- 1:18Speaker 2: we're gonna leave a positive review for the new movie,
- 1:22Speaker 2: a no spoiler for a new movie Him Him.
- 1:30Speaker 3: My God Today.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Off top, we can say this, I definitely enjoyed this
- 1:39Speaker 2: far more than I did one bat after another. If
- 1:41Speaker 2: you peeped our review of At, which you should right now.
- 1:45Speaker 2: In fact, we dropped the unedited version of that review
- 1:48Speaker 2: on YouTube as well, so you can go peep that
- 1:50Speaker 2: right now as well. I enjoyed him far more. This
- 1:55Speaker 2: is definitely one of my favorite movies of the year.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Not a movie that I don't know how many watch again, right,
- 2:04Speaker 2: but I was wildly entertained for the one time that
- 2:07Speaker 2: I have seen it.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Let me give you my quick blurb, but what I thought.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Him it was.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Listen him was creepy as hell, It was unnerving.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It was off the wall, it was freaked out, it
- 2:27Speaker 1: was obsessive, and it was the most one of the
- 2:31Speaker 1: most entertaining pieces of.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Cinema in a while.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I mean, I think maybe, like you said, maybe one
- 2:37Speaker 1: of my favorite movies for various off the world reasons,
- 2:44Speaker 1: but probably one of my favorites because of how crazy
- 2:50Speaker 1: it is, Like it's on some fucked up love Craft
- 2:56Speaker 1: wild ship. It was a think of all the should happened.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I love Crests Country on HBO, remember that, and just.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Add some nonsense to it, just just.
- 3:09Speaker 1: But it's entertaining, and it's funny and it's brutal.
- 3:14Speaker 4: And it's just like.
- 3:16Speaker 3: What am I?
- 3:17Speaker 4: What's happening? But I'm enjoying.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Nonsense, right fully enjoying it. Julia Fox, who I did
- 3:25Speaker 2: not know is in this movie, is in this movie,
- 3:28Speaker 2: and this film feels like Julia Fox. You know, she's
- 3:32Speaker 2: playing herself. No, I don't mean her, I just itself. No,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you know, like you know, is it stravagant, outrageous, as
- 3:41Speaker 2: ridiculous as Julia Fox's life and public life has been.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yes, it reflects her very well, no doubt, no doubt.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It is absolutely, as you mentioned, outrageous and over the top.
- 3:53Speaker 4: It's o d It's one.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And what I will say is this, y'all are gonna
- 3:59Speaker 1: stop sleeping on Marlon Wayne's after you if you had
- 4:04Speaker 1: any doubts about his acting abilities, if you had no
- 4:06Speaker 1: idea what this.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Man can do.
- 4:09Speaker 1: This man gotta be be put up for for something, something.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You gotta come home with something ath of this, because
- 4:16Speaker 1: not only.
- 4:16Speaker 4: The level of dedication, but the level of.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I'm sure he's in therapy because of this, Like he's
- 4:23Speaker 1: got to be, because the way that he not only
- 4:26Speaker 1: embraced his character, but like created his own monster to
- 4:31Speaker 1: Really it's very simple, very play this this this this
- 4:38Speaker 1: football legend, if you will, fictional but still football legend.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I ain't never seen no ship like that. And when
- 4:45Speaker 4: I say he is.
- 4:47Speaker 1: The most funniest terrifying character I've ever watched in a
- 4:50Speaker 1: very long time, like Marlon did that, he's.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Like ostra Isaac and eg Maker, where he is hilarious,
- 5:00Speaker 2: is and fucking terrifying at the same time. That's the
- 5:03Speaker 2: last time I could say it after you got me
- 5:06Speaker 2: like this was ostra Isaac and X Macta. Like he
- 5:10Speaker 2: he doesn't dance, but he does something else that I
- 5:13Speaker 2: won't spoil that is as iconic as that dance scene
- 5:19Speaker 2: in That's Macna when astra isa starts dancing, where it's
- 5:22Speaker 2: terrifying and also hilarious like that, I mean, that is
- 5:27Speaker 2: him straight through it. And for those who don't know
- 5:29Speaker 2: Marlon Wayns was, I mean he's always been great, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 2: obviously the comedy and all that. But in two thousand,
- 5:36Speaker 2: he was in the year two thousand, a year two
- 5:38Speaker 2: thousand he was starting the film recording for a Dream,
- 5:42Speaker 2: which is directed by Darren Aronsky, and recording for a
- 5:46Speaker 2: Dream is a very darky film.
- 5:49Speaker 3: I remember that film, yes.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And Marlon killed it. He did, yeah, and so he's
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean that's, you know, twenty five years ago, like
- 5:57Speaker 2: this man been putting in that work.
