- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Sea Geek. This is episode 512.
- 0:19We'll be your host, Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:21Reyes. What a what is going on?
- 0:27What a crazy. What a crazy 5 minutes we just
- 0:33experienced. I don't even know.
- 0:36Can you just while I get all while I get a squared away here,
- 0:39can you just give the folks a just a very brief run down here?
- 0:45Yeah, I mean, we started and then your fancy Apple MacBook
- 0:51over there wanted to connect to something, some random network
- 0:55that was across the street out of a van or something.
- 0:59So now that that network has been forgotten, we're running it
- 1:06back. So we just got to, I don't know.
- 1:08I don't know if you heard anything that I was saying.
- 1:11I missed some stuff you were saying.
- 1:13So we're just going to clear the mechanism.
- 1:16So we're restarting here and as I hit go Live, I refresh my feed
- 1:24and I get the update that Alex Bregman signing with the Red
- 1:27Sox. So.
- 1:30Which I can't get anything to freaking load to get like an
- 1:33updated so. Maybe it was your?
- 1:34Internet. It's not mine.
- 1:36I checked it, it was 700. Unbelievable.
- 1:40OK. BPS or whatever.
- 1:42Let's pretend like the let's pretend like the the Bregman
- 1:49news hasn't happened. We'll get to it, but let's just
- 1:52run through the quick intro here real quick.
- 1:56Let's repeat. Wow, Nate, baseball season's
- 1:59here. The offseason's over.
- 2:02We're going to talk about some of our favorite moves of the
- 2:05offseason. I have a feeling that your first
- 2:09one is Corbin Burns. And I'm just going to go ahead
- 2:11and say that mine's jerks and Profar, but give me give me give
- 2:15me a give me a quick recap. Give me a quick recap and then
- 2:18we'll we'll pick back up where we where we left off.
- 2:21All right, Fair enough. Yeah.
- 2:22Love. Corbin Burns getting it done,
- 2:26saying I want to be here, gives the spot, says this is what this
- 2:31is what I need to make me happy. You know what I mean?
- 2:35And it wasn't about money and it was about it was about finding a
- 2:38place that he wanted to be at a location.
- 2:40Plus I saw a TikTok today that was like him throwing his first
- 2:44pen to Gabby Moreno and they got the teal hat going.
- 2:48It just, it fired me up, man. That's, that's my number.
- 2:52That's my numero Uno. That's probably my favorite,
- 2:56favorite move this offseason because it was out of the blue
- 3:00Diamondbacks. Just they weren't even in the
- 3:02hunt, man. Like they weren't even in the
- 3:04race. Next thing you knew, Corbin's
- 3:06like, yo, let's make this happen.
- 3:09And I think Tori Lavilla said it was like 3 days later and just
- 3:12bang, got a deal done, got. It done, as I already alluded
- 3:18to, we, we were already live and I, we, we each shared our first
- 3:23picks for favorite offseason moves.
- 3:25And if you are with us, I mentioned Jericks and Profar and
- 3:30again, just a quick recap on my thoughts there.
- 3:32I just think this is a great fit because one, because of the fit
- 3:37itself and 2:00 because of the need.
- 3:39I think with a Cunha rehabbing still trying to get trying to
- 3:42get him straight, trying to get him squared away.
- 3:45Obviously you want him at at maximum health, you want him to
- 3:48be at his very best. SO alleviate some of that
- 3:52pressure, bring in pro far, let him do his thing, let him move
- 3:55around where he needs to be and let him just be himself.
- 3:59I think that I think the personality that he brings to
- 4:01Atlanta is just a perfect fit. I made the comp earlier to a guy
- 4:06like Jock Peterson. I'm not going to say he's gonna,
- 4:09he's gonna fill the role the same way, but he brings a
- 4:12similar style. He brings a similar energy to
- 4:15that team, to that city, which I think, as I mentioned when the
- 4:18signing happened originally, is just a perfect fit.
- 4:21So I'm I'm very much looking forward to watching how he
- 4:25meshes, assuming it it goes well.
- 4:29I'm just, I'm, I'm looking forward to seeing how well he
- 4:32meshes in Atlanta with the Braves.
- 4:35Yeah, 1000%. I mean, I love I love the role,
- 4:40I love the I love the fit. I love the role.
- 4:43I love the fact that like the Braves look like I don't think a
- 4:47ton of people outside of Braves fans, maybe some Braves fans
- 4:54realize that like last year was a fluke, man, Like they don't
- 4:56need much. They already got a really good
- 4:57roster. They don't really need a ton.
- 5:01So this was a need. They got it done.
- 5:05A a was like, what do you say? You said something crazy.
- 5:08It was like pro far was like top three hitter on the market,
- 5:13something like that. So yeah, good, good move.
- 5:19Yeah, we're going to just fly through these, huh?
- 5:21We got to get to. Well, we were already wanting to
- 5:24fly through them because we got a, we got a nice juicy draft
- 5:27waiting for us if we do. If we can get a good juicy
- 5:30draft, who's your next pick? I mean, I'm going to I'm going
- 5:35to say it just because I'm jealous as a Yankees fan.
- 5:38But the Cubs getting Kyle Tucker, I think it's a great
- 5:41move. I think I don't know if they're
- 5:45going to resign him, You know what I mean?
- 5:46I don't know if he's going to be a Cub after this year.
- 5:48I don't I don't know. But like at least they're doing
- 5:50something. The Central's up for grabs.
- 5:52Like, you know, I you know, it's seemingly like the Brewers just
- 5:57seemingly always at the top and always seem to have like a 5 or
- 6:016 game lead in the division in September.
- 6:04But like, overall, I feel like that division is very up for
- 6:08grabs. So, you know, the Brewers have
- 6:10had some subtractions. The Cardinals are in an
- 6:13atrocious downward spiral. I don't know what's going on
- 6:17there. So for the Cubs to step in and
- 6:20be like, you know what, let's do this.
- 6:21Let's fill in some gaps and, and go get a guy that like, is Gold
- 6:27Glove contention, MVP contention.
- 6:30Like, the guy's a stud. He's a $400 million player all
- 6:34day and I like that they went for it.
- 6:37I like that they got them. So give me that for numero dos.
- 6:44You cool If I call an audible, this is this is already just
- 6:47been a wacky episode. I'm going to make it even
- 6:49wackier. I'm going to cut us off at 2A
- 6:51piece. I'm going to give you my my
- 6:52second favorite pick and then we'll get it that we had three
- 6:55lined up each. But then this Bregman thing came
- 6:58through and I want to make sure we get to that.
- 7:00But fittingly enough, my second pick, my second in no particular
- 7:04order, but the the fit, or the pick rather, that I have I'll
- 7:08stumbled upon here for #2 Garrett Crochet, for the Red Sox
- 7:13to be able to go out and get Garrett Crochet and not.
- 7:16Early too, like they seem like they snagged it early.
- 7:19They snagged it early, which I admit did give, I think, fans a
- 7:24little bit of false hope. Thanks, ESPN.
- 7:27Thanks for the update. No, they gave us a little bit of
- 7:31false hope to think that the the front office was going to go on
- 7:34an absolute tear this offseason, which they I'm now that Bregman
- 7:38is official, I'm going to go ahead and say that this was a a
- 7:42a very successful offseason given.
- 7:45I think the lack of hope that many of us fans and and people
- 7:50in the organization, the the lack of hope that I think that
- 7:54existed there based on the track record of the the previous 3-4
- 7:59years of the front office in the way they've handled things.
- 8:04But again, to not give up any of your top three guys, you're
- 8:07getting you're getting a your opening day starter presumably
- 8:12almost exclusively read when it comes to to baseball savant
- 8:17analytics. I mean he's 93rd percentile and
- 8:20chase and whiff rate 98th percent in 98th percentile in in
- 8:25strikeout percentage, 87th and walk percentage and he's
- 8:30projected to finish in the top five in all of baseball and
- 8:33strikeouts this year. So you're going to get a guy
- 8:35that's going to give you 170 ish innings.
- 8:37He's going to give you an ERA or probably right around 3 and he's
- 8:40going to give you north of 202 hundred 10220 strikeouts.
- 8:48I just think for being able to get multiple years of this guy
- 8:53and give up as little as you did, considering what you could
- 8:56have given up, I think was a great fit.
- 8:59Shame on the White Sox. Shame, shame on the White Sox
- 9:03player. We're not here to we're not here
- 9:04to trash the White Sox on this on this given day.
- 9:10With that said, let's switch gears here to what is now the
- 9:13headline. The Red Sox news just came in
- 9:17minutes ago moment, mere moments.
