- 0:01Speaker 1: Live on Sky News.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is Sharry and Merry Christmas to you too, Andrew.
- 0:08Speaker 2: You've had an amazing year. Well, good evening everyone. This
- 0:11Speaker 2: is my second last show before the Christmas break. Don't
- 0:14Speaker 2: miss a minute because it's a massive program, A big
- 0:17Speaker 2: exclusive on Tony Burk's department asking Israeli visitors if they've
- 0:22Speaker 2: committed war crimes or witness genocide, just if they want
- 0:27Speaker 2: to come to our country. That scoop coming up. Plus,
- 0:31Speaker 2: Israeli Eurovision singer Eden Golan is on the show exclusively.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Tonight she was heckled, booed and face serious security threats,
- 0:40Speaker 2: and tonight she shares her powerful message about standing tall
- 0:45Speaker 2: amid the hate. But first, today the Prime Minister try
- 0:49Speaker 2: to put the anti Semitism genie back in the bottle.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Too little, too late. Waking up this morning, we see
- 0:58Speaker 2: the news and think, not again, that sick feeling in
- 1:04Speaker 2: your stomach, What is it this time? And overnight it
- 1:07Speaker 2: was a torched car, an anti Semitic vandalism in Willara,
- 1:11Speaker 2: just three weeks after another anti Semitic vandalism's free in
- 1:17Speaker 2: the same suburb, and five days after the Adash Synagogue bombing.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It seems we can't get through a week without another
- 1:26Speaker 2: horrific incident unfolding. And I worry that now it's too
- 1:31Speaker 2: late to put this hatred back in the box. Our
- 1:34Speaker 2: political leaders and law enforcement have allowed this to spread
- 1:38Speaker 2: for fourteen months, and now they're trying to act, and
- 1:42Speaker 2: it's just too late. The Prime Minister finally stood up
- 1:47Speaker 2: today and he said that antisemitism must end. He said
- 1:52Speaker 2: he supports banning protests outside homes of worship. And this
- 1:58Speaker 2: is exactly what I've been calling or here's what he said.
- 2:02Speaker 3: We need an end to any Semitism. It is evil,
- 2:07Speaker 3: it diminishes ours is a nation. I own equivocally condemn
- 2:13Speaker 3: the shameful ex of violent aimed at the Jewish community.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I certainly support the banning of demonstrations outside any place
- 2:22Speaker 3: of worship.
- 2:25Speaker 2: So this is Alban Eazy trying to put the gen
- 2:27Speaker 2: back in the bottle. After allowing anti Israel hatred to
- 2:31Speaker 2: spill over into antisemitism for fourteen months, he's now realized
- 2:37Speaker 2: that Australians hate this ugly racism. He's realized this is
- 2:42Speaker 2: a major political problem for him. He's been pressured by
- 2:46Speaker 2: all of the media and so now, as I said,
- 2:49Speaker 2: he's trying to put the anti Semitism genie back in
- 2:52Speaker 2: the bottle after allowing it to run rampant to our
- 2:56Speaker 2: despair for too long. Government directly allowed this anti Israel
- 3:03Speaker 2: sentiment to spill over into naked jew hatred with barely
- 3:08Speaker 2: any pushback, and his government is still even as we
- 3:13Speaker 2: see f Israel spray painted on torched cars in Jewish areas,
- 3:19Speaker 2: his government is still perpetuating this anti Israel message. Penniwong
- 3:25Speaker 2: inflames tensions and heightens the temperature, emboldening the pro Palestinian
- 3:30Speaker 2: activists with her constant criticism of Israel. Yeah, the Prime
- 3:35Speaker 2: Minister today reject this accusation. He claims that Penny Wong
- 3:40Speaker 2: understands racism.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Penny Wong knows about racism. You know, this is someone
- 3:49Speaker 3: who understands very firsthand the damage that racism can cause.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but just because she has personally experienced racism
- 4:02Speaker 2: doesn't mean she understands anti Semitism, which she clearly doesn't.
- 4:07Speaker 2: As Dave Shima, liberal senator said here last night, her
- 4:11Speaker 2: provocative anti Israel retrick is only making this crisis worse.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Simply condones and encourages the sort of anti Israel sentiment
- 4:24Speaker 4: we've seen on the streets which is becoming very quickly
- 4:26Speaker 4: anti Semitic and anti Jewish as well. So I think
- 4:29Speaker 4: it was a particularly ill timed intervention by the Foreign Minister,
- 4:32Speaker 4: and I think she should be much more careful with
- 4:34Speaker 4: her language, given she is Australia's chief dipplotment well.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Alban easy there rejecting those comments from Dave Sharma and others.
- 4:42Speaker 2: The Prime Minister today also wouldn't admit that we're in
- 4:46Speaker 2: an anti Semitism crisis. He was directly asked that question
- 4:50Speaker 2: and he again spoke about going to a bar mitzvah
- 4:53Speaker 2: and shah, but as if he's only just found out
- 4:57Speaker 2: about these Jewish traditions.
- 5:00Speaker 3: On Saturday, I visited a synagogue. I went to my
- 5:04Speaker 3: first bar mitzvah there in Perth. There was a criticism
- 5:10Speaker 3: I've seen that we didn't go with media. It was
- 5:13Speaker 3: Shabbat of respect for the Jewish faith.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And he first made that bar mitzvah comment when he
- 5:22Speaker 2: turned up to the site of the terror attack, and
- 5:25Speaker 2: it was one of the very first things he said,
- 5:28Speaker 2: instead of expressing sorrow for what the community there is
- 5:32Speaker 2: going through.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I went to my first bar Mitzvah on Saturday.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I mean, come on, day in, day out. For months,
- 5:43Speaker 2: we've been begging for leadership on social cohesion, on anti Semitism.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Holocaust survivors in Josh Fridenberg's documentary implored alban easy to act.
- 5:55Speaker 2: That was five months ago. But now anti Semitism is
- 5:59Speaker 2: well and truly out of the box. It's exploding, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: finally the Prime Minister knows he has to stop it.
- 6:07Speaker 2: But how do you stop it at this point? I
- 6:10Speaker 2: truly don't know. And I have to say it made
- 6:14Speaker 2: my stomach turn when I first saw this pro Palestinian
- 6:18Speaker 2: prime minister, who's made horrible accusations against Israel his entire career,
- 6:25Speaker 2: standing in the Holocaust Museum for a political press conference,
- 6:30Speaker 2: for political point scoring. It really made me feel uncomfortable,
- 6:35Speaker 2: even queasy. But I know the Sydney Jewish Museum is
- 6:39Speaker 2: the best place for those who need an education on
- 6:42Speaker 2: anti Semitism, and boy and Albanesi certainly does. After touring
- 6:48Speaker 2: the Holocaust Museum, he finally took the right tone, But
- 6:53Speaker 2: he took a very different tone at a private labor
- 6:56Speaker 2: function and he was caught on tape boasting about making
- 7:01Speaker 2: the Jewish community even more upset as he went on
- 7:06Speaker 2: to flag further changes in Australia's Israel position, and I
- 7:10Speaker 2: presume this will be at the United Nations, possibly overnight tonight.
- 7:16Speaker 2: This is what Criikee Daniel Seed reported. He said in
- 7:20Speaker 2: an audio recording heard by Criikee. Albanezy said some people
- 7:24Speaker 2: have got a bit upset. They'll be more upset by Thursday,
- 7:29Speaker 2: signaling a future announcement on Australia's position on the conflict.
