Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody?
• 0:11
Speaker 2: Welcome into this edition of the Czech ODII. It's Andrew
• 0:14
Speaker 2: Decheco here of Inside the Birds dot Com. And as
• 0:18
Speaker 2: I sit here on this Friday, the final day that
• 0:21
Speaker 2: the Eagles had in terms of their preparation for the
• 0:23
Speaker 2: Minnesota Vikings, I also have an official game status, which
• 0:27
Speaker 2: I think most Eagles fans listening you would certainly take that,
• 0:32
Speaker 2: especially considering what the week looked like to start out
• 0:36
Speaker 2: for this game. Tight End Grant Calcatara with the od
• 0:38
Speaker 2: league questionable, defensive tackle Jalen Carter with the heel, and
• 0:43
Speaker 2: guard Landon Dickerson with the ankle not listed at all
• 0:46
Speaker 2: with any sort of designation. Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell with the hamstring.
• 0:51
Speaker 2: Great news there, and I think back to that Thursday
• 0:55
Speaker 2: night game where Quinyon Mitchell was in the medical tent
• 0:58
Speaker 2: for a while was immediate ruled out with the hamstring.
• 1:02
Speaker 2: That type of injury for a cornerback is typically dicey
• 1:06
Speaker 2: and lengthy, but Quinna was out there on Wednesday and
• 1:11
Speaker 2: trended in the positive directions to the point where he
• 1:14
Speaker 2: wasn't even listed on the final injury report in terms
• 1:18
Speaker 2: of the game status. So that's really important. Jalen Carter,
• 1:22
Speaker 2: who said that he was going to play Wednesday, has
• 1:26
Speaker 2: been listed as limited the past two days with the heel.
• 1:30
Speaker 2: That's gonna be something to keep an eye on. Landon
• 1:34
Speaker 2: Dickerson with the ankle also listed as questionable.
• 1:38
  Speaker 1: That's you know.
• 1:39
Speaker 2: I mean, Landon has proven in his career that will
• 1:42
Speaker 2: play through anything, but sometimes you have to almost protect
• 1:45
Speaker 2: the player from themselves to avoid further injury or to
• 1:49
Speaker 2: make sure that you're allowing them enough time to.
• 1:52
Speaker 1: Get to full strength.
• 1:53
Speaker 2: So those are two injuries Jalen Carter and Landon Dickerson
• 1:56
  Speaker 2: that I'll be.
• 1:56
Speaker 1: Paying close eye on.
• 1:59
Speaker 2: And this is going to be a really interesting matchup
• 2:02
Speaker 2: with the Minnesota Vikings. So let's look at it from
• 2:06
Speaker 2: a defensive perspective. They're going to be going up against
• 2:10
Speaker 2: Carson Wentz. And if you're listening, you've likely seen Carson
• 2:14
Speaker 2: Wentz play many games for the Phoodelphi Eagles.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: You know that he's gonna hold onto the football.
• 2:18
Speaker 2: He's going to try to an extend plays, which sometimes
• 2:22
Speaker 2: leaves him prone to force fumbles.
• 2:24
Speaker 1: If you can get home and get the.
• 2:27
Speaker 2: Strip sack, you may be able to come up with
• 2:29
Speaker 2: an interception or two because he will force the ball.
• 2:32
Speaker 2: Sometimes they sail on him, and I think for an
• 2:35
Speaker 2: Eagles secondary that's kind of in flux right now. This is,
• 2:40
Speaker 2: I guess, a good matchup in the sense that Carson
• 2:42
Speaker 2: Wentz has been prone to mistakes, but it's a bad matchup,
• 2:46
Speaker 2: a difficult matchup based solely off of the skilled players
• 2:49
Speaker 2: that the Minnesota Vikings have Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. They
• 2:53
Speaker 2: have Jalen Naylor, Adam Thielens there as well.
• 2:56
Speaker 1: We talked about Quinya Mitchell.
