- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Tristan, how are you doing today, man?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Steven, how can I feel low after a couple big dubs to bounce back after heartbreak?
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling really good, man.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I'm sipping on a little bit of shiner candy to pecan.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Gotta say, not my favorite seasonal, but I mean, we got good tech to talk about.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: So what could go wrong?
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, no doubt.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: I am joining you, except mine is a frosty coors light.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is not a sponsored podcast ad.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: If you want, though.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Coors Light, reach out, man.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Help us help a brother out.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I I would I would think that the people in Coors would be treasured listeners to the Talking Tech podcast.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: I know they're based Colorado people, whatever, but they they love they love uh Texas Tech.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And then talking tech and uh talking tech.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: In China, if you've China, if you want in on this, yeah, get in.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: And so that was talking that was talking ads on Talking Tech podcast.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: But uh no, we have other stuff to talk about, and we will get to the basketball and all the good stuff, signing day and all that stuff here in a second.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: But some quick notes to start off the podcast.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: TTU men's tennis, ranked number 23 in the nation.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Go go dudes, get it.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I don't uh you know, go tennis.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: We we like tennis.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Go dudes that play tennis that represent Texas Tech.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Right on, man.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then uh men's and women's track and field, both ranked in the top 10.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: The men being ranked number four in the nation, the women being ranked number six in the nation.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: That is the highest ranking ever for the women's track and field team.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: They are representing the university fantastically as usual.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Well, you just rattled off a couple of phenomenal programs at the school.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, I feel like we're always ranked in those in both those sports.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So great news to kick off this obviously gonna be good news kind of pod.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: So we got some we got some ranked teams over here going on at Texas Tech.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Matt Wells, please get there soon.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Uh but if you if you don't, uh that's not good.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: But we are gonna go to signing day.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Matt Wells held a big press conference about signing day.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, it does not look good on paper necessarily.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: We are I think we're looking at 10th in the Big 12, so last.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I think a lot of the factors have to do with that.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Our average recruit ranking is right there with everybody else in the Big 12, so that's good.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: We have a lot of returners.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I think Matt Wells said we have like 10 seniors that decided to return this year, so not really a lot of room just in general.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: So, and we still have more guys that we're talking about.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: This list where we're shown 10th or last in the Big 12 doesn't include the transfers that we're getting, which we're getting some good transfers.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, I think Matt Wells brought up kind of the the at the forefront, the guys that have signed since December, since the last time we had a little recruiting talk.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And I kind of I put it in four different categories here.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: I put it into immediate impact guys, could potentially contribute next season, guys, depth pieces, and then walk-ons.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: So we'll kind of start with the immediate impact guys and starting off offensive tackle, TJ Stormont, the TCU transfer.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: Uh, according to Matt Wells, can play both tackle positions.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: He thinks he can play guard too if needed.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: He's 6'7, he's like 325 pounds.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: He's a massive dude, he's got experience, he's he's just a fun guy to have on the roster.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: So that's uh that's quite the player to introduce uh at the beginning here.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Uh obviously not thrilled with number 10, you know, on the on the scale and paper, but uh like we said in the like in a past podcast, we've been looking at the quality over quantity.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So uh what else you got for us?
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, we have another guy that I put.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, there's two in the immediate impacts that I put.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: The other guy being Marquise Waters, the Duke transfer safety.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: He was a captain of Duke, started three-year starter.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: He's got one year left.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's going balls to the wall this year with Texas Tech.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: And uh, he's just a good guy to have on the team, man.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Another experienced dude that's gonna be playing big minutes next season.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: We could use all the help we can get back there.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So please, especially experience uh uh help back there.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: So for the love of God, if we can get some semblance of uh, I mean, we okay.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I maybe I'm being a little harsh because we did have some quality quality DBs with Zach, but uh we need someone to replace that immediately.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: So yeah, for sure.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: We got, I mean, this is like stacked with corners and safeties and guys that we can put in that backfield.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: And Matt Wells says he's still looking to get more guys to potentially add to the roster, uh, maybe before spring training starts, maybe while spring training starts.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but to go on to the next kind of grouping here, which is guys that could contribute.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: And I wrote down four names.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: I wrote down linebacker Josiah Pierre, he's from Florida.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Now he's a he's uh gator transfer.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Uh the thing about him is he's going into his fourth year of college, but he's still technically a freshman.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: It's why he's got four years of eligibility left.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: What?
