- 0:00Speaker 1: As we mentioned, let more on Texas Vanderbilt coming up
- 0:05Speaker 1: three o'clock hour. Greg Tapper, managing ed or Dave campbells
- 0:08Speaker 1: Texas Football Magazine to join us to talk both college
- 0:11Speaker 1: and high school football. It's a huge week.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It really is, by the.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Way, in high school football, a huge week. You've got
- 0:17Speaker 1: west Lake Clay Travis a task a seat at Glena Park,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Nor Shore Columbus against Hitchcock. There are big games all
- 0:27Speaker 1: across the state of Texas this week. We'll talk about
- 0:31Speaker 1: that with him. But also obviously college football in the
- 0:33Speaker 1: lone star state. We'll get to that. Then there's pro football.
- 0:38Speaker 1: The Texans play. I think it's the Colts this week,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and if the Colts win, they'll be in first place.
- 0:47Speaker 1: How about that. You'll figure that out. Joe Flacco, Well,
- 0:51Speaker 1: actually Anthony Richardson's back now on that. But they might
- 0:56Speaker 1: be better with Flaco, I don't know. On the Manning
- 1:00Speaker 1: Cast last night, they showed Joe Flacco's twenty one yard
- 1:03Speaker 1: run in the game earlier this season. They said, that's
- 1:07Speaker 1: the longest run from scrimmage he's had I think of
- 1:09Speaker 1: his career, and he got top end speed of like
- 1:11Speaker 1: eighteen miles per hour FLA. I said, I was so
- 1:14Speaker 1: out of breath I couldn't even call the play in
- 1:16Speaker 1: the huddle afterwards. But the Cowboys come off the bye
- 1:22Speaker 1: week the open date on the schedule, and they have
- 1:24Speaker 1: to go out to Santa Clara to play an angry
- 1:28Speaker 1: forty nine or team that did not play well and
- 1:30Speaker 1: got humbled by the Cheese and lost Brandon Ayuk for
- 1:33Speaker 1: the season.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And with Deebo Samuel being traded for Ammonia, he may
- 1:38Speaker 2: be out for this game. And of course still no
- 1:41Speaker 2: updates yet on Christian McCaffrey.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So it's amazing to say that the Rams are two
- 1:48Speaker 1: and fours till like on the fringes of being in
- 1:50Speaker 1: contention in a division.
- 1:52Speaker 2: They are not out of it whatsoever.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but the Cardinals are five and two after winning, Well,
- 1:57Speaker 1: aren't they five and two? No, they're three or four?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Reading four?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they're three and four. So anyway, it's so Seahawks
- 2:04Speaker 1: Rams are a game.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And a half back.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, in talking about the NFL, the
- 2:11Speaker 1: Cowboys of course will have to play at the forty
- 2:14Speaker 1: nine ers this week and again last week. I'm sure
- 2:18Speaker 1: you heard about it, read about it. It was it
- 2:21Speaker 1: was in all the papers, it was on all the website.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Things that Jerry Jones when he got Crossways with his
- 2:28Speaker 1: weekly radio guys r J. Chappie and Sean Sheriff and
- 2:33Speaker 1: I can never remember the third guy's name, but anyway,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you got crossways with them.
- 2:37Speaker 2: But like it's it's like the group that signful an
- 2:41Speaker 2: episode with the three tenors, you know, like Domingo and
- 2:45Speaker 2: then and then and the other guy.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The other guy, the other guy, the other guy. Well,
- 2:49Speaker 1: the other guy is the producer really and but I
- 2:52Speaker 1: never forget your name because thank you. You're you're very
- 2:55Speaker 1: important part of this program, both not on the board,
- 2:59Speaker 1: not only on board, but also on the air. So
- 3:02Speaker 1: Jerry Jones. And then to make matters more confusing, RJ.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Choppy wasn't even on the show this morning, which we're here,
- 3:10Speaker 1: so you know, coming off of that very tense conversation
- 3:16Speaker 1: this week last week, and then coming off the open date,
- 3:20Speaker 1: what would today's conversation be, Like, I think you're going
- 3:22Speaker 1: to be entertained. This was from one oh five to
- 3:24Speaker 1: three the Fan in Dallas Fort Worth. This is the
- 3:27Speaker 1: Cowboys flagship station, and this is Jerry Jones Weekly Conversation
- 3:31Speaker 1: this morning.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And the moment that many around the country and the
- 3:34Speaker 3: Metroplex are waiting for is upon us as Jerry is
- 3:38Speaker 3: joining us right now on DFW Sports station. Good morning, Jerry,
- 3:42Speaker 3: how are you on?
- 3:43Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 3:43Speaker 3: RJ?
