- 0:21we ended up recording a three-and-a-half Hour episode.
- 0:25But instead of cutting it down, we just decided to release it in
- 0:28two parts. This first part is a Jew.
- 0:30See spoiler filled talk about the cast, The acting the
- 0:33controversies, and so much more. The next episode will be the
- 0:37rest of our juicy. Spoiler filled discussion.
- 0:39Thanks for listening and enjoy the episode.
- 1:00I'm Jessica and mrs. Debora caramels were a couple of
- 1:02friends of You Korean dramas except today because today,
- 1:05we're going to cover a see drama called till the end of the Moon.
- 1:10Not sure if you've heard of it, it might be the C drama of the
- 1:13Season, maybe of the year, who knows?
- 1:15We're halfway through the year, but I am super excited because I
- 1:20am joined today by not To guess I have Caitlyn from at no sleep
- 1:25for dramas and Liliana from T and Soju.
- 1:28Asian drama podcast. How are you?
- 1:30Ladies. Welcome, hi, I'm doing well.
- 1:34How are you? I'm doing well, Liliana I am so
- 1:37glad that you guys are here. Caitlin, how you doing?
- 1:40I'm good, I'm good. Glad to be here.
- 1:42Okay, so what happened, why are we reviewing a CD drama in a
- 1:46kdrama podcast? Well, I think you guys might
- 1:49already know based on my social owls and the patreon feed.
- 1:53I love, see, drama. I watch TV dramas all the time.
- 1:56I augment my kdrama watching with see dramas and my favorite
- 1:59genre is the ciencia drama. And oh my God, this drama that
- 2:06we're going to review. Today took the World by storm.
- 2:09It had all the girlies in a tizzy.
- 2:11Everyone was salivating over the episodes and we're here we're
- 2:16going to discuss it. Why are you guys on?
- 2:19Because I was talking To each of you about the show on the
- 2:23socials and you guys were really animated.
- 2:26And then one thing led to another, we're all here, we've
- 2:29been discussing the show and our group chat for like weeks.
- 2:34Yes. And just in case people don't
- 2:37know, you guys are, don't follow you guys on the socials, if you
- 2:41can give us your briefed like experience with.
- 2:43See dramas, maybe your favorite genres your Mount Rushmore of
- 2:47see, dramas, your favorite ones. That'll kind of set the stage
- 2:50here. And then we can move on Liliana,
- 2:54you got the floor, right? So I started a see dramas back
- 3:00in 2018 and actually, it was completely out of nowhere
- 3:03because I had been watching anime on Netflix and it kind of
- 3:09popped up with a drama and Jess. I'm sure you're very familiar
- 3:14with it ashes of love. And you know, that was my first
- 3:18CD drama. I've been injured it in 4 days
- 3:21and I It's like I don't even know what this is.
- 3:23I was stuck on it for ages and then Netflix just kept churning,
- 3:28other dramas and the rest is history, basically.
- 3:32And so basically genres that I really like within Chinese draw,
- 3:37a Chinese drummers probably she and her because I just thought
- 3:40it was my first, you know, genre in Chinese dramas.
- 3:44And it's something that's so unique to Chinese, dramas.
- 3:47I don't think anyone else can quite do anything like it.
- 3:51It, but also I love youth. Dramas for see dramas.
- 3:56They do really, really good. Youth drum, especially ones that
- 4:01follow like kids into teenagers and then into adults, I think.
- 4:05See, dramas do them really, really well.
- 4:07So that's probably like the two that I really, really enjoy.
- 4:11And then for like my Mount Rushmore, dramas, I would
- 4:15probably say stuff like love between Ferry and devil, this
- 4:20one is definitely. Be one that will be on it till
- 4:23the end of the main like this, no questions about it.
- 4:26And then dramas like go ahead, I absolutely loved.
- 4:30Go ahead. Dramas like the untamed and you
- 4:34know one and only forever and ever.
- 4:37Those are just some other dramas that I absolutely loved within
- 4:41Chinese drama. Learned.
- 4:44Yeah. Those are some great dramas.
- 4:46I have so many. See dramas on my to watch list
- 4:48that I either don't have the time to watch.
- 4:51Or more often than not. I am like saving them.
- 4:54Like, I know they're well received and well-liked and I'm
- 4:57gonna frickin adore them and I just want to save them for like
- 5:00a rainy day, but I again, most people have actually heard the
- 5:06love between very and devil that we did on debauch.
- 5:09I love that show and it is on my Mount Rushmore as well.
- 5:14I guess I do have to speak on till the end of the Moon, if it
- 5:17will make it Kaitlyn. Tell me about your Sidra.
- 5:21Experiences. So I started watching dramas in
- 5:26general, in like 2008 mostly kdramas.
- 5:31I didn't really go and dive into any other Asian dramas until
- 5:35like 2015, 16, something like that.
- 5:40And my first see drama ever was memory lost which is a crime
- 5:46drama with three seasons. Amazing.
- 5:50It's like my My I mean it's kind of a nostalgic for me.
- 5:54It's probably not the best drama ever compared to like nowadays.
- 5:58But I loved it. I was addicted.
- 6:01I mean, I like the leads are like some of my favorites that I
- 6:06like will always watch, which the leaves are like by you and
- 6:12Yong Yong wrong. So I love young run.
- 6:15Anyway. So that was like my first CD
- 6:17drama. So that always has like a soft
- 6:20spot. And then for John were wise
- 6:25because of that, like knowing me crime is obviously my favorite,
- 6:30so I like that one, there is a fair and Horizon Tower is an
- 6:35amazing crime drama like really good but I also also go for the
- 6:41Chandra dramas as well. So this one might be one of my
- 6:46favorites ever 10 miles of peach blossom, probably as well.
- 6:53Once Upon a Time and lingering mountain is like it's it's
- 6:58interesting because it like, it's like you're watching a dog
- 7:02walkers. It's based off of dong Hua and
- 7:05its really very much keeps to the form of like anime, Douglas.
- 7:10Oh, it's entertaining in that way.
- 7:12So it makes fun of itself a little bit, which is very
- 7:15entertaining. Also, I have to do shout off of
- 7:18Hickory. No, go Hikaru Kaoru.
- 7:21I always A hickory Hikari. No go.
- 7:24I love the anime of this and so when they announced they're
- 7:28doing a see drama of it. I absolutely adored it.
- 7:31So I absolutely like that one as well.
- 7:33So yeah, thank you so much for letting me.
- 7:36Know your Mount Rushmore your favorite genres.
- 7:39I think if people have heard you on something, something in the
- 7:42Rain episode and more importantly, the flower of Evil
- 7:45episode, they will know that you love the crime.
- 7:47Dramas, you love the mystery dramas, the more darker tone
- 7:50dramas, which is A fantastic. When I first heard that on the
- 7:53something in the Rain episode, I was like, I got her on the wrong
- 7:56episode. This is like a bromance like
- 7:58that I never on here for. So I had you back your flowers
- 8:02of evil. And yeah, I knew that you loved
- 8:05watching. See dramas and I was so excited
- 8:07to to kind of hear your thoughts on till the end of the Moon.
- 8:12I know that we have watched it differently and we can talk
- 8:15about that in a second. All three of us have had like
- 8:17totally different experiences watching till the end of the
- 8:19moon but Thank you so, so much for being here.
- 8:24I'm pumped, let's get into it right after this.
- 8:28If this is your first time listening, wow, what an episode

- 9:14Sammy love you guys. And without further Ado I'm
- 9:18going to go ahead and read the IMDb This for the show,
- 9:23actually, big big PS a-- before we get started, spoilers are on
- 9:29the table, okay? This is basically going to be a
- 9:31final say episode, just like the love between Varian devil
- 9:34episode which means all bets are off if you hear a spoiler.
- 9:38It's because it was intended. I know that for the rest of
- 9:41those seasons of daebak. We are pretty strict with
- 9:44non-spoiler and spoiler episodes before the sciences and see
- 9:47dramas. I think we just, if you've
- 9:50pressed play more often than Not you probably watch this drama
- 9:53and we're just gonna go full send on it.
- 9:56Okay guys, spoilers go lower. Okay so here's the IMDb synopsis
- 10:01and Immortal Li xue is destined to time travel. 500 years back
- 10:05to prevent the death of a hostage Prince to stop his
- 10:08transformation into the devil. God who destroys four continents
- 10:12and three Realms will secrets of time and fate, deter her I
- 10:17decided to do the IMDb synopsis versus the Wikipedia or The my
- 10:22drama, listen ops's. Because those ones, I thought
- 10:25were a little bit hard to read and like, gave too much away.
- 10:28I guess, I don't know. We're gonna again, spoilers
- 10:33spoiler territory, starting in a couple of minutes, till the end
- 10:37of the Moon aired from April to May 20 23.
- 10:40It is adapter from a web novel, and I'm going to try and say the
- 10:44name of the novel. Hey, uh, gwang Nam when begged
- 10:49been, bye. Tong Wu, Wei zhi, I apologize to
- 10:55this greater because I pretty sure I butchered the name of
- 10:58the, the novel and their name, but it is adapted from a web
- 11:03novel which people have read. And we're excited to watch the
- 11:07show because they could access this novel and read it.
- 11:11Till the end of the moon is 40 episodes long and we'll talk
- 11:14about that whole thing later in the show as well.
- 11:19It's directed by a cuckoo clock Young He has directed things
- 11:23since the 80s directed and produced things.
- 11:26Since the 80s, including ice fantasy from 2016 and general.
- 11:30And I have you guys watched other other dramas from this
- 11:34director before, how do you think I did?
- 11:39I'm just bringing up his page because I remember looking at it
- 11:45and I can't remember if I had watched oh, I tried go into your
- 11:50heart, which is a 20 E1 drama. But I dropped that pretty
- 11:53quickly. I think I only got into like,
- 11:56two or three episodes, but I think that's the only thing I
- 11:59had seen of him before. Till the end of the Moon.
- 12:02Kaitland h-have you seen anything from the structor.
- 12:05I've seen both of the ones, you have listed ice fantasy, and
- 12:09general. And I so I dropped ice fantasy.
- 12:16You're nodding your head Caitlin's nodding her head.
- 12:18So ice fantasy has We bad CGI in it and I could not get past like
- 12:26the first few episodes. I did give it a nice good shot
- 12:29but like, no, absolutely not, but I did watch General and I
- 12:33from 2017, that one was not bad by any stretch.
- 12:37I thought it was pretty decent. So other than that, I hadn't
- 12:41watched anything from anything else from this director, till
- 12:44the end of the moon was written by him.
- 12:46If Fang and loss Iran, they are two female.
- 12:51Green writers. And this looks like their first
- 12:54writing credit ever which is pretty impressive.
- 12:57They are also their kind of booked in busy.
- 12:59After this. It looks like they're going to
- 13:01do, write the story of Hoshi which is on other.
- 13:05Another historical see drama and it's coming out in 2024.
- 13:08Presumably, I was very impressed.
- 13:13Like what do you guys think of this being their first writing
- 13:15credit and I thought it was incredible like the Play the
- 13:23know in terms like how to explain it.
- 13:25The book They're adapting from is really, really heavy dark
- 13:29material. Like so to adapt that into
- 13:33something that it has a little bit more of a wide appeal.
- 13:37I think they've done a really good job in that aspect.
- 13:41So yeah, I don't know the one that you mentioned, the one that
- 13:45they've got coming up the story of Quasi that has actually
- 13:50started to release. Posters, and trailers and
- 13:53whatnot. And it looks pretty darn good.