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: He's got he's got four years of eligibility left, but this he like starting next year will be his fourth year of college.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: So is this man chasing a PhD?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Because God, I hope so.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I hope so too.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: If he's gonna get all this free school, man, do something with it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: But uh, he's a linebacker, and Matt Wells mentioned that we have a lot of linebackers on this team that are going into their final year of eligibility, you guys like Schooler, Rico, you know, Morganstern, those type of players.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: And we have a very old and very veteran linebacking corn.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: So to get a guy like this to potentially be the guy who takes over next season or even the next in the next season after, you know, uh it's always good.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: And the fact that he's a veteran guy, I mean, he's pushing 21 years old already.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be a freshman.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So uh big time for him.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Um, cornerback Reshod Williams, he was the newest and most recent guy to announce his transfer from UCLA.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: He's tall, he's 6'2, he's a cornerback, another defensive back that's big.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Love to see it because all of our it seems like all of our corners are are little bitty guys.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, so it's good to get a guy that's 6'2, three years of eligibility.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: He was sidelined last year due to an injury in training camp.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: So just keep on rolling, man, with these with these defensive backs.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I was about to say, I love hearing you rattle off all these defensive guys, you know.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And what what kind of a pattern that you know I'm picking up on here is you're mentioning power five programs.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, no doubt.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: All of these, almost all of these, except for a select fewer from power five programs.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: So even if they weren't getting the minutes they wanted to on that roster, they were still good enough to be recruited out of high school to go to some of these power five programs, especially one like Florida, which is a pretty high pedigree football program.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So it's this is great news, and especially with whenever you keep talking about the veteran C on the on the backs in the in the defense, so and and especially whenever you talk about a position like linebacker, which has kind of become a a staple for us lately, it's good to hear that we're gonna keep on reloading with that.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of interesting to see this truly transfer portal build of a team right now.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Matt Wells went a lot into that transfer portal thing.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: He's like, I uh when Matt Wells inherited the job, or I guess when he inherited the team when he got the job at tech, he had a very young roster.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, guys that weren't very experienced, he had to he had to utilize the transfer portal just to get some experience in there and to make sure that you know you have guys that have you know seen a college football field before.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So uh he continues to utilize that.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: And now as he's into his, I think he's going into his fourth year, right?
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Or third year?
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Third, third year, yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: He's going into his third year.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: So now he has that base and he has that veteran leadership, and now he's trying to get transfers that still have a lot of remaining eligibility for the future.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: So uh just continuing with these kind of contribute, possibly contributing guys next season.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Um, cornerback Malik Dunlap.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about him in here in the second, but he's an NC State transfer, another power five program, goodness, another tall dude, six foot three out there at cornerback, three years of eligibility.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then yeah, and then finally, offensive lineman Matt Keeler.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: He's a community college guy, but he's uh another offensive lineman, big boy.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's young, he's he's one of the younger ones of these transfers, but uh he's out here, man.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: But dude, that that number 10 in the Big 12 looks sneaky as heck right now.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, like mega sneaky.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I really like it, man.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: You're you got you you're you're making me feel a lot better because you opened up with the bad news, and now you're laying this on with some good news.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: And have you mentioned okay, so uh you rattled off a lot.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: It was like almost all defensive players.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Did you mention any offense that I hear one in there?
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there was offensive lineman, Matt Keeler, and then an offensive tackle and TJ Stormman, who's gonna be involved uh pretty heavily, I think, in this offense uh early on.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Matt Keeler.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Matt Keeler too.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Matt Keeler probably taking a year or two to go by, but uh with Jack Anderson leaving and and you know, some of these other guys that are hurt on the O-line, it's good to uh re-revamp the O-line.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Sure is.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, because the uh the O line needs some help.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad to hear that we're we're we're we're grabbing some guys from some Power Five programs.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And so these last four I have right here are kind of just depth pieces, guys that are Lubbock guys that aren't necessarily big-time recruits, but good to have on the team, could potentially you know recruit in the future, um, or could play in the future.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Uh cornerback Amari Jones, he's a Lubbock guy.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: He's from Coronado.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, they were really happy to get him and just continuing to recruit West Texas.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: We mentioned him last week on the pod.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: And then uh wide receiver Cole Kirkpatrick, wide receiver from uh Argyle High School, uh over in the uh Denton DFW area.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Uh he set the touchdown record for Argyle High School with 50 touchdowns in his high school career.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: So that's another he's a he's a 6'1 white boy wide receiver.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: So hopefully he's a little quickster, get a little West Welker vibes going on with him.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a little Amendola mix in there.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And then two preferred walk-ons, just to end it.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: I thought I'd mention him linebacker Charlie Robinson, another Lubbock guy from Coronado.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: So you're still, you know, getting that Lubbock influence, getting those local guys that makes you know people excited just because they're local guys, you know, people love to see that.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: And then defensive back, Ezekiel McPherson, otherwise known as Zach McPherson's brother, has older brother, old.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: I know, wild, right?
