- 1:57love it, indeed, and Fred Pursinger is the voice of high school sports
- 2:00in West Virginia. He's gonna join us in the second segment of the high
- 2:04school football season actually got started last night with the game that was broadcast live
- 2:07on the Metro News Channel and also on eighteen T Sports Nets, and we're
- 2:12gonna talk to you Fred a little bit about that game. It really gets
- 2:15going though in the Canall Valley tonight and certainly tomorrow night. Fred will give
- 2:17us a little preview of what to expect from high school football. Former Mayor
- 2:21Danny Jones is going to stop by the studio as well. The GOP debate
- 2:25was last night, and I want to get to Danny's take on that,
- 2:29but I won't talk a little Regatta right now. Tim Brady with the Charleston
- 2:32CVB, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, joins us. Now, Tim,
- 2:36good morning, how are you. Good morning, Dave. Great to be
- 2:38here. I have to. I had to ask you this something I want
- 2:42to ask you every time that you've been on the show. You know you
- 2:45did your time in radio, but you escaped. Do you do you ever
- 2:51missdoing radio? I know it says nothing to do with what we're gonna talk
- 2:53about, because I'm gonna tell you I'm not second up to the gast Year,
- 2:54but you are probably one of the best natural voices for radio that I've
- 2:58ever heard. I wish I had that I don't, But do you ever
- 3:01you ever miss your radio days, you know, I will tell you that
- 3:05there are times when I do. And and one of those times was about
- 3:08two minutes ago when you started talking about bringing Fred in in the second block
- 3:14to preview high school football. Uh, you know, pre CBB days.
- 3:19I hosted a show very similar to this in the Clarksburg market and Fred was
- 3:24always coming up through Clarksburg Bridgeport on Friday mornings to do Metro News Game Night
- 3:30on Fridays in Morgantown, and he would stop in Clarksburg and we would do
- 3:35half an hour on Friday mornings previewing that week's high school football uh schedule,
- 3:40and uh, you know that's the stuff that I miss. I miss hanging
- 3:45out in a studio with Fred Pursinger, I miss, you know. Uh
- 3:49you know. One of my best friends is Travis Jones, who does Bridgeport
- 3:53High School MC sports up in the Clarksburg market. He and I did Bridgeport
- 3:58football for about fifteen years. To get other on Friday nights in the fall,
- 4:01I start to get a little bit of an itch and and it's it's
- 4:04odd to not be in a press box somewhere talking about popcorn. That's that's
- 4:12the stuff I miss. You know what I don't miss is getting up at
- 4:14fourth thirty to have drive time news. Ready for get that that, I
- 4:16don't miss that. Hey, before we talk with God, it just real
- 4:19quick. I do think it would be appropriate if we just mentioned this morning,
- 4:24UH, rest in peace to WWE Hall of Fame or Terry Funk,
- 4:28legend, hardcore legend, King of the Death Match, a career that spanned
- 4:32continents and decades and passed away yesterday. So I wanted to say rest in
- 4:39peace to Terry Funk this morning, absolutely because I know you're a wrestling I'm
- 4:43an old old school wrestling. I quit. I quit watching about the early
- 4:46nineties. Well there's nothing more old school. You're right about that. Let's
- 4:50talk with God and numbers. They were revealed during a press conference City Center.
- 4:54It's like plods the last week. In case anyone may have missed them,
- 4:57let's kind of take it from the top worker way down. Overall the
- 5:00numbers for regats so UH an estimate of two hundred and twenty thousand attendees over
- 5:05the course of the five days. Twenty percent of those were visitors from beyond
- 5:11a fifty mile radius. And we define a visitor as someone who comes from
- 5:15fifty miles away or beyond and spends at least two hours in the city.
- 5:18UH. And of those folks, sixty five percent of our visitors UH stayed
- 5:23overnight. UH. Twenty percent of those visitors were from out of state.
- 5:26A total economic impact of thirty seven point two million dollars at an event that
- 5:30supported seven thousand, nine hundred and forty eight jobs in the metro valley.
- 5:34So all right, I mean, it's a it's a it's a big deal
- 5:36over the course of five days, and tim you know, you're in the
- 5:41economic projection business. At some point, you know, UH, at some
- 5:45at least a portion of your day sitting back saying, Okay, this is
- 5:47what we did. This is what we expect to do in the future.
- 5:51But you know, when the idea was first discussed about bringing the regatta back,
- 5:57did you have any idea that would be this being I had no frame
- 6:00of reference because I didn't live in Charleston during the first and I never experienced
- 6:06it. I never attended a regatta. Of course, I'd heard stories over
- 6:10the years about the massive crowds and and UH and the event itself, but
- 6:16I had no frame of reference. Personally. So I went into that first
- 6:20year just not knowing what to expect. I think we have uh are you
- 6:28okay, you're taking a phone call? Sure? Okay, all right,
- 6:30I think we have a phone call for you. You're a popular guy.
