January 11 - Compassion That Comes Near · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in scripture and relevant for today, January 11th, when it
• 0:11
feels like no one sees. Have you ever felt invisible?
• 0:15
Like you're doing your best, trying to hold it together,
• 0:17
carrying weight that no one else notices, and the silence makes
• 0:20
it heavier? Maybe you're hurting quietly,
• 0:23
praying quietly, showing up quietly, and wondering if any of
• 0:27
it even matters. When no one checks in, no one
• 0:29
defends you, and no one seems to understand, it's easy to feel
• 0:33
forgotten. Psalm 6 gives words to that kind
• 0:36
of pain. David says in verse 6, I am
• 0:39
weary with my moaning Every night.
• 0:41
I flood my bed with tears. I drench my couch with my
• 0:44
  weeping. That's raw.
• 0:45
That's not polished faith. That's honest anguish.
• 0:49
David isn't pretending to be strong.
• 0:51
He's exhausted, overwhelmed, and emotionally spent, and yet he
• 0:55
brings it all to God. Not cleaned up, not filtered,
• 0:58
just real. That alone reminds us that God
• 1:01
isn't scared of your tears or tired of your prayers.
• 1:04
He sees what no one else sees. Then in Matthew chapter 8, we
• 1:08
meet a Roman centurion, an outsider, someone with authority
• 1:11
yet marked by humility. He comes to Jesus not for
• 1:14
himself, but for his servant, and he says something
• 1:17
incredible. Lord, I am not worthy to have
• 1:20
you come under my roof, but only say the Word and my servant will
• 1:23
be healed. He believed that one word from
• 1:26
Jesus was enough. No performance, no long
• 1:29
explanation, just faith. And Jesus responds.
• 1:32
Healing follows even at a distance, even without a crowd
• 1:35
watching. And tucked into Proverbs chapter
• 1:38
3, verse 30 is a quiet but powerful reminder.
• 1:41
Do not contend with a man for no reason when he has done you no
• 1:44
harm. When we feel unseen or
• 1:46
misunderstood, it's tempting to lash out, to start arguments,
• 1:50
stir drama, or take our frustration out on people who
• 1:53
aren't the real issue. But God calls us higher.
• 1:56
He calls us to trust that he sees the full picture even when
• 1:59
  others don't. Here's the truth.
• 2:02
God sees your silent tears. He hears the prayers you can
• 2:05
barely get out. He notices when you choose peace
• 2:08
instead of retaliation, faith instead of bitterness, humility
• 2:12
instead of pride. And just like with the
• 2:13
centurion, one word from Jesus can shift everything.
• 2:17
Your situation, your heart, your hope.
• 2:19
You are not invisible to God, not for a moment.
• 2:22
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 2:25
seeing me when I feel unseen and unheard.
• 2:28
Thank you for collecting every tear and listening to every
• 2:31
quiet prayer. Help me bring my pain to you
• 2:33
honestly, without fear or shame. Give me faith like the
• 2:37
Centurion, to believe that one word from you can bring healing
• 2:40
and change. And when I'm tempted to react
• 2:42
out of hurt or frustration, help me choose peace.
• 2:45
Remind me that you see it all and you are at work, even when I
• 2:48
can't tell. In Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:52

• 4:11
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 3 verses 27 to
• 4:16
30 World English Bible. Don't withhold good from those
• 4:20
to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
• 4:23
Don't say to your neighbor, go and come again tomorrow.
• 4:26
I will give it to you when you have it by you.
• 4:29
Don't devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells
• 4:31
securely by you. Don't strive with a man without
• 4:34
'cause if he has done you no harm.
• 4:37
Psalm chapter 6, World English Bible for the chief musician on
• 4:41
stringed instruments upon the 8 stringed lyre, a Psalm by David.
• 4:46
Yahweh. Don't rebuke me in your anger,
• 4:48
neither discipline me in your wrath.
• 4:50
Have mercy on me Yahweh, for I am faint.
• 4:52
Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
• 4:55
My soul is also in great anguish, but you Yahweh, how
• 4:58
long return Yahweh, deliver my soul and save me for your loving
• 5:02
kindness sake. For in death there is no memory
• 5:04
of you in she all who shall give you thanks.
