- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to Midnight Movie Theater. Tonight we're going to
- 0:04Speaker 1: be talking about the conspiracy of the Polybius Arcade Cabinet.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm here with Colton, as always.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:12Speaker 1: So the Polybius Conspiracy, it's an urban legend from Portland, Oregon.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It originated in Oregon, in the Portland area, I guess,
- 0:22Speaker 1: in 1981.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:24Speaker 1: The whole thing is that it's like a blank arcade
- 0:26Speaker 1: cabinet was said to start showing up in these arcade
- 0:30Speaker 1: bars or arcade halls or whatever they were called back then.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And it was completely blank. Kids started playing it and
- 0:35Speaker 1: it started freaking them the fuck out. They were having
- 0:37Speaker 1: seizures and stuff. It'd give them headaches. And the show
- 0:41Speaker 1: we're going to be talking about specifically is the Polybius Conspiracy.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It was done by Radiotopia. The showmakers or showrunners were
- 0:49Speaker 1: John Frechette and Todd Ludo. I hope I'm saying that
- 0:52Speaker 1: last name right.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I don't. I think they kept saying Luado. Sorry to
- 0:56Speaker 2: interrupt you.
- 0:57Speaker 1: No, go for it.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You were on fire, but they kept saying Luado. Luado.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that looks right.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Did you watch much Eastbound and Down? Yes. Do you
- 1:09Speaker 2: remember the season where Ashley Schaefer goes to Black Biker Week? Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And they shout out Bob Duato? No. He made the sculptures.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Every time they said that dude's name, I thought of
- 1:20Speaker 2: Bob Duato.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, probably related somehow. Before we get into any spoilers
- 1:27Speaker 1: or anything like that, basically this is like an audio
- 1:30Speaker 1: documentary episode. that follows around this guy named Bobby who
- 1:33Speaker 1: claims to have played Polybius in 1981 when he was
- 1:36Speaker 1: a little kid. And he quickly experiences some strange events.
- 1:40Speaker 1: And then he's kidnapped and brought to the National Forest
- 1:44Speaker 1: or the state park in that area, 60 miles from
- 1:47Speaker 1: his house. So it almost sounds like a men in
- 1:49Speaker 1: black type of situation that we got going on here.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Stranger things-y. It felt like, as far as him coming
- 1:58Speaker 2: back and no one believing him and stuff, it felt like,
- 2:01Speaker 2: very much the first season of stranger things. Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Like there's like some government something or other, some government
- 2:07Speaker 1: testing going on with this arcade cabinet or some shit
- 2:10Speaker 1: or some mind control type of situation we got going
- 2:13Speaker 1: on here. It's a little vague with all that. This,
- 2:16Speaker 1: they do include some like historians, like video game historians
- 2:20Speaker 1: that are interviewed throughout the show and people that grew
- 2:23Speaker 1: up in the area. And all that stuff was really interesting,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and they gave a lot of good insight about that
- 2:29Speaker 1: time period and stuff like that. But if you do
- 2:32Speaker 1: want to check this show out, there is going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: be a giant spoiler that we're going to give away. Probably,
- 2:39Speaker 1: I mean, I can't imagine not doing it beforehand.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I thought you were about to a second ago. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: I'm getting ready to.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But if anybody does think this sounds really interesting and
- 2:50Speaker 1: they want to... Check this thing out. It's seven episodes,
- 2:53Speaker 1: about 30 minutes a piece. I would say if you
- 2:55Speaker 1: go into it blind, like if you are wanting to
- 2:57Speaker 1: listen to this, it's probably best. So listen to that
- 3:00Speaker 1: and then come back and listen to our breakdown of it,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I guess.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, very nice.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's only like probably about nine hours of your
- 3:09Speaker 1: day or whatever. I think it was probably around under four.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it was under four. And it all listened pretty fast.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Like it went pretty quickly every time. And the way
- 3:19Speaker 2: that they set it up, the way they tell it,
- 3:21Speaker 2: it just, every time it starts, the story feels like
- 3:24Speaker 2: it's starting to lull a little bit. Something in the
- 3:27Speaker 2: plot will reel you back in and be like, next time,
- 3:30Speaker 2: on the next episode. It's like, fuck, all right, let
- 3:33Speaker 2: the next one play.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I know. Yeah, I blew right through this thing. The
- 3:37Speaker 1: production's great. Yeah, they always end on like a cliffhanger
- 3:40Speaker 1: and shit. It's just like, dude, it gets you sucked
- 3:42Speaker 1: in right away.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Definitely sucked me in.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Bobby will suck you in if the episodes don't, that's
- 3:48Speaker 1: for sure. Or maybe Mark. There's some interesting characters in
- 3:52Speaker 1: this that suck, for sure.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So we'll get to the big reveal. If you're on
- 4:02Speaker 1: board right now, this is where we're going to... Explain
- 4:05Speaker 1: what's really going on in this show. So going through
- 4:09Speaker 1: this thing, we were both convinced on our first time
- 4:12Speaker 1: listening through that this was a legit documentary. And it
- 4:17Speaker 1: wasn't until I finished it that I... There was one
- 4:21Speaker 1: spot in it that raised my eyebrows a bit. And
- 4:25Speaker 1: I was like, is this for real? So at the
- 4:27Speaker 1: very end, I checked it out. And this is actually
- 4:31Speaker 1: like an audio drama. This is all... made up and
- 4:34Speaker 1: written and produced.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah i had i had absolutely no idea looking back
- 4:38Speaker 2: i felt kind of there there were parts that definitely
- 4:41Speaker 2: stood out that i was like yeah but but i
- 4:45Speaker 2: mean it's it's it's very believable and it all feels
- 4:48Speaker 2: the writing is very done very well and just how
- 4:51Speaker 2: they like i said how they set up the flow
- 4:54Speaker 2: of the episodes is all it's very enjoyable and it's
- 4:57Speaker 2: a very good.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Listen Yeah, for sure.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It, it, the writing is great. Like that was one
- 5:02Speaker 1: thing I was almost like on a second listen going
- 5:04Speaker 1: back through, I was almost more impressed the second time
- 5:06Speaker 1: I was like, damn, they like really nailed this. Like
- 5:09Speaker 1: to make this sound authentic. Yeah. I was fucking, it
- 5:11Speaker 1: was good.
- 5:12Speaker 2: My thing on the second, on the second listen was
- 5:15Speaker 2: the first time I listened to it, I like initially
- 5:18Speaker 2: or wanted to start taking notes, but, but didn't, I
- 5:21Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to listen through it and then,
- 5:23Speaker 2: you know, see what I see, catch what I catch.
- 5:25Speaker 2: go back through and then I'll do notes and shit.
- 5:28Speaker 2: But yeah, going back through in hindsight and knowing after
- 5:32Speaker 2: the first listen that it wasn't, you know, a real documentary. Yeah. It, it,
- 5:37Speaker 2: it made me be like, Oh, well I'm not going
- 5:39Speaker 2: to write that down. You know what I mean? Like
- 5:41Speaker 2: there was a, the Tempest, the, the tournament they had
- 5:44Speaker 2: in the first episode, I think they played Tempest and
- 5:47Speaker 2: he was like, Bobby was fucking nice at Tempest and
- 5:50Speaker 2: had all, all they said he had all 10 of
- 5:52Speaker 2: the high scores on the whole game. It's like, all right,
- 5:55Speaker 2: Bobby's fucking, you know, nice at Tempest. And then they
- 5:57Speaker 2: had the tournament and he just got fucking cooked by
- 5:59Speaker 2: everybody and didn't even play. And it's like, was that
- 6:02Speaker 2: like just, you know, did he have an off day?
- 6:04Speaker 2: You know what was happening?
- 6:05Speaker 1: And it was like, yeah. That's what I was wondering.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I wonder if, like, a bunch of fucking ballers came
- 6:10Speaker 1: from out of town and they just, like, stomped his
- 6:12Speaker 1: ass into the ground. Because before that, yeah, it sounds
- 6:15Speaker 1: like he's going out of control. He's taking up every slot. Yeah,
- 6:19Speaker 1: I was like, what happened? Or, you know, maybe he
- 6:22Speaker 1: was tired from selling meth to everyone in town that day.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Spoiler, another damn. Another damn day. Another thing that kind
- 6:32Speaker 2: of crossed my mind, too, on the second listen, when
- 6:34Speaker 2: I was thinking through the part about the high score
- 6:37Speaker 2: and him getting cooked at the tournament was maybe he was,
- 6:39Speaker 2: you know, had a guy on the inside, doctor. And
- 6:43Speaker 2: he was helping the fucking flood. He was hitting it.
- 6:47Speaker 2: He's like, you know what? My boy, Bobby, all 10, baby.
- 6:50Speaker 2: You see this? Bobby's got all 10 on here.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Any of you bitches want to fuck Bobby or what?
- 6:58Speaker 1: Look at his name. He can't beat his damn high score.
- 7:00Speaker 2: They called him Bobby Ten Spot in that bitch.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Bobby Big Dick in there. Blasting away on Tempest, dude. Dude,
- 7:11Speaker 1: when he's talking... So this is basically all episode one.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And when he's talking about how he's like... When he
- 7:17Speaker 1: first got to Polybius, dude, and starts playing it, he
- 7:20Speaker 1: is so full of himself. He's just like, yeah, I was.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I was playing this game about the same way that
- 7:27Speaker 1: most people play regular games, and it's like the hardest
- 7:29Speaker 1: game in the world. And then I finally.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Much more difficult. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I was fucking blasting through it, and then he's like,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and then the final level is just, you're getting blasted
- 7:40Speaker 1: by everyone all around you. And when he was talking
- 7:42Speaker 1: about that, I was like, I think he might be...
- 7:44Speaker 1: Getting this mixed up to what happened to him when
- 7:47Speaker 1: he got kidnapped. Like, being in a dark room, surrounded,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and just getting blasted on.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I was like, I'm getting fucking really taken aback too, baby.
- 7:58Speaker 1: It was... It was interesting, because.
- 8:02Speaker 2: And with the three fingers.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So but oh but they talk about a lot in
- 8:10Speaker 1: episode one I was kind of surprised like on the
- 8:13Speaker 1: on the re-listen when I was taking notes I was
- 8:15Speaker 1: like dude they cover like everything in episode one yeah
- 8:17Speaker 1: it's like fucking what now yeah what else what the
- 8:21Speaker 1: fuck are you doing for six more episodes we know
- 8:23Speaker 1: the whole thing now alright cool the kid got abducted
- 8:26Speaker 1: did some fucking things he didn't want to talk about
- 8:29Speaker 1: but he talked about and then nobody believed him and
- 8:32Speaker 1: everybody thinks he's a fucking freak and a liar The end.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I know. I was like, dude, it's so rude. I
- 8:38Speaker 2: couldn't have been more wrong.
- 8:40Speaker 1: No, there's so much more left to get into with Bobby.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So much more of a fool of himself to make.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Was that word? I think it sounded all right.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I think it worked. It's kind of wild because his story,
- 8:56Speaker 1: so basically he plays plebs so hard that he gets kidnapped.
