- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10In death, there are no accidents, no coincidences, no
- 0:14mishaps, and no escapes. Welcome to What's Your Least
- 0:18Favorite Scary Movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:20the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our
- 0:23favorite and least favorite scary movies.
- 0:25Because we believe every horror movie rightfully has his fan
- 0:27base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:29My name's Travis. My name is Jesse.
- 0:30And welcome everybody. We got a new franchise on the
- 0:33show this month. Yep, it's brand new.
- 0:36We're doing Final Destination. It's Season 4.
- 0:39We're gonna be busting this thing open.
- 0:41Announcements don't have any. Nope, no announcements.
- 0:44No, but we also don't have a poll, so don't worry about that.
- 0:47No announcements, no polls, it is what it is, but we're really
- 0:51excited to be starting on this new franchise.
- 0:53If you are a new listener, John, in my Final Destination,
- 0:57welcome. Yeah, what we do is we we talk
- 0:59about a different horror movie every week, but once a month we
- 1:02visit a movie from a franchise. When we first started the show,
- 1:04we did Friday the 13th. We've done screen, we've done
- 1:07saw, we've done Halloween. We just finished up with Texas
- 1:09Chainsaw Massacre. And so now, once a month for the
- 1:12next 6 months, we will be talking about Final Destination
- 1:16in its entire TV. Yeah.
- 1:18So we're going to get into it. Final Destination release March
- 1:2217th, 2000. We watched it on our DVD, but if
- 1:26you would like to watch it, you can stream it on HBO or if you
- 1:28have to rent it, you can rent it on Plex, Amazon, Apple TV or
- 1:32YouTube. And all of the Final Destination
- 1:34movies are on HBO Max right now. Yeah, written by Jeffrey Reddick
- 1:38who did the story and also wrote on the screenplay and also who
- 1:41helped on the screenplay. We have Glenn Morgan and James
- 1:44Wong, who James Wong also directed this movie and music by
- 1:49Shirley Walker. Special X Makeup by Terry
- 1:51Sonderhoff. All Right starring Devin Sawa as
- 1:54Alex Browning, Ally Water as Queer Rivers, Kerr Smith as
- 1:57Carter Horton, Kristen Quoke as Miss Gluten, Chad Donnella as
- 2:03Ted Wagner, Sean Williams Scott as Billy Hitchcock, Tony Todd as
- 2:07Bloodworth. Ted Wagner.
- 2:09Who's Ted? Todd Wagner, Sorry, it looked a
- 2:11little bit like an E there. Chad Donnella as Todd Wagner TO
- 2:16Single D, Sean Williams Scott is Billy Hitchcock, Tony Todd is
- 2:21Bloodworth and Amanda Detmer as Terry Cheney.
- 2:25Rest in peace, Tony Todd. Yeah, and the Strogan.
- 2:27Still so sad. All right, time for our favorite
- 2:30game on the show, Budget or Buckton.
- 2:34Once again for new listeners here, hi, welcome again.
- 2:37What's up? We play this game.
- 2:39It started kind of just as us having fun reading a little typo
- 2:43in a review or somebody referred to a movie as being very little
- 2:46Bug Ted. We've adopted that into our
- 2:48vernacular. Bug Ted represents a budget of
- 2:54less than $10 million, and budget is 10 million and higher.
- 2:58Yeah. And for this one, based on what
- 3:01I think is a stellar cast, they're not unknowns by any
- 3:05means. And all of the set pieces and
- 3:09the effects and everything that's super involved in this
- 3:13movie because it's a very involved movie.
- 3:14It is. I'm going to say it's budget,
- 3:16OK. I agree with you because I have
- 3:20the answer here. It is budget.
- 3:21It is $23 million for the budget.
- 3:23In fact, OK with an opening box office of $10 million and a
- 3:28worldwide gross of 112 million. All right, so it made its
- 3:31returns. And then some IMDb 6.7.
- 3:35Only 6.7. Only 6.7 wild.
- 3:38Yeah. Well, yeah, I don't know.
- 3:41That's good. I mean, it's good for a horror
- 3:43movie, but I think it deserves more than that, I think.
- 3:45It's good for a movie. Movie on IMDb.
- 3:46Those people are like really fucking picky.
- 3:49It's not Letterbox. At least I think people go
- 3:51really hard on Letterbox with that stuff.
- 3:53I'm afraid of letterbox. I am too, actually.
- 3:57All right, so I have three other movies from 2000 to compare this
- 4:00to. It was a bit of a tricky one for
- 4:02me this time around because I had a hard time picking a theme
- 4:06with anything that would relate to this and I didn't find
- 4:09anything that would relate. I I did 3 movies that have
- 4:12musical artists in the cast all right.
- 4:15So the first one being American Psycho which had Jared Leto in
- 4:19it. I always forget he's in that
- 4:20movie. Yeah, he doesn't have a huge
- 4:22role, but he makes an impression.
- 4:24He's probably in one of the more memorable scenes at least that
- 4:27released April 14th with a $7 million budget, a $34 million
- 4:32gross, and a 7.6 on IMDb movie #2 Leprechaun in the Hood, which
- 4:38released March 28th, 2000 and I believe has iced tea in the cast
- 4:42so. Leprechaun released not on Saint
- 4:48Patrick's Day, where his final destination did.
- 4:52How do you know the day of Saint Patrick's Day?
- 4:55Because it's the same every year and also is my mom's birthday,
- 4:57it's always the 17th, her birthday or Saint Patrick's Day.
- 5:01The Saint Patrick's Day, obviously, it's not like a leap
- 5:06year thing or anything like that.
- 5:09Yeah, Saint Patrick's Day has always been March 17th.
- 5:12That's some bullshit. I didn't know that before.
- 5:14This is news to me. I thought that was one of those
- 5:17like whenever, but that was one of those like moving dates like
- 5:19Thanksgiving, whatever, whatever, Tuesday, Thursday,
- 5:23Wednesday, whatever, it just whatever they they feel.
- 5:26That I like how in your in your mind, Saint Patrick's Day must
- 5:30be on a weeknight. It's a midweek type of holiday.
- 5:34It's It's a holiday that is famously associated with over
- 5:38consuming alcohol, but. That's true.
- 5:40Sure, midweek. OK so that movie had a budget of
- 5:441.4 million. I don't have the gross, but the
- 5:47IMDb was 3.8 I I don't know if it's good or not.
- 5:51I've never I've only watched the first one.
- 5:52Yeah, we. Need to we need to probably
- 5:54check those out a little bit more.
- 5:55OK. And the final movie was Shriek
- 5:57If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th, which has
- 6:00Coolio in it that released October 17th, 2000 with the $5
- 6:04million budget and a four out of 10 on 9DB.
- 6:07All right. All right.
- 6:09What a varied mixture of movies in 2000.
- 6:12Yeah, yeah. It's just it's a very strange
- 6:15year for horror movies, I think. OK, so I've got I've shipped on
- 6:20the dag lines. We're going to go first with the
- 6:22one that's on the poster, which is death doesn't take no for an
- 6:25answer. I like that.
- 6:26I like that one too. That one's good.
- 6:28It also makes it seem like death is a tough negotiator.
- 6:32Yeah, Which if we start looking at death like a lawyer as we go
- 6:35throughout all of these movies, I think that will be a fun spin
- 6:38on it. Yeah, You know, actually, that's
- 6:41a good way to think about it. Like, here are the others most
- 6:45people have dreams for Alex. This is real, which I'm not not
- 6:50big on that one. I don't.
- 6:52I mean, it could be about anything.
- 6:55Face your deepest fears before they face you.
- 6:57Again, it could be about anything.
- 7:00Yeah, death is the final destination.
- 7:02Boarding starts now. That's a good one.
- 7:05That 1 is really good and. Here's the thing, I haven't
- 7:07flown since I was 11 maybe so I forgot that final destination is
- 7:13a flying term until we watch this and that kind of ties it
- 7:17all in together. Where the where the name of.
- 7:20The franchise comes from, Yeah, you know, I hadn't really
- 7:23considered that before. I always just thought of like
- 7:25death as the final destination. Yeah, I was just like, oh, OK,
- 7:28yeah. In the best twisted tradition of
- 7:31the Twilight Zone. I think that's one of those
- 7:35where it's like it goes above the title of the movie, like
- 7:38from the producers of such and such like.
- 7:40I think it's just one of those types of things.
- 7:42So I don't count it as a real as a real tagline.
- 7:46OK, IMDb does not vet these I guess.
- 7:49A film that decapitates Scream 3.
- 7:53I feel like that's mean. Yeah, they they actually scream
- 7:58a little bit for some of the stuff in here, which is part of
- 8:00some of the details later. Also, if Scott William, what's
- 8:05his name? Sean, William.
- 8:06Scott, Sean. William Scott, thank you.
- 8:08I that would be a better tagline if he was in Scream 3 in some
- 8:13way shape or form. Oh.
- 8:15My God, yeah, that's not the situation.
- 8:17That would be yeah, on March 17th.
- 8:20Figure out when it's coming back at them.
- 8:24I don't like that one. Too many, too many unspecified
- 8:28pronouns. It's it's OK.
- 8:30It's not the best intervention comes at a price.
- 8:35OK. Yeah, it's OK.
- 8:37Yeah. OK, no accidents, no
- 8:41coincidences, no escapes. You can't cheat death.
- 8:44That's like slightly different from what you said at the
- 8:46beginning, right? Or is that exactly word for
- 8:48word? It the one I said started with
- 8:51in death, so it's like slightly. This is like straight up a Tony
- 8:54Todd quote. Right.
- 8:55Yeah, yeah. That was blood work all the way,
- 8:56right. That's what obviously I was
- 8:57gonna open this up with with Tony Todd.
- 9:00Yeah, OK. Death doesn't take no for an
- 9:02answer. We already did that 10.
- 9:05That's right. OK.
- 9:07Can you cheat death? I I don't feel like this is on
- 9:11me. You know what, I might be
- 9:14tempting death here, but one of the fun things about this DVD is
- 9:19it has a thing where you can it's a death clock, and you like
- 9:24to take a quiz and it gives you a date for when you're supposed
- 9:28to die. They made an entire movie about
- 9:31that. They did, yeah.
- 9:34And I did mine, and mine happened on our anniversary,
- 9:402020, May 27th. Wow.
- 9:44Yeah, so I should have died on an anniversary five years ago,
- 9:47but I guess I cheated death. It was COVID it.
- 9:50Was COVID? Oh my.
- 9:51God, we would have done that year.
- 9:53Holy shit, you're right. OK, death is coming.
- 9:59OK. I'll see you soon.
- 10:03So I like signed by death. Because it's.
- 10:06Heart. Next stop, it's you.
- 10:09That's not bad. I don't.
- 10:11I think that's more of no, that's better for like a train.
- 10:14Are you ready to match wits with the Grim Reaper?
- 10:17I just feel like there are too many.
- 10:20That's way too many. Yeah, that is a lot that.
