Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody?
- 0:14Speaker 1: It is Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan and we continue
- 0:17Speaker 1: to do our schedule analysis series. We are now into
- 0:21Speaker 1: part three of the four part podcast, and what we're
- 0:24Speaker 1: gonna do is because we all basically covered the first
- 0:27Speaker 1: nine weeks of the season in the first two and
- 0:30Speaker 1: then the Eagles have the bye week week ten, so
- 0:32Speaker 1: they come out of the Buy against the Steelers. Then
- 0:35Speaker 1: they'll do the Cowboys. We've already done Eagles Cowboys. So
- 0:38Speaker 1: really we're gonna do Steelers Cardinals week thirteen, Cults in
- 0:42Speaker 1: Philadelphia week fourteen in this podcast and really go inside
- 0:46Speaker 1: these three games. And Adam, there's something cool about going
- 0:49Speaker 1: into the Buy, having that reset, that rest, and coming
- 0:52Speaker 1: out and facing Steelers, which is always a weird game.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Sometimes it's very lopsided on either side. But I always
- 0:59Speaker 1: enjoy Eagles versus Steelers.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, some weird stuff, some very weird stuff over the years.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And gosh, the game in Philly when Rothsberger and b
- 1:10Speaker 2: Doc you might remember, I think it was early in
- 1:13Speaker 2: Rothsberger's career. I think they made the big play against him,
- 1:17Speaker 2: if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, it's it definitely. I mean
- 1:22Speaker 2: they are in the other conference, but they have an
- 1:24Speaker 2: interesting history. Yeah, if I recall correctly, folks will remember
- 1:30Speaker 2: this one. Was it nineteen ninety nine or two thousand?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Did the Eagles have an on side kick against Steelers?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Oh, that one might be a little before my time.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, two thousand, it was two thousand. The Eagles wound
- 1:49Speaker 2: up beating the Steelers in overtime twenty six, twenty three.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But I'd have to remember was an Acres on side
- 1:55Speaker 2: kick for folks will remember who really? We mean Jodah camera,
- 1:57Speaker 2: he'll know it. We should get camera in here. But anyway, Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: so yeah, this is and the Steelers we're gonna get
- 2:04Speaker 2: into this. They're gonna be They're gonna be better. Rogers
- 2:08Speaker 2: is back, They're gonna be better, coach, better schemes defensively
- 2:13Speaker 2: and offensively. Mike McCarthy is back being a head coach
- 2:18Speaker 2: where he grew up in Pittsburgh. It's kind of a
- 2:19Speaker 2: cool story. Yep. And they won to McKay lemon will
- 2:22Speaker 2: explain why they won him, Kaye Lemon, it's interesting McCarthy
- 2:26Speaker 2: was involved in it though, was in his decision, but
- 2:28Speaker 2: he wanted him. So this is gonna be a fun matchup.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, real quick. Only one time in the last four
- 2:35Speaker 1: or five, six seven matchups between these two teams has
- 2:39Speaker 1: it been a one possession game, and that was twenty
- 2:42Speaker 1: twelve when the Eagles lost sixteen to fourteen in Pittsburgh.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But the Eagles have won the last two games. Both
- 2:49Speaker 1: have obviously been in Philadelphia twenty seven thirteen, thirty five thirteen.
- 2:54Speaker 1: There was a thirty eight twenty nine win by the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Steelers in twenty twenty. There was a thirty four to
- 3:00Speaker 1: three win by the Eagles in twenty sixteen. It's it's
- 3:04Speaker 1: just so mind boggling to me that these two franchises
- 3:07Speaker 1: that are constantly in the playoffs, constantly good well rod organizations,
- 3:11Speaker 1: they play each other and they did just they demolish
- 3:14Speaker 1: each other. It's just a very odd thing.
- 3:16Speaker 2: That game two years ago, Hurts was phenomenal right in
- 3:19Speaker 2: Week fifteen, because they actually shut Barkley down. They did
- 3:23Speaker 2: a good, very good job of Steelers did but Aj
- 3:25Speaker 2: Brown DeVante Smith both went over one hundred yards. Hurts
- 3:29Speaker 2: was so aggressive throwing the football. It was one of
- 3:32Speaker 2: those game. Was that the game we said, this is
- 3:35Speaker 2: what you all wanted to see was that the one?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I mean it was, I think it was.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Ye, I loved it that Rice smiles laughing, like tell him,
- 3:43Speaker 2: tell him, man, he was great in that game. And
- 3:45Speaker 2: it's one of those games where you go, why can't
- 3:47Speaker 2: he be this aggressive? Right? Why can't he make these
- 3:49Speaker 2: tight window throws? They weren't all deep throws?
- 3:53Speaker 1: No, that's you're right. There was a lot of no
- 3:56Speaker 1: huddle and a lot of over the middle stuff.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was with Kellen Moore bother So moving forward
- 4:01Speaker 2: here Pittsburgh with brand new offensive defensive scheme. So this
- 4:07Speaker 2: is a West Coast offense. Arthur Smith technically runs one
- 4:11Speaker 2: of Someone who worked for him told me, but I
- 4:13Speaker 2: don't even know a tree he was running because it
- 4:15Speaker 2: was awful. He's just not a good play caller, bad schemer. Yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 2: very dry McCarthy as. Someone told me he really needs
- 4:27Speaker 2: a slot receiver. He wanted mackay Lemon to be that guy.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So they got beat out by the Eagles for him.
- 4:32Speaker 2: So they drafted Jeremy Bernard from Alabama, who will be
- 4:37Speaker 2: their slot receiver. And really, when you look at it,
- 4:41Speaker 2: you've got two tall receivers who really are not you
- 4:44Speaker 2: could like Pittman can line up on but he's not
- 4:47Speaker 2: a slot receiver. They needed a true slot and that's
- 4:50Speaker 2: why they wanted McKay lemon, and McCarthy kind of told
- 4:53Speaker 2: their personnel staff, Hey, I need this guy. What it
- 4:55Speaker 2: was in his call. Omar Khan makes the decisions with personnel,
- 4:59Speaker 2: their general manager. But you know, overall their offense is
- 5:03Speaker 2: gonna look different. They're gonna have a tanhem of Jalen Warren,
- 5:07Speaker 2: Rico dalle at running back. Caleb Johnson you have to
- 5:10Speaker 2: won where he fits in because he got no run
- 5:12Speaker 2: last year with Arthur Smith third round or from Iowa.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you. I kind of think that I
- 5:19Speaker 1: give everyone on the Steelers offense a little bit of
- 5:22Speaker 1: a clean slate because, for whatever reason, Arthur Smith offense
- 5:26Speaker 1: and you know, bad being a bad play caller and
- 5:28Speaker 1: being married to certain kind of like schemes and formations,
- 5:31Speaker 1: whether or not they were productive. I mean we saw
- 5:33Speaker 1: that even in Atlanta and how he used Pajon Robinson
- 5:37Speaker 1: for whatever reason. I always feel like maybe I listened
- 5:40Speaker 1: to a little bit too much sports talk in Philadelphia area.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I feel like people view Mike McCarthy as a clown coach,
- 5:48Speaker 1: as a joke, And I don't understand that he's been
- 5:51Speaker 1: a very successful coach. He's won a Super Bowl, he
- 5:54Speaker 1: has ten double digit win seasons. He won twelve games
- 5:58Speaker 1: with Dallas, three straight. And you know how difficult it
- 6:01Speaker 1: can be to win in Dallas with all the other
- 6:03Speaker 1: things going on in the front. I mean, listen, they
- 6:05Speaker 1: have talent, but they also have a lot of stuff
- 6:07Speaker 1: going on up front. Like he's a good coach, and
- 6:09Speaker 1: he's particularly good at working with all types of quarterbacks
- 6:13Speaker 1: and dictating offensive tempo. I think he's always been very
- 6:16Speaker 1: good at that, and I see for the Steelers going
- 6:20Speaker 1: from Arthur Smith to Mike McCarthy is a good thing.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I don't know understand why people bash McCarthy. I mean,
- 6:25Speaker 1: he did win a Super Bowl. Who knows, But he's
- 6:28Speaker 1: not perfect by any stretch of the means. He is
- 6:30Speaker 1: a little bit old school. But more often than not,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you give him a talent a roster, especially of offensive players,
- 6:35Speaker 1: which the Steelers have. They're not great, but they've got
- 6:39Speaker 1: some talented offensive players, and he'll make do with what
- 6:42Speaker 1: he's got. And you look at the wide receiver situation,
- 6:46Speaker 1: all right, he's got two good ones. Got Pittman he's
- 6:49Speaker 1: got Metcalf. They want the McKay lemon. We know that
- 6:51Speaker 1: they'll have they draft Bernard, they still have Roman Wilson
- 6:54Speaker 1: that they'll try to get something out of. And by
- 6:56Speaker 1: the way, by the time the season starts, they may
- 6:59Speaker 1: have a different a veteran's number three receiver who knows.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You know, they don't have to be done remaking that
- 7:04Speaker 1: they have a good tight end with friar Mouth. Ist
- 7:08Speaker 1: is Washington hurt Adam or is he coming back from
- 7:10Speaker 1: the injury that big huge?
