- 0:03Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch-22 podcast with Evan Lazar and
- 0:07Speaker 1: Alex Barth. I'm Evan Lazar. I'm Evan Lazar.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm Evan Lazar.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Hello, everybody.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Nailed it. Joined, as always, by our bar. That's a fit.
- 0:14Speaker 1: That's a match. No risk it. No risk it. Here
- 0:18Speaker 1: is Evan Lazar and Alex Barth.
- 0:20Speaker 3: So it's not uncommon for a guy or a team
- 0:25Speaker 3: that has one of these breakouts to have some of
- 0:27Speaker 3: the weaknesses brought to the fore. And so I expected
- 0:30Speaker 3: a little bit of that naturally coming into the season. OK,
- 0:32Speaker 3: here's some stuff Drake may struggle with last year. The
- 0:35Speaker 3: cover six is.
- 0:36Speaker 1: One of them.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I see teams using that that must rush more against
- 0:40Speaker 3: him now. Close the pocket around him. Don't let him
- 0:43Speaker 3: run away and just knock him off the spot a
- 0:45Speaker 3: little bit. And that'll frustrate him.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I think that's kind of the book on Drake May.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It was at times last year. You just didn't see
- 0:50Speaker 1: teams do it as much.
- 0:55Speaker 4: That was a good open to pick because I want
- 0:58Speaker 4: to talk a little bit about that. it's almost like
- 1:01Speaker 4: becoming Baltimore around here to mention cover six, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 4: like you just, you don't want to say it. Ooh,
- 1:06Speaker 4: cover six. I do want to talk a little bit
- 1:08Speaker 4: about that because the Patriots, Alex and Alex, it's Evan.
- 1:13Speaker 4: It's ace behind the glass are playing the Jaguars this week.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And guess what?
- 1:18Speaker 4: Another quarters base, Vic Fangio inspired cover six defense. So
- 1:23Speaker 4: we'll talk all about that here in a second. We're
- 1:25Speaker 4: going to talk injuries because there's unfortunately a lot. of
- 1:29Speaker 4: those for the Patriots as well off the top of
- 1:31Speaker 4: the show. I want to get your takes, Alex, on
- 1:34Speaker 4: how they're going to replace all these injured guys that
- 1:36Speaker 4: we think are not going to play in this game
- 1:38Speaker 4: on Sunday. I said no grab ass at the top
- 1:41Speaker 4: of the show because we don't have time for it,
- 1:43Speaker 4: but real quick, I.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Pulled a U yesterday. I forgot to eat lunch. Is
- 1:48Speaker 1: that a me thing? Yeah, that's a U thing.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I forgot to eat lunch, and I ate lunch at like,
- 1:54Speaker 4: I normally eat lunch around noon, and my body's very scheduled.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It's too early.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I usually eat lunch around noon and I ate lunch
- 2:02Speaker 4: yesterday at like two 30 because I forgot.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:05Speaker 4: And I have felt like crap ever since. Like I've,
- 2:08Speaker 4: like I've literally am nauseous and don't feel great. So
- 2:13Speaker 4: like I felt like you, I was, you tell me
- 2:15Speaker 4: all the time that you forget to eat that, that
- 2:18Speaker 4: that's a you thing.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm putting that on me. When I eat lunch, I
- 2:20Speaker 1: usually eat lunch at like two o'clock.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I'm more of a late eater lunch around like two.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm more dinner at like eight o'clock person.
- 2:27Speaker 1: That's way too late. No, tonight, no, but it's especially
- 2:30Speaker 1: this time of year. I'm almost in bed by 8 o'clock.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I'm old.
- 2:32Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 2:33Speaker 3: If I can time it right, you know, start making
- 2:36Speaker 3: dinner around like 7.45, 8 o'clock, and I'm sitting down
- 2:40Speaker 3: on the TV, nice, fresh-made dinner as soon as that
- 2:44Speaker 3: game kicks off.
- 2:45Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I get to eat dinner and watch the game. That
- 2:48Speaker 3: is what I like to do. I would say around 8.30.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Jess and I start to get a little antsy on
- 2:56Speaker 4: the couch. By 9 o'clock, we're in bed. We are
- 2:59Speaker 4: in bed.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'm on the couch. 9 p.m. I'm on the couch
- 3:03Speaker 1: through probably 11. I'd say 9 p.m. in the bed.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Maybe watch a little bit more TV in the bed.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Scroll on the phone.
- 3:12Speaker 5: 10 p.m.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Out to the out so you got tv in bed like.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Oh we got yeah we got come on we got
- 3:21Speaker 4: we got tvs everywhere.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah but i'm eating dinner i don't want to eat
- 3:23Speaker 1: in bed i don't eat in bed well.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Yeah because we eat at a normal time like 6
- 3:28Speaker 4: 6 30 like normal people whatever anyways i.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Said i said we weren't yeah right let's just you
- 3:34Speaker 1: could keep going.
- 3:35Speaker 4: But we're gonna do this all right we're getting into
- 3:38Speaker 4: uh Well, unfortunately, off the top of the show here,
- 3:42Speaker 4: we'll just do the latest injuries news. We both of
- 3:45Speaker 4: us were out at practice yesterday, at least for the
- 3:47Speaker 4: media access part of practice. And it's really becoming do
- 3:51Speaker 4: you use like laundry list or CVS receipt? I like CVS,
- 3:55Speaker 4: especially when we're talking.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:57Speaker 4: So this has really become like a CVS receipt. So
- 4:00Speaker 4: I'm just going to rattle it off. And I want
- 4:03Speaker 4: to talk about a few of them individually that are
- 4:05Speaker 4: a little bit more severe, it sounds like, than others.
- 4:07Speaker 4: So there are two players that are going to injured
- 4:10Speaker 4: reserve or have gone to injured reserve off of this
- 4:14Speaker 4: week two game. Mike Onwenu and Del Pettis. Those guys
- 4:16Speaker 4: are out there.
- 4:17Speaker 1: They're out. Mike Onwenu might be out for the season.
- 4:20Speaker 4: That's speculation, but certainly didn't look good and looks like
- 4:24Speaker 4: he broke his ankle. And so that's not great. On Wednesday,
- 4:28Speaker 4: you had three players that did not participate. Craig Woodson
- 4:32Speaker 4: with the shoulder, which we kind of knew about. Draymond
- 4:36Speaker 4: Jones with the shoulder, which we also knew about. And
- 4:38Speaker 4: then Q Hutchins, which we didn't know about, injured his knees.
- 4:41Speaker 4: So maybe that happened late in the game last week,
- 4:45Speaker 4: and so they didn't get to the injury destination with
- 4:47Speaker 4: him in-game. So now you are down Draymond Jones and
- 4:51Speaker 4: Quintavious Hutchins, which means that the only edge rushers on
- 4:55Speaker 4: the roster right now are Elijah ponder gay back is.
- 4:59Speaker 4: And then yesterday they signed Jose Ramirez to the 53
- 5:02Speaker 4: man roster who profiles a lot like Q Hutchins, like
- 5:06Speaker 4: a speed rusher play on special teams, that sort of thing.
- 5:09Speaker 4: So those two guys, I would say, or I guess
- 5:13Speaker 4: you can put Q Hutchins in this list as well,
- 5:15Speaker 4: but it does sound like, murky right now for Craig
- 5:19Speaker 4: Woodson and Draymond Jones. So before I get to all
- 5:22Speaker 4: the limited guys, I just want to start there with
- 5:25Speaker 4: those four on when you Pettis Woodson Jones, because I
- 5:29Speaker 4: think the three out of four of them are starters.
- 5:31Speaker 4: And Del Pettis has been a guy that they've used.
- 5:34Speaker 1: In multiple phases is a starter. If Woodson is hurt, right?
- 5:37Speaker 4: So, so starting with on when you, I don't think
- 5:41Speaker 4: you need to overcomplicate this one for now. I think
- 5:43Speaker 4: Greg Van Roten goes in at right guard. If he
- 5:46Speaker 4: plays well, it's his job to keep for the rest
- 5:49Speaker 4: of the season. If he doesn't play well, we can
- 5:51Speaker 4: talk about contingency plans.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Do you think there's any chance that they move Greg
- 5:55Speaker 3: Van Roten to left and Vera Tucker to right?
- 5:57Speaker 4: I don't see the need for that. I think Ben
- 5:59Speaker 4: Rowan's played plenty of right in his life. Actually, I
- 6:01Speaker 4: think he's probably played more right than left if I'm
- 6:05Speaker 4: remembering correctly off the top of my head. So I
- 6:08Speaker 4: think that he's probably more comfortable at right. I think
- 6:11Speaker 4: that that's the best way to go. The only contingency
- 6:14Speaker 4: plan that I can think of, uh, well, obviously you,
- 6:17Speaker 4: you could try Ben Brown and give him an audition too,
- 6:19Speaker 4: if it doesn't go well with Van Roten, but then
- 6:22Speaker 4: it would be getting a little bit crazy and flipping
- 6:25Speaker 4: Vera Tucker and maybe putting Caleb Lomo in at left guard, uh,
- 6:30Speaker 4: to play there.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Did you catch it yesterday? Vrabel gave one other name
- 6:32Speaker 1: that could be in the mix. Walter Rouse.
