- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, they're not being persuaded to back a fascist. They're
- 0:03Speaker 1: not being persuaded to back a regime that is occupying
- 0:07Speaker 1: American cities, that is starting unnecessary foreign entanglements, that is
- 0:13Speaker 1: trampling on the Constitution.
- 0:16Speaker 2: They're not into that. Michael.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I think you know that. I think everybody paying attention
- 0:20Speaker 1: knows that. And anybody who's been watching the election returns
- 0:24Speaker 1: for the last fifteen months, in special elections and off
- 0:26Speaker 1: your elections has seen that the regime is being crushed
- 0:30Speaker 1: every time they are free and fair elections, which is
- 0:32Speaker 1: why I believe they are ramping up threats against art
- 0:37Speaker 1: democratic infrastructure because they are worried about free and fair
- 0:41Speaker 1: elections taking away their power, and they don't want a
- 0:44Speaker 1: fair fight. They do not want a fair fight. That
- 0:46Speaker 1: the bad news for them is that's not up to them.
- 0:49Speaker 1: That is not up to them. And part of the
- 0:51Speaker 1: point of showing up with the largest protest in history
- 0:54Speaker 1: on March twenty eighth, as I believe we will do
- 0:56Speaker 1: for No Kings III, is to show them and everybody
- 1:00Speaker 1: else that democracy is reasserting itself, whether they like it
- 1:04Speaker 1: or not.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I fundamentally agree with you on the democracy argument and
- 1:09Speaker 3: the rejection of fascism. I also think this conversation would
- 1:13Speaker 3: be different, Ezra if the economy were working for everyday Americans.
- 1:17Speaker 3: We know in our own lived experience anecdotally it is not.
- 1:21Speaker 3: It's also what voters are saying in polling. This is
- 1:24Speaker 3: an ap nort pole. The question was to approve or
- 1:27Speaker 3: disapprove of the way Donald Trump is handling his job
- 1:29Speaker 3: as president. That number was sixty two percent disapprove, thirty
- 1:34Speaker 3: six percent approving. And it's interesting to me because those
- 1:36Speaker 3: numbers almost exactly mirror Ezra the question on the economy,
- 1:41Speaker 3: what share of Americans approve of the president's job? Before
- 1:45Speaker 3: this is asking the same question. There was an economy
- 1:47Speaker 3: question in here somewhere. You get the idea, though, which
- 1:50Speaker 3: is like, I think it is a one two punch,
- 1:53Speaker 3: and I think that's part of what you saw in
- 1:54Speaker 3: Virginia and in New Jersey. You lead with affordability, you
- 1:58Speaker 3: talk about the economy, but you land on this question
- 2:00Speaker 3: of democracy.
- 2:02Speaker 1: AlSi, you took the words out of my mouth. That's
- 2:03Speaker 1: something we say it indivisible all the time. This one
- 2:05Speaker 1: two punch because Trump one in twenty twenty four on
- 2:09Speaker 1: the argument that he wasn't part of the status quo
- 2:12Speaker 1: that he was going to lower the price of eggs
- 2:14Speaker 1: and bread, that he was going to get you a
- 2:16Speaker 1: better job, that he was going to make the economy
- 2:18Speaker 1: work for you. And part of the argument is the
- 2:20Speaker 1: affordability argument. He's not doing any of that. He's clearly
- 2:24Speaker 1: not doing of that. People are not better off now
- 2:25Speaker 1: than they were before. But the other part is why
- 2:28Speaker 1: isn't he doing any of that. He's not doing any
- 2:30Speaker 1: of that because he's focusing on enriching himself, on attacking
- 2:35Speaker 1: Venezuela or Greenland, on terrorizing.
- 2:37Speaker 2: The Twin Cities. What is he up to? It makes
- 2:40Speaker 2: no sense.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Why would this guy deserve more power another two years
- 2:45Speaker 1: of Congress. That's an easy argument to make because it
- 2:48Speaker 1: makes sense to everybody.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Watching what's going on.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And when we show up in force on March twenty
- 2:53Speaker 1: eighth with massive non violent protests, we put a spotlight
- 2:57Speaker 1: on all the random other stuff he's doing rather than
- 3:00Speaker 1: focusing on improving your life.
- 3:03Speaker 2: And as we head into the general.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Election, exactly as you said one two punch, he wants
- 3:07Speaker 1: to be a king to enrich himself.
- 3:09Speaker 2: He's selling you out. He's not doing anything for you, and.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That's a message that resonates with Democrats, resonates with independence,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and registers with Republicans who voted for Trump hoping for
- 3:21Speaker 1: something that they haven't gotten.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 5: I mean, look, people, President Obama has been in the
- 3:25Speaker 5: news obviously as of late this week. He was at
- 3:27Speaker 5: the All Star Game this weekend. But people, forget, many
- 3:30Speaker 5: of the voters that voted for President Obama turned out
- 3:33Speaker 5: and then voted for then President Trump in that twenty
- 3:36Speaker 5: sixteen election. So there is some connective tissue there. You
- 3:42Speaker 5: told Mother Jones that we as indivisible are developing organizational
- 3:47Speaker 5: capacity that allows us to pull off historic levels of
- 3:50Speaker 5: engagement in between these tent pole events. So the No
- 3:54Speaker 5: King's protest is not just about the protest one day,
- 3:58Speaker 5: just the one March. But I do think it is
- 4:01Speaker 5: filling a gap and avoid that people have. There are
- 4:04Speaker 5: a lot of people that are fired up that are
- 4:06Speaker 5: paying attention. This idea that the voters aren't paying attention.
