- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Rider Podcast, where we bring you tips and inspiration each day to help you build habits for writing success.

- 0:22SPEAKER_00: So you're feeling tired, you're feeling a little bit discouraged.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: You're partway through the first draft of your book and it's not coming together as you'd like.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps you've already launched your book, but it's not getting the attention it deserves.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: You've spent what feels like every ounce of energy writing it, and now you're supposed to market it also?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: All this stuff kind of makes you want to give up sometimes, doesn't it?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's neither the first draft nor the book launch.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're just trying to get ahead with your blog post or a speech.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're in the middle of a big client project.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It could be a hundred different things that just make you want to put your head under the covers and go to sleep for the next hundred years or so.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: The point is your emotions are telling you to quit.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: They're telling you to give up.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: There's nobody pressuring you to keep going, and it would be easier if you just stop.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But before you give up, I want you to consider these questions.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Do you believe in what you're doing?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Do you feel a calling to write?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Have you impacted people with your writing before and you hope to do it again?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Does something within your heart come alive when you see your finished work on the screen or the page?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: If so, and if the answer is yes to any of those questions, then you've got to finish what you've started.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: In fact, I would say you have a moral obligation to keep on going.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: If you've been called to start something, you've also been called to finish it.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I think this is a really important principle.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So let me say this again.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: If you have been called to start something, you've also been called to finish it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So if you're tired and if you're frustrated or you're a little bit discouraged or you just want to quit, I want you to take a little bit of a breather and pace yourself and most importantly, give yourself some grace.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: But then get right back on the horse and keep on going.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: In the words of the great Winston Churchill, never, never, never, never give up.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And he was a guy who knew a thing or two about persistence.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So those are wide's words that we can definitely apply to all the writing projects that we're doing.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Think of a time in your life when you have quit something that was important to you.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: How did it make you feel when you quit?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And how did you feel later on that you quit that thing that you said was so important, but you never finished it?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Do you wish you had stuck with it?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: If so, think about that time and apply that feeling to what you're doing now.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: I promise you're going to be glad that you kept on going.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You know, one of the very best ways to keep on going and to keep being persistent in your writing is to get around a group of other writers who are on the same pathway as you, who get you, and who are there to support and inspire you on your writing journey.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm really excited about the upcoming Daily Writer Retreat happening on May 2nd through the 4th here in the St.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Louis area.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: You know, when you listen to podcasts and you read emails and books, and when you get on Zoom calls, all that stuff can be great, but there's nothing quite like being in a small group of other writers who are making their writing dreams come true by publishing books and building their business.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm so excited about this retreat.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: On May 2nd through the 4th, this is a Tuesday through a Thursday, we will gather in beautiful St.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Charles, Missouri, just outside of St.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Louis, in a historic home to help you take a giant leap as a writer.

- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Now I do want you to know this is a small retreat, and I've only got a handful of spots left, like three or four spots as of this recording.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I'm recording this actually on April the 14th on a Friday, so it may be even less by the time you hear this.