- 6:00Speaker 1: A lot of people don't see that, like they see
- 6:02Speaker 1: that they here, remember you remember WANs and you think comedy.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But that's the thing. Most great comedians are usually very
- 6:10Speaker 2: good dramatic actors because it's one of those things. They're
- 6:14Speaker 2: usually hiding a lot of pain and all that stuff,
- 6:16Speaker 2: because comedy is built off pain and trauma, usually especially
- 6:20Speaker 2: black comedy. So for that matter, and by black comedy,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I mean black people comedy, I don't mean like a
- 6:26Speaker 2: black movie, you know, a black comedy movie, which this
- 6:29Speaker 2: is definitely a dark comedy movie, very dark comedy, but
- 6:32Speaker 2: it's also many genres, you know, it's a few different genres.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I mean it's produced by the Monkey Paul Productions, which
- 6:38Speaker 1: which is all Jordan Peel's name on and all everyone
- 6:40Speaker 1: sees Jordan like, oh, this is Jordan movie.
- 6:42Speaker 3: It's not.
- 6:42Speaker 2: No.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It was directed by Justin Tipping Tipping Ye and the
- 6:47Speaker 1: writers were Zach Ackers, Skip Bronki and Justin Tipping, all
- 6:52Speaker 1: three of which are out of their fucking minds because.
- 6:56Speaker 4: The choices like it's.
- 7:00Speaker 1: There were so many times where Ben, I mean and
- 7:03Speaker 1: I were just sitting there watching like, yo, this is
- 7:06Speaker 1: this can't get any crazier. And then it went to
- 7:10Speaker 1: a level and then we looked at each other like
- 7:12Speaker 1: what's happening? And again, this is not in a disparaging way.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We don't you know, this is not derogatory. This is
- 7:19Speaker 1: we were legitimately like, what the fuck.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Is happening right now?
- 7:23Speaker 4: And why is this happening right now?
- 7:25Speaker 1: And you couldn't turn away from the screen because you
- 7:27Speaker 1: were just so invested in can you please explain to
- 7:32Speaker 1: me what's happening right now? Can we get some answers?
- 7:35Speaker 1: And you never got a fucking answer. There were so
- 7:42Speaker 1: many points they were like, well, why did this happen?
- 7:45Speaker 1: And you never got an answer. No, you wand explain
- 7:48Speaker 1: so many things in this movie.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I was even thinking of something like the shooting range
- 7:53Speaker 2: that happens and then it's like, okay, I guess.
- 7:57Speaker 1: There's so much And for the those who want to know, Okay,
- 8:01Speaker 1: what is the tone of the movie, the tone is ultraviolent.
- 8:05Speaker 1: If you've seen the trailers, you've already seen it. It's
- 8:08Speaker 1: ultra violet? Is it as bad as as I mentioned
- 8:11Speaker 1: maybe previously the Long Walk? Just in terms of no, no,
- 8:17Speaker 1: there are some things.
- 8:18Speaker 4: That make you cringe, like ooh, why they got to
- 8:19Speaker 4: do that?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Why they have to do it?
- 8:20Speaker 1: But it's still enough, they still pull back enough from
- 8:23Speaker 1: making you see every single inch of you know, horrible
- 8:28Speaker 1: thing happened to the person. And they also stylized it
- 8:31Speaker 1: a lot. Right, Remember this is a football movie, so
- 8:34Speaker 1: and I don't want to give things away, but just
- 8:35Speaker 1: think along the lines of what you normally see in football,
- 8:37Speaker 1: like when they show the replays, when they show this,
- 8:39Speaker 1: when they show that, Like what goes into being a
- 8:41Speaker 1: football player? Right?
- 8:42Speaker 4: What physicality?
- 8:43Speaker 1: What physical things go into you know, being on the
- 8:46Speaker 1: field and the things.
- 8:47Speaker 4: That happen to players, Right, what do they have to
- 8:49Speaker 4: go through?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:50Speaker 4: It's both from a physical and psychological perspective.
- 8:53Speaker 1: They intertwine that within the film and they deliver it's
- 8:58Speaker 1: a horror. It's a it's that new style genre horror,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but it's like it's a horror film, like and it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: mind boggling how much lunacy, sheer lunacy that they packed
- 9:13Speaker 1: into this film, and there were people around that was like, nah,
- 9:17Speaker 1: y'all can't be for real, Like there's people who were
- 9:19Speaker 1: saying comments like that at every single scene, like there's
- 9:23Speaker 1: and that's the thing. There's not one scene. There may
- 9:26Speaker 1: be a couple of scenes where it's quiet, quiet ish,
- 9:30Speaker 1: like someone talking on the phone or something like that,
- 9:32Speaker 1: but right around the corner it's some like they don't
- 9:35Speaker 1: give you a chance, like in the times where it
- 9:37Speaker 1: be kind of quiet and nothing, you think that's going on,
- 9:40Speaker 1: something creepy is happening in the background. But when I
- 9:43Speaker 1: got to tell y'all this, open y'all fucking eyes when
- 9:45Speaker 1: y'all watch this film, because their shit come out of
- 9:47Speaker 1: every corner of the screen.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Like they made use of the frame.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Let me say that, yeah, do that they made good
- 9:54Speaker 1: use of the From a cinematography perspective, they.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Made good use of this.