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Older brothers decided to prefer to walk on to the program again with these guys.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: You don't know if they're really gonna get a lot of playing time, but you like to see the the legacy and you know continue continue to get siblings of of guys that have been great for the program and everything like that.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So did you just say Zach McPherson was great for the program?
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: He was.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: I agree, I he finally settled in on it.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: I have said I settled in on it during football season.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: He was good, he was good.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: I was more just upset with the overall play of the defense at moments.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: So well, I I'm I'm happy with what you just listed off.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, Matt Wells has done a pretty good job, at least relatively relatively to Cliff Kingsbury in the recruiting range, and that was something that needed to improve because it was really bad under Cliff.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm not nice little uh list off there, man.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: I think we can we can feel a little more confident going through this season because I mean we all demand a better season this year.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: So if not, it's it's it's a different discussion.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: So, but but nice, man.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Good little rundown there for sure.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: And then we got a couple more things out of this press conference that Matt Wells was saying.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: He gave a little injury update uh with some of the guys that are gonna be out for spring ball.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, one of those transfers, Malik Dunlap, is gonna be out for spring ball, uh, had shoulder surgery.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: I think he said yesterday, so he'll be out for probably all spring ball.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, most of these guys are supposed to be ready by June, so even before football season starts.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: So that's good news.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: But uh Gilbert Benamy, he was one of those guys that was on the 2019 uh draft class and just continued to keep getting hurt.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And so he's going through some shoulder issues.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: He will miss Xavier White.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: You'll remember him, had some good moments at running back last year.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: He's gonna be out for spring ball, and then Rico Jeffers is also gonna be out for spring ball.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: He's still recovering from that knee surgery he had.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: 2019 draft class.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Did I say draft class?
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: That's not good, ladies and gentlemen.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I'm in recruiting class, but yeah, hopefully this guy turns into something we haven't seen him yet play uh for Texas Tech.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, so you know, hopefully they all four of those guys get ready to go and and uh ready for next season, man.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Well, football needs to finally bring us some happiness because I mean we started this podcast talking about how good the other programs were, and we're about to go into how awesome our Red Raiders have bounced back and bounce ball.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: So uh for the love of God, please, please do better.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: This is every episode.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I know God, please football.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: So please football.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: So we're football still a while away.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: We got some more you know stuff coming.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, guys stay healthy.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: But I did want to mention one more last thing was that Matt, they only had four practices last spring because of COVID issues, because of everything rolling down.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: So to have a full spring practice and to get these guys acquainted into the program and into the new system, new coordinator, new coordinator, new uh you got a bunch of new stuff going on.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: So uh a different, you know, we're gonna see a different quarterback besides Columbi.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: You know, he mentioned the guys that were in the quarterback room currently with Donovan Smith, Barron Morton, Maverick McGyver, and Henry Columbi.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: And he's like, you know, we're gonna evaluate them, see how they do with Cumby, and you know, kind of go from there.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: And he also didn't deny that he may add another going forward so uh to this quarterback room.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: So I you know, he expressed the competition's important.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: I believe that, you know, you'd like to have that guy who you know for sure is gonna be the starter, and you know, the guy that you have confidence in, the the overwhelming favorite, but it's also nice to have some competition for sure, and that sure knows that we don't have a clear-cut winner right now on that.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but that's that's that's a good point, you know.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: That that's kind of good to show.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Obviously, last season's gonna be an anomaly of the season uh for it literally all teams.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be it's gonna be cool to see a fully prepped, fully loaded team going into this next season because uh it's time for the results, and it's to get results, you gotta start now.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm happy to see that they're already rolling and going with it.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, but you know what we're getting results in right now, and that's Texas Tech basketball.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I like we're getting the results we like now.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: Uh last podcast was not quite the same vibe.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, we are coming off two straight wins, one against LSU, one against OU.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: But let's get into that LSU recap, man, because what a freaking game, man.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Dude, you need to give us his recap.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Rodriguez here was at the game with his lovely girlfriend and our boy Jackson from the Rambling Raiders podcast.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Yes, it was a fantastic, uh, well, I should say up and down, very, very somber at times, and very uh just like what the hell just happened at times.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, we get into the P Mac cool arena, uh, you know, dome type arena, old school type of thing.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Uh the LSU fans showed out, they were there, I think 25% capacity, but um, they were loud and they were proud.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, you know, Tiger fans always are so but 76-71 win in Baton Rouge, get another road dub for the team.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: And dude, this was Mac McClung and Terrence Shannon, man.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I thought this was an L at the end.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: You know, I we had everybody did.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: We pulled this out of a magic hat, and it was it was thanks to those guys you just mentioned.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: So, man, I you can't you can't deny the mental clutchness that these players continue to have.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: This is the crisp beard culture.