- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:04Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell mom Hello, and welcome to No Dribble. I
- 0:23Speaker 2: am on my own in Sydney this week. It's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Catherine is apparently on an aeroplane somewhere. We don't know where.
- 0:31Speaker 2: She had to go to Adelaide on the weekend, then
- 0:33Speaker 2: she was back to Sydney, and then she had to
- 0:34Speaker 2: go to Melbourne and we've all lost track of where
- 0:36Speaker 2: she is at the moment. But fear not, although I
- 0:39Speaker 2: am alone in this room, even and male producer is
- 0:42Speaker 2: not here, I am not alone in this conversation because
- 0:45Speaker 2: obviously we have way up on the far North Coast.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We have lizz Ellis and I want to know what
- 0:51Speaker 1: being on an aeroplane is a euphemism for for Catherine.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And of course everybody knows that laugh. Now that is Scordi,
- 1:00Speaker 2: who has generously given us some time to join us
- 1:03Speaker 2: again for the conversation.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I feel like I never get to introduce myself properly
- 1:06Speaker 3: because I laugh or snort before my name.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Can we do it again. Then I'm going to say, so,
- 1:12Speaker 2: let's just everyone pretend that they didn't hear Gordy's voice then,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and I say, on the far North Coast we have Lizella's.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But fear not, it's not just the two of us either,
- 1:21Speaker 2: because joining us from the wild West is.
- 1:24Speaker 3: The Dubai obsessed super Audien.
- 1:29Speaker 2: This this is getting out of hand.
- 1:31Speaker 3: It is controlling my entire existence. Everywhere I go, I'm
- 1:34Speaker 3: getting DMS from people I've never met that are telling
- 1:37Speaker 3: me about Dubai chocolate. It's extraordinary.
- 1:39Speaker 2: So the package we sent you that's gone, that's history.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Do you know the one thing that hasn't gone? And
- 1:44Speaker 3: I said that next time i'd come on, I would
- 1:46Speaker 3: review it. But I try to drink. I just keep
- 1:50Speaker 3: I keep staring at it, and I'm nervous. I don't know.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It's something if you put some alcohol into sort of
- 1:56Speaker 1: make it sit down a bit better.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I said a rhetorical question, Liz.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Perhaps Carolyn needs to come up with like a pistachio cocktail.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Interesting, So I'm happy to try anything. When we were
- 2:09Speaker 2: in Hawaii a few years ago, I saw a bottle
- 2:12Speaker 2: of bacon soda. So this is bacon flavored soft drink,
- 2:17Speaker 2: so we got that. It was as disgusting as you
- 2:19Speaker 2: would expect. There was some cheetos, KFC Burger combo yep,
- 2:24Speaker 2: try that. Yesterday. I'm in a petrol station dust near
- 2:27Speaker 2: Brisbane Airport and I saw sour blueberry twisties and I've
- 2:33Speaker 2: found the line I'm not I know, and they have
- 2:37Speaker 2: said on the packet turns your tongue blue. And so
- 2:41Speaker 2: that's the best thing they could find to say about
- 2:43Speaker 2: this product.
- 2:44Speaker 4: What they don't say about that is it also turns.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Your shit, wouldn't it.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Who the hell sits there and comes up with this
- 2:53Speaker 3: stuff exactly.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I'm quite an adventurous eater, but I'm not an adventurous
- 2:58Speaker 1: processed fast food Like I wouldn't I go nowhere near
- 3:02Speaker 1: bacon soda. But I've been quite happy to taste like
- 3:05Speaker 1: guinea pig and lama and things like that.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Well, I've been traveling, like I love a bit of
- 3:10Speaker 4: you know.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Why, a bit of cricket or something totally.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I would eat those deep fried spiders and stuff. That's easy.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, correct, that's why. But isn't that funny?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Like I'm quite happy to swallow like eyeballs and ratstale
- 3:25Speaker 1: on Celebrity. But there is just no way that I
- 3:28Speaker 1: could come at bacon soda.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Like I put this on my Instagram and had a
- 3:31Speaker 2: number of people say no, step away from It's like
- 3:33Speaker 2: I didn't buy it. I am not putting money towards that.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And it's like even if someone said to me, you
- 3:39Speaker 2: don't have to spend any money on it, do you
- 3:41Speaker 2: want to try one? I'm a no twisties. I'm a no.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I just and look I love a chicken twisty. I
- 3:46Speaker 2: got to say, I'm probably I missed the chicken twisties.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's not like I'm just a strip cheese twisty gal.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But this, to me, we've gone too far, too far.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I blame my parents, Liz, I blame my parents.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Steak three veies, that's it. Usually a bit of potato,
- 4:08Speaker 3: you know, you carry it your water and then just
- 4:10Speaker 3: Dad burning the hell out of the steak out in
- 4:13Speaker 3: the garage with the smoke going like the fire of
- 4:16Speaker 3: the gab. We're about to come.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Have we covered this? How do you have your steak now?
- 4:20Speaker 3: I have it medium. I really struggle with medium, rare,
- 4:24Speaker 3: and then when it goes too well done, even though
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't like it. It just takes me back to
- 4:29Speaker 3: Mum and Dad. So I coat with it. Yeah, but
- 4:31Speaker 3: I sit right in the middle.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Well that's good, that's quite mature. I was going to
- 4:36Speaker 1: ask you, what's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? Because
- 4:39Speaker 1: I know you're not a very adventurous thing.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Well, firstly, i'm you know, I don't eat seafeed. I'm
- 4:44Speaker 3: allergic to seafeed, so that knocks out quite a bit.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Do you know the most adventurous thing I would have
- 4:49Speaker 3: eaten was, and I didn't know I was eating it,
- 4:51Speaker 3: and it's really not even adventurous, was when I was
- 4:53Speaker 3: in Singapore and I had I think liver or something
- 4:58Speaker 3: in one of the dishes and and then it pretty
- 5:01Speaker 3: much ended up on the middle of the share table, like,
- 5:04Speaker 3: oh terrible. I thought I was having I think it
- 5:06Speaker 3: was beef, and what was.
- 5:07Speaker 4: That taking kidney or something?
- 5:10Speaker 3: No, no, not saying kid like you know, a sturf
- 5:12Speaker 3: fried dish, beef and promptly beef. But they put it
- 5:16Speaker 3: in with with liver, and so I just hoed into
- 5:18Speaker 3: it and then it was way too soft. There was
- 5:20Speaker 3: no chewiness, just like so.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Like when I when I first started dating the meat Train,
- 5:28Speaker 1: first started dating Matthew. He was We went to visit
- 5:32Speaker 1: his parents and it was one of the first times
- 5:34Speaker 1: I went up there. And they lived on a farm
- 5:35Speaker 1: and his dad was a farmer, and his dad was
- 5:37Speaker 1: just this old died in the wool farmer. But he
- 5:41Speaker 1: just had this really naughty streak and he used to
- 5:44Speaker 1: He just used to find ways to try and annoy me,
- 5:46Speaker 1: which maybe just adore him even more.
- 5:49Speaker 4: But I love corned beef.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And he just tricked me one day to eat this stuff.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And it's like, it's corn beef. I'm like, no, it's not,
- 5:55Speaker 1: yes yesterdays, so and I ate it. And then he
- 5:58Speaker 1: just killed himself laughing because it was tongue.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Oh I love tongue. It's delicious.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Well, I like it too now, but at the time
- 6:05Speaker 4: I was like, oh, I.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And it's not fair, an awful ambush. That's not fair.
- 6:09Speaker 2: You're got to have awful consent. Like it's sort of quite.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I don't love awful, but I'm willing to go if
- 6:15Speaker 2: you've done this in a particular way, I will be
- 6:17Speaker 2: open minded. I will give it another try. But corn
- 6:20Speaker 2: beef is a problem for mez because when I started
- 6:22Speaker 2: dating my husband, he's from Orange, and we were driving
- 6:25Speaker 2: out to meet and I was meeting his parents for
- 6:28Speaker 2: the first time. This is twenty years ago, and I said,
- 6:31Speaker 2: your parents used to be honest with their farmers, Like
- 6:34Speaker 2: I wonder if your mama make a corn beef because
- 6:35Speaker 2: I hadn't had corn beef in forever. We got there,
- 6:38Speaker 2: she'd made corn beef. I lost my mind because it's like,
- 6:42Speaker 2: oh my god, you've made corn beef. They love me.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I cannot go to Orange without her making goddamn corn
- 6:50Speaker 2: beef now because I made such a production of it.
- 6:52Speaker 2: This is her love language for me. The children hate
- 6:55Speaker 2: it like I like it, but I don't want it
- 6:58Speaker 2: every single time. And I like it, you know, a
- 7:00Speaker 2: bit of a surprise every now and then to not
- 7:02Speaker 2: have corn beef, for instance. So don't go too hard
- 7:06Speaker 2: on meeting the partner's parents and being too complimentary about
- 7:09Speaker 2: the cooking, because it can set you up for failure.
- 7:12Speaker 3: I think I'm about to embarrass, but you know it is.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Let's give it a crack corn. I know what corned
- 7:18Speaker 3: beef is. I don't like it. Mahoney, Joan used to
- 7:21Speaker 3: make it. What why is it called corned beef. But
- 7:24Speaker 3: what does the corn?
- 7:26Speaker 2: It's something in the salting process, so you cook it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: It's called salted beef elsewhere. I obviously missed that salted beef.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I just I didn't know if you cooked it in
- 7:37Speaker 3: a corn bron.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I don't really know why, but it's a blind that
- 7:42Speaker 2: you cook it in. And yeah, so certainly Jamie Oliver
- 7:46Speaker 2: has got a great recipe for salted beef and it's
- 7:50Speaker 2: the same, the same thing. But I don't know, Liz, do.
- 7:52Speaker 1: You know, well, there's no corn in corn beef. Let's
- 7:55Speaker 1: just away excellent. Corn is another word for pickled or
- 7:59Speaker 1: for preserved.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Right, So you're right.
- 8:01Speaker 1: It's a brining process and it's assaulting process that makes it.
- 8:04Speaker 4: I just laughed that Gord.
- 8:05Speaker 1: He thought there might have been some actual corn involved,
- 8:08Speaker 1: which there should be a label.
- 8:09Speaker 4: No corn was harmed in the making of.
- 8:11Speaker 3: This con beef. And I think what this confirms is
- 8:14Speaker 3: I will never be writing a rescue book.