- 13:55And I'm, I've got that one on my plan to watch because I really
- 13:59like the male lead and the female lead for that.
- 14:01So, yeah, we'll see. We'll see if it was like a fluke
- 14:05or if they are actually pretty good writers.
- 14:08When that one comes out. Wow.
- 14:11I'm pumped man. Like we could have some people
- 14:13to watch. Like if these two screenwriters
- 14:16seem very promising to me because of this is their first
- 14:20see drama. It's like, oh my God, they got
- 14:23so much juice right now. I think they could do anything.
- 14:27All right, so let's talk about the two leaves and then we can
- 14:30also touch on the other cast members.
- 14:32But obviously, the two main leads are the biggest draw and
- 14:35the ones we see the most it is their story.
- 14:38We have rule young see as Tensai Jin songs.
- 14:43Do you mean it's being? Yeah.
- 14:47Yeah. I think for personas in total
- 14:50and He's done. I think everyone knows him from
- 14:54love is sweet to now but his breakout role was in ashes of
- 14:59Love which Liliana that was your very first CD drama.
- 15:03It was. How does it feel to see him now?
- 15:07After that he was your introduction And it was kind of
- 15:12surreal because PSI, if you've watched ashes of love, you know,
- 15:16his character has a pretty big up in terms of where he starts
- 15:21and where he ends the drama and like you could see the like the
- 15:27acting potential there, but the dramas that came after that,
- 15:31like it did, the scripts themselves didn't do him any
- 15:35good. And then now that this one came
- 15:38out it's like oh my God, he can Really really act and people are
- 15:43like yeah this is happening and I feel like it's the same thing
- 15:46that happened to like Dylan Wang last year with love between
- 15:50Ferry and devil and it's like you only need a really really
- 15:54good script to sink your teeth into.
- 15:57And if you know how to grab that your career will be set because
- 16:02after that, like people know you can act like they know you are
- 16:07capable of it. So and this is that drama for
- 16:10him. I think Think this is a drama
- 16:11that will launch him. Like, you know, into a really,
- 16:14really good career. What's your experience with Will
- 16:17Young see Kaitlyn? All right, don't come for me, no
- 16:22one's coming for you. This is this face.
- 16:24This is my first drama with him. Okay, I have not seen a shows a
- 16:29love and there's a reason for it.
- 16:33Oh my God. So do you care to share the
- 16:43reason? Or I don't particularly like the
- 16:45two female lead actresses. I've tried them both with
- 16:48multiple other dramas and I just can't.
- 16:51And I don't think it's them. Particularly, I think it's the
- 16:54voice dubbing that they always have.
- 16:57Hmm, I've always experienced, you know, you know, the typical
- 17:01like very high pitched like cute voice.
- 17:06Um, I can't, I can't get past it, so I always So she ate them
- 17:10with that type of voice. So I can't, I have not been able
- 17:14to watch those two dramas due to the fact that I just can't deal
- 17:18with their dubbing actors. So okay.
- 17:22All right, fair enough, that's totally fair.
- 17:24I'm 90 the story of both. I know, obviously I know the
- 17:28story about very nice old. I love between Ferry and devil.
- 17:34She isn't dubbed. That's her real voice throughout
- 17:36the whole draw. Okay, well I haven't even
- 17:38watched us. Seen, so maybe I should at least
- 17:40try and yeah. It sounds like her voice is
- 17:43pretty like high pitched and whatnot but that is her real.
- 17:47Yeah, that's Esther, use real voice.
- 17:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:49Yeah. That was that's the reason why I
- 17:53have not seen them. I'm and there's very few actors
- 17:55and actresses. I avoid in kdrama land and sea
- 17:59drama land. And those Jus just happen to be
- 18:01two of the actors as I avoid. Wow, I am so intrigued.
- 18:06Okay. So for me, I watched Yangtze and
- 18:10Ashes of love. Amazing, really nuanced
- 18:15character and quite a heartbreaking, you know, Persona
- 18:20in the show I think you come to really love him and appreciate
- 18:24him and then all of a sudden do the course of the show you'd
- 18:26like hate him and that's very difficult to do.
- 18:30Right? In any for any character I
- 18:33thought ashes love was written particularly.
- 18:34Well yes, the few projects that came after didn't seem to do
- 18:39Lowell Lowell, young, Chief Justice in In any sort of way.
- 18:44Love is sweet came in three years ago in 2020.
- 18:48I think a lot of people watch that one.
- 18:50Have you guys watched that one? I have.
- 18:53I love that one. I will say, I'm not a fan of
- 18:57the, like story itself. I'm a fan of, by Lou and the
- 19:01yunxi together and like that drama offered some Peak scenes
- 19:06between them. So I, you know, I was very much
- 19:10in it for the main couple and There's so much of them and so
- 19:14much like good scenes of them together that like I could
- 19:17ignore everything else basically.
- 19:19Okay, so I this is gonna don't come for me.
- 19:23Whoever's listening. I started watching love is sweet
- 19:25because I had seen so many edits of it on Instagram.
- 19:30A few years ago, I was like, oh my God, the show looks amazing.
- 19:33It looks like they have really great chemistry.
- 19:35I'm going to start it. I started watching it.
- 19:36The first episode was terrible to me.
- 19:38I hated it. It was it's a workplace romance,
- 19:42right? Right.
- 19:43And they were Hamming it up from the very beginning.
- 19:45Like, the way that they met and stuff, I was like, why does this
- 19:49look like a music video? And I was very distraught with
- 19:54the way that they just sort of like came in hot with all of the
- 19:58chemistry and sort of like these scenes that were really
- 20:01manufactured to get them together or to have some sort of
- 20:04like intimate moment. And I'm like, it feels unearned
- 20:08totally felt unearned to me. So I dropped love Sweet y'all.
- 20:14I did not finish that show. I had no regrets up until
- 20:18recently when people were like I'm watching love is sweet to
- 20:20get over till the end of the moon.
- 20:22This is like their reincarnation or whatever people China you
- 20:27know self-soothe by watching. Love is sweet which is fine.
- 20:33More power to you, I will eventually watch love is sweet,
- 20:37just to just to get it over with, I guess.
- 20:41But it was not, it's not my genre, I don't like office
- 20:46romances and yeah, I will say that I love is sweet because of
- 20:53till the end of the Moon. They like, because people wanted
- 20:56to watch it, it made it to number one on ITV again, three
- 21:00years after it premiered. So that's the power of this
- 21:04couple. Like I Chi had a couple of
- 21:07dramas on air that will really like they were pretty good.
- 21:10There were doing really well and then out of nowhere a
- 21:13three-year-old drama bounces like to number one on their
- 21:17charts and people are like yeah that's the Power of these two
- 21:20together because everybody wants to see them and iqiyi like on
- 21:24all of their socials were basically just sharing
- 21:27everything. Love is sweet, everything like
- 21:29that by Lou was in that they owned.
- 21:32They were just like Hamming, it up and sharing it and marketing
- 21:35because they knew that was, you know, the people of the moment.
- 21:39So speaking of by Alou by Lou is co-starring, she plays Lee
- 21:44soo-ah issue song, did you Albin again multiple Personas in the
- 21:50show, what? I mean, I think Liliana is very
- 21:55has been very vocal about, absolutely, loving, by Lou.
- 21:59You have bought all the by loose talk.
- 22:02So, King. Well, I've watched every I've
- 22:05basically watched every single drama that she's been in.
- 22:09So yeah, you can say, I've bought all the stock.
- 22:13So basically it so much so that she was literally on, you know,
- 22:18on auntie. And so do I have like the actor
- 22:21and actresses series and she was the first actress.
- 22:24I did an episode on and to say, you can tell, I think, I
- 22:30basically started the first Thing I ever watched her in was
- 22:33the Legends, and then I just worked my way through all of
- 22:37her, like, things, I think there's then to dramas that I
- 22:41haven't watched and it that is Untouchable lovers.
- 22:45And because she's only like a side character in that and even
- 22:48then, even being a side character, she actually won an
- 22:51award for that for, like, Breakthrough award and so, yeah,
- 22:57but I just think she invoked really well on screen and it,
- 23:01Lates at least to me, it translates really well and she
- 23:05has this thing where I might be biased, but everything I've
- 23:09watched a hen in. She has really good chemistry
- 23:12with her co-stars which lie to me, that's really important.
- 23:16If a drum would like I think if a drama doesn't have chemistry
- 23:19between their leads, it really suffers greatly.
- 23:21So I agree with that. So Caitlin have you watched by
- 23:26Lou in some other dramas, did you have an opinion of her
- 23:29before coming into till the end of the Moon?
- 23:31Oh, yeah. Yeah, by Lou is one of my
- 23:33favorites as well. Like I watched her in one and
- 23:37only with one of my favorite actors out and run.
- 23:41So I love Alan run. So I've watched everything with
- 23:43him but I think I've seen other ones.
- 23:48I know I've seen the Legends and I want to say that was my first
- 23:51one with her gotcha. Yeah, right.
- 23:56Yeah. And I think I tried the Arsenal
- 23:58academy one and for some reason I put it on hold.
- 24:02For some reason I know and I didn't go back I can't remember
- 24:05why I was liking it but I think my watchlist got too heavy or
- 24:08something and I was like I'm going to put this on hold or
- 24:10something but yeah I definitely there was an opinion of her I
- 24:15had and then I saw one and only and I was like, okay well that's
- 24:19just it's going to be one of my favorite actresses now.
- 24:22So I had a good opinion before that.
- 24:25But I think one and only for me one and only seem to put her
- 24:31into a higher tier than what I'd seen.
- 24:37Both previously just like maybe it was a script maybe she had
- 24:40done some acting training something but like it just
- 24:44seemed do there was a big difference from what I'd seen
- 24:47But of her before then I watch one and only and then that was
- 24:51like yeah. Wow.
- 24:52So yeah. So for me this till the end of
- 24:56moon is my very first time seeing by Lou in a draw in a
- 25:01completed drama, right. Because I drop love is sweet
- 25:04after a few episodes. I did not finish that show.
- 25:07This is the first time that I've really sink my teeth into her,
- 25:10and her character, her acting loved it.
- 25:13Loved her can't wait to watch the other dramas, especially
- 25:17one, and only, and the Legends, which the Legends has been on my
- 25:21watch list for like years, right?
- 25:23Like it came out in 2019 and I remember being like, Oh, I gotta
- 25:26watch this. And then never again, through
- 25:28life. And I just, I kind of savor
- 25:31these, like, I really like watching Sanchez and I could And
- 25:37to save them, right? I'm like, oh, Manilow like what
- 25:40you see, I'm saying, I get really excited and watch them.
- 25:43So by Lou, I mean, she sunk my battleship in this show, I
- 25:48thought she was really great. Same thing with Lil young, she
- 25:51funny thing is, I feel like by Lou its kind of warranted that
- 25:55she's a great is she's a very good actress.
- 25:58Well young, she is a little bit more of an oddball because he
- 26:03started as a professional ballet dancer, he taught by Ballet.
- 26:07And then he got into music and he was in a band and then he
- 26:13kind of made his way into acting which is very interesting.
- 26:17How did you guys feel about? Maybe seeing Lou young, she's
- 26:23dance background in the context of the show.
- 26:28Say for me, personally, I've mentioned this before, but I
- 26:32think that if, if actors and actresses have a dancing
- 26:38background, it really, really helps when it comes to she Entre
- 26:41because it makes them movements, especially when they're doing
- 26:45wire work so much better. Like they know how to position,
- 26:50you know, their bodies, they know how to move their bodies to
- 26:53like, you know, be on screen for those specifics.
