- 1:58there. I'm I'm a little tired today,
- 2:00but I'm going to try to give you guys as much of an outburst
- 2:04throughout this show. Ladies and gentlemen, he's been
- 2:06waiting calmly and carefully. We're now talking to former 16
- 2:10year vet NBA forward, the one and only Joe Smith.
- 2:15Joe, what's up, buddy? Not much, not much.
- 2:18How you guys doing tonight? Oh.
- 2:20Man, how are we doing tonight? Well, we're Knick fans.
- 2:23We got a chance. Well, I'm a Knick fan.
- 2:25Speedy's a Knick fan. Jabba's a Nebraska fan.
- 2:28He don't care about the Knicks. He don't care about the Knicks.
- 2:32He's he's all about his Nebraska Huskers, and they don't even
- 2:35have a basketball team. So good for him, I mean.
- 2:40I think there's been a tough couple days for you guys then,
- 2:42huh? Oh, yeah, man.
- 2:43I mean, seriously, I I, you know what I want to do?
- 2:45I want to hang Speedy by his underwear.
- 2:47I was so angry about that game. So that's a whole another story.
- 2:50I don't want to get into that, Joe.
- 2:52I don't want to scare you away. There's a lot to get into.
- 2:55No, I understand totally. Yeah, so let's get into your
- 2:59career first. And I know you play with LeBron
- 3:02James and you got a chance to get to know LeBron James on and
- 3:07off the court. What type of player is LeBron
- 3:10James? What type of person is LeBron
- 3:13James? And what type of person off the
- 3:17court? When you get a chance to speak
- 3:20to kids that got a chance to meet LeBron James, what type of
- 3:24player did they say he was like? I mean, first of all, I mean,
- 3:29LeBron, I got a chance to play with him two seasons with the
- 3:33Cavaliers. And when I got there, you know,
- 3:36I played with a lot of guys, Like you said, I played with 12
- 3:38teams. So I played with a lot of
- 3:40different guys. And a lot of guys in the NBA
- 3:44have this, you know, selfies, these selfish qualities.
- 3:46But LeBron is probably one of the most unselfish guys that I
- 3:50played alongside of that's on and off the court.
- 3:54I mean, on the court, you know, he always catch a lot of Flack
- 3:58about passing up, you know, certain shots.
- 4:00So, you know, opportunities and giving it to his teammate.
- 4:04But I mean, that's just the way he plays the game.
- 4:06That's how unselfish he plays the game.
- 4:07So playing alongside him, I learned a lot about the game of
- 4:10basketball. One of the smartest guys.
- 4:13Also, I played with him at a young age.
- 4:16So when we played along alongside each other, the most
- 4:19surprising thing was how smart he was about the NBA game and,
- 4:23and knowing what defenses want to do to him, knowing where guys
- 4:27need to be on the floor in order for the team to be successful,
- 4:30for the offense to work defensively.
- 4:33Probably one of the most active guys that I played alongside of
- 4:37at this position. So I mean, I learned a lot.
- 4:39I learned a lot from LeBron and it was a pleasure playing
- 4:42alongside of them. So you play with another guy
- 4:44that was one of the most electric players in the game,
- 4:45one of the most fun players to watch, and that was Allen
- 4:47Iverson. What was he like on and off the
- 4:49court? Man, there was a joy playing
- 4:52with AI because our story goes back, Our story goes back to
- 4:55childhood. We're from the same area in
- 4:58Hampton Roads, Virginia area, and we played AAU basketball
- 5:01together growing up. So for us to just have the
- 5:04opportunity to be on the same team was something special, you
- 5:08know, in the NBA at that level was something special and
- 5:12something that we talked about during our AAU days.
- 5:14So it was something that we always look forward to,
- 5:18something that we all wish would happen.
- 5:20So when it happened, man, it was like almost a childhood dream
- 5:24come true to be playing alongside somebody that you came
- 5:27up with, somebody from the same area, somebody that you know,
- 5:31the trials and tribulations that he went through because you
- 5:34pretty much saw him up close. So it was.
- 5:36It was a pleasure to be alongside of a man like you say,
- 5:39one of the most electrifying guys for his size in the game.
- 5:44Joe, well, first of all, thanks for joining us.
- 5:46It's our pleasure to have you and thanks for taking the time
- 5:48with us. But no.
- 5:49Thanks for having. Me, I only played for four teams
- 5:52and I, I think what a lot of people don't know and you, you
- 5:56can give them some insight like y'all have like a favorite team
- 5:59or whatever, but like people don't understand what goes into,
- 6:02OK, I'm here for two seasons now.
- 6:03I'm going somewhere else. Like give a little feedback into
- 6:06like as you bounce around and try to continue, you know, your
- 6:10career and how you do it. Give a little insight to people
- 6:13on how, you know, I, I shouldn't say difficult because we're
- 6:17getting paid to do something we love, right?
- 6:19What goes into it of like, Hey, we got to find a house.
- 6:22We got to, you know, hey, what are my kids going to do?
- 6:24Like, what's this going to be? And you obviously playing for as
- 6:27long as you did a 12 different teams, like give a little
- 6:29insight on on how that works. The thing about it, I mean, it's
- 6:33like you said, like you said, it's we don't want to say it's
- 6:36difficult because we are getting paid, but it's difficult.
- 6:42It's difficult. I mean, I remember the very
- 6:43first time I got traded, I was with the Warriors, and this was
- 6:46when I got traded to Philadelphia to play alongside
- 6:49Island and we're planning Portland, Portland, OR.
- 6:53We have the Trail Blazers that night and we have shoot around
- 6:57in the morning. I go to shoot around that
- 6:58morning with the team, with the Warriors, with the team, come
- 7:02back, eat my lunch, take my nap, getting ready for the game.