- 6:33You got to you got if you got Chris there? What force Chris you're
- 6:36on with Tim Brady? Go ahead? Morning sale was Yeah, it's the
- 6:42big bad jackal Okay, I wanted to make a statement about uh former police
- 6:50chief. Okay, okay, can can we wait? We're not we're talking
- 6:55about regatta right now. What I want to talk about Regatta too. Okay,
- 7:00let's just keep it on regatta right now. Then maybe because I think
- 7:01Danny Jones is gonna talk about that a little bit later on, maybe you
- 7:04can call back when Danny's on. How's that? Oh? Two calls in
- 7:09one day? To keep this one to Tim on regatta and the regatta numbers,
- 7:15and then he can call back dartor Danny later. Go ahead. I
- 7:17am super glad that Mayor Goodwin brought the Regatta back to Charleston. Regatta used
- 7:27to be the best party in America, and it feels like we got it
- 7:32back these past couple of years and it makes Charleston feel whole again. And
- 7:42you know that's I'm going to jump in and say, part of our culture
- 7:46is Regatta. Yeah, that's one of the things that I dave when we
- 7:48talk about Regatta and we talk about economic impact, and it's certainly enormous.
- 7:53The other thing that I like to talk about when we're talking about Regatta in
- 7:57the media is is the social impact, the community impact of Regatta, because
- 8:03just like this guy was saying, it gives people a sense of community,
- 8:09a sense of place, a sense of pride and where they live. And
- 8:11one of the things that we look at at the Convention and Visitors Bureau,
- 8:13we study why people come to Charleston, and the number one reason that people
- 8:18visit Charleston, West Virginia is to visit friends and family. So what's more
- 8:22impactful than creating an event that not only drives all of this economic impact,
- 8:26but also generates this real sense of community pride and makes people remember why they
- 8:33love living in the city where they do. Because when people are happy where
- 8:35they live, they're more apt to invite their friends and family. So really,
- 8:39for us, we look at Regatta as this sort of generating engine that,
- 8:43yes, It generates a lot of economic impact, but it generates a
- 8:46lot of sense of place, a sense of pride, and then that encourages
- 8:48people to invite more friends and family to come, so it drives our tourism
- 8:52up overall throughout the course of a year. So that you know that community
- 8:56impact to us is significant as well. You've got a really smart guy on
- 9:01the radio with you today. Which one are you talking to? You've got
- 9:05a really smart guy on the radio with you today. I'm not talking about
- 9:11myself for one. I appreciate that. I want to throw out a couple
- 9:15of other things Dave too, that we found interesting. You know, we
- 9:18study. Please add to what you said, sir, Oh sure, go
- 9:20ahead. I didn't realize you were still on the line. Go ahead.
- 9:24I love Regatta. I grew up with Regatta. I grew up with Regatta
- 9:30and the bad beer fights. I grew up with Regatta and Willie Nelson on
- 9:35the stage. Regatta is what makes West Virginia, Charleston, West Virginia especially
- 9:43special. We need to keep celebrating Regatta. We need to keep bringing back
- 9:50the paddle boats. We need to dig deeper into our roots because it's who
- 9:56we are and what we are and that's what makes us feel good. All
- 10:03right, I appreciate I appreciate your phone. I think that's great. And
- 10:07that's it, right, it's community pride. It's again, it's it's what
- 10:09it's all about for us. Yes, it's economics, but it's also you
- 10:13know, generating that that sense of place. One of the things I thought
- 10:16that was really interesting what you said, and and and what was revealed last
- 10:20week when the numbers came out was again the number of people from out of
- 10:24the area that came to Charleston. I mean that was that totally blew me
- 10:30away that you had the number of people that came from DC. Yeah,
- 10:33we look at those origin markets and and the state of West Virginia is always
- 10:37our number one tourism market for Charleston. So the Charleston Huntington metro area that
- 10:41you know, draw fifty mile radius around Charleston and you know close in that
- 10:46was the number one origin market for our visitors. Number two was DC.
- 10:50Three was Pittsburgh. And that DC market is super significant to us because we
- 10:54know through our own research that DC visitors spend about forty four percent more than
- 11:00other visitors. They have more disposable income. So when those folks come,
- 11:03they're spending more money. So it was really great to see DC show up
- 11:05so high in in city of origin for region. What kind of marketing did
- 11:09you do in those years to get those people because they have to find out
- 11:11about it, Someway. Yeah, so we we did a lot of digital
- 11:13advertising in different markets. You know, we identify what our drive markets are.
- 11:18We research twelve months a year. We know on a regular basis where
- 11:22our visitors are coming from, so we employ a fish where the fish are
- 11:26kind of philosophy. If we know that we're getting people from DC, Pittsburgh,
- 11:30Cincinnati, Cleveland, those places, that's where we spend money with digital
- 11:33advertising to promote REGATTA. We do a lot of social digital, a lot
- 11:39of you know, Google based, place based advertising. You know, we
- 11:43did a little bit of print through some Retta or some stern Wheel specific publications.