- 9:59Speaker 2: On that note for bringing up a cinematography, it was
- 10:01Speaker 2: actually done by Kira Kelly who's worked on Queen Sugar.
- 10:05Speaker 2: So I want to give a big shout out to
- 10:07Speaker 2: them because this is they did their thing on house
- 10:10Speaker 2: Like Kira, Yeah, Kira, you did your thing on this.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Let me say that it is a beautiful cinematography, so
- 10:19Speaker 2: many and just you know, a composition of the shots.
- 10:23Speaker 2: They're just gorgeous. There are so many still frames that
- 10:27Speaker 2: could be taken from this movie. It's absolutely gorgeous.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And when I say so much stuff that, I don't
- 10:31Speaker 1: mean there's like a million things happen on the screen.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I just mean like there's so much in terms of detailing. Yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and as you mentioned, blocking, where people, where people are
- 10:41Speaker 1: in the shot, and what's happening in the background, what's
- 10:44Speaker 1: happening in the foreground. Like, there's so much to take
- 10:46Speaker 1: and there's so much information presented to you.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Whether or not it makes sense, it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Doesn't even fucking matter, but it's there and it makes
- 10:53Speaker 1: you intrigue, like like you're at least me, I was
- 10:56Speaker 1: constantly on edge throughout the film because it's quite literally
- 11:00Speaker 1: like what's about to happen next? And not necessarily in
- 11:03Speaker 1: a I'm fearful, but just the I don't know what
- 11:06Speaker 1: to expect. Yeah, And in this Ben and I, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: we're critics, so we've been seeing films for a long time,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and you know, we could probably typically guess was about
- 11:15Speaker 1: to happen within the first fifteen minutes and while we
- 11:18Speaker 1: technically guessed the people I knew knew, we still didn't
- 11:22Speaker 1: know how we was going to arrive there.
- 11:23Speaker 2: No, No, not at all. Definitely that And the premise
- 11:27Speaker 2: cens on Wikipedia is Cameron Cade was destined for football
- 11:31Speaker 2: glory into an attacked by obsessed fan for in the
- 11:34Speaker 2: end of his career before it began. Just from Hope
- 11:36Speaker 2: Fades is idle legendary quarterback. I say a White invites
- 11:39Speaker 2: him the train in private compound. From what starts is
- 11:42Speaker 2: the opportunity of lifetime, soon twisting something far more dangerous,
- 11:46Speaker 2: as Cam discovered the true cost of chasing greatness.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's the funniest darkest thing I've ever seen. I will
- 11:52Speaker 1: absolutely say that, like.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's I can't say ever, but it's it's
- 11:57Speaker 2: up there.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It's the funniest darkest scene thing I've ever fucking seen.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Like there's some ship that's dark that I just do
- 12:02Speaker 1: not find funny because it's too dark for me.
- 12:04Speaker 4: No, this is both. This is equally both.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I actually mentioned this the other day talking on one
- 12:09Speaker 2: bat off another Doctor Strange Love, which is one of
- 12:12Speaker 2: the fun It is probably the funniest dark at film
- 12:15Speaker 2: I've ever seen that that ship is hilarious and they're
- 12:18Speaker 2: making you know, h I t alert Ellie Yard jokes
- 12:21Speaker 2: and that ship and it's hilarious. Oh my god, it's
- 12:28Speaker 2: one of the funniest jokes. Wait, let me say this, okay.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Cameron Cade is played by Tyreek Withers and who Didstic
- 12:40Speaker 2: Fantastic Drop. And some of you might know Tyreek from
- 12:43Speaker 2: his big breakout role. Actually I found out was on
- 12:47Speaker 2: an episode of Atlanta in the final season. I do
- 12:50Speaker 2: believe it was one of the final two. I think
- 12:51Speaker 2: it was the last one. And it's called rich Wiga
- 12:53Speaker 2: Poor Wiga. And it's an episode that feature the late
- 12:58Speaker 2: what's his name, Kevin Samuel House's name right, m Yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 4: The one I was telling women that you.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Know that guy? Yeah, But it featured him as he
- 13:09Speaker 2: was bard of as judgment because basically, Tyree's character had
- 13:13Speaker 2: to prove that he was black because he was half white,
- 13:16Speaker 2: and he was trying to get a scholarship that was
- 13:17Speaker 2: only for black people and it doesn't work out. It's
- 13:20Speaker 2: a brilliant episode. If y'all haven't seen it, please don't
- 13:23Speaker 2: watch it. And Tyreek killed it and I loved him minute,
- 13:26Speaker 2: but I didn't you know, I was. I really lost
- 13:28Speaker 2: the matter. I didn't see him say anything since so
- 13:30Speaker 2: when I walk and I'm like, wait, I know this dude,
- 13:32Speaker 2: and then I look like, oh, he's that dude from Atlanta. Okay,
- 13:36Speaker 2: so he is on the way to start him to
- 13:38Speaker 2: superstar him.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And apparently he was on the game. Didn't know that
- 13:41Speaker 1: he was. He was on like at least seven episodes.
