- 0:21Speaker 1: Yeah, goodness, wonderful to have you on the show. Now
- 0:24Speaker 1: tell us a little bit firstly about what had happened
- 0:27Speaker 1: yesterday morning in Darwin City.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, about t fifty amsday morning, a vehicle stolen from
- 0:35Speaker 3: a residence in Leanna. About now later that vehicle we
- 0:38Speaker 3: used to remorad a licensed premises in Buffalo Court and
- 0:42Speaker 3: Dawn City. As a result of that, substantial amount of
- 0:46Speaker 3: alcohol was stolen. Police located of the vehicle not long
- 0:49Speaker 3: after driving dangerously through Winnelli. But michud was initiated but
- 0:53Speaker 3: quickly terminated just to the manner of driving. It's quite dangerous.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Not long after that police sired the v streeting gun
- 1:01Speaker 3: where the occupants abandoned it and fled on foot. We'll
- 1:05Speaker 3: manage to recover a fair bit of the stolen alcohol,
- 1:08Speaker 3: which was good.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah. How much alcohol did they steal?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Well, they stole in excess of eighteen borrels of spirits
- 1:15Speaker 3: and over one hundred cans of Premix. Wow, I fair whack.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Like I said, we managed to get the majority of
- 1:23Speaker 3: that back, which was good. And then just through some
- 1:26Speaker 3: investigations late yesterday afternoon, we arrested four miles of age
- 1:31Speaker 3: fourteen at a residence in Palmerston.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So they were all aged fourteen, All age fourteen.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Yeah, two were turned up being charged with a number offenses,
- 1:41Speaker 3: including a gravida on all for use of a motive,
- 1:45Speaker 3: a gravailable for entry of a building and stealing, and
- 1:48Speaker 3: the other two fourteen year olds were released to be
- 1:51Speaker 3: dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justices Act.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It must get frustrating for you.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You know, that seems so young to a lot of
- 1:58Speaker 1: people listening this morning, They're going to think, good, just
- 2:00Speaker 1: me fourteen years old.
- 2:02Speaker 3: It is young. It's just it's frustrating for police and
- 2:05Speaker 3: the victims in the martain know the senseless damage to
- 2:09Speaker 3: the roller doors and the theft of the vehicle. Not
- 2:11Speaker 3: to mention the just the driving, the dangerous driving along
- 2:15Speaker 3: the highway puts all the other road users that were risk.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you're spot on, and that is the concern, isn't it.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You know that they end up injuring themselves or somebody
- 2:24Speaker 1: else on the road. And you can understand then why
- 2:26Speaker 1: you guys are in a situation where you have to,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you know, where you have to terminate those pursuits pretty
- 2:31Speaker 1: quickly sometimes, oh you do.
- 2:34Speaker 3: You have to obviously take in all the risk, the
- 2:37Speaker 3: risk assessment and weigh it all up. But yeah, number
- 2:40Speaker 3: on priorities obviously to keep everyone safe on the roads,
- 2:43Speaker 3: and if that means not pursuing a vehicle, that's what
- 2:46Speaker 3: it is. We've just got to make sure that day
- 2:48Speaker 3: we want.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Safe absolutely now.
- 2:51Speaker 1: We also yesterday we spoke to one of our listeners, Caroline,
- 2:54Speaker 1: who'd had her vehicle stolen.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I believe it was in Jingly.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm not sure whether you've got any infole on that one, Mark,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but I know that unfortunately, we do end up in
- 3:04Speaker 1: a situation sometimes where we have you know, where we
- 3:07Speaker 1: have vehicles taken from well, people getting inside the home,
- 3:11Speaker 1: stealing the keys and then getting away with the car.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a jockey. What happened, Kadie? A vehicle signed
- 3:18Speaker 3: from a single early yesterday morning, it was sighted down
- 3:23Speaker 3: at Rapid Creek where it was reported to police. Police
- 3:28Speaker 3: attended and ended up locating the vehicle with a number
- 3:32Speaker 3: of years fleeing from it. We managed to arrest the driver,
- 3:36Speaker 3: who was twelve years old, and he was arrested and
- 3:41Speaker 3: charged and reminded and custody.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Goodness may twelve years old? Bloody hell?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I think the other youth that managed to
- 3:53Speaker 3: evade police at the time roughing around the same ages.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And mate, do we know know?
- 3:59Speaker 1: I was was the damage or was the car in
- 4:01Speaker 1: a situation where you know where it was damaged?
- 4:05Speaker 2: Or how was that?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah? It wasn't too bad. It's just probably more where
- 4:09Speaker 3: it went down the embankment where the kids did abandon.
- 4:12Speaker 3: It actually rolled down a bit of the embankment, so
- 4:14Speaker 3: it received some damage from there, which is unfortunate for
- 4:17Speaker 3: the owner.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Well.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I hope that.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I hope she's able to get it back and able
- 4:22Speaker 1: to drive it again. Mark, is there anything much else
- 4:25Speaker 1: going on that we should be aware of?
- 4:27Speaker 3: No? No, just pretty much keeping very busy. But just
- 4:31Speaker 3: ask everyone out there. Yeah, just vigilant obviously, like we
- 4:36Speaker 3: say most of the time on the radio when I'm speaking,
- 4:39Speaker 3: just mindful to lock your doors, keep your car keys
- 4:42Speaker 3: out of side to stop those opportunist, opportunistic thefts vehicles
- 4:48Speaker 3: which obviously we can see result in more serious offending
- 4:52Speaker 3: down the track.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you're spot on and we really appreciate you coming
- 4:55Speaker 1: on the show. But also the work that you guys
- 4:57Speaker 1: do is part of Strikeforce Trident On that you are
- 5:00Speaker 1: there for a lot of those different property crimes. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: a lot of the time unfortunately where we do see
- 5:07Speaker 1: youth crime and cars stolen and that kind of thing.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You guys do a phenomenal job in making sure that
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know that you apprehend those people that are doing
- 5:15Speaker 1: the wrong thing.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Oh, thank you very much, Katie, very much appreciate.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, anytime, mate, Thank you for the work that you
- 5:22Speaker 1: do and we'll talk to you again very soon.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Mark