• 2:58
Speaker 2: He'll be able to travel with Justin Jefferson, but then
• 3:01
Speaker 2: you have to worry about the other side with Jordan Addison,
• 3:04
Speaker 2: who's going to see a lot of Adri Jackson, who
• 3:07
Speaker 2: Vic Vangeos said was probably going to be in line
• 3:09
Speaker 2: to start at cornerback two this week. Make no mistake,
• 3:13
Speaker 2: Vikings oci Wes Phillips and Kevin O'Connell the head coach,
• 3:17
Speaker 2: and Carson Wentz. They're going to devise a game plan
• 3:20
Speaker 2: that should center around or spotlight wherever Dorri Jackson is
• 3:24
Speaker 2: on the field and try to exploit that matchup. But
• 3:28
Speaker 2: what I will say from an Eagles standpoint, their options
• 3:30
Speaker 2: are somewhat limited, and I think the best option at
• 3:34
Speaker 2: corner opposite Quinnon is a Dori Jackson, because, for one,
• 3:39
Speaker 2: I think he's been a more consistent player, and the
• 3:43
Speaker 2: other piece of that is that he's been in the
• 3:45
Speaker 2: league for nine years, so there's not a lot of
• 3:47
Speaker 2: things that an offense can throw him that he hasn't
• 3:50
Speaker 2: seen before. And because of that, I think he gives
• 3:56
Speaker 2: you a little bit more stability there. There's less guess work.
• 3:58
Speaker 2: Now he has to go out there next cute his
• 4:00
Speaker 2: assignments and he's going to be a marked man out there,
• 4:04
Speaker 2: but that that's going to be the secondary for the
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Eagles this week. And I think Adori is in a
• 4:11
Speaker 2: good place mentally, and he's learned to be adaptable throughout
• 4:15
Speaker 2: his whole career. I wrote a story about this on
• 4:17
Speaker 2: Inside the Birds dot com. He talked about some of
• 4:21
Speaker 2: the things that he's learned about himself in his new
• 4:22
Speaker 2: spot here in Philadelphia. Talked about learning to be adaptable,
• 4:26
Speaker 2: which he certainly has plenty of experience, and staying true
• 4:30
Speaker 2: to himself and being himself and asking questions still being
• 4:34
Speaker 2: that veteran in the room, not shying away from that,
• 4:37
Speaker 2: and trying to hone.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: In on the details.
• 4:39
Speaker 2: He said that I'm always learning and I'm and there's
• 4:42
Speaker 2: that thirst for knowledge. That he is sort of a
• 4:45
Speaker 2: typical in a sense to some veteran players. But that's
• 4:48
Speaker 2: going to be your your secondary. The edge rusher situation
• 4:52
Speaker 2: is interesting because the Eagles are obviously light there. They
• 4:56
Speaker 2: had four players and Azizo, Jilari, Jaylyox Hunt, joshha and
• 5:01
Speaker 2: Patrick Johnson. We've talked a lot about Patrick Johnson having
• 5:05
Speaker 2: the Alwa sack. It's just one sack of the group.
• 5:08
Speaker 2: They have been close, they have generated pressure. But I'm
• 5:12
Speaker 2: curious to see what the Eagles do to add another
• 5:17
Speaker 2: body to that group to absorb some of those vacant
• 5:19
Speaker 2: snaps that were left with Zadarius Smith's retirement, and Jahad
• 5:23
Speaker 2: Campbell and or Zach Bond could factor into that equation.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: In fact, I'm expecting them to.
• 5:29
Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure in what capacity, but Zach Bond's
• 5:33
Speaker 2: been effective when rushing the passer off the edge, and
• 5:36
Speaker 2: Jahad Campbell that was part of the appeal when the
• 5:38
Speaker 2: Eagles drafted him, that versatility.
• 5:40
Speaker 1: But it's going to take a collective to get home.
• 5:42
Speaker 2: But I think this is a week where the Eagles
• 5:44
Speaker 2: will be able to generate some pressure off the edge,
• 5:47
Speaker 2: and not only that, seal the deal and get home.