- 9:01Speaker 1: He goes to Coin King and plays there and then
- 9:03Speaker 1: he goes home. He gets a headache. He drinks like
- 9:05Speaker 1: a glass of milk or something. And then some dudes
- 9:08Speaker 1: just bust into his house and kidnap his ass. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: then he wakes up 60 miles from his house in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the woods. And so this is the part that I
- 9:16Speaker 1: was like, okay, this kid got raped for sure. Because
- 9:20Speaker 1: he's instantly just like, I woke up and there was
- 9:22Speaker 1: some guys holding me down and something was in my mouth.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he was fucking some fingers going down his
- 9:27Speaker 2: throat or something.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, I don't know if that was
- 9:29Speaker 1: a finger, bud. I think that was the... You know?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Oh no dude good news bad news i have a
- 9:36Speaker 2: live news update on what is it from the fucking
- 9:39Speaker 2: theory of a dead man concert what i've said the
- 9:42Speaker 2: singer is so bad like so bad it's kind of
- 9:45Speaker 2: sad bars brie i didn't know you fucking could spit
- 9:48Speaker 2: like that dog.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Dude okay good thing we got our own homes.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And not in fucking decatur getting rained on talking about.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Oblivious yeah that's true so for 14 year old bob
- 10:00Speaker 1: he escapes from this sex dungeon and this kid, this kid,
- 10:05Speaker 1: random strange kid that's also tied up there. He helps
- 10:10Speaker 1: him escape, but then he's like, the kid that helps
- 10:13Speaker 1: him escape is too beat up to go on. So
- 10:16Speaker 1: he's just like, you know, go on without me, Bobby.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Save yourself. I think you're walking.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Through where you're at. You're fucking woods out here.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. That's the trail they were looking for. Yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we'll get into it soon enough, but this is Bobby.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Flash forward 27 years later, Bobby does walking tours in Portland,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Oregon to show where he got kidnapped from or whatever.
- 10:37Speaker 1: And this is it.
- 10:38Speaker 2: That's it.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I got it live. This is Bob.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Suicide Woods. No, no.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Definitely not.
- 10:44Speaker 2: This is PNW.
- 10:46Speaker 1: This is Bobby's, like, POV cam. He's got, like, a
- 10:49Speaker 1: GoPro on his head. God, it sucked.
- 10:53Speaker 2: For real.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's the thing. It was the worst. He's just the
- 10:56Speaker 1: shittiest dude. And they, like, spend so much time with him.
- 10:59Speaker 2: I know. And have you ever seen the show, like,
- 11:02Speaker 2: What We Do in the Shadows? About, like, vampires? Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Like one or two episodes. I haven't watched the whole thing.
- 11:08Speaker 2: There's a dude on there that plays an energy vampire.
- 11:11Speaker 2: He doesn't suck blood, but he takes your energy by
- 11:15Speaker 2: telling boring stories and shit like that. The dude that
- 11:18Speaker 2: plays that character is who I thought of every time
- 11:21Speaker 2: Bobby started talking. He's in the later seasons of The Office.
- 11:25Speaker 2: He works in the warehouse.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Okay. Is he like the dark-haired guy? Like kind of tall, skinny,
- 11:31Speaker 1: dark-haired guy?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I'm just guessing.
- 11:34Speaker 2: He wears t-shirts sometimes.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I don't know. You'll have to send me a pic.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm not sure this guy is. Yeah, no, that does
- 11:43Speaker 1: pretty much sum up Bobby's entire personality. It sounds like
- 11:46Speaker 1: a drag to be around him at all times. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: know this is fake now, but I still just couldn't
- 11:52Speaker 1: imagine having to hang around this guy and film a
- 11:55Speaker 1: documentary around him. They, they do a good job of
- 11:59Speaker 1: selling it. Like even knowing that it's fake, I feel
- 12:01Speaker 1: like it was moments where you can tell like the
- 12:03Speaker 1: showrunner sound exhausted being around. Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They did very well with the characters. That's what I
- 12:09Speaker 2: was going to say. Like later on in the, what
- 12:12Speaker 2: was it when they, they went and met with somebody
- 12:14Speaker 2: and they like, they told Bobby off and he's like,
- 12:17Speaker 2: you see what I got to deal with every day.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And they like just fucking completely ignore him. He goes,
- 12:22Speaker 2: I said, you see what I fucking got to deal
- 12:24Speaker 2: with all the time. Yeah. We heard you, Bobby. Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 2: It's like, that felt so real and so believable. Like,
- 12:30Speaker 2: I wonder if this dude genuinely fucking sucked to be around.
- 12:33Speaker 2: That sold me. That all felt very, very real.
- 12:38Speaker 1: That sold me so much, because the part right before
- 12:41Speaker 1: that is the part that almost tipped me off, because
- 12:43Speaker 1: it was a little too perfect. It's like they go
- 12:46Speaker 1: and they meet up with that reporter, and she is...
- 12:49Speaker 1: she's like plays that Halloween tape for them. Cause she
- 12:52Speaker 1: was like a reporter in the eighties. So yeah, they go.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Meet at the Tempest tournament is what she told me.
- 12:57Speaker 2: That was what she was covering at the beginning. So that's,
- 13:01Speaker 2: I guess that's episode two. We can slide into that part,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I guess.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, we might as well go into episode two.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think that was episode two.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get into two because I think that's pretty
- 13:13Speaker 1: much it. The only other thing from one is that
- 13:16Speaker 1: they tell Bobby the owner of Coin Kingdom killed himself
- 13:20Speaker 1: because Bobby spread rumors about him being a child molester.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Are you asking me if.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I think this blood is on my hands? That was
- 13:29Speaker 2: another one that felt very real. What's your guys' angle here?
- 13:35Speaker 2: I thought you guys were helping me try to get
- 13:37Speaker 2: the truth out there, but it feels like you're fucking...
- 13:40Speaker 2: He cussed with conviction? I don't know if I'm reaching
- 13:45Speaker 2: with that, but it was like, what's your guys' fucking
- 13:49Speaker 2: angle here? What are you guys doing? Quality voice actors,
- 13:52Speaker 2: I will say that. Absolutely.
- 13:54Speaker 1: 100%.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I hope those dudes got more work after that. Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 1: No, it was so convincing because that was one thing
- 14:00Speaker 1: where it's like, dude, this sounds like a real shitty
- 14:03Speaker 1: guy that would act like this. Even though these like
- 14:06Speaker 1: filmmakers are coming or, you know, whatever production crew is
- 14:09Speaker 1: coming to him and they're like, we want to tell
- 14:11Speaker 1: your story. He's still like, if you don't fucking tell
- 14:13Speaker 1: it my way, I'm going to be fucking pissed and
- 14:16Speaker 1: I'm not going to cooperate. And they're just like, okay,
- 14:19Speaker 1: God damn it. We're just like, you know, saying what's
- 14:21Speaker 1: where I get the whole story. Like, yeah, we're just
- 14:23Speaker 1: calling it like we see it.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it sounds like you accidentally fucking basically made this
- 14:29Speaker 1: guy kill himself by spreading rumors about him, and we're
- 14:32Speaker 1: just calling it out.
- 14:32Speaker 2: And then he turned into a fucking drunk and wrapped
- 14:34Speaker 2: his car around a tree, and yeah, that's exactly what
- 14:37Speaker 2: we're asking, Bobby. Do you think your blood is on
- 14:39Speaker 2: your hands a little bit? because you said that this
- 14:43Speaker 2: shit popped off at his fucking arcade and people came
- 14:47Speaker 2: in and found out some shit was going down with
- 14:49Speaker 2: the kids. That was part of that too, is they
- 14:51Speaker 2: found out shit was going on with kids there. And then,
- 14:54Speaker 2: but then the window was very small when they, they
- 14:57Speaker 2: went from, from that to him, him getting in a
- 14:59Speaker 2: wreck and dying.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah. It was like, Yeah, because I feel
- 15:04Speaker 1: like it's way jumping ahead, but there's something to do with, like,
- 15:07Speaker 1: child prostitution later on. Or, like, the cops are investigating
- 15:11Speaker 1: this place for that. But I think that's, like, that's
- 15:14Speaker 1: far on. So episode two, yeah, I think is when
- 15:17Speaker 1: we get introduced to Ruben and Mark, the gay couple.
- 15:22Speaker 1: The gay guys.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yep.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yep.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Couple of them.
- 15:30Speaker 1: There's a couple of them in this story, that's for sure.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Ruben and.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I couldn't be able to talk about these guys.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Okay. Sorry. I was going to try to just blast.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Right through that. Yeah, you know.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So, okay, yeah. I was trying to remember how these
- 15:52Speaker 1: guys even made their way into the story.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Just like you and I. Nothing. Nothing.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Nothing to see here.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Move along. No defining characteristics that I would point out whatsoever. No.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Just a couple of guys that got mixed up with Bobby.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Just a couple of normal guys. Just a couple of
- 16:12Speaker 1: dudes hanging out.
- 16:13Speaker 2: A couple of guys being dudes. Joshing around.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You know, staying the night at each other's house every
- 16:23Speaker 1: once in a while.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 16:25Speaker 1: I'm guessing. Maybe. Maybe.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Maybe they are.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Maybe making love.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Maybe they are. Maybe they are.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Yeah, shit. Hey, wait.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I got a.
- 16:35Speaker 1: You know what? Hold on one second. I got the
- 16:38Speaker 1: perfect sound for this moment. Did you catch that? Here, wait.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I got another one.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I am gay. Oh, fuck.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yeah, there we go.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Shit. Oh, it's getting steamy out in the fucking Pacific
- 16:53Speaker 2: Northwest when this shit came on. You see me have
- 16:56Speaker 2: to wipe the camera down? Oh, yeah, dude. Going into
- 16:58Speaker 2: Bobby's close-up.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That's right. There he is. He's going to pop out
- 17:02Speaker 1: behind that tree here in a second.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Bro, you see I brought out Stone Cold and Kane? Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 2: he had some light.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Fucking fine-ass figures. Those are fucking... Oh, whoops.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Oh, wait.
- 17:13Speaker 1: There we go.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Oh, fuck! Yeah!
- 17:16Speaker 1: Trying to find it. I knew I had it on
- 17:18Speaker 1: there somewhere. So Ruben gets introduced to the story because
- 17:22Speaker 1: he's looking for his gay lover, Mark. And he goes
- 17:26Speaker 1: to Oregon. Because Mark ran away. And he's like, damn,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I think Mark went to Portland, Oregon. Because where else
- 17:34Speaker 1: would he go as a gay man? And so he
- 17:38Speaker 1: finds his way to Bobby's walking tour because... I honestly
- 17:43Speaker 1: kind of forget why this makes sense, but it's something
- 17:45Speaker 1: about Mark grew up there. Oh, he had a newspaper.
- 17:49Speaker 2: He had that picture. Oh, yeah, that was right. The
- 17:51Speaker 2: newspaper from the Tempest tournament. Yes.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, it all comes back to Tempest. If it
- 17:57Speaker 1: wasn't for that Tempest tournament, then none of this would
- 17:59Speaker 1: have happened. So Ruben goes and finds him, and he's like,
- 18:04Speaker 1: do you know this motherfucker? And he shows him the
- 18:07Speaker 1: picture on the newspaper, and he said that Bobby's just
- 18:10Speaker 1: went completely white. And he just instantly recognized him as
- 18:13Speaker 1: the boy that helped him escape from the government torture
- 18:17Speaker 1: sex dungeon.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Facility, yeah.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah. The clinic.
- 18:22Speaker 2: The government doctor's office facility.
- 18:25Speaker 1: The three-finger bang train.
- 18:28Speaker 2: The dog.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Big fucking three fingers. Yeah, I guess we talked about it,
- 18:33Speaker 1: but I think it was off air. There's a three-finger
- 18:36Speaker 1: guy that's been kidnapping and, I guess, molesting these kids,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and his three fingers are like this. I kept thinking
- 18:43Speaker 1: they were like this.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be these.
- 18:46Speaker 1: These? See, that makes the most sense to me. It's
- 18:49Speaker 1: like the Ninja Turtle hand.
- 18:51Speaker 2: What would be the least convenient?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Probably like this. If you're doing one of these. I
- 18:57Speaker 1: would just play fucking power chords. You're trying to choke
- 19:00Speaker 1: a kid out like that?
- 19:01Speaker 2: How would Dave Draymond put his piercings in?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Even if it's like this.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Like, how's fucking... Fuck, maybe even this. This would probably
- 19:09Speaker 1: be worse. Because, like, I can't... Oh, dude, that would...
- 19:14Speaker 1: When I'm doing this, I can't move my ring finger
- 19:16Speaker 1: up any more than that.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if you're not focused on using your
- 19:20Speaker 2: muscles to hold those down, then you'd probably get nice
- 19:22Speaker 2: with these two. Yeah. Yeah. Dude.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Do you imagine?