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Well, and you talk about mental man, I mean, Mac McClung was getting overrated chance two minutes into the game.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: You can hear it on the TV.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, they were loud and they were every time he touched the ball, he was getting booed, or he was uh people don't like him.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's it's because you're so good.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And for him to just not, you know, put on that straight face the whole time and just go out and and do what he did 22 and five.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh, that's a that's a great thing for him.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: And then Terrence Shannon, first double double ever in his Texas Tech career, 23, 10 rebounds.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: So uh those two scored the final, they were the 12-0 run to end the game.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, Mac hit the two threes, got the steal.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Shannon hit six points after that with the layup and then finishing off with four free throws.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: So those two dudes just were unbelievable, especially in those final minutes.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and in in a hostile environment like that.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and these are the games that make you feel really good about March, you know, because it's the the no matter what, the team never thought they lost.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: So they were they were in until the last buzzer went off.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: So I couldn't be more proud of the way they responded to being down uh that that whole time in the end.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: And my goodness, they just that that that might be the best pull-out win of the season.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: That's PT, you know, it's it's well one of the yeah, man, one of the best comebacks.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Like seriously, you're down six.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: I think it was six uh or seven with a minute fourteen left, and you ended up coming back.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, those those type of wins just kind of change your season around, you know.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: They get you super hyped, they get you ready, and and you see you could see just the overall turn of the mood and the atmosphere there in the arena, walking out of the arena.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to piss anybody off by like just going insane, but I was so hyped.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: I the amount of the amount of self-control you must have had.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could if I was there, especially if we were drinking, boy, would we be obnoxious.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Well, and we had a guy behind us that was like, Oh, the refs gave it to you.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: And I just like I was like, Okay, I give you a little bit every win this season, it's bizarre.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Like, really, you're gonna say the refs are favoring Texas tech.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: That's are you serious?
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: That's really fans.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: There's always those fans that complain about the refs, but especially like uh the what are in the UT game wherever UT fans were saying that's like seriously the irony, you know.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for real.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Like, but LSU played great, man.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: You gotta give them credit because uh their their two guards there, Cam Thomas and Javante Smart.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Both those dudes went for Cam Thomas 25, Javante Smart 29.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, their other guy that I mentioned in the in the preview pod, uh, Trend Wadford had a terrible game.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: They're forward.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: We did a great job on him.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Two of 11 from the field.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: He fouled out, and he got that technical foul that really kind of swung the momentum back in tech's favor.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, but really the game changer in this one was when Darius Days went out, and that was one of the LSU's bigger guys.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: He was killing us all game.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, rebounds, he was hitting shots from outside, he was doing pretty much all of it, and he went down with I think a knee injury, and that kind of just put uh put a different sort of force with the Red Raiders to kind of make this comeback and push for it at the end there.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: You're exactly right.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: LLC wanted that win really bad, and you can tell they had the energy the entire game, and it for it looked like we didn't want to be there for the most part.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: Like you just the motivation just didn't look like it was on our side at all.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Um, but a classic halftime readjustments really pulled us up in the end.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: So uh great win, man, in an in a tough place to play.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Uh especially I mean during the COVID season, it was like one of the louder places we played.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: So, because you could hear it on the TV.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: But man, I bet it feels really good to record this podcast from the red stick right now, don't it?
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, it feels great, it feels so good.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: We went we partied afterwards, met up with Jackson from Ramblin' Raiders, had a great time, went to a few different spots and had had had a beer or or two.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: A couple sodas, a couple sodas, but uh no, we had a great time.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: It was fantastic meeting all his buds that were LSU guys, AM guys.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: He had buds from all over, so uh good to meet that group over there and and just have a ball, man.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: It was fun.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: I wish I was there.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: All right, man.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: But next time, next time, next time, next time it'll happen.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: But let's talk OU.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because this game was two days after that big comeback win against LSU.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: OU ranked nine at the time.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: They're coming on now.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Uh there were mixed feelings coming in this game because Austin Reeves, their their best scorer and probably best player overall, out with COVID stuff.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: They had another uh top five score on the team out, I think uh uh Alondis Williams or something like that.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: But they just came off a big win against Bama, and Bama ranked number nine in the country the previous week in the Big 12 SEC challenge.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: So OU was still scrappy, they still got a lot of good guys on this team.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: This wasn't uh it it may have not been OU at full strength, but it's still a very good OU team.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: You can totally see how this OU team beat the teams that be for us.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: You can totally see how they were on that hot streak, and with their the we're lucky that they came in and faced our rock solid defense and uh played in the USA, baby.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but no, that's that's a good point.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, what would the game have been different had those players been on the court?
