Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard line. Second to day
- 0:08Speaker 1: free wide receivers now in motion has Bumpas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback map pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line. He throws it into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppus and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Welcome
- 0:34Speaker 1: to Hawk Talk Recap edition. The Hawks get it done
- 0:37Speaker 1: at home fifty one to twenty nine, defeating the Detroit
- 0:40Speaker 1: Lions on their last home game of the season. Great
- 0:43Speaker 1: performance by the offense and the defense. Let's bring in
- 0:45Speaker 1: Nasa Choby and figured out what happened. See what happened
- 0:48Speaker 1: at first look what had happened was on Hawk Talk
- 0:54Speaker 1: You said it, but man, it was an absolutely dominating
- 0:57Speaker 1: performance by this Seahawks team, whooping the lines twenty nine
- 1:01Speaker 1: at Lutman Field, and the offense was rolling the first
- 1:04Speaker 1: time we've seen it really all season, with the exception
- 1:06Speaker 1: of the Colts game. From start to finish, the Seahawks
- 1:09Speaker 1: dominated the Lions. They scored fifty points in a game
- 1:12Speaker 1: for the first time since December sixteenth of twenty twelve,
- 1:15Speaker 1: where they beat the Bills fifty to seventeen in Toronto
- 1:18Speaker 1: the week before that year. That was Russell's rookie year
- 1:20Speaker 1: when the Seahawks really got fire. They also beat the
- 1:23Speaker 1: Cardinals fifty eight to zero back in twenty twelve. Also,
- 1:26Speaker 1: this win was Pete Carroll's one hundred and sixty second win.
- 1:29Speaker 1: He passed Bill Cower for sole possession of nineteenth place
- 1:33Speaker 1: in the NFL's all time coaches win list, which is
- 1:36Speaker 1: a incredible feat for coach Pete Carroll and man. The
- 1:40Speaker 1: Seahawks started the game with a three and out and
- 1:42Speaker 1: a Michael Dixon punt, and of course a lot of
- 1:44Speaker 1: people were probably like, oh, here we go again. Man,
- 1:47Speaker 1: we wouldn't see that boy, Michael Dixon for the rest
- 1:50Speaker 1: of the game. The Seahawks score on the next nine drives.
- 1:54Speaker 1: At one point, they scored touchdowns on five consecutive drives.
- 1:57Speaker 1: They won time possession for just the second time all season,
- 2:01Speaker 1: thirty three thirty three to twenty six twenty seven. Seahawks
- 2:04Speaker 1: were actually great on third down, which has been a change,
- 2:06Speaker 1: went seven of twelve. They also ran seventy one place,
- 2:10Speaker 1: which is a season high. The Seahawks had only had
- 2:12Speaker 1: two other games all season where they ran more than
- 2:15Speaker 1: sixty plays, racked up four hundred and ninety seven yards
- 2:17Speaker 1: the total offense averaging seven yards per play, and bump
- 2:21Speaker 1: this offense, what'd you see from them that was different
- 2:23Speaker 1: than we'd seen all year? Why were they outside the
- 2:26Speaker 1: fact that the choice not a very good team. We
- 2:27Speaker 1: know that that's factual, but the Seahawks have also struggled
- 2:30Speaker 1: against other teams that weren't as great. So why were
- 2:32Speaker 1: they able to put it together yesterday? And it all
- 2:35Speaker 1: started with brisk shot penny Man. He got things going.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Man two early touchdowns and a lot of explosive runs.
- 2:40Speaker 1: On one drive, he had a run of fifteen yards,
- 2:42Speaker 1: another run of twenty I believe as longest run of
- 2:44Speaker 1: the day was about thirty yards, and basically him running
- 2:49Speaker 1: the ball well opened up. Everything goes right going into
- 2:52Speaker 1: the half. The Hawks have our thirty one to seven
- 2:55Speaker 1: league and they would extend it to thirty eight to
- 2:57Speaker 1: seven after DJ read intercepts the very first place in
- 2:59Speaker 1: the second half. Then they go up top to DJ.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Another excuse me, DK, another reason why this team was explosive.
- 3:06Speaker 1: DK got involved. You mentioned Michael Dixon, punny one time.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Have a seat's son sit there, stay warm, do what
- 3:12Speaker 1: you gotta do because you are not seeing the field.