- 26:57Scenes. So I think Lou, you and she is
- 27:00so good in Sharjah and in Period costume and whatnot because of
- 27:05this. And he has this like face.
- 27:07I know this is gonna sound strange.
- 27:10I don't know. Right.
- 27:11So to me. There's actors and actresses
- 27:13that just don't look right in period, Cause yes that make like
- 27:17their space doesn't work for period costume and that might
- 27:21be, you know, shallow of me or whatever it may not know, but I
- 27:24did it because I think this is absolutely true.
- 27:28Sorry but he he has this face that whenever he gets the wig
- 27:32and you know the long flowing hair, it suits him.
- 27:35So well that you know, the whole thing just comes together and he
- 27:40looks brilliant in Period costume.
- 27:43So I you know just feel like whenever it comes to who you and
- 27:47cheat, he should just do period costume all the time.
- 27:51But, you know, because he looks so good in it and you know,
- 27:54having that dance background, it really works.
- 27:57For him, when it comes to all the wire work because I feel
- 28:00like it's good in that sense but also I feel like dancers really
- 28:04know how to win mote on screen. And I was saying for like four
- 28:09by Luke, she actually started as a dancer as well.
- 28:13Not quite as much as you know, Louis and she, but she went to
- 28:16school for dancing, right before she actually changed into
- 28:19acting, so that I think like there's a way that dancers kind
- 28:25of have to win moat through their body language.
- 28:27Like to use their faces because they don't use words that use
- 28:30their body and their face. And I think that really comes
- 28:33through whenever they act because they don't necessarily
- 28:36have to use their words to put an emotion across the screen.
- 28:39And I feel like, you know, that's one of the biggest acts
- 28:41that you know, coming from dancing into actor.
- 28:44Absolutely Caitlin. Did you have any feelings about
- 28:47it? Did you know, I was a dancer.
- 28:49I did. Yeah, and I have the same
- 28:51opinion. I think it just shows wirework
- 28:55and sword fighting. They also, I think they also,
- 28:59yeah, it's all they know how to use the choreo and the camera
- 29:04angles to get the best shots and know how the position in their
- 29:08body. Speaking of by Lou did it by
- 29:12Lou, want to become a like a KPop star at some point.
- 29:16Didn't you audition for like SMR something?
- 29:19And she did she auditioned for? Yeah, she did.
- 29:23She's actually fluent in Korean she auditioned for Sm
- 29:28entertainment, but didn't I think she didn't get in.
- 29:31So she came back to China and then founded agency and China
- 29:35and kind of like well that's what I thought so yeah.
- 29:38Um but yeah I think I think the opinion is correct in terms of
- 29:42they just know how to they look more fluid on a wire or in Sword
- 29:48fights or whatever. I think they just know how to
- 29:50move away. Yeah you can tell they know how
- 29:53to move in a way that a person who doesn't have the background.
- 29:57Would never really not that they would be bad at it.
- 30:00I'm where, and we're not snot, where were saying, but there's
- 30:02just like a difference. You can see if they have a dance
- 30:05background versus. If they.
- 30:07Don't, I think there's something to be said about athleticism.
- 30:11Yeah, because I most people don't feel like ballet is
- 30:15ballet. Dancers are athletes and I do
- 30:17feel like they are athletes and it's an incredibly physical
- 30:21demanding sport, even if it is also an art and to translate
- 30:26that into the sea, This is worth so much choreography and
- 30:30wirework and using swords and just moving their body fluidly.
- 30:35Like they've been alive for 10,000 years and have been doing
- 30:38this every day. Like it is very cool and they
- 30:43look amazing doing it. And I have no doubt that.
- 30:47I mean I agree with you guys like their dance background has
- 30:50completely been utilized in this role especially consider
- 30:55Michelle. Yo, who is also came I'm from a
- 30:58dance background. She was a professional ballet
- 31:00dancer went to London to study ballet and unfortunately had a
- 31:03spinal injury and now she's Michelle yeoh like Michelle
- 31:06fucking yo. And again all of the Lucia
- 31:09Cinema that she has been in and all of the demanding, she's been
- 31:15a Bond girl. She's been everything it is.
- 31:18I think made infinitely better because she does have that dance
- 31:22background and she knows how to move and she is an athlete and
- 31:25she takes care of herself like an But so yeah, I did want to
- 31:30touch base on that. Okay, so we're at the end of
- 31:34this. We will talk about the other
- 31:35cast members for sure, as we go through our thoughts on the
- 31:39drama. But honestly, like what you guys
- 31:41do, I think we, we know what we thought because we've been
- 31:44communicating for weeks, but, and in case they haven't
- 31:48listened to the teens old, you episodes.
- 31:51But you've been putting out, like, I guess every in
- 31:55increments of 15 or 20. As you've been putting out.
- 31:58Yeah, your thoughts. But Liliana what did you think
- 32:02of till the end of the Moon? Oh God, I didn't wait to start.
- 32:07I I really, really loved it. I really did.
- 32:11I think it's a well-told story within the boundaries of Chinese
- 32:16drama land. And I think that's important to
- 32:18keep in mind because not only do they have censorship to deal
- 32:22with but, you know, episode carts, whatever.
- 32:24I think they did a really good, you know, the way they linked
- 32:29everything up within the story, there was details in episode 14,
- 32:3415 That came back in episode 38 39, that link to the whole story
- 32:39together and I feel like, you know, it made the whole story a
- 32:43little bit cohesive even if the editing and the pacing sometimes
- 32:48suffered. But that I don't think is a, you
- 32:51know, writing problem. I think it was the fact that
- 32:53they had to cut it, you know. Down and the acting to me is
- 32:58just insane in this drama. I loved the acting especially
- 33:02from Louis and she and Bi-Lo, they're acting was really.
- 33:04Really good. But yeah.
- 33:06Without giving any spoilers I can't say much more than I.
- 33:09Absolutely. I just loved this drama.
- 33:12I really really did. I as soon as it was announced I
- 33:16have been following this drama since day.
- 33:19One of it being announced as an adaptation because again big fan
- 33:24of both of the leads and I was like it's yantra.
- 33:27It's by Luann do you cheat in children?
- 33:29I'm like, sign me up like, I don't care.
- 33:33We're done how so And then last year, they introduced, like they
- 33:39released the first posters for it.
- 33:41And the first posters, like the first trailer that they released
- 33:44for this character. Trailer was basically, there was
- 33:48a mirror and in the mirror, it was luo Yin Shi in like, modern
- 33:52clothing and he was looking and he sought and hygiene in like
- 33:56all of his glory and it is stunning and they did the same
- 33:59with by Lou, like modern clothing in the mirror and then
- 34:02her in all her and that was the The first thing we sort of from
- 34:06this drama and then yeah and then all the posters started
- 34:09coming out and it was stunning and to me like the first thing
- 34:12that really really grabbed me was like all the colors are used
- 34:16which if you watch your answer, you know, that's not a done
- 34:19thing. They tend to go you know for the
- 34:21muted whites and pale colors and what not?
- 34:25But this drama was not about that.
- 34:26Like yes, there's some of that but for the most part it's like
- 34:30dark but vibrant colors and that grabbed me straight away.
- 34:34I, you know, I it was all downhill from there.
- 34:37I mean, it, I always said if all else fails, I know the chemistry
- 34:42for these two will be insane because I had watched them in.
- 34:45Love is sweet and I know their chemistry.
- 34:47So if all else failed I was down for that and you know for me, I
- 34:51loved it from the, you know, episode 1.
- 34:53Like since you have that epic opening scene.
- 34:56I was like, sign me up. I'm done.
- 34:57I'm done. Yeah, that opener will get to in
- 35:01a second. You mentioned that you basically
- 35:04have Watched it from day, one from promo all the way through
- 35:07the end. You watch it as it was earring.
- 35:09Do you want to speak really quick on how the atmosphere
- 35:13online was watching it during its airing?
- 35:18Sorry. Hey I'll take and you die.
- 35:23I for me it was torture. Everybody was suffering
- 35:27together. In terms of you had two camps
- 35:30for this drama normally, there's like the people that are really
- 35:34liking it, the people that are loving it, that people are
- 35:37enjoying it, and then the people that just don't care, for this
- 35:40drama, you either loved it or you hate it and you like into
- 35:43camps and that was the atmosphere on light.
- 35:46It was like, constant War. Ring for, you know, the 40
- 35:51episodes. But I managed to keep away from
- 35:53like a lot of that and the people that I followed that will
- 35:56really loving it. It was like, we were all in the
- 35:59same ship because watching this on air was torturous because so
- 36:05it really was like youku for two weeks straight.
- 36:09They released episodes every single day and I was like, this
- 36:12is great. I get episodes every day and
- 36:15then they turn around and go. Oh no, we're only releasing.
- 36:18Singing episodes four days a week now, and we're like, What
- 36:21do we do for the three other days in the week?
- 36:24Do you expect us to just wait for episodes and then they left,
- 36:29like the three last episodes for, like, the last week, and
- 36:33you had to wait four days to get those.
- 36:35Oh my God. Like, you're just killing us.
- 36:38Hey, what are we supposed to do with this?
- 36:41So, yeah, it was torture to watch this.
- 36:44But like that, good torture of like anticipation because you're
- 36:48so, Excited to watch the next episodes that kind of torture.
- 36:52That was what it was like watching it on air.
- 36:54Oh wow. Yeah, it was wild Caitlin.
- 36:57I don't think you watched it as it was airing.
- 37:00Do you want to comment on how you approach the show and how
- 37:03you liked it? Um, well, I mean, you touched on
- 37:07it at the beginning, I kind of was broked into this and had to
- 37:10watch. It's like a two-week span, which
- 37:14normally I don't do, like I do. I normally would see dramas, I
- 37:18wait until they're done airing because one for me because I
- 37:22usually watch kdramas as they are, the amount of Of episodes
- 37:26that come out in the rotation that they come out and see
- 37:28dramas, it's just way too fast for me.
- 37:30I end up buying mind anyway. So I just ran rather like wait
- 37:35until it's almost done airing or done airing which is why I'm
- 37:39like for example, still watching Love Like a Galaxy even though
- 37:43it's like two Hoots later. Anyway, I'm sorry, I don't mean
- 37:49to laugh. Okay, so keep it going.
- 37:51Yeah. So I was I was planning on
- 37:56watching this. Anyway.
- 37:57I just hadn't gotten around because, as I said, I'm still
- 38:00watching Love Like the Galaxy. I wanted to finish that first,
- 38:03but I was roped in to watch his son and so I had the binge it in
- 38:07over the last two weeks. So I did like 20 episodes last
- 38:10week and 20 episodes up until last night at like 1:00 a.m.,
- 38:14and which is a very not Norm. I do not binge like, literally I
- 38:18dropped everything else. I was watching and I watched
- 38:20this for the last two weeks, I don't normally do that.
- 38:24That being said though, Though the fact that like I was able to
- 38:28do that and watch 45 because as you were mentioning with the
- 38:34with the cuts and the things that they had to cut it down
- 38:37into a 40 episodes. Now, these episodes are almost
- 38:39an hour long whereas when you're watching older dramas there like
- 38:4430 to 45 minutes. So it's it for my opinion, the
- 38:4845-minute Mark is very easy to binge various worse versus like
- 38:53if you're doing an hour hour and a half, like 15 minute episodes.