• 5:07
I am weary with my groaning every night I flood my bed, I
• 5:11
drenched my couch with my tears. My eye waste away because of
• 5:15
grief. It grows old because of all my
• 5:17
adversaries. Depart from me, all you workers
• 5:20
of iniquity. For Yahweh has heard the voice
• 5:22
of my weeping. Yahweh has heard my
• 5:24
  supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
• 5:27
May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed.
• 5:30
They shall turn back. They shall be disgraced
• 5:32
suddenly. Matthew Chapter 8 World English
• 5:35
Bible When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes
• 5:38
followed him. Behold, A leper came to him and
• 5:41
worshipped him, saying, Lord, if you want to, you can make me
• 5:44
clean. Jesus stretched out his hand and
• 5:46
touched him, saying, I want to be made clean.
• 5:50
  Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
• 5:52
Jesus said to him, See that you tell nobody, but go show
• 5:56
yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded as
• 5:59
a testimony to them. When he came into Capernaum, A
• 6:02
centurion came to him asking him for help, saying, Lord, my
• 6:05
servant lies in the house. Paralyzed, grievously tormented,
• 6:09
Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him.
• 6:12
The centurion answered, Lord, I'm not worthy for you to come
• 6:15
under my roof. Just say the word and my servant
• 6:18
will be healed. For I am also a man under
• 6:20
  authority, having under myself soldiers.
• 6:23
I tell this one go, and he goes and tell another come, and he
• 6:26
comes and tell my servant do this and he does it.
• 6:30
When Jesus heard it, he marvelled and said to those who
• 6:33
followed, Most certainly I tell you, I haven't found so great a
• 6:36
faith, not even in Israel. I tell you that many will come
• 6:40
from the east and the West, and we'll sit down with Abraham,
• 6:43
Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of heaven.
• 6:46
But the children of the Kingdom will be thrown out into the
• 6:48
outer darkness. There will be weeping and
• 6:51
gnashing of teeth. Jesus said to the centurion, Go
• 6:54
your way, let it be done for you.
• 6:55
As you have believed. His servant was healed in that
• 6:58
hour. When Jesus came into Peter's
• 7:00
house, he saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever.
• 7:04
He touched her hand and the fever left her, so she got up
• 7:07
and served him. When evening came, they brought
• 7:10
to him many possessed with demons.
• 7:12
He cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were
• 7:15
sick, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken
• 7:17
through Isaiah the prophet, saying, He took our infirmities
• 7:21
and bore our diseases. Now when Jesus saw great
• 7:24
multitudes around him, he gave the order to depart to the other
• 7:28
side. A scribe came and said to him,
• 7:30
Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.
• 7:33
Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the
• 7:36
sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
• 7:40
Another of his disciples said to him, Lord, allow me first to go
• 7:44
and bury my father. But Jesus said to him, Follow
• 7:47
me, and leave the dead, to bury their own dead.
• 7:50
When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
• 7:53
Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the
• 7:56
boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.
• 8:00
The disciples came to him and woke him up, saying, Save us,
• 8:03
Lord, we are dying. He said to them, Why are you
• 8:06
fearful, O you of little faith? Then he got up, rebuked the wind
• 8:09
and the sea, and there was a great calm.
• 8:11
The men marvelled, saying, What kind of man is this, that even
• 8:15
the wind and the sea obey him? When he came to the other side
• 8:19
into the country of the Gergocenes, 2 people possessed
• 8:21
by demons met him there, coming out of the tombs exceedingly
• 8:25
fierce, so that nobody could pass that way.
• 8:27
Behold, they cried out, saying, What do we have to do with you,
• 8:30
Jesus, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us
• 8:34
before the time? Now there was a herd of many
• 8:36
pigs feeding far away from them. The demons begged him, saying,
• 8:40
If you cast us out, permit us to go away into the herd of pigs.
• 8:44
He said to them, go. They came out and went into the
• 8:46
herd of pigs. And behold, the whole herd of
• 8:49
pigs rushed down the Cliff into the sea and died in the water.
• 8:53
Those who fed them fled and went away into the city and told
• 8:56
everything, including what happened to those who were
• 8:59
possessed with demons. Behold all, the city came out to
• 9:02
meet Jesus. When they saw him, they begged
• 9:05
that He would depart from their borders.