- 3:14Speaker 1: That as a great feeling. Defensively, the Seahawks, we're facing
- 3:17Speaker 1: backup quarterback Tim Boyle, so that helped. He played okay,
- 3:19Speaker 1: but he also had three interceptions. That's not gonna get
- 3:22Speaker 1: it done against his defense. The only thing the Lions
- 3:25Speaker 1: were able to do consistently a Monros saying Brown, this
- 3:28Speaker 1: dude had himself a day eight receptions, one hundred and
- 3:30Speaker 1: eleven yards, one touchdown. He also had two carries for
- 3:32Speaker 1: twenty three yards and a touchdown. But we lost our
- 3:37Speaker 1: best defensive player. Now's that one kind of shook me
- 3:39Speaker 1: up a little bit. You get an, no question about it. Man,
- 3:41Speaker 1: when you see Bobby Wagner go down for a guy
- 3:43Speaker 1: who this year has played one hundred percent of the snaps.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I think there might have been one play or the
- 3:49Speaker 1: last couple of years where Bobby he's come out of
- 3:50Speaker 1: the game. So when you see a guy who's that
- 3:52Speaker 1: consistent and on the field for that amount of plays.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's crazy to see him go down, especially when first
- 3:57Speaker 1: play the game, they're running a little screen. Bobby was
- 4:00Speaker 1: running downhill and he got kind of pushing the back
- 4:02Speaker 1: and he just felt weird, almost did the splits. He
- 4:05Speaker 1: kind of got shook up. Pete Carroll this morning on
- 4:07Speaker 1: his radio show mentioned that it's not as serious as
- 4:11Speaker 1: they had thought and initially, but that we don't know
- 4:13Speaker 1: about his status for the season finale in week eighteen.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But so Bobby at this point, we're so waiting to
- 4:19Speaker 1: hear a prodignosis from him, but he's just a fighter man.
- 4:22Speaker 1: He tried to go back in the game right away.
- 4:24Speaker 1: He was down for a little bit, went to the sideline,
- 4:26Speaker 1: ran back out, and the pitcher was like, no, you
- 4:28Speaker 1: know you can't. If we called time out for an
- 4:30Speaker 1: injured player, you can't come back the next play. So
- 4:32Speaker 1: he went to the sideline. I think in that amount
- 4:34Speaker 1: of time, the coaching stack got together and was like, hey,
- 4:37Speaker 1: we should probably hold him out, send him to the
- 4:39Speaker 1: locker room. And Bobby did not return. So really hoping
- 4:42Speaker 1: that Bobby can come back and finish this year out strong.
- 4:45Speaker 1: He's just been so consistent, you know, another time as
- 4:47Speaker 1: a pro bowler, So hopefully he can heal up and
- 4:49Speaker 1: be back out there. But because if Bobby was out,
- 4:52Speaker 1: Cody Barton man, he made the most of his opportunity,
- 4:54Speaker 1: playing the rest of the game and making an impact.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And I just want to shout out the young guys, man.
- 4:59Speaker 1: The young guys all cross the board showed up and
- 5:01Speaker 1: showed out. I feel like Cody Barton and Jordy Brooks
- 5:04Speaker 1: were playing fast, downhill, physical style on defense. Obviously you
- 5:08Speaker 1: mentioned Chad Penny ud Estro just trying to get in
- 5:11Speaker 1: the mix a little bit. DJ Reid was playing well.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Googamadi had his first pick. So I'd like to see
- 5:16Speaker 1: the youth movement. Obviously, the Seahawks are not where we
- 5:18Speaker 1: thought they would be at the beginning of the season,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but it was good to see some of those younger
- 5:22Speaker 1: guys get in there, step up and play well. Jake
- 5:24Speaker 1: Kerrhan got to start again for Brandon Schell. He played
- 5:26Speaker 1: well in that running game. So a lot of good
- 5:28Speaker 1: things to see from the Seahawks on Sunday. Youngsters gotta done.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The old hands did what they were supposed to do.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Let's get into who made some plays. Playmakers, playmakers, playmakers
- 5:50Speaker 1: gotta starve with Russell Wilson before the game, nas I said,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I need three hundred yards and three touchdowns. What do
- 5:55Speaker 1: you do? He gave me two thirty six and four
- 5:58Speaker 1: to touchdowns. He was twenty twenty nine, two thirty six,
- 6:00Speaker 1: four touchdowns. With yesterday's win, Russell Wilson tied Payt Manning
- 6:04Speaker 1: as the winningest quarterback and the players first ten seasons
- 6:07Speaker 1: including the postseason. That's one hundred and twelve wins. Russell
- 6:11Speaker 1: also tied Dan Reynold and Peyton Manning for the most
- 6:13Speaker 1: games with at least four touchdown passes and a players
- 6:16Speaker 1: first ten seasons that's seventeen. This was the type of
- 6:20Speaker 1: performance we've been waiting on all year. I felt like
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's the the culmination of just a tough season. We
- 6:25Speaker 1: need one more game, but we needed to see this
- 6:28Speaker 1: one to show people that are Russell Wilson still got it.