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: Maybe, but uh, I'm really happy that we were able to catch OU and get that sweep.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: That's back to back sweeps, by the way.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: That's awesome, man.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Going two years in a row.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Anytime you're being a big program like Oklahoma and sweeping them in in the season series, that's that's just a good feeling.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: While they're at football school, they do have a solid uh uh basketball program, so it still feels really good.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: No doubt, and this was a change of pace from the last.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Couple games.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're talking the West Virginia game and the LSU game before this, where it was high scoring, a lot of offense going on, not a lot of defense.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: And so this was a nice little change of pace.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: It was man, it was kind of grit and grindy.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech basketball, Chris Beard, defensive, you know, slug fest basketball.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: I know, and to win these type of games, man.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: 57-52, seeing that score, seeing, you know, in the 50s and the 60s.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: That's that's the Texas Tech team that went to the national championship, man.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: That the whole time when I the score was so dang low, it's like, darn it, our offense is so bad.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: But it's like, oh my god, our defense is so good.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: But I mean, that's obviously where Chris Beard likes to be.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he really likes the shootouts.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: So that's in that's in his wheelhouse.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: That's in his wheelhouse for sure.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he likes uh him and Mark Adams, they love the defense.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: So if they can, you know, play a game where where you keep Oklahoma shooting, I think they shot 33% that entire game.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, you'd like to shoot better as your, you know, you want your offense to play better than what they did, but to for the defensive game and for them to get that confidence back and that kind of uh mindset back, it's it's only good stuff, man.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Uh again, another one that makes you grit your teeth to the ends, you know, sweaty palms at the very end again.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Is that how every single game is gonna be?
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: Uh that's how it has, that's how it is decided that we that we have to play every game close.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get there, but I swear if that this K-State game coming up is like this, I'm gonna lose my mind.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna feel like I'm getting raised.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: I think my hair's coming out.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: It cannot be like we played K-State last time because K-State was just as bad of a team.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: We played them in Lovick, and it was like they were leading in the second half.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: And it's like, guys, come on, please.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: No, but to finish off OU, big Kevin McCullough game.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: He was great this whole game.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: 13 and 8, four steals, went five of six from the free throw line.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: I had it hit a couple three-pointers there uh from the corner.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And we survived when Mac McClung didn't make a field goal.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: So uh that shows a lot for this team, and it shows a lot about the role guys.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: I I and I told you uh before the game, I was like, I want to see some different offensive output.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: I want to see not uh not Terrence Shannon and Mac McClung scoring half of our team's points.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: I want to see Kevin McCullough get involved, I want to see uh Marcus Santosilva get involved, Jamarius, whoever, Clarence and the Dolney, like guys like that to get involved, and and really they held it down in that second half.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure you get most excited whenever our bench guys go off.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's great.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Is that just a Spurs fan in you, you think?
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Or what do you think?
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: It may be, man.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: I love seeing, I love seeing when the whole roster contributes.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: I mean just seeing stuff that you don't normally see, you know, guy getting confidence up for those guys like Clarence and Tyreek Smith, who had some who had a not a big not a big scoring output, but grab big rebounds, man.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: He was yeah, he was awesome this game.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Getting those guys off the bench because you know your starting five only goes so long, but if you get that extra three to four guys off your bench, then your team really starts rolling.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: And we're we're one of those rare teams where you can look at the the the scoreboard at the end and be like, holy cow, that many off the bench.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: It happens all the time with Tekken feels like like that's Chris Beard's thing, and I love that about him.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: He makes so many substitutions, he he doesn't, you know, he doesn't force guys to play a whole ton of minutes a lot of the time.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, guys like Kyler are on the court a lot, and uh Mac obviously on the court a lot, but uh you know, just for the those, you know, five minutes on the bench that those guys can rest and it we're not like horribly outmatched, it's just a uh real positive for your team.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so we're we're we're going off on how awesome things are.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: What's going on with Micah Pv?
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: He just he's young and he's Micah is a different kind of player.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: He looks, and I was I was telling you this in our group text that we have while the game was going on, but he looks like a football player.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, he doesn't move with much fluidity, he's kind of like, and and I don't know if that's necessarily a good sometimes that works out for him because he's a super aggressive guy and he gets some offensive rebounds, gets some big time tip-ins every once in a while.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: But uh man, he's he's really challenged kind of offensively.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: And you know, he's he's not he's not very uh what's the word?