- 11:50But yeah, I mean, we know where our origin markets are that
- 11:54we have success, and we go after more of those people. What do
- 11:56you hear from the business people in Charleston as far as the folks I'll operate
- 12:00the restaurants and things of that nature. You know, you talk to some
- 12:03of the restaurant owners and and you know they'll tell you that those are their
- 12:07busiest days of the year. And I can remember last year specifically a couple
- 12:11of local restaurant owners that that said that during Rigatta, they broke all of
- 12:15their sales records. UH, during the event. I've not really been involved
- 12:18this year with a lot of the business outreach uh. And we've not had
- 12:22a wrap up meeting yet, but when we do, I think we'll probably
- 12:26get some more of that anecdotal evidence about you know, how successful it was
- 12:31for vendors. I know it's good for the food trucks, it's good for
- 12:33the restaurants. But I haven't had a lot of specific conversations this year person
- 12:37exactly what goes and this is a text that we got here and to him,
- 12:39then we'll let you go. Somebody ask about exactly how do you determine
- 12:43the economic impact? I mean, what goes into that? So, first
- 12:46of all, it's done by people that are way smarter than me. Yeah
- 12:50I can, I can sound smart. I'm not really that smart, but
- 12:54in a nutshell, it's it's it's like this, we we get an attendance
- 12:58estimate from the from the and we will do. We'll do this for events
- 13:01throughout the city, not just forgotten. We get an attendance estimate for the
- 13:05free events. For ticket at events, it's easy, you know how many
- 13:07people showed up. But for the free events, we'll get an attendance estimate
- 13:09and then we put that number along with some other ancillary figures like food and
- 13:15beverage sales, merchandise sales, carnival ticket sales, things like that, all
- 13:20go into a web based calculator that's provided by Destinations International, which is an
- 13:26internationally recognized tourism research firm. I just plugged the numbers into their calculator and
- 13:33it spits the numbers back out at me. And as far as the estimates
- 13:37on visitors and the percentage of attendees that were visitors, we work with another
- 13:43national company that does third party cell phone and credit card data research, and
- 13:48so they draw some lines around your area and they study the people that are
- 13:54using their devices in that area at the time, so they can come up
- 13:58with some estimates on where those visitors are coming from and how many of the
- 14:03total attendees were from outside of a fifty mile radis. So we just basically
- 14:05take all of that put it into a web based program through a recognized tourism
- 14:11research firm and it gives you the number. So where does it go from
- 14:15here? If, in your opinion, where gottam there's nowhere to go but
- 14:18up right? I mean I think that I think that the first couple of
- 14:22years, just as someone who's watched it and I've not been involved on the
- 14:26logistics side, but I think you look, you step back, and you
- 14:28look, and you say, the first couple of years are always let's figure
- 14:31out what we're doing. And I think we're in a place now where we
- 14:35can really make this thing even better because we're working the kinks out and we're
- 14:41working the bugs out as we go, both from a marketing standpoint where all
- 14:45of this research is valuable to us. We'll spend more money in DC in
- 14:48Pittsburgh next year and bring more of those folks in. And on the logistics
- 14:52side, I know the folks that are working on that side, they're already
- 14:56making notes about ways to make next year better. So we take what we
- 14:58do on marketing side and what the logistics folks do that run the event.
- 15:03We put that all together, and I think this guy's the limit. Dave
- 15:05All right, Well, well, we'll be watching because this is a busy
- 15:09time. I mean, you think, okay, Regatta's over show. Now,
- 15:11that's not the way it works. And I feel that specifically because we've
- 15:16got a big event coming up in a couple of weeks and I'd love to
- 15:18come back Dave and talk to you about it in more detail. But September
- 15:22fifth through tenth, we're hosting the USA Men's Olympic Volleyball. The men's national
- 15:26volleyball team will be in Charleston playing seven other countries in a men's international volleyball
- 15:33tournament. It's the last time the men's national team will play in the United
- 15:37States before the Paris Olympics in twenty twenty four. It's called the Norsica Men's
- 15:43Championships and it's going to be incredibly high level men's volleyball and they'll be in
- 15:50Charleston for five days the first week of September. Yeah. So yeah,
- 15:54no, no, Batt, Yeah, I mean, well, yeah,
- 15:56I didn't think about because Regatta is not all and I build the little bit
- 16:00about cvbs. I'm involved with one of Puttnham County and I can tell you
- 16:03you it's it's I'm working on this event while I'm also looking at this event.
- 16:07I'm looking at this event. So no time to rest on your luny
- 16:10of events between now and recta, because that's just that's just another I mean,
- 16:12it's it's a big event, but for your purpose in your office,
- 16:15it's just another event. I made one more things, one more thing you
- 16:18got to do, Tam. It's always pleasure. I've on the show man.