- 6:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So I don't really understand that one.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I think he said Rouse and not Lomo.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Maybe they're just, Maybe he's just throwing names out there.
- 6:43Speaker 4: That one I can't really see happening. But as of
- 6:47Speaker 4: right now, I don't think you need to overcomplicate it
- 6:50Speaker 4: like I just said. I would give Van Roen a
- 6:52Speaker 4: little bit of leash and see if he plays well
- 6:54Speaker 4: the next couple of weeks. I thought in the game
- 6:58Speaker 4: last week he struggled out of the gate, which isn't surprising.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I thought he kind of settled down a little bit
- 7:03Speaker 4: as the game wore on.
- 7:04Speaker 1: He's a veteran.
- 7:06Speaker 4: He's started a ton of games recently over the last
- 7:08Speaker 4: three years, mostly, I think, at right guard. So I
- 7:12Speaker 4: would just let him roll with it and see what
- 7:14Speaker 4: happens with Van Roen for now.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah. I, I think you start there for sure.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And I think you start there and you kind of
- 7:22Speaker 3: said it like you got to give him two.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Or three games.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 3: You don't, it would have to be really, really bad
- 7:28Speaker 3: to make that change in game. He's going to have
- 7:29Speaker 3: a full week of practice. The other guys are going
- 7:31Speaker 3: to have a full week of practice with him, you know,
- 7:34Speaker 3: build that chemistry as well.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So, I I'm expecting to see him on Sunday. Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Me as well.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And I, I, it's a drop off and I, I know,
- 7:43Speaker 4: you know, we got an email or a comment or
- 7:45Speaker 4: something like that about people kind of downplaying the on
- 7:48Speaker 4: one new injury.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I don't think, and I'm not trying to downplay it
- 7:52Speaker 4: at all. It's a, it's a big loss. It's a
- 7:54Speaker 4: player that is probably their most consistent lineman. And also
- 7:59Speaker 4: a guy that I think is an underrated leader.
- 8:01Speaker 1: In that offensive line room.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Um, I think the biggest thing, though, that changes on Wenny,
- 8:08Speaker 4: last year I would have said the one-on-one pass blocking
- 8:11Speaker 4: assignments would need to change because he would get a
- 8:14Speaker 4: lot of the one-on-ones because they were trying to help
- 8:16Speaker 4: to the left side of the line. Now that Vera
- 8:18Speaker 4: Tucker is playing left guard, I don't think that they
- 8:20Speaker 4: need to slide protection that way as much as maybe
- 8:23Speaker 4: they did last year with Jared Wilson and Will Campbell
- 8:26Speaker 4: over there. So maybe not so much there, but... I
- 8:29Speaker 4: wouldn't say on when it was making a lot of
- 8:31Speaker 4: like the downfield blocks that get.
- 8:33Speaker 1: The run game going.
- 8:34Speaker 4: He's making a lot of like the base and down
- 8:37Speaker 4: blocks on the line of scrimmage that avoid early penetration
- 8:42Speaker 4: and kind of allow the play to develop. So you're like,
- 8:44Speaker 4: if you look at the play on Sunday on Travion
- 8:48Speaker 4: Henderson's touchdown, it's him and Vera Tucker down blocking that
- 8:52Speaker 4: allow Morgan Moses to wrap the on the, on the
- 8:55Speaker 4: tackle pole up.
- 8:57Speaker 1: To the second level.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So I think that those are the blocks, like those
- 9:00Speaker 4: base blocks, the double teams, uh, the down blocks on
- 9:04Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage that on when it was just
- 9:06Speaker 4: able to be sturdy and anchor and kind of turn
- 9:09Speaker 4: his guys out of gaps. Uh, those blocks are because
- 9:12Speaker 4: he's a big, strong dude, you know, like, uh, that's
- 9:15Speaker 4: not something that I necessarily think van wrote and is
- 9:18Speaker 4: going to, uh, specialize in. So, uh, you kind of
- 9:21Speaker 4: have to change, I think, a little bit about how
- 9:24Speaker 4: you're going to run the football. Maybe now your power
- 9:28Speaker 4: side might actually be more on the other side. We
- 9:31Speaker 4: saw that on Sunday with Ramon DeStevenson's 24-yard run. That's
- 9:35Speaker 4: a double team behind Vera Tucker and Campbell to get
- 9:38Speaker 4: that run going. So that would be the biggest change
- 9:41Speaker 4: schematically that I would see with that, not necessarily in
- 9:44Speaker 4: pass protection, but more so, I would say, in terms
- 9:47Speaker 4: of how they run the football and where kind of the, like,
- 9:50Speaker 4: strength of the offensive line is in the run game.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Do you think there's a chance that we see more
- 9:54Speaker 3: they haven't really used that jumbo tight end maybe to
- 9:58Speaker 3: commentate for that?
- 9:59Speaker 1: They haven't used it as much as I thought they would.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I thought that Lomu would get a lot of run
- 10:04Speaker 4: in that jumbo tight end role. That's a game plan thing,
- 10:07Speaker 4: I assume, week to week, whether or not it's going
- 10:09Speaker 4: to work against a certain opponent. I would especially say,
- 10:12Speaker 4: and we're going to get to the limited guys here
- 10:14Speaker 4: in a second, if Eli Reardon is not a full go,
- 10:18Speaker 4: maybe you see it a little bit more to get
- 10:21Speaker 4: another true blocker on the field. I guess Cameron lot
- 10:24Speaker 4: to retainer Arkin really that kind of player at, you know,
- 10:28Speaker 4: in line type of player that's going to block guys and,
- 10:32Speaker 4: and turn guys out like that.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Maybe not.
- 10:34Speaker 4: So I think that that's maybe a place that they
- 10:37Speaker 4: see the, the extra offensive lineman is getting him on
- 10:41Speaker 4: the field to, to do that sort of thing.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Let's skip over Delped. I guess let's put the safeties together.
- 10:49Speaker 4: So Craig Woodson and Delpedis, I think this is more
- 10:54Speaker 4: obviously Woodson's is a tough loss. If he can't play
- 10:56Speaker 4: for a period of time, one of their, their up
- 10:59Speaker 4: and coming kind of rising stars on the defensive side
- 11:02Speaker 4: of the ball. My guy, Jalen Reed's probably going to play,
- 11:05Speaker 4: you know, it's probably going to be him next to
- 11:08Speaker 4: Kevin Bayard. I feel pretty okay about that tandem, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 4: surviving Craig Woodson's injury. I think this is more because
- 11:17Speaker 4: when you get a rash of injuries, at one position,
- 11:21Speaker 4: you start to have a domino effect of depth missing
- 11:25Speaker 4: at safety. So my bigger question, they have played basically
- 11:31Speaker 4: every snap so far and through two games in nickel.
- 11:35Speaker 4: They have 10 base defense snaps the entire season. So
- 11:38Speaker 4: far they have zero in dime. They basically been all nickel.
- 11:42Speaker 4: Now within nickel, they've played a lot of three safety nickel.
- 11:45Speaker 4: So basically, Are they going to have the depth and
- 11:49Speaker 4: the ability to get to three safety nickel, which I
- 11:52Speaker 4: think is kind of like their new base and what
- 11:55Speaker 4: they're going to match heavy personnel with this season or
- 11:57Speaker 4: the plan was to match heavy personnel with this season.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Do they have the ability to still get to three
- 12:04Speaker 4: safety nickel, even though they don't have now two layers
- 12:07Speaker 4: of depth of Woodson and Pettis out at safety?
- 12:10Speaker 3: I think I actually don't have the number on this.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I'm like middle of writing up my game preview. You
- 12:15Speaker 3: might have it. In this specific game, I don't know
- 12:19Speaker 3: if that's something that should be as much of an
- 12:22Speaker 3: issue because I think the Jaguars are going to play.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Jaguars play a ton of three wide receiver.
- 12:26Speaker 4: They don't play a ton of three wide receivers. They
- 12:28Speaker 4: play a ton of 12. They're second in the league
- 12:30Speaker 4: right now in 12 personnel usage. So they play a
- 12:33Speaker 4: lot of.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I read Brian Thomas on the field less than 50%
- 12:36Speaker 1: of the time.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, they play a lot of Brenton Strange and Borkicker,
- 12:39Speaker 4: the rookie.
- 12:40Speaker 1: The rookie. So then, then they are going to have
- 12:42Speaker 1: to get into it. Yes.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That's going to be Buffalo the week after that, the
- 12:45Speaker 1: same thing obviously is going to do a bunch.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Um, this is, this is going to be tricky for him.
