  Speaker 1: Hi.
• 5:18
Speaker 4: Hello, Hello, Hello, my fellow, what m poet tests? How
• 5:25
  Speaker 4: are you?

Speaker 1: I'm good so Marris good, well.

• 5:40
Speaker 5: Okay, I'm glad you guys are here with me too.
• 5:46
Speaker 5: Help me start my inaugural podcast. So we'll start with
• 5:51
Speaker 5: ladies first. If you don't mind, could you just give
• 5:53
Speaker 5: us a little background and we'll go from Roses to me,
• 5:57
Speaker 5: from a Phoenix Sapphire to Roses. Just give a little
• 6:02
Speaker 5: bio and a background about you, so I audience will
• 6:05
Speaker 5: know a little bit about you.
• 6:08
Speaker 1: So I am Sapphire, Phoenix Sapphire. I am a poet
• 6:12
Speaker 1: and an entrepreneur. My first poem was published back when
• 6:16
Speaker 1: I was thirteen and did a what is it a contest? Sorry,
• 6:24
  Speaker 1: I got a little nervous. I don't know when it
• 6:26
Speaker 1: comes to my poetry, and I have a poem I'm
• 6:28
Speaker 1: gonna share if opportunity arises that talks about my nervousness
• 6:35
Speaker 1: and my nerves when it comes to my poetry and
• 6:37
Speaker 1: the vulnerability of writing poetry. So just I work with
• 6:42
Speaker 1: artists in the city, and that's really all I want
• 6:47
Speaker 1: to say about me. Let's move on to Roses. Okay,
• 6:52
Speaker 1: you had a floor, Roses.
• 6:55
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 6:56
Speaker 6: My name is Roses.
• 6:57
Speaker 7: I'm the founder and CEO of Sculptor Roses Company. So
• 7:02
Speaker 7: I'm a business owner and I'm also the chapter leader
• 7:06
Speaker 7: of Texas for the Poetry Business Network, and I'm an author.
• 7:10
Speaker 7: I'm a writer, an artist, and a lover of cinema
• 7:18
Speaker 7: and fashion, and I try to kind of dip my
• 7:22
Speaker 7: hands into different areas and pots and kind of diversify
• 7:28
Speaker 7: with what's best for my brand and who I am.
• 7:34
Speaker 7: I can definitely relate to you of Phoenix. I'm very
• 7:38
Speaker 7: much an introvert, but I felt called to the stage
• 7:44
Speaker 7: as a way to kind of share my testimony and story,
• 7:47
  Speaker 7: and so.
• 7:48
Speaker 6: Against what I like to do, I usually.
• 7:51
Speaker 7: Go up and get on stage and share some poetry
• 7:54
Speaker 7: and be vulnerable and.
• 7:56
Speaker 5: So and that the hardest part of being a poet,
• 8:02
Speaker 5: because I think a lot of us are kind of
• 8:05
Speaker 5: you know, I can't say for myself.
• 8:07
Speaker 4: I'm introverted, but I'm introvert extrovert, And the thing.
• 8:13
Speaker 5: About being a poet, we have to be vulnerable, right,
• 8:16
Speaker 5: So I'm gonna ask you, guys, so how do you
• 8:19
Speaker 5: handle the privacy, you know, balancing being private and vulnerable.
• 8:26
Speaker 1: When putting your poetry out there. Well, in my poetry,
• 8:35
  Speaker 1: I don't care about vulnerability. It doesn't matter when I'm
• 8:38
Speaker 1: speaking to someone and there's not one hundred eyes or
• 8:43
Speaker 1: even twenty eyes on me. It flows easy. When I
• 8:48
Speaker 1: feel a lot of people are going to judge what
• 8:54
Speaker 1: I'm going to say, or I've had poems that I've
• 8:57
Speaker 1: written because I speak a lot about consciousness. We're friends
• 9:01
Speaker 1: of like, you know, this isn't the right environment to
• 9:06
Speaker 1: speak about that, And so it's one of those things
• 9:10
Speaker 1: where you just have to be free to be yourself
• 9:12
Speaker 1: and flow in who you are and just be what
• 9:17
Speaker 1: let it be what it is.
• 9:21
Speaker 7: Right about you Roses, I definitely agree with that, and
• 9:25
Speaker 7: I would say when I'm on the stage writing poetry,
• 9:30
Speaker 7: it's the one place I can truly be myself and
• 9:34
Speaker 7: be one hundred percent vulnerable to the best of my ability,
• 9:37
Speaker 7: and I try to challenge myself.
• 9:39
  Speaker 6: If there's something.
• 9:41
Speaker 7: That comes to my mind or when i'm writing that
• 9:43
  Speaker 7: I feel like I don't know if I want to
• 9:45
Speaker 7: share that, I try to push myself to share it
• 9:50
Speaker 7: because I want to be one hundred percent genuine and
• 9:53
  Speaker 7: I want to.
• 9:56
  Speaker 6: Share my story.
• 9:57
Speaker 7: And because also you never know who else is going
• 10:02
Speaker 7: through the same thing that.
• 10:03
Speaker 6: Is still silent and they're not able to say it.
• 10:06
Speaker 7: So if I can say it and it can help
• 10:09
Speaker 7: someone else, all the more reason to share it. But
• 10:14
  Speaker 7: if it's not poetry, I'm I'm a closed door pretty
• 10:19
Speaker 7: much unless i'm unless you're close to me and you're
• 10:24
Speaker 7: in my little circle, then I'll share some stuff here
• 10:27
Speaker 7: and there. But outside of poetry, I'm pretty shut.
• 10:38
Speaker 1: My truth easily going in those words that I wrote,
• 10:44
Speaker 1: because I'll mainly write when I'm going through something or
• 10:48
Speaker 1: something sits on my spirit really strong, I'll go and
• 10:51
Speaker 1: I'll pour it out on paper. So as I was
• 10:53
Speaker 1: growing up writing from being back in middle school, it
• 10:58
Speaker 1: was something that was just for me. I would write
• 11:01
Speaker 1: it and I would leave it there. So as my
• 11:04
Speaker 1: words and connecting with people started to resonate, and I
• 11:09
Speaker 1: did my poetry for a couple of friends here and
• 11:12
Speaker 1: there and they say, oh, you need to get on stage,
• 11:14
Speaker 1: you need to share that. It just gives me the
• 11:17
Speaker 1: chills when I do it, and so I'm still very
• 11:20
  Speaker 1: nervous about it.
• 11:21
Speaker 4: So it's the opposite for me.
• 11:23
Speaker 1: I can share, but getting up there and reading those words,
• 11:26
Speaker 1: it feels it's so close to my heart that it's
• 11:30
Speaker 1: difficult at times. Yeah, it's nerve wracking your first time
• 11:35
Speaker 1: doing it, but you have to be authentic to yourself because,
• 11:40
Speaker 1: like Roses pointed out, which was a very valid point,
• 11:43
Speaker 1: is you give voice to people who may not have
• 11:46
Speaker 1: a courage to give voice, or who may not can
• 11:49
  Speaker 1: articulate what.
• 11:49
Speaker 4: They want to say. Right Like you say, Phoenix, I write.
• 11:55
Speaker 5: I find myself writing at times when I'm emotional experiencing
• 12:00
Speaker 5: something and it just comes. I don't know how you
• 12:03
Speaker 5: guys get your inspiration, but it's like when mind comes
• 12:07
Speaker 5: in ways, I have to stop whatever I'm doing wherever
• 12:10
Speaker 5: I'm at and just write, even if it's not a
• 12:13
Speaker 5: complete poem. Do you guys find yourself experiencing that where
• 12:17
Speaker 5: you just had the right to get your words out,
• 12:20
Speaker 5: to get those thoughts out before you lose them to
• 12:23
  Speaker 5: the universe.
• 12:25
Speaker 6: I definitely, yes, yes, most definitely.
• 12:30
Speaker 7: I have multiple categorized notes for writing. I have small
• 12:38
Speaker 7: notebooks that I keep on hand because I like to
• 12:41
Speaker 7: handwrite stuff too, in my pocket, and so I'm always
• 12:44
Speaker 7: stuff will just come.
• 12:45
Speaker 6: And I got to jot it down.
• 12:47
Speaker 7: And there's been plenty of times where I say, okay,
• 12:50
Speaker 7: I'll remember it and usually don't and then I'm mad
• 12:53
Speaker 7: at myself. So yes, you got to write it down
• 12:56
  Speaker 7: right away.
• 12:59
Speaker 4: I forgot the most important question. What are you guys? Genre?
• 13:03
Speaker 4: What do you write about? What is your main genre?
• 13:08
Speaker 4: And how did you get your stage name? That's something
• 13:11
Speaker 4: yet I have to find.
• 13:15
Speaker 1: Okay, you want me to go first, ladies first. So
• 13:23
Speaker 1: Sapphire was first. He came from. I was going through
• 13:27
Speaker 1: a divorce and everything, and I didn't want My mom
• 13:30
Speaker 1: was like, keep your kid's last name. But I was
• 13:34
Speaker 1: at a place where I was being renewed and I
• 13:36
Speaker 1: didn't want that last name, and I was just looking
• 13:38
Speaker 1: for something else to call myself. I started calling myself
• 13:42
Speaker 1: Amper Sapphire that time, Phoenix. My kids, we were going
• 13:50
Speaker 1: through a lot, and.
• 13:53
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: They called me on the phone and they were telling
• 13:56
Speaker 1: me something that happened, and I said, I felt like
• 14:00
Speaker 1: we were overcoming so many things back to back, and
• 14:03
Speaker 1: I was like, I feel like there's fire flowing through
• 14:06
Speaker 1: my veins. And my daughters were like, they called me phoenix,
• 14:10
Speaker 1: and their friends started calling me phoenix, and that's where
• 14:13
Speaker 1: Phoenix Thathire came from.
• 14:16
Speaker 4: You know, I want a phoenix. You know I love
• 14:18
Speaker 4: a phoenix. It's close to my heart.
• 14:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's rising from the ashes, and you know, as
• 14:24
Speaker 1: I'm elevated, I kind of don't go by that name
• 14:28
Speaker 1: so much anymore, but it is how people know me.
• 14:32
Speaker 1: But I got used to standing in those ashes and
• 14:35
Speaker 1: that fire, and I don't care if anything's burned down.
• 14:37
Speaker 1: I'd rather be sad today so that I can be
• 14:41
Speaker 1: peaceful tomorrow. And I want to face things. And I
• 14:46
Speaker 1: have this strength that I don't think a lot of
• 14:48
Speaker 1: people are used to. So I don't want to stand
• 14:52
Speaker 1: in ashes. I don't want to burn things down. But
• 14:55
Speaker 1: the rising, you get addicted to the pain, or the
• 14:58
Speaker 1: rather the ability to overcome pain, right, and I'll stop there.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: In my genre of poetry, I really don't think that
• 15:11
Speaker 1: I would say that I flow towards consciousness, but I
• 15:14
Speaker 1: don't know what genre that would fall in or the
• 15:18
Speaker 1: right way to say it. But awakening, is that.
• 15:23
Speaker 4: A genre consciousness? Spiritually aware? Yeah?
• 15:28
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, so that would be mine?
• 15:33
Speaker 3: All right, okays, I hear your name.
• 15:39
Speaker 6: So I got my name.
• 15:42
Speaker 7: Uh So I love the artistic side of me, loves
• 15:46
Speaker 7: floor open and flowers, anything like that. My favorite is
• 15:50
Speaker 7: a rose, and so I've always collected rose stuff. As
• 15:55
Speaker 7: you can see my shirt, it's got roses all over it.
• 15:58
Speaker 7: I got roses behind me. Anything that has roses, I'm
• 16:02
Speaker 7: going to get it in because they don't make a
• 16:06
Speaker 7: lot of rose stuff for guys.
• 16:07
Speaker 6: So if I find it in my size, especially, I'm
• 16:10
Speaker 6: going to get it.
• 16:11
Speaker 7: But when I used to go by the name PostScript
• 16:16
Speaker 7: for all my poetry, and that's where the PS comes from,
• 16:21
Speaker 7: which is my signature ending for every poem.
• 16:25
Speaker 6: I ended in the PS.
• 16:26
Speaker 7: And when I created my business, I wanted something that
• 16:31
Speaker 7: can encompass the umbrella of all my different passions, so art, life,
• 16:40
Speaker 7: coaching and writing and public speaking and anything else. And
• 16:45
Speaker 7: so when I was trying to come up with new name,
• 16:51
Speaker 7: creative name. Roses was definitely one of the top picks
• 16:56
Speaker 7: for me. And I'll never forget this. I was kind
• 17:00
Speaker 7: of like praying about it and talking to God on.
• 17:03
Speaker 6: What I should do.
• 17:05
Speaker 7: And I was out serving in the community and we
• 17:08
  Speaker 7: were giving.
• 17:09
Speaker 6: Food away and in front of me was this.
• 17:20
Speaker 7: Little thing of cupcakes and there are seven cupcakes in there,
• 17:25
Speaker 7: and seven is the number of completion. And I had
• 17:28
Speaker 7: seven in my head a lot during that time and season,
• 17:33
Speaker 7: and the top of the cupcakes looked like roses, and
• 17:37
Speaker 7: so I was like, Ah, there it is.
• 17:40
Speaker 6: That's what it's going to be.
• 17:41
Speaker 7: And so I go by Roses and then my business
• 17:45
Speaker 7: is called Sculpe through Roses Company, and that's how that
• 17:47
Speaker 7: kind of just all meshed together. But I love Roses
• 17:51
Speaker 7: and so it only it felt natural.
• 17:54
Speaker 6: And I guess for genre, I write a.
• 17:58
Speaker 7: Lot about faith, mental health, and romance, all right, the
• 18:05
  Speaker 7: most about romance.
• 18:09
  Speaker 4: Romance.
• 18:10
Speaker 5: Yes, I've heard your I've had the privilege for those
• 18:15
Speaker 5: who are watching you, I've had the privilege to to
• 18:18
Speaker 5: see Roses. We were in those Foscars together, which in
• 18:22
Speaker 5: Dallas is like the spoken Oscars.
• 18:24
  Speaker 4: And I've also.