- 38:57It's a lot harder for me to binge it, especially if I'm I'm
- 39:00weird where it's like, I cannot watch more than three episodes
- 39:03in a row of the same show, which is why I watched so many dramas
- 39:06at the same time because I switch around this one.
- 39:10Knowing I had a deadline. I had to, I had to watch, but
- 39:15like the fact that I could and I was watching like six episodes a
- 39:18day or eight episodes a day. Spoke to how much I loved it
- 39:25because I wasn't for lack of a better term and I didn't get
- 39:30bored with what I was watching. I'm sorry that I had to like
- 39:36make more so show outside of your regular watch.
- 39:40I mean, honestly, I'm glad you did because who knows what I
- 39:43would actually have watched this.
- 39:45I would be lying saying I was planning on watching this with
- 39:47in 2023 because God knows what would have happened.
- 39:51So I'm grateful. You made me.
- 39:54Watch this. Okay well I I watch the show
- 40:00after it was completely aired. I decided, Well, I went on
- 40:05vacation. And before I went on vacation, I
- 40:07saw a bunch of promo stuff. A bunch of like Supercut edits
- 40:10and I was like, this fucking slaps.
- 40:13I cannot wait to watch the show when I get back from vacation
- 40:18and when I came back again, I had like one or two weeks of the
- 40:22catching up time. And then I started watching the
- 40:24show and I could not stop messaging Liliana, I was sending
- 40:28her voice mail. Most like voice messages of me,
- 40:31just kind of experiencing the drama and I was hooked and I
- 40:36started, you know, bingeing the episodes.
- 40:39And then I had to stop for, like, a day.
- 40:41I couldn't watch anything and then, I would binge more
- 40:42episodes, I'm a Binger. Boy that I love this show,
- 40:47though. I thought it was really
- 40:49angst-filled, and I'm not sure if I've gone on record as saying
- 40:52this, but I freaking love when there's high stakes, High angst
- 40:58in dramas to me, the conflict is everything.
- 41:02I personally don't like it when it's all fluffy.
- 41:04When it's all butterflies and rainbows.
- 41:07And they're having the good times together, because to me,
- 41:10why, what's the, why am I watching like, what is the
- 41:13conflict? What are they trying to?
- 41:15Workout in the course of the drama.
- 41:17What are the character arcs if nobody changes and was the
- 41:20point? So, I was really appreciative of
- 41:24the fact that this drama took a lot of it was moving at a
- 41:29Breakneck pace, for sure, especially because of all the
- 41:31cuts, but it was freaking moving, and it was playing.
- 41:38If you feel me and I adored all of the characters and their arcs
- 41:42and I loved the acting from our two leads, I Was incredible.
- 41:47Well young. She and his micro like changes
- 41:51in his face and the way that he was emoting.
- 41:56So well and the way that by Lou was just so tragic.
- 42:01Like, I feel like her character is sort of underrated in the
- 42:04fact that she is also a tragic figure, and we can talk about
- 42:07that. But I also love High fantasy.
- 42:12Like I've said in the love between furry and double
- 42:13episode, this had like a Terminator ask plot going like
- 42:17the you got to reverse what happened.
- 42:21You know, the atrocity that happened and we got to go back
- 42:24500 years and she's the chosen one.
- 42:27She's like the you know John Connor sort of character and it
- 42:33reminded me of the sea drama lost love and time.
- 42:36I don't know if you guys have seen that one we're like all
- 42:39hell breaks loose and the female leads Mage Clan is slaughtered.
- 42:46They managed to send her back in time to reverse the future was
- 42:49basically like the same set up right as that show even though
- 42:53that show didn't really like land the plane.
- 42:56So to speak. As far as like plot goes, I
- 42:58thought it was like a little bit bad but wow what a show.
- 43:04I loved the angst. It made me really emotional and
- 43:09made me think about a lot of things.
- 43:10Like what would I do if I was this character, right?
- 43:14I feel like that's The sign of a really good movie or show is
- 43:18like, it makes you think like, well damn, if I was tense ijen.
- 43:22What would I do? You know in his shoes or how
- 43:26would I reactive X i's are? Instead this said this to me and
- 43:30I was Seuss character. So like it's very
- 43:34thought-provoking in that sense. How did you guys feel about the
- 43:40acting and Especially from our two leads.
- 43:45And send me, I think this is by far out of everything that I've
- 43:52seen from Lucci. This is the best woul he has,
- 43:56ever done, like, of his career. In terms of, first of all,
- 44:01there's a lot for him to sink his teeth into for contagion.
- 44:06There's he starts off as this character.
- 44:10That is not feeling, he doesn't know, love if he doesn't know
- 44:14any of So, that's the character he is, and then by the end of
- 44:20this drama, he's a totally different character.
- 44:23And there's his whole journey and I think Luann she just did
- 44:27it so well, but also the fact that you could look.
- 44:32So there's a couple of scenes where there's the devil God
- 44:35ancient devil God. And there's talent agent.
- 44:37And you can tell, exactly which character is, which just by
- 44:42looking at his face, they're dressed in the same clothes.
- 44:45It's the same actor, but by his micro Expressions, you can tell
- 44:50which character, he, he's meant to be playing in that scene.
- 44:53And I think that's a, really, really difficult thing for an
- 44:57actor or an actress to pull off is to like add Nuance to certain
- 45:01parts of his acting to make like different characters stand out
- 45:06when you're playing, you know, two or three different
- 45:09characters within a drama. So from him, I just absolutely
- 45:15His acting. I think his micro-expressions
- 45:17are absolutely on point and for by Lou I really loved her
- 45:22character. I think a character is really
- 45:25underestimated and like when it was airing a lot of people were,
- 45:31you know, saying that her character was this and her
- 45:34character was that but her acting was on point.
- 45:36She has quite a few scenes where it's really heavy emotional
- 45:41scenes. I mean, you open up that episode
- 45:431 and the first First thing when you meet by, you know, when you
- 45:47meet Lee soo soo, her character had Clan has been decimated and
- 45:52there is, you know, she's being sent back in time and her whole
- 45:57like her expression hurt, you can feel like the sadness and
- 46:01the anger and just everything rolling off her you know through
- 46:05the screen. You empathize with her straight
- 46:08away like with her struggle. So I think they both absolutely
- 46:12and nailed their characters and I It's one of those things where
- 46:17I can't imagine anyone else playing those characters, but
- 46:21goes to so and when you do that I think you know you've nailed
- 46:26your character if you can't if you become so involved and so
- 46:31much into that character. That you know if you were can't
- 46:36imagine anyone else but you playing it.
- 46:38You've done your job right for me.
- 46:39Anyways kahlan. Did you have thoughts on the
- 46:42acting? Um really it's yeah.
- 46:45Yeah, I mean, like I have a thing for actors that can do
- 46:50microaggressions. Very Michael micro Expressions
- 46:53very well, as well as like emote emotions.
- 46:56Just through like their eyes and not have to do very much in
- 47:01terms of, Showing an emotion they were showing by being
- 47:07overly expressive and things. So like that's one of the
- 47:10reasons why I love Alan run so much because he can do that very
- 47:13well. So because this is my first
- 47:15introduction to Liu Yuan Shi. I do appreciate that about like
- 47:20there's this scene where like you were talking about how they
- 47:24were in the scene to get. He was in the scene together
- 47:26with himself and you could tell and I agree, I totally agree
- 47:30with that. But the scene, where, bye.
- 47:34Lou is. Was it her?
- 47:40It wasn't sousou. It was, what was her other
- 47:43character named? Yes, you, yes, she will.
- 47:46When she was first trying to figure out, like, what she may
- 47:52be? I what?
- 47:53Yeah, I was. Yes, she will.
- 47:54Yeah, so she was like, trying to figure out like, where she was
- 47:58and what her relationship was. And if he was really the devil,
- 48:03God write tan shite on 10th agent kujan.
- 48:10Where she like kneels down and to look them in the face.
- 48:13And like tells he said, he, I am a nice guy and like, tells him
- 48:18he was angry, like the the facial expressions that he did
- 48:22in that seem from, like, going on one, where a guy looks like
- 48:25totally pitiful. And like, just kill me now to,
- 48:30like, I want to kill you in like a matter of seconds, like, that
- 48:34was a scene that told me. Like man, this guy can really
- 48:38Act Make so I love. Yeah, I just I fall in love with
- 48:42actors who can do that and I mean, by lose the same way like
- 48:46the one of the reasons why I love by Louis Deacon also a
- 48:49moat, a lot of emotion by just through her eyes and just
- 48:53through like, not really doing much in terms of overacting or
- 48:58anything like that. There's a, and you were speaking
- 49:02Lily about like, how she always has chemistry with everybody and
- 49:05I totally agree with that. She has I mean, I watched her
- 49:10with out and run and they have a lot of chemistry together, but
- 49:14she also does well in terms of, she may have chemistry with
- 49:17everyone, she's with, but she has a unique chemistry with each
- 49:23of the pairings. Like, you don't, you don't think
- 49:25like, oh, here's another pairing where she has chemistry, but
- 49:29like, there's something special with, like, I loved her and Alan
- 49:33run together in terms of one and only, but her and luo Yin Shi
- 49:37together. Has a different aura about
- 49:41attended, different aspects, different atmosphere.
- 49:45So I'm curious to Swatch love and sweet and see if it was the
- 49:49story that had the different atmosphere and that like their
- 49:53chemistry, obviously is still going to be there in love and
- 49:55sleep. But like, is it a different
- 49:57Aura? Then what would be till the end
- 49:59of the moon? But again, by lose my girl.
- 50:03So, like always, I will love her but she she and I loved.
- 50:06I loved both of their acting in this.
- 50:08And I think it also goes to tell to where it's like to act well
- 50:13in a Sean Shaw is very hard to do because like a lot of the
- 50:19times. In terms of Chandra you have a
- 50:21lot of CGI, you have a lot of like things you're not really.
- 50:27Like you may not be talking to anybody like you're talking to
- 50:30something that's going to be CGI, didn't later.
- 50:33Like, so there's a certain type of talent that you can do that
- 50:38very Very well and these to do it very well because a lot of
- 50:42times you're in a green screen and you're interacting with
- 50:46something that's not there and to make that believable for them
- 50:49to put in the CGI and believable for them to do that.
- 50:52It takes in my opinion takes of very skilled person to do.
- 50:59Yes, I agree completely with both of you guys for young, she
- 51:03I would say the micro expressions.
- 51:06And I also want to point out that he chose to do a bit of
- 51:12like a Devil Wears Prada with his character in that he is not
- 51:16every time he's angry or aggressive or rageful.
- 51:22He is not loud and abrasive or anything, he is very muted.
- 51:29And it's all in the way that he comports himself.
- 51:32He made the way he stiffens the way.
- 51:34He moves his head, the way that he is emoting very small
- 51:40movements on his face. They'll let you know he's
- 51:43fucking pissed and I love when rage is not this like complete
- 51:49Outburst of a thing for a character.
- 51:52It feels much more natural for a calculating individual to be.
- 51:59Calculating in their reactions and I love that he chose to do
- 52:02that throughout the show. We're even if he's angry even if
- 52:05he's upset he's not like oh and throwing things around the room
- 52:10and just being very loose with his reactions in his emotions.
- 52:16He is really dialing it in. And for by Lou I said that I've
- 52:21said this before on, like the goblin episode with Puck, no
- 52:27game going where there's Thing about like a character just
- 52:30doing like a guttural scream. And in the first episode, she
- 52:34has one of these moments where her entire Clan is obliterated
- 52:39and she's coming face to face with the demon god that fucking
- 52:43murdered everybody. Like just smirked, everybody off
- 52:45the planet and she's just like haha.