- 7:12Speaker 2: Not sure, but he'll be that. Yeah, I'm not sure,
- 7:14Speaker 2: but what happened there was darn and Washington's the y
- 7:17Speaker 2: tight end. He is a Mount Washington as you call him.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I've seen him in training camp. He's just a huge
- 7:22Speaker 2: dude who's more athletic than you think. But friar Mouth
- 7:27Speaker 2: under Arthur Smith just just completely minimized. Remember they brought
- 7:30Speaker 2: in Jonah Smith or Arthur Smithy wound up coaching him
- 7:33Speaker 2: in three different areas Tennessee, Atlanta, and in Pittsburgh. And
- 7:39Speaker 2: Smith didn't know it. He just didn't know how to
- 7:41Speaker 2: get these guys to football. Okay, it's ridiculous, it's just
- 7:44Speaker 2: spand coaching yep. And McCarthy knows how to get the
- 7:46Speaker 2: tight end the football. Remember Jamichael Finley many years ago. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 2: some other tight ends.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Oh, Jake Ferguson. I have eight years under McCarthy in Dallas.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll get the ball. Yeah, I mean fry Moth
- 7:58Speaker 2: for fantasy. He's a guy who want to look at
- 8:00Speaker 2: late in your drafts. But so my understanding with Caleb
- 8:04Speaker 2: Johnson was Arthur Smith was more of a outside zone
- 8:09Speaker 2: set of inside zone play caller in the run game
- 8:11Speaker 2: and it did not fit Caleb Johnson with the other
- 8:13Speaker 2: running backs right, and it was a disaster. And the
- 8:17Speaker 2: hope is now with McCarthy that Johnson will have a
- 8:20Speaker 2: bigger role where he had no role last year. Now,
- 8:22Speaker 2: the other thing on offense is, you know the offensive
- 8:25Speaker 2: line to keep building on it. Fatano iron anchor, who's
- 8:30Speaker 2: their first rounders? A little bit raw? Uh. They don't
- 8:33Speaker 2: know exactly when Brodick Jones will be coming back from
- 8:35Speaker 2: his injury, so it's going to be Fatano probably right
- 8:37Speaker 2: now at left iron ac court right this Mason McCormick
- 8:43Speaker 2: was just a really interesting player who was a fourth
- 8:46Speaker 2: round out of South Dakota State who start. He'll start
- 8:50Speaker 2: it at right guard. This guy was much belign to
- 8:53Speaker 2: the scouting community. Nobody really liked him. But I give
- 8:56Speaker 2: I got to give the steelersh credit. They saw. This
- 8:59Speaker 2: is what's great about scouting. We could like a player
- 9:03Speaker 2: you don't like, and sometimes it turns out to be
- 9:06Speaker 2: right for us and wrong for you. But hey, Mace
- 9:09Speaker 2: McCormick is the right guard. He's a good football player.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, Isaac Sayamalin moves on to the Cardinals, getting Stunker,
- 9:18Speaker 2: the rookie, the third rounder will have to compete for
- 9:20Speaker 2: that left guard job. Jack Driscoll, by the ways back
- 9:23Speaker 2: he was with them laster coming back from the ankle injury.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Zach Frazier they think is an all pro. Like he's
- 9:29Speaker 2: one of the best centers at football, not just one
- 9:31Speaker 2: of the best young centers. And he's good yep, yep,
- 9:36Speaker 2: as you said, out of West Virginia. So this has
- 9:38Speaker 2: the makings with Metcalf, with Pittman, with Bernard. If he
- 9:41Speaker 2: could be that slot receiver Rouman, Wilson could play inside
- 9:44Speaker 2: as well. He can do both. The former staff buried Wilson,
- 9:48Speaker 2: they wouldn't play him. He had a couple of injuries
- 9:50Speaker 2: over his short career. But he's in year three. But
- 9:53Speaker 2: they've got enough here to have a much improved offense.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, and I like this offensive line. I
- 9:59Speaker 1: do wonder if when Roger Jones comes back, if they
- 10:01Speaker 1: have any plan to move him maybe to that left
- 10:04Speaker 1: guard spot, because he has struggle all the times at tackle,
- 10:07Speaker 1: and maybe they can sort of Machai becton him into
- 10:10Speaker 1: the you know, take a huge man and just just
- 10:12Speaker 1: make him a guard. Wouldn't surprise me if that was
- 10:15Speaker 1: the case. And when they put Washington and by the way,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you got to say it, like the Pittsburgh at the insurs,
- 10:19Speaker 1: it's Washington right Mount Washington on the field. They're a big,
- 10:23Speaker 1: big team, and they give Aaron Rodgers some extra protection.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So you know, are they deep? No, not really, But
- 10:30Speaker 1: they've got enough talent that if they stay healthy and
- 10:33Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy does what he does, then this should be
- 10:35Speaker 1: a pretty pretty functional offense. We'll be interested to see
- 10:39Speaker 1: how much gas that Aaron Rodgers has left in the tank.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But he showed you.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Last year he can still rip the scene. He doesn't
- 10:45Speaker 1: make as many deep throws as he used to. He
- 10:48Speaker 1: doesn't throw on the run like he used to. He's
- 10:50Speaker 1: trying to get rid of the ball quickly. But that's
- 10:52Speaker 1: actually a good thing with this McCarthy offense. So I
- 10:55Speaker 1: think it'll there'll be more harmony between the play caller
- 10:58Speaker 1: and the quarterback. But he's not going to be a
- 11:02Speaker 1: he's not going to carry the offense on his back anyways.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Those days are gone.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and their hope is that running game will will help.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But now looking at the the good thing is the
- 11:11Speaker 2: Eagles have a toss pair of corners with Mitchell and
- 11:15Speaker 2: with Woolen or certainly one of the top YEP quarterback
- 11:18Speaker 2: groups in terms of size. Yeah, and with the move
- 11:22Speaker 2: of Degene to safety, you can match up against them
- 11:26Speaker 2: like you. You've got the size, the athleticism to do it.
