- 0:33[SPEAKER_04]: How was media day for you?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_04]: Considering it was a lot of Hey John, I'm sitting in this video.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: Hey John, I'm sitting in this video.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_04]: Hey John, we talked to 70 people.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_04]: Here you go.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_04]: Most of you.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: That was good man my YouTube channel did some good good work on Monday and I even got reprimanded by one of the admins on the YouTube groups.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying please next time this happens please don't post 40 videos.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: I was like it's only 36.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: There's only 3.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, 36.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: They just want like a link to my YouTube channel and I'm like you got it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_04]: You got it.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: have at that link, John Hoover Media.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_04]: If you missed any of the extravagance on Monday, which will break down here, also at Carson Field on hand, he was with us in Norman Carson, how did you?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's a weird thing.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_04]: Springball, end of the month, media day was Monday.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like ready to go when we got to sit and wait through spring break.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's a little bit different.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: But it was cool to be out there meet some of the new faces.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: This was my first go around at Spring Media Day.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_03]: So I enjoyed it.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_03]: It was a lot of fun.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_03]: And like you said that two week gap, don't worry.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: We have like who said 36 different videos that we're going to be writing about over the next couple of weeks.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: We've got you covered.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: No wool and content.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be fun though.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be it's going to be fall ball before we know it.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: It will be for sure.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_04]: And if you're watching on YouTube right now, you're going that other box, saying that a pair is usual, it's just on top of the head instead of in the beer, no Ryan Abert today.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_04]: So our designated survivor gets to leave the bunker, Brady, tramp them, welcome to the pod.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_04]: How are you, my friend?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's very nice to get out of the bunker and to see the light.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's very nice.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm enjoying myself, but yeah, shout out to Ryan Abert and hopefully I do a good enough job.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_04]: Unfortunately, much like with a lot of local homens in their tornado shelters, they have to go in there Be like how many spiders took over this that we did not do a good job of spraying the bunker So I just please don't see what's pretty for those spider bites if they're not radioactive.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know what else to tell you
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: I did plenty of that yesterday evening.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: We had some tornado sirens go off around, uh, I live around Mustang.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: And there was a bunch of peaking my head down there and going like, as I hate spiders.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, do we need to vacuum this first?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's a tornado.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: Fortunately, there was nothing bad, but it's like, ah, priorities.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: Take care of the spiders first.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's good news for you.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure that Jessica would be like, I'll get the spiders out of there for me.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'd just be like burn the thing down.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't did.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: She did and she cared me down there.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was perfect.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: She's great.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Do we have any spider experts out in the audience today that could explain to me how there was a, it's like middle of March and there was a spider in my garage that was three inches wide.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: How, where?
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they died every year.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they like came out really small and then grew as they eat.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: What is that thing doing at living in my garage?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's where I was going to come on.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: John, you got to move, you got to move.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, you just like have a bottle of wind decks on it.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was the closest thing.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to clean you to death.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: That's not my big back Greek wedding that we use wind decks for everything anyway.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_04]: Moving on to other things.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_04]: We're not going to go chronologically through media dates.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_04]: I want to start with Brent Venables and Jim now You then we'll get to the assistants and all the players, but it was an extravaganza.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_04]: If there was a new face in the program Outside of maybe some of the front office people whether it be Molly new recruiting coordinator who certainly has had herself a week or two as the future freaks weekend popped off We'll get to that all here in a little bit, but
- 3:58[SPEAKER_04]: uh, let's start with uh, Brent Vittables of Jim nagging work our way back for Brent Vittables.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: It was a if you've watched enough Brent Vittables spring pressers.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: He kind of treats the opening one of spring as like a state of the program.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_04]: Let me catch you up on everything that I think has happened and is important from the time that we last spoke up until now and ran through a lot of stats or turning production, all that stuff.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_04]: But I think the biggest thing that came from the Brent Vittables press conference, John, is
- 4:25[SPEAKER_04]: he is kind of laid out what he believes the biggest challenge for this Oklahoma team will be which is last year and we talked about it the drop-off or lack of drop-off and a lot of positions from the guys that were the name starters to the twos that was a huge strength especially the defense being able to build some depth-long the offensive line and not get so many guys injured that was something that they were striving toward and
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: He was just pretty frank.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_04]: They lost a lot of their frontline guys defensively or the the number two guys technically defensively and the big challenge for this team is going to be raised the floor raise the average to be as close to the top as possible Cuz he spoke for so long did not get a chance to get some questions, but I do wonder
- 5:06[SPEAKER_04]: When you look at John having no post spring transfer portal window, I know that everyone it's going to every coach across the country is going to say we do everything the same, every day, yada, yada, yada, yada.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_04]: But human nature is, hey, if John's getting more reps than me this spring, I might check out the last two weeks and start wondering, am I going to be portal hoppin stuff like that right now with every program across the country the only way through is
- 5:32[SPEAKER_04]: and kind of some ways how big do you think that's going to be for Oklahoma if that's kind of the state of goal is to try to bring that up where no one that they can coach their butts off all spring long and outside of some like weird people unenrolling, which I'm sure will happen across the country, but for the most part you're not going to have your roster get pillaged and you can really coach those two's and three's and try to really raise the talent level the entire team.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and improve the culture of your program, I think, it's going to be huge for Oklahoma, it's going to be huge for a lot of programs around the country.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of programs who don't just cycle in process for star and five star recruits like, you know, they're, you know, crackers in the vending machine.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: These are guys who have a future in college football.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: These are a lot of guys, a lot of prospects who have a bright future in college football.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you want to be able to get your kind of talents into them a little bit, sync your, you know, sync your teeth into them, get your resources and allow them, you know, your new recruiting coordinator, your GM who's been on the job for a year, you want to be able to expose all, expose these guys to all aspects of your program.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, I mean, correct me if I'm not wrong, guys.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think the biggest thing for Venables, where he's at in his coaching career, where he's at with the program right now, is going to be something that he's talked about a lot and that is, how do we handle success, okay?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: So he's coming off a 10 win season, 10 to three hosting a college football playoff game.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Currently has the class that they're working on is by far currently ranked number one in the country.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Recruiting class 2027.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of feeling himself a little bit.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think and I'm not saying in a cocky way He's just kind of like experiencing some success stacked on top of success Which is something that we've not seen from Brent so if this season, you know, and the momentum continues in that direction He certainly has you know every right to be proud of that and to build on that and to build on that and to
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: exploit that with recruiting and with the transfer portal guy.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: So that's something though that I want to see how he does as it goes.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: How does he handle his own success?
