging for vacation. Yeah, I
- 8:19Speaker 3: just kind of roll into the closet the night before,
- 8:22Speaker 3: pull a bunch of stuff that I need, make sure
- 8:24Speaker 3: that I've got any tech that I need to have
- 8:26Speaker 3: packed with, you know, and ready to go.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I mean, don't get it twisted. This is not a
- 8:30Speaker 4: clothing list. This is not my closet like you do
- 8:33Speaker 4: for packing clothes too. This is like the big bulky
- 8:36Speaker 4: items like the chairs, the cabana, the cooler, the portable.
- 8:44Speaker 2: You know, you're going to the Outer Banks.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but we're staying in an airbnb and we like
- 8:49Speaker 4: to pack a lot of our so we're driving, we're
- 8:51Speaker 4: not flying, so we have plenty of room in the
- 8:53Speaker 4: car and on the roof of the car as.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Well on the roof of the car.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Yeah, there's three of us.
- 8:58Speaker 3: What are you doing moving Dick's sporting goods down to
- 9:01Speaker 3: the Outer Banks?
- 9:02Speaker 5: Well, you know, there are a lot of things that
- 9:04Speaker 5: we like to take.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Tent on the list.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Absolutely, chairs, I already mentioned that, yeh wow.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean still those items, items that we haven't
- 9:13Speaker 4: seen any year.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Items I need to make sure we don't forget because.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you might want to make sure they still inflate
- 9:18Speaker 3: and stuff. If you have like any of the beach rafts. Yeah, exactly, Wow, who.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Even the pump for it? Because we don't want to
- 9:25Speaker 4: be blowing it with our mouths. We want to be
- 9:27Speaker 4: doing it with the machine. No, no, I hear you.
- 9:31Speaker 5: For the dog. You know, I got to pack meds
- 9:34Speaker 5: for the dog in case.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Food for the dog, and.
- 9:36Speaker 4: You get it. So I just like to write it down.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I'm a planner, Toby. I want to make sure that
- 9:40Speaker 4: we've got everything we need.
- 9:42Speaker 2: And there lies the difference between my partner and I.
- 9:44Speaker 2: She plans.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I fly by the seat of my pants. Somehow it
- 9:47Speaker 3: all works. But when you see the Grizzwolds driving down
- 9:50Speaker 3: ninety five southbound in a couple of weeks, you'll know
- 9:54Speaker 3: that that's Chili's family headed to vacation to the outer Banks.
- 9:57Speaker 3: You'll just stay far back because you never know what
- 10:00Speaker 3: might fall off the top of the car. Ninety seven

- 13:13Speaker 3: of these people that plays video games to unwind? It
- 13:17Speaker 3: seems that some people do, and there's a good reason
- 13:21Speaker 3: why we're going to talk about it coming up in
- 13:23Speaker 3: just a bit, So stay there and if you want
- 13:25Speaker 3: to get into any conversation we're having, remember it's eight six, six, nine, two, seven,
- 13:29Speaker 3: forty three sixty one before you fall asleep. Ninety seven
- 13:33Speaker 3: point one WASHFM, Toby and Chilly in the morning. Are
- 13:36Speaker 3: you one of the sixty one percent of people that
- 13:39Speaker 3: plays games in bed before you wind down after a
- 13:43Speaker 3: long day. Well, apparently lots of people do.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I think it's fascinating because before I saw
- 13:51Speaker 4: this research, I didn't think I was in the majority here.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I love to play a video game in bed, and
- 13:57Speaker 4: specifically Tetris, and before I know, I'm not a gamer,
- 14:02Speaker 4: but per se like with Switch or any of those
- 14:05Speaker 4: other consoles. But when it comes to this, it's like
- 14:08Speaker 4: a handheld Tetris thing. I had read not that long
- 14:12Speaker 4: ago that people who suffer from PTSD are recommended to
- 14:16Speaker 4: do that because it forces your brain to break that
- 14:20Speaker 4: cycle of ruminating and thinking about things when you're trying
- 14:24Speaker 4: to get those blocks in in a certain order. And
- 14:27Speaker 4: I use it for when I'm feeling particularly anxious, and
- 14:29Speaker 4: it does help me shut my brain off, so to speak,
- 14:32Speaker 4: at night.