- 12:52Speaker 3: This is where you wonder if, and look, he's been
- 12:54Speaker 3: out there on the practice squad. They had the chance,
- 12:56Speaker 3: like a guy like John Saunders, if he could have
- 12:58Speaker 3: been more in the mix and given them another deep
- 12:59Speaker 3: safety and maybe let buyer play a little more in
- 13:02Speaker 3: the box or something like that. But it, it, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 3: you lose two guys at a position where you usually
- 13:07Speaker 3: only keep four or five. It's going to thin you
- 13:08Speaker 3: out real quick. So they're going to have to find
- 13:10Speaker 3: an answer for that.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Yeah. I, that, that's my biggest concern with it. Not
- 13:14Speaker 4: to like diminish Craig Woodson at all. Uh, but my,
- 13:17Speaker 4: my biggest concern more is they don't, they seem like
- 13:21Speaker 4: they don't really want to play true base defense.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Right. So they don't, they don't have the linebacker. Right.
- 13:26Speaker 4: So if you don't have, if you don't feel like
- 13:28Speaker 4: you have the linebackers to play true base, uh, And
- 13:30Speaker 4: now you don't have the safety depth to play three
- 13:32Speaker 4: safety nickel. Then like, what is your bigger package that
- 13:35Speaker 4: you're putting on the field? Are you just going to
- 13:38Speaker 4: put three corner nickel on the field and hope that
- 13:41Speaker 4: against two teams that want to beef up on tight
- 13:44Speaker 4: ends with the Jaguars and the bills that you're going
- 13:46Speaker 4: to be able to stop the run out of a
- 13:48Speaker 4: lighter formation?
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know if that is really going to work.
- 13:52Speaker 1: to be honest with you.
- 13:53Speaker 4: So I think that that's where, where my concern goes
- 13:55Speaker 4: with that. The next one here, the edge rushers, I
- 13:59Speaker 4: think Elijah Ponder and Gabe Ackes are certainly just.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Going to play a ton.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Like I don't really have much else to add other
- 14:05Speaker 4: than that. You know, I think the good news is,
- 14:07Speaker 4: is that it does seem like Draymond Jones avoided a
- 14:09Speaker 4: serious injury.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it, it does.
- 14:12Speaker 3: And that's another spot again, where they're thin and guys
- 14:14Speaker 3: are going to have to step up. You kind of
- 14:16Speaker 3: said it. Gabe Ackes has had this nice start here and,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I don't know that he's like a rookie of the
- 14:22Speaker 3: year favorite, right? But compared to what he looked like
- 14:24Speaker 3: in the preseason, he's gotten off to a good start,
- 14:27Speaker 3: but now there's going to be more on him.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And this is what we talked about with him.
- 14:29Speaker 3: It would be nice if they were in a spot
- 14:30Speaker 3: where they could kind of ease him in, had a
- 14:33Speaker 3: little more veteran depth ahead of them and not put
- 14:34Speaker 3: so much on his plate right away. He's going to
- 14:37Speaker 3: play a lot. And I talked about, I think I
- 14:40Speaker 3: talked about this on Tuesday. I talked about another show like,
- 14:43Speaker 3: Jose Ramirez is probably going to play.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the third guy.
- 14:48Speaker 3: And game to game, it's obviously there might be more extremes.
- 14:52Speaker 3: There were only three edge rushers last year that played
- 14:56Speaker 3: more than 80% of their team's snaps. There were only
- 14:58Speaker 3: 13 that played more than 70%. That is a rotational position.
- 15:02Speaker 3: So you're asking Gabe Ackes to shoulder a lot of
- 15:05Speaker 3: the load. And by the way, I know he's been good,
- 15:08Speaker 3: but Elijah Ponder, who was a 20% player last year,
- 15:11Speaker 3: pure pass rush guy, And you're also going to have
- 15:13Speaker 3: to kind of lean on Jose Ramirez. Now I, I
- 15:15Speaker 3: like Jose Ramirez is like a project player. I liked
- 15:18Speaker 3: him coming out of the draft, but we'll see. He's
- 15:20Speaker 3: played four NFL games in his career, mostly on special teams.
- 15:22Speaker 3: So that is going to be a really big test
- 15:24Speaker 3: for really young unit. I don't know if it's a
- 15:27Speaker 3: pro or it's a con in this game. The Jaguars
- 15:31Speaker 3: weakness of their interior of their offensive line. Spoiler has
- 15:34Speaker 3: been their interior, right? Um, So I don't know if
- 15:37Speaker 3: you look at that as well. Okay, the Patriots' weakness
- 15:40Speaker 3: goes up against the Jaguars' strength. Or, well, Barmore and
- 15:43Speaker 3: Milton Williams will have a million chances. They don't need
- 15:45Speaker 3: to lean on the rush as much. I guess that's
- 15:47Speaker 3: glass half full, glass half empty. But, yeah, it's going
- 15:50Speaker 3: to be interesting to see. And they might, I mean,
- 15:52Speaker 3: they might elevate Xavier Holmes, too. You really kind of
- 15:55Speaker 3: want four guys to get through a game.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 6: So.
- 15:58Speaker 1: They're going to be there. They're already going deep, deep
- 16:01Speaker 1: into the bag there at edge rusher.
- 16:02Speaker 4: So Q Hutchins played 16 snaps on defense last week
- 16:06Speaker 4: as the third guy, once Draymond Jones went down. So
- 16:09Speaker 4: Draymond Jones didn't go down until what the second quarter
- 16:12Speaker 4: or whatever it.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Was in the game.
- 16:14Speaker 4: So it wasn't immediate that they needed three, him as
- 16:17Speaker 4: the third guy, but just an idea like Jose Ramirez
- 16:20Speaker 4: might need to play like 20 snaps on Sunday. You know,
- 16:23Speaker 4: like that, that might be where they're at with that. Uh,
- 16:25Speaker 4: you mentioned, you know, practice squad elevations. Uh, I think
- 16:29Speaker 4: Holmes makes a little bit of sense. Mike Brown, certainly
- 16:31Speaker 4: it seems like a lot.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Uh, we, I meant to bring that up with the safeties.
- 16:35Speaker 1: You have him to his veteran. Those are probably your two, right?
- 16:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 4: I would think that they, they have to be like,
- 16:39Speaker 4: just for depth per, like you need to have guys.
- 16:42Speaker 3: If there's anywhere else, they, they don't really need a
- 16:44Speaker 3: running back anymore.
- 16:45Speaker 1: No, they shouldn't need the tight end. We'll get to
- 16:47Speaker 1: tight end. They don't need the punter.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Unless they feel like they need an extra offensive lineman. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I think they'll be all right with every place else.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I look at those two. That's his stance right now.
- 17:00Speaker 3: They can make another roster move between now and Sunday.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Last one here on the limiteds. I think the big
- 17:06Speaker 4: one is obviously Eli Raritan with the thigh. The big
- 17:10Speaker 4: thing to me here is that they need to be
- 17:14Speaker 4: able to get teams to react to 12 personnel.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:18Speaker 4: And he was able to get teams to react to
- 17:20Speaker 4: 12 personnel in a way that I honestly, they haven't
- 17:22Speaker 4: had teams react to it in recent years.
- 17:25Speaker 1: He was in Vrabel. Was it this week? He talked
- 17:27Speaker 1: about Raritan's like way ahead as a blocker.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 1: In terms of where we thought he would be, doesn't
- 17:32Speaker 1: mean he's perfect, but he's been good.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:34Speaker 3: And so that creates that conflict that you want that
- 17:36Speaker 3: personnel package to create. And they, to your point, like
- 17:40Speaker 3: Austin Hooper, wasn't, Nobody was afraid to run when Austin
- 17:42Speaker 3: Hooper came on the field.
- 17:44Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:44Speaker 1: He said he more than they would be if it
- 17:45Speaker 1: was three wide receiver. Right. Raritan was giving them that
- 17:48Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 17:49Speaker 4: So last week they threw six passes against the Steelers
- 17:52Speaker 4: base defense. They gained 76 yards. That's 12.7 yards per attempt.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It's pretty good. That's very good.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So the Steelers played 19 snaps in base defense. Now
- 18:03Speaker 4: the Patriots didn't run the ball well. They only averaged
- 18:07Speaker 4: about two yards to carry against the Steelers base defense,
- 18:10Speaker 4: but they got the Steelers to react to 12 personnel
- 18:13Speaker 4: with base defense. They were able to throw the ball
- 18:16Speaker 4: six times for 76 yards, which is really good, really
- 18:20Speaker 4: good efficiency. Almost 13 yards attempt had a big play to,
- 18:24Speaker 4: to rare it in himself in this game against base defense.