- 8:17Speaker 2: No.
- 8:17Speaker 4: I love corn beef.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I cook it up often because when we kill a
- 8:21Speaker 1: beast and get it all cut up, we do.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I'm going to send you this recipe because I had
- 8:24Speaker 2: it in the UK and it is insanely good. But
- 8:27Speaker 2: you start the process, the corning process a week in advance, and.
- 8:31Speaker 4: It is Oh, you get the butcher.
- 8:32Speaker 2: It is so tender and so delicious.
- 8:37Speaker 4: You get the butcher. Do that, and then I cook
- 8:38Speaker 4: my corn beef in ginger beer. It's great.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Oh now now we're talking what.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Cook it in ginger beer with some golden syrup and
- 8:47Speaker 1: it's fantastic.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Oh, Elizabeth, Yeah, I think it might have just converted
- 8:51Speaker 3: me without trying.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Susan, there are many, but let's stick to it.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I don't understand this conversation.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Now, So the ginger beer, the conversion that.
- 9:07Speaker 2: You've just got on board. I don't like this thing,
- 9:09Speaker 2: but let's do it in Let's let's add a whole
- 9:11Speaker 2: heap more sugar, and suddenly I'm in It's It doesn't
- 9:13Speaker 2: turn it into Dubai chocolate. It's still corn beef, fright.
- 9:16Speaker 3: So but then I know, I know it just sounds different.
- 9:20Speaker 3: It's just like I don't know the corn. I think
- 9:21Speaker 3: it was the Brian, Like, I know, I kind of
- 9:24Speaker 3: got that bit, but that that just makes me feel ill.
- 9:27Speaker 3: But when you're talking ginger beer different, stri it's just
- 9:31Speaker 3: like it's kind of modernizesn't it. I don't know. I
- 9:33Speaker 3: don't know anyhow, I'll give it a crack.
- 9:36Speaker 2: You know, you cook it, and I'm willing to be
- 9:37Speaker 2: okay minded. But I just feel like we went straight
- 9:40Speaker 2: past curiosity into commitment here, and I think that's something
- 9:43Speaker 2: wrong with society. It's like we're embracing this. We don't
- 9:46Speaker 2: know anything about it. Do your own race.
- 9:48Speaker 3: It was like my childhood, just like.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Your teenage.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Cooks. Anyhow.
- 9:56Speaker 2: So did you find the Dubai chocolate in Adelaide?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Yes? I did, I did, And you know what, like
- 10:01Speaker 3: I have been for some time, I do call Adelaide Radelaide.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I had my moments with Radelaide as a place. Sometimes
- 10:08Speaker 3: I enjoy it and sometimes I don't. But I will
- 10:10Speaker 3: say on this weekend being over there, I got a
- 10:13Speaker 3: chance to head to the central markets in Adelaide and
- 10:15Speaker 3: they're just so good, like really good. I could have
- 10:18Speaker 3: spent half a day there just looking at all the
- 10:20Speaker 3: produce and you know, looking for corned beef, et cetera.
- 10:23Speaker 3: But yeah, I did. I found it at the Mediterranean
- 10:27Speaker 3: Turkish Delight place. But the irony of this story is
- 10:30Speaker 3: that we were staying at the Pullman Hotel in the
- 10:32Speaker 3: middle of Adelaide, and you know, it's only a couple
- 10:36Speaker 3: of k walk to the market. It was no big deal.
- 10:39Speaker 3: But how do I just come out of my hotel
- 10:40Speaker 3: turned right right? I actually would have walked straight into
- 10:43Speaker 3: the exact same shop that's at the markets, which was
- 10:46Speaker 3: directly across the road. So and I took a couple
- 10:49Speaker 3: of crew from Fever in everyone bought bars. When we
- 10:53Speaker 3: saw this secondary shop across the road, we went in
- 10:57Speaker 3: and had a bit more of a look and we
- 10:58Speaker 3: were chatting with the that was serving, and I sort
- 11:01Speaker 3: of said to it is this just like is this
- 11:03Speaker 3: going off for you? And she just had this smile
- 11:05Speaker 3: on her face like yes, like selling. In the time
- 11:08Speaker 3: we were in the shop, about six or seven people
- 11:12Speaker 3: walked in and the only thing they purchased was the
- 11:15Speaker 3: Dubai chocolate and left.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So it doesn't need it's not produced in Dubai. That's
- 11:21Speaker 2: not there's no product from Dubai. It is a description.
- 11:25Speaker 2: It's like the French fry. It is reproduced in different ways,
- 11:31Speaker 2: but it's a description of a product rather.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Than well I think what this is. And again I'm
- 11:39Speaker 3: happy to stand corrected on this. However, that Dubai chocolate
- 11:42Speaker 3: that we got in Adelaide, the lady told me, is
- 11:45Speaker 3: made in Turkey and sent out to Australia. The Dubai
- 11:50Speaker 3: chocolate fad has come through TikTok, right, so, and it
- 11:55Speaker 3: was a couple in Dubai who made it. Potentially, I
- 11:58Speaker 3: don't know. It could have originally in Turkey. And then
- 12:01Speaker 3: these guys in Dubai have just kind of socialized, you know,
- 12:04Speaker 3: I like, through social media and of course, and it's
- 12:06Speaker 3: become the Dubai chocolate. So I imagine it's not called
- 12:09Speaker 3: Dubai chocolate in Turkey. Oh yeah, right, last I wouldn't
- 12:13Speaker 3: imagine that. So, but it is now. It is now.
- 12:17Speaker 3: So and I said, I don't know if anyone saw
- 12:19Speaker 3: my socials on the weekend, I wasn't pulling the piece
- 12:22Speaker 3: when I genuinely was opening the Dabai chocolate. It is
- 12:25Speaker 3: like Willie Wonka, like I was a big fan of
- 12:28Speaker 3: Charlie and the chocolate factory growing up.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Or you've slept through it in London, looking.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so good. That's very true. O dear. How
- 12:38Speaker 3: do I have had the Duai chocolate with me? I
- 12:40Speaker 3: may not have, but it is honestly, like opening up
- 12:42Speaker 3: and you're looking for your golden ticket.
- 12:44Speaker 2: It's just the pretty color a key part of the
- 12:48Speaker 2: de Like is that a defining characteristic or is it
- 12:50Speaker 2: just the pistachio that is the defining and the pastry start.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I couldn't care if it wasn't pretty looking.
- 12:58Speaker 3: It's it's definitely the stuff in the middle of Caelifi.
- 13:04Speaker 2: This is the third time you've been on this podcast
- 13:06Speaker 2: and not know you are an Dubai chocolate expert.
- 13:10Speaker 3: That's why I asked what corn I got no idea,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but anyhow, No, it is good. And I had a
- 13:16Speaker 3: couple of people in Adelaide come up to me on
- 13:17Speaker 3: the weekend and show me. One lady showed me a
- 13:19Speaker 3: photo around she was in the supermarket. She came across
- 13:23Speaker 3: as Dubai chocolate like a pudding or something, you know.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I think it was in id or somewhere like that.
- 13:29Speaker 3: And then there was another photo of some cake. So
- 13:31Speaker 3: it's watch out, we're breaking stories here.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I almost bought some on Friday when I went to Brisbane.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I was going up for a friend's birthday and then
- 13:39Speaker 2: an old family friend passed away and so I thought, well,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'll pull my trip forward and go to the funeral
- 13:44Speaker 2: as well. But my flight arrived at ten past one,
- 13:47Speaker 2: the funeral is at two. So I've done all the
- 13:49Speaker 2: pre check in for my rental car. It's I can
- 13:51Speaker 2: make this. It's a twenty twenty nine minute drive. I
- 13:54Speaker 2: can make this if I'm super efficient. So I got
- 13:56Speaker 2: off the plane, charged straight over to get my rental
- 13:59Speaker 2: car and I went past the shop and they had
- 14:01Speaker 2: a display out the front of the full Dubai chocolate.
- 14:04Speaker 2: And I'm not a big chocolate fan, but Catherine's just
- 14:06Speaker 2: been down the Link Chocolate Dubai chocolate path, and I
- 14:10Speaker 2: don't think that that's she's had the pure experience yet.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So I thought, I'm not going to get it now.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I'm going to get it on Sunday when I come
- 14:17Speaker 2: back through. So of course, when I went through on Sunday,
- 14:20Speaker 2: it was all bloody sold out and they had no
- 14:22Speaker 2: record of ever having had it. So now I'm wondering
- 14:24Speaker 2: whether I was imagining it. But how good is this?
- 14:27Speaker 2: I went to get my rental car. I was all
- 14:29Speaker 2: pre registered, all of the paperwork was done, and I
- 14:32Speaker 2: got to the counter. There was no one there. I
- 14:34Speaker 2: was actually prepared to that. I never do this, but
- 14:36Speaker 2: I thought, if there's people in front of me, I'm
- 14:37Speaker 2: going to say, would anyone mind if I went next?
- 14:40Speaker 2: I'm trying to get to a funeral. And I was
- 14:41Speaker 2: clearly dressed for a funeral. But I didn't have to
- 14:43Speaker 2: do that when Frank starts helping me out. Frank's a
- 14:47Speaker 2: lovely guy. Frank not the fastest worker I've ever seen.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And I did say again, knowing that this can back
- 14:54Speaker 2: my on your face, I said, look, I'm really sorry.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I'm trying to get to a funeral too. If there's
- 14:58Speaker 2: any way we can expedite this process, I'd be really grateful.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And he said, no problem, and then continued to work
- 15:05Speaker 2: at exactly the same pace that he had been working before. Anyway,
- 15:09Speaker 2: Eventually he says, it's a white camera. It's out at
- 15:12Speaker 2: C seventeen. I said, keiser in. He said, yet Keyser
- 15:14Speaker 2: in it. So I race out there and there's cars
- 15:16Speaker 2: up there. Ce twenty to twenty three. Here we go.
- 15:18Speaker 2: He's see he's nineteen and down. So I go and
- 15:22Speaker 2: get into white camera. I race out. It's like, yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 2: perfect timing. The bloody boomgate won't open, and Frank comes out.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Frank's again very calm, very helpful. But apparently I'd got
- 15:33Speaker 2: the C sixteen white camera, not the C seventeen cameray.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And he said, leave the car here, I'll move it.