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: He's not like I don't want to say like a ballerina, he doesn't need to be like a ballerina, but he needs to be like at least, you know, kind of uh finesse.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: He needs to be finesse with it sometimes.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: And sometimes his movements are just so sharp and he's so and I don't know.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: So are you saying you you're gonna you think you're gonna expect more as he he gets more time within a college training staff?
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Well, and that's what you hope, but some guys it's natural and it's hard and it's hard to fix that type of stuff.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: And and when you're just talking about his movement being not there, that's a hard thing to fix.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: You can fix shooting and you can fix you know uh where to be on the court, you know, positionally and that kind of stuff, uh boxing out.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: You can fix that kind of stuff, but uh just the way he moves and and I don't know.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: I'm worried about Micah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: I I was I liked Micah a lot more earlier in the season than I did now.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: And uh I was I was reading uh you know some tweets from some uh Texas Tech guys that were saying how Micah his leash is so much longer than any of the other freshman sophomores younger guys.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's got a longer leash, he can make more mistakes with Chris Beard.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: And this may be a testament to how much Chris Beard likes Micah, it's obviously a testament to how much he likes Micah Peavy and how hard he works and and you know what he does in practice and the weight room and that kind of stuff.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: But you know, guys like Clarence, if they make a mistake, they're benched.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: And guys like Tyreek Smith, if they make a mistake, they're benched.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: And Micah gets to make a ton of mistakes and he's not benched, and so that's a little frustrating from a fan's perspective.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Obviously, Chris Beard knows what he's doing, he's one of the best coaches in college basketball.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: So I, you know, that's just me complaining, I guess.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which we we got to do a little criticism with the win.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: So it's just it wasn't perfect, you know.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: No, nothing will be, but it's just uh unfortunately, you know, a lot of players are really coming into their own, but he's just kind of one that just doesn't seem to uh break out yet.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: So yeah, and we've seen leaps before.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, Nor Sodiase, we've mentioned before, did not look like any sort of basketball player at all when he came into tech and ended up being a great contributor to this team.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, I'm not giving up on Micah or anything.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: He's only a freshman still.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: So he's 19 years old or whatever.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: He's 19 years old.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Like he's got time to get his stuff together now for this season.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, we'll see, we'll see how it progresses going forward.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: But I do like his toughness.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: He's got toughness, and and that's and that's a hard quality to uh to just learn in somebody.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: I had one more thing about this OU game.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: I like the gray uniforms.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: The gray uniforms get got way too much flack that whole entire I that was I saw so many tweets of everybody saying gray ain't it, the gray doesn't work, great on work did whatever.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: It looks like crap.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: The gray uniforms look good.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: All right, I'm not gonna say they look bad, but they're worse than the red ones, the worst in the white ones, and they're worse than the black ones.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, how about that?
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I guess they are the worst.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: They're uh but saying they're the worst isn't bad, it's not like they're a bad uniform.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: It's not like like I saw tweets that were saying my eyes hurt from watching this.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: It's like no, the gray is a nice change every once in a while.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying we need to wear the gray uniforms every home game or even every other home or whatever.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Wear them once a year.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: I like when we switch it up a little bit.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: This is your own battle.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Whenever you were switching up a little bit, switch from the moderns to the throwbacks.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I just I'm not a huge fan of using colors that aren't yours.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: That's always kind of been my butt beef.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: And gray isn't really one of our colors.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: They look good.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm saying.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Is they were they actually looked good when you're looking at the uniform, they did not look bad.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And you wouldn't you have been a little more about it if it was a good ass throwback?