• 18:26
Speaker 5: Watched him performer I've also had the privilege of seeing
• 18:29
Speaker 5: Phoenix Sapphire performed awesome, awesome. Now we are gonna let
• 18:33
Speaker 5: them bless us with some poetry in a little bit
• 18:36
Speaker 5: while we you know, we just we just kicking back
• 18:39
Speaker 5: and just talking about our poetry right now and being
• 18:42
Speaker 5: a poet and some of the some of the I
• 18:45
Speaker 5: guess not obstacles, but it's also victories and being a poet.
• 18:51
Speaker 5: I guess my next question would be, like everyone, when
• 18:56
Speaker 5: you have blocks, how do you what do you do
• 18:58
Speaker 5: to restart? Because we all go through times and we
• 19:02
Speaker 5: have writer's blox, that's what it is. Are your creative
• 19:07
Speaker 5: decifle because something's going on in your life? How do you, guys, reset, rejuvenate, restart.
• 19:18
Speaker 1: I guess it would just be energy, is how I
• 19:21
Speaker 1: would answer. It took me a long time to start
• 19:26
Speaker 1: back writing poetry when a lot of what I had
• 19:29
Speaker 1: written was destroyed. So I still will go through moments
• 19:33
Speaker 1: of writer's block, but I write what comes to me.
• 19:38
  Speaker 1: I don't force it. So if I'm in a season
• 19:41
Speaker 1: where I'm not writing too much, then I'm okay with that,
• 19:45
Speaker 1: and then I'll have, like you said earlier, like the
• 19:47
Speaker 1: little pieces of things that I'll go back to when
• 19:50
Speaker 1: I'm in that energy and it'll just be little notes
• 19:53
Speaker 1: in my phone or my notebooks.
• 20:01
Speaker 7: I think for me, in order to reset, I go
• 20:08
Speaker 7: to my first I isolate because I'm an introvert, so
• 20:12
Speaker 7: I have to get time alone to think, process and reset,
• 20:18
Speaker 7: and so I'll do that by going to the movies
• 20:21
Speaker 7: because I love watching movies and it's also a place
• 20:24
Speaker 7: where I draw inspiration. Or I like to walk around
• 20:28
Speaker 7: the mall and shop or Windows shop and I'll just
• 20:33
Speaker 7: open up my notes app listening to the music and
• 20:37
Speaker 7: I'll try to go through some stuff that I started
• 20:40
Speaker 7: and see what catches my mind and kind of continue
• 20:45
Speaker 7: on from there. And I also like going to art
• 20:50
Speaker 7: museums as an artist. I love just kind of decompressing
• 20:57
Speaker 7: into the world of another artist and trying to figure
• 21:03
Speaker 7: out what they were trying to say within the piece
• 21:06
Speaker 7: that they created, and just noticing the different techniques and details.
• 21:13
Speaker 7: It really puts me in on it. It's a big
• 21:17
Speaker 7: reset button for me, and so I would say those
• 21:20
  Speaker 7: two definitely.
• 21:23
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of like me I have when I'm
• 21:29
Speaker 5: facing a huge writer's block, which I went through recently.
• 21:32
Speaker 5: I guess back in the fall. I have I have
• 21:35
Speaker 5: to I have to disassociate. I just have to unplug
• 21:39
Speaker 5: and just have complete silence and quiet, because you know
• 21:43
Speaker 5: your mind, it's like a mini computer. And so that's
• 21:47
Speaker 5: how I reset now shopping, I'm.
• 21:49
Speaker 4: With you on that, Roses, but I think I have
• 21:52
  Speaker 4: a problem.
• 21:54
Speaker 5: I'm with you on reset reset on that.
• 22:02
Speaker 4: But yeah, writing, writing is something else.
• 22:07
Speaker 5: And I know both of you guys have worked on books,
• 22:11
Speaker 5: and for me, that kind of made me shut down
• 22:14
Speaker 5: when it gotten it.
• 22:15
Speaker 4: After I'm done the editing.
• 22:17
Speaker 5: Process, that is my least favorite part of writing.
• 22:22
Speaker 4: What about you all? The editing?
• 22:25
Speaker 1: Lord, I'm still in that process. So I just finished
• 22:29
Speaker 1: my book not too long ago, so it's still in
• 22:32
Speaker 1: the process of being edited and getting ready to go.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: So I'm not enjoying it that much. But it's okay.
• 22:41
Speaker 4: Please tell us the name of your book.
• 22:44
Speaker 1: It's Awakening to Reality, okay.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: And your poems? Wait, do you have some of your
• 22:52
Speaker 4: poetry from the book?
• 22:55
Speaker 1: I have it on my phone. Why do you want
• 23:02
Speaker 1: me to read right now? Are you putting me on
• 23:06
  Speaker 1: the spot?
• 23:08
Speaker 4: I might be putting. I'm putting you. You're gonna be
• 23:10
Speaker 4: put on the spot twice.
• 23:12
Speaker 3: But yeah, if you want to pull one up, and
• 23:14
Speaker 3: then we can go to Roses so he can answer
• 23:17
Speaker 3: the question too about the editing, because, like I.
• 23:20
Speaker 4: Said, that's not my favorite part.
• 23:22
Speaker 1: Okay, hold on closed.
• 23:25
Speaker 5: And I'm sorry if my editors on here because normal
• 23:27
Speaker 5: as she watches, you know, I don't like that part.
• 23:30
Speaker 4: That's like having a baby to me. You're right there, Roses, Yeah.
• 23:38
Speaker 7: I completely agree. I strongly dislike editing. And I was
• 23:45
Speaker 7: about to say hey, but I was like, let me not.
• 23:47
Speaker 7: I'm not gonna say hey, but I strongly dislike editing.
• 23:49
Speaker 7: It's by far my least favorite part, and I have
• 23:55
Speaker 7: I want nothing to do with it.
• 23:56
Speaker 6: I just want to write. I want to get my
• 23:58
  Speaker 6: thoughts out there.
• 23:59
Speaker 7: I want to have it organized and broken up the
• 24:03
Speaker 7: way I want to and then maybe add some art
• 24:05
Speaker 7: here and there, and then I.
• 24:06
Speaker 6: Just want to push the editing to the side for
• 24:09
  Speaker 6: someone else.
• 24:11
Speaker 5: Right, that's the I think that's with all the creators, right,
• 24:15
Speaker 5: we're like, why we have to why we have to
• 24:17
Speaker 5: do this part? Because that that's my fight every time
• 24:22
  Speaker 5: with my editor Joy, because I'm like, don't, don't, don't
• 24:25
Speaker 5: move those dots, because you know, you know, we don't
• 24:28
Speaker 5: have to be so formal when we write poetry and
• 24:31
Speaker 5: pros right, I'm like, I know what.
• 24:34
Speaker 4: I'm thinking and I know what I wrote.
• 24:37
Speaker 5: And when you when I do dot dot, that means
• 24:39
Speaker 5: I'm continuing my thought.
• 24:41
Speaker 1: Because God has a meaning.
• 24:47
Speaker 8: Editors that's not tired, like, what what is this? God?
• 24:53
Speaker 4: God has a meaning?
• 24:55
Speaker 3: See joy if you're watching it, Yeah, it has a.
• 25:04
  Speaker 4: Oh gosh.
• 25:05
Speaker 1: So just one that I'll do as part of my book.
• 25:12
Speaker 1: And I'm gonna do this one because I swear when
• 25:14
Speaker 1: I talk I can do so much. And let me
• 25:17
Speaker 1: just say, because I love working with artists. Originally I
• 25:20
Speaker 1: wanted to be in the background of everything. I never
• 25:26
Speaker 1: wanted to be a face of in something about doing
• 25:31
Speaker 1: my poetry. So the poem I'm gonna do is entitled
• 25:33
Speaker 1: Breathe because I swear when it has something to do
• 25:37
Speaker 1: with my poetry, I have a hard time breathing. My
• 25:40
Speaker 1: breath gets a little short. But I give all thanks
• 25:44
Speaker 1: to the Almighty. I really do that he enabled me.
• 25:49
Speaker 1: So this is entitled Breathe. Breathe life into me through me,
• 25:57
Speaker 1: use me that eternally I'm be a motivating factor to
• 26:02
Speaker 1: those who hear and do not fear the power of mind,
• 26:06
Speaker 1: holding magic and tongue, thinking to myself, Sapphire, you've waited
• 26:10
Speaker 1: too long, still holding onto dreams. Every time I pick
• 26:15
Speaker 1: up a microphone to speak, the moisture from my lips
• 26:18
Speaker 1: leaves me, and you may see me standing here. But mentally,
• 26:21
Speaker 1: I've already fallen to my knees and deemed this being unworthy.
• 26:26
Speaker 1: Yet and still I am begging the divine to continue
• 26:28
Speaker 1: to teach me, mold me, move me, that I may
• 26:31
Speaker 1: uniquely be intrigued by satisfying my own destiny. Worst enemy
• 26:36
Speaker 1: kept close to me. I see her in my reflection,
• 26:39
Speaker 1: looking back every day as I pain on my mask,
• 26:43
Speaker 1: and each seeming similar to the last. But see, I've
• 26:47
Speaker 1: understand that time is moving much too fast not to
• 26:50
Speaker 1: consider the simplicity of a conscious reality emotionally regaining possession
• 26:56
Speaker 1: of grace, which by definition meaning simple elegance or refinement
• 27:01
Speaker 1: of movement as almighty, be mighty and continue to move me,
• 27:05
Speaker 1: mold me, teach me, use me, breathing life into me eternally.
• 27:13
  Speaker 4: Thank you.
• 27:18
Speaker 1: O good, Yeah, thank.
• 27:21
Speaker 4: You, that was beautiful, Thank you so much.
• 27:25
Speaker 5: And Net explained what you were talking about when we
• 27:28
  Speaker 5: first open.
• 27:29
Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's every time and remember when we did
• 27:32
Speaker 1: it the show in Richardson. I don't know what it is,
• 27:36
Speaker 1: but you know, I do need more practice. I have
• 27:40
Speaker 1: focused a lot of my attention on other people and
• 27:44
Speaker 1: other things in the city and creating and you know,
• 27:49
Speaker 1: doing events and stuff like that. That the time that
• 27:52
Speaker 1: I've taken from December to now and actually focusing on
• 27:56
Speaker 1: my book and what I want to accomplish is you know,
• 28:00
Speaker 1: I'll be out there performing more very soon.
• 28:04
Speaker 5: Yes, please do. And baby girl, you don't need no
• 28:07
Speaker 5: more practice. You just need to.
• 28:08
Speaker 1: Do I know, thank you do it?
• 28:13
Speaker 4: Yes action wait, no you roses.
• 28:22
Speaker 7: Okay, I'm going to share my most recent poem I
• 28:29
Speaker 7: just finish, and it entitled brand new Beginnings. The first
• 28:42
Speaker 7: book of the Bible is Genesis, and last.
• 28:46
Speaker 6: The last thought I had gave me a revelation. When
• 28:50
  Speaker 6: you think of.
• 28:50
Speaker 7: New beginnings, you smell the tears of a fresh coat
• 28:53
Speaker 7: of paint. Some might even say brand new beginnings feel
• 28:57
Speaker 7: like midnight after New Year Eve, a painter's palette of
• 29:02
Speaker 7: fireworks explodes with hope that has never felt disappointment. Brand
• 29:07
Speaker 7: New Beginnings remind me of the candle musk of a
• 29:13
Speaker 7: new book with pages that haven't stepped into the footprints
• 29:17
Speaker 7: of crow's feet. However, sometimes brand new beginnings seem to
• 29:23
Speaker 7: be the alarm clock for my anxiety that reminds me
• 29:27
Speaker 7: of how much I prefer the sanctuary of solitude. I
• 29:33
Speaker 7: like to say I'm a full time loaner, but never alone.
• 29:37
Speaker 6: I part time friends all live in a bookstore off
• 29:41
  Speaker 6: Fifth Ave.
• 29:42
Speaker 7: We usually meet up there like every other Saturday, to
• 29:47
Speaker 7: discuss dreams that don't get enough sleep, love that is misunderstood,
• 29:53
Speaker 7: and a hope that matches Casper. I usually dress down,
• 29:57
Speaker 7: but on the weekend escapades, my favorite red colors are
• 30:01
Speaker 7: stitched within my essence and bleed through my accessories, dripping
• 30:06
Speaker 7: onto the array of paths.
• 30:10
  Speaker 6: I could choose.
• 30:13
Speaker 7: Book number one, entitled Red Receipts grab me first, jumping
• 30:19
Speaker 7: into the corner of my peripheral as if it was
• 30:22
Speaker 7: stopping and just waiting for my bus at the edge
• 30:30
Speaker 7: of the street. Fifth av can get busy, almost as
• 30:34
Speaker 7: busy as the business in my mind. Over time is
• 30:37
Speaker 7: embedded in my pillow, so I flex my hours by
• 30:41
Speaker 7: taking cat naps under the covers of desired categories and
• 30:47
Speaker 7: let the gravity of the hours just floats away. I
• 30:52
Speaker 7: love to let time watch me for a change and
• 30:56
Speaker 7: get lost in the poetry of stone cars, stories bound
• 31:01
Speaker 7: by the commandments of passion, red receipts.
• 31:05
Speaker 6: Things have been a little rocky.
• 31:07
Speaker 7: Since our last date, and you still haven't replied to
• 31:11
Speaker 7: my text. I know you need to be watered and
• 31:15
Speaker 7: read and protected and comforted, but I have been stuck
• 31:20
Speaker 7: on the same chapter for more than a few days.
• 31:22
Speaker 7: They say, just start something else, but I'm not the
• 31:28
Speaker 7: type to go book hopping. I've typed a couple of
• 31:31
Speaker 7: books enough to know they have feelings too.
• 31:34
Speaker 6: Yes, I want you to come to I.
• 31:36
Speaker 7: Can't stand the thought of our porcelain being broken up.
• 31:40
Speaker 6: I promise I'll read more between the lines of your life.
• 31:43
Speaker 6: Just promise me. It's not too late.
• 31:47
Speaker 7: Late fees are never in the budget, and I don't
• 31:50
Speaker 7: want to budge for someone else to get what my
• 31:53
Speaker 7: heart will die for.
• 31:54
Speaker 6: But sometimes forever ends before the end.
• 31:58
Speaker 7: Book number two title the Music of a Muse, and
• 32:01
Speaker 7: it interrupts what we have going on. Cheating isn't as
• 32:05
Speaker 7: off putting as it used to be. Please forgive me.