- 19:18I want to miss a chance to catch Lana del Ray at the College of
- 19:22Convention Center, brought to you by Metro News Hotline. Tex says, I
- 19:25love that Regatta is back. The only thing I would like to see happen
- 19:27would be to put it back on the original Labor Day like it was for
- 19:30decades. Doing that, to bring back the grand feature parade with our school
- 19:33bands, go back to starting school after Labor Day. Well, Regatta,
- 19:37folks can't do anything about school starting, and that's the whole reason why it
- 19:41was moved was because school and high school football and everything you know, it
- 19:44starts much earlier than what it used to. Tex says, David baffles me
- 19:48how these city officials taut the successes other parties but disgustingly duck dodge and dive
- 19:53when it comes to accountability for bat acts and corrupt cops. Community pride is
- 19:57not based on your ability to have a part. West Virginia's will always party
- 20:02through that. We deserve accountability and truth. According to a text, this
- 20:07guy always tell us the truth, Fred Persinger, how are you, man,
- 20:10I'm well head to three d's. Yes, duck dodge and died.
- 20:15Indeed, indeed, it is high school football season is here at officially Fred
- 20:18started last night. Speaking of starting early, started last night. We'll continue
- 20:22for most team tonight. Certainly tomorrow night we'll have coverage of the war and
- 20:26thirty four from Winfield and a hurricane tonight. Uh, it's that time again,
- 20:33man, it is. Love it, love it, love it.
- 20:34We've got a total of fifty seven games this weekend. One played last night.
- 20:40We'll have a total of five tonight, fifty on Friday night, and
- 20:47one on Saturday, Saturday afternoon and night. Yeah. Some of the games
- 20:49I understand because of the heats were being pushed ahead to like eight o'clock or
- 20:53something. Yeah, and they say that extra thirty minutes or an hour if
- 20:56you're kick at seven, does kick at eight really makes a difference? And
- 21:00you know, the sun probably gets below the horizon, so it doesn't make
- 21:03a difference. But I talked with Billy Seals last night, head coach for
- 21:07Huntington, on our high School sports Line debut show for the season and presented
- 21:11by Parmar Stores by the way, and if there, I think he is
- 21:17an awful lot. Like all the coaches in the state, they know what
- 21:21they need to do to keep their kids hydrated, and they practice later in
- 21:26the evening then they really want to. He's practicing this week six thirty to
- 21:30eight thirty only because it's much cooler than right, you know, which means
- 21:33he gets to school. He told me he got to school at about six
- 21:37o'clock in the morning and he gets home at ten o'clock at night. But
- 21:40the safety of the kids is very important. Absolutely. How many years have
- 21:44you been covering high school football in the Mountain State? Frame at a little
- 21:49fifty one, fifty two, fifty one or fifty two, Yeah, something
- 21:52like that. Wow, nineteen seventy one. Yeah, come to think that's
- 21:57a long time, isn't it? Just it just hits you all. Yeah,
- 22:02Oh my goodness, it's hard to believe. And we were talking last
- 22:03night. Dave quelind as my co host along with Joe Braccalo on Wednesday Night
- 22:07show, and then Dave and I do Game Night coming up tomorrow night.
- 22:11Twenty second season starts tomorrow night. And throughout those years, those first twenty
- 22:15one years, I've missed one show. Dave Jeckelin's missed two. He missed
- 22:22he missed one show. Sever he missed one show twenty one years ago when
- 22:26his daughter was being born. Okay, I said, go ahead, let's
- 22:27a pass, go to the hospital, and then his wife was really sick
- 22:30in the hospital. One other time he took the night up. That's it
- 22:33hard to believe. You have the same two guys hosting the show for twenty
- 22:37one, which we now twenty two years, and let alone the fact I've
- 22:41missed one, he's missed two. That's it. That's It's amazing, it
- 22:44doesn't happen. So do you I may have asked you this when we did
- 22:48the show with Speedy Babbins once before, but do you remember your first high
- 22:51school football game that you did? I do? Okay, I do?
- 22:52And it was Beckley, Woodrow Wilson and Charleston Catholic. Here are there here
- 22:57meaning Charleston Beckley, old van meter Stadium, old van meter steam and now
- 23:03they have a new van meter steam as old van meter stadm and uh oh
- 23:06yeah remember it? Remember well the one Charleston Catholic six nothing okay, not
- 23:11good? Kept Beckley the other playoffs? Oh really I did. That's when
- 23:14they were taking four teams, not sixteen. Yeah yeah you remember that?
- 23:18Oh yeah, oh yeah, exactly right. So what do we expect from
- 23:21the upcoming season? You know? Uh, talked with a lot of coaches
- 23:25getting ready for tomorrow night again Billy Seals last night was our guest John Lilly,
- 23:30who is the coach of Independence they wanted in double A last year,
- 23:33and talk with Chris Beck who is the head coachev Williamstown. All three feel
- 23:37really good about this year. In fact, Billy Seals told me at the
- 23:41start of last season, he said, you know, I think we'll be
- 23:42decent this year, but next year I'm going to be really really good.
- 23:47Of course, he won it all last year, lost one game first game
- 23:48of the season Spring Valley meatim twenty nine, twenty eight, and then they
- 23:52ran off thirteen more. He thought that this year was better than last year.