- 7:05And I wake up from my nap and across the Bottom Line Sports
- 7:08Center, I see that Joe Smith has been traded to the Philadelphia
- 7:1176ers. You know, so it's like it's like
- 7:15things like that to make it difficult.
- 7:17So now you have to pack up from I'm in Portland, OR I have to
- 7:20pack up real quick, get back to the Bay Area to Golden State
- 7:25where I have my home was pack up some things in less than 2448
- 7:30hours. And next thing you know, I have
- 7:32to be back, be out and meet the team in Philadelphia.
- 7:35So that means just things like that that you have to
- 7:37continuously do, especially when you have a family.
- 7:41Do they do they give you like a time frame of when you get
- 7:44traded? Yeah, you have up to 48 hours,
- 7:47OK Yeah, they have up to 48 hours to meet with the team,
- 7:50whether they're on the road or whether they're at home.
- 7:53Fortunately, when I first got traded, Philadelphia was at
- 7:56home. It wasn't like I had to meet him
- 7:58on the road and things would have been a little more
- 8:00difficult to pick up. But we were at home for a few
- 8:03days, so I was able to get a few practices in.
- 8:06But it can be tough, man, especially being traded midway
- 8:09through the season. Being a free agent is a lot more
- 8:12is a little easier, a little easier process.
- 8:16But when you trade it midway through the season, that's
- 8:18that's almost like you have to change things and, and, and, and
- 8:21pick up and go real quick. Learn a new system that you when
- 8:25you get to the new team. And that's something that's
- 8:26always can take some time, you know, trying to pick up a new
- 8:31system, pick up playing alongside new players, pick up
- 8:34what they like to do with different things like that, so.
- 8:37They give you guys a moving stipend.
- 8:39No, everything was yeah, everything.
- 8:41I wish. I wish everything was on our
- 8:44own. So the flights that we had to
- 8:46get from, they did book the flight.
- 8:49They did book the flight, which every team you're getting traded
- 8:52to, they were booked a flight to where they're located, but other
- 8:56than that, everything else comes out of pocket.
- 8:58We are talking a 16 year NBA former basketball superstar.
- 9:03I, I've got to give him a superstar.
- 9:05Joe the Beast Smith. I appreciate.
- 9:08It now you are you are a good player and you averaged 10
- 9:10points a game as an NBA player and you had a chance to play 16
- 9:15years in the NBA. That's a long time.
- 9:17So if you lasted 16. Years.
- 9:18Let's not forget he's the 1st overall pick.
- 9:20Yes, he was. Yes, so you had a really good
- 9:25college career and and you were, you're a good player, man.
- 9:27You're a great player. So I want to get into Nicole
- 9:31Yokich now. You're 610.
- 9:33This guy's one of the greatest big men we've seen in a very,
- 9:36very long time. And everybody compares like you
- 9:39look at all the great players that we've seen over the last
- 9:41last century. I've really the last couple of
- 9:44decades. You talk about Tim Duncan, Karl
- 9:47Malone, all these other guys. What type of player you've
- 9:50watched Nicole Yokich grow into his, you know, his position as a
- 9:54four and as a 5? What type of player would you
- 9:58say he kind of remind you of? And do you think he could go
- 10:02down as the best big man of all time?
- 10:05Most definitely, most definitely.
- 10:07I mean, and it's and the thing about it, everyone wants to try
- 10:09to find a comparison, but to him, I don't think there's no
- 10:12comparison. I think that what he brings to
- 10:15the table is something different that we've ever seen from any
- 10:17big man from at his at his size that we've ever seen in the NBA.
- 10:23His touch around the basket, his passing, his three-point shot,
- 10:27the way he he initiates the offense at times for the
- 10:30Nuggets. And I mean he's just an all
- 10:33around player from he's like a big point guard out there for
- 10:36him at times. So I mean, it's, it's I can't
- 10:39see another big that's doing the things that he's doing ever in
- 10:43the game of basketball. And that's why, you know,
- 10:45arguably he's one of the best to ever do it.
- 10:48And, and, and a lot of people, a lot of NBA, a lot of NBA guys,
- 10:53you know, would agree that he's one of the best to ever do it
- 10:55because he brings so much different things to the table.
- 10:57You look at Tim Duncan and obviously they're different
- 10:59players because Tim Duncan couldn't shoot like him, but he
- 11:02was Mr. Fundamental. So do you look at Nicola Yokich
- 11:07and fundamentally you would say that he kind of reminds you of a
- 11:11Tim Duncan, just a guy that can shoot.
- 11:13Is that more of a comparison than a like a Karl Malone or
- 11:18some somebody of that magnitude? No, that's I mean, if you want
- 11:22to find a comparison, Timmy is Tim Duncan is one of probably
- 11:25the best comparisons you're going to find because, like you
- 11:28said, because of the fundamentals that that they that
- 11:30they both played with the footwork that they both do use
- 11:35the the way they use their body around the basket to find angles
- 11:39and create angles to to get their shots off.
- 11:42Like you said, Yokish, he can stretch the floor further than
- 11:46Timmy, but they both know how to use their use their use, their
- 11:50use their body to to find the right angles.
- 11:53Timmy was longer and to me, you know, obviously with those long
- 11:56arms he was a little bit longer, but neither one of them were
- 11:59very athletic. So you played for a team that is
- 12:06in the NBA Finals in the OKC Thunder.
- 12:08You actually played with them, I believe, in the first year in
- 12:09Oklahoma City. So what was that basketball
- 12:13culture like both on and off the court, being a new team over
- 12:16there at the time? And what are your thoughts of
- 12:17the way Shay Gibbs Alexander's played all year, winning the MVP
- 12:20and having an unbelievable playoffs?