- 19:27Speaker 2: You end up with fucking paintball fingers with your pinky. Dude.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. No wonder that's this guy's job for
- 19:36Speaker 1: the government. They're like, well, you blew off your fingers
- 19:39Speaker 1: or whatever. We're going to need you to be in
- 19:40Speaker 1: the child kidnap zone.
- 19:42Speaker 2: You're reassigned to fucking kids, bucko.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You're going to Portland, Oregon to kidnap. Son of a bitch.
- 19:50Speaker 1: we're gonna need you to send out some some spooky
- 19:53Speaker 1: cassette tapes to some radio stations or whatever yeah because
- 19:56Speaker 1: in the the second episode so they they meet up
- 19:59Speaker 1: with this reporter who who's just like oh yeah i
- 20:03Speaker 1: got i i took i took a coverage of the
- 20:06Speaker 1: tempest tournament i i And the way they, like, frame
- 20:08Speaker 1: this lady is hilarious, because she's like, I was the
- 20:12Speaker 1: only woman on the staff, so everybody fucking hated me.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I wanted to do this arcade story real bad,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and they were just like, no, you can't. But I
- 20:20Speaker 1: went and did it anyway.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Well, she wanted to do it about what was going
- 20:24Speaker 2: on with the kids. And I'm like, no, don't cover
- 20:26Speaker 2: the fucking tournament down there.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Tempest.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That whole, the whole interaction.
- 20:32Speaker 1: She's like, I want to get into the scoop.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah she so she's like telling her story from that
- 20:37Speaker 2: perspective that day and then like as soon as bobby
- 20:41Speaker 2: like chimes in it immediately feels like like at the
- 20:44Speaker 2: end of joe dirt when he meets his parents and
- 20:47Speaker 2: he's like how long did you look like how was
- 20:52Speaker 2: you know what i mean because he's like he's bob
- 20:55Speaker 2: bobby's like he's fucking pissed off he was so mad
- 20:59Speaker 2: dude he's like bobby's like i looked up a picture
- 21:01Speaker 2: of you when you were younger and i don't fucking
- 21:02Speaker 2: recognize you I didn't see you there. You weren't there
- 21:06Speaker 2: that day. Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He's so mad instantly.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Just what are you talking about? All day thing. You know,
- 21:12Speaker 2: they had a lot of people working for the, for
- 21:14Speaker 2: the newspaper. Like maybe they just sent me later in
- 21:17Speaker 2: the day. He's like, I was there on fucking day.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I didn't see you once. I don't recognize you. You're
- 21:23Speaker 2: fucking lying. And she's like, you guys invited me here. Like,
- 21:27Speaker 2: what are we doing? Yeah.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Are you here to grill me about what I remember
- 21:31Speaker 1: from fucking 1981? This is 2017, and they're just like,
- 21:36Speaker 1: he's so mad about it.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And why does he think he would.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Why would he recognize this random lady in this arcade
- 21:43Speaker 1: tournament who's just there to take pictures? Yeah.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I'm sure he doesn't have any memories that he needed
- 21:49Speaker 2: to block out.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Exactly. And not to mention Tempest, or not Tempest, but Polybius,
- 21:54Speaker 1: apparently brainwashed his ass, too. It gave him all this, like,
- 21:57Speaker 1: he's having all these crazy visions. Why would he even
- 22:00Speaker 1: trust him?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Right, yeah. If you were ass on Tempest that day,
- 22:02Speaker 2: maybe you were just having an off day, dog. Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Don't blame her. But after, when she comes back, here's
- 22:09Speaker 2: where hindsight came into play. Yeah. It's like, this was
- 22:13Speaker 2: kind of a weird little jump. She calls the next day, like,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I meant to tell you guys, there's a whole fucking
- 22:19Speaker 2: tape that somebody sent me that has everything to do
- 22:22Speaker 2: with what you're talking about. Yeah. And I didn't think
- 22:25Speaker 2: to bring it up until after you left.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. See, that's what got me, like, thinking, like,
- 22:31Speaker 1: is this real? Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 2: But maybe he just gave bad vibes and... She just
- 22:38Speaker 2: wanted him out of the fucking house. She did say that.
- 22:41Speaker 2: We got that out of the way.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah, she did say that. And I was kind of
- 22:44Speaker 1: convinced because I was like, dude, if these assholes came
- 22:47Speaker 1: over to my house and this guy who probably looks
- 22:49Speaker 1: like a total dickweed just starts going off on me
- 22:53Speaker 1: about this, I'd probably be like, you know what? I
- 22:55Speaker 1: think I got some other shit to do, actually. You
- 22:58Speaker 1: guys need to get the fuck out of here.
- 22:59Speaker 2: The producers, very kind. Lovely. Yeah. Thanks for coming.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Very nice people.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I'd have you guys back. the fucking weirdo in the
- 23:06Speaker 2: trench coat that was fucking given the walking tours earlier.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I don't want him in here.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But dude, but I love that she does call him
- 23:13Speaker 1: out though. Cause he starts grilling her about that. But
- 23:15Speaker 1: then she goes, well, if you want to know the truth,
- 23:17Speaker 1: when I talked to your parents, they told me you were,
- 23:19Speaker 1: you were a compulsive liar. And he's just like, fuck
- 23:23Speaker 1: my parents.
- 23:24Speaker 2: They don't know.
- 23:25Speaker 1: He's like, he's like, that's all it takes one person
- 23:28Speaker 1: to discredit your whole story. And it's like, yeah, but
- 23:30Speaker 1: it's your mom and dad, dude. It's not just some
- 23:32Speaker 1: random person.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Like, they grew up with you. You see the shit
- 23:37Speaker 2: I deal with every single day. Yeah.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And it's just crickets. You can tell it was just
- 23:43Speaker 1: one of those moments where they're just looking at their
- 23:45Speaker 1: fucking feet like, God damn it.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I know we keep going back to that, like, scene,
- 23:50Speaker 2: but that was, like, the way it sounds is like
- 23:53Speaker 2: the camera, like, someone's holding a camera and it's, like,
- 23:56Speaker 2: down at their side when all that. You know what
- 23:57Speaker 2: I mean? Yeah. Like, the mic is set off from
- 24:01Speaker 2: where they're speaking. And it just, little shit like that
- 24:06Speaker 2: did a lot for me in this. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 1: No, that's what kept me going, where I was like, no,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I think this might be legit.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 1: The tape they listened to, though, was a little funky.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I can't remember if that's episode two or episode three.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so that is three when she comes. There was
- 24:24Speaker 2: something there that I had written down, yeah, actually.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Okay. There was something else in episode two before we
- 24:31Speaker 1: get to number three. So Bobby's like going on about
- 24:34Speaker 1: these underground tunnels in Portland, which I guess is like
- 24:36Speaker 1: a real, like kind of like conspiracy theory thing. But
- 24:41Speaker 1: they talked to this other walking tour guy.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 1: The Shanghai tunnels. Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 1: With Jackie Chan's fucking Owen Wilson. Yeah, dude.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Shout out to the doctor.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Big Doc up there.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Do you like the Jerry Garcia merch?
- 25:00Speaker 2: Whichever one he's missing. Oh, yeah. But it's the fucking doctor.
- 25:03Speaker 2: It's Doc Ock. Hell, yeah, dude.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Might need to make some merch with that.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Just... Fuck, yeah, dude.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Just says Polybius over it and just fucking... Dude, it
- 25:12Speaker 1: sounds like a metal band name anyway.
- 25:14Speaker 2: For sure.
- 25:15Speaker 1: But they talk to this guy, Doug, who does a
- 25:17Speaker 1: different walking tour, and he completely debunks the fuck out
- 25:20Speaker 1: of Bobby's underground tunnel theory, like, instantly. Yeah. He's just like, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: people think that there's, like, these underground tunnels that they were, like,
- 25:28Speaker 1: trafficking stuff in, but it's not true. And they're just like, oh.
- 25:31Speaker 2: They were made, like, after the time that they said
- 25:34Speaker 2: that they were being used or something like that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, he's, like, got all the records about it
- 25:39Speaker 1: and shit, like, the construction records, and he's just like,
- 25:41Speaker 1: this is what's actually going on here. And they're just
- 25:43Speaker 1: kind of like, oh, so Bobby's lying more. You know,
- 25:46Speaker 1: it's just like.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Dude, imagine if Bobby was there for that one. Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 1: he'd be like, fuck this guy. You cannot talk to
- 25:54Speaker 1: this guy.
- 25:54Speaker 2: He's who I fucking deal with every fucking day.
- 25:57Speaker 1: He's part of the government cover-up for the oblivious child
- 26:04Speaker 1: trafficking ring that they got going on. Dude, it's a wild, wild,
- 26:09Speaker 1: wild story. We also find out in 2 that the
- 26:13Speaker 1: reason why Mark left is because Ruben... was banging some
- 26:16Speaker 1: other dudes. And so when he finds that out, he
- 26:19Speaker 1: takes off. Yeah. I didn't like that. I was like, Ruben, you're,
- 26:24Speaker 1: you know, you're a piece of shit in my book, Ruben.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 1: You shouldn't be banging. No, he kind of sucked. He
- 26:30Speaker 1: wasn't as bad as Bobby, but he did like kind of,
- 26:34Speaker 1: he did like team up with them.
- 26:35Speaker 2: And then they were even worse. Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I hated that.
- 26:41Speaker 2: He really showed his colors at the end as well.
- 26:44Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, he kind of flipped out. But yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 1: then in episode three, we meet this guy, Stephen Roach,
- 26:52Speaker 1: or at least we learn about this guy, Stephen Roach,
- 26:54Speaker 1: who wrote this whole long thing on some Reddit thread
- 27:00Speaker 1: or something about Polybius, about how he was involved with
- 27:03Speaker 1: working on the cabinets and working on the program and stuff.
- 27:06Speaker 1: But the only problem is that this Mr. Roach guy
- 27:09Speaker 1: can't spell to save his fucking life. Like he was like,
- 27:12Speaker 1: they said.
- 27:12Speaker 2: He spelled his name wrong twice and the name of
- 27:14Speaker 2: the company wrong twice, but he spelled the university. Right.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I was just like, okay, so this guy's like
- 27:21Speaker 1: practically tarted and he's just like, no, I'm in on it.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And they're just.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Like, nah, don't worry guys. I know what's going on.
- 27:28Speaker 1: It's like, yeah. And Bobby even thinks that this guy's
- 27:31Speaker 1: full of shit. He's like, no, I don't think Roach
- 27:34Speaker 1: was a, was a fucking scientist that worked on the
- 27:37Speaker 1: plebe cabinet.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Couldn't have been him.
- 27:40Speaker 1: But we also find out that Steven Roach and his
- 27:43Speaker 1: wife were running like troubled teen centers at that time
- 27:47Speaker 1: out of Portland, Oregon or somewhere in Oregon. And they
- 27:49Speaker 1: end up going to jail for trafficking. So it does
- 27:52Speaker 1: kind of add to the story where it's like, oh shit,
- 27:54Speaker 1: are these guys involved in all this?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. They said that they were doing like the, they,
- 27:59Speaker 2: they were hiring them to go pick up runaways and shit.
- 28:03Speaker 2: And like, they were like restricting the times they could
- 28:05Speaker 2: go to the bathroom and stuff and playing loud music. Yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Have you heard about any of those things? Those are like,
- 28:13Speaker 1: those are real though. Those did happen like in the
- 28:15Speaker 1: eighties and nineties.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So I, I think like, so Paris Hilton went to
- 28:20Speaker 1: one when she was like a teenage, her parents sent
- 28:22Speaker 1: her to one when she was a teenager. And I've,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I've heard some other people talk about it. Basically, it
- 28:27Speaker 1: was like these people would take in a ton of money,
- 28:31Speaker 1: like $ 1, 000 a month per kid or something like that,
- 28:34Speaker 1: maybe more. And they would get these troubled teens that
- 28:36Speaker 1: were doing bad in school and running away from home
- 28:38Speaker 1: and getting in fights, just basically committing crimes left and right.
