- 0:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I would tell you my my big big guy with
- 0:30Speaker 3: the small number theory big guys, it's small numbers.
- 0:33Speaker 4: You know what it means to me, Mike, is it
- 0:34Speaker 4: means that that guy is a really good applete. It's
- 0:37Speaker 4: not typical that like these three hundred pound guys or
- 0:40Speaker 4: you know, we're number eight.
- 0:41Speaker 2: We like Buy and more. It was seven at BU.
- 0:43Speaker 5: Paul, You and I we don't really often have bets,
- 0:46Speaker 5: and yet somehow I bet that ship Nard Sanders was
- 0:49Speaker 5: going to go in the top fifteen, and I owe
- 0:51Speaker 5: you a sandwich.
- 0:52Speaker 4: That Trio of Safety is that win in the fourth
- 0:54Speaker 4: round back in twenty five because we're absolute sick of
- 0:58Speaker 4: Catch twenty two or yeah your tagline catch twenty two
- 1:02Speaker 4: will remember, Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Did you check in with Barky on your ride home
- 1:06Speaker 5: last night.
- 1:06Speaker 6: And tried calling him but he wasn't ready to talk yet,
- 1:09Speaker 6: so probably talk.
- 1:10Speaker 3: To ready to dere No, No, I'm not there yet, so.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Nothing will be that you're ready for your close up
- 1:18Speaker 2: after you da phase it.
- 1:20Speaker 6: Nothing will be the cold, strange draft. And him and
- 1:22Speaker 6: I spent about an hour and a half on the phone.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Jess is sleeping in the other room and she comes
- 1:28Speaker 6: in and she's like, you're screaming. It's two o'clock in
- 1:30Speaker 6: the morning.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I was like, they drafted the card.
- 1:34Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:36Speaker 7: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:39Speaker 7: dot com.
- 1:42Speaker 2: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:46Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium. We're back to our normal routine after
- 1:50Speaker 2: a big week the NFL Draft the Patriots. I think
- 1:54Speaker 2: the consensus is that they had a pretty good draft.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I think so.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I think they brought in some players, at least at
- 1:59Speaker 2: the time of that draft that have a chance to
- 2:02Speaker 2: really contribute right away in areas of need. So I'm
- 2:05Speaker 2: very excited. I don't know if you guys share my enthusiasm.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's Deuce, it's Deven, it's Paul. We might have a
- 2:12Speaker 2: guest in a little bit, so waiting for him to
- 2:15Speaker 2: show up. But in the meantime, let's let's talk about
- 2:18Speaker 2: what transpired over the weekend.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's a funny place to be because I
- 2:22Speaker 5: think we were used in the draft being like, well
- 2:24Speaker 5: I wanted them to do this and they didn't quite
- 2:26Speaker 5: do that.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I mean, I you.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Know, we talked so much about the draft leading up
- 2:30Speaker 5: to it, and I just feel like the positions we
- 2:32Speaker 5: talked about, the players, we talked about, the needs that
- 2:36Speaker 5: we talked about, the positions that we'd like to see
- 2:38Speaker 5: them fee like they check kind of all my boxes.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Like I have a couple, you know, the safety a
- 2:43Speaker 5: little bit of a Okay, I know I wasn't really
- 2:45Speaker 5: on him, but I understand it. What I've liked a
- 2:48Speaker 5: edge rusher, maybe a little bit early, maybe you know,
- 2:51Speaker 5: just a developmental guy. Sure, but when they you know,
- 2:54Speaker 5: ended up getting Swinson in the in the later rounds,
- 2:56Speaker 5: like you know, that's what I was talking about, it
- 2:58Speaker 5: just reinforced the pass rush a little bit. So for me,
- 3:01Speaker 5: they checked all the boxes and we everything we've talked
- 3:04Speaker 5: about is on YouTube and on Patriots dot com ad nauseum.
- 3:08Speaker 5: So it's just it's, uh, it just feels good to say,
- 3:10Speaker 5: you know, it feels like we were on it. We
- 3:12Speaker 5: knew what they what they needed with they and that's
- 3:14Speaker 5: kind of what they ended up doing. So I just
- 3:16Speaker 5: it's satisfying and it's it's exciting for me.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah we didn't there were no head like real head scratch,
- 3:20Speaker 2: just cread.
- 3:21Speaker 6: The safety was a little like.
- 3:22Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, yeah not you know, but other I mean,
- 3:25Speaker 5: and that's not really a criticism. I mean that that
- 3:27Speaker 5: happens should happen a lot in a draft where you're.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Like, who's this guy?
- 3:30Speaker 8: You know?
- 3:30Speaker 5: But otherwise, every guy they took, I mean, you can
- 3:33Speaker 5: only talk about Kyle Williams for so long, and then
- 3:35Speaker 5: they took Kyle Williams. You know, we were just we
- 3:36Speaker 5: were on those guys so and then as you get
- 3:39Speaker 5: to dive into the film of especially Henderson and Williams,
- 3:42Speaker 5: I just think that's what the excitement mostly, a lot
- 3:44Speaker 5: of the excitement comes from you put the tires on
- 3:46Speaker 5: the car with Will Campbell, but you added some explosiveness,
- 3:49Speaker 5: and that just is this season ended. That's what we've
- 3:52Speaker 5: been saying, This offense needs to hit a new level
- 3:55Speaker 5: and hopefully that they'll.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Be able to do it with somebody's little analogy on
- 3:58Speaker 3: the fly, then yeah, you're putting the higher on their car.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Frett helps them out with the absolutely Toyota's well done.
- 4:10Speaker 6: You can strap it up. I've it's been a while
- 4:13Speaker 6: since the Patriots have had uh glowing remarks across all
- 4:18Speaker 6: It's not just us, like it's one thing for us
- 4:19Speaker 6: to say it, but all these other places are saying
- 4:22Speaker 6: it too, that they had one of the best drafts
- 4:24Speaker 6: in the league. And I can't remember a time that
- 4:27Speaker 6: they had a consensus top five draft in the NFL,
- 4:31Speaker 6: some places even grading them as the best draft in
- 4:34Speaker 6: the entire league out of all thirty two teams. So
- 4:38Speaker 6: that's a that's a different feeling. I normally you see
- 4:41Speaker 6: some some head scratchers, some guys that you weren't expecting
- 4:45Speaker 6: to go that early, or positions that you weren't really
- 4:47Speaker 6: thinking about going into the draft, or whatever the case
- 4:51Speaker 6: may be, classic reaches and things like that, and there
- 4:54Speaker 6: really weren't any besides you know, maybe maybe Woodson in
- 4:57Speaker 6: the fourth round. But there were people that liked that
- 5:00Speaker 6: pick too, you know, Daniel Jeremiah is very complimentary of
- 5:03Speaker 6: that pick. So it's kind of uncharted territory for me.
- 5:07Speaker 6: I feel kind of weird that everybody's like, oh, wow,
- 5:10Speaker 6: no great draft guys, Yeah, so cool.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh, Paul bring you back down.
- 5:14Speaker 3: No, not at all, and it will did they my
- 5:18Speaker 3: show gave me.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Okay, they gave it what I'm talking about, cheap.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Kind of stuff.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Yeah, this is going to go down to me. We're
- 5:28Speaker 4: going to look at those first three guys, the offensive picks.
- 5:31Speaker 4: The offense badly needed some some help. And that's where
- 5:34Speaker 4: I think this this draft is ultimately going to be defined.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Now assuming that those guys pan out, you can really
- 5:41Speaker 4: make it special if you find a way to hit
- 5:44Speaker 4: on on a couple of the other picks that Mike,
- 5:46Speaker 4: you know, brought up earlier with the day three guys.
- 5:49Speaker 3: That's how you take a good draft.
- 5:50Speaker 4: And make it really you know, one of them that
- 5:53Speaker 4: that stands out and makes it special. So, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 4: Mike and I bickered a little bit as the weekend
- 5:59Speaker 4: went on with the Edge, and if I had known
- 6:02Speaker 4: it would be so easy to get Mike excited, you know,
- 6:05Speaker 4: we'll just pick one in the fifth round, I wouldn't
- 6:08Speaker 4: have you know, even I wouldn't have wasted my time
- 6:11Speaker 4: arguing something, Well.
- 6:13Speaker 6: He's one of the best values in the draft just
- 6:15Speaker 6: based off of the consensus and where they ended up
- 6:17Speaker 6: getting him. Swinson was for me a top one hundred
- 6:21Speaker 6: player for a lot of people, a top one hundred player,
- 6:23Speaker 6: and he fell. And there's some things in the beast
- 6:26Speaker 6: about you know why he fell, maybe some brush ups
- 6:29Speaker 6: with coaches and things like that in his past, but
- 6:31Speaker 6: it sounds like it none of it was performance related
- 6:34Speaker 6: at LSU, and certainly the numbers backed that up. So
- 6:37Speaker 6: they kind of got a guy that was projected as
- 6:40Speaker 6: like a third or fourth round pick by most people.
- 6:42Speaker 6: In the fifth round. So you know, for Deuce that
- 6:45Speaker 6: that's your developmental edge, Like that's that's the guy with
- 6:47Speaker 6: some tools and some pass rush ability.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I will say and I said it.
- 6:51Speaker 5: We did a shot a little draft recap which will
- 6:53Speaker 5: be check it out on our YouTube channel and probably tomorrow.
- 6:55Speaker 5: But I took a little glance forward at next year's class,
- 6:59Speaker 5: like I just, you know, people come up with these
- 7:01Speaker 5: stupid mock drafts, but I feel like for somebody like me,
- 7:03Speaker 5: it doesn't know a lot of college football, it's like,
- 7:05Speaker 5: all right, well, just get a sense look at some
- 7:06Speaker 5: of these guys putting mock drafts together, at least to
- 7:08Speaker 5: put a list of players together. And there were a
- 7:10Speaker 5: number of edge players next year, which it seems like
- 7:12Speaker 5: it'll be another strong class for that position. So that
- 7:16Speaker 5: was a little bit, you know, it made me feel
- 7:18Speaker 5: a little bit better. I mean, and I get Paul's point,
- 7:20Speaker 5: and I mean, to be honest, like, I still think
- 7:22Speaker 5: that they have depth issues along the line, a little
- 7:25Speaker 5: bit in the defensive line, so you know that. But look,
- 7:28Speaker 5: it's I like what Ryan Cowten said. Like Ryan Cowten,
- 7:30Speaker 5: I think at the end was like, you know, we're
- 7:31Speaker 5: gonna finish up here and we're gonna start looking at
- 7:33Speaker 5: the roster and be like, all right, where are we weak?
- 7:35Speaker 1: What do we need to do?
- 7:35Speaker 5: And I you know, that's kind of where I where
- 7:37Speaker 5: my head was at too. You're not going to get
- 7:39Speaker 5: everything you need. I said on the Draft Show, I
- 7:41Speaker 5: would have liked to have a developmental defensive end to
- 7:44Speaker 5: you know, develop behind you know, Chase On and Harold.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Landry didn't get that.
- 7:49Speaker 5: But still you ended up got a guy who can
- 7:51Speaker 5: help with the pass rush off the edge, and I
- 7:52Speaker 5: think that's what Swinson is known for. He's got some
- 7:55Speaker 5: juice around the corner, and I thought that was the
- 7:57Speaker 5: biggest element they needed just to reinforce the depth.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Just come on, un clarify. So you're looking at it
- 8:03Speaker 4: a little bit differently, like a like a Harold Landry
- 8:05Speaker 4: and this guy. Then what do you mean so you
- 8:09Speaker 4: said you were looking for a developmental backup defensive end.
