- 0:21Speaker 1: Please to be joined by Matt Viscursion.
- 0:23Speaker 2: The Brewers are on to the World Series. He is
- 0:26Speaker 2: part of MLB Network's post-game coverage. More importantly, post-season coverage,
- 0:30Speaker 2: excuse me.
- 0:31Speaker 1: More importantly... He is a monster Brewers fan.
- 0:34Speaker 2: He is here on behalf of the Milwaukee Brewers and
- 0:37Speaker 2: their fan base who have finally made it to a
- 0:39Speaker 2: World Series.
- 0:40Speaker 1: What did it feel like last night sweeping the Dodgers, Matt?
- 0:43Speaker 3: I mean, look, you know, there were so many firsts
- 0:47Speaker 3: in this series. Never before has a team that's been
- 0:51Speaker 3: swept come back to sweep the same team. Um, never
- 0:57Speaker 3: before has a team played from behind and won four
- 1:01Speaker 3: straight and come back fashion to finish a sweep. It was,
- 1:04Speaker 3: it was ecstasy. It was everything, man. I mean, you
- 1:07Speaker 3: talk about all tortured fan base. Holy cow. I worked
- 1:10Speaker 3: there in the late nineties when they were still playing
- 1:12Speaker 3: at County stadium, when the place was completely dilapidated, it
- 1:16Speaker 3: was falling apart. There were tile showers and drains everywhere.
- 1:22Speaker 3: in the floors of a quote unquote executives offices, because
- 1:25Speaker 3: they used to be ancillary changing rooms for when the
- 1:28Speaker 3: Packers would play three home games a year at County stadium.
- 1:32Speaker 3: It was bootleg central and, you know, Miller park came
- 1:36Speaker 3: in 2001. It cleaned things up a little bit, but
- 1:38Speaker 3: they still weren't very good as a, as a baseball team.
- 1:42Speaker 3: This is, I mean, this is like the best era
- 1:45Speaker 3: of Brewers baseball ever winning consecutive division titles and, Beating
- 1:49Speaker 3: the Cubs last year in the division series and Craig
- 1:52Speaker 3: Council after, you know, leaving the Brewers because he didn't
- 1:55Speaker 3: think he was going to get a chance to win
- 1:57Speaker 3: a World Series there. It's pretty amazing. And to do
- 2:01Speaker 3: it against a beast like the Dodgers.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I mean, you know, if they hadn't swept them, by
- 2:06Speaker 3: the way, they were going to have to run the
- 2:07Speaker 3: gauntlet again of Scooble, Yamamoto, Snell, and Glasnow.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:12Speaker 3: It was important for them to sweep them. Right.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well, they played like they knew that, right? I mean.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:17Speaker 1: They really did.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Put us there when Otani hits the home run. Did
- 2:20Speaker 2: your confidence waver at all?
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mean. Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I mean, a little bit just because you're always afraid
- 2:27Speaker 3: of something like that. When the best player on the
- 2:29Speaker 3: planet gets it back, you're afraid it's going to be sustained.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:33Speaker 3: It wasn't. He looked terrible this series, man. He looked
- 2:35Speaker 3: terrible for a month and a half. I get it.
- 2:37Speaker 3: He hit a big homer yesterday. It was glorious for
- 2:40Speaker 3: them for one fleeting moment. He was not himself. And
- 2:44Speaker 3: if you take the best player off of any team,
- 2:46Speaker 3: we saw it with the Yankees without Aaron Judge, they're
- 2:49Speaker 3: a different team. We all thought the Dodgers were deep
- 2:51Speaker 3: enough to sustain the a lesser version of Otani.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Turns out, you know, they weren't.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Brian Anderson was on with us the other day, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: he said that Milwaukee is starving for their baseball team
- 3:04Speaker 2: to make it to the World Series, that it would
- 3:06Speaker 2: be bigger than the Packers making it to a Super Bowl.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Is he right? I mean, that seems ridiculous. I love B.A.
- 3:14Speaker 1: He's a homer.
- 3:14Speaker 3: We go way back.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Call him a homer.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'll gently push back on the Packers, Tom, because.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I mean, Packers football is a way of life there.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I got a son who's 12 years old. He's an
- 3:25Speaker 3: honorary cheeser. He's somehow a Packers fan. He likes the Brewers.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:29Speaker 3: He loves the Packers. And I think that's kind of
- 3:32Speaker 3: how it goes out there. Although, you know, look, you
- 3:35Speaker 3: could make a case that B.A.