- 18:27Speaker 4: So how, you know, Tanner Arkin, uh, Cameron lot to
- 18:32Speaker 4: might get teams to put base defense on the field,
- 18:35Speaker 4: but they're not past catching threats. So like, they're not
- 18:39Speaker 4: getting that advantage of, okay, now we're in base. You're
- 18:43Speaker 4: putting the safety on Hunter Henry. You're not getting a
- 18:46Speaker 4: linebacker on a tight end that you like. which is
- 18:49Speaker 4: the difference between Raritan and these guys. So just, I
- 18:52Speaker 4: think that he's trending in a positive direction. You know,
- 18:55Speaker 4: he was limited. He did practice a little bit yesterday.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It seemed like he practiced in the later portion of practice,
- 19:01Speaker 4: maybe when team drills were going on when we weren't there.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Cause he wasn't there when we were taking attendance. So
- 19:06Speaker 4: that tells me that he came late to practice. I
- 19:11Speaker 4: would say that that's probably a good sign. You know,
- 19:13Speaker 4: you don't really need him to do positional drills and
- 19:15Speaker 4: stuff like that. If he's doing team, that means that
- 19:18Speaker 4: they they think he might have a chance to play.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So hopefully that that's a positive.
- 19:22Speaker 3: You think I don't want to get way too ahead
- 19:25Speaker 3: of ourselves here. I know it's only been two games.
- 19:28Speaker 3: If he can just show up as a blocker this week,
- 19:31Speaker 3: and that's all he can do, do you think he's
- 19:32Speaker 3: shown enough that it still has that effect and teams
- 19:34Speaker 3: have to respect, the Jaguars would have to respect him
- 19:38Speaker 3: as a receiver even if he's not ultimately a massive
- 19:41Speaker 3: part of the passing game?
- 19:42Speaker 4: It's a good question because the Jaguars don't play a
- 19:43Speaker 4: lot of base. The Jaguars are another one of these
- 19:46Speaker 4: Seahawks-y type defenses that play all.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Nickel and dime. We need to talk about what they
- 19:50Speaker 1: do with their corners. Yeah, we will.
- 19:53Speaker 4: They play a bunch of nickel and dime defense. So
- 19:56Speaker 4: I don't think that they're going to blink regardless. But
- 19:58Speaker 4: the point is that if you have a guy that's
- 20:01Speaker 4: a plus blocker, especially a plus inline blocker against nickel
- 20:05Speaker 4: and dime defense, well, now you should be able to
- 20:06Speaker 4: run the ball.
- 20:07Speaker 8: Right.
- 20:08Speaker 3: What's more important if Raritan's back this week?
- 20:11Speaker 1: That he can contribute as a blocker, contribute as a receiver?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Probably as a blocker. That's what I'm saying.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Just because of the way Jacksonville plays defensively.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So if it's one of those things where he can
- 20:19Speaker 3: just give you that for this week, just this week, right?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 3: And then you go from there. But even if they
- 20:25Speaker 3: can get him in that regard this week, that would
- 20:28Speaker 3: be helpful.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Okay, so those are all the iffy or just flat-out
- 20:33Speaker 4: not playing guys besides H.J.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Brown.
- 20:36Speaker 4: But one sliver of positive news is that Carlton Davis
- 20:40Speaker 4: was back at practice yesterday as a full participant. So
- 20:43Speaker 4: it sounds like Carlton Davis is trending towards.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Playing on Sunday.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Which they need because the Jaguars have a depth of,
- 20:50Speaker 3: Weapons on offense.
- 20:51Speaker 1: They do have three receivers.
- 20:52Speaker 4: I thought Charles Woods did a nice job last week,
- 20:56Speaker 4: given that he's at the.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Fourth quarter and all that. Yeah, to step up in
- 20:59Speaker 1: competition this week. I would agree with that. I think
- 21:02Speaker 1: it's a little bit.
- 21:02Speaker 6: All right.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So, uh, those are the injuries.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Uh, I want to move on to our Jaguars preview
- 21:08Speaker 4: right now. And I think we did key matchups of
- 21:12Speaker 4: last season, but yeah, that's like our segment.
- 21:14Speaker 1: That's a staple.
- 21:15Speaker 4: We have been doing key matchups since, uh, since the
- 21:18Speaker 4: Clintus days, since 2018, which was the last time that
- 21:23Speaker 4: the Patriots played the Jaguars in Jacksonville.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And I was at that game.
- 21:27Speaker 4: It was my very first road trip as a credentialed reporter, uh, was.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Jacksonville, 2018.
- 21:32Speaker 4: It was week two or three of the season, super
- 21:34Speaker 4: early in the season. It was 110 degrees.
- 21:38Speaker 1: It was so hot.
- 21:39Speaker 4: I have not experienced heat like that very often.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Doesn't this spot kind of feel like that spot? Now,
- 21:46Speaker 3: it's supposed to be 81 on Saturday in Jacksonville. I
- 21:48Speaker 3: don't want to look at Saturday. 84 on Sunday in Jacksonville.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Thank goodness. College football brain.
- 21:52Speaker 4: It was 110.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'm not even exaggerating. It was triple digits.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Humidity is 56. It does kind of feel like that spot, though.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Same thing.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Coming off the Super Bowl, both teams were in the
- 22:05Speaker 3: playoffs the year before. Jaguars was something to prove.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It was their Super Bowl.
- 22:11Speaker 4: And I don't say that as a spoiled Patriots fan.
- 22:14Speaker 4: The Patriots had just beaten the Jaguars in the AFC
- 22:17Speaker 4: Championship game the year before.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Miles Jack happens. The Steph Gilmore breakup.
- 22:22Speaker 4: There's some things that happened in that game that Jaguars
- 22:25Speaker 4: fans think they got jobbed out of the game. They
- 22:28Speaker 4: were much more competitive in the game than anybody thought
- 22:30Speaker 4: they were going to be, by the way. That was
- 22:32Speaker 4: Blake Bortles. That team had talent, but was.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Kind of a.
- 22:39Speaker 4: out of nowhere, AFC championship game, uh, participant and the
- 22:43Speaker 4: Patriots won that game. I remember that that place was for,
- 22:49Speaker 4: was rocking. Like they, it was a huge game down
- 22:53Speaker 4: there in Jacksonville and the Patriots got waxed.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Like it was not competitive. The score was only 31 20.
- 22:58Speaker 3: It felt a lot wider than that because it was
- 23:01Speaker 3: the Jags put up 480 total yards of offense.
- 23:05Speaker 1: The Patriots only had 302. It was not.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Overly competitive for a Brady Belichick Patriot team. It was
- 23:11Speaker 4: not overly competitive.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I remember especially the Jaguars offense versus the Patriots defense.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Brady kind of kept them in it a little bit.
- 23:18Speaker 3: The Jags, I pulled up the box score because I
- 23:20Speaker 3: was curious. This is kind of eye-popping. The Jags were
- 23:24Speaker 3: 10 of 14 on third down in that game.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That's what I remember. It was just methodical. They killed them.
- 23:29Speaker 3: They didn't come off the field on a hot day.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Let's see if I can find the temperature here.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Whatever it says, add 10 degrees because the humidity.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It says 97.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It was in like... 97 with 15 mile an hour winds.
- 23:42Speaker 4: And I know this is going to sound like such
- 23:44Speaker 4: a first world problem, but even in the press box,
- 23:47Speaker 4: which is supposed to be air conditioned, it was still
- 23:49Speaker 4: 100 degrees because it was so hot that even the
- 23:52Speaker 4: AC in the stadium was having trouble keeping up with
- 23:55Speaker 4: keeping the place cool.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Like I said.
- 23:59Speaker 4: It started in the morning when I walked out of
- 24:01Speaker 4: my hotel in the morning to go to the game,
- 24:04Speaker 4: to go to the stadium, and I saw an alligator
- 24:08Speaker 4: in the parking lot.
- 24:10Speaker 8: Okay.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Literally like 10 feet in front of my Uber was
- 24:13Speaker 4: an alligator just staring at me. And I actually walked
- 24:16Speaker 4: by the front desk on the way out of the
- 24:18Speaker 4: hotel and the front desk, uh, one of the people
- 24:21Speaker 4: at the front desk said, Hey, like just an FYI,
- 24:24Speaker 4: like there's an alligator in the parking lot. And I
- 24:28Speaker 4: didn't think they were serious. And I was just like, Oh, okay.
- 24:31Speaker 4: And they were like, yeah, just like, don't get too
- 24:33Speaker 4: close to like, they, they leave you alone unless you
- 24:35Speaker 4: like get into their, their airspace or whatever. And I
- 24:38Speaker 4: was like, okay, sure. And I walked out and sure enough,
- 24:40Speaker 4: there was just a, an alligator staring back.
- 24:43Speaker 1: At me, some Florida man stuff. Yeah. And it was
- 24:46Speaker 1: a hundred degrees and there's fricking Gators. It was crazy.
- 24:49Speaker 4: And then the Patriots just got absolutely boat raced by
- 24:53Speaker 4: the Jaguars in that game. Anyways, enough memory lane. So
- 24:57Speaker 4: go into the Jaguars. I want to have a discussion
- 25:00Speaker 4: because I know that this has become a discourse, has
- 25:02Speaker 4: become a thing. You mentioned it in the clip that
- 25:05Speaker 4: Ace played in the open.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Cover six.