- 7:33Speaker 2: The Prime Minister said there was criticism from a leader
- 7:35Speaker 2: on the other side of the world about our stance
- 7:38Speaker 2: in the Middle East, but that we make no apologies
- 7:41Speaker 2: for standing for two states in the Middle East, the
- 7:44Speaker 2: right of Israel to exist and the right of Palestinians,
- 7:48Speaker 2: after which he received strong applause in the room and
- 7:53Speaker 2: then criik He also reported this, and I quote a
- 7:56Speaker 2: source in the room told Criikee that every staff in
- 7:59Speaker 2: the room winced as Albanzi declared an apparent new position
- 8:05Speaker 2: on Palestine on stage at the event WOW. At the
- 8:11Speaker 2: same time that the Prime Minister tries to make amends
- 8:14Speaker 2: with the Jewish community for his disregard for rising anti Semitism.
- 8:20Speaker 2: His foreign minister and his government is still demonizing Israel,
- 8:25Speaker 2: and he turns up in an event and says that
- 8:27Speaker 2: we're going to all be even more upset, caught on
- 8:30Speaker 2: tape saying it.
- 8:33Speaker 5: So.
- 8:33Speaker 2: At the same time as these anti Semitic attacks are happening,
- 8:36Speaker 2: the Albanze government appears to be continuing its campaign of
- 8:40Speaker 2: aggression towards Israel. And here's another shocking example. I can
- 8:46Speaker 2: exclusively reveal that the Albanezi government is officially asking many
- 8:52Speaker 2: Israeli visitors to Australia if they've committed war crimes. It's outrageous.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Tony Burke's Department of Home Affairs has been sending a
- 9:03Speaker 2: questionnaire to many Israeli visitors to ask them, and I'm
- 9:07Speaker 2: quoting from the official form that I have a copy of.
- 9:11Speaker 2: It says, have you ever participated in the crime of genocide,
- 9:16Speaker 2: a crime against humanity or a war crime? And then
- 9:20Speaker 2: there's a section where you can write details of your
- 9:23Speaker 2: involvement in war crimes and who issued the orders to
- 9:26Speaker 2: commit these war crimes. It also asks in the form
- 9:30Speaker 2: have you ever been a witness of war crimes or
- 9:33Speaker 2: a crime against humanity? Have you ever participated in a
- 9:36Speaker 2: war or armed conflict in any way, and it asks
- 9:40Speaker 2: the gain for details and leave space for how the
- 9:43Speaker 2: individuals involved. This is just someone wanting to visit Australia
- 9:47Speaker 2: this question as well. Have you ever participated in any
- 9:50Speaker 2: physical or psychological abuse against prisoners or civilians? Have you
- 9:55Speaker 2: ever participated in the capture of civilians in a war
- 9:59Speaker 2: or an art conflict? And DEFAT is also asking for
- 10:04Speaker 2: full details sorry Home affairs not DEFAT is also asking
- 10:07Speaker 2: for full details of military training and service to the army. Now,
- 10:14Speaker 2: this form isn't specific to Israel. It can be sent
- 10:18Speaker 2: to any country where the department feels that it needs
- 10:22Speaker 2: more information about a person's military service. But the issue
- 10:27Speaker 2: is in Israel, military service is compulsory for all young
- 10:32Speaker 2: Israelis and people who often travel from Israel to Australia
- 10:37Speaker 2: and have done so for years. They've never had to
- 10:39Speaker 2: fill this out before. Now they're being asked to. Now
- 10:44Speaker 2: many people have contacted me about this, but one family
- 10:48Speaker 2: in particular has a terrible story. An Australian Holocaust survivor
- 10:54Speaker 2: will celebrate her one hundredth birthday in a few weeks time,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and she wanted to be surrounded by her children, her grandchildren,
- 11:04Speaker 2: and her great grandchildren, but some of them live in Israel,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and two family members have not been granted visas to
- 11:12Speaker 2: enter Australia because of their military service in the Israeli
- 11:17Speaker 2: Defense Force. Again it's compulsory for all young Israelis. So
- 11:23Speaker 2: this Australian Holocaust survivor, her twenty one year old great
- 11:28Speaker 2: granddaughter didn't get a visa and then has had to
- 11:32Speaker 2: now go back to the army her leave right out.
- 11:35Speaker 2: She may never get to see her great grandmother again.
- 11:40Speaker 2: At one hundred, you just don't know how much time
- 11:42Speaker 2: you have left now. The second family member is currently
- 11:46Speaker 2: stranded in Thailand. He's been there for two weeks. The
- 11:51Speaker 2: family has been frantically calling Tony Burk's office to no
- 11:56Speaker 2: avail for weeks. Now they're left in Limbo. So Albanzi
- 12:02Speaker 2: stands up at the Holocaust Museum to speak about antisemitism today,
- 12:07Speaker 2: But this is how his government is treating a Holocaust
- 12:11Speaker 2: survivor who's an Australian citizen. At the very moment. The
- 12:16Speaker 2: Albanese government claims that it cares about antisemitism. It's asking
- 12:22Speaker 2: visitors from Israel if they've committed war crimes. This is
- 12:29Speaker 2: an inconsistent and contradictory position that shows the extent of
- 12:34Speaker 2: their moral confusion. The Albanese government is still acting in
- 12:38Speaker 2: a hostile way, depriving a Holocaust survivor of spending her
- 12:43Speaker 2: one hundredth birthday with her family. Now, today Albanzi walked
- 12:49Speaker 2: and he spoke alongside little shoes and items of clothing
- 12:54Speaker 2: left behind by Jews killed in the Holocaust. He used
- 12:59Speaker 2: the holocaus Cost Museum for political purposes. He needs to
- 13:04Speaker 2: back up his serious and solemn words with action. He
- 13:08Speaker 2: needs to stop demonizing Israel and Jewish families. Now, I'm
- 13:17Speaker 2: going to be joined by David Ossip a bit later
- 13:19Speaker 2: to speak about this issue and Albanese's two of the
- 13:22Speaker 2: Holocaust Museum today. But as I said, a big show tonight,
- 13:26Speaker 2: my exclusive interview with Israeli singer of Eurovision Edon Galan,
- 13:30Speaker 2: She's a global superstar. That's coming up later in the show.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Kosher Gada will be on to speak about Trump's new
- 13:36Speaker 2: business endeavor, Daniel Malino, Michael Souoka as well. We're going
- 13:40Speaker 2: to get to all of that. But now let's bring
- 13:42Speaker 2: in my favorite Wednesday panel, former Victorian Liberal Party president
- 13:46Speaker 2: Michael Kroger and former Labor Minister Graham Richardson. Welcome to
- 13:51Speaker 2: you both. Michael Kroger, what are your thoughts on everything
- 13:55Speaker 2: I've just had to say and Albanesi's belated attempt to
- 14:00Speaker 2: I with this crisis.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Well, I'm shocked at your revelation, but I think it's
- 14:06Speaker 6: time for this blake to resign. I mean, he's doing
- 14:09Speaker 6: permanent damage to this country. He wanders around Jewish institutions
- 14:15Speaker 6: railing against antisemitism. This is a bloke who hasn't visited
- 14:20Speaker 6: Israel since October seven, who didn't direct his foreign minister
- 14:25Speaker 6: to visit the kid would see him and the Navy
- 14:29Speaker 6: Music's festival site, who personally hasn't been to Israel. He's