- 3:36Speaker 1: 's right.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Forty four years between World Series appearances.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 3: It's a long time, man.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And Packer fans have had success. And so, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 2: the Brewers were last in the World Series. They've had
- 3:47Speaker 2: a lot of it right with Favre, with Rod.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Maybe he is right. Maybe BA is right. We should
- 3:52Speaker 1: apologize to Brian Anderson.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Yeah, he could be on to something here. I think
- 3:56Speaker 3: it's an interesting contrast, too, when you think about the
- 3:59Speaker 3: Brewers of 82, unshaven, uncouth, unapologetic. They ran it hard.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Their post-game curriculum was just as involved as their in-game curriculum,
- 4:15Speaker 3: if you know what I mean.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Oh, yes, of course.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And it was kind of I think symptomatic of how
- 4:20Speaker 3: baseball was different back then too. There were a lot
- 4:22Speaker 3: of rough and tumble teams in the early eighties.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:25Speaker 3: And now because of social media and whatever else is happening,
- 4:28Speaker 3: advanced training and the, you know, the dollar signs that
- 4:32Speaker 3: are on these contracts, guys go back to their hotel rooms.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Now they play video games. Right. That's what they do.
- 4:38Speaker 3: They don't go out and run around like the 82 Brewers.
- 4:39Speaker 1: No, Gorman Thomas wasn't doing that. Oh, no.
- 4:44Speaker 3: No, no. Gorman was up to many things. I know
- 4:48Speaker 3: Gorman pretty well. I mean, that's a docu-series waiting to happen.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Somebody's missing out.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm on it. Go ahead, Mikey.
- 4:58Speaker 4: It felt like there was a lot more riding on
- 5:01Speaker 4: this series than just who was going to the World Series.
- 5:03Speaker 4: It felt like this is going to factor into labor
- 5:06Speaker 4: negotiations with how much the Dodgers are this beast of
- 5:11Speaker 4: spending all the money in the Milwaukee as a low,
- 5:14Speaker 4: as a, you know, as a, as a bottom team,
- 5:17Speaker 4: when it comes to payroll, how much did you think
- 5:20Speaker 4: is going to change now that the big, bad Dodgers
- 5:23Speaker 4: are out?
- 5:24Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, you could make that case, Mike. And
- 5:26Speaker 3: there were a lot of people that were trying to
- 5:28Speaker 3: build that narrative yesterday, even after the post game. I mean,
- 5:31Speaker 3: Dave Roberts is, is within 15 minutes of this gut-wrenching
- 5:36Speaker 3: series sweep, and you have people asking him in his presser,
- 5:41Speaker 3: can something good come out of this for baseball? He's like, no,
- 5:46Speaker 3: not for me. I manage the Dodgers.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I just got swept, yes.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I do get the question, though. I mean, I don't
- 5:56Speaker 3: think at the end of the day it's going to
- 5:57Speaker 3: change things. But you could certainly draw those lines. Look,
- 6:01Speaker 3: the small market guys, and we're talking about a payroll,
- 6:04Speaker 3: roughly a third of what the Dodgers spent this year.
- 6:07Speaker 3: The Brewers are under $ 100 million. But beyond the luxury
- 6:11Speaker 3: tax numbers, the Dodgers were close to a $ 400 million payroll,
- 6:16Speaker 3: which is crazy. Advocates of the small market team who
- 6:22Speaker 3: want a salary cap to even the playing field, They'd
- 6:26Speaker 3: look at this and say, all right, look, it happened
- 6:28Speaker 3: without a salary cap. Davey slayed Goliath without a salary cap.
- 6:33Speaker 3: So I think you could look at it from any lens,
- 6:36Speaker 3: whatever you're predisposed to believing and think that it might
- 6:40Speaker 3: impact things. I think just as interesting is the TV deal, right?
- 6:43Speaker 3: Fox didn't get the Dodgers. Fox didn't get the Yankees.
- 6:47Speaker 3: They might be looking at a Ray's Brewers or a
- 6:50Speaker 3: Guardian's Brewers.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I mean, you know, sales guys are going to have
- 6:55Speaker 3: to work.
- 6:55Speaker 1: A little harder, I think. A lot harder. Not a little,
- 6:59Speaker 1: a lot. It's a tough sell, man.
- 7:01Speaker 3: It is.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It is interesting, though.
- 7:03Speaker 2: The Brewers will go from being the underdog against the Dodgers.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I'm not certain they should have been, but they were.
- 7:08Speaker 2: The underdogs against the Dodgers, they're going to be, I think, unless, well,
- 7:11Speaker 2: maybe Tampa, you would tell me, prohibitive favorites over whoever
- 7:15Speaker 2: they play in the world series.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Is that fair? They should be the favorites. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I think so.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I think they're going to be favored. I think what
- 7:20Speaker 3: they just did at the Dodgers installs them as favorite,
- 7:22Speaker 3: by the way, I looked at, cause I'm curious about
- 7:25Speaker 3: such things. What would, if somebody had, you know, taken
- 7:29Speaker 3: their $ 10 on one of the sites and, and bet
- 7:32Speaker 3: on the Brewers to sweep the Dodgers.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:36Speaker 3: What would you have guessed that number should have been?
