- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hey team, Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you're having an awesome
- 0:26holiday with whoever you're spending it with this week, on
- 0:30this day, on this holiday. I, of course I wanted to talk
- 0:33about gratitude, but I want to talk about it from a different
- 0:37spin. Before we get into it, I do want
- 0:40to say thank you for listening to this podcast and being a part
- 0:45of this impact community. The messages I get from all of
- 0:49you really inspire me. It's such an honor to hear the
- 0:51stories of of how you're taking some of these messages and
- 0:55applying them and creating ripple effects in your own life.
- 0:58I have to say, this work in coaching around the message of
- 1:03impact is something I'm very grateful for.
- 1:06It's grounded me during a very tumultuous year of my life.
- 1:11It's tethered me to the ground and honestly, I feel like it's
- 1:14lit a fire underneath me that feels like it only grows
- 1:17stronger every month. So I'm grateful.
- 1:20Thank you for being a part of that.
- 1:22Today, let's talk about gratitude and appreciation, but
- 1:25through a different lens. You've heard me talk about the
- 1:29frequency of emotions before. There's a scale, an emotional
- 1:34scale, that you can look up online that gives you a rough
- 1:38estimate of the frequency measured in hurts for all
- 1:43different kinds of emotions. There's a lot of people who talk
- 1:46about this work. I've mentioned David R Hawkins
- 1:49before. He's someone who's prominent in
- 1:51the field, has written multiple books about lots of different
- 1:55topics, but he talks extensively about the frequency of motions,
- 1:59and the frequency of gratitude resonates around 540 Hertz.
- 2:06It's considered to be a very high vibrational state, and this
- 2:10is similar to the frequency of love for context, lower
- 2:15frequency emotions like apathy or hopelessness or sadness,
- 2:19depression, anxiety, those types of emotions, they can be between
- 2:2430 to 70 Hertz, much lower in frequency.
- 2:29There's a huge gap there. And so I just want you to have
- 2:31that context. Some of those emotions that are
- 2:35under 100 Hertz versus gratitude that can resonate around 540
- 2:39Hertz, huge gap. And I say that so that you have
- 2:42a a context for what it means when people say this is a high
- 2:46frequency emotion. It truly is very high frequency
- 2:50in general. We probably have all heard a lot
- 2:53about the benefits of gratitude. You've probably heard about
- 2:56research around gratitude journaling and different
- 2:59exercises with appreciation and all those things.
- 3:02Being in states of gratitude greatly enhances our well-being.
- 3:06There's a lot of research around it.
- 3:07It can strengthen our immune system, improve our sleep, lower
- 3:11our stress, make us more resistant and resilient to
- 3:14depression, even infection. Like the research is extensive
- 3:18about this. For some reason, that's not
- 3:22enough to get to get people motivated to really pursue this.
- 3:28And, and I get it. Gratitude can be a a bit of a
- 3:32buzzword. It can feel a little played out
- 3:35at times, but that's why I want to revisit this in a different
- 3:39way. And before we do, let's talk
- 3:43about what gratitude really is. It's much more than a behavior.
- 3:49It's much more than a feeling. It's not simply saying thank you
- 3:53when something good happens. It's not a polite response or
- 3:58just simply a passing emotion that occurs when your
- 4:02circumstances align and everything works out for you.
- 4:06Gratitude is an emotion that has a high frequency attached to it
- 4:10and therefore can create a very specific state of being.
- 4:14Joe Dispenza is somebody who talks extensively about
- 4:19neuroscience. He talks about electromagnetic
- 4:22fields around the heart and the brain, and he talks specifically
- 4:26about how gratitude is the tuning fork of our inner world
- 4:31and how any frequency that exists in our inner terrain can
- 4:36then align with experiences in our outer world.
- 4:40So when we're attuned to the frequency of gratitude or
- 4:44appreciation that aligns with our experiences in the outer
- 4:49world, and I think this is really interesting, when you
- 4:52feel grateful, your brain and your body can't really
- 4:56distinguish between a real event and an imagined one.
- 4:58It doesn't distinguish well between memory from the past or
- 5:02vision from the future because the chemistry produced is the
- 5:06same. At the brain level.
- 5:08You release dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin.
- 5:12Those are the neurochemicals of joy and connection and
- 5:15well-being. So those chemicals are the same
- 5:18whether you're thinking about a past memory or you're thinking
- 5:21about a vision for the future. It's very interesting.
- 5:25And these aren't just nice feelings, they speak to a a
- 5:27greater level of coherence and alignment overall, including
- 5:33your heart and brain. Because again, our organs all
- 5:35have their own frequency as well, especially heart and
- 5:38brain. Most people wait to feel
- 5:43gratitude until something awesome happens in their life.
- 5:46They wait until they get the relationship they want, or they
- 5:50experience the healing they desire, or the financial success
- 5:54or status that they're hoping for, the job they want, the home
- 5:57they want, whatever it might be. But if we consider this idea of
- 6:02frequency, it would make sense that instead of waiting for the
- 6:08outer world to confirm what we want to feel inside, it would
- 6:12make sense that we would want to tune our inner world to the
- 6:16right frequency so that the outer world can match that.