- 9:21The Red Sox have signed Alex Bregman and, and forgive me for,
- 9:26for lack of information we've got here, but the deal is being
- 9:32reported as being three years for $120 million with two opt
- 9:37outs. So, you know, I, I don't know,
- 9:46I, I'll be completely honest, I know probably 2 weeks ago I said
- 9:50that I'd, I genuinely believed, I, I felt that he was coming to
- 9:54Boston. But really the last two weeks it
- 9:57just seemed like radio silence. It, it really seemed like the
- 10:00Red Sox had made the offer that they wanted to make.
- 10:02And we're ultimately going to, to leave on the table if he
- 10:06wanted it or not. They weren't going to really
- 10:08budget. And then literally from the
- 10:12clouds, from the clouds, we get the update that he is signing
- 10:16with the Red Sox. So it's certainly been a roller
- 10:19coaster for for me, for other Red Sox fans where you think
- 10:26we're certainly going to get somebody.
- 10:28We're going to have a third baseman or who knows he who
- 10:32knows if this whole second baseman thing with Bregman's
- 10:34actually going to play out. But you think you're going to
- 10:37get somebody and then you think that we're getting nobody.
- 10:41And then like I said, from from out of nowhere, seemingly you
- 10:44get the update. So what are your thoughts on
- 10:47Bregman to the to the Red Sox? I'm trying to figure out what
- 10:50these, what these opt outs are. Are they?
- 10:56You said there's two. Two opt outs, three years, what
- 11:04would I say, 120 million? I'm assuming they're player opt
- 11:07outs, 2 opt outs. I can't see why the Red Sox
- 11:11would. I can't imagine a club option
- 11:15there. So yeah, I'm going to say player
- 11:22no prep off the cuff. I think it makes sense.
- 11:26I think it's AI think it's a very smart deal.
- 11:29I think it's a very smart deal, A. 40 million aavi.
- 11:35Know it's a lot, it's a lot, but I, I think the commitment it,
- 11:41it, it doesn't feel like it's over the top, you know what I
- 11:44mean? The, the Red Sox had money to
- 11:47spend. You're getting Bregman in my
- 11:53mind before the before the slide happens, before the regression
- 11:57comes. And if he is willing to play
- 12:02second base. I'm, I'm trying to figure that
- 12:08out, man. Like I'm trying to imagine him
- 12:10playing second base. Does that open up his options,
- 12:14if you know what I mean? Like if he does play second base
- 12:16and has a great year and then decides to opt out, like does
- 12:20that open up the checkbook for more teams, more opportunities?
- 12:25I don't know. I mean, like he's obviously
- 12:27still athletic enough and capable of of playing up the
- 12:31middle, played shortstop in college and and played it well.
- 12:36You know, the the third base was most likely just due to Korea
- 12:43being Korea in in Houston. So like, I think he can handle
- 12:49that. I, I wouldn't be too concerned.
- 12:51I like that. I mean, it gives them
- 12:56flexibility to, to not fully commit to Rafi Devers being
- 13:03plugged at a full time DH quite yet.
- 13:07You know what I mean? And that's something to wear.
- 13:09Like, I know I've been back and forth on it.
- 13:11I'm sure you have as a Sox fan, it's like you wonder, is that a
- 13:16smart thing to do? Like is we've talked about like
- 13:20is, is Rafi Devers capable of doing that mentally?
- 13:24Does he need to be out in the field?
- 13:25Does he get too much in his head?
- 13:27Because in my mind, watching him from the outside perspective, it
- 13:31looks like he does kind of get in his own head a little often.
- 13:35So I think this gives some flexibility in that front and it
- 13:43gives an already pretty decent lineup more depth.
- 13:48So there's not much to not like. It's just it's a perfect fit in
- 13:57my mind. It's a team that had money to
- 13:58spend and not on. I think a lot of these other
- 14:04teams that were in the conversation needed to have the
- 14:07length and years to make it make sense.
- 14:08But like, did you want to commit to an Alex Brigman that long?
- 14:12And they didn't want to, clearly.
- 14:14So I think this was screw the 40 million a year of AV like
- 14:18whatever. I think this is a great fit.
- 14:22We get. We just got an update from Jeff
- 14:26Passan. Alex Bregman's three-year, $120
- 14:30million deal with Boston includes deferred money.
- 14:32The $40 million salary is 10 million plus more per year than
- 14:37others were offering Red Sox land the best free agent left on
- 14:41the market. Yeah, you know, the whole, the
- 14:45whole. Well, before I share my thoughts
- 14:48here, Jacob's got a a great question in the chat.
- 14:51How big a role did Alex Scorer rekindled relationship come into
- 14:55play? I think I think it was made very
- 14:59clear. I, I don't think Alex Bread,
- 15:01excuse me, Alex Kora hid at all when it came to his opinions,
- 15:05his thoughts on wanting Alex Bregman.
- 15:07I think he made that very public.
- 15:09And I think it was really just a, a hang up in the front office
- 15:13and and the front office could not decide what they what they
- 15:17wanted to do. They were not as much on board,
- 15:20which you have to understand like that's that's Kora's guy,
- 15:23but they the guy that those guys in the front office aren't
- 15:27emotionally connected, aren't aren't tied to to Bregman really
- 15:31in any way. So you you have to think that
- 15:35they were, they were butting heads a little bit there on, on
- 15:37what needs actually needed to be addressed versus maybe more of a
- 15:42once in in Kors eyes. But I think Cora probably made
- 15:49the argument like, hey, this is more than just me wanting my
- 15:52guy. This is the fact that you you
- 15:56meaning the front office promised us a, an impact
- 15:59right-handed bat. And this way he we check
- 16:02multiple boxes here. We get a we get a, we get a
- 16:05leader, we get a, we get an impact right-handed bat, a bat
- 16:08that's going to play very, very well at Fenway Park.
- 16:12And you get, like you said, you get somebody that can provide
- 16:16now a little bit of flexibility. He's not going to serve as
- 16:19really a block to anything. That's that's, I would imagine
- 16:24the front office is is trying to see play out this year with the
- 16:27younger talent. Bregman can either slide in at
- 16:29third on a on a day off for Raffy.
- 16:31He can play second, which like I said, we'll see if that actually
- 16:35pans out. It it, it very well may and then
- 16:39he can also slide in as ADH. There's so many ways that you
- 16:43can go with this. So I think it provides more
- 16:46flexibility than I think people are are giving credit for.
- 16:50So it'll be it'll be interesting to see.
- 16:52I'm just, I'm just glad that you're able, you're able to cap
- 16:58off your offseason with this deal because like I like I was
- 17:03just talking about with the crochet signing or trade rather,
- 17:06you know, that mixed in with a couple of the other deals they
- 17:09made, I was going to have to get to a point where I was going to
- 17:13have to convince myself that. This was a good offseason.
- 17:16What was the grade before this deal?
- 17:20Like AB yeah, yeah, maybe even AB minus and I I say that
- 17:26strictly because of what again, was promised going into the
- 17:31offseason. They they said, we're going to
- 17:33we're going to shore up our defense.
- 17:34We're going to, we're going to go get we're going to address
- 17:37the rotation. We're going to get a
- 17:38right-handed impact back because our line UPS too, too lefty
- 17:42heavy. You know, they did bits and
- 17:44pieces there, maybe not to the full effect that Red Sox fans
- 17:47are hoping for. So I'm like, OK, we'll give you
- 17:50like ABB minus, but this just takes it up a notch.
- 17:55And so like I said, I'm, I'm really glad that you can sort of
- 17:59crown your your offseason with this move.
- 18:02I think this will this is going to pan out very well.
- 18:05Like I said, that his bats going to play very well at Fenway just
- 18:09to a big, big move for the Sox here.
- 18:13And and what you could really call like the 11th hour because
- 18:17we like we talked about, you don't want to get too deep into
- 18:20spring training and and still be without a home if you're a
- 18:24player. We saw it, we saw it play out
- 18:25last year, right? So really what you, like I said,
- 18:29you could call the 11th hour. They got it in.
- 18:32And now he's going to be able to to fully relax, fully know where
- 18:37he is and just be present. Work on getting better, work on
- 18:40getting more comfortable in that clubhouse with those guys and
- 18:44just go, you know, full steam ahead once, once, once things
- 18:48get going. You want to run me through?
- 18:51Run me through your dream lineup.
- 18:54Oh boy. Well, I mean, we are talking
- 18:58Bregman right now. I don't I don't know how clear
- 19:02I've made it, if at all, but I to to what you were saying
- 19:07earlier. I'm in the camp of wanting Raffi
- 19:10as a as a full time TH I'm. I'm at that point now like I.