- 6:30Speaker 1: All you guys out there saying he's done, get rid
- 6:32Speaker 1: of them all this and that you're crazy, These are
- 6:35Speaker 1: the type of things to expect when you have a
- 6:36Speaker 1: healthy Russell Wilson with all his weapons around him. He
- 6:39Speaker 1: looked in control. He looked like he was having fun too, man,
- 6:42Speaker 1: And that's the main thing Russell's. Part of Russell's game
- 6:45Speaker 1: is going out there executing, having fun and just being
- 6:48Speaker 1: a good teammate. I think we saw all of that yesterday. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 1: no question about it. You mentioned, Yeah, he was having
- 6:52Speaker 1: a great time. You could tell DK was having a
- 6:54Speaker 1: great time. It's almost like the energy was contagious, you know,
- 6:57Speaker 1: when DK's catching those touchdowns. We're talking about him in
- 6:59Speaker 1: a second, when Tyre Lockets getting involved in ri Shad Penny.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I mean, so the energy offensively, it just felt it
- 7:05Speaker 1: was contagious across the board. And its great to see
- 7:07Speaker 1: Russell ball out. You know, he struggled at times this year.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I know a lot of that, you know, whether it's
- 7:11Speaker 1: been weather, the finger not playing, there's been a lot
- 7:14Speaker 1: of adversity that he's had to tackle this year, probably
- 7:16Speaker 1: the most in his football career over the last decade.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So good to see him and the home season with
- 7:22Speaker 1: a great game in those four touchdowns. But a guy
- 7:24Speaker 1: we talked about already, a guy we've been talking about
- 7:26Speaker 1: for the last month, a guy who is making a
- 7:30Speaker 1: permanent place and playmakers with shot Penny twenty five carries,
- 7:34Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy yards, two touchdowns, career highs and
- 7:37Speaker 1: carries and in yards. And the cool thing about that is,
- 7:40Speaker 1: we've been we've been saying that week after week after week.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So he's building every week. He's doing a little bit more,
- 7:44Speaker 1: a little bit more, a little bit more. Penny had
- 7:47Speaker 1: one hundred and forty four rushing yards at halftime. That's
- 7:50Speaker 1: the most rushing yards in the first half in Seahawks history.
- 7:53Speaker 1: History of the franchise is going back to seventy six.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So the crazy thing about that is is, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 1: people say, we'll bump you're playing the Lions. Well, you
- 8:00Speaker 1: tell me the Seahawks haven't played a bad team in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the history of their franchise. No one had one hundred
- 8:04Speaker 1: forty four rushing yards at half time. That's including the greats.
- 8:06Speaker 1: That's Kurt Warner, that's Sewn Alexander, that's Marshawn Lynch. So Penny,
- 8:10Speaker 1: once you start setting records like that, that's amazing to see.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He's had one hundred yards rushing in three of his
- 8:16Speaker 1: last four games. The last four games, sixty nine carries,
- 8:19Speaker 1: four hundred and eighty one yards, five touchdowns. He's making
- 8:23Speaker 1: an interesting bump man. He's making it. He's a guy
- 8:26Speaker 1: that you want to see more of. It's a shame
- 8:28Speaker 1: that he didn't get going to the supporting the year,
- 8:30Speaker 1: but his body's feeling healthy. He's running with confidence. He's
- 8:33Speaker 1: wonn with swag. He's running through arm tackles, He's making
- 8:35Speaker 1: guys move and his cuts were just on point. He
- 8:38Speaker 1: was setting corners up boom, putting the ground north south,
- 8:41Speaker 1: then get outside. He used my speed. So everything with
- 8:43Speaker 1: Shot Penny's doing is unbelievable and love to see it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: He is officially leading the team in rushing yards five
- 8:49Speaker 1: hundred fifty nine and five touchdowns. Happy for that young man.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Let's see what he does to finish the season and
- 8:55Speaker 1: then with the Hawks do with him during the off season.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Another playmaker, d K Meant have six receptions sixty three
- 9:01Speaker 1: yards and three touchdowns. He's having one of the best starts,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the best start to a receiver's career in Seattle. This
- 9:10Speaker 1: guy he passed Joey Galloway for the most receiving yards
- 9:12Speaker 1: in the player's first three seasons in Seattle history. He
- 9:14Speaker 1: has three thousand, one hundred and twelve met have also
- 9:17Speaker 1: set a single season career high in touchdowns with twelve.