- 8:13Speaker 3: You don't pitch Swinton, Well, I picture.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I see him more as a stand up pass rusher,
- 8:19Speaker 5: gonna come.
- 8:20Speaker 1: On on third downs.
- 8:21Speaker 5: And I don't know, I mean, maybe you know, in
- 8:23Speaker 5: a in a perfect world, he develops into a three.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Down kind of a guy.
- 8:26Speaker 3: But we haven't seen what kind of defense.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Yeah, we haven't seen. I mean we have a feeling
- 8:30Speaker 5: of what they're gonna run on defense. But I just
- 8:33Speaker 5: think they're gonna have four down lineman. They're gonna have
- 8:35Speaker 5: a down defensive end. I I don't know if that's Swinson.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I mean I look at four down lineman, the guys
- 8:40Speaker 3: on the in this.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I'll defer to you two, but
- 8:43Speaker 4: in this I I look at those Those two guys
- 8:45Speaker 4: on the end might be down lineman, but.
- 8:47Speaker 3: There their edge rushers.
- 8:48Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you know Harold Landry, I mean, yep, Chasing's not
- 8:51Speaker 4: an every down player. I mean I I don't think
- 8:53Speaker 4: he's been that in his career. Now, maybe he will
- 8:55Speaker 4: be that with the Patriots. We don't know what his
- 8:57Speaker 4: role is going to be here. It's gonna be different
- 9:00Speaker 4: system for him. But I look at him in his
- 9:03Speaker 4: career as kind of one of those situational edge kind
- 9:06Speaker 4: of pass rushing types.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I know, I know guys have always played on the edge,
- 9:09Speaker 2: but when did the term edge like really come into vogue?
- 9:12Speaker 8: Right?
- 9:13Speaker 6: It's more definitely more of a draft term than it
- 9:18Speaker 6: is because you know, you have four to three defensive
- 9:20Speaker 6: ends and then you have three four outside linebackers and
- 9:22Speaker 6: some guys can kind of do a little bit of both.
- 9:24Speaker 6: So like, how did you really categorize those types of players?
- 9:28Speaker 6: And like each scheme is different, So like in Bill's
- 9:31Speaker 6: three four, like those guys would be outside linebackers, but
- 9:34Speaker 6: in the four to three those guys are defensive ends.
- 9:36Speaker 6: So in order to catch all you just say edge
- 9:38Speaker 6: didn't screen.
- 9:39Speaker 3: A guy like Dietrich Wise defensive is more of a
- 9:44Speaker 3: Ty Warren.
- 9:45Speaker 4: They were like three four end types, right, And then
- 9:48Speaker 4: you get a guy on the edge.
- 9:50Speaker 6: Like I would put I would say Wise is a
- 9:53Speaker 6: defensive lineman, like I would put him in the interior
- 9:55Speaker 6: defensive lineman category, where where like Joshua Farmer is gonna be.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Swinson is more of an outside linebacker edge rusher type,
- 10:04Speaker 6: and to douce his point, I don't know if he's
- 10:05Speaker 6: going to be able to play with his hand in
- 10:07Speaker 6: the dirt on first down, right, Like, I don't know
- 10:09Speaker 6: if that's going to be him. It's probably the biggest
- 10:12Speaker 6: knock on his tape is the run defense consistency and
- 10:15Speaker 6: anchoring and that kind of thing. But he's got all
- 10:18Speaker 6: the tools to be a great pass rusher. So if
- 10:20Speaker 6: they can just develop his play strength a little bit,
- 10:22Speaker 6: his technique on the run defense side, like, maybe he
- 10:25Speaker 6: could emerge a little bit there. I think with those
- 10:27Speaker 6: two guys, in addition to what they already have with
- 10:30Speaker 6: Milton Williams and hopefully bar More and Keon White, like
- 10:33Speaker 6: their defensive line, it looks pretty good in terms of
- 10:36Speaker 6: the depth on paper. I'm not too concerned about it there, No.
- 10:39Speaker 5: And I think I think I've summed it up well.
- 10:41Speaker 5: Let's I kind of see Swinson as an outside linebacker.
- 10:44Speaker 5: I see Chase On and Landry as defensive ends, and
- 10:46Speaker 5: I think for their three down purposes they want a
- 10:48Speaker 5: defensive end. That's why I like MIKEL Williams. I feel
- 10:50Speaker 5: like yes, he could stand up, but he could also
- 10:52Speaker 5: be that hand down kind of guy that they needed.
- 10:54Speaker 5: So in a perfect world, that would have been the
- 10:56Speaker 5: guy that we got. Is it developmental? But again, I
- 11:00Speaker 5: don't know if I would have been fully happy because
- 11:02Speaker 5: I thought.
- 11:02Speaker 1: The pass rush was the biggest issue.
- 11:04Speaker 5: It's kind of two things competing for me. It's pass
- 11:06Speaker 5: rush and it's defensive ends.
- 11:07Speaker 6: They kind of combine them into one player, Like they
- 11:10Speaker 6: combined like Farmers kind of well like sort of what
- 11:13Speaker 6: you're talking about with his hand in the dirt. But
- 11:15Speaker 6: then Swinson's kind of the guy that's got the juice
- 11:17Speaker 6: off the edge, So like maybe they're thinking Farmer plays
- 11:20Speaker 6: early downs. You know, Swinston's a rotational edgeresher on third down.
- 11:25Speaker 6: Farmer's more of a rotational early down player, and they
- 11:28Speaker 6: kind of got, you know, both those guys to combine.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I love this stuff. Can we just keep this defense
- 11:31Speaker 1: rolling through the little show?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Fred?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Oh?
- 11:33Speaker 8: Sure?
- 11:33Speaker 6: Just my favorite pick of the drafts. I gotta defend
- 11:36Speaker 6: my guys.
- 11:37Speaker 3: It's good and it's good.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Maybe I had such great numbers over the weekend, you
- 11:39Speaker 2: want to just kill it right now.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Wow, we don't even mention.
- 11:48Speaker 2: But you mentioned YouTube. I just want to remind folks
- 11:51Speaker 2: that YouTube, the Patriots YouTube channel is really becoming kind
- 11:54Speaker 2: of a place to go. I mean, you've got the
- 11:56Speaker 2: Patriots app obviously in Patriots dot com, but you know
- 12:00Speaker 2: the YouTube channel. They've been posting a lot of really
- 12:03Speaker 2: cool stuff there. So if you're not already a subscriber
- 12:06Speaker 2: to the Patriots YouTube channel, you want to do that.
- 12:09Speaker 2: There's already a bunch of stuff there, and as this
- 12:13Speaker 2: off season progresses and we move into training camp, there's
- 12:16Speaker 2: going to be a lot more posted there. So you
- 12:17Speaker 2: want to make sure you're following the Patriots on YouTube
- 12:20Speaker 2: as well.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I was going to say, my son is my son,
- 12:23Speaker 5: he's thirteen now, he's gonna be thirteen a couple of weeks,
- 12:25Speaker 5: but he signed up. He's follows Patriots on YouTube. And
- 12:27Speaker 5: he came out to me the morning the draft and
- 12:28Speaker 5: he just said, Dad, what's Fred's back of the envelope?
- 12:31Speaker 8: Guys?
- 12:31Speaker 5: He was looking for next nation.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So yeah, he's uh so it's good. We'll get lot
- 12:35Speaker 1: of stuff out.
- 12:35Speaker 2: There, good stuff, all right, going viral?
- 12:38Speaker 3: Fred? Yeah, when the kids are talking going.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So what was your your was your big story other
- 12:47Speaker 2: than the Patriots of the Shouduar Sander thing over the weekend.
- 12:49Speaker 5: I mean that was wild, sure, I mean going to
- 12:52Speaker 5: the milk Hiper followut is still happening.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Talking about his reactions too.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I'm wondering if there was some behind the scenes pressure
- 12:59Speaker 2: put on the Brown to take him, because to take
- 13:02Speaker 2: the other guy first and then Sanders in the fifth rounds?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Do you think the miserable reaction of the draft room.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they signed Deontay Johnson too.
- 13:12Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 13:14Speaker 4: I mean it was clearly nationally for the draft. That
- 13:18Speaker 4: was the story of the weekend. We talked about it
- 13:21Speaker 4: a lot on our shows too. What I wasn't aware of.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you're sort of seeing on Twitter
- 13:28Speaker 4: the reactions of different people, but when you actually hear,
- 13:33Speaker 4: like how like Melkiper could be as offended by this
- 13:37Speaker 4: as he was, makes me wonder what his motivation is. Yeah, Like,
- 13:43Speaker 4: I if you think that he should have been a
- 13:44Speaker 4: first round pick, I'm not here to tell you you're wrong.
- 13:47Speaker 3: That's your opinion. You evaluate, fine, But why are you
- 13:50Speaker 3: so angry about it?
- 13:51Speaker 6: It's embarrassing.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It was like it was like it was personal for me,
- 13:53Speaker 3: mel Wiper.
- 13:54Speaker 6: It kind of is personal you know, in a way,
- 13:57Speaker 6: you know, when you put yourself out there and you
- 13:59Speaker 6: great player, and you ranked players, and you publish mock
- 14:02Speaker 6: drafts and you publish big boards, and then you have
- 14:05Speaker 6: a guy going third overall and he drops all the
- 14:07Speaker 6: way to the fifth round like that. Your reputation is
- 14:10Speaker 6: built on being accurate with all those types of predictions
- 14:14Speaker 6: and some for mel Kuiper, like that was a big issue,
- 14:17Speaker 6: but embarrassment that he went as late as I did.
- 14:19Speaker 4: But my point would be, so I made these evaluations
- 14:23Speaker 4: and I got it wrong. That's not what mel Kuiper thinks.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Well, he didn't get it wrong there wrong in terms
- 14:30Speaker 2: of where he thought it was going to go. He
- 14:31Speaker 2: got it wrong, but his evaluation could still be right correct.
- 14:36Speaker 3: But he's killing the league.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's killing Dare you disagree with me?
- 14:41Speaker 4: It's not personal Mel. Well, listen, due they didn't take
- 14:44Speaker 4: him because they wanted to stick.
- 14:45Speaker 3: It to mel Kuiper.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I think Mel's on there, he wants to be.
- 14:48Speaker 3: That's how that to me, the story became mel Kiper.
- 14:52Speaker 2: That's you know, it's all about the drama.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And I do think that you're you're right about that.
- 14:57Speaker 4: I think the networks uh, you know, in this case,
- 15:00Speaker 4: ESPN kind of lean into it a little bit and
- 15:04Speaker 4: they they I think that they sort of recognized we
- 15:06Speaker 4: got a guy that's a little unhinged. It's probably not
- 15:08Speaker 4: bad for ratings, right, you know, And listen, I have
- 15:12Speaker 4: a lot of respect for mel Kiper. I think he
- 15:14Speaker 4: does a really good job. No one gets the most,
- 15:17Speaker 4: no one in that business has a squeaky clean record.
- 15:20Speaker 4: His performance over the weekend wasn't That.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Was a guy in ESPN who's a multi millionaire in
- 15:26Speaker 2: his nickname's mad Dog. So I mean, that's kind of
- 15:29Speaker 2: all you need to know.
