- 2:15A little bit later on Putnam County Clerk and candidate for Westerndindia Secretary of
- 2:19State Brian Wood is going to be stopping by the studio. Also made news,
- 2:23actually I guess it made news Monday, but all the press went out
- 2:27about it yesterday. That is, the scooters are coming to Charleston pretty soon.
- 2:30You're gonna be able to rent scooters with certain restrictions. And want to
- 2:35go all over all that for you. A little bit later on the show,
- 2:38I'll plus your calls and taks to welcome and I want to welcome him,
- 2:40my good friend and yours from the Shape Shop, Millie Snyder. How
- 2:45are you, dear? I'm well, thank you. I want a scooter.
- 2:47I could see you on a scooter. I could definitely see you right
- 2:52now. Huh, All right, all right, now, when are they
- 2:54coming? Well, let's see was officially voted on Monday. I think within
- 3:00him like a month or so. And let me just say this. Emmett
- 3:01Pepper, who was the city council person that was really behind all of this,
- 3:06is going to be on talk line with Hobby to talk about it,
- 3:07coming up those little programming notes. H And it's been on this show talking
- 3:12about it in the passage when statewide with it with Hobby coming up a little
- 3:15bit later on. So, oh, I can just see it right now.
- 3:17I can do it. I know you can. I have no doubt
- 3:21you can do anything you want to do. Yes, you're looking lovely today,
- 3:23by the way. I always shuld throw that in there. Thank you
- 3:25very much. All right, So what's new with you? What do you
- 3:28got? What do you got fortune? Well, of course I want to
- 3:30tell you that we are just absolutely thrilling people every single day at the Shape
- 3:35Shop because we've added a grab and go to our large array of wonderful things.
- 3:43Because you know, a lot of people thought we were just a rap
- 3:45shop, but we are so much more than that. Oh yeah, and
- 3:47we are making things like stuffed portobellos with a half a chicken breast, stuffed
- 3:55zucchini boats. Gosh, there's just so many things that I can't even name
- 4:01them. We have some pasta dishes. We have things that people we can't
- 4:05even keep it in stock, and people are calling ahead. Oh, we
- 4:10also have salmon, and we do a number of things with the salmon,
- 4:14and some people are calling ahead. Oh I know you love that. I
- 4:17do. I love salmon, one of my favorite foods. So some people
- 4:20are calling ahead and they're ordering it, and then the girls can't even get
- 4:26it to the cooler to put in because people are standing their weighting in line.
- 4:30And it's meal prep at its finest. So everything we make is healthy.
- 4:33Okay. So now when you say it's grabbing go, I mean on
- 4:36these meals like pasta that you know. I mean, so they you just
- 4:40take them home and you warm them, take them home and you warm them
- 4:43up in the microwave. We have directions depending on what you want to do,
- 4:46on your skill level, your skill level and how you turn on your
- 4:50microwave. Now, do you have grabbing go items that are like ready to
- 4:55eat, I mean like your wraps and sandwich You do things like that,
- 4:57you do know? The raps are made to order, okay, unless you're
- 5:00buying it off the truck, where we have to make it a few hours
- 5:04ahead of time, but never longer than that, although I will tell you
- 5:09tomorrow we're going to be at Friedo lay in Tay's Valley facility there, beautiful
- 5:14facility. Yes, so I understand, and it will be our first time.
- 5:16We were invited for tomorrow. But in some cases we make the raps
- 5:21on the truck. But in when there's a lot of people standing in line,
- 5:27we have to have several of them ready to go, but we don't
- 5:30make them more than a couple of hours ahead, right, right, good
- 5:33stuff? And what about pizzas and things like that? Is that something?
- 5:36We have a pizza oven. We have a two tier pizza oven on the
- 5:40truck. Yeah, I mean, I know those are very popular. When
- 5:42you go, I will say, get more of the grabbing gol. I
- 5:44mean, is that something you can do with the We haven't do that.
- 5:46They haven't done that yet. Okay, we can take it out of the
- 5:47freezer and put it in our oven while you're sitting and ye, but you
- 5:50have to give us, you know, at least ten minutes, right,
- 5:55yeah, I mean, you know most people don't want to eat them frozen.
- 5:57Well, and this they can stay home and do that, you know,
- 5:59I mean, and this is not and when we talk about this is
- 6:02not fast food that you do I mean not. I mean it's it's food
- 6:05that's fast, but not fast food. Does that make any exactly because fast
- 6:09food is dangerous for your body. It has stuff in it that we haven't
- 6:13yet identified. And you know, we're actually getting smarter as people. Look,
- 6:18we can come up with a one, so surely we have to pay
- 6:23attention to what she's talking about, artificial intelligence, not a one steak sauce.