- 19:13Think it I think it Any Sox fan that's not in that camp is a
- 19:18little a little stubborn, you know what I mean?
- 19:22Little reluctant to change, but you haven't seen anything
- 19:27defensively that is worth the argument of keeping him there.
- 19:31It's. It's just very he's it's very
- 19:33strange, Like he'll make the most incredible play you've seen
- 19:37in a given week or even maybe even month.
- 19:40But then just the routine stuff, it's like it's like Devers, we
- 19:44got to we got to be better than this buddy.
- 19:47But yeah, I mean, you're going to have I would I would think
- 19:53they're going to slot him in. I mean, you you lead off with
- 19:59with Jaron, we slot him in at 2GO Devers 3 Casas Casas 4.
- 20:11I mean stories another right-handed bat there.
- 20:13But you don't know what you're going to get health wise.
- 20:14So you can't necessarily count on that being a a stagger left
- 20:18right. I'd almost rather have a brave 4
- 20:22over Casas. That's just me.
- 20:28I don't really. I'm not there on Tristan Cassis
- 20:31yet. So like, yeah, I could be wrong.
- 20:34That's fair. Like I could be very rough.
- 20:35He could have a breakout year and make me my words.
- 20:38I'm just I'm not quite. I haven't seen enough to be like
- 20:41yeah, slaughter minute 4 like I just.
- 20:44I mean, he can be I've. Seen more out of William Brayu
- 20:46in his rookie year than than I've seen in Cassis over this.
- 20:50You know, weird off and on on the field these last few years.
- 20:55Sure, but I mean, if he can stay on the field, he can he can give
- 20:58you a 30. He can give you a 3000 easy.
- 21:02So yeah, yeah. So I mean I've seen some
- 21:04projections, some predictions rather that have them even close
- 21:08to 40. I see it in the chat actually
- 21:11put Bregman it to Bridge of October podcast says put Bregman
- 21:14it to Casas could hit 40, though.
- 21:16You know, it's it's it's a good problem to have.
- 21:19I'll say that now, like I said, now that you added your you got
- 21:22your right-handed bat that you wanted.
- 21:25It's these things will figure themselves out.
- 21:28You'll you'll figure this out in spring training.
- 21:30And even if you don't by the end of of spring training, maybe it
- 21:33takes a few weeks. That's how the how these games
- 21:36and seasons always go. Sometimes it just takes a little
- 21:38bit time to figure it out. Once you find your stride, once
- 21:41you find your lineup or line UPS plural that work, then you can
- 21:46then you just go full speed ahead and you you plug in the
- 21:50gaps and, and address the needs as you go.
- 21:53But to, to go into the season with, with neat, with having
- 21:57more than you need is always a better problem than not having
- 22:00enough. And I think with the addition of
- 22:02Bregman, they're in a much better position offensively and
- 22:07again, based on where he ends up defensively over the course of
- 22:10the year, in a better spot defensively as well.
- 22:16Duran Bregman, Rafi Cassis Story Warrior Brayu 79 Just do
- 22:29whatever you want, right? Just do whatever you want.
- 22:34Rafael is somewhere in there. Yeah, I I would slot, I mean I'd
- 22:39slot Rafaela probably 9 roll the line up over.
- 22:42Double, double, have that lead off.
- 22:44Yeah, have that athleticism there at the bottom.
- 22:47Yoshida's hitting seven in that line up.
- 22:49That's that's depth. That's some depth.
- 22:53If if Yoshida's still even on the line up or in the line up by
- 22:56opening day, I'd I'd. I don't get the treatment, I
- 23:00don't get the mistreatment personally.
- 23:01Hey, don't. I don't get it.
- 23:03I think he's pretty Dang good. I mean, I'll be honest there,
- 23:06there were games that I was watching this last year where I,
- 23:11or maybe it was the year before where I just got extremely
- 23:15frustrated where I was like, does this guy do anything else
- 23:22but roll over baseballs? Anything else?
- 23:27You could have had Alex for Dugo in your lineup, yeah.
- 23:30Yeah, that could have I. Think he broke a record for
- 23:32ground outs to second base last year.
- 23:34Not kidding. I think it's actually a record
- 23:37now. Many of us.
- 23:40Yeah, we'll see. Good deal.
- 23:42We'll see the bottom half, but. Thank you Alex Bregman and Camp
- 23:46for for getting it done right as we were going live.
- 23:49Yeah, the, I mean, the biggest remaining free agent on the
- 23:51board and we were due for a win. I feel like the last couple sign
- 23:55insurance, we had to maybe do a little bit of little bonus pod
- 23:59treatment. But Bregman, well, actually low
- 24:03key shout out to my Internet for connecting to the wrong, the
- 24:08wrong network. So forcing us to restart and
- 24:11we're able to get the news in and, and get things going that
- 24:15way. Any other thoughts on the the
- 24:17Bregman deal? Again, this just broke minutes
- 24:20before we restarted. We don't have trying to see
- 24:27here. I think I'm, I'm curious to see
- 24:31what just ripple effects if if anybody starts getting more
- 24:35aggressive towards Arenado and if Justin Turner gets locked
- 24:41down that fairly quickly, you know?
- 24:46Dude, I don't know. It sounded like Arnato wanted to
- 24:50come to Boston and nowhere else. So now that this is taken care
- 24:53of, yeah, you know, you could be looking at a.
- 24:56Really. Awkward situation in and out,
- 24:58which is strange there. I keep seeing reports come and
- 25:03go that like they're out, they're in.
- 25:04And yeah, I do feel like that was probably another spot that
- 25:09that Arnato was willing to, to wave the no trade clause for,
- 25:14but I don't know, man, it's, it's odd.
- 25:18So I, I do think there's going to be a little bit of an effect
- 25:21on that. And then again, Justin Turner,
- 25:24not that Justin Turner's playing third base every day, but you're
- 25:27still looking for an impact. right-handed, right-handed
- 25:29batter. It's, I don't know, feel like he
- 25:34needs to, he needs to have a place to hit, man.
- 25:37He's still got some juice in them.
- 25:39If Jock is still getting jobs, Justin Turner and he's still be
- 25:43getting jobs. I mean, Turner's got the age on
- 25:47him. But but I get your point.
- 25:50I get your point. Can still play.
- 25:53Still swinging? Speaking of still playing, Nope.
- 25:56Actually, we're going to wait to get to Kershaw.
- 25:57I got a note here about Kershaw. We got to talk that, but that
- 26:01was originally. That was Next up on my list.
- 26:04But then right before we hopped on the first time to record,
- 26:09before the Internet went out, Nick Pavetta, the Nick Pavetta
- 26:13news broke. And then we restarted the
- 26:15recording and then the Bregman news broke.
- 26:17So we've covered, we've covered Bregman.
- 26:19Now we need to cover this. Nick Pavetta signing four years,
- 26:24$55 million with the San Diego Padres.
- 26:31So Red Sox officially get the pick.
- 26:33Kind of putting a bow on on the Red Sox offseason there.
- 26:37Red Sox get the pick. Padres are on the hook for, as I
- 26:41mentioned, $55 million for with the San Diego Padres.
- 26:50This, this is, I'm going to lean towards saying this is good for
- 26:56the Padres. I, you know, I've, I've already
- 26:58seen this news broke probably like what, an hour ago?
- 27:02I've already seen people complaining about the money.
- 27:06They say, oh, it's too much for a guy like Nick Pavetta.
- 27:08It's structured, yeah. It's.
- 27:11Very it's very back loaded. Very back loaded $3,000,000
- 27:16signing bonus and only a $1 million salary in 2025 and then
- 27:21he gets from 2026 to 2028 respectively.
- 27:26He gets 19,000,014 million and 18,000,000 with opt outs.
- 27:30There's opt outs in here as well.
- 27:33After 26. And 27 with opt outs.
- 27:36And the way that it's structured helps keep.
- 27:40Their. Payroll on the lower end,
- 27:42because if you remember that was the whole that was the big issue
- 27:46or that was the the. Sort of the.
- 27:50Theme with the cease and king conversation where it's like
- 27:56they're just trying to stay away from any any more potential
- 27:59deals that they're going to have to make.
- 28:01That's why they're trying to look for options to or or
- 28:04locations, destination destinations to ship those guys,
- 28:08because I just don't you you know, they're going to get their
- 28:10paydays. They don't want to be on the
- 28:12hook for that. So this the way they structured
- 28:15it is a way to get around that while also bringing in a
- 28:18competitive pitcher and to what I was where I was going with
- 28:21that is is I I think this is I'm going to lean towards this being
- 28:26a a good move for the Padres. I'm I'm.