- 15:31Speaker 5: And then did you guys see the what is the
- 15:33Speaker 5: jeff ulbriks Son then found the number of s Sanders
- 15:35Speaker 5: and that.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That was really stupid. I mean, that kid, he just
- 15:41Speaker 2: embarrassed his father to no end.
- 15:43Speaker 4: He did, and he's obviously, you know, paying the price
- 15:47Speaker 4: for it. But my god, like, it was a stupid
- 15:52Speaker 4: childish prank, Like, can we not put him in prison?
- 15:57Speaker 4: Like the reaction, My god Like, if my kid did it,
- 16:02Speaker 4: believe me, they'd be serious repercussions. My kid wouldn't have
- 16:05Speaker 4: gotten away with this. And I'm sure that he's not either. Yeah,
- 16:08Speaker 4: because You've put it perfectly, Freddy, he barrassed his.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Father and works for an NFL team, right, have some
- 16:14Speaker 2: respect for your dad.
- 16:15Speaker 3: My god, was no one ever twenty one before and
- 16:17Speaker 3: you never do anything stupid? Oh yeah, Like like am
- 16:21Speaker 3: I wrong? Like the reaction was like you know this guy,
- 16:23Speaker 3: like we got to lock him up and throw away
- 16:25Speaker 3: the kate.
- 16:26Speaker 6: I do wonder that, like why does the defensive coordinator
- 16:29Speaker 6: of the Atlanta Falcons, why does he have access to
- 16:32Speaker 6: the phone numbers? Because he's not calling Shador Sanders to
- 16:38Speaker 6: like as like a scout to like evaluate him.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I just wonder if there's like a like some kind
- 16:43Speaker 3: of a master.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Right, But like shouldn't that master she'd have a little
- 16:46Speaker 6: bit more restriction in terms of who has access to it,
- 16:49Speaker 6: Like why not every single coach on the coaching staff
- 16:52Speaker 6: needs to have because once you start to branch out
- 16:55Speaker 6: the numbers, like the more and more people that have it,
- 16:58Speaker 6: the more likely it is that something like this happens.
- 17:00Speaker 4: So like, I mean, do you have to take in
- 17:03Speaker 4: consideration that you don't want something like this to happen?
- 17:05Speaker 3: Like is that something that you need?
- 17:07Speaker 2: But but I mean, the whole he got prank called
- 17:11Speaker 2: The whole idea these numbers is that so when the
- 17:13Speaker 2: player gets the call, he knows it's from somebody that's
- 17:17Speaker 2: authorized to call me from the team.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Uh Jesus, if the Jerky Boys were all today, we
- 17:24Speaker 3: have kind of a throwback to when prank call still happened,
- 17:26Speaker 3: Like we have to, we'd have to go with a
- 17:28Speaker 3: whole new routine on pregame shows, like we can't do
- 17:31Speaker 3: what Jerky Boys anymore.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Those guys would be in prison, like Star six nine,
- 17:35Speaker 5: like all those things are lost, like what Star six
- 17:37Speaker 5: nine is?
- 17:38Speaker 3: All right, I'm not Please, don't misunderstand this. I'm not.
- 17:41Speaker 4: It was a dumb, dumb thing and it was mean.
- 17:45Speaker 4: It was flat out mean, and Shadua Sanders did not
- 17:49Speaker 4: deserve that now, But I mean, it just was a dumb,
- 17:53Speaker 4: stupid prank. Like I just I think we've gone a
- 17:57Speaker 4: little bit overboard.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Did they like actually talk to him and all or
- 18:00Speaker 5: I didn't I didn't see any of the actual calls,
- 18:02Speaker 5: so they call.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Oh really yeah?
- 18:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:07Speaker 2: And you know, Sanders kind of handled it really well,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you know, like he didn't get outraged or anything.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Like no, everybody's getting outraged.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Four Yeah, I give him credit, but it's yeah, you
- 18:18Speaker 2: just feel bad because you hear all these players talk
- 18:20Speaker 2: about shoot.
- 18:21Speaker 5: I forget which of our draft pics it was, but
- 18:22Speaker 5: somebody said, like I saw Foxborough pop up and I knew,
- 18:25Speaker 5: and I just had this rush of emotion. So you
- 18:27Speaker 5: know that that's the start of it. And so he must
- 18:30Speaker 5: have gotten that rush of adrenaline thinking this is it,
- 18:33Speaker 5: it's happening, and then you know that's that's.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Where you're taking advantage of somebody in kind of a
- 18:37Speaker 1: tough spot.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Absolutely, Ye, like I said it was, it was mean.
- 18:41Speaker 3: It was flat out mean, all right.
- 18:43Speaker 2: A five to five pass five hundred is the hotline
- 18:47Speaker 2: podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address. We
- 18:50Speaker 2: got a lot of emails coming in, we got calls
- 18:52Speaker 2: coming in. Chances are we're going to have a guest
- 18:55Speaker 2: at some point soon. So while we're waiting for him
- 19:00Speaker 2: to come in, Uh, let me get my mouse working here.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Uh it's not working, all right? The good radio, Well
- 19:11Speaker 2: maybe we'll go to wemails.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Now, can you punch up radio calls from that's all right?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Phone calls, it might be a bad battery.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I mean, you can do it like they do on
- 19:21Speaker 3: my shows. I'm frozen. Jimmy, I'm frozen. Can you can
- 19:23Speaker 3: you punch up line?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Here we go. I gotta go, and I gotta go, and.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I do that right from the dead.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Let's go to uh. We'll start with you hate them?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Cole in Minnesota? What's up? Cold good?
- 19:37Speaker 8: Hey?
- 19:37Speaker 9: Yeah, So I'm called back a few months back free
- 19:42Speaker 9: free agent signing, Paul. I'm excited because everything has happened
- 19:45Speaker 9: so far. Maybe defensive, you know, reload the offensive line,
- 19:52Speaker 9: wide receiver death. I got my major question today for
- 19:56Speaker 9: you guys, is you know, all the things we did
- 19:59Speaker 9: are all kind of dependent on one coaching step and
- 20:02Speaker 9: two whether Drake may think that next week's Steven is
- 20:05Speaker 9: there something that you could see get hits off more
- 20:08Speaker 9: year that may I can take a step back from him,
- 20:11Speaker 9: Like if he goes on another you know, ten twelve
- 20:14Speaker 9: interception one. Is that kind of where we take a
- 20:17Speaker 9: step back or do we just say.
- 20:18Speaker 2: All, well, okay, thanks for the call. If he if
- 20:24Speaker 2: he throws for forty touchdowns and has twelve interceptions, I'm
- 20:27Speaker 2: fine with that. It just depends on his production.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Twelve interceptions is not no, that's not all. That's not
- 20:32Speaker 4: a bad that's not terrible. I mean it's not great,
- 20:34Speaker 4: but it's not a bad number. But especially second year.
- 20:37Speaker 2: But if you only have fifteen touchdowns, then it makes it.
- 20:39Speaker 3: That's not so good, you know. And he's not making
- 20:41Speaker 3: any place right.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So but if he's making plays left and right and
- 20:44Speaker 2: he has those types of intercepts, that's okay. We can
- 20:47Speaker 2: live with that.
- 20:47Speaker 5: You just don't want the mac jones back across the field.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Just dumb decisions, good play, right, you know.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I think the same things that we saw to see
- 20:56Speaker 3: those cleaned up.
- 20:57Speaker 5: I mean with Drake we May sprays. I mean there
- 20:59Speaker 5: are are case and all, whoa, what was that?
- 21:01Speaker 1: Not too consistent? But it's a huge question.
- 21:04Speaker 5: I'm not sure, like step back like I don't I
- 21:06Speaker 5: look at more.
- 21:07Speaker 1: You got to take a step forward. I agree, that's
- 21:10Speaker 1: what it is.
- 21:10Speaker 5: He's got to cut down on those turnovers and he's
- 21:13Speaker 5: got to prove it in clutch time.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Those are the two big things, right.
- 21:15Speaker 2: But Cole's bigger point that this season is mostly dependent
- 21:19Speaker 2: on coaching and Drake May's development. I agree with that absolutely.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I agree with absolutely.
- 21:23Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 21:24Speaker 6: Yeah, Deuce's point about clutch like we don't really know
- 21:27Speaker 6: what it looks like for Drake may in a meaningful
- 21:29Speaker 6: game when it's you know, they're down three two minutes left,
- 21:34Speaker 6: like can he orchestrate like we saw so many times
- 21:37Speaker 6: with Brady, Like can you orchestrate those types of drives?
- 21:39Speaker 6: You really didn't have the pressure of that moment too
- 21:43Speaker 6: often because of the you know, the failures of the
- 21:45Speaker 6: team last year, So we don't know like that. That's
- 21:49Speaker 6: the unknown in so many of these games right now
- 21:51Speaker 6: are decided by one score. So if it comes down
- 21:55Speaker 6: to that and he doesn't have that it factor yet,
- 21:58Speaker 6: then they're gonna lose those coin flip.
- 22:01Speaker 5: I mean, you call it the if factor, and that's
- 22:02Speaker 5: really to me everything. It's there are a lot of
- 22:05Speaker 5: good quarterbacks in the league. There are a lot of
- 22:07Speaker 5: starting quarterbacks in the league, but the special quarterbacks are
- 22:09Speaker 5: the ones that when it's all on the line, they
- 22:11Speaker 5: make the plays. And those are the guys that win
- 22:14Speaker 5: playoff games and win Super Bowls. And how many times
- 22:16Speaker 5: you have to see Patrick Mahomes do it, you get
- 22:18Speaker 5: to a certain point, like with him and Brady, where
- 22:21Speaker 5: you know, teams are just not comfortable at all until
- 22:24Speaker 5: the clock hits zero. And I hope that that's what
- 22:26Speaker 5: kind of quarterback Drake. Make him be the guy and
- 22:28Speaker 5: the guy that you have to put every single nail
- 22:30Speaker 5: in that coffin because if you leave one of them out,
- 22:33Speaker 5: he's gonna bust out.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, let's go to Fidel in Tampa. Hey, Fidel, guys,
- 22:40Speaker 2: doing good.
- 22:42Speaker 11: Good you talking about the YouTube channel growing. My favorite
- 22:47Speaker 11: video so far has been the draft reaction. So drafting
- 22:51Speaker 11: Will Campbell. The very first thing you hear is Bred going, wow,
- 22:56Speaker 11: it looks like his brother. Okay, he looks like a
- 23:00Speaker 11: Batman villain.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Well, the suit absolutely, the pit strike suit.
- 23:06Speaker 11: Yeah, there's no clappang, no nothing, just like it looks
- 23:10Speaker 11: like his brother.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Okay, well he did.
- 23:14Speaker 11: But it is good. I love the draft. I think
- 23:18Speaker 11: Kyle Williams, I think it's probably one of my favorite picks.