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Well, sure.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: The throwbacks are some of the best uniforms.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: But if you're just a throwback, but switch it up.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of games in a season, man.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: You can switch it up every once in a while.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: It's like we don't have to complain just because we're going gray.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: Some bull, some absolute bull.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: I'll take this to the grave.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: I was not alone.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: 23 personnel was in with me.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: A couple other people responded to the tweet and said they were in.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: So I'm not alone, but I am the minority, and I'm okay with that.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: All right, all right.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: But all right, a couple previews.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: The Texas and Gray Raiders.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: I hate you.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Uh Kansas State coming up next, Saturday, 3 p.m.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: They did not specify a network yet.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: We said earlier in the pod Kansas State is trash.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: They are not good.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: They're one and nine in the Big 12.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: They have lost nine straight, all of which have been by double digits, except for the TCU loss, which was by seven, and then the unfortunate loss to Texas AM in the Big 12 SEC challenge.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Kansas State, you're letting us down.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: You guys suck, but AM also sucks, so you should have won that game.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: That that that feels bad, man.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: And uh it ended up in a L to the Big 12 against the SEC.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: But to be fair, U2 probably would have smoked Kentucky.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, they would have absolutely smoked Knowledge.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: It would have ended up in a tie.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: But yeah, if we're talking teams that let us down the challenge, West Virginia, who we're gonna get to in a bit, let us down by losing unranked Florida.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Kansas got railed by Tennessee, Iowa State is awful.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're so bad.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: They haven't won a single conference game.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: It's they're they've won two games all year, they're stupid bad.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which is so strange for a program like Iowa State, but I know what a fall, man, for them.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: But this is not an anti-Iowa State podcast.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: It is not a pro-Texas Tech podcast, and I with Kansas State this coming Saturday, uh, they really only have two guys that's average double figures in scoring, and that's Mike McGurl and Nigel Pack, both of which are guards.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: Uh they're just not good, man.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: They they're very young, too.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: They start three freshmen and a sophomore and one senior.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: They're they only have like two or three juniors and seniors on this team.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: So uh they're just not good, and we need to take advantage.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: I'd like to see a big time blowout, man.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's about time.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: We we touched on this uh during the OEU recap.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: I I there's there's not much to say on this, other than this better not look like the last time we played them, where we're so much better than them, and we we need to walk into Manhattan and just smoke them up.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, need to ride the momentum.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: I'd like to see Mac get rolling again, get a good offensive showing from he needs an easy bounce back.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, from having a down game, you know, take advantage of this young team and these guards that are super inferior uh compared to our players.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Um, and just you know, get the ball rolling again, man.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Take advantage and win win your third straight game.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Yep, and uh that'll hopefully claw us back in the Big 12 standings because right now it doesn't reflect how good we are.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: So we need an easy dub and it better be a blowout.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: But the real game that we're coming into is gonna be West Virginia taking place next Tuesday, the February 9th, uh at 8 p.m.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: They announced the time.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: No network has been specified yet, but West Virginia ranks 17 in the nation.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, they will probably have a new ranking by the time you know stuff comes out, and we will too.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: But uh right now, at least West Virginia's 12 and 5 overall, 5-3 in the Big 12.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: Um, and they're looking ever since our game, they've kind of been looking rough.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: They haven't really been getting the offense going like they have in previous weeks.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Like I said earlier, lost to Florida, an unranked Florida team in the SEC Big 12 challenge.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: And then they just played Iowa State very, very close.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: And Iowa State, like we said, is not good.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: So West Virginia kind of blowing it there.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, I have to mention uh Miles McBride, the guy that went off against us, 24 points against us the last game, has scored just nine apiece in the past two games.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: So uh I don't I don't know why he chose us to to go absolutely nuts on, but uh I'm still upset about it.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Is it just me or do other teams just have this insane luck at three against us?
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah there's yeah, I think there has to be a little bit of a luck factor, but there's also moments where we just have not have not switched, you know, tight enough, we're not quick enough to get to their spot, and they're taking advantage.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: And West Virginia, we just didn't play good defense that game.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, we played decent inside on Derek Culver, but uh, you know, their guards were absolutely yeah, worse, much worse, culver.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yeah, man, we just kind of play better defense in this one and played like we did against OU, and we should be fine.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: West Virginia is not a better team than us.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I don't believe it.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a revenge game, too.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: It's a revenge game in the USA.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: I'm sure our players are really, really upset about what happened in uh Morgantown.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: So I I feel pretty good about this one coming in.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: I kind of I feel I feel really good about the projection of our team right now because I really, really like these tight wins because it just shows how in it we are.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: So I feel good about it.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: I think we're gonna come to this podcast next week, uh, two and oh uh, on these.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: I hope so, man.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, we better at least beat K-State and then play West Virginia good.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Um, but we'll see.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like you said, revenge game.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Let's let's get her done, man.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Let's get let's get mad, let's get the crowd involved and let's just uh our crowd's been great, by the way.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: They have, they have.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech always shows out.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: They they even showed out LSU a little bit.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, it wasn't like your normal, like if the game was in like DFW or Houston or something like that, but they showed out, man.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: There was there were some people, there were some people in the PMAC.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: So I'm sure we got alumni in Louisiana, so yeah, get them out.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: So probably pretty good visit for them in East Texas.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: For sure, for sure.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: So I think that's it for sports, man, unless you had anything else.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think that'll cover it, dude.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: I think right now it's just good vibes.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: I think we're looking good right now, man.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: And uh, I think that'll do it for me.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: I had two shouts out before we get to songs of the week.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: I do too.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, okay, we'll go.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll kind of go back and forth.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, cool.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: My first one, which I think is also one of yours, it might not be.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: EA Sports is bringing back a college football game.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: EA Sports is finally getting their stuff together and bringing back a college football video game.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: Finally, we've been begging for this for forever.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: And notice it's college football, not NCAA football.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, kind of looks like uh the NCAA may not be involved with this one.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and maybe they had to go through some holes and try to go like straight to the conferences and make the deal or straight to the universities and make the deal.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but I'm just glad it's not gonna be for a couple more years, right?