- 12:23I mean, the excitement that he had in Oklahoma City was there
- 12:26from day one when I got there, from when they first, I sat
- 12:30there as a free agent the first year they left, they left
- 12:34Seattle. So I was playing alongside.
- 12:36Kevin Durant was in his second year, Russell Westbrook was in
- 12:39his first year. And you know, we were it was a
- 12:43it was a tough season, kind of a building season.
- 12:46But at the same time, man, that the crowd turned out the way
- 12:49that the way you see it right now in the playoffs, they were
- 12:52just as loud. You know what, whether we were
- 12:54winning or losing, it was just as loud.
- 12:56And and they were excited about having an NBA team down in in
- 12:59Oklahoma City. And that environment hasn't
- 13:02changed throughout the years. Obviously they have more to more
- 13:05to cheer for now, but that that that environment has been there
- 13:10from day one. And what Shea is doing this is
- 13:12incredible, is incredible. I mean, he's, we talk about
- 13:16fundamentals, He's his, his fundamentals as a guard is, is
- 13:21just pure. The mid range game is, is part
- 13:24of the game that that's kind of lost nowadays and he takes
- 13:27advantage of it. He knows how to get to that mid
- 13:29range. He knows how to create a space.
- 13:31He knows how to knock those shots down, whether pressure is
- 13:36on them or not. And, and, and as far as get into
- 13:40the basket and drawing fouls and finishing around the basket,
- 13:43he's one of the best that's done it that I've seen do it in a few
- 13:45years. And Joe, we, we all, we all know
- 13:48this as athletes. You have a place to play and
- 13:51everybody like we always get this question, where is it?
- 13:54And I'm like, I always look at it from like 4 different
- 13:58standpoints like the city locker room, clubhouse, food, and if I
- 14:04actually play good there. That sounds all right.
- 14:10And so of all your years playing, where was where was one
- 14:13place you balled out and where is the place that you love to
- 14:15play? Like Anaheim for me, I loved it
- 14:19right, But I gave up the booty there like I always gave up the
- 14:22booty. But.
- 14:24Where was what? What you gave up what?
- 14:27You gave up the booty. Yeah, I lost games there.
- 14:30Oh, I was about to say. You gave up.
- 14:32The booty. What the hell are you doing over
- 14:34there, Nick? Nick and scream.
- 14:37Of course you would, right? Of course you.
- 14:40Would Joe knew what I meant? I got I.
- 14:42Am a legend butt plug. So where was one of your
- 14:47favorite places to play because you succeeded, But where was
- 14:51another one where it's like, I love playing there, but I just,
- 14:54I just couldn't put it together. My favorite place was Minnesota,
- 15:00playing for the Timberwolves. I played there 4 1/2, almost
- 15:02five years. Like you said, it starts with
- 15:06the city. The city supported us.
- 15:09The city was, was there and, and, and almost like a Oklahoma
- 15:13City type environment for our games.
- 15:17Our team chemistry was great. The, the, the unity that we had
- 15:20on and off the court, myself, Kevin Garnett, Terrell Brandon,
- 15:27Wally Zerbia and we, we had, we had, we had a crew that was
- 15:31that, that, that played hard every night.
- 15:33We went out and won 50 plus games every year.
- 15:36And it was, it was a joy to play up there in Minnesota.
- 15:40Every year we came back more confident, feeling like we had a
- 15:43shot that went in the title because of what we've done
- 15:46throughout the offseason. But it was, it was just a lot of
- 15:50fun and a big pleasure to play in Minnesota with alongside
- 15:53those guys. Another spot, the other place I
- 15:59would say Denver when I played for the Nuggets, yeah, when I
- 16:05played for the Nuggets because I didn't get a lot of time, but
- 16:07they it was it was a situation to where I got traded there
- 16:12midway through the season and we were heavy in the forward
- 16:15position. They were already had a bunch of
- 16:17forwards on the team, Kenyon Barton, Marcus Camby, Nae Nae
- 16:21was on the team, so they had their rotation going already.
- 16:24So it was kind of tough. I only had, you know, the
- 16:28second-half of the season to finish out with them, so it was
- 16:31kind of tough for them to find minutes for me.
- 16:33So that's enough. That's the place I was saying.
- 16:35I felt I could have helped the team but didn't get the
- 16:38opportunity. We are talking to 16 year NBA
- 16:42forward Joe Smith, The Beast as they call him.
- 16:45You know, Joe, you played at a time where in 95 you played
- 16:50against Michael Jordan, you played against Kobe Bryant and
- 16:54you paid, you played against LeBron James.
- 16:56So tell us what type of player of all three, what type of
- 17:00player were all three of those guys?
- 17:02And who was the best player, athletically gifted at, you
- 17:07know, the best player out of all those guys cuz they were all
- 17:10sensational. A lot of people compare these
- 17:13three guys as the greatest athletic basketball players of
- 17:16all time. You played against Michael, you
- 17:18played against Kobe, you played against LeBron.
- 17:20Who was better and why you're? Trying to get this man.
- 17:25In trouble. I'm just, I'm just asking him.
- 17:27He played. Against all three of them.
- 17:29Oh my God. Come on, you know it's just say
- 17:41it, Say it. You know who it is.
- 17:45I mean, obviously, I mean, you know, MJ is the greatest.
- 17:49You know, MJ is the greatest, George is the greatest because,
- 17:54you know, a lot of people think that, you know, if he wouldn't
- 17:57have walked away for two years that he would have won.
- 17:59They would have won eight straight championships.
- 18:01Nine they would have. Won nine I'm.
- 18:03Sorry, they would have won a 99 two in that short year.
- 18:07They would have won nine championships in a row, 100%.
