Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today on this fine Tuesday morning, we're going to talk about crop conditions, the Mexican border reopening, and what's happening over there with gold.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Live cattle were at 213.60, down$4.43 and 33 cents.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle were down$4.80 at$3.24 and a quarter.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were down or up a quarter to unchanged to down, kind of depending on what month you were looking at.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: The front month was up a quarter at$81.13.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: As a quote, the grain market live with our quotes from plus$500.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We use Plus$500 T4 trading software.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Wheat was making headlines overnight that Russia announced they'd be repealing some tariffs that would make it easier to export grain.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: As I'm looking at it now, Chicago September wheat is at 673.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: New crop corn is at 515 and a half right now.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And old crop soybeans are at 1214 and a half.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Big interesting things happening over there in Russia that is just always affecting this grain market, especially in wheat.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: As we look at weather currently, there's going to be some kind of scattered to localized rainfall, but it's going to be pretty dang limited across the northern plains and Corn Belt through Friday.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: We might see a few scattered storms Saturday, but it's going to dry out for just a little bit.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: This is the big kicker.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: This is the 31st straight day of 100 degree days in southern Oklahoma with highs around 113 to 114, and the severe heat is going to continue through September 6th.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Man, an absolute scorcher there in southern Oklahoma.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And our thoughts and prayers go out to them as they have been seeing just no relief in sight with regards to this heat.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Grain market discussion for today.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: The reason this is happening is because of topsoil conditions.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Those have fallen drastically, especially in areas like Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, where things have just been kind of dry and pretty poor.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Just and as you can see, those are the redder colored states on that map.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Obviously, the Corn Belt is what really affected the crop tour, but in the grand scheme of things, they're still pretty good in terms of crop conditions.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: The Mexican border reopened yesterday on our cattle discussion.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: A lot of things to digest there.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: We've been waiting for it for a long time.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Just one port reopened.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Not a lot of head went through.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And from the videos that I saw, they were big heavyweight cattle.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: They look to be 1100, 1200 pounders crossing the border.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: So not a lot of gain or margin to be had on those ones.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting if we continue to see heavyweight cattle come across because as we know, the dollar is made on the gain when you fed when you feed cattle.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: And unless they're just shockingly cheap, which I mean they are M-branded cattle, so they're normally a discount.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: There's not a lot of money to be made.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Rollins says that we're opening another port in 30 days.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: We'll see if that happens.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about this and more, and we'll get to that cattle on feed report we had on Friday.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about that with Mr.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands this afternoon on our Fat Tuesday show.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to go on to our premium site at agbull.com.

- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Brought to you from one of the best, Mr.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: On to the big general headline for today.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: It was everywhere this morning, and there were a lot of things.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Tommy and I talked already today that, man, if we brought up every news headline, today's show would be like half an hour long.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: But gold hovers near a three-month high on dollar weakness and the Treasury bond buyback plans.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Gold prices fell just slightly this morning, but hovering around their highest levels in more than three months, supported by a weaker US dollar and the U.S.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Treasury's bond buyback plans.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: As I'm looking at the market here live, September gold is at 46.39 and a half.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Obviously, just down a little bit from where we were, but still pretty dang high.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see how this trades within relation to the dollar.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar for today, the ADP weekly employment change comes out here at 7.15 a.m.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: The FHFA house price index comes out at 8.

- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Home price index comes out at 8, and the new home sales comes out at 9, as well as the board consumer confidence.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, that was a mouthful on the economic calendar.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: I'm glad we got through it somewhat smoothly there.