- 6:26By the way. Oh yeah, but how do I say? Well,
- 6:29yeah, oh, excuse me, that's all good, it's all good.
- 6:31I just learned. We were just talking about that before the show.
- 6:34We have yes, yeah, so yeah, there's what were you asking me.
- 6:41We were talking about the grabb and Go and things like that, and
- 6:44what was new at the Shape Shop, and you were telling me about your
- 6:46adventure that you're going over to my part of the world over in the in
- 6:48Tays Valley tomorrow over at the new Freedom Lay facilities. I think you were
- 6:53talking about fast food. That's what we were talking about, fast food food.
- 6:55More and more people are realizing that fast food has ingredients that causes us
- 7:00problems in the quality of our life, and that is something. We can't
- 7:06blow it off anymore. We have to pay attention to it. And I
- 7:11don't know that in some of the fast food places that it's really chicken.
- 7:15We haven't really identified that, and I'm concerned about that. We are what
- 7:18we eat. And that's not just a Millie snyderism. That's just not something
- 7:24that I read and I'm repeating it. It's true, and I want people
- 7:29to pay attention better attention to what they're eating. Fruits and vegetables are important.
- 7:34You know, some research was done on people who died hundreds and hundreds
- 7:40of years ago, and they didn't have any anomalies on their skeletal because in
- 7:46those years, people ate off the land. They didn't eat process they didn't
- 7:49have chemicals, they didn't have preservatives, they weren't invented yet. And that's
- 7:56something to think about in terms of all the things. The maladies that we
- 8:01have, it comes from. It's not just because your grandmother had arthritis.
- 8:07She didn't eat healthy either. And we have the opportunity to take stock and
- 8:13look at what we're eating. And yes, I have concerns. You know,
- 8:18I came to Charleston with something that I never never doubted would be what
- 8:26it became, and that is weight Watchers. A lot of people think I
- 8:30was born here. I apologize for not being born here. I love Charleston,
- 8:33but as they say, well, I'm not from here. But I
- 8:35got here as quickly as I could, exactly, and I came at twenty
- 8:39seven. I would have come sooner, but I was getting educated in the
- 8:43process. And I love Charleston and West Virginia has Here's where I grew up,
- 8:50and I love everything about West Virginia. And nothing was more of a
- 8:56love to me, in addition to my spouse and my children. Nothing was
- 9:03more of a love to me than what I came here to do, and
- 9:05that's weight Watchers. And when I couldn't do that anymore, and you know,
- 9:11I sold weight Watchers back to weight Watchers almost ten years ago. I
- 9:16had a way three years and then I opened my own group, which is
- 9:20Mediterranean Eating, and that's clean, healthy, wonderful food. I have success
- 9:24coming out of that meeting. One lady in particular is down seventy two pounds.
- 9:30Wow. And that's a major life experience. But what I'm wanting to
- 9:33say is I'm worried about what has become of weight watchers because meetings don't exist,
- 9:41and now they're going with medications. Yeah, I read that something about
- 9:46that the other day, and I'm telling you that that's wrong because there's nothing
- 9:50good at the end of that. We still are people who need to be
- 9:56educated. We need to be inspired, we need to be encouraged, we
- 10:01need to be guided. And group support has never been a bad thing.
- 10:05It's always been that thing that gets you over the hump. Like they say,
- 10:09Wednesday is hump day, Well, whatever day you go to a meeting,
- 10:15it kind of helps you put the past week behind you and then you
- 10:18have a new beginning for the week, and there's some accountability. The accountability
- 10:24is so important, and so I want people to look up my group.
- 10:31Yeah this might sound like a commercial, but it's not intended. I want
- 10:35you to know group support and that personal touch and that interpersonal conversation exists Thursday
- 10:43at the Shape Shop, we have our own meeting room for fix It with
- 10:48Foods Mediterranean. But I'm truly, truly concerned what's happening with that industry.
- 10:54I also understand that Jenny Craig is gone. They decided to stop because I
- 10:58don't know that they had another medical or medicine approach that they can offer,
- 11:05which is what's happened with the weight watchers. Nothing good is going to come.
- 11:11And this is just I'm not a dog, That's really what I am.
- 11:16So I'm so worried and concerned. Nothing good is going to come from
- 11:20putting more pharmaceuticals into your body. In my opinion, that's just my opinion.
- 11:24I'm not educated in this. I'm just saying we have become a society
- 11:28that turns to a pill for everything. You know, you don't like the
- 11:31way your kid behaves, Suddenly there suddenly, let's put them on riddling.