- 18:12So I mean, you know, when when, when you look at it and look at
- 18:14it that way, I would say Mike is the best, probably the most
- 18:18definitely the most athletic. LeBron is just a freight train,
- 18:24man. He's, he's just, he's just
- 18:26strong. He's physical.
- 18:27He he knows the game, he's athletic and and it's just tough
- 18:34to say who's the best man. Is it?
- 18:36Well, you just said it was. You said it was Michael Jordan,
- 18:39but who's the 2nd? Deputy that who's the 2nd 70
- 18:42that he's been playing with the 40, you know, playing at 40 the
- 18:45way he's playing man, it's it's it's it's hard to say.
- 18:49I mean MJ definitely the best, but Mike, I mean LeBron is
- 18:52right. It's like a close second.
- 18:54Kobe it's Kobe, man He was he he was a monster out there on the
- 18:58floor. Got it.
- 19:00Just would not be denied. One of those guys that, you
- 19:04know, obviously you put the ball in his hands, you carry your
- 19:07team anywhere. And you know, he proved that
- 19:10year in and year out and we knew he had the same attitude and the
- 19:16same determination that Jordan had.
- 19:17So, you know, I think he got a lot of it from, you know,
- 19:23watching MJ and learning from MJ.
- 19:26But he definitely was an animal out.
- 19:27There he was a mimic of Michael Jordan.
- 19:29He really was. He was the exact mimic of
- 19:32Michael Jordan. That's why they were close.
- 19:34He looked up to Michael Jordan. So did LeBron James.
- 19:36LeBron could say whatever he wants.
- 19:37He wore #23 Kobe Bryant said that when he was in high school.
- 19:42We wore #23 Why do you think he was wearing #23?
- 19:45It was because of Michael Jordan.
- 19:47So there's no lie to that. But first of all, I want to give
- 19:51a shout out to Nathan because Nathan was the one that hooked
- 19:54us up with each other and Nathan is our PR manager.
- 19:58How did you meet Nathan and what type of guy did you like?
- 20:02What type of guy was Nathan when you met him?
- 20:07We was at Fanatics Specs Fanatics Specs last year up in
- 20:12New York, me and my business partner Tommy and we walking

- 29:09Get a picture. You see?
- 29:11Nathan. Nathan.
- 29:14For business opportunities. Oh, business opportunities,
- 29:16well. Why don't you watch to work with
- 29:18LeBron James? Association.
- 29:20Yeah, that's, you know, what we got to do.
- 29:26We got to get LeBron on this show because have we had to get
- 29:28LeBron on this all right? Listen.
- 29:30No chance. That'll never happen.
- 29:32That that's not true. Why wouldn't LeBron come on this
- 29:35show? We'll have a lot of fun.
- 29:36You don't know the power of the blue blazer.
- 29:39I. Was by the way, I was with last
- 29:42week and I was with Allen Iverson.
- 29:43Yes, at the shop Dynasty Sports, we did the grand opening.
- 29:46And yeah, he tied him to a leash.
- 29:48He tied him to a leash. I'm putting you on a leash now.
- 29:53That was a Philadelphia, Yeah. Oh, OK.
- 29:56Nice, nice, nice. Joe, I farted.
- 29:59Joe, by the way, we also, we also, we Errol and I do an FM
- 30:03show and we had a former Co host Eric Coleman, who's ex NFL
- 30:06player that said James Harden was better than Alan Iver.
- 30:09Yeah. He's on drugs, he's on.
- 30:11Drugs. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:13He literally said that. He's no, no, no, no, no, no, not
- 30:17even close. Not even close.
- 30:19Joe, before we let you go, I would like my son's a sophomore
- 30:22in college and he's playing baseball, but I wanted to get
- 30:26your take from from somebody's point of view that, you know,
- 30:29played a long time and and played around and with some of
- 30:32the greatest to ever do it. Do you think like kids now when
- 30:36they become so sports specific, it either hurts them or do you
- 30:42think it helps to play multiple sports to actually be better at
- 30:46what your sport is? Because I see so many now, it's
- 30:49like, OK, if they don't go to this camp and this camp only in
- 30:51this sport and don't do multiple sports where it can help in, you
- 30:56know, footwork and, you know, just understanding.
- 30:58Do you see that kind of like how it's turned from back in the day
- 31:03because we played everything back in the day.
- 31:05Exactly. They're sports specific, so have
- 31:08you, have you seen that kind of change in the game a little bit?
- 31:11I've seen a little bit of change, change with it, but I
- 31:15really encourage for all parents, the parents, because I
- 31:18have my basketball Academy, but I I encourage all parents to let
- 31:22their kids play multiple sports. I mean, I played football and
- 31:25basketball growing up and after I got into the NBAI wish I would
- 31:29have played more soccer to play some soccer as well.
- 31:32So, I mean, it's for, like you said, for the footwork purposes,
- 31:35but I mean, I, I encourage all parents to let you play multiple
- 31:39sports and, and, and, and kind of use those, use those sports
- 31:46to either figure out which one you really love or figure out or
- 31:51use those sports to get better with the sport that you're
- 31:53finally going to go for. Joe, I I got something for you
- 31:58to hear. Breaking news, I got to go back
- 32:00off now. You got to go back off wet.
- 32:07He's got to go whack off now. Do you want to jerk me off?
- 32:17Breaking news. Breaking news, Do you want to
- 32:21jerk me off? Joe, sorry if we scarred you
- 32:32dog. It's.
- 32:32Gonna be really breaking news if she breaks it.
- 32:37Butt plug, butt plug. Yum Yum.
- 32:44Anyway. Gin and Tonic 10 I got it.
- 32:47I've got it here. Here's the gin and tonic.