- 9:20Speaker 1: He has three of those things on Sunday. We're not
- 9:24Speaker 1: getting the yards the past few games that we'd like
- 9:26Speaker 1: to see out of DK, But um, I will take
- 9:28Speaker 1: touchdowns all day and you put up three. I bet
- 9:31Speaker 1: you DK will take sixty yards three touchdowns every game
- 9:34Speaker 1: if you say, that's what you're gonna get. And it's
- 9:35Speaker 1: all about scoring the football. That's what DK has been doing.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Him and Russell. I've shown that chemistry that we're used
- 9:42Speaker 1: to seeing in the past years with these two. Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I love to see it too. Because I was listening
- 9:46Speaker 1: back to the broadcast feed and it was Gus Johnson
- 9:48Speaker 1: and keeps the league, which actually, like I think a
- 9:51Speaker 1: KEEP is growing a little bit. As a broadcaster, it's different,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and obviously Gus Johnson's is one of the goats out there.
- 9:56Speaker 1: But they were talking about it because all the narrative nationally,
- 9:58Speaker 1: he's like, oh, there's something wrong with these two. I
- 10:00Speaker 1: don't know if their chemistry is great. And then boom,
- 10:02Speaker 1: next play, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, and you see DK smiling
- 10:05Speaker 1: on the sideline. So all is good in Seahawk Land
- 10:08Speaker 1: between those two which is great to see another playmaker,
- 10:10Speaker 1: another person who was making his name known in this segment. Playmakers,
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's every week, week in, week out. Jordan Brooks send tackles. Yesterday,
- 10:19Speaker 1: he passed Bobby Wagner for third place on Seattle's single
- 10:23Speaker 1: season most tackles list with one sixty four. Bobby did
- 10:26Speaker 1: one sixty three and twenty nineteen. Now and he's right
- 10:29Speaker 1: behind Bobby, And if Bobby doesn't play now, Jordan is
- 10:32Speaker 1: chasing him, trying to get the league lead and tackles.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You know, it's his eighth straight game with double digit tackles,
- 10:37Speaker 1: first player since Zach Thomas did that in two thousand
- 10:39Speaker 1: and four with the Dolphins. And Zach Thomas was a
- 10:42Speaker 1: baller back in the day. So Jordan Brooks, man, I've
- 10:45Speaker 1: been sitting it all season. You know, this organization has
- 10:49Speaker 1: gotten so much flak for not drafting well in the
- 10:51Speaker 1: first and second rounds. Well, we're starting to see something
- 10:54Speaker 1: because Jordan Brooks is showing why he was a first
- 10:56Speaker 1: round pick and Rashad Penny is finally showing why he
- 11:00Speaker 1: was taken in the first round. Everyone has seen that.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I remember Detroit was one of the teams that tried
- 11:04Speaker 1: to call and trade for Rashott Penny right after he
- 11:07Speaker 1: was drafted, so other people solve the greatness in him,
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's unfortunate has taken as long
- 11:12Speaker 1: for the whole world to see it. But love to
- 11:14Speaker 1: see young dudes balling out. Dave Brooks, can we call
- 11:16Speaker 1: him that now? I mean he's older now, right, he
- 11:18Speaker 1: can get the Jackson Brooks out there, getting there done.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Let's go to the secondary man. Dj Reid had eight tackles,
- 11:25Speaker 1: three passes defended in two interceptions. All year, this secondary
- 11:29Speaker 1: has struggled to turn the ball over. All the interceptions
- 11:31Speaker 1: have come from digs. Jamal had a couple, Bobby Wagner
- 11:35Speaker 1: had one. We're looking at the corners. Until today's game,
- 11:37Speaker 1: the corners had no interception. Dj Read gets too, Ugo
- 11:41Speaker 1: Almighty gets one as well. Should have scored, but fund
- 11:43Speaker 1: with that football doesn't matter. Nice to see dj Read
- 11:46Speaker 1: after missing a week, come back and be effective, be
- 11:50Speaker 1: around the football, tip the ball up to himself, be
- 11:52Speaker 1: at the right place at the right time. That's all
- 11:54Speaker 1: about film study. When you're the right place at the
- 11:56Speaker 1: right time, and then just making the play. A lot
- 11:58Speaker 1: of guys when it's time to make up. Something happens,
- 12:01Speaker 1: they don't come through. Yesterday DJ Reid showed up and
- 12:04Speaker 1: showed out. Yeah, I love to see it. DJ Reid
- 12:06Speaker 1: has been a playmaker from the day he showed up
- 12:08Speaker 1: in Seattle. A great acquisition by John Snyder in company,
- 12:12Speaker 1: especially getting him from San Francisco when the Niners had
- 12:15Speaker 1: essentially gave up on him. He obviously comes in here,
- 12:17Speaker 1: makes his way into the starting lineup, and just a
- 12:19Speaker 1: quick shout out to the secondary as a whole. When
- 12:22Speaker 1: we look back to training camp, we had a lot
- 12:24Speaker 1: of questions about the secondary. Right, we were talking about
- 12:27Speaker 1: Trey Flowers, Kello Witherspoon. Right, we're talking about DJ Reid.