- 15:39Speaker 2: You go and get the other one. I said, no, no,
- 15:40Speaker 2: I'm moving the car. It's fine. I did so I
- 15:42Speaker 2: reversed it back, put it back in the parking space,
- 15:44Speaker 2: the worst parking space, worst park anyone has ever done.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Moved over into C sixteen and another employee comes over,
- 15:52Speaker 2: knocks on I got into C seventeen rather the right one.
- 15:55Speaker 2: He knocks on the window, points at the car that
- 15:57Speaker 2: I just park and said, did you park that? Yes?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Actually I did, and I really don't need you judgment
- 16:03Speaker 2: at this moment. Anyway, I got out and I made
- 16:06Speaker 2: it to the funeral on time. But you know, there
- 16:09Speaker 2: was no way Frank was going to be doing things
- 16:10Speaker 2: on my timetable, and I maybe I could have got
- 16:13Speaker 2: the Dubai chocolate in the end, but cat, sorry, I failed.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Did you does Frank work? It hurts?
- 16:23Speaker 2: Frank was delightful and I'm very grateful for his help,
- 16:26Speaker 2: but yeah, oh man, and it's just and I'm getting
- 16:30Speaker 2: wound up. And then I just thought, I'm not a
- 16:32Speaker 2: main cast member at this funeral. If I'm late and
- 16:34Speaker 2: I stand in the back, it won't make any difference
- 16:37Speaker 2: to anyone. I need to calm down.
- 16:39Speaker 1: So and all persons you died, they really be on
- 16:42Speaker 1: caring about whether you're on time or not.
- 16:44Speaker 2: That's exactly right. So Gordie, in spite of this conversation,
- 16:50Speaker 2: you did not actually go to Adelaide in search of
- 16:53Speaker 2: Dubai chocolate. There was a netball.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Well, yes there was. I mean I would have gone
- 16:57Speaker 3: to Adelaide just for the chocolate. But there was a game, yes,
- 17:00Speaker 3: played Thunderbirds, and our dear friend Catherine Cox was commentating
- 17:03Speaker 3: that game. So I did happen to give her half
- 17:07Speaker 3: of the block of the Dubai chocolate. So what we
- 17:09Speaker 3: can say is she potentially, by this point in time,
- 17:12Speaker 3: will have had a taste of what we say is
- 17:15Speaker 3: close to.
- 17:15Speaker 2: The popped a cherry hat, pop the cherry.
- 17:18Speaker 3: But just quickly before we speak about that game, which
- 17:21Speaker 3: was a bit of a ripper on the weekend, I
- 17:23Speaker 3: guess for Fever for one point because they won. I'll
- 17:26Speaker 3: tell you what Catherine cost. We all know that she
- 17:28Speaker 3: lives her life through social media. But you cannot escape it, right,
- 17:34Speaker 3: So I'm driving the team bus into the loading you're
- 17:37Speaker 3: driving it and the big yeah, like we've got like
- 17:40Speaker 3: four or five cars right, like you know the eight
- 17:43Speaker 3: seeds tend.
- 17:44Speaker 2: It's not a big pan.
- 17:46Speaker 3: So I'm no, no, no, no, that wasn't fit in
- 17:49Speaker 3: this area. So the loading dock at the at the
- 17:52Speaker 3: Adelaide Entertainment Center, once you put the broadcast man in there,
- 17:56Speaker 3: there isn't a lot of parking space. So anyhow we've
- 17:59Speaker 3: got a kind of squeeze and reversing. And I would say,
- 18:02Speaker 3: in fairness, this reverse park was potentially around about a
- 18:06Speaker 3: ten point turn to get in out, get in and
- 18:10Speaker 3: get out. So I let everybody get out and they
- 18:13Speaker 3: can go in and get start getting ready just so
- 18:14Speaker 3: that I can reverse in nicely. And as I'm reversing,
- 18:17Speaker 3: it might have been about the fourth or fifth time,
- 18:19Speaker 3: and I come back out, who's standing there with their
- 18:22Speaker 3: cameras the whole thing to put on social media. I
- 18:27Speaker 3: look up and Cox is there, I all made up,
- 18:30Speaker 3: looking beautiful for commentary. And if there's not a shaking
- 18:33Speaker 3: in the phone as she's feeling, because she is rolling
- 18:36Speaker 3: laughing at me, trying to park this bloody car. Right,
- 18:39Speaker 3: So I'm back and forth and back and forth. Eventually
- 18:40Speaker 3: I get there and then of course I get home
- 18:42Speaker 3: that night and I'm going through my socials and I
- 18:44Speaker 3: have a look Cox, see what she's been up to,
- 18:46Speaker 3: and there's me. You know, it's bloody trying to park the.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Blair Witch project of Subordian parking at the adelaide Edgertavid.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Said, God, yeah, she does not let you get away
- 18:59Speaker 3: with any no.
- 19:00Speaker 1: So when we were in the Hub during the pandemic,
- 19:04Speaker 1: so her and I roomed together, right, and so Channel
- 19:08Speaker 1: nine had said to us, okay, you two you just
- 19:11Speaker 1: have to go to Brisbane for the length of this hub.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Leave your families, leave your homes, leave everything, and we'll
- 19:19Speaker 1: get you rooms at this apartment complex in Brisbane. And
- 19:23Speaker 1: I ran Cox and I'm like we should room together.
- 19:25Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, we should totally room together. So we
- 19:28Speaker 1: rang Channel nine and said can we room together? And
- 19:30Speaker 1: they were the woman at Channel nine who was booking and.
- 19:32Speaker 4: All thought that we were taking the piece.
- 19:34Speaker 3: She was like it was like the.
- 19:36Speaker 4: Rugby league guys never want a room together.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, they don't have as much fun as
- 19:40Speaker 1: we do, right, so we got room together. But that
- 19:43Speaker 1: was like big mistake, huge by me because every time
- 19:46Speaker 1: I did something stupid, or even every time I did something,
- 19:49Speaker 1: she just had the camera rolling, and like when I
- 19:51Speaker 1: was driving, she had the camera rolling and then she
- 19:54Speaker 1: was like, mate, you need to ask me.
- 19:56Speaker 3: I'm going to say you signed a disclaimer.
- 19:58Speaker 2: No, anyway, it's all her, like an archivist of our lives.
- 20:02Speaker 4: That is true, That is very true.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I love how she looks brilliant and everything. She picks
- 20:08Speaker 3: our minds to look like Doddie.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Did you see last week? So Cat and I came
- 20:13Speaker 2: wearing exactly the same outfit, but obviously it looks very
- 20:16Speaker 2: bloody different when you're five foot two compared to the
- 20:19Speaker 2: league blonde. And I put it on Facebook and oh
- 20:23Speaker 2: there's some really on target feedback there from the dribblers
- 20:27Speaker 2: about who wore it better. It's like I didn't actually
- 20:29Speaker 2: want to answer the question. I know who were it better?
- 20:32Speaker 1: You are very funny, so goody big wind for fee?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Wow? Yeah it was. Yeah, it was, and I think
- 20:41Speaker 3: an important at the moment and I'm sort of looking
- 20:44Speaker 3: across the lee. Winning away from Home is huge because
- 20:49Speaker 3: I feel like with our crowds increasing so dramatically across
- 20:53Speaker 3: the lee, you know, like you're going in eight thousand.
- 20:56Speaker 3: In Adelaide on the weekend, Giants probably had their biggest
- 20:59Speaker 3: crowd this weekend. The Vixens, albeit that they lost and
- 21:04Speaker 3: it was a bit quiet in the stadium, their crowd
- 21:06Speaker 3: was enormous. I know, Fever, we've been building on our crowds,
- 21:09Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera. So it's such a hostile environment
- 21:12Speaker 3: to go into to play now in just about any
- 21:16Speaker 3: home game territory. So it'll be interesting to see, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 3: sort of teams capacity to win away. And we're in
- 21:22Speaker 3: an era and now, guys where you know in theory,
- 21:26Speaker 3: you like this year the home game, the home grand
- 21:29Speaker 3: is nobody's because you know we're going to Rod Labor Arena. Well,
- 21:34Speaker 3: the Vixens haven't played there before, so it's not it
- 21:36Speaker 3: might be a Melbourne crowd if they get there. But
- 21:38Speaker 3: so it's really important to try and learn how to
- 21:41Speaker 3: win on the road. So Fever did have a good
- 21:42Speaker 3: one this weekend. But I'll tell you what, Adelaide Thunderburns
- 21:44Speaker 3: weren't far off it, and gee they came back at
- 21:46Speaker 3: the end and you've got on super shot. It's the
- 21:49Speaker 3: gift that keeps on giving. And I tell you their
- 21:52Speaker 3: crowd went from zero to hero in a matter of
- 21:56Speaker 3: seconds and Georgie Gorgees was, oh, gee, you know, can
- 22:00Speaker 3: I spend a bit of time in the defense end
- 22:01Speaker 3: with Fever and you know she's a hard one to stop.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I'll tell you she was just bombing them over the
- 22:06Speaker 3: height of Katie and Dehaney. I mean, confidence was up.
- 22:08Speaker 3: So but it was a good game. Janiel Fowler was.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Great, valuable win for you guys.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Yeah, a really important win. And like losing the first
- 22:16Speaker 3: two games of the season for Fever, you know that
- 22:20Speaker 3: might come back and bite us in the backside at
- 22:22Speaker 3: the back end. So anything we can take now, in
- 22:25Speaker 3: particular of sides above us, which was the Thunderbirds and
- 22:28Speaker 3: away from home, is really important. But it was. It
- 22:31Speaker 3: was a really good game. And I think Dan Ryan
- 22:33Speaker 3: said in commentary at the end that the score line,
- 22:36Speaker 3: albeit that it blew out I think to double figures
- 22:38Speaker 3: at one point, honestly, it was not indicative of just
- 22:42Speaker 3: how close that game was. And I think that was
- 22:44Speaker 3: a little bit across the league this weekend, even Lizzie
- 22:48Speaker 3: the Derby in Sydney you know, like that's the best
- 22:52Speaker 3: the Giants have played, Like they looked really good, but
- 22:54Speaker 3: they still lost by a.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Quarter though, you know, you look at quarter one seventeen eighteen,
- 23:00Speaker 2: quarter two eighteen twenty, quarter three thirteen twenty two, and
- 23:04Speaker 2: then the last quarter twenty one twenty two, like it
- 23:06Speaker 2: was just that scoreline I don't think reflects how well
- 23:09Speaker 2: the Giants played for three quarters of the game.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And also, I reckon that game showed just how
- 23:16Speaker 1: important Joe Harten is to that front line, Like she's
- 23:19Speaker 1: not as fit and as strong as she used to be,
- 23:21Speaker 1: but she's still so clever, and I reckon the thing
- 23:24Speaker 1: that she does is gives them a huge amount of confidence.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And when I suspect she's on managed minutes right, so
- 23:29Speaker 1: they she didn't have a big injury moment, but they
- 23:32Speaker 1: took her off midway through or early on in that
- 23:34Speaker 1: third quarter. So when she went, they really did lack
- 23:38Speaker 1: a bit of direction in that front line. But what
- 23:42Speaker 1: I loved but was what by the last quarter we
- 23:45Speaker 1: really started to see them like all the players start
- 23:48Speaker 1: to step up to fill the gap that Joe Harten
- 23:50Speaker 1: had left. And I loved what Matisse leather Burrow brought
- 23:54Speaker 1: I reckon. I'd love to see a bit more of her.