- 11:29Speaker 2: That's a good thing. And if depending on how much
- 11:33Speaker 2: eleven personnel that they have, if Bernard's ready to play
- 11:36Speaker 2: the slot, they may play a lot eleven comparatively to
- 11:40Speaker 2: under Arthur Smith, who's not a big eleven guy, So
- 11:43Speaker 2: that could change a little bit. They'll they'll get an
- 11:46Speaker 2: idea early. But to me, with the Eagles front, with
- 11:50Speaker 2: the Joemo Davis, Carter, Grenard Hunt or Smith, we'll see
- 11:56Speaker 2: about mccooba. Overall, the Eagles matchup very well against their
- 12:00Speaker 2: offense and offensive line.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it almost makes me wonder, you know, in
- 12:04Speaker 1: this lead, as we get into the second half of
- 12:06Speaker 1: the season, would the Steelers try to just see if
- 12:09Speaker 1: they can expose the Eagles a little bit in the
- 12:11Speaker 1: run game with how big they are on the offensive line.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And you know, we've seen the Eagles have some lapses
- 12:17Speaker 1: in run defense, so we'll have to see if that
- 12:19Speaker 1: gets short up this year. How about defense, Obviously, the
- 12:24Speaker 1: Steelers have a really good They always have a good
- 12:25Speaker 1: front seven, but I really like their defensive front, Adam.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I mean, they got a lot of guys who can
- 12:29Speaker 1: play ball.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So what I was told is that they were really
- 12:33Speaker 2: bad on the back end, communication wise, back and yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 2: they were running, they were running Tomlin's scheme and they
- 12:42Speaker 2: just could not get it. They just could not get
- 12:45Speaker 2: Terro Austin was running. There was the defense coordinator, but
- 12:47Speaker 2: it was Tomlin's defense. Too many big plays. Joey Porter,
- 12:51Speaker 2: very inconsistent. Joey Porter junior now on the final vers
- 12:54Speaker 2: rookie deal. Jamal Dean is there now, Tall corner. Lots
- 12:58Speaker 2: of injuries, Jayalen Ramseley plays at High browl They'll play
- 13:01Speaker 2: some nickel, they'll play some safety, he'll play some corner,
- 13:06Speaker 2: but they've given up some plays. Now. The thing is
- 13:09Speaker 2: they're changing their scheme. Yes, it's the thirty four uner
- 13:12Speaker 2: Patrick Graham, but the philosophy and the coverages are going
- 13:14Speaker 2: to be different. Right Tewan Brisker comes over from Chicago.
- 13:18Speaker 2: He'll be one of the starting safeties with the oft
- 13:20Speaker 2: injured of battalented Deshaun Elliott, and they drafted Dalen Everett,
- 13:26Speaker 2: who's a corner from Georgia. Has also got good size,
- 13:28Speaker 2: so they've got the size to match up against anybody.
- 13:31Speaker 2: But the question is is TJ Watt by the way,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and this plays into it with their secondary he turns
- 13:39Speaker 2: thirty two in October, so he'll be thirty two by
- 13:41Speaker 2: the time he goes play him. He was not the player.
- 13:48Speaker 2: He was not the lead player he once was. Last
- 13:50Speaker 2: season he wasn't even close to it. Still very good,
- 13:54Speaker 2: but not that player. Alex Highsmith or the subject of
- 13:56Speaker 2: trade rumors, and Nate Herberg's younger brother, Nick Herbrigg. Production
- 14:00Speaker 2: by snap is phenomenal. One of the best third edges
- 14:03Speaker 2: of the National Footballaga and Jack Sawyer, workmanlike guy out
- 14:06Speaker 2: of Ohio State with fourth Ronald last year, so they
- 14:09Speaker 2: could get after it. And I really like this defense
- 14:15Speaker 2: corner Patrick Graham very sound, his defensive competitive. You look
- 14:18Speaker 2: at the Raider defenses, one of the least talented teams
- 14:22Speaker 2: in the National FOOTBA League on defense, but very very discipplined.
- 14:26Speaker 1: He's the best defensive coordinator that nobody talks about. I
- 14:28Speaker 1: mean I remember when he was with the Giants and
- 14:31Speaker 1: they had not too much to work with and he
- 14:33Speaker 1: was out there like putting some pretty good defenses out there.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So he's good. He is really good, and he's actually
- 14:40Speaker 1: got a he's got a good front. They're a little
- 14:42Speaker 1: long in the tooth, like you mentioned with with Hayward
- 14:44Speaker 1: with Watt, but they can rotate guys. Harmon wound up
- 14:48Speaker 1: having a nice rookie year.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He's good. Yeah, he had a knee injury, then he
- 14:52Speaker 2: got healthy. Yep. They brought in Sebastian Joseph Date you
- 14:55Speaker 2: might remember him amount of Rutgers, sure, so he'll be
- 14:59Speaker 2: that first guy off the band a linebacker wise. Blake
- 15:02Speaker 2: Harrison you might remember from the Ravens, is pretty good
- 15:04Speaker 2: backup Queen and Wilson and Peyton Wilson has been better
- 15:09Speaker 2: than they Cale Holcome's there. So yeah, you talk about
- 15:11Speaker 2: their depth, They've got plenty of depth at inside backer. Now,
- 15:16Speaker 2: remember Patrick Graham runs his version of Belichick's defense, so
- 15:21Speaker 2: they are multiple. They sometimes will play to the like
- 15:25Speaker 2: they'll make adjustments for the opponent and there in their
- 15:28Speaker 2: study and what they do during the week during practice,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and they'll run that that's what Belichick would do. Greaton's
- 15:34Speaker 2: just really smart. He's he's I agree with that, he's
- 15:36Speaker 2: really really good. This is a tough matchup. This to
- 15:39Speaker 2: me is a very even matchup. And by the way,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and I know the Eagles have this. This is just
- 15:44Speaker 2: the way the schedule worked out. The Steelers have Thereby.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Let's see Thereby is in I think it's in week
- 15:52Speaker 2: I think it's two weeks before the Eagles play them
- 15:54Speaker 2: on double check.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But yeah, the thing about this team, Adam, in a
- 15:58Speaker 1: broader sense, is that they're just a I mean, the
- 16:00Speaker 1: quarterback's ancient. Jayleen Ramsey is an old guy. Uh Cam
- 16:06Speaker 1: Hayward is an older guy.
- 16:08Speaker 2: T J.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Watt, as you mentioned, is an older guy. Patrick Queen
- 16:11Speaker 1: has been playing football for for quite a while now
- 16:14Speaker 1: they're really kind of lacking in that young game changing
- 16:18Speaker 1: talent and even some of their younger guys or like
- 16:20Speaker 1: a Michael Pittman, he's not old, he's not young. He's
- 16:22Speaker 1: not an explosive player. He's a good player, it's not
- 16:25Speaker 1: very explosive. They don't have guys that just like you
- 16:29Speaker 1: when when they touch the ball, they can score from
- 16:32Speaker 1: anywhere type of guys. And so I think that they're
- 16:34Speaker 1: gonna have to be a very methodical team. And I
- 16:37Speaker 1: do think the Eagles will be able to put the
- 16:40Speaker 1: ball in the like if Barkley is having a comeback year,
- 16:44Speaker 1: if DeVante Smith is truly the wide receiver one they
- 16:48Speaker 1: the Eagles have more explosive elements. So you get the
- 16:50Speaker 1: ball in their hand against this team and lead, it
- 16:52Speaker 1: could get it could it could snowball quickly because they
- 16:55Speaker 1: can't just sit there and light up the scoreboard.
- 16:58Speaker 2: They don't have that. They don't have an explosive back,
- 17:01Speaker 2: they don't have the explosive receiver. I mean, well, I'd
- 17:03Speaker 2: say this metcalf is a his problem and the reason
- 17:08Speaker 2: why he was not draft in the first round. Yes,
- 17:11Speaker 2: it was partially the concern about the neck. But he's
- 17:14Speaker 2: he's got problems throttling down. He's not a guy's gonna
- 17:17Speaker 2: catch a lot of short air passes. You're gonna get
- 17:19Speaker 2: him on slants where he uses his big frame, or
- 17:23Speaker 2: nine roundes or seven rounds, but more nine routes. He's
- 17:26Speaker 2: just not that guy. He's not a possession receiver. Now,
- 17:30Speaker 2: Roman Wilson, they had high hopes for when they drafted him.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Apparently he's got great hands, but the former staff got
- 17:35Speaker 2: down on them early because he got hurt. If your
- 17:37Speaker 2: young players who explained to me and with Tomlin and
- 17:40Speaker 2: you get hurt, it's like out of sight Ada mine unfortunately.