- 14:32Speaker 6: such a friend of Israel. He hasn't been there for
- 14:34Speaker 6: a quarter of a century. In eighteen and nineteen he
- 14:37Speaker 6: had three meetings when he had three meetings with a
- 14:39Speaker 6: notorious anti semit Jeremy Corbyn, allowed himself to be photographed
- 14:44Speaker 6: with Corbyn. He wants to arrest the Israeli Prime minister
- 14:47Speaker 6: if he comes to this country. He couldn't wait to
- 14:49Speaker 6: restore funding to UNRA, despite the fact that there hadn't
- 14:52Speaker 6: been an investigation finished. He changed the designation of the
- 14:57Speaker 6: capital from West Jerusalem. He allowed three thousand residents of
- 15:05Speaker 6: Gaza to come to Australia. He told the Israeli government
- 15:10Speaker 6: not to go into Lebanon. He called for a ceasefire
- 15:14Speaker 6: repeatedly between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas. He happily
- 15:19Speaker 6: was photographed with the Assa Arrafat when he was younger. Well,
- 15:22Speaker 6: let's forgive him for that, because he was on a
- 15:24Speaker 6: PLA tour. He misleads the country about Green preferences. Let's
- 15:29Speaker 6: be very clear. He has the swing vote on the
- 15:31Speaker 6: federal executive. Labour Party ten left, ten right and him
- 15:34Speaker 6: he has a swing vote. Elbows asked, Oh, he says, oh,
- 15:37Speaker 6: it's a matter if they will. No, he is the organization,
- 15:40Speaker 6: the federal executive. It's his decision whether Labor give preferences
- 15:44Speaker 6: to the Greens or other parties. And Honored Goes refused
- 15:49Speaker 6: to hold a judicial inquiry into antisemitism, the disgraceful Jewish
- 15:54Speaker 6: hatred on a university campuses. Jillian Siegel, who we appointed
- 15:59Speaker 6: as the cam and then just completely ignored her, refused
- 16:04Speaker 6: a visa to a former Israeli minister allows four of
- 16:09Speaker 6: his front bingers to trash the Bob Hawk tradition just
- 16:11Speaker 6: so they can say their seats in Sydney.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 6: No, he's a real friend of Israel and he's seriously
- 16:19Speaker 6: opposed to Andy sism. This blake who took six months
- 16:22Speaker 6: to clear extremists away from his own office. If he
- 16:25Speaker 6: can't get these Andy Semitic anti Jewish racists away from
- 16:30Speaker 6: his own office for six months, what hope of the
- 16:32Speaker 6: Jewish community got? Chari?
- 16:34Speaker 2: You put it so well, Michael, when you detail the
- 16:37Speaker 2: extent of the past here, and I'm sure there would
- 16:39Speaker 2: be other examples better.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Well, that's half. That's about half of it. That's about
- 16:43Speaker 6: half of it, Charry. There's a lot more of there.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I mean, there were stories that I had even forgotten
- 16:48Speaker 2: that photograph with Arafat, you know, I broke that on
- 16:50Speaker 2: the show completely had forgotten about that. There's just so
- 16:53Speaker 2: much material here. Rich Oh, we know you're a made
- 16:57Speaker 2: of elbows before you start defending him, but come on,
- 17:00Speaker 2: Richro I mean, he is standing there at the Holocaust
- 17:03Speaker 2: Museum today at the same time you've had ed Husick
- 17:06Speaker 2: out this week speaking about Islamophobia. The same with other
- 17:11Speaker 2: ministers as well. Penny Wong still criticizing Israel. Apparently just
- 17:16Speaker 2: tonight we're expecting another hostile vote at the United Nations.
- 17:20Speaker 2: He's got to pull his cabinet into line if he
- 17:23Speaker 2: is serious about this issue. What do you think, rich O,
- 17:26Speaker 2: I think.
- 17:27Speaker 5: We have been a little loose, shall we say, on
- 17:31Speaker 5: the subject of Israel. I think overwhelmingly Australian support the
- 17:36Speaker 5: right of Israel to exist within safe and secure borders.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Overwhelmingly we do, and so it's only a very small
- 17:44Speaker 5: minority who don't. And if you side with that small minority,
- 17:49Speaker 5: you take a very big political risk, certainly not one
- 17:53Speaker 5: that I'd take. But it's not just about polling and
- 17:56Speaker 5: who wins elections. It's about principle as well. And the
- 18:01Speaker 5: principle involved here is absolutely clear, and we have nowhere
- 18:06Speaker 5: to go as a civilized nation except to continue to
- 18:10Speaker 5: support the right of Israel to exist with safety and
- 18:13Speaker 5: secure borders.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Richard, I just want to ask you what's happened to
- 18:18Speaker 2: Mark Dreyfus and Richard Marz. What has happened to the
- 18:22Speaker 2: labor right that traditionally has been a friend of Israel.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Yes, when you say that labor right. I've been somewhat
- 18:31Speaker 5: associated with the labor right for a few years and
- 18:35Speaker 5: I know a New South Wales conferences year after year
- 18:39Speaker 5: after year, we maintained very strong support for Israel. We
- 18:43Speaker 5: never weakened And as far as I'm concerned, Miles is
- 18:49Speaker 5: in the same category. He's never weakened in his support.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Just in his just in his power and his character.
- 18:55Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I think that you know, there's only
- 18:59Speaker 5: so much one man can do. But I think Miles
- 19:01Speaker 5: has been pretty good. I'm not going to criticize Miles for.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Where are they Why aren't they speaking out?
- 19:09Speaker 5: Well, I suppose that they could get out a bit more.
- 19:13Speaker 5: I think Australia and the Australian Labor Party have done
- 19:17Speaker 5: so much over so long. I think people know where
- 19:20Speaker 5: we stand.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I don't know about that. I don't know about that, Michael.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And then what about the ABC. You might have heard
- 19:26Speaker 2: this already, but the host of ABC Radio Sydney's breakfast
- 19:29Speaker 2: program asked New South I was Premier Chris Mins today,
- 19:33Speaker 2: if this was really an anti Semitic incident, and if
- 19:37Speaker 2: it was merely a political stance, have.
- 19:39Speaker 8: A look just on your wording, in your statements this morning.
- 19:44Speaker 8: What's your reasoning for branding the attack anti Semitic and
- 19:47Speaker 8: not anti Israel? How do you make a distinction?
- 19:50Speaker 4: I mean, I think we would have to be willful
- 19:52Speaker 4: at this point to turn a blind eye to that
- 19:54Speaker 4: sequence of event and suggested to anything other than an
- 19:56Speaker 4: anti Semitic attack.
- 19:57Speaker 8: So if you're calling it anti Semitic rather than just
- 20:00Speaker 8: a political anti Israel statement, what you've been in public
- 20:04Speaker 8: life a long time is would you say anti semitism?
- 20:07Speaker 8: Is that an all time high in your experience?
- 20:11Speaker 7: Yes?
- 20:12Speaker 2: I would. And then, just very quickly, as Chris, can
- 20:16Speaker 2: you point it out that ABC has also suggested there's
- 20:19Speaker 2: two sides to anti semitism. Look at this, none of
- 20:23Speaker 2: that plays out at all.