- 23:56Speaker 1: She's she's like just so strong and accurate and unflappable.
- 24:01Speaker 1: She's got the bit of the Coxes about her. So yeah, like,
- 24:05Speaker 1: I just I thought the Giants were bloody fantastic given
- 24:10Speaker 1: that they're missing Tillie McDonald, they're missing you know, they
- 24:14Speaker 1: missed Joe Harden. The second half of the game, I
- 24:16Speaker 1: thought there was some really good signs there.
- 24:18Speaker 2: But their midcourt stuff I thought was bloody brilliant. It's like,
- 24:23Speaker 2: there's not much we can do about Grace wacky, and
- 24:25Speaker 2: I've thought Aaron O'Brien did a sensational job for sixty
- 24:28Speaker 2: minutes there, but you know, a very difficult job. But
- 24:31Speaker 2: I thought the Giants did a really good job in
- 24:33Speaker 2: the mid court, going well, once it's there, there's not
- 24:36Speaker 2: much we can do about it, so let's not you know,
- 24:38Speaker 2: let's not let them get it down there easily. And
- 24:41Speaker 2: that was amazing. And I just I thought it was
- 24:43Speaker 2: a shame those mid court changes in that third quarter
- 24:46Speaker 2: that it's like, oh that was that was really humming.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I thought Maddie Hay was probably at her
- 24:52Speaker 3: best so far this season. And the j LP piece
- 24:56Speaker 3: you ended up robbing Pete to PayPal, right, so they
- 25:00Speaker 3: I thought she was doing really well through the middle
- 25:01Speaker 3: and the battle with Hadley, they moved Hadley to wing
- 25:03Speaker 3: attack And.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Is that why they moved JLP to keep her on?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Well, I don't well, I don't know, but you know,
- 25:08Speaker 3: like Sliger's having a rip of season, so I would
- 25:10Speaker 3: have loved to see Sliger just continue to craft out
- 25:13Speaker 3: away there. But also too, you know, JLP brings a
- 25:17Speaker 3: big set of hands or sort of watching that really closely.
- 25:19Speaker 3: And the interesting thing with Jamie Lee Price, when she's
- 25:22Speaker 3: at wing of wing defense, she's so much more conscious
- 25:25Speaker 3: or aware of her penalties because she was really like
- 25:28Speaker 3: she pulls off the body bit. But when she's incentive,
- 25:30Speaker 3: she's a steam trainer, right, it's just like, oh well, contact,
- 25:33Speaker 3: move on. So but I did think she had some
- 25:35Speaker 3: really good arms pressure, which maybe you know, in a
- 25:39Speaker 3: bit more high, and I don't know if they thought
- 25:40Speaker 3: that was going to be purposeful over Hadley, but yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 3: you're right, And then I just wonder what would the
- 25:46Speaker 3: what would the game have look like had Harton have
- 25:48Speaker 3: been able to stay on, Because even though I agree
- 25:51Speaker 3: Matisse warmed into the game. Harton was leading and captaining
- 25:56Speaker 3: that game with unbelievable presence. So you know, and we
- 26:00Speaker 3: all don't know the inner sanct and what's going on
- 26:02Speaker 3: behind the scenes. You watched her the cameras picture walking
- 26:05Speaker 3: off court, you know, and she looked like she was
- 26:08Speaker 3: hobbling and limping a little bit. I think it was
- 26:10Speaker 3: the right side. So you know, it's hard to know
- 26:13Speaker 3: what's going on. But it's also hard you know, again,
- 26:17Speaker 3: you want to be careful here, but you hope she's
- 26:20Speaker 3: good for sixty minutes because you know, every player needs
- 26:24Speaker 3: to be able to step on the court and play sixty.
- 26:28Speaker 1: When she's good, she's so bloody good like them. She
- 26:31Speaker 1: was just had rick ball on a string. She was
- 26:33Speaker 1: just a maestro, wasn't she.
- 26:34Speaker 2: In that FaceTime like they were enjoying it, the Giants's
- 26:38Speaker 2: And I'm very openly a Swift's fan, but you know,
- 26:42Speaker 2: in watching the game yesterday, particularly that back end of
- 26:44Speaker 2: the second half, I thought the Giants are enjoying this.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The Swifts aunt so much, really, but it's like they
- 26:50Speaker 2: looked like, you know, there was communication at one stage
- 26:53Speaker 2: when Amy Slager put this pass down to Joe harton
- 26:55Speaker 2: that it was, you know, and they clearly were celebrating
- 26:58Speaker 2: that moment together and it was really fun to watch.
- 27:01Speaker 3: That that was called a goal assist and we wing defense.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Well the reason why I'm saying that is because as
- 27:08Speaker 3: a wing defense you are loving yourself sick. Yeah, yeah, right,
- 27:13Speaker 3: So which was good? And do you know what I reckon?
- 27:15Speaker 3: That game was and like Giants got nothing to lose
- 27:19Speaker 3: at this point, like they just may as well play,
- 27:21Speaker 3: and Swift had everything to lose in that game. Undefeated
- 27:23Speaker 3: so far this season, Crosstown rivals on opposition court and
- 27:28Speaker 3: it's the last game. You want to be the first
- 27:30Speaker 3: one to drop. So that's what the game looked like.
- 27:32Speaker 3: But again, Swiss found away and every team in the
- 27:35Speaker 3: league at the moment's trying to figure out how to
- 27:37Speaker 3: stop them. That's the reality. And I said to you,
- 27:40Speaker 3: I marked this one in the calendar coming this weekend,
- 27:42Speaker 3: Swiss Fee Lightning on Lightning Home Saul. Are we really intrigued?
- 27:46Speaker 3: I think we get to learn a lot this weekend
- 27:48Speaker 3: about both of those teams.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah, And I just like, of course, because I'm a goalkeeper,
- 27:53Speaker 1: I'm loving tikan O'shanness's.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Work Yeah, this is just huge.
- 27:58Speaker 1: She's just like, obviously she was good, but this year
- 28:01Speaker 1: she's great, unbelievable.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and do you know what, she wins ball. She's
- 28:06Speaker 3: winning ball a little bit differently to Cloud. So Cloud
- 28:09Speaker 3: can win ball in very similar fashion to Tigan, but
- 28:14Speaker 3: I think Teagan's sort of Yeah, Tigan's doing it a
- 28:17Speaker 3: little bit differently, which is, you know again, which is brilliant.
- 28:21Speaker 3: It doesn't matter how you win ball, but I love
- 28:22Speaker 3: the way that she's doing it at the moment. And
- 28:25Speaker 3: Cloud just I think I think Cloud developing her gold
- 28:28Speaker 3: offense games great for the Diamonds personally, continuing to develop
- 28:33Speaker 3: that because I'm not sure what happens to Joe Weston
- 28:36Speaker 3: come twenty seven, right, Like you know, and we've relied
- 28:38Speaker 3: heavily on Joe Weston for a long period of time
- 28:40Speaker 3: at the Diamonds level, and she is good and she
- 28:43Speaker 3: is probably the best in the game at just nullifying, nullifying, nullifying,
- 28:48Speaker 3: But is she going to be there in twenty seven?
- 28:50Speaker 3: So I think, you know, the more Cloud and the
- 28:52Speaker 3: Clouds and the Bruises of the world beyond the sunday
- 28:54Speaker 3: Arians and whoever else I'm ignoring at the moment, can
- 28:58Speaker 3: get out and run their legs into gold offense better. Hey,
- 29:00Speaker 3: speaking of Joe Weston, that that match up between her
- 29:04Speaker 3: and Steph Fretwell on Sunday was just fantastic, Like that's
- 29:07Speaker 3: just that's just worth your KAO subscription Priceline.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Nothing was left on call, wasn't.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Just sitting on ches though, you know what, I ash
- 29:17Speaker 2: Evan was only on for a few minutes of that game,
- 29:19Speaker 2: and it's like wow, looking at that, at those options
- 29:22Speaker 2: to have at your disposal, that is incredible.
- 29:25Speaker 3: This, I reckon, This is if you had time. There's
- 29:29Speaker 3: a whole show on this, right because not doesn't mean
- 29:31Speaker 3: I don't.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Mean what I'm goalkeepers, Yes, absolutely.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it. I just think there's some real
- 29:37Speaker 3: interest at the moment. So I'm going to I'll bring
- 29:39Speaker 3: up some names. So ash Irvin, Sophie Fawns, Lucy Austin.