- 17:43Speaker 2: But he could accelerate after the catch. But you're right,
- 17:46Speaker 2: they don't have that guy. So yeah, the Steelers, by
- 17:49Speaker 2: the way, when you look at the schedule, it's interesting
- 17:50Speaker 2: the way it breaks down. Their bye week is in
- 17:53Speaker 2: week nine, so they play the Eagles, and this game
- 17:55Speaker 2: is a week eleven, by the way, November twenty second
- 17:57Speaker 2: and four to twenty five. The week before say divisional game,
- 18:01Speaker 2: they're at the Bengals. Oh well, come off the motion
- 18:04Speaker 2: of that game. You see how the Steelers who have
- 18:07Speaker 2: to travel to Philly. Of course, it's a very short flight.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I've taken it many times. It's less than forty five minutes.
- 18:12Speaker 2: But they got to go on the road and a
- 18:15Speaker 2: non divisional game after having emotional game at the Bengals
- 18:19Speaker 2: the week.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Before, right, And that's a four to twenty five kickoff
- 18:22Speaker 1: on CBS in Week eleven there between the Eagles and
- 18:24Speaker 1: the Steelers. Week twelve is the Cowboys. We did that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We went inside that matchup in are Part two. So
- 18:31Speaker 1: we're gonna go ahead to Week thirteen. The Eagles do
- 18:34Speaker 1: have to travel and it ain't a little plane ride.
- 18:37Speaker 1: It's all the way out to the desert to face
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals four h five kickoff here on the
- 18:43Speaker 1: East Coast. This Cardinals team, man, I know that. Listen.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I think I told you this in a podcast in
- 18:53Speaker 1: the off season. I was really intrigued with their head
- 18:56Speaker 1: coach higher I think it's gonna work out. But they've
- 19:01Speaker 1: they're they're far there. There are a couple of years
- 19:03Speaker 1: away from being a couple of years away.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Even with my favorite phrase, even with.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Some decent offseason Actus, you know, I like the saym Alu,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I would still think he's got some gas left in
- 19:14Speaker 1: the tank, Kendrick Bourne, gives him somebody opposite Marvin Harrison,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and and you know, Michael Wilson had a really nice
- 19:19Speaker 1: year last year when one, yeah, really out of nowhere.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So but like you know, you're looking at this and
- 19:25Speaker 1: you're saying that Jacobe Prissett, they got some holes on defense.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I don't know, I'm not I'm not quite sure how
- 19:31Speaker 1: good this team is going to be in the first
- 19:33Speaker 1: year of the floor.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Well, they've got one explosive player at Suremia Love and
- 19:38Speaker 2: he's you know, you've got Algier who's the power pack,
- 19:41Speaker 2: James Connor who could help them the variety of waste.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Trey penz Is simply didn't work out. They missed on
- 19:45Speaker 2: him his third round or two years ago, wouldn't surprise me.
- 19:49Speaker 2: And off he's traded by training camp or for some
- 19:51Speaker 2: team that loses a running back of training camp due
- 19:53Speaker 2: to injury. Maybe that that they could find a home
- 19:55Speaker 2: for him. But yeah, it's when you really look at it.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Born goers to be their slot. Marvin Harrison has been
- 20:02Speaker 2: a disappointment. So far better last year than his rookie season,
- 20:04Speaker 2: but he's nowhere near what they thought. Bourne figures to
- 20:07Speaker 2: be their slot Wilson opposite Harrison. Mike Wilson did a
- 20:11Speaker 2: great job last season, pressed into service. Now he's on
- 20:14Speaker 2: the fone ofvers rookie deal Trey McBride, who's he's been
- 20:19Speaker 2: there passing game quite frankly since he was drafted by
- 20:23Speaker 2: Steve Kaim at twenty two in Mantis fourth a GM
- 20:26Speaker 2: got him. Yeah, Steve Km's last draft class. Uh yeah,
- 20:30Speaker 2: so this is crazy. Jacoby Brissett technically as of now
- 20:33Speaker 2: until he gets his contract adjusted and it will be
- 20:36Speaker 2: Gardner Minshew makes more than Jacoby Brissett, so I could
- 20:39Speaker 2: see why Jacob Brissett's kind of pissed off.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would imagine that. And by the way,
- 20:45Speaker 1: does James Connor want to be a number three running
- 20:47Speaker 1: back at the stage of his career behind Love? I mean, well,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I'm saying like maybe he can ask for a release
- 20:53Speaker 1: or to be true, I just feel like he's still
- 20:55Speaker 1: a pretty decent running back and he'll probably be somebody's
- 20:58Speaker 1: number two somewhere. So I don't even know him. Yeah three,
- 21:01Speaker 1: by the time.
- 21:01Speaker 2: He could still play. I believe he took I'm gonna
- 21:04Speaker 2: check his contract. I think he took a pay cut
- 21:05Speaker 2: to come back, Wait, Matt Prior. I just noticed that
- 21:11Speaker 2: Matt Pryor is now with the car. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Connor, yeah, Connor.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Let me just don't Yeah, because his total cash is
- 21:21Speaker 2: eight million. That can't that. I got to think that
- 21:23Speaker 2: they asked him to take a pay production. I'm gonna
- 21:25Speaker 2: look it up.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you're looking at my my overall thought on
- 21:28Speaker 1: their offenses, this is where we're going to see if
- 21:30Speaker 1: the Michaelafloor experiment starts to work, because they have to
- 21:34Speaker 1: me a bad offensive line. They have good left tackle
- 21:37Speaker 1: in Paris Johnson, good left guard obviously, Sam Oli is okay.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I know, Greg said just yeah, that's sure. Tape is
- 21:42Speaker 2: just okay, Yeah, it's just okay.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And then but from center to right guard to right tackle,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I've never even heard of their center, to be honest.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, he's uh yeah. The only reason why is
- 21:55Speaker 2: I didn't hear of him either when he was with
- 21:56Speaker 2: Cleveland and I was like, oh, is this guy that
- 21:58Speaker 2: sounds like an Harry Potter. How do you say HAJOLTI Froholt. Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 22:06Speaker 2: I know he's been this is He's actually not bad.
- 22:09Speaker 2: He's not bad. He's uh is a journeyman that kinda
- 22:12Speaker 2: did a nice job for the Browns. And then yeah,
- 22:15Speaker 2: he's their center. But you're right, they don't have a
- 22:17Speaker 2: stud of their offensive line. That boy, they've through time
- 22:22Speaker 2: and Austin for it. Now. They did draft a basantis
- 22:25Speaker 2: their second rounder. Hull start for sure. Yeah, we talked
- 22:27Speaker 2: about the pre draft process, but they do not say
- 22:30Speaker 2: mall who you mentioned. Overall, they don't have a very
- 22:32Speaker 2: good offensive line.
- 22:33Speaker 1: But that's where you just that's where michae Lafleur coming
- 22:37Speaker 1: from the from the forty nine ers and working with
- 22:40Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan right has to Can he adapt that system?
- 22:44Speaker 1: Can he overcome a blow average offensive? I mean he
- 22:49Speaker 1: doesn't even have a Trent Williams though, Like.
- 22:50Speaker 2: He's got no one, no one.
