- 0:00Speaker 1: The life of rest. Now this morning, I want to
- 0:05Speaker 1: take one of the very simplest thoughts of God's word
- 0:08Speaker 1: as the subject of my address. We have been speaking
- 0:12Speaker 1: for two weeks about the spiritual life, but you know
- 0:15Speaker 1: where the spiritual life is to be put into practice
- 0:18Speaker 1: in the every day life and to day. Therefore, I
- 0:22Speaker 1: want to come down very low to the level of
- 0:25Speaker 1: our every day Christianity. It is in the rush of
- 0:29Speaker 1: daily life that the presence of God is to be
- 0:31Speaker 1: experienced and his power to be proved. We began last
- 0:36Speaker 1: week by speaking about the work of the Holy Spirit.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I tried to point out to you what God intends
- 0:42Speaker 1: that spirit to be in your daily life, in your
- 0:45Speaker 1: walk as holy and spiritually minded men, in a walk
- 0:49Speaker 1: of love and humility. I tried to point what the
- 0:53Speaker 1: great hindrances are too a spiritual life, especially self. I
- 0:58Speaker 1: try to point out what the bless sicknesses that will
- 1:01Speaker 1: come if we give ourselves to the leading of the Spirit,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and what the object is for which we are to
- 1:06Speaker 1: seek it. Then we came this week to speak about
- 1:11Speaker 1: the work of Christ. I began by pointing out that
- 1:14Speaker 1: his great work is just to bring us very near
- 1:17Speaker 1: to God and how I believe that this is a
- 1:20Speaker 1: great want in the Church of Christ. We need more
- 1:24Speaker 1: of God, more humble waiting upon God in our private
- 1:27Speaker 1: prayer and worship and in public services. God must take
- 1:32Speaker 1: the first place in everything. We must take time to
- 1:36Speaker 1: wait upon God for God to take that place in
- 1:39Speaker 1: our souls. I then spoke about how Christ came to
- 1:43Speaker 1: exhibit just this one thing, a life of absolute dependence
- 1:47Speaker 1: upon God. He came to reveal to us that God
- 1:51Speaker 1: was everything to him. We spoke of other parts of
- 1:54Speaker 1: his work, and last night we closed by speaking about
- 1:58Speaker 1: Jesus Christ in his blos lest work as an almighty keeper,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and ended by a consecration beating, in which we gave
- 2:06Speaker 1: up ourselves to him. God grant that many souls may
- 2:10Speaker 1: know what it is that the everlasting God is keeping them.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And now we have to go away to our daily life,
- 2:17Speaker 1: our homes, our business, our studies, our duties, and all
- 2:21Speaker 1: of you know by experience that it is just there
- 2:24Speaker 1: that the failure comes in. It is all right in
- 2:27Speaker 1: my closet, and it is all right in my worship,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and all right in my work when I am speaking
- 2:33Speaker 1: for Christ. But o the times of relaxation, the times
- 2:37Speaker 1: when I am off my guard, and the times when
- 2:40Speaker 1: I am in the duties of this life. These are
- 2:42Speaker 1: the times when failures come, and the great question now arises.