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: But yeah, they went to a licensing group.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: Like apparently, there's this uh licensing group that the majority of schools use for the rights, so they went straight to them, and Texas Tech is a part of it.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Apparently, the complete Big 12 is already included.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: So cool.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: So we'll at least have the Big 12.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so but there's some notable ones missing.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Like Alabama isn't technically on that like trademark club thing, but I'm sure they'll be in it.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: But um, it's uh it's so yeah, well, there's a lot to look forward to, man.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but you're like a year or two away though.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Well, hey, I I can't wait till I can bring tech to a uh virtual national championship.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Many of them, many of them back to back, to back, to back, to back to back.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be really cool to see the Jones and IDAP and stuff.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: That'll be yeah, yeah.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: It'll be cool seeing the new graphics and all that kind of stuff.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's cool, like even with the Madden, you know, being able to go play as Texas tech for that short little game mode, and yeah, just even seeing Patrick Mahomes and stuff in a video game, it's fun, it's fun stuff.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: You don't play him, it's just it's just fun news.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: So, what did you did you have some?
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: That was it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: That was what that was it.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's what I figured.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: That's what I figured yours was.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: But I think just to kind of bounce off that, then I hope that kind of spurs up a college basketball game, too.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: That'd be fun too.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll see.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: We'll see, man, how how it goes.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: But I can tell you what, right now, that if if they're involving, you know, most, if not all of the universities, like that game is gonna sell like insane.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dude.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Since what was the last one?
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: 2014?
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Is that the last?
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gonna totally go on like a back order, like it's gonna be nuts.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to get my hands on it too.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm really looking forward to that.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: So I had one more shout out before we get to songs of the week.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Today is February 3rd, and that day is important because on February 3rd, 1959, is the day the music died, otherwise known as the day Buddy Hawley, Richie Vallins, and the Big Bopper tragically died in the plane crash.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, obviously Buddy Hawley super important to Lubbock, super important to Texas Tech.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, just to get, you know, and and to have that on the anniversary right now as we're recording this podcast, that's uh that's just something I thought I should mention.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Wow, yeah, I thank you for bringing that up.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: I saw that as well, too.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: And man, that Buddy Hawley was way too young to go out like that.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: And that man was that man chan helped change music.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: He helped pretty much make rock and roll what it is now.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: So uh man, what a what a sad day.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: But hey, he's left us with some bangers and his his impression on Lubbock is still there in plain sight.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: So no doubt, no doubt.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: You're the people still mention Buddy Holly when they're talking about Lovbock.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: So yeah, if that's if that's anything, the the one thing that people know about Lovbock is that Buddy Holly came from there.
- 39:35SPEAKER_01: So uh wanted to shout that out, you know, on the on the day the music died.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: So okay, Tristan, why don't you give me your song of the week?
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Well, you know what?
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go ahead and bounce out uh off your shout out.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: I have to do a Buddy Holly song now.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, go ahead.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: That'll be the day by Buddy Holly.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: It's a jam, it's easy to sing to, it's one of his more popular ones.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: So if you've never heard Buddy Holly, this is a great place to start.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: And you'll you'll really hear his his the West Texas in his voice, and he's just you'll see how he's really influenced rock and roll that we know it.
- 40:12SPEAKER_05: You know it's a light cause.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: That'll be the day when I die away.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Right on, go give that a listen.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Shouts out, buddy Holly.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: So, my song of the week, since I was just in uh a little place called Louisiana.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, I figured I would do Louisiana Saturday night by Mel McDaniels.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Great jam.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: They play it all the time over here in Baton Rouge.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, we had a great actual Louisiana Saturday night with uh Jackson from Ramblin Raiders and all of his buddies, and me and my girlfriend Kristen, and we had a great time.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: So now my song of the week is Louisiana Saturday night.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: Well, you get down the fiddle and you get down the boat, kick off your shoes and you throw them in the floor, dance in the kitchen till the morning light.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Louisiana Saturday night.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: All right, man.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: That was a very appropriate song of the week segment.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: I think that's one of the most appropriate outside of Christmas.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: That was good.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: We're killing it.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Christmas still counts.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: So you repeat it already.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: It does not count.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Counted.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: The people have spoken.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Does not count.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: All right, man.