- 22:53Speaker 1: He's gonna really have to get creative with his schemes,
- 22:56Speaker 1: with his outside zone, with his marriage of run and pass.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I mean, they're gonna have to be able to Yet, Jerema,
- 23:01Speaker 1: how are they going to run against the Eagles? That's
- 23:03Speaker 1: what I keep thinking. How is this offensive line going
- 23:05Speaker 1: to be able to run against the Eagles? Even if
- 23:07Speaker 1: they do try to stretch the perimeter, everybody's going to
- 23:10Speaker 1: see it coming. It's just going to be and again
- 23:12Speaker 1: and things can change between now and obviously week thirteen,
- 23:15Speaker 1: Week fourteen. But I just don't know if personnel wise,
- 23:18Speaker 1: on offense, this team has enough right now. But at
- 23:21Speaker 1: least they've got some pieces, right. You've got Love, You've
- 23:24Speaker 1: got Marvin Harrison, You've got this kid Wilson who had
- 23:27Speaker 1: a good year last year. You got McBride who's one
- 23:30Speaker 1: of the best tight ends. They really just need a
- 23:32Speaker 1: few linemen in a quarterback. And I know that's like
- 23:35Speaker 1: obviously a lot. Yeah that's a lot, but they'll they'll
- 23:37Speaker 1: be it in the next draft.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Well, they also need Marvin Howards to become the player
- 23:41Speaker 2: that I mean. I have some friends who are in
- 23:44Speaker 2: scouting they're just shocked. Yeah, they thought he was generational, right,
- 23:48Speaker 2: potentially better. His father's All of Famer, And it's it's
- 23:54Speaker 2: just one of these things you can't explain, like why
- 23:56Speaker 2: is he route running, Like if you look at his
- 24:00Speaker 2: whole package, we're out running, run after the catch, hands,
- 24:03Speaker 2: mental character, all all off the hook, off the charts.
- 24:07Speaker 2: But something's happened with his confidence. He just has not
- 24:10Speaker 2: been that player hard right.
- 24:12Speaker 1: This feels like a vic Fangio. I am absolutely not.
- 24:15Speaker 1: This is gonna be one of my lowest blitz percentages.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I wouldn't blitz at all.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, like why do I blitz? I mean, even the
- 24:21Speaker 1: like you just said, their best player, Harrison doesn't necessarily
- 24:24Speaker 1: beat guys one on one down the field thirty yards,
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know. I mean he's so far sort of more
- 24:29Speaker 1: been like a possession guy than anything. So yeah, Vick's
- 24:33Speaker 1: just gonna let his front foward do the work.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I mean, look, you have to be aware of McBride
- 24:37Speaker 2: because this guy catches everything. He's a big volume target player.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You have to be aware of Love. No doubt the
- 24:45Speaker 2: guy's phenomenal back. The offense will go through him. I'm
- 24:49Speaker 2: expecting a ton of eleven personnel here with Micha Laflor,
- 24:56Speaker 2: who I'm interested to see because he's got he's got
- 24:59Speaker 2: influence from McVeigh, He's got influence from Shanahan. That true,
- 25:04Speaker 2: So how much will he run? But you've got McBride.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Tip Ryman's is their why tight end HM for those
- 25:10Speaker 2: of you fall the college football. He was a why
- 25:13Speaker 2: out of Illinois. And then you've got the ability with
- 25:16Speaker 2: Kendrick Bourne being there if he could still play. He's
- 25:18Speaker 2: had some injuries in his career to when they go eleven,
- 25:22Speaker 2: it's Harrison Wilson the outside born on the inside, so
- 25:24Speaker 2: they could do some things that they could protect. On
- 25:26Speaker 2: your point, A can they protect? Then with the Eagles front,
- 25:30Speaker 2: it's just more athletic and better the defensive front. So yeah,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I'm with you, dump Blitz. I could see Grenard having
- 25:36Speaker 2: a field day if paras Johnson's averages. We've heard that.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Hunt and Ebihetti and Nolan Smith, I just see them
- 25:44Speaker 2: dominating this game.
- 25:45Speaker 1: By the way, has it come? Is Nathaniel Hackett gonna
- 25:47Speaker 1: be the play caller?
- 25:49Speaker 2: I know he's the great question? Yeah? Yeah, I would.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I would think he'd have a chance because I had
- 25:55Speaker 2: heard he was in demand. Believe it or not. I
- 25:56Speaker 2: know people make fun of them, I know, I know.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Ain't Hackett? Yeah, son of Fall Hackett. You might remember him.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 26:07Speaker 1: All right. So on defense, Cardinals got a long way
- 26:11Speaker 1: to go as well. They do have some good young talent.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what if people didn't realize Walter
- 26:16Speaker 1: Nolan when he got healthy last year and finally got
- 26:18Speaker 1: on the field, he looked pretty good. That gotta looked
- 26:21Speaker 1: like everything we said about him go leading into the
- 26:23Speaker 1: draft that year. You remember how he was the top
- 26:26Speaker 1: three technique and he was just explosive on the inside
- 26:29Speaker 1: and like him yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean he he
- 26:32Speaker 1: had some games last year when he first got in
- 26:34Speaker 1: and started to look like that guy.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah. And Darish Robinson he's had a number of injuries. Yep.
- 26:40Speaker 2: He's another guy that's got length. He's he's got to
- 26:42Speaker 2: play up to first round Billing. Uh, journeyman Roy Lopez
- 26:48Speaker 2: probably their nickel they brought in. Andrew Billings is another
- 26:51Speaker 2: journeyman defensive tackle. Their past rush joshuatt Is. I don't know.
- 26:56Speaker 2: This is crazy with Joshua Yeah, like he whether he
- 27:00Speaker 2: wants to be traded or not. I mean they can't
- 27:02Speaker 2: afford to trade. And there's b j Lari was a
- 27:05Speaker 2: second rounder in twenty three. Has been hurt a lot.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Maaron Browning is explosive, but he's been hurt a lot.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Remember with Denver, he's he's he's there, and Zavin Collins
- 27:14Speaker 2: is sort of a Tweeneriley's not good enough. Vegles offensive
- 27:19Speaker 2: line should have no problems with this this front. Uh.
- 27:22Speaker 2: The cornerback group is interesting. With Will Johnson talented, you
- 27:25Speaker 2: might remember him second rounder last year. Denzel Burke, who's
- 27:30Speaker 2: a physical corner out of Ohio State. Garrett Wams and
- 27:33Speaker 2: uh Sean Murphy Bunning. Murphy Bunning's more of a nickel.
- 27:36Speaker 2: M hm. They've got enough a corner. Buddha Baker of course.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Andrew wind Guard. You might remember him with the long
- 27:42Speaker 2: hair from the Jaguars if you really follow the NFL.
- 27:44Speaker 2: He's funny looking dude. They're they're inside backers, okay. Mac
- 27:50Speaker 2: Wilson you might remember him from the Patriots and Browns,
- 27:52Speaker 2: and Cody Simon and Jack Gibbons, who's an underrated inside backer.
- 27:57Speaker 2: They're they're okay, yeah, and Nick Rowlis is back that
- 28:02Speaker 2: they kept him as a defensive coordinator. Thirty four front
- 28:04Speaker 2: smart move.
- 28:05Speaker 1: I think. I mean, if you if you like a guy,
- 28:07Speaker 1: and you know, you don't have to just start over
- 28:10Speaker 1: with you guys just because you're a new guy.
- 28:11Speaker 2: So that was yeah, yeah, yeah. By the way, James
- 28:14Speaker 2: Connor did take a picut, So he did. Yeah, we'll
- 28:18Speaker 2: see what his role is there. This to me, the
- 28:20Speaker 2: game should be close. Now. I'll say one thing about
- 28:22Speaker 2: Jacoby Brissette is a super aggressive thrower. Yes, was it
- 28:27Speaker 2: last year? Didn't have the game of well over four
- 28:29Speaker 2: hundred yards against the Rams? Yeah?
- 28:31Speaker 1: Last year?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Crazy game. Yeah, just ridiculous game and they still lost. Yeah.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Well it's usually the case when you have to throw.