- 3:44Speaker 4: Good to be on with you guys.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Oh man, that's things, that's things, Jerry.
- 3:48Speaker 3: RJ is the only one not here today.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Well I did he want to avoid the confrontations?
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yes he did, Yes he did, Jerry. What do you
- 4:01Speaker 3: want to say if anything about last week?
- 4:04Speaker 4: I don't have anything said about last week. I'm happy
- 4:09Speaker 4: though that I must be tell you. I'm surprised that
- 4:15Speaker 4: last week got the attention it got. But you know, really,
- 4:20Speaker 4: when I think about what we try to do on
- 4:23Speaker 4: this show, for me, is I think we give you
- 4:28Speaker 4: two shots a week that I get on and Steven
- 4:32Speaker 4: gets on once or twice, and Mike. I don't know
- 4:36Speaker 4: if Mike gets on or not. But those are really
- 4:42Speaker 4: a privilege. It's kind of like Piloton. You get some
- 4:48Speaker 4: inside stuff. As you know, I don't go before the
- 4:52Speaker 4: normal press conferences during the week usually, and so this
- 4:58Speaker 4: is the kind of thing that I would expect and
- 5:04Speaker 4: how I would answer it relative to many of your questions.
- 5:09Speaker 4: You're going to ask me today because Henry had a
- 5:12Speaker 4: big night, Derrick Henry last night. You're going to ask
- 5:15Speaker 4: me again, how come when Henry was available, and right
- 5:19Speaker 4: here in Dallas said he didn't. We didn't get it.
- 5:23Speaker 4: And I will tell you the same kind of question
- 5:27Speaker 4: is one that my wife might ask me of sixty
- 5:31Speaker 4: something years why did you do that? And I said, well,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I really don't know why I did that. The devil
- 5:38Speaker 4: made me do it. And so my point is those
- 5:42Speaker 4: kinds of questions are pointedly toward putting you on a
- 5:48Speaker 4: spot to make a certain kind of answer. I've obviously
- 5:52Speaker 4: been asked that Derrick Henry question almost every day since
- 5:56Speaker 4: we started training camp, and so that's a get in
- 6:01Speaker 4: your ask type of question. And I understand that I
- 6:05Speaker 4: see that coming, and that's real good. But when you
- 6:09Speaker 4: do it several times, and of course you know, I
- 6:12Speaker 4: keep up with what you guys say when I'm not
- 6:14Speaker 4: on the show, and so when you do it several times,
- 6:19Speaker 4: I know that when you're asked about a question of
- 6:24Speaker 4: such as one that you might have at home of
- 6:28Speaker 4: why did you do that, and you do it several times,
- 6:31Speaker 4: then you really know what the situation is where it's
- 6:34Speaker 4: coming from. So those are the kinds of things that
- 6:40Speaker 4: this show, to me can and build out. For instance,
- 6:47Speaker 4: if you ask me how I make a decision, I
- 6:51Speaker 4: would say I maybe go back to a story of
- 6:54Speaker 4: when I was buying the Cowboys and we got down
- 6:57Speaker 4: to where it was a three hundred thousand dollars different
- 7:00Speaker 4: and we couldn't get by the man that sold the
- 7:03Speaker 4: team to me, and so he suggested we flip a coin,
- 7:08Speaker 4: and we flipped that coin and I lost. I really
- 7:12Speaker 4: got screwed. I ended up with the Dallas Cowboy. My
- 7:15Speaker 4: point is, I don't know why I called heads rather
- 7:18Speaker 4: than tails, and I couldn't explain to you why I
- 7:20Speaker 4: called heads Rytheran tails. But some of this stuff works out,
- 7:23Speaker 4: some of it doesn't. That's the kind of thing and
- 7:26Speaker 4: the kind of answers I would expect us to be
- 7:28Speaker 4: talking about on the show.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and I get all that, and normally we're usually
- 7:35Speaker 3: on the same page in terms of the topics and
- 7:37Speaker 3: the subjects. That's why I think last week threw us
- 7:39Speaker 3: off a little bit. But look, man, as I've said
- 7:42Speaker 3: multiple times, Jerry, you've provided us you know, Radio Gold,
- 7:47Speaker 3: and it is a privilege to be able to do
- 7:49Speaker 3: this show with you for fifteen years and we had
- 7:52Speaker 3: some fireworks, and that's the kind of the way I
- 7:55Speaker 3: view it, despite you know, the payment and suspension and
- 8:00Speaker 3: then move the show and all that stuff, because we're
- 8:02Speaker 3: usually in locksteps. So I understand that.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Listen, here's the thing. The fact that we've been doing
- 8:08Speaker 4: it fifteen years of it shows that someplace in between
- 8:13Speaker 4: there we got comfortable in our skin doing these type things,
- 8:20Speaker 4: and we did get comfortable with it. I'm tickled to
- 8:22Speaker 4: death that we have as much interest in this as
- 8:26Speaker 4: we do and as you well know. But guys, I
- 8:31Speaker 4: have no issue and you know that as a matter
- 8:33Speaker 4: of fact, you've said that I have no issue with
- 8:35Speaker 4: getting up in front of a bunch of media and
- 8:39Speaker 4: people of journalism and asking the question and answering, getting
- 8:42Speaker 4: questions and answering, and I don't have any problem with that.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Would you agree with that?