- 29:44Speaker 3: They're three names, right. Sophie Fawns hasn't been selected so
- 29:49Speaker 3: far this season. We're assuming form, Lucy Austin is and
- 29:54Speaker 3: Tan Robs should I say? In her press conference after
- 29:58Speaker 3: the game, when asked the question for the fifth time,
- 30:01Speaker 3: made it really clear that Austin's been dropped because Basically,
- 30:07Speaker 3: they chose a list for a reason and then all
- 30:09Speaker 3: of a sudden one of their players got pregnant and
- 30:11Speaker 3: they've had to make an adjustment in their list, which
- 30:14Speaker 3: means they now have to be a little bit more
- 30:16Speaker 3: mid court defensive heavy, and Austin loses her position. And
- 30:21Speaker 3: then you go to someone like ash Irvan who's getting
- 30:22Speaker 3: selected week in, week out, but court time not necessarily there,
- 30:26Speaker 3: like these are these players contend to just sit in
- 30:30Speaker 3: their environments for however long and not get caught time
- 30:34Speaker 3: where or are they going to look to up and go?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Like I just our league is a really interesting one
- 30:39Speaker 3: because and again I sit in a recruitment position, so
- 30:42Speaker 3: I've had conversations with various athletes over time, and you
- 30:44Speaker 3: just can't understand why they don't want to go and
- 30:48Speaker 3: gain opportunity and they just sit in the background and
- 30:51Speaker 3: don't get court time, so you know, and we're not
- 30:54Speaker 3: talking big, big dollars, And I do think that's probably
- 30:58Speaker 3: a difficult one is an AFL. Most people just go
- 31:01Speaker 3: anywhere they go, right, So I don't know, it's just
- 31:04Speaker 3: a really interesting one. But ash Irvan, for me, I
- 31:06Speaker 3: want to see her out there because I think she's
- 31:08Speaker 3: an interesting one for the dime.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Imagine if the Giants had had ash Irvan yesterday, that
- 31:12Speaker 2: would have been so interesting.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Well, I don't want to take anything away from Erin o'brown.
- 31:16Speaker 2: No, I think she did a spectactul but she's she's
- 31:19Speaker 2: so young, and that is so much pressure on her,
- 31:20Speaker 2: isn't it so sixty minutes. I think she was a
- 31:22Speaker 2: training partner last year, so it's like she she is,
- 31:25Speaker 2: you know, a massive future, and I just I loved
- 31:29Speaker 2: watching her yesterday. At no stage did she get disheartened.
- 31:33Speaker 2: At no stage was there a lullin energy. She she
- 31:35Speaker 2: wanted that she is.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Yes, you know what she did. I loved Aeron O'Brien,
- 31:39Speaker 3: the innocent Aeron O'Brien, I reckon. She gave the umpire
- 31:42Speaker 3: a good look five or six times over every time
- 31:44Speaker 3: Wecky put her up backside out and knocked her for
- 31:47Speaker 3: a six and nearly broke the match stick in half.
- 31:50Speaker 3: She she looked at the umpires to say, what are
- 31:53Speaker 3: you see here? Like I put on your kid?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Done really good?
- 31:57Speaker 2: But that lightning Vixen's game bigger at the end.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Too, Liz, what do you think?
- 32:04Speaker 4: Look?
- 32:04Speaker 1: It was so interesting? Was it so very Simone, like
- 32:07Speaker 1: she's so low key. So Samone mckinness of course, the
- 32:10Speaker 1: Vixen's coach, really announcing sort of mid interview with Bianca
- 32:14Speaker 1: Chatfield that she was finishing up at the end of
- 32:18Speaker 1: this season as coach of the Vixen's And if you
- 32:20Speaker 1: know Simone, she's so low key, she's so dry. And
- 32:24Speaker 1: I just I had a little gig because I thought,
- 32:27Speaker 1: that's exactly Simone. She like, there's no press release announcing it,
- 32:31Speaker 1: there's no big fanfare. She just lets it sleep in
- 32:34Speaker 1: the middle of a conversation and you could see Bianca
- 32:36Speaker 1: going what And it was funny. We was sitting there
- 32:39Speaker 1: watching it, and my husband said to me, did you
- 32:41Speaker 1: know that? No, I would have thought I would have
- 32:44Speaker 1: remembered if I read it somewhere. I had no idea,
- 32:46Speaker 1: but it was just so low key. But I mean,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I think it probably throws up more questions than an answers,
- 32:54Speaker 1: doesn't it.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Do you reckon this is her call?
- 32:57Speaker 3: Yeah? I reckon, that's a That's the question I would
- 32:59Speaker 3: have liked to ask in the press conference afterwards. So
- 33:02Speaker 3: I don't know if anyone saw the press conference, And
- 33:03Speaker 3: if you haven't go and look for it because it's
- 33:05Speaker 3: actually quite hysterical, to be honest with you. Simone almost says,
- 33:09Speaker 3: the way the victims are going, we should go down
- 33:10Speaker 3: the pub. So and it was a classic. It was
- 33:13Speaker 3: a classic Simon McInnes's comment. But yeah, I think personally
- 33:18Speaker 3: this has been playing in the back of Simone's mind
- 33:20Speaker 3: for a while. But there are some changes, and she
- 33:23Speaker 3: alluded to this. This is not me making this up.
- 33:25Speaker 3: She alluded to this both on court when Bianca was
- 33:30Speaker 3: interviewing her and also again in the press conference afterwards,
- 33:33Speaker 3: just around the fact that there are some changes at
- 33:35Speaker 3: Netbulk Victorian. I think what she's speaking to there is
- 33:39Speaker 3: the shift in the Victorian is due to sport funding
- 33:42Speaker 3: and structure, which kind of infiltrates Simone's contract and the
- 33:47Speaker 3: way in which her setup and structure works, and therefore
- 33:50Speaker 3: Network Victoria probably owning more of that and really fundamentally
- 33:54Speaker 3: running victionens out of their own house. And so I
- 33:59Speaker 3: potentially wonder whether this has been a mutual discussion at
- 34:02Speaker 3: some point but hasn't necessarily shocked Simon, and then noting
- 34:08Speaker 3: maybe in the background that she's probably thinking all thirteen seasons,
- 34:11Speaker 3: you know, when do you. I don't know so, but
- 34:13Speaker 3: it would have been a great question to ask men
- 34:15Speaker 3: to have the horse, so to speak from the horse's
- 34:17Speaker 3: mouth be able to say, oh, no, I instigated this,
- 34:19Speaker 3: or you know, no, neple Victoria asked to have a conversation.
- 34:22Speaker 3: So it doesn't make any difference. At the end of
- 34:24Speaker 3: the day, the out comes the same as.
- 34:25Speaker 2: She certainly deserves a break. I mean, it's like if
- 34:28Speaker 2: take the air off next year and then come back
- 34:30Speaker 2: and see us because we want you out. That's a
- 34:33Speaker 2: you know, And if it's not all entirely her call,
- 34:36Speaker 2: I'd have to say, man, what do you have to
- 34:38Speaker 2: do as a coach if it's sorry? We were Grand
- 34:40Speaker 2: finalists last year and we're at round six of it.
- 34:43Speaker 2: So if there has been a conversation that was initiated elsewhere,
- 34:48Speaker 2: I just think life is tough as a coach.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Right, yeah, And do you know what, Liz, what do
- 34:53Speaker 3: you think of this? Right? Like I was actually when
- 34:55Speaker 3: I woke up this morning, this was ticking through my head.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Vixen's have been a little bit off, right, so they're
- 35:01Speaker 3: definitely not playing at their best. You see glimpses of it.
- 35:04Speaker 3: There's no two ways there's still the Vixens. You see
- 35:06Speaker 3: moments of it, but consistency for them at the moment
- 35:09Speaker 3: has been often one of the most notable things I
- 35:12Speaker 3: think in their performance at the moment is their skill error.
- 35:15Speaker 3: And that's not the Vixens like, they're ranked number one
- 35:18Speaker 3: in my opinion for being highly skilled executing skill under pressure.
- 35:24Speaker 3: But how much of maybe this simone mckinness information has
- 35:32Speaker 3: been in the background and potentially in simone you know,
- 35:37Speaker 3: and subconsciously maybe it's just sort of been a little
- 35:40Speaker 3: bit of an interference in the environment, not deliberately, and
- 35:44Speaker 3: I reckon that we get to see that now. So
- 35:46Speaker 3: let's watch where the Vicxens go in the next couple
- 35:48Speaker 3: of weeks. That for me will be telling either there
- 35:52Speaker 3: is that that was kind of having a bit of
- 35:55Speaker 3: a negative impact on the environment, or maybe we're just
- 36:00Speaker 3: looking at a list that needs some adjustment and potentially,
- 36:06Speaker 3: as we will know, a new coach to come in
- 36:07Speaker 3: and change its style slightly. I think there's some interesting
- 36:10Speaker 3: things to learn in the next couple of weeks.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and it'd be fascinating to see which way Victoria
- 36:15Speaker 1: go with their equipment of their new coach. Victoria's historically
- 36:18Speaker 1: been a real breeding ground for coaches.
- 36:20Speaker 3: When you think about the Diamonds coaches and the great
- 36:24Speaker 3: coaches of the past, a lot of them have come
- 36:26Speaker 3: from Victoria. You know, There's there's Joyce Brown, There's Normal Plumber,
- 36:29Speaker 3: There's Lisa Alexander. You know, there's like there's all these
- 36:33Speaker 3: great coaches who've come out of that sort of pathway.
- 36:36Speaker 1: So you sort of get the feeling that they're on tap.
- 36:38Speaker 1: So it'd be really interesting to see where they go.
- 36:42Speaker 3: There is an absolute front runner.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Who is it?
- 36:44Speaker 3: Who are Kathy Fellows? For a thousand reasons, so you've
- 36:50Speaker 3: got Kathy Fellows who has produced. So this is Kathy
- 36:54Speaker 3: Fellows assistant coach currently the Adelaide Thunderbirds right assistant coach
- 36:58Speaker 3: to two premierships and has flies back and forth from
- 37:03Speaker 3: Melbourne to be a part of the Adelaide's structure and setup.
- 37:07Speaker 3: She in my opinion, has been, if not the best
- 37:13Speaker 3: junior development coach in the country for an extended period
- 37:18Speaker 3: of time prior to stepping into the high performance arena
- 37:21Speaker 3: right and Victorian. I think she needs her time to shine.
- 37:26Speaker 3: She's got two years under a belt of understanding what
- 37:30Speaker 3: it takes to win a premiership. She also understand what
- 37:32Speaker 3: it takes to beat the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Just by way
- 37:35Speaker 3: of example, she understands a high performance system. This would
- 37:39Speaker 3: put her back home. She's currently the Australian twenty one
- 37:42Speaker 3: on unders coach, so she's going to get a look
- 37:44Speaker 3: at an international environment. I just think like she's she
- 37:48Speaker 3: I don't know whether Katy's interested in the job or not,
- 37:50Speaker 3: but surely you head hunt her for interview. There's no
- 37:53Speaker 3: two ways about it.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, So there you go.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Another Victorian coach is like this cookie cutter of not
- 37:58Speaker 1: a cookie cutter, but this production line house of whatever
- 38:03Speaker 1: Victoria like Historically they've always produced these fabulous coaches. So
- 38:08Speaker 1: but I just want to sort of go back to Simone.
