- 0:12Hello, friends. Here we are a new day, a new
- 0:17chance to gather together in the quietness of whatever moment
- 0:21you've chosen to press play and you and I are going to do what
- 0:26the title of this podcast suggests.
- 0:28We are going to read a chapter today of God's word and we are
- 0:35reading through the Book of Luke.
- 0:38We are walking the streets with Jesus.
- 0:42We are hearing the objections. We are hearing the or and
- 0:46amazement of the crowds. We are sensing the growing
- 0:50disquiet in the religious leaders.
- 0:55And we are seeing Jesus gracious patience?
- 1:01And so full of energy to continually love and heal and
- 1:06today is no different. So join me, as we had back to
- 1:10hear and experience the Deeds of our savior during his Earthly
- 1:15ministry, as we read together, Luke chapter 10,
- 1:29The Lord now chose 72 other disciples and sent them ahead in
- 1:35pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit.
- 1:38These were his instructions to them.
- 1:41The Harvest is great, but the workers are few.
- 1:45So prayed to the Lord, who is in charge of the Harvest, ask him
- 1:49to send more workers into his Fields.
- 1:52Now, go and remember that I am sending you out as Lambs Among
- 1:56Wolves, don't take any money. With you Nora Travelers bag nor
- 2:02an extra pair of sandals and don't stop to greet anyone on
- 2:06the road whenever you enter someone's home.
- 2:09First, say may God's. Peace be on this house, if those
- 2:13who live, there are peaceful, the blessing will stand.
- 2:17If they are not the blessing will return to you.
- 2:21Don't move around from home to home.
- 2:23Stay in one place eating and drinking what they provide don't
- 2:28hesitate to accept. Hospitality because those who
- 2:31work deserve their pay, if you enter a town and it welcomes,
- 2:35you eat, whatever is set before you heal the sick and tell them
- 2:41the kingdom of God is near you now.
- 2:44But if a town refuses to welcome you go out into its streets and
- 2:48say we wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show
- 2:54that we have abandoned you to your fate and know this the
- 2:58kingdom of God. God is near.
- 3:01I assure. You even Wicked.
- 3:03Sodom will be better off than such a town on Judgment Day.
- 3:06What sorrow awaits you chorazin and bethsaida for?
- 3:12If the Miracles I did in, you had been done in Wicked tire and
- 3:16sit on their people would have repented of their sins long ago,
- 3:20clothing themselves, and burlap, and throwing ashes on their
- 3:23heads to show their remorse. Yes, tire.
- 3:26And sit on, will be better off on Judgement Day than An you and
- 3:31you people of Capernaum, will you be honored in heaven?
- 3:35No, you will go down to the place of the Dead.
- 3:39Then he said to the disciples anyone who accepts your message
- 3:44is also accepting me and anyone who rejects you is rejecting me
- 3:49and anyone who rejects me is rejecting God who sent me.
- 3:55When the 72 disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him.
- 4:00Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name.
- 4:04Yes he told him. I saw Satan fall from Heaven,
- 4:09like lightning. Look, I have given you authority
- 4:14over all the power of the enemy and you can walk among snakes
- 4:18and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
- 4:23But don't Rejoice because evil spirits obey, you rejoice
- 4:28because your names are registered in heaven.
- 4:33At that same time, Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy
- 4:37Spirit and he said, I'll father Lord of Heaven and Earth thank
- 4:42you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise
- 4:45and clever and for revealing them to the childlike.
- 4:49Yes. Father it pleases you to do it
- 4:51this way. My father has entrusted
- 4:54everything to me, no one truly knows the son except the father,
- 4:59and no one truly knows the father except the son.
- 5:03And Those whom the son chooses to reveal him.
- 5:07Then when they were alone, he turned to the disciples and
- 5:10said, blessed are the eyes that? See what you have seen.
- 5:15I tell you many prophets and Kings longed to see what you
- 5:19see, but they didn't see it and they longed to hear what you
- 5:22hear, but they didn't hear it. One day, an expert in religious
- 5:28law. Stood up to test Jesus by asking
- 5:31him. This question teacher, what
- 5:34should I do to inherit eternal life?
- 5:37Jesus replied? What does the law of Moses say?
- 5:40How do you read it? The man answered, you must love
- 5:44the Lord, your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your
- 5:48strength and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself,
- 5:53right? Jesus told him do this and You
- 5:56will live the man wanted to justify his actions.
- 6:00So he asked Jesus and who is my neighbor?
- 6:05Jesus replied with a story. A Jewish man was traveling from
- 6:09Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by Bandits.
- 6:13They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left
- 6:16him half dead beside the road, but Chance a priest came along.
- 6:21But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other
- 6:24side of the road and passed him by a temple assistant walked
- 6:28over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on
- 6:32the other side. Then Spies Samaritan came along
- 6:37and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him, going over
- 6:42to him. The Samaritan soothe his wounds
- 6:44with olive oil and wine and bandaged them.
- 6:48Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn
- 6:51where he took care of him. The next day he handed The
- 6:55Innkeeper, two silver coins, telling him, take care of this
- 6:59man. If his bill runs higher than
- 7:01this, I'll pay you the next time I'm here.
- 7:04Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the
- 7:08man who was attacked by Bandits Jesus asked the man replied.
- 7:13The one who showed him Mercy. Then Jesus said yes, now go and
- 7:19do the same. As Jesus and the disciples
- 7:23continued on their way to Jerusalem.
- 7:25They came to a certain village where a woman named Martha
- 7:28welcomed him into her home. Her sister Mary sat at the
- 7:32Lord's feet listening to what he taught, but Martha was
- 7:36distracted by the big dinner. She was preparing, she came to
- 7:40Jesus and said, Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my
- 7:43sister just sits here while I do all the work?
- 7:47Tell her to come and help me. But the Lord said to her, my
- 7:51dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details.
- 7:57There is only one thing worth being concerned about Mary has
- 8:01discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.
- 8:17Jesus. I hear these words spoken to us
- 8:21my dear child. You are worried and upset over
- 8:24all these details. There is only one thing worth
- 8:28being concerned about. Jesus, let us hear those words
- 8:36because there are lots of details that we do worry about,
- 8:42but ultimately you are the only thing that is worthy of our
- 8:47concern. Draw us back to our heart being
- 8:52focused exclusively on you and your kingdoms matters.
- 8:59Thank you for Mary for her example.
- 9:04And may we sit at your feet and at your feet.
- 9:08Be transformed to love and to live lives of your kingdoms
- 9:13purpose, not the worries, and details of our days and the
- 9:18things that seem so important. But ultimately a transient,
- 9:26Thank you, Jesus, for the clarity that you bring, we pray
- 9:30that you would continually transform us and it's in your
- 9:34name that we pray. Amen.