- 10:22Stopped being fun very quickly. And it's a normally.
- 10:25I love tag lines. Yeah, well, they didn't really
- 10:29try too much after a certain point, I don't feel.
- 10:32OK. So let's do some fun facts.
- 10:34All right. All right, So Jeffrey Reddick
- 10:37tried. He was he was trying to get his
- 10:40star in TV. He was trying to find an agent.
- 10:43So he decided that he was going to take a he was going to write
- 10:46his own spec script for an X-Files episode.
- 10:49OK. And he ended up writing it.
- 10:50And it was inspired by a real incident where the events
- 10:55actually happened, where this woman called her daughter that
- 10:58was about to go on a plane and told her not to go on the plane.
- 11:02And she didn't. And that plane ended up actually
- 11:06crashing. Yeah, pretty crazy.
- 11:08And then he was wondering, like, what if she was actually meant
- 11:12to die that day? So that's where the idea of the
- 11:15story came from. While writing it, he ended up
- 11:18getting some advice from some of his colleagues saying he should
- 11:21just focus on making a movie out of this instead of doing an
- 11:25X-Files episode. So he decided to turn it into a
- 11:27movie. It would have originally been
- 11:30about adults, however there was a big Scream influence going on
- 11:34at the time, so they decided to shift it to teenagers instead.
- 11:39They were all really excited about it not being a slasher
- 11:43because they really liked the idea of it being death itself
- 11:46and not necessarily like a straight up villain that is on
- 11:50screen. It's just like an
- 11:51all-encompassing thing. So I got a couple of quotes from
- 11:54them here about it. I like that though, as you're
- 11:57pulling that up, I like that because we're not we're, it
- 12:00makes it so much easier to just root for our cast of heroes
- 12:03because there's not, it's not that thing that you and I have
- 12:07run into so often where you kind of.
- 12:10I root for Michael Myers, Yeah. Yeah, it's and it, it kind of
- 12:14changes how like the viewing experience of the movie, I
- 12:16think. Yeah, it really does.
- 12:18So James Wong, who directed this, one thing we're all in
- 12:23agreement in agreement on from the start, is that we didn't
- 12:26want to do a slasher movie. I became very excited when we
- 12:28decided to make the world at large in the service of death,
- 12:32our antagonist. Everyday objects and occurrences
- 12:34then take on ominous proportions, and it becomes less
- 12:37about whether or not our characters are going to die and
- 12:40more about how they will die and how they can delay their deaths.
- 12:44The entertainment is in the ride, not in the outcome.
- 12:47And by placing the premise of the film on the inevitability of
- 12:50death, we play with a certain philosophical no, which I think
- 12:53is definitely one of the biggest strengths of this movie.
- 12:57I'm really glad that they made that choice.
- 12:58Yes, absolutely. However, Jeffrey Reddick now
- 13:02regrets not having death be an on screen present purely for
- 13:06capitalistic reasons. He only wants it for merch.
- 13:10Yeah, it's really hard to do Final Destination merch and I'm
- 13:13very excited to see what you end up coming up as our new cover
- 13:17and. Still haven't decided.
- 13:19Our artwork for this week's episode.
- 13:21Yeah, he. Yeah.
- 13:22So yeah, he said no physical antagonist, so he can't do
- 13:26action figures like he. And he's really bummed that
- 13:28nobody can really do a costume at Halloween for it either,
- 13:31which if you're creative enough, you can definitely do it.
- 13:35Brett and Jeffrey Reddick originally wanted MTV Best Kiss
- 13:39Award winner Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst to be Alex and
- 13:43Queer Rivers. You know what?
- 13:45I can see it. I can see it.
- 13:48I. Can see it too, I just think
- 13:49it's. Really fun and there's a great
- 13:51set up where if Tobey Maguire is in the Alex Browning role, at
- 13:55some point he gets flipped upside down and they kiss that
- 13:57way. Oh, they Yeah, yeah.
- 13:58That absolutely could happen. I'm you know what?
- 14:00I'm here for it. However, I mean how else is he
- 14:03going to get MTV best kiss award if he's not in Spider Man?
- 14:06Which is weird. I don't know if that came before
- 14:09or after this. I think it came out around the
- 14:10same time, no? A year later, 2001, That's
- 14:13right. Devin Sowell actually read the
- 14:14script while he was on a plane, and that caused him to start
- 14:17peeking out and check the engine every few minutes.
- 14:19While he's doing that, he actually wasn't going to get the
- 14:21role. They were very iffy on him, and
- 14:24they had him like, do more reads about it.
- 14:27And then they're like, OK, let's check out his filmography.
- 14:29And the movie that got him the role was Idle Hands.
- 14:32They watched Idle Hands and they're like, fuck yeah, let's
- 14:34get Devin Sowell on there. Love that.
- 14:36Yeah, production designer John Willett came up with the idea to
- 14:40skew sets. So this is something I've never
- 14:42noticed before and I'm going to be paying very close attention
- 14:45next time we rewatch it. But he designed 2 versions of
- 14:48every set. Changes that occur, changes that
- 14:52wouldn't necessarily be noticeable.
- 14:54It's like little color choices. Or he would like try and make
- 14:58things just appear not quite right on the set.
- 15:01OK, so there are two different ones, pre explosion and post
- 15:07explosion. OK yeah, so I guess if like
- 15:10you've had seen any other people or sets like areas beforehand,
- 15:15like, you know, try and check next time you watch and see if
- 15:18you notice any differences. But that applies to clothing
- 15:20too. Like with the before everybody
- 15:23was wearing more like loud colorful outfits but then
- 15:25afterwards everything got muted and bland.
- 15:28Which makes sense if the especially in this one where the
- 15:31whole town is collectively grieving.
- 15:33What happened that that tracks. Yeah, for sure.
- 15:36They did the plane scene on a sound stage.
- 15:39They took two months to build a £45,000 set.
- 15:44They had a three ton hydraulic gimbal on there and they had 89
- 15:49people on it at the same time. So when we're seeing that scene
- 15:53of them on the plane and everything is going wrong, like
- 15:55they're actually like shifting shit around.
- 15:58So there are liars about how many people died in a plane
- 16:00crash? Oh, how they said like 200
- 16:03something, right? Yeah. 287 passengers 2. 187
- 16:07Damn. OK, yeah, I guess they are
- 16:09liars. Liars.
- 16:13And there are a lot of things that were cut as a result of a
- 16:17test screening that they did. And these are all deleted
- 16:20scenes. But so here, here are some of
- 16:23the things that are different. We had a romance scene between
- 16:27Alex and Queer Rivers on the beach before Hitchcock dies.
- 16:32When they're all looking for him, they apparently have sex
- 16:37which leads Clear Rivers to become pregnant and the movie
- 16:42ends with her giving birth to their child.
- 16:45Also Carter survives, he doesn't die.
- 16:48In this version they it ends with them both meeting up at his
- 16:51tombstone. I don't like that.
- 16:53I don't really like it either and actually test audiences
- 16:57hated the fact that Carter died, so that reaction alone made them
- 17:01go back and reshoot the. End is that Alex died?
- 17:04No, you just said Carter. They oh, sorry, no, they don't
- 17:08mind that, Alex said. They didn't want Carter to
- 17:10survive. OK.
- 17:11They wanted Carter to die so they ended up going back and re
- 17:16shooting the whole ending, adding a $2,000,000 more to the
- 17:20budget and they got Carter's stuff that way.
- 17:24And they cut the love scene because apparently it didn't
- 17:26really work. People were checking out around
- 17:28that. And it makes some sense for some
- 17:32things later because at the end of the movie we have Queer going
- 17:35over to Alex and go baby baby. Yeah, she calls in baby a lot,
- 17:38which I then suddenly. I thought it was very much 1
- 17:41sided at that part. I was like that.
- 17:43That's kind of weird that you've already formed this kind of
- 17:45attachment to them. Yeah, apparently that's just
- 17:49like a product of things being cut.
- 17:51OK. I also feel like because they're
- 17:55all seniors and they're getting ready to graduate, so they're
- 17:58already like going through that kind of like cusp into
- 18:00adulthood. And then throwing in this
- 18:03massive event, dealing with the survival survivor's guilt, and
- 18:07then all of the other deaths that are happening afterwards
- 18:10ages them in a different way. And then throwing in an
- 18:13unplanned teen pregnancy and the death of the child's father on
- 18:18top of it just takes a weird tonal shift for it.
- 18:21It does for sure, and I think. It gets used better in the
- 18:23second one. Yeah, that's where the idea
- 18:26came, because they had that idea in the first movie.
- 18:28They said like, the only way to prevent death is new life.
- 18:32So that was like actually a carryover from the first one
- 18:35into the next one. And I think it it works a lot
- 18:37better in the second. One.
- 18:38Yeah, I agree. OK, so that's it for fun.
- 18:41Facts. OK, let's get into our good bad
- 18:44Adobe absurd. Jesse, what'd you like about it?
- 18:46Well, I love the cast. As I mentioned before, I think
- 18:49it's just fantastic. Stellar performances throughout
- 18:53and all of these people have gone on to have really great
- 18:54careers. It's a Hall of Fame cast for us
- 18:57because we have, I mean, Devin Sawa, obviously we have Todd.
- 19:00Todd is a minor character in this but he is like legendary in
- 19:03our house just for Saw 7. Yeah, crazier than Caddesac.
- 19:07It's crazier than a sack of cats.
- 19:10Cats Sacks. Yeah, but like, I think the the
- 19:15cast is great and it it is a scary movie.
- 19:19It toys with you in a way that like they're saying slashers
- 19:23don't because this is absolutely just your imagination getting
- 19:28the best of you. And then it's like somebody dug
- 19:31into there and they're like, oh, what if you were worried about
- 19:34like spilling a soda into your computer and then exploding on
- 19:37you? Like, and your rational mind is
- 19:39like, that doesn't happen. And then you see it happen in
- 19:40the movie and you're like, Oh my God.
- 19:42Yeah. No, that's yeah.
- 19:43Like, and every movie has managed to come up with
- 19:45different scenes like that, and I think that it's really great.
- 19:50And I think that this movie also plays the whole skepticism about
- 19:56the premonition realistically. Yeah, because it's like people
- 20:03aren't buying it, obviously, but they also don't have any hard
- 20:05evidence. To tie Alex to the explosion of
- 20:11Flight 180, they do get some evidence for some other things
- 20:15that have happened, but I think that that honestly makes a lot
- 20:18of sense. And it's kind of funny cuz I'm
- 20:20reading Christine right now and it's a very similar kind of.
- 20:23Same type of thing. Yeah, where it's like, we feel
- 20:26like you're involved, but we can't prove it.
- 20:29And if you don't believe in the supernatural, you're not going
- 20:31to believe in the actual yeah explanation that's there.
- 20:34And I just think, like, there's a reason that this franchise is
- 20:38still having movies come out 25 years later.
- 20:41Yeah, this is one that you can do forever.