- 28:39Speaker 1: If you have to throw for four hundred yards, you're
- 28:40Speaker 1: probably losing.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that game that I'm gonna find it. I'm gonna
- 28:46Speaker 2: find out what week it is, because the numbers are
- 28:48Speaker 2: just Boy, if you had him in fantasy, it's like,
- 28:50Speaker 2: I don't know why you would like you couldn't predict it.
- 28:54Speaker 2: But yeah, that game, I think it was weak. No,
- 28:59Speaker 2: what was it last year? I thought it was lest
- 29:01Speaker 2: I kind of scorned it. Well, it might have been,
- 29:03Speaker 2: but it was at against the Rams. Who is it against?
- 29:05Speaker 2: Do you remember? Oh? Man?
- 29:06Speaker 1: That I don't. I just know that my fantasy football
- 29:11Speaker 1: opponent had him in the first round. I oh, he
- 29:14Speaker 1: was throwing all these having these games, and then he
- 29:17Speaker 1: had a dud game in the for in week like fifteen.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So you know.
- 29:21Speaker 2: What I think it was against the Niners. Yes, insane,
- 29:26Speaker 2: this is crazy. Forty seven for fifty seven, Yeah, four
- 29:31Speaker 2: fifty two but only two touchdowns. That's why they lost.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean they got killed by the way they
- 29:36Speaker 1: lost by almost twenty three, yeah, forty one, twenty two.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, they got absolutely destroyed. But Michael Wilson just ridiculous.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Eighteen targets at fifteen catches won for one eighty five. Yeah.
- 29:48Speaker 2: He he was a guy had a lot of promise
- 29:50Speaker 2: coming out of Stanford. It never really showed it, and
- 29:52Speaker 2: then he got pressed into service. They had a great
- 29:55Speaker 2: season over thirteen.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So one thing about the and and maybe
- 30:01Speaker 1: maybe this is where I'm underestimating them a little bit.
- 30:04Speaker 1: If I'm not mistaken, I'll go to check it real quick.
- 30:06Speaker 1: I think the Cardinals lost a ton of games last
- 30:09Speaker 1: year by like five points or less. If I'm not
- 30:12Speaker 1: mistaken something crazy like that, I have to go. Look,
- 30:16Speaker 1: they were in a ton of games, so that.
- 30:19Speaker 2: That's been the problem for years. They should They choke
- 30:21Speaker 2: a lot of game, not a lot, but they choked
- 30:23Speaker 2: them and they they're the problem is, folks, they've just
- 30:26Speaker 2: never been talented enough. And but they've been in quarterback
- 30:29Speaker 2: purgatory for years, right, Cayler Murray regressed when you don't,
- 30:34Speaker 2: this is what has been the problem. I know they
- 30:36Speaker 2: made the playoffs under Steve Kine, but when you don't
- 30:39Speaker 2: address your lions effectively, you cannot win. It's like never fails.
- 30:45Speaker 2: If you're not strong the lines, you cannot win, right,
- 30:48Speaker 2: and they're not play real.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Quick before we get to that, we're gonna go to
- 30:51Speaker 1: the Colts next. But these were the This is the
- 30:53Speaker 1: first ten games of the Cardinal season last year. Okay,
- 30:56Speaker 1: they lost a season opener by seven to the Saints.
- 30:58Speaker 1: They lost a week two to the Panthers by five.
- 31:01Speaker 1: They lost to the Niners by one, They lost to
- 31:03Speaker 1: the Seahawks by three, they lost the Titans by one,
- 31:06Speaker 1: they lost to the Colts by four. They lost the
- 31:08Speaker 1: Packers by four. All right, so we're seven weeks into
- 31:12Speaker 1: the season and every single game was by four or
- 31:15Speaker 1: less points. So they were in a lot of and
- 31:18Speaker 1: then after that, you know, the roof kind of caved in.
- 31:20Speaker 2: This is crazy. They were two and oh and then
- 31:25Speaker 2: then they would go one and third. That's I'm sorry.
- 31:27Speaker 1: They won the first game you're at and then they
- 31:29Speaker 1: lost those games.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they won to They were two and oh
- 31:32Speaker 2: and would wind up winning one game and the rest
- 31:35Speaker 2: of the season after Week three. That's embarrassing that that's
- 31:37Speaker 2: just that they were never competitive on the Jonathan Gannon. Overall,
- 31:41Speaker 2: of course, they beat the Eagles if you remember right,
- 31:43Speaker 2: it's an embarrassing game in Philly, but overall not very good.
- 31:46Speaker 3: By the way, if you're thinking about hitting any away

- 32:51Speaker 1: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 32:54Speaker 1: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students, servicemen,
- 33:00Speaker 1: and healthcare pros cam din Apothecary, top quality cannabis, great prices,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 33:10Speaker 1: All right, So Indianapolis Colts would be the next game.
- 33:13Speaker 1: We'll finish it out for part three here. This will
- 33:16Speaker 1: be in Philadelphia one o'clock kickoff. I love this game because,
- 33:20Speaker 1: you know, and I was in some ways I wish
- 33:22Speaker 1: they had played last year because they were so similar
- 33:24Speaker 1: like the last year's Colts. The way it started for
- 33:27Speaker 1: them when they were like eight and one, they reminded
- 33:29Speaker 1: me so much of the Eagles from the year before.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I mean, they were getting this just overwhelming running game
- 33:35Speaker 1: with Jonathan Taylor. They're getting a quarterback who was just
- 33:38Speaker 1: playing really efficiently. Pop a deep ball every once in
- 33:42Speaker 1: a while, Daniel Jones. But it was really just hitting
- 33:44Speaker 1: Tyler Warren, hitting downs, hitting his peers. He was just
- 33:48Speaker 1: moving the ball, converting third down, and the defense was
- 33:51Speaker 1: playing well, and then the proverbial bleep hit the fan
- 33:54Speaker 1: for them with all the injuries.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Well, and this is what happens when you don't have
- 33:59Speaker 2: a good backup quarterback. Richardson wasn't ready that he fell
- 34:04Speaker 2: out of favor, and you know, they tried to trade
- 34:07Speaker 2: him this year. Nobody wanted him, and he's the number
- 34:10Speaker 2: two quarterback now. They're expected Daniel Jones to be ready
- 34:14Speaker 2: for the start of the regular season, but who knows
- 34:16Speaker 2: what he'll kind of work he'll get in August or
- 34:17Speaker 2: in training camp. Right, because he was a dual threat
- 34:20Speaker 2: quarterback that straight line speed, good arm, wasn't turning it over.
- 34:26Speaker 2: They were getting played Alec nine round Pierce. This is
- 34:29Speaker 2: what I call Alec Pierce because he is nothing else
- 34:31Speaker 2: in none. Rowdy's phenomenal, great at it. He's a great
- 34:34Speaker 2: deep threat catching the football and got paid like it,
- 34:38Speaker 2: got an unbelievable contract, unbelievable contract for guys not really
- 34:41Speaker 2: well rounded. Right, and they traded Michael Pittman and remember
- 34:47Speaker 2: they traded uh A d Mitchell. They trade for Sauce Gardner,
- 34:53Speaker 2: so they're not like Josh Jowonnes is a fine slot receiver.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Caleb's brother, but he's not the biggest guy in the world.
- 34:59Speaker 2: A lot of injury. Yep, They're they're gonna be heavy,
- 35:03Speaker 2: super heavy, twelve personal Tyler Warren, Moley Cox Malory. Yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 2: they're already telling you what they are. They don't even
- 35:11Speaker 2: have three action duelings like a four. Right, your guy
- 35:14Speaker 2: like Quon Treadwell still round. They're if they're a heavy
- 35:17Speaker 2: twelve personnel team, that that's fine. Eagles can handle that.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Uh.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Offense is gonna go through Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren, and
- 35:25Speaker 2: Alec Pierce. That's it. I mean, this to me is
- 35:27Speaker 2: not a hard team to figure out.