- 2:47Speaker 1: How can I live so that not only on the
- 2:49Speaker 1: mount of worship, but down low in the valley of
- 2:53Speaker 1: the most ordinary, every day life, I may have unbroken
- 2:56Speaker 1: the sense of the presence of God. Dear friends, if
- 3:01Speaker 1: you want the revelation of God, I have told you
- 3:03Speaker 1: more than once, you must take more time in prayer
- 3:07Speaker 1: and have daily fellowship with God. You must take more
- 3:10Speaker 1: time in your secret hour of prayer, just quietly to
- 3:13Speaker 1: realize God and adore Him. But the fullest revelation of
- 3:18Speaker 1: God cannot satisfy unless it is carried out in the
- 3:21Speaker 1: daily life. The value of contact with God every day,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and the value of the power of the Holy Ghost daily,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and the value of Christ as a keeper must be
- 3:32Speaker 1: proved in daily life. More than one begins to ask,
- 3:37Speaker 1: will it last? The blessing I have got? Will I
- 3:39Speaker 1: be faithful? Will it ever be carried out in my
- 3:42Speaker 1: daily life? Listen to the word I have for you
- 3:46Speaker 1: this morning. It is one of the simplest descriptions of
- 3:49Speaker 1: the life of faith. Philippians Chapter four, verses five and six.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Be careful or anxious for nothing, but in everything, by
- 3:58Speaker 1: prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made
- 4:02Speaker 1: known unto God. Here we have a RESTful life. It
- 4:07Speaker 1: is the life of continual trust, continual prayer, continual praise,
- 4:12Speaker 1: continual peace, continual safety. Five blessed marks of the blessed life. First,
- 4:20Speaker 1: the RESTful life is a life of continual trust. That
- 4:24Speaker 1: is where it begins. You notice that we have the
- 4:28Speaker 1: name of God in these two verses twice. In the
- 4:31Speaker 1: first verse it is bring your needs, your requests unto God,
- 4:36Speaker 1: that is to say, let God be the one object
- 4:39Speaker 1: of your trust. And then comes in the second verse,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and God will be a fountain of blessing to you.
- 4:45Speaker 1: The peace of God will keep you. These are the
- 4:48Speaker 1: two sides. My love must be turned to God, and
- 4:52Speaker 1: God's love and blessing will be turned to me. Be
- 4:56Speaker 1: anxious for nothing. You know how difficult it is to
- 4:59Speaker 1: obey the command You hear people tell when you talk
- 5:03Speaker 1: about the higher life. Oh, if you only knew my circumstances.
- 5:08Speaker 1: At Northfield, a man told me, it is all very
- 5:10Speaker 1: well at a convention that one does come into such
- 5:13Speaker 1: difficulties in business, that it is almost impossible to expect
- 5:17Speaker 1: that you will always be kept in perfect peace. Now
- 5:21Speaker 1: Here comes the word of God. Dear children of God,
- 5:23Speaker 1: who gave yourselves up last night, learn the lesson be
- 5:27Speaker 1: anxious for nothing, and why because you have a God
- 5:31Speaker 1: that cares for you. Oh, I wish I could say
- 5:34Speaker 1: to my friends and myself what I see sometimes? Is
- 5:38Speaker 1: God going to do everything so perfectly in nature all
- 5:41Speaker 1: around me? And is the only place he is going
- 5:43Speaker 1: to fail here in my life? Look at the sun
- 5:47Speaker 1: for thousands of years, how perfectly it has been shining,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and with what abiding fruitfulness it has blessed. The earth
- 5:54Speaker 1: so perfect it cannot be more perfect, and it was
- 5:58Speaker 1: God that made it shine. Look on the earth at
- 6:02Speaker 1: these trees and flowers and the green grass. Look at
- 6:05Speaker 1: the bird, the animal, or fish, each one so perfectly
- 6:09Speaker 1: fitted to show forth the glory, wisdom and power of God.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And is God not able to work as perfectly in
- 6:15Speaker 1: the hearts of his child and is the only place
- 6:18Speaker 1: of failure to be your heart and mine? I cannot
- 6:22Speaker 1: believe it. I believe that the God who works so
- 6:25Speaker 1: gloriously in the universe, is willing to work more gloriously
- 6:28Speaker 1: in your heart, so that your heart shall be the
- 6:31Speaker 1: scene where His glory is fully revealed, the manifestation of
- 6:35Speaker 1: what God's love and power can do. But why does
- 6:39Speaker 1: he not do it? Because you won't let him, because
- 6:42Speaker 1: you don't trust him, because you allow circumstances to come
- 6:46Speaker 1: between you and God, because you, in your heart believe
- 6:50Speaker 1: circumstances are stronger than God. You think God cannot deliver
- 6:55Speaker 1: me from their power. You have not got fully under
- 6:58Speaker 1: the power of the promises and love of God. This
- 7:02Speaker 1: word comes, be anxious for nothing. God is willing to
- 7:05Speaker 1: take charge of everything. Apply that to external things. One
- 7:10Speaker 1: may be in adversity, another may be surrounded by enemies,
- 7:14Speaker 1: another may not be able to keep his engagements. Then
- 7:17Speaker 1: comes the word be anxious for nothing. You know how
- 7:22Speaker 1: depressing it is to have unconverted relatives. Are you not
- 7:25Speaker 1: to be anxious about that? No, be anxious for nothing?