- 28:30I'm a fan of Nick. Pavetta when?
- 28:34I take into. Account and I remind myself who
- 28:37Nick Pavetta is. You know.
- 28:40Elaborate. Well, you just.
- 28:42You just. Know what you're going to get,
- 28:43you're going to get a higher end ERA.
- 28:50You're going to, I mean, he last year he, he posted a 414.
- 28:59And posted it. With his time with the socks, he
- 29:02posted a 433. So you're going to get a, an ERA
- 29:04north of four. We know that.
- 29:06But he's going to, he's going to give you innings when he's
- 29:08healthy and he's going to give you, how can I put this
- 29:16diplomatically? He's going to help give you a
- 29:20competitive edge when you need it.
- 29:22This is a guy that's going to he's he's going to bark.
- 29:25Sometimes it it's received rather poorly, but when it is
- 29:30received well, it's it serves as somewhat of a, a, a spark,
- 29:35somewhat of a motivating factor for the guys night clubhouse.
- 29:38So I I think a team that for the most part was pretty quiet this
- 29:44offseason for a team. That's.
- 29:48Going to need a boost in morale, I think.
- 29:51I think Nick Pavetta can immediately be a guy that comes
- 29:54in there and sort of help set the tone as as more of a veteran
- 29:58arm as a guy who, like I said, Brent can't is capable of
- 30:02bringing the energy and when when on he's on there.
- 30:09I mean with the socks. There were stretches where it
- 30:11was great start, horrible start, great start, horrible start.
- 30:15So I'm anxious to see if that translate to San Diego.
- 30:18If so, buckle up for the roller coaster ride because that's what
- 30:21that's what's headed your way. But maybe he goes out there,
- 30:24tinkers with some things and and is able to provide you a little
- 30:28bit more consistency, which would at that rate would be even
- 30:31better for this deal. So yeah.
- 30:35Yeah, as far as the money structure goes, I think it is
- 30:40beneficial to what the Padres are going through right now.
- 30:43Just with the weird, you know, ownership issue of, you know,
- 30:47the owner passing away and, and, you know, there's lawsuits going
- 30:51back and forth. And unfortunately, like, in my
- 30:56mind, I think it's I struggle seeing the Padres be repeating
- 31:00their success that they had last year with all that happening.
- 31:05So I think it allows them to almost, almost hedge in a way.
- 31:15They're hedging what their roster is capable of.
- 31:18Like, I still think it's a very talented roster and the fact
- 31:21that Pavetta is going to slot in it, you know, the 4th spot in
- 31:25the rotation, you know, behind behind cease and and and Darvish
- 31:31and and King. I don't think that that's.
- 31:36That bad? I think that's a a fairly decent
- 31:38rotation. But yeah, I just I'm.
- 31:43Struggling to see this whole ownership thing not being a
- 31:48distraction and and seeing the team having success Despite that
- 31:53so. Up to this point, it was a.
- 31:56Horrible offseason. Curious to see what this does.
- 31:59I mean like because of the deal. That's what I'm saying.
- 32:02Is that like? Is this still a?
- 32:05Piece that you can move. Throughout the.
- 32:10Year. At at some point, if you're
- 32:12struggling, if if you're not having a good year, because up
- 32:16to this point, again in the offseason, all we've heard is
- 32:18like trying to find suitors for Dylan Cease, potentially someone
- 32:22for for Michael King as well. So it's like.
- 32:26I don't know if you can. Have those conversations and
- 32:29have those rumors out there, and then it's suddenly wiped away
- 32:34with a Nick Pavetta signing, you know what I mean?
- 32:36So it feels like a hedge, hey, if we come out hot and we
- 32:41surprise some teams and we play well earlier in the year, now we
- 32:46have somebody in the rotation that can, you know, really chew
- 32:49up some innings for us and give us a chance or a, you know, it's
- 32:55time to find some landing spots for some of these other guys.
- 32:58And this is a movable contract. It's it's going to be
- 33:01interesting to see how it plays out.
- 33:04I'd be curious to. See.
- 33:08How much? Interest there's going to be
- 33:10even if he pitches well. If they're looking to.
- 33:15Move him at any point if they do decide that they want to get off
- 33:18this sort of back loaded contract because if this market
- 33:23was in, I mean, I know he didn't like I said, he didn't have the
- 33:26greatest year. He wasn't coming off the
- 33:27greatest year, I should say. But I feel like the league at
- 33:32this point, this is a guy that's been around long enough to where
- 33:34the league, like I was saying, you kind of know what you know
- 33:38what you're getting when it comes to Vivetta.
- 33:39So I think this offseason, if it was any indication of the
- 33:44interest or lack thereof for a guy like Pavetta, I just wonder
- 33:47if maybe this is, I don't want to say his final, his final
- 33:51destination of his career, but I just I would wonder how, how
- 33:58eager other teams would be looking to add, add Pavetta.
- 34:01It's understandable not going to the easiest division to to play
- 34:07against, however you're going to have some tough lineups to deal
- 34:10with. Now.
- 34:12Well, I will qualify. I will qualify what I said with
- 34:16the with the fact that I think this if you're, if you, if you
- 34:19know you're going to be in October making a deep push, this
- 34:21would be a guy that you would certainly like to have in your
- 34:26in your rotation when it comes at.
- 34:28Oh yeah. It's like a you could see him
- 34:32being like a short leash opener in a post season series.
- 34:35You could see him being a mop up.
- 34:38You could see him being a we're going to be, we're going to punt
- 34:42this game and I don't want to use anybody.
- 34:45So I'm going to throw Nick Pavetta out there for my, you
- 34:48know, 4 through 8 innings because we're down 5-6 runs,
- 34:53whatever it may be, right? So like, yeah, I could
- 34:56absolutely see him being that. Moving along here, Clayton
- 35:02Kershaw back, I know, believe it or not, back with the Dodgers,
- 35:08old man Kirsch back on a one year deal, 18th season.
- 35:19How many more of these are we going to see?
- 35:21I'm genuinely curious. Really even 18?
- 35:25Crazy, isn't it? 18 seasons.
- 35:27How many more one year deals for Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers
- 35:31are we going to see? All charity at this.
- 35:34Point, yeah. How many more?
- 35:37I don't know. It's all charity.
- 35:40Also I think if. Kershaw's back this year, I
- 35:43think we can go ahead and put to put to bed, put to rest the the
- 35:48belief that he ends up anywhere else in his career.
- 35:51Like you just have to assume, I mean, if the Dodgers are willing
- 35:55to extend these one year contracts year after year,
- 35:59they're very. Much.
- 36:00Clearly OK with the idea of Kershaw sticking around as long
- 36:03as he desires. So the whole coming out,
- 36:08Kershaw's from Texas, maybe he's going to end up with the
- 36:10Rangers. No, it's it.
- 36:12This is it. That's dead.
- 36:13You you want to talk final? Destinations.
- 36:15This is it for Clayton Kershaw. Any.
- 36:23This is the most ridiculous offseason.
- 36:27This is insane. The offseason they've had, this
- 36:32does. Nothing for me like you just
- 36:33assumed. I'm, I'm just saying in like
- 36:35sheer volume like this is enough moves for three or four teams.
- 36:46Yeah, go on. But in in a way, this move
- 36:49doesn't even feel like a move. I just, I mean, I, I no, no, no,
- 36:54I just like, I understand that yes, a, a signing takes place
- 36:57year after year with Kirchhoff, one year contract, one year
- 37:00contract. But it's kind of just like a,
- 37:03hey, you're with us for life If, if you want to stick around.
- 37:06So we'll just see you next year. It so.
- 37:11It you in my head, I just assumed that while prior to
- 37:16this, prior to this week, he wasn't with the team, but you
- 37:19know, he's going to be on the team come opening day.
- 37:22So it yeah, it just doesn't really feel like a what do you
- 37:25want to do? For an over under, do you want
- 37:27to put it on starts or innings? You you call it.
- 37:31All set, the line starts, starts, intrigues me.
- 37:40Six and a Half, 6 1/2. That's wrong.
- 37:44Now are we talk? We're talking regular season
- 37:46starts, correct? All right, well.
- 37:49That's a great, that's a great line because he made seven last
- 37:53year. I didn't.
- 37:54Even look it. Up boy that rotation this do
- 38:08they I I should know this. No, I shouldn't.
- 38:11I'm I'm lying. Somebody tell me, did the
- 38:14Dodgers operate with the six man rotation last year?