- 23:56I can't wait. He's got to replace the real good quarterback in Gavin
- 24:00Locko, but he feels real good about two guys that he's going to probably
- 24:03alternate back and forth. One's a runner, one's a passer. He's got
- 24:07the backfield back. He's got a lot of good stuff up front. Some
- 24:10big kids as always at Huntington High. So I think Huntington will be good
- 24:14in Triple A. But with that set, I think there's a lot of
- 24:17good teams across the state. The three reigning state champs, they're all going
- 24:21to be good, but they're gonna have some competition. I think I think
- 24:23he's gonna be a great year for high school football. And we started last
- 24:26night. Yeah, first time, check this out. Dodgress County gets beat
- 24:30thirty four to fourteen by Saint Mary's. Saint Mary's is now one eleven in
- 24:34a row in that series. Okay, first time since August twenty fifth,
- 24:38two thousand and seventeen, Dodgers County's got a losing record. Really, Yes,
- 24:45there's go and one August twenty fifth, twenty seventeen, they got beat
- 24:48by the Hawks of South Harrison, and that's ever since then, they've always
- 24:52started out with a win. They've always had a winning season, always always
- 24:56had a winning record until last night till I had Saint Mary's like that,
- 25:00Really, what about our Canal Valley teams? What do you expect him from?
- 25:02Somebody? There's all this hooplaw about Herbert Hoover because of the Zoo Stadium.
- 25:07Rightly so and the facilities and everything. But as when I had to
- 25:10coach Fields on the show last week, he so we at the end of
- 25:11the day, this is all nice, but we still got to play.
- 25:14Yeah, you know, so so so so. Talk about Hoover or GW
- 25:18or South Charleston, any of these other teams in the in the area.
- 25:21What do you think? I think there's a great game tonight on fifty eight
- 25:25WCHS in Hurricane and Winfield. Hurricane is going to be very good, yes,
- 25:30the very very Donnie Mays has got a great ball club. But Winfield
- 25:33is going to be very good in the Double A ranks. So I fully
- 25:37expect Hurricane to win because they usually do. But it could be a really,
- 25:41really good football game. I think also George Washington is going to be
- 25:47good. Definitely. They open up against Cable Midland. That's another game.
- 25:52That's a game that's been moved at eight o'clock kick by the way, on
- 25:55tomorrow night. But I think those two teams jump out at you as far
- 26:00as in the valley area, if you will, around the state again,
- 26:04I think we're gonna have some great, great football first game of the season.
- 26:08You know, it's you don't put a lot. Who would have thought
- 26:11if Honeyton gets beat last night? All right, Honeyton got beat last year
- 26:15first game of the season. You probably wouldn't have picked him to go ahead
- 26:18and win the state championship, but they did so game one. Who knows.
- 26:22You can see some upsets if you will. We'll see how it goes
- 26:26on Friday night. High school football is one of those really interesting things,
- 26:29uh, one of the probably the most interesting support to me, because you
- 26:33start out in the heat of summer, right you know, at the end
- 26:34of August, and then when you end up, whether it's it's the final
- 26:40game of the regular season or in the playoffs or and Wheelian Island Stadium,
- 26:42you end up sometimes in snow. And it's one of the only sports you
- 26:45know that the runs a gamut as far as weather goes, it's a it's
- 26:49amazing you're outside, and it's it's what's great Friday night lights that means something.
- 26:55It really doesn't now a lot of these teams. Beckley comes to mind.
- 26:57Last year they had light show installed, much like I don't know if
- 27:02you've ever seen it at West Virginia State University where they have the lights.
- 27:04Yes, yes, same things going on down high schools. Beckley has it
- 27:07now, and I mean it's just fabulous to see the team's coming out under
- 27:11that light show or at halftime with the band. It's some good stuff.
- 27:15But high school football is what it's supposed to be and that kind of brings
- 27:18communities together. You know, uh, what about all these changes with them
- 27:22with transfer roles. I certainly had to put a friend of the bad mood.
- 27:26No, Yeah, because transfer rule, and I think good kudos to
- 27:32the WVSSAC and David Price. They've already had five schools that they have had
- 27:36to put some penalties. Slap on the wrist if you will. The nightro
- 27:41got more than a slap on the wrist. Yeah, thanks pretty good,
- 27:44But I think they said at best, the transfer rule has always been in
- 27:49effect. Okay, always. The recruiting rule is not and that's where the
- 27:53coaches have been getting into trouble. I don't like it. Ask me about
- 27:57four classes in high school. I've done that before. I've done that before.
- 28:02I hate it big enough there and people out there don't know what that
- 28:06means. The transfer rule, Yeah, and hey kid, now and there's
- 28:10day you can transfer one time and go to a different school. Now if
- 28:15you transfer and you don't like it, tough, tough, tough you.
- 28:18That's it. You got one shock. That's got to be changed. Yeah,
- 28:21that has to be changed by the legislature. Your friend, it was
- 28:25changed. You had a text here for you, Fred said, do you
- 28:26think Saint Alban's will win any games this year? I hope so. I
- 28:30don't know you well, and I tell you I did Saint Alba's football with
- 28:34the other guys over there, and with all due respect to them. Scott
- 28:38Tinsley was the head coach, I followed by Nick Watts, both two quality
- 28:42guys. Question it was rough come October or November, when you know it
- 28:47was tough. I mean, I wish the best for the Red Dragons.