- 23:22Speaker 11: I thought it was funny that we were in the
- 23:24Speaker 11: same scenario as we were when we drafted Sonny Michelle
- 23:28Speaker 11: and Nick Chubb with the brown and it splits, and
- 23:32Speaker 11: now they draft the running backs person we drafted Trayvon,
- 23:37Speaker 11: So I was wondering, what do you think. Do you
- 23:39Speaker 11: think we're gonna come out on the edge this time
- 23:41Speaker 11: and have a better producing running back or do you
- 23:44Speaker 11: think this fakes the same.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a good question. You know, Quentin John Jenkins
- 23:49Speaker 6: and Travon Henderson were neck and neck for everybody. It
- 23:52Speaker 6: was a coin flip of which guy you had over
- 23:54Speaker 6: the other. Jenkins is a little bit more of an
- 23:56Speaker 6: angry runner, downhill runner, you know, once to seek contact
- 24:01Speaker 6: instead of avoiding it.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:02Speaker 6: Traveon Henderson is more of a space back, a guy
- 24:06Speaker 6: that excels with you know, in space and with speed
- 24:09Speaker 6: and that sort of thing. So they're they're different but
- 24:12Speaker 6: similar because they both have good speed at the end
- 24:14Speaker 6: of the day, but they play differently. So it'll be
- 24:17Speaker 6: interesting to see which one ends up being better. I mean,
- 24:20Speaker 6: I personally preferred Henderson, and this was before he became
- 24:23Speaker 6: a Patriot. I personally preferred Henderson, but it was it
- 24:27Speaker 6: was really close. It was a toss up.
- 24:29Speaker 5: I remember you've being surprised when Judkins went first.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, because I just think that he's he's a
- 24:35Speaker 6: guy that, like I said, he seeks contact, like he
- 24:37Speaker 6: wants to run you over. I personally would rather the
- 24:41Speaker 6: guy that runs around you instead of over you because
- 24:43Speaker 6: of the wear and tear and exactly that.
- 24:46Speaker 4: It is funny that he brought it up because I
- 24:49Speaker 4: kind of thought of Chubb and Michelle in a similar fashion.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I thought Michelle was more of the third down type
- 24:55Speaker 4: you can get, you get the ball in space a
- 24:57Speaker 4: little bit and use him as a receiver.
- 24:59Speaker 3: He was not that as a Patriot.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Now, what we didn't know to the extent was just
- 25:04Speaker 4: how injured he was coming out of Georgia. And obviously
- 25:08Speaker 4: Chubb had a far superior career. But I think that
- 25:12Speaker 4: I felt like there was a difference between Chubb and
- 25:16Speaker 4: Michelle each other, difference between Judkins and absolutely and I
- 25:20Speaker 4: would have taken Michelle. Then I was wrong, just like
- 25:23Speaker 4: the Patriots were in terms of the skill set. I
- 25:26Speaker 4: like the skill set now. Chubb I think was a
- 25:27Speaker 4: better player at Georgia. I think Henderson was a better
- 25:31Speaker 4: player at Ohio State. So in one regard, I'm saying
- 25:35Speaker 4: I like what the Patriots did now I didn't like
- 25:36Speaker 4: what they did then.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Different guys, but they're different guys.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Ryan and Watertown says, speaking of the draft LFG Aside
- 25:45Speaker 2: from the long snapper pick, I love pretty much everything
- 25:48Speaker 2: the Patriots did. My question this week is about the
- 25:50Speaker 2: wide receiver room. I know it's early, but who do
- 25:53Speaker 2: you think might be gone once the regular season rolls around.
- 25:58Speaker 6: That's gonna be a popular question.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah, started already yesterday.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I really look at I love how you know
- 26:06Speaker 4: all of those guys, Yeah, started already yesterday.
- 26:09Speaker 5: Did that's none of the topics the roster.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Yeah. I would say two guys I would look at, uh,
- 26:18Speaker 6: you know, Kendrick Bourne. Is there is there a spot
- 26:21Speaker 6: for him, especially with Digs and Kyle Williams probably being
- 26:26Speaker 6: you know, base receiver types that Kendrick Bourne is like
- 26:29Speaker 6: it is there really a role for him? And then
- 26:32Speaker 6: Javon Baker I think is the other one. And I'd
- 26:35Speaker 6: probably put kish On Booty in that conversation too. But
- 26:38Speaker 6: I see a lot of people just because Javon Baker
- 26:40Speaker 6: was a fourth round pick last year, I think he's
- 26:43Speaker 6: going to be on the roster over Booty. But Booty's
- 26:45Speaker 6: got a lot more NFL production and flash, you know
- 26:48Speaker 6: to to his game. I mean, Javon Baker's done nothing.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I'll give you that.
- 26:51Speaker 4: For Polk, I think the fact that Polk is a
- 26:54Speaker 4: second years, second round pick probably gives.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Him a leg up.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Yeah, not for a fourth round pick. There are plenty
- 27:01Speaker 4: of fourth round picks that wash out quickly, and I
- 27:04Speaker 4: agree with Evan.
- 27:06Speaker 5: I have a little bit of question on Bourne, just
- 27:09Speaker 5: because if Digs isn't ready to go, what makes sense
- 27:11Speaker 5: to keep and have some veteran reliability.
- 27:14Speaker 3: There another good point.
- 27:15Speaker 5: I just looking at the depth chart immediately, it's like,
- 27:18Speaker 5: you know, I feel like at X they can run
- 27:21Speaker 5: anybody out there, but you know, to hang on to Bourne,
- 27:24Speaker 5: who had a great year.
- 27:25Speaker 1: In McDaniel's system, it might.
- 27:26Speaker 5: Be a little bit more explosive, this little more reliability.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Maybe that's how I could see him. But I agree
- 27:31Speaker 5: with you on Booty. I think all those guys and Baker,
- 27:33Speaker 5: especially Baker's got to have it like a flawless camp.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I feel like he's got to come out and put
- 27:38Speaker 1: it all together.
- 27:38Speaker 3: And we all know those guys are going to have
- 27:40Speaker 3: to win jobs. Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 27:42Speaker 4: And they did get rid of you know, a half
- 27:44Speaker 4: dozen players yesterday. Because all that, I think, I think
- 27:47Speaker 4: there's like seventeen undrafted free agency, so to get to
- 27:53Speaker 4: I think it's ninety one because I think one of
- 27:55Speaker 4: those is an international player.
- 27:59Speaker 3: It's not he's not an international player.
- 28:02Speaker 4: No, Okay, I thought I read yesterday somewhere on Twitter
- 28:06Speaker 4: that he was, but so some guys had to go.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I don't think that, like Polk Baker, Boody Born. Chances
- 28:17Speaker 4: are those guys we are going to make it to
- 28:19Speaker 4: the spring and get to the camps and figure it out.
- 28:21Speaker 3: You know.
- 28:22Speaker 4: I know that Booty is a guy that Adam Schefter
- 28:25Speaker 4: throughout there was a trade candidate. Anything could happen, sure,
- 28:28Speaker 4: but they're not all going to make the team coming
- 28:31Speaker 4: out of training camp.
- 28:33Speaker 3: So let the competition. This is what this is what
- 28:36Speaker 3: Rabel kept.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Talking about from the day that he signed, had his
- 28:40Speaker 4: introductory press conference. I think they I think they've created
- 28:43Speaker 4: all the competition, you know, in a number of places.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I don't know how good.
- 28:48Speaker 4: You know, like Mike started off when you're talking about
- 28:50Speaker 4: the draft, like there's still holes with depth, and I
- 28:54Speaker 4: agree with that, Like don't confuse you have a crowded
- 28:58Speaker 4: room with a lot of players in the room, Like
- 29:02Speaker 4: they have a lot of players at wide receiver. They
- 29:04Speaker 4: have a lot of offensive linemen right now. You know,
- 29:06Speaker 4: there's another one, you know, and Marcus Bryant is added
- 29:09Speaker 4: in with Cayden Wallace, you know, and Will Campbell with
- 29:12Speaker 4: you know, with these tackles that doesn't mean you have
- 29:13Speaker 4: a crowded tackle room, like you have to figure out
- 29:16Speaker 4: who can play before you say, oh wow, they're gonna
- 29:19Speaker 4: have some tough choices to make because you know, anyone,
- 29:22Speaker 4: you know, with Marcus Bryant who played left tackle at Missouri,
- 29:25Speaker 4: with you know, a very highly regarded right tackle at Membo.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Maybe he's a diamond in the rough seventh round pick
- 29:32Speaker 4: and maybe he's better than Kayden Wallace, who knows.
- 29:34Speaker 2: You know, And we have to keep our eye on
- 29:36Speaker 2: digs like is he even going to be ready to
- 29:38Speaker 2: be in training camp? And maybe he starts the season
- 29:42Speaker 2: on pup or something like that, and you know it,
- 29:45Speaker 2: it opens up a spot for someone who otherwise would
- 29:48Speaker 2: have had to go. So you know, we'll see what
- 29:51Speaker 2: his status is. But right now he's looking good from
- 29:53Speaker 2: the videos anyway.
- 29:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean.
- 29:55Speaker 1: How did well Welker came right back?
- 29:57Speaker 8: Right?
- 29:57Speaker 3: I mean Welker played Week one.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Some people are built different.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Well was injured later. That's right, he was injured in
- 30:02Speaker 3: the last game of the season.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Smaller, so it's like to feal faster.
- 30:07Speaker 6: I think the tough part about it, we'll go with
- 30:09Speaker 6: that of the receiver room is I don't think there's
- 30:11Speaker 6: a lack of depth. I think there's a lot of
- 30:13Speaker 6: lack of top end talent. So, like, all these guys
- 30:16Speaker 6: that we're talking about are kind of the same talent level.
- 30:19Speaker 6: So which one do you pick that's that's right point?
- 30:22Speaker 6: Right when you get into you know, kay Shan Boody,
- 30:24Speaker 6: Javon Baker, even Kendrick Bourne, like these Jalen Polk, like
- 30:29Speaker 6: these guys are all kind of the same. So who
- 30:32Speaker 6: wins out is going to be interesting. You know, Kyle
- 30:34Speaker 6: Williams is going to be on the team as a
- 30:36Speaker 6: third round pick. Diggs is obviously going to be here
- 30:39Speaker 6: in some capacity. Mac Collins I assume will be on
- 30:42Speaker 6: the roster, and I think Pop will be on the roster.
- 30:44Speaker 6: But like, those four are really the only guys that
- 30:47Speaker 6: are safe. You know, if you told me that it
- 30:50Speaker 6: was Javon Baker and not Kai Shan Boody that makes
- 30:53Speaker 6: the final cut, I couldn't argue with you. Like it's possible, it'd.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Be fun to see a locked in Javon Baker. That's
- 30:59Speaker 5: like really getting it. I just I think he's got
- 31:02Speaker 5: a lot of talent and I don't know how it
- 31:04Speaker 5: would all manifest itself if it did all come to fruition.
- 31:07Speaker 1: But you know, you see how the guy moved.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Off the line last year, and that's a lot where we
- 31:11Speaker 5: talked about with Kyle Williams' ability to separate quickly, and
- 31:14Speaker 5: you know, it's just the concentration drops. It felt like,
- 31:17Speaker 5: I mean, it's remember like just Drake kept throwing them bombs,
- 31:20Speaker 5: throwing them bombs. He's dropping it. He just you know,
- 31:22Speaker 5: they just couldn't seem to connect. But maybe maybe he
- 31:25Speaker 5: comes out He's like my wild card, you know the
- 31:27Speaker 5: other guys. I feel like, you know what Booty kind
- 31:29Speaker 5: of is. I mean, I think Paul, you made a
- 31:30Speaker 5: good point. Agree with you on the radio. I think
- 31:32Speaker 5: I think you made it on the radio saying not
- 31:34Speaker 5: that I made a good point. Well that that you know,
- 31:36Speaker 5: Booty had a really good jump from first year to
- 31:38Speaker 5: second year.