- 32:49I need a gin and tonic. I'm going to have a heart
- 32:58attack, man. Oh my God.
- 33:01Anyways, Joe, we. We got to get you on the show
- 33:04again. We had a lot of fun with you.
- 33:06I hope you had a. Really good time.
- 33:08And we, we like to have fun. But before we let you go there,
- 33:11your agent is a big fan of Jabbas.
- 33:13Am I? Am I mistaken?
- 33:14That so Joe Joe Tommy said he's a big fan of Jabba.
- 33:20So he's when I told him that we're bringing you on the show
- 33:23and I told him that Jabba works for the show.
- 33:25He's he got excited. He's he's a big Yankee fan and.
- 33:27Yeah, you. Know Tommy's a big how about
- 33:29this, how about this? He told me, he told me.
- 33:32That he's a big Jabba fan. Too.
- 33:34How about how? About this he's always been for
- 33:36a Yankees fan for years. How about this?
- 33:38We'll we'll get something set up and we'll have Jabba send you a
- 33:41signed jersey for your friend. Oh, man, that would be awesome.
- 33:45I appreciate. I would appreciate that.
- 33:47I'm quite sure he would love that, yeah.
- 33:48Jabba is that cool? Is that cool, Joe?
- 33:50You can send us a signed basketball and Jabba and we'll.
- 33:54We'll I got jersey, I got a jersey I can send as well.
- 33:56All right, there you go. Jabba gets a jersey.
- 33:59He can hang it up on his beautiful look.
- 34:01At this man, look at this throwback right here.
- 34:03I see. Yeah.
- 34:07He's always looking down. He's always looking down.
- 34:09I wonder what he was looking at. I was young, dumb and full of.
- 34:14Cock. I'm sure he was.
- 34:15Maybe he was. Looking for some shrimp
- 34:18cocktails? No, he was looking for this.
- 34:20This makes my. Bed.
- 34:21Do a job. I've been there.
- 34:24This makes my pecker hard. You give it.
- 34:30You give a 19 year old $1,000,000.
- 34:32You can go ahead and go do some. You just made my nipples hard.
- 34:39All right, All right, Joe, I don't want to scare you off any
- 34:41further. We really appreciate the time
- 34:43you're. Fantastic.
- 34:44You want to bring Tommy here real quick or no?
- 34:46Too late, right? Is he on?
- 34:47I don't know. Is he on?
- 34:49Should I text? Let me, let me, let me see if
- 34:52he's available. Is Tommy available?
- 34:54Do you think he's available? He is available.
- 34:57You might be listening, I don't know.
- 34:58Oh, Tommy Thomas. Oh, Thomas.
- 35:01Come on. Oh, Thomas boy.
- 35:03Hey, but Joe before if, if we get him on like let us know what
- 35:06you're doing and, and how we can, we can get involved or our
- 35:09listeners can get involved in the stuff that you're doing.
- 35:11Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:13So right now I have my basketball Academy, Joe Smith
- 35:15Basketball Academy and where where I'm doing, I'm right now
- 35:20in the Norfolk, VA, Virginia area.
- 35:22But it's something that I've been doing around the country as
- 35:25many places I can, just filming, mentoring, training, working
- 35:29with skills and development without you and giving back to
- 35:32the community that way. We talked about fundamentals
- 35:36earlier and I think that's something that we're losing a
- 35:39lot of with the game of basketball over here.
- 35:41So I'm kind of taking it back to the fundamentals with the kid
- 35:43and really with the kids and teaching them how to play the
- 35:46game the right way, mentoring them on what they need to do
- 35:49and, and, and you know, how, how to work your insurance and outs
- 35:55of life. You know, pretty much, you know,
- 35:57some of the stuff that I've been through, you know, just to, to
- 36:01to tell them the stories and, and trying to teach them the
- 36:05things what not to do, what to do and what not to do.
- 36:08Tommy's my business partner. He has AIT company and you know,
- 36:12we're business partners. So we're we're bringing sports
- 36:15and IT together for the community.
- 36:18He has a software development firm company, you know, and they
- 36:21do all types of stuff with software development and things
- 36:24like that. So we're bringing that's
- 36:27obviously for the kids that may be interested in sports, but may
- 36:32not feel like they have the talent to actually play, but
- 36:35still want to be a part of it and, and still want to be around
- 36:38sports. So we're using that as well to
- 36:41teach them how to be broadcasters, how to be
- 36:45commentators, hammer men and women, how to do different
- 36:47things around the sport. So we're, we're, we're trying
- 36:50to, we're not trying, but we're bringing a total, total project
- 36:57together where for, for all the youth and, and, and, and we're
- 37:01doing it right here in Virginia right now.
- 37:03Have a cap coming up in July at the Virginia Beach Sports
- 37:07Center. Why?
- 37:08Why don't you, why don't you let us know?
- 37:10Maybe we'll, we'll, we'll take a ride over there and we'll, we'll
- 37:13do something live over there for you guys.
- 37:15Oh man, that'll be awesome. You have July 7th through the
- 37:1711th is the first session, and then the second session is July
- 37:2121st through 25th at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in
- 37:25Virginia Beach. Is there Joe, is there a website
- 37:27where they can they can look and go for people in the area?
- 37:30Joesmithbasketball.com and you give you all the information
- 37:35right there where you can register, you can sign your kid
- 37:37up. If people looking to sponsor
- 37:39kids, you can sponsor kids right there and we'll get kids out
- 37:43there to the camp you. Have something?
- 37:45You have something in August, right?
- 37:48August, we have the ACC Celebrity Golf tournament and
- 37:51we're also looking for sponsorships and that we can
- 37:54partner with for that is pretty much about ACC legends.