- 25:07Speaker 4: Cover six has now become, like I said earlier, it's
- 25:10Speaker 4: Baltimore of the Patriots football team right now. You don't
- 25:14Speaker 4: want to talk about it. I want to give you
- 25:17Speaker 4: the stats of Drake May against cover six.
- 25:20Speaker 1: With one caveat.
- 25:22Speaker 4: And then I also want to discuss what it is.
- 25:25Speaker 4: And then also some things in my mind that.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Maybe could beat it.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:29Speaker 4: So, uh, the first thing I want to do is
- 25:32Speaker 4: explain though, and why I'm talking about this so much,
- 25:35Speaker 4: the Jaguars play the second highest cover six rate in
- 25:38Speaker 4: the league since the start of 2025. 19.6% over the
- 25:42Speaker 4: last two years. The only team that plays more cover
- 25:45Speaker 4: six defensively is the Eagles who Vic Fangio is the
- 25:48Speaker 4: defensive coordinator.
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's their thing. It's literally his.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Coverage that he essentially coined, right? So they only play
- 25:56Speaker 4: collar defensively that plays more cover six than Anthony Campanella
- 26:01Speaker 4: is literally.
- 26:02Speaker 1: The godfather of the coverage, right?
- 26:04Speaker 4: So that, that's why we're talking about it again this week.
- 26:08Speaker 4: And I want to, put two interesting pieces of context
- 26:11Speaker 4: in here. So the first one is looking at Drake
- 26:15Speaker 4: Mays volume of dropbacks against cover six. He only, since
- 26:19Speaker 4: the start of 2025, so both seasons, he only has
- 26:22Speaker 4: 54 total dropbacks against cover six.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Okay.
- 26:25Speaker 4: So that's like a shootout game, you know, like, like
- 26:29Speaker 4: maybe a game in a, like six quarters of football,
- 26:31Speaker 4: five quarters of football in a regular game in terms
- 26:34Speaker 4: of dropbacks. Um, So it's not a ton. It's not
- 26:37Speaker 4: a huge sample size. The other thing that I would
- 26:39Speaker 4: throw in there is that, ironically, the cover six numbers
- 26:46Speaker 4: get a little bit wonky because the fourth quarter of
- 26:49Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, Seattle just played cover six on every
- 26:53Speaker 4: single snap in the fourth quarter of a blowout, and
- 26:57Speaker 4: the Patriots got some garbage time points and touchdowns in
- 27:00Speaker 4: the fourth quarter. So Drake Mays' cover six numbers, if
- 27:03Speaker 4: you include the Super Bowl, actually go up, not down.
- 27:06Speaker 4: which feels backwards, right? It feels like it shouldn't be
- 27:09Speaker 4: the case. So here are his stats on.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Against in the 54 dropbacks against cover six, he's 27
- 27:17Speaker 4: to 44. That's 61.4% against all other coverages. His completion
- 27:23Speaker 4: percentage is over 70%.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 4: He has two interceptions, zero touchdowns, 5.9 yards per pass attempt.
- 27:31Speaker 4: The big number, his EPA per dropback against cover six
- 27:34Speaker 4: since the start of 2025 is 30th out of 39
- 27:38Speaker 4: qualified quarterbacks.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So bottom of the league.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 4: And against all other coverages in the NFL, uh, Cover one,
- 27:45Speaker 4: cover two, cover three, quarters. He's number one in the
- 27:48Speaker 4: league in EPA per dropback since the start of 2025.
- 27:51Speaker 4: So he's literally the best quarterback in the league against
- 27:54Speaker 4: every other coverage, and he's one of the worst quarterbacks
- 27:57Speaker 4: in the league specifically against cover six, which I think
- 28:00Speaker 4: is kind of bizarre. But he's fine against cover two,
- 28:05Speaker 4: and he's fine against quarters, cover four, but he's not
- 28:08Speaker 4: fine against a combination of cover two and quarters.
- 28:11Speaker 1: So is it because... he sees cover six and assumes
- 28:15Speaker 1: it's cover two and cover four and goes to the
- 28:16Speaker 1: wrong side.
- 28:17Speaker 4: That, that thought has crossed my mind is because, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 4: with McDaniels, he's asking him to coverage, right? So like,
- 28:24Speaker 4: he's asking him to pick sides based off of what
- 28:26Speaker 4: he thinks the coverage is. So I thought he actually,
- 28:29Speaker 4: I asked him about it yesterday and I thought he
- 28:30Speaker 4: actually gave a really good explanation of what teams are
- 28:33Speaker 4: trying to do against you. So just to simplify it,
- 28:36Speaker 4: you kind of give you an idea of the distribution
- 28:38Speaker 4: of where all the defenders are. it's quarter, quarter, half, right?
- 28:41Speaker 4: So one side of the field is quarters or cover four,
- 28:44Speaker 4: and one side of the field is cover two. So
- 28:47Speaker 4: what they're doing typically, and this is what Drake May said,
- 28:50Speaker 4: is they're trying to take away the one-on-ones on the outside.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Right.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Because everybody knows that Drake May wants one-on-one matchup and
- 28:58Speaker 4: to throw the goal ball to a one-on-one matchup.
- 28:59Speaker 1: You don't want to play cover two against him because
- 29:01Speaker 1: he's going to put it in the hole.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 29:03Speaker 3: But you don't want to play... full cover for against him.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Cause then there's too much underneath.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:08Speaker 4: And, and you're really one-on-one on the outside in quarters.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Like there's really nothing. Right.
- 29:14Speaker 4: So what they're doing is they're clouding the side of
- 29:17Speaker 4: the field, which means they have a corner underneath the
- 29:20Speaker 4: receiver and they have a safety over the top of
- 29:22Speaker 4: the receiver. It's not a true double team, but it
- 29:24Speaker 4: has the same, uh, Concept of a double team. Right.
- 29:27Speaker 4: And so the Patriots are a big three by one
- 29:30Speaker 4: formation team, three receivers to one side, one receiver to
- 29:34Speaker 4: the other. And Drake may loves throwing the go ball
- 29:37Speaker 4: to the backside receiver, the one solo side.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Receiver. So what they're.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Doing a lot of the time is they're playing cover
- 29:44Speaker 4: two to the solo side, to the one receiver side,
- 29:47Speaker 4: so that they have that cloud over the top of
- 29:49Speaker 4: the vertical. And then they're boxing the other side.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Of the field.
- 29:52Speaker 4: So they have four over three on the other side
- 29:54Speaker 4: of the field. So they're basically numbers on both sides.
- 29:59Speaker 4: of the formation in this situation. They're four over three
- 30:02Speaker 4: to the three receiver side and they're two over one
- 30:05Speaker 4: on the one receiver side. So that's why this is
- 30:07Speaker 4: giving the Patriots offense so many problems is because it
- 30:11Speaker 4: just kind of takes away their bread and butter. It
- 30:13Speaker 4: takes away their three by one formation. It takes away
- 30:15Speaker 4: the solo, uh, go ball, the backside, you know, go
- 30:18Speaker 4: ball that Drake may likes to throw. And it kind
- 30:21Speaker 4: of puts them in a murky spot. So how do
- 30:24Speaker 4: you go about beating cover six.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Well, really quickly.
- 30:28Speaker 4: The one other thing that he said yesterday that I
- 30:30Speaker 4: thought was really important was about the, the field safety
- 30:34Speaker 4: being able to come up and run support. I think
- 30:36Speaker 4: that that's a really underrated about part about quarters is
- 30:40Speaker 4: that that freeze field safety is free to run the alley.
- 30:45Speaker 4: So when he reads run, uh, to the passing strength,
- 30:48Speaker 4: he can just come downhill on the run play quickly.
- 30:51Speaker 4: So even though it is split safety, uh, it becomes
- 30:54Speaker 4: kind of single high safety real quick once you hand
- 30:57Speaker 4: the ball off. So you're thinking like, okay, we'll run it.
- 31:01Speaker 4: And then you're also probably thinking, we'll run it to
- 31:05Speaker 4: where you have the strength of the formation to, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 4: let's call it Drake Mays, right?
- 31:10Speaker 1: You know, where the three receivers are.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Well, if you run it to that side of the
- 31:14Speaker 4: field where the field safety is, he's going to do
- 31:16Speaker 4: what's called fast fill. He's just going to come downhill
- 31:19Speaker 4: like a bat out of hell. And now all of
- 31:21Speaker 4: a sudden there is another hat in the box that
- 31:23Speaker 4: you have to account for. So he mentioned just that,
- 31:26Speaker 4: that you have to fit that safety. So now you
- 31:28Speaker 4: have to make sure you have enough blockers that are
- 31:30Speaker 4: going in that direction to fit that safety. So this
- 31:34Speaker 4: is this is like advanced level stuff. And I put
- 31:39Speaker 4: most of the onus on kind of taking down this
- 31:42Speaker 4: blueprint on Josh McDaniels because I think that they need
- 31:46Speaker 4: to come up with change-ups.