- 7:30Speaker 1: How can that be? In this way alone? That I
- 7:34Speaker 1: carry all the care under trouble and the circumstances to
- 7:38Speaker 1: the living God, and that I wait upon Him until
- 7:41Speaker 1: I get sight of my God undertaking and taking complete charge.
- 7:46Speaker 1: When my soul gets sight of that, the anxiety goes away,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and I rest in the perfect trust. God cares. God
- 7:54Speaker 1: has charge, and God will guide me right. Apply that
- 7:59Speaker 1: to your spiritual work. I know there are those here
- 8:02Speaker 1: who are in great difficulty about their spiritual life. They
- 8:06Speaker 1: have taken the step last night, but they have done
- 8:08Speaker 1: it more than once before. There is a note of
- 8:11Speaker 1: fear in their hearts. Will it last? I have such
- 8:15Speaker 1: a temper, I have such a disposition. I have such
- 8:18Speaker 1: little help in those around me. There are a thousand
- 8:22Speaker 1: things around me to draw me back. I come to
- 8:25Speaker 1: point you to what Jesus Christ did. He came to
- 8:29Speaker 1: bring us to God. If as his humble, feeble servant,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I can take you and lead you to your God,
- 8:36Speaker 1: my work will be done. What is a god for?
- 8:40Speaker 1: A God is meant to be the light and life
- 8:42Speaker 1: of all nature and existence. A God lives for this.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We need a God to be the only power that
- 8:49Speaker 1: works throughout the universe. A God is meant to have
- 8:53Speaker 1: charge of the creatures he has made and to fill
- 8:56Speaker 1: their life with his blessedness. Look at your God. Never
- 9:00Speaker 1: did a mother care for a little child with such
- 9:03Speaker 1: watchful tenderness from morning to night. As your God is
- 9:06Speaker 1: willing to take charge of your spiritual and your external life.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Do you know this God? Have you learned to say,
- 9:14Speaker 1: I do trust thee. I have no anxiety for my
- 9:18Speaker 1: God provides. He is God Almighty, and his promises are
- 9:22Speaker 1: so wonderful, and he is so loving and tender. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: will trust my God. Who is going to say, this morning,
- 9:30Speaker 1: God help me. I want to have not a single anxiety.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I am going to trust God. God will do his
- 9:37Speaker 1: work beautifully and blessedly and most gloriously. Children of God,
- 9:43Speaker 1: be careful for nothing. You know the sixth chapter of Matthew,
- 9:48Speaker 1: with those precious words of the Lord Jesus. They are
- 9:51Speaker 1: not only for poor people who have no clothes, but
- 9:54Speaker 1: they are meant for every one of us. If God
- 9:57Speaker 1: clothe the lilies with his beauty, how much more will
- 10:00Speaker 1: he clothe you? Just think of that. How does God
- 10:04Speaker 1: clothe the lilies? Not from without? He puts within the
- 10:08Speaker 1: life that grows up into them, and with most beautiful
- 10:11Speaker 1: freshness there comes up a lily. A lily has the
- 10:15Speaker 1: life of God, the spirit of nature that comes from