- 31:39Speaker 1: He emerged. No one thought he was really going to
- 31:40Speaker 1: do anything.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Why not have some hope that maybe he continues to
- 31:45Speaker 5: make a jump and it takes another step forward.
- 31:47Speaker 3: I it was a good point, but your baker point.
- 31:49Speaker 3: I do I.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Feel like his skill sets different than the others. And Evan,
- 31:55Speaker 4: you just talked about all those different guys that to
- 31:58Speaker 4: me are all similar. Yeah, yeah, I don't think Baker.
- 32:02Speaker 4: You know, if you're asking me what I think is
- 32:04Speaker 4: going to happen with Baker, I don't think it's going
- 32:06Speaker 4: to click.
- 32:07Speaker 3: I think there's some maturity issues there.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I think there's some focus issues there, and I think
- 32:11Speaker 4: those are going to hold him back. I think it
- 32:12Speaker 4: held him back at Alabama and caused him to, you know,
- 32:15Speaker 4: have to sort of go to a smaller program. I
- 32:17Speaker 4: think it knocked him into the fourth round. So I
- 32:20Speaker 4: don't think it's like a new thing. He got to
- 32:22Speaker 4: the NFL and suddenly lacked focus. I think that's plagued him.
- 32:27Speaker 4: So I'm skeptical on him. But in terms of skill set,
- 32:31Speaker 4: he might be a little different and have a little
- 32:33Speaker 4: bit higher skill set than that group that he's competing with.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that's I mean, that's exactly what motivates me the
- 32:41Speaker 5: same boat. I'm not confident, not bt BTT.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I'm not banging the.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Table or PTT pound the table that one.
- 32:49Speaker 1: That it's going to have. I'm not pounding or banging.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I just say I hope that he's I hope he's
- 32:54Speaker 5: locked in because I mean, I think we had you
- 32:55Speaker 5: know vibes immediately with him from you know, the wheelchair
- 32:58Speaker 5: comments and all that stuff right out of gate that
- 33:00Speaker 5: you're like, dude, you know, and even his comments after
- 33:03Speaker 5: the year, not really understanding how much scrutiny everything he
- 33:06Speaker 5: said would be under And so you know, I don't
- 33:09Speaker 5: rule him out because some of these guys, it's their kids,
- 33:12Speaker 5: they're coming out. I mean, how many kids come out
- 33:14Speaker 5: of school in the first year of their job. They
- 33:15Speaker 5: don't really know what they're doing. But it's got a
- 33:17Speaker 5: click for him quick or else he's he's going to
- 33:18Speaker 5: quickly be off the team.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Yeah, it's too bad because there's me. Listen, the bar
- 33:22Speaker 6: wasn't very high last year, but there was a lot
- 33:24Speaker 6: of people in the building that thought that he was
- 33:26Speaker 6: the most talented receiver in the entire room last year.
- 33:29Speaker 6: But he just doesn't have the maturity and he doesn't have,
- 33:32Speaker 6: you know, that whole thing to realize his potential. But
- 33:36Speaker 6: there's no question that he's a really talented player. I
- 33:39Speaker 6: don't think anybody's ever doubted that, even you know, going back,
- 33:42Speaker 6: like Paul said to Alabama, like he's an extremely talented athlete.
- 33:46Speaker 2: DARPin or Dupon from New York City says, congrats on
- 33:49Speaker 2: the awesome draft coverage. Mike's increasing annoyance at the team
- 33:53Speaker 2: for foregoing defense on day two to help our promising
- 33:56Speaker 2: young quarterback was my highlight. Me too, Mike, It's too
- 33:59Speaker 2: early to op hating Drake or to start hating Drake
- 34:03Speaker 2: fair enough. My takeaway for the Pages draft is that
- 34:06Speaker 2: they are not trying to outsmart everyone. They kept it simple.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Nita left tackle, grabbed the consensus number five player that's
- 34:12Speaker 2: sitting right there, historic draft class at running back in
- 34:15Speaker 2: D line. Make sure to grab some and most important,
- 34:18Speaker 2: respect the consensus rankings for at least the top one hundred.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Don't reach into the early rounds like the old regime Belichick,
- 34:26Speaker 2: let's forget about Mail. Last year regularly did maybe because
- 34:29Speaker 2: they thought their evaluations were so much better than everyone else.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Not worried about the alleged reaches on day three. There
- 34:35Speaker 2: is no such thing as a reach on day three.
- 34:37Speaker 4: In my humble opinion, I love the first part of
- 34:41Speaker 4: that about you know, the consensus was they were strong,
- 34:45Speaker 4: say edge strong running back, and we're gonna lean into that.
- 34:49Speaker 3: We're gonna we're gonna look at you know.
- 34:50Speaker 4: I remember the different years like well, this is this
- 34:54Speaker 4: is like a legendary wide receiver class. We're gonna zag
- 34:57Speaker 4: We're gonna take a wide receiver the following year like that.
- 35:00Speaker 4: That's something that the Patriots did routinely in the latter
- 35:03Speaker 4: part of the Belichick era. The the way they're consensuously ranked,
- 35:07Speaker 4: I don't care as much about because I go by
- 35:10Speaker 4: the NFL teams, not by you know, the mel Kipers
- 35:15Speaker 4: of the world. Now, certainly great when when they marry
- 35:18Speaker 4: and they're they're similar. But these two guys have been
- 35:22Speaker 4: talking to me about running backs and edge guys for
- 35:27Speaker 4: you know, a couple of months, and they they targeted
- 35:30Speaker 4: those positions. I think that that's to me, that's smart.
- 35:33Speaker 4: That's not trying to outsmart everybody, right, that's saying I agree,
- 35:38Speaker 4: these these spots are talented and they're deep, and we're
- 35:40Speaker 4: going to make sure we get somebody that is in
- 35:43Speaker 4: that talented and deep crop. I think that's smart drafting.
- 35:47Speaker 4: It doesn't mean it's gonna work, no, but but there's
- 35:50Speaker 4: logical and I can understand.
- 35:51Speaker 3: What they think.
- 35:53Speaker 5: Like you just said it, Paul, that was I think
- 35:55Speaker 5: I said in Day three. It's just logically everything makes sense.
- 35:58Speaker 5: You know, I think you got to a point where
- 36:00Speaker 5: some of Bill's drafts where you knew there was always
- 36:02Speaker 5: gonna be one pick that like, it's not a need,
- 36:04Speaker 5: it's a guy that was way down everyone else's draft boards.
- 36:07Speaker 5: But Bill must see something, and you know, we all
- 36:09Speaker 5: respect him. So let's just hold our breath and see
- 36:11Speaker 5: what happens. But it was a little harder to talk
- 36:13Speaker 5: glowingly about Tavon Wilson, you know, than it is talking
- 36:17Speaker 5: about why they took Trayvon Henderson or why they took
- 36:19Speaker 5: Kyle Williams. It's just clear needs, and you know, especially
- 36:22Speaker 5: when just everything we talked about like they need to
- 36:24Speaker 5: get explosive, they tried to get explosive. So I just
- 36:27Speaker 5: I there aren't gets nitpicks. I mean making fun of
- 36:30Speaker 5: me about the defense.
- 36:31Speaker 1: It's nitpicks.
- 36:31Speaker 5: It's not like you're not going to get everything every year.
- 36:34Speaker 5: And if you had to like punt on something, all right,
- 36:36Speaker 5: well you're not going to get one of those edges
- 36:37Speaker 5: that this year.
- 36:38Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 36:38Speaker 2: And frankly, this team can't afford to take chances. Yeah,
- 36:42Speaker 2: they needs enough talent that you know, forget about the
- 36:48Speaker 2: developmental guys. Take the guys with the talent or on
- 36:51Speaker 2: tape and then coach him up when they get here.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Floyd and Redford, Michigan. I'm impressed with the draft, but
- 36:57Speaker 2: he says in capital letters. How do we says whether
- 37:00Speaker 2: or not Will Campbell will be a good or bad pick?
- 37:03Speaker 2: If he stays at left tackle and at least becomes
- 37:05Speaker 2: Nate's solder, is a good pick to me. Having to
- 37:08Speaker 2: move him to guard means we once again need a
- 37:10Speaker 2: left tackle, which is not okay with me. How do
- 37:13Speaker 2: we fairly assess Will Campbell?
- 37:17Speaker 3: I mean, if he had to move to guard, he
- 37:19Speaker 3: was an exceptional guard, he was like an all Pro guard.
- 37:23Speaker 3: I mean that's not terrible.
- 37:25Speaker 4: I don't think that's like a bust, but it.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Does mean we still need a tackle.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Right, And that's the unfortunate part. But I think he
- 37:33Speaker 3: needs to be.
- 37:36Speaker 4: I think he would need to be a good tackle
- 37:38Speaker 4: to take with the fourth overall pick. You know, is
- 37:40Speaker 4: Nate Soldier good enough?
- 37:42Speaker 2: Probably?
- 37:43Speaker 3: Probably? Right?
- 37:45Speaker 6: Can we get Matt light out of it?
- 37:48Speaker 5: When I went on a Hearty show the other morning,
- 37:50Speaker 5: Michael Holly asked me if, like, well, if he gets
- 37:51Speaker 5: like one Pro Bowl and he has like ten years,
- 37:54Speaker 5: is that okay, and so I had to go. Look,
- 37:57Speaker 5: so Matt Light and Nate Solder had a Pro Bowl,
- 37:59Speaker 5: just one betweading me Matt Light went once. So if
- 38:03Speaker 5: he is.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Our left tackle for ten years, it's a good pick.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:06Speaker 2: I mean, come on, you shored up a position and
- 38:10Speaker 2: now Paul will say, well, does he play well for
- 38:12Speaker 2: ten years? Well, I believe if he stays for ten years,
- 38:16Speaker 2: he's playing well.
- 38:17Speaker 4: And I'd have a hard time arguing with Yeah, there's
- 38:19Speaker 4: no way he's going to keep his job for ten
- 38:21Speaker 4: years if he's just like you know, twenty fifth and
- 38:24Speaker 4: ps off every year.
- 38:25Speaker 2: You've shored up a position of need for ten years,
- 38:28Speaker 2: right pick.
- 38:28Speaker 5: I would say where some of the nuance might come
- 38:30Speaker 5: is maybe kind of how Paul you felt about Matt
- 38:32Speaker 5: lighte where there are certain matchups, perhaps that as you
- 38:35Speaker 5: get going, you know, this week, we might have some
- 38:39Speaker 5: problems this, you know, like having it to single him
- 38:42Speaker 5: out for help or those kind of things like not ideal,
- 38:44Speaker 5: not ideal, you prefer not to have to worry, or
- 38:46Speaker 5: we got a really long edge.
- 38:48Speaker 4: Rusher because you know, you know, I've been awfully, awfully
- 38:52Speaker 4: positive about his draft, and I feel that way I'm
- 38:55Speaker 4: not putting on an act. I feel strongly that they
- 38:58Speaker 4: took playmakers, and they needed playmakers. What I would be
- 39:02Speaker 4: concerned with is like, if he plays like Matt Light
- 39:05Speaker 4: when at Soldier, how much did Tom Brady make those
- 39:07Speaker 4: guys better than they really were?
- 39:09Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, bust the balls out.
- 39:12Speaker 3: So that's a need.