- 52:49Like she does like this really intense scream and I'm like that
- 52:53is one of those screams that's not necessarily just rage, it's
- 52:57pain, right? Like in Goblin where she looses
- 53:00the Goblin in that moment and she's like, I got you start
- 53:02screaming, you feel it in the pit of your stomach, that it's a
- 53:07loss, right? And it's anger and everything
- 53:12all mixed together and I love how by Lou did that in the
- 53:15beginning. She does that and various points
- 53:17in the show where she's just like very frustrated and in like
- 53:23some semblance of like existential pain, right?
- 53:27I Out both of their choices for the character and, you know, I
- 53:33don't want to beat a dead horse here.
- 53:34Let's move on to the Wardrobe and the styling of both of them
- 53:40because the one of my favorite things about the show was China
- 53:44of reading up on everyone's reactions to low young.
- 53:47She and his wardrobe the way that 10 teijin was serving
- 53:53throughout the show. I one of my favorite things that
- 53:57I read was he was part of my French.
- 53:58Serving content for 40 episodes. And I was like, yes, he was
- 54:02because there was no reason for him to be as offensively
- 54:06attractive. As he was in the show, he's
- 54:09already a fine-looking gentleman.
- 54:11What the fuck were they feeding him on the set?
- 54:14And I was like unbelievably obsessed with him in the show.
- 54:22This kid, the characters that he had in the show by loose looked
- 54:26stunning. Like would you guys think of all
- 54:28this? And I loved the look for both of
- 54:33them like I said you know right from the beginning right?
- 54:36From those very first you know posters that they set out.
- 54:41I don't know if you guys came across this because this was
- 54:45happening when it was on air but it was quite funny when it was
- 54:49airing and the first couple of episodes that you seat anti
- 54:53Gina's is very pitiful person. He was constantly being compared
- 54:58online tool Like a Disney princess because he can speak to
- 55:03animals and he can, you know, do all of these things and then
- 55:07like his Expressions would change and whatnot.
- 55:11And I kid you not. It was the most hilarious thing
- 55:15that the fandom was doing at the time.
- 55:17And he goes, you know, there was loads of memes and whatnot of
- 55:21him and obviously then has like these very flowy gowns and
- 55:25everybody was just going, oh my God, there's just flew you and
- 55:28cheese serving. Incest again, and everybody was
- 55:30like, it was hilarious. Absolutely hilarious.
- 55:34But yeah, those those were very, very comical.
- 55:37But the thing is, I like you as saying about, you know, his
- 55:41overall look to be my favorite look for him, is when he becomes
- 55:45the emperor and he has lovely braids in and it's like it's an
- 55:50Amish to like his mother's tribe.
- 55:53And I love it because he serves a throughout the whole of that
- 55:58like It's a complete change from where he starts in very plain
- 56:02clothing, you know, he's pretty pitiful at that point.
- 56:06And then he becomes like this person and this Emperor and this
- 56:10powerful character and he's wearing a very heavy clothing,
- 56:14very like beautiful, you know, clothing on him and Lisa.
- 56:20So you know by Lou what can you say?
- 56:21I still cannot believe that people said she wasn't, you
- 56:25know, uh, beautiful enough to pull off a goddamn like I don't
- 56:29We'll get into like some of the controversies right after this.
- 56:31And then we're going like to. Yeah, we're gonna go right into
- 56:34like the eras of the show and talk about each section,
- 56:38basically, but I read online the other day, they had this
- 56:41beautiful freaking photo of ten teijin before he becomes the
- 56:46Jing King and he's wearing again like these beautiful flowy.
- 56:51Robes. And the robes had like their
- 56:54speckled with red which are stunning.
- 56:57It's like these layers of blue And white and then speckled with
- 57:00red and someone was like, yes, it's could be part of staying
- 57:05that way or died that way, but it could also be because of all
- 57:09the years of abuse that this character suffered that the
- 57:12blood just doesn't wash out of the clothes anymore.
- 57:15So, it's like for a reminder of the pain and anguish that he's
- 57:19been suffering all these years because the blood at just
- 57:22doesn't come out of his clothes and I was like that is a
- 57:24brilliant idea to kind of poetically.
- 57:30Reference the clothes right that he's wearing and how it
- 57:33represents the character. I love the braids and the hair
- 57:38for when he is the king and I for by Lou my favorite look is
- 57:44in the board a life the enlightened life when she goes
- 57:49and becomes a devil and like the black black and I think there's
- 57:54like a little bit of red in it. That outfit was like stunning to
- 57:58me. I was like, oh my God, she looks
- 58:00so good as a devil and lots of lots of looks in the show were
- 58:08amazing. Do you know there is I think I
- 58:12saved the Tweet somewhere but they said there was close to
- 58:174,000 sketches for this drama in terms of looks and I feel like
- 58:24this Sean sure is one of the very very very few where every
- 58:30single life is distinct in their clothing but every clothing
- 58:35links back. So basically, you know in the
- 58:38bore our life minghui He has the badge like the red around his
- 58:44waist when he gets married like the red strength, those strings,
- 58:48get carried on and that's like an almost like him paying almost
- 58:52to like the wedding with, you know, seung-jo in that life.
- 58:56And if you look later when, you know closer to the end, there's
- 59:02same outfit when he, you know, this is like episode 4, 40, he
- 59:06still has those red strings on and it's like, The way they link
- 59:11these clothes together. It's just stunning for me by
- 59:14Lou. It's one outfit that she wore
- 59:17very very little amount of time and it's like that gold outfit
- 59:21would like the white and that outfit is was that like at the
- 59:25end of the show and she becomes the goddess, not that one, the
- 59:29one when she is basically on the I think it's episode 26 27, when
- 59:36she exactly that one that Stunning stunning, absolutely
- 59:43stunning stunning, but then, but then she has like the orange
- 59:47one. We're right at the end.
- 59:49This is it end of episode 40 and she's sitting on the boulder
- 59:52with the you know little girl and that's that that dress that
- 59:56orange dress is also stunning. Do you know I think that the
- 1:00:02show does I mean most chances do this but I think the show
- 1:00:05particularly does a really good job.
- 1:00:06Like you said of it's using the Wardrobe to also indicate what
- 1:00:11stage of Life there at what their mental state is, how
- 1:00:14they've journeyed through the show as a character.
- 1:00:17And at the end of the show when she's in these oranges, it is
- 1:00:20not only a stunning Alpha, but it also kind of pulls from her
- 1:00:24mother and her mother's outfit as the goddess of space, her
- 1:00:28where she was in. He's like, deep oranges.
- 1:00:31And again, it's like her accepting her identity, her
- 1:00:35accepting her role as a goddess. And, you know, With her mother
- 1:00:40and her mother's, tribe is the Phoenix Clan and stuff like
- 1:00:44that. It is so beautiful to see it
- 1:00:48represented in the clothing. And I love the red string that
- 1:00:51you were talking about 410 tie as well.
- 1:00:54I just the red string is always like a good idea to me, but it
- 1:00:57represents them. The love love lines and stuff
- 1:01:00like that, fate and destiny, in terms of romance.
- 1:01:04I love that. I love all that, but like just
- 1:01:08just a, I'll just leave This very last or even for like their
- 1:01:12daughter, even her clothing is a mixture of both tan taejin and,
- 1:01:19you know, Sue, Sue. Like if you look at the
- 1:01:22clothing, that's that little girl is wearing at the end.
- 1:01:25It's like a mixture of both of her heritage's.
- 1:01:28And like, I feel like the costuming department in this
- 1:01:32drama. Just nailed it.
- 1:01:34Just nailed. And I do too controversy.
- 1:01:37Let's talk about controversy because you mentioned Some of it
- 1:01:41rapid fire Bull young. She is too thin for the role.
- 1:01:48Right. As I understand is that he was
- 1:01:51injured before filming and he was recovering, and that's why
- 1:01:55he something about his jaw, had to be wired, shut or something.
- 1:02:00He was on a liquid diet, but I like you and she has always been
- 1:02:04on the thinner side. Anyways, it's a balaram.
- 1:02:07He's a ballet dancer like, what, what do you expect out of him?
- 1:02:11But also there was complaints that the makeup he was wearing
- 1:02:15was making him look. Look really, really frail.
- 1:02:18Newsflash, the he is described in the book as this very pale
- 1:02:24red lipped again, princess reference red, you do pale red
- 1:02:29lipped character throughout the whole book.
- 1:02:32So the writers and the directing people were just paying homage
- 1:02:36to what the book said about tan taejin and people like our, he
- 1:02:40looks to fray, or he looks too skinny, like how we meant to
- 1:02:43ship him as like this powerful. And I'm like, he can be powerful
- 1:02:48without being this over masculine, you know.
- 1:02:51It doesn't have to show Power in that way.
- 1:02:53You can show Power in various ways, but yet he, there was a
- 1:02:57big thing about land. I was like, I don't see it, I am
- 1:03:01fight to the point where actually Yoku went in and redid
- 1:03:05some of his makeup. So if you look at some episodes,
- 1:03:09his makeup looks different. It's because Yoku went in and
- 1:03:12re-edited just because people will like it, his makeup looks
- 1:03:14like this. And that like it.
- 1:03:16Exactly, as he the people who read the book said, that's how
- 1:03:20he is described in the book, some sequences were lifted from
- 1:03:24a videogame, folks, online hated the drama and we're really,
- 1:03:29really vocal about it. Tried to ruin the drama for
- 1:03:31others. It was the drawing was filmed
- 1:03:34about a year ago and it took a really long time to edit down
- 1:03:39and come to Premiere in debut. It was originally 56 ish
- 1:03:44episodes and was cut down to 40 after the Mandate was put in
- 1:03:47place. So a major complaint for people
- 1:03:50with not just that it was cut down and we had stuff left on
- 1:03:54The Cutting Room floor, but that the pacing was very jerky
- 1:03:58herky-jerky and felt throughout the show, Caitlin, did you feel
- 1:04:02like that was the case for you? Um, overall know, I didn't, I
- 1:04:07thought they did a fairly good job in terms of where to cut
- 1:04:13what to show. I do think You can tell a little
- 1:04:17bit because I did have a couple like unanswered questions by the
- 1:04:22end. You can tell very like in the
- 1:04:24last probably like five to six episodes.
- 1:04:27You can you can definitely tell a lot more compared to the rest
- 1:04:31of it and speaking like a lot of people were saying because what
- 1:04:37I love about some of these dramas out of get really, really
- 1:04:39popular. Is some of the supporting
- 1:04:41characters get as much love as some of the, as the Leads.
- 1:04:46Do so like, some people were mad that the second couple didn't
- 1:04:52get as much scenes as they should.
- 1:04:55I loved the third couple and I was very heartbroken that they
- 1:04:59were not in the third part of this drama.
- 1:05:02Like I was like, heartbroken, but I think it like the the one
- 1:05:06of the controversies was like They should not have cut so much
- 1:05:12of the second couple because, apparently, according to the
- 1:05:15book, there was a lot more scenes explaining and giving
- 1:05:18them more depth. Hmm.
- 1:05:21Honestly, because I kind of hated both of them, I didn't
- 1:05:24really care, but I'm book. I mean speaking to what you guys
- 1:05:28said where it's like, if you can act a role.