- 37:59The guys that played in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
- 38:03We got guys from Maryland, we have guys from North Carolina,
- 38:07Clemson, Virginia, Duke, all from all different schools that
- 38:12we're doing. Last year was just basketball,
- 38:13this year's basketball and football.
- 38:16But it's a celebrity golf tournament and looking to raise
- 38:19money for good For for, for good for good thing, yeah.
- 38:26Yeah, well, we really appreciate the time, Joe, and we'll
- 38:29definitely get you on again. We'll reach out to you and we'll
- 38:31have some fun, man. We really appreciate all the

- 40:33It's going to be a little bit different than we normally do it
- 40:36though. Guys, The big thing is we don't
- 40:41have enough players to play it. If it was just basketball, we
- 40:44need 25 players. Duty.

- 41:13Gilgeous, Alexander, $5 player, Halliburton 4.
- 41:16Then we have Lou Dort at 3, Nebhardt at 2, and TJ McConnell
- 41:21had a little bit better stats than Caruso last series, so we
- 41:24put him in at 1. Going to forwards got Siakam
- 41:29leading the way, followed by Jaylen Williams.
- 41:31Then you got Chet, Aaron Nesmith and Obie Topin, everyone's
- 41:35favorite $1.00 pick at $1.00 again.
- 41:38And then this is where it got. That's weird.
- 41:40There's only so many centers and there's only so many goalies.
- 41:43So I put them together. So let me just tell you how the
- 41:45goal for the hockey scoring goes for goalies.
- 41:49You get 5 points for a win, you get points.
- 41:55You know what, I covered it up. You get 5 points for a shut out.
- 41:59If you give up a goal, you lose 3 points, but each save is .6
- 42:03points, so lots of shots on goal benefits you if he's not giving
- 42:07a lot of them up and obviously a win is a big deal.
- 42:10Not a lot of shutouts going to happen in this series probably.
- 42:13But we have Babrovsky ahead of Skinner because Florida Tech,
- 42:17you know, defending champs. And we have Miles Turner at
- 42:19center, followed by Hardenstein and Thomas Bryant was probably
- 42:23the best center left after that. Then we're going straight hockey
- 42:26defense. Evan Bouchard, $5 player, Eck
- 42:29Blad for four, Seth Jones 3, Eck home for two and Walman, Jake
- 42:34Walman for a buck. And then centers and wings.
- 42:36Connor Mcdavid's got to be the top guy, followed by Dry sidle.
- 42:39Sam Bennett, Matt and Chuck and Barkov round it out.
- 42:45So again, if any of you guys want to come in in turns and
- 42:48play, you can't. If not, that's fine too.
- 42:50But we're going to get started. I'm going to, we're going to
- 42:54pick our teams. So Nathan, you're here.
- 42:58Why don't you? Start My Binky is bigger than
- 43:00yours. All right, let's.
- 43:09See. The point guard?
- 43:10Go ahead, I'm going to. Do pick somebody.
- 43:14I'm going to do, I'm going to do give us an Alexander.
- 43:20OK. For small for power, small
- 43:23forward. Aaron Naismith, center.
- 43:31Let's see. Center of goalie, you know.
- 43:34Oh, center of goalie. OK, I'm going to do Matthew to
- 43:40Chuck. All right, Matthew, Chuck, OK.
- 43:42Yeah, so you skipping goalie, you're going all the way to the
- 43:45end. Yeah, OK.
- 43:47And now you have the 2 middle ones.
- 43:49You have center, center and goal.
- 43:51How many? So what does he have?
- 43:524-6 bucks left? Yes, yes.
- 43:55I'm going to do, I'm going to do, Miles Turner.
- 44:02OK. And then?
- 44:06So you can go Seth Jones or any of the guys under under him I'm.
- 44:12Going to go Seth Jones. All right, so there it is.
- 44:16We got Jones. Interesting.
- 44:20I'm going to show you your roster.
- 44:21Nathan, are you a little lost with is that blue blazer getting
- 44:24in, getting in the way of that brainias?
- 44:27So Nathan's got Shay Naismith. Turner.
- 44:31Seth Jones and Matt Kochuk. All right, moving on.
- 44:36Let's go to Tommy. All right, let me see this list
- 44:43again. An automatic is going to have to
- 44:46be Shay, Gildrus, Alexander for me taking them as my point
- 44:50guard, then Chet Holmgren or I'm going to have to go Jaylen
- 44:57Williams for small forward, power forward, then I'm going
- 45:00with Hartenstein, Wallman, Anka, Chuck.
- 45:09Make sure that math. Works speedy.
- 45:11I should have like $1.00 left too.
- 45:13Wallman. You always have money left when
- 45:16you do this time. He's just saving for a rainy
- 45:18day, you know, right? Yeah, he's saving.
- 45:21He's saving too with that. All right, that's interesting.
- 45:26OK, let's move. Let's show you your team right
- 45:30here. We got Shay, Jalen, Williams,
- 45:32Hardenstein, Wallman and Kachuk. All right, let's, I'll, I'll go
- 45:37next and let me just put it back up.
- 45:41All right. I actually haven't thought about
- 45:45it whatsoever. I am also going to go with Shay
- 45:49in that column. So I think it was prohibitive
- 45:53favorite. So that's five.
- 45:55I am going to go then with, oh, this is a tough one.
- 46:03I think I'm going to go with Chet at that point.
- 46:08So that's 8:00. I'm going to take Hardenstein.
- 46:20So I got 5 left right, speedy. Yes.
- 46:29OK, All right. I'm going to go a little
- 46:32different than everyone else, just to be different.
- 46:34I'm going to take Ekblad and I'm going to take Barkhov.
- 46:37Damn it. All right, so let me show you my
- 46:43team. So here it is.