- 20:44Yeah, you don't like, I mean it, it just works.
- 20:46So. Well, you never run out of
- 20:48different possibilities. All it takes is people sitting
- 20:51there going, well, what's really fucked up way that you could
- 20:54die? What's a very common fear you
- 20:56have? Yeah, which we'll talk about it
- 20:59later. But like you actually I think
- 21:02inspired one of the the deaths later on may or may not have
- 21:06inspired. I feel like they may have taken
- 21:07your idea. We'll get to that.
- 21:10Yeah, that's. That's a way to down the.
- 21:12Line. Yeah, but no, you're right.
- 21:14I love that that whole part of the series there.
- 21:17I mean, you can't kill death. So like you're Yeah, these
- 21:20movies are like it is. Always.
- 21:22And that's the thing, we all have to face our mortality.
- 21:24It's not necessarily like, oh, we're all gonna wind up being
- 21:27murdered. We just, we all will die at some
- 21:29point. And what if we're doing things
- 21:31that are cheating death? Like, how does that come back on
- 21:34us? So I think it's a really
- 21:35effective premise for a movie, and I'm glad that it turned into
- 21:38a full movie instead of a single X-Files episode.
- 21:42Yeah, which I feel like it would fit there, but it's definitely
- 21:45better for. A movie.
- 21:46But I am, because we know Jeffrey Reddick.
- 21:49Yeah. And I am grateful for him that
- 21:53he got to turn this into a franchise instead of it being
- 21:56something on X-Files. And somebody else is inspired by
- 21:59that, Yeah. And comes up with a very similar
- 22:02movie and then franchise premise.
- 22:04That's right, y'all. We're Jeffrey Reddick's a
- 22:06Kentucky boy. Yes, we've rubbed elbows.
- 22:09We've met. You got anything else?
- 22:10That's, I mean, that's a pretty big no, that's good bundle of
- 22:14it, yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 22:16Yeah, for me, this movie does so much well.
- 22:20Like, I love the small clues that we are given.
- 22:23Like it makes you paranoid in the movie.
- 22:26Like you try and spot random little things like, OK, this is
- 22:30right here is going to be a thing for sure.
- 22:31And I love how it's so good at misdirecting.
- 22:33Like it's good at setting up expectations and then completely
- 22:37going against what you think is going to happen, which is cool.
- 22:41Like it keeps the suspense building and keeps you guessing
- 22:44even though you have an idea of like, you know, something bad's
- 22:47about to happen. But like, it does a really good
- 22:50job of keeping that suspense going.
- 22:52I mean the movie also scared an entire generation of people.
- 22:57It is super fucking effective. Like everybody knows about this
- 23:01movie. Everybody.
- 23:03Although I think the next 1 is probably the most iconic one
- 23:05with the log truck. Absolutely.
- 23:07Yeah, because everybody drives, not everybody flies.
- 23:09I've never flown on a plane before, but this is going to be
- 23:12in the back of my mind whenever I do get on a plane eventually.
- 23:15Yeah, I know. My little sister called me
- 23:16yesterday. I was talking about being so
- 23:18kind of one of those log trucks and went on a whole tangent of
- 23:20where her brain went. Yeah.
- 23:22There was also a cool thing with this movie that they do that
- 23:26hasn't been done in the other movies, but like every single
- 23:29time somebody was about to die, they got glimpses of actual
- 23:32death and reflections of things. And I think that that's really
- 23:38cool. I wish that they had kept that,
- 23:39but that wasn't like a little detail that I hadn't really
- 23:42picked up on before. But like, I like, I mean, it's
- 23:45there. It's just, you know, sometimes
- 23:46when you're just watching these movies casually, you're not
- 23:48noticing every little thing. Like these are like blink in the
- 23:50Ole misses type. Yes, things right here that we
- 23:53will notice because we're taking notes to talk about it on the
- 23:55podcast. Yeah, exactly.
- 23:56But I thought that that was really cool.
- 23:59And obviously the inventive deaths in this movie, like
- 24:02everything is just super original.
- 24:04I love it. OK, OK, now I got ain't bad.
- 24:09Really. Honestly it's just that awkward
- 24:12build up in Alex and Clear's relationship.
- 24:15I I like them being together. I like that being the ending for
- 24:19them even though it's it's giving trauma bond but it wasn't
- 24:25handled super well because of the scenes that were cut and
- 24:29changed. So it just all of a sudden goes
- 24:31from like they know each other and they're bonding over
- 24:35something that seems so impossible to call on each
- 24:37other. Baby, it's.
- 24:39She's calling him baby as he is dying.
- 24:42Yeah. That is so strange.
- 24:44I like, I love you. I don't think we're pet name
- 24:47people. I think if you were dying, I'd
- 24:49be like, why the like? Do you know how hungry Zoe is
- 24:53right now? Yeah, she's fucking losing her
- 24:55mind right now. No, I'm saying that that's what
- 24:57I would. Be saying, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 24:59Yeah. I she also is just actively
- 25:01losing her mind right now because it's 15 minutes till
- 25:03dinner time. Don't worry, when you're dying
- 25:04I'm going to call you. Beep boop.
- 25:07Seriously, my my ass will come back and haunt you if you do
- 25:10that. Good, because then I get to keep
- 25:12you. Yeah.
- 25:15That's like, really the only bad I have too.
- 25:17Like it just. It's jarring.
- 25:19It's a little bit weird. Yeah.
- 25:23I mean, the area was more like me shooting water shooting maybe
- 25:25just like, cut that line. Just cut that one part.
- 25:28So a little snippet of of the movie.
- 25:31Yeah, cuz it, it happens like two or three times.
- 25:34Yeah, and it's it is jarring each time.
- 25:36I'm totally fine with them ending up together embarrassed
- 25:40cuz it's six months later. There's just time for something
- 25:42to develop and they're not worried about dying the entire
- 25:44time. Yeah, yeah, OK, uglies.
- 25:48Uglies I I think everybody's reaction to their grief, it's,
- 25:55it's ugly in a way that it feels very real because we got some
- 25:58people lashing out. Some people are just kind of
- 26:00like numb, you know, you've got Todd and George's dad is not
- 26:06wanting Todd and Alex to keep being friends.
- 26:09It's just, it's, it's ugly in the way that it feels real and
- 26:15grief is a very ugly raw monster.
- 26:18That's the same thing that I had to.
- 26:20It's just how everybody treats Alex specifically afterwards.
- 26:23Everybody calls him a freak and he didn't do anything wrong.
- 26:26He just like he saved people's lives, you know, and people are
- 26:30treating him so poorly. It is suspicious and honestly,
- 26:34Can you imagine if there had been a delay in this movie, if
- 26:37it had come out? Yeah, a year later.
- 26:40Yeah, a year. Yeah.
- 26:42But like if, if, like, and you could totally understand that
- 26:47reaction now, if somebody had had that moment, then you'd
- 26:50understand all of the suspicion. But I, I don't know how much
- 26:53that was in people like the idea of terroristic tampering with a
- 26:59plane. I don't know how much that was
- 27:00really on the forethought of people's.
- 27:02I don't know. Yeah, I really don't know.
- 27:05But I, I just, I don't think that he would make a big scene
- 27:09about it if you were responsible for it, you know, I don't know.
- 27:14Unless he got unless it like I'm just thinking like a movie FBI
- 27:18guy here. Unless his guilty conscience got
- 27:21the best of him at the last second.
- 27:23Could. I don't know.
- 27:24Or he was like a Patsy and he was supposed to be on the plane
- 27:29and make sure everything happened and he freaked out and
- 27:31backed off. Like backed out last night.
- 27:33Like, there we go. I can come up with like a
- 27:35plausible reason to be suspicious.
- 27:37OK all. Right, fair enough.
- 27:41Yeah, OK, that pretty much explains him specifically for
- 27:44me, though. Todd's dad just fucked that guy.
- 27:47He blamed him for his suicides like you did this.
- 27:50That was a that's a rough thing to say to another teenager and.
- 27:56Have you even seen that face by his brother?
- 27:59So maybe Todd was a favorite. He was totally TO single D.
- 28:03Where George was the favorite and they were pissed Todd was
- 28:06the one that got off the plane. They could be yeah, that that's
- 28:11his punishment. You can't hang out with people
- 28:12anymore because you fucking. Survived.
- 28:14Yeah. Do you know who your brother is?
- 28:16Do you know that he's going to go kiss someone on an elevator
- 28:19as it's crashing to its its landing?
- 28:22But he won't die in that. But you're going to let him die
- 28:24on an airplane? Yeah, Yeah.
- 28:26Huh. Huh.
- 28:27OK. I'm sorry.
- 28:29Oh man, fucking Billy being knocked off his bike every
- 28:34chance he gets. Dick.
- 28:37We say that so many times. So many times, yeah, it, it, it
- 28:41just, it happens consistently to him.
- 28:43And then even after he got his license and it was confirmed he
- 28:46got his license, he was still riding his bike around because
- 28:48Alex wouldn't tell him if he was going to get into a car wreck or
- 28:51not. I love Shawn Williams Scott, and
- 28:54I love it when he plays a doofus because he does it so well.
- 28:57Yeah, this is before. Well, it was after American Pie,
- 29:00but I'm glad that he was not typecast right away.
- 29:03And even an American Pie that kind of started leaning into him
- 29:06being a doofus, cuz they were like, man, Sean William Scott's
- 29:09really good at this. Yeah.
- 29:11OK, I got a lot of asserts here. So First off, I think it's
- 29:15really strange that death never takes the opportunity to wipe
- 29:17them all out together. Like they all died pretty much
- 29:20together at the same time. And there are so many scenes of
- 29:22them in a car together or like at the coffee shop or whatever
- 29:26where the bus hits. That's a.
- 29:27Really good point. Yeah, it's just like, why?
- 29:30Like death is like, I don't understand.
- 29:33Like it's it's got its own. I think Death might actually be
- 29:36really mad at Alex. It could be Death is a petty
- 29:39bitch just. Wants him to suffer after that
- 29:42TO single D Todd doesn't want to discuss the women with his poop
- 29:46smell, so instead he tells him that he's got some bladder shit
- 29:50going on. I noticed that too.
- 29:52I was like, OK, you don't want to shit in front of them, but
- 29:55you're going to be like, hey baby, how how about them Utis?
- 29:59Am I right? He's.
- 30:00Like I got some wrong, my bladder, some kind of infection.
- 30:03Like, yeah, so. What's up?
- 30:05It's just. Like not peeing after sex, which
- 30:08I totally do a lot of, right? Yeah, right.
- 30:11Must. Have been from on that 6.
- 30:15Alex heading over to Miss Gluten's house and grabbing the
- 30:18knife after all of that shit. He couldn't have framed himself
- 30:23better if he tried like that. I think that's why death is
- 30:26taking its time because they're like this dude is going to
- 30:28implicate himself anyway. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:31And while we're at Miss Luton's, the fact that when she is making
- 30:35a drink, she's just drinking boiling water.