- 11:35Let's put them on instead of beating the crap out of which what you should
- 11:37do. But anyway, go ahead. In nineteen sixty six, when I
- 11:43was told that I had a that I could go to an open meeting for
- 11:46weight watchers, I said, I'm not going and I'm not doing it.
- 11:48It's not going to work. Da da da da da dada. Long story
- 11:52short. When I finally got my then a boyfriend who became my husband to
- 11:58go, and he went to the first meeting and he said to me,
- 12:01you're going next week. When I did go, I hated it. In
- 12:05the beginning, but by the second week I began to soften, and by
- 12:11the third week I was in love with my leader because I was eating and
- 12:16I was losing weight. Right, I was eating food and losing weight,
- 12:20and I never did that before. And I want people to know there's something
- 12:26they can still do. Talk is important. Look, it's what you do,
- 12:31That's what I do. I don't ever want this program to not be
- 12:35available. I don't want you to ever stop doing this because I'm not unless
- 12:39you know something I don't know. I don't know anything you don't. I
- 12:41do have a text for you here though, from the text line, Can
- 12:43I read this text for you? Text says, how are people supposed to
- 12:48eat healthier when our society is based around the process food industry? Starting from
- 12:52kindergarten, children are groomed to accept process sugars as part of the daily diet.
- 12:56The government also heavily subsidizes process sugar foods. How are we supposed to
- 13:01change when the system is set up like this? As thinking people, we
- 13:03have to read between the lines and we have to do some research on our
- 13:07own. That's the simple answer. I understand brainwashing. I understand being told
- 13:13this that and the other. But there's more information out there, and that
- 13:18comes down to you and I doing the right thing for ourselves. And nobody
- 13:20likes to eat more than I do. I'm a fan, I'm a fan.
- 13:24I'm a fan, but I've changed. Go check out the Shape.
- 13:26We gotta wrap it up. Did you have anything else you want to tell
- 13:28us? But I can talk for you for two hours. I know you
- 13:31could. I know you well, you know I'm on vacation next week,
- 13:33so maybe you can talk to Dale Cooper and see if Cooper, well,
- 13:37I could come. Well you could come and go hang out with me on
- 13:39a beat somewhere. Well, I don't think some undisclosed location. Yeah,
- 13:43I know it needs to be undisclosed, so you can have a vacation exactly

- 18:03Clerk and now Republican candidate for West Virginia Secretary of State Brian Wood is here.
- 18:07Good morning, man, How are you. Good morning? How are
- 18:07you sir? I am doing fine. Now. You are on talk line
- 18:11last week with Dave Wilson, who was in suving for Hobby, and you
- 18:15announced to the state that you'd be running for Secretary of State. That job,
- 18:18of course, currently held by Mike Warner, who's opted to run to
- 18:21not run for reelection. Instead, he's gonna be running for governor. You
- 18:23made the announcement with Northern Dave. That's what we call him. He's I'm
- 18:27Southern Dave. He's Northern Dave. But you are on this show back in
- 18:30December, and you said at that time you probably we're going to run,
- 18:33depending on what Mac Warner decided to do. Secretary Warner, as I said,
- 18:37in January, did announce he would be running for governor. So now
- 18:41you are a candidate officially, I mean, I guess not officially till next
- 18:45year, but unofficially, officially you're running for secretary of State. What has
- 18:48been the response now that the word is out there about you. I'm overwhelmed
- 18:53with the pausitive response. You know, a lot of them will tell you
- 18:57what you want to hear. But we're all, you know, the people
- 19:00that are willing to do things for me. I'm not used to that.
- 19:03I'm used to being the guy that's at the office that people come to me
- 19:07needing stuff and me get what they need, rather than me being the guy
- 19:11that needs help. Uh, you know, throughout the state. And so
- 19:15I want to get into your your background a little bit. You how many
- 19:19terms have you served as Putna Canny Clark um in my fourth term now and
- 19:22your fourth term? And but but your background politically, you are a magistrate
- 19:27at one point, is that right? Yes, sir, served two terms
- 19:30as match prior to that. All right, let's let's talk about your before
- 19:33we get to the political ast. But let's talk about your bio. Give
- 19:36us the bio and Brianwood Runwood Uh married, have two children, been married
- 19:41for twenty one years. Um. I went to a Marshall University. Graduated
- 19:47from Marshall University. Go ahead, Uh, yes, go ahead, um.
- 19:52After I graduated December of ninety five and in January ninety six, I
- 19:56ran I started to run for a match in them County. At the time,
- 20:00I thought it was gonna be a state trooper. I applied for it
- 20:03being a state trooper. They had a hiring freeze because there was no money
- 20:07at the time and they needed to wait for the next class to begin.