- 46:46We got Shay Shet hard and going heavy with the Thunder Ekblad
- 46:51and bark off. All right boys, moving on to.
- 46:54Speedy. All right, give me McDavid.
- 46:56This is good. Yeah.
- 47:00I'm also going to go chat as that gives me 8.
- 47:06I will do. Give me Eck.
- 47:10Home on defense is 10. I'll do Dort and Hartenstein.
- 47:20All right, Dort and Hartenstein. So wait, that's 611.
- 47:28I know. Did I do that wrong?
- 47:30No, I have two left. Oh.
- 47:31You're right. You good with that?
- 47:34Or you. Want to no wait, I think I
- 47:35miscalculated. No, I can do.
- 47:38Three with Dort, 6 with Chet, 2 with Harden.
- 47:41So 8 with Hardenstein. Eckholm is 10 and McDavid is
- 47:44five. That's. 15 Oh, it is OK.
- 47:46I had to do all right, OK. Yeah, yeah, you're good.
- 47:48All right, So just to show it to everybody, again, just like we
- 47:51said, Dort, Chet Hardenstein, Eckholm and Connor McDavid over
- 47:55to Jabba. I'm going to go Halliburton.
- 48:01Screw that guy. I know, but it's going to give
- 48:05me points. I'm not I'm not.
- 48:06I'm not going off of off of head.
- 48:10Then I'm going to go Naismith. I'm going to go Skinner.
- 48:18Yeah, I was waiting for someone to go goalie.
- 48:22So that's 10 now I'm going to go oh so I got 5 left.
- 48:33Yep. Lee.
- 48:37It all comes down to this one shot.
- 48:39One chance I'm. Gonna go dry sidle and then I
- 48:45got to take Walman. All right, so dry.
- 48:48I like that pick. So we got Walman and dry sidle.
- 48:57All right, let me show you the deal here.
- 49:03There it is. Albert and Nesmith, Skinner,
- 49:06Walman and Dry Sidle. All right, I think Jake said he
- 49:10wanted to pop in, so Jake's going to get give us his
- 49:12grouping before we go to URL. OK, Right here.
- 49:15What do you got, Jake? All right, so starting off, I'm
- 49:18going to need a big guy team leader.
- 49:20I'm going to go with my center, going with the leader, Conor
- 49:23McDavid last year. Smythe later, despite being on
- 49:25the losing team, he's awful blood going to be on a revenge
- 49:28tour this year. So comic David's going to lead
- 49:30my team. I'm going to try to bulk up my
- 49:32defense here. So I'm going to go with Seth
- 49:34Jones and Isaiah Hardenstein, some big guys who, you know,
- 49:38maybe don't get as much of the shine but are going to be grit
- 49:40and grind and, you know, give a lot of effort.
- 49:42And then for my small forward, I'm going to go rock with J Dub
- 49:45Jaylen Williams. He's going to be my backup help
- 49:49for scoring, you know, and take that pressure off McDavid a
- 49:51little bit. And then to round it out,
- 49:54someone who can handle the ball and pass the rock and needed
- 49:57where it is. Current Indiana Pacer Butt
- 49:59Sixers legend TJ McConnell. All right.
- 50:03That was a very confident, confident pick by Jake.
- 50:06I like it. We got TJ McConnell leading him
- 50:09off, Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hardenstein, Seth Jones and
- 50:13Connor McDavid. All right, over to Errol finally
- 50:18for our last one. All right, I'm going to go
- 50:20Tyrese Halliburton. I'm going to go check Holmgrim.
- 50:26I'm going to go, I'm going to go Isaiah Harnstein.
- 50:31What do I got now? That's 9.
- 50:34I'm going to go. I'm going to go Connor McDavid
- 50:39and I'm going to go Jake. What is it, Wallman?
- 50:42Wallman, There you go. That's where I go.
- 50:46And Wallman? Yes.
- 50:49All right, and I'll just show it to you before we finish up with
- 50:51the music that's right here. And there's your team,
- 50:55Halliburton, Chet Hardenstein, Waldman and Connor McDavid.
- 50:59So again, guys, if you haven't played before, the winner of
- 51:03this game receives the compliment chorus from all of
- 51:06the losers. It has to be at least 51% honest
- 51:11compliments. My pinky is bigger than yours.
- 51:15Right, at least 51% of the time. Errol gets to like 2728% on a
- 51:20good day. But he's won a lot recently.
- 51:23So we'll see if we someone can knock him off, guys.
- 51:26And if you lose and you can't complain about it, you got to
- 51:29save your tears. You got to save something.
- 51:33By the way, Joe Smith said it was a pleasure and he enjoyed
- 51:36the interview. Well, we, we had a lot of fun
- 51:38with him. He was really, really cool.
- 51:40Really, really nice. And, you know, he had a lot of
- 51:44fun. With this, could you could you
- 51:45imagine like all of our careers and like and what but he got to
- 51:50play with against and with MJ, LeBron, Kobe like that pretty
- 51:55crazy. That's crazy.
- 51:57He he had a great career too. 16 years in the NBA is a great
- 52:00career. That's a long.
- 52:02And if you're averaging double digits over your career, I don't
- 52:05care if it's 10/20/30, like that's awesome.
- 52:08And and to go on the fact that you're the 1st overall pick,
- 52:13like there, there's some shit that comes with that.
- 52:15We have our golf clap of the day.
- 52:19This deserves a golf clap. No doubt.
- 52:21Golf clap, Golf clap. Ladies and gentlemen, our golf
- 52:26clap of the day goes to a sports Madden NFL 26 as they choose,
- 52:34say Quan Barkley, his reverse hurdle.
- 52:38Do we remember that? That wonderful hurdle to be the
- 52:42front cover of Madden NFL 26, I want to tell you.