- 20:24Speaker 9: Well, but you know, the government's record is that they
- 20:27Speaker 9: have moved on a whole range of fronts to try
- 20:31Speaker 9: to crack down on anti hate speech of all sorts,
- 20:35Speaker 9: but it has also been trying to maintain some sort
- 20:38Speaker 9: of middle path so that you know, there are two
- 20:41Speaker 9: sides in this dispute, and they've been trying to not
- 20:45Speaker 9: inflame the situation.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Michael, That's pretty appalling, isn't it, Charie?
- 20:55Speaker 6: What can you say? I mean, don't forget. This is
- 20:57Speaker 6: an organization who, during the First Goal War had as
- 21:00Speaker 6: their independent commentator on the Middle East the secretary of
- 21:04Speaker 6: the Australian Iraq Friendship Society. They didn't realize he was
- 21:08Speaker 6: that until after the war was over. I mean, the
- 21:11Speaker 6: anti Israel bias at the ABC is shocking. It's disgraceful.
- 21:16Speaker 6: We know who's behind it, one of their national international correspondents.
- 21:20Speaker 6: It's been going on for years and it's disgusting. Is
- 21:26Speaker 6: what is good news is that all of these people
- 21:30Speaker 6: are being exposed. One by one, these racists who are
- 21:35Speaker 6: at these some of these demonstrations with with with Palestini,
- 21:39Speaker 6: with with Hesblah flags, with Nazi symbols, yelling out Hamma slogans, journalists,
- 21:47Speaker 6: you know, One by one, a lot of these people
- 21:49Speaker 6: are being exposed. A lot of these people who are
- 21:51Speaker 6: at the demonstration down near jeff Shed, the Military Forces exhibition,
- 21:56Speaker 6: who've had their photographs in the paper, the droom left
- 22:00Speaker 6: any Jewish members of the arts community. Bit by a bit,
- 22:05Speaker 6: one by one, people are realizing that out from under
- 22:08Speaker 6: these rocks of civilization are these Jewish hating racists who
- 22:12Speaker 6: have been sitting there quietly waiting for opportunity, and the
- 22:15Speaker 6: good news is the majority of the country in the
- 22:18Speaker 6: world are turning on them, saying we don't want that
- 22:19Speaker 6: type of division, we don't want that type of racism
- 22:22Speaker 6: in this country. People have come be for a peaceful,
- 22:25Speaker 6: happy life with their families. They love the Australian values,
- 22:29Speaker 6: they hate this type of division. And I have to
- 22:31Speaker 6: say Senator Jane Hume said this morning that the weakness
- 22:35Speaker 6: of the Albanese government had in bold and certain people
- 22:38Speaker 6: in this country. And I got to say Senator Jane
- 22:40Speaker 6: Hume was absolutely correct.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Indeed she was Graham just before we go. I want
- 22:46Speaker 2: to get your summer prediction. Is this going to be
- 22:49Speaker 2: a reset that the prime minister needs over the summer months,
- 22:52Speaker 2: over the Christmas period or do you think, as so
- 22:56Speaker 2: often happens, there'll be some news event, whether it's blackout
- 23:00Speaker 2: or something out, something else, and that this period will
- 23:03Speaker 2: be the death now politically for the prime minister.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Oh, I don't think there's going to be the death
- 23:08Speaker 5: knell no matter what happens over the course of the break.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I think GOALBO is a bit better than that, a
- 23:15Speaker 5: bit stronger. But you know, look, every political party has
- 23:19Speaker 5: good times and bad times. You go up, you go down.
- 23:21Speaker 5: You don't just stay like that at the top of
- 23:24Speaker 5: the tree. You know occasionally you're going to slip, but
- 23:28Speaker 5: you don't regard that slip as the end of the earth.
- 23:31Speaker 5: And we haven't had a great few weeks. So what
- 23:35Speaker 5: life goes on and next week will be better.
- 23:38Speaker 2: But this downward trend has been since the Vice, so
- 23:41Speaker 2: it's not just a brief down period. This has been
- 23:43Speaker 2: for over a year now. And the Resolve poll this
- 23:46Speaker 2: week had your primary at twenty seven percent. Doesn't that
- 23:49Speaker 2: worry you Richard?
- 23:51Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I've been worried before that today about our primary.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Our primary has been getting outrageously low, and now if
- 24:00Speaker 5: we don't get thirty percent, we're in all sorts of strife.
- 24:04Speaker 5: But I can remember and it's not that long ago
- 24:07Speaker 5: where we'd be terribly disappointed if we didn't get forty percent.
- 24:11Speaker 5: So you've got to say, what happened? Something very big did?
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, Well, the labor going woke, that's what happened.
- 24:19Speaker 2: You need to return to mainstream values growing Richardson and
- 24:23Speaker 2: Michael Kroger, can I say it's been a pleasure having
- 24:25Speaker 2: you doing this political panel, this year. I love speaking
- 24:29Speaker 2: and sparring with both of you. Really appreciate your time
- 24:32Speaker 2: over the course of the year and look forward to
- 24:34Speaker 2: doing it all again next year. All right, I'm joined
- 24:38Speaker 2: now by the President of the New South Wales Jewish
- 24:40Speaker 2: Board of Deputies, David Ossip. David, thank you for your time. Look,
- 24:45Speaker 2: I want to speak about this incident that we all
- 24:48Speaker 2: woke up to today. What do we know so far
- 24:51Speaker 2: about what happened in the early hours of this morning.
- 24:55Speaker 10: Well, thank you so much having me on the show,
- 24:57Speaker 10: Sharry and at the outset. Let me just congratulate you
- 25:00Speaker 10: outstanding editorial and you're extraordinary reporting over the past fourteen months.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 25:05Speaker 10: In relation to the incident which transpied in Willara overnight,
- 25:08Speaker 10: we know that at least two individuals in the early
- 25:10Speaker 10: hours of the morning drove to Alara, got out of
- 25:14Speaker 10: their vehicle, dorbed houses and cars with anti Symitic graffiti
- 25:17Speaker 10: and then set their current fire and cowardly fled the scene. Obviously,
- 25:22Speaker 10: the police are still investigating. We welcome the resources that
- 25:27Speaker 10: the New Suporal's government and police have thrown at this
- 25:29Speaker 10: investigation and we hope that the perpetrators who are responsible
- 25:33Speaker 10: for this hate crime are swiftly apprehended in the same
- 25:36Speaker 10: way that the individuals who allegedly committed a similar current
- 25:39Speaker 10: crime in Willara a couple of weeks ago were apprehended.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You how to press conference with the Premier Chris Mins
- 25:46Speaker 2: this morning, but I noticed you weren't at the Holocaust
- 25:50Speaker 2: Museum this afternoon with Alban Easy. Are we seeing a
- 25:53Speaker 2: tale of two leaders here, Shari?
- 25:59Speaker 10: You are correct. I was with the Premier this morning.
- 26:02Speaker 10: I didn't attend the Jewish Museum with the Prime Minister.