- 10:18Speaker 1: God working in it. God clothed that lily, And will
- 10:22Speaker 1: God not much more clothe you and be with the beauty,
- 10:25Speaker 1: of holiness and of humility. Oh Christian, take this word.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Be careful for nothing. The RESTful life is a life
- 10:34Speaker 1: of continual trust. Second, the next mark of a RESTful
- 10:39Speaker 1: life in everything by prayer and supplication. Let your requests
- 10:44Speaker 1: be known unto God. Continual prayer. It is in prayer
- 10:49Speaker 1: that you will learn the secret of trusting. If you
- 10:53Speaker 1: take but little time to pray, you will have but
- 10:55Speaker 1: little power to trust. Trust toward God is not natural
- 10:59Speaker 1: to us. Trust is very natural to us toward a
- 11:03Speaker 1: fellow man. When a man tells me a thing, I
- 11:06Speaker 1: do not take a moment to believe. We are on
- 11:09Speaker 1: the platform of nature. When my God speaks, we are
- 11:13Speaker 1: on another platform. God is the invisible one, a spirit
- 11:17Speaker 1: of holiness, and I can trust Him only by the
- 11:20Speaker 1: Holy Spirit coming into me. If I live under the
- 11:24Speaker 1: leading of the Holy Spirit, my heart grows larger, my
- 11:27Speaker 1: capacity of trust is increased. My eyes are opened up,
- 11:31Speaker 1: and I see the glory and limitless promises of God
- 11:34Speaker 1: and the treasures of his grace. I see his heart
- 11:38Speaker 1: and omnipotent love actually engaged in blessing me, and my
- 11:42Speaker 1: heart learns to rejoice in Him. In prayer, I learn
- 11:46Speaker 1: to trust him. Remember this in everything that means temporal things,
- 11:52Speaker 1: that means spiritual things, that means great things, and that
- 11:56Speaker 1: means little things. Some people pray about the great things,
- 12:00Speaker 1: great troubles, but not about the little things. That is
- 12:04Speaker 1: wrong in the life of faith. Some think that the
- 12:08Speaker 1: word means all I can manage I keep in my
- 12:11Speaker 1: own hands, and all I cannot manage, I may expect
- 12:14Speaker 1: God to take care of. This is not the way
- 12:18Speaker 1: God must have all committed to him. One asks me,
- 12:22Speaker 1: how can I know the will of God in a difficulty?
- 12:25Speaker 1: My brother? The way to know that in difficulty is
- 12:29Speaker 1: to follow the will of God its simple things. Let
- 12:32Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit show you the will of God in
- 12:35Speaker 1: little things every day, and when great perplexities come, the
- 12:38Speaker 1: Holy Spirit will reveal God's will. What a privilege it is,
- 12:43Speaker 1: amid the worries of daily life and difficult circumstances to
- 12:47Speaker 1: leave them all with God, just to say, Lord, these circumstances,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I bring them all to THEE. I entrust them to
- 12:55Speaker 1: THEE by prayer and supplication. I can put them into
- 12:59Speaker 1: my Father's bosom indefinitely. I can give them over to Him,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and I can rest there until conscious that the Spirit
- 13:06Speaker 1: assures me they are in God's hands. In more prayer
- 13:10Speaker 1: you will learn the secret of trust in spiritual things.