- 20:11Uh. So I went to the next thing that that that I could get
- 20:15off a mom's payroll because my father just recently passed away and I need to
- 20:18get out on my own, and decided to, uh to run from matter
- 20:22trip and and uh, like I said before, and you're on your show,
- 20:26and possibly did the northern that you know, I had to, you
- 20:33know, right from right from college into work and uh, and I just
- 20:37think it's the Lord's path for me. Talk about that, the transition from
- 20:42magistrate into a county clerk. I mean, yeah, you're in the same
- 20:45building, but that's about where the similarities in between the two jobs, right,
- 20:49Uh, not not necessarily, you know both of them are You follow
- 20:55the letter of the law. You interpret the code, and then you apply
- 20:59it. So you're not really a decision maker or a policymaker or anything like
- 21:03that. You're basically just implementing the policies that are in place by the legislature.
- 21:08Okay, I understand, okay, um. And during your time as
- 21:12as county clerk, you picked up quite a few accolades along the way,
- 21:17Yes, sir, Yes, sir. Two of the most the ones I'm
- 21:21most proud of. There are several several of them, but the Danny Cline
- 21:25Memorial Distinguished Service Award that that's voted on by the county kirks throughout the state.
- 21:29You know, they had felt confident in me to give me that award
- 21:34back in I believe it's twenty eighteen. And then also the National Association of
- 21:41Secretary State Award, which is a national award for destroying the effort destroordinary efforts
- 21:47in promoting voter engagement. So it's a big job being a county clerk,
- 21:52and much like the Secretary State. I mean, the county clerk does so
- 21:55many different things and it's very similar to the Secretary State. And people don't
- 21:59really as everything you know as full disclosure. You know, I people know
- 22:03I did work for the Secretary of State's Office for a time and I had
- 22:07no idea told I went to work the Secretary of State's office everything that that
- 22:10that they did. In your role, Um, you have you've had to
- 22:14work with Secretaries to State, with Mike Warner and with the previous administration as
- 22:18UH as well. And now you're going to be facing off in the primary.
- 22:23We know that you have UM delicate Chris Pritt is going to be running
- 22:27former delicate um um Ken Reid, who's also announcer, maybe even more coming
- 22:33in. But but you're something that I would imagine is gonna be playing up
- 22:37on your experience in that role as a county clerk. Yes, sir,
- 22:40Yes, sir. I'm a hands on clerk. I'm heavily involved with our
- 22:44association, the Clerk's Association. I talk probably weekly, if if not daily,
- 22:51with the Secretary States Office. Were constantly about the ideas off of one
- 22:55another, UM trying to keep you know, Secretary States Office, County Clerk's
- 22:59Office. You're always trying to look ahead to future problems and solve those problems
- 23:03prior to them getting here, and that takes team work. So h me.
- 23:07I'm currently the president of the County Clerks Association. I'm also on the
- 23:11State have a Grant Board. I'm one of two clerks that represent that,
- 23:15and I have a just explain or to have explained what that is to people.
- 23:21I know what it is because I worked there. See what it is
- 23:22help America Vote Act and basically that I believe it was two thousand round two
- 23:27thousand and two thousand two H they created this UM. Every now and then
- 23:33they'll send down money from Washington to help help with grant money to help counties
- 23:40keep up with the cost in the ever increasing costs of elections. And so
- 23:47we we we just met recently and UH divvied out around a million of the
- 23:52have A funds UH to some of our counties to help them UH upgrade their
- 23:59equipment diferent things like that. So I'm one of two Clarks for that.
- 24:03I'm also the local represented for the state of West Virginia and the ECA Elections
- 24:07Assistants Commission, he scoom e AC Elections Assistants Commission, and U basically we
- 24:15go there and represent the state UH and our our concerns and different things like
- 24:19that and give them the R buy in as too, different standards that need
- 24:26to be mad nationally. Talking to Putnham County Clark and candidate for Western Nions

- 24:44h four three nine seven fifty five fifty three for your Edward Jones Financial Advisor
- 24:48of Tas Valley Travis Willard Edward Jones Member s I PC and I talked about
- 24:52this when I had the other two folks on that are running for Secretary of
- 24:56State. Brian, what people think of Secretary State? The automatically thinks think
- 25:00elections, because that's what gets the attention. But I know, as I
- 25:03said, having worked there, elections is a small part of the office.