- 7:38Speaker 2: Wow, so you're betting $ 10? I'm guessing you win.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah, just tell me, what do you think the number
- 7:43Speaker 3: should have been on the shop?
- 7:44Speaker 2: On a sweep. I'm guessing you win, like, I don't know.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I'm just guessing $ 50, 000. That's what it should have been.
- 7:54Speaker 3: It was plus $ 2, 200. Wow. For a Brewers sweep. That's crap.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Shocking.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Like, you know how... unlikely that would have been last week.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And you're going to give me plus 2200.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Keep it. That is chicken shit.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Odds making. Can I say that? Odds making?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 8:13Speaker 3: It's a terrible number.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It really is. Will Bowers ever buy a drink in
- 8:18Speaker 1: Milwaukee again? No, sir. No, sir.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And you know, you could have, and this is what
- 8:24Speaker 3: a great team when it was, you could have made
- 8:26Speaker 3: a case for three different dudes to be MVP.
- 8:28Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Four. Cause I'll put Aaron Ashby in there too. I mean,
- 8:32Speaker 3: dude didn't allow a run.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Bowers, Mitchell, Garrett Mitchell. How do you not love this guy?
- 8:38Speaker 3: He plays with a, with a diabetes pump on him.
- 8:41Speaker 3: He had his shoulder blown apart two years ago. Nicest kid.
- 8:45Speaker 3: And again, homers against elite left-handers in back-to-back games.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Insane.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Holy cow.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yes. Insane. Guys who don't give up home runs ever.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, just nuts. Go ahead, Mike.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Uh, I'm going to ask you to turn off the
- 9:00Speaker 4: sports commentator and put on the fan hat. Who are
- 9:04Speaker 4: you hoping for in the world series?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Who do you want? Who do you want?
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to, I want to raise because there
- 9:09Speaker 3: are two teams that play similarly, uh, you know, high
- 9:13Speaker 3: contact rate teams, um, Also, as a I don't know,
- 9:18Speaker 3: maybe as a commentator, I'd want to raise even more
- 9:20Speaker 3: because if I'm traveling, I want to be in a
- 9:22Speaker 3: climate controlled dome. I don't want to deal with Cleveland
- 9:25Speaker 3: in late October. I mean, it's going to rain again
- 9:27Speaker 3: there today.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I think they're going to get the Trump isn't better.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I mean, you're choosing the Trump. I can't believe it.
- 9:32Speaker 3: I don't mind the Trump. Maybe I'm the one guy.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I don't mind it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: What do you like about it?
- 9:40Speaker 3: The new roof has made all the difference in day games.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I know in night games it still looks a little mausoleum-ish,
- 9:45Speaker 3: but I just like the convenience of it. Nobody wants
- 9:49Speaker 3: to be in Tampa St. Pete outdoors for those six months,
- 9:52Speaker 3: so I don't mind the place.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And the roof, right. And the roof out.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think I want the raise as a fan.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I just want to see that matchup. I also want
- 10:01Speaker 3: to see, I mean, two of my favorite players to
- 10:03Speaker 3: watch in baseball are Yandy Diaz and junior Caminero. And
- 10:07Speaker 3: I want, I want to see them on a world
- 10:09Speaker 3: series stage.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:10Speaker 2: How'd you celebrate last night? Was there any sort of celebration, friends, anything, family,
- 10:15Speaker 2: or you sleeping by 12?
- 10:16Speaker 3: I mean, I was working last night. And, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 3: we start our MLB Network postgame show after the trophy ceremony.
- 10:23Speaker 3: So the buzz kind of wears off. But I also
- 10:26Speaker 3: the no cheering in the press box rule was completely
- 10:29Speaker 3: obscured last night for me. I was running around with
- 10:33Speaker 3: this sweatshirt, full colors, go Brewers, and not even apologizing.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Nor should you, because I have said for, I don't know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: 10 years now, the second that Michael Wilbon was covering
- 10:47Speaker 2: the Cubs for ESPN wearing a Cubs jersey was the
- 10:49Speaker 2: second journalism died.
- 10:54Speaker 3: That's pretty good time date stamp. Yeah, look, if Wilbon
- 10:59Speaker 3: can do it, the rest of us can do it, right?
- 11:01Speaker 3: When a guy that big is able to break the ceiling,
- 11:03Speaker 3: then the schmuck-level guys like me, it doesn't matter what
- 11:06Speaker 3: I wear.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I'm wondering, because Mikey A and I are Jet fans,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and we just want to get to a Super Bowl,
- 11:11Speaker 2: and I imagine if we ever, don't laugh at us,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I imagine that if we ever got to a Super Bowl,
- 11:16Speaker 2: what it would feel like if we actually, would that
- 11:18Speaker 2: be enough for me, just getting to the Super Bowl?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Will getting to the World Series be enough for Brewer fans?