- 13:43Speaker 2: So oh okay. And he was also in I Know
- 13:45Speaker 2: What You Did last summer earlier this summer.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Ah, okay, okay.
- 13:49Speaker 2: The reboot yep which I was pretty good. So he's
- 13:53Speaker 2: on the way.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I know you've seen him in Marlins doing the press run,
- 13:57Speaker 1: you know, being popping up everywhere. And no, he he
- 14:00Speaker 1: does a phenomenal job. Marlon stole the show, but does
- 14:05Speaker 1: a phenomenal job. You mentioned Julia Fox, like I said earlier,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I say again, she played herself. Yeah, because this is
- 14:11Speaker 1: a reflection of, as you mentioned, her life and her
- 14:13Speaker 1: personality that the.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Whole movie is like just it felt like Julia Fox
- 14:17Speaker 2: on this PREMI everybody.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Is on one in this film, everybody, and that's and
- 14:25Speaker 1: that's I think that's also probably what drove this home
- 14:28Speaker 1: for me, just the fact, like it wasn't like, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 1: you was getting a little bit out of everyone else
- 14:32Speaker 1: in a.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Lot out of one person. No, everybody was on ten.
- 14:37Speaker 1: And again it was just unpredictable in many ways because.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I love Julia in what's that Jules movie? Was that ship?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the heist movie?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:48Speaker 4: Yeah, she was great, and that where she like changed
- 14:51Speaker 4: and became she.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Was already she was already on the way when Yeah,
- 14:55Speaker 2: but but it was it was change it go fool Julia. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 2: so I knew she could add but this one. I
- 15:04Speaker 2: loved her in it. Oh my god, she was good.
- 15:07Speaker 2: But yeah, Marlin, let me say, like, yo, No, definitely,
- 15:12Speaker 2: And it's one of those things where it's gonna be
- 15:15Speaker 2: either it donna either be you know, Oscar and Golden
- 15:18Speaker 2: Globe nominated or Razzie's nominated. It could go either way.
- 15:24Speaker 1: He put so much and that's and it's so weird
- 15:27Speaker 1: because and the only reason why that could be the case, man,
- 15:30Speaker 1: is because it's so such an out there film, so.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Good.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Like I said, I don't want people get the wrong
- 15:38Speaker 1: in it, like.
- 15:38Speaker 3: It's it's a good.
- 15:39Speaker 4: So it's just wild a ship.
- 15:42Speaker 2: There are certain scenes of Marlon that I have to
- 15:44Speaker 2: see again. Like I said earlier, I'm not sure if
- 15:46Speaker 2: I want to see this whole.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Movie just for that one scene.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I want to see this. And like I
- 15:51Speaker 2: was about to say this earlier, if there were still
- 15:53Speaker 2: dollar theaters, you know what I mean, where you can
- 15:56Speaker 2: like smoke and drink in the back of them, this
- 15:58Speaker 2: is what I would want to say. See that, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 2: in a theater full of black people, you know, just
- 16:04Speaker 2: having the time of their life, yelling and talking to
- 16:06Speaker 2: the screen. That's where I want to see this in
- 16:08Speaker 2: speaking to.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Black people, at least at least Cameron Kid, the main
- 16:13Speaker 1: character Tyreek with theirs character.
- 16:16Speaker 4: He know he's black, and he behaves as a black
- 16:19Speaker 4: person should be behaving.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Listen, let me get let me get here. He is
- 16:27Speaker 1: behaving as you should in say any things that I
- 16:29Speaker 1: would expect one in this country should be saying and behaving.
- 16:33Speaker 4: There are some questions though and there, but again some points.
- 16:37Speaker 2: He is a black man, a young black man, and you.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Know he's young, so like like hold on.
- 16:47Speaker 4: You know, but there are some questions where it's just
- 16:49Speaker 4: like why would you do.
- 16:50Speaker 2: That, sir? But I might have made this stress right before.
- 16:54Speaker 1: We get to cause, like I said, like I have notes,
- 16:57Speaker 1: but before we get there, I just want to continue
- 16:59Speaker 1: on with the praise music.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Fire the soundtrack, Fire the choices.