- 13:14Speaker 1: How often we go to a minister, or to a teacher,
- 13:17Speaker 1: or books, Not that I am depreciating teachers or books,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but when we depend upon them, they come between us
- 13:24Speaker 1: and God. How often we have questions and say, I
- 13:28Speaker 1: wish I could ask that question. I wish he would
- 13:31Speaker 1: tell us what he thinks, instead of going with every
- 13:34Speaker 1: question to God and saying, I do not expect the
- 13:37Speaker 1: voice of an angel to bring an answer at once,
- 13:40Speaker 1: but I once, in answer to prayer, to put the
- 13:42Speaker 1: difficulty in the bosom of the Father. And I know
- 13:46Speaker 1: by the secret in working of the Holy Spirit, he
- 13:48Speaker 1: will give me light on it and lead in a
- 13:51Speaker 1: right path. Let your life be full of prayer. I
- 13:56Speaker 1: have spoken about this need of daily fellowship with God.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I have put a few thoughts together and had them
- 14:02Speaker 1: put in print to be distributed among the friends. They
- 14:07Speaker 1: contain some instructions as to how the soul ought to
- 14:09Speaker 1: cultivate daily fellowship with God, in taking the place before God,
- 14:14Speaker 1: in realizing His presence, in taking our place in Christ Jesus,
- 14:18Speaker 1: in deepest humility and counting upon the work of the
- 14:22Speaker 1: Holy Spirit. If you will follow these instructions or any
- 14:26Speaker 1: others in God's word, you will find it such a
- 14:29Speaker 1: blessed thing to come and bow before God and present
- 14:32Speaker 1: your petitions. But you say, is God not listening to
- 14:36Speaker 1: what I say? Before I have felt the consciousness? Such
- 14:40Speaker 1: prayer helps very little. By prayer and supplication, make your
- 14:45Speaker 1: requests known unto God. Let your heart feel that you
- 14:49Speaker 1: have made it known to God. God will answer. I
- 14:53Speaker 1: have heard leave it with me. If you will thus
- 14:57Speaker 1: pray your prayers, there will be a new job, a
- 15:00Speaker 1: very fountain of blessing opened up to you. May God
- 15:04Speaker 1: make us all men of prayer. Remember that the Apostle
- 15:08Speaker 1: says in everything it does not mean only about your
- 15:12Speaker 1: own deeds. But the blessedness of prayer is it gives
- 15:15Speaker 1: me power with God as intercessor. The great work of
- 15:19Speaker 1: my Lord Jesus is to be always interceding. There is
- 15:24Speaker 1: no more heavenly work than intercession. And yet how much neglected,
- 15:29Speaker 1: how little practiced. Let us learn by prayer and supplication
- 15:33Speaker 1: to bring everything that might make us anxious to God.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Here is a minister with the congregation. How many things
- 15:41Speaker 1: he has to make him anxious, his own weakness, his
- 15:44Speaker 1: own spiritual life, the state of his members, some worldly Christians,
- 15:49Speaker 1: some unconverted people, how much to make him anxious. What
- 15:54Speaker 1: a privilege in intercession to get rid of it all,
- 15:57Speaker 1: to throw it into the bosom of Jehovah. And to
- 16:00Speaker 1: day I have made it known to God. That is enough.
- 16:05Speaker 1: There is a great deal in the Church and its
- 16:07Speaker 1: worldliness that might well make us tremendously anxious. Some are
- 16:12Speaker 1: deceiving themselves with a great deal of formality, with a
- 16:15Speaker 1: great deal of head knowledge, and the real personal love
- 16:18Speaker 1: of Jesus is wanting. But oh, do not let us
- 16:22Speaker 1: bear our burdens and anxieties ourselves, but learn the rest
- 16:26Speaker 1: of trust, the rest of faith. The blessed life is
- 16:31Speaker 1: the life of continual prayer, pouring into the heart of
- 16:34Speaker 1: God everything that comes into my heart. Third, not only
- 16:40Speaker 1: continual prayer, but continual praise in everything by prayer and
- 16:45Speaker 1: supplication with thanksgiving. Our prayers should be mingled with thanksgiving
- 16:50Speaker 1: for many reasons. The first practical reason, prayer will be
- 16:54Speaker 1: sure to cause depression. If you do not mingle it
- 16:57Speaker 1: with thanksgiving. In prayer, you may get too much occupied
- 17:01Speaker 1: with self. You turn to search out all your needs,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and they are so many you will be in danger
- 17:07Speaker 1: of getting anxious. Here is the cure for it. The
- 17:10Speaker 1: apostle says, always pray with thanksgiving. Begin your prayer with
- 17:15Speaker 1: worship and thanksgiving. Another reason for thanksgiving. It pleases God.