• 32:08
Speaker 7: I told myself I'd never be that guy, but I
• 32:12
Speaker 7: just got to see what's inside. So I walked inside
• 32:15
Speaker 7: the walls of pages as her song scribbled across my
• 32:20
Speaker 7: guitar heartstrings. I love the conversations you pick that don't
• 32:25
Speaker 7: need words. I want to read your book and your
• 32:29
Speaker 7: blank spaces, just so I can feel what space is like.
• 32:34
Speaker 7: How do you make earth have no gravity? I want
• 32:39
Speaker 7: to read the braille of your goosebumps, and I want
• 32:47
Speaker 7: to feel every inch of everything thoughts moving too fast
• 32:50
Speaker 7: to see. All this transpired within half of blank eyes open,
• 32:55
Speaker 7: and she was just sitting there, glowing.
• 33:01
Speaker 6: The music of a.
• 33:02
Speaker 7: Muse has a hug that scratches, like an old vinyl
• 33:07
Speaker 7: that only plays on the second try.
• 33:09
  Speaker 6: Now I'm confused.
• 33:10
Speaker 7: Do I really want a second chance or just another chance?
• 33:14
Speaker 7: That LUs self love is a must? Leash you rots
• 33:18
Speaker 7: in the rust of forgotten titles. I really don't believe
• 33:22
Speaker 7: in titles. But there's this girl, the same girl, coming
• 33:29
Speaker 7: up in different titles of these poems.
• 33:32
Speaker 6: Attention. The library closes in ten minutes. Where did the
• 33:38
  Speaker 6: time go?
• 33:38
Speaker 7: I always get lost behind your eyes?
• 33:41
  Speaker 6: This is goodbye?
• 33:44
Speaker 7: Ps, never mind, I'll just bring both books with me.
• 33:56
Speaker 5: Now you know what, both of y'all now didn't even
• 34:00
Speaker 5: want to read my poetry both tremendous. Now roses, I
• 34:08
Speaker 5: have to ask what inspired that? Because you said you
• 34:10
  Speaker 5: just wrote it.
• 34:12
Speaker 6: I did, so I got inspired.
• 34:15
Speaker 7: I just competed in the Texas Storytelling Festival, and the
• 34:22
Speaker 7: prompt for the storytelling slam was brand new Beginnings, and
• 34:27
  Speaker 7: so I.
• 34:29
Speaker 6: Was trying to put a little twist on it.
• 34:31
Speaker 7: And of course I always come at things most of
• 34:36
Speaker 7: the time from a romantic or romance perspective, and so
• 34:43
Speaker 7: the line about where I talked about the crows feet
• 34:47
Speaker 7: and like the middle of the poem is where I started,
• 34:52
Speaker 7: and then I kind of like added everything around it
• 34:54
Speaker 7: and kind of just shaped and flowed and I wrote it.
• 34:59
Speaker 6: I wrote it pretty quickly. I wrote it in like
• 35:01
Speaker 6: a couple of hours.
• 35:02
Speaker 7: Usually if I'm like really inspired, I can knock something out.
• 35:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean yeah. I always always like, of course,
• 35:15
Speaker 5: I'm gonna keep giving both of you guys accolades. I
• 35:19
Speaker 5: like both of you guys poetry so much. But and
• 35:23
Speaker 5: that that brings me to another thing, because you said slam. See,
• 35:27
Speaker 5: people who aren't new to poetry, there's different versions of poetry.
• 35:33
Speaker 5: You can be a slam poet, a spoken word poet.
• 35:38
Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I'm thinking of another.
• 35:40
Speaker 5: One, a prose poet. So what do you consider yourself
• 35:44
Speaker 5: more of because to me, slam is slam is.
• 35:49
Speaker 4: Is very performative. To me, you have to perform in Yeah,
• 35:56
Speaker 4: I'm trying to put a word do. You have to
• 35:58
Speaker 4: be very performative. It's very very emotional.
• 36:01
Speaker 5: It draws a lot of emotion because like if anybody
• 36:05
Speaker 5: watched Deaf Poet Jam, remember that those are a lot
• 36:09
Speaker 5: of poets on there. Myself, I'm more of a spoken
• 36:15
  Speaker 5: word so.
• 36:15
Speaker 4: I guess I'm more down the letter. I'm more you
• 36:22
  Speaker 4: paint it.
• 36:24
Speaker 1: I would say I'm a spoken word poet. Definitely not
• 36:26
Speaker 1: a slam for that, but yeah, definitely spoken word.
• 36:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just yeah.
• 36:34
Speaker 6: I'm trying to I completely agree with y'all.
• 36:37
Speaker 7: I'm definitely more of a prose and spoken word poet.
• 36:42
Speaker 7: I did that slam competition as a challenge to myself.
• 36:48
Speaker 7: It was on my birthday, and so I was like this,
• 36:51
Speaker 7: this seems like a cool thing to do, and uh,
• 36:54
Speaker 7: and it was fun. I enjoyed it, but I definitely
• 36:57
Speaker 7: don't consider myself a slam poet at all, and so
• 37:01
Speaker 7: I just wanted to get out there try it and
• 37:04
Speaker 7: it's a good way to practice and keep things moving.
• 37:10
Speaker 5: You want to know why, let may be very honest,
• 37:13
  Speaker 5: why I can't be a slam poet.
• 37:14
Speaker 4: It's my memory I might remember.
• 37:20
  Speaker 5: I don't think I can, uh, And I shouldn't say
• 37:24
  Speaker 5: can't because I probably can. I just don't want to
• 37:27
Speaker 5: stress this muscle to remember things. I do have some
• 37:33
Speaker 5: poems memorized, but I literally have to practice like an East,
• 37:36
Speaker 5: like when you're getting ready for Easter when you're a
• 37:39
Speaker 5: kid and prepare for your for.
• 37:41
  Speaker 4: Your Easter poem.
• 37:42
Speaker 5: That's me before before I have to perform anything memorized.
• 37:48
Speaker 4: I guess I put it like that that you phoenix.
• 37:53
Speaker 1: I can memorize it, but like I was performing at
• 37:57
Speaker 1: Maverick's first show we had with DFW Music, and there
• 38:02
Speaker 1: were a good like one hundred people in there, and
• 38:04
Speaker 1: one person at the front looked me in the eyes.
• 38:08
Speaker 1: I lost all my words. So even if I have it,
• 38:11
Speaker 1: sometimes I'll get ahead of myself when I'm performing because
• 38:17
Speaker 1: it makes me emotional. I can I feel so much
• 38:20
Speaker 1: and with people you know, so I don't know, I yeah, yeah,
• 38:26
Speaker 1: I can remember it in that moment.
• 38:31
Speaker 3: Well, I ain't gonna speak my age that could be
• 38:33
Speaker 3: why I have a heart to know. I can remember something.
• 38:38
Speaker 5: I wrote a short poem today because it was just
• 38:41
Speaker 5: something that came to me.
• 38:43
Speaker 4: It's not it's a short poem. We're gonna do another round.
• 38:46
Speaker 4: It's ky reflection normally I do.
• 38:51
Speaker 5: I'm on a romance relationship poetry, So this is kind
• 38:54
Speaker 5: of kind of different. It says, when you look in
• 38:58
Speaker 5: the mirror, do you like what you see? I know
• 39:01
Speaker 5: if you look at me, people see different pieces of me.
• 39:06
Speaker 5: See what you see is a direct reflection of you,
• 39:10
Speaker 5: and the energy is directed back at you. To some
• 39:15
Speaker 5: I'm the quietest, nicest person you may know. To others,
• 39:19
Speaker 5: I'm a file, heartless minute that walks around. This again,
• 39:25
Speaker 5: is a reflection of you floating back through me. Everything
• 39:29
Speaker 5: is energy reflect at times too. So if you see
• 39:32
Speaker 5: something you don't like in me, turn the mirror and
• 39:35
Speaker 5: take the reflection and see you.
• 39:38
  Speaker 1: So, yes, ma'am.
• 39:44
Speaker 4: I wrote that in the middle of driving.
• 39:46
  Speaker 7: A rook.
• 39:49
  Speaker 4: So that.
• 39:52
  Speaker 8: How is that.
• 39:56
  Speaker 1: For me? Arela?
• 40:02
Speaker 5: I don't know if the I has heard that. It
• 40:04
Speaker 5: was kind of like a Japanese gong, like okay, I
• 40:12
Speaker 5: have okay, who's doing that?
• 40:20
  Speaker 1: I don't okay?
• 40:21
Speaker 4: Well, thanks, No, I mean, okay, okay, so what does
• 40:29
  Speaker 4: knowing are?
• 40:31
Speaker 5: Do any of you guys have any poets that influence
• 40:34
Speaker 5: your work, whether uh some of the ancestors or current
• 40:38
Speaker 5: poets that are around on the scene, just anybody that
• 40:42
Speaker 5: that influences you or that you.
• 40:45
  Speaker 4: Kind of follow.
• 40:48
  Speaker 7: Uh.
• 40:48
Speaker 1: One of my favorite city poets is I think his
• 40:53
Speaker 1: name is Black Caesar. I'll say that he's pretty good. Yeah, yeah,
• 41:00
  Speaker 1: he's he's super cool. He's the only one I can
• 41:03
Speaker 1: think of off top as far as city. I would
• 41:09
Speaker 1: say I'm more influenced by books.
• 41:14
Speaker 4: I like to read, and I like to.
• 41:19
Speaker 1: I like to challenge my thought process on on on
• 41:23
Speaker 1: reality and the way that I see things. So I
• 41:26
Speaker 1: study a lot of harmatic principles tesla theories. So I
• 41:31
Speaker 1: did because I didn't know what to expect on the podcast.
• 41:34
Speaker 1: I did pull off some of one a couple of
• 41:37
Speaker 1: my favorite quotes. So, okay, if I could say one
• 41:42
Speaker 1: of my favorite Einstein quotes, it says imagination is more
• 41:48
Speaker 1: important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited, whereas imagination and
• 41:53
Speaker 1: imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.
• 42:00
Speaker 1: And and that's one of my favorite quotes. Right mm hmm, yeah,
• 42:08
Speaker 1: I'm here for you.
• 42:09
  Speaker 4: Next one.
• 42:10
Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, okay, So that's what And then that
• 42:16
Speaker 1: was the who done oh that I had pulled? Okay, okay.
• 42:23
Speaker 1: So I've been studying quantum theory and stuff a lot
• 42:28
Speaker 1: and Nicola Tesla Einstein back to the Egyptians and harmatics
• 42:34
Speaker 1: and how within every religion regardless, what truths are like
• 42:42
Speaker 1: a baseline anyways, uh, and how we limit ourselves or
• 42:47
Speaker 1: how I limit myself even in every aspect. But whatever
• 42:51
Speaker 1: we focus on and give our attention to, that's what
• 42:54
Speaker 1: the universe gives back to us. So did Nicola Tesla
• 43:00
Speaker 1: quote that I pulled and that I actually have this
• 43:03
Speaker 1: one written in my book. At work, we build, not
• 43:08
Speaker 1: to tear down. Most of our work and resources is squandered.
• 43:12
Speaker 1: Our onward march is marked by devastation. Everywhere there is
• 43:16
Speaker 1: appalling loss of time, effort, and life. The careless view
• 43:20
Speaker 1: but true, okay, And I know it sounds bad, but
• 43:25
Speaker 1: it's like if we build it up and tear it down,
• 43:29
Speaker 1: then what will we do? We'll rebuild it, right, So
• 43:32
Speaker 1: it's a constant cycle that when we become aware of
• 43:37
Speaker 1: what we're doing, and that awakening to reality, and like
• 43:40
Speaker 1: my awakening to my reality. I have poems like about
• 43:44
Speaker 1: ghosts and just the different phases that I went through
• 43:50
Speaker 1: from my past and my adolescence, going into being a
• 43:54
Speaker 1: wife and a mom and then being a single and
• 43:57
Speaker 1: on my own, and just the different elevation how I
• 44:02
Speaker 1: set that path for me to come to a point
• 44:06
Speaker 1: of destruction from my thought process in the way, and
• 44:10
Speaker 1: that what I was giving out and learning in myself
• 44:14
Speaker 1: and through those books and different I love perception, so
• 44:18
Speaker 1: what you perceive and how you see the world and
• 44:20
Speaker 1: how you see it, and we all come from different
• 44:23
Speaker 1: worlds living in the same reality, and that's why poetry
• 44:27
Speaker 1: is so beautiful to me. But yeah, those are two
• 44:30
Speaker 1: of my favorite quotes because it reminds me, you know,
• 44:34
Speaker 1: I create it, you know what I'm saying.
• 44:36
  Speaker 6: So.
• 44:39
Speaker 4: Right, No, that's very deep. Nah, I like that.
• 44:43
Speaker 9: Thank you, you have a favorite one.
• 44:49
  Speaker 6: I do.
• 44:50
Speaker 7: My My favorite quote is it's also I quote it
• 44:54
Speaker 7: in the next poem.
• 44:56
Speaker 6: On that share, but it's, uh, you remind me of
• 45:00
  Speaker 6: a rose.
• 45:01
Speaker 7: An absolute rose, and it's from the Great Gatsby book
• 45:06
  Speaker 7: and that's daisy.
• 45:11
Speaker 6: But yeah, the whole, the whole thing with roses for
• 45:16
Speaker 6: me is just remembering to continue to evolve and step
• 45:23
  Speaker 6: into the beauty.
• 45:27
Speaker 7: And I kind of talk about this too with the palm.
• 45:30
Speaker 7: How dead roses and dead pedals, Uh, to some is
• 45:38
Speaker 7: just as beautiful as the ones with life, and people
• 45:41
Speaker 7: save them and cherish them, and so there's not a
• 45:45
Speaker 7: lot that you can.
• 45:48
Speaker 6: Compare to the duality of a rose.
• 45:51
Speaker 4: I'll say, hm, that's so true.
• 45:54
Speaker 5: That's that's actually beautiful comparison. One of my favorite quotes
• 46:02
Speaker 5: is by malcaelm Xie says, if you have no critics,
• 46:05
Speaker 5: it's likely you have no success.
• 46:08
Speaker 4: And I've lived that.