- 17:04Speaker 2: It was perfect. Yeah, like and and it's a lot
- 17:10Speaker 2: of songs in the soundtrack, you know, it's not like
- 17:13Speaker 2: a lot of background music that we that I remember.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Orchestral always right, like, very.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Well done with those songs, very well done. I was over.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I was in the joint, nod in my head, rapping
- 17:25Speaker 2: along everything, like yeah, you know.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Justin Thing was also the director for Dear White People.
- 17:31Speaker 1: He directed the TV.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Show Okay, well I'll watch some of that. Yeah, did
- 17:34Speaker 2: you that's not that's not something you're gonna notice. The
- 17:38Speaker 2: director did the shy that that you might notice them on,
- 17:42Speaker 2: like Dear White People is in one of those shows
- 17:44Speaker 2: you're gonna notice the director and they weren't really you know,
- 17:46Speaker 2: it was like where student needs to get these out there.
- 17:48Speaker 1: We also directed that This is a White Man by
- 17:51Speaker 1: the way, But he also directed one of my favorite
- 17:53Speaker 1: shows at the time, Anyway, Run the World that I looked.
- 17:57Speaker 2: At pictures of Justin. I'm not sure if Justin is
- 17:58Speaker 2: you know, straight up know, I don't know. He mixed yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 2: you know there's something.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Oh he's Filipinos Navian and something else.
- 18:09Speaker 2: There we go, all right, nice, very good, very good.
- 18:14Speaker 4: Now it's starting to make more sense.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Sor yes, definitely is.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Yeah, he has a lot of.
- 18:19Speaker 1: He has because I'm on now, I'm on his website
- 18:21Speaker 1: right now, which he has set up like an old
- 18:23Speaker 1: angel Fire page from like two thousand and one.
- 18:25Speaker 3: It's very strange how he.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Has this set up.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But point is well directed, well acted. The dialogue is
- 18:34Speaker 1: tremendous in how and less about how stronger than us,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but how it's delivered.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah, people deliver the ship.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Marlon is delivering the ship out of some very basic lines.
- 18:46Speaker 1: At some points, Yes, he's not saying nothing.
- 18:51Speaker 2: He got fucking said that.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like wow, Okay, Like fans, I.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Think are gonna really love this movie.
- 18:58Speaker 1: If you're football, and that's the that's the that's the
- 19:01Speaker 1: other overriding line about this movie. It's really about It
- 19:05Speaker 1: also is about the cult of personality and the cold
- 19:08Speaker 1: of personality within the Cuote religion of football, because.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Especially in this country, because.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yes we you know, football is essentially akin to religion,
- 19:18Speaker 1: is essentially God. For a lot of people, it is
- 19:20Speaker 1: potentially it is the lifeblood of a lot of folks.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It literally is maybe the only glue that's holding certain
- 19:27Speaker 1: families together, I understand.
- 19:29Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm as someone who grew up in Texas,
- 19:32Speaker 2: you know, a football state if there ever was one,
- 19:36Speaker 2: and as someone who grew up a big fan of
- 19:38Speaker 2: the Oilers, you know, in Houston, and now I'm rialking
- 19:41Speaker 2: about the Texas now. But you know, I like football.
- 19:43Speaker 2: But the way that football obsesses, you know, like absorbed
- 19:50Speaker 2: the life of some of my friends has always been
- 19:53Speaker 2: so interesting to me because I don't think there's anything
- 19:56Speaker 2: in my life. I mean, I'm obsessed with like music
- 19:57Speaker 2: and DJ and stuff like that, but something that I don't,
- 20:02Speaker 2: you know, I'm not doing. It's like something that I'm watching.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I've never been that obsessed with anything, you know that's
- 20:10Speaker 2: but football.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It's the reason why the NFL is a multiple dollar story, right.
- 20:16Speaker 2: They know how to sell it. They know how to
- 20:19Speaker 2: sell it to you know, lap it up and for
- 20:21Speaker 2: washed athletes, you know, and people who think they still
- 20:24Speaker 2: got an athlete just they're gonna eat this movie alive.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, They're gonna love it.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And it's very football. But like even if you're not
- 20:32Speaker 1: a football fan, you're still going.
- 20:34Speaker 2: To oh yeah, cause it's not it's not like it's
- 20:36Speaker 2: not like any given Sunday or anything of that nature.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And as someone who loves like NFL films, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 2: that's when they know how to shoot that. Like I
- 20:45Speaker 2: don't like watching regular football, but I will watch NFL films,
- 20:49Speaker 2: you know, the Sunday after when they recap all the
- 20:51Speaker 2: games and the dudes talking and they have that high
- 20:53Speaker 2: definition film. This is not on that level. I don't
- 20:57Speaker 2: know if it's on any given Sunday level, but it's
- 20:59Speaker 2: very well done football for film, you know. Like I say,
- 21:03Speaker 2: people who love football will be and ASA said, the
- 21:08Speaker 2: culture and cult of football is really captured super well
- 21:12Speaker 2: on this. Yeah, so I think that's gonna appeal to
- 21:16Speaker 2: you know, football fanatics very much so.