- 14:33Speaker 2: It helps you shut your brain. It really does makes
- 14:35Speaker 2: me feel competitive.
- 14:37Speaker 4: But okay, but while I'm doing the Tetris, I have
- 14:40Speaker 4: broken the spiraling that's been going on in my brain
- 14:44Speaker 4: of reliving moments throughout the day that I'm.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Kind of likely Okay, yeah, I mean I get that.
- 14:50Speaker 3: But again, like I've tried to play games before bed,
- 14:54Speaker 3: like while I'm thinking about drifting off to sleep, and
- 14:56Speaker 3: it just does not work.
- 14:58Speaker 4: It makes you get all excited and does it energize
- 15:01Speaker 4: you Instead.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Then I get bored with Tetris and I'm like, well,
- 15:04Speaker 3: let me grab my phone and pull up Madden and
- 15:06Speaker 3: play some football or something.
- 15:08Speaker 4: You know, it has to be for me puzzle related
- 15:12Speaker 4: because then the interrupting flashbacks that I'm having go away
- 15:17Speaker 4: because I'm so focused on organizing and solving certain puzzles.
- 15:21Speaker 4: So I think this is fascinating. I love that this
- 15:23Speaker 4: is true, and anybody who's never tried this, it's worth
- 15:27Speaker 4: a shot, whether it's with Tetris or something else that you.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Don't a radio. Maybe I'll switch to Tetris, and maybe
- 15:33Speaker 3: that won't make me as competitive, because then I get
- 15:35Speaker 3: all fired up and I don't want to sleep, and
- 15:37Speaker 3: I'm all like adrenaline rush, you know, let's just go game.
- 15:41Speaker 3: And then I'll get the idea that I should just
- 15:43Speaker 3: go to the living room and game, and I'm like, no, no,
- 15:45Speaker 3: But anyway, do you play games before you fall asleep?
- 15:48Speaker 3: Tell us what games you play, why you choose to
- 15:51Speaker 3: do so. Eight sixty six nine two seven three sixty
- 15:55Speaker 3: one is the number. You can also use talk back
- 15:56Speaker 3: if you're listening right now in your iHeart app. Stay
- 15:58Speaker 3: there and we'll pick up on your stories. Washington's Variety
- 16:02Speaker 3: of the eighties nineties. Today it's ninety seven point one
- 16:05Speaker 3: Washing FM, Toby and Chilly in the morning talking about
- 16:07Speaker 3: you playing games before you go to bed. Interesting statistic
- 16:11Speaker 3: and overwhelming majority of people do.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Yeah, sixty one percent play mobile games in bed to relax.

- 23:32Speaker 3: after Toby Itily's Top Stories ninety seven point one wash
- 23:36Speaker 3: FM and coming up in just a few minutes. It
- 23:38Speaker 3: is Friday, and if you're not feeling good, you will.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Our feel Good Friday story is about a nurse in
- 23:44Speaker 4: Arlington that's just been recognized as Virginia's Best Friday.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Yep, we need a story that gives us all the feels.
- 23:51Speaker 3: It's been a crazy week and it's time now, hopefully
- 23:54Speaker 3: to do just that with your feel good story for
- 23:56Speaker 3: the day, It's ninety seven point one wash FM, Toby
- 23:59Speaker 3: and Chilly in the morning. There is a nurse in Arlington,
- 24:02Speaker 3: at Wakefield High School who just grabbed a pretty big honor,
- 24:06Speaker 3: Virginia's Nurse of the Year. The state's Department of Health
- 24:10Speaker 3: said that Heather Williams is this person, and every morning
- 24:14Speaker 3: before the first bell rings, kids swing by her clinic
- 24:18Speaker 3: just to say hi. Not because they're sick or they
- 24:20Speaker 3: want to go home, or they have a fever, but
- 24:22Speaker 3: because she is their person.