- 12:32Speaker 1: We drafted this kid named Trey Brown, and then you
- 12:34Speaker 1: fast forward to now Trey Flowers love him no longer
- 12:37Speaker 1: on this football team, and Kelly Witherspoon did not make
- 12:40Speaker 1: the ball club. Then throughout the year, then you Trey
- 12:43Speaker 1: Brown gets to the point where he's a starter and contributing.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He gets hurt, he goes down. George DJ Reid's obviously
- 12:49Speaker 1: dealt with some injuries. The Covid the Sydney Jones steps
- 12:52Speaker 1: up and we lose Sidney Jones last week, Less Austin
- 12:55Speaker 1: steps up, he gets in there, we lose him off
- 12:57Speaker 1: the COVID. Then you have Michael Jackson off the actor squad,
- 13:00Speaker 1: who doesn't find out till Saturday night. They hey, you're
- 13:02Speaker 1: gonna play, and all of a sudden boom, he's in
- 13:04Speaker 1: the game and playing and making plays. So obviously, the
- 13:08Speaker 1: Seahawks are great in talent acquisition at that cornerback position,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and I just want to give a shout out to
- 13:13Speaker 1: them because they've gotten so much heat for this entire season.
- 13:16Speaker 1: When we were giving up a lot of yards in
- 13:17Speaker 1: the passing game, they weren't getting interception. So great to
- 13:20Speaker 1: see that unit stick together with all the adversity they've
- 13:23Speaker 1: battled through this year. So good on, good on that
- 13:25Speaker 1: secondary bump. Secondary, Big ups to you. Let's highlight another
- 13:29Speaker 1: young star and making hopefully Cody Barton Man. He stepped
- 13:32Speaker 1: up Whenoby was hurting the first quarter, ended up with
- 13:34Speaker 1: seven tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, and
- 13:37Speaker 1: one pass defended. He is the perfect example of learning
- 13:42Speaker 1: multiple positions. Right when I came into the league, I
- 13:44Speaker 1: focused on the slot. Then as you get comfortable, then
- 13:47Speaker 1: you work at the Z. Then the eggs, you try
- 13:49Speaker 1: to expand what you're doing. Cody Barton came in the
- 13:51Speaker 1: league and in his first training cap he understood all
- 13:54Speaker 1: three positions, got some run early, kind of fills it
- 13:58Speaker 1: out a little bit. Your draft Jordan Brooks, move guys around,
- 14:00Speaker 1: use him as a backup primarily on special teams. But
- 14:04Speaker 1: moments like this is why you have to be locked
- 14:06Speaker 1: in at all times. Cody stepped in for Bobby Wagner
- 14:09Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna say the defense didn't skip a
- 14:11Speaker 1: beat because you're losing a future Hall of Famer, but
- 14:14Speaker 1: Cody was still making plays. I didn't see any any
- 14:17Speaker 1: big plays on that second level and think, okay, what's
- 14:19Speaker 1: fifty seven doing? Man? Cody did exactly what he was
- 14:22Speaker 1: supposed to do. Happy for him taking advantage of this situation. Absolutely.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Cody due out of utaw him, Marquis Player came in
- 14:29Speaker 1: together a couple of years ago, and it's hard to
- 14:31Speaker 1: learn all the positions, man. And it's also hard, you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: people always talk about the backup quarterback because you got
- 14:36Speaker 1: to prepare like you're gonna play every week, but a
- 14:38Speaker 1: lot of other positions have to do that too. And
- 14:40Speaker 1: with the my climback position. That the responsibility you carry
- 14:44Speaker 1: calling the plays, being the quarterback of that defense, and
- 14:47Speaker 1: playing behind a guy who not only doesn't miss games,
- 14:50Speaker 1: doesn't miss snaps at all. So for Cody Barton to
- 14:53Speaker 1: stay ready each and every week, knowing that he's probably
- 14:56Speaker 1: not gonna play it down on defense, for him to
- 14:58Speaker 1: be ready, get his opportun you get in the game,