- 7:40[SPEAKER_04]: And I thought, of course, that was another kind of, I don't know, subplot might be putting it too strong of way to label that.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_04]: But last year this time, Brent Vendels had had a pretty good answer.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_04]: I thought when he was asked about the pressure of being on the hot seat and he's like, listen, man, my background, where I come from, nothing's given.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_04]: I got to work my butt off every day.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_04]: but he did have a he was certainly happier and he was a much more relaxed when just asked whether it be a relationship with Jim naggy just because you've had a year to build it you've been through a couple you've been through a signing day now a portal cycle even preventables was able to smile and be like yeah man things feel a lot better right now coming off of 10 winces and be able to build off you it's not the end of the season you wanted but at least you're not staring down six and seven ago okay now now we're in that conversation of going from good to great as opposed to everyone wondering if I'm even fit to be the
- 8:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I thought it was a good balance more than anything.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_03]: I know going back to August when we had that fall media day press conference.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: We all agreed, okay, for it.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_03]: Venables is on edge, like, there is a lot at stake.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they have to achieve this year for him to be back.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: And they did that, but also I liked that there was this sense of still this professionalism, this
- 8:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we had a good season last year, but we need to be better than that from Brent Venables's perspective, knowing the history of this program, knowing that getting to the playoff isn't the end goal.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's making a run and eventually getting to the spot of winning the national championship.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_03]: I felt like that fire was still there.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: shown by his, I don't know, 20 minute introductory state member for fielding questions.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_03]: It really was detailed in how a lot of the things have gone in the off season.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was just a really good kind of a good gauge of where the programs at heading into springball.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_04]: And it seems that another thing too, if we're going
- 9:25[SPEAKER_04]: Number one, it's just raised the level from the two.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_04]: The ones, all that stuff, it seems like Brady, the second thing that Brett Venables is really honed in on and whether you go all the way back to his interview on the Oklahoma Breakdown podcast on the weekend or kind of his joke of 90% of our rushing productions coming back, that's not a lot of rushing yards, but it is 90% of it.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_04]: It feels like Brett Venables, you wanna get better to everything, we get that, but that has been a major focus.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: This is going to be the big thing for this Oklahoma offense, and you've got to talk to Dealing McCollon and the new running back coach and Jason Whitton, your new tight-end coach with a revamp tight-end group to help that offensive line of blogging.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: Seems like that's going to be something that we're going to be tracking a lot throughout the spring is how do you feel that that aspect of your offense is coming along.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: And it mainly kind of stems from before we even get to the running backs or even get to deal in the color.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: The running game seems to be on paper, the easiest thing for this Oklahoma offense to correct.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it really has nothing to do.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said with the running backs or the new running backs coach, it's the fact that the offensive line stands to be in a much better position going into this year than it has been at least in the previous two seasons.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: So they're going to go in with some moments and some confidence that
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Once, you know, freshman offensive line, Michael Fassouci, Eddie Pierre Louis, and Ryan Fogey will now their experience sophomores.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: You're excited about Jake Michael, possibly coming back from that infection that hinted the final two games of his season last year.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: You're excited about a Marion Harris, the plug-and-play right tackle.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: So the offense line stands to be in a much better position, which, of course, on paper, makes it easier for Xavier Robinson or a Tory Blaylock or whomever it might be to run through those holes that may not have been there last year.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: And if the running game improves, it makes life easier for John Matier, because that's the the entire crux of this soft season is can John Matier make improvements to his game.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in order to do that, like he has to do X, Y, and Z, but you can make it a lot easier if his skill position guy is in a namely a running game to compliment this defensive first program.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: If that makes strides, I mean, Brent talked about it, and that podcast,
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: three-and-a-half yards of carry is pathetic and if you could just improve that to four-and-a-half that would make a world of difference and, you know, interdeline McCull the new running backs coach who has this track record of just developing dudes you've never heard of into NFL draft picks.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: who's who's taking guys that everyone's heard of coming out of high school, I mean, he knows basically all these running backs in this room right now at the University of Oklahoma because he recruited Xavier Robinson.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: He recruited Tory Bullock.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: He recruited Jonathan Hatten when he was at Notre Dame.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: So all these guys are familiar with him.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: They respect the track record and they're all excited about what he brings the table in terms of developing running backs.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: And if that happens, like that's a, that's an accidental marriage.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: That is
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think if the Kansas City Chiefs weren't looking for a new running backs coach, OU would be going into the season with the Marco Murari, which would be fine in terms of everyone seems to like him, but Dilo McCullab brings this track record that everyone is excited about.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I think all this can just accidentally maybe move OU back into a position to return their ground game to probably where it belongs.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's something that and we'll get into this here in a little bit when we start talking about some of the players specifically, but you talk to Jonathan Hatton Jr who we knew that his relationship with Tomarco Murray was a big thing.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_04]: He loved Oklahoma loved Marco Murray and I feel bad for Jonathan Hatton Jr because I think he probably had to say this version of the line about 20 times across 30 minutes of
- 13:01[SPEAKER_04]: I really disappointed that I'm not being coached by Demarco.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: I get it, I'm happy for him, it's a family decision, but also he's like, he didn't say these exact words, but he kind of got to feel like, well, if I couldn't be coached by Demarco, I'm pretty happy for dealing with Call of the Command, because it's someone that he seemed to have a pretty good relationship with as well, and
- 13:18[SPEAKER_04]: I know that, you know, pointing out this, the problem and identifying is supposed to fix it or two different things, but you listen to some of the other stuff that Brent talked about cars in which it's just simply, hey, we were efficient.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_04]: As efficient as it gets, once we got to the red zone, we didn't get there enough.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: We actually were terrible at getting to the red zone, well, it's kind of like Brady was just talking about, if you're not super reliant or only reliant on everything has to be on job material, we had talked about that all last year that
- 13:44[SPEAKER_04]: Whether he was hurt, healthy, whatever, it felt like a hundred percent of all the offenses, everything outside of a six-quarter stretch from Ole Miss to Tennessee until Xavier Obson heard his knee against Daliband.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_04]: It was the material show for better or for worse and you hope a healthy material brings a lot of improvements, but every quarterback in the country wants a huge run game to support them and that's going to be a huge priority as we've seen by all the portal moves and everything.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_04]: The emphasis has been put on that.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: You just, yeah, you just look across the board at the offense and holistically it just appears to be in such a better position and it was last year, adding, adding guys on the outside like trail Harrison Parker Livingston.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously adding a Mario and Harris, Caleb Nita, a bunch of different guys on the offensive line, that should help the running game and then getting guys like the two freshmen running backs, getting some deaf pieces like Lloyd Abant, bin McCreeery.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 14:38[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just play devil's advocate and say all of the John material haters, the Texas fans.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_03]: Let's say they're correct and maybe that end of season material really is his final version.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: Even so, this team is set up so much better if that was to be the case.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think any of the four of us believe that that is what John material can be just evidenced by how he played against good defenses in Auburn and Michigan before his injury.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, you just look at the line, you look at the run game, you should be so much better supported this year.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_03]: And they're going to need that, just looking at the schedule with how many playoff teams, they play against this year, teams that just missed the playoff like Texas.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's not an easy schedule, so they need all the help they can get, even if material is really good.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: But I think they did a lot in the offseason to make sure that is the case.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: And really to real quick, Ryan, to further that point, it's always important to remind people, I think, because this is a University of Oklahoma where exceptional quarterback play is the standard.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't Lincoln, Riley, Oklahoma.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: Jommet's tier doesn't need to be a Heisman trophy winning quarterback for OU2, even be better than they were last year.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is a defensive lead program.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: They're just wanting Jommet's tier to be
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: good and a part of that is just going to be the offensive line being better and we all think that it can be the running in game to be better and we all think that it can be the receivers are fairly solid but Isaiah's is hanging coming back.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: All that kind of points to John material if the final two games of his season are what his ceiling is then so be it.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh you won one of those
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you could argue that if the special teams misapps didn't happen, oh, you still wins that game, or is in much better position to win that game, even with that end of first half collapse.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the the job material at PIXX was just kind of the cherry on top so that those final few minutes.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we'll have to.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_04]: If raising the floor, the team was, you know, where it vinnables is like main line, like the big team of his for Jim Nagier, every time he's spoken publicly, this spring, it's kind of been about surrounding town around Java tier.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_04]: For me personally, it's going to be like getting TI'd perform at the fourth quarter break of the next playoff game is supposed to 50 cent, but
- 16:51[SPEAKER_04]: John, every dominate a lot of the questions to Jim Nagi in general, there have been a couple of these given some interviews that you talked with Dory Noqua and stuff like that about putting that talent around John material.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that when the portal opened up and it was very, very clear immediately exactly how they wanted to attack and they went what, 10 for 11 on the opening weekend.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_04]: You look at it, new wide receivers, new offensive linemen to kind of backfill some of that depth that was lost, so they kept the front line guys, a new tight-end room.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_04]: Jim Nagy seemed pretty excited to step on in and kind of talk about some of those additions, because I think that he believes, and it certainly looks like the case on the outside looking in,