- 35:29Speaker 1: No, you're right, They're very simple with what they're gonna do.
- 35:32Speaker 1: This will be a big year also for for the
- 35:35Speaker 1: coach obviously, uh stiking and then some people surprising and
- 35:39Speaker 1: the GM. Yeah, they really have to play. They're not
- 35:41Speaker 1: deep adam, as you're mentioning. Offensively, they have to stay healthy.
- 35:44Speaker 1: They have talent, they have a good old line h Yeah,
- 35:47Speaker 1: but they are really thinnert receiver. They got him. They
- 35:51Speaker 1: got to make a move there to be honestly. Before
- 35:53Speaker 1: before the.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Start, they brought in Nick Westbrook a keen as a four. Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 2: He's just a possessive. It's going to go for It's
- 36:02Speaker 2: gonna go for JT. Jonathan Taylor, who's been great, no doubt.
- 36:06Speaker 2: He's been able to overcome all the injuries. Your guy Tyler,
- 36:09Speaker 2: Warren and Pierce. But Peerce does not command the football,
- 36:12Speaker 2: You're not. He doesn't. He's not a high past target guy. Right.
- 36:15Speaker 2: They didn't replace Pittman like that? Where's the I don't
- 36:18Speaker 2: get it. This is Chris Chris uh Ballader has been
- 36:22Speaker 2: very average as a GM, but it shows it. And
- 36:25Speaker 2: now you don't have a really good backup if Jones
- 36:29Speaker 2: doesn't look good or regresses, because again it's once he's
- 36:34Speaker 2: going to be ready. Riley Leonard's just a guy, Like
- 36:37Speaker 2: why don't.
- 36:38Speaker 1: They even have a better number two quarterback?
- 36:40Speaker 2: They should, That's what I'm saying. They know they should
- 36:43Speaker 2: have brought it soone to compete against Richardson.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, is Riley Leonard the guy would be
- 36:47Speaker 1: because they want Richards traded?
- 36:51Speaker 2: You know, they try to trade richards is what they
- 36:52Speaker 2: try to do, you know, but he wants out of
- 36:55Speaker 2: there too. Well. And here's another thing. They don't have
- 36:58Speaker 2: a great backup running back. Uh huh that's a problem
- 37:01Speaker 2: You've You've talked a lot about on these shows about
- 37:03Speaker 2: the death because you always want to look at death,
- 37:05Speaker 2: correct because and this is another problem that they have. Yeah,
- 37:09Speaker 2: their bye is is I think in week fourteen. If
- 37:12Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken, I mean's double check, I'm sorry week thirteen. Okay, Yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 2: now they're off before they play the Eagles in Philly.
- 37:20Speaker 2: That's a short flight, very short flight. It's less it's
- 37:24Speaker 2: around ninety minutes. But mm hmm, that's man. They're not
- 37:28Speaker 2: off into week thirteen, so that that's that's a long
- 37:31Speaker 2: it's a long time to play. Yep. They don't stare
- 37:34Speaker 2: very They're a very average team to me, okay, and
- 37:37Speaker 2: we'll get to the defense of the second. I wouldn't
- 37:39Speaker 2: be worried about their offensive.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they're I would call them as top heavy because
- 37:42Speaker 1: you know, as long as Jones comes back, all right,
- 37:45Speaker 1: and Jonathan Taylor is one of the best, and their
- 37:46Speaker 1: offensive line is good, and their receivers downs and peers
- 37:49Speaker 1: can move the change, They're they're good. But like they
- 37:51Speaker 1: literally have no margin for error. I would say that that, yeah,
- 37:56Speaker 1: they're offensive game, yeah, yeah, real quick.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Their offensive line, but are right It's okay. He's come
- 38:01Speaker 2: a long way, right, got off the Rocky Star with him,
- 38:03Speaker 2: but he would wind up being their left tackle. Bordoline's
- 38:08Speaker 2: back is their center. Ryan Kelly's long gone. And then obviously, yeah,
- 38:15Speaker 2: he said, Calvis is okay, They've got an okay, and
- 38:18Speaker 2: I guess it's gonna be I assume it's gonna be
- 38:20Speaker 2: Jailen Travis, but I don't know that for sure yet,
- 38:23Speaker 2: So we'll we'll see what the right tackle. This is
- 38:25Speaker 2: another offensive line Eagles will have, the Eagles will have,
- 38:29Speaker 2: they'll eat in this game. They'll be okay.
- 38:30Speaker 1: And again, yeah, I mean this, Jonathan Taylor. Can Jonathan
- 38:34Speaker 1: Taylor be great?
- 38:35Speaker 2: Can run against them? And again you're gonna see a
- 38:37Speaker 2: lot of twelve personnel with Warren and Molei Cox. Yeah,
- 38:40Speaker 2: that's why he's there so he can block, right, It's wow.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Since twenty seventeen, Cox, Wow, this is your name for him?
- 38:47Speaker 1: Hey man, you're ten for my boy, Laclan Treadwell. Everybody
- 38:50Speaker 1: keeps joking that I that long with him, but ten
- 38:53Speaker 1: years in this league.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Yeah, actually, technically this will be season eleven, though he's
- 39:02Speaker 2: twenty sixteen. If you count both, you have to count
- 39:04Speaker 2: that season. Yeah, that's unbelievable.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Very much, so very very much.
- 39:10Speaker 2: You know, Rick Spielman told us, you remember who drafted him.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I know he treadwell, was either twenty or twenty one
- 39:15Speaker 2: when they drafted him. And you know, he never really
- 39:17Speaker 2: ran really well. He was a runner for the catch,
- 39:19Speaker 2: physical guy, he just never got it. But yeah, I
- 39:22Speaker 2: give the guy credit. He's still good for him that
- 39:24Speaker 2: he's still getting a Paytriock. That's good for him for
- 39:26Speaker 2: all that he's been for to continue to play. That's
- 39:28Speaker 2: a cool story for sure.
- 39:30Speaker 1: All Right, on defense, defense are pretty good. But again
- 39:34Speaker 1: I just I question the depth that they have. But
- 39:38Speaker 1: they're pretty good. They've got some good pass rushers up front.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You know, I've always been a big fan of arden Key,
- 39:43Speaker 1: so when I see him on a team, I always.
- 39:45Speaker 2: All he's been on.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, he's always wanted and he always winds up
- 39:49Speaker 1: playing a pretty big role for whoever he's with.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, defarest Buckner and his neck injury is the one
- 39:56Speaker 2: that's a concern.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 39:57Speaker 2: See when he see if I can find out what
- 39:59Speaker 2: he's going to be bad.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Same thing with Latsu, who's been healthy, but he also
- 40:02Speaker 1: came out of college with with some neck concerns.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah, the stenosis issue, yeah concern yeah. Yeah. So Buckner
- 40:11Speaker 2: is supposed that he's hoping you're ready for training camp,
- 40:13Speaker 2: started training camp. So he's coming back from major neck injury.
- 40:17Speaker 2: That's a concern. Uh, they've we look at the front, Oh,
- 40:22Speaker 2: big row, Grover Stewart's really good run stopper. He's another
- 40:25Speaker 2: older player. Yeah, he's another guy ten years in. And
- 40:29Speaker 2: then you mentioned a Lattu, the edge rusher, no doubt,
- 40:34Speaker 2: arden Key who was sort of a stand up pass rush,
- 40:37Speaker 2: cold play, a variety of schemes, and under lu Ana
- 40:40Speaker 2: Romo they run a forty three front. They don't have
- 40:42Speaker 2: enough pass rushers. Michael is a power in Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:46Speaker 2: they don't have enough pass rushers to make.