- 15:00Speaker 1: play downhill football in your face, smash mouth right away.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It was great to see, bump, awesome to see. All right,
- 15:07Speaker 1: let's talk about these receivers. Wide receiver round up. Freddy
- 15:12Speaker 1: Swain had two catches for sixty five eight long of
- 15:14Speaker 1: fifty eight. All Freddy does his catch, the goal ball,
- 15:17Speaker 1: the long ball, the big play. That's what he did.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Dk Metcalf had six catches for sixty three yards, but
- 15:23Speaker 1: three touchdowns. Half of this catches were touchdowns. Jerald Everd
- 15:27Speaker 1: had three for thirty six a couple big first downs.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett had three for twenty four. He set a
- 15:32Speaker 1: career high when it comes to receiving yards in a
- 15:35Speaker 1: season where Shot Penny had two for fifteen. Kobe Parkinson
- 15:38Speaker 1: had one for twelve this league, one for a d
- 15:40Speaker 1: asks one for seven, and penny Hart had one for six. Altogether,
- 15:45Speaker 1: this group had twenty catches two hundred and thirty six yards.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Good day for the guys catching the football. All Right,
- 15:51Speaker 1: we're gonna go to the coaches quarter. We're gonna break down.
- 15:53Speaker 1: DK medcast thirteen yard touchdown, one of his three touchdowns
- 15:57Speaker 1: of the day. What's coming to throw up over the
- 15:59Speaker 1: top came in touch down Seahawks. The protection wasn't perfect
- 16:06Speaker 1: because the blitz was coming, but Russ just backed up
- 16:09Speaker 1: and laid a little tear drop over the top and
- 16:12Speaker 1: DK Metcalf was right there to catch it, a thirteen
- 16:16Speaker 1: yard touchdown reception. And it is great to see Metcalf
- 16:20Speaker 1: back in the end zone again. And the Seahawks now
- 16:24Speaker 1: lead twenty three to seven. And I love when a
- 16:26Speaker 1: nice cover zero as a receiver, especially down on what
- 16:30Speaker 1: the thirteen yard line. What happens is you got three
- 16:33Speaker 1: receivers to the left of Russell Wilson. The number two
- 16:35Speaker 1: and number three receiver are kind of stacked. They're close
- 16:37Speaker 1: to the tackle. Russell motions DK in then if they
- 16:42Speaker 1: form like a tight bunch formation. If you look at
- 16:44Speaker 1: the box, you got four d lineman and then three
- 16:47Speaker 1: guys blitzing on the second level. There's only six guys
- 16:50Speaker 1: a block seven, so somebody's gonna come free. But what
- 16:53Speaker 1: that means is you're one on one everywhere. You got
- 16:55Speaker 1: d s Gudu hits the flat Tyler Locke who hits
- 16:58Speaker 1: the corner. And what DK does is, I believe B.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Wallas called it a nod round, right, you're looking to
- 17:04Speaker 1: see if it's cover zero. If it's zero, you got
- 17:06Speaker 1: one on one going across the field. Instead of running
- 17:08Speaker 1: a shallow cross, he snaps it up and gets vertical,
- 17:11Speaker 1: kind of looks like a slanting goal. What Russell does
- 17:14Speaker 1: is he just throws it to a spot. I don't
- 17:16Speaker 1: even think DK's in his break yet before he starts
- 17:18Speaker 1: his throwing motion, but he knows. Look, he's gonna see
- 17:21Speaker 1: the adjustment and get there. That's exactly what DK does.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Russ throws it up top. Talk about chemistry. If these
- 17:27Speaker 1: dudes didn't have chemistry, they don't execute this play, no
- 17:30Speaker 1: question about it. If they don't have chemistry. DK continues
- 17:32Speaker 1: to run the shallow cross and Russell throws it to
- 17:35Speaker 1: nobody or vice versa. And think about this defensively, when
- 17:38Speaker 1: you look at if their cover zero and when they're
- 17:39Speaker 1: in that tight bunch, you know, the corn on the
- 17:41Speaker 1: outside essentially like listen, I'm gonna take whatever breaks outside.