- 17:33[SPEAKER_04]: They spent that year really, really well preparing, and it looked like the front office was a well-old machine in tandem with Oklahoma, which should give Jason Whitton a much different room to come in and try to improve the maybe the one that was left for him.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you mentioned the tight-end room.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was the direction I was going to go.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys just look so much more capable, so much more equipped to be an SEC tight-end than what Oklahoma
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Brady talked about the running backs being better, the running game being better, the offensive line being better, and as a product of that material is going to be better, the wide receivers look.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I should say, improved, you get titanium back, and you add to that, you add some explosive, you add some experience, and those qualities to a receiver room that should be better, but the tight end room.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Should be phenomenally better.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's the position that to me I really want to get down and look at and compare what those guys did last year What they were asked to do last year and what they were going to ask these three guys to do this year Boy, that's that's something that if if it pans out
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: like it looks like it's going to, like I'm not sitting here saying they're all pros or they're all SEC or they're definitely better.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see it for my own eyes before I believe it, but I'm just saying the evidence that we've seen so far, it looks like those guys are going to be way better.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: Now I want to see how I'll use offensive line meshes with those guys, how the running game meshes with those guys, and I want to see what our buckled does with those guys as well.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: Ben, our buckled's got them.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: you know, he's got some pieces in place.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's got some pieces now on the board.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see how his chess game really evolves.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_04]: In the most simplistic way of looking at it, the we talk to five guys, whether it be the two freshmen, Jack the Doris Lair, Hayden Hanson and Rocky Bears and Carson Brady, you know this, there was not this past off season, but two years ago with
- 19:36[SPEAKER_04]: when we walked into media day and walked out of media day.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_04]: It seems so simplistic, but I turned out like that looks like a basketball team, actually.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_04]: There's some tall guys, there's some guys that look like a basketball team.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_04]: When Hayden Hanson walked into the room and when Jack and Dorsar walked by, I was like, oh, those guys are tight ends.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_04]: And it's the first time in a while that I've been like that, that's the Titan.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_04]: That's the Titan room.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have to check their name play.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, oh, yeah, that is.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_04]: He's really, really tall and broad shoulder, but also leader.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, that's Hayden Hanson probably without even like having to see his face or anything like that.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_04]: And, and I know that, uh, talking to a bunch of a Brady, you have the story right now up on the website, OklahomaSoonersonesside.com about Jack Van Dorsler and how he will get to the
- 20:21[SPEAKER_04]: You have some guys in a Hayden Hansen I think could probably fit into this as well that feel like they were pigeonholed at their last stop into you block.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_04]: That's all you do and what Oklahoma wants to do that to improve that running game.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: We know we've seen coming from a Washington state that Ben Arbuckle was like, hey, we might not throw 100 balls to the tight ends, but we can create some mismatches in the red zone.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_04]: We can use these guys and I just don't know if we got to see all of Arbuckle's creates.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_04]: He didn't have different guys to do different stuff with once you got past like Jiren Cannon at the Titan Spot.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like just from a body standpoint, I mean, Jim naggy talked about it during his press conference on Monday how they flip the room.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's talking season.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, for them, it's going to be spring ball.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to find out a lot of things that they, you know, they were either correct on or this guy needs to make a little bit more of a leap for us to actually sit there and put our chest out and say, yeah, all three of them are great.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the other thing about their skill sets,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just based on physicality, I mean, it seems like Hayden Hanson's going to be your bruising tight in.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: The guy who's going to open up lanes for your running backs, which is another thing.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you really struggled in.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when people think of tight ends nowadays, they tend to think of the past catching aspect and understandably so, especially from OU with
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: Mark Andrews, Grant Calcutara and how great that their tied in play was during the Lincoln Riley era.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: That makes a lot of sense.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Hayden Hanson appears to be the guy that's going to be your bruiser, your run, your run blocking guy.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Rocky Bears is the dude is going to go stretch the field for you.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: be that dynamic past catcher and Jack Van Dorsler by his own admission and by what Ben Arbuckle kind of has envisioned for him is to be a bridge between the two of them because in his opinion he felt he was he was used like a Hayden Hanson at the University of Tennessee during his freshman season last year played an all 13 games was mainly used in the run blocking schemes.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Now, oh you fans, what will remember?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: that he had a very key fork down drop in that game against knock in Knoxville, but if you watch the play, I mean, that play was blown up by Martin Jones Jr off the edge, bumping into Jack Van Dorsler, it was a pure timing route, and by the time he had turned around to look for the ball,
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: being delayed on his route, the ball hit him right in the helmet, so it's just an unfortunate play for him, but it seems like, yeah, this is a match made in heaven, not just from the standpoint of Jack Van Dorses or being from South Lake Harrel, so he's not too far from home being from the Dallas Fort Worth area.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: He played at Tennessee, and he got a phone call from a Tennessee legend in Jason Whitten to go play at the University of Oklahoma, which is ironic, but also
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: him kind of meshing with geometry or him meshing within our buckle and him finally understanding and hearing that no we see you as a guy that can do it all you can run block you can you can you can pass block you can go out there and catch balls down field that was a good thing for him to hear and that's exactly what you fans want to hear is they want to have a tight in room where every single guy that touches the field they're out there for a purpose and everybody is confident that they can execute that purpose
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: mean, your position coach caught 1200 passes in the NFL.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: No pressure on those guys.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just do it like this.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then just him again, being from Dallas for it worth.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was like he was destined to play for Jason Whitton if he ever did coaching college.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's now it's a match made in heaven.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_04]: I would like to, I tried to talk to, so I can get to write a mix.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_04]: I was hoping to do a little informal Italian.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_04]: How many OU titans have a youth-sized Jason Whitton jersey somewhere in their closet at their parents house?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: Cause I imagine that Jack probably one of those guys a candidate, writer, she's like, yeah man, I grew up a massive cowboy's fan, and Jason Whitton, and I was like, are you trying to, do you have to play it cool when you're there?
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, ah!
- 24:15[SPEAKER_04]: He's great at spitting.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, yeah, okay, I got a camera in your face, I get it, I get it.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: Coach, can I have your autograph more done with some dope sessions?
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan, Ryan, you talked to Rocky Beers, right?
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I didn't have a chance to talk to Rocky or Hayden Hanson.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Those two tight ends, they committed to OU out of the portal what a week and a half or two before Jason Whitton was reportedly hired by OU and then a few weeks later, as one OU made the official announcement.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Did you happen to ask Rocky like, hey, did you have an inkling that, oh, he was going to have a new Titans coach at all because I didn't hear that.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he basically said they did not tell me who it was going to be.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_04]: They just said that we promised we're bringing in someone that it's going to be really, really key to helping your career out.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_04]: So think for Rocky.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: His recruitment was probably a little bit different than even some of the other guys when you consider.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_04]: Reagan beers his sister.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_04]: She was joining him on the visit part of his visit was going to one of her games and and for him it's like hey we get the family back together, but yeah, you could tell that those guys were really really stoked and to kind of close the book on the naggy portion Carson, regardless of the tight in room gets better or not, I thought that Jim naggy
- 25:23[SPEAKER_04]: you can kind of see it first off he's just always great and always looks like he's in a great mood when he's talking to us which can't be the easiest thing in the world so thank you Jim for being fantastic but uh you can kind of see like the twinkle in his eye when he has about the offensive line and just if they had made no additions by simply returning all those starts from
- 25:40[SPEAKER_04]: Foget, Infosucy, and Parallelwee, and Osida, and Jake Michael, they were going to be stoked.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_04]: You add Harris, like, as Ben mentioned, you add some, like, backfilled guys in Caleb Nita and Peyton Joseph, who replaced some of that depth, then just talking to not Joseph, he had a class conflict, but talking to Nita and a guy that's like, yeah, we went and played a death valve, and that's when I knew.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_04]: I can hang with these kind of guys and things like that and regardless of how that goes, it should just by nature be a way more physical offensive line as you get a bunch of guys in their second year of playing, you know, meaningful snaps and really, really young guys.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you look at the depth that they're adding, getting an SEC starter like E-Mario on Harris, developing guys like Eddie Pierre, Louie, Michael, Fassouci, and Ryan Voget.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: They're one more year experience at this point.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you've got to like the foundation that's being built for both this year and years ahead, obviously goes without saying they have some impressive commits in the 2027 class.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_03]: So just you look at the state of where this offensive line has been the last two years and where it should be this year the next couple of years.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's really impressive and just one of the many wins that sooner fans have seen from Jim Nagy.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: But what I really like about Jim Nagy is he doesn't seem content with success that they've had this offseason past off his first offseason there.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: funny enough he actually corrected me on x twitter whatever you want to call it um i miss heard him i thought he said we we've had a lot of fun winning at the off season um he actually said win into the off season pretty much corrected me very politely said no i didn't say that the only winning happens on the field so as much as he likes the record