- 26:06Speaker 10: Whilst I have the greatest of respect for the office
- 26:08Speaker 10: of Prime Minister and I'm grateful for the money which
- 26:11Speaker 10: they've given this in the Jewish Museum, I couldn't bring
- 26:14Speaker 10: myself to go and hear the Prime Minister talk about
- 26:16Speaker 10: anti Semitism whilst his government continues to plot further policy
- 26:21Speaker 10: moves against the State of Israel, and whilst he fails
- 26:24Speaker 10: to reign in his foreign minister who continues to use incensury,
- 26:28Speaker 10: demonizing and provocative rhetoric which, in my opinion, endangers the
- 26:32Speaker 10: Jewish community. And you're entirely right. It is very much
- 26:36Speaker 10: a tale of two leaders, because the response of Chrisbans
- 26:39Speaker 10: and the state government couldn't have been any stronger. He
- 26:43Speaker 10: was on the phone to me in the early hours
- 26:45Speaker 10: of the morning. He expressed solidarity with the Jewish community.
- 26:48Speaker 10: He called the Israeli ambassador, he immediately coordinated additional security
- 26:52Speaker 10: resources for the community, and he dropped everything on his
- 26:55Speaker 10: plate to go to Wallara immediately to demonstrate his absolute
- 27:01Speaker 10: abhorrence at what had taken place. And this has been
- 27:04Speaker 10: the approach he's demonstrated over the past fourteen months. He's
- 27:07Speaker 10: been there every single time, strong and unequivocal, standing side
- 27:11Speaker 10: by side with the Jewish community. And I think the
- 27:13Speaker 10: Prime Minister and his colleagues would do very well to
- 27:17Speaker 10: learn from Premier ins.
- 27:20Speaker 2: That was a very strong answer, David assert How frustrated
- 27:23Speaker 2: is the Jewish community at this point with the Albanezy government,
- 27:27Speaker 2: including and you mentioned Penny Wang and her criticism of Israel,
- 27:32Speaker 2: So what's your view on this as well?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Well?
- 27:35Speaker 10: I think the Jewish community is extremely frustrated and upset.
- 27:40Speaker 10: This is a federal government which is sat in its
- 27:42Speaker 10: hands and been slow to act on anti Semitism for
- 27:45Speaker 10: the whole of the past fourteen months. It's a government
- 27:48Speaker 10: which has seemed more determined to demonize and abandon Israel
- 27:52Speaker 10: and played domestic politics, then deal with the crisis of
- 27:55Speaker 10: social cohesion and anti Semitism which has fested on its watch.
- 28:00Speaker 10: It's a situation which has gotten worse, not better. And
- 28:03Speaker 10: now after fourteen months, we're at a crisis point and
- 28:06Speaker 10: the Jewish community has been jumping up and down and
- 28:09Speaker 10: warning the government throughout this period and it's not a
- 28:12Speaker 10: surprise that we've now lunded up in a position like this,
- 28:15Speaker 10: and the Jewish community is understandably very disappointed with the
- 28:18Speaker 10: government and concerns about their safety and well being.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Indeed, all right, David Assib, President of the New
- 28:24Speaker 2: South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, really appreciate your leadership
- 28:28Speaker 2: of our community at this very difficult time.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Now still to come Global superstar Eden Golan, she was
- 28:35Speaker 2: heckled at Eurovision. She joins me on the program. Plus
- 28:39Speaker 2: Albinizi takes at NewsCorp as he tries to shift the
- 28:42Speaker 2: blame for his week leadership. I'm going to speak about
- 28:45Speaker 2: that with my political panel after this quick break. Welcome back. Well,
- 28:53Speaker 2: let's bring in now Shadow Housing Minister Michael Souker and
- 28:57Speaker 2: Labour MP Daniel Melino. Welcome to you both. The Herald
- 29:01Speaker 2: reports that Anthony Albinizi has told colleagues during a meeting
- 29:05Speaker 2: that News Corp is openly working to back in Peter Dutton.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So this seems to be the Prime Minister very clearly
- 29:13Speaker 2: blaming the media for criticism of his own week leadership.
- 29:17Speaker 2: It seems to be copying tactics used by his buddy
- 29:20Speaker 2: Kevin Rudd. But he conveniently ignores the criticism from many
- 29:25Speaker 2: other media outlets, including The Herald, and including The Nightly
- 29:29Speaker 2: and The West Australia. Have a look at these front pages,
- 29:32Speaker 2: not ours absolutely smashing alban Easy, especially in the wake
- 29:38Speaker 2: of his shocking handling of anti Semitism. Daniel Moline, I
- 29:42Speaker 2: want to start with you. Do you agree with the
- 29:44Speaker 2: Prime Minister here that this is all a big news
- 29:47Speaker 2: cop campaign to side with Peter Dutton.
- 29:53Speaker 11: Well, Shari, Look, I always take stories based on leaks
- 29:56Speaker 11: with a bit of a grain of salt, and I
- 29:59Speaker 11: go back to PM's actions rather than these purported words.
- 30:04Speaker 11: He's appeared on various News Corp outlets, including Sky a
- 30:09Speaker 11: significant number of times and indeed more than a number
- 30:13Speaker 11: of competitor outlets. So look, he's engaged with news Corp
- 30:16Speaker 11: throughout this term and before that, and I think just
- 30:20Speaker 11: look at his actions. I think he's engaged very very broadly. Look,
- 30:25Speaker 11: I think, as you say, you look right across the media.
- 30:27Speaker 11: I mean, part of the job of the media is
- 30:29Speaker 11: to hold the government to account. So I just think
- 30:33Speaker 11: our job as members of the government is to engage
- 30:36Speaker 11: to explain.
- 30:37Speaker 2: What we're doing.
- 30:38Speaker 11: And you know, I'm one of a number of backbencheres
- 30:40Speaker 11: who appears on this channel and engages with other news
- 30:43Speaker 11: Corp outlets, print and Electronics, So I.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Don't frankly, yeah, and there aren't many Daniel Labor and
- 30:50Speaker 2: peas who turn up. So good on you for that,
- 30:52Speaker 2: Michael Suka. Should the Prime Minister be blaming the media
- 30:56Speaker 2: for his pole leadership, particularly on this critical issue, Well,
- 31:01Speaker 2: of course he shouldn't.
- 31:02Speaker 12: And there's nothing more unedifying than a prime minister having
- 31:05Speaker 12: asook about the media. The truth is that Anthony Alberinezi's
- 31:11Speaker 12: prime ministership is crumbling, not through anything that the media
- 31:15Speaker 12: has done, but through his own actions, through firstly his
- 31:19Speaker 12: lies before the last election, the promises he made Austraians
- 31:22Speaker 12: before the last election that he can't keep his lack
- 31:27Speaker 12: of focus when Australians are struggling and worse, struggling to
- 31:32Speaker 12: the rent, pay their mortgage, by their groceries. He was
- 31:36Speaker 12: off on a frolic with his half a billion dollar referendum.