- 28:42Speaker 1: And they would send them off to these reform schools.
- 28:45Speaker 1: And these reform schools would be, like, out in the
- 28:47Speaker 1: middle of nowhere, and you would have, like, no contact
- 28:49Speaker 1: with your parents other than, like, I think you could
- 28:52Speaker 1: write letters, but they would usually read the letters before
- 28:54Speaker 1: they sent them out. And they would have, like, the
- 28:56Speaker 1: older kids basically just watching the younger kids, and they
- 29:00Speaker 1: would just beat the shit out of them constantly. Like, basically,
- 29:03Speaker 1: they would.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And they would basically just take turns beating the fuck
- 29:12Speaker 1: out of you until you, like, learned your lesson. No,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and it sounded kind of similar to, like, Scientology, where, like,
- 29:20Speaker 1: they would make you admit to things that you were
- 29:22Speaker 1: doing wrong, even if you weren't really, like, doing anything wrong.
- 29:26Speaker 1: They would just kind of, like, break you down mentally
- 29:28Speaker 1: and stuff. So I believe this part, too, because I
- 29:30Speaker 1: was like, dude, I've watched some documentaries about these troubled
- 29:34Speaker 1: teen centers. You know, it just kind of added to
- 29:36Speaker 1: the story for me. I was like, damn, this might
- 29:38Speaker 1: be legit. Yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:42Speaker 2: And then that's yeah, I was going to say. And
- 29:44Speaker 2: that's when she she's like, oh, yeah, by the way,
- 29:47Speaker 2: not probably not relevant to you guys. But I did
- 29:50Speaker 2: happen to remember this kind of weird, weird tape. I
- 29:54Speaker 2: like what the fuck?
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah, looking back on that now, that is really hard
- 29:59Speaker 1: to let that one slide.
- 30:01Speaker 2: It's like, I do.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Have a cassette tape where this guy that does a
- 30:07Speaker 1: fake Russian accent explains everything that's going on in the
- 30:10Speaker 1: story you're talking about. That's just kind of a weird coincidence,
- 30:13Speaker 1: I guess.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Probably not worth anything to you guys.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Not a big deal. And also not to mention around
- 30:19Speaker 1: that time when I got the cassette, people were like
- 30:21Speaker 1: breaking into my house and doing weird shit to my house. Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Doing her dishes and shit. Yeah. She like wrote it
- 30:29Speaker 2: off as she was working too much.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah. She's like, damn, I must just be too.
- 30:33Speaker 2: She came home and accidentally did my dishes. Right. Fucking
- 30:37Speaker 2: for real.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I must just be working so hard that I don't
- 30:40Speaker 1: even remember all the good shit that I've been up to.
- 30:43Speaker 2: I'm working so hard that I don't want to tell
- 30:45Speaker 2: my boss how hard I'm working because then he'll think
- 30:47Speaker 2: I'm fucking crazy. What do we got?
- 30:51Speaker 1: Fucking Joker Cola, dude.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Period. You already know what I got.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I got big deck coats.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Pounder, baby.
- 30:59Speaker 1: DCL, yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 2: The drink.
- 31:06Speaker 1: A drink of.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I fucking love having a beverage on deck, dude. I know, man.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It's the best.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Really? You gotta have it. You have to hydrate.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Gotta get the sodium in one hand. I was gonna say,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you got water in the... You need to get a refill.
- 31:23Speaker 2: The remix to intermission soon.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Dude, do what you gotta do. So I can brew
- 31:27Speaker 1: it at the kitchen. If you gotta hydrate it, you
- 31:31Speaker 1: gotta get the H2O going. H2O flow.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Period. So.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So, yeah, so she has this story about, well, they
- 31:39Speaker 1: listen to the tape, and you get to listen to it, too.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And the thing that got me about the tape was,
- 31:43Speaker 1: this is supposedly a cassette tape that she got from
- 31:45Speaker 1: the 80s, and it sounds, like, pristine. Like, the audio
- 31:49Speaker 1: quality on it is perfect. And I was kind of like, dude,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I made a copy of it, and I was kind
- 31:55Speaker 1: of like, still. That thing would sound, like, warped, at least.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's... There was, like, static on it, but
- 32:02Speaker 2: I didn't, yeah, I guess I didn't really consider it being, like,
- 32:05Speaker 2: that old and still being able to just pop in
- 32:08Speaker 2: and play it. Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 1: To me, it just sounded a little too, like, digital.
- 32:13Speaker 1: But I was thinking, like, well, these guys, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 1: they're professionals. Maybe they went in and touched up the audio, like, afterwards.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But still, I was kind of like, you know, if
- 32:21Speaker 1: you listen to stuff from the 80s that was recorded
- 32:23Speaker 1: in the 80s, like, just on cassette, it just has, like,
- 32:26Speaker 1: a roughness to it, almost like a blurriness to the voice,
- 32:30Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like a distortion to it.
- 32:33Speaker 2: But.
- 32:34Speaker 1: But, you know, I was able to get past that
- 32:36Speaker 1: easily because the rest of the story was kicking so
- 32:39Speaker 1: much ass. And then basically she talks about how after
- 32:43Speaker 1: all this strange stuff started happening one night at work,
- 32:46Speaker 1: she's working real late and an unmarked van chases her
- 32:49Speaker 1: down the road while she's on her bike. And this
- 32:51Speaker 1: is getting into episode four, but I think that's... Well, yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I have one more thing from episode three. Okay, yeah.
- 32:59Speaker 2: After the tape, they said something about... The voice continued
- 33:03Speaker 2: getting calls, and then, like, windows were getting left open
- 33:07Speaker 2: and shit, and then they went over to the window
- 33:11Speaker 2: one night and looked out, and there was somebody standing
- 33:13Speaker 2: down on the street, and it was a three-fingered man. Yes!
- 33:17Speaker 2: My brain immediately painted a picture of the three-fingered man
- 33:20Speaker 2: just down very dramatically under a street lamp, like, sitting
- 33:25Speaker 2: in hand. And... That was when I started wondering which fingers.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Was he doing one of these?
- 33:38Speaker 2: That was when I wondered if it was these two.
- 33:45Speaker 2: But the thing said, awoken by a breeze. If you
- 33:50Speaker 2: start a story with I was awoken by a breeze,
- 33:53Speaker 2: I immediately think you're fucking lying to me.
- 33:56Speaker 1: That's true. That's a fake story.
- 33:58Speaker 2: You weren't fucking awoken, but you didn't. I have never
- 34:01Speaker 2: been awoken. No. You know what I'm saying? No. It
- 34:04Speaker 2: immediately feels like you're getting too wordy and you're lying. Yeah.
- 34:07Speaker 1: You're getting a little too.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Awoken by a breeze.
- 34:11Speaker 1: A little too poetic with this story. Yeah. It's like,
- 34:16Speaker 1: were you awoken by it or did you just fucking
- 34:19Speaker 1: wake up like a normal person? Yeah, this lady's full
- 34:23Speaker 1: of shit. The other thing that I thought with this lady, though,
- 34:26Speaker 1: when I was like, man, she sounds kind of like
- 34:28Speaker 1: maybe a little bit full of shit or this is
- 34:30Speaker 1: all too a little convenient, I was starting to wonder, like,
- 34:33Speaker 1: maybe she's using this as an angle to get in
- 34:35Speaker 1: on this story and make some damn money because she's
- 34:37Speaker 1: kind of like a failed reporter. They didn't go that...
- 34:41Speaker 1: I didn't even think of that. They didn't go in
- 34:43Speaker 1: that direction, but I was starting to think, like, maybe
- 34:46Speaker 1: she's kind of like seized this as her opportunity to
- 34:48Speaker 1: be like, I've got some... Hey! Yeah, I've got a
- 34:52Speaker 1: tape from a Russian guy that.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I never even considered that.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I never even thought about showing this to the police.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Especially after I got stalked and my bike got stolen.
- 35:01Speaker 2: By an un.
- 35:02Speaker 1: You know, never even thought about that shit.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Convenient.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Now that you mention it, maybe all those things were
- 35:09Speaker 1: connected that happened at the exact same time. Maybe the
- 35:15Speaker 1: guy driving the van did have three fingers now that
- 35:17Speaker 1: I think about it.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Maybe he was Sig smoking three-fing style.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I wonder, too, did he have three fingers on both hands?
- 35:27Speaker 1: Because they never really specify that. Or maybe they did,
- 35:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I know they did. Well, the picture on the album
- 35:35Speaker 2: art of this episode was him holding the tape recorder
- 35:39Speaker 2: with the fucking hand, yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He's hitting record and play.
- 35:43Speaker 2: His middle fingers look like a couple fucking crunched off
- 35:45Speaker 2: Doritos with crumbs hanging off. I appreciate the detail in
- 35:48Speaker 2: the drawing. You know what I'm saying?
- 35:49Speaker 1: I did like the... Yeah, the artwork was pretty cool
- 35:52Speaker 1: for these episodes. I liked it. So, she shows him
- 35:55Speaker 1: that tape.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You got it? Dude, hold on a sec. It's all.
- 36:00Speaker 2: All blurred. Dang.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Never mind.
- 36:03Speaker 2: All right.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Maybe I'll... Maybe when editing... Sneak it.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah, just like.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe I'll edit it, and I'll throw a little
- 36:12Speaker 1: picture up in the video.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Put a picture in it.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll save it. Save the pic. I'll get a
- 36:17Speaker 1: pic of Bobby, too, while we're at it.
- 36:19Speaker 2: God.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Throw him in the background.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Just the fucking worst. That dude sucked so bad. I just...
- 36:25Speaker 2: And then the audacity to act like he wasn't the
- 36:28Speaker 2: problem at the end.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Dude, I know. When we get to the end, it's like,
- 36:32Speaker 1: there's so many shits. Like, this sums up to just.
- 36:35Speaker 2: I mean, even, like, yeah... Every bit, like, from now
- 36:38Speaker 2: until the end, he's pretty much awful.
- 36:41Speaker 1: He's just, like, a shitty trash guy.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:43Speaker 1: A shitty walking tour guy. They should have thrown his
- 36:47Speaker 1: ass out of the moving van when they had the chance.
- 36:49Speaker 2: You knew straight out of the gate when they mentioned
- 36:52Speaker 2: that he had to give the people coins and say
- 36:54Speaker 2: they were paying customers at the laundromat, that the people
- 36:56Speaker 2: were fucking sick of seeing him there. Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 1: He's like, now you have to take these.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Now you're technically a paying customer. Yeah.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you could tell just by the tone in his
- 37:08Speaker 1: voice that the people were probably trying not to make
- 37:10Speaker 1: eye contact with him anymore. They're just like, shut the
- 37:12Speaker 1: fuck up. Why did I pay to go on this
- 37:15Speaker 1: fucking dumb guy's tour? Fuck me. Can I get my
- 37:18Speaker 1: 20 bucks back? Is there any fucking refunds on this
- 37:21Speaker 1: lame-ass tour that we're going on?
- 37:22Speaker 2: God, this town sucks.
- 37:24Speaker 1: God, is there anything better to do in Portland than
- 37:26Speaker 1: to listen to this asshole make up a story about
- 37:29Speaker 1: how he got molested by a three-fingered man? What a
- 37:32Speaker 1: story to make up.
- 37:34Speaker 2: People are booing him in his walking tour. Like, oh,
- 37:38Speaker 2: my God. Too bad this isn't real, because I feel
- 37:41Speaker 2: like we would be compelled to, like, go out and
- 37:43Speaker 2: hit the door and, like, fucking heckle the Hulk. Boo!
- 37:48Speaker 2: Fuck you! Hey, not the victim shaming. You fucking suck!
- 37:52Speaker 1: I just show up wearing a shirt that says, Bobby's gay.
- 37:54Speaker 1: And he's just like, what's that all about? Oh, it's
- 37:58Speaker 1: a different Bobby.
- 37:59Speaker 2: You don't know him.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a band, actually, from Oregon.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Portland.