- 52:47How they reenacted it. Yes, yes, they it's, it's
- 52:50unbelievable. It's unbelievable.
- 52:51By the way, Saquon Barkley is this isn't the first time and
- 52:56this won't be the last time. I think we'll see Saquon Barkley
- 52:59on a front cover on a many, many different football games.
- 53:02This is he. There's two pictures that are
- 53:05going to be pressed for Madden football and Madden NFL 26 for
- 53:10this is just one of them of Saquon Barkley.
- 53:12Congratulations to Saquon Barkley.
- 53:14He's had a wonderful. He had a wonderful season.
- 53:17Would have broken Eric Dickerson's record if he really
- 53:20played the last. I would really played the third
- 53:22and fourth quarter of that game. I think he breaks the record.
- 53:25He's had a sensational year of football and he's one of the
- 53:29more over over underachievers we've seen.
- 53:33I say over underachievers because I don't I I just think
- 53:36that he would have been an overachiever if he stayed with
- 53:39the the Giants. He's an underachiever because he
- 53:42played for the Eagles, if that makes any sense to you guys,
- 53:44because I think he. You're a fan of the Eagles.
- 53:47Why would you say that? Because I think so.
- 53:49That's what I think. I'm an Eagles fan.
- 53:51Do you do you think there's the Madden curse?
- 53:53That's. Still no, I don't.
- 53:54I don't believe in that. He doesn't deserve that.
- 53:56I know, I hope not. It is cool that it's he's #26
- 54:00it's Madden 26. That you don't believe in it
- 54:02just. Kind of lines up, you know?
- 54:04He's an over underachiever if that makes any sense to you.
- 54:07But I, I love Saquan Barkley. I love that he was wearing an
- 54:11Eagles jersey this year and I I love that he won a Super Bowl
- 54:14with the Eagles and not with the New York Giants.
- 54:16Makes me very, very happy as I root the eagles on go Eagles go.
- 54:23Thank you to Joe Smith for joining us.
- 54:25The beast himself. It was fun, it was great.
- 54:28So I I was, it was really exciting having him on.
- 54:31I'm sure he'll remember this interview for a very, very long
- 54:34time. So thank you.
- 54:35And Nathan, of course, you know, giving us and by the way, shout
- 54:39out to Nathan for getting us Joe Smith.
- 54:41He's working so very hard. So thank you to Nathan.
- 54:45I'd like to thank all the fans that are following us on
- 54:48obviously blue wire. We're not on blue wire yet guys.
- 54:51So I know a lot of fans probably have gone on blue wire and
- 54:54trying to look for us. Blue wire is working on it.
- 54:56I did speak to blue wire. They it should be up in the next
- 54:59week or so. It usually takes a little while
- 55:02for it to go up on their, you know, on their website.
- 55:04So just relax. It'll be up there again.
- 55:09Thank you to all the fans on all our social medias from Spotify,
- 55:12Spotify video, Apple, Twitter, TikTok, whatever the hell you
- 55:17call it X Instagram, all the social media platforms.
- 55:21Thank you for all the fans following us, keep following us
- 55:24and again, our YouTube channel growing as well.
- 55:27And, and, and we're going to be working on more of the YouTube
- 55:30channel over the next couple of weeks.
- 55:32So thank you to all the fans and, and by the way, who do we
- 55:35have on on Thursday? All right, joining the show, 915
- 55:38Hall of Fame safety Leroy Butler, also the guy who
- 55:41invented the Lambo Leap. He was a 2022 Hall of Fame
- 55:44inductee. And yes, the guy who invented
- 55:47the Lambo Leap in in the late 90s.
- 55:49Super Bowl champion, A four time Pro Bowl safety.
- 55:52And that was the I was actually going to go to Ohio to watch
- 55:57Revis be inducted that year, and we were going to go with Josh.
- 56:00Remember that. Yeah, I remember that.
- 56:02We were going to go to that that Hall of Fame and Klecko and Joe
- 56:07Klecko and Revis went in that year.
- 56:10But Leroy was one of the more underrated, one of the greatest
- 56:12safeties ever played the game. So it's cool.
- 56:15It's kind of cool getting him on the show.
- 56:17It's going to be a great interview and he doesn't really
- 56:19interview a lot. He doesn't really go on a lot of
- 56:21shows. So it's pretty cool that he
- 56:23wants to come on the show and talk about his career and being
- 56:27inducted to the Hall of Fame. I think there's only been like 6
- 56:30safeties ever been inducted into the Hall of Fame, and he's one
- 56:33of them. It's a pretty cool story, so
- 56:35it's great to have him on. I'm looking forward to getting
- 56:37Leroy on the show. I'm sure job is, I'm sure all of
- 56:40you guys will be very intrigued to hear some of the stories that
- 56:43he has in his past and what he's doing in the future with all the
- 56:47different organizations he's working with.
- 56:49All right, that's it. Thank you, Nick.
- 56:51By the way, congratulations to Nick winning his first coaching
- 56:55job. Oh, by the way, so Golf Club for
- 56:57old Nicky, 17 strikeouts for the old Nick boy.
- 57:01It wasn't him throwing the ball. That's true.
- 57:03Are you surprised? No, I'm not surprised.
- 57:06You're always trying to find a way to, you know, stand out and
- 57:09you're going to be a good coach. You're a good you're a good
- 57:11dude. So I, I, I know I don't expect
- 57:14anything but greatness for the old wood boy as we Hold on, hold
- 57:19on. I'm going to figure.
- 57:20Breaking news Goody has no Woody.
- 57:23All right, that's it for our show.
- 57:24Ladies and gentlemen. Good night.
- 57:26We'll talk to you Thursday it. Is the worldwide sports radio
- 57:31network.