- 38:18I think it's so many. Injuries that I don't think
- 38:19there is ever like a that's true, just a point of having
- 38:22everyone fair, fair. So I mean like I think with
- 38:27three Japanese pitchers in that rotation that are very much used
- 38:32to a six man rotation with a Shohei who is coming back from
- 38:37injury, I I think it's a no brainer.
- 38:39I just. No offense to Kershaw.
- 38:42He's a future Hall of Famer, but like, I would have expected
- 38:46someone else to fill that, that sick spot, you know?
- 38:54You know. What?
- 38:54I'm a Kershaw guy. I'm going to be optimistic
- 38:57coming into 2025. I'm going to take the over.
- 39:01It's not by much, but I'm going to take the over.
- 39:04All right. Fair enough.
- 39:08I'll sit with the under. If you want to make a note of it
- 39:10and we'll just track that. We'll come back to this, yeah.
- 39:14We'll come back to this. Yeah, staying in LA or Anaheim,
- 39:19I guess you can say. Kenley Jansen signs a one year
- 39:23deal with the Angels worth $10 million, he said.
- 39:29Look, he. Said.
- 39:30If I can't pitch for the Dodgers, I'm going to watch him
- 39:34from my backyard. I mean this man.
- 39:39Wanted nothing more than a pitch for the Dodgers in 2025.
- 39:42Dodgers said no thanks. And here we are watching Kenley
- 39:48Jansen go to the Angels in an offseason for the team that I
- 39:52think was they're just grabbing lottery.
- 39:55Tickets, man, I yeah, but like we.
- 39:58Said they're they're doing something.
- 40:00They're they're doing things which I think they're all.
- 40:06I won't say a majority, but many teams, many fan bases, yeah.
- 40:10Who would love? To have the offseason that the
- 40:13Angels are having, the Mariners haven't.
- 40:15Done squat you go get what? Was it like the pirates haven't
- 40:18done anything? What felt like.
- 40:20Day one of the offseason, they go out and get Solaire, Yeah.
- 40:25Forgot about that. That was like 6 hours into the
- 40:28offseason, 6 hours in the. Offseason you bring in Jansen.
- 40:31There were some other names sprinkled in there.
- 40:33Yamancada was. Last week, I believe, yeah, two
- 40:36weeks ago, yeah. They're just Flyers, bro.
- 40:39They're just, they're like, why not?
- 40:40Let's give it a shot. There was another.
- 40:43Bat. Trying to remember.
- 40:49I'm trying to remember who we missing here.
- 40:53We're missing here, Darnell. I think it was Darnell.
- 41:01I'm trying to I'm trying to figure out the day.
- 41:05That they got Solaire. Was it Darnell?
- 41:12I think it was they got Carter Kibo, which I know that means
- 41:19like nothing to most people, but I always, I always liked Carter
- 41:22Kibo. I wish he would have panned out.
- 41:25Never know. Oh.
- 41:27Yeah, they got you. Say, Kikuchi, I completely
- 41:29forgot about that. That was at the end of November.
- 41:32Thank you. And they got Travis.
- 41:33Darnaud the 12th of November and they got Kyle Hendricks.
- 41:41They're doing stuff. There's plenty of.
- 41:44Plenty of fan bases out there that would be thrilled with that
- 41:46that offseason. It's movement.
- 41:49It's something you're alive. Just show me your breathing, you
- 41:54know? When did they get?
- 41:56So lair dude. Why can I not find?
- 41:59Them on here. Get the beer.
- 42:04Of Taco burps, my bad. Yeah, we don't need that.
- 42:08Thanks. Sorry.
- 42:11But anyway, yeah. You you'd love to have that.
- 42:13You'd love to have that offseason if if you're a fan of,
- 42:16yeah, a lot of other teams. Staying with the Angels.
- 42:20Though this Rendon news I don't want to spend.
- 42:23Any necessary? Well, we're going to.
- 42:31Can't even say it with a straight.
- 42:32Face Anthony Rendon has elected to receive hip surgery and will
- 42:37be out for quotes a significant amount of time.
- 42:44Just disappear, just fall off the face of the earth bro I put
- 42:51out that tik. T.O.K the other day. 36.
- 42:56Percent of games played. Coming into 20. 2536% of games
- 43:04played. Just go away.
- 43:06During his tenure with. The Angels just go away.
- 43:10I mean, if you're the angels, how?
- 43:11Do you just not eat this? I know it's a lot of money, but
- 43:14how do you just not eat this? Like it's a, it's a he's a he's
- 43:19the butt end of a joke at this point.
- 43:22What? What?
- 43:23Value. Is he providing you none when
- 43:26he's in, You're getting. You're getting what, a 240
- 43:29hitter? You're telling me you can't find
- 43:30that elsewhere? And again, I know there's money
- 43:31attached to it, but at least you wouldn't have the baggage
- 43:34attached to another guy that's hitting 240 for you.
- 43:36Yeah. He's not providing you.
- 43:39Any pop what's left in? This deal, what's left?
- 43:45So he's 34. What is it?
- 43:50Three years left? Hasn't played in more than 58
- 43:54games in any season. Do what?
- 44:00What the Yankees did to Ellisbury just refuse to pay
- 44:05him. Well, that that would.
- 44:08Mean that he would just have to disappear.
- 44:10So then it would be justified like, hey, we can't find the
- 44:13guy. So we like, we don't even know
- 44:15where to send the checks to. So we're just going to say, you
- 44:18know, just go. Fair is fair.
- 44:20It's the worst contract of all time he's got.
- 44:25No two years. He's a free agent in 2027.
- 44:30Worst. Contract of all time?
- 44:32Not even close. Insane.
- 44:34Dude in sane. Just painful.
- 44:39I don't. Hey, that's it.
- 44:41That's an interesting thought. You think Nolan?
- 44:45Nolan Aronado would go. Go out, play some.
- 44:49Ball with the Angels. He is a.
- 44:53He's a. California kid, right?
- 44:55Yeah. Newport Beach.
- 45:00I guess. I don't know.
- 45:03I don't like that. Why not?
- 45:06Yeah, I. Mean, if you're Nolan Coronado,
- 45:07it's better than staying where you're at, where you're clearly
- 45:10not wanted. Yeah, I don't know if it's that
- 45:15much better. I feel like I would take.
- 45:20You do get to go home. You do get to go.
- 45:21Home. I would take going home, yeah.
- 45:25Playing in Anaheim. Over staying put in Saint Louis
- 45:29where they don't want you. I I don't.
- 45:32I don't think it makes any sense for the angels to give up what
- 45:37they would need to give up to get that done you.
- 45:39Don't have to give up very much at all.
- 45:41They're trying to. They're trying to get off of
- 45:43this contract. They're going to have to give up
- 45:45prospects. Not.
- 45:47Very much something. But not I I really, especially
- 45:51at this rate, because you know that the Cardinals are
- 45:53desperate, that you have whatever team is knocking on the
- 45:56door of the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 45:58You have all the leverage. You've got all the leverage.
- 46:03They've made it abundantly clear that they do not want Nolan
- 46:06Aronado on their team come opening day.
- 46:11Whatever. Not a bad idea.
- 46:15Not a bad idea. OK, we've reached we've.
- 46:20Reached a fork. In the road.
- 46:23The best? Point of the podcast Let's do
- 46:28it. Let's go.
- 46:28Don't even think about it. Send it.
- 46:30Let's do what? Something either.
- 46:33The draft or or or hit that button Dog or.
- 46:46I realize you're setting me up. I got just steam it up do it.
- 46:50Again, do it again or. Whose quote was this?
- 46:56Whose quote was this? Whose said it?
- 47:00Whether it is like milk, whether it is like wine, we have to find
- 47:04out Who said it? Was it Cow our name?
- 47:09Was it Cow our name? Was it Cow our name?
- 47:14Was it Cow our name? Whose quote was this?
- 47:21Whose quote? Was this?
- 47:24Do you want the quote or do? You want the episode and date
- 47:28first. I want episode.
- 47:30And date first. Oh, I'm mixing it up all right.
- 47:32This is from the Three O Take episode 330, the Offseason Wish
- 47:38List episode from December 19th, 2022.
- 47:43Wow, OK. Fire away.
- 47:47Quote. It's just odd for.
- 47:49The Orioles to have that type of end to their season and not want
- 47:53to build on that one move, two moves and it would have got the
- 47:57fan base on board. It would have built the hype up.
- 48:02Wow, not a whole lot to go. Off of there.