• 46:10
Speaker 5: I lived at my whole life because you know, if
• 46:12
Speaker 5: nobody's criticizing you, are critiquing you.
• 46:16
Speaker 4: What are you doing?
• 46:17
Speaker 5: You being average, You've being on their level, You're not growing,
• 46:20
Speaker 5: you not elevating yourself. Now, when you have critics, you
• 46:24
Speaker 5: know you are doing something, whether it's good or bad.
• 46:27
Speaker 5: And I know people always ask me, how do you
• 46:30
Speaker 5: take criticism. I like to hear criticism. It's a different
• 46:35
Speaker 5: between being criticized, hearing constructive criticism, and being somebody trying
• 46:42
Speaker 5: to tear you down, because there's an amiss difference. Criticism
• 46:45
Speaker 5: is to help you grow, help you sharpen yourself.
• 46:49
Speaker 4: Which leads me to another favorite.
• 46:51
Speaker 5: One of my favorite quot quotes, iron sharping's iron. So
• 46:54
Speaker 5: if you have somebody that's trying to help you grow
• 46:57
Speaker 5: and they're growing, you're going to sharpen each other. So
• 47:00
Speaker 5: I just said all of my favorite quotes and my philosophy. Now,
• 47:05
Speaker 5: like I said, criticism isn't good, but you I take
• 47:12
Speaker 5: it in and try to learn from it. Now, if
• 47:14
Speaker 5: you're trying to tear me down, I'm a listen, but
• 47:17
Speaker 5: I'm gonna know the difference, right that. Yeah, So yeah,
• 47:22
Speaker 5: I think words whole power. And that's what's so powerful
• 47:27
Speaker 5: about poetry because you're able to say to put your
• 47:33
Speaker 5: essence and your your thoughts and your your power into
• 47:38
Speaker 5: the world for people to receive it, and as we
• 47:41
Speaker 5: have stated several times, and grow grow and glow from poetry.
• 47:47
  Speaker 4: So I'm ready.
• 47:49
Speaker 5: If you guys want to share more poetry and give analysis.
• 47:55
  Speaker 5: I'm I'm loving this and.
• 47:56
Speaker 4: I hope anybody on the poetry I am. Okay, Yeah, oh.
• 48:10
Speaker 1: This one I know almost by heart. I know it.
• 48:15
Speaker 1: It's just this is this was the first poem that
• 48:19
Speaker 1: I wrote with the intention of performing I don't know
• 48:25
Speaker 1: where it went, because man, some of my poetry that
• 48:32
Speaker 1: I'm putting in the book is from that that dire
• 48:36
Speaker 1: point in my life, you know, so not being in
• 48:40
Speaker 1: that energy so much anymore.
• 48:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's always it's always weird to me.
• 48:49
Speaker 7: When I go back and read some of my poems
• 48:51
Speaker 7: on like mental health and stuff, it seemed like where
• 48:56
Speaker 7: I was at and reading them compared to now, where
• 48:59
Speaker 7: I'm in much healthy and better stable state, I'm like, oh,
• 49:04
Speaker 7: my goodness, I wrote that.
• 49:07
Speaker 5: Right, I mean, that's how that That's how it was
• 49:10
Speaker 5: for me because I know, you guys know I started
• 49:14
Speaker 5: out through a divorce and healing myself. And I look
• 49:17
Speaker 5: back at some of those poems in my first book
• 49:20
Speaker 5: and I'm like, oh wow.
• 49:21
  Speaker 6: That woo.
• 49:22
Speaker 4: That was that cut deep and that really was me.
• 49:24
Speaker 5: I was like this and had thoughts like this, But
• 49:29
Speaker 5: you're a poetry shows your evolution.
• 49:31
  Speaker 4: That's what's so lovely about.
• 49:33
Speaker 5: It, right, and and state that's not me anymore.
• 49:39
  Speaker 4: It was me.
• 49:41
Speaker 5: But anything you go through, like they say in church,
• 49:45
Speaker 5: is your testimony to make you who you are.
• 49:48
Speaker 4: So if you had that, you wouldn't evolve to where
• 49:51
  Speaker 4: you are now.
• 49:52
Speaker 1: Growth no matter how true. Mm hmm, so true. Are
• 50:00
Speaker 1: you ready for me?
• 50:02
  Speaker 4: Yes, ma'am?
• 50:04
Speaker 1: Okay okay. So, like I said, this is the first
• 50:06
Speaker 1: poem I wrote with the intention of performing. And I
• 50:09
Speaker 1: actually wrote it in my mom's little hallway, standing up
• 50:13
Speaker 1: on her ironing board, and it just poured out of me.
• 50:18
Speaker 1: And then I added more to it later. But it
• 50:22
Speaker 1: is entitled stand. I stand here as I am. I
• 50:29
Speaker 1: do not attempt to deny or save face. Still I
• 50:32
Speaker 1: seek his embrace, knowing not if this dream I chase
• 50:36
Speaker 1: is covered by his grace. Still I stand, devising plans
• 50:41
Speaker 1: of success for everyone around me, feeling left alone to
• 50:44
Speaker 1: watch my people's sleep, not wanting to change or been
• 50:48
Speaker 1: the frame of your existence. Rather, you would want to
• 50:51
Speaker 1: miss this so you can claim you did not know
• 50:55
Speaker 1: or could not see. But He is the air we
• 50:58
Speaker 1: breathe me. I will not cease to be, but become
• 51:01
Speaker 1: a phoenix. See this fire encompasses me and for all eternity.
• 51:06
Speaker 1: I would rather seek to find a king than settle
• 51:09
Speaker 1: for this blasphemy being offered to me. I've come to
• 51:12
Speaker 1: bring truth motivation to the masses, if and only we
• 51:15
Speaker 1: seek to grasp it, understand being beyond a filling, devotion
• 51:21
Speaker 1: rising above religion, What is the point of it? If
• 51:28
Speaker 1: devotion rising above religion, what is the point of it?
• 51:31
Speaker 1: If you spend your nights wiping tears from your eyes,
• 51:35
Speaker 1: that is not the mercy that has been promised to me.
• 51:38
Speaker 1: Nor will I sit here believing I can fly and
• 51:40
Speaker 1: have not the wings to carry me. Like the joining
• 51:44
Speaker 1: of a legacy in empire falls even when it is
• 51:47
Speaker 1: hidden behind four walls. Because if I am not good
• 51:50
Speaker 1: within me, who can I be to the people he brings?
• 51:54
Speaker 1: Ask yourself what it means to be saved? To find
• 51:57
Speaker 1: a savior, consider the mind and its power, and do
• 52:01
Speaker 1: not lose sight of the hour. We live in the
• 52:03
Speaker 1: last days, pretending not to feel the change in the air,
• 52:07
Speaker 1: weeping of how it's not fair yet, and still forgetting
• 52:09
Speaker 1: the connections of energy, and surely we do dispense it.
• 52:13
Speaker 1: Then try to forget it, but it follows, and soon
• 52:16
Speaker 1: enough we feel hollow. So I ask, what is there
• 52:19
Speaker 1: left to be saved? Remember we have to be the change,
• 52:23
Speaker 1: and if we are the change, then we cannot remain
• 52:26
Speaker 1: the same. We must elevate our thinking and rise to
• 52:29
Speaker 1: this awakening, to reality, that we may become more than
• 52:34
Speaker 1: who we are in our dreams, see beyond the things
• 52:37
Speaker 1: we have seen, and in turn we shall live out
• 52:41
Speaker 1: our lives victoriously, no longer left victim of thought. See
• 52:46
Speaker 1: you read your book and you claim he paid the cost.
• 52:49
Speaker 1: Then you turn around, face a trial and look at
• 52:52
Speaker 1: lack as though it be lost. But see, if he
• 52:55
Speaker 1: be almighty, maker of peace and tranquility, and I am
• 52:58
Speaker 1: made in the image of He who created me, then
• 53:02
Speaker 1: in my being it must be known that I am
• 53:04
Speaker 1: the individual creator of my reality. Desires for this awakening
• 53:08
Speaker 1: arouse me from my sleep. So I stand here before you,
• 53:12
Speaker 1: only attempting to speak my peace lessons of life, love
• 53:18
Speaker 1: and mercy. Keep us on our feet, so that when
• 53:21
Speaker 1: we stand, we know in our hearts we stand for something. Amen.
• 53:26
Speaker 10: M I'm thinking, OK, yeah, yeah, so you're analysts.
• 53:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, that is just It's like if I feel like
• 53:53
Speaker 1: when the Bible says that the truth is simple and
• 53:57
Speaker 1: and and the road to Hell is is why, and
• 54:00
Speaker 1: to Heaven is thin, and all these different things that
• 54:07
Speaker 1: keep us in restraints, you know, that keep us pulling
• 54:11
Speaker 1: us down, Like we have to stand for something. We
• 54:15
Speaker 1: have to change our thinking and understand our place in
• 54:22
Speaker 1: the world even being a speck of dust and holding
• 54:29
Speaker 1: things in our hand, and how like my son said
• 54:34
Speaker 1: this to me, and I'm sorry, but he said, imagine
• 54:37
Speaker 1: holding a plate in your hand for an hour, Like
• 54:41
Speaker 1: how long do you think you can hold a plate
• 54:42
Speaker 1: full of food in your hand?
• 54:44
  Speaker 6: You know.
• 54:46
Speaker 1: Your hand, it will fall. You know what I'm saying,
• 54:49
Speaker 1: You're gonna lose strength quick. And we are being held
• 54:52
Speaker 1: in the hands of the Almighty, and he is he
• 54:54
Speaker 1: is constantly with us. So yeah, that's just I wanna,
• 55:04
Speaker 1: even if someone doesn't hear everything I have to say,
• 55:07
Speaker 1: if I can ignite thought in you to look at
• 55:12
Speaker 1: the world a little bit differently or circumstances a little differently,
• 55:16
Speaker 1: like I did with my son. And you know, now
• 55:19
Speaker 1: he's very much in church and in the Bible, and
• 55:22
Speaker 1: I'm not so much. But I believe, you know what
• 55:26
Speaker 1: I mean. And I told him it's not my place
• 55:30
Speaker 1: to pick which way you go. I believe there's truth
• 55:33
Speaker 1: in all levels of thought and religion, and and you
• 55:37
Speaker 1: can find truth in anything. Or if you're looking for
• 55:40
Speaker 1: the ladder, you'll find the ladder too. But whatever you choose,
• 55:44
Speaker 1: don't be hot or cold or sit on the fence
• 55:48
Speaker 1: you're gonna stand stand.
• 55:51
  Speaker 4: That's right.
• 55:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right. And you made me think of a
• 55:56
Speaker 5: poem in my hand, okay or growth? Do you have
• 55:59
  Speaker 5: another one?
• 56:00
  Speaker 6: Yes?
• 56:01
Speaker 7: I do, And so this is the one I was
• 56:04
Speaker 7: talking about. It's entitled Nikki and this is this piece
• 56:12
Speaker 7: is also the theme or signature poem for my business,
• 56:19
Speaker 7: and so it represents the theology and passion that created
• 56:26
Speaker 7: my business, Sculpture Roses Company, And it's also inspired from
• 56:31
Speaker 7: one of my favorite movies, Great Gatsby. If beautiful was
• 56:42
Speaker 7: printed from a negative, it would be the silhouette of
• 56:46
Speaker 7: a rose. Because roses are sculpted from the hands of immortality,
• 56:51
Speaker 7: breathe from the marble no one saw as a flower.
• 56:55
Speaker 7: Every pedal flaunts the gorgeous of galaxies, positively divine. The
• 57:00
Speaker 7: eyes of roses are as ocean deep as.
• 57:06
Speaker 6: The sky is blue.
• 57:08
Speaker 7: They see life the way we're supposed to live. Balance
• 57:14
Speaker 7: in duality, life and death, a marriage with.
• 57:18
Speaker 6: As many anniversaries as time.
• 57:20
Speaker 7: The two need to become one so fear may bloom
• 57:24
  Speaker 7: into confidence.
• 57:25
Speaker 6: A rose might be one of the few things to
• 57:31
Speaker 6: achieve perfection on Earth. The way its attraction reflects the heavens.
• 57:36
Speaker 6: It is just as beautiful.
• 57:39
Speaker 7: And symbolic in death as the climax of its glow.
• 57:43
Speaker 6: The way it smiles ages like the innocence of a
• 57:47
Speaker 6: child until it's aroma becomes the wine from thirty five,
• 57:51
Speaker 6: The way it freezes death into a Picasso Daliesque piece
• 57:56
  Speaker 6: of painted poetry.
• 57:58
Speaker 7: Arose understands the heartbeat of the death and the silence
• 58:05
Speaker 7: of life and humility.
• 58:07
Speaker 6: That's why they are used during and after life. Have
• 58:13
Speaker 6: you ever seen such grace? Command hell? Roses make the.
• 58:20
Speaker 7: Marble soft and the concrete cry and anxiety strong. And
• 58:25
Speaker 7: that's why I say you remind me of a rose
• 58:31
Speaker 7: and absolute rose. You are and can be everything you
• 58:37
  Speaker 7: want to achieve.
• 58:39
Speaker 6: Ps. It's never too late to sculpt your rose.
• 58:45
  Speaker 9: Hm.
• 58:47
  Speaker 4: I love that.
• 58:54
Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you.
• 58:58
Speaker 4: Listening for your take. Come out, run it.
• 59:03
Speaker 6: I think so Sculpted Roses Company.
• 59:08
Speaker 7: When I came up with the name, I was very
• 59:10
Speaker 7: much attracted to the idea of uh rose booming from
• 59:16
Speaker 7: the concrete. And now, in order to grow, you have
• 59:20
Speaker 7: to start where you're planted. I think a lot of
• 59:25
Speaker 7: the times we all get caught up in the comparison
• 59:28
Speaker 7: trap of looking around everything else and what's going on
• 59:32
Speaker 7: and we try to grow by taking different pieces of
• 59:37
Speaker 7: everybody else that we like and add it to us.
• 59:39
Speaker 7: But that doesn't work, and if it does work, it
• 59:43
Speaker 7: doesn't it's not a permanent or long lasting fix.
• 59:48
Speaker 6: And so the idea behind Sculpted Roses Company is to
• 59:53
  Speaker 6: bloom where you're.