- 24:25Speaker 4: And by the way, that kind of connection did not
- 24:27Speaker 4: happen overnight. It was back in twenty twenty three, a
- 24:30Speaker 4: Wakefield student died after a suspected overdose in the school bathroom,
- 24:34Speaker 4: and it was really a big turning point. Heather decided
- 24:38Speaker 4: to dive into education mode, and she warned kids about
- 24:41Speaker 4: the dangers of opioids, and then she pointed out the
- 24:44Speaker 4: red malozoone boxes that had been mounted on the walls
- 24:48Speaker 4: and making sure students knew that they could carry the
- 24:51Speaker 4: overdose reversing medications themselves if their parents signed off on it.
- 24:55Speaker 3: And she became a confidant for the kids who didn't
- 24:58Speaker 3: feel comfortable talking to family friends. She connected over one
- 25:01Speaker 3: hundred students with community health providers in one year. For
- 25:06Speaker 3: some of these kids, that was the only medical professional
- 25:09Speaker 3: that they'll ever see because their families don't have insurance,
- 25:12Speaker 3: can't afford a doctor, sometimes even because of their legal status.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Now in her fifth year at Wakefield, the recognition feels
- 25:19Speaker 4: really well earned. But when you hear Heather talk about
- 25:22Speaker 4: the job, the award almost feels beside the point. She says,
- 25:25Speaker 4: all she's doing is just showing up, listening to these
- 25:28Speaker 4: kids without judgment, and making sure the clinic is a
- 25:32Speaker 4: safe space.
- 25:33Speaker 5: And somehow that all turns out to be everything.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Heather Williams Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia's Nurse of
- 25:40Speaker 3: the Year, The Commonwealth a better place, the DMV a
- 25:44Speaker 3: better place, those kids better off because you care. How
- 25:49Speaker 3: can you not feel good when you hear a story
- 25:51Speaker 3: like that? Thank you, Heather for giving us something amazing
- 25:55Speaker 3: on a Friday. Got a story that makes you feel good?
- 25:58Speaker 3: Should we share it on Friday? Or maybe when we
- 26:00Speaker 3: talk about a story that might make your Monday. Let
- 26:03Speaker 3: us know what it is. We would love to share
- 26:05Speaker 3: it with everyone. Just send us an email you'll find
- 26:08Speaker 3: us on the Toby and chilipage at washefm dot com. Hey, Chilly,
- 26:12Speaker 3: the news is on the way in a few minutes.
- 26:13Speaker 2: What's up.
- 26:14Speaker 4: If you're flying through Reagan National on July fourth, you
- 26:17Speaker 4: better book an early flight.
- 26:19Speaker 5: The reason for that on the way.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Oh, you're an eighties fan, maybe you're a nineties fan.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Maybe you're an all of the above fan. Well, you
- 26:27Speaker 3: need to stay with. Ninety seven point one wasch FM
- 26:30Speaker 3: all weekend long.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Right around five o'clock today, that's when we kick off
- 26:33Speaker 4: our best of the eighties and nineties weekend.
- 26:36Speaker 2: All those memories two decades. You just need to provide
- 26:40Speaker 2: your nostalgia. Ninety seven point one was.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Ninety seven point one WASHFM, Washington, an iHeartRadio station.
- 26:49Speaker 7: Coming up on Top Stories Top of the Hour.
- 26:52Speaker 4: The President called off planned strikes on Iran last night.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Details on that story and others on the way with
- 26:59Speaker 4: Choby and Chile in the morning on ninety seven point
- 27:01Speaker 4: one lash FN.