- 17:21Speaker 1: It will draw him to you. Begin your prayer with praise.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It will light up your heart. It will make you
- 17:28Speaker 1: rejoice in God, and joy gives new power in prayer.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Begin your prayer with praise. It will give wings to
- 17:35Speaker 1: your faith. When you think of what God has done
- 17:38Speaker 1: and what God has promised to do, praise Him for it. Thus,
- 17:42Speaker 1: God will do more every day. When you neglect to
- 17:46Speaker 1: praise God, you rob him of his glory and yourself
- 17:49Speaker 1: of a precious privilege. When you hear of men converted,
- 17:54Speaker 1: when you read a missionary letter showing blessing in his work,
- 17:57Speaker 1: praise God for the work that is being done. When
- 18:01Speaker 1: you hear of any good of a man, praise God
- 18:03Speaker 1: for it. Take every opportunity for praising. You will find
- 18:07Speaker 1: it ever leading you onward, ever upward. It gives a
- 18:11Speaker 1: consciousness of God's goodness, of joy and trust in Him.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Ever mingling your heart will be established in the rest
- 18:18Speaker 1: of faith. Fourth, and the peace of God that passeth
- 18:23Speaker 1: understanding shall keep you. Who is there to day that
- 18:27Speaker 1: would like to have the peace of God, the peace
- 18:30Speaker 1: that passes all understanding. Who would desire it? Are there
- 18:34Speaker 1: any hearts here that say, would God that I could
- 18:37Speaker 1: have it? Just think? What a peace? What does it mean?
- 18:42Speaker 1: It means this not only the peace that God gives. No,
- 18:46Speaker 1: it is the peace of God himself. We read in
- 18:50Speaker 1: the Hebrews that we must enter into the rest of God.
- 18:53Speaker 1: God says they are not entered into my rest in
- 18:56Speaker 1: Psalm ninety five, and Hebrews tells us they had not
- 19:00Speaker 1: been brought into the real rest. But we which have believed,
- 19:04Speaker 1: do enter into the rest of God, the rest of
- 19:07Speaker 1: knowing that God has finished his work. God has cared
- 19:11Speaker 1: for everything. I am a child of God. What a rest?
- 19:16Speaker 1: The peace of God, that great calm in which God,
- 19:19Speaker 1: ever dwells, can come down into my heart. God gives
- 19:23Speaker 1: his holy presence, and with that presence the sense of
- 19:26Speaker 1: His nearness and his love and his great peace. Don't
- 19:30Speaker 1: separate the peace of God from God himself. God cannot
- 19:34Speaker 1: give his peace the way I take a piece of
- 19:36Speaker 1: money out of my pocket and give it away from me.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Just as the light of the sun is always coming
- 19:42Speaker 1: direct from the sun, and I must have the sun,
- 19:45Speaker 1: then I can have the light. So it is with
- 19:48Speaker 1: the peace of God. I must have God. And when
- 19:51Speaker 1: I have God, then the peace of God as an
- 19:54Speaker 1: outflow will keep my heart. Who wants to have the
- 19:58Speaker 1: great Peace of God. God is a being of infinite
- 20:01Speaker 1: stillness and rest, and a peace passing all understanding. The
- 20:06Speaker 1: soul that really commits itself with every care to this
- 20:09Speaker 1: God will have him in his perfect rest and peace.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Take possession, beloved, You can have the presence of God
- 20:18Speaker 1: every moment. And where the presence of God is, the
- 20:21Speaker 1: great Peace of God is. The great Peace of God
- 20:25Speaker 1: can be with you all day. How can I get it?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Be anxious for nothing? Trust God, Meet God, and give
- 20:33Speaker 1: up selfish desires into His bosom with thanksgiving, praise, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: adore Him, and the Peace of God shall come and
- 20:40Speaker 1: fill your heart and life. The fifth mark of the
- 20:44Speaker 1: RESTful life is perfect safety. The word is a beautiful one.
- 20:49Speaker 1: The peace of God shall guard your heart and mind.