• 59:54
Speaker 7: Planted, recognize who you are with the reality of.
• 59:59
Speaker 6: Your weaknesses as well as your strengths, and.
• 1:00:04
Speaker 7: Challenging yourself by asking the hard questions and just taking
• 1:00:09
Speaker 7: it one step of the time and growing and molding
• 1:00:13
Speaker 7: that that marble, that concrete into something beautiful and knowing
• 1:00:19
Speaker 7: that you can do it.
• 1:00:22
  Speaker 5: Right.
• 1:00:22
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 1:00:23
Speaker 6: That's just all that was behind that poem.
• 1:00:28
  Speaker 4: I love it.
• 1:00:32
  Speaker 6: I love it.
• 1:00:32
  Speaker 4: I love it.
• 1:00:34
Speaker 5: If you guys could tell your current projects and where
• 1:00:38

• 1:00:43
Speaker 1: So yay, I just got into my Instagram again.

• 1:00:55
Speaker 1: accepted it was gone forever. But you can find me

• 1:01:15
Speaker 1: in the process of doing. I got a couple done
• 1:01:18
Speaker 1: and recorded, so it'll be an audiobook along with a
• 1:01:22
Speaker 1: paperback book coming out soon once editing and recording is done,
• 1:01:28
Speaker 1: so you can look for that towards the winter of
• 1:01:31
Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. And yeah, Phoenix Sapphire eight eight eight.

Speaker 7: is an ebook and you can purchase it on my website.
• 1:02:09
Speaker 6: It's only five dollars.
• 1:02:11
Speaker 7: I wanted to have something that was readily accessible for
• 1:02:15
Speaker 7: any and everyone, and something that's cheap and affordable, but
• 1:02:20
Speaker 7: also gives you a little bit of a taste of
• 1:02:24
Speaker 7: who I am as a poet in the different genres
• 1:02:28
Speaker 7: or themes I talk about. And so that's how that
• 1:02:31
Speaker 7: kind of came about. And current projects, I am writing
• 1:02:38
Speaker 7: a creative writing curriculum and I'm also finishing up a
• 1:02:44
Speaker 7: chat book which is going to be part of a
• 1:02:47
Speaker 7: bigger series of a huge poetry poetry collection that I'm very,
• 1:02:55
Speaker 7: very very excited about. I have a lot of big
• 1:02:57
Speaker 7: things coming this chat book, starting with this chat book,
• 1:03:01
Speaker 7: and it's going to be released towards the end of
• 1:03:04
  Speaker 7: this year.
• 1:03:06
Speaker 6: So just stay tuned for that, because there's a.
• 1:03:09
Speaker 7: Lot of very cool things that haven't been done within
• 1:03:14
Speaker 7: the poetry world yet that I'm going to introduce, and
• 1:03:18
  Speaker 7: so it's cool.
• 1:03:19
  Speaker 6: I'm excited.
• 1:03:29
Speaker 7: I am going to try and market it on my
• 1:03:31
Speaker 7: calendar and so as long as nothing else comes up,
• 1:03:35
Speaker 7: I will be there.
• 1:03:36
Speaker 4: But as because I probably i'll see you at.
• 1:04:01
Speaker 5: When is it April the eighth for open Mic?
• 1:04:05
Speaker 7: Yes, I'm featuring at the Doc Bookshop on April eighth.
• 1:04:11
Speaker 4: You hear that, Phoenix. I've been trying to get you.
• 1:04:13
Speaker 1: The guys supposed to go to Docs and I go
• 1:04:16
Speaker 1: there constantly because that's the only place that I give
• 1:04:18
Speaker 1: my perfume in my stage and I have not performed there,
• 1:04:22
Speaker 1: but I know you've been telling me. I'm gonna get
• 1:04:25
  Speaker 1: over there.
• 1:04:26
  Speaker 5: It's they're getting a free shout out. It's every Tuesday
• 1:04:29
  Speaker 5: night open MIC's I'm gon'aclock to him. If you're in
• 1:04:32
Speaker 5: the DFW area, the doc book Shop, and they sponsored
• 1:04:38
Speaker 5: AAA L A C. Last year when they came to
• 1:04:42
Speaker 5: town with Queen Angela Angela, are you still around?
• 1:04:51
  Speaker 4: Okay?
• 1:04:52
Speaker 8: Are you ready to turn? Let's say, are you ready
• 1:05:03
Speaker 8: to turn? I said, are you ready to turn?
• 1:05:07
  Speaker 7: Yeah?
• 1:05:12
Speaker 9: H yeah, I think he said we had two more people, right,
• 1:05:20
Speaker 9: Oh oh no, well we were gonna.
• 1:05:27
Speaker 4: I don't know who would have came. Oh no, ma'am.
• 1:05:30
Speaker 3: Well, ma'am, well, I'm gonna continue with my with my.
• 1:05:44
Speaker 4: Oh oh really, Oh no, ma'am, I'm gonna continue with my.
• 1:05:59
Speaker 6: H okay, Oh are they?
• 1:06:04
Speaker 4: Are they on the poets on Instagram? Are they?
• 1:06:08
Speaker 6: They're not They're not poets, They're just friends of mine.
• 1:06:12
Speaker 5: Oh okay, well we will continue on. Sorry people, whoa,
• 1:06:16
Speaker 5: this is the Verst Show. So we don't continue with
• 1:06:19
Speaker 5: our post poetry with miss Phoenix Sapphire and with Roses.
• 1:06:24
Speaker 5: If they still want to stay, we just have a
• 1:06:28
Speaker 5: uh the home stretch going through because I am enjoying
• 1:06:31
Speaker 5: the poetry. Okay, well we're continuing. So I'm sorry, Miss Angela,
• 1:06:40
Speaker 5: so so with your last.
• 1:06:43
Speaker 4: And I'm pointing sorry uh on.
• 1:06:49
Speaker 5: Roses Phoenix, I normally don't do my Devil's Reflection as
• 1:06:54
Speaker 5: a poem that I wrote. And when I heard your
• 1:06:57
Speaker 5: poem of Phoenix and what you were talking about, you know,
• 1:07:03
Speaker 5: with the Almighty always being in our life, I have
• 1:07:05
  Speaker 5: a poem that I wrote a called Devil's Reflection that
• 1:07:09
Speaker 5: I like to share with everybody. If it's okay, okay,
• 1:07:15
Speaker 5: it's the devil's reflection is always in your eyes? Who
• 1:07:20
Speaker 5: is it that you despise? Fix what inside? Make yourself whole.
• 1:07:26
Speaker 5: Don't let the devil own your soul. See, the devil
• 1:07:30
Speaker 5: is tricky. Remember he was God's right hand man. He
• 1:07:34
Speaker 5: loved playing and protected God until he fell. He fell
• 1:07:40
Speaker 5: long and hard from grace. He lost his place. So
• 1:07:44
Speaker 5: now he tries to own anyone who will open up
• 1:07:47
Speaker 5: and beyond a lost soul, desperately seeking someone in a
• 1:07:52
Speaker 5: plight that can be undone, steady falling, and he's calling
• 1:07:57
Speaker 5: to you. Get him out of your soul. Make yourself whole.
• 1:08:02
Speaker 5: You still have time to reconcile and rise. Leave that
• 1:08:06
  Speaker 5: devil behind.
• 1:08:08
  Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
• 1:08:13
Speaker 3: So, so I know we've just talked about open mic.
• 1:08:18
Speaker 5: So when you guys go to open my can and
• 1:08:20
Speaker 5: do any of you like to perform with music or
• 1:08:23
Speaker 5: any other kind of media.
• 1:08:27
Speaker 1: I write to music, so yes, because when I have
• 1:08:32
Speaker 1: the music behind me, I say it different. And the
• 1:08:35
Speaker 1: music helps me because I be Russian, and that's when
• 1:08:39
Speaker 1: you gotta be trying to you know, you go so no,
• 1:08:45
Speaker 1: but the music helps me to uh stay on point
• 1:08:49
Speaker 1: with it. And it also crescendos and flows different with
• 1:08:55
  Speaker 1: the music.
• 1:08:55
Speaker 4: Behind it, right right.
• 1:08:59
  Speaker 1: Right of a.
• 1:09:00
Speaker 4: Poem that I probably did with music before we get off.
• 1:09:06
Speaker 4: I agree with you.
• 1:09:07
Speaker 5: The music puts me in a different space. It helps
• 1:09:11
Speaker 5: me because I like to karaoke. Anybody who knows me,
• 1:09:15
Speaker 5: I like to karaoke, so that that that helps me.
• 1:09:19
Speaker 5: That actually helps me memorize my poems or or feel
• 1:09:23
Speaker 5: more confident perform them, because I because what is poetry.
• 1:09:26
Speaker 5: Poetry are lyrics and your poem can be a song.
• 1:09:33
Speaker 5: So that's that's what helps me, you Roses.
• 1:09:39
Speaker 6: I love to write to music. I write to music
• 1:09:41
  Speaker 6: all the time.
• 1:09:42
Speaker 7: I have not performed with music, and to be honest,
• 1:09:48
  Speaker 7: it's very nerve wrapping for me because I can't. I
• 1:09:53
Speaker 7: feel like I'm basically the opposite of Phoenix. It doesn't
• 1:09:56
Speaker 7: calm me down, it makes me more anxious. I feel
• 1:09:59
Speaker 7: like the music and the beat. If I misstep or
• 1:10:06
Speaker 7: need to freestyle somewhere in the performance, then it throws
• 1:10:10
Speaker 7: everything else off of the music.
• 1:10:11
Speaker 6: And in my head, I'm like, oh no, I don't
• 1:10:14
  Speaker 6: know what to do now. I don't. I haven't learned
• 1:10:17
Speaker 6: how to just freestyle with music yet, and so.
• 1:10:20
Speaker 1: Neither I can't freestyle, not at all, not at all.
• 1:10:25
Speaker 1: But I'm beat down, so I can't hear the beat, right,
• 1:10:28
Speaker 1: I just speak on the beat, if that makes sense.
• 1:10:33
  Speaker 4: I can.
• 1:10:35
Speaker 5: Like when I'm looking for a song to go with
• 1:10:39
  Speaker 5: with my poem.
• 1:10:40
Speaker 4: I listen to the music.
• 1:10:41
Speaker 5: I listen to it, and then I'll stand up and
• 1:10:44
Speaker 5: I'll speak the poem.
• 1:10:47
  Speaker 4: And that's that's how I guess.
• 1:10:49
Speaker 5: Like I said, it's like karaoke coaching, right, I learn
• 1:10:54
Speaker 5: it and then sometimes I can hear music in it
• 1:10:57
Speaker 5: sparked me to write poem.
• 1:11:00
  Speaker 4: I'm in.
• 1:11:02
  Speaker 5: I have a friend that's a she's a musical therapy coach,
• 1:11:06
Speaker 5: and so she she teaches about the different.
• 1:11:10
  Speaker 4: The music.
• 1:11:12
Speaker 5: I don't want to mess it up the music tones,
• 1:11:14
Speaker 5: like different tones can can make inspire you to write.
• 1:11:18
Speaker 5: And I'll listen to her playlist and different you know,
• 1:11:21
Speaker 5: cause music does like alter your mood.
• 1:11:25
  Speaker 10: Right yeah, and.
• 1:11:27
Speaker 5: And so I'll listen to her playlist and they helped
• 1:11:32
Speaker 5: me to write and be more free and be more upbeat,
• 1:11:35
Speaker 5: because if I listen to something sad and I'm trying
• 1:11:38
Speaker 5: to write, of course my my little poem, my poem
• 1:11:40
Speaker 5: is gonna be all yeah gloom doom.
• 1:11:47
  Speaker 6: Music.
• 1:11:48
Speaker 1: For that reason, like today was a day I did
• 1:11:50
Speaker 1: not listen to any music. I started the morning with
• 1:11:54
Speaker 1: a couple of books, like it was like a book,
• 1:11:57
Speaker 1: and then it was like a little podcast type thing
• 1:11:59
  Speaker 1: speaking about consciousness.
• 1:12:01
  Speaker 4: And then I've I do.
• 1:12:02
Speaker 1: Like research work analyst, so I'll put on binaral beats
• 1:12:07
Speaker 1: while I work, and it has increased my productivity so
• 1:12:13
Speaker 1: much because I do commission work, so really what I
• 1:12:16
Speaker 1: put in I get out, but my focus with the
• 1:12:19
Speaker 1: binural beats. So on point, I would suggest everybody do
• 1:12:25
Speaker 1: some binural beats like the instrumentals cool for writing poetry,
• 1:12:29
Speaker 1: but understanding the hurts that you're listening to and what
• 1:12:33
Speaker 1: goes into the music and that's why the song will
• 1:12:36
Speaker 1: make you sad or happy or make you want to
• 1:12:39
Speaker 1: go get drunk or whatever. Right, that's what go ahead,
• 1:12:46
Speaker 1: all right, No, I'm sorry, go ahead, No, I was
• 1:12:49
Speaker 1: just gonna say. They purposely do that to flow your
• 1:12:54
Speaker 1: mind in a certain put you in a certain feeling or.
• 1:12:59
Speaker 4: By rather, I've heard that weary before.
• 1:13:05
Speaker 5: They're like when you're out shopping, right, and you hear
• 1:13:07
Speaker 5: all the upbeat music, so you keep shopping and spending
• 1:13:11
Speaker 5: your money because you're feeling good, and then you get home,
• 1:13:13
Speaker 5: you like you have shoppers remorse, right, But what can
• 1:13:17
Speaker 5: you say at the Bible?
• 1:13:19
Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am, go ahead, I'm sorry I talked too much.
• 1:13:24
Speaker 4: Oh you're the guest here.
• 1:13:27
Speaker 1: No, I just know what you're to say that. That's
• 1:13:30
Speaker 1: why when you go to the club, the music is
• 1:13:33
Speaker 1: purposely loud because playing those types of tones at that
• 1:13:39
Speaker 1: volume will make you drink faster. Literally look it up
• 1:13:44
Speaker 1: like and it's literally all a game that the whoever
• 1:13:50
Speaker 1: are playing with us, that we do have to be
• 1:13:52
Speaker 1: conscious of what we feed ourselves, the same you put vegetables,
• 1:13:56
Speaker 1: you know, eat vegetables. Like here's even more important than
• 1:14:01
  Speaker 1: you're telling me.