- 11:24Speaker 3: No, I don't think so.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You know, because they've been bridesmaids for so long. I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 3: in whether it's an LCS division series and let's face it.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like we're older guys.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I remember the 82 Brewers pretty well. And when I
- 11:37Speaker 3: was looking around last weekend in Milwaukee, just kind of
- 11:41Speaker 3: scanning the stands. Maybe one in every 30 fans would
- 11:46Speaker 3: have been around long enough with enough skin in the
- 11:48Speaker 3: game to remember Gorman Thomas and Cecil Cooper and Ben
- 11:52Speaker 3: Ogilvie and Pete Vukovic. You know, it's a whole new
- 11:54Speaker 3: generation of fan. And congratulations on the Brewers for graduating
- 11:59Speaker 3: new classes of fans because not every franchise is able
- 12:02Speaker 3: to do that. Right. But I don't think just getting
- 12:05Speaker 3: there is enough. I think they know they're the best
- 12:06Speaker 3: team in baseball and they want to win it all.
- 12:09Speaker 3: They have the best record in the sport for two
- 12:11Speaker 3: straight years. You've got to take home the ring now. Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Uh, hard not to think about Bob Euchre last night, huh?
- 12:17Speaker 2: I mean, just how much he would have enjoyed this, right?
- 12:19Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, he would have enjoyed that's for sure.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He would have enjoyed it. Um, you know, I'm not
- 12:24Speaker 3: sure how, cause you was not, everybody always thinks that
- 12:27Speaker 3: Euchre was like, you know, always on the, Mr. Baseball
- 12:31Speaker 3: just shooting one-liners off like Henny Youngman. He was not that.
- 12:36Speaker 3: There were times when Bob was pissed off. There were
- 12:39Speaker 3: times when Bob was acerbic. But let me tell you,
- 12:42Speaker 3: when he wanted to be funnier, there was nobody as.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Funny as him. I love it. So this is the best.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I'm guessing this has to be the best baseball has
- 12:51Speaker 2: ever made you feel, right?
- 12:52Speaker 1: I mean, we're here.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Man, you know, that's probably true. I'm from Oakland. I'm
- 12:59Speaker 3: a long-suffering Oakland A's fan. As soon as they went
- 13:01Speaker 3: to Vegas, I was out. Or Sacramento, whatever the waypoint
- 13:04Speaker 3: is now. But I don't really remember the last of
- 13:09Speaker 3: the three straight World Series in 75. I was nine.
- 13:13Speaker 3: I can't say that I remember how that felt. But, yeah,
- 13:16Speaker 3: this feels good on a lot of levels. Back to
- 13:18Speaker 3: the economic part of it, you know, it's nice to
- 13:20Speaker 3: see a smaller market team with a chance to win
- 13:23Speaker 3: it all now. They beat the Dodgers. The Brewers fan base, long-suffering.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I just never thought I'd see the day, honestly, even
- 13:30Speaker 3: in the last few years, even as recently as this year,
- 13:33Speaker 3: you're thinking, all right, best regular season team in baseball again.
- 13:36Speaker 3: And they're going to get punked by the Dodgers super rotation.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Think about who they beat, man.
- 13:41Speaker 1: It's incredible.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yes. That's amazing.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Nell and Yamamoto. I mean, yeah. And they were about
- 13:48Speaker 1: to face him again, but they don't have to, which
- 13:49Speaker 1: is great.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Yeah, $ 400 million payroll. They went out and got Scooble,
- 13:54Speaker 3: and we all said, oh, this is a joke. Right.
- 13:56Speaker 3: This is a joke. Like, they're going to win three more.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Yes, but I think that's what Mikey was talking about.
- 14:00Speaker 2: The team that didn't trade for Scooble because they can't
- 14:02Speaker 2: and they won't beat the team that traded for Scooble
- 14:05Speaker 2: because they can. They have an embarrassment of riches. And
- 14:07Speaker 2: so I think it does, larger picture, it has to
- 14:09Speaker 2: change something. in terms of negotiations here for baseball.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Sure hope so. I mean, I like the proposal that
- 14:15Speaker 3: the league's put out. I don't want to sound like
- 14:16Speaker 3: a mole for the league, but I do like the
- 14:19Speaker 3: 154 that they've proposed. Everybody's off on Monday. More postseason games.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Players Association has to look at that and be like, okay,
- 14:27Speaker 3: they got something there. They still don't want a cap.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I get it. But what the league has put out,
- 14:33Speaker 3: I think, is real good.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Matt, a lot of people, as you know, started watching
- 14:37Speaker 2: baseball during the postseason, so they're not familiar with this
- 14:39Speaker 2: Brewers team. It was so impressive to see them. They
- 14:43Speaker 2: were down in all four of these games and came
- 14:46Speaker 2: back to win. Is that representative of what this team
- 14:48Speaker 2: has been doing the entire season?