• 5:50
Speaker 2: Jay looks hansa player who has made some plays. Hasn't
• 5:54
Speaker 2: gotten to the quarterback obviously, but he's been close. I
• 5:57
Speaker 2: think josh Usha, who has impressed me in his opportunities
• 6:02
Speaker 2: this season, is going to get home. I just have
• 6:05
Speaker 2: that sense that he'll be a player who gets on
• 6:08
Speaker 2: the board and the interior pressure is something that I
• 6:11
Speaker 2: certainly believe the Eagles can hang their hat on this
• 6:13
Speaker 2: week with Jalen Carter if he goes, if not, they
• 6:16
Speaker 2: have enough bodies there to absorb his absence for another week.
• 6:21
Speaker 2: Depending on if the Eagles feel comfortable enough to put
• 6:24
Speaker 2: Jalen Crtter out there. He still have Moro Jomo, He's
• 6:26
Speaker 2: Jordan Davis, Byron Young, and Ty Robinson, who played nineteen
• 6:29
Speaker 2: snaps against the Giants, had a added pass showed some
• 6:33
Speaker 2: good strides in his development.
• 6:37
Speaker 1: But that that's going to be the Eagles defense, and they're.
• 6:39
Speaker 2: Going to have to find a way to contain a
• 6:43
Speaker 2: pretty high octane Vikings pass offense that hasn't necessarily emerged
• 6:47
Speaker 2: at this time. But I think that all the pieces
• 6:50
Speaker 2: and the ingredients are there for them to be able
• 6:52
Speaker 2: to capitalize that the Eagles aren't on their game and
• 6:56
Speaker 2: if they have any sort of regression or return to
• 6:59
Speaker 2: form as they were against the Giants.
• 7:01
Speaker 1: But tight end TJ.
• 7:02
Speaker 2: Hockinson is my X factor in this game for the
• 7:05
Speaker 2: Vikings offensively because we know that Carson Wentz has a
• 7:08
Speaker 2: propensity to target the tight end in the passing game
• 7:11
Speaker 2: and Hockinson isn't necessarily the player that he was earlier
• 7:15
Speaker 2: in his career, but he is somebody who can threaten
• 7:17
Speaker 2: the middle of the field. He can work the seams,
• 7:19
Speaker 2: and he can certainly be a factor in the red
• 7:21
Speaker 2: zone offensively for the Eagles, where I believe that they
• 7:25
Speaker 2: have a clear advantage and advantage on paper. They have
• 7:29
Speaker 2: to go out there and handle business on the field.
• 7:32
Speaker 2: But it's in the running game. Saquon Barkley should be
• 7:36
Speaker 2: able to get one hundred yards on this team. Look
• 7:40
Speaker 2: at the numbers, look at some of the opponents and
• 7:41
Speaker 2: the successes that they've had going up against the Vikings,
• 7:44
Speaker 2: and for all that the Vikings provide in terms of
• 7:48
  Speaker 2: interior pass rush.
• 7:50
Speaker 1: Jalen Redman great story development.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: Second year on drafted free agent out of Oklahoma. He
• 7:54
Speaker 2: has three sacks. Jonathan Allen's there, Javon Hargraves there, but
• 8:01
Speaker 2: Javon hark and none of those. Javon Hargraves not as
• 8:03
Speaker 2: adept at stopping the run, and nor is Jalen Redmond or.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: And Jonathan Allen is solid enough in that area. But
• 8:12
Speaker 1: that's an area where.
• 8:13
Speaker 2: The Eagles offensive line should be able to generate some
• 8:16
Speaker 2: push and create some holes for Saquon Barkley to take
• 8:19
Speaker 2: advantage of that. So that's the key, because if the
• 8:22
Speaker 2: Eagles can get that going, that's going to open up
• 8:25
Speaker 2: the entire menu for Kevin Patulo and Jalen Hurts in
• 8:28
Speaker 2: the passing game to be able to reap the benefits
• 8:31
Speaker 2: there because now you're forcing the Vikings to play you
• 8:34
Speaker 2: a little bit more. Honestly, you're not exactly as predictable
• 8:37
Speaker 2: as you might have been the first six games of
• 8:39
  Speaker 2: the season.
• 8:41
Speaker 1: It all starts with the running game. It all starts
• 8:43
  Speaker 1: up front.
• 8:44
Speaker 2: Foundationally, that's what the Eagles want to do, and I
• 8:46
Speaker 2: believe that they should be able to have their way
• 8:49
Speaker 2: in that facet of the game.
