Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Few numbers out this morning show our food and fiber
- 0:02Speaker 1: exports on track to break even the last records we set.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Dairy export revenue up sixteen percent to twenty seven billion,
- 0:08Speaker 1: record meat and wall up eight percent twelve point three billion,
- 0:12Speaker 1: record horticulture up nineteen percent to eight point five billion
- 0:15Speaker 1: on tractor hit sixty billion total for the first time.
- 0:17Speaker 1: This is for the year ending June. Projections forecast from
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Outlook for Primary Industries Report. Suma Katapeva is with
- 0:25Speaker 1: US Meat Industry Association SUMA. Good morning, Good morning, this
- 0:29Speaker 1: is great news.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Oh, it certainly is. It's very pleasing to see this
- 0:35Speaker 2: forecast uplift and eight percent is quite impressive to the
- 0:40Speaker 2: year end thirty June. So yeah, it's a good good
- 0:44Speaker 2: outlook for the sector and it's always you know, these
- 0:47Speaker 2: results reinforced that the red meat sector plays a really
- 0:51Speaker 2: crucial role in supporting New Zealand's economy, particularly in our
- 0:56Speaker 2: rural and regional community.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Who's buying our meat, our lock.
- 1:01Speaker 2: This year, we've seen growth and value to most of
- 1:03Speaker 2: our major export markets. There's been robust demand from New
- 1:07Speaker 2: Zealand beef and she'd meet from the United States a
- 1:10Speaker 2: significant increase in sheep meet volumes to the EU and
- 1:14Speaker 2: we're starting to see a good recovery and exports to
- 1:17Speaker 2: China as well.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Long may that continue because that's important obviously now one
- 1:22Speaker 1: of the things the government wants to do. And by
- 1:24Speaker 1: the way, the projection for sixty five billion by twenty
- 1:28Speaker 1: twenty nine means that this is expected to keep increasing.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But this idea that we will double the value of
- 1:34Speaker 1: exports in ten years, do you think it's doable?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Our? Look, I think it's a wonderful aspiration and from
- 1:42Speaker 2: our perspective, it is doable. We're doing all that we
- 1:45Speaker 2: can to lift the value of our products going into
- 1:49Speaker 2: export markets. We've got a robust strategy in place to
- 1:54Speaker 2: do that and we're working very closely to keep on
- 1:58Speaker 2: top of that and keep targeting our exports to those
- 2:02Speaker 2: high performing markets that are paying good export process.
- 2:05Speaker 1: What would product? What would be the thing getting in
- 2:07Speaker 1: the way. Is it just global demand and supply or
- 2:10Speaker 1: is there something in New Zealand. What's one thing the
- 2:12Speaker 1: government could do to make that job easier for you?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Oh? Look, I think the government is laser focused on
- 2:20Speaker 2: supporting the primary industry to grow and to continue to
- 2:23Speaker 2: be that economic engine for New Zealand. I've just been
- 2:28Speaker 2: at Field Days yesterday and the messages are really reassuring
- 2:33Speaker 2: about being right there next to the primary industries, helping
- 2:37Speaker 2: them to uplift productivity, value production, making sure that there
- 2:44Speaker 2: are no impediments, be they trade impediments or domestic regulatory
- 2:49Speaker 2: impediments that just add a necessary cost and frustration. So
- 2:53Speaker 2: I think the government is certainly focused on doing what
- 2:56Speaker 2: it can to support the.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Growth of this I appreciate your time this morning. That's
- 3:02Speaker 1: sum Katapeva, the Meat Industry Association. For more from Early