- 25:07Um, there are many more people in the Business and Licensing division than there
- 25:11are in the elections division, and the charity's division, and h and so
- 25:15on and so forth, service or process. There's a lot of different divisions
- 25:18within the Secretary of State's office. You're an elections guy, obviously, but
- 25:22with your rolls county clerk, you've had to do a lot of different things
- 25:25other than just elections. How do you think your experience as a county clerk
- 25:27will will translate to being Secretary of State because it's very similar. As I
- 25:30said to the top of the of the segment, Yes, sir, the
- 25:33county clerks were many hats, just the same as Secretary States office. County
- 25:38clerks are involved with you know, payroll bookkeeping, budgeting, the record room,
- 25:45you know, recordings and uh and then obviously elections. So uh no
- 25:48different than the Secretary of State. They have many heads as well that you
- 25:52know, they had been the business side, the elections side, and so
- 25:55forth. I've got, you know, twenty six years experience in governmental office
- 26:02management, you know, eighteen of that being the county clerk. I know
- 26:04how to put a good team together and serve the people. My number one
- 26:11rule is that you treat people like you want to be treated when you walk
- 26:12through the door. We never can get away from that hands on communication with
- 26:18with the people of West Virginia to make sure that their needs are met.
- 26:22And so I feel that, you know, all my experience and and listening
- 26:27to the other candidates and some of their their um their sessions, whether it
- 26:33be on TV or radio, I felt as imperative that I run because I
- 26:40feel West Virginia needs somebody like myself with as much experience. You know,
- 26:45they talk about all the things that they want to do. Well, both
- 26:47of them are well, three of them have been in the House of Delegates.
- 26:49So why aren't you changing those laws prior to becoming a secretary state.
- 26:55You know, those are things that should happen. Don't just be okay mccannon,
- 27:00Now I want to do this, this, and this, this should
- 27:02already happened. M chase the laws because, like I said, the secondary
- 27:06state, we just follow the laws of the elect ary place. You know,
- 27:08where the executive branch of the government, not the record keepers. What
- 27:12do we used to send the office, you're basically the record keeping the state.
- 27:15I want to talk about election Brian. Although that we hear about these
- 27:18problems in other states, we simply just don't have those here. And of
- 27:22course there was a time elections weren't so clean in West Virginia. They certainly
- 27:26are now. Very few problems are ever reported in West Virginia. We simply
- 27:30do elections right in West Virginia, and the state has won countless awards for
- 27:37the way we do elections here. And I think that's a testament, and
- 27:40I think Mike Warner would probably be the first to say that that's a testament
- 27:42to the county clerks first and foremost. In fact, he said that in
- 27:47Washington recently, as he was tests to find in front of Congress about elections,
- 27:51that the county clerks do such a great job in West Virginia. How
- 27:55do you intend on keeping that momentum of doing it the right way if you're
- 27:59elected well? As county clerk, I know where firsthand where the rubber meets
- 28:04the road, how elections work, what to worry about, what to think
- 28:07about, how to prepare for the future. UM. I have a great
- 28:11working relationship with all the kind of clerks throughout the state. UM. I've
- 28:15been working with some municipal clerks on some of the municipal elections as well.
- 28:21When it comes to different things like redistrict in our piggybacking on the county ballot,
- 28:26different things like that. I know where we're at. When it comes
- 28:30to ERIC and and voter registration. Eric is is basically UM, it's a
- 28:40it's a electronic registration information center and bit and recently the state had moved out
- 28:48of eric UH and its going a different path, and a different paths is
- 28:52basically UM, someone else feeding us that information as to possible voters who have
- 29:00moved or who needs to be sent a National change of Address card NCA cards
- 29:04what we call it, and basically that is like the warning sign for the
- 29:11voter. Hey, we've got hits that you may have moved. Have you
- 29:15moved or have you not moved. Please let us know so we can keep
- 29:18you on the rolls. If you are currently living in West Virginia in your
- 29:22address, let us update your voter registration. If if you have moved,
- 29:26you know, within the county or precinct or whatever. And then and then
- 29:30let us get you off the rolls. If you've moved out of state,
- 29:33I no longer need to be on it. So so I have that background
- 29:37of knowing and working with the Secretary of State as to where we need to
- 29:41move forward and also where we need dot eyes and cross our tees. Yeah,
- 29:47what will the campaign look like? I know it's early, but you
- 29:48have to hit the trail and travel from one end of the state to the
- 29:52other in order to get elected this office. What's the campaign look like so
- 29:55far? That's a constant tug of war because it is early. I understand
- 29:59that people we're gonna be sick elections. Some already are and we still got
- 30:03a year together. The commercials, this and that. Um, yeah,
- 30:07my my election is gonna be a low budget election. I expect, and
- 30:11I expect all the Secretary of State candidates to be a low budget election.