- 30:38There's no tea in there, There's no coffee, there's nothing.
- 30:42I think she was going to put a tea bag into the boiling water
- 30:45once it was poured into her mug. Perhaps.
- 30:48And then she decided she needed something stronger, so she
- 30:51dumped it out, put in the ice and the vodka instead.
- 30:54And that's what caused the mug to crack, because it was a
- 30:56sudden temperature change. OK, I knew that that's why that
- 30:58happened, but I just thought it was strange I didn't make that.
- 31:03Because some people when they do tea, they'll like, put the
- 31:06leaves in the teapot and steep it that way.
- 31:08But I'm a single tea bag person myself, so it's a similar
- 31:14situation. I would just boil some hot
- 31:16water, pour it into it and then add the yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:20OK. Well, after all that, what do
- 31:22you rate this? 09.75.
- 31:25Oh, and not even a ten. Wow, OK.
- 31:27I here's the thing. I am trying to view it as its
- 31:33own separate movie, but I keep thinking about the other one.
- 31:35So we got coming down the line. I'm like some of those.
- 31:37I feel like I would get a 10 really.
- 31:39Well this might be a franchise where I hand out several 10s cuz
- 31:43this is such a good one, but I'm giving this one A10.
- 31:45This movie is so fucking. Good.
- 31:46Maybe. And maybe you can talk me into
- 31:47it by the end of this, OK, It's not, it's not final yet.
- 31:50It's not the final destination. Yeah.
- 31:52So we got a starting average of 9.875.
- 31:54OK, cool. All right, so let's get into it.
- 31:57All right, so we start off with ominous packing opening credits.
- 32:03Yeah, it's like opening shots of fans and spooky faces.
- 32:07There's a book about France. I guess that's his textbook for
- 32:11school. Going yeah, they're in a French
- 32:14class. But it's right next to a book,
- 32:16Death of the Salesman. Yeah, which is we get a little
- 32:20premonition around the gate right there.
- 32:22So Todd and George's dad is going to be picking Alex up.
- 32:25Alex is who Alex is superstitious.
- 32:27He's using his dad's luggage and he wants to keep the luggage tag
- 32:30on it. And then his mom's like, no,
- 32:31that's dumb. I don't like indulge the kid.
- 32:35Yeah, come on, He's in high school.
- 32:36He's about to go to France. Let him have some fun.
- 32:38Yeah, and they they're doing a 10 day trip to Paris.
- 32:43It's their senior trip senior French class.
- 32:46How rich is this school? It's a. 10 days in Paris.
- 32:50Yeah, that's insane. For a bunch of teenagers and for
- 32:53faculty. Yeah, it's it's pretty bougie
- 32:56right there. That's pretty awesome.
- 32:58That's. Wild like how many grown adults
- 33:01could just afford 10 days in Paris?
- 33:05I don't know, but they're also going to have to like buy some
- 33:08like on the spot plane tickets later and they're totally OK
- 33:11with that price because I know that shit's going to be
- 33:13expensive. Yeah, we see his clock flicker
- 33:16at one point from 1:00 to 180, which we know now.
- 33:21Power of hindsight. 180 is the magic number in like a bad way.
- 33:25Throughout the entire series. So we get to the airport, we get
- 33:29our first Carter, you Dick Carter pushing past Billy.
- 33:32There is a person we're like doing some religious
- 33:36solicitation to Alex and Miss Luton blocks him.
- 33:41And she's like, leave my students alone.
- 33:44So she didn't always hate Alex. Right over the Pennsylvania.
- 33:46They're also like, no soliciting.
- 33:48Yeah, he's like death is not the end.
- 33:50So the woman at the boarding gate makes a weird joke cuz
- 33:55she's like same and he was like what?
- 33:59And she goes 925 your birthday? That's your departure time.
- 34:02I wouldn't have made that connection.
- 34:04It's awkward. It is awkward.
- 34:05What? That's weird.
- 34:06The reason she said that, though, is because their their
- 34:10time, like Alex looked at the board and it started like
- 34:12flickering around. Their departure time switched to
- 34:16810, which 180 different time. Yeah.
- 34:20And then that's what made him think like something is wrong
- 34:23here. OK, then Todd convinces Alex to
- 34:27take a Bubby dump. Yeah.
- 34:29One of the funny things about this is like a they were going
- 34:32over to the test screening stuff and apparently, like, they're
- 34:35like asking what was your favorite part of the movie?
- 34:37And somebody said the shitting. And apparently, like, they're
- 34:40like, yeah, there's a lot of shitting in this movie.
- 34:41Todd shits so much in this movie.
- 34:43Listen, Todd has a high fiber diet.
- 34:46He doesn't have a bladder infection.
- 34:47There's something wrong with that butt.
- 34:49Like, bad. OK, so yeah, they're like in the
- 34:54stall together, and while they're pooping they hear some
- 34:57John Denver. And Alex knows his music
- 35:00history. He said he died in a plane
- 35:01crash. And it's not a lot of people, us
- 35:08included, Associate Dust in the Wind by Kansas.
- 35:12It was like the Final Destination song, but this one.
- 35:16It's Rocky Mountain High by John Denver.
- 35:18And there there's a lyric which they have right there.
- 35:21It's seen it rain, fire in the sky.
- 35:23So yeah, another whole thing. So they get on the plane and
- 35:28they make a dark joke about how there's babies and adults with
- 35:32high support needs on the airplane and I take a real
- 35:35fucked up God to take him down. I took this as Todd's brother,
- 35:39basically agonon death. He's like this guy.
- 35:41He's he. He won't do it.
- 35:42OK. Fucking do it bro his.
- 35:44Name is. George, George.
- 35:45Whatever, man. Don't Mario's brother him.
- 35:48He deserves it. He needs, OK, he needs that
- 35:51treatment himself, because in his own household, Todd is
- 35:53probably called George's brother.
- 35:56That's what his dad calls. He started going by Todd with 1D
- 35:59as like a way to feel special at school.
- 36:01Yeah, it's like a rebellious space right there, Yeah.
- 36:05They get on, they're sitting down and Blake and Krista are
- 36:08trying to do a seat swap with Todd, and he refuses.
- 36:12So they go to Alex and I was like, yeah, that's fine.
- 36:15And when he gets up there, his tray breaks.
- 36:17That's karma for not being a wing man.
- 36:20But also you were cool and let the girls sit together so.
- 36:23I love this whole thing of like, Ty's like man, you fucked it up.
- 36:25Now I got to sit here and watch Stuart Little.
- 36:29That movie was good back in the day.
- 36:32When you're 1718. Probably not, I don't know.
- 36:36As things are going, take off starts and it's a bumpy start
- 36:39but everything palms it smooths over and then immediately goes
- 36:44to worse. Yeah, it's like bumpy and
- 36:47everybody's a little bit nervous and they're like, oh, ha, ha,
- 36:49yeah, yeah. And then it starts getting
- 36:51really bad. The masks are deployed, lights
- 36:55are flickering. I love the shot of Hitchcock's
- 36:58Whoppers on the ground because that dude was stuff in his face
- 37:00with Whoppers call. Him, Billy.
- 37:03I Billy. OK.
- 37:04Yeah, Billy. His name is Billy, why are you
- 37:06last naming him? I don't know.
- 37:08Hitchcock's cool. You're being a Dick.
- 37:11A Curry Dick. OK, yeah, shit goes bad.
- 37:14Yeah, and like you said, like just the whoppers are nice, a
- 37:17little touch of showing how like.
- 37:18It's all and you're moving back and forth.
- 37:20Yeah. And man, a lot happens, but
- 37:24essentially, like pieces of the plane are tearing off and it's
- 37:28pulling seats out. There's a fire that's happening.
- 37:33Everybody dies. Yeah.
- 37:36And then Alex is back in a seat. He's back in the back row with
- 37:42Blake and Krista, asking to swap seats.
- 37:44And he does it without saying anything.
- 37:45He just looks sweaty and weird. And they're going, oh, that's
- 37:47weird. And he gets up there.
- 37:49His seat's broken. Todd doesn't understand why he's
- 37:51upset. And then he starts saying, like,
- 37:52hey, this plane's going to go down.
- 37:54We've got to get everybody off the plane.
- 37:56They're like, Sir, you don't joke about that.
- 38:00Yeah, so Carter gets really rationally upset about the whole
- 38:04thing and decides to start fighting him about.
- 38:06It. And this causes the pilot to
- 38:08kick them off and anybody else that's in their vicinity, which
- 38:12happens to be Billy, it includes Billy.
- 38:14Who's just like, was caught in the wrong place because he's
- 38:17trying to get his bag put up. Yeah, George tells Todd to go
- 38:21check on him, so he gets off the plane too.
- 38:23And I have. A question about George and
- 38:25Todd. Yeah, because this is a senior
- 38:27trip. I was wondering the same thing.
- 38:29If you're thinking I guess he's supposed to be an older brother
- 38:31right? You would think.
- 38:32I always got that impression. Held back.
- 38:35Was he held back? But then why is he still the
- 38:37golden sun? I know we made that decision
- 38:40ourselves, but. Because obviously, Jesse, it was
- 38:43Todd's fault. Yeah.
- 38:45George would have succeeded if it weren't for that pesky Todd,
- 38:48George's brother. Yeah, George's brother kind of
- 38:51ruined everything. Or maybe George's brother is
- 38:53smarter than George and he skipped a headache grade to try
- 38:56and like get George's parents attention.
- 38:58Yeah, this is George's poise. Like, you know what?
- 39:01I'm gonna get tied out of the picture for sure this time.
- 39:04Go check on him. Oh and also Queer gets off
- 39:07because she's getting some bad vibes.
- 39:08Too. Yeah, she had one of those
- 39:10moments where you just listen to your gut.
- 39:12And she was right. Yeah.
- 39:13So once they're off, the pilot is like, yeah, you guys can't
- 39:17come on and Miss Gluten's like we got to have at least one
- 39:20teacher on there. Both of the teachers were kicked
- 39:22off. But here's The thing is that we
- 39:23hear later on the news that there are 4 Yes.
- 39:30Yeah, I don't really. I don't know.
- 39:32Yeah, there's some inconsistencies here.
- 39:34Yeah, that was just, it's a little and it's one of those
- 39:37things I never noticed before until I was taking notes and I
- 39:39was like. That right there, yeah, I had
- 39:42noticed until you just mentioned that.
- 39:43So they did let Mr. Murno back on and they were going to follow
- 39:48on a later flight, like you said, just casually able to drop
- 39:52several thousands, assuming no issues with the parents on that.
- 39:57Actually, I'm kind of shocked that they would be allowed to
- 39:59get on a later plane at all. I know, yeah, whatever.
- 40:03Maybe they'll sort it out, but not really because Carter and
- 40:08Alex are fighting again. And then he says a real Dick
- 40:12hole thing to say, but also very in keeping with a 17 year old.