- 28:48I really do know what they can turn around. Texas Dave. Great to
- 28:52hear Fred on the program this morning. He is a legend. Thanks Fred.
- 28:55Oh look it's signed Fred. How'd you do that? While you were
- 28:57to that a lot delay when the new explaining you know Twitter, you couldn't

- 30:11So we got off work six in the morning, and then that afternoon we
- 30:15all met down to watch Saint Alban's beat GW fifty seven to nothing. Wow.
- 30:21Thanks, thanks, but no thanks you were you big? I mean

- 30:56that his Orioles are in first place. My dad and I boy cunt in
- 31:00Baltimore after they moved in Annapolis, and he was from there. And we're
- 31:03not about football now, Yeah, he was from he was from Baltimore.

- 34:15Right now. Let's start with the GOP debates last night. I'm sure
- 34:20you watched. I actually managed to stay awake and watch the whole thing.
- 34:22Don't stay awake. I don't late, but I watched it all. I
- 34:27didn't do the spin room afterwards one Sean came on, I packed it in.
- 34:30Well, that's normally what I do when Sean comes on anyway, So
- 34:34but anyway, go ahead, But I you look across the stage and you
- 34:39got to say who occupied the stage, the space, and who was a
- 34:45negative or positive. I don't like the vec rama swammy. When you've got
- 34:51as much time on your hands as I do, you drilled down on stuff
- 34:54right. And I saw a lot of interviews with him, and I think
- 34:59he's dangerous. I mean he and just what Nikki Hiley said last night,
- 35:01he is anti Israel. He wants to give Ukraine to the to putin.
- 35:07Not to count me out on this. Yeah, well he lost me when
- 35:09he said on day one, I'm going to pardon Trump. That's where you
- 35:13lost me. Well, the first thing, if you're there, there's actually
- 35:15some case law on that the person is supposed to be contrite and accept responsibility
- 35:22from what they've done. But would this will all be tested? So uh,
- 35:25he he doesn't impress me even a little bit. He occupied a lot
- 35:30of space, maybe a little bit of it positive for me, all of
- 35:34his native well, Chris Christy owned him a couple of times. Now let's
- 35:37let's move across the stage. Asa Hutchins is a wonderful guy. Yeah,
- 35:42he'd be a good attorney general. Yeah, he needs to move on.
- 35:45Yea. He he's just not gonna by the space. No, neither is
- 35:50the governor of North Dakota. You know, I heard a live interview with
- 35:53him this morning on the radio, not not some canned TV thing, and
- 35:58it was elongated interview. He's the most substantive candidate on the stage. I've
- 36:02read that as well. I mean, he is so good, but he's
- 36:07not going to get anywhere. All right, Well, who is in your
- 36:08opinion? Was there a winner last time? Let me ask you that.
- 36:14Well, and there are a lot of people disagree. I bet a lot
- 36:16of people out here disagree. But I can criticize the Santus, but he
- 36:24was ready. The problem with him and Dave, you're a radio guy.
- 36:30He needs to realize with the electronics, you don't need to get all excited.
- 36:36Let the let the electronics through the work for you. Because his he
- 36:40he looks like he's talking in between matches on the WWE. You know,
- 36:45you know you be there, will be there in the omnia Atlanta, you
- 36:50know, I mean, he just he thinks everything has to be it's us
- 36:53versus them, and it doesn't. What about pens Pence lasting Pence is a
- 37:00a good man. He In other words, if you go across the stage,
- 37:02who look who gained even a little traction over the over where they were
- 37:07before the debate, he would be one person. So would Nicky Haley.
- 37:13But he's not going to be nominated. Points to Nicky Haley for the Margaret
- 37:16Thatcher reference last night when what she said there and I don't remember exactly what
- 37:20it was. Basically it was something to the effect, if you want something
- 37:22said, you call. If you want something said, you call a man.
- 37:25If you want something done, you call a woman. That got a
- 37:28big pop out of the crows. You know, I like her. She.
- 37:31I don't think she's gonna win. No, I don't think so either,
- 37:34But she maybe she'd be secretary of State or something. She's she's honed
- 37:38her foreign policy chops a little bit in the United Nations, And who knows?
- 37:44I mean, is there anybody there's? Is there anybody on? I
- 37:45mean Trump is up in some polls by forty percent? Is there any Tim
- 37:50Scott? Well, you haven't mentioned Tim Scott any thoughts in Tim Scott?
- 37:52He didn't hun he did? I don't know anybody that doesn't like him.
- 37:57He's Yeah. The New York Times called him, calls him the happy Warrior.
- 38:00It's a very liberal news yes it is, and I like him.
- 38:04But if I could whisper news ere, let's say, Tim, well,
- 38:07don't just support the lady who puts you in the Senate. You know,
- 38:10your governor. So de Santus was the winner, in your opinion, in
- 38:15my opinion, in my opinion, in other words, he was better.