- 1:05:31So well that you end up hating that person, it is nothing to do
- 1:05:36with these actors. Acting whatsoever like the fact
- 1:05:39that I was so much hating these two people and honestly, I
- 1:05:43didn't think I would hate, what's his name?
- 1:05:48Jiu-ge? Whoo.
- 1:05:50Like as much like that actor, up to that point was not a bad
- 1:05:54character until the third act. So like the fact that I could
- 1:05:58hate you so much in the last ten episodes just like speak to me.
- 1:06:03How well his acting was, but yeah.
- 1:06:06Oh my God. Okay, so let's pause.
- 1:06:07Here. Because let this is a great
- 1:06:10point that the pacing issues translated also into us getting
- 1:06:15a lot more of the second couple. And the third couple, the
- 1:06:18character that you're referring to is played by Bing.
- 1:06:20Bing way, he plays Shaolin and jiwoo and son.
- 1:06:25You in the, the three eras of the show.
- 1:06:30What did you get? I mean, you hated this character
- 1:06:32by the end, specification. All right, so really quick on
- 1:06:39this guy, this this actor then we I watched him in half, I
- 1:06:44watched half of the show miss the dragon, oh my God, I hated
- 1:06:48that show thought he and I thought him like dang way.
- 1:06:52That guy terrible actor. So when I saw him in the show, I
- 1:06:57was like oh fuck. Here we go again.
- 1:06:58So then I thought he was much improved only in the body life
- 1:07:05stuff. Only an enlightened life was, I
- 1:07:07like, oh, he's really passable as an actor.
- 1:07:11The rest of the show, I was like, I hate this guy, I don't
- 1:07:14think he's acting very well, I don't think because they tried
- 1:07:17to give him a bit of like, a conflict at the end of the show,
- 1:07:20especially, which was half-baked and possibly a side.
- 1:07:24Effect of them, cutting down the episodes, but yeah.
- 1:07:29I didn't like him. I didn't believe in any of the,
- 1:07:32the romance with him. In the sister, I believe their
- 1:07:38romance, like I could get behind their romance.
- 1:07:41It's just like, okay. So like for me with for me in
- 1:07:46terms of done Ways, last life, and this is not really
- 1:07:50specifically his character but it's the Trope and Sean show
- 1:07:54aware like the good sex sex, like Arts, technically not good,
- 1:08:01like they just like for then this is a Trope across a.
- 1:08:05So I wasn't surprised when this happened but like when a
- 1:08:07controversy happens usually when one of the good guys main
- 1:08:11character like in this one low, you she She is exposed as like
- 1:08:17the big bad guy, they never investigate anything, they
- 1:08:21always just like this is like the one Viewpoint we have.
- 1:08:24We're gonna be like call you a criminal and even usually what
- 1:08:29happens is the person with that Viewpoint is actually the bad
- 1:08:32guy or one of the bad guys. So it drove me nuts that jiwoo
- 1:08:38just was like okay we have this one snippet of this one guy.
- 1:08:43Who actually was kind of bad and always murderous all the time
- 1:08:47claiming that lose you and she's character was this like horrible
- 1:08:52person who murdered everybody and I'm not going to listen to
- 1:08:56anything. Like I'm not and I mean, granted
- 1:08:59they, the writers did try to put him in terms of like a love line
- 1:09:03with by lose character in that third era.
- 1:09:05So he was also doing out of jealousy.
- 1:09:09I think the problem I had with it is just like Here's the past.
- 1:09:13Two characters were not like this whatsoever, he never really
- 1:09:18had that love story connection with by lose character in the
- 1:09:22past eras. So I couldn't really believe him
- 1:09:25having a love connection with by Lou in the third era and the
- 1:09:31fact that they just made him go so bad.
- 1:09:33But then at the end I also was like confused.
- 1:09:36This was one of my questions is like What the heck happened to
- 1:09:40him? At the end?
- 1:09:41Like they like he like he like got took all this evil energy.
- 1:09:45And yes, Lucchese character like took it back from him but like
- 1:09:49probably never showed what happened.
- 1:09:52They never showed him giving punishment for what he did.
- 1:09:55They never showed actually like if he ever like ruled afterward,
- 1:09:59like nothing. So that was like, one of my
- 1:10:01things was like okay, well this is to obviously a pacing thing.
- 1:10:04They probably cut the scenes, whatever, but we never really
- 1:10:07even got a Satisfying ending for that character because he did
- 1:10:11technically, like become an version of a Devil Himself for
- 1:10:17jealousy reasons. So, and then again, maybe it was
- 1:10:21just because due to the cutting and having to get down the 40
- 1:10:24episodes, though, they never really got a satisfying ending
- 1:10:26with him. But yeah, I think it was just
- 1:10:29spoke to the Trope and of a Trope that we usually see in
- 1:10:32Chandra where the good s not really always good.
- 1:10:38For me personally, just picking up on Kate.
- 1:10:41What Kaitlyn is saying. I actually like that Trope of
- 1:10:45the good sect, isn't a good sector tool, because it kind of
- 1:10:49shows the good isn't necessarily good and, you know, heaven isn't
- 1:10:53necessarily good and demons aren't necessarily bad.
- 1:10:57So I there's, you know, I always kind of enjoy that.
- 1:11:00And that is very, very common insurances.
- 1:11:03I mean, some of the worst people in, you know, drama and she
- 1:11:06answers that I've met there from the heavenly.
- 1:11:08Well, and, you know, they're despicable but that they're
- 1:11:12supposed to be the good ones, you know, but that doesn't
- 1:11:14necessarily mean they are. And I think that when it comes
- 1:11:19to the, you know, when you come to the end of the drama and the
- 1:11:22only all of the gods have been eradicated, they gave themselves
- 1:11:26up to seal. You know, the devil Garden in
- 1:11:30the bore a life. We saw that in the brewery life
- 1:11:32and the only person in 10,000 years who has managed to become
- 1:11:37a true God, And be elevated to that.
- 1:11:40Status is Lee, soo soo sheet. He is the only person and that
- 1:11:44just shows you how, you know, difficult, it is to get to the
- 1:11:48position where you do get that power.
- 1:11:51But in terms of like what we were saying about, you know,
- 1:11:55Tanguay and I have, you know, like if you've heard by
- 1:12:00episodes, you know, I have problems with this couple and
- 1:12:05I'm right sweet. To me whether it's a pacing
- 1:12:10problem, a story problem, I haven't been able to figure it
- 1:12:13out but people were complaining. Oh, they have so much.
- 1:12:17They don't really have any screen time and funnily enough.
- 1:12:20If you went into mdl right at the beginning of this, you know,
- 1:12:24when this drama was airing, those two characters they were
- 1:12:27listed as main characters. If you go into mdl right now,
- 1:12:31they are listed as support roles which is what they should have
- 1:12:34been right from the beginning. They are not, they are support.
- 1:12:38Right? And people were complaining.
- 1:12:40Oh, they have too little time and I'm like her, don't you
- 1:12:43think they're gonna cut out? Do you think they're gonna cut
- 1:12:45out luo Yin Shi? And by Lu, that's their money
- 1:12:47bills. Like they're not gonna take away
- 1:12:51from their sins and actually they cut a bunch of by Lou
- 1:12:55scenes on her own that actually describes a lot of what she's
- 1:12:58doing and a lot of what she's thinking, they cut a bunch of
- 1:13:01those out, but they're not going to cut out your main couple that
- 1:13:04tells you the story like that's what people are mainly going.
- 1:13:08Going in for. So I have a problem with this
- 1:13:12feet with this actress, you know, with Chen, dueling, I for
- 1:13:17me, right? I don't understand her point in
- 1:13:21this drug like shit. First of all, first of all,
- 1:13:25she's a crybaby that like, literally sits there and waits
- 1:13:28for a man to do everything for her, that to me, is one of the
- 1:13:32worst things you can do to a female character in a drama,
- 1:13:35like, I don't, you know, understand why.
- 1:13:38There's a need in the 21st century to still be doing
- 1:13:41characters like that. She I mean there was characters
- 1:13:45that were a lot weaker than her and they would they would still
- 1:13:49stand up. Now the thing that I said when
- 1:13:52people were like, oh but you know they cut out a bunch of
- 1:13:56scenes and I was like the third couple had even less screen time
- 1:14:00and their chemistry sizzled on screen.
- 1:14:02So don't tell me it's like an issue with having, you know,
- 1:14:07less time on screen. I mean, because you can make it
- 1:14:10happen. You just have to, like, bring
- 1:14:11that to the table, and I think this is where my problem is
- 1:14:15coming from. I would have to watch these two,
- 1:14:18again, in something else to truly figure out.
- 1:14:20If it's a case of them having less screen or whatever it may
- 1:14:25be, or if it's a problem that these two actors just in Mash
- 1:14:28very well together on screen, or if it's a writing problem.
- 1:14:31But to me that couple in general just really didn't work.
- 1:14:35I wasn't, you know, grabbed by her performance.
- 1:14:38Screen. So yeah.
- 1:14:40Okay, so for me I agree with both of you guys in a sense
- 1:14:43because I don't think that thing way was doing a good job acting.
- 1:14:47I don't think that tend to Lange was also doing a good job
- 1:14:51acting. I don't think that they had
- 1:14:52great chemistry as a couple as a third couple so to speak.
- 1:14:56I thought that When you talk about Shaolin like, that's a
- 1:15:01very righteous character. And no I don't think that the
- 1:15:05Nuance that they kind of sort of wanted for that character worked
- 1:15:09necessarily because ultimately he was like a one-note dude,
- 1:15:13like just a general good guy. And then do you again, they
- 1:15:17tried to make him like one note, but it doesn't work because he
- 1:15:22sort of out of jealousy or just What's the word pride?
- 1:15:27He wants to win and he want the Heats.
- 1:15:30Not necessarily like we have to save the world.
- 1:15:33It's a little more for selfish reasons.
- 1:15:35That he decides to engage in the demon arts or whatever and
- 1:15:40becomes like semi demon wish at the end of the show.
- 1:15:46So again, like each each of his personas, like I have issues
- 1:15:50with four Yapping, Chang the sister.
- 1:15:56I agree to a to a certain point that I don't like how she was
- 1:16:01sort of written or played as a victim, right?
- 1:16:05And as a, as a person who is very antagonistic toward our
- 1:16:10main couple and toward ye Shi, woo, it was very frustrated to
- 1:16:16see like an evil character claim, victimhood, all the time,
- 1:16:20what I thought was smart about her character as the sisters,
- 1:16:25especially It was that she was weaponizing like her femininity
- 1:16:32a lot. So she was being very
- 1:16:34manipulative and being like all I do is depend on you and like
- 1:16:39I'm a woman and I can't do this and I can't do that and it's
- 1:16:41like of course. She's right in a sense like for
- 1:16:46sure in this in this world. Yes, she has way less agency but
- 1:16:51at the same time she is very manipulative and she is Um,
- 1:16:57moving puzzle pieces around. She's playing chess with the
- 1:17:00other characters and they have no idea.
- 1:17:01She's a player. So at the same time I also feel
- 1:17:05like we have to give her a little more credit for
- 1:17:07weaponizing, her femininity. The frustrating thing about her
- 1:17:12character is that she's a fucking bitch for 99% of the
- 1:17:16show. So nobody's gonna like a
- 1:17:19character like that, who is a logically evil right for us.
- 1:17:26It doesn't quite make sense for her to be so antagonistic and so
- 1:17:29evil. And so irrational.