- 31:41Speaker 12: And now we see probably the worst failure of leadership
- 31:45Speaker 12: that we've probably seen from a national leader in living memory,
- 31:47Speaker 12: and that is the shocking way in which the Australian
- 31:52Speaker 12: Jewish community, quite frankly, has been thrown to the walls
- 31:55Speaker 12: by this government and by this Prime Minister by decisions
- 31:59Speaker 12: and votes you in, by decisions and in action being
- 32:03Speaker 12: made by the Cabinet, and most recently highlighted by the
- 32:10Speaker 12: spectacle of a Prime Minister trying to talk down a
- 32:15Speaker 12: domestic terrorism event that was very clear to everyone. I'm
- 32:18Speaker 12: sure it was clear to Daniel who's a decent labor person,
- 32:22Speaker 12: but he was unable to call that out instinctively in
- 32:27Speaker 12: defense of Australian Jews. Because the truth is Anthony Albanese
- 32:32Speaker 12: is not a leader. He doesn't have that instinctive ability
- 32:35Speaker 12: to make the right cause. And you compare that to
- 32:38Speaker 12: Peter Dutton. Peter Dutton is steadfast, he knows what he
- 32:44Speaker 12: stands for, and I think it was a great example
- 32:47Speaker 12: of contrasting a leader in Peter Dutton and a failed
- 32:52Speaker 12: leader in Anthony Albanesi in the way they responded to
- 32:55Speaker 12: Peter caught it out straight away and the way in
- 32:59Speaker 12: which the Australie JE community has been treated by this
- 33:02Speaker 12: government since seven has been appalling. And it falls on
- 33:07Speaker 12: Anthony Albanezi. His choice of Foreign Minister in Penny Wong,
- 33:10Speaker 12: who likens Israel to China and Russia. A democracy she
- 33:15Speaker 12: likens to China and Russia. He's got wear all of
- 33:18Speaker 12: that and he should be ashamed of himself and not
- 33:21Speaker 12: in any way try to deflect responsibility by blaming the media.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Very well, said Michael. Look, it does seem like we're
- 33:29Speaker 2: in an election campaign mode now. The Prime Minister making
- 33:32Speaker 2: this childcare announcement today splashing four hundred and twenty seven
- 33:36Speaker 2: million dollars to give families earning up to half a
- 33:40Speaker 2: million dollars a year access to the subsidy three days
- 33:43Speaker 2: a week. Daniel, Is this money necessary? Is this just
- 33:47Speaker 2: buying votes?
- 33:50Speaker 7: Oh?
- 33:50Speaker 11: Look, I think this is a really important area of
- 33:53Speaker 11: reform and we can go back to a Productivity Commission
- 33:56Speaker 11: report in twenty fifteen that was actually commissioned and handed
- 34:00Speaker 11: down under the previous government, and that Productivity Commission report
- 34:04Speaker 11: found that these kinds of measures can be important for
- 34:07Speaker 11: workforce participation, but they're also really important when it comes
- 34:11Speaker 11: to young children's development and their preparation for school.
- 34:15Speaker 1: It has really.
- 34:15Speaker 11: Important impacts in terms of education and also their social development.
- 34:19Speaker 1: And what this.
- 34:20Speaker 11: Measure does is it provides much greater access for a
- 34:23Speaker 11: broader range of families to these important services. This measure
- 34:27Speaker 11: provides universal three day access, but it also provides important
- 34:31Speaker 11: measures on the supply side. So it leads to the
- 34:34Speaker 11: construction of one hundred and sixty new setters and twelve
- 34:36Speaker 11: thousand extra spots. And the last thing I'll say on
- 34:40Speaker 11: this is that this is another reform in a series
- 34:44Speaker 11: of reforms in this space, many of which so far
- 34:47Speaker 11: have dealt with the supply side. So we've added training
- 34:50Speaker 11: investments to fee free TAFE to add to the workforce
- 34:55Speaker 11: in this area. We've also undertaken a range of other measures,
- 34:59Speaker 11: including ho pay to attract workers to the area. A
- 35:02Speaker 11: number of the supply side measures that we've undertaken in
- 35:04Speaker 11: this space have been opposed by the opposition, so this
- 35:07Speaker 11: is important reforms and I think it's a critical area
- 35:10Speaker 11: of microeconomic reform.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Very quickly, Michael, because we're out of time. Does the
- 35:15Speaker 2: coalition plan to match this announcement?
- 35:19Speaker 12: Well, it's interesting that Daniel refers to the Productivity Commission.
- 35:22Speaker 12: These proposal seeks to get rid of the activity test,
- 35:26Speaker 12: which just means that parents who are working, or studying
- 35:29Speaker 12: or volunteering, they are going to find it harder and
- 35:32Speaker 12: harder to find places because with these new arrangements will
- 35:36Speaker 12: see the existing existing centers being swamped with even more
- 35:45Speaker 12: demand which they can't meet, which just means that Australian
- 35:48Speaker 12: parents who are working, or studying or volunteering, I'm more
- 35:52Speaker 12: likely to miss out. And we already know there are
- 35:53Speaker 12: many people who are struggling to find places for their children.
- 35:56Speaker 12: This will exacerbate that problem. And I think we'll see
- 35:59Speaker 12: this between now in the election, a very desperate prime
- 36:02Speaker 12: minister throwing money around left rn center in order to
- 36:06Speaker 12: win votes, to try and detract or distract from the
- 36:10Speaker 12: abysmal way in which this government has managed the economy
- 36:13Speaker 12: and quite frankly, the abysmal way that this Prime minister
- 36:16Speaker 12: is leading the country.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, well, this is what economists are worrying about too
- 36:20Speaker 2: much money spashed around pre election, although of course there
- 36:23Speaker 2: is the argument of productivity. Daniel Malino, Michael Suga really
- 36:27Speaker 2: appreciate you coming on tonight. Now coming up after the break,
- 36:30Speaker 2: we turn to the US, which is gripped by this
- 36:33Speaker 2: awful murder of the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and
- 36:37Speaker 2: somehow the killers being celebrated. I'll see about that with
- 36:40Speaker 2: Kosher Garda next, and later my exclusive with Israeli Eurovision
- 36:44Speaker 2: singer Eden Golan her thoughts on what we're going through,
- 36:48Speaker 2: her message for battling the hate, don't miss that, and
- 36:55Speaker 2: Sky News contributor Kosher Garda joins us. Now, Kosha, great
- 36:59Speaker 2: to see you. Look, I want to ask you about
- 37:02Speaker 2: the man chatged with the brazen murder of United Healthcare
- 37:05Speaker 2: CEO Brian Thompson. Look, he's become Luigi Mangioni. He's become
- 37:11Speaker 2: some viral sensation. What is wrong with the world when
- 37:16Speaker 2: a murderer is traded as a hero.
- 37:20Speaker 7: You know, a great point, Shari, and I think it's
- 37:23Speaker 7: a sign that we, in many ways really have become
- 37:25Speaker 7: a sick society, at least parts of society where somebody
- 37:29Speaker 7: like this who did something that we haven't seen in
- 37:31Speaker 7: a long time, like an actual assassination in broad daylight.
- 37:35Speaker 7: Trump was obviously attempted but dodged it, but this actually
- 37:38Speaker 7: was successful. And that to have a corporate CEO, which
- 37:42Speaker 7: is not a typical target that you would expect or
- 37:44Speaker 7: have seen historically. This is a very serious subject and
- 37:47Speaker 7: for people to be talking about his looks, his physical profile,
- 37:51Speaker 7: all of that is sick. And then there's also been
- 37:53Speaker 7: this whole other strain of people who are heralding him
- 37:56Speaker 7: as some sort of hero for taking out the CEO
- 38:00Speaker 7: of a healthcare company because a lot of Americans are
- 38:02Speaker 7: frustrated with the insurance system over there. This is obviously
- 38:05Speaker 7: not the remedy for that. You've even seen people like
- 38:07Speaker 7: Taylor Lorenz, who was a mainstream media reporter, was going
- 38:10Speaker 7: on Piers Morgan the other night cheering about it. I
- 38:13Speaker 7: really think it's a sign of a sick society and
- 38:15Speaker 7: something has to turn around, because this is not the
- 38:17Speaker 7: appropriate response.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Oh, it's utterly bisign. You worry it as well about
- 38:21Speaker 2: the safety of other chief executives, and I'm sure there'll
- 38:24Speaker 2: be others who would be thinking maybe they need security
- 38:27Speaker 2: now on their way home and that would be understandable kosher. Meanwhile,
- 38:32Speaker 2: Daniel Penny found not guilty for the death of a
- 38:35Speaker 2: homeless man on a New York City subway.