- 48:11There were some more, but I. Trimmed it back a little bit
- 48:13because I I feel like we've been getting in the habit of of
- 48:15making it too easy. I'm going to go with.
- 48:20Daddy. Me.
- 48:27Yeah, well done. Well done.
- 48:28Yeah, I, I think I, I'd have to go back and check, but I want to
- 48:32say that was probably the start of us.
- 48:36Really getting. On the case of the Orioles being
- 48:39like, do more, do more like. Supplement what?
- 48:44You have with your youth. Make a.
- 48:48Signing have. These guys for rookie deals for
- 48:52very long go make. A move and they've outside of
- 48:57Burns Who? They inevitably just let.
- 49:02Walk out the door after a season they haven't done anything to
- 49:07really write home about. So I think that theme continues
- 49:11really into this season and beyond.
- 49:14Sure does, and beyond. And beyond.
- 49:18All right, it is. Time.
- 49:21Do you really want to do this? Heck yeah, let's.
- 49:23All right, let's do it. I look, for the record, I was I
- 49:27was on board with being like, hey, this Bregman thing popped
- 49:29up. Let's punt the draft to next
- 49:30episode, Nate. Nate said no, let's.
- 49:34Let's let's keep the streak. Let's keep the streak rolling.
- 49:39All right, today's draft is division draft.
- 49:51So what we're going to do? What?
- 49:54Heck of a drum roll. Thank you.
- 49:56What we're going to do for this? Is we've got a random division
- 50:02generator. You're obviously going to have
- 50:05repeats in this, but we're going to have to fill out a line up.
- 50:07And this time we're not doing 3 outfielders, 4 infielders.
- 50:10We're actually filling out positions and we're we've added
- 50:15a relief pitcher. So you're going to have a
- 50:16starting pitcher and a relief pitcher you have to make.
- 50:19You can fill out your line up in any order or fill out your
- 50:22roster, I should say, in any particular order that you want,
- 50:24but you have to choose somebody from the division selected.
- 50:27That's fair. That's right there.
- 50:31I'll just go ahead and say this in terms of who's going first,
- 50:35there is an insane a lawsuit's going to need to be filed.
- 50:40There's an insane amount. There's it's I'll just call it
- 50:43what it is. It's a conspiracy.
- 50:45There's an insane amount of bias and insane amount of hate being
- 50:50thrown around right now because after last draft, I mean, I
- 50:54wiped the floor with you and people were still go, oh, Nate
- 50:59clears Nate this Nate. I mean, Kyle, why did you even
- 51:03show up? Like I it doesn't make any
- 51:06sense. And there's people that are
- 51:08throwing out the idea of the possibility and I'm starting to
- 51:10think it's more reality that you're paying people.
- 51:13It's possible. You never know to.
- 51:15I'll never say to take. The take the cake every time
- 51:19these votes come around. So I don't know I don't know
- 51:21what's going on there. But you know, with.
- 51:25With that said, I guess you can go first.
- 51:28I'm trying to find the. The randomizer, the results.
- 51:34But I can't seem to find it, so I'm just going to go with what
- 51:36was what I last remember and you had the lead.
- 51:39So go ahead and and vote and we'll stick with the snake
- 51:42draft. Lovely.
- 51:46That's great. All right.
- 51:48Out here. Just out here speaking from the
- 51:52heart, you know, And I think that's what the people see.
- 51:54I don't. I really don't think that's it
- 51:56at all. Let's see, where is it?
- 52:03Here's the randomizer and your first pick is going to have to
- 52:10come out of the National League. West well.
- 52:29A lot to. Pick from here.
- 52:30So let's just go show Hey Otani in the DH spot.
- 52:34Sick love that. Wow, OK.
- 52:40We're going to go show. Hey on the D in the DH spot.
- 52:46Oh boy. All right, I'm going to go.
- 52:49This is going to be. This is going to be very a very
- 52:53narrow margin between the two teams, I would think.
- 52:57I would think there's a lot to pick from here.
- 53:01I'm not going to. Overthink this.
- 53:12I'm going to go. I'm going to go.
- 53:20What's the deal with? Position eligibility here.
- 53:28Why is it? Mookie.
- 53:33Yeah, I want to go Mookie. Where can I slot him?
- 53:35Where am I allowed to slot him? Based on what?
- 53:41The Dodgers. Have listed at the.
- 53:44Moment Haysong Kim is like their second baseman.
- 53:51Yeah. So I was just.
- 53:54Thinking less about second, more right and short.
- 54:02I don't care because. 2nd to short to.
- 54:04Me doesn't mean as doesn't make as much of a difference, but as
- 54:07short and put here in the outfield, I don't care you.
- 54:10Know I'll just play it. Clean.
- 54:12I'm going to. If I'm going to win this, I'm
- 54:13going to do it the right way. I'm going to put Mookie at
- 54:15short. All right, Snake draft.
- 54:21I'm taking the next pick. This wheel takes forever.
- 54:27Five ever. It is the American League West.
- 54:37Boy, the American League West. Well this sucks.
- 54:55Give me I've missed him once. Before I'm not missing him
- 55:05again, give me Jordan Alvarez as my DH.
- 55:11That's good. Oh.
- 55:30American League West. I'm going to go, Marcus.
- 55:50Simeon A. 2nd that's. You know, that's that's
- 56:00strategic. I like that.
- 56:01It's not a. It's not.
- 56:02A super deep position. I wasn't ready to burn short yet
- 56:06because Corey Seeger was rattling around in my noggin.
- 56:10That's fair. But.
- 56:13I don't know if that's an indirect slam at me, but if
- 56:16Mookie's available, Mookie's. Available.
- 56:18I'm going to take Mookie. Nothing wrong with that.
- 56:20All right, you're next. You've got first pick.
- 56:23Here, per the Snake draft, your pick is coming out of the
- 56:31American League Central. Well, glad I didn't burn it
- 56:37Give. Me, Bobby Wood, junior and
- 56:38short. Really wanted Bobby.
- 56:42Really wanted Bobby. Oh boy.
- 56:48All right. Give me.
- 56:58Yeah, I see. Him in the chat, see him in the
- 57:01chat. I was already, I was already
- 57:03thinking it. I'm not going to overthink it.
- 57:05I, I, I, I overthink too much in these drafts.
- 57:08I'm just, I'm just going to go with the right pick.
- 57:11Jose Ramirez at third. Very good God, I really wanted.
- 57:16Now I'm not even going to say it.
- 57:21Come on, Oh baby, Gimme. Gimme Gimme 1st pick for me is
- 57:30coming out of. By the way, I appreciate that.
- 57:34You trust me on these random, random generators, Yeah.
- 57:39I've known you too long. What?
- 57:42Are you going to do? You know what am I going to?
- 57:45Do American League West again, tough to visit that.
- 57:50That town again, Yeah, that sucks.
- 57:54So. So we went.
- 57:55National League West, American League West, American League
- 57:58Central. And now we're back to AL West
- 58:00Got. To keep track, here the.
- 58:02Picks all. Right.
- 58:07I American League West, I I mean, that's.
- 58:27That's a risky pick. I'm not.
- 58:30I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that.
- 58:34Oh boy. OK.
- 58:36I guess I'm just going to. This one may come back to.
- 58:41Bite me. It's not a bad.
- 58:44Pick. It's just not my I'll just go
- 58:46ahead and say it's not my favorite pick.
- 58:47I'm give me. I already got in the chat.
- 58:54I already got your Don. He's my, he's my DH.
- 58:59Give me where'd he go? Oh, give me.
- 59:10Give me Julio in Center American League West.
- 59:28And remember, we have we have to pick.
- 59:32This is different. This time around we got to pick
- 59:34a starter and a reliever. Just keep that in mind.
- 59:39By the way, I liked your idea of adding a head coach for the last
- 59:42draft. We don't have to do it this
- 59:43time, but something to just keep in mind for moving forward.
- 59:46That was a football thing, but. Yeah, if it fits.
- 59:50Or. Yes, sorry.
- 59:51Manager, What am I saying? Well, I was the head coach for
- 59:53the last draft because it was football, Yeah.
- 1:00:01What's chat looking? Like you got any suggestions?
- 1:00:04Chat. Get out of the chat.
- 1:00:05I'm you've been in the chat, I'm monitoring the chat because I
- 1:00:08have to, I have to. You've been hanging out.
- 1:00:10I have to run production here ah.
- 1:00:13Man. American League.
- 1:00:20West. I don't want to burn my.
- 1:00:24Starter, you know. I'm not ready.
- 1:00:28I'm not. Ready to play that card yet?
- 1:00:32Yeah, do what you got to do. Give me.