- 30:15Uh. Everybody's uh throwing their money towards the governor race, throwing their money
- 30:19towards the Senate race, and obviously presidential race. So my, my my.
- 30:25You know, right now, we're trying to just build the foundation uh
- 30:27to grow from, and it's going to be more of a grassroots things,
- 30:30you know, people telling people, social media and different things like that.
- 30:33So so uh, I need people's help. I need people telling people about
- 30:38me. Let's get the person in there that has the most experience, who
- 30:41knows what's going on, who understands, uh where we're at and where we
- 30:45need to go and uh and uh I can't do it. I can do
- 30:51it without the voters. You know. Obviously the only pull of the matters
- 30:53is the one on on on May. I believe it's fourteen. Now.
- 30:59I know you're gonna be and I know you're getting the word out there various
- 31:00places. I said, you're hitting doing the talk show circuit. I know
- 31:03you're gonna be on my buddy Mark Curtis is inside West Virginia Politics show this
- 31:07weekend. I think I just talked to Mark Asterday. By the way,
- 31:10happy belated birthday to Mark. Afterday was Mark's birthday. And that's what it's
- 31:14all about, getting out there and uh and spreading the word. Do you
- 31:15have a a website or social media up and running end or is that something
- 31:19still in progress or what it's being built? But when it is built,
- 31:23it will be Wood the number four WV dot com. Okay, and all
- 31:27the social media will be Wood would number four WV. All right, O'Brian?
- 31:33Wish you the best to luck I mean again, and we're a year
- 31:34away, and I'll have you and the other candidates on several times between now
- 31:38and then. Any final words before we let you go, No, I

- 35:08running for Secretary State, and but I did ask him this after the show.
- 35:13Does Brian agree with some Republicans that you shouldn't be allowed to vote between
- 35:15the ages of eighteen to twenty five until you do committee service like military service.
- 35:20I think I could probably speak for Brian saying no, he does not
- 35:24believe that. I don't I've heard some people say this. I don't know,
- 35:29but this is a widespread thing among Republican circles. I did read something
- 35:32about there were and to agree with the text or there were some in the
- 35:37Republican Party and maybe other parties as well, to think that you should have
- 35:40to do some sort of committee service, like military service, in order to
- 35:45vote. I mean no, I mean I feel pretty confident that's not something
- 35:49that he would back. I'm a person this is I know you ask Brian,
- 35:54you didn't ask me, But I mean, I'm a person that thinks
- 35:57that everyone should vote as long as they're above the age of eighteen. I
- 36:01mean, it was twenty one for many, many years, and it took
- 36:06you know, literally acts of Congress to get that past to be eighteen years
- 36:08of age. And I mean, I think the more people that vote,
- 36:12the better, because I think you probably get into a bad situation when you
- 36:15start saying, well, we'd only have certain people voting. I just don't

- 37:19Um, So the scooters are coming to Charleston. Story posted at WCHS
- 37:25network dot com. You will soon be able to rent motorized scooters in the
- 37:30capital city. This was the brainchild of Councilman Emmett Pepper. Programming note Councilman
- 37:37Pepper will be As I mentioned earlier on with Hoppy to talk about it this
- 37:40morning on talk line. City Council of Charleston on Monday entered too in agreements
- 37:45with the company Bird Global to allow the company to operate the scooters here in
- 37:50Charleston. The company itself based out of Miami, Florida. Only one council
- 37:55person spoke out against the scooters, and that was Shannon Snodgrass Reward two,
- 38:00and she was quoted in this morning's gazette mail as as saying that she felt
- 38:07that Charleston was way behind in getting this done and that many cities had started
- 38:12a program and have already ended the programs Among councilmen, progress of Jacksons are
- 38:20that the Charleston Police Department is already understaffed, it wouldn't be able to enforce
- 38:27the regulations. So you're asking yourself, Okay, how would it work.
- 38:31Well, it'll be based on an app on your phone. You'll just like
- 38:36you would with Uber or something like that. You just download the app and
- 38:40that's how you will rent them. And when you are done with your scooter,
- 38:45you will take a picture of it to let the scooter folks know where
- 38:50the scooters are. And according to the rules, there would be no more
- 38:53than one hundred and fifty scooters citywide. There is a requirement that scooters are
- 39:00parked in a way that allows three feet for walking on the sidewalks. And
- 39:07there will be areas designated just for scooters. Well, now, let me
- 39:12back that up. There will be areas where scooters will be allowed. I
- 39:14don't want to see just for scooters. There are areas that scooters will be
- 39:16allowed and there are areas where they will not be allowed to go. And
- 39:22as was pointed out by Councilwoman's Snodgrass, some cities that had them got rid
- 39:29of them. I do know the city of Saint Albans had them, and
- 39:34according to some in the Land of the Red Dragons, it didn't go well
- 39:39at all. They found the scooters scattered all over the city in people's yards,
- 39:45etc. Before the show, I talked with the city councilman from Saint
- 39:50Albans and I just I just called him and I just asked, I said,
- 39:54hey, I understand that you know you guys had done the scooter thing.