- 14:51Speaker 3: It is actually. It's crazy to say that, but you know,
- 14:53Speaker 3: think of what they did in San Diego to beat
- 14:55Speaker 3: the Brewers in the division series.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:57Speaker 3: All but one of those wins was a come from
- 14:59Speaker 3: behind win.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So what allows that to happen? Unwavering confidence as a
- 15:05Speaker 3: lineup and a really good bullpen because if one guy
- 15:09Speaker 3: cracks it's over yes and there were probably people yesterday
- 15:12Speaker 3: who after the home run allowed by dustin may they
- 15:15Speaker 3: were like ah see the brewers bullpen's about to be
- 15:17Speaker 3: exposed now for four straight games wasn't the case man
- 15:20Speaker 3: that group was good it's anonymous they don't have any
- 15:23Speaker 3: stars down there they don't have any big you know
- 15:26Speaker 3: uh household name players But D.L. Hall, Aaron Ashby, Trevor McGill, again,
- 15:34Speaker 3: you know, your late fans not going to know who
- 15:36Speaker 3: those dudes are, but they're really good and they're hot
- 15:39Speaker 3: right now, too.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And Pat Murphy really seems to embody that city. Like
- 15:42Speaker 2: the fans love him.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I mean, I mean, he's like I've called it. I've
- 15:47Speaker 3: called him this before. He's like America's favorite uncle.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 15:50Speaker 3: You know, he's the crazy uncle that show up. He'll
- 15:54Speaker 3: be late. He'll he won't wouldn't have brought the right.
- 15:57Speaker 3: a housewarming gift, and you'll love him anyway. They've responded
- 16:03Speaker 3: to him, man. I mean, he was 23 years old
- 16:07Speaker 3: when the Brewers were in the World Series in 82.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Crazy.
- 16:09Speaker 3: He was a boy, and now he's the guy. Think
- 16:12Speaker 3: about this, too. Craig Council hires him as his bench
- 16:17Speaker 3: coach after he had a whiff of a managerial run
- 16:20Speaker 3: in San Diego. Council brings him in. Council becomes the Brewers'
- 16:24Speaker 3: all-time winningest manager. He's from Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He's a local.
- 16:27Speaker 3: His dad used to run season tickets for the Brewers
- 16:30Speaker 3: back in the 80s.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Wow.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Craig decides that he's never going to win there. Cubs
- 16:34Speaker 3: back up a truck and give him a bunch of money.
- 16:37Speaker 3: He goes south to the Cubs. Murph gets the job,
- 16:39Speaker 3: and now Murph has won manager of the year back-to-back seasons,
- 16:44Speaker 3: and he's four wins away from a World Series title.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes. You love him. You're giddy.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Matt Vizcarra is a giddy, happy Milwaukee Brewer fan today
- 16:54Speaker 2: who is cheering in the clubhouse. And I am so
- 16:57Speaker 2: proud of you for doing so. Congratulations to you. Check
- 16:59Speaker 2: him out.
- 17:00Speaker 1: MLB Network.
- 17:01Speaker 2: He'll be part of the World Series coverage as well,
- 17:04Speaker 2: of course, here moving forward.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I can rattle off 80s brewers with you all day.
- 17:08Speaker 1: We could do it another day. But Jim Gantner, Moose Haas,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I could do it all day with you, man.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Oh, I love it. There are too many Jim Gantner
- 17:15Speaker 3: stories for one episode of your show. But I'll just
- 17:18Speaker 3: give you this one.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Jim Gantner was the first base coach in 97– And
- 17:26Speaker 3: one of the signs that the Brewers had on the
- 17:29Speaker 3: corners with the coaches was to blink to put a
- 17:32Speaker 3: bunt play on or not. Gant would wear his sunglasses
- 17:36Speaker 3: and blink and not understand why the guys at the
- 17:40Speaker 3: plate weren't getting the bunt sign put on. He's the
- 17:43Speaker 3: same guy also who on a road trip to Toronto
- 17:49Speaker 3: was not, he got stopped at the border and and
- 17:53Speaker 3: had to wait for a whole day where his clearance
- 17:57Speaker 3: had to check through and told everybody that he didn't
- 17:59Speaker 3: get into Canada because he forgot his gift certificate. This
- 18:03Speaker 3: is Jim Gantner at the peak of his power. Forgot
- 18:06Speaker 3: my gift certificate.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It happens. He's beautiful.
- 18:10Speaker 3: He's a beautiful man.
- 18:11Speaker 1: All right, Matt, get out of here. All right, guys.
- 18:14Speaker 1: We appreciate the time.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Congratulations to you, to the city of Milwaukee, to the
- 18:18Speaker 2: Brewers fans. And to the team, man, I know it's
- 18:21Speaker 2: an exciting day for you guys.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Cheers guys.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Thanks. Thanks for doing this, man. Appreciate it.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Our thanks to Matt discursion for joining us there. Tell
- 18:40Speaker 2: let's wrap up the week the way we always do.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Let's update the polls. That's two got seven 90 on X.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Give me the music.