- 1:00:39Josh Hader, I had a feeling you were going.
- 1:00:41There, that's that's a good pick.
- 1:00:51All right. Your first pick is the American
- 1:01:02League Central again. Dude, what is happening?
- 1:01:06The east does exist randomizer I.
- 1:01:09It's it's what the it's what the generator's coming up with.
- 1:01:12That's not me. The American League West.
- 1:01:24Is like, it's not that deep guys.
- 1:01:28It's not as super deep. You mean the?
- 1:01:30Central. Oh, we're back in the Central.
- 1:01:32I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I got stuck in the West.
- 1:01:34I got stuck in the West. No, we've alternated.
- 1:01:37We went wet. AO W AO central.
- 1:01:39AO WL Central, Yeah. Dang, should I save that?
- 1:01:44Really. Respond Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:51yeah. Go no research.
- 1:02:02Here guy I got no phone, I got nothing just raw dog in this I.
- 1:02:18Don't want to do that. Jay Ramos is a good.
- 1:02:26Pick guy. Thank you.
- 1:02:27Thank you. Oh, I'm is the only pick I could
- 1:02:29make, Yeah. I you throwing a ticker on.
- 1:02:39Me. I don't want it.
- 1:03:04That's messing with me. That's a little better.
- 1:03:11That sound I'm used to. My brother guy.
- 1:03:18It's getting snug. All right, let me just.
- 1:03:21My brother, we still got like half.
- 1:03:22The team to go. More than half the team.
- 1:03:41I don't. Like doing this.
- 1:03:43Give me Royce Lewis at third. Well done.
- 1:03:47Sir, I will gladly go ahead and take Tarek Scubal as my starting
- 1:03:52pitcher. That's a good one.
- 1:03:57I wasn't ready to burn it, but that's a good one to burn it on.
- 1:04:01I mean I. Was surprised you didn't go
- 1:04:02Class A. I'm.
- 1:04:05I'm going to. I'm going to take, you know, No,
- 1:04:09I'm not. I'm not.
- 1:04:10I'm not. I'm not going to explain myself.
- 1:04:12You went Royce Lewis. I swear, if you win this draft,
- 1:04:17I am never doing another draft again.
- 1:04:20Yeah, you're putting Royce wear again.
- 1:04:24Third. Right.
- 1:04:25Right, third. So OK, so that's Royce at third
- 1:04:30Scubble it on the bump. K can't believe I.
- 1:04:35That didn't come to mind. Yeah, it's tough guy.
- 1:04:38That's real tough. Who's got first pick here?
- 1:04:43You do. I do.
- 1:04:45All right, watch. It's gonna be the it's gonna be
- 1:04:47the National League Central. I hope not.
- 1:04:50It's gonna be the National League Central.
- 1:04:52It is the National League West. We've only we've.
- 1:04:59Only picked out of three divisions thus far.
- 1:05:01Stupid. I hate it.
- 1:05:05National League West. Oh boy, give me.
- 1:05:19I mean, I don't know why you're. Not doing any research.
- 1:05:23Nobody said you couldn't. That rule wasn't established.
- 1:05:27Give me. National League West, did you
- 1:05:45see my light change? Color, Yeah.
- 1:05:47What's up with? That that.
- 1:05:49Was weird, creepy, Don't love that.
- 1:06:00Not a fan of that. What did I say?
- 1:06:02We're in Oh. We're the National League West.
- 1:06:04What am I doing? Give me.
- 1:06:15You know I'm. Going to I'm I'm going to come
- 1:06:21back to this. Give me Tatis and Wright.
- 1:06:29Nice. Give me Corbin Carroll.
- 1:06:33In center. All right.
- 1:06:42Next division is. Nate's pick will be.
- 1:06:50From the American League Central, this is.
- 1:06:55Ridiculous I. I don't know what to I don't
- 1:07:00know what to say. So dumb.
- 1:07:03Come on, they're all in in. Here dude, all all six divisions
- 1:07:08are in here. I don't know why it's only.
- 1:07:12Choosing these. And you know what's beautiful?
- 1:07:20About this. I can't get class.
- 1:07:26AI know. I love this.
- 1:07:28I love this for me. I think I'm toast.
- 1:07:35No, you'll. You'll you'll get the votes.
- 1:07:38You'll get the votes somehow. They'll be like, well, you know,
- 1:07:41Royce Lewis is a is a sneaky pick and he could have a better
- 1:07:45year than Jose Ramirez. Stupid man sometimes.
- 1:07:52I I mean, I love our listeners, but sometimes I just hate our
- 1:07:55listeners. Like how I mean.
- 1:07:57Do you all know Ball or do you know ball?
- 1:07:59Because there's no way that Nate should be under.
- 1:08:03Well, I think you only lost one draft so far, but I'm like,
- 1:08:06there's no way that Nate should have this many dubs under his
- 1:08:08belt. There's just no way.
- 1:08:26Just double checking. I made a mistake.
- 1:08:27I made a big mistake with Terex Google.
- 1:08:29That's on me. If I lose, it's it's that's a
- 1:08:32big that's a big reason. That part's on me.
- 1:08:38Give me Stephen Kwan and left. All right, you going Class A?
- 1:08:48I'm going. Class A.
- 1:08:50All right, my friend, the next pick is.
- 1:08:55Congrats you got. 1st pick on this one, right?
- 1:08:59Yeah, National League East. No, you do.
- 1:09:03You went. All right, I just knew.
- 1:09:05Who I wanted first. That's right.
- 1:09:07All right. National League East.
- 1:09:11Love this for me. I'm going to go ahead and put, I
- 1:09:18don't know. Maybe Juan?
- 1:09:22Soto and left no. He's not a left fielder.
- 1:09:27Come on. He's literally listed.
- 1:09:30As a left fielder on MLB.com, what are what are?
- 1:09:32That's ridiculous. He ain't playing left field.
- 1:09:37The Mets are putting him in. Left.
- 1:09:39Why have we not heard anything about that?
- 1:09:44Let me I'm just going off of what's on the screen.
- 1:09:49I'm leaving. Right field open on purpose for
- 1:09:51this. Stupid.
- 1:10:01You can have it. If it's listed, it's listed.
- 1:10:04I don't care. I'm toast anyway.
- 1:10:09Royce Lewis over Terek's Google really did me in.
- 1:10:12Yeah. Yeah, oh boy.
- 1:10:15You know E well, I mean. I, I don't know man, like you
- 1:10:23know, he's listed as left field, right field on here, but.
- 1:10:28You know. It I don't, I don't want to, I
- 1:10:31don't want to earn this win unfairly.
- 1:10:34So, you know, if, if there's criticism here of of putting
- 1:10:40Soto on left, I can rescind the pick.
- 1:10:45You're not going to like it because.
- 1:10:46I would take Soto and Rey. I mean, that's fine.
- 1:10:50You need. All the help you can get,
- 1:10:52truthfully. I mean me, me.
- 1:10:56Putting Soto in in left. That's.
- 1:11:01The nail in the coffin and we still have more picks to go.
- 1:11:05Go ahead and take them and you put hardware 1st.
- 1:11:10Just double check here. We're picking out of the East.
- 1:11:13It's a lot to pick from. Yeah, give me Bryce.
- 1:11:18At first. Oh boy, Barista Bryce.
- 1:11:28So you're putting Soto on, right?
- 1:11:29That's fine. Run it back to the NL.
- 1:11:33East give me more E love. Give me an American.
- 1:11:37League East pick one time, just one time, one time.
- 1:11:41One time. The National League Central,
- 1:11:48which we have not had. National League.
- 1:11:51Central. I'm just, I don't want to.
- 1:12:02Fire, fire too quickly here. I feel pretty confident about
- 1:12:05it, but. I did misfire.
- 1:12:07Earlier and don't want to repeat that.
- 1:12:13No. There is.
- 1:12:15No way I my blood. 'S.
- 1:12:16Boiling just thinking about people trying to justify Nate's
- 1:12:19roster over mine. I I can just see it.
- 1:12:22Paul Skins. There you go.
- 1:12:26Good, good. Good salvage there.
- 1:12:32That's who I was going. That's who I was going to shoot
- 1:12:34for had scuba not come up. And honestly, it's probably a
- 1:12:39good thing I didn't because, well, no, because if you would
- 1:12:43have been actually thinking you would have gone Scoople over
- 1:12:46Roy. So I would have gotten skiing.
- 1:12:47Oh, we were getting one or two of those guys either way.
- 1:12:51OK, you got. Catchers second and left field
- 1:12:56open. Catcher second.
- 1:13:00And left, all right, give me. There's no way I win this.