- 38:07Speaker 1: You should look them up sometime. Don't worry. Don't worry
- 38:11Speaker 1: about it. Can I get a picture with you? It
- 38:13Speaker 1: just has an arrow pointing.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Can you point at my shirt? Can you point at
- 38:17Speaker 2: my shirt? It's not you, but can you do this
- 38:21Speaker 2: for me, please?
- 38:22Speaker 1: It's just a coincidence.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Can I put this in your mouth? Just start doing it.
- 38:26Speaker 2: He's just like, ah, that's it.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I'm fucking done.
- 38:29Speaker 2: He has, like, mace in his trench coat. I don't
- 38:31Speaker 2: know why I keep going back to him in a
- 38:33Speaker 2: trench coat. Like, I feel like he's in, like, a tan, like, belted, like,
- 38:38Speaker 2: Carmen Sandiego-ass, like, hat on the inside. Yes. God. Just
- 38:44Speaker 2: Dick Tracy as hell. Yeah, I bet the jacket was
- 38:47Speaker 2: fucking nice, though.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Oh, dude, definitely had one of those little detective hats
- 38:50Speaker 1: for some reason.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I bet he's fucking stumped, too. Yeah.
- 38:54Speaker 1: See, that's why there's like one point where they're constantly
- 38:57Speaker 1: like bugging about trying to go to his house. And
- 38:58Speaker 1: he's like, no, you can't go to my house. I
- 39:01Speaker 1: was kind of like, well, no shit. He doesn't want
- 39:02Speaker 1: you to go to his house. Cause it probably stinks
- 39:04Speaker 1: like fuck. Like, yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 2: You're going to his ass in here.
- 39:09Speaker 1: You guys are already like disbelieving everything he says. Do
- 39:12Speaker 1: you think he wants to go to your, his house?
- 39:14Speaker 1: And then you guys act nice to him. And then
- 39:16Speaker 1: as soon as you get in the van, start recording yourself,
- 39:18Speaker 1: like talk shit about how shitty his house is. And
- 39:21Speaker 1: he knows that's what's going to happen. They're just like, dude,
- 39:24Speaker 1: that motherfucker, he smelled like cat piss and he didn't
- 39:27Speaker 1: even have any cats, dude. It's like, what the fuck's
- 39:29Speaker 1: going on?
- 39:30Speaker 2: On he was around one cat and it just rained
- 39:32Speaker 2: and then like fucking this poor trench coat was.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Stinky dude i yeah just raw just raw meat on
- 39:39Speaker 1: the living room floor god just pile piles of dog
- 39:45Speaker 1: shit I.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Don't think he, like, looked stinky, but I think he's probably.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Like, had a aroma. Yeah. Well, his house is probably
- 39:53Speaker 1: also a meth lab, I guess.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:55Speaker 1: So that probably doesn't smell very good either.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, because no one, not enough people knew
- 40:00Speaker 2: him for him to be, like, buying it from multiple people.
- 40:03Speaker 2: So he was definitely.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Yeah, cooking.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Just when.
- 40:07Speaker 2: When did... Is Mark back yet?
- 40:09Speaker 1: No, no. Mark's not back until like later on. So
- 40:13Speaker 1: in episode four, I think, no, you're fine. I'm just
- 40:16Speaker 1: trying to, I'm looking over. I took like just some
- 40:19Speaker 1: really brief notes. So actually the next episode, we'll get
- 40:22Speaker 1: back to Mark. I think this is where all we
- 40:25Speaker 1: find out is the cassette tape. And then the Bobby
- 40:28Speaker 1: is starting to kind of like maybe take advantage of Ruben.
- 40:32Speaker 1: because he believes in his story and he wants to
- 40:34Speaker 1: find Mark so bad. There is also one other thing
- 40:36Speaker 1: that just is another like layer of Bobby shittiness. He
- 40:40Speaker 1: gets mad at the show runners because they recommend like
- 40:43Speaker 1: some other people to a different Polybius documentary. And he's like,
- 40:46Speaker 1: why didn't you fucking recommend me? And they're just like,
- 40:49Speaker 1: I don't know, because they're doing like a different story
- 40:52Speaker 1: about Polybius, more like the history, not your story. And
- 40:55Speaker 1: he's just like, well, this seems like you guys are
- 40:58Speaker 1: trying to fuck me over. He's just so mad about it.
- 41:00Speaker 2: God, yeah, that was.
- 41:02Speaker 1: It was tough.
- 41:04Speaker 2: It was tough. Dude was a great, played an awful
- 41:07Speaker 2: person really well.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Yeah, man. But then episode five, they find Mark's car
- 41:12Speaker 1: at like an abandoned house.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:15Speaker 1: And his car is like.
- 41:17Speaker 2: He had the parking ticket mailed to him. Yeah, that's
- 41:20Speaker 2: what it was. His sister called or something. Yeah, his
- 41:24Speaker 2: sister called and had the parking ticket mailed to her house.
- 41:29Speaker 1: But later on, I didn't probably write this down. You
- 41:33Speaker 1: just reminded me. Later on, I think they realized that,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I don't know if this is giving too much away.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I don't know how chronological we should be with this
- 41:41Speaker 1: or it doesn't matter. It probably doesn't matter. I don't
- 41:44Speaker 1: think so.
- 41:45Speaker 2: He'll be all right. Okay.
- 41:46Speaker 1: So it was actually Bobby pretending to be Mark's sister
- 41:49Speaker 1: that mailed the ticket because he wanted them to find
- 41:52Speaker 1: Mark's car. Did you catch that part later on? It's
- 41:54Speaker 1: like really brief towards the end.
- 41:57Speaker 2: I guess not.
- 41:58Speaker 1: I think I noticed it on the second listen through maybe,
- 42:01Speaker 1: but it's like, so at some point, I can't remember.
- 42:04Speaker 1: It's when they're talking to Ruben, like towards the end,
- 42:06Speaker 1: I think they realize, or maybe it's when they're talking
- 42:08Speaker 1: to Mark at the end. I can't remember, but it's
- 42:11Speaker 1: something about like, Bobby had this whole thing set up
- 42:14Speaker 1: to where he wanted them to go there, find the car,
- 42:17Speaker 1: find the house, find the, the sobriety journal.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Yeah. He like had it all set up. Cause he's
- 42:24Speaker 1: acting weird when they go there. They're like, he won't
- 42:26Speaker 1: talk to them and shit. They like pick Bobby up
- 42:29Speaker 1: in the van and they're just like, yeah, he was
- 42:31Speaker 1: kind of being shitty. He wouldn't like talk to us
- 42:33Speaker 1: and he's barely been answering our calls and all this stuff.
- 42:37Speaker 2: That was because he was mad at them over this
- 42:40Speaker 2: stuff with that other documentary.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So he's acting like shitty towards them, and
- 42:47Speaker 1: then they find Mark's dusty-ass car, and they're just like,
- 42:50Speaker 1: it looks like no one's been here for a while. Yeah,
- 42:55Speaker 1: why wouldn't it be? Right. Continuity.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Continuity.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I mean, the believability in this show is off the charts.
- 43:04Speaker 1: It's off the charts. They're fucking nailing it.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:08Speaker 1: And then as soon as they find this house that
- 43:10Speaker 1: they think Mark might be staying in, Bobby goes to
- 43:13Speaker 1: the backyard and does a B & E on the house.
- 43:17Speaker 1: He's just like, guys, there's a door open back here.
- 43:21Speaker 1: And they come and the window's busted out.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Yeah, dude. That was when I started thinking that Bobby
- 43:29Speaker 2: had something to do with Mark. Or I thought maybe
- 43:31Speaker 2: Bobby was Mark or something. Or not Bobby was Mark,
- 43:35Speaker 2: but Bobby had something to do. Because it started getting
- 43:38Speaker 2: really weird right there. And then he disappeared in the house.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Once they got in, he disappeared. Oh, my God. This
- 43:45Speaker 2: person we can't find. I found his fucking journal.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, that's weird. Anyway, you guys can just have it.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I don't need it. And they're like, maybe we should
- 43:55Speaker 1: call the cops. This looks a little like scary. And
- 43:57Speaker 1: he's like the cops, I'm going to get into the fucking.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I'm going to get an Uber. Yeah. I don't talk
- 44:05Speaker 2: to the cops. Right. That was when it all started
- 44:08Speaker 2: feeling super, super weird. Yeah. Like, like just the, like, again,
- 44:12Speaker 2: great storytelling. yeah just an uneasy feeling of like the
- 44:17Speaker 2: the did you ever see the catfish movie like before yeah.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Like well i saw it after well and.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I just mean like the they like they made the
- 44:26Speaker 2: movie before they did the show yeah i didn't like
- 44:29Speaker 2: it it just there was like a weird feeling through
- 44:32Speaker 2: that whole movie that like something in this captured like
- 44:35Speaker 2: the the yeah And an overtone of like them just
- 44:40Speaker 2: being dishonest. And you can feel that I think maybe
- 44:43Speaker 2: just subconsciously, I thought that he had something to do
- 44:47Speaker 2: with Mark. And that was making me feel like the,
- 44:50Speaker 2: the thing from catfish where it was, she was everybody.
- 44:53Speaker 2: I thought it was going to dwindle down to something
- 44:56Speaker 2: like that, to where, to where Bobby was, was playing
- 45:00Speaker 2: all of these people that had something to do with
- 45:03Speaker 2: this story. I thought it was going to end up
- 45:05Speaker 2: coming out that it was Bobby on that recording doing
- 45:08Speaker 2: that whack fucking Russian voice. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I thought that was going to be a.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Thing, but as it unraveled, that wasn't how it happened.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's a good point. That would have been
- 45:19Speaker 1: a really cool way for it to go as well, honestly.
- 45:22Speaker 1: And I kind of got that feeling, too. There was
- 45:24Speaker 1: a part of it where I was like, this reminds
- 45:26Speaker 1: me of he's playing them from all angles.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't want the cops to come there and
- 45:33Speaker 2: recognize him and be like, what I had thought was
- 45:36Speaker 2: they were going to, like, rattle off another name. Like,
- 45:39Speaker 2: the cops would recognize him as somebody else.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yeah, oh shit, I didn't think of that. Yeah, that's
- 45:45Speaker 1: a good point. Yeah, yeah, no, that would have been
- 45:49Speaker 1: another fucking, yeah, really interesting way to tell this story, honestly.
- 45:54Speaker 1: We need to make our own version of Polybius.
- 45:56Speaker 2: I was going to say, we need to make the
- 45:57Speaker 2: soundtrack for this.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Polybius Part 2, yeah. Dude, yeah. There might be some
- 46:03Speaker 1: Static X on this soundtrack as well.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Dude, no doubt. No doubt. Definitely some Nirvana.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, whenever.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Some dark shit, bro.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Some dark shit when he's doing meth, yeah.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Fuck yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 1: No, whenever he's getting all the high scores on Tempest,
- 46:21Speaker 1: just have some Static X blast him. That fucking push it. Yeah,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and he's just fucking hammering away on the buttons, just.
- 46:28Speaker 2: He's pushing it.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:30Speaker 2: He keeps having like, he starts sweating and flashing back
- 46:33Speaker 2: to the fucking doctor, like putting his fucking fingers in
- 46:36Speaker 2: his mouth.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, just get.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Bitch. Put your hand in my face.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Down with the sickness kicks in, dude.
- 46:47Speaker 2: You have that fired up over there? Yeah.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Fucking handsome with that.
- 46:53Speaker 2: God, that's so awesome.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Right, whenever he's fucking getting ready to bust out of
- 46:58Speaker 1: the secret tunnel and just fucking.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Bust out of the doctor's secret tunnel.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And the doctor with his
- 47:06Speaker 1: three fingers is chasing after little Mark.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Get back here!
- 47:09Speaker 1: Get back here, little Mark! Fucking grabs his ass like this.
- 47:14Speaker 2: He picks them both up. Oh wait, I guess it
- 47:17Speaker 2: was only one hand. Maybe it was both.