- 21:19Speaker 4: And I like the run time. I don't I didn't
- 21:22Speaker 4: think the run time was too long.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Again, I have notes that I will express about certain
- 21:27Speaker 1: things that happened during that runtime, but generally like it
- 21:30Speaker 1: wasn't like too long, too short, Like I.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Was like, okay, y'all no perfect, definitely another.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Y'all did good editing unlike other Okay, I heard that
- 21:38Speaker 4: unlike other films.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna keep dogging this moment. Listen, do what you
- 21:43Speaker 2: gotta do, because first, for me, easily yeah yeah, I
- 21:47Speaker 2: mean it leaped fraud me. He's seventeen.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Well that's not hard to do.
- 21:51Speaker 2: But I mean, for worse, it was hard to do.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Seventeen was definitely.
- 22:02Speaker 4: It's more worse ones.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It definitely is.
- 22:05Speaker 1: But that I see, you know, for the same reasons
- 22:07Speaker 1: that Ben and I had a great time, but also
- 22:10Speaker 1: the reasons where you get a minus, you get negative points.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I already said it. There are things that.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Are wholly unexplained, and the film does not care to
- 22:25Speaker 1: go back or even give you a hint.
- 22:27Speaker 4: And and again this is not about oh I can't
- 22:31Speaker 4: I can't get it.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I don't understand.
- 22:32Speaker 4: No, it was just that didn't make sense and not
- 22:35Speaker 4: even made sense.
- 22:36Speaker 2: It's it's like, and it's not one of those things
- 22:38Speaker 2: where it's, oh, I can't wait to distruss this, what
- 22:41Speaker 2: did that mean? Because it's not. It's not one of those.
- 22:44Speaker 2: It's very straightforward in what it's saying, and you know,
- 22:47Speaker 2: and what the hidden themes I guess that the movie
- 22:50Speaker 2: are those that.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Hitden's very over.
- 22:52Speaker 2: It's very over.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Even when the know vertns, I was still asking what
- 22:56Speaker 4: is going on?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Why is like? What am I seeing? Like I was,
- 22:59Speaker 3: I was.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Questioning this and I think that's why I love it.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And damn Kubrick is coming up a lot right now
- 23:05Speaker 2: because we just reference ought the Strange Love and this
- 23:08Speaker 2: reminds me in ways of a clockwork Orange because the
- 23:12Speaker 2: clockwork Orange is so fucking strange this movie.
- 23:17Speaker 4: This movie is so strange.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the great him is strange, but it's incredible in
- 23:24Speaker 1: his strangeness. Yes, but it's also a negative five points
- 23:28Speaker 1: for how strange it is at times.
- 23:30Speaker 2: And yeah, and without spoiling anything, the ending, the last
- 23:34Speaker 2: twenty minutes of this film are just like I thoroughly
- 23:39Speaker 2: enjoyed them. I thought, you know, I was like, this
- 23:41Speaker 2: is fantastic. But at the same time, okay, a laugh,
- 23:46Speaker 2: I have a laugh.
- 23:47Speaker 4: I didn't know if I enjoyed it, and I was
- 23:49Speaker 4: just like, why is this happening right now? Like it
- 23:52Speaker 4: was just decisions being made that I'm like, why is
- 23:55Speaker 4: this character doing that.
- 24:00Speaker 2: With words?
- 24:00Speaker 4: In the words of the boondogs?
- 24:03Speaker 2: What did he do to make them niggas that mad?
- 24:12Speaker 3: Yes there.
- 24:18Speaker 1: And listen, there are my only reaction to the things
- 24:21Speaker 1: that were unexplained were like, I'm going to come up
- 24:24Speaker 1: with something to explain it away, because I almost feel
- 24:26Speaker 1: that by the end they were just like, we gotta
- 24:28Speaker 1: do something with the.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Rest of these carrises.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Let's get it popping, like.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Okay, okay, Like literally, I think after every act there
- 24:40Speaker 1: was something wild happening and I looked at each other
- 24:43Speaker 1: and said, okay, and you just have to accept it.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So on that basis this it got notes, So you
- 24:52Speaker 1: got some negative points that even in that it was
- 24:56Speaker 1: still hilarious.
- 24:58Speaker 4: It's still hilariou and I think that's a that takes
- 25:02Speaker 4: that takes a talent.