- 38:19Of course, the expectations were him were low because he's been getting beat up,
- 38:22basically dormant, you know, for the last several months. Yeah,
- 38:25but he and the Trump goes and he at the same time, he's doing
- 38:29an interview with Tucker Carlson there and it was funny. I saw, I
- 38:32saw a little no, no, I saw a little bit of it,
- 38:36just Morton and he's he you know, Trump can be funny. He can't,
- 38:39he can't. But you know, today he's going to be arraigned in
- 38:44another courtroom and he's going to be fingerprinted and wade and the whole thing.
- 38:47And there's a there's actually, you know, there's actually betting in Vegas on
- 38:51what he's going to weigh in literally there's props on that right now. I
- 38:54mean they're they're little are So what's gonna happen? I want to get to
- 38:57tight coup, But what's gonna happen in that situation with with Trump? I
- 39:00mean, overall, we can bring it, we can revisit, have you
- 39:02on some other time. What's going to happen? I think he's going to
- 39:06be if they can get him in the dock, he's going to be convicted
- 39:08in in some courtroom somewhere. Now. Interestingly, David his down in Port
- 39:17Lucy, Florida, where the documents case that to me seems like the easiest
- 39:22case. It's concise, but that's the place where he could get a MAGA
- 39:27person on the journey. I mean, because it's a very Republican area.
- 39:30It only takes one juror, and this is the highest profile case since O.
- 39:35J. Simpson, and it'll be more so with the stakes You're gonna
- 39:38be so high and these MAGA folks are going to be trying to get on
- 39:42that jury. The case I think that's the most important case for me is
- 39:45January sixth case, and it should not be in DC. Maybe Northern Virginia.
- 39:52Of course, I'd love for and bring here to trol Well, I
- 39:54mean, I thought it was laughable when they said we're gonna bring it to
- 39:59West Virginia. I mean, I'm like you, economic impact, I'm all
- 40:01about that. Let's bring it to West Virginia. It's not far from it.
- 40:06But I mean, is it Is it really going to be fair and
- 40:07impartial if it's in West Virginia, in the Panhandle and maybe the Eastern Pane
- 40:15the other Pandel the Eastern Panhandle. Maybe all right, let me get this
- 40:19texting before we move on. Tech says uh. The vivic wants us Ramaswamby
- 40:23wants us to raise the voting age of twenty five. He also wants mandatory
- 40:27military service. While he himself didn't serve in the military. He's thirty six
- 40:30years old, so he could have gone to a rack re Afghanistan, but
- 40:34chose to be a finance and tech bro instead. The guy's a snake,
- 40:37he absolutely is. And he you know, that's one of my big objections
- 40:43to Donald Trump. He graduated from a military school. Don't give me this
- 40:49bone spurs crape, and he should have gone into the military like everybody else
- 40:52did of his generation. Not only did he dodge the military he did.
- 40:59He did feigned and demeaned the people that did goat on the red carpet,
- 41:04step across the line and serve their country. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 41:07And that's what I simply don't understand that West Virginia being the kind of
- 41:12military state we are. More people per capita have died in West Virginia than
- 41:15in any other state. How we can support Donald Trump? And I voted
- 41:20for the guy twice, Okay, how we can support Donald Trump based on
- 41:23that alone? I just I don't know what. I don't know what.
- 41:27It's an act of faith. Yeah, you put the person first. He's
- 41:30the deity and everything else revolves around it. I five any live presented in

- 42:57polygraph operator? Tell me about this young lady? Did you? Did you?
- 43:00I mean, can you imagine what that would be like? He's betrayed
- 43:04everybody and he should go. And you know what David I took up for
- 43:07him. I took up for him. I'm not sure if I did it
- 43:12on this show, but I know I did on a Hoppy show. And
- 43:14I was on the road. I'd been out to California and I was driving
- 43:17and I called him, and I don't like to mess around and Mayor Goodman's
- 43:22business. She's the mayor, not me. But I called him because I
- 43:25had the opportunity to take up take up for him. And I said,
- 43:29Tyke, are there any more women? And he said to me, he
- 43:35said, no, sir, Mayor, absolutely not. And I took him
- 43:39in his word and he lied to me. Now, he could have the
- 43:44easiest thing to do, would have just said that, you know, a
- 43:46mayor, I'm a representive. I'm told not to talk about this now with
- 43:51all this going on and everything, And I said, okay, And I
- 43:53wouldn't have gone on Hoppy to take up for him. He you know,
- 43:57it would have. But he's he's not fit to be a police officer,
- 44:01if that's true. And that young lady, I reached out to her,
- 44:07you know, center a message on Facebook and told her how sorry I was
- 44:12that everything happened to her. But Kenny Bass gave her fifteen minutes on the
- 44:17on the TV. I mean, it's like a talk show. It was.