- 47:20Speaker 1: It might be both.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Do you think they'd call him the six-finger man or
- 47:22Speaker 2: the double three-finger hand man?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Dude, the six-shooter? Yeah, man. Six-double hand man. Dude, that
- 47:28Speaker 1: comes into the arcade. Which one of you little boys
- 47:31Speaker 1: was coming home with me?
- 47:32Speaker 2: Put him up, you little bastards.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Who's got the high score on Tempest tonight? It's like Bobby.
- 47:38Speaker 2: No, Big B, baby.
- 47:40Speaker 1: B to the double B over there.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Bobby's like me.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Dude, yeah, because there's one part.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Oh, Bobby's got to play Tempest. Oh, no.
- 47:50Speaker 1: He's got to go to the dog's secret room. Get
- 47:56Speaker 1: his ass back there. Ruined his whole life because he's
- 48:03Speaker 1: too good at video games.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Should have stayed out of the black box, young man.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Should have stuck to Tempest. You had to go wandering
- 48:09Speaker 2: down to the mystery machine.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Fucked up, dog. So it's a blessing and a curse
- 48:17Speaker 1: to be that good at video games.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Dude, I swear. Damn.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I didn't think of this earlier.
- 48:23Speaker 1: I'm going to get Tempest playing. I got a long
- 48:26Speaker 1: play pulled up of the game Tempest.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Fuck. Now I have to rehab a quick little 12-piece.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Damn, son.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Holy shit. Where'd you find this?
- 48:40Speaker 1: I have not. This is like, I love retro games
- 48:44Speaker 1: and shit like that, but I haven't played a lot
- 48:46Speaker 1: of the really old arcade games. Like sometimes I see
- 48:49Speaker 1: them and I'm just like, what the fuck do you
- 48:51Speaker 1: even do there?
- 48:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm watching it back here and I'm like, fuck
- 48:54Speaker 2: are they doing?
- 48:55Speaker 1: It's kind of like, yeah, you set your difficulty and
- 48:58Speaker 1: I guess you just like fly around and shoot.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 49:01Speaker 1: I see what you're doing now. Okay. That's kind of cool.
- 49:04Speaker 2: That's actually me playing that.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Oh damn.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:08Speaker 1: You're the angry video game. You're Bobby?
- 49:12Speaker 2: I'm Bobby. It's me.
- 49:13Speaker 1: I don't know if you can see my title on here.
- 49:17Speaker 2: But it's 3FingDaddy at Tempest.com. He is the doctor. He's Dr.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Tempest.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Dr. Tempy.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Dr. Threebanger. Where were we at? I'm lost.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Great question. I think we just finished episode five. Yeah,
- 49:36Speaker 2: because they were calling the cops.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, and Bobby diffs out.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and Bobby left.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Okay, so they do find, in episode five, they find
- 49:46Speaker 1: in the sobriety notebook a guy's name and number written
- 49:50Speaker 1: down that just says Frank Seller, and that's the guy
- 49:53Speaker 1: they call, and they think it's about drugs. They think
- 49:56Speaker 1: this guy's a drug dealer, and they find out it's
- 49:58Speaker 1: actually a guy selling arcade cabinets, and he's kind of, like,
- 50:01Speaker 1: weird about it for some reason.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Yeah, well, and then, like, at the same time, though, like,
- 50:05Speaker 2: If somebody called you and gave you that whole spiel
- 50:08Speaker 2: about like documentary and you're still like, I don't know
- 50:12Speaker 2: how much I want to tell you.
- 50:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Cause he is, I guess, kind of
- 50:17Speaker 1: like back market arcade seller. I don't know if.
- 50:19Speaker 2: That's clearly connected to a method that you're trying to
- 50:23Speaker 2: get in touch with. So no, I won't give you
- 50:25Speaker 2: my personal information. No, thank you. You found my number
- 50:29Speaker 2: in someone's sobriety journal that they left behind. What, are
- 50:33Speaker 2: you trying to say they called me and didn't need
- 50:35Speaker 2: it anymore? Fuck you.
- 50:37Speaker 1: That's a good point, yeah.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Thought I was a drug dealer? Fuck off. Do you
- 50:42Speaker 2: need some drugs?
- 50:44Speaker 1: You need drugs or you need some... If you do,
- 50:48Speaker 1: you know, I might know a guy.
- 50:50Speaker 2: I got a little bit of that Ms. Pac-Man and
- 50:52Speaker 2: a little bit of that Bobby Brown. You feel me?
- 50:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I might know a three-fingered man that could hook
- 50:59Speaker 1: you up with a thing or two.
- 51:02Speaker 2: A finger, dude.
- 51:03Speaker 1: He needs something. So they talk to that guy. Ruben
- 51:06Speaker 1: gets confirmation that Mark's back on meth, doing meth again.
- 51:10Speaker 1: And from this point on, Bobby disappears. He won't answer
- 51:14Speaker 1: his phone anymore. And they're just like, fuck, I guess
- 51:17Speaker 1: we're not going to talk to his ass again.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess that's it.
- 51:23Speaker 1: That's a wrap.
- 51:24Speaker 2: That's a wrap on Bobby. That was when Ruben went
- 51:27Speaker 2: back to Georgia, correct?
- 51:29Speaker 1: What's that? Sorry, it was cutting out.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Sorry. At that point, Ruben left, didn't he?
- 51:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Ruben dips out too because he's like, well,
- 51:39Speaker 1: Mark's on meth. Bobby's not here anymore.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:44Speaker 1: And Bobby and Ruben were kind of tight at that point, too.
- 51:47Speaker 1: So I think he was bummed out that he wasn't
- 51:49Speaker 1: a part of the story. He's like, damn, my best bud, Bobby,
- 51:52Speaker 1: who's my only connection to Mark, who's a meth head,
- 51:55Speaker 1: dipped out of the whole situation. And that pretty much
- 51:58Speaker 1: brings us to episode six. In six, basically, we get
- 52:02Speaker 1: the confirmation that Bobby is dealing meth to Mark. And
- 52:05Speaker 1: then on top of that.
- 52:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just like, oh, that makes sense. Actually, you know,
- 52:13Speaker 1: that makes a lot more sense than him trying to
- 52:15Speaker 1: find him to play video games or whatever.
- 52:17Speaker 2: It was never about the games. It was never about
- 52:21Speaker 2: the games. It was always about the math.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, he's like, wait a minute, I think I know
- 52:24Speaker 1: a guy in Portland, Oregon who's full of shit that
- 52:27Speaker 1: will sell me math.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I think I know a guy that'll let me park
- 52:31Speaker 2: a fucking Prius at his house and fucking let me
- 52:34Speaker 2: get strung out and leave my sobriety journal behind at Airbnb. Yeah.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Yeah, he told me that if I do his walking
- 52:41Speaker 1: tours for him, he'll hook me up with a free
- 52:43Speaker 1: baggie every month. Not a bad deal. He told me
- 52:49Speaker 1: if I keep the tour away from the laundromat that
- 52:51Speaker 1: the Coinstar used to be in, that I could do
- 52:54Speaker 1: free laundry every week. Mark's leading the tour, strung out
- 52:58Speaker 1: on meth, pretending to be Bobby.
- 53:00Speaker 2: I'm Bobby! I love that, yeah, because you know straight
- 53:04Speaker 2: out of the gate there's some sort of income gap.
- 53:07Speaker 2: somewhere else. Yeah. Cause he said like, I, it was
- 53:09Speaker 2: like the first episode. He's like, I'm not doing it
- 53:12Speaker 2: for the money. Like he said, no, he said I'd
- 53:14Speaker 2: make more money working it. I think he said McDonald's,
- 53:17Speaker 2: I think McDonald's or Walmart. And it's like, well, the
- 53:21Speaker 2: love of the game.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Just loves giving these.
- 53:24Speaker 2: I just want to fucking, I'm going to dedicate my
- 53:26Speaker 2: life to hoping I can convince somebody that this video
- 53:30Speaker 2: game made me suck a three fingered man.
- 53:32Speaker 1: Somebody's got to believe you. This thing's ruining my fucking life.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I cannot rest until someone believes that this video game
- 53:41Speaker 1: is the reason why I sucked off an old man
- 53:44Speaker 1: when I was a little kid. This is not gonna happen, guys.
- 53:48Speaker 1: My parents don't believe me. The fucking bitch reporter doesn't
- 53:51Speaker 1: believe me.
- 53:53Speaker 2: She wasn't even fucking there, but she doesn't believe me.
- 53:55Speaker 1: And she saw the three-fingered man, and she still doesn't
- 53:58Speaker 1: believe me. He went to her house and harassed her
- 54:00Speaker 1: and almost ran her over with a van.
- 54:03Speaker 2: But she didn't believe it because my fucking... Bitch mom
- 54:06Speaker 2: said I'm a liar? Fuck her. You gotta believe she's dead.
- 54:09Speaker 2: You gotta believe me or her. Yeah, who? I made
- 54:12Speaker 2: it out of the forest. Where the fuck's my mom at? Dead.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Send her ass to the woods and see if she
- 54:16Speaker 1: can make it. No shit.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Mom, she would never make it out of the fucking woods.
- 54:22Speaker 2: No shot. My God.
- 54:25Speaker 1: His story is also that he ran to a gas
- 54:27Speaker 1: station and called his parents from a payphone. The thing is, like,
- 54:32Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Maybe he didn't. Didn't hadn't he ran away like, yeah,
- 54:37Speaker 2: like the week before that.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Or something, something like that. Yeah. Or something. I don't know.
- 54:42Speaker 2: He was fishy to me. Yeah.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I think he probably, he probably rolled his ass down
- 54:47Speaker 1: a hill and got all dusty and was like, you
- 54:50Speaker 1: think I would do this to myself? Yeah, he probably
- 54:53Speaker 1: would to make up a backstory of why he'd been
- 54:56Speaker 1: sucking off old Doc at the arcade factory.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Yeah, no shit. Just say you went home with the
- 55:02Speaker 2: doctor because he gave you top ten high scores on Tempest, bro. Yeah,
- 55:06Speaker 2: admit it. Just be up front with us and we
- 55:08Speaker 2: can fucking move on from this.
- 55:11Speaker 1: We know you're not that good at Tempest. We saw
- 55:13Speaker 1: your ass get wrecked in the tournament.
- 55:14Speaker 2: No, we had... We were at the fucking tournament, bro.
- 55:17Speaker 1: We know. We know your secret, Bobby. You've been sucking
- 55:20Speaker 1: up the dogs to high school.
- 55:22Speaker 2: They weren't.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Nobody fucking kidnapped you.
- 55:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Dumbass.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, his parents have to be pissed as hell
- 55:28Speaker 1: at him. They're just like, you get all this media
- 55:30Speaker 1: at our house, this journalist keeps fucking trying to interview us.
- 55:33Speaker 1: He was like, the cops questioned my parents seven times.
- 55:36Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, of course they're pissed at you. You're like,
- 55:38Speaker 1: we don't want to talk to the fucking cops anymore.
- 55:40Speaker 2: They're sitting and talking about the fucking cops. Yeah.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Damn, dude. There's some other part earlier on, too, when
- 55:46Speaker 1: they're talking to one of the video game tournament hosts.
- 55:49Speaker 1: And he talks about how, like, when Bobby lost at Tempest,
- 55:51Speaker 1: how he, like, threw a fit and got banned from
- 55:53Speaker 1: the tournaments.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:56Speaker 1: And they're just like, yeah, it was kind of uncomfortable
- 55:58Speaker 1: to see, like, a grown-up act like that or something.
- 56:01Speaker 1: I was like, dude, yeah, fuck this guy.
- 56:04Speaker 2: And then the girl, what episode was the girl in
- 56:08Speaker 2: that they said she put out a wanted ad in
- 56:11Speaker 2: one of the local newspapers or something?
- 56:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that is coming up in episode six. Yeah, no,
- 56:19Speaker 1: you're good. Honestly, you're spot on. Yeah, dude, you got it.
- 56:24Speaker 1: It's the Polybius game, dude. I mean, look at this game.