- 27:19[SPEAKER_03]: They're not content until they're actively competing, winning playoff games, winning national titles, which I think that's something that sooner fans have to love, just that he's not content with having the number one recruiting class, a great portal class, getting a really good offensive line.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's more to be done, and that should really impress, oh, you nation.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_04]: we will get to the future freaks weekend, which included a lot of winning here in a second.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, first let's hit around with some of the assistant coaches we got to talk to DeLimacola Jason Whitten and Lamar Morgan.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, let's start with Lamar Morgan, Carson.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, someone that I found his story just fascinating, a guy that basically, um, you know, from the taxis area.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_04]: So, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for, for,
- 28:05[SPEAKER_04]: for a lot of it, it's getting back close to home and working with someone like Brent Vendibles, but a big portion of his career has been spent, and he talked about this, that his two middle kids, the twins were born way premature, they were born at a little over a pound and spent a good amount of time in the hospital, kind of getting back up and do a lot of therapy things, and that
- 28:28[SPEAKER_04]: a lot of the moves in his career to this point have been how can we get closer to a good children's hospital or things like that which is just sometimes we get so caught up in the business of college football and everything that you forget to stop in and be like these are very human people that are doing their own.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_04]: You talk about I took the Vanderbilt job.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_04]: and wanted to do that stop purely because it's a great, you know, children's medical center and care like that.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_04]: But a guy that was talking about, he was reaching out, he's trying to find anyone he knew that he thought new preventables that could maybe whisper in his ear that I'm super interested in this job.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: It please pick up the phone.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm happy to answer it and kind of cool to see for him.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_04]: It feels like finally he can maybe put down some roots in a way that
- 29:11[SPEAKER_04]: his predecessor, J.V.L.I.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_04]: finally did.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_04]: That was his longest-stit in college football to stick at Oklahoma for the state that he had.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was really intriguing talking to Lamar Morgan, both about some of that personal stuff that you mentioned and why he's excited to be on this staff professionally.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_03]: He actually said that Benables first called his wife and offered him the job
- 29:40[SPEAKER_03]: stress what he likes about this OU staff, the team that he has joined, that there's so personally do prioritize relationships.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_03]: He also shouted out Miguel Chavis, Todd Bates, some of the other assistants and just really emphasized the relationships they've been able to build.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: But this sounds like both a dream job from a professional and a personal standpoint.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: that he is close to home being a Texas native, but he's also joining a defensive first program like Oklahoma under Brent Binnables.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: One that has obviously had great past success has really surge lately with the playoff run last year.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_03]: So it really seems like OU checks boxes in not only that oh I'm close to home, this is a good move for me personally, but from the professional aspect and that just seems like
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: The success that he has had at Vanderbilt Michigan, some of the other programs, seems like he does bring a lot of good experience working with what should be a really good cornerback room in 2026.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_04]: my new com bunch of those guys that I think it should be a pretty smooth transition for him as he gets up to speed into your one in britman bull's defense and other guy that has a lot of existing pieces to work with dealer McCullough coming in break it was hanging out with dealin uh... eat you talked about it earlier that he'd recruited you know the zader Robinson's the Tory bucks the world but what struck me about dealin McCullough is as much as we've been focused on the hey you know he got close with britman bull's when his sons were being recruited all that stuff pretty
- 31:17[SPEAKER_04]: Deal McCull has seems to be a very, very, very confident coach, which I dug, and he knows exactly what he wants, and he knows exactly how he intends on improving the so-called marining background.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, a quiet confidence with Deal McCull had not very, like a very calm, quiet voice, but when he talks, you know exactly that man is confident in what he's saying, and that no doubt is like already known in that running background again, like how familiar
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: most of these running backs at oh you are already with deal McCullab before he even step foot as the running backs coach on campus at oh you and close enough to Xavier Robinson by the way that when deal McCullab was coaching with your Las Vegas Raiders he's still texting Xavier Robinson up and telling them congratulations on the previous game here and there like they had a close relationship so this is a rather seamless transition from one running back coach that a lot of these running backs
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: came to OU because they wanted to play for democracy to a new one.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, a very good accident for OU to fall into the deal of McCullough, but with what he wants to do, like the interesting thing is, and how all these things were, it was a scrum.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: I went to him first, there was about five or six people around me.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: We asked him all of our questions, and then I went on to try to send John a thousand videos.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: When I came back, he was just sitting there by himself, and so I went up to him, and basically said,
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: how do you really think that you can fix this running back situation because last year OE was only down to two running backs that were quote unquote healthy.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean Xavier Robinson had a cast on his knee the size of a great fruit.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Tory Blaylock got hit on the first play the Ole Miss game and immediately wanted to come out and from that point on he was nowhere near healthy enough to really play but OE was down to those two guys.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: We all know what happened
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: And so I painted that picture for him and asked him how do you fix this?
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: And Dylan just went in and said, yeah, it's all about better management.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's about understanding who your ones and twos are, like you're starting running back.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: The main guys that you're going to be going into SEC play with, who are those guys?
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: For you last year, it was Xavier Grintori.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: May very well be again this year in 2026.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: If there you guys, I'm not going to have them do every single thing in practice, spring, summer, fall.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to have them do every single thing.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to build up a room here.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: So at the same time while you're trying to build up Jonathan Hatten or Lloyd Avant to get them going to give them more opportunities and practices showcase what they can bring to the table.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're saving Xavier Grombs and you're saving Tory Blaylock so that when you get into mid-October and November you're trying to position yourself for a playoff run, your best guys are healthy.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: and your best guys are available and capable to showcase those skills that make them so good.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think Xavier Robinson is is by far the best back that we've seen at OU in the last few years.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he's good enough to be an SEC workhorse back.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's just not been healthy in his two years to really showcase it.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully with the element call is different voice, a different mindset.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully we get to see a lot more
- 34:27[SPEAKER_04]: and as he builds up that room, the other thing I thought that was just the, it was subtle, but it was quite confidence in the mic drop moment.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_04]: If you go back to, you know, Brent had talked about that every single guy, Lamar Morgan, Jason Whitten, Deal McColle had other offers that they chose Oklahoma, they chose Oklahoma, in some cases, certainly Whitten McColle chose Oklahoma over the NFL, with offers that they had and Deal McColle, she's like, yeah, I mean, I picked my running back room.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_04]: I, I, I know I like Brent Venables, I know I like this program,
- 34:56[SPEAKER_04]: I really like what's in that room, and I wanted to go there, which played a big role in it, which I think is going to be huge, and then maybe the Lee shocking thing of the day who Jason Whitten, the Perennial All Pro Future Hall of Fame, or like we're just waiting a matter of a couple months before that gets minted, and he'll be in the hall.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_04]: He is at Oklahoma, he obviously put on a show.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: He's one of those guys that
- 35:19[SPEAKER_04]: Not a new thought, but he's already been a high school head coach.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_04]: If he wants to be a head coach in college football or the NFL, you get the vibe that he'll be there pretty quickly.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_04]: He just got to pick his way in that he wants, that's Raider's legend, Jason Witton, by the way.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_04]: He, that Raider's stint never gets talked about for some reason.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_04]: But no, it's a situation where you see with, Seneca Driver that he immediately comes in, lands to everyone tied it in the country with the future freaks.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_04]: And, you saw, as Brady mentioned earlier,
- 35:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, please.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_04]: It feels like this is somebody that's going to at the bare minimum have that Demarco Murray effect, but there's just something about Jason Witton that I kind of just embody that and maybe it's just because no shot anybody, but
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: what he was inheriting and taking over, it's a pretty low bar to be a better tight-in coach, then you saw that Joe John Laine of the Texas state, which is probably his level.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_04]: But you look at it and go, I don't know how this tight-in room's not going to be a lot better, and that's without really seeing Jason whittin' the tight-in coach get after him.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's without seeing Senator Graver yet in college.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: You step in and a month later, you step in to your first college head coaching, or your first college coaching job,
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: and a month later you've got the number one type in in the country signing or not signing but pledging to committing to Oklahoma I mean that's that's getting started pretty fast you know it's a lot for the other guys think about it a lot for the other position coaches to to look around and say do you see that oh my gosh I got I got to get the work I got to get some of those other you know five stars in here so just
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: No pressure guys like I said about the 1200 receptions no the same thing with the the the rest of the recruiting room so to speak the rest of the Guys going out after these recruits.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: No pressure just guy walks in basically off the street With his pro football Hall of Fame bust and says I'm Jason Whitton
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think guys are going to have to step it up.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's, that's what, that's one of the reasons why you hire somebody like that is because Brent Vettables now has an example to say, guys, I know you're not pro football hall of famers, but we need to recruit at a higher level, we need to be more, you know, whatever goes into recruiting, we need to be better at it.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that guy right there just set the standard.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: So looking forward to seeing what else he can do.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_04]: I would go, like to go out on a limb, I think Seneca drivers can end with more than the 100 yards or whatever that you know, John had from guys that he recruited at a high school.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_04]: So we will see there boys, let's split it up this way, we talked to almost all the new players there were a couple guys like we said, Peyton Joseph, he had class, couldn't make it get it.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_04]: But Carson, you don't have to hit everybody, but what kind of stood out to you?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_04]: We divided and conquered, so not everyone talked to every single person.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_04]: But I know you got in there mixing up with Bob Bentley, how was Bow?