- 17:45Speaker 1: The guy who's in the slod is gonna take number two,
- 17:47Speaker 1: which is tire locket right at the middle, and then
- 17:49Speaker 1: the safety is on the inside is gonna take whoever
- 17:51Speaker 1: breaks inside. Now, the problem for that, that's a really
- 17:54Speaker 1: tough matchup for a safety picking up DK back off
- 17:57Speaker 1: in that situation when the blitz is on. So especially
- 18:00Speaker 1: when you're backed up in that red zone, you're not
- 18:02Speaker 1: thinking there's gonna be a double move. You're not thinking
- 18:05Speaker 1: there's gonna be enough time. So he he commits. He
- 18:07Speaker 1: sees that child cross. He's probably seen DK and Russell
- 18:10Speaker 1: or Tyler whoever run this route a million times, So
- 18:13Speaker 1: he breaks downhill thinking, oh, I might get a pick.
- 18:15Speaker 1: The blitch is on. Whoops they call that I can't
- 18:18Speaker 1: say on this podcast to oh blank read as a
- 18:21Speaker 1: defensive back where you go, oh and if you can't
- 18:24Speaker 1: grab him, you know to touchdown and exactly easy pitching
- 18:27Speaker 1: catch for Russell Wilson, DK metcal. I love to see it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I used to call it that, or we used to
- 18:32Speaker 1: call at Washington stay we hit him with the oochie.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Wally got him all right. Hey, the last few weeks
- 18:40Speaker 1: have been rough. This season has been rough. We haven't
- 18:43Speaker 1: gotten this formation very often, but you know what, let's
- 18:46Speaker 1: get into it. Victory formation. Here comes the Seahawk offense
- 18:52Speaker 1: onto the field and the Vikings defense crunching out there
- 18:56Speaker 1: knowing that one kneel down and the Seahawks arena one
- 19:00Speaker 1: o'clock down and women for him. It's the victory formation.
- 19:03Speaker 1: On Hawk Talk, Thank god her back in the victory formation.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You know, it's been a couple of weeks. Bump I
- 19:08Speaker 1: didn't even change the name on the rundown and still
- 19:11Speaker 1: says clock running out. So I'm happy to be back
- 19:13Speaker 1: in our favorite formation. And it was a great all
- 19:15Speaker 1: round game, just straight up from start to finish. Seahawks
- 19:18Speaker 1: dominated on offense, blowing out that bad Lions team, scoring
- 19:21Speaker 1: points on nine consecutive drives. It was great to see
- 19:24Speaker 1: everyone functioning on a high level. Offensively, Russell Wilson came
- 19:27Speaker 1: out looked good. Jody Stills got chemistry, DK Metcal found
- 19:31Speaker 1: him for three touchdowns. It was great to see him
- 19:34Speaker 1: a go over sixty yards, even though he barely went over,
- 19:37Speaker 1: but that was the first time in like nine games.
- 19:39Speaker 1: And then for him to get you know, last week
- 19:42Speaker 1: he had a touchdown, but for him to get three
- 19:44Speaker 1: grabs is the first game with multiple touchdowns since Halloween.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So love to see how the offense got going, and
- 19:49Speaker 1: it was. It was. We've been waiting to see that
- 19:51Speaker 1: all season long. We got a little bit in the
- 19:53Speaker 1: Colts game. We've not been down with Russell's injury and
- 19:56Speaker 1: everything that had happened. So it's great to see them
- 19:58Speaker 1: come out finally put it together. Yes it might be
- 20:00Speaker 1: a little too late, but it's great to see them
- 20:02Speaker 1: finish out the home schedule strong. Rishad Penny says, look, man,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I gotta sign me. Imagine what me and Chris Carson
- 20:09Speaker 1: can do when I am healthy. He had the best
- 20:12Speaker 1: game of his career. First half USh for one hundred
- 20:14Speaker 1: and forty yards, ended up with one hundred and seventy.