- 27:05Speaker 7: Top Stories Top of the Hour.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Last night, storms knocked out power to thousands of homes
- 27:11Speaker 4: in the DC area, and utilities say they hope to
- 27:13Speaker 4: get everybody up and running again by this evening. Meanwhile,
- 27:17Speaker 4: a woman has died after a tree fell on her
- 27:20Speaker 4: in Prince George's county. Last night, the President called off
- 27:23Speaker 4: planned strikes on Iran, saying that a peace steal could
- 27:26Speaker 4: be signed as soon as this weekend, possibly in Europe,
- 27:29Speaker 4: with Vice President Vance representing the US side. The board
- 27:34Speaker 4: of the Kennedy Center making a last second appeal to
- 27:37Speaker 4: stop the removal of the President's name. A federal judge
- 27:42Speaker 4: had said that the center violated federal law by adding
- 27:45Speaker 4: his name without congressional approval. Now, if you're flying through
- 27:48Speaker 4: Reagan National Airport on July fourth, you better book an
- 27:51Speaker 4: early flight. The FAA is planning an extensive air space
- 27:56Speaker 4: shut down that day for the country's two hundred and
- 27:58Speaker 4: fiftieth birthday, seller so no flights will be scheduled from
- 28:03Speaker 4: Reagan National after eleven thirty nine am. DC's three water
- 28:08Speaker 4: suppliers are kicking off a twenty five million dollar two
- 28:11Speaker 4: year study to find a backup water source for the area,
- 28:15Speaker 4: since more than five million people currently depend almost entirely
- 28:20Speaker 4: on the Potomac River, with only about a day's worth
- 28:23Speaker 4: of reserves if it became unusable, and most Americans say
- 28:28Speaker 4: they really like board games, but very few actually play them.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Nearly half say they rarely do, and twenty two percent
- 28:36Speaker 4: never play board games. Monopoly, by the way, is number
- 28:40Speaker 4: one and Checkers second one to dominate. Forecast for today hazy, hot,
- 28:45Speaker 4: and humid yet again with the chance of storms later
- 28:49Speaker 4: highs in the mid nineties.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Right now, seventy seven in Fairfax.
- 28:52Speaker 3: And that's the news. Now that you've got top stories.
- 28:54Speaker 3: At the top of the hour, it's ninety seven point one.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Watch FM Toby and Chilly in the morning. Let's talk
- 29:00Speaker 3: about this parenting rule, this five and one parenting rule.
- 29:04Speaker 3: And while we're talking about parenting, if you've got kids,
- 29:07Speaker 3: what are some of the rules that you've adopted in
- 29:10Speaker 3: life to help you to have incredible moments with your kids.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Let's get into this coming up in minutes the numbers
- 29:16Speaker 3: eight sixty six, nine two seven forty three sixty one.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Give us a call now and join the conversation. Did
- 29:22Speaker 3: you hear about this five to one parenting rule? Ninety
- 29:25Speaker 3: seven point one, Wash FM Toby and Chilly in the
- 29:27Speaker 3: Morning at eight sixty six, ninet two, seven forty three
- 29:30Speaker 3: sixty one. It's all about strengthening bonds with your kids.
- 29:33Speaker 3: So let's talk about it.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Here's what experts say. They say that for every correction
- 29:38Speaker 4: or criticism that you give your kid, you need to
- 29:40Speaker 4: offer five positive interactions and that could mean praise, encouragement,
- 29:45Speaker 4: or just quality connected time together.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Where are trips to target and the toy aisle fall
- 29:51Speaker 2: in that?
- 29:53Speaker 5: I mean, here's the fact.
- 29:54Speaker 4: It's easy for us to criticize and correct them, but
- 29:58Speaker 4: we really do need to balance that with positive reinforcement
- 30:03Speaker 4: of things truth and we all have our own ways
- 30:06Speaker 4: of bonding with our kids. How is it with you
- 30:09Speaker 4: and your daughter? When she was younger and Kylo was.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Here with me and not out on her own living
- 30:14Speaker 3: with a boyfriend in Michigan, we would go to see concerts.
- 30:18Speaker 3: We would go to see shows like Taylor Swift or
- 30:21Speaker 3: different shows at nine thirty Club. I think of the
- 30:25Speaker 3: time we went to see Big Time Rush and she
- 30:28Speaker 3: just loved him. She turned me on to new artists
- 30:31Speaker 3: and then boom, just like that, memories and moments made.
- 30:35Speaker 3: What about you and your son, Donada.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Our best bonding moments occur in the car, having a
- 30:40Speaker 4: conversation on the way to one of his therapies or
- 30:43Speaker 4: some other errand because you're not directly looking at each other.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I find that he's way more comfortable opening up and
- 30:49Speaker 4: sharing what's going on in his world. And so that's
- 30:52Speaker 4: our bonding time.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Good stuff. So how do you bond with your child?
- 30:56Speaker 3: You've got the number eight sixty six nine two seven
- 30:59Speaker 3: forty three six one. Good morning, Kessley and Arlington.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Go ahead.