- 6:20Which would mean that we would need to start experiencing and
- 6:23expressing gratitude right now, even before the achievements and
- 6:28the accolades and the milestones, whatever they might
- 6:31be. And this can be a stretch for
- 6:33people because it's essentially saying that the gratitude has to
- 6:37come before the evidence. And we, we aren't great at that
- 6:42as humans. And that makes sense because we
- 6:45live in a very material world, a dense material world.
- 6:49So when we don't see the material in front of us, it's
- 6:52hard to hold the future vision. It's hard to have belief in
- 6:56that. But again, let's not think about
- 6:59this in terms of belief. Let's think about it in terms of
- 7:02frequency. Think about tuning the fork and
- 7:05creating an internal environment where the frequency is one of
- 7:09alignment and abundance and creation rather than lack,
- 7:14scarcity, fear, survival mode. What happens so often for people
- 7:20is they wake up in the morning and they'll immediately start
- 7:24thinking about what is lacking in their life.
- 7:26Oh, I don't enjoy my job. Oh, I have to sit in traffic.
- 7:30I have all this stuff to do. I don't have enough time.
- 7:32We don't have enough money. You know, I'm not looking
- 7:34forward to this. There's a a lot of lack and
- 7:37scarcity that moves to the forefront of our brain right
- 7:40when we wake up in the morning, We get on our phones, we start
- 7:43checking our emails, we start thinking about all the fires we
- 7:46have to put out. And we're immediately feeling an
- 7:50inner terrain with a frequency that's pretty low vibration, low
- 7:54frequency inner terrain. And it puts us in that place of
- 7:58survival mode. In contrast, gratitude moves you
- 8:03from a place of survival to a place of creation.
- 8:07Because when you're in survival mode, most of your energy is
- 8:10devoted to feelings of stress in the stress response.
- 8:13There's a litany of things that happen in the body when we're in
- 8:16fight or flight, but the main thing to remember is that we're
- 8:19channelling a lot of our bodies resources into highest priority
- 8:22needs for survival, which means we're not devoting a lot of our
- 8:26resources and energy to recovery, to rest, to cellular
- 8:31maintenance, to creativity. I often think about it like
- 8:37we're telling the road crew and the maintenance crew who works
- 8:40on the highways to take a major hiatus when we're in fight or
- 8:43flight. And So what ends up happening is
- 8:45we have potholes in the road or downed power lines or tree
- 8:49branches down, and all of that is just left after a storm.
- 8:53That's how I think about the state of our bodies after we go
- 8:56through big stressors. All of those resources are
- 8:59devoted to dealing with the stress and not the maintenance
- 9:02of rest and recovery and repair. And in those times, we really
- 9:08only think about what we're missing, what we're lacking,
- 9:11what we need to survive. We're scanning for threats all
- 9:14the time, and it puts us into this false sense of fear and
- 9:18isolation. But when you start to get
- 9:21yourself into a state of gratitude, your brain waves
- 9:24change. They go from the most high
- 9:27frequency brain waves called beta brain waves, where it's a
- 9:30place of analyzing. This is where you exist when
- 9:32you're in fight or flight, and it transitions you down into
- 9:35alpha brain waves, which is a place of more relaxed awareness,
- 9:40more coherence, more creativity. Remember, the brain doesn't
- 9:44distinguish between past and future events very well.
- 9:47The neurochemicals released are the same.
- 9:48It's based on what you feel now. And So what if we change the way
- 9:56that we looked at gratitude? What if instead of looking at
- 9:59gratitude as the response, we looked at it as the signal that
- 10:05we send out that says I already AM.
- 10:09I already am healing, I already am abundant, I already am
- 10:12healthy, I am impactful, I already am safe and secure, I
- 10:17already am connected and worthy and loving?
- 10:21What if we flipped the script on gratitude?
- 10:24And I know some of this might feel a little bit abstract, but
- 10:28it's not meant to be because we've all seen this happen in
- 10:30real time. We've all had days where we felt
- 10:33really excited about something that was coming up.
- 10:36And so we expected ourselves to have a great day and lo and
- 10:39behold, we have a really great day.
- 10:41The same is true in the opposite direction.
- 10:43If we are dreading something coming up in our day when we
- 10:47expect that it's going to be hard, stressful day, that's
- 10:49often what we end up experiencing.
- 10:51It's called confirmation bias. The brain is wired for it.
- 10:55We sift and sort through pieces of information that are coming
- 10:58into the brain and we look for the ones that match our beliefs.
- 11:01So this really isn't that big of a stretch.
- 11:05And to consider that we might be able to create our own
- 11:09confirmation bias towards gratitude, creating more
- 11:12alignment at the heart and the brain level for a more attuned
- 11:17inner environment. So that we might be creative and
- 11:20self aware and more open hearted and more open minded.
- 11:24Imagine what that could lead to in our lives.
- 11:29Gratitude is no longer the end result, but it's the first step
- 11:33we take. It's the emotion that sets the
- 11:36tone for us. It sets the frequency, and it
- 11:40sets the stage so that our body can follow the brain and we can
- 11:43design A life that feels fulfilling and joyful to us.
- 11:48So something to think about today is what if we LED with
- 11:52gratitude? What if it was the first step,
- 11:55the first response, and we allowed it to be the tuning fork
- 11:59for our day so that our inner world then attracts the things
- 12:03that we want in the outer world? Something to play around with,
- 12:07just a different spin on a topic you've heard discussed many
- 12:10times before. That's all for this episode
- 12:13today. Have a wonderful holiday team.