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: And then just who else kind of stood out to you is guys that you got to chat with.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Bobentley was very interesting to talk to said that he's already picked up a lot from John material knowing that Bobentley is probably the quarterback of the future for this program said that he's trying to be as as good of a listeners he can to both John material been our buckle.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_03]: and really just built relationships with the other freshmen.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_03]: I know that he really said that he's enjoyed spending time with his roommate.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_03]: I forget who he said that was, but just all the other freshmen, he said that he's really prioritized building the relationships with them.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: No surprise, but just really, really cool to finally put a face to the name, get to meet him.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: That was the Jake Cruel, Cruel, I'm not, not quite sure how that one's supposed to be pronounced.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap, crap,
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, but he was, he was really neat to talk to.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_03]: He had Ole Miss in Texas as his finalist for his recruitment.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_03]: Basically said, it was always used defensive just identity that they have, that is what swayed OU over those two really good programs.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_03]: Loved what he saw from Brent Venomals from the current defensive ends that they had in our Mason Thomas, Taylor Wine guys like that.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: That was kind of the big selling point for Jake to come to Norman.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_03]: I think obviously former five star guy, he's going to be a disruptor, whether that's in year one year two.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: That was obviously one of the biggest gifts of the 2026 class.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: And then it was cool to meet some of the guys who might not have a huge impact in year one.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_03]: I thought Trace Rudd, I know Kicker is going to be a backup kicker in this year.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_03]: Hearing how he's already learned from Tate Sandel, of course, the Groza Award winner in 25.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: Um, that was pretty cool to hear a light hearing from Dezef and Walker who was in a similar situation to some of the other running backs, the tight ends, the corner backs who saw their position coaches leave.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_03]: Um, basically said, yeah, really bummed to see De Marco not be here anymore, but also really like dealing with Chloe.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: He's been instrumental in helping me grow.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't put the pads on yet, but I've already learned a lot.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_03]: So he was cool to talk to and just, yeah, like I said,
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: who would have kind of hear some of these guys' stories before we get to see them put on pats.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_04]: Brady, you had, who ought to chew it?
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: I know that you were over there with Jonathan Hatton, which here's my other thing that Walker and Hatton, I know on signing day that Jim now you had said their SEC backs.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_04]: They walked with their own just like, yeah those guys are SEC backs.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_04]: They are round and large and less good, but who else you link up with?
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, Jack Van Dorsler, of course.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I had that story on spinners on S.I.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: like you mentioned, Jonathan Hatton as well.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_00]: I also wrote a story about him on the website.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: If anybody can go check out mainly about the familiarity that he has with dealing with Cola.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Hatton, just from a visit like an eye test standpoint, he looks the part.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, as a highly touted running back, coming out of high school,
- 41:06[SPEAKER_00]: if you're an OU fan that's been around for a while, you know that running backs at OU is a very privileged position.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: He looks the part and we've already seen a handful of just even under democracy, true fresh running backs make impacts in year one, so I wouldn't be shocked to drop the hat and it's going to be another one and that long line of guys that can make impacts in their first years.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: Dakota Fields was an interesting conversation.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was the only one talking to him at the time, and I'm working on a little story with him probably for next week, because his story is just kind of interesting just because, again, like like Carlson had mentioned,
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: players that signed up to play for a certain position coach only to then step on a campus and play for another one.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: When Dakota Field's committed to owe you out of the portal from the University of Oregon, he was going to, he was under the impression he was going to play for J.V.L.I.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: and now he's in play for Lamar Morgan.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's of course excited about the prospect of playing for him as well, but he's mainly just excited for the prospect of playing under in Brent Metables' defense because he, I thought I was going to have to point this out, but he pointed
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Brent likes to rotate in a lot of corners in big moments and big games.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: And so Dakota Fields felt like his situation in Oregon was mishandled.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: I dare say it sounded like the Jade and not situation.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say that.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: But it was kind of the same verbage of he tours ACLL this freshman year.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: He took a little bit longer for him to heal.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: He felt like he was played a little bit too early in spring and somewhere the following year and then kind of hampered his recovery.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: And just didn't put him in the best position to succeed at Oregon, which is ultimately why he chose to lead the team.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in some time in mid-Dovember last year, Dan Lansing even was asked about it and he had very little to say at the time.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: when that happened.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: But Dakota Fields is excited about the prospect of potentially being a guy that could could play.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: It could very well play.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we're all excited about Portland, Guillory, and Eli Bowen, and even Jacoby Johnson.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: But past that, it's anyone's game and why not Dakota Fields with his size and his measurables and his, his, his, the accurate he brains from a recruiting standpoint.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: He, he definitely fills that, that mold.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then also another player that may or may not play that much.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: even in their first year, let alone, you know, maybe like maybe a second year guy, but Chris Schmore was just a fun, fun player to talk to.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_00]: He's just incredibly charismatic, energetic.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: He is, of course, as he says, the zero star linebacker from Selma, Alabama.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: He had also mentioned that, well, I played Edge my first two or three years in high school if I played linebacker, I probably would have been more higher rated.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: But for a kid that comes
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: Last look guys, I believe there are only seven or eight players from the state of Alabama to ever play at the University of Oklahoma, and he's the eighth or the ninth guy, and now you know you say that and you look at the twenty twenty seven class, now there's three Alabama players committed at this point to play for OU, but
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: Considering what his recruiting profile was, what his background was, he is excited about being an Oklahoma center.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's very excited about playing under Brent Venables and that energy that that that I guess that charisma that he has is really infectious and the thought that he gets to play and learn under Kip Lewis who is of course very character's magic and very infectious and very energetic in his own right.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like a match made in heaven.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_04]: It sounds like co-solvings also stoked to play under Print Minibles.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_04]: That was something that I know we had the story in John.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_04]: I know that you'd gone back through and watched that, but when you look at, getting over some of the awkwardness of, I think it was Brady, where you talking to him, so the awkwardness of the, hey, when you review some of the Michigan film and go, well, that's me.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_04]: I'm out there.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_04]: but uh... he's a guy that when he's just talk about stuff like brit vennables clearly believes in me and i just want to like pay that back in production that that's the kind of stuff that uh... i think okloma fans don't have to fret too much about when it comes to brit vennables and his linebackers but it's still nonetheless uh... really really engaging the good stuff to hear
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: That was going to be my vote, too, was just a simple fact that he's, you know, sent him down to the dark room and flipped the video on, and there he is, except he's playing for the other team.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: And he's watching his teammates play, except for last year they were playing for the other team.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a unique situation.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Brady did a good job in that story encapsulating how weird
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: the transfer portal has made college sports now that you've got guys you know every look how many games next year Oklahoma's playing against former sinners like four or five games are gonna be playing against former sinners so it's just weird I'll say this and it looks like it sounds like a cop out I know because you're sitting here saying hoover did you watch all 30 of those videos well technically okay honestly no I did not watch all 30 videos But if you want to watch all 30 videos you can go to my YouTube channel John Hoover meet John Hoover media.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, check that out on YouTube
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: So, here's what I was going to say is coming from a former high school football player who was an absolute dork with the media, I sucked really bad at speaking with the local press.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: I did it a couple of times.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was embarrassed every time because I'm terrible at it or I was 40 years ago.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: these guys come in to owe you and you know they've done the radio interviews they've done face-to-face interviews after games and after campuses that they are so good at it they're so polished the freshman come in here and that guys they are camera ready they are interview ready for the media and it is it has for about the last 15 years or so it has really impressed me how Oklahoma has done a really good job prepping these guys
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they've been doing sessions and not necessarily classes, but courses, I guess, on how to speak to the media, what not to say, how to express yourself, and I'm talking about the freshmen.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not talking about the transfers, the transfers have been polished up somewhere else.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: and then they come to Oklahoma.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: But just the fact that these guys come in as freshmen and they are ready to go, they are polished and they sound good, they look good, they present themselves well, they represent the program well.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: I've always been impressed by that.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, how does that do know at 18 years old, how to speak that good in the media?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: Because I was a joke at it, I was terrible.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was a Johnny idiot.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: Johnny, you say that, but let's just make a really early season prediction right now.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: Is Parker Livingston going to be available
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to say no.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say yes.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mike out very savvy.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be able to coach him up and tell him what not to say how to steer around certain road blocks.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't wait to talk that guy during Texas week.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_04]: I would ask, what does Oklahoma's record at that point?