• 1:14:05
Speaker 5: Mm hmmm, No, I've okay, don't judge me. I've written
• 1:14:09
Speaker 5: a poem when I've when i've been might have had
• 1:14:13
Speaker 5: a sip or two, and then I'll read it and
• 1:14:16
Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, that's a whole total different vibe from
• 1:14:20
Speaker 5: but it means something because at that point, at this
• 1:14:23
Speaker 5: state of mind that I was in, that's what I meant,
• 1:14:25
Speaker 5: and that's what I wrote, you know, And usually it's
• 1:14:29
Speaker 5: an empowering poem. But I have written this, you know,
• 1:14:34
Speaker 5: just in different stages of emotion.
• 1:14:38
Speaker 4: Put it like that. Yeah, mm hmm. And I find
• 1:14:43
  Speaker 4: that when.
• 1:14:44
Speaker 5: I go back and look at the poetry, it's like, oh, yeah,
• 1:14:49
Speaker 5: it was sticking my thoughts to a tea.
• 1:14:58
Speaker 4: Anybody want to round three?
• 1:15:00
Speaker 6: Before we go off?
• 1:15:03
  Speaker 1: Round round three?
• 1:15:06
  Speaker 4: Find them around.
• 1:15:07
Speaker 5: What they called finish finisher finish the like world of combat.
• 1:15:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, and so we're talking about me, I'm gonna do
• 1:15:21
Speaker 4: mine with music, just so y'all know.
• 1:15:23
Speaker 1: Okay, you want to go first, hear me?
• 1:15:28
  Speaker 4: Okay, let's see.
• 1:15:30
Speaker 5: And actually i'm the genre that I like, romance, and
• 1:15:36
Speaker 5: it's called let me see if I find the music
• 1:15:39
Speaker 5: real quick. You you, let's see, let's see if I
• 1:15:45
Speaker 5: can find the music real quick.
• 1:15:59
  Speaker 4: I don't know if I.
• 1:16:15
Speaker 5: See. You said you loved me, but you lied. You
• 1:16:21
Speaker 5: broke my heart and you left me to cry. You
• 1:16:25
Speaker 5: took away the light from my eyes.
• 1:16:28
Speaker 4: You left me in the dark, alone and cold.
• 1:16:32
Speaker 5: See you said you needed me, but you did it.
• 1:16:36
Speaker 5: You found someone else and you forgot me. You threw
• 1:16:40
Speaker 5: away the memories we made. You left me in the
• 1:16:46
Speaker 5: past and wanted and cold. See you said you wanted me,
• 1:16:51
Speaker 5: but you changed, You changed your mind. You gave up
• 1:16:55
Speaker 5: on us, and you let me go. You ignored the
• 1:17:00
Speaker 5: promises we swore. You loved me in the dust, broken
• 1:17:05
Speaker 5: and cold. See you said you loved me, but you lie,
• 1:17:12
Speaker 5: and you broke my heart and you left me to cry.
• 1:17:15
Speaker 5: You took away the light, the light that was in
• 1:17:18
Speaker 5: my eyes. You left me in the dark, alone and cold.
• 1:17:23
Speaker 5: You loft a hole in my soul.
• 1:17:27
Speaker 4: But see, but see, when you did this, you made
• 1:17:30
Speaker 4: me grow. You made me.
• 1:17:33
Speaker 5: Realize that love isn't dependent on one person.
• 1:17:38
  Speaker 4: It takes two.
• 1:17:39
Speaker 5: So I healed, understanding the revelation, I survived. I found
• 1:17:46
Speaker 5: someone who brought that life back to my eyes. He
• 1:17:50
Speaker 5: loves me to life, Yes, to life. L I f
• 1:17:57
  Speaker 5: e life.
• 1:17:58
  Speaker 4: See.
• 1:18:00
Speaker 5: See, if you wouldn't have filled me with sorrow, I
• 1:18:03
Speaker 5: would no joy. So thank you for saying you loved
• 1:18:07
Speaker 5: me when you didn't. Thank you for breaking my heart.
• 1:18:12
Speaker 5: This gave me a brand new star. See, you opened
• 1:18:16
Speaker 5: the door to my future, so now I can close
• 1:18:20
Speaker 5: the door on you my past. See thank you, because
• 1:18:25
Speaker 5: I'm no longer in the dark, alone and cold. Baby,
• 1:18:30
  Speaker 5: I'm whole, I'm new, I'm revived, I'm loved, I'm celebrating.
• 1:18:34
Speaker 5: I'm hold and just like the phoenix from the ashes,
• 1:18:39
  Speaker 5: I rose.
• 1:18:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my poem, you and so I make
• 1:18:47
  Speaker 4: y'all analyzed.
• 1:18:49
Speaker 5: That was at the point when I realized that I
• 1:18:51
Speaker 5: was healed and I was whole. And sometimes you have
• 1:18:55
Speaker 5: to go through lessons because you wouldn't know true love.
• 1:19:00
Speaker 5: If you know, I know true love because I experienced
• 1:19:04
Speaker 5: something that wasn't love.
• 1:19:07
Speaker 1: So I love right.
• 1:19:09
Speaker 5: So when you when you grow and you heal, you
• 1:19:11
Speaker 5: know you deal break because you know what you want
• 1:19:13
Speaker 5: what you don't And that's what that poem came from.
• 1:19:17
Speaker 4: But I'm a phoenix. I rose from the ashes.
• 1:19:21
Speaker 1: You know you they go out of there with the
• 1:19:23
Speaker 1: red flags once you heal.
• 1:19:26
Speaker 5: I love that poem, but that's that's my poem that
• 1:19:31
  Speaker 5: I like to I have a couple that I like
• 1:19:33
Speaker 5: to perform to music so.
• 1:19:36
Speaker 4: That one I can feel it.
• 1:19:38
Speaker 5: The first time I tried to perform and I cried
• 1:19:41
  Speaker 5: the second time.
• 1:19:42
Speaker 4: I cried because that's the beauty of poetry.
• 1:19:46
Speaker 5: Right now, I'm excited because if it doesn't evoke emotions
• 1:19:51
Speaker 5: from you, the poet, does it.
• 1:19:53
Speaker 4: Really mean anything to you?
• 1:19:55
  Speaker 1: True?
• 1:19:56
Speaker 5: Right, it should evoke some type of feelings, type of emotion.
• 1:20:02
Speaker 5: And I like to see you when I perform, when
• 1:20:05
Speaker 5: people are snapping or I see that I had connected.
• 1:20:08
Speaker 4: So anyhow I'm next.
• 1:20:13
Speaker 1: Just don't look at me in the eyes when I'm performing.
• 1:20:16
Speaker 1: I've learned how you got to look at people, but
• 1:20:17
Speaker 1: look past them, because you know, don't look through me.
• 1:20:23
Speaker 5: I debate, teacher, I gotta go back to the hog school, said,
• 1:20:27
  Speaker 5: imagine everybody naked.
• 1:20:29
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not gonna help me. That's just gonna distracted anyway.
• 1:20:34
Speaker 5: What it helps, it helps me, But I won't look.
• 1:20:41
Speaker 1: You in the eyes, turn away from I can't even
• 1:20:44
Speaker 1: barely see so on this because I haven't used my
• 1:20:47
Speaker 1: computer set up in a minute. Okay, this one is
• 1:20:55
Speaker 1: entitled ghost Ghost haunting my mind and possessing my energy,
• 1:21:06
Speaker 1: the constant draining of power that every hour I feel
• 1:21:10
Speaker 1: myself drifting, moving me further away from source, coming to
• 1:21:16
Speaker 1: this place, I no longer feel my cries or being heard.
• 1:21:22
Speaker 1: Let me be still, Let me feel that this is real,
• 1:21:26
Speaker 1: For in this moment in time, I find that even
• 1:21:28
Speaker 1: if the world be overwhelmed with lies, I love life.
• 1:21:34
  Speaker 4: Ghosts.
• 1:21:35
Speaker 1: They come and they go, taking all that they will
• 1:21:39
Speaker 1: from the one still longing to give, knowing not the
• 1:21:43
Speaker 1: scars they leave on heart. See, I sacrificed, and I
• 1:21:46
Speaker 1: took the loss. So you may call me a fool
• 1:21:49
Speaker 1: because I did what you would not do, loved when
• 1:21:53
Speaker 1: I didn't have reason, tried again although I had already,
• 1:21:58
Speaker 1: And she may recite Scripture to me as a reminder
• 1:22:00
Speaker 1: of how many times I am obligated to forgive, or
• 1:22:04
Speaker 1: tell me the stories of how Jesus was crucified by
• 1:22:06
Speaker 1: his own people, and that I too would serve as example. No,
• 1:22:12
Speaker 1: let me be still, let me feel that this is real,
• 1:22:16
Speaker 1: For in this moment in time, I find that, even
• 1:22:19
Speaker 1: if the world be overwhelmed with lies, I love life,
• 1:22:24
Speaker 1: ghost presenting confusion, truth, fact and fiction left undecided because
• 1:22:31
Speaker 1: what lies within the delight ghost presenting confusion interlaced with truth,
• 1:22:41
Speaker 1: fact and fiction left undecided, because what lies within the
• 1:22:45
Speaker 1: desires of our leaders is that we may be easily defeated.
• 1:22:49
Speaker 1: Possibly I should not even fix my lips to speak
• 1:22:52
Speaker 1: on the subject. And surely there are certain topics left
• 1:22:55
Speaker 1: out of daily discussions. So let me be still, let
• 1:23:00
Speaker 1: me feel that this is real, for in this moment
• 1:23:03
Speaker 1: in time, I find that even if the world be
• 1:23:05
Speaker 1: overwhelmed by lies, I love life ghosts.
• 1:23:15
Speaker 4: Now you know the rule?
• 1:23:18
Speaker 1: Oh you hear why I got? You know, I was
• 1:23:25
Speaker 1: married for I was married for thirteen years. I was
• 1:23:28
Speaker 1: abused and trying to heal myself from everything that was
• 1:23:33
Speaker 1: taught to me from fourteen to twenty eight by a
• 1:23:37
Speaker 1: man who can't, you know, really teach me anything. But
• 1:23:42
Speaker 1: all these strongholds that I had to break in the
• 1:23:45
Speaker 1: Bible telling me that I'm supposed to forgive and forgive
• 1:23:48
  Speaker 1: and forgive.
• 1:23:49
Speaker 4: And that kept me.
• 1:23:50
Speaker 1: There, right, you know, But I mean, what's.
• 1:24:01
Speaker 4: So? It's like? And then it haunts you?
• 1:24:03
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, because no matter how successful,
• 1:24:08
Speaker 1: Now I'm a single mom. Now I got all these
• 1:24:10
Speaker 1: kids and all these things and perceptions that people want
• 1:24:13
Speaker 1: to look at me like, well, go back to your husband,
• 1:24:16
Speaker 1: or do this or do that. I have to make
• 1:24:21
Speaker 1: the choice, and I see at all avenues it was
• 1:24:26
Speaker 1: taught to me to get a family and have this
• 1:24:28
Speaker 1: and have that so that I can be what seeing
• 1:24:32
Speaker 1: in a certain light. Right, But the picture on the
• 1:24:35
Speaker 1: outside looked really pretty, how cars, trips all of that.
• 1:24:41
Speaker 1: You know, it can look really pretty, But that doesn't
• 1:24:44
Speaker 1: mean like underneath, I was dying. Underneath, I was you know,
• 1:24:53
Speaker 1: suffocating to point of being non responsive to where my
• 1:24:58
Speaker 1: kids see me now and they're.
• 1:25:01
  Speaker 4: To them.
• 1:25:02
Speaker 1: Then I was in so much depression that seeing me
• 1:25:07
Speaker 1: still and I admit I'm adhd so I'll focus on
• 1:25:12
Speaker 1: this and like right now, it's been work in poetry
• 1:25:15
Speaker 1: and events and different things to keep me busy. But
• 1:25:22
Speaker 1: finding myself in my dream and operating out of survival
• 1:25:27
Speaker 1: mode is like those ghosts are still there. That's still
• 1:25:31
Speaker 1: a part of my past. But had I not went
• 1:25:35
Speaker 1: through that, I would not have found the books that
• 1:25:39
  Speaker 1: I've read. I wouldn't have found I wouldn't have gotten
• 1:25:42
Speaker 1: so deep in it that I had to dig myself
• 1:25:46
Speaker 1: out and I had to find the strength to do
• 1:25:49
Speaker 1: it through those things that have ignited my consciousness to
• 1:25:53
Speaker 1: where I have an abundance of peace. But the damn
• 1:25:57
  Speaker 1: ghosts still there.
• 1:26:00
Speaker 4: You know, mm, But it's nothing like I hate to
• 1:26:06
Speaker 4: say that I identify with.
• 1:26:07
Speaker 5: Everything, going through a divorce and being yeah, going through
• 1:26:12
Speaker 5: a twenty one year marriage and you put up with
• 1:26:16
Speaker 5: things and when you finally find your voice and your
• 1:26:19
Speaker 5: piece is nothing like it. And I'm proud of you
• 1:26:22
Speaker 5: that you expressed that. Like I say, you give voice,
• 1:26:26
Speaker 5: and you touched me because I never thought to call
• 1:26:30
  Speaker 5: it a ghost. I had a point. I have a
• 1:26:35
Speaker 5: poem that I have called hollow, and that was kind
• 1:26:38
Speaker 5: of like at my lowest point, right, kind of like
• 1:26:41
Speaker 5: your ghost. And you had to do what's best for
• 1:26:45
Speaker 5: you at one point in time, right, and let it out.
• 1:26:49
Speaker 5: And you can't be infatuated with society because I always
• 1:26:53
Speaker 5: feel like, now that I'm here, I'm like, if you
• 1:26:55
Speaker 5: think it was so good, you go live that life.
• 1:26:58
Speaker 5: I saw something someone said, Hey, somebody think they're living
• 1:27:02
Speaker 5: your dream, but her dream is going to turn into
• 1:27:06
Speaker 5: her to your nightmare.