- 31:48Speaker 1: They can't be three-by-one heavy.
- 31:49Speaker 4: They have to find different passing concepts to open up
- 31:53Speaker 4: cover six.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Because you can't really play cover six against two-by-two, right?
- 31:58Speaker 1: It's a lot harder. You could.
- 31:59Speaker 4: They have different checks for it. But, like, I think
- 32:01Speaker 4: what the difference would be is, like, you could... With
- 32:04Speaker 4: two receivers to both sides of the formation, you could
- 32:07Speaker 4: run quarters beaters to one side and cover two beaters
- 32:10Speaker 4: to the other and then just kind of hope that
- 32:12Speaker 4: you guess right to which side they're running which.
- 32:14Speaker 1: So, is there.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Because you've dug very deep into this, so I'm going
- 32:20Speaker 3: to ask some questions that might seem basic.
- 32:22Speaker 1: That's fine.
- 32:23Speaker 4: I think that this is important to have this conversation.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Is the cover two always on the backside?
- 32:29Speaker 8: No.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Now, I would say the majority of the time it's
- 32:32Speaker 4: on the backside because you don't want to be three
- 32:36Speaker 4: over two on the other side.
- 32:37Speaker 10: Right.
- 32:37Speaker 4: So most of the time, but there are— But you've
- 32:40Speaker 4: got to.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Throw in the tendency breakers.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Right, so there's modifications to it to allow them to
- 32:44Speaker 4: cloud the other side of the field.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Which is basically cover eight, right?
- 32:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Okay, so... Good job. Thank you. Is there.
- 32:50Speaker 3: At some point, we should do cover one through cover...
- 32:53Speaker 3: There's no cover nine, right?
- 32:54Speaker 1: There is. Well, in Fangio world, there is. Okay. There's
- 32:57Speaker 1: no cover ten, right?
- 32:58Speaker 5: No.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I know three. Is there... Do you... And if you
- 33:02Speaker 1: don't have the exact number, I don't expect you to
- 33:04Speaker 1: have the exact number. Okay. Is there a split for
- 33:07Speaker 1: Drake May... when the the when they cloud the cover two.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Side is on the back side versus the stack and
- 33:14Speaker 3: then the other split i would be curious about and
- 33:19Speaker 3: it maybe it's too early you said there's only 54
- 33:21Speaker 3: snaps so maybe we don't even have the data size
- 33:23Speaker 3: at this point yeah the other split i would be
- 33:25Speaker 3: curious about is just may throwing to the cover two
- 33:29Speaker 3: side of cover six versus may throwing through the quarter
- 33:32Speaker 3: side of cover six.
- 33:33Speaker 4: It's a great point. I don't have that data handy,
- 33:37Speaker 4: but I hope that they do. Like, I hope that
- 33:39Speaker 4: this is stuff that they're looking at.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Well, so now you have homework for next week, too.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I do.
- 33:44Speaker 4: And I've already watched all 54 dropbacks of cover six
- 33:46Speaker 4: because I'm a nerd.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Off the top of your head, any sort of trends
- 33:50Speaker 3: like that that stand out?
- 33:50Speaker 1: I would say that the.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Trend is that they usually play it to the one
- 33:54Speaker 4: receiver side. So they're clouding the solo receiver side.
- 33:57Speaker 6: But May.
- 33:58Speaker 1: How about May throwing to... You said he likes to
- 34:03Speaker 1: throw to the backside. He likes to throw to the backside.
- 34:05Speaker 1: But these miscues versus... Versus are usually coming on... When
- 34:09Speaker 1: he throws to the backside.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Yeah, to the three-receiver side.
- 34:11Speaker 1: To the three-receiver side.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Because he's coming off the backside knowing he doesn't have it.
- 34:16Speaker 10: Right.
- 34:16Speaker 4: And so he's coming to the three-receiver side, and then
- 34:19Speaker 4: he's late to the three-receiver side.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Does he maybe think he's throwing in a cover, too?
- 34:23Speaker 1: going to the quarter side.
- 34:24Speaker 4: It's possible, but I feel like this is too much
- 34:27Speaker 4: of a blueprint at this point for him to not
- 34:30Speaker 4: understand the coverage. And the explanation that he gave yesterday
- 34:33Speaker 4: was spot on. Like, that's exactly what they're doing. So
- 34:37Speaker 4: I think that he understands it. Now, obviously doing it
- 34:40Speaker 4: When it's live, it's a different thing than going up
- 34:42Speaker 4: on the podium or the whiteboard.
- 34:44Speaker 1: And talking about it. That's why they have the virtual. Right.
- 34:47Speaker 4: So the interception to Pop Douglas in the opener, when
- 34:50Speaker 4: he tries to split the safeties up the seam, that's
- 34:53Speaker 4: cover six.
- 34:54Speaker 6: And.
- 34:55Speaker 4: What they do with the safety, Seattle kind of clouded
- 34:58Speaker 4: both sides of the field. It was a game plan
- 35:01Speaker 4: wrinkle for third and pass. They clouded both sides of
- 35:03Speaker 4: the field. That was tricky. These are good defensive schemes.
- 35:08Speaker 4: This is why this scheme is becoming more and more
- 35:11Speaker 4: popular is because it's good. It's working against a lot
- 35:14Speaker 4: of these offenses.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Well, this was quarters for a while when every offense
- 35:18Speaker 3: got super vertical and then teams figured out how to
- 35:21Speaker 3: beat quarters.
- 35:21Speaker 4: Correct. I think what teams figured out with quarters, and
- 35:23Speaker 4: then we do have to take a quick break, is
- 35:25Speaker 4: that really quarters becomes man-to-man on the outside.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 35:30Speaker 4: You know, because the safeties inside are kind of poaching.
- 35:32Speaker 4: They're looking for like crossing routes and posts and things
- 35:35Speaker 4: like that. So if you can get the verticals on
- 35:38Speaker 4: the outside, then you're kind of running it one-on-one.
- 35:41Speaker 3: I think they also figured out that there's less resources.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Underneath and you can just kind of dink and dunk
- 35:46Speaker 1: on quarters.
- 35:46Speaker 4: So it's like the flats, you know, you can throw
- 35:48Speaker 4: the flats and you can throw the go ball or
- 35:50Speaker 4: the deep post, the big post down the field.
- 35:52Speaker 8: Right.
- 35:52Speaker 1: On quarters.
- 35:53Speaker 4: So this is like sort of a, a more exotic.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Quarters is essentially what it is.
- 35:58Speaker 4: Uh, and, uh, you know, it's given them problems and I,
- 36:01Speaker 4: I fully expect Campanella to know that, uh, he's, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 4: a Fangio guy, he's sort of a Mike McDonald, uh,
- 36:07Speaker 4: tree kind of guy. I expect them to call plenty
- 36:10Speaker 4: of it on Sunday and we'll, we'll see how the Patriots, uh,
- 36:13Speaker 4: solve those problems. Uh, one more thing on the, on the, uh,
- 36:16Speaker 4: Jaguars defense, and then we got to take this break. Um,
- 36:20Speaker 4: I'm kind of hoping that the Patriots take the training
- 36:22Speaker 4: wheels off of Will Campbell a little bit in this game.
- 36:25Speaker 4: We talked about this on Tuesday. They're giving Will Campbell
- 36:28Speaker 4: a lot of help. They're giving the offensive line in
- 36:30Speaker 4: general a lot of help. There's a lot of chips.
- 36:32Speaker 4: There's a lot of moving pockets. There's a lot of
- 36:35Speaker 4: seven-man pass protection off play action. He's passed the test
- 36:39Speaker 4: so far. It's been two really good games. I like
- 36:42Speaker 4: Josh Heinz-Allen. He's not Will Anderson or Nick Benito or...
- 36:47Speaker 4: TJ Watt or whoever, like, I think that Will Campbell
- 36:51Speaker 4: has kind of earned some trust here that he's playing
- 36:53Speaker 4: at a pretty good level. If you can get five
- 36:56Speaker 4: in the pattern against these zone coverage teams, that's always ideal.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Well, I, on what this might or might not be like,
- 37:02Speaker 3: it depends how they feel about Van Roten, right?
- 37:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 3: It might be, no, we need to help the line
- 37:06Speaker 3: more because there's backup in there. Maybe it's, they needed
- 37:09Speaker 3: to send more help towards Van Roten. So that leaves
- 37:11Speaker 3: Campbell on one more real quick on the Jaguar defense.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Before we go to break.
- 37:15Speaker 3: As we keep saying, I know where we go to
- 37:17Speaker 3: interesting trend. Maybe it's just two weeks. It means nothing,
- 37:20Speaker 3: but I found this fascinating. This is a very me stat.