- 56:29Speaker 1: I feel like he was probably playing this game and
- 56:31Speaker 1: he just didn't realize it.
- 56:32Speaker 2: He just had a seizure.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Yeah, look at all these shapes and colors and shit, dude.
- 56:36Speaker 1: This should be freaking.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Me out, too. I've got myself staring at it several times.
- 56:39Speaker 1: I know, I can't. It's fucking tripping me out. Honestly,
- 56:43Speaker 1: I might have to download this game now. Okay, so yeah,
- 56:46Speaker 1: so there's this lady that they interview who dated Bobby,
- 56:50Speaker 1: but she definitely did not have sex with him. She
- 56:53Speaker 1: wanted to make that very clear. They're like, yeah, so
- 56:57Speaker 1: how was dating Bobby? Was he like a fun date?
- 56:59Speaker 1: And she's like, Yeah, he was nice. We definitely didn't
- 57:02Speaker 1: have sex. And they're just like, we believe you.
- 57:04Speaker 2: But it was like a very believable, like, let me
- 57:06Speaker 2: get this out of the way before you ask anything
- 57:09Speaker 2: more than surface level questions.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Bobby did not put his three fingers in me.
- 57:13Speaker 2: Yeah, Bobby didn't. Bobby didn't hit me with the three Ps, baby.
- 57:18Speaker 2: I want to get that. I want to set that
- 57:20Speaker 2: down and make sure that we're all on the same page.
- 57:24Speaker 2: I didn't fuck Bobby. Not a chance. No way.
- 57:29Speaker 1: He did not fuck me and I did not fuck him.
- 57:31Speaker 1: But yeah, they all met. They met because of a
- 57:35Speaker 1: Miss Connections ad from the newspaper. Apparently she would like
- 57:39Speaker 1: read the Miss Connection ads or whatever, like out loud
- 57:43Speaker 1: at the coffee shop that she worked at. And Bobby
- 57:45Speaker 1: was always just hanging out there. So he like put
- 57:48Speaker 1: an ad in about her and she recognized that it
- 57:51Speaker 1: was about her. And then she, then he asked her
- 57:53Speaker 1: out on a date and she was like, yeah, sure.
- 57:55Speaker 1: We go on a date. But she like made a
- 57:57Speaker 1: bunch of other comments. Like anytime I tried to like,
- 58:00Speaker 1: you know, even just like touch his shoulder or if
- 58:01Speaker 1: I laughed and like put my hand on his shoulder,
- 58:03Speaker 1: he would like jump and scoot away from me. And
- 58:06Speaker 1: that stuff too. I was like, well, it's because he
- 58:08Speaker 1: got finger fucked by a three finger man when he
- 58:11Speaker 1: was 14. You know, I mean, it makes sense.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Yeah. It all checks out. It does!
- 58:31Speaker 1: They did a good job with this, again.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Oh, go ahead. We can come back to it, because
- 58:37Speaker 2: it's something at the end.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, okay, okay. But then she basically reveals that
- 58:42Speaker 1: as soon as she found out about his Polybius story,
- 58:45Speaker 1: she dumped his ass. She was not, like, she didn't, like,
- 58:49Speaker 1: give a shit. She wasn't, like, sentimental at all. She
- 58:51Speaker 1: wasn't like, damn, did that really happen to you or anything?
- 58:54Speaker 1: She just heard about it once, like, through, like, the grapevine.
- 58:58Speaker 1: And she was like, fuck that. I'm not talking to
- 59:01Speaker 1: that asshole.
- 59:02Speaker 2: Bro, are you the Tempest King?
- 59:04Speaker 1: Dude, you the guy? You the guy that got fucked
- 59:08Speaker 1: in the woods? Are you kidding me? See you later, dumbass.
- 59:11Speaker 2: All right, nerd, I'm out.
- 59:14Speaker 1: That's enough. Never call me again, fuckface.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Yeah, don't ever put out an anonymous M4F ad again
- 59:22Speaker 2: that loosely references me. Just don't.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Hey, wait a minute. Did you say that you got
- 59:28Speaker 1: kidnapped and fucked.
- 59:29Speaker 2: When you were 14?
- 59:32Speaker 1: I think we need to cut this out. How about
- 59:34Speaker 1: you lose my number then?
- 59:36Speaker 2: To the weird guy at the coffee shop that got fucked.
- 59:45Speaker 2: It was a misconnection for a reason.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Right, yeah. I spit in your drink. Never talk to
- 59:51Speaker 1: me again.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Don't come back. What up, G?
- 59:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Sorry, I just.
- 59:59Speaker 2: Fuck, that's awesome. God, that rules.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I'm getting lost on this.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Yeah. They lost the sauce.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: For real, man. Fucking Bobby's secret sauce, which is probably meth.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: That's true. What if he was actually Dr.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Pepper?
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Fuck. Dude, what if he was... The 23 flavors. It
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: wasn't 23 flavors. The three was how many fingers he had.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: And two was the amount of fingers he was missing.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: That's how they got two threes.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Two hands, three fingers. Total.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Oh, my God. It was Dr. Pepper all along.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I hope the fucking Spotify soundtrack guy is hearing this. Boy, oh, boy.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Did we just crack the code, dude? This is an exclusive.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I'm going to send this to the people that made
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: this show, except I might edit out the part where
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: we admit that we know that it's fake and then
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: be like, we solved it. They're just going to be like,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: what a fucking bunch of dumbasses.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: You know, idiots. Did you guys know Bobby's gay? Oh
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: my fucking God. Were you even listening, dude? Of course
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: we knew Bobby was gay.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I think him and Ruben were fucking.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Why do you think Ruben liked him so much, dude?
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: And Mark.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Gay meth. Gay meth guys. It always boils down to
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: gay meth guys.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: That's what I've always heard.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: When you think about it, did you read any of
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the comments on these Spotify episodes though? No, dude, everybody
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: thought it, everyone thought it was real. There were people
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: arguing in the comments about like.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: So like when this came out, was it not known
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: until afterwards?
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I saw people describe. Yeah.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I saw people describing it as like the Blair witch
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: project of like podcasts. I was like, damn, that's pretty sick. Yeah.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: No.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: People are arguing in the comments. Like they're all the
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: old comments from when it came out. And there's people
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that are like, dude, the showrunners are starting to fucking
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: piss me off and stuff like that. Like getting mad.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Like I think it's an episode to the one where
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Bobby like comes unglued. So, you know, that guy that
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: left that comment is probably a shit. Probably a piece
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: of shit too.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: He's siding with Bobby.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: How do you side with Bobby? Fuck Bobby, dude.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Honestly. Honestly. Bobby was just awful. One of the worst
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: in a show in a while. Just very unlikable. He
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: was a good character.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Very good character, yeah. I'm super impressed by this whole thing. Yeah. Shit.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: So now we're on the final episode, episode seven. And
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: this is, I don't, I can't remember if I mentioned
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: this or not, but there's like a cipher in Mark's
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: sobriety journal, which that was a whole other curve ball
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: when they're like, but Dan, there's a cipher here. We
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: got to solve it. And they actually solve it. I
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: was like.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: With the plebeian code or the plebeian. What was it called?
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: The plebeian.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Something like that. The plebeian code or the plebeian square
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: or something. Was it the plebeian square, maybe? Here, I'll
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: look it up real quick just to be safe.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I guess I'm literally on a computer.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: No, that's all right. I got one. The plebeian square. Yeah,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the plebeian square. There we go. Yeah, so they solve
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: the plebeian square, and it gives them coordinates to a
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: place in the woods. And they're basically, like, trying to decide, like,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: should we do this? Like, this is kind of fucked up. Honestly,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: in real life, I would only do this after I bought, like,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: two machine guns. Like, if both the showrunners had a
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: machine gun. Yeah, like, if.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: We were all heavily armed and, like.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Rolling 3D. You know, he's a meth dealer. He has
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: like childhood trauma. No, you know, he's like against the
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: world kind of guy. And he's leading you out to
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: the middle of nowhere, like to the middle of the
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: state park.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Is definitely there for him to fucking kill everybody right now.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: You can read the headlines like you can just imagine like, oh, yeah,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: these guys get fucking murdered in the woods.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so I would probably want at least two
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Uzis per guy, just fully locked and loaded. And then
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: maybe I'd go up to the coordinates that Bobby left
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: for them. But they're just like.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Yeah, they all made a point to be like, we're
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: going to have to just kind of hope at some
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: point because there's no chance we're going to have signal
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: the whole time that we're out here. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: It's kind of fucked. It's kind of a fucking dumb plan.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I was like, realistically, I would never probably do this.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Like I said... Unless I was with, like, 20 men
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: with shotguns. And even then, it's still like, do you
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: really want to get in a fucking firefight with Bobby?
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Not really. Like, even if you come out on top,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: that's not a fun memory.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Yeah, what's best case scenario here versus worst case scenario here?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Best case scenario, we end up, like, blasting him. And
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: then we still blasted a guy. It's like, that's not good.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I want to be fun.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: I think they were just banking on... if it was
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: a real place and Bobby had already been there, then,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: then Bobby wouldn't do anything to hurt them. If it was,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: if there was something there that was going to prove
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: any sort of, you know, basis of his story. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: But that, that obviously doesn't happen. What does happen is
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: they find a cell phone in the woods, like around
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: the coordinates and they're like, Oh shit. And they call,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: they call Bobby's number and the phone starts ringing. So
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: they're like, Oh shit, this is Bobby's cell phone. So
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: they take that shit back to their Airbnb. But when
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: they get back to their Airbnb, all the light bulbs
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: have been removed from inside of it.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: Yeah, what the fuck? Yeah.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: That's the thing. Around this time is when I would
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: have been like, all right, we need to call the
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: FBI or something. Like, what the fuck are we doing here?
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: This guy's going to wreck us.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not calling the dude that owns the fucking house. No.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: I'm calling the police.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm calling the PD, bud. I'm being like, somebody
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: broke in here, stole the light bulbs. It's clearly the
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: meth head.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I was going to say, what a meth head fucking
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: calling card to play fucking light bulb trickery.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Right. Bobby's probably got Mark and Ruben on his side now.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: So you're dealing with three meth heads.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: At least.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Three fingers, three meth heads. It just keeps coming.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: That's easy math. I'm out.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I'm out, dude. I'm done with this shit. Fuck this show.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: This documentary is done. No, it's not for me. I'm
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: not about this. It's fun to listen to, but I
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: don't think I'd put my life on the line for it.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: I want to know how many chances they had to
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: unlock the phone before they finally got to that. As
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: I was listening to that, I'm like, all right. They're
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: being a little loosey-goosey with this, and even for 2017
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: or 18 or whatever, like, phones don't just give you
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: unlimited chances to unlock them. That's true. I didn't even
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: think about that. You had enough chances that you were trying, like,
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: they were trying off-the-wall shit. Yeah. And what ended up working,
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: it was like 1981 or something.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: 1981, yeah.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Yeah. How many tries did you give before you were like,
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: what about the year that Polybius came out? Like, be
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: fucking crazy.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, because they literally tried Polybius as a license plate.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Because they're like, what if.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: We abbreviate Polybius? What would that be? And it's like, okay,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you guys are getting locked out for sure.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Yeah, no way.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: No, that's a good point. I didn't think about that.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: But they're just going on. They're like, try his birthday.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Try his fucking social security number. They probably have his socials.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: 969. That's what mine would have been.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Yeah, let me see. Oh, we're in. They do kind
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: of do that, too. They do 1981. They're like, hey,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: we got it. And then they find a video of
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Bobby walking through the woods that they were just in.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: And it shows him just getting pissed off because he's like,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: where's the tunnel? Where is it? And he's throwing a fit.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: And eventually you hear their voice coming in the distance.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: And then he takes off running and drops his phone.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Well, and right before he said that, though, he said
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: something about God, he was like, God damn it. I
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: know it was real. Yeah. And that was, that was
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: a weird part. That was kind of a strange feeling
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: of like, is this?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I kind of got that vibe from that part.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: It's like, it felt a little.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Like the, yeah. The one tiny speck of this whole
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: thing where I'm like, yeah.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Sucks for him. Like, man, I wanted the fucking rape
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: sewer fucking tunnel lines to be out here too.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I know, dude. I'm sorry, dude. I wanted to believe him.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: As much as I thought he was, like, a shithead
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: throughout the whole thing, I was like, dude, it would be.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: I wanted there to be something. Yeah.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: It would be kind of nice to know that, like,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: this guy is just not some, like, crazy, compulsive, lying asshole.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: But also.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: At the end of the day, the easiest answer is
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: always the most obvious.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: That's true. That is usually... just fucking sucked. He's just
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: a shitty guy. Just a shitty lying guy who probably
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: got molested at the arcade and then made up a
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: bunch of stories about. At first, I thought his story
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: was going to be aliens when he was talking about
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: the three finger guy. I was like, oh, it's an
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: alien in the woods that kidnapped him.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: And it was going to be like some creature from
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: the Plebeus game or something. Yeah.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: But then when it was just like an army guy
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: with three fingers, I was kind of like, okay, I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: don't know which one's more believable, actually.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Right. Like they came into his house and he was
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: frozen and couldn't move. Yeah.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Just fucking ship his ass out.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, get out.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Get him to the woods. We need to fuck this
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: guy or fuck this kid. Why would they just take
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: him to the woods, though? If they're like these government people,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: you know, why would they.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, he got reassigned, remember?