• 1:27:07
Speaker 1: Because God released you from that, Yes he did, and
• 1:27:11
Speaker 1: man I had to. And I have a poem about
• 1:27:13
Speaker 1: that too. I remember when I would scream out to
• 1:27:16
Speaker 1: the Almighty to save me and be there for me,
• 1:27:18
Speaker 1: and why and why? And I remember when Almighty was
• 1:27:22
Speaker 1: like I've been here with you. That's Breathe came from that,
• 1:27:25
Speaker 1: breathing life into you while you continue to make your
• 1:27:29
Speaker 1: same choice. And I was the one who chose to stay.
• 1:27:32
Speaker 1: I was the one who you know every time, and
• 1:27:35
Speaker 1: whatever choice I've made, I made it, and Almighty has
• 1:27:38
Speaker 1: been there for me through it all, loving me abundantly
• 1:27:43
Speaker 1: and my I'm so thankful for where I am.
• 1:27:49
  Speaker 5: Yes, and I'm glad you're around that. That's what we're
• 1:27:52
  Speaker 5: here for.
• 1:27:53
Speaker 4: That's what the poetry is forward. It is giving you
• 1:27:57
  Speaker 4: a voice.
• 1:27:58
Speaker 5: And you won't believe how many other people men and
• 1:28:02
Speaker 5: women can connect to that. That's that's how my book
• 1:28:04
Speaker 5: became the best seller because all I talked about I
• 1:28:08
Speaker 5: went through a divorce and healed.
• 1:28:11
Speaker 4: And that's where Phoenix Heart came from. Okay, we're not.
• 1:28:16
Speaker 5: Man bashing, so mister Roses, everybody shut out, no, but
• 1:28:26
Speaker 5: but that's it. That's that experience.
• 1:28:27
Speaker 4: Can go for a male or for.
• 1:28:32
Speaker 5: Or for a woman, because men get trapped in bad situations.
• 1:28:36
Speaker 4: Men get abused, whether they talk about it or not,
• 1:28:38
Speaker 4: Men get used to right. Okay, that's you.
• 1:28:45
Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I'm right there with you.
• 1:28:48
Speaker 7: I went through a divorce and that was a part
• 1:28:52
Speaker 7: of my journey and my growth and how it's a
• 1:28:56
Speaker 7: real It was a real tough uh two years where
• 1:29:01
Speaker 7: I had to kind of like because I requested the
• 1:29:06
Speaker 7: divorce and I basically just started all over from everything.
• 1:29:10
Speaker 7: And I think the toughest part for me through it
• 1:29:15
Speaker 7: was my son, who's my stepson, I call my son,
• 1:29:21
Speaker 7: but he was I've known him since he was seven
• 1:29:26
Speaker 7: and he's sixteen now, and so when me and his
• 1:29:33
  Speaker 7: mom separated, it.
• 1:29:36
Speaker 6: Really affected him a lot too.
• 1:29:38
Speaker 7: And he doesn't know his real dad at all, so
• 1:29:40
Speaker 7: I was the only kind of father figure in his life.
• 1:29:43
Speaker 7: And so that was the hardest part for me because
• 1:29:46
Speaker 7: I felt like I was just doing the same thing
• 1:29:50
Speaker 7: his dad did, and I knew it was going to
• 1:29:53
Speaker 7: be tough on him, but.
• 1:29:54
Speaker 6: I was also trying.
• 1:29:56
Speaker 7: I made the decision based on what I thought was
• 1:30:01
Speaker 7: going to be best for not just me, but for
• 1:30:04
Speaker 7: him and everyone as a whole, because the the circles
• 1:30:10
Speaker 7: and the patterns that we were going with were very unhealthy.
• 1:30:13
Speaker 7: And to be honest, I don't know, uh if I
• 1:30:18
  Speaker 7: would have been.
• 1:30:18
Speaker 6: Here much longer if I continued in that same pattern.
• 1:30:21
  Speaker 6: And so.
• 1:30:23
Speaker 4: I've been there too.
• 1:30:26
Speaker 6: Yeah, I can I can hear. I can hear all
• 1:30:28
Speaker 6: of that with you. So, since we've been talking about
• 1:30:31
  Speaker 6: all this.
• 1:30:34
Speaker 5: The poetry giving us the voice to put it out right.
• 1:30:40
  Speaker 1: I have.
• 1:30:43
Speaker 7: I have a poem that I wrote for my son
• 1:30:46
Speaker 7: kind of about this, uh uh. And then I also
• 1:30:50
Speaker 7: have another one okay, kind of about mental health called
• 1:30:54
Speaker 7: Shadows in the Mirror, which why would y'all like.
• 1:30:59
  Speaker 6: To hear.
• 1:31:01
Speaker 4: Both? Pho, Phoenix can pick which one we're going to
• 1:31:07
  Speaker 4: hear firstror? Definitely.
• 1:31:10
Speaker 1: I just like the way that that sounds, because people
• 1:31:13
Speaker 1: be afraid of mirrors, you know, like, don't have mirrors
• 1:31:16
Speaker 1: in your room and stuff put them all around me.
• 1:31:20
Speaker 4: I never thought about that, Phoenix. Okay, sorry, it's.
• 1:31:25
Speaker 6: Very true, very true.
• 1:31:26
Speaker 7: So this this is one of my mental health pieces,
• 1:31:29
  Speaker 7: and it comes.
• 1:31:30
Speaker 6: From one of my darker times going through depression.
• 1:31:42
Speaker 7: Have I have really been working on myself or did
• 1:31:46
Speaker 7: I just change from my work clothes to something more comfortable?
• 1:31:51
Speaker 7: Is this depression or is it just the pigment of
• 1:31:54
Speaker 7: my skin? Can I had defeat you, detached from you?
• 1:31:59
Speaker 7: Or or are you so fingerprinted to my thoughts that
• 1:32:04
Speaker 7: I simply keep running away from me?
• 1:32:07
Speaker 6: Sometimes I wish I could just escape me.
• 1:32:10
Speaker 7: Myself wears a mask, and I am tired of getting
• 1:32:14
Speaker 7: dressed up just to feel down.
• 1:32:15
Speaker 6: I'm black, said my mind.
• 1:32:20
Speaker 7: I live in the shadows of sadness, watching the sunlight
• 1:32:24
Speaker 7: from a distance. If only the heat from the sun's
• 1:32:27
Speaker 7: smile would kiss me, maybe it would melt away my sadness.
• 1:32:31
Speaker 7: I'm black, said my words, followed by you're different. They
• 1:32:37
Speaker 7: won't accept you. You don't fit in. I'm black, says
• 1:32:41
Speaker 7: the mirror, looking at a reflection of depression. I get
• 1:32:45
Speaker 7: so lost in my waning emotions. My waxing moon can
• 1:32:49
Speaker 7: barely breathe. It's so cold that even the rays of
• 1:32:54
Speaker 7: light feels sad. I'm black, I'm depressed. Black, I'm oppressed.
• 1:33:02
Speaker 7: I'm black. I'm obsessed with the idea of my feelings
• 1:33:07
Speaker 7: living on equal ground. I'm black. I'm depressed. The two
• 1:33:14
Speaker 7: interchange while beginning to sound the same, so much so
• 1:33:18
Speaker 7: I took depression's last name. When I look at me,
• 1:33:22
Speaker 7: I see one broken piece. I can't find the rest
• 1:33:26
Speaker 7: of the lyrics to my song. Maybe it's because the
• 1:33:29
Speaker 7: writer will never finish it. Maybe it's because I didn't
• 1:33:33
Speaker 7: cry enough to water my heart. I'm black, I'm dirt.
• 1:33:37
Speaker 7: But my soul is it's dying, and this soil is
• 1:33:45
Speaker 7: killing the last remaining rose. I am a rose with
• 1:33:50
Speaker 7: bloody red regrets for pedals. I put my failures on
• 1:33:54
  Speaker 7: a Pedalestalol.
• 1:33:55
  Speaker 6: I'm so lost.
• 1:33:58
Speaker 7: Every time I tried to look up and got me nowhere,
• 1:34:01
Speaker 7: I'm so lost. I keep letting the gray line give
• 1:34:05
Speaker 7: me directions because there's a thin line between joy and happiness,
• 1:34:10
Speaker 7: and in the middle is pity. Where you can find me.
• 1:34:14
  Speaker 6: I'm black.
• 1:34:16
Speaker 7: So they think I stole these five minutes of happiness,
• 1:34:19
Speaker 7: and so what if I did. Everyone deserves fifteen minutes
• 1:34:24
Speaker 7: of fame and minds is coming soon.
• 1:34:26
Speaker 6: But right now I just want to smile and.
• 1:34:29
Speaker 7: Actually feel the laughter hold me instead of the facade
• 1:34:32
Speaker 7: that hugs me like a long embrace. This morning I
• 1:34:36
Speaker 7: stopped running and I looked depression in the face.
• 1:34:42
Speaker 6: My mind is not yours. It's the lores ps. Let
• 1:34:49
  Speaker 6: the battle again.
• 1:34:54
Speaker 4: To wipe the two.
• 1:34:56
Speaker 1: I love that me too.
• 1:35:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, I like that.
• 1:35:04
Speaker 1: You said a few things in there. I was trying
• 1:35:07
Speaker 1: to go back what you said about the sun, and
• 1:35:10
Speaker 1: then you said, put put your failures on a pedestal
• 1:35:16
Speaker 1: Like that cuts deep. That really does, because we learn
• 1:35:21
Speaker 1: a lot more from our mistakes. Right, they stay with
• 1:35:25
Speaker 1: us longer. Right, Wow, I love that.
• 1:35:32
Speaker 4: It's like your ghosts combine it. That's a ghost like you.
• 1:35:39
Speaker 6: It really is. And just like.
• 1:35:43
Speaker 7: I think, the biggest thing I learned through just the
• 1:35:47
Speaker 7: process of the divorce is not trying to run away
• 1:35:51
Speaker 7: from our reflection and accept who I was and the
• 1:35:58
Speaker 7: things that I didn't like or the weaknesses, asking myself.
• 1:36:03
Speaker 6: Why and learning more about.
• 1:36:07
Speaker 7: Myself from myself and saying okay, this we're we're all right,
• 1:36:13
Speaker 7: and all we have to do is just take a
• 1:36:15
  Speaker 7: step forward.
• 1:36:16
Speaker 6: We can't stay stuck in.
• 1:36:18
Speaker 7: This reflection where you're only staring at the darkness.
• 1:36:25
Speaker 6: You have to learn how to.
• 1:36:27
Speaker 7: Turn the page and create your own light and going
• 1:36:32
Speaker 7: back to, like I said, being blooming where you're planted.
• 1:36:37
Speaker 6: And so that's a lot of where that that peace
• 1:36:41
  Speaker 6: came from.
• 1:36:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, you're a rose that grew through the concrete you
• 1:36:45
Speaker 5: write that, right, Yeah, I really felt that one.
• 1:36:55
Speaker 4: I did. Have you ever been walking?
• 1:36:58
Speaker 1: Because I used to have my room set up where
• 1:37:01
Speaker 1: I will when my thing was over there, I would
• 1:37:04
Speaker 1: walk in and my own shadow in the mirrors because
• 1:37:07
Speaker 1: they tilt. I have two that tilted and the one
• 1:37:10
Speaker 1: my own shadow in the mirror was scared of me,
• 1:37:12
Speaker 1: and I'd be like.
• 1:37:12
  Speaker 4: Who was that?
• 1:37:13
Speaker 1: And then you have to go back and you kind
• 1:37:15
Speaker 1: of look and you're like, Okay, thats be that was me.
• 1:37:20
  Speaker 4: That's a premise for a poem.
• 1:37:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, most definitely, But that this poem made
• 1:37:28
Speaker 1: me think of it in a different way because that's
• 1:37:31
Speaker 1: really our It's like our it's like that remints of
• 1:37:38
Speaker 1: our failures, just like poking in for you know, in
• 1:37:42
Speaker 1: the back of our minds, like it's always there, and
• 1:37:44
Speaker 1: just you want to be happy, you say, get dressed
• 1:37:47
Speaker 1: up nice to feel how you know what I'm saying.
• 1:37:50
  Speaker 4: And I.
• 1:37:53
Speaker 3: And I liked your references to black because I'm actually
• 1:37:59
Speaker 3: in the middle performing black.
• 1:38:00
Speaker 5: But you made me see it different because yeah, is
• 1:38:09
Speaker 5: what am I? I'm walking around black?
• 1:38:13
Speaker 6: Yeah that's coming from.
• 1:38:15
  Speaker 4: A black man.
• 1:38:17
Speaker 6: M hmm. Very much like learning how to be comfortable
• 1:38:21
Speaker 6: in my own skin.
• 1:38:22
Speaker 7: And I just kind of like played with the words
• 1:38:25
Speaker 7: of like black and darkness and depression.
• 1:38:28
  Speaker 6: But also I'm a.
• 1:38:29
Speaker 11: Black man and I am one hundred percent comfortable being
• 1:38:36
Speaker 11: a black man at that point, and so I was
• 1:38:39
Speaker 11: kind of I just wrote about that and trying to
• 1:38:42
  Speaker 11: figure out how.
• 1:38:43
Speaker 7: To conquer the gates of myself.
• 1:38:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, you wrote it was a It was a beautiful
• 1:38:52
Speaker 5: duality on the play of black to make. That's what
• 1:38:57
Speaker 5: That's what I pulled out of it the most, And
• 1:39:00
Speaker 5: I was like, wow, Like I said, I'm playing around
• 1:39:03
Speaker 5: with a poem black, But yeah, your duality was great.
• 1:39:08
Speaker 1: It speaks a lot on the black man though, and
• 1:39:10
Speaker 1: I think more need to hear it, because the black
• 1:39:13
Speaker 1: man is facing criticism from every outs just because and
• 1:39:20
Speaker 1: most times they aren't able to focus on what's going
• 1:39:24
Speaker 1: on inside of them. So not only do you have
• 1:39:25
Speaker 1: to fight the world, you got to fight yourself too.
• 1:39:28
Speaker 1: You got to fight your woman, your kids. You got
• 1:39:30
Speaker 1: to be that authority. But what about what I see
• 1:39:34
Speaker 1: when I'm looking in the mirror, Like, I commend you
• 1:39:37
Speaker 1: greatly for your expression, and the way that you articulated
• 1:39:42
  Speaker 1: is amazing.