- 40:47Speaker 1: I mean Latu is a very good rusher. Buckner can
- 40:50Speaker 1: give you some rush. Key everybody again, twitchy guy.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Well the problem is again Bucker's coming up a
- 40:57Speaker 2: major injury. We don't know if he'll be the same. Right,
- 41:00Speaker 2: there's a reason why this guy keeps moving on. This
- 41:02Speaker 2: is crazy how much this is really if you look
- 41:05Speaker 2: at it, right, this is your this is his fifth
- 41:08Speaker 2: team YEP in six years. Why does he keep moving on.
- 41:12Speaker 1: That's a great question. I do not know.
- 41:15Speaker 2: This is something that teams clearly are not They're not
- 41:17Speaker 2: happy with lots. Who's their guy, right, Michael clements in
- 41:21Speaker 2: power rusher, not a great power rusher, not a great
- 41:23Speaker 2: passers Okay, Yeah, but they have size up front with
- 41:26Speaker 2: Buckner and Stewart, no doubt. Stuart's a really a very
- 41:28Speaker 2: unerrated run run defender. Yep, they're not graded. Inside backer CJ.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Allen will start right away their second round. King David
- 41:36Speaker 2: Gaylor was who's was cut by the Cardinals, by the way, Hm, hm,
- 41:41Speaker 2: that's concerning sure. And then yeah, and then you got
- 41:45Speaker 2: now South Gardner. You know he had that he had
- 41:46Speaker 2: the calf problems. After the trade, he's he's back now
- 41:50Speaker 2: full time in the off season. Tavarious words back in.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Society's going to keep playing. Mkay bt, mkay. Blackman's there,
- 41:57Speaker 2: Kim Taylor Brett another ex Bengal. That's kind of weird
- 42:00Speaker 2: with King Davis Gaither. And remember they they they cut
- 42:07Speaker 2: their their their their nickel defender. Yeah, so it's it's
- 42:13Speaker 2: a team that's going to Kenny Morris Scott. So what
- 42:16Speaker 2: you see is a defense it's got some talent, but
- 42:19Speaker 2: they have rush. No, he go's clearly a favorite. I'd
- 42:22Speaker 2: have him as a seven point favorite in this game.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm curious to see how the Colt
- 42:26Speaker 1: season goes because eight when they were eight no or
- 42:29Speaker 1: eight and one, I mean, they were just so reliant
- 42:33Speaker 1: on incredible on their run game, which was great and
- 42:36Speaker 1: they will be again, and and Daniel Jones was sort
- 42:38Speaker 1: of playing above what we've ever seen Daniel Jones play.
- 42:42Speaker 1: And it almost is like those two guys were kind
- 42:45Speaker 1: of carrying a weak roster by themselves, and then when
- 42:48Speaker 1: the injury settled in and the fatigue and then it
- 42:50Speaker 1: just totally changed. I'd be shocked if they were eight
- 42:54Speaker 1: and no again, or if they were I mean, they
- 42:56Speaker 1: have enough talent to be contenders, but they their margin
- 42:59Speaker 1: of error with injury or a couple of bad games
- 43:02Speaker 1: from a QB or the running back just doesn't have
- 43:05Speaker 1: the lanes and then they're in trouble. That's what it
- 43:07Speaker 1: would see say.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say the issue is you've got the
- 43:12Speaker 2: forest bucket to come off of major surgery, okay, And
- 43:15Speaker 2: Daniel Jones come off major surgery Achilles, he may never
- 43:18Speaker 2: be the same okay, and you don't have a good
- 43:21Speaker 2: backup quarterback. Guy's not really he's done very little. They had,
- 43:26Speaker 2: they had a bench. That's why Daniel Jones is there.
- 43:28Speaker 2: They didn't trust him to mature. You know, here's the
- 43:31Speaker 2: one that the story. If you don't folks look it
- 43:33Speaker 2: up when he could when he asked out of the game.
- 43:36Speaker 2: There's been a lot of reporting on it locally and nationally,
- 43:40Speaker 2: and you can't do that. He just did. He was
- 43:43Speaker 2: too young to understand that. You can't do it even
- 43:44Speaker 2: if you're hurt, if you're out of break, whatever the
- 43:47Speaker 2: case may be, you could you could wait till the
- 43:51Speaker 2: defenses on the field to get yourself together. And and
- 43:54Speaker 2: he just never could recover from that. Yeah, and it
- 43:57Speaker 2: is what it is. But they have to they're to me,
- 43:58Speaker 2: they're five hundred team to fight with all the questions
- 44:01Speaker 2: that they're.
- 44:01Speaker 1: No better than right, they need like to go their
- 44:04Speaker 1: way to be better than that, I would think.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I mean, you could rely on JT all you want,
- 44:09Speaker 2: and that's great. He was awesome. He's he's phenomenal and
- 44:12Speaker 2: he's really going the past game yep. But they just
- 44:15Speaker 2: don't have enough receiver and the fact that they I
- 44:17Speaker 2: know Pittman's a good player, but they did nothing to
- 44:20Speaker 2: replace him. To pay Peers his contract is hideous. I
- 44:25Speaker 2: mean again, give the agent credit and good for Peers. Yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 2: I mean twenty five per year. Are you out of
- 44:33Speaker 2: your mind? Twenty millions?
- 44:34Speaker 1: What they got Christian Kirk.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Yeah. And by the way, yeah, it's got to your structure.
- 44:40Speaker 2: But it's got an advanced guarantee. If he's on the roster,
- 44:42Speaker 2: which he will be in March of twenty seven, He's
- 44:51Speaker 2: got fourteen million of twenty seven million cash guaranteed. It
- 44:55Speaker 2: comes fully guaranteed in your threat. That's enough that no
- 44:57Speaker 2: matter how ways play, you're not going to cut him.
- 45:00Speaker 2: That's just who like I understand like there were other
- 45:03Speaker 2: teams involved, and Ballard like wants to keep the guys
- 45:06Speaker 2: you got, right, but you gotta understand what a guy is.
- 45:09Speaker 1: And what he's not. I'm with you. I just I
- 45:13Speaker 1: never even love by the way, I never even loved
- 45:14Speaker 1: the I'm on record for this people who go back
- 45:16Speaker 1: and listen to my weekly NFL. I hated the sauce
- 45:19Speaker 1: gardner for them. I thought it was a terrible way
- 45:22Speaker 1: too much.
- 45:22Speaker 2: It was seeing it's giving way too much for a
- 45:23Speaker 2: quarter That for quarterback, not a quarterback, right right. Ballard's
- 45:28Speaker 2: desperate man now now backfiring.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I with no first round pick this year and none
- 45:32Speaker 1: next year. I mean, their roster is just not that
- 45:34Speaker 1: good to me. That could be wrong, but.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Look, I understand the Josh mcgannal situation, which was bizarre
- 45:39Speaker 2: to be Uh, he's been very average as at GM.
- 45:43Speaker 2: He's just okay. Yeah, and we'll see how Jim Mercedes's children, uh,
- 45:48Speaker 2: Carly and her family handles Ballard and Shane Stek. Obviously,
- 45:53Speaker 2: this is as you said earlier, you're right, this year
- 45:56Speaker 2: is this is it for those guys with Stecken and Ballard.
- 45:58Speaker 2: They got to get they got it. They they don't
- 46:00Speaker 2: make the playoffs, and how the hell could you bring
- 46:01Speaker 2: them back?
- 46:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they're on the clock. All right, good stuff. That's
- 46:07Speaker 1: part three. In our next episode, we'll wrap up the
- 46:09Speaker 1: last three opponents that we haven't done yet, and that'll
- 46:12Speaker 1: be our full schedule analysis series, and that'll lead us
- 46:15Speaker 1: right up into Eagles OTAs which start this week. That's
- 46:19Speaker 1: gonna do it for this episode of Inside the Birds,
- 46:21Speaker 1: the leading podcast and the Eagles Intel, And as always,
- 46:24Speaker 1: we thank you for flying with us inside the Birds.