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Doctor signing for fucking kid duty.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: You're going to be on arcade patrol.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Sick. Great.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Yeah, arcades. That's what I signed up for the fucking
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: military for.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: My fucking God.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: But yeah, they're not sure. Like when they're watching this video,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: they're like, is he seriously, is he putting on an
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: act for the video knowing that we're going to find
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: his phone and watch this video? And it just kind
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: of deepens the story and the uncertainty about like what's
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: going on.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: So yeah, you know, I.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like he was almost having
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: a moment of clarity and then he heard them start
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: yelling because he even like, like stops and he's like,
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: if you listen closely, you can hear us start to yell.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: And then you hear him hollering for Bobby. And then
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: you hear the phone, like, tumble and fall down into
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: the woods or into the, like, down in the leaves
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: and shit. Yeah. I don't know. I wanted to believe that, like,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: they were going to keep, they found the creek, didn't they?
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: What's that?
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they found the creek. They find the creek and
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: they're like, they're kind of like, oh shit, are we
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: just going in circles?
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: And then that's kind of when they find the phone too,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I think. And then, so after that, the way that
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: this kind of wrapped up is really what made me
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: like Google more stuff about it too. Because about this time,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: we're kind of getting to the final minutes of the
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: episode and they get a phone interview with Mark Sims,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: who's the meth head that supposedly helped Bobby escape from
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the tunnels when they were kids. And he basically just
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: says like, I didn't know anything about that fucking video game.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I was just buying meth. And they're just kind of like, oh, really?
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: That's interesting. He's like, yeah, I never heard of Polybius.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Great guy. Never met him.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: XJB.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: And then he's like, yeah, I left Reuben because he
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: was cheating on me and it was distracting me from my...
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: He was like a sobriety counselor, basically. So he's like,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I didn't want to ruin all these other people's lives.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: So I ran off to Portland and did meth. Which
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I was kind of like, is that a good explanation?
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: If you're trying to not suck at your job, shouldn't
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you not be doing meth? I get running away, but like...
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Why go by math from Bobby?
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: Now, there was something there, though. He didn't go straight
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: out there. He went there for something else, didn't he?
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: I can't remember. He just went straight to get fucking math.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: See, I don't remember.
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: Because he was keeping the journal while he was there,
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: wasn't he?
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I guess, yeah. Maybe he was trying to just run
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: away from Ruben. Well, because Ruben cheated and he knew
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: he was going to leave. So he left and just went.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: That's what he said. That's what he knew.
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: That town. He rattled off the name of the town.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: He said, all I knew was this town, so that's
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: where I went.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: That's right. So he was just going back there to live,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: and then he ended up relapsing and going back into
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: doing meth.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: And that was when he was talking about turning tricks
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: when he was a kid at the freaking arcade and shit. Yeah.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: So that gets pretty dark, too.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Yeah. It went quick, too. He was like, oh, yeah.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: That stuff at the arcade, yeah, that was fucked up.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: You know, we were all doing what we had to do. Yeah.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: It's kind of like, so is that? And then you
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: kind of start to realize, oh, that's probably what Bobby
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: was up to as well. And he just, like, fabricated
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: this whole story.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Yeah. During the whole Ruben or Mark voicemail, that whole thing,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: that whole interaction with him, as that all unraveled, I'm like,
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: this dude was fucking molested by the doctor when he
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: was little. Yeah. Like that was when it all clicked.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Like, yeah, it all hits.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Cause he kind of, he talks about how he was like,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: you know, willingly like prostituting himself, but then he got
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: cornered by the doctor one day and he's like, the
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: doctor got me alone. But then like the janitor came
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: in or something.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Yeah. I think he said, yeah, he said it was
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: definitely happening, but he didn't know that he did it.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: He didn't know that he was involved in it.
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: So, so that's when we find out the whole, I
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: guess the three finger doc story does pretty wild, pretty
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: wild shit. And you think that's going to be the
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: last twist in this whole thing, but then they get Rube.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: You're like, okay, this has got to be the end.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: You're like, here we go. That makes sense. That wraps
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: everything up nicely. But then they talk to Ruben again,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: and he's like, that's not Mark. He's like, whoever that
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: fucker is.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: Who did you talk to?
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: He's like, what the fuck? He's like, I just saw Mark.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Are you guys fucking with me? Yeah, are you fucking Mark?
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: They're like, Mark just came to my house, and he's
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: strung out on meth. And they're like, oh, he looked
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: pretty good, or he sounded good when we talked to him.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: And so they show him the interview. And he's like,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: that's not Mark's voice. And they're kind of like, what
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: do you mean? He's like, yeah, I don't know who you're,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: I don't know if you're fucking with me or whatever,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: but that's not Mark. He's like dead serious. Like Mark's
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: a clone now.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: That part was pretty wild.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: And that just threw up a whole other bunch of
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: questions where it's like, are we supposed to believe that
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: like the government, this, this like shadowy organization got rid
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: of Mark and replaced him with like a fake Mark?
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: Right. Yeah.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: Or are we supposed to believe that Ruben's just kind
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: of bitter and pissed off and he's like, nah, Mark's
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: on meth.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: That was what I, yeah, like that's what I took
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: away from it was, was he was just disgruntled and
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: ex-lover that didn't, it didn't pan out how he wanted
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: it to. Yeah.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: You could kind of tell the whole time that even
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: though he was like, I know Mark's not going to
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: forgive me that he was thinking like, we're going to
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: get back together though.
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you're not doing that for nothing.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: No, no, you're not. You could just, you know, wait and,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: you know, call his ass or something.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Unless you're trying to pound his butt. You're not going
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: all the way out to Portland.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: No, you're, yeah. You're not going there for closure. You're
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: going there for opener.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh man. He's trying to, yeah. I mean, he's
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: trying to dust off his Prius. If you know what
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I'm saying? Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Might be a little dust on the bottle.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Shit.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Dude, shout out to the fucking three-fing.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Three-finger death punch.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: Hell yeah, dude.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Yes. Yes, sir.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: Fuck yeah. I can't believe my wife was at Theory
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: of a Dead Man tonight. We should have been there, bro.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: What the fuck? Yeah.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I don't think I would have survived the pit, to
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: be honest.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: Probably not. Yeah, I know. My wife took our nice
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: lawn chair, so... I wouldn't have stayed awake in the pit,
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: being honest with you.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Yeah, brother. Was that Bobby?
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: That was Bobby.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Bobby breaks into your house, steals all your light bulbs.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Counts everybody's fingers. Stick them up.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Well, I think that pretty much wraps this one up.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Was there ever a video game that you would have
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: had all 10 spots in? That I would have had what?
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: all 10 high scores in? Like, was there a video
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: game when you were growing up that you would have been, like,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: just the fucking man at? No.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: No chance. Like, the only game I ever really liked
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: that much was, like, Skate 2, and my buddy Miles
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: was always better at it than everybody else, and it
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: fucking sucked, and he made it not fun. Yeah. But
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: it was still fun.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: No SNES games back in the day?
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we played Mario and stuff.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Okay. Mario's sick.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Donkey Kong. Remember we had the adapter you could put
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Game Boy games in it?
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that was awesome.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: That shit was tight. But as far as high scores, no. No, nothing.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: See, I don't think I probably would have either. There
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: was a couple of games I was pretty good at
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: growing up, but like, I don't know. Nowadays, though, when
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I watch people play video games on the internet, I'm like, oh, damn,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: I was kind of dog shit at that game. Like,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: I thought I was good at it, but like. You
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: see people just blasting through Mortal Kombat 2 on the
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: hardest setting, and they're not getting hurt, the whole thing.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: And it's just like, what the fuck, dude? I'm a
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: fucking piece of shit.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: I'm an ass at this game.
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: I should have sold my Super Nintendo a long time ago.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: No shit, I should have been buying Bitcoin back then.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: What the fuck was I doing?
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: Fucking dumbass, dude.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: I'm a fucking nerd.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. God damn it. Yeah, yeah. My two favorite
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: old games right now are probably still Mega Man X
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: and the Maximum Carnage, the Spider-Man game, when you're just side-scrolling,
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: beating up fucking shitty dudes and stuff.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: I was just talking to you about it. My daughter,
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: she's pulled up a video of Michael Jackson somewhere. Some
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: kid was watching Michael Jackson play. somehow he's relevant to
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: her right now yeah and i was telling her about
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: the the moonwalker game on sega where like you could
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: like after so many levels you got bubbles the monkey. And, like,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: you could spin around and fucking, like, throw his hat
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: and shit. Shit was so sweet.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I've only seen videos.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: They're proud of that game on the secondary market now. Yeah,
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: I've seen... I mean.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, there's some crazy games. Like, as far as, like,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: pricing goes and collectibles and shit. Yeah, there's some crazy shit.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: Some games that, like... Well, actually, probably my favorite game
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: for Super Nintendo is probably Earthbound. And that game is, like...
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: For just the cartridge, it's, like, $ 500. Holy fuck! Yeah, dude,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: it's crazy.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not familiar with that one.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: It's like an RPG. It was a Japanese game, but
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: it's really cool. It kind of looks like the... the
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Pokemon games, like the red, yellow, blue, like top down RPG.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: And you get into little battles and stuff, but it
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: just has like a really, really cool story. It's basically
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: about aliens coming to earth. And this little kid teams
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: up with some friends and he has psychic powers and shit.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: It's really good. Hell yeah.
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: Yeah. I didn't, I was more like we had a
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: lot of 64 games, but it was never anything super
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: like storyline based. Yeah. Mortal Kombat trilogy and Madden.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Dude, Madden was sick. Yeah, yeah. I mean, those are
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: all fucking solid games. I feel like you can't go
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: wrong with the classics, dude. So that was our breakdown
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: of the Polybius Conspiracy by Radiotopia. Go check that out
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: on Spotify. Next week or the next time we get together,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: we're going to be doing a breakdown or like almost
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: like a, what would you call it? Like a revamping
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: of the Can't Hardly Wait soundtrack. I'm really excited about that.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: There's like 42 songs or something on the thing. We're
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: going to go through and pick our favorite, like our
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: top 15. So it's almost going to be like a
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: bracket thing in a way. I'm really excited to do that, dude.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: I'm very hyped on that. Yeah.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: It's actually something, listening back to older episodes, something that
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: we have foreshadowed on. So it's cool that... That we're
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: finally doing this. I say finally like it's been years,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: but it's cool that we're doing something like this. I'm
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: really excited about it.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: It's all been leading up to this one moment. Yeah.
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: I hope Spotify soundtrack guys are ready for this one.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Dude, we're going to fucking blow his pants off. All right.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Good night.