- 40:17He's like, I wish you were on that plane, and then you know
- 40:19what happens. Kaboom, it's bad.
- 40:22Big time. So the group is just sitting
- 40:24there in a stunned silence. Everybody is kind of giving Alex
- 40:28a side eye. Staring at him.
- 40:29And then we get FBI agents Wean and Shrek and I gotta ask people
- 40:33questions. They do not believe Alex, which
- 40:37is true. Like if I was sitting there I
- 40:39would think Alex was pretty suss.
- 40:42Yeah, I guess maybe I wouldn't. If I were the other people there
- 40:44I'd be like thanks bro, like you saved my life.
- 40:47No, they're all they have taken their survival survivors guilt
- 40:52and pinned it all on Alex. Yeah, Oh yeah.
- 40:55Everybody, all the family comes to pick everybody up and except
- 40:58for Claire. Claire doesn't have anybody.
- 41:00It's. So sad.
- 41:01I've got a question about her too.
- 41:03OK, so we later see she's at her house.
- 41:06She has no family, how the fuck does she keep that house
- 41:11running? I think it's her mom and stepdad
- 41:15mostly just ignore her and live their lives as though she's not
- 41:19there. I don't think she's really
- 41:20keeping the house running. I think she's just like doing
- 41:22her own thing and being out of the stepdad's way.
- 41:25OK, I thought that they just fucked off and completely left
- 41:28her. No, the the hunting cabin, his
- 41:31dad, her dad's cabin in the woods.
- 41:33I'm assuming that's more of a situation where she is going
- 41:35there and like just, you know, doing casual maintenance with
- 41:38it. Yeah, OK.
- 41:39She probably, you know, had spent enough time there with him
- 41:42growing up that she knew the basic things that needed to be
- 41:45done. OK, that makes sense.
- 41:47Gotcha. Alex's parents are kind enough
- 41:48to drop clear off. Yeah, yeah, that was nice.
- 41:51Alex is watching the news, and here's that all 287 passengers
- 41:55are presumed dead. The the details about the
- 41:59premonition are not known. They're just kind of like there
- 42:02was a commotion, a fight happened.
- 42:04Some students go off the plane. Yeah, and they're keeping tied
- 42:08with about everything. So 39 days later, we're at the
- 42:11funeral. They planned it I.
- 42:13Don't think it's a funeral, I think it's a memorial.
- 42:15Oh, Memorial. Yeah, you're right.
- 42:16OK, I'm I'm so used to these movies having funerals in them.
- 42:19Yes, this is more of like a memorial that the school was
- 42:22doing because it's, you know, big community tragedy.
- 42:24They wanted to honor the people they lost. 39 days for 39
- 42:27students. Yeah, they yeah, OK.
- 42:30And Carter and Alex, they get into another argument.
- 42:35Yeah, like Carter was kind of picking the fight with him, I
- 42:38feel like. Yeah, he does it every single
- 42:40time. Like Alex is not asking for this
- 42:41shit. Carter's just a fucking Dick.
- 42:43And then Billy comes up and he's like, hey, am I supposed to die
- 42:46young? And Alex is just like, Billy,
- 42:49you're stupid. And then he tries to go talk to
- 42:51Miss Luton, who's like, get away from me.
- 42:53You scare the hell out of me. She's like, you're graduating.
- 42:56We're out of each other's lives. I don't want anything to do with
- 42:58you. Still pretty cold, man.
- 43:00It is pretty cold that she flipped that switch immediately.
- 43:04Yeah, she did. Todd goes up next to him too,
- 43:07and he's like, hey man, sorry, my daddy's kind of.
- 43:09Hey, sorry Georges Dad. So we can play together.
- 43:15Yeah, yeah, this right here. I feel so bad for both of them.
- 43:19I know it's just, it's really sad all around and I feel sad
- 43:23for George's dad also like his parents.
- 43:27And I mean that George Todd is dealing with a lot of guilt with
- 43:30it all too. And in all seriousness, their
- 43:34family is in a real crisis mode and it's got to be awful.
- 43:39And his parents probably aren't handling it super well, but
- 43:42they're just, they're in those immediate throes of grief where
- 43:46you don't always do rational things.
- 43:48Yeah, but they decide like, hey, once all this shit was over,
- 43:52we'll go into town, catch the Yankees, we'll go to some
- 43:55baseball. Does that change your opinion of
- 43:58Todd as a character? Yeah, don't like them, OK.
- 44:07That night, Todd is in the bathroom, and you know what?
- 44:10Got to take a poop. He had, but first he was
- 44:13tempting fate anyway because he was dry shaving his face.
- 44:17He was, well, he's a Wahlberg situation going on here.
- 44:22Yeah, except at least Donnie had.
- 44:24The electric one. Yeah, you don't have as much of
- 44:27an issue with like nicking yourself or causing ingrown
- 44:30hairs with an electric. One that's true.
- 44:32Yeah, you're right. Yep.
- 44:34Well, he's taking a poop and we see death to let his plan unfold
- 44:38here. Yeah, I appreciate that the
- 44:40toilet is taking a part in his death because it's so important
- 44:44to who Gorgeous Brother is as a person.
- 44:47Yeah. Alex, meanwhile, in his own
- 44:51room, is being spooked by an owl who, just, like, is peeping in
- 44:56on him. That's a pretty owl.
- 44:58Dude that was that owl was sent by death.
- 45:01That owl was like hoot hoot. And his reaction is to take this
- 45:06like he's got like a, he keeps going back and forth between a
- 45:09Hustler magazine and like, the thing about like the newspaper
- 45:13quipping about the death. Sad horny, sad horny.
- 45:16Which one am I? And then he throws the magazine
- 45:19at the Owl and he must have an industrial fucking fan because
- 45:24it rips that magazine up in a way I've never seen a box or
- 45:29oscillating household fan do. Yeah, that should.
- 45:32That was going to kill him eventually.
- 45:34Yes, if if we hadn't seen the magazine get ripped up like
- 45:37that, it's a sure thing that his face would have gotten ripped up
- 45:40by that. But it tears up the clip of it
- 45:43was saying today and it switched to Todd.
- 45:46Is that the whole reason it's got his name is Todd?
- 45:49TO single D code. Yep, that's it's got to be the
- 45:52only reason. That way they can throw that
- 45:54little, that little wink and a nod in there.
- 45:57Yeah, it's, it's got to be something like that.
- 45:59So we now see over. That would have been if he was A
- 46:03to double D and then Alex got this little slip that just said
- 46:07Ted. That could have been one of more
- 46:10of those like am I getting? Ambiguous.
- 46:14It didn't spell his name. Right.
- 46:15Yeah, You know, you're right. Yeah.
- 46:17Which is kind of on par for a while.
- 46:18This stuff happens in this series.
- 46:20There was something on Reddit, I forget, somebody was trying to
- 46:23come up with what Todd was short for, and it was just a really
- 46:27funny list of possible names. Todd is just Todd.
- 46:30Why can't names be short? Because what sociopath names
- 46:36their least favorite son? 3 letters that don't form a real
- 46:41name. This family was like somebody
- 46:43said you can't make a name shorter than Todd and that
- 46:45family said you want to bet they like remove the D they shaved
- 46:49off AD and. They wanted him to have half as
- 46:51many letters in his name as his brother George.
- 46:54Oh my God. They thought you were half as
- 46:57good as your brother, and you won't forget it.
- 47:00You'll show us that you deserve the other D Back at the Todd's
- 47:05poop chamber, he we see the toilet is leaking water Yeah,
- 47:10the faucet and it's starting to move towards it's.
- 47:13Not the faucet. It's like the water line
- 47:15connecting. But there's like a little like
- 47:16spigot thing over there. It's not a.
- 47:18Faucet. Whatever.
- 47:19You fucking know what I'm talking about, Homeowner.
- 47:22Terribly. I'm not.
- 47:23I'm not great at it either way. Water is coming from the toilet,
- 47:28moving towards Todd. He starts to get in the shower
- 47:32but there is a clothesline hanging up in there which both
- 47:36move because the bathroom is a damp place and I would not feel
- 47:40like my clothes could ever get fully dry hanging in the
- 47:42bathroom. But that's what's they've got
- 47:44going on so he starts to take down the clothesline.
- 47:47He has stepped into the tub and he slips a bottle of soap falls
- 47:54in and it's open so he can't get any traction on it.
- 47:57They don't have the little no slip daisies get no slip daisies
- 48:02get a bath mat gets something. It helps.
- 48:05It's a it's honestly, it's a big deal.
- 48:07It is. I I mean, I've been labeled a
- 48:11false risk in my life and we keep we keep non slip stuff in
- 48:15our bathtub because of it. But yeah, so anyway, he is like,
- 48:20he can't stand up. And the laundry line has wrapped
- 48:23around his throat very tightly because it's like, like a steel
- 48:28line and he can't get it off. And he's trying to reach for his
- 48:33nose hair scissors, which I don't think are going to be
- 48:35strong enough for that line anyway.
- 48:37And his this is really good effects work.
- 48:40His eyes are turning red. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:42And he just dies, and we see the water retreat back into the
- 48:48little. Only time we see something.
- 48:50Like the toilet spigot? Yeah, the only time we see death
- 48:53trying to like, clear it. Clean.
- 48:54Up its tracks. Yeah.
- 48:56Well, it's yeah. Never done again.
- 48:58Weird, but I kind of like it. Alex gets to Todd's and he sees
- 49:01the corner outside and Clear is also there.
- 49:04Yeah, she's just hiding behind a tree.
- 49:06Well, she warns him she's like you need to get lost.
- 49:08And George's dad comes out and blames Alex for George's death
- 49:13and George's brother's death. He's like, you fucking gave him
- 49:16so much grief that he had to kill himself, and he's like,
- 49:19God, that doesn't make any fucking sense on so many levels.
- 49:22But he was talking about going to see the Yankees.
- 49:25That didn't make any sense. Alex goes to visit Clear
- 49:28sometime later and he's like, why were you there?
- 49:33And she points out that the FBI, who are outside of George and
- 49:37Todd's house, are typically not involved in a teenager's
- 49:40suicide. And she reckons that the cause
- 49:44for the plane crash hasn't yet been determined.
- 49:46And she is just a she's, she realizes that bigger things are
- 49:51moving on here. And she has had the same
- 49:54feelings as him. She hasn't seen things the way
- 49:56he saw him, but she's felt them. And when he was freaking out,
- 50:00she trusted him because she knew those feelings.
- 50:03Yeah. So like, what are they saying
- 50:04that she has kind of the same gift but it's just not to the
- 50:07same extent? Yeah, like she's more in touch
- 50:11with that kind of OK power. Clairvoyant, whatever.
- 50:16Clairvoyant. Clairvoyant.
- 50:18And he he says that he feels Todd or he feels dead, which
- 50:24Todd is dead now. So it could be Todd, It could be
- 50:27George's brother. Also, I'm sorry, can we speak
- 50:30about like when he shows up there and he sees what she's
- 50:33making and he's like, what is it?