• 1:39:44
Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
• 1:39:47
Speaker 7: And that's in the same way I'm learning all this,
• 1:39:52
Speaker 7: I challenge myself to share in hopes that it can
• 1:39:57
Speaker 7: inspire someone else to do the same or to tach
• 1:40:00
Speaker 7: someone else how to be the same, because we all
• 1:40:04
Speaker 7: need that, right, we do.
• 1:40:12
Speaker 4: You're gonna do your last poem and then I think
• 1:40:14
  Speaker 4: we got.
• 1:40:15
Speaker 5: About fifteen minutes and wrap up.
• 1:40:20
Speaker 6: Okay, okay, so this one is entitled.
• 1:40:27
  Speaker 2: My son.
• 1:40:27
  Speaker 6: Remember this.
• 1:40:34
Speaker 7: Coloring when you're younger is letting each shade have it's
• 1:40:40
  Speaker 7: alone time.
• 1:40:43
Speaker 6: They say elders deserve it.
• 1:40:46
Speaker 7: But I never had the opportunity to see your hair
• 1:40:51
Speaker 7: age to gray. You were a silver fox, elusive with
• 1:40:54
Speaker 7: your presence, no matter how much of a present it
• 1:40:58
Speaker 7: would be for me. Doesn't anyone care about how I feel.
• 1:41:02
Speaker 7: I didn't ask to be here, yet I am, and
• 1:41:04
Speaker 7: everything is falling apart. I have to pick up the
• 1:41:09
Speaker 7: pieces and make them beautiful. Whoever said horror was beautiful
• 1:41:15
Speaker 7: never had a cut deeper than the surface. I can't
• 1:41:18
Speaker 7: escape this horror story. And adults keep preaching about the honor.
• 1:41:24
Speaker 7: They don't even hold on to your moral compass. Clearly
• 1:41:28
Speaker 7: was never fixed, so stop trying to fix me. How'll
• 1:41:32
Speaker 7: do it myself. Just like everything else, I don't care
• 1:41:37
Speaker 7: if I take the long way. What's a little more
• 1:41:40
Speaker 7: pain with this depression? This is what I imagined your
• 1:41:46
  Speaker 7: thoughts said after.
• 1:41:47
Speaker 6: You heard me say Mom and Dad are getting a divorce.
• 1:41:53
Speaker 7: I'm sorry to have multiplied the trend of men walking
• 1:41:57
  Speaker 7: out your life.
• 1:41:58
  Speaker 2: Son.
• 1:41:59
Speaker 7: I'm sorry, and I hope you don't keep your hands
• 1:42:04
Speaker 7: around the neck of a grudge.
• 1:42:06
  Speaker 4: My son.
• 1:42:06
  Speaker 6: I love you.
• 1:42:08
Speaker 7: I'm sorry your picture of love now has a crack
• 1:42:11
Speaker 7: in it. My everything. If you hate me and ignore
• 1:42:15
Speaker 7: everything else, please remember this respect is earn not given,
• 1:42:19
Speaker 7: so learn to give it even when it's not deserved.
• 1:42:23
Speaker 7: Because pain can learn to heal when patience reflects. Respect
• 1:42:29
Speaker 7: can't be brought, So don't spend your money on brands
• 1:42:32
Speaker 7: expecting it to elevate your title.
• 1:42:34
Speaker 6: Your name holds a weight more valuable than gold.
• 1:42:38
Speaker 7: Not even the world can hold you. Let nothing hold
• 1:42:43
Speaker 7: you aft. Dad will always have your back. Respect those
• 1:42:47
Speaker 7: who hurt you more than the love they didn't give.
• 1:42:50
Speaker 7: When you treat respect like the kindness everyone should receive,
• 1:42:56
Speaker 7: you won't have to ask for it. Then you can
• 1:42:59
Speaker 7: paint your own own future coloring when you're older is
• 1:43:03
Speaker 7: letting the paint sit at the grown folks table and
• 1:43:07
Speaker 7: mix and conversation. Yes, no matter what, our colors were
• 1:43:15
Speaker 7: always matched. Mm about you?
• 1:43:23
Speaker 4: You just just you just set up making me cry
• 1:43:26
Speaker 4: to night. Huh, I love that.
• 1:43:33
Speaker 5: Again, a lot of men don't express their love as
• 1:43:36
Speaker 5: they shoot for their kids. And that's what I like
• 1:43:38
Speaker 5: about that. That poem in my favorite line is I'm
• 1:43:43
  Speaker 5: sorry that.
• 1:43:45
Speaker 4: I had to leave a crack? How you can you
• 1:43:49
  Speaker 4: run it?
• 1:43:49
Speaker 6: What was that like?
• 1:43:50
Speaker 4: And you run it back? Poet that I had.
• 1:43:52
Speaker 6: To leave a crack my son? I love you.
• 1:43:56
Speaker 7: I'm sorry your picture of love now has a cracking it.
• 1:44:01
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 1:44:02
Speaker 5: That's so deep because a lot of kids experience that
• 1:44:06
Speaker 5: when parents split split in that's just such a I mean,
• 1:44:13
  Speaker 5: I don't want to cry, but it's just such a
• 1:44:17
Speaker 5: what poetic way to say that, I'm sorry that we've
• 1:44:22
Speaker 5: split and your heart is split because the kids are
• 1:44:25
Speaker 5: split and they do see a crack when parents leave
• 1:44:27
Speaker 5: like that. Yeah, yeah, that's deep. Yeah.
• 1:44:34
Speaker 1: And again to a man to have that level of
• 1:44:37
Speaker 1: motion for a child that's not biologically yours is a
• 1:44:42
Speaker 1: testament in itself. So it's it's speaking on so many levels.
• 1:44:47
Speaker 1: But love is love, you know, right, and it's beautiful
• 1:44:53
Speaker 1: and it breaks in it men's and pieces, and you know,
• 1:45:01
Speaker 1: having that expression to show you said he's.
• 1:45:04
Speaker 6: Sixteen, now, yeah she's sixteen.
• 1:45:07
Speaker 7: I hate it because he's a whole young adult now,
• 1:45:10
Speaker 7: but I still think of him as little.
• 1:45:12
Speaker 1: Now they stay babies. My kids are now twenty one,
• 1:45:19
Speaker 1: nineteen eighteen, and they are still babies, you know, but
• 1:45:27
Speaker 1: you see him be molded into who they are. Like
• 1:45:30
Speaker 1: now they get to make their own choices and you
• 1:45:34
Speaker 1: get to see how much you've actually taught them by
• 1:45:39
Speaker 1: their character who they really are. So I really do personally,
• 1:45:43
Speaker 1: I sit in of my kids and if you look back,
• 1:45:47
Speaker 1: like they'll joke because a little girl came and tried
• 1:45:50
Speaker 1: to run away over here from one of the friends
• 1:45:54
Speaker 1: came over here and said the mom was trying to
• 1:45:57
Speaker 1: do clean something, so she ran away, and like, my
• 1:46:00
Speaker 1: son was like you the levels that you know what
• 1:46:04
Speaker 1: I'm saying, to the struggles that they've been through, what
• 1:46:07
Speaker 1: we've been through, to see the way that they handle
• 1:46:09
Speaker 1: themselves and stuff is amazing.
• 1:46:13
Speaker 5: Right right, That's just yeah, that's just awesome because you
• 1:46:18
Speaker 5: you still you're still being a guide an influence for
• 1:46:24
  Speaker 5: him regardless because.
• 1:46:27
Speaker 4: He speaks volumes. Mm hmm.
• 1:46:31
Speaker 5: So we're winding down a little bit. I had to
• 1:46:34
Speaker 5: ask a fun question. So if you had your poetry
• 1:46:41
Speaker 5: turned into a mini saga movie, who would you want
• 1:46:44
  Speaker 5: to play?
• 1:46:45
  Speaker 7: You?
• 1:46:48
Speaker 5: As an actor actress, you fit your personality.
• 1:46:56
  Speaker 6: That's so I'm biased.
• 1:47:01
Speaker 7: I don't know who it fit my personality the best,
• 1:47:03
Speaker 7: but I know, I know I have my favorite actors
• 1:47:07
Speaker 7: that I go watch and see mm hmmm.
• 1:47:11
Speaker 6: Like I really like Ryan Gosling a lot.
• 1:47:15
Speaker 7: I'll go see anything that he's in, even if it's trash,
• 1:47:19
  Speaker 7: just because.
• 1:47:19
  Speaker 6: I like him.
• 1:47:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, you're a movie fanatic too, movie right.
• 1:47:26
Speaker 6: And then I also like Johnny Depp a lot too.
• 1:47:28
Speaker 6: I feel like his.
• 1:47:30
Speaker 7: Offbeat, quirky weirdness fits the artistic side of me that
• 1:47:36
Speaker 7: people don't really see a lot.
• 1:47:39
  Speaker 6: It's in there.
• 1:47:41
Speaker 4: So Ryan Goslin, okay, okay, you're as Phoenix.
• 1:47:46
Speaker 1: Who I always felt like Mustard, I would say, too
• 1:47:52
Speaker 1: off top I would want to play me would be
• 1:47:56
Speaker 1: Laura London or Kelly Rowland.
• 1:48:00
Speaker 4: Oh Kelly, she's spicy, all.
• 1:48:02
Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, you know, because I'm not. You know, people
• 1:48:06
Speaker 1: talk to me. There's I'm in tune with every side
• 1:48:10
Speaker 1: of me. So to the level of passion and peace,
• 1:48:14
Speaker 1: I have to the same levels fury and aggression flow
• 1:48:17
Speaker 1: in me. So like Kelly rolling in that Mela coop
• 1:48:21
Speaker 1: who was it Mela Coopler or something like that. Yeah,
• 1:48:28
Speaker 1: Laura Levin from back the day in that soft side,
• 1:48:32
Speaker 1: because that is who I am. But a lot of
• 1:48:35
Speaker 1: time circumstances brings out another side of me. So one
• 1:48:38
  Speaker 1: of them.
• 1:48:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I asked the question, and who would I like?
• 1:48:46
  Speaker 1: Carrie?
• 1:48:46
Speaker 5: I love Karriy Washington. I mean this classic. She's strong,
• 1:48:53
Speaker 5: she's smart, and this is crazy. I really started liking
• 1:48:58
Speaker 5: her when I've seen her in the role in Django
• 1:49:03
Speaker 5: and she remember she was she was a slave. That
• 1:49:07
Speaker 5: was like the way because she was so smart. Oh yeah,
• 1:49:09
Speaker 5: and she would not give in and they, you know,
• 1:49:13
Speaker 5: beat up with her down whatever, but you know, a
• 1:49:17
Speaker 5: man came for her. And I liked her from that
• 1:49:20
Speaker 5: point and then I didn't fall into the scandal crazy
• 1:49:23
Speaker 5: until later. I like her, and then I loved Taragi.
• 1:49:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, Taraji could be the other side of me because
• 1:49:34
Speaker 4: we had the reality.
• 1:49:35
Speaker 5: She could be the other side of me, what you say,
• 1:49:37
Speaker 5: the feisty side, nonsense and m When I loved her
• 1:49:44
Speaker 5: and oh god, I can't think of the Tyler Perry movie.
• 1:49:47
Speaker 5: When she when she was kind of nutty, but when
• 1:49:51
Speaker 5: she when she worked all that time for I can't
• 1:49:55
Speaker 5: think of the name. But when she worked all that
• 1:49:57
Speaker 5: time for him and then he up and married somebody else.
• 1:49:59
Speaker 4: High she did give him the boot.
• 1:50:02
  Speaker 7: Oh yeah, acrimony.
• 1:50:06
Speaker 4: Acrimony. I liked her in acrimony.
• 1:50:11
  Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not saying I was herd, but I
• 1:50:12
Speaker 5: kind of could relate to some of that, not all
• 1:50:18
Speaker 5: of it, but to some of that when you build
• 1:50:20
Speaker 5: people up and then they feel like they walk out,
• 1:50:23
Speaker 5: even though she kind of pushed them out, Like yeah,
• 1:50:27
  Speaker 5: so before.
• 1:50:28
Speaker 4: We I know, we did this at the break.
• 1:50:32
Speaker 5: Again, tell us your name, your pen name, where to
• 1:50:36
Speaker 5: find you, what books you have out.
• 1:50:38
Speaker 4: And then we're gonna wrap it up.
• 1:50:40
Speaker 5: And when we I just like to say thank you,
• 1:50:43
Speaker 5: thank you very much for Grayson my podcast with your poetry.
• 1:50:48
Speaker 5: Both of you have brought me to tears. We've had
• 1:50:50
Speaker 5: some great conversations. I know it's not like my last
• 1:50:54
Speaker 5: time seeing you guys, because you're in the DFW area,
• 1:50:57
Speaker 5: and I thank you. I can't thank you enough for
• 1:51:02
Speaker 5: bringing your poetry out to the world.
• 1:51:05
Speaker 1: No, thank you so much for having me. I really
• 1:51:08
Speaker 1: appreciate it. Yeah, I haven't expressed myself on those levels
• 1:51:13
  Speaker 1: in a minute. I haven't even been on a podcast
• 1:51:16
Speaker 1: in a minute. So I appreciate that. I tell you
• 1:51:19
Speaker 1: I like to deck off and this is the season
• 1:51:22
Speaker 1: of focusing on self and not overextending myself to a
• 1:51:27
Speaker 1: lot of things. So you can't find my poetry anywhere
• 1:51:34
Speaker 1: right now. I only have a couple of little snippets
• 1:51:37
Speaker 1: and stuff posted on my Instagram. But I am Phoenix

• 1:51:52
Speaker 1: going to get better about. You know, I like to
• 1:51:56

• 1:52:00
Speaker 1: marketing strategies, and I'm a genius added.
• 1:52:05
  Speaker 4: Behind.
• 1:52:06
Speaker 1: I want it to be behind the scenes. But I
• 1:52:08
Speaker 1: do have a voice and I do have a perception
• 1:52:11
Speaker 1: that I want to share with the world. So I
• 1:52:13
Speaker 1: am opening myself up more to do that. So I
• 1:52:16
Speaker 1: will be seeing you ms more.
• 1:52:19
Speaker 4: You will and open mic.
• 1:52:21

• 1:52:25
Speaker 5: Is It's lovely, it's thought provoking, and you need to
• 1:52:30
Speaker 5: share it with the world.
• 1:52:31
Speaker 4: You have a talent.
• 1:52:33