- 18:49Speaker 1: This is great music. It's so good. Porn music. What?
- 18:53Speaker 1: It feels like porn music. It does. It does. You
- 18:59Speaker 1: know what? I'm not going to ask.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I think you're watching different stuff.
- 19:02Speaker 1: What porn are you watching? A lot.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Like, is this clown stuff?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Don't want to know the answer. I said a lot.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That's all I said.
- 19:14Speaker 2: No more details. Anyway, Ed's still got 790. I don't
- 19:17Speaker 2: know if I can continue.
- 19:19Speaker 1: No, I don't want to continue. Can we just end?
- 19:22Speaker 1: Can that just be the show now? Put it on
- 19:25Speaker 1: the poll, Taylor.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Does the music behind this segment sound like porn music?
- 19:30Speaker 1: No. Put that on the poll for next week, please.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Go ahead, Taylor.
- 19:36Speaker 5: First poll, should the Jaguars holder be in MVP conversations today?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yes. 1,000%. Yes.
- 19:44Speaker 5: You know, for as much as I've said that this week,
- 19:46Speaker 5: I've never looked up who the actual holder is. like
- 19:48Speaker 5: i didn't i didn't care no why.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Would you his last name is holder.
- 19:53Speaker 5: I mean 84.9 percent of the audience said yes he
- 19:57Speaker 5: should be in.
- 19:57Speaker 1: The mvp conversation all right good audience big one.
- 20:00Speaker 5: For mikey a Should Nick Sirianni send Dan Quinn flowers today?
- 20:07Speaker 5: All the heat was on Sirianni.
- 20:09Speaker 1: He took the steam off of him, yes.
- 20:10Speaker 5: Sirianni was the joke in the NFL for two hours,
- 20:13Speaker 5: and then Dan Quinn and Jaden Daniels said, don't worry,
- 20:16Speaker 5: we've got you from here.
- 20:17Speaker 1: We've got the rest of the week. We got this.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Go ahead and take the week.
- 20:21Speaker 5: We got you. 93.6% of the audience said yes, Dan
- 20:26Speaker 5: Quinn or Nick Sirianni should send Dan Quinn flowers.
- 20:31Speaker 4: I'd love if they actually did it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yes. He might have. Maybe. Never know. A little text maybe.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Same thing. Flower emoji. Sure.
- 20:40Speaker 5: Did everybody see that tie coming from a mile away?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Yep. How could you not? 78.7% of the audience said yes.
- 20:47Speaker 1: All right. We saw that tie coming from a mile away.
- 20:52Speaker 1: All righty.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Big one here for the Jets and Giants.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Is there a dark cloud permanently over MetLife Stadium?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Yep, there is.
- 21:09Speaker 5: It's the only way to describe why it rains every
- 21:13Speaker 5: week there.
- 21:14Speaker 4: It's both a figurative and a literal thing that's happening
- 21:17Speaker 4: right now over MetLife.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Is that where the Army-Navy game is?
- 21:20Speaker 3: Yep.
- 21:21Speaker 1: More respect for the troops. I mean, seriously, we're sending
- 21:23Speaker 1: them to a dump. T-Y-F-Y-S.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:25Speaker 5: 96.4% of the audience said there's always a dark cloud
- 21:32Speaker 5: permanently over MetLife Stadium.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Yep, a green one.
- 21:37Speaker 5: You don't realize how bad you need a long snapper
- 21:39Speaker 5: until it's time to need a long snapper.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Yes, 100%.
- 21:44Speaker 5: This is about as close to 100% as I think
- 21:46Speaker 5: these polls could get.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:48Speaker 5: 97.4% of the audience said yes.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Right. I mean, the 2.6, really. I was going to say,
- 21:54Speaker 1: you just live a little. Live. Yes.
- 21:59Speaker 5: This is a big one for us from the college
- 22:02Speaker 5: football show with Bear.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Yep.
- 22:04Speaker 5: Can you say you love college football if you scheduled
- 22:07Speaker 5: a flight during Georgia-Alabama?
- 22:09Speaker 1: That was my poll question. I was shocked by it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: We were all shocked by it. If you love college football,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you've got to change that flight.
- 22:18Speaker 5: I still don't understand the logic behind flying during that time.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I can give you the logic.
- 22:23Speaker 5: His wife wants him home?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Marriage, yes. Yeah, marriage.
- 22:27Speaker 5: I think that's one where you just have to say, like,
- 22:29Speaker 5: got called into a meeting Saturday night. We just have
- 22:33Speaker 5: to take the first flight out Sunday.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Just lie. You can't miss.
- 22:37Speaker 5: You cannot miss Georgia-Alabama kickoff.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Mikey, he doesn't realize he's not married. He's single. He'll
- 22:43Speaker 1: realize one day, hopefully. They know when you're lying every
- 22:46Speaker 1: single time. They just know. You're better off just saying, listen, Alabama-Georgia,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I've got to watch it. I can't miss it. I'm
- 22:51Speaker 1: the bear. It's work. Yes, it is work. Yes. Anyway,
- 22:56Speaker 1: keep going.