- 38:10Speaker 1: The thing that I think stands out for me about
- 38:13Speaker 1: Simone as a coach is that the players love her.
- 38:15Speaker 1: You know, when when Coxy went to play in Victoria,
- 38:20Speaker 1: Simone really managed her very very well, as that was
- 38:24Speaker 1: when her international career finished through that season, and I
- 38:27Speaker 1: think Simone, you know, when you see her rapport with
- 38:31Speaker 1: the players, it's so impressive. So you know, I think
- 38:35Speaker 1: she's done. She's been a brilliant coach. And I got
- 38:38Speaker 1: to say, knowing her as a player, she's one of
- 38:41Speaker 1: the last players I thought would become a But she's
- 38:46Speaker 1: just been fantastic. It's been brilliant to just watch.
- 38:48Speaker 4: Her grow, you know.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Normal Plumber said that, Liz so Plumb said, if you
- 38:54Speaker 3: go to Plumb and say, of the era of athletes
- 38:56Speaker 3: that you coached through the time, name that the name
- 38:59Speaker 3: the one that would be the least likely to go
- 39:03Speaker 3: on and coach, And Plumsta says, straight up, Oh, Samoma Kins,
- 39:06Speaker 3: I believe it. Yeah, Sosnomi Kinness, no way, not a
- 39:10Speaker 3: fat chance in hell. And have a look at what
- 39:11Speaker 3: she's done.
- 39:12Speaker 4: It's just amazing.
- 39:13Speaker 2: So how long do you think the players have known
- 39:15Speaker 2: given the closeness of that relationship. Is that something that
- 39:18Speaker 2: is part of an explanation of what's happening on? I mean,
- 39:22Speaker 2: I tipped the Vixens, but you know they so they
- 39:24Speaker 2: lost by twelve, The Giants lost by thirteen. At no
- 39:27Speaker 2: stage during that game, yestead, I did I think the
- 39:28Speaker 2: Vixens were going to win. Through most of the game.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I felt like the Giants had a possibility. So it's just,
- 39:36Speaker 2: you know, they just they didn't. They looked they looked
- 39:38Speaker 2: flat to me, And is this you know, is there
- 39:41Speaker 2: kind of a bit like the Swifts last year that
- 39:43Speaker 2: like there's something.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I felt like they've looked flat for the last two weeks.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I want to make this really clear. I have no idea,
- 39:52Speaker 3: and some like when you're inside the inner sanctum and
- 39:54Speaker 3: then people in the media start speculating it can really
- 39:57Speaker 3: were you. So I just want to make it really clear.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I don't know, Well, you don't even know how to
- 40:01Speaker 2: make corn beef. For God's sake.
- 40:04Speaker 1: This is true long and getting longer.
- 40:07Speaker 3: This is true, But I do I think it's just
- 40:11Speaker 3: been a little uncharacteristic of the Vixens and the inconsistency
- 40:16Speaker 3: in their performance, and you kind of go why, And usually,
- 40:19Speaker 3: like when you're kind of been in the game long
- 40:22Speaker 3: enough and you kind of look and you go, what,
- 40:24Speaker 3: what's not right? And we all looked at this, you're right,
- 40:26Speaker 3: currently looked at the Swifts last year, and you're like, yeah,
- 40:29Speaker 3: what's not right? And then you dig a bit deeper
- 40:31Speaker 3: and you kind of get an understanding and then you
- 40:33Speaker 3: can see right. So I just wonder whether we've all
- 40:36Speaker 3: been presented with the what's not right? I don't know
- 40:39Speaker 3: so or potentially maybe only the leadership group knew. But
- 40:43Speaker 3: like I said, you know, if this has been going
- 40:45Speaker 3: on for a little while in the background between the
- 40:47Speaker 3: Vixens and Simone, potentially potentially Sometimes it just like it's
- 40:53Speaker 3: hard to find your energy. Sometimes as a coach, you
- 40:55Speaker 3: think you're bringing your A game, but maybe you're not.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Maybe it's only a B plus and that could be
- 40:58Speaker 3: the difference. So who but Simone. And like I said,
- 41:02Speaker 3: if you haven't seen her postgame interview, go and see it,
- 41:06Speaker 3: because what I can assure you is Somoni Kinness now
- 41:08Speaker 3: with this weight off her shoulders and it being out
- 41:11Speaker 3: in public, has made it really clear that she is
- 41:15Speaker 3: going to give absolutely every last millimeter of sweat that
- 41:21Speaker 3: she can to get the Vixens to be the best
- 41:25Speaker 3: performing team that she can make them hopefully playing finals,
- 41:27Speaker 3: hopefully being at rob Laverna. And so I think what
- 41:30Speaker 3: we'll see all going to plan is a very different
- 41:33Speaker 3: looking Vixens over the next few years.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Well, I do have one scoop on Somoma Kuness's possible replacement,
- 41:39Speaker 2: and well I might as well make the announcement here.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I will rule myself out of contention. I feel like
- 41:45Speaker 2: I really need to focus on my under twelves, and
- 41:49Speaker 2: so it's just not the right time for me, I
- 41:51Speaker 2: have to say.
- 41:52Speaker 3: So. Yeah, I genuinely thought it was going to be
- 41:54Speaker 3: one of the greatest wing defenses in the world. Handing
- 41:57Speaker 3: it over to another wind defense holds. I was trying
- 42:01Speaker 3: to think of the script words, you know.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Wasn't until you're right at the end of that that
- 42:08Speaker 2: I realized you weren't talking about me as one of
- 42:10Speaker 2: the greatest wing defenses in the world. To be fair,
- 42:13Speaker 2: you've never seen me play, so you.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Know, casting judgment from it. Yea. But as I mask
- 42:19Speaker 3: myself as quite a great talent, identify.
- 42:22Speaker 2: You've done well and not identifying me, that's a non
- 42:25Speaker 2: coret talent at the moment.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Susan, I mean, you're a wing defense. Are you ruling
- 42:30Speaker 1: yourself in or out at this point?
- 42:32Speaker 3: No, I'm out. I'd love to move back to melps. Yeah. No, no, no,
- 42:36Speaker 3: not for me. I need a breath, you know, And
- 42:39Speaker 3: and I really like I love my role. I don't
- 42:41Speaker 3: want to head coaches. No I shouldn't. You should never
- 42:43Speaker 3: say never, But I really love people underestimate the roles
- 42:48Speaker 3: of assistant coaches. And specialist coaches in the job, like
- 42:51Speaker 3: I dearly love what I do at Fever in my
- 42:54Speaker 3: third job, of which that'll become my kind of first
- 42:58Speaker 3: second job next year. So with not for me, and
- 43:02Speaker 3: I just don't like the weather in Melbourne. You can't
- 43:05Speaker 3: pay me enough to live in it.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Liz, did you have any follow up questions for me
- 43:10Speaker 2: on my announcement? We seem to goirt over that it
- 43:15Speaker 2: was a bit like the ginger beer and maple So, okay.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I've got one. I've got one. If you were to
- 43:21Speaker 3: take the coaching role at the Vick, what would be
- 43:25Speaker 3: your list? Would it remain the same or would you
- 43:28Speaker 3: look to recruit differently.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Well, actually, this is a beautiful segue into another conversation
- 43:34Speaker 2: that I wanted to ask you to because here's a surprise.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I'm not as much of an expert on the recruitment
- 43:39Speaker 2: as I may have made out momentarily. But yeah, we've
- 43:46Speaker 2: had a question from one of the dribblers about salary
- 43:48Speaker 2: cap issues, and I reckon this would be a great
- 43:51Speaker 2: time to segue into that. But we're just gonna have
- 43:53Speaker 2: a little break first. So while I'm look, I'm not
- 44:00Speaker 2: going to waste standing brain energy on working out what
- 44:02Speaker 2: the Vixens need. Obviously I've got an under twelve's team
- 44:05Speaker 2: that needs me to give them my a game. But yes,
- 44:09Speaker 2: we did have a question from one of the one
- 44:10Speaker 2: of the dribblers that came to me last week about
- 44:13Speaker 2: how does the salary cap apply in our game? So
- 44:15Speaker 2: when they are looking at recruitment, what are the you know,
- 44:18Speaker 2: what are what are the restrictions on this type of thing?
- 44:20Speaker 2: And maybe Gordy, this is something you could tell us about.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Oh yes, it's a bible long, so we'll keep it,
- 44:27Speaker 3: try nice and keep it short. So there's a minimum wage,
- 44:31Speaker 3: so you have to make sure that at least every
- 44:34Speaker 3: player in your list is at minimum wage. Then there's
- 44:38Speaker 3: a maximum cap in terms of our total player payments,
- 44:45Speaker 3: and anything in between is doable. So you've got to
- 44:49Speaker 3: contract your ten athletes within that total player pain.
- 44:52Speaker 2: And is it the same for every club?
- 44:54Speaker 3: Every club is the same, Every club is the same,
- 44:56Speaker 3: so we all live under the same roof. Then there's
- 45:01Speaker 3: what we call like a part B or a marketing contract,
- 45:05Speaker 3: so and that's the clubs pay that, and there's a
- 45:08Speaker 3: minimum and maximum spend on that of which clubs there
- 45:13Speaker 3: is You know, you can pay like I won't go
- 45:16Speaker 3: into the figures, but yeah, you basically have to pay
- 45:19Speaker 3: within the minimum or maximum of that marketing contract. And
- 45:21Speaker 3: basically what that what that's about is you know, like
- 45:25Speaker 3: so you pay, you pay your player their salary, and
- 45:27Speaker 3: then on top of that, you're sort of paying them
- 45:29Speaker 3: some additional money to help sort of promote market your
- 45:31Speaker 3: club and do things within the community and et cetera,
- 45:33Speaker 3: et cetera. And then the third category that you can
- 45:39Speaker 3: look at is like what we call the additional service agreements.
- 45:42Speaker 3: So like basically and there's that's the minimum of that
- 45:47Speaker 3: you don't actually have to spend in this category, so
- 45:49Speaker 3: it's a zero, but then it has a maximum cap
- 45:52Speaker 3: on it, and it also has a maximum spend per
- 45:54Speaker 3: athlete on it. And that's usually like your like say,
- 46:00Speaker 3: for example, like I'll give you an example of it.
