- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of saints Protus and Hyacinth, September 11 in the year of our Lord, 2026. Of today's saints, Monsignor William R Kelly writes, these holy martyrs scourged and beheaded during the persecutions of the third century, were commemorated by Pope Damasus with the following inscription. The kingdom of heaven holds thee, O Protus, and thither dost thou follow him, O valiant Hyacinth, robed in the purple of thy blood. They were brothers and were unconquered in spirit.
- 0:57Protus first won his crown, but Hyacinth equally deserved the palm. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The introit. The salvation of the just is from the Lord and he is their protector in the time of trouble.
- 1:27Be not immulus of evil doers nor envy them that work iniquity. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. The salvation of the just is from the Lord and he is their protector in the time of trouble. The Collect.
- 2:02Let us pray. May the glorious martyrdom of Protus and Hyacinth, thy blessed Martyrs, strengthen us, O Lord, and let their loving intercession continually shield us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews.
- 2:40Brethren, remember those early days when the light first came to you and the hard probation of suffering you went through. There were times when you yourselves were publicly exposed to calumny and persecution. There was a time when you took part with those who had the same path to tread. You showed your sympathy with those who were in bonds. And when you were robbed of your goods, you took it cheerfully as men who knew that a higher a more lasting good was yours.
- 3:21Do not throw away that confidence of yours with its rich hope of reward. You still need endurance if you are to attain the prize God has promised to those who do his will. Only a brief moment now before he who is coming will be here. He will not linger on the way. It is faith that brings life to the man whom I accept as justified.
- 3:58The gradual. The just cried and the Lord heard them and delivered them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart and he will save the humble of spirit. Alleluia. Alleluia.
- 4:20The white robed army of martyrs praise thee, O Lord. Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, Have nothing to do with the leaven of the Pharisees. It is all hypocrisy.
- 4:45What is veiled will all be revealed. What is hidden will all be known. What you have said in darkness will be repeated in the light of day. What you have whispered in secret chambers will be proclaimed on the housetops. And I say this to you who are my friends.
- 5:09Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body and after that can do no more. I will tell you who it is you must fear. Fear him who has power not only to kill but to cast a man into hell. Him you must fear indeed. Are not sparrows sold 5 for 2p?
- 5:36And yet not one of them is forgotten in God's sight. As for you, he takes every hair of your head into his reckoning. Do not be afraid then. You count for more than a host of sparrows. And I tell you this, whoever acknowledges me before men will be acknowledged by the Son of Man in the presence of God's angels.
- 6:08The offertory. The souls of the just are in the hand of God and the torment of malice shall not touch them. In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die but they are in peace. The secret. Dutifully, oh Lord, we present these gifts in commemoration of thy holy Martyrs, Protus and Hyacinth.
- 6:39Grant we beseech thee that their healing power within us may affect perpetual health through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty.
- 7:27The dominions worship it. The power stand in awe. The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts.
- 7:57The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion, that which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light, saith the Lord.
- 8:24And that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops. The post communion. Let us pray. May thy holy gifts which we have received cleanse us, oh Lord, we beseech thee through the prayers of thy blessed Martyrs, Protus and Hyacinth, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 9:06In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint Protus, pray for us. Saint Hyacinth, pray for us. Holy Mary, born this day, pray for us.