- 8:46Speaker 3: Yes, totally.
- 8:48Speaker 4: And again I'm not trying to put words in your mouth,
- 8:50Speaker 4: but the point is that we've in my mind, we're
- 8:55Speaker 4: not playing very good football right now at all. It's
- 9:00Speaker 4: beyond whether or not we have Derrick Henry or not.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Derrick Henry is having a career year. I don't know
- 9:08Speaker 4: if he'd be having that career year in our situation,
- 9:12Speaker 4: and that's really something you really do have to look at,
- 9:15Speaker 4: because if he had not had as many carriers as
- 9:18Speaker 4: our running backs have had, then he certainly probably wouldn't
- 9:21Speaker 4: have attained the level of impact he's having. And then
- 9:26Speaker 4: he's a real good compliment to the type of offense
- 9:30Speaker 4: they run. We don't run that type offense at all.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Our situation is more about, frankly, it's more about holding
- 9:38Speaker 4: your blocks. It's more about not making mistakes. It's more about,
- 9:43Speaker 4: in my mind, the receivers running through a tough man
- 9:48Speaker 4: demand coverage and running on through it. And if you
- 9:52Speaker 4: will get away from the types of things that we
- 9:58Speaker 4: all think we should to be looking at, is well,
- 10:02Speaker 4: we're designing bad plays or we're designing bad concepts. The
- 10:08Speaker 4: facts are that there's some of that, but there's also
- 10:12Speaker 4: some of the execution. There are some of the talent.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I like our talent. I really do like our talent.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I like our young talent, but young talent has a
- 10:23Speaker 4: few more mistakes associated with it than that. If you
- 10:27Speaker 4: are dealing with a veteran player, although you've got to
- 10:30Speaker 4: have young talent. As I've said, Derrick Henry didn't fit
- 10:34Speaker 4: because principally of managing the cap, of managing the cap
- 10:40Speaker 4: and anticipation of the players that we were going to
- 10:43Speaker 4: sign weeks later, or anticipation of the players we're going
- 10:47Speaker 4: to be signing in the future.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Jerry Jones here on.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that was it. That was the most entertaining part.
- 10:54Speaker 1: There was one other thing they said something with regard
- 10:57Speaker 1: to what was the deal with.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I think it was wide receiver of the situation.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I was trying to remember. It came who was the
- 11:10Speaker 1: former Cowboys wide receiver with Cleveland, Marik Cooper, A Maury Cooper.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There was there was a deal. He said something something
- 11:17Speaker 1: with regard to that, But it wasn't. It wasn't it
- 11:19Speaker 1: wouldn't you would.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Say they said, we went for dollars when we traded
- 11:23Speaker 2: Amrii Cooper Poper Cooper, we saved almost twenty million dollars
- 11:28Speaker 2: for a cap in the future. We took a lesser
- 11:29Speaker 2: draft pick to get that savings. When he made this
- 11:33Speaker 2: move the other day, Cleveland went for more draft picks
- 11:35Speaker 2: and less savings. It was very simple. Yeah, because remember
- 11:39Speaker 2: when the Cowboys traded Mariy Cooper to Cleveland. It was
- 11:44Speaker 2: for a fifth round draft pick. After remember they traded
- 11:47Speaker 2: for him for a first round draft pick. That's right,
- 11:49Speaker 2: Cleveland traded him the Buffalo last week for a third
- 11:52Speaker 2: round draft pick.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so they were saying, how does something like that
- 11:56Speaker 1: happen when you traded for him for a first round,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you unloaded him for a fifth round and then they
- 12:03Speaker 1: were able to trade him for a third round and
- 12:05Speaker 1: he basically said it was about dollars and cents.
- 12:08Speaker 2: They were able to.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Save it cap money by doing it that way. So anyway,
- 12:12Speaker 1: it sounds like Jerry's back on good terms with uh
- 12:15Speaker 1: with those morning guys at one, five to three of
- 12:17Speaker 1: the fan All right, up next, we'll bring it today's
- 12:19Speaker 1: edition of Inconceivable here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
- 12:22Speaker 1: the zone of the iHeartRadio Am