- 50:34It's like, this is you. It's just like a fucking BLOB of
- 50:37a medal. It's like, I mean, this is what
- 50:38you make me feel. Yeah, it's a it's.
- 50:42She's like, she's giving him hints like you make me feel.
- 50:45Yeah. So here's some medal that
- 50:47expresses my feel. Yeah, the head is on the spring.
- 50:50Hello. Yeah, she also gave him a rose
- 50:53at the memorial. Yeah, thanked him for saving her
- 50:55life. So they decide they're going to
- 50:58break into the Funeral Home and they see him and he's dead.
- 51:02Except then he twitches and then Bloodworth appears.
- 51:05He's like, oh, that just happens, that's the thing.
- 51:08And then he just continues to speak in riddles.
- 51:12This feels like it would be a very frustrating cutscene in a
- 51:14video game. Yeah.
- 51:15Where you're like, I don't know what to do with this
- 51:18information. OTO Double D over here.
- 51:23Tony Todd. OK thank you.
- 51:25I was like wait wait OK I'm sorry that I made you have to
- 51:29explain the jokes. That's OK cuz I know that
- 51:31sometimes takes a fun job, but maybe people listening will
- 51:33appreciate that you I'm. Sure they did.
- 51:34Yeah, that's OK, all right. And yeah, he says the opening
- 51:38line that you said before. In death, there are no
- 51:40accidents, coincidences, no mistakes.
- 51:42Yes. So basically they cheated death
- 51:46out of its death count and it's not happy about it.
- 51:51So Alex tells Clear that they need to be open to signs and she
- 51:58I wrote the note she would hate the Long Island Medium because
- 52:00she was like, you can turn everything into a sign if you
- 52:03try to. That is so true.
- 52:05And I love that. Like I would love to see her in
- 52:07the audience at one of those shows and feel like, no, listen,
- 52:11what you did was just a cold read on this person.
- 52:13I'm I think we talked about this quite a bit on late night with
- 52:16the devil. It's a similar kind of thing.
- 52:19She was like, you could drive yourself crazy looking for those
- 52:21types of signs. And then I wish Alex had been
- 52:24like, no, you don't understand. A piece of and magazine with the
- 52:28name Todd just flew at me after an owl jump scared me.
- 52:32Yeah, I mean, he's got a point. Here, Yeah.
- 52:35I I That's a pretty crazy coincidence right there.
- 52:37But he said Death was cheated and they could still be on
- 52:40Death's list. So they just need to keep an eye
- 52:41out. And by keeping an eye out, we
- 52:44need to watch by watch Carter driving by almost hitting Billy
- 52:48on his bike. And then.
- 52:51Right before that, he also saw a vision of a bus in the
- 52:54reflection of the window and they turned around and there's
- 52:56no bus there. So they they cut it.
- 53:00Carter cuts a dangerous UE almost his Billy on his bike,
- 53:03and then he starts up fighting with Alex.
- 53:05Miss Luton is also there because apparently this is the smallest
- 53:08fucking town on in New York. Yeah, in New York.
- 53:12And he's like, oh, look at this. Look at this reunion.
- 53:15Miss Luton's got to move out of the town she's lived in her
- 53:17whole life because of you, Alex. And Alex is like, oh, you mean
- 53:20the fact that she's still alive? You're welcome.
- 53:24And Terry Carter's girlfriend is so over this.
- 53:28He's like, she's like, listen, if you're just going to fight
- 53:31with him every time you see him for the rest of our lives, I
- 53:33went out. As far as I'm concerned, you can
- 53:35drop dead. And then she gets Regina
- 53:38Georged, except she doesn't survive.
- 53:40I OK many moments in this movie traumatized me as a child.
- 53:44That was one of them. I walked in there with my dad
- 53:46watching this and I saw that scene in that fucking shock.
- 53:48I thought it was the railroad scene.
- 53:50OK. He watched it many times.
- 53:54I think it was on the DIRECTV thing, so it would constantly
- 53:58play, so he would TuneIn every now and then.
- 54:00So that was the first one that got me.
- 54:01But I think that I saw the Billy one first.
- 54:04That was one of the defining moments of me becoming a horror
- 54:08fan right there. Alex is refusing to talk to
- 54:13Clear. She's called multiple times.
- 54:15I think that Alex's dog kind of ships them and he's wishing that
- 54:19Alex would answer the phone, but that's not what's happening.
- 54:22He's also, I think he's doing a bad job of covering the phone.
- 54:26He's like, let me check, Alex. Like this fucking girl is
- 54:30calling again. Do you want to talk to her?
- 54:31No, no. OK.
- 54:33Hey, he's in the shower. Because he wants them to be
- 54:39together. He wants and he's like clear,
- 54:41clear roll call him on his. She's like, man, she is coming
- 54:43on strong. He sees a news report talking
- 54:47about their suspected reasoning of the cause of the explosion.
- 54:52Basically there was like a line that burst into flames and
- 54:56caused like a series of micro explosions and he realized that
- 54:59it matched the the seating where they were.
- 55:01So he pulls out the flight manifest and starts making like
- 55:04little notes that match the line of the explosion.
- 55:07And he realizes that it's happening in the order that they
- 55:10would have died on the plane. Which means he realizes that
- 55:13Miss Luton is next. Miss Luton is having a hell of a
- 55:18time. She Everywhere she goes she is
- 55:21reminded of everybody she knows and has taught she's.
- 55:25Definitely the most stricken of the entire people here, which
- 55:28I'm glad that they showed that perspective of a character.
- 55:31Yes, because it and it's not that kids aren't feeling grief,
- 55:37they're just experiencing it in a different way because they
- 55:39have different life experiences by that point.
- 55:42And I think it is like a true testament to the writing of this
- 55:45that Miss Luton is having this reaction to it compared to all
- 55:48of the like, everybody's reactions in this movie feel so
- 55:52real. Yeah, they did a really good job
- 55:53of capturing everything and making it feel grounded.
- 55:56Yeah, despite everything that's happening in this movie.
- 55:59Yeah. She's talking on the phone with
- 56:00somebody, and she's like, she's feeling really bad about sending
- 56:03the other teacher on. And then she looks outside her
- 56:05window and she sees Alex just out there just kind of creeping
- 56:08in her front yard. She's like, I got to call you
- 56:10back. She calls, she calls the FBI
- 56:14agents and they pull up and they see him and he's checking her
- 56:16tires is not what it looks like it.
- 56:19Looks so suspicious and he's like, I'm just checking the
- 56:22tires but man, it looks like you're trying to sabotage you,
- 56:25like playing a bomb or something.
- 56:26He does, so they take him in for questioning, naturally, and Miss
- 56:31Luton, meanwhile, decides she's going to put on a kettle.
- 56:34As she's like, doing stuff, she tosses A rag onto a knife block.
- 56:37Don't do shit like that. Not as big basic home safety one
- 56:41O 1. You don't do that the same way
- 56:43that you wouldn't put like a pan on the stove with the handle
- 56:45facing out. Now I understand that you have
- 56:47done that. You will do that.
- 56:48You probably are going to continue to.
- 56:50Do all of these things. And I always try and correct you
- 56:53when I see it. If if death comes for you and
- 56:57I'm not home, it's I did my best.
- 57:00But there is one thing that I'm very good at, the hot and the
- 57:03cold. She did not know that one.
- 57:05I know that one I. Don't You've witnessed A Pyrex
- 57:08dish explode in front of your eyes.
- 57:10We almost got Final Destination that night.
- 57:12A fucking thing of macaroni got turned into a fucking grenade.
- 57:16Yeah. Shrapnel just went flying
- 57:18everywhere. We're at somebody's house.
- 57:21Glass and cheese and noodles and blood just it was a disaster,
- 57:25so. Nice cracks and then she sets
- 57:30the we haven't. Gone to that part yet?
- 57:32Oh, no. OK.
- 57:33It's starting to pour her tea, but she.
- 57:37She gets scared of her mug. Yeah, because it's, it's their
- 57:41high school. And she tosses the water out and
- 57:44she goes, well, that's stupid. And then she goes, you know
- 57:46what? I'm an adult.
- 57:47And she puts some vodka in it. But the rapid temperature change
- 57:51cracks the mug, and she is going around looking through her
- 57:55house. She finds the John Denver album
- 57:57as her mom's favorite, so she puts it on.
- 58:00She is standing over her computer.
- 58:02Just which, even if the mug wasn't leaking, I wouldn't be
- 58:05holding. No, not with any liquid over my
- 58:07computer. Yeah, obviously it drips inside
- 58:10the computer, goes all into the circuits and starts shorting
- 58:13everything and we get a fire started.
- 58:15Yep, it it explodes. A piece of glass goes into her
- 58:19throat and cuts her. She's not handling that well,
- 58:23because who would? And so she crawls into the
- 58:26kitchen and she reaches up to grab the grab the rag.
- 58:31And This is why it's a bad idea, also a bad idea to have your
- 58:34knife block that close to the edge of the counter.
- 58:37And so she pulls it. Knife falls right into her
- 58:39tummy. At this point, Alex has managed
- 58:41to already get through all of his questioning with the FBI,
- 58:44but I guess they realized they didn't have cause to hold a
- 58:46minor. And so he gets there.
- 58:49He's like, oh fuck, I'll help you.
- 58:51And he's like reaching down to grab the knife and then a chair
- 58:54falls and pushes it in farther. It is fire and smoke all around.
- 59:01He tries to help her, he gets the knife out of her.
- 59:03By that point it's too late. And also.
- 59:05Stepping in the blood, guys, yeah.
- 59:06Shoe prints all over the place. It's just fucking he's.
- 59:09Fully incriminated himself, and then he realizes the house is
- 59:12about to explode, so he runs out.
- 59:14And as he runs out, Billy's there because why wouldn't he?
- 59:17Small town? Yeah, on his bike again, because
- 59:20he's too scared to drive the fucking car.
- 59:23Yep, and by doing so he comes across an explosion.
- 59:26Yep. Boom, whole house explodes.
- 59:29So the agents some unspecified time later asked Clear to
- 59:34contact them if she talked to Alex Carter, almost his Billy on
- 59:40his way to the memorial and he starts carving in Terry's name
- 59:45saying that she deserves to be on this memorial too.
- 59:47She died after the events, but it's still Alex's fault.
- 59:50In his mind, this is a People murdered by Alex Browning
- 59:54Memorial. That's how the whole town feels
- 59:56about it, Yeah, but they're all going to meet up with Alex
- 59:58because Queer's like, he's got the answers.
- 1:00:01He's going to know exactly like who is going to be dying.
- 1:00:04And she tells Carter he has to be the one to take her to him
- 1:00:06because she's being followed by the feds and she doesn't want
- 1:00:09him to get arrested. So they go to State Park and
- 1:00:11they split up to search. She ends up finding Alex and
- 1:00:16tells the story about her dad being murdered at a 711 and that
- 1:00:20her mom just basically disowned her because of the man she
- 1:00:23married didn't want kids. So she's just kind of been on
- 1:00:26her own. And she's like, And if that was
- 1:00:28death's grand plan for my family, then fuck death.