- 39:13Speaker 4: I need the fourth overall pick to be a better
- 39:15Speaker 4: player than Matt Light. Yeah, you know, ideally, Well that's
- 39:18Speaker 4: and that's what you would hope the fourth overall pick,
- 39:20Speaker 4: that you can stick him on an island with the
- 39:22Speaker 4: best pass rusher in the league.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And I mean is that realistic? Probably not, But.
- 39:26Speaker 3: If you're maybe the gate, But that's if you play
- 39:29Speaker 3: ten years.
- 39:29Speaker 4: I don't want to be having to put Daniel Graham
- 39:31Speaker 4: next to him every time they play Jason Taylor, right right.
- 39:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I don't know. It depends on how
- 39:35Speaker 6: you to answer the question, like how does it look like?
- 39:37Speaker 6: How do you know what's he is?
- 39:39Speaker 12: He?
- 39:40Speaker 6: The player that I compared him to is Jake Matthews
- 39:42Speaker 6: in Atlanta, who is one Pro Bowl ten years, but
- 39:46Speaker 6: he's held down left tackle in Atlanta for a decade
- 39:49Speaker 6: and he's been a really good player. For the Falcons
- 39:51Speaker 6: to take it and a captain and all that kind
- 39:53Speaker 6: of stuff. And you know, the thing that you keep
- 39:55Speaker 6: hearing from everybody, I'm you know, I'm writing the future
- 39:57Speaker 6: on Will Campbell for the website, and people I've talked
- 40:01Speaker 6: to already at LSU and other places, they're just, you know,
- 40:04Speaker 6: this guy comes in and changes the culture of the
- 40:07Speaker 6: offensive line. You know, they really feel like he has
- 40:09Speaker 6: that kind of leadership that he is going to come
- 40:12Speaker 6: in and set a tone and you know, be an
- 40:14Speaker 6: example of work ethic and effort and toughness and all
- 40:19Speaker 6: the things that you look at. Now, if that ends
- 40:22Speaker 6: up manifesting itself in a guard, like is it that
- 40:26Speaker 6: might still be worth it. Like if he's still driving
- 40:29Speaker 6: the rest of the room the way that these people
- 40:31Speaker 6: describe him as, then he could be Zach Martin And like,
- 40:36Speaker 6: are we gonna come here ten years from now and
- 40:38Speaker 6: say bad pick as he's fitted for a red jacket,
- 40:42Speaker 6: Like if he's.
- 40:43Speaker 4: An exceptional guard, Yeah, I'm not gonna kill I'm not
- 40:46Speaker 4: going to kill that pick.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Fred.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I know you've been on that throughout the process, and
- 40:49Speaker 4: I've sort of gone back and forth with you a
- 40:51Speaker 4: little bit on it. But if he's that good as
- 40:53Speaker 4: a guard, you got to find a tackle still. But
- 40:57Speaker 4: at least you got a really really good guard. And
- 40:59Speaker 4: guards are important to uh, they matter, they matter. You
- 41:04Speaker 4: just don't want to have to take one at the
- 41:06Speaker 4: top of them. Have you hugged the guard, you know?
- 41:09Speaker 6: But if he's like the left tackle, like just for
- 41:11Speaker 6: argument's sake, if he's the left tackle for like a
- 41:14Speaker 6: year or two and he's solid, but clearly it projects
- 41:18Speaker 6: that he'd probably be better off inside. And they just
- 41:21Speaker 6: get into a situation where a premium left tackle kind
- 41:26Speaker 6: of falls into their lap. But he held down the
- 41:28Speaker 6: position for a year or two, and then they kicked
- 41:31Speaker 6: them inside because a you know, a Tyron Smith level player,
- 41:35Speaker 6: it just happens to be on the board for them
- 41:37Speaker 6: one year.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Right, Like I then okay, right, he can't argue with that, right, you.
- 41:41Speaker 6: Know, because that's what I see potentially if he's going
- 41:44Speaker 6: to move inside, I think that's what would have to happen.
- 41:47Speaker 4: So in other words, not necessarily, because he just failed
- 41:50Speaker 4: and played the position, you got you had, okay, a tackle,
- 41:55Speaker 4: and then we got an opportunity to upgrade there, and
- 41:57Speaker 4: now we're going to strengthen the left side of the
- 41:59Speaker 4: line by having both of them.
- 42:00Speaker 2: On the left.
- 42:01Speaker 5: Yeah, my algorithm has somehow picked up a bunch of
- 42:04Speaker 5: like Will Campbell high school training videos like that must
- 42:07Speaker 5: be one of his coaches posting him dripping sweat, holding
- 42:11Speaker 5: like a forty five pound plate, like doing leg kicks.
- 42:15Speaker 5: I mean, it looked like Dante Scarnekia putting him through
- 42:17Speaker 5: the drills. And just for me, it kind of brought
- 42:19Speaker 5: everything full circle because when he got so emotional about
- 42:22Speaker 5: everything he had been with, you don't really know what
- 42:25Speaker 5: these guys are doing. But when you see here's Will
- 42:27Speaker 5: Campbell in high school when probably a lot of his
- 42:30Speaker 5: friends weren't doing what he's doing, and he's, you know,
- 42:32Speaker 5: lugging a forty five pound plate up and down the field,
- 42:35Speaker 5: you know, you just it puts a little more context
- 42:37Speaker 5: into his journey. And I just keep going back though
- 42:39Speaker 5: with him. As soon as I heard him talk, I'm like,
- 42:43Speaker 5: this guy is Mike Rabel, Like he is a Rabel
- 42:45Speaker 5: kind of guy. And when you heard Rabel call him,
- 42:47Speaker 5: it sounded exactly like you. You do things the way
- 42:50Speaker 5: we want to do it, and not to me, aside
- 42:52Speaker 5: from the physical talent, just such a culture fit and
- 42:55Speaker 5: such a what like what Evan said, what's needed. It's
- 42:58Speaker 5: like an anchor for this offensive line and to give
- 43:00Speaker 5: them some identity.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Well you you definitely see with how they're building the
- 43:05Speaker 2: roster so far that one of the high priorities is
- 43:10Speaker 2: building that culture. Yeah, absolutely setting up that culture.
- 43:13Speaker 5: I mean, just real quick, I got to see one
- 43:15Speaker 5: other thing, like just contrast last year, and I mean,
- 43:17Speaker 5: I hate to I'm not gonna compliment you again too much, Paul,
- 43:19Speaker 5: but like you know, it was like you just.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Look at the difference between a new regime.
- 43:24Speaker 1: A new regime came in.
- 43:25Speaker 5: This year and it is a totally different team that
- 43:28Speaker 5: they're going to put on the field this year. I mean,
- 43:30Speaker 5: it was we want to put our stamp on it,
- 43:33Speaker 5: and when you look at it in contrast to last year,
- 43:36Speaker 5: it was we're going to try to hold on to
- 43:37Speaker 5: a lot of the pieces and kind of make a
- 43:39Speaker 5: version of what it previously was without you know, doing
- 43:42Speaker 5: what Rabel's doing, which is I'm going to make this
- 43:44Speaker 5: my team. I'm gonna put my stamp on it. I'm
- 43:46Speaker 5: going to put all my guys into into positions to
- 43:49Speaker 5: be successful. So at that to me is just really
- 43:52Speaker 5: been remarkable as we look at the off season as
- 43:54Speaker 5: a whole, with free agency in the draft.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Talking about it a little bit right as 're Abel
- 43:59Speaker 4: took over and Fred, I think you and I did
- 44:02Speaker 4: the two thousand and one thing, Like we talked a
- 44:04Speaker 4: lot about this.
- 44:04Speaker 3: This is going to be an overhaul.
- 44:06Speaker 4: They're gonna there's gonna be a lot of guys that
- 44:08Speaker 4: you're not necessarily expecting to not be a part of
- 44:12Speaker 4: the equation. And there have been a few of those already,
- 44:14Speaker 4: and I think there'll be more Bentley, you know, there'll
- 44:17Speaker 4: be more of those those guys like that. You know,
- 44:19Speaker 4: some that they let go as free agents, Son that
- 44:21Speaker 4: they let go not as free agents, like Andrews and Bentley,
- 44:24Speaker 4: and you know, I mean you just look at the draft.
- 44:28Speaker 4: I mean that they're drafting a kicker, They're drafted a
- 44:30Speaker 4: long snapper. Is probably going to be some of the
- 44:31Speaker 4: specialists are going to turn over to So I'm not
- 44:35Speaker 4: surprised by that. You know, Mike was part of that
- 44:38Speaker 4: two thousand and one class and probably was the the
- 44:43Speaker 4: poster child for that two thousand and one free agent class,
- 44:45Speaker 4: and he saw the impact that it had on the
- 44:47Speaker 4: team right away. Yes, Tom Brady was largely responsible for
- 44:51Speaker 4: the success, but that team was better, well, an old
- 44:55Speaker 4: team was a lot better in one than it was
- 44:57Speaker 4: in two thousand, and that's because Bill a completely overhauled
- 45:00Speaker 4: the roster.
- 45:01Speaker 5: Yeah, why do you think Bill, I mean maybe he didn't,
- 45:03Speaker 5: But why do you think Bill waited until the next
- 45:05Speaker 5: year to do it?
- 45:05Speaker 2: I didn't do a good question.
- 45:07Speaker 4: I'm sure he had enough time, yet he didn't get
- 45:10Speaker 4: all the red tape handled until it was like February.
- 45:12Speaker 4: By the time he really died, he was able to
- 45:16Speaker 4: dive into it. And I also think.
- 45:17Speaker 2: By red tape you mean the league stuff.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Yeah, right now.
- 45:21Speaker 4: I mean clearly he was looking at the Patriots roster
- 45:24Speaker 4: before that. I'm not naive, but I think there were
- 45:27Speaker 4: also some veterans that were involved that maybe he wasn't
- 45:30Speaker 4: necessarily looking to.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Just get get rid of immediately. Some he did. I
- 45:34Speaker 3: think Coats went right away.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but you don't think Earthwind Morland was you know
- 45:39Speaker 2: that was later?
- 45:40Speaker 3: That was like four was that?
- 45:42Speaker 2: Who were the guys in two thousand that were like?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Who are these guys? I forget like he mentioned some
- 45:48Speaker 2: of the names.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Like well, I was thinking more of like the Chris
- 45:52Speaker 4: Slades and the Bruce Armstrongs of the world.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Yeah, probably seen better.
- 45:55Speaker 4: They were right, and you know, and it took him
- 45:57Speaker 4: a little bit to figure out, Okay, this one can
- 45:59Speaker 4: stay out. One needs to go that one in then,
- 46:01Speaker 4: you know, I think it was mostly yeah, you're right,
- 46:03Speaker 4: mostly all one that he got, like the Anthony Pleasants
- 46:06Speaker 4: and the Rick Lyles and the Bobby Hamilton's his guys.
- 46:08Speaker 2: I just remember was that Thanksgiving game in two thousand
- 46:11Speaker 2: in Detroit. What a miserable game. And to me that
- 46:14Speaker 2: was like epitomize like the dearth of talent that that
- 46:19Speaker 2: team had.
- 46:20Speaker 3: They just struggled.
- 46:21Speaker 6: They had some salary cap stuff too, right, and two
- 46:24Speaker 6: thousand and kind of reset the books that year. Maybe
- 46:27Speaker 6: that was why it took a year, because back then
- 46:30Speaker 6: the salary cap was.
- 46:30Speaker 2: A little it's possive, it was a little tougher.
- 46:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it was meaningful then because there was much smaller.