- 44:22To me, it was riveting and I thought she was credible, and
- 44:25I don't know what anybody else thought, but he's not fit to be a
- 44:28police officer. Tech says, wasn't Danny Jones one of the guys pushing the
- 44:31tie hutt as an exemplary officer narrative? Should be interesting to see what he
- 44:36says. This came in before you came in. I said that. I
- 44:38did say that, and when I was there, he was, or at
- 44:42least what I knew of him, he was and to the council members,
- 44:45and that's why I said he was. He was an exemplary officer. He
- 44:50gave the appearance of such, and the council stood up for him, and
- 44:54the mayor stood up for him. And that's the ultimate betrayal who appointed him
- 45:00to be the police chief. And it's it's dead rong. It's just dead

- 47:17Danny Jones is here, tech says Dave. Isn't it interesting that we didn't
- 47:22hear about Chief Hunts scandal and suspension when had happened around April twenty twenty two
- 47:25and before the mayoral election of November twenty twenty two. It's I could argue
- 47:30either side, it's personnel and if that's well, I want to be careful
- 47:39here easy now, I would have I would have cut him loose. Then
- 47:45I just said, Tyke, we're going to do this quietly. You're going
- 47:47back in the ranks and all this doesn't have to come up. And he
- 47:52could he could have probably stayed down. I'm not sure that other young lady
- 47:55would have come out. The young lady Dots wore in take quick story about
- 48:00that. You know, you see all the tats she had on her arms,
- 48:05and she stood up there sleeveless and there's all that ink and I hope
- 48:09she didn't mind me using her name, Lieutenant All she's a captain now.
- 48:13Autumn Davis was sitting out there. She's heard build her size, and she
- 48:15had a coat on, and I said, let's go back here to my
- 48:19office. And I got Autumn. I said, Autumn, do you mind
- 48:22if she were your jacket she's getting sworn And Autumn said fine. And I
- 48:28swear that that the jacket she sworn in was was the jacket of a police
- 48:32officer, because I thought if her family member was taking pictures, there may
- 48:36be somebody that, you know, didn't want to be distracted, the inks
- 48:39distracting to me. I'm we're just old, Danny. I'm seventy three years
- 48:44old, so that kind of stuff I'm still not used to. I'm fifty
- 48:46three, either of my Texas Dave. Absolutely amen to Mayor Danny Jones,
- 48:50first honest voice of the police chief issue. Yet it's troubling that Mayor Goodwin
- 48:53is taking her reputation of credibility over a corrupt line cop. I don't.
- 48:58I don't. Look, he knew what I knew, and I'm sure she
- 49:01was told what I was told, and I backed him, So I backed
- 49:04her on this one. I was gonna say, what did you see in
- 49:07because you hired? Did you hire? Yeah? What did you see for
- 49:13him perfect. He's he's not a tall guy, but he's a wrecked I
- 49:19was a perfect posture. He's he's very he has good, good mannerisms,
- 49:29very professionals, his demeanor. And there was a public figure that came in
- 49:37my office at former public figure came in my office one morning at ten thirty
- 49:42and he was drunk, and he was a former mayor from a long time
- 49:49ago, and he demanded I fixed a ticket. And he was drunk ten
- 49:53thirty in the morning, and I knew he was going to go out and
- 49:57get in his car in the garage. I said, Tyke, I want
- 49:59you to go out there and arrest him as soon as he backs out,
- 50:01arresting for DUI. And he did. And that guy, Yeah, I'm
- 50:09serious. I'm a little serious, more serious about drunk driving. Maybe I
- 50:13should be. People get killed doing that. So so, so what you're
- 50:19saying that you think that Ti Hunt should resign completely from the police. Yeah,
- 50:22he's no good as a witness statement. Yeah. And he's no good
- 50:24a lieutenant. Are you kidding me? He's a he's in other words,
- 50:30he's going to have a sergeant under him and all these police officers under him.
- 50:36He's not another one. Let me tell you something else. He'll be
- 50:38decertified. Yeah, the police officers get certification. You pull a stuthing like
- 50:45this, you lose your decertification, which means you cannot be a police officer
- 50:50anywhere, anywhere and any small town or whatever. Now the good news is,
- 50:53and I've learned this from the young the first accuser, that he has
- 50:58a construction company. But he will lose this pension. He will get paid
- 51:01back all the money he put puts in, which will come somewhere between one
- 51:06hundred and two hundred thousand dollars. I don't think he could survive this as
- 51:09a police officer. And that's my feeling. What should the mayor do?
- 51:13In your opinion? I know you don't like to get into a mayor good
- 51:15ones well, but what should the mayor or? Are those in charge?
- 51:17What should they do at this point? And I think that I think he's
- 51:22going to have a lawyer and her lawyer, Kevin Baker's at his name,
- 51:27city attorney, Kevin Baker. I think Kevin Baker should communicate his lawyer's time
- 51:30to go. And this is not going to get any any This is just
- 51:36going to be nothing but dirt. The whole way in and unless you want
- 51:39to get in the mud. And I think he's not dumb. I mean
- 51:43he needs to go and she she can communicate through her lawyer. I think
- 51:47he's already demeaned her enough. Quite frankly, he should go. Mayor,
- 51:54former mayor Danny Jones. Always a pleasure to have you on the show,
- 51:57sir, Thanks for nuts book. I don't know what that what he says
- 52:02that, but okay, all right, we'll talk again soon. Man,