- 48:00[SPEAKER_04]: Because that will, uh, determine the future.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: Two and three probably not.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_04]: We've gotten many of that.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_04]: You'll get the captains and you'll like it.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_04]: Which is fine.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_04]: Also, I'll just toss in Deakin Schmidt.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_04]: He's excellent.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_04]: I know that Oklahoma didn't sign many offensive live and had a high school, but I know that they had big expectations for Deakin and, uh, him and Ryder Mix seem to have, uh, a fantastic relationship.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_04]: And when I was asking Ryder like, hey, who are some of the freshmen that you're looking forward to getting out there and spring while they're really good at impressing at two names?
- 48:27[SPEAKER_04]: Bobentley, which I think is always good to hear from your freshman quarterback who might very well end up winning that backup job in the knee of Deakin Schmidt.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_04]: So we will see there, six guys that Oklahoma hopes will be talking to next year around this time.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_04]: We're at it over the weekend course and I have to I had to write them all down just to make sure I didn't forget anybody except I'm flying left right instead of.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'm in Tyson Ross and I could driver it.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_04]: We've talking about D.B.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_04]: J.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_04]: And Scott quarterback, James Roberts, 2027 quarterback in the boat, Cooper Whitten.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if anyone had any relationships there prior, but we'll see.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_04]: And then great in how in-state athlete does a lot of quarterback against the high school level, but you're going to play it all over the place a little bit.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, easy to say, but a massively successful recruiting weekend for the future free six public commits and it feels like we're just waiting in the wings for a couple more to pop as well for this past weekend.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's pretty remarkable.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's arguably the best recruiting week ever.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think you could say, I'm just getting, I think five on one day in Cooper, Whitton, too.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's on herd of, especially when you look at how highly rated these players are.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, getting a quarterback massive.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_03]: Some sites have him as a three star, but if you look at his stats, who he's been offered by, it's very clear that a lot of people are valuing him higher than a three star prospect.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_03]: He looks the part led up led his team to the six a.m. a state title last year, crazy good thrower, crazy good runner, oh, he's got to like what they're getting.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_03]: Also getting another Alabama kid in jail and Scott, I know that he is a consensus four star,
- 50:04[SPEAKER_03]: a lot of people really like what they see in him.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_03]: That's obviously a big addition.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think Greedon, Greedon, Greedon Howell, that is maybe the most intriguing pick-up.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_03]: Someone that hasn't been a highly rated prospect for very long, finally starting to get his flowers from the recruiting networks.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_03]: But an Oklahoma kid, Broken Boe, I believe.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_03]: And he's someone like you said Ryan can do a lot of different things.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously,
- 50:32[SPEAKER_03]: sounds like you can catch the ball of knee, but you can also play defensively.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, I kind of like getting that jack of all trades, getting the local commitments obviously following Cooper Hackett, Kaden Penny.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, it was a big talking point that the 2026 class didn't have any Oklahoma signings.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think they've made a mince for that with the 2027 class so far getting so many good guys from this state.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's massive too to just not only dominate, but dominate in your state.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's pretty big deal.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_04]: off and running far away than a run class just by commits by quality quits all that fun stuff early days in the 2027 class and yeah once again to the summer we'll see who is stuck from this class but it it just I get it for with how everything is right now it's easy to be good vibes
- 51:25[SPEAKER_04]: Was it hired with this initial set up of the NFL style front office and all that stuff?
- 51:30[SPEAKER_04]: It seems like it's all working seamlessly and portal recruiting all that stuff and certainly We will see if that continues here as there's no reason it shouldn't as we get into that.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_04]: All right, let's step outside of the football world
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: real quick baton around women's basketball did what they needed to to lock down probably a top four seed by taking down Florida got absolutely spanked again by LSU.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's going to drop them to a four line which means they'll host the first two rounds.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_04]: It might be a sacrament of her sport worth situation, either Yukon or Texas.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_04]: They're just not athletic enough.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_04]: They will get to the sweet 16 and lose to Yukon or Texas, unless Alia Chavez goes bananas.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_04]: I think I'm pretty settled there, Carson, SEC tournament kicks out today for the men.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_04]: We won't get into it too much with OU South Carolina for the time.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_04]: Let's do this.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_04]: You'll have time.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_04]: That game is not going to pop till midnight, but 830 is the scheduled.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_04]: bare minimum three games is that is that what we're thinking that if they're not playing on Friday because a lot of people in the bubble are losing, but Oklahoma is still needing to get up wrongs and I just simply don't think a win over South Carolina and Texas A&M by itself is going to be enough.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think two with some help might get them there.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think three gets them in without much drama on selection Sunday.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_03]: Beat South Carolina, don't be an M. I don't think they make it.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: Beat South Carolina and A&M.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's, I don't know, maybe a 46D chance, but they need some help from the bubble.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_03]: when those two games and Arkansas, I think they're in, probably still going to date, but I think they would be in the field, which the fact that we're discussing this at this point, it's remarkable considering where this program was after 10 games and SEC play.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_04]: Remarkable and you know, everyone gets a thumbs up for trying hard.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_04]: It's an indictment on the NCAA tournament that we're talking about expansion and that Oklahoma should have made it last year in like a normal year.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_04]: And for them to even be still alive is insane.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_04]: But that's due to hear nor there.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Last time last year, right?
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: Last team in last year would certainly be the last team in this year if they were to get in.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: So we were seeing out two years before that, right?