- 37:22Speaker 3: You're going to get annoyed by this.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I love it.
- 37:24Speaker 3: It's very, we talked about this on Tuesday. The Patriots
- 37:27Speaker 3: need to stay on schedule. They had all those big
- 37:29Speaker 3: plays in last week, but then had all the miscues
- 37:32Speaker 3: immediately after the Jaguars are one of the best third
- 37:37Speaker 3: down defenses in football through two weeks. I know people
- 37:39Speaker 3: are going to, some people are going to say, Oh,
- 37:41Speaker 3: they played the Browns, whatever. Like the numbers are relatively
- 37:44Speaker 3: beat the bucks. And the numbers are relatively even against
- 37:46Speaker 3: the Browns and the Broncos in all of this. One
- 37:49Speaker 3: of the best third down defenses in the NFL. I
- 37:53Speaker 3: think it's four of 19 is the number. But teams
- 37:58Speaker 3: have only run 22 third downs against the Jaguars.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Yeah. They're one of the worst defenses at getting to third. Sorry, 19.
- 38:07Speaker 3: They're one of the worst defenses at getting to third downs.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Against Jacksonville. Because on first and second down. They've been
- 38:14Speaker 3: really bad. Second down especially. The Jaguars are allowing. Seven
- 38:19Speaker 3: yards per play. Which is the third highest in the league.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Of the 40 defensive second downs. The Jaguars have had.
- 38:26Speaker 3: 17 have gone for first downs.
- 38:29Speaker 1: You texted. Nearly half. This is such a bar step.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Maybe a statistical outlier through two weeks.
- 38:34Speaker 4: How do they play when it's like 80 and sunny
- 38:37Speaker 4: on a Monday?
- 38:38Speaker 3: Well, no, because this is the stuff analytics leaves out.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Here's my point. That's the stuff.
- 38:44Speaker 3: This is a team that through two weeks has, for
- 38:48Speaker 3: the most part, allowed offenses to stay on schedule.
- 38:51Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Allowed offenses to stay ahead of the six.
- 38:54Speaker 4: They haven't been great through two weeks defensively. They have
- 38:56Speaker 4: a great scheme.
- 38:57Speaker 1: So they've been great when they get to third down. Okay.
- 39:00Speaker 3: They struggled to get... Teams are moving down the field
- 39:03Speaker 3: first down, second down, first down, second.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Down, first down, second down.
- 39:05Speaker 4: That makes sense because he's got a great pressure package
- 39:07Speaker 4: on third down.
- 39:08Speaker 3: So the Patriots need to be on schedule. It's something
- 39:11Speaker 3: Drake may talk about this week. It's something Mike Vrabel
- 39:13Speaker 3: has talked about. This is an offense that, or defense
- 39:16Speaker 3: that you should be able to stay on schedule against,
- 39:19Speaker 3: but they.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Will kill you if you don't. And that is going
- 39:22Speaker 1: to be a key to me to this game.
- 39:23Speaker 4: All right, we're going to take a quick break and
- 39:24Speaker 4: then we're going to do key matchups and Pat's Jags.

- 42:31Speaker 4: Key matchups in Patriots Jaguars. We'll talk a little bit
- 42:35Speaker 4: more about the Jaguars offense in this. I know we
- 42:37Speaker 4: just did a lot on the Jaguars defense. I want
- 42:40Speaker 4: to start with the matchups for the Patriots cornerbacks against
- 42:44Speaker 4: this wide receiver trio. To me, that feels like the
- 42:47Speaker 4: biggest thing they got going here.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Parker Washington.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Parker Washington is the engine of the Jaguars offense. The
- 42:55Speaker 4: only player in the league right now that has a
- 42:58Speaker 4: higher target share, so percentage of his team targets, than
- 43:02Speaker 4: Parker Washington is Jackson Smith and Jigba. He is number
- 43:05Speaker 4: two in the league in target share. This feels like
- 43:08Speaker 4: a Marcus Jones matchup, Alex, but when you have a
- 43:12Speaker 4: player that's that dominant in terms of volume, I do
- 43:16Speaker 4: feel like Christian Gonzalez is lurking a little bit as well.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Yeah i mean but like you said they have a
- 43:21Speaker 3: really good corner slot corner and marcus jones you know
- 43:25Speaker 3: if they're in two receiver and i don't russian doesn't
- 43:29Speaker 3: line up a ton outside though even.
- 43:31Speaker 4: It's like a 50 50 split because they're in so
- 43:33Speaker 4: many two receivers.
- 43:33Speaker 3: So i maybe when it's two receiver set when it's
- 43:35Speaker 3: in three i wouldn't because they got two good boundary
- 43:38Speaker 3: receivers too like i i keep christian is also the
- 43:41Speaker 3: outside and Marcus Jones, Parker Washington should be a really
- 43:44Speaker 3: good matchup.
- 43:44Speaker 1: It should be.
- 43:46Speaker 4: He runs across the field a lot. He's like a
- 43:48Speaker 4: crosser type of receiver. He runs across around like 25%
- 43:52Speaker 4: of his routes. So Marcus Jones keeping up with Parker Washington.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Christian Gonzalez probably taking Brian Thomas Jr. or Jacoby Myers,
- 44:01Speaker 4: whoever the outside receiver is.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I think that makes the most sense.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Uh, I just wonder if like key third downs, do
- 44:08Speaker 4: you put Gonzalez on Parker Washington?
- 44:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Cause that's Trevor Lawrence's guy. Like that's clearly the guy
- 44:14Speaker 1: he's feeding.
- 44:15Speaker 4: So I do wonder if you do that, but I
- 44:16Speaker 4: think Marcus Jones, uh, running across the field with Parker
- 44:20Speaker 4: Washington makes the most sense. Uh, the other one that
- 44:23Speaker 4: I had written down are a couple more that I
- 44:25Speaker 4: had written down were actually, uh, Christian Barmore and Milton
- 44:29Speaker 4: Williams against specifically their rookie left guard, Emmanuel Pregnant, who
- 44:35Speaker 4: had a tough game last week against Zach Allen, gave
- 44:37Speaker 4: up four pressures to Zach Allen. I feel like their
- 44:41Speaker 4: interior offensive line is the weak point. They want to
- 44:43Speaker 4: run the football. I think that those two guys in
- 44:46Speaker 4: the middle, they got to do some wrecking. They got
- 44:48Speaker 4: to wreak some havoc in there.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Big, big week for them, especially as we talked about
- 44:51Speaker 3: earlier with the lack of depth on the edge. I
- 44:53Speaker 3: think that You're really turned to now. It's been mostly
- 44:57Speaker 3: teams focusing on Milton Williams. So Christian Barmore has gotten
- 45:01Speaker 3: off to the stronger start.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Obviously had a great game last week. I will be
- 45:05Speaker 1: interested to see.
- 45:07Speaker 3: This, if we start to see teams maybe pay some
- 45:09Speaker 3: more attention to Barmore and Milt Williams gets free.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that that's a big one. You know,
- 45:14Speaker 4: Ezra Cleveland kind of struggled in that game too. Their
- 45:16Speaker 4: right guard, their center's pretty good. But I think those
- 45:19Speaker 4: two guys can be had. The last one that I
- 45:21Speaker 4: had here was Josh Hines-Allen against Will Campbell. And I'm
- 45:24Speaker 4: like dying right here. I might need to go to
- 45:25Speaker 4: the bathroom. But Josh Hines-Allen and Will Campbell.
- 45:27Speaker 1: We just had a break. I know.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Can we take another break real quick? Yeah, we got

- 50:22Speaker 1: The YouTube chat thinks you fell in.
- 50:24Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, but since yesterday, my stomach
- 50:28Speaker 4: has just been a wreck.
- 50:29Speaker 1: All right, all right, all right. Terrible. Just terrible. I'm
- 50:32Speaker 1: sure this is what the people want to hear about.
- 50:33Speaker 4: I mean, I got to explain myself. I just ran
- 50:36Speaker 4: off the set. I got to tell people what happened. Anyways,
- 50:41Speaker 4: Will Campbell against Josh Heinz Allen. Hopefully, Will Campbell's stomach
- 50:45Speaker 4: feels better than mine.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Like I said, I would like to see them take.
- 50:52Speaker 4: The training wheels off of Will Campbell a little bit.
- 50:55Speaker 4: I think he's kind of earned it. I think he
- 50:56Speaker 4: looks great. He looks healthy. Let's see what he's like
- 51:00Speaker 4: one-on-one pass pro against a good rusher. It's not a
- 51:02Speaker 4: great rusher, though.
- 51:03Speaker 1: It's a good rusher. What are they saying about me
- 51:05Speaker 1: in the chat? That you fell in. I didn't fall in.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I just... I have digestive issues. You know this. Yeah,
- 51:14Speaker 1: I don't think people want to hear about him. Let's
- 51:15Speaker 1: just talk football. I mean, I'm sorry. I'm just saying.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Tell them what happened. Anyways....