- 1:00:31Good to ask you. Yeah, yeah, fuck it.
- 1:00:33So they're all in the car, Queer offers.
- 1:00:35Let him stay at her dad's cabin in the woods.
- 1:00:38And then they ask who's next? Because by this point they've
- 1:00:41been filled in on the theory and considering everybody has died
- 1:00:45in that order, it makes sense. And he's not saying.
- 1:00:47And then Carter's like, it's me, isn't it?
- 1:00:49And Billy goes, no, obviously it's me.
- 1:00:51And Carter's like, he would say it if it was you.
- 1:00:53He's not saying it because I'm driving and also like to punch
- 1:00:57him. So it's definitely me.
- 1:00:59So he starts driving really erratically and as is stopping
- 1:01:02on the railroad tracks just as the arms are lowering.
- 1:01:07They all get out except for Carter.
- 1:01:10Because they're like, I don't I've I've seen trauma life in
- 1:01:14the ERI know what happens if people get hit by a train.
- 1:01:17It's not pretty. I actually did watch an episode
- 1:01:20like that and this dude's hand was like mangled because he was
- 1:01:23like jumping tracks and fell and like his hand got run over by
- 1:01:27the train. It was really gross.
- 1:01:28I thought you were about to say you saw it happen in person
- 1:01:30because like after the last episode where you revealed you
- 1:01:33saw somebody get ran over, like I'm going to expect the worst
- 1:01:36now. Especially because I used to
- 1:01:38live near real world tracks. I did too.
- 1:01:41I was like, not even like, I could fucking like, see it from
- 1:01:43my house. OK, So yeah, he doesn't want to
- 1:01:47get out. But then eventually Alex
- 1:01:49convinces him he's like, all right, it's not my time.
- 1:01:51Yeah, but also he feels like he's trying to prove life.
- 1:01:53He's like, seat, not my time. And then he can't get out.
- 1:01:57The seat belt is stuck. And Alex sees in his head, he
- 1:02:01sees that the seat belt is going to break.
- 1:02:04So he manages to get in there and pulls Carter out.
- 1:02:07They get out just in time before the train hits the car, and
- 1:02:12they're all arguing by the side of the tracks.
- 1:02:15As this is happening, Billy is very freaked out.
- 1:02:18Carter's like, Oh my God, you saved my life.
- 1:02:19And Billy's like, well, what happens now?
- 1:02:22Well, what happens now is that Carter had an intervention and
- 1:02:26now it's Billye turn and he gets beheaded by some shrapnel.
- 1:02:29Death was like really like okay, well shit, I might as well go
- 1:02:33ahead and get this guy now. He was so ready.
- 1:02:36He planted that seed already for Billy before he even had a
- 1:02:40chance to get Carter IF. Anybody was.
- 1:02:42He's gonna have a quick and painless death in this
- 1:02:44franchise. I'm really glad it was Billy
- 1:02:45Hitchcock. I am too, but again, super
- 1:02:48fucking scary. That one terrified the shit on
- 1:02:50me as a kid. That one actually traumatized me
- 1:02:52as a child. This.
- 1:02:53Is my thing with this, with this series, if I was going to be
- 1:02:57caught in a death trap, I want it to be a quick one.
- 1:03:01Yeah, for sure. I want it like that.
- 1:03:02I don't want to miss Luton or a George's brother.
- 1:03:05I want. Yeah, boom.
- 1:03:07Or a time. Oh, yeah, sorry, you're talking
- 1:03:10about that. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:03:13No, I am 100% in agreement. Also Terry.
- 1:03:17You know Terry, Yeah. OK, fuck it.
- 1:03:19I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm with you in agreement
- 1:03:21there, all right. So now Alex is at the cabin and
- 1:03:27he is safety proofing everything.
- 1:03:30He's tense and nervous and he can't relax and he's like
- 1:03:35putting duct tape on random things.
- 1:03:37And he, you know, when we watched Bloodlines and she was
- 1:03:40like, I saw you come in and I was like, have we seen somebody
- 1:03:43talk to death like that before? No, it all started with Alex.
- 1:03:46It all started with Devin Sawa. And I feel like that was a
- 1:03:49devinism. Like he was like he almost got
- 1:03:52me. I love his delivery.
- 1:03:53That's like but you didn't you fuck.
- 1:03:55He was just like, damn, tell him.
- 1:03:58Death, you Dick. Yeah, but it's also like, was it
- 1:04:02actually going to go for the long game?
- 1:04:04He's like, he he saw the hook. He's like tetanus.
- 1:04:06It's rusted. Isn't that how you're going to
- 1:04:07get me? No, I think it was going to be a
- 1:04:08little bit more like complex than that.
- 1:04:10Man, I would Death doesn't play the long game.
- 1:04:13Sometimes death does. Sometimes it does, but not in
- 1:04:15this instance. If you cheat death, it does not
- 1:04:17do the. Longing.
- 1:04:18Yeah. I don't think it's gonna, like,
- 1:04:20try and give him tetanus in this instance.
- 1:04:23Yeah. Clear is looking at a photo of
- 1:04:25her and her dad at the cabin. And the feds are outside
- 1:04:29watching her. And she just, she goes up to
- 1:04:30them. She's like, listen, I'm not
- 1:04:32gonna turn them in, but Alex can't be alone out in the cabin.
- 1:04:36I'm very concerned about him. And they're like, OK, well,
- 1:04:40we're gonna go talk to him. And she's like, I'm gonna go to
- 1:04:42you. And they're like, no.
- 1:04:46So yeah, they go to him. And he's in the cabin, and he
- 1:04:50realized that he never actually ended up moving in the plane
- 1:04:53because everything happened so quickly.
- 1:04:55And that throws off the rotation.
- 1:04:59Yeah. So he, it's not him that's next.
- 1:05:01It's. Clear.
- 1:05:02So he climbs into a canoe just as the feds are arriving, and he
- 1:05:07manages to pedal across the lake.
- 1:05:09You know, you brought up Detective Donnie earlier, and we
- 1:05:13had a moment like this in dead silence as well.
- 1:05:15Oh, yeah. This is a weird the weird
- 1:05:17crossover. Canada.
- 1:05:19This is filmed in Canada. I thought you're gonna say this
- 1:05:22is Canon. Maybe all Canadian movies are
- 1:05:25just in the same universe. So they're it's Canada.
- 1:05:30Canada, Yeah. OK.
- 1:05:32I like that cannon. All right, so while all that's
- 1:05:37happening at Queer's Place, there's some storm going.
- 1:05:40On Yeah, there's like a windstorm happening and her dog
- 1:05:44is outside. His name is Prince and he is
- 1:05:47chained up and their laundry umbrella.
- 1:05:54People in this movie dry their clothes in very inventive ways.
- 1:05:59And I'm not saying that like hang drying clothes is
- 1:06:01inventive. I mean the ways they're doing
- 1:06:02it. She's a child, she doesn't know
- 1:06:04what she's doing. She probably welded this
- 1:06:07umbrella together. She probably did.
- 1:06:08You're right. Anyway, it has knocked down a
- 1:06:11line so there's a live wire on the yard.
- 1:06:13So she goes out to get Prince unhooked and then the above
- 1:06:17ground swimming pool gets punctured.
- 1:06:19So now the ground is basically, Yep, full of electricity.
- 1:06:23So she's on the lattice up the side of her house and she
- 1:06:28manages to get inside, but because the wire is still
- 1:06:31jumping around, now there's like electrical fires in her house.
- 1:06:35Everything is exploding inside her house.
- 1:06:37It's fucking crazy. She gets to her car in the
- 1:06:39garage, but it also gets zapped by the electricity.
- 1:06:43And Alex comes up and he is, he's got a shovel and he's going
- 1:06:48to use it to fight electricity because that's what you do.
- 1:06:51And he's like, listen, then it it needs to skip you to cheat
- 1:06:56death. And she was like, what, no,
- 1:06:58don't do that. And she starts to get out, but
- 1:07:00he's thrown back by the wire. And then the feds see that he's
- 1:07:04been electrocuted and they start resuscitation efforts.
- 1:07:07So this is where he died in the original version, which they
- 1:07:10shot it all and everything, and he just like grabs on to the
- 1:07:13wire and he just like lights on fire.
- 1:07:17He doesn't go flying back or anything.
- 1:07:18He just like combusts. Yeah.
- 1:07:20Then he falls to the ground and he's just like in flames.
- 1:07:22He just guys like that there after all that.
- 1:07:25Six months later. Six months later, they are on a
- 1:07:27plane, but they're exiting the plane.
- 1:07:29They arrived in France this time.
- 1:07:32Alex, Claire and Carter are all together.
- 1:07:34They are shocked that they're all together.
- 1:07:36I feel like Carter third wheeled.
- 1:07:39He totally did. Yeah, like.
- 1:07:41He's like, I never thought we would get along this well.
- 1:07:44I he definitely he definitely will then like they're.
- 1:07:48Like oh man we only got 1 hotel room and he's like it's OK I'm
- 1:07:53sure that room has a couch I'll sleep on it and it's fine.
- 1:07:58And as they're there, Alex is like, there's just one little
- 1:08:02thing that's off about everything.
- 1:08:03And they're all groaning. I feel like Alex maybe does this
- 1:08:07once every week or two and they're just like pretty so many
- 1:08:11times and he's like, but nobody ever intervened with him.
- 1:08:16But also that's not true because the FBI, they resuscitated him.
- 1:08:20That's true. They did, yeah.
- 1:08:21I mean, like technically he may have died at that point, like
- 1:08:26like one of the things in the next.
- 1:08:27Movie, but that's the thing. But this is also, man, that's
- 1:08:30going to get so messy as we go through this franchise.
- 1:08:34Yeah, but either way, it wasn't a true intervention in his
- 1:08:39death. So he starts seeing signs, and
- 1:08:43he's getting paranoid. He's like, I'm going to go back
- 1:08:44to the hotel and Clara's like, hold on, I'll come with you.
- 1:08:47And then he's almost hit by a bus.
- 1:08:49Carter saves him. He's seen what happens when
- 1:08:51people are hit by buses. It's not good.
- 1:08:53He was like, we just hosted to Terry, like, why are you doing
- 1:08:56this? And then a sign.
- 1:08:59It turned into 180 after all that, yeah.
- 1:09:02It it swings down and hits Carter.
- 1:09:07Well, I know it swings down. That's where he like dives and
- 1:09:10gets Alex, misses Alex, and then it happens and then he's like,
- 1:09:14OK, what next? And then Alex is like, it
- 1:09:19skipped me. So it goes to the next person.
- 1:09:21Then Carter's like who's next? And.
- 1:09:23He's in the background. It's just like.
- 1:09:25Swinging back to him, yeah, like a pendulum.