- 25:04Speaker 3: There's like this.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Beautiful shot at the end that is so nonsensical. But
- 25:08Speaker 2: then I made this joke about it, the thought that
- 25:10Speaker 2: out I can't tell y'all without spoiling. But it's just
- 25:13Speaker 2: so hilarious to me now, so that is like it
- 25:16Speaker 2: made it even better.
- 25:21Speaker 4: It's so like, yo, it's off the wall. I recommend
- 25:27Speaker 4: not expect this ship at all.
- 25:28Speaker 3: That's what it was.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I recommend this, I fully guess, you know. Going in,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I know I was looking at Reddit. I didn't really
- 25:35Speaker 2: read them, but I saw like pages of pages of
- 25:37Speaker 2: people like, yo, what's your hymn theory? What you know,
- 25:39Speaker 2: what do you think this is all to be about?
- 25:41Speaker 2: And I saw a lot of people guess what it
- 25:43Speaker 2: was gonna be about, because to me, I kind of
- 25:46Speaker 2: figured that going in, But once I sat down ten
- 25:48Speaker 2: minutes into the movie, I was like, Okay, that's what
- 25:50Speaker 2: this is about, right, Yeah, and then that's what it
- 25:52Speaker 2: was about.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah, And we you know, we guess that part, but
- 25:54Speaker 3: that didn't matter. How journey.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It's just it's just like we talked down about the dialogue.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Sure it ain't the greatest, but that motherfucking marlind is delivering.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Is this plot complex.
- 26:06Speaker 3: That dialogue?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Bro? Is there like some you know, deep hidden message
- 26:11Speaker 2: behind the film? Not really? But is it wildly entertaining
- 26:16Speaker 2: and doing it? Yes?
- 26:18Speaker 3: And because of that, I recommend this film.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I rate it.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I'm hovering between the B plus and minus.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah again, just because.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Of the outrageousness of it all.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And for me, it goes like not not Razzi level,
- 26:33Speaker 2: you know, where it's like one of the worst films
- 26:35Speaker 2: of the year, but it's also like this is either
- 26:38Speaker 2: one of the best films of the year or one
- 26:40Speaker 2: of the most like C plus films of the year.
- 26:44Speaker 1: But you know what, it's not parody either. It's like,
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's not parody. It's not like, oh, y'all just trying
- 26:49Speaker 1: to be a bad film. Lo, no, no, no, it's serious.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But it's also like, y'all are y'all are out of
- 26:55Speaker 1: your fucking mind?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's also like and I think I like
- 26:59Speaker 2: that because I'm also I'm a big fan of unexplained ship.
- 27:02Speaker 2: You know, like, I'm not one of those people who
- 27:05Speaker 2: was mad at Lost because they didn't explain everything, even
- 27:08Speaker 2: though they explained pretty much everything. But a lot of
- 27:10Speaker 2: people are like, oh when it Flind, isn't that? And
- 27:12Speaker 2: I didn't care because I just grew to love the
- 27:14Speaker 2: characters are Lost and grew to love the journey, and
- 27:16Speaker 2: it was all you know, that's what I loved about it.
- 27:19Speaker 2: And this was I love seeing Marlon Wayne's eating up
- 27:21Speaker 2: scenery and everything that he was in. He is one
- 27:27Speaker 2: of them to do it after that scenery, like he
- 27:30Speaker 2: is full pac Man on that joint.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And every time he showed up on screen, I'm like,
- 27:35Speaker 4: what is this niggas going next?
- 27:37Speaker 2: And I can't wait.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I can't wait till he says something out of control.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I can't wait till he violates these people like I
- 27:44Speaker 1: coulnot wait, Like, what is this man about to do
- 27:46Speaker 1: or say?
- 27:47Speaker 2: Next? I need that shooting range outfit I needed.
- 27:51Speaker 1: There's gonna be there may be a lot of cosplay
- 27:54Speaker 1: or at least or maybe not or maybe not.
- 27:57Speaker 2: This thing could go all kinds of ways.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Maybe, but gotta be some. There's gonna be some Halloween costumes.
- 28:03Speaker 2: All definitely gonna be some Halloween costumes.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Hell, yes, all for this movie because I think, you
- 28:08Speaker 1: know what, I do think this could potentially bring like
- 28:10Speaker 1: a more cult classic approach to it. And again, I
- 28:15Speaker 1: really do wish the best for this film because it is.
- 28:18Speaker 1: It is actually very good, and I do hope it
- 28:21Speaker 1: really makes his budget back and more like it was
- 28:24Speaker 1: like a twenty seven million budget. I really do hope
- 28:26Speaker 1: it makes that and it really Marlin's already a big star,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but I really hope it catapults him further into people
- 28:32Speaker 1: really understanding his level of craft and really understanding like,
- 28:37Speaker 1: Marlon is him right, He is really truly him. He
- 28:40Speaker 1: is that guy, and I just want to make sure
- 28:43Speaker 1: that he gets the respect and the flowers he and
- 28:45Speaker 1: the rest of the cast deserved for this.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's great because the Way's about to get
- 28:50Speaker 2: this big award where the whole family is being inducted for,
- 28:54Speaker 2: you know, for their legacy, and you know, for him
- 28:56Speaker 2: to drop this right now to top that off, I
- 28:58Speaker 2: think that's very beautiful because, like you said, he deserves it,
- 29:01Speaker 2: but that whole family really does deserve, you know, the
- 29:05Speaker 2: credit that they're getting right now because.