- 38:38Speaker 7: Tell us about this, Yeah, so this is another It's
- 38:42Speaker 7: almost like the flip side of the coin of the
- 38:44Speaker 7: Luigi case that we just talked about.
- 38:45Speaker 1: We're here.
- 38:46Speaker 7: You have Daniel Penny, who was a former marine of
- 38:50Speaker 7: the United States Marine Corps, a veteran, and he subdued
- 38:54Speaker 7: somebody who was very aggressive order nearly on the subway
- 38:57Speaker 7: through multiple witnesses who were saying that he was terrible,
- 39:00Speaker 7: rising or menacing them. They were terrified for their lives. However,
- 39:03Speaker 7: he Daniel Penny, was charged and over the past year
- 39:05Speaker 7: he's been awaiting his trial and the jury has spoken
- 39:09Speaker 7: where they were not able to reach unanimous verdict of
- 39:12Speaker 7: convicting him. I think this is a great day for
- 39:14Speaker 7: the jury system and the administration of justice because nobody,
- 39:18Speaker 7: based on the evidence, believed and certainly the jury didn't
- 39:21Speaker 7: believe that the evidence stood up to the charge, which
- 39:23Speaker 7: was reckless homicide. That the standard just wasn't met. But
- 39:27Speaker 7: I will say it's worth mentioning that the fact that
- 39:29Speaker 7: it came this close is quite scary because New York
- 39:32Speaker 7: City is a place where crime has been up. All
- 39:34Speaker 7: sorts of people are not being charged or they're being
- 39:36Speaker 7: given very generous plea deals, including Jordan Neeli himself being
- 39:39Speaker 7: let out on the streets. And of course Alvin Bragg,
- 39:42Speaker 7: the DA is the same person who went after Trump
- 39:44Speaker 7: decided to bring this case, whereas other people are going
- 39:47Speaker 7: scott free. So it's a little bit of upside down world.
- 39:49Speaker 7: And that's another problem that needs to be sorted out
- 39:52Speaker 7: just very quickly.
- 39:54Speaker 2: This isn't brand new today, but I just want to
- 39:56Speaker 2: ask you what is that with the president elect release
- 40:00Speaker 2: his own perfume? What is this about? Why would you
- 40:03Speaker 2: do this? Why does he need to do this?
- 40:07Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, he probably doesn't need to, but I
- 40:09Speaker 7: have to say, it's like it's classic Trump, where he
- 40:12Speaker 7: loves to seize the moment, even if he's somebody in
- 40:14Speaker 7: a very serious position doing serious work. He sees us
- 40:17Speaker 7: the moment. He loves to troll his opposition in his
- 40:20Speaker 7: adversaries with the way he's marketed it. And you know,
- 40:23Speaker 7: I wouldn't be surprised the man got seventy eight million votes.
- 40:25Speaker 7: If even a good percentage of them decide to buy
- 40:27Speaker 7: at this Christmas that it's going to challenge Chanelle number five,
- 40:31Speaker 7: which is the most highest selling perfume of all time
- 40:33Speaker 7: this year.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Would be surprised if we see.
- 40:34Speaker 2: That he continues to break them. Old of a politician anyway,
- 40:38Speaker 2: it keeps things interesting. Koshagada, thank you so much. Really
- 40:40Speaker 2: appreciate your time. Now, don't go anywhere. Global superstar Eden Golan.
- 40:45Speaker 2: She overcame major security threats at Eurovision and now she
- 40:49Speaker 2: has some advice on how to handle the haters. That
- 40:53Speaker 2: interview is after this quick break. Well, most people may
- 41:00Speaker 2: know Jewish singer Eden Golan from her incredible Eurovision performance
- 41:04Speaker 2: this year. Her song Hurricane was a tribute to October seven.
- 41:22Speaker 2: She was heckled bood and had major security threats. At
- 41:26Speaker 2: just twenty one, Eden Golan has shown more leadership on antisemitism,
- 41:31Speaker 2: and she's demanded stronger action on the hostage crisis than
- 41:35Speaker 2: most people whose job it is to do so. She
- 41:38Speaker 2: sets a truly wonderful example for how to withstand the hate.
- 41:41Speaker 2: And I spoke with her about all of this a
- 41:44Speaker 2: little earlier. Eden Golan is so wonderful to have you here.
- 41:48Speaker 2: A huge welcome. You've been here in Australia for a
- 41:51Speaker 2: few days, and I understand you're loving it and you're
- 41:54Speaker 2: having a great time. You also, of course, couldn't help
- 41:58Speaker 2: but notice that we're experiencing shocking anti semitism. The fire
- 42:03Speaker 2: bombing of a synagogue in Melbourne that's now been officially
- 42:06Speaker 2: declared a terror attack, and then just here in Sydney
- 42:09Speaker 2: overnight there's been a car torching and more anti Semitic vandalism.
- 42:15Speaker 2: How do you feel about this level of anti Semitism
- 42:19Speaker 2: that we've seen erupting around the world, including in peaceful
- 42:23Speaker 2: places like Australia.
- 42:25Speaker 1: It's tragic, It's truly tragic and.
- 42:29Speaker 13: Heartbreaking, and I just don't want to accept.
- 42:33Speaker 1: This reality, this dark, scary place.
- 42:38Speaker 13: We're living in, and literally any place in this world
- 42:42Speaker 13: right now could be a place of threat and danger
- 42:44Speaker 13: for us, which is crazy to.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 42:48Speaker 13: But I'm truly I'm so thankful for all the volunteers
- 42:51Speaker 13: and here the CSG.
- 42:53Speaker 1: There's a really security.
- 42:55Speaker 13: Community Jewish community that takes care of the Jewish community
- 42:59Speaker 13: and keeps people safe, and volunteers all over the world
- 43:03Speaker 13: that take part in this and keeping our community as
- 43:07Speaker 13: safe as possible and trying to stay away from these
- 43:10Speaker 13: unpleasant situations.
- 43:13Speaker 2: We all watched you during Eurovision and you were heckled
- 43:16Speaker 2: on stage, you were booed, You were trying to focus
- 43:19Speaker 2: and do your job. I mean, how did you personally
- 43:22Speaker 2: manage to drown out that level of noise and that
- 43:26Speaker 2: level of hostility to deliver what was truly a sensational performance.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Well, that wasn't an easy experience. I can't fly. I definitely.
- 43:38Speaker 13: I mentally prepared myself to the event way before. From
- 43:44Speaker 13: the moment I was selected to be Israel's representative for
- 43:48Speaker 13: your vision, I was drawing myself scenarios and different situations
- 43:53Speaker 13: that could happen, and getting boodh at and hatred and
- 43:57Speaker 13: all of that.
- 43:59Speaker 1: But I think mainly.