- 1:17:31Especially I felt like embody life and in the preceding
- 1:17:36episodes after they get out of the dream.
- 1:17:39You're like, well why like there's no reason.
- 1:17:42Yes, she has like this inferiority complex.
- 1:17:44Yes, she has been through some mistreatment within the family
- 1:17:48because she's not the favorite daughter but at the same time
- 1:17:51she brings it on herself later on in the show and she refuses
- 1:17:54to give up the love thread. She like is not sorry for
- 1:17:57anything that she's done. She doesn't, she doesn't repent
- 1:18:01at any point. So there's no reason for us to
- 1:18:03sort of like get behind her as a character.
- 1:18:06Again, the chemistry between the both of them zilch, what I will
- 1:18:11say is that in the final few episodes where she is now back
- 1:18:16to herself as moan? You like the sister of the one
- 1:18:23of the henge women to yang. See ya Yin singing sister.
- 1:18:28I was laughing my ass off when they revealed that she was like
- 1:18:31in the umbrella the whole time and like she just regenerated
- 1:18:36now, she's back. Of course, of course, she's back
- 1:18:42as an actual demon and she had been going through trials, and
- 1:18:47all of this stuff they tried to give her an arc in the last few
- 1:18:50episodes. And I'm curious if you thought
- 1:18:52that, that worked with how she was like, Like should I be evil?
- 1:18:58I can't let go of like my human realm experiences and this list
- 1:19:02love or Twisted love that I had with Shaolin and stuff like
- 1:19:07that. I don't know.
- 1:19:08I don't think it worked at all. I think like the problem is is
- 1:19:12at that point, you hated her so much.
- 1:19:15Like you didn't want that Redemptive Arc be like, you
- 1:19:18didn't believe in even if and honestly I don't think it was a
- 1:19:21terms of cutting for that character like you hated her so
- 1:19:25much by then. Like you didn't believe anything
- 1:19:28she said or anything. She was thinking because she was
- 1:19:33so manipulative up to that point.
- 1:19:36I don't think I don't think. I don't think it was needed.
- 1:19:41I don't think it would have been believable even if they did have
- 1:19:4456 episodes to do it. I yeah, I don't.
- 1:19:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:19:50Did you have thoughts Liliana about this character?
- 1:19:53And so I have so many this character, I think the problem
- 1:19:59for me is that even if I really, really hate a character, I can
- 1:20:03appreciate the acting if that makes sense.
- 1:20:06So if a, you know, an actor or an actress can make me
- 1:20:11absolutely hate them and, you know, feel very strong feelings
- 1:20:15towards them, then they did a pretty good job.
- 1:20:19But for this one, I just can't, you know, I don't know.
- 1:20:23I feel like the actress didn't, you know, I don't even know how
- 1:20:27to explain it, but she just didn't grab me.
- 1:20:29Like, any time, she's on screen. I'm just like, you know, roll my
- 1:20:33eyes, kind of thing. I'm like, oh here she comes
- 1:20:35again, that sort of thing, if that makes sense.
- 1:20:39So yeah, I think I character was, she may have suffered from,
- 1:20:46you know, in terms of whatever they had to cut out for her, we
- 1:20:51will never know because we don't have access to, you know, a
- 1:20:54full, you know, drama with all the episodes and uncut version
- 1:21:00so to speak. So we will never know whether
- 1:21:03this is for me. Anyways, this is what I said in
- 1:21:06like my episode is, I will never know if it's an actress thing or
- 1:21:10if it's a drama thing for this drama, specifically.
- 1:21:13Like I who knows, it might be that later on.
- 1:21:16I might watch something that she's in and We really enjoy her
- 1:21:20but, you know, I don't know. I think if they wanted to do a
- 1:21:24Redemption Arc for her. There was a really, really,
- 1:21:29really good chance for her to do that after the bore a life.
- 1:21:32I mean, she experienced that tragedy like she knew like, you
- 1:21:39know, the outcome, why are you repeating the same mistakes?
- 1:21:42Again, it's going to get, you know, where it's going to get
- 1:21:44you absolutely nowhere and like, for Shaolin it was the exact
- 1:21:48same thing like Like in the first instance where I get it
- 1:21:52that he's like he had this, you know, filial pity towards his
- 1:21:56father but it's like dude you need to look and see that your
- 1:22:00dad as an emperor is destroying the country.
- 1:22:04Like he is greedy for power and even then he's still obeys his
- 1:22:08father when he could truly at that point gone.
- 1:22:11Okay. I you know can take Jin is like
- 1:22:14he could have just observed and seen that Tans hygiene was the
- 1:22:18better choice. The better a and he could have
- 1:22:20been like, okay, just like the general like, Lisa soon, at
- 1:22:25least so you, she worries brother.
- 1:22:26Yeah, he laid his weapons down because he knew that the people
- 1:22:31were more important than his pride and that's what I don't
- 1:22:36like about shaolin's character is that he's too righteous.
- 1:22:39But by being too righteous, he actually ends up doing the wrong
- 1:22:43thing by his people. So it shows that he was never
- 1:22:47meant to be a leader. Like that is not what a leader.
- 1:22:49They should do a leader, should look around and like, look at
- 1:22:52what's best for his people and he decided that wasn't the case.
- 1:22:56Like he wanted to fight right to the end.
- 1:22:58So and it's like at that point and you come up and he does the
- 1:23:03same mistakes again. And you'll like, this is why I
- 1:23:06Can't Get Behind these characters is because you can't
- 1:23:10keep repeating the same mistakes and like, keep hitting your head
- 1:23:13against the wall and it's not going to give you a new outcome.
- 1:23:16And I think for you being Chung Any more new later on.
- 1:23:21She knows everything. Like she knows her past life.
- 1:23:25So for her, it's even more frustrating because she's been
- 1:23:28through this three times at this point and it's like, what what
- 1:23:32why is this not getting through? Like this is not going to get
- 1:23:36you anywhere. You know, Shaolin.
- 1:23:39I can give him like a little bit of discredit because he doesn't
- 1:23:42remember those past lives like but you know, I that was my
- 1:23:46problem with their characters. It was the fact that That they
- 1:23:50kept flirting. Exactly.
- 1:23:52They didn't learn. And there was no development
- 1:23:54there and I really don't like, when there's not enough
- 1:23:58development in a character or no development at all, which is the
- 1:24:01case for both of these. So, yeah, that was my overall
- 1:24:05problem with both of these characters.
- 1:24:07I think, when you add something, I will say to, like, in terms of
- 1:24:11done ways character like, Which end do language was with Manu
- 1:24:16with the with the last life like we were saying, they were trying
- 1:24:19to give her a Redemptive Arc. She was kind of sorry for what
- 1:24:23she was done. Like had done WID Dem way even
- 1:24:27with jiewu like we were talking about how like he still went
- 1:24:30with his father Shaolin also like still was like, okay, my
- 1:24:36father is making us go to war. We're gonna lose.
- 1:24:39I'm still going to take my people in and whatever.
- 1:24:43Like I can't disagree with him, he still did that in jiwoo in
- 1:24:47the terms of a different way, like he absorbed the evil people
- 1:24:51like evil, essence of that energy energy.
- 1:24:55He still took his people to the abyss like, I think he was worse
- 1:25:02in the third era than Mo new was because he especially didn't
- 1:25:08learn from any of that. Like and then granted, yeah, he
- 1:25:11didn't remember anything but Like he watched it like they
- 1:25:15went by Lou showed. Yeah they got the Supercar.
- 1:25:18Yeah they got the Supercut like it shows to his character on
- 1:25:24like there was never going to be development for him.
- 1:25:28He was always going to do what he wanted to do to get whether
- 1:25:35that was to be perceived as a righteous leader to like he was
- 1:25:38a god at that point and he still took his people in and became
- 1:25:44the devil God. In the in his own way to win.
- 1:25:49Like he was never going to get that.
- 1:25:51So I found that quite interesting.
- 1:25:52Even in the third life, he made those choices.
- 1:25:55Even if he did get the super cut and of his like God's part of
- 1:26:00this spark notes of that and didn't learn from at all.
- 1:26:04So I found that quite interesting.
- 1:26:06Whereas he still made those actions.
- 1:26:08Granted they were a little different than following his
- 1:26:11King crazy King father. But Yeah, Mmm.
- 1:26:15Yeah Liliana. Yeah, I will say though, like
- 1:26:20seeing something happen and actually experiencing it might
- 1:26:23be different. I would say but also none of
- 1:26:27them at that point. They you just mentioned you
- 1:26:31know. He's a got there like Immortals
- 1:26:33at that point they're not like Gods.
- 1:26:35I wouldn't you know because the only gods they have.
- 1:26:38They're all dead and gone. I like accessories and are full
- 1:26:41of God's will God at the beginning.
- 1:26:43Intro sequence. He says young Immortal.
- 1:26:46Yeah, well suicide yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:50Because they're like, I think in Sharjah it's a little bit it can
- 1:26:54get a little bit Lost in Translation, in terms of like,
- 1:26:57who was who, and what is what, but none of them are like, you
- 1:27:01know, God's there Immortals. The only one that is, God would
- 1:27:05be the devil God because he was created out of something.
- 1:27:09And then obviously, you had like Ming ways story, they were the
- 1:27:13Bullets, but they're all, you know, dead and then by the end,
- 1:27:17the only one that can be referred to as a God would be
- 1:27:22Lee su su there even like when their address each other, they
- 1:27:25address each other as Immortal or, you know, this or that.
- 1:27:28So, but I think again, like he was saying he never learns, they
- 1:27:33don't learn. And that is my main problem with
- 1:27:36these two characters, I think it's very problem, not
- 1:27:39problematic, but it's frustrating.
- 1:27:41When you see characters were Turn to bad decisions but also
- 1:27:46any time a character has goes on some sort of like suicide
- 1:27:50mission. You know, it's not going to end
- 1:27:51well. You know, they can choose a
- 1:27:53different path and in the, you know, what a life it was Shaolin
- 1:27:58didn't need to abide by his father's commands.
- 1:28:01His father was a fucking lunatic and he was prideful and was a
- 1:28:06bad leader and all this stuff and he still knew all this and
- 1:28:08still want on his suicide Miss admission as you in the final
- 1:28:12life again. He knows that it's a failed
- 1:28:15Mission. They can't really do much damage
- 1:28:17to the devil God and he makes a bad decision to absorb all that
- 1:28:22energy and again goes on the sort of suicide mission.
- 1:28:25And to me the reasons for a suicide mission, the intention
- 1:28:29behind it is always more intention more important than.
- 1:28:33Oh they're just going to do this drastic thing right?
- 1:28:36For the sake of the plot for an example I really it's very
- 1:28:40heartbreaking to me to see like the suicide mission in Lord of
- 1:28:44the Rings with the Gondor family, like the Stuart family
- 1:28:48with its boromir's brother. I forget his name here faramir,
- 1:28:54thank you so much. I'm a huge level TR fan and I'm
- 1:28:56here I am forgetting para me. So faramir suicide mission which
- 1:28:59stems from him feeling unloved by his father right?
- 1:29:05You feel like that is you feel like it's obviously he knows
- 1:29:08it's a bad decision but he's also looking to just take
- 1:29:12himself out of the equation because Of all of these
- 1:29:15emotional scars and the way that his father treats him, he's just
- 1:29:19feels like he's better off being out of the picture.
- 1:29:22So for that suicide mission, I'm like okay this is like a really
- 1:29:25juicy reason to just take yourself off the plane board and
- 1:29:30for the character Shaolin jiwoo Sanju, whatever, all of these
- 1:29:37iterations of him. You're never feeling like
- 1:29:40heartbroken that he's making this decision right?