- 4:08Speaker 5: I think it's a bunch of bs. There are some
- 4:09Speaker 5: people that are paying attention, but they're not as engaged.
- 4:13Speaker 5: But there are a lot of Americans that are very
- 4:15Speaker 5: engaged and looking for somewhere to put their energy in
- 4:17Speaker 5: the not just trying to wait until the next election.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Look, I think that's really important. I one thing that
- 4:23Speaker 1: really bugs me, and I see Democrats through this sometimes too.
- 4:26Speaker 1: They see a big crowd of people out in an
- 4:28Speaker 1: off here and they say, all you people, remember to vote,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and the response to the people in the crowd is like,
- 4:33Speaker 1: what are you talking about?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Vote? There's a fascist in the White House and.
- 4:36Speaker 1: The election is a year away, or in this case
- 4:38Speaker 1: a little bit less than You're right. Give me something
- 4:40Speaker 1: to do right now, to stand up for my community.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Give me something that I can do to actually show
- 4:46Speaker 1: that I'm standing up for my rights and what I
- 4:48Speaker 1: think about on that simone is two days after the
- 4:51Speaker 1: murder of Alex Pretty in the Twin Cities. One reaction
- 4:54Speaker 1: you could imagine that is people are over the country
- 4:56Speaker 1: see that and say, oh, I don't want any of that.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'm going to stay home. I'm going to keep my
- 5:00Speaker 2: self safe. I'm going to keep my head down.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm not going to do anything in public that shows
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm against this regime. We offered a training, eyes on
- 5:07Speaker 1: ice training to train people on how to do exactly
- 5:10Speaker 1: what Alex Pretty was doing, exactly what Renee Good was doing,
- 5:14Speaker 1: exercising their First Amendment rights to stand up in defense
- 5:17Speaker 1: of their neighbors.
- 5:18Speaker 2: We had more than.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Two hundred thousand people join that training two days after
- 5:24Speaker 1: Alex Preddy's murder. People are hungry to be part of
- 5:28Speaker 1: the fight for democracy right now.
- 5:30Speaker 2: No Kings is a big day protest.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think it's very important, But to your point, it's
- 5:34Speaker 1: a one day protest.
- 5:35Speaker 2: That's not how we save democracy.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It is a tool for growing the movement of people
- 5:40Speaker 1: who are going to stand up in their own community
- 5:42Speaker 1: in places like Gustavus, Alaska, population six sixty five, or Colomba, California,
- 5:47Speaker 1: population three seventy two.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Elkton, Oregon, population one hundred and eighty three.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Eltin, Oregon has a no Kings protest on the map
- 5:54Speaker 1: for March twenty eight.
- 5:55Speaker 2: There are going to be thousands of these events in.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Blue states, in red states, in purple states, in urban communities,
- 6:03Speaker 1: suburban communities, rural communities.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Because people want.
- 6:06Speaker 1: To be part of something in this moment, we're trying
- 6:09Speaker 1: to give them an easy on ramp to being part
- 6:11Speaker 1: of something meaningful.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Well, I think that's an important aspect of this EZRA.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And you know, I just I love the work. I
- 6:19Speaker 4: applaud the work because it does to Simone's point in
- 6:22Speaker 4: question around engagement and what that looks like means something.
- 6:26Speaker 4: We've got about thirty seconds left, We've got a thousand events,
- 6:30Speaker 4: we have word in a thousand. What does that translate
- 6:33Speaker 4: into participation? What do you feel that's going to be
- 6:36Speaker 4: given the initial two and a half now than five
- 6:41Speaker 4: million people, what does this feel like for you?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, let me give you a sense of the trae directory.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Three million people at thirteen hundred events for hands Out,
- 6:50Speaker 1: five million people at twenty one hundred events for No
- 6:53Speaker 1: Kings one, seven million people at twenty seven hundred events
- 6:57Speaker 1: for No Kings two. We are currently on track to
- 7:00Speaker 1: exceed No Kings two. I promised y'all twice before the
- 7:04Speaker 1: largest protests in history. I've proven that right. And No
- 7:07Speaker 1: Kings one and No Kings two. I'm promising you again,
- 7:09Speaker 1: this is going to be the largest protest in American history.
- 7:12Speaker 1: It's going to be the largest protest in Twin Cities history.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Where the flagship event is you can count on it,
- 7:17Speaker 1: because I know people around the country are ready to
- 7:20Speaker 1: do this.