- 44:00Speaker 13: The thing that kept me focused and on point was
- 44:06Speaker 13: just a the life. I've been through, different situations and
- 44:09Speaker 13: going through difficult things in life. That kind of built
- 44:12Speaker 13: me to have elephant skin and not really let anything
- 44:15Speaker 13: around me affect me. And also my goal, which was
- 44:19Speaker 13: to represent us with pride and do the best job
- 44:25Speaker 13: I can. I had a lot of weight on my
- 44:26Speaker 13: shoulders to be the voice of not only a country,
- 44:30Speaker 13: but an entire nation. And just that thought, that responsibility.
- 44:35Speaker 13: That's all I cared about. I didn't care about anything around.
- 44:38Speaker 13: I was just there to go on stage for three minutes,
- 44:41Speaker 13: show my voice and try to unite people and spread
- 44:45Speaker 13: some love. And I can truly say that our community,
- 44:50Speaker 13: our big family of Jewish people and israelis all over
- 44:55Speaker 13: the world. The amount of love and support I got
- 44:58Speaker 13: from them was truly insane, and I could never thank
- 45:03Speaker 13: them enough. There were such such a powerful thing that
- 45:09Speaker 13: kept me going through this journey, and still the amount
- 45:12Speaker 13: of love I'm getting to this day, it just keeps
- 45:14Speaker 13: me going. It makes me want to do even more
- 45:16Speaker 13: for us and for this world, and just show what
- 45:18Speaker 13: a beautiful nation we are.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Such a beautiful message that your ambition to spread love
- 45:26Speaker 2: like that, And I love when you said you have
- 45:29Speaker 2: elephant skin. I think we need a bit of elephant
- 45:31Speaker 2: skin during the times we're going through at the moment.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Definitely now.
- 45:35Speaker 2: The formatively your most famous song, Hurricane, the original version
- 45:41Speaker 2: was actually called October Rain. You had to change the
- 45:45Speaker 2: lyrics for Eurovision. How did it make you feel when
- 45:49Speaker 2: you were told that this would need to be done,
- 45:51Speaker 2: that you couldn't reference the October seven terror attacks.
- 45:56Speaker 13: Even before I got selected to represent your vision, we
- 45:59Speaker 13: knew that whoever was going to get selected was going
- 46:01Speaker 13: to get a lot of backlash and a lot of hatred,
- 46:03Speaker 13: and that many people didn't want us there, didn't want
- 46:09Speaker 13: us to participate, didn't want us to take.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Part in the Eurovision Song contists this year.
- 46:13Speaker 13: So let me put it this, I wasn't shocked when
- 46:17Speaker 13: the song wasn't accepted and we were told we need
- 46:19Speaker 13: to change the lyrics. I was like, okay, well my thoughts.
- 46:25Speaker 1: You proved me right that you don't really want us there.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And it wasn't even a question.
- 46:30Speaker 13: I was just like, let's get into the studio, let's
- 46:32Speaker 13: change the lyrics. Let's do everything in our power to
- 46:36Speaker 13: make this work and make us be able to participate
- 46:40Speaker 13: and stand there on stage and represent our country.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Such a powerful, moving, emotional song, and it it speaks
- 46:46Speaker 2: to everyone. I actually came to Israel for the anniversary
- 46:50Speaker 2: of October seven, and for many of the people I
- 46:54Speaker 2: spoke to, many of the survivors, or understandably people who
- 46:59Speaker 2: still have family who being held hostage, it's just impossible
- 47:02Speaker 2: to move on until the hostages are brought home. For
- 47:06Speaker 2: many people, for many Israelis it still feels like it's
- 47:10Speaker 2: October seven all over again. Every day that's the reality
- 47:14Speaker 2: they wake up to. What are your reflections on how
- 47:17Speaker 2: our world has changed over the past fourteen months. Wow.
- 47:23Speaker 1: First of all, I don't think.
- 47:26Speaker 13: The world will ever be the same place after October seventh,
- 47:30Speaker 13: and definitely for our country and our people, this is
- 47:33Speaker 13: something that will be with us forever and something we'll never.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Be able to forget.
- 47:39Speaker 13: And I don't think anyone should ever experience what we
- 47:43Speaker 13: went through, and the fact that we still have hostages
- 47:46Speaker 13: after such a long time held hostage is just it's like,
- 47:52Speaker 13: what this shouldn't be the reality.
- 47:55Speaker 1: This shouldn't be what we're going through.
- 47:57Speaker 13: This shouldn't be real, and we should be doing every
- 48:00Speaker 13: thing to bring them back home.
- 48:01Speaker 1: So I can definitely understand.
- 48:04Speaker 13: And I feel the people that for us, it's October
- 48:07Speaker 13: seventh every day and life will never be the same
- 48:10Speaker 13: after what we went through. And I do think it
- 48:13Speaker 13: had a huge effect on the world and people all
- 48:15Speaker 13: over the world.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Especially on us. It has changed a.
- 48:22Speaker 13: Lot of things, and I'm just hoping that things can
- 48:27Speaker 13: also change the other way to a better place, and
- 48:30Speaker 13: that we can bring the hospitals back home and just
- 48:33Speaker 13: have a bit.
- 48:34Speaker 1: More peace and love in this world.
- 48:36Speaker 2: We desperately need it, desperately needed. I just finally Eden.
- 48:41Speaker 2: You know, as I said, you're an inspiration to all
- 48:44Speaker 2: of us. You connect particularly strongly with the young generation
- 48:49Speaker 2: in Australia and in Israel. Many children are doing it
- 48:52Speaker 2: really tough right now, suffering from anxiety, They're scared about
- 48:56Speaker 2: the future. What's your message to children?
- 49:01Speaker 7: Wow?
- 49:01Speaker 1: I actually wrote a song about that.
- 49:03Speaker 13: My latest song literally speaks about that, about children being
- 49:07Speaker 13: older than they should be and not being able to
- 49:10Speaker 13: fully live life happily and be out in the gardens dreaming,
- 49:13Speaker 13: and they have anxiety and fears about the future and
- 49:16Speaker 13: what will happen and what will be And the children
- 49:19Speaker 13: in our country that have to run to bomb shelters
- 49:23Speaker 13: because of sirens.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 49:26Speaker 13: The one thing I can say is that we are
- 49:29Speaker 13: strong and we have each other. And I'm Israel Hi,
- 49:33Speaker 13: and I'm Israel is strong. And people get through this,
- 49:37Speaker 13: through all this horrible period of time, and I just
- 49:41Speaker 13: hope everyone has something that can keep them going through.
- 49:44Speaker 13: For me, it's music, and I do music to heal
- 49:47Speaker 13: myself and to heal people through music, and if playing
- 49:51Speaker 13: music and listening to my music helps anyone, that's the
- 49:53Speaker 13: best thing. And finding just a safe place and our
- 49:57Speaker 13: surroundings and friends and family's that's all we have right now,
- 50:02Speaker 13: and that's the most we can do.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Is just love each other and spread it.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Such a beautiful message. I can't thank you enough for
- 50:11Speaker 2: sharing it with us here in Australia, Eden. All our
- 50:14Speaker 2: love to you. Thank you so much for standing tall
- 50:17Speaker 2: and proud and strong.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for having
- 50:22Speaker 1: me alright.
- 50:24Speaker 2: I see you tomorrow for my final show of the year.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Here's James McPherson.