- 1:29:43You're never feeling this is warranted in some Twisted way.
- 1:29:48It's so that's what's annoying to me about that character,
- 1:29:51going back to. And I think we should wrap this
- 1:29:53discussion of, of these two characters.
- 1:29:55I guess we had a lot to say about these these two, but for
- 1:30:00ten dueling's, yapping, Chong and money, or what however you
- 1:30:04pronounce her name in the final iteration, I don't like how they
- 1:30:08just sort of throw at you. And again, this might be the
- 1:30:10pacing thing. This might be the Cutting Room
- 1:30:12floor, tom. But these sort of she comes back
- 1:30:15to life as ammonia. And she's restored to her Baron
- 1:30:21Abyss evil Immortal self. She ID eights this plan to get
- 1:30:25the devil fetus by using his beloved Susu against them.
- 1:30:29They're like, she's like use his love for sousou, to get him on
- 1:30:33your side and get him, coerce him into being the devil.
- 1:30:36God fine. Then she fucks off to the Mortal
- 1:30:39realm to open a silk shop and live a quiet life.
- 1:30:43It's just like doesn't make sense in the grand scheme of
- 1:30:47like, okay, so she was evil a sucking going a second ago and
- 1:30:49now she's giving it all up for. What?
- 1:30:52Exactly and it doesn't it doesn't make any sense in it for
- 1:30:56her character and the way that she's been throughout the show
- 1:31:01then she suddenly has like these deep meaningful connection
- 1:31:04feelings with Shaolin. Who is now Jew?
- 1:31:07And now she at least genuinely values his presence and So what
- 1:31:14gives is she evil or not? She confronts her, white-haired
- 1:31:18sister see. See see seeing seeing?
- 1:31:22Yeah. And it's like, why are you?
- 1:31:24Why are you supporting the devil?
- 1:31:26God, why do you are? Why are you still on his side?
- 1:31:29You she's talking about like reciprocity, like you're not
- 1:31:32getting out of anything out of this relationship with the
- 1:31:35devil. God, it's all one-sided.
- 1:31:37Why are you still on his side and questioning her dedication?
- 1:31:41It like it's very smart, but it's also doesn't mesh with her
- 1:31:48character that we've seen for, like, 30 35 episodes.
- 1:31:53So that's what's really frustrating to me is that we get
- 1:31:56all this growth without seeing the journey, you know what I'm
- 1:32:00saying? Yeah, I feel like that's
- 1:32:04probably where the cutting. Yeah.
- 1:32:06Kind of affected their story quite a bit.
- 1:32:10So I think we've talked enough about the that couple.
- 1:32:17Did you guys want to talk about this second couples, which
- 1:32:20seemed to work for everybody? Okay, let's talk about them for
- 1:32:22a few minutes. So what are their names?
- 1:32:26It's p and Ron. And seeing seeing you Ching?
- 1:32:30Hua qian gu yeah. Uuh in your Chemistry.
- 1:32:34Hmm. Okay.
- 1:32:35And say, do you guys want to speak on it?
- 1:32:38What were your like favorite? I am and stuff.
- 1:32:39I love this couple. I was I was so into this couple
- 1:32:43and I love them so much. I love the fact like even if
- 1:32:48they were third couple As and you spoke on this Liliana is
- 1:32:53like their chemistry was just so good and the like they had it's
- 1:32:59for me like they seem to have like a natural progression to
- 1:33:04their relationship. It wasn't like oh you are the
- 1:33:07third couple like King you like really didn't know how to feel
- 1:33:13about her at first. Like you could tell he was
- 1:33:15attracted to her, but she knew she was a demon.
- 1:33:19He knew like he was The righteous General.
- 1:33:22It was never going to work. Like he was trying to not be in
- 1:33:27a relationship but he obviously was attracted to her.
- 1:33:31She had a past of like being in a relationship with a general
- 1:33:35that obviously didn't work out. So she was also trying not to be
- 1:33:39in the relationship but also was very flirty because that was a
- 1:33:42demon personality. But I just love the progress in
- 1:33:46of their relationship and just how they Came to realize, they
- 1:33:51did have feelings for each other and did enjoy their company, and
- 1:33:55was generally happy to be together.
- 1:34:00And then, of course, we had their tragic ending, which was
- 1:34:04just so tragic. Like, it was beautiful.
- 1:34:08It was a beautifully shot scene, and it was just so tragically
- 1:34:12beautiful. But like, the more tragic park
- 1:34:14for me was is like we didn't get them in the third era.
- 1:34:18We got him, we got Got him. And even him was very, I had
- 1:34:22some questions about his ending to because it was like,
- 1:34:25obviously, she dies and he absorbs her power to stay alive.
- 1:34:33They never explained. Like, because you see him in the
- 1:34:36third era, like, saving his City with his powers and his hair
- 1:34:40turning white. They never explained that they
- 1:34:43never explained what he actually was, they never late.
- 1:34:46And I feel like that probably was a cutting thing.
- 1:34:49Again, they probably Shoot some type of explanation with that
- 1:34:52but like I really because I love this couple so much, I really
- 1:34:56wanted to see them at least have one special seen or him at least
- 1:35:00like talking to her tombstone or something in the third era and
- 1:35:06we didn't get any of that. She kind of just was like God.
- 1:35:10So yeah. So I was going to say we're
- 1:35:15actually really lucky of what we got with this couple because if
- 1:35:20you are To refer to the book, our little fox dies, very, very
- 1:35:25quickly. She you know, when they first
- 1:35:29find her character and it's just after like the heat she's in the
- 1:35:33bedroom with him and then turn taejin and sousou like basically
- 1:35:39chase after her and like to try and track her down.
- 1:35:43She dies in that Pursuit like she doesn't get saved in the
- 1:35:46book she dies. So this couple that we got
- 1:35:50Welcome. It's a creation for the for the
- 1:35:53show. Yeah.
- 1:35:53It's it's a drama creation. It isn't, you know something
- 1:35:57that comes from the book. So I would say we're really,
- 1:36:01really lucky of what we got from them and I loved this couple, I
- 1:36:07loved. And the thing is it isn't just
- 1:36:10the this couple in general it's like Pian run.
- 1:36:14I loved her character. Her relationship with times,
- 1:36:17hygiene like that back and forth, banter that they Have
- 1:36:20great. I loved it.
- 1:36:22I loved her relationship with Lee.
- 1:36:24Suh Suh like the bond that they kind of had.
- 1:36:27And that like, you know, friendship, it's kind of like
- 1:36:30the sister that you big chunk never was too, you know, Sue
- 1:36:34suit. So I feel like that's why her
- 1:36:37character just worked so well. But also this this actress just
- 1:36:42looked stunning, like this. There's something about like
- 1:36:46again her face but like she is so beautiful.
- 1:36:50And like this bright red, you know, dress that she wears.
- 1:36:55I just, I absolutely loved her character like the Mischief that
- 1:36:58she kind of carries with her all the time because that's that's
- 1:37:02something that, you know, the nine-tailed fox, kind of entails
- 1:37:05is like kind of like that mischief and you can see that in
- 1:37:08her character. But overall I'm just kind of
- 1:37:12like really, really glad that she, you know, got to stay on
- 1:37:17for how long she did. Because that's not how the book.
- 1:37:20Goes down. But also for, for the for or I'm
- 1:37:26forgetting his name year Ching, you basically, for him, how I
- 1:37:31understood those scenes, was that he actually absorbed her
- 1:37:35Essence? Yes.
- 1:37:36Which allows him to live on? Just like she would, she is kind
- 1:37:42of like an immortal because she's, you know, nine tailed
- 1:37:44fox. It's her, you know she had
- 1:37:46cultivated enough to be that way.
- 1:37:48She passed all of On to him, which means he will be able to
- 1:37:52live on and not only use her powers, but use her ability like
- 1:37:56her immortality to stay alive. Like, that's how I say that
- 1:38:00scene. So basically, she gave
- 1:38:02everything she had to him, so he could live on.
- 1:38:06You don't think that was him reincarnated as a fox.
- 1:38:10It was him losing her Fox acid. Yeah.
- 1:38:13To, I think that was City or whatever because it's been 500
- 1:38:17years. Of course, he's probably got
- 1:38:18some sort of high. Ian or Lord of a city or
- 1:38:21something and that's probably why.
- 1:38:23Hey, that was the entire time he ruled because then they would
- 1:38:27ya. So it was the same guy for 500
- 1:38:30years but that's also tragic ending for him as well because
- 1:38:34he like they had that whole conversation, we're like she
- 1:38:39wanted to like he was like, I only am going to live for like
- 1:38:43100 years. Like, you have to move on
- 1:38:45without me type thing and now he has to live without Her which
- 1:38:50was just like, oh my gosh, she says who says you can't.
- 1:38:53Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:38:56The thing for me though, I think this is why in this case, so
- 1:39:02right, if we take it right down to just the human realm, right?
- 1:39:07So you've got to be the leader of the human realm.
- 1:39:10You whole, you have eating, you, you have Shaolin and you have
- 1:39:14tan taejun out of those. Three ultimately, the best
- 1:39:18choice was year, teaching you. Because he was ready to put his
- 1:39:21people above everything else and I feel like, that's why can't I
- 1:39:26Jin? Was like he turns ijen says
- 1:39:30align like he says yeah, you know Lee sued, lot of not easily
- 1:39:34sukkahs at that point. He knows that as ye Shi Wu Yu
- 1:39:37Shi, woo, love this world. So I will try to do the same and
- 1:39:40it kind of like he is, okay, leaving all of that to like, to
- 1:39:46her brother because he knows her brother will take care of it.
- 1:39:49Like his The will pull himself up and he will do that and he is
- 1:39:54probably the only capable person of doing so out of the
- 1:39:58characters that were available you know at that point in time
- 1:40:02so I think the mask not only like hides who he is because
- 1:40:07he's a fair steady leader but it also kind of like honest and say
- 1:40:12Jin and his like background that's what they explained it as
- 1:40:15is. It's an honoring to turn taejin
- 1:40:18so I you know too. Me.
- 1:40:20I feel like his character was the best place character to rule
- 1:40:24the human realm and they even said so like the human realm
- 1:40:27kept at peace for years and years and years and it shows
- 1:40:31through his leadership. Well yeah and then to learn like
- 1:40:34when we Sue Sue learned that like she thought that that tan
- 1:40:42Tae Jin had died and had like ruled for this amount of time
- 1:40:46and had died like before knowing that he was in that River for so
- 1:40:50long. Long.
- 1:40:52And to know later that, that was Can you can continue the brother
- 1:41:00the entire time because it wore the mask.
- 1:41:02Like, no one knew that wasn't on Tae Jin.
- 1:41:05So like to know that later on and to learn that just proves
- 1:41:10your point even more Liliana. I want I need, I need this
- 1:41:16couple to be a lead in a drama. Like I need them to think, they
- 1:41:20don't really need that. Like, I literally, you know, how
- 1:41:22they do those bizarre. Strobe photo shoots of, like,
- 1:41:25all the popular people in popular dramas they had the I Am
- 1:41:30Bazaar shoot together. Oh my God, I love is so sexy.
- 1:41:35I need them together. Like if they put them together
- 1:41:38in a drama him and I'm like I'm going to be on that like white
- 1:41:40on rice. Like why?
- 1:41:43Not. I see the rows SE left and that