- 46:35Speaker 2: David Bethlehem This is for Evan. Has anyone done retrospective
- 46:40Speaker 2: studies on how various draft rating lists compared to actual
- 46:43Speaker 2: PFF ratings after one year two years? Uh?
- 46:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean there are studies that have been done
- 46:50Speaker 6: like that, and nothing is ever perfect like drafting. If
- 46:54Speaker 6: they just took like someone's consensus media board and drafted
- 46:58Speaker 6: off the consensus media board, there's going to be hits
- 47:00Speaker 6: and misses, just like there are doing it, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 6: a more scientific way. But I will say in recent
- 47:07Speaker 6: years it's been the teams that have drafted based off consensus,
- 47:11Speaker 6: and then also the teams that have had good draft
- 47:14Speaker 6: grades that are mostly based off of what we all
- 47:16Speaker 6: thought of the class going in to the draft, that
- 47:19Speaker 6: have done pretty well for themselves. Not all the time,
- 47:22Speaker 6: but there's data that suggests that that the consensus board
- 47:26Speaker 6: is just as good as NFL evaluators, which is kind
- 47:29Speaker 6: of crazy.
- 47:29Speaker 4: So I was kind of interested in that email, and
- 47:34Speaker 4: I think Evan answered it one way, and I'm wondering
- 47:36Speaker 4: if he was looking for it a different way. He
- 47:39Speaker 4: kind of said, if anybody has ever done any analysis
- 47:42Speaker 4: on the player rankings, you know, the pre draft rankings
- 47:46Speaker 4: and then looking at PFF. So in other words, as
- 47:48Speaker 4: he's saying, like, so they had Will Campbell as you know,
- 47:53Speaker 4: ot one as you kids like to say, right kids,
- 47:57Speaker 4: and then you go, you know whatever, you know, let's
- 47:59Speaker 4: go Campbell, Membo Banks Simmons Now when we look, say,
- 48:08Speaker 4: after two years of PFF rankings, is Campbell the highest
- 48:13Speaker 4: ranked out of that class?
- 48:14Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:15Speaker 4: You know right, that's what I was wondering, if he's,
- 48:18Speaker 4: if he's, if anyone's ever done it.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Two years?
- 48:22Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean as opposed to like teams that follow
- 48:25Speaker 4: the board right how closely?
- 48:27Speaker 3: Because I think that's a thing too.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I think a lot of people starting to analyze is
- 48:30Speaker 4: there a close they are?
- 48:32Speaker 2: I know the pro football focus, is there a college football?
- 48:35Speaker 3: Does college?
- 48:35Speaker 6: Yeah? They do college now, which is actually really helpful,
- 48:38Speaker 6: but yeah, they there's been studies done by the kids
- 48:44Speaker 6: these days as politics to call them, Uh you know,
- 48:46Speaker 6: that suggests that for the most part, the consensus, not
- 48:52Speaker 6: every individual media guy, but the consensus of one hundred
- 48:56Speaker 6: different media people tends to be pretty accurate, right, and
- 49:01Speaker 6: so if you ask the data, you know, That's that's
- 49:04Speaker 6: why these consensus boards have become so popular is because
- 49:08Speaker 6: it's pretty good, Like it's not perfect, but it's pretty
- 49:10Speaker 6: good at judging who the best players are in a
- 49:13Speaker 6: draft and just looking you know, anecdotally, because someone asked
- 49:17Speaker 6: me this on Twitter, so I just kind of looked
- 49:19Speaker 6: back at some of the draft grades in recent years
- 49:21Speaker 6: of Patriots right now have the consensus number one draft
- 49:24Speaker 6: class in the NFL, but how accurate is that really
- 49:28Speaker 6: to projecting forward? And the last couple of years it's
- 49:32Speaker 6: you know, been the Jets in twenty twenty two, that
- 49:35Speaker 6: Garrett Wilson Sauce Gardner draft. You know, twenty three was
- 49:40Speaker 6: Pittsburgh or no Philly sorry, Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith. So
- 49:43Speaker 6: a lot of it's like two first round picks or
- 49:45Speaker 6: two high picks, you know, at the top of the
- 49:48Speaker 6: draft at help. But for the most part, you know,
- 49:50Speaker 6: they it's been pretty pretty good. And then the teams
- 49:53Speaker 6: that draft the most based off the consensus, Philly Baltimore
- 49:58Speaker 6: like teams like that are some of the teams that
- 50:00Speaker 6: we all consider the best drafting teams going in the NFL.
- 50:04Speaker 6: It always seems like Baltimore has some consensus great player
- 50:07Speaker 6: that you know as their first round pack. It was
- 50:09Speaker 6: Malchi Starks this year, and he'll probably be just like
- 50:12Speaker 6: Kyle hamilton'll they'll both be studs.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 50:14Speaker 6: So I'm not saying it's perfect, but there's a good day.
- 50:18Speaker 4: I can tell you definitively. I've spoken to people inside
- 50:22Speaker 4: the building. They do analysis of the Monks.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 50:28Speaker 4: You know, when when the draft is over, they get
- 50:31Speaker 4: a bunch of different you know, you know, the higher
- 50:34Speaker 4: profile guys in some of the lower profile guys, and
- 50:37Speaker 4: they figure out who was close and who wasn't, and
- 50:40Speaker 4: they lean on that data moving forward.
- 50:42Speaker 5: I just keep thinking about a player like Josh Simmons, though,
- 50:45Speaker 5: who wouldn't have made sense for the Patriots, but could
- 50:48Speaker 5: end up being the best tackle in the class. And
- 50:49Speaker 5: then when you look back on it, well, did they
- 50:51Speaker 5: have the ranking wrong or you know, was.
- 50:53Speaker 1: It just special circumstance.
- 50:55Speaker 4: Gronk exactly like Gronk everybody loved except for Greg Bdard.
- 51:01Speaker 4: And you know, obviously I'm not killing all the teams
- 51:04Speaker 4: that didn't take Gronk.
- 51:05Speaker 3: In the first round. There's an obvious.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Reason why Gronk wasn't selected in the first round, you know.
- 51:10Speaker 4: So that's that part that has to be part of
- 51:12Speaker 4: the equator.
- 51:13Speaker 6: George Pickens is another one. Like everybody looks back on
- 51:16Speaker 6: that Taekwon draft and George Pickens. I think Pickens might
- 51:18Speaker 6: have went to pick after two picks later. It was
- 51:20Speaker 6: very very clear.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Wide receivers right after.
- 51:24Speaker 6: But at the time, you know, in the moment. Pickens
- 51:27Speaker 6: had some real concerns about his character and about his makeup,
- 51:30Speaker 6: and it was you know, it was a young football
- 51:32Speaker 6: team and a team with the second year quarterback, and
- 51:35Speaker 6: they just didn't feel comfortable. And I'd say the same
- 51:38Speaker 6: thing about Luther Burden, Like Luther Burden might very well
- 51:41Speaker 6: go on in Chicago and be a hell of a
- 51:42Speaker 6: football player, but he had concerns coming out of college.
- 51:46Speaker 6: There was a reason that they passed on Luther Burden
- 51:48Speaker 6: and took Treyvon Henderson. It wasn't just because they thought
- 51:51Speaker 6: he was a better.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Player, right Luther. Thinking of Luther Ryan and Atlanta, I'm
- 51:58Speaker 2: super happy with the Pagris draft. They did a job
- 52:00Speaker 2: getting good players at good value. And I can't remember
- 52:02Speaker 2: when the national media was this high on the Patriots.
- 52:06Speaker 3: My question, Nobe, the last year Belichick was here, Elliott Wolf.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Looked like a different person in the media this year
- 52:11Speaker 2: compared to last year. Do you think he sticks around
- 52:13Speaker 2: after what seems to be a successful draft cycle. I
- 52:16Speaker 2: do so. I wanted to bring this up. I mean,
- 52:20Speaker 2: he he said that for him, this regime made the
- 52:24Speaker 2: process that much easy for him, Like it was just
- 52:27Speaker 2: much more organized than last year. So that was Elliot
- 52:31Speaker 2: Wolf talking about the effect of the new regime at him.
- 52:35Speaker 2: And I've also heard insiders say that Elliott Wolf did
- 52:39Speaker 2: an amazing job with this draft that you know, he
- 52:41Speaker 2: ran that room. This was this was his draft. You know,
- 52:44Speaker 2: we all talked about, oh, you know, Rabel has the
- 52:46Speaker 2: final say, I'm told Wolf ran this draft and this
- 52:50Speaker 2: was his draft, and so all signs point to him
- 52:55Speaker 2: going nowhere.
- 52:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he's the first guy talking to the
- 52:58Speaker 5: to the prospects right when they were have to you know,
- 53:00Speaker 5: first from him to too Rabel and onto mister Kraft.
- 53:03Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean I think he's here to stay.
- 53:06Speaker 5: And it seems like from the weekend they talked about
- 53:09Speaker 5: having some discussion about we want this guy with you know,
- 53:12Speaker 5: active productive disagreement, which is the next step in this.
- 53:17Speaker 5: When they all started, they said, you know it's not
- 53:19Speaker 5: going all be sunshine and rainbows and'ro can agree on everything.
- 53:21Speaker 5: So it seems like this group's coming together. You've heard
- 53:24Speaker 5: it from Cowden and Vrabel. It is a miss a
- 53:26Speaker 5: mishmash of you know, some different holdover people, people that
- 53:30Speaker 5: like Ryan Cowden was with the Giants, So you have
- 53:31Speaker 5: a lot of different pieces coming in, had to expect
- 53:34Speaker 5: to take a little time to settle in, but successful draft.
- 53:37Speaker 1: That's a good sign.
- 53:38Speaker 2: PS from Ryan. Can someone tell Felga to quit complaining
- 53:42Speaker 2: about this draft class, especially when he can't even enunciate
- 53:44Speaker 2: the player's names correctly. I feel like all that guy
- 53:47Speaker 2: does is spread pessimism over the team and he will
- 53:50Speaker 2: never be happy with what they do. Paul, Yeah, tell
- 53:53Speaker 2: them to be accurate.
- 53:56Speaker 6: That's it, That's all I asked for. He can have
- 53:58Speaker 6: whatever opinion you want. But when he says, oh, you
- 54:01Speaker 6: know they draft a kicker and a long snapper and
- 54:04Speaker 6: they only had eight picks, well, no, they had eleven picks.
- 54:07Speaker 6: They didn't have eight picks, you know, Like it just
- 54:10Speaker 6: things like the difference. Yeah, Like that's a big difference
- 54:12Speaker 6: when you use a seventh round pick on a long
- 54:14Speaker 6: snapper and you've already drafted ten guys, Like it's not
- 54:18Speaker 6: really like you're you're wasting.
- 54:20Speaker 3: Such a golden gem.
- 54:21Speaker 4: And you know me, I can get wound up about
- 54:23Speaker 4: it pretty much anything. I just can't lose my mind
- 54:26Speaker 4: over like these like sixth and seventh round picks, Like.
- 54:30Speaker 3: You like, do I think they should have taken a
- 54:32Speaker 3: long snapper. No, but who cares? Like, why are you
- 54:35Speaker 3: so upset about the two hundredth pick of the draft?
- 54:39Speaker 5: Well, you're consistent, Paul, because a lot of people go
- 54:40Speaker 5: the other way and are like, we got.
- 54:42Speaker 1: This guy in the seventh round.