- 1:13:20Give me give me I guess JT behind the dish What who real
- 1:13:45muto we're in the. Central Pal.
- 1:13:49Oh, shoot, I'm sitting here scanning and you made the same
- 1:13:53mistake over the American League.
- 1:13:54Sure did. Oh boy, Central.
- 1:13:59That makes things interesting. OK.
- 1:14:07I need second. Catcher and left Central really
- 1:14:19sucks, man. Oh oh, oh, hold on.
- 1:14:25Trying to see if it. Comes up as a left fielder.
- 1:14:29You don't even. Know you don't know what I'm
- 1:14:33doing, You don't know what I'm doing.
- 1:14:35Has his name been mentioned today?
- 1:14:39I don't know has it been mentioned?
- 1:14:40Today. Has it been mentioned?
- 1:14:44Today. Ah, you're lucky.
- 1:14:53You're lucky. Give me Contreras.
- 1:15:03Wait, it'd be it'd. Be William, right?
- 1:15:05No, you want. Wilson William's a Brewer.
- 1:15:12We good they're both in the. Central, Yeah.
- 1:15:19Which one did you? Say.
- 1:15:21I don't know which one did. I say, which one do you want?
- 1:15:24I don't know which one do I want.
- 1:15:29No, I said. William Contreras And then
- 1:15:32you're like, no. You just no, no, I know.
- 1:15:34And then I. Said William.
- 1:15:35And then you're like, no, he's a Brewer.
- 1:15:37Why did you? Yeah, I know what you're.
- 1:15:39That's what I'm saying I'm saying.
- 1:15:40Like I'm, I thought you were struggling with William, like
- 1:15:43which Wilson or William was with who?
- 1:15:46So I'm saying like William. Oh, no, no, no.
- 1:15:48No, no, I knew he was with the Brewers, but I'm I'm, I thought
- 1:15:51you were like making me second guess on what division.
- 1:15:54I was like, he's definitely in the central.
- 1:15:55No, I was saying like. What?
- 1:15:57What William or Wilson was with who?
- 1:16:02No, no. All right, here's my catcher.
- 1:16:06All right, who's got do? I got first pick here?
- 1:16:10Yeah, yeah, You went skeins. Give me in the chat.
- 1:16:18Pass and reported Bregman will play second base.
- 1:16:21Don't love that. OK.
- 1:16:25National League East. Back to the east.
- 1:16:32Wow, we haven't got we. Haven't had the AL East once.
- 1:16:35I feel like I'm going to get burned.
- 1:16:37With catcher? Yep, probably.
- 1:16:40You got left field and 2nd. Left and 2nd this.
- 1:16:43Is where it gets tricky. Left.
- 1:16:52And 2nd the East. Give.
- 1:17:02Me. Hold on, I need to confirm.
- 1:17:08If he's playing a second. Come on now, give.
- 1:17:19Me, I don't want him, I guess. Give me no.
- 1:17:29There's got to be a better left fielder in the East.
- 1:17:46Who is definitely not dude. I don't.
- 1:17:58Know I guess give me I'm I'm looking in Atlanta.
- 1:18:13To to save me. Here.
- 1:18:19Oh, you know what? Give me.
- 1:18:23No, now I'm overthinking this. I.
- 1:18:28Said I'm not going to overthink it.
- 1:18:30Give me. Give me Ozzy Alby's.
- 1:18:33At second I thought. That was the safe bet.
- 1:18:38Give me Matt Olson at first. So I need a left.
- 1:18:46Fielder and you need a catcher. Smart move waiting.
- 1:18:52To pull the trigger last on a catcher.
- 1:18:55Not smart. No, because nobody cares.
- 1:19:03I mean, unless you're getting like a top catch, you either get
- 1:19:05like one of the top three catchers or you literally get
- 1:19:07anybody else, nobody's going to care.
- 1:19:09Not that I'm trying to build your case here.
- 1:19:11It is the National League East again.
- 1:19:13That's fun. I.
- 1:19:20Feel like JT is. Kind of washed.
- 1:19:31Don't overthink this. Don't overthink this.
- 1:19:41I'm just. Comparing my catchers because
- 1:19:45like overall, I think they're all like.
- 1:19:51What? What are we doing?
- 1:19:53Dude what? Make your pick.
- 1:19:58Don't overthink this, this is crazy.
- 1:20:02I don't. Are you like that much into JT
- 1:20:05Ryomuto over Alvarez and Sean Murphy?
- 1:20:09Like that far? Above, I don't think it's that
- 1:20:12like obviously above I mean, I feel like if you're going for
- 1:20:16just. Line up sex appeal.
- 1:20:19I mean, I feel like, you know, don't listen to me.
- 1:20:22What do I know? I have.
- 1:20:23I don't win any drafts, so clearly I don't know what I'm
- 1:20:25talking about. Whatever.
- 1:20:27We do have a lot of Braves fans that listen, so Sean Murphy
- 1:20:31might save me a little bit. Yeah, that's fine.
- 1:20:35I'll go JT. Hubert Ruiz, that was.
- 1:20:40A good that would have been a good pick.
- 1:20:42Still some upside. There.
- 1:20:45All right, you're going JT Catcher, I guess in the left.
- 1:20:50Give me. Guess give me Profar.
- 1:21:07You don't remember how much. Weight Shohei is going to carry
- 1:21:10on this thing, whatever. Just.
- 1:21:13Remember that. Just remember how much you're
- 1:21:16going to. You're going to win a lot of.
- 1:21:17Water, you're going to win the freaking.
- 1:21:18Draft even though my team is just clearly why you're hating
- 1:21:21on Stephen. Kwan, by the way, Stephen I'd.
- 1:21:25Rather have Stephen Kwan over the fact No, no, no, no.
- 1:21:28The fact I'll take Quan of a profile, I'll take Corbin
- 1:21:30Carroll over Julio Rodriguez. No, the fact that you no, that
- 1:21:35was that was 100%. On me, I was.
- 1:21:38I'm going to put a bullet point at the.
- 1:21:39Bottom of the graphic I'm going to put a bullet point that says
- 1:21:42Nate Nate chose Royce Lewis when Tarik Scuba was available and
- 1:21:46see if that swings the vote at all.
- 1:21:49This is why I. Get votes, by the way, is 'cause
- 1:21:52you you have these shenanigans that come out of your come out
- 1:21:56of your mouth all. Right, recapping.
- 1:21:58Nate's got, let's just go. I'll try to go around the
- 1:22:02diamond here so it's more consistent.
- 1:22:05So he's got Paul Skeens as his starter.
- 1:22:09Josh Hader as his. Reliever.
- 1:22:14Matt Ols or excuse? Me, JT Romito behind the dish,
- 1:22:17Matt Olsen at first, Marcus Simeon at second, Royce Lewis at
- 1:22:22third, Bobby Witt at short, Stephen Kwan and left at Corbin.
- 1:22:28Carolyn center. Juan Soto and Wright show his DH
- 1:22:32for me. I have Terek School as my
- 1:22:36starting pitcher. Emmanuel Klaasse is my reliever.
- 1:22:39William Contreras is my catcher. Bryce Harper's my first.
- 1:22:44Baseman. Ozzy Albies as my. 2nd baseman
- 1:22:48Jose Ramirez as my third baseman, Mookie Betts as my
- 1:22:52shortstop, Jerks and Profar as my left fielder.
- 1:22:56J Rod is my center fielder, Skip J Ram.
- 1:22:59J Ram at third. No, I didn't.
- 1:23:01I said Jose Amir. Is the third.
- 1:23:03Oh, you did? Yeah.
- 1:23:04How's the owner now? J Rod in center.
- 1:23:07And Fernando Tatis and Wright, I mean, what are we doing?
- 1:23:10What are we doing here? I.
- 1:23:13Don't know guy. But I I know.
- 1:23:16I'm just waiting for like the 68 TH and my outfielders.
- 1:23:20Are better than yours. It's going to be the. 68 to 32
- 1:23:24discrepancy in the votes and like where are these votes?
- 1:23:28Where are you putting them? Where are you?
- 1:23:30Where are you putting the polls on the story?
- 1:23:32All right. Good to know IG.
- 1:23:34Story and. Facebook I I sort of combined
- 1:23:37the two. It's it's not an exact science,
- 1:23:39but I can usually get a feel for who wins and people just clearly
- 1:23:42don't know ball. Anyway, other than that, that's
- 1:23:47all I got. Oh.
- 1:23:49Awesome. Let's have a good weekend.
- 1:23:51Everybody. Buckle up, and if you're in the