- 29:07Speaker 3: The open doors for all of us.
- 29:09Speaker 2: And they just are legendary, you know, the level of talent,
- 29:14Speaker 2: you know, is just outrageous, you know. And Marlin for
- 29:18Speaker 2: the one for the longest. I mean, I remember Marlon
- 29:21Speaker 2: when he was the DJ on in Living Color and
- 29:24Speaker 2: he couldn't DJ, you know, they just had him standing
- 29:26Speaker 2: up there faking like he was a DJ, and that's
- 29:28Speaker 2: how he got on. And so I was like to
- 29:29Speaker 2: see him go with that Sean that might have been
- 29:31Speaker 2: se Sean was the DJ. Yeah, So Marlon was even
- 29:34Speaker 2: a like Marlon was like, you know, the forgotten child
- 29:37Speaker 2: pretty much. And for him to now be Marlon Wayans,
- 29:41Speaker 2: you know, that's really great to see. Man.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Well he was we're brothers.
- 29:45Speaker 4: We're happy, and we singing and we're.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Color he was there for that.
- 29:49Speaker 2: No, but that's that was Marlin and Seawan, the brothers. No,
- 29:54Speaker 2: the brothers Brothers is Keenan.
- 29:56Speaker 4: And and talking about the TV show O, right.
- 30:00Speaker 2: But that's what I'm saying that. Well, I guess that's
- 30:02Speaker 2: the thing. Their legacy is so long that like they
- 30:05Speaker 2: have different generations, you know, like where it's like Marlin
- 30:09Speaker 2: and Sean.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Were there's a generation that do not know Sean. It's
- 30:15Speaker 4: like there's a whole group that.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Don't know what this man can do.
- 30:18Speaker 4: And that's why I'm like, yeah, I gotta go see this.
- 30:20Speaker 2: And just like there's a whole group that don't know
- 30:22Speaker 2: Keenan and Damon well, I mean people Damon stayed after
- 30:26Speaker 2: you know, my wife and kids and yeah, yeah, Keenan
- 30:28Speaker 2: is more like the one who people like you know
- 30:31Speaker 2: and it's like you don't know who this is. He's
- 30:34Speaker 2: the godfather of it and what of the funniest still like,
- 30:37Speaker 2: oh my god, what do you rate him? Then? I mean,
- 30:42Speaker 2: if you know, Tomato is definitely you know, I mean
- 30:46Speaker 2: if you're.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Getting a full Tomato's and that's good and Tomatoland all
- 30:50Speaker 1: the way.
- 30:50Speaker 2: And it's like I'm waving between a B plus and
- 30:58Speaker 2: a B. Mindy. You know, like I said, it's definitely
- 31:00Speaker 2: one of the most entertaining films in the year. Top
- 31:02Speaker 2: ten entertainment easy, probably top five. Also, you know, as
- 31:08Speaker 2: a person like who I said earlier, I don't really
- 31:10Speaker 2: care about explanations. This is a movie for me because
- 31:14Speaker 2: it's not really killing me. I can actually, I know.
- 31:17Speaker 4: You said you weren't sure, but I can definitely see
- 31:19Speaker 4: this again, No.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I think I can't. I just need to see it.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I got a matrix of the Black Ass Theater.
- 31:24Speaker 1: You know, I have to make sure because there again,
- 31:27Speaker 1: there there are many black black American elements.
- 31:30Speaker 2: That, yeah, I need to see this, and we would
- 31:33Speaker 2: like with theater, like I gotta made sure, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 2: I don't know gold Brooklet. I hate that one downtown,
- 31:38Speaker 2: but I might have to do it because just it's
- 31:42Speaker 2: quite egroish. Actually, I think they closed that one, the
- 31:45Speaker 2: one I hated it they did.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I talked about Alamo Alimos down.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Because they you know that ain't Negro. No, it was
- 31:51Speaker 2: the one that used to be downtown. It was tight.
- 31:53Speaker 2: They had this tight ass stairwell. I hated it, but yeah, no,
- 31:56Speaker 2: I think they closed that joint so damn. Oh well,
- 31:59Speaker 2: I gotta find one. But yeah, no, definitely I'll see
- 32:02Speaker 2: him again. Yeah I will.
- 32:04Speaker 3: We're good, very good.