- 46:03Speaker 3: So let's simplify it. So let's say I don't know,
- 46:06Speaker 3: a sponsor wants to come in and get Paige Hadley
- 46:09Speaker 3: to do an ad on TV or something like that,
- 46:11Speaker 3: and they want to pay her separately to do an
- 46:16Speaker 3: additional service for the sport for her, and you know,
- 46:20Speaker 3: the club benefits from it as well, they can come
- 46:22Speaker 3: in and pay that, So it's kind of that. That's
- 46:24Speaker 3: one example of it. So there's sort of three categories,
- 46:26Speaker 3: but the main category is the total player payment, which
- 46:29Speaker 3: is a player's salary and it has a minimum and
- 46:31Speaker 3: maximum wage on it, and then they all get a
- 46:33Speaker 3: health health insurance allowance. And then you can have a
- 46:37Speaker 3: maximum of three cars per cars. It's just so silly.
- 46:43Speaker 4: There's so many questions.
- 46:45Speaker 1: So but I've got a question about just from the
- 46:47Speaker 1: point of view about building your list. So there's a
- 46:50Speaker 1: number of theories about how you build your list with
- 46:51Speaker 1: a salary cap. Do you go for a big input
- 46:54Speaker 1: player and pay them what's required and then try and
- 46:58Speaker 1: fit in Like do you put the big rock in
- 47:01Speaker 1: first and then try and fit the little rocks around it?
- 47:03Speaker 1: Or do you get do you look at like more
- 47:07Speaker 1: of a instead of having lots of little rocks, you
- 47:09Speaker 1: have a layer of medium sized rocks and you don't
- 47:13Speaker 1: have a big rock, and but you have more medium
- 47:16Speaker 1: sized rocks.
- 47:16Speaker 4: How do you approach it when you build your.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Little Well, all I can say is based on your rocks,
- 47:20Speaker 3: I'm not putting you on my list manage committee. That's
- 47:24Speaker 3: not how we talk about it. But anyhow, I get
- 47:26Speaker 3: where you're coming from the water. Go yeah, it's no Lizzie.
- 47:34Speaker 3: It like each club would like that's your strategy, right,
- 47:38Speaker 3: So everything that you just explained in terms of your
- 47:41Speaker 3: rocks and their sizes is exactly what you go through.
- 47:43Speaker 3: So some clubs will go through what they call a
- 47:45Speaker 3: marquee system, so you know you're locking your markets. And
- 47:48Speaker 3: let's use the greatest example ever was Nolin tata Or
- 47:50Speaker 3: in her first year at Sunshine Coast Lightning comes into
- 47:53Speaker 3: a new franchise basically says, straight up, I want a
- 47:56Speaker 3: big rock in each area of the court. So three
- 47:59Speaker 3: marquees and that was she went in and got Steph Fretwell,
- 48:04Speaker 3: she got Laura Langman, and she got Jeeva Mentor all right,
- 48:08Speaker 3: and then she built she built around yeah massive, and
- 48:11Speaker 3: then you know incomes Caitlin Bassett and you know, like
- 48:13Speaker 3: the rocks kept coming right. But what happens is that
- 48:17Speaker 3: you know, you within reason, you get a bit of
- 48:19Speaker 3: a feel for what the market pays players, and then
- 48:23Speaker 3: it's up to you as a club as to what
- 48:25Speaker 3: you then value over or unders. You know you're overs
- 48:27Speaker 3: and you're unders, but a lot of clubs there are
- 48:32Speaker 3: some clubs I'm aware of that started their salary cap
- 48:37Speaker 3: strategy around being a little bit more middle rocks across
- 48:40Speaker 3: the board, and then there are other clubs I'm aware
- 48:43Speaker 3: of that do more of a marquee system, and then
- 48:45Speaker 3: you know, like a marquee and then your rookies and
- 48:47Speaker 3: you're sort of in between. So it just varies and
- 48:50Speaker 3: you've got it. And this is the biggest thing is
- 48:52Speaker 3: you've got to have your strategy built over four or
- 48:53Speaker 3: five years, all right, But the problem is is that
- 48:55Speaker 3: we can't contract for that length of time. So I'm
- 48:58Speaker 3: hoping that those in charge it all Australia, I don't
- 49:00Speaker 3: know if you know anyone in particular I can get
- 49:04Speaker 3: their heads around that, because we've got to get to
- 49:05Speaker 3: a point where we can contract over extended periods of time,
- 49:08Speaker 3: which gives clubs stability and athletes more importantly, players stability.
- 49:12Speaker 3: I think that's the biggest thing.
- 49:14Speaker 2: So what happens if there's a run of injuries in
- 49:16Speaker 2: a club and so you've got ten players, what if
- 49:18Speaker 2: sort of three of them are like, okay, you're out
- 49:20Speaker 2: long term injuries. Now what happens with the salary cap stuff?
- 49:24Speaker 3: Then each club must list four nominated training partners, and
- 49:30Speaker 3: that when you have the word nominated in front of
- 49:33Speaker 3: your training partner, it means that you are solely responsible,
- 49:36Speaker 3: like you're basically contracted to that club. And the only
- 49:42Speaker 3: way that you can play for another club is if
- 49:44Speaker 3: you are asked to go as a permanent replacement player
- 49:47Speaker 3: to another club. So you have four contracted and then
- 49:50Speaker 3: each club's entitled. You don't have to to elevate one
- 49:55Speaker 3: of those four nominated training partners as an upgraded athlete,
- 49:59Speaker 3: which is where you're hearing us talk about the eleventh player.
- 50:03Speaker 3: And then if you're the eleventh, let's just call it
- 50:05Speaker 3: the eleventh play because it's much easier to understand. Then
- 50:09Speaker 3: you are entitled to be selected on a weekly basis
- 50:13Speaker 3: based on form. But if you are a training a
- 50:16Speaker 3: nominated training partner, so one of the other three, you're
- 50:19Speaker 3: only entitled to play based on injury or illness, So
- 50:23Speaker 3: medical certificate okay, right, and then basically you can permanently replace,
- 50:29Speaker 3: So if you have a long term injury, you can
- 50:32Speaker 3: temporarily replace that player for up to twenty one days,
- 50:36Speaker 3: and then after that you have to if it's a
- 50:38Speaker 3: long term injury and it's medical certificate that's known. Then
- 50:41Speaker 3: you have to permanently replace, and you can permanently replace
- 50:44Speaker 3: with anybody you want. It doesn't have to be your
- 50:46Speaker 3: training partners. It can be anybody.
- 50:47Speaker 2: But presumably so if you're injured, you still get paid
- 50:50Speaker 2: while you're doing your reham and then presumably if you're
- 50:53Speaker 2: a training partner, you get paid X. But if you
- 50:55Speaker 2: then become someone who has to take the court regularly
- 50:57Speaker 2: and the team is relying on you, I would hope
- 50:59Speaker 2: that it becomes X plus plus.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Yeah. No, So the way it works, so let's use
- 51:06Speaker 3: like player A gets long term injury, so out they go,
- 51:11Speaker 3: and then they continue to be paid. Player B comes
- 51:15Speaker 3: in either as a temp oil let's say as a
- 51:17Speaker 3: permanent replacement player. That's the easy one to start with,
- 51:20Speaker 3: and insurance covers their wage up to the amount of
- 51:24Speaker 3: the player that they're replacing. So we then negotiate a
- 51:27Speaker 3: contract with the player B that comes in up to
- 51:31Speaker 3: the rate of the player that's replacing, so you don't
- 51:34Speaker 3: have to pay them that much. But if that player
- 51:36Speaker 3: that they're replacing is say a rookie on bass salary,
- 51:39Speaker 3: well then you play you're paying based salary and then
- 51:42Speaker 3: the temporary replacement player. So as I said, you can
- 51:45Speaker 3: temporarily replace for twenty one days and you can continue
- 51:50Speaker 3: to temporarily. I won't get into that because that's a
- 51:52Speaker 3: confusing one, but you paid a weekly we have a
- 51:55Speaker 3: weekly payment fee. And then after twenty one days, if
- 51:59Speaker 3: the tee up all the TRP temporary replacement player turned
- 52:02Speaker 3: into a PRP permanent replacement player, then you're uplifting to contract.
- 52:07Speaker 3: Like it's a lot. I can tell you when I
- 52:09Speaker 3: first came into the job and they put the Bible
- 52:11Speaker 3: in front of me, I nearly die because I don't
- 52:12Speaker 3: read a book a year.
- 52:14Speaker 2: So we've already got one of those on this podcast.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Come on, get on the reading train.
- 52:21Speaker 3: I only read a book in Balley and so I
- 52:23Speaker 3: was I'm not taking a collective players agreement or the
- 52:25Speaker 3: competition with there and Nalie.
- 52:27Speaker 2: To read it.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it is. It is big. And again I come
- 52:31Speaker 3: from a club that's had a historical salary cap breach,
- 52:33Speaker 3: not that I want to talk about that, but whilst
- 52:37Speaker 3: this is not an excuse, but it is easy to
- 52:39Speaker 3: make mistakes. You've got to be really careful and you've
- 52:41Speaker 3: got to be really across it. And I do think
- 52:44Speaker 3: though the league understands when when mistakes are made, either
- 52:46Speaker 3: deliberately or not, so, which is good, but it's a
- 52:50Speaker 3: tough part of the job.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Thank you. That was great. Thanks Charlotte for that awesome question.
- 52:54Speaker 2: When you sent it through last week, I thought, yeah,
- 52:56Speaker 2: I don't know that either, so that's great and Gordy,
- 52:58Speaker 2: awesome to have you here too, really step us through that.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Pleasure.
- 53:04Speaker 2: We are dangerously close to running out of time and
- 53:07Speaker 2: there's still so much I need to talk about. Let
- 53:08Speaker 2: me just give a quick summary of where we're at
- 53:10Speaker 2: with tipping, because there is one other question that we
- 53:12Speaker 2: need to talk about.
- 53:13Speaker 3: I think.
- 53:13Speaker 2: So we have a tip. JM, who is sitting in
- 53:17Speaker 2: thirty seventh place, has won the Valor weekly voucher for
- 53:23Speaker 2: closest picking the score and the margin. So well done, JM.