- 22:56Speaker 5: He was in a race to get home to watch
- 22:58Speaker 5: the Jets on Sunday?
- 22:59Speaker 1: He was in a race to get home to make
- 23:00Speaker 1: his wife happy. That's it.
- 23:02Speaker 5: It's not a good sign when you get outcoached by
- 23:04Speaker 5: Lincoln Riley.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 23:06Speaker 4: You didn't give us the up.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yes, that's right.
- 23:09Speaker 5: 76.3% of the audience said no. Bear cannot say he
- 23:11Speaker 5: loves college football anymore.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Poor Bear.
- 23:14Speaker 5: He's going to have to earn his college football card back.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Matt Campbell in Penn State. It's not a good sign
- 23:20Speaker 5: when you get outcoached by Lincoln Riley. In the wideout game.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I mean, Matt Campbell wouldn't be at Penn State if
- 23:26Speaker 2: we had a 2014 playoff 10 years ago because James
- 23:29Speaker 2: Franklin would be on the Mount Rushmore of Penn State coaches.
- 23:31Speaker 5: James Franklin would never give up that spot at Penn State.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I wonder how many times Iowa State would have won
- 23:36Speaker 4: it with Matt Campbell.
- 23:38Speaker 1: They would have been in a bunch.
- 23:39Speaker 2: They've been a top 2014 consistently like the last eight years.
- 23:43Speaker 5: 81.4% of the audience said yes, it's not a good
- 23:48Speaker 5: sign when Lincoln Riley outcoaches you.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Big one here for Sean McVay.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:56Speaker 5: Is the answer to your problems.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Hold on. Okay.
- 24:00Speaker 5: Is the answer to your problems ever on the Jets
- 24:03Speaker 5: practice squad?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Cut his kicker and sign one off the Jets practice squad.
- 24:08Speaker 2: That answer should be a resounding no.
- 24:11Speaker 1: By the way, just a quick update.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Twice in the last five years, Iowa State would have.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Been in the league. I had him eight years consecutive.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Rocco Beckton, those boys.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Thanks for looking it up. But still, I mean, Matt Campbell.
- 24:24Speaker 2: First off, that Penn State job's not available.
- 24:26Speaker 1: That's a larger point.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Correct.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Because James Franklin would have gotten in every single year.
- 24:31Speaker 5: James Franklin might be at LSU.
- 24:34Speaker 1: He would have been a hotter commodity than Lane Gibbon.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Might have. That's funny.
- 24:40Speaker 5: Uh, 89.1% of the audience said, no, the answer to
- 24:44Speaker 5: your problems is never on the jets practice squad. This
- 24:48Speaker 5: one is from, from me. Can you say an Owen
- 24:51Speaker 5: five team is better than their record? Who was I
- 24:55Speaker 5: talking about?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Uh, boy, let's look up at the Titans.
- 25:00Speaker 5: I said the Titans are better than their own five record.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yes, you did.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Uh, I think all the own five teams are better
- 25:05Speaker 5: than their record. The dolphins are for sure.
- 25:08Speaker 1: No, they're not. I don't think so.
- 25:10Speaker 3: No.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Dolphins are in every game. What does the poll say? 61.3%
- 25:15Speaker 5: of the audience said no. You cannot say that. Felt
- 25:19Speaker 5: like the audience betrayed me there.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you can't say it. I'm with the audience.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Maybe you betrayed the audience. Yes.
- 25:27Speaker 5: This is one for Stu Gatz because yesterday, Mikey, when
- 25:30Speaker 5: we were talking about what topics we had, Stu Gatz said, Hey,
- 25:34Speaker 5: I have more on Kelly Clarkson if we need it.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I have been fascinated by this story, man.
- 25:40Speaker 5: The poll question is, would you recognize Kelly Clarkson out
- 25:45Speaker 5: in public? I said I would, but now that I'm
- 25:49Speaker 5: thinking about it, and I saw the footage that Pablo
- 25:53Speaker 5: Torre finds out got, I don't think I would have
- 25:56Speaker 5: recognized Kelly Clarkson from any other white woman walking around Brooklyn.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 26:01Speaker 4: I think you would have said that kind of looks
- 26:03Speaker 4: like Kelly Clarkson, but you would not have been sure.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I ran into Doug Flutie at Disney World and told
- 26:10Speaker 4: him he looks just like Doug Flutie.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:12Speaker 5: Did he say I am Doug Flutie?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Sometimes. He did not. He did not. He played it off.
- 26:16Speaker 1: He laughed. Really? He laughed.
- 26:18Speaker 4: He goes, yeah, I get that. And then I noticed
- 26:21Speaker 4: that he was wearing a Buffalo Bills like training camp T-shirt.