• 8:52

• 12:22
Speaker 3: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
• 12:26
Speaker 2: How about aj Brown versus Isaiah Rogers. They're friends, They're close,
• 12:30
Speaker 2: they were close last season in Philadelphia. Totally different body frames.
• 12:34
Speaker 2: And while Isaiah has been really good at you know,
• 12:40
Speaker 2: his ball skills and he has quickness and good reaction,
• 12:44
Speaker 2: this is an area where I've seen AJ Brown be
• 12:48
Speaker 2: able to impose his.
• 12:50
Speaker 1: Will on smaller corners.
• 12:52
Speaker 2: But I've also seen Isaiah Rogers when he does give
• 12:55
Speaker 2: up plays, it's two bigger bodied wide receivers.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: I saw that, and last summer training camp.
• 13:01
Speaker 2: I've seen it manifest last season whenever when he went in.
• 13:07
Speaker 2: He's really good at breaking on the football and playing
• 13:09
Speaker 2: with anticipation and the instincts, and he's quick.
• 13:12
Speaker 1: We know that. But I'm curious to see if Jalen
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: Hurts throws up.
• 13:16
Speaker 2: Some fifty to fifty balls which become eighty twenty balls
• 13:19
Speaker 2: more often than not whenever A J. Brown's targeted, and
• 13:23
  Speaker 2: that that's that's a matchup that I also believe favors
• 13:26
Speaker 2: the Eagles. Even on those slant routes, you're now forcing
• 13:29
Speaker 2: a smaller corner, a smaller defender to bring aj Aj
• 13:33
Speaker 2: Brown down in the open field. So I don't know
• 13:36
Speaker 2: how how likely that's going to be, but those are
• 13:40
Speaker 2: just some of my matchups that I'm keying in on
• 13:42
Speaker 2: this week. The Vikings are a little bit banged up
• 13:44
Speaker 2: on their offensive line. Sounds like right tackle Brian O'Neil
• 13:47
Speaker 2: is going to be sort of a game time decision.
• 13:50
Speaker 2: If he plays, he's gonna have to wear a brace.
• 13:52
Speaker 2: They're they're going to another center this week. I think
• 13:58
Speaker 2: he is a backup, but he prefer warm well the
• 14:00
Speaker 2: previous week, so the previous time that the Vikings played,
• 14:03
Speaker 2: so they'll be bringing him back out there. Diresol at
• 14:06
Speaker 2: left tackles A solid football player. Donovan Jackson was a
• 14:09
Speaker 2: high draft pick and he was on the injury report
• 14:12
Speaker 2: this week, but it sounds like he's going to be
• 14:13
Speaker 2: good to go. It's gonna be a really fun matchup
• 14:17
Speaker 2: and this could be a really big spot for the Eagles.
• 14:19
Speaker 1: To turn things around offensively.
• 14:21
Speaker 2: And what I can tell you and reiterate from previous
• 14:24
Speaker 2: podcasts this week, the atmosphere of the environment was very positive.
• 14:30
Speaker 2: It was very upbeat. It was very much a team
• 14:32
Speaker 2: searching for solutions rather than as sign blame. They know
• 14:35
Speaker 2: what the what the issues are. What they need to do,
• 14:38
Speaker 2: what they can be when they're fully dialed in, And
• 14:40
Speaker 2: now it's about going out there and enacting those changes.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: They said all the right things.
• 14:44
Speaker 2: Now it's about going out on the field Sunday afternoon
• 14:47
  Speaker 2: and handling business.
• 14:49
  Speaker 1: I'll have something.
• 14:50
Speaker 2: For you guys tomorrow afternoon, in all likelihood, depending on
• 14:54
Speaker 2: if the Eagles elevate anybody from the practice squad and
• 14:57
Speaker 2: what that may ultimately mean in terms of game day.
• 15:01
Speaker 1: But for now, that's going to do it for this
• 15:03
Speaker 1: edition of the Checko Deli.
• 15:04
Speaker 2: I'm Andrew to Checko and I'll catch you on the
• 15:07
  Speaker 2: next one.
• 15:12
  Speaker 1: H