- 1:09:28Man, all right, you know what? I'll go ahead and agree.
- 1:09:31This should be a 10 out of. Ten OK, cool.
- 1:09:33Yeah, I just like it is so fucking strong out the gate
- 1:09:36right there. And I think it stands toe to toe
- 1:09:39with any one of them in the series here for sure.
- 1:09:41I agree. I, I think it's, it's such a
- 1:09:44good one and even though like we'll end up having more
- 1:09:47questions and maybe discuss some things in an obnoxious amount of
- 1:09:52depth later, I think it'll still be like it it it's still set the
- 1:09:59standard for the franchise. Yeah, they don't really deviate
- 1:10:02too much from it either. They laid the rules down hard
- 1:10:05and they all stick with it. It's a solid set of rules.
- 1:10:08Yeah, All right. Talia, throughout this movie,
- 1:10:13she's pretty restless. I don't know that she was having
- 1:10:19a super easy time with this. I think she was.
- 1:10:20Kind of stressed. I mean, yeah, I think this movie
- 1:10:22definitely plays on the fears of puppy.
- 1:10:24You know, she feels like she has to protect us from everything.
- 1:10:26And this watches movie. That's true.
- 1:10:27Makes her realize how many things we need protected from.
- 1:10:30Yeah, she's like this is it's too much.
- 1:10:32I can't handle this. Yeah, so she gets a 10.
- 1:10:36Maybe we can give her your original score 975.
- 1:10:40Yeah, because we didn't get to see more of Prince, and surely
- 1:10:44Prince is a big part of the reason why Clear's still alive.
- 1:10:46It's like it's just inaccurate. The Prince wouldn't have saved
- 1:10:48the day. Yeah, I mean, I don't.
- 1:10:50Get it? Yeah, OK.
- 1:10:53Zoe's ultimate warrior. Yeah, we can probably do that
- 1:10:55again. Let's see.
- 1:10:58I mean, we couldn't do it. Oh, we could.
- 1:11:01We just can't we. You can't pick death, but you
- 1:11:03can't really pick death in these anyways.
- 1:11:05No. Yeah, I'm going to say Billy
- 1:11:08because of him just like snacking a lot.
- 1:11:13Except he like if she was on a plane that was going down and
- 1:11:17there's food on the ground, she was suddenly going for the.
- 1:11:19Food. I know what it is.
- 1:11:20It's Carter because Zoe always picks fights with Scout.
- 1:11:23That's true. Scout would probably say Zoe,
- 1:11:25you Dick all right if she could act.
- 1:11:27That's probably what she meows. Yeah, I believe that.
- 1:11:30OK, I like that. I like that.
- 1:11:32Carter, you Dick. All right, so we don't do SQL
- 1:11:39dream sequels when we talk about a franchise, but we do need to
- 1:11:42come up with who we related to. Yeah, OK.
- 1:11:46I think I would have been the Billy in this situation here.
- 1:11:51In what way? Well, I just like the his whole
- 1:11:54attitude towards the thing, like he's freaking out about it and
- 1:11:56he just keeps going to Alex. He's like, hey, man, like, like,
- 1:11:58what if I ask this girl out, you know, like, what I mean?
- 1:12:01Like, just like, I, I would be super uneasy about everything,
- 1:12:05but I would also go to the person that saved my life
- 1:12:08through some sort of supernatural way for, like,
- 1:12:11answers. Yeah.
- 1:12:15I think I relate to Alex's dad OK because I would have
- 1:12:24encouraged him to keep the luggage tag on my suitcase and I
- 1:12:28also would have encouraged him to date clear.
- 1:12:31OK, there we go. So.
- 1:12:32Yeah, now we have to come up with a new tagline.
- 1:12:35New tagline. Let's see, yeah.
- 1:12:41I got an airport pun. Go for it.
- 1:12:46Death is always terminal. Oh my God, Jesse, that is good.
- 1:12:52I wrote that down when you were reading the 25 different tag
- 1:12:57lines. That is fucking solid.
- 1:12:59Thank you. Good job.
- 1:13:01All right. All right now.
- 1:13:03We do review. Let's do us a negative review on
- 1:13:06an IMDb because I knew. That we would love this one.
- 1:13:10Obviously, I honestly don't think we're going to do a a
- 1:13:13positive review in this part because we love all the movies.
- 1:13:16Yeah, we love all of these movies.
- 1:13:18Yeah, so let's see here, let's go with right here.
- 1:13:22So 1 outs in seriously a bad film.
- 1:13:24This was reviewed back in June 1st 2000, so right whenever it
- 1:13:27was released. Well.
- 1:13:29Not right whenever, but a few months.
- 1:13:30After it was in theaters still, I thought the spate of teen base
- 1:13:34horror flicks was over. I thought that by the time we
- 1:13:36got to I Still Know You've Forgotten some summers ago or
- 1:13:40whatever that it was all finally milked for every penny it was
- 1:13:43worth. I was wrong.
- 1:13:44I can't think of a plot more grotesquely stupid than that of
- 1:13:47Final Destination. 5 minutes into it, I predicted every
- 1:13:50single frame that was still to come.
- 1:13:52Kerr Smith's character irritated beyond comprehension every two
- 1:13:55seconds. He started to fight for no
- 1:13:57reason and was bullheaded and annoying throughout the whole
- 1:14:01film. While some of you may think that
- 1:14:03Final Destination is different from the rest of teen horror
- 1:14:06flicks out there, it has one very annoying similarity that no
- 1:14:10one can deny, and that is actors in the mid late 20s playing
- 1:14:14teenagers. It gets me every time I think.
- 1:14:17I don't think Devin Sawa was that old then.
- 1:14:20I think he was probably right around.
- 1:14:22The yeah, he was close to that age, actually.
- 1:14:24Yeah, I don't think. I think most of them were maybe
- 1:14:27like Sean William Scott was a little bit older but like not
- 1:14:29much. I don't know.
- 1:14:30Well, I think I just, it's hard to even take that as a valid
- 1:14:34complaint about a specific movie because that's just honestly a
- 1:14:37Hollywoodism. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:14:39And I get saying like, oh, this is another one in a long line of
- 1:14:42them, but OK, what's different about this that also makes you
- 1:14:45dislike it other than this broad general thing?
- 1:14:48I just also think that I I don't necessarily even think of this
- 1:14:52as like a teen Scream type of movie.
- 1:14:54You know, I think of like the the fact that they're teens
- 1:14:56doesn't really, it's not that big of a deal.
- 1:14:59Like it kind of is like important to the characters, but
- 1:15:02it doesn't go with like the tropes of like things like I
- 1:15:05know you did it last summer, like things that we're trying to
- 1:15:07deliberately copy Scream. Yeah.
- 1:15:09It doesn't feel like that at all.
- 1:15:11I mean, only in the fact that they were teens is like the only
- 1:15:14similarity I could think of for that.
- 1:15:16And yeah, I don't think it should be a knock or anything
- 1:15:18like that. OK.
- 1:15:20All right, let's do some listener reviews then.
- 1:15:23All right, let's do it. OK, so we'll start off over on
- 1:15:27Instagram. First off, we have Michael E
- 1:15:30Howard, who says such a great movie that started off one of
- 1:15:34the most fun franchises. I'm a huge fan of Destination
- 1:15:37fan, great cast, good effects. And Tony Todd, 9 out of 10.
- 1:15:40All right. Hell yeah.
- 1:15:42I I agree, like the cast is so strong, it's hard to it's hard
- 1:15:49to like be mad about any of the casting analysis or
- 1:15:52performances. Yeah, and the effects are
- 1:15:54amazing for this movie right here.
- 1:15:56And yeah, Tony Todd, he's so fucking iconic.
- 1:15:58I like that he made it into two iconic franchises.
- 1:16:02Yes, absolutely. And he deserved, he deserved it.
- 1:16:05He deserves more. It's hard, man.
- 1:16:07Like, I know people see him as candy man, but like, I also see
- 1:16:11him a lot as blood worth. Yeah.
- 1:16:12I mean, that's one of my first thoughts when I think of Tony
- 1:16:15Todd was Final Destination. OK we have cube saves.
- 1:16:20Who says death is a petty bitch? Did I say that earlier?
- 1:16:24Like word for word. I think you did.
- 1:16:27I feel like I did nice. Yeah, that's good.
- 1:16:31OK, Half Price Horror says it's such a weird franchise because
- 1:16:33it's so completely and totally formulaic, but each individual
- 1:16:36element in that formula is expressed so creatively.
- 1:16:39It's basically just a collection of you won't believe this weird
- 1:16:42death scene, YouTube clips, but there's all so damn fun.
- 1:16:46That's actually a really good way to put that.
- 1:16:47Yeah. I mean, it's kind of formulaic,
- 1:16:49but like, it plays with it so well that it's not even an
- 1:16:52issue. It's still super creative.
- 1:16:53It's one of those things that you have to know the tropes and
- 1:16:56you have to understand what makes them work to be able to
- 1:16:59utilize them this way. Yeah for sure and in the final
- 1:17:02review we have Lord Zombie who says what a start to a great
- 1:17:05franchise. Really neat idea of the
- 1:17:07premonition of Doom. I am glad the later movies
- 1:17:09dropped the idea of death as a supernatural force and more a
- 1:17:12goofy Rube Goldberg trap. Yeah, it definitely does go more
- 1:17:16into like the Rube Goldberg type thing later.
- 1:17:18On Yeah. Yeah, I like the idea of death
- 1:17:20being present. I think it's kind of cool still.
- 1:17:23I wish that we could have had a mixture of both.
- 1:17:25But I am not mad with the direction that they go with it
- 1:17:28later on because the Rube Goldberg thing is like it's a
- 1:17:31big part of what makes this whole thing fun.
- 1:17:34Yeah, I agree. And it it really adds to that
- 1:17:37suspense because you're looking at all of these different ways
- 1:17:39that something could happen. And that's part of what makes
- 1:17:41like what we're talking about at the beginning of this, what
- 1:17:43makes this franchise so compelling is because it plays
- 1:17:47on your paranoia. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:49OK. And that's it for the reviews.
- 1:17:50OK, that means it's for the first episode of the Final
- 1:17:54Destination coverage. And that means that we're done
- 1:17:57with Final Destination, and that means that we gotta talk about
- 1:18:00next week's episode. Yeah, we're just snakes on a
- 1:18:02plane. Yeah, we.
- 1:18:04Travel, we gotta travel. It's Thanksgiving time, so
- 1:18:07snakes on a plane right now. It's not streaming, but you can
- 1:18:10rent it. YouTube, Google, Prime, Apple,
- 1:18:13Fandango at home. So if you've not watched it, Oh
- 1:18:16my God, like we had. Yeah, we watched it for the
- 1:18:19first time a few months ago. It's so much fun.
- 1:18:21Do it. It's fun.
- 1:18:22Yeah, it's good. Give it a shot.
- 1:18:24I'm really looking forward to this one.