- 26:24Speaker 1: That's on you. Yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Hey, I was like 17.
- 26:28Speaker 2: He wasn't all jacked up on that testosterone that him
- 26:30Speaker 2: and Frank Thomas do?
- 26:32Speaker 1: Not yet. Not yet. He didn't need it yet.
- 26:36Speaker 4: He was in the period where he was going to
- 26:37Speaker 4: need it.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Eugenics.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Sponsor the show.
- 26:44Speaker 1: We love eugenics.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And we love testosterone. If they sponsor the show. Let's
- 26:49Speaker 2: be very clear. We love testosterone.
- 26:52Speaker 1: All right? And the Big Hurt. And Doug Flutie. And Eugenics. Anyway.
- 26:59Speaker 4: I can't say that with the porn music playing.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Oh, yes. See? You're coming around. No, I'm not. You
- 27:09Speaker 1: call the porn music.
- 27:10Speaker 4: I was reminding you of how bad that take was.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Stu, this is a problem that I feel like a
- 27:15Speaker 5: lot of people are having now when it comes to sponsors.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Where yesterday I was watching one of Big Cat's shows
- 27:21Speaker 5: from Barstool.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And.
- 27:23Speaker 5: He was talking about how bad Milk Duds are, and like,
- 27:26Speaker 5: you know how you know when you eat a Milk
- 27:27Speaker 5: Dud when you're still chewing it? a week later, and
- 27:30Speaker 5: he was saying how terrible they are.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I had no idea they were sponsoring the show. Hershey's.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Hershey's is sponsored. They own the brand.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I mean, the guy's on so many shows talking on
- 27:40Speaker 2: so many different platforms.
- 27:42Speaker 1: He has no idea who's sponsoring what, and it happens.
- 27:45Speaker 5: And somebody else from the show, one of the guys
- 27:48Speaker 5: you were on Wake Up Barstool with, Nick, said, at
- 27:50Speaker 5: a certain point, we're just not allowed to have opinions anymore.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Right. Yes. You've been compromised. The entire industry. I said
- 27:57Speaker 1: it when Diana Rossini happened. We're all compromised. All of us.
- 28:01Speaker 5: If Milk Duds wants to sponsor us, we.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Love Milk Duds. We love Hershey's. Oh, yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Shocking that Milk Duds is a Hershey product. Because of
- 28:13Speaker 5: how bad they are.
- 28:15Speaker 1: But we love Milk Duds.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Or good, depending on the sponsorship.
- 28:18Speaker 1: We love Hershey's.
- 28:21Speaker 5: So where are you at in the Kelly Clarkson story, Stu?
- 28:24Speaker 5: You're on the store side. I'm clearly on the store side.
- 28:27Speaker 1: You're on the store side?
- 28:28Speaker 5: I think what Kelly Clarkson did running to social media
- 28:31Speaker 5: and weaponizing her social media following, like Kelly Clarkson knows
- 28:35Speaker 5: what she's doing there when she's complaining to the store, uh,
- 28:37Speaker 5: complaining to social media that people are just going to
- 28:40Speaker 5: attack the store.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:41Speaker 5: She basically sent like 14 million people online to be like,
- 28:45Speaker 5: go get this store.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a problem.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Well, if the store didn't treat her correctly, is it
- 28:51Speaker 2: a problem? I, people do it all the time with airlines, right?
- 28:55Speaker 1: True. I've done it.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Good point.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 5: So you're on Kelly Clarkson.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Well, I'm saying if the store, so Pablo did get
- 29:02Speaker 1: the video. Good job by him. I was no audio.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I would tell Pablo, get the audio. That's the important part.
- 29:08Speaker 1: The audio. If you want to impress me because.
- 29:11Speaker 2: He hasn't done enough by winning a Pulitzer prize to
- 29:14Speaker 2: impress me, get the audio.
- 29:16Speaker 1: What have you done for me lately?
- 29:18Speaker 2: But if indeed the owner of the store or the
- 29:20Speaker 2: manager was disrespectful to her because of how she looked
- 29:24Speaker 2: and she felt the need to say something, I don't know.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I guess I'm okay with that.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I mean, listen, there are unassuming billionaires walking amongst us
- 29:33Speaker 2: every single day.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I'm serious. Treat everyone correctly. Treat everyone the same. How's
- 29:38Speaker 1: that sound? If indeed that happened. If not, then I'm
- 29:41Speaker 1: on the store set. What was the result of the poll?
- 29:46Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 29:49Speaker 5: 51.6% of the audience said they would not recognize Kelly
- 29:53Speaker 5: Clarkson out in public.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Huh.
- 29:54Speaker 5: Those are the polls.
- 29:55Speaker 1: All right. Why are you laughing? Let's let the porn
- 30:03Speaker 1: music play on the way out. Have a great weekend, everyone.