- 20:17Speaker 1: That's what you wanted to see out of a first
- 20:20Speaker 1: round drive pick. That's what the league MP Carroll thought
- 20:23Speaker 1: he was getting. But unfortunately, injuries have just plagued Rashod Penny,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but he has bounced back. I love to see it
- 20:29Speaker 1: in the offensive line played well. Man only allowing one
- 20:32Speaker 1: sack in two hundred and sixty five yards. Phil Haynes
- 20:35Speaker 1: looked great, who started for Damian Lewis, was added to
- 20:37Speaker 1: the COVID list. There's been so much turnover on this
- 20:40Speaker 1: offensive line, like and I feel like for the past
- 20:43Speaker 1: three or four years, there's been a lot of turnover.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And when you talk to football teams, the old line
- 20:48Speaker 1: is usually one of the closest groups when it comes
- 20:50Speaker 1: to position groups. They've really had to come together this
- 20:53Speaker 1: year just because of the turnover. And I mean, I'm
- 20:57Speaker 1: sure Dwayne Brown is coaching up young since you got
- 21:00Speaker 1: gave Jackson coaching him up. Damian Lewis his second year here,
- 21:03Speaker 1: he's in, he's out. The fact that Bay are Indy
- 21:05Speaker 1: gone a high note, I think is extremely important. This
- 21:08Speaker 1: is a group that's going to be addressed during the
- 21:09Speaker 1: off season. But for everything that's happened, this line has
- 21:13Speaker 1: done the best they can do in a tough situation. Yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 1: no question about it. You mentioned that, so one thing
- 21:17Speaker 1: that kind of got overlooked. Damian Lewis flips the other side.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Now a lot of people say when you talk to
- 21:21Speaker 1: Big Ray, it's more of an issue when it's tackled
- 21:24Speaker 1: a right tackle left tackle than left guard to right
- 21:26Speaker 1: guard or whatever, but still it was a change. He's
- 21:28Speaker 1: moving over. Gabe Jackson's knew in this offense. Ethan posted
- 21:31Speaker 1: Kyle Fuller back and forth, Kyle on the job to
- 21:33Speaker 1: start because Ethan was hurt. Then Ethan comes in. Then
- 21:36Speaker 1: Brandon Shell has been up and down and Stone fourth
- 21:39Speaker 1: I s got some play. Then Jake Kerhan, who was
- 21:41Speaker 1: an undrafted guy to cow comes in and he's actually
- 21:43Speaker 1: playing great football. So you're right. It is great to
- 21:45Speaker 1: see that offensive line dealing with the adversity they've had
- 21:48Speaker 1: to go through and not having the same consistent lineup
- 21:50Speaker 1: weekend and week out. So great to see that. Like
- 21:53Speaker 1: we said earlier, Russell Wilson looked like Russell Wilson fishing
- 21:56Speaker 1: day four touchdowns and this offense is is playing where
- 22:01Speaker 1: we wanted to see and I just want to see
- 22:03Speaker 1: them finished bump. Can we do that? Can we get
- 22:06Speaker 1: that one more time against Arizona? I don't want to
- 22:09Speaker 1: lose Aaronzona. Man. They take so much pride and joy
- 22:13Speaker 1: when they play ass out. It doesn't matter where the
- 22:14Speaker 1: record is when they win and the Seahawks own it
- 22:17Speaker 1: down there at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. They lost
- 22:20Speaker 1: that crazy game last year, but in Russell's career, in
- 22:23Speaker 1: Pete's tenure, all the time, they have always gone down there,
- 22:26Speaker 1: balled out at Arizona. A lot of twelves show up
- 22:28Speaker 1: down there in Arizona, so I would love to spoil
- 22:31Speaker 1: their party as they potentially limp into the playoffs next
- 22:34Speaker 1: next week. Let's go. Let's go down to the desert
- 22:37Speaker 1: and get it done. The last game of the season
- 22:40Speaker 1: is coming up next week. You guys, make sure you
- 22:41Speaker 1: go out support. If you can be there, get on
- 22:44Speaker 1: your couch, scream loud, make some noise. That was Hawk
- 22:47Speaker 1: Talk rekappetition. The Seahawks beat the Lions fifty one to
- 22:51Speaker 1: twenty nine. Thanks for joining us. I'm Michael bumpa season
- 22:54Speaker 1: as the Chobe. We talk too soon.