- 51:23Speaker 4: I would like to see them trust Will Campbell a
- 51:25Speaker 4: little bit more in this game. Last week, Garrett Bowles
- 51:28Speaker 4: shut Josh Heinz Allen out. Zero pressures in the game
- 51:31Speaker 4: last week. Now Garrett Bowles, all pro first team, all
- 51:34Speaker 4: pro left tackle. So he's a great player, but I
- 51:38Speaker 4: just look at it and say, I think that Campbell can,
- 51:41Speaker 4: can control this matchup or at least, uh, draw even
- 51:44Speaker 4: in this matchup and maybe without all of the sort
- 51:48Speaker 4: of schematic emphasis that they're putting on the offensive line,
- 51:52Speaker 4: you know, making sure the offensive line is taken care of.
- 51:55Speaker 4: If we take the training wheels off a little bit,
- 51:58Speaker 4: maybe they can get the ball, the passing game going
- 52:00Speaker 4: a little bit more. by running some more creative route
- 52:03Speaker 4: combinations down the field with four or five guys releasing
- 52:07Speaker 4: down the field into the pattern. On the other side,
- 52:09Speaker 4: it's usually Trayvon Walker going up against Morgan Moses. That's
- 52:13Speaker 4: another one that you could certainly circle. Trayvon Walker is
- 52:16Speaker 4: kind of, in my opinion, I don't know if he's
- 52:18Speaker 4: ever lived up to truly being the number one overall
- 52:21Speaker 4: pick in a draft, but he's a freak athlete, really
- 52:25Speaker 4: good player against the run and pass. I think both
- 52:28Speaker 4: those guys... I'm not as worried about the interior guys
- 52:32Speaker 4: in this game. Like I kind of was the last
- 52:34Speaker 4: two weeks. Now I, you know, I'm looking at those
- 52:36Speaker 4: edge guys is like, those are the game wreckers. I
- 52:38Speaker 4: would say in this Jaguars defense.
- 52:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:40Speaker 3: Those are the guys that'll really give you some trouble. Um,
- 52:43Speaker 3: like you said that the production hasn't been there, but
- 52:45Speaker 3: there's talent and you don't want to be the team
- 52:47Speaker 3: that lets that talent get going.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 4: We got any more of those or what, what, uh,
- 52:52Speaker 4: any more key matchups or did I go through them all?
- 52:54Speaker 3: Um, I think just the cornerback position on the other
- 52:58Speaker 3: side is an interesting one to me. Not really a matchup,
- 53:01Speaker 3: but so the Jaguars don't play any of their corners
- 53:02Speaker 3: truly full-time.
- 53:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:04Speaker 3: They have four guys that play basically between 50 and 75%
- 53:07Speaker 3: of the snaps. Travis Hunter kind of towards the bottom
- 53:11Speaker 3: of that at 58.4. So you mentioned Will Campbell, interesting
- 53:14Speaker 3: storyline here, two of the top picks from that draft, but...
- 53:18Speaker 3: you know, that's somewhere where maybe the Patriots and Taylor
- 53:22Speaker 3: Kyle's credit him at the staff Jaguars has been one
- 53:24Speaker 3: of the worst deep past defenses in the NFL through
- 53:26Speaker 3: two weeks.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Get those guys running. Get those guys running.
- 53:30Speaker 3: Get them gassed. Don't let them get in a rhythm.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Maybe some of those quick hitters. Maybe this is where
- 53:35Speaker 3: we see some of that tempo and even some no
- 53:37Speaker 3: huddle to get those.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Keep those corners on the field.
- 53:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Where they're used to playing a little less. So that,
- 53:43Speaker 3: I mean, there's good players. Like Travis Hunter's a good player.
- 53:46Speaker 3: Jordan Lewis is a good player.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Good nickel.
- 53:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Like for what he does.
- 53:50Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 53:51Speaker 3: I don't really know why they rotate like this. I
- 53:53Speaker 3: haven't seen a good explanation for it.
- 53:55Speaker 1: I haven't either.
- 53:56Speaker 4: And it's very like package specific. Right.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Like when they want to run certain things.
- 54:00Speaker 4: And like if I'm the Patriots and I'm Josh McDaniels,
- 54:03Speaker 4: I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Right. Is there a tell? Does it make them predictable?
- 54:07Speaker 4: Like are they running certain coverages with these players?
- 54:10Speaker 1: Are they, you know?
- 54:11Speaker 4: Are these players playing in certain situations and they don't
- 54:14Speaker 4: want them in these other situations? Like you mentioned, no huddle. Well,
- 54:18Speaker 4: if they don't, I'm just using as an example, I
- 54:20Speaker 4: don't know this. If they only want Jordan Lewis to
- 54:23Speaker 4: play on passing situations, well, can you hit a first down,
- 54:27Speaker 4: keep Jordan Lewis on the field and start running the
- 54:29Speaker 4: ball and start running the ball?
- 54:30Speaker 1: You know, cause I'm right at him. He plays in
- 54:32Speaker 1: the slides.
- 54:32Speaker 4: Right. And obviously they feel like he's he I'm not
- 54:35Speaker 4: saying he is. I'm just saying hypothetically that that player
- 54:38Speaker 4: is a is a detriment to their run defense.
- 54:40Speaker 10: Right.
- 54:40Speaker 4: So if you can get him caught or their past defense,
- 54:43Speaker 4: you know, vice versa. So those are the things that
- 54:45Speaker 4: I agree with. I we don't have a ton of
- 54:48Speaker 4: time left, but I did want to because, you know,
- 54:50Speaker 4: of my issue, I did want to talk about Travis
- 54:52Speaker 4: Hunter and what's going on there. I'll be the first
- 54:55Speaker 4: one to say it like I was a Travis Hunter guy.
- 54:58Speaker 4: I really was high on him as a prospect. I
- 55:00Speaker 4: just thought he was a tremendous player in college. This
- 55:03Speaker 4: has been a weird go of it in 60 seconds
- 55:06Speaker 4: of what exactly is going on with Travis Hunter.
- 55:08Speaker 3: We said this at the time. Travis Hunter was a
- 55:11Speaker 3: good prospect, but he was not an easy development. He
- 55:13Speaker 3: was not a player that was going to be easy
- 55:14Speaker 3: to develop. He's a high-level player, but that didn't mean
- 55:17Speaker 3: he was plug-and-play.
- 55:19Speaker 1: And you're seeing that.
- 55:20Speaker 3: The Jaguars, last year he plays two ways. Now he's
- 55:22Speaker 3: playing corner, but still a little receiver.
- 55:23Speaker 1: You've got to keep him healthy.
- 55:25Speaker 3: And it's, yeah, they've got to figure it out, and
- 55:28Speaker 3: they haven't figured out the formula yet.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I have one other note on the Jaguars. Go for it.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Not really a key matchup, but if this becomes a
- 55:35Speaker 3: field position battle, Cam Little. Jaguars can field goal range
- 55:39Speaker 3: as soon as they get over midfield.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Literally. He had a 67-yarder last year. Yeah, he's got
- 55:43Speaker 1: a bomb. That's midfield. He could be a factor in
- 55:45Speaker 1: this game.
- 55:46Speaker 4: Yeah, so a really good Jaguars team. I think this
- 55:49Speaker 4: is kind of an underrated Jaguars team. It sort of
- 55:51Speaker 4: mirrors the Patriots in a lot of ways the last
- 55:53Speaker 4: two years. They weren't quite as successful last year, obviously, but...
- 55:57Speaker 4: I think the Patriots are 15 and four in their
- 56:00Speaker 4: last 19 regular season games. The Jaguars are like 14
- 56:04Speaker 4: and five, you know?
- 56:05Speaker 1: And so it's pretty close. Okay. Give me one more.
- 56:07Speaker 4: What, what are they, what are the comments saying?
- 56:10Speaker 1: Uh, I got a text from another media. Oh, Oh, that,
- 56:13Speaker 1: that was watching us.
- 56:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:15Speaker 1: Thank you for watching. Yeah. Um, it happens. She already
- 56:19Speaker 1: says Lazar crapping himself should be the topic for this segment. Hey,
- 56:23Speaker 1: It almost happened, but I didn't. I'm glad you got
- 56:26Speaker 1: out of here in time. We have to sign off.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Don't you have a whole other two-hour show to do now? Yes.
- 56:32Speaker 4: So we'll see how that goes. We got to get
- 56:34Speaker 4: out of here now, though. Patriots Unfiltered will be on
- 56:37Speaker 4: at 11. We'll be back on Catch 22 on Tuesday
- 56:41Speaker 4: to break down Patriots, Jaguars, and then next week. It's
- 56:44Speaker 4: our week, baby. It's Bill's week. So looking forward to that.
- 56:47Speaker 4: We'll see you guys then.
- 56:48Speaker 5: Bye.