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's not a, that's not a boundary you want to be dancing on if you're a basketball program like Oklahoma.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hey, indefense of Porter Moser, though, like, let me throw some egg on my face.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_00]: This was, I wrote this, published it on January 21st.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_00]: The title, it's time for Oklahoma Basketball, the Charter New Path.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: You can find that on Sooner's on S.I.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: Path.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_00]: What word has Porter Moser been using the last two weeks and to his credit, they have followed that path.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, hey.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: If they keep winning, just play it in me.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_04]: If they are talking about paths, what would you need to see from now until whatever Oklahoma is officially done playing basketball to be cool with the decision that brings Porter Moser back.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_04]: Because for me, anything short of like literally an elite eight run, I'm just
- 54:32[SPEAKER_04]: over it, we've seen the Porter Moser experience.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think throwing more NIL at a guy that can't coach in the last two minutes is going to do anything as far as getting Oklahoma off of this.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_04]: They're just going to be a bubble team and Porter Moser has shown us Carson throughout his career.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_04]: He has to runs to the tournament and every other year he's ever coached.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_04]: Most of us have ended in losing seasons and not even getting to 500 in conference play.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it would still take a lot for me, even though I think he does deserve his flowers for the stretch.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_03]: Six out of the last eight games they've won, both losses coming to teams that should be turning at locks at this point.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_03]: There's no denying that it's been an impressive stretch, but it also doesn't erase those nine games in a row.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_03]: They lost two of those coming against not very good South Carolina and Mississippi State teams.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: I think if they made a run in the SEC maybe getting to the finals, say they do what they need to do when those three games, then they win a couple of maybe make it to the sweet 16.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_03]: I think you could convince me that maybe he should get another year, avoid the buyout, then it's got to be maker break.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of those things that if OU does decide to pull the trigger, get rid of poor emosorate, they have to have a replacement in mind.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_03]: they have to get someone that's savvy within IEL, the portal, this new age of college basketball, because I mean, looking at hoarder mousers, days at Loyola, Chicago, there's no doubt that he can lead a basketball team.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he's just not up to speed with how much this game has changed, how much the style of plays change, the portal.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_03]: So many different aspects have changed.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're seeing it from Scott Drew at Baylor.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_03]: Those teams aren't what they used to be
- 56:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's a lot of coaches that are having the same success kind of, we've seen that in football with Mike Gundy, Davos Winnie, not doing what they did, pre-monuments whole changes in the sport.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_03]: So really, if they decide to do it, what I'm trying to say is they just got to make sure they get the right guy, somebody that has some sort of, I think it's important, they get someone with a connection to the school, a love for the school, whether that's,
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, say I'll call this price, somebody like that, just throwing names out there, but getting someone that is both has a desire to stay for at least a good several years and is up to speed.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's the biggest thing if they do decide it to get rid of quarter-moser.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: that you're part Ryan with this is just going to be if let's say that they do go on that elite eight run or even better let's just go on press the run you have to also have the knowledge that he's going to be able to bring in talent I mean it's always like oh it's like everybody wants a five everybody wants a big if you could go on a run like that
- 57:16[SPEAKER_00]: and then guarantee that you can get that five or you can bring in like legitimate talent because that's been the tricky part.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what we don't know for sure is has Porter Moser lost the room in terms of the money, the influencers, the money makers with this program, particularly with the basketball.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: If so, then it's a point.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: But if he hasn't, if there's still people that believe, you need to be able to guarantee that you can bring in even more talent so you can avoid a nine game losing streak in conference.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_04]: And then one of the other big question marks is just the Roger Dini of it all right.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_04]: We don't know what Roger Dini's view on Do I need to bring in my own guy?
- 57:56[SPEAKER_04]: Do I believe in Porter Moser?
- 57:57[SPEAKER_04]: He just has not had the resource and it's he was an associate 80.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_04]: He was on some Search committees search firm stuff for other coaching searches, but we've never seen him
- 58:08[SPEAKER_04]: be the guy that makes the call and have don't really have a track record.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_04]: Like for Joe see we knew for OE basketball as long as no one's getting arrested, he was kind of cool with mediocrity or whatever, please just make a tournament run occasionally.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_04]: Joe is just like just please don't bother me with the basketball because there was no denial of resources and he just went out to get the oldest steadiest hand in law necruder he could get just to, you know, do that for a decade and call it.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_04]: I know that everyone pushed back on that but I mean,
- 58:33[SPEAKER_04]: It was awesome.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_04]: It was incredible for one of the years, and then it was just, yeah, the other time.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_04]: That's the Joe C method to like, don't bother with your basketball.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_04]: How motivated it is, Roger Jenny, coming from a place like Illinois.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_04]: His first lock-in to Collision Athletics is caring a lot about basketball.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_04]: What do you grow up?
- 58:48[SPEAKER_04]: A North Carolina fan, caring a lot about basketball.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe he has a very different viewpoint on what Oklahoma basketball needs to be.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_04]: And if he does, then Porter Moser shouldn't stay very long in that office because you're just talking to get there with Porter.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: Ryan, you hit it right on the head, here's a guy who came up in college basketball as an elite member of college basketball, right?
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it means something different to him than it meant to joke stiggly on now.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at, oh use NIL spending, we're told what I saw a graphic this week, oh use 15th out of 16 teams in the SEC and what their commitment to NIL.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Roger Denny hasn't been frustrated for the last four years by, uh, Porter Moser's kind of underachieving, um, teams, right.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: He has, he hasn't, he comes into this thing with a fresh perspective.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, this year he's probably looking at it going, okay.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_01]: Trying to catch up, you know, trying to do that whole thing.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: What did they do last year?
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: How does it compare to the year before?
- 59:48[SPEAKER_01]: What about his best year?
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: Which one of these years is his best year?
- 59:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's all new to this.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_01]: from an Oklahoma basketball perspective.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: He should know if he's a college basketball fan that OU is a good program, a great program, is that program that we keep talking about.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_01]: Number one in the country, back and forth, number one in number two in the country among basketball teams that don't have a national championship.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: So he's probably got some perspective on what, OU basketball should be, or what maybe the fans think it should be.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_01]: But at this point, he's learning on the fly.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: you mentioned the deep pocket boosters, the big money donors, what do they think?
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to know right now, people who are going to give to the program, we're going to improve that 15 out of 16 NIO spending, the people who are responsible for kind of pulling this program up from where it is right now.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to take their perspective into consideration probably as much as anything.
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_01]: So that's your right man, it's going to be interesting how he
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's to me like kind of the biggest question mark in the next year for Oklahoma athletics.
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just fascinated to see what the Because we asked him and he wasn't gonna, you know, be like yeah, so he's coming back or no He's leaving on his introductory press conference say I get that, but just the We we know his method for and checking in but this is the only one that you're gonna have to probably make a decision before you have that opportunity And I'm just curious to see what that looks like good to see Raj by the way He was bounced around in the background a media deck and to talk to him for a little bit sounds like you settled in pretty nice It's been a whirlwind what 45 days or whatever it's been
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, since he's been announced.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_04]: So got that going.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_04]: We got SEC play kicking off on, uh, Im Hof basically this weekend.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_04]: Skips crew hosting Texas A&M, Paddy's crew hosting Auburned and they're getting the heck out of town for tournament weekend, which is great for all of us personally.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, you look at it today at three o'clock definitely will be done by the time that or in the closing stages by the time this is out.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_04]: You see our link to in the last midweek for the suitors on the baseball side of things.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_04]: Didn't have an A&M and guys big, big, big, big, big weekend to kind of open this thing because I know the midweeks are the midweeks Carson Brady and of course we'll go here first, but you look at some of the LSU struggles, some of the four to struggles.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_04]: In a weird way, maybe this is too premature in an over-reaction for the non-conference, but the SEC kind of feels a little wide open on the baseball side, or more wide open than maybe you thought when you look in the preseason Oklahoma's ranked at the bottom of the top 25, and it's way, way down in the SEC rankings.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, I think you're pretty correct in that assessment.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's ironic, aside from Mazoo, the three former Big 12 schools have looked really good so far with OUA and M in Texas.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_03]: I believe they have a combined three losses at this point.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty dang good.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_03]: I know Texas number two in the nation Mississippi State, of course, a really good team.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, at the top, it still looks really strong.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_03]: Auburn looks like a pretty dang good team this year.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_03]: But it is a big opportunity.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_03]: For OU, I think winning this series, I mean, A&M's a good team definitely improved a lot from what was a disappointing first year on our micro early for them last year.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_03]: If they could find a way to win two games of the series at minimum, that would be a really good just kind of litmus test of where this team is at, because
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_03]: If we're being realistic, LSU is going to get better, Florida is going to get better.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_03]: Some of these teams that we've seen struggle, they're going to get better.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_03]: You see that with a lot of these top tier programs in college, baseball, just kind of, especially when you're restarting from scratch with the portal losing guys to the MLB draft.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_03]: In this era, it's going to take time for at least a lot of these major teams to kind of find their identity.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_03]: You're seeing that with LSU dropping games to Northeastern and McNee State,
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's impressive that both OU and A&M, the two teams playing in this series this weekend.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_03]: They haven't had those struggles against inferior competition.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_03]: Gonzaga took one game from OU, but it's one game at Sunday, probably your third best pitcher in the rotation there.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_03]: And Gonzaga has been a pretty good mid major over the years.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_03]: You don't look back at that like, oh, that's alarming.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I think coming into this game assuming they take care of business against UTR and Tim with only two losses, one of those coming against Arizona State, that's that's pretty good and I think winning a series would be massive just to get things going for SEC play.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, like the thing for you this year, from a baseball standpoint, is just when as many games as you can, like let the series isn't going to be tough, I mean, if you just peruse the schedule, it is hard, hard, hard, hard, hard.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it is just all about raw wins.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: Can you get, can you accumulate enough wins?
