- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So, I'm going to ask you a question today, are you normal?
- 0:34I have a lot of times that I've run into this with clients,
- 0:37where they'll say, hey, am I normal?
- 0:39Is this normal? Is this something normal?
- 0:42Should I be thinking this or acting this way or having a
- 0:44struggle with this? Or is it normal to fall back?
- 0:48I work so hard and then I slip a fall out of my patterns.
- 0:52This time of year, I'm happening having to be recording this in
- 0:55July. So how we're halfway through the
- 0:58year and this time of year tends to be be the time where things
- 1:01start to fall off the wheels on the bus, start to fall off, if
- 1:05you will, things start to go off the road and that typically is
- 1:09because we have gone through about half the Year, we're into
- 1:15summer months, summer months. Tend to be you know, the time
- 1:20where you want to slow down, you know I live down south so you
- 1:23have a sweet tea, you sit around you hang around, you're not
- 1:26necessarily in such a rush life tends to just Down.
- 1:31And so it's very organic and very natural that you want to do
- 1:36that. You want to just see other
- 1:38people resting, you want to go to the beach.
- 1:39You want to relax now, obviously, if you're in the
- 1:41other Hemisphere and you're listening to this, or you're in
- 1:43the Opposites, if you're in Australia.
- 1:45So these are not the months for you, but you get the point,
- 1:48you're supposed to use your summer months and thinking of
- 1:51this. But in any event, is it normal?
- 1:54This is the question we're focused on today, is it normal?
- 1:57So I'm going to pose another question back, what is Normal
- 2:00anymore. I mean I don't think we actually
- 2:03even have a normal anymore. I think everything is up for
- 2:07discussion and I think there's there are beautiful aspects to
- 2:11that as also there are definitely difficult things for
- 2:15us to kind of change within ourselves about that.
- 2:19Because when we ask a question, is this normal?
- 2:22We're actually putting that up against something that we
- 2:26believe to be normal. Not what somebody else says is
- 2:30normal. What we believe to be normal,
- 2:32and if we are running into somebody else's version of
- 2:34normal, or what gives them the right to say that's normal.
- 2:38So if you are, someone that has grown up in the country, let's
- 2:41say and your life has been completely where you are, you
- 2:47know, Grazie your own food, you're killing your own animals,
- 2:51to feed your family, you're harvesting, whatever it is that
- 2:55you're growing all year long, it is not normal for you to run to
- 2:59the grocery store every day. But if you're in the city, it's
- 3:02very normal for people to only go shopping when they're going
- 3:05to make a meal. They don't go and buy a month's
- 3:07worth of stuff and stock it, they run to the store
- 3:10frequently, so they're normal. If you ask that question, no,
- 3:13it's not normal. And this these kind of
- 3:17distinctions are layered upon one thing after another.
- 3:20After another. Is it normal to do laundry?
- 3:22Every day, is it normal for me to get angry with my children?
- 3:25Is it normal for me to get frustrated?
- 3:27We could normal ourselves to death.
- 3:30The point that I'm trying to make right now is you have to be
- 3:33really careful when you're in the process of deciding who's
- 3:37normal, you're measuring against.
- 3:39Now, my trick here is, I don't compete with anybody but myself,
- 3:43I don't compare myself to anybody but myself because
- 3:46anything other than that is dangerous.
- 3:49So is it normal for me to be acting a certain way?
- 3:52Is it normal for me to do laundry once a week or every
- 3:56day? Whatever it is?
- 3:57I can measure it against who I've been in the past.
- 4:00And and that's where you have to kind of circle, your focus and
- 4:04say. Well, what's normal for me?
- 4:07I'm going to measure myself and I'm going to take a benchmark.
- 4:10So this time of year, we often start to look back and we say
- 4:15well, I don't know, I'm off I'm so far off, this isn't normal,
- 4:18this isn't normal and we start to panic about things and you
- 4:23know the current state of the world gives us a moment to pause
- 4:27and put us in a place where we are all kind of Collectively
- 4:31saying oh my gosh, do I need to worry about this?
- 4:34Is this normal anyway. So what's so important right now
- 4:39is to figure out what your version of normal is what you
- 4:42are measuring yourself against you, nobody else just you.
- 4:47So if you've been working out like a crazy person ever since
- 4:50the beginning of the year and you've been very consistent and
- 4:52now you're off, you could say, hey, you know what?
- 4:55This is not my normal behavior. I don't like this.
- 4:59I want to get back to my normal. All Behavior or you could say,
- 5:02hey, my normal behavior is not healthy, and I no longer want to
- 5:05do this, it works both ways, but the trick to, this is not
- 5:10measuring against anybody else's version of normal.
- 5:14Can't begin to stress this enough.
- 5:16You compete with you, you compare to you.
- 5:21Took me years to get past this and even sometimes I still go I
- 5:25don't know. You know maybe I look at another
- 5:28person who I think is really successful and I have moments
- 5:33where I go wow I should have been doing this a long time ago
- 5:36or I could have done this or I could have done that and our I
- 5:39should be there and I'll have to stop myself and say nope, I
- 5:43don't know all the things that went into that process and I'm
- 5:47not going to compare myself to them.
- 5:49I'm not going to go down On that road.
- 5:51And I'm certainly not going to look at what's normal for them
- 5:54and say, is this normal for me? Because maybe their normal has
- 5:57doesn't have children and animals, and dogs, and 43
- 6:01chickens, and everything else, and it, but my normal does.
- 6:04So, I'm going to ask you guys to really consider this piece.
- 6:08Don't keep asking yourself and comparing it to other peoples,
- 6:12normal. Look at your own normal and, and
- 6:15figure out from there, what you want to keep, and what you want
- 6:18to get rid of. Because if you haven't figured
- 6:19it out yet, I'm Egon, getting rid of things that don't work.
- 6:22And I'm really big on focusing on the things that do work for
- 6:25you and repeating behaviors that work.
- 6:28So, I will see you guys tomorrow and work on that.
- 6:32You know, what is normal for me? Not, just, what is normal.
- 6:36All right guys, I'll see you soon.
- 6:37Bye.