- 20:52Speaker 1: By Christ Jesus shall guard it, shall keep it. You
- 20:56Speaker 1: had that word last night. Now unto him who is
- 21:00Speaker 1: able to keep. How blessed to have heart and mind kept,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I cannot keep them. The heart is always ready to
- 21:08Speaker 1: wonder and get discouraged with its fears and perplexities. But
- 21:12Speaker 1: in the great peace of God coming down to keep
- 21:15Speaker 1: heart and mind, my whole nature may be kept. Through
- 21:18Speaker 1: Christ Jesus, believers, I beseech you, by the mercies of God,
- 21:22Speaker 1: to live this life of perfect rest. We have spoken
- 21:26Speaker 1: to you about the Holy Spirit and his work, and
- 21:29Speaker 1: Christ and his work revealed that He might bring us
- 21:32Speaker 1: to God. And this text comes and says, after you
- 21:36Speaker 1: have brought yourself, bring every anxiety too, and every desire
- 21:41Speaker 1: unto the Living God, and leave it in his bosom.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Be assured that as you reach out after God, he
- 21:47Speaker 1: will send down the very peace of Heaven to keep
- 21:50Speaker 1: your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, dear Christians. Is
- 21:55Speaker 1: each one of us going to live in accordance with
- 21:57Speaker 1: this blessed word? Ministers of the Gospel who have got
- 22:01Speaker 1: to preach to others. I quoted the word yesterday. I
- 22:04Speaker 1: am going to quote it again because it made such
- 22:06Speaker 1: a strong, deep impression in my heart. The first duty
- 22:10Speaker 1: of a clergyman is humbly to ask God that all
- 22:13Speaker 1: he wants done in those whom He teaches may first
- 22:16Speaker 1: be fully and truly done in himself. Brother ministers, have
- 22:21Speaker 1: we the great Peace of God keeping our hearts and
- 22:24Speaker 1: minds by Christ Jesus from morning to night, from Sunday
- 22:28Speaker 1: to Saturday, in the pulpit, in the study, in the home,
- 22:32Speaker 1: in society, in the street, in our whole life. If not,
- 22:36Speaker 1: how can we preach it? God give every servant of
- 22:40Speaker 1: His in the ministry such an experience of the great
- 22:43Speaker 1: Peace of God ruling in his heart, that he may
- 22:46Speaker 1: be able to preach it in the power of the
- 22:47Speaker 1: Holy Ghost. Ask God to do so, and you workers,
- 22:53Speaker 1: It is an easy thing to come and talk about
- 22:55Speaker 1: the peace that has been made by the blood of Christ.
- 22:58Speaker 1: We praise God for that peace. But there is something
- 23:01Speaker 1: far deeper than that peace that was made by the
- 23:04Speaker 1: blood of the Cross. There is life ever kept in
- 23:07Speaker 1: the peace with God. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
- 23:12Speaker 1: whose mind is stayed upon thee Christian workers do pray.
- 23:17Speaker 1: It is not the hurry, It is not the worry.
- 23:20Speaker 1: It is not the study, not the running hither and thither,
- 23:23Speaker 1: the much talking and much working that will have effect
- 23:26Speaker 1: for eternity. But it is the great power of God.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And God's power is revealed in the world, not in
- 23:33Speaker 1: the earthquake so much, but in the still small voice.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Christian Workers, students, come, Let us offer our hearts to
- 23:42Speaker 1: God and ask him very humbly that his great peace
- 23:45Speaker 1: may have perfect possession of us. And if we feel
- 23:49Speaker 1: that we have not got it and it won't come,
- 23:51Speaker 1: or that we have lost it, let us pray, listen,
- 23:55Speaker 1: be anxious for nothing. Do go with every anxiety direct
- 24:00Speaker 1: to God, with praise, prayer and thanksgiving. Praise Him for
- 24:04Speaker 1: what He is going to do. But be anxious for nothing.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Let every foreboding anxiety drive you to God. Christian Workers,
- 24:13Speaker 1: let the great peace of God enter your hearts. To day,
- 24:17Speaker 1: do walk as examples of men into whom God has
- 24:20Speaker 1: poured his own peace. And let the humility and the lowliness,
- 24:24Speaker 1: and the meekness and the gentleness of Jesus Christ, the
- 24:27Speaker 1: Lamb of God, be the mark of your life. God
- 24:31Speaker 1: help us to that. Amen.