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_00]: And to your point, Carson, I mean, with Florida, LSU struggling in the non-conference, I mean, how many times have we seen the
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: run only to then get a reality check in conference play.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean whether it's the big 12 for the SEC, I mean you're playing tough great baseball programs weekend in a week out and it's just this it's hard like this schedule is going to be hard for this team, but I think mainly for or oh use chances it's can they couple overall really good pitching with a good day at the play because what we've seen this team
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_00]: just string together hits, doubles, triples, home runs even, put a lot of points on the board.
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_00]: When you face so you wanna day like that, they're gonna be tough to beat, especially if you're going up against Cameron Johnson on Friday, LGTem Curious, who I think is even probably the best pitcher on the team.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_00]: That guy is just incredible with his control, his speed, he's got the entire package in my opinion.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_00]: If you compare that with, oh, you having a great day from a Jackson Willets, a Drew Dickerson, Dayton, a chance like these guys that have just consistently made contact with the ball with the bat.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_00]: If you can do that, like, oh, you, it is going to find a lot of the success even with this tough schedule.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_00]: But again, it's just going to come down to, yes, try to win the series is that you're playing in Norman when you're going on the road.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_00]: There's no shame and like split like winning one game in Tesla's there's no shame in winning one game at Vanderbilt.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_00]: This is gonna be tough.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_04]: something we saw them navigate pretty well last year, and I'm just excited to see, against the SEC pitching, something to skip a talk about, they needed a little bit more power.
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_04]: I'm happy to see you're excited to see if that's gonna continue to show up.
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_04]: Some of them isn't lacking no power, the other side of Imhaugh.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_04]: Oklahoma softball on Sunday, yeah, Sunday.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_04]: They became officially the fastest D1 program to 100 homers.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_04]: It took them 25 games to get to 100.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_04]: previous record was 36 games by this same Oklahoma program in 2021, that team I keep reminding people they needed to play the maximum number of games, no gonna say to you to set the home run record or that certainly helped them.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_04]: I do not think that this Oklahoma team is going to have to worry about that.
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_04]: A great deal.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_04]: But you can see it came out of Sunday as you got good performances in the circle from Sid Berson.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_04]: I thought my little chanel looked good as well, continued to look good, and then patty gasso was fired up about it may seem.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_04]: In consequential, Kirsten Deal comes in with one out in the fifth and a run rule, immediately gets a double play, but Patty just spoke about, like, that's the Kirsten Deal I know, seeing her confidence things like that.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm really curious to see if that means that Kirsten Deal gets a chance to maybe build on that against Tulsa tonight.
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_04]: As the Golden Hurricane walk into Love's field, I don't know if this will be like an Alyssa Parker situation, give the freshman one more chance to get out there before you set up.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_04]: some version of what should be lorry would change us on that Friday Saturday against Auburn an Auburn team that just um
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_04]: Not great in the circle, we'll see what they're able to do coming in with a 4.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's I think it's on 3.916 ERA, that's not exactly what you want when you're talking about this Oklahoma team that can absolutely match, especially if it's blowing out on Sunday.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll see there.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_04]: But big, big tests.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_04]: It's the first time since Mary Nudder Week in the Oklahoma's facing Real Pitching Staff, sorry to Louisiana, who I was
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_04]: just not super impressed with other leasing and held to two runs, but a lot of ways it out.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm Sunday morning.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_04]: So we will see as far as that goes.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_04]: A weird quirk of things too.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_04]: Oh you, I think A&M and Mississippi state, the three teams this past weekend that in the FCCs, suffolize you get one by week.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_04]: And there by week was the first week of SEC place.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_04]: So it was kind of a little bit of full mode.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_04]: You're looking around the country and seeing Tennessee and LSU get after it, Texas and South Carolina.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_04]: It was Auburn and Kentucky, Kentucky won the first K-1 Friday and Auburn swept the Saturday double header.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_04]: I was just like, man, it'd be cool to be watching SEC games right now instead of abling Christian.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, it'd be what it'd be as Oklahoma continues to rack it up.
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_04]: Kind of well as leads the country to 19 homers.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_04]: Fresh and record is 30.
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, she just has to hit 11.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_04]: She's gonna like miss hit three in SEC play much less 11 between that regional saw that.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be a fun week Not to interrupt but the thing about her is the damn distance on these shots that she's hitting I have leaving the facility.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're like leaving a city of Norman holy hell girl
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_04]: I had, I don't often do this publicly at least.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_04]: I had someone that was spamming through any tweet about OU home runs with like the distances are 220 in the corners, this is a literally park, and I was just like, Kindle Wells launched one 304.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_04]: Also, the trackman data is out there.
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_04]: OU tweets at every single time.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_04]: These home runs are like 280 feet bombs and they're consistent.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, take that to any softball park in the country and you're gonna be going yard at 280,
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_04]: Not all people were blessed with common sense when they came out of the womb and, you know, it'd be what it'd be.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_04]: Okuma fans and Okuma softball fans specifically, no strangers to people like, wow, because they're an Okuma city, that's the only reason that the ball felt flies for 100 feet.
- 1:09:41[SPEAKER_04]: No, I think they would have hit that anyway, but we shall see.
- 1:09:45[SPEAKER_04]: I was trying to think anything else going on in the world of OU that we missed, because I know it's been action packed with the pre-spring media day and all that fun stuff, but- Oh, when is Jim?
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to be in class for NCA's, right?
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no, conference, conference, conference, SEC.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_01]: And their regular season champs, as usual.
- 1:10:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, undefeated regular season champs.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, rank number one all year.
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_01]: So no surprise and no news or anything.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_01]: But hey, that's off once again.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's easy to play.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_01]: So KJ has been just built a unit that is almost self-sustaining, though.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's insane, uh, tennis.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_01]: Mark Williams, Mark Williams got the number one men's team.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_01]: So don't forget.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_04]: Say, tennis just started at SEC play.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_04]: They're both doing pretty well.
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_04]: Then Mark Williams, it's, you can count the ranking.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_04]: Combined rankings of Oklahoma's gymnastics teams on two hands.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_04]: Our two fingers, excuse me, that is just one and one for them.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_04]: So,
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_04]: All right, next week, it'll be spring break in Norm and not spring break for us.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_04]: We'll dive a lot more into some of the runoff stuff that we missed from Media Day as we're still kind of digesting all of it.
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_04]: We'll start to kick up our spring preview as well as practice will kick off the last week of March, Oklahoma's wait until everybody gets back from a spring break to truly get that going.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_04]: But Brady, thank you my friend for stepping in for Mr. Abert, thank you to Carson and
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_04]: Monday, we were kind of busy.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_04]: We were tied down to Norman and figured, let's just get through at CC play and we'll see Be able to stop back in and have that every single Monday as long as they don't give us 40 athletes available Prote on Thursday.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_04]: That's the other thing.
- 1:11:20[SPEAKER_04]: Jaden, not back
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_04]: In Normandy, Everest indoor for Pro Day, we'll have our big pro day recap tomorrow, big days for emergency Kindle Daniels Dominic Williams, if they're feeling better to be able to do some stuff that they weren't able to do at the combine, but we'll be able to recap Pro Day and all that fun stuff next week, but that'll do it here on the suitors, on a side podcast, the website, Oakland suitors, on a side.com.
