- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Danish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, I loved our zoo episodes. But we only talked about big animals. Lucas: That's true. Today, I thought we could focus on something extra cute: baby animals. Luna: Oh, I love that. Are there special words for babies in Danish? Lucas: Yes. For most animals, you add 'unge' at the end. For example, a baby lion is 'en løveunge'. Luna: En løveunge. That sounds sweet. Løveunge. Lucas: Exactly. A baby elephant is 'en elefantunge'. Luna: En elefantunge. That's a mouthful but I like it. Lucas: For giraffes, it's a little different. A baby giraffe is 'en girafkalv'. Kalv means calf. Luna: En girafkalv. That's unique. So not all are 'unge'? Lucas: Right. Some have special names. But many are just 'unge'. For a baby monkey, it's 'en abeunge'. Luna: En abeunge. That's cute. And a baby penguin? Lucas: That's 'en pingvinunge'. Luna: En pingvinunge. Okay, let me try them all. En løveunge, en elefantunge, en girafkalv, en abeunge, en pingvinunge. Lucas: Perfect. You really have a knack for this. Luna: Thanks. So if I see a baby lion at the zoo, I can say 'Se den søde løveunge'. Lucas: Exactly. 'Se den søde løveunge' means 'Look at the cute baby lion'. Luna: I want to use all of them. Imagine a tiny girafkalv. So tall but still a baby. Lucas: Right. And a baby elephant is huge but still an elefantunge. Luna: This is fun. Let me practice a sentence: 'Jeg ser en abeunge i træet'. Lucas: Great sentence. 'I see a baby monkey in the tree.' You're getting the hang of it. Luna: I love Danish. Every word feels so descriptive. Lucas: It really is. And if you're enjoying learning with Fexingo, we just wanted to say that a small contribution on buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo helps us keep making these episodes. Luna: Yeah, even a couple of dollars makes a big difference for an independent show like ours. We truly appreciate it. Lucas: Now, let's practice a little more. Can you say 'A baby penguin is cute' in Danish? Luna: Hmm. 'En pingvinunge er sød'. Lucas: Exactly. 'En pingvinunge er sød'. Luna: And 'En elefantunge er stor'? Even if it's a baby. Lucas: Right. A baby elephant is still big. 'En elefantunge er stor'. Luna: Okay, I'm ready for the zoo. I'll point and say all these words. Lucas: That's the spirit. Let's review all five: en løveunge, en elefantunge, en girafkalv, en abeunge, en pingvinunge. Luna: En løveunge, en elefantunge, en girafkalv, en abeunge, en pingvinunge. Got it. Lucas: Wonderful. Practice these with us, and next time you're at the zoo, you'll sound like a local. Luna: Thanks Lucas. This was a really fun episode. Lucas: Thank you, Luna. And to our listeners, keep practicing. See you next time.