- 39:59What's the status of that? To the city council person, and I
- 40:01don't care to tell you who it is, because he said, I don't
- 40:02care if you use my name. It's Walt Hall, who was also a
- 40:06member of the House of Delegates. He called them a nuisance there and that's
- 40:13exactly his words. They were a nuisance and they got rid of them.
- 40:17And he told me, mister Hall, did Delegate Hall or council person Hall,
- 40:22he's all the above, said that they contacted the city, so please
- 40:24come get these things, because what they were finding is that I guess people
- 40:29were were riding them so long, and I guess when they were done,
- 40:34they were just trashing him. They were not trashing him is in destroying them,
- 40:37but they will finding him in people's yards and so on and so forth.
- 40:39So it didn't work out well. In Saint Alban's they apparently have and
- 40:45again Emmatt Pepper is the expert on this, and he will be on Hopy
- 40:47later today and I'll have him on a future show on my show. Here
- 40:52they apparently have a GPS tracking system on them that won't allow them to go
- 40:58into the areas where they aren't supposed to be. So as best I understand
- 41:01it, and if I am wrong again then I'm sure the councilperson Pepper will
- 41:07will correct me or he can better explain it on Hopy later today, if
- 41:10they if you try, the GPS basically tracks where the scooters go, and
- 41:15so if you try to take them into an area where they're not supposed to
- 41:17go, they just shut off. And that's what leads what led apparently in
- 41:22Saint Albans to people just saying, Okay, well this is this rides over,
- 41:25just kind of trashing them. As I said, council person in Walt
- 41:30Hall, who I spoke with this morning, said it was a disaster and
- 41:34that they no longer have them there, and so I hope that the program
- 41:38will go better in Charleston. Speaking of which I had when I mentioned at
- 41:44the top of the show that I was gonna talk about scooters, I had
- 41:45a text from somebody that says, Dave Saint Albans, this is pretty much
- 41:50what I said, and I appreciate it. Saint Albans had the Bird scooters
- 41:53and there were nothing but a nuisance, a safety hazard, and an eyesore
- 41:57because they were laying everywhere. Thank goodness they are gone. Hope Charleston has
- 42:00better luck with them. According to a texture we'll speaking of Hoppy also on
- 42:07the show this morning, Dale Lee, the president of the West Virginia Education
- 42:09Association will be there. Brad mclahaney with more of the Mountain Valley pipelines and
- 42:15news there. As I said, Counsel Emmett Pepper will be on there,
- 42:17State treasure Riley Moore, Congresswoman Carol Miller, and more. That's hobby coming
- 42:22up at ten oh six on talk Line and also programming. Note like to
- 42:27keep mine my listeners informed of my doings and whereabouts. I will be away
- 42:30from the Palmar Store studio tomorrow. I got to travel. I will be
- 42:35back on Friday. Dale Cooper will be subbing for me on the show tomorrow.
- 42:38I will be back Friday, but then after that I'm on a beat

- 45:51great things about doing the show is that most of the get most of the
- 45:54guests on the show also listen to the show. So I had Putnam County
- 45:58Clark Bryan Wood, who's candidate for Secretary State. On Brian had to leave
- 46:00us to go over and takee a episode of Inside West Virginia Politics with Mark
- 46:05Curtis Little air this weekend. So a text or asked after Brian left,
- 46:07does Brian agree with some Republicans that you should shouldn't be allowed to vote between
- 46:12the ages of eighteen to twenty five until you do committee service like military service.
- 46:15I attempted to speak for Brian, and because I had a feeling I
- 46:21knew what Brian was going to say. Well, Brian actually text me and
- 46:23said, no, my son is graduating this year and he's going into the
- 46:27Army National Guard to serve his country. If he's old enough to serve,
- 46:30he's old enough to vote. According to Putnam County Clerk and Canada Secretary of
- 46:35State Bryan would Texas society would be much better off if we repealed the nineteenth
- 46:40Amendment, as the amendment that allowed eighteen year olds the right to vote.
- 46:45I simply don't agree with that. I'm sorry, that's the text's opinion.
- 46:49I do not agree with that. Texas West Virginia needs to work hard toward
- 46:52dismantling the West Virginia Education Association and the West Virginia AFT to a text five

- 47:10This morning, Green Power Company, the electric school bus maker already talking jobs.