- 53:27Speaker 2: But you know, again, if you are somewhere further down
- 53:29Speaker 2: the ladder, for instance, the three of us, well we
- 53:33Speaker 2: can't win it, but you are still able to win
- 53:35Speaker 2: the weekly prize even if you don't win. Overall, we
- 53:37Speaker 2: now do have one person clear at the top of
- 53:39Speaker 2: the ladder, but it is tight. So I love quid,
- 53:42Speaker 2: which is now sitting clear at number one. Fascinator is
- 53:45Speaker 2: number two, Thunderballs is number three. Now the three of
- 53:48Speaker 2: us are sitting in the four hundreds. I will say, so, yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 2: I know. So Gordy, you're doing the best. You're atr
- 53:55Speaker 2: four hundred and eighth. Then, in a shocking turn of events,
- 53:59Speaker 2: I have leap from over Lizells. I'm now at four
- 54:01Speaker 2: hundred and twenty six. And Liz's strategy of tipping only
- 54:04Speaker 2: the home teams led her a bit astray this week,
- 54:07Speaker 2: and she's sitting in four hundred and forty fifth. So
- 54:09Speaker 2: while we're all in the fours, Catherine Cox is number
- 54:13Speaker 2: four on the tipping ladder. She's number of shares number four. Yes,
- 54:19Speaker 2: I know, but here's I.
- 54:20Speaker 3: Think, Bob Java no something.
- 54:21Speaker 2: This is a bigger outrage because Barb only got two
- 54:24Speaker 2: this week. So kat will take from Barb, but clearly
- 54:27Speaker 2: is not giving to Barb because kath got five this
- 54:30Speaker 2: week and Barb got two. So and you'll notice that
- 54:33Speaker 2: kath Onie tells us her tips in advance every second
- 54:36Speaker 2: week on video, so I think this is very interesting
- 54:40Speaker 2: that on a week she didn't share her tips, she
- 54:42Speaker 2: ends up with five.
- 54:43Speaker 1: So how a share that with five, but there's only
- 54:46Speaker 1: four points, so.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Well you get a bonus point if you if you
- 54:49Speaker 2: tip a perfect round. So we've got five pi. It's
- 54:51Speaker 2: called bingo. We've got five people who got that. This week.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Two hundred and sixty two people picked three out of
- 54:56Speaker 2: the four one hundred and eighty one, which is where
- 54:58Speaker 2: I was sitting, picked two out of four fifty one
- 55:00Speaker 2: people tipped only one and two people managed to get
- 55:03Speaker 2: a perfectly wrong round.
- 55:05Speaker 3: But yeah, how is Catherine Cox for four hundred people
- 55:09Speaker 3: smarter than us in tipping? I just can't fadam it.
- 55:13Speaker 3: It's actually lead a book, I know, but you see
- 55:21Speaker 3: you've got an excuse. You're just saying home and away.
- 55:23Speaker 3: What's my excuse? Excuse? I'm actually thinking about it.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Well, you're doing better than I am, so so but yeah, anyway,
- 55:31Speaker 2: so there's some exciting movement on the ladder there. So
- 55:35Speaker 2: now the winner, if Catherine wins, she can't win the prize.
- 55:39Speaker 2: The winner of our prize will be getting a couple
- 55:44Speaker 2: of tickets to the no drible event that we are having.
- 55:46Speaker 2: And this is an exciting announcement, and Network Austraila is
- 55:50Speaker 2: kind of surprised as we were going to be talking
- 55:52Speaker 2: about this in a couple of weeks, but we've got
- 55:53Speaker 2: to get her act together now. We will be having
- 55:55Speaker 2: an event the night before the Grand Final in Sydney
- 55:58Speaker 2: and we will have information on that on the Facebook
- 56:01Speaker 2: page in a couple days. But we will go on sale.
- 56:03Speaker 2: We'll put some on sale soon, a third of them
- 56:06Speaker 2: if you know that you're going to be in Melbourne
- 56:08Speaker 2: and you want to get this, but we will reserve
- 56:10Speaker 2: two of them and they'll go on sale twenty four
- 56:12Speaker 2: hours after Grand Final tickets go on sale. So you
- 56:14Speaker 2: don't want to be buying tickets to events and then
- 56:15Speaker 2: finding you can't get tickets to the game or whatever.
- 56:18Speaker 2: So but anyway, that is what Catherine Cox is not
- 56:21Speaker 2: playing for because she is working with us that night.
- 56:23Speaker 2: But keep an eye out for information about our event,
- 56:27Speaker 2: which will be on the Facebook page on the same
- 56:30Speaker 2: day that this episode goes live, and you'll have plenty
- 56:33Speaker 2: of time to plan it and will tell you how
- 56:35Speaker 2: much it costs so.
- 56:36Speaker 3: You can Yeah, that's exciting.
- 56:40Speaker 2: It is very exciting. We had a lot of fun
- 56:41Speaker 2: last time in Sydney. But Liz, there's one thing that
- 56:44Speaker 2: we have to talk to Gordy about that I sent
- 56:46Speaker 2: you during the week, and I think, given we've talked
- 56:48Speaker 2: so much about coaches, and given your chickens are named
- 56:51Speaker 2: after netball coaches, I feel like this is an important
- 56:55Speaker 2: conversation for us to close out today's episode with. Would
- 56:59Speaker 2: you like to exp playing the setup to Gordy?
- 57:02Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 57:02Speaker 1: So god he Carolyn sent me a video and I anyway,
- 57:06Speaker 1: it was of a bloke he got locked in a
- 57:08Speaker 1: room with one hundred chucks and there was like a
- 57:11Speaker 1: bed and a stove and a fridge and some other
- 57:13Speaker 1: bits and pieces and he had to stay in the
- 57:15Speaker 1: room for twenty four hours for ten thousand bucks. And
- 57:20Speaker 1: you think that's really easy, but as I can attest,
- 57:23Speaker 1: it does nothing but rain at my place at the moment.
- 57:25Speaker 1: And every time the garages opened, the chicks, the chooks
- 57:28Speaker 1: come in and shit everywhere, right, so they are the
- 57:31Speaker 1: greatest pooers of all time.
- 57:33Speaker 4: And I looked at.
- 57:34Speaker 1: This bloke trying to survive in a room full of
- 57:39Speaker 1: chickens that were poohing everywhere, on his bed, everywhere, and
- 57:43Speaker 1: he just made the twenty four hour cut off. But
- 57:45Speaker 1: for every day he stayed in there, he was going
- 57:47Speaker 1: to get ten thousand bucks. So I ask you, sup Aaudian,
- 57:50Speaker 1: how long would you have stayed in there?
- 57:53Speaker 3: Oh? I don't know. I can't. I hate poop, I
- 58:03Speaker 3: hate all sorts of pooh. I hate seagull I don't, Lizzia,
- 58:07Speaker 3: I don't think I could do it.
- 58:09Speaker 2: You couldn't do twenty four hours for ten grand?
- 58:12Speaker 3: Ten grand? I mean, I like ten grand's nice, but
- 58:14Speaker 3: if you put another zero, I could do twenty four hours.
- 58:17Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 58:17Speaker 2: I don't get out of bed for that sort of money.
- 58:20Speaker 3: No, do you know what I could do that chickens?
- 58:23Speaker 3: I could do twenty four hours, But I think once
- 58:27Speaker 3: I knew I'd won ten grand, doing another day to
- 58:29Speaker 3: win another ten grand becomes all he could? Yeah so much?
- 58:34Speaker 3: Who and it apparently stak people would have.
- 58:38Speaker 2: Been raged, But I just so this guy. So once
- 58:41Speaker 2: he started collecting the eggs, once he gave those to
- 58:43Speaker 2: the people who organized it, and they said, well, here
- 58:46Speaker 2: you go, you can have a like an Xbox controller.
- 58:49Speaker 2: But it was in a cage, and the code for
- 58:52Speaker 2: the cage was on the leg of one of the chickens,
- 58:56Speaker 2: so he had to catch that. He's seen the whole
- 59:00Speaker 2: time trying to keep them off his bed and he
- 59:03Speaker 2: moved the furniture around quite a lot in this thing.
- 59:06Speaker 2: But it's like put the bed against the wall and
- 59:08Speaker 2: put the mattress up on its side until you want
- 59:11Speaker 2: to lie down on the mattress. It's like there's you know,
- 59:13Speaker 2: make the flat surface smaller. But okay, so we'll put
- 59:17Speaker 2: you down as a no for the No Dribble one
- 59:20Speaker 2: hundred chickens challenge at the No Dribble the night before
- 59:23Speaker 2: the gradar.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Do what do you know what but think about chickens?
- 59:26Speaker 1: And I was thinking about this. The poo's bad. But
- 59:28Speaker 1: they're actually quite reptilian, like you know that they're like
- 59:31Speaker 1: related to dinosaurs. They're like in the last living relative
- 59:35Speaker 1: of the dinosaurs. When you observe them closely, they are
- 59:38Speaker 1: very reptilian like they look, well.
- 59:40Speaker 3: How does that win a room for twenty four hours?
- 59:42Speaker 4: It makes it worse.
- 59:43Speaker 3: That's laughing like reptilians in a room for twenty four hours?
- 59:48Speaker 2: What's great? This guy thought he had some chicken feet
- 59:50Speaker 2: and he put it in one corner. So then of
- 59:52Speaker 2: course the hundred chickens are away from him and away
- 59:54Speaker 2: from his bed for five minutes. But it made them pooh, more.
- 59:58Speaker 3: It was just that I was thinking, O.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Mine go, would you have named them all? Do you
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: know one hundred netball coaches that you could name the
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: chickens after?
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: No, they just would have been five Normals, five Julies,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: five Jeels.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, and you sent me that link. I
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: want to see what.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: It is absolutely and we'll try to put it on
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: the socials. I'm sure that I'm competent enough to do that.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Although Catherine's usually the one who does all of that stuff,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: She's not here this week, so we don't have a
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: wing win beneath our wings nominations, so we will hold
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: that over for another week. Dribblers, here's what we need
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: you to do. We need you to share this podcast
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: please with your friends, think of someone you love who
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: would enjoy a laugh, because you know we want to
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: invite more people into this conversation. Don't forget to put
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: your tips in stay safe this week. I'm running out
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: of instructions for the dribblers, but you know we'll put
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: some generic ones in there. But make sure you eat
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: enough fiber and drink enough water during the week. But
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: what a terrific conversation.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Thank you very much for coming again, and Kat you
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: have a week from hell here, but we are looking
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: forward to having me back next week. And yeah, I
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: think that's probably all for now. So I'm Caroline Swindell.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: I'm Lynn Dallas, and I'm super Audio.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: See you guys have a great week. Bye bye