- 47:15They're saying the people they're going to have about forty five people that should
- 47:20be hired and in place by the middle of June. Jobs started twenty dollars
- 47:22an hour with full health benefits. And what I thought was kind of neat
- 47:27about this a continuing education plan with the Workforce Development Board of Kanawha County and
- 47:30with Bridge Valley that they will many of the employees will work in the facility
- 47:38four days a week and then go to school for the other day. That
- 47:42was pretty but they're doing that. The House of Delegates is now to Delegate.
- 47:46Delegate Erica Storch from Wheeling is changing jobs in the private sector, which
- 47:52necessitates a resignation from office for her. She is a Republican and was first
- 47:57elected to the House in twenty ten and was Deputy Majority whip this past session.
- 48:00The governor would now appoint another Republican to fill that seat until next year,
- 48:07based on the party recommendations from local committees. And you know, I
- 48:09don't spend a lot of time talking politics from other states on his show,
- 48:14but I will say this, I was kind of keeping an eyeing this.
- 48:15There will be Oh, by the way, I need to correct something that
- 48:21I said. I should have known that the nineteenth Amendment allowed women to vote
- 48:27since the Texter, Yeah, I got I got my amendments mixed up there.
- 48:30I thought so the Texter was saying that the world will be better off
- 48:32of women couldn't vote. Okay, all right, all right. I don't
- 48:37spend time a lot of time talking about politics from other state, but there's
- 48:38about to be a major showdown come fall in Kentucky for governor. The Attorney
- 48:45General of Kentucky Daniel Cameron, who was backed by former President Trump, as
- 48:49well as Minch McConnell. One yesterday, Minyhill face off against the current governor
- 48:53there, Democrat Andy Butcher, who is one of the more popular governors even
- 48:58though he's a Democrat. Man, you talk about a battle and one that
- 49:04is going to make for great profits for radio, television, newspapers, etc.
- 49:08Oh, it's going to be good. I have a good friend who
- 49:13sells for a radio station in Kentucky, and I was talking to him a
- 49:17couple of weeks ago, and he and I kind have agreed that perhaps the
- 49:22only people in the world who love political advertising are those that sell ad space
- 49:28being on radio, television, billboards, online in the newspaper, etc.
- 49:32We are salivating right now over these types of races. Just being honest here,
- 49:38you think you think there may be some money spent in the Republican primary
- 49:45for Senate next year between Governor Justice and Congressman Alex Mooney, And yes,
- 49:49I know there's another Chris Rose in there as well. But I'm talking about
- 49:51where the big bucks are going to be spent between those two campaigns, plus
- 49:55all the political action committees that are going to pour money in the state for
- 50:00a race which is still a year away. I mean, the advertising has
- 50:05already started. As I mentioned, Governor Justice made his announcement that he was
- 50:08going to run for you as Senate on a Thursday at the Greenbrier. I
- 50:13told you the story I got up the next morning, turn on the television
- 50:15news, getting ready for work, and they're so ready. An Alex Mooney
- 50:20add on the morning twelve hours, not even twelve hours after he had it
- 50:24Congress Mooney had it in the can and and ready to go. It's gonna
- 50:29be good times for people who saw advertising. It might be a good time
- 50:32for you boy here to ask for more money to do this show. And
- 50:37look at all the Republicans that are running for governor. Attorney General Patrick Morris,
- 50:42he was on the show Yesterday's Secretary of State Mac Warner, sayed Auditor
- 50:45J. B. Mccusky, auto magnate Chris Miller got to get more capital,
- 50:50all running for governor and could be more not more capital, I mean
- 50:55there could be more people, additional people. I should say, I got
- 50:59to learn not to use more. I guess doing this campaign there could be
- 51:00additional people. And ain't none of them coming to the table with no money.
- 51:06I can tell you that. And some of course we'll have more money
- 51:09than others. The race for attorney general a couple of current state senators,
- 51:14Mike Stewart and Ryan Weld. This one's already getting ugly thanks to this show.
- 51:19Sorry, guys. The three candidates in now for Secretary of State.
- 51:23I'm hearing that there are going to be more coming interesting times. Indeed,
- 51:30texted, did anyone on city Council seriously think the scooter thing through it?
- 51:35All? The bums of the junkies have stolen shopping carts and children's bikes for
- 51:38years? So how long until scooters go missing and destroyed? Stupid waste of
- 51:43money? According to a text, all right, I gotta go. I
- 51:46will be off tomorrow, as I said, Dale Cooper will be in for
- 51:50me. I will be back Friday. Well. Welcome in Hannah Garden from