- 54:43Speaker 3: Manah, I don't know the little flyer every guy.
- 54:46Speaker 4: That's why it was only a little bit tongue in cheek,
- 54:48Speaker 4: like when was the last time they were universally applauded,
- 54:50Speaker 4: Like Belichick, I'm telling you, year after year after year,
- 54:54Speaker 4: would you draft these guys? And it was like hey, hey, hey,
- 54:57Speaker 4: because Bill took them and they had to be really
- 55:00Speaker 4: with day with diamonds in the rough on Day three,
- 55:02Speaker 4: even though the last ten years of his tenure there
- 55:05Speaker 4: weren't too many diamonds on the rough. Coming out of
- 55:07Speaker 4: the draft. He was struggling. As Mike, you know, has
- 55:10Speaker 4: gone to great links to point out over the years.
- 55:13Speaker 6: Well you just can't have it both ways, Like you
- 55:14Speaker 6: can't get on them for drafting a long snapper. But
- 55:17Speaker 6: then also every six and seventh round pick is meaningless, right,
- 55:21Speaker 6: Like you have to be consistent.
- 55:23Speaker 4: Well, that's why that's why I don't care snapper and
- 55:25Speaker 4: I don't care about six and seventh row.
- 55:27Speaker 6: But for every time that you know, someone comes in
- 55:30Speaker 6: here and hypes up a di Mario Douglas getting drafted
- 55:33Speaker 6: in the sixth round, and you get, oh, it's a
- 55:35Speaker 6: sixth round pick, Like, what does it matter? And then
- 55:37Speaker 6: like some of the Mike on Wendy, like some of
- 55:39Speaker 6: those guys do go on to be decent football players.
- 55:41Speaker 4: And that would be my argument he cannot take in
- 55:43Speaker 4: the long snapper would be that like, yeah, I know
- 55:45Speaker 4: it's a one out of ten, one out of twenty,
- 55:48Speaker 4: but I'll take that. Like whereas my long snapper, I
- 55:51Speaker 4: can just sign. There's a million of them out there.
- 55:53Speaker 13: Now.
- 55:53Speaker 4: Again, the kicker, to me is a little different. The
- 55:56Speaker 4: kicker was a little different. You didn't really have a
- 55:58Speaker 4: kicker on the roster. And if you identif find this
- 56:00Speaker 4: guy as the best, which as Evan has said, we
- 56:03Speaker 4: talked about it in our show that we did before
- 56:05Speaker 4: a pre show, everybody had that guy number one. So
- 56:11Speaker 4: if you thought he was that much better than everybody else,
- 56:13Speaker 4: take him what he had eleven picks, use one of
- 56:15Speaker 4: the thing and make sure.
- 56:16Speaker 6: You get tomorrow.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Baltimore was probably gonna take you.
- 56:19Speaker 3: So the only thing the only thing I would worry
- 56:21Speaker 3: about again, because you know, I'm contractedly obliated to be concerned.
- 56:25Speaker 4: He's a kicker from Miami. He's got a kick up here.
- 56:28Speaker 4: It's a big difference, that's true.
- 56:30Speaker 6: It's got a boomer though.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a big difference though in the elements.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 56:39Speaker 1: Good one?
- 56:39Speaker 8: Hey today, good.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Question.
- 56:44Speaker 14: I know it's already been hacked. You bring it, but
- 56:46Speaker 14: out here I get you well anyway, wide receiver room,
- 56:53Speaker 14: and he was talking about the undrafted the day sign
- 56:57Speaker 14: and some of them gave him raised on the receivers
- 57:00Speaker 14: that they did get so, and I don't think Met
- 57:03Speaker 14: Collins might be out no besides the original ones, or
- 57:08Speaker 14: do you think anybody else in the class might just
- 57:11Speaker 14: step up and show him to eight. I'm here and
- 57:14Speaker 14: now take it off there.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Okay, have a good day now you too.
- 57:18Speaker 6: Yeah. So the receiver he's talking about is Efton Chisholm,
- 57:21Speaker 6: who they signed from Eastern Washington as an undrafted free agent.
- 57:25Speaker 6: And I watched a little bit of his tape yesterday
- 57:26Speaker 6: and he's a McDaniel's jitterbug slot Like this guy is exactly,
- 57:33Speaker 6: Like it's like shades of like Riley McCarron, right, like
- 57:37Speaker 6: all over again, great like agility testing at his pro
- 57:41Speaker 6: day iran a sub seven three cone you know, eightieth
- 57:44Speaker 6: percentile type agility numbers really quick, not fast, but quick,
- 57:48Speaker 6: and you know, jitterbuggy and tough to cover in tight spaces.
- 57:53Speaker 6: Like literally every cliche that you could come up with
- 57:56Speaker 6: is what Efton Chisholm is like, So you know he's
- 58:00Speaker 6: he's McDaniel. Like, there's no doubt in my mind that
- 58:04Speaker 6: Josh McDaniel scouted Afton Chisholm and said, can we side
- 58:08Speaker 6: this guy?
- 58:09Speaker 2: And don't forget once training camp's over, they're gonna have
- 58:11Speaker 2: to fill out a practice squad. Yeah, you know, so
- 58:14Speaker 2: these guys may not make, you know, wide receivers, they
- 58:16Speaker 2: may not make the roster, but you need to have
- 58:18Speaker 2: that practice squad too. I just think, how big is
- 58:21Speaker 2: it now?
- 58:21Speaker 5: Sixteen sixteen Again, when you're desperate, you need to throw
- 58:25Speaker 5: a lot at the wall. And that's why I like
- 58:27Speaker 5: having a packed depth chart. Doesn't mean any of those
- 58:30Speaker 5: guys are going to emerge, but maybe the competition will
- 58:34Speaker 5: be enough that like again, the message to Javon Baker
- 58:37Speaker 5: is like, dude, you better bring it because if you don't,
- 58:39Speaker 5: you're going to be out.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Let's go to Arizona.
- 58:42Speaker 3: Cole.
- 58:43Speaker 2: What's up?
- 58:43Speaker 3: Cole?
- 58:46Speaker 2: Hey?
- 58:46Speaker 15: How you doing? Can you guys hear me? Okay, yeah,
- 58:50Speaker 15: I'm sorry sport to start off by saying, I second
- 58:52Speaker 15: that ps about Felder. It's about the millionth power. But anyways,
- 58:57Speaker 15: about why I called I of the Will Campbell pick
- 59:01Speaker 15: day one after the draft last year, I was baying,
- 59:04Speaker 15: I was btt in the table for him, and then
- 59:06Speaker 15: watching Venerian Lowe and Montre Jacobs last year just solidified
- 59:11Speaker 15: my opinion on that pick. And then so I got
- 59:14Speaker 15: a question going into the Gonzo Draft, if I would
- 59:17Speaker 15: have told you three years straight you would get your cornerstone, corner, quarterback,
- 59:22Speaker 15: and left tackle. I know that's a little bit fold
- 59:24Speaker 15: on Will Campbell, but you know, if he is like
- 59:26Speaker 15: that Jake Matthews type that Evan said, I will sign
- 59:30Speaker 15: up for that.
- 59:31Speaker 4: I will sign up for that. If they get three
- 59:32Speaker 4: cornerstones and threat drafts. Right now, I'm pretty sure they
- 59:36Speaker 4: have one of those three.
- 59:38Speaker 16: Yeah, yeah, I would agree with Dotto, And I know
- 59:42Speaker 16: take that with a grain of salt. Those other picks
- 59:44Speaker 16: haven't been let's just say the best. But and I
- 59:47Speaker 16: got one question, then I'll take it off air. When
- 59:49Speaker 16: can we get harder on the show? I miss him,
- 59:52Speaker 16: just him his fency humor, picking on Eric. I'll take
- 59:55Speaker 16: it off air.
- 59:56Speaker 2: But who did he say? Who called hardo? Oh? Is
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: that okay? Heart?
- 1:00:02Speaker 8: Oh?
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: I just you know, because we were talking about the
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: roster and stuff, we should probably just give a little
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: uh the release of the six players yesterday it was
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: it was Jake Andrews, Marcus Harris, Jaquay Jackson. That's Mike's
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: favorite because Mike is evidently goes well down the death
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: shot at wide receiving Mike Uh, Titus Leo, Mark Perry,
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: and Giovanni Ricci.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: So of course they got to get rid of the Italian.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: He's he's like a full back, and they they're signing
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: brock LAMPI.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: I saw, you know the name full back back baby.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Okay, it's amazing they didn't have to use like a
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: fourth round pick on that nice stunner.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: I saw yesterday. You know, they ran a power lead
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: and then they ran play action right after off the
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: lead action, and I was like, yeah, full back's back.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: There we go.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Have you have you watched any of it? Was it
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: lann len Larisson? Is that?
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: A little bit?
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: You know, it's funny because like I compared Chisholm to
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: like Ryley McCarron and those guys. This guy's like Danny
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: Wood Danny Woodhead, right, Like he's just another one of these.
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: Uh you know why bug small school running backs did
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: have some pretty good tape against cal So, Like he
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: had like one FBS game from last year. I was
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: able to get my hands on that he he played
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: pretty well in. But it's like all it's too funny,
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: Like all of those stereotypes are coming back now that
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: Josh is back. It's you know, the Danny Woodhead running back,
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: the Ryley McCarron, you know, Austin Carr, Gunner Ol Chefsky
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: slot receivers like that. It's all all of those things
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: are back.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: You know how I give you the I played the
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: hits of the slot receivers. Evan plays a whole different cast.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: That's how many of those guys that I've had, Yeah,
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: the Austin car and Gunneryl Schevsky.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: Yeah, this guy reminded me of so much of like
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: Riley McCarran. Like, I was, like, this is a carbon
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: copy of Riley McCarron.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: All right, Uh so we're all gushing about the draft, Trevor,
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: and Missouria is going to bring us back down to earth.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: I think we have a visitor.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Oh okay, well we'll hold off on reading that email.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: We've got somebody here, okay, so why don't we bring
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: him in? Hi, come on, hey.
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: That guy.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Hey, guys, bring him in. Open the door.
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: All right, Aaron there you.
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: Right, curse right.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: Nice to meet, and thank you for saying your name
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: because I've heard it pronounced about a million ways Kylevon
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: so Calevon.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: I told you don't ever know the name. I told
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: you don't trust those pronunciations.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: I know you're right. Well, welcome, thank you, thanks for
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: joining us. So how's it going so far?
- 1:02:41Speaker 8: Fantastic, fantastic. I'm excited to be a part of it.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: You got some tigers coming in.
- 1:02:46Speaker 17: Yeah, we're going big with it. I feel like Boston
- 1:02:48Speaker 17: has a thing for about your baby. Hell yeah, bring
- 1:02:50Speaker 17: them on.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: In one my l s U.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I have a lot of them. Have a purple one,
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: a grayish one with some yellow color.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Big Tiger.
- 1:03:00Speaker 8: That's go and do that. Do that.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: That's a tough gold.
- 1:03:03Speaker 8: That's a that's a tough gold.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I gotta tell you Yellow.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: So have you had a chance to talk to Campbell
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: at all? And just like you know, Tiger to Tiger, No,
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I haven't got a chance. I wanted to catch him
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: in the build. I'm sure his phone going crazy.
- 1:03:18Speaker 17: Yeah, there's a bunch of contexts and so I definitely
- 1:03:21Speaker 17: want to catch him in the building and just obviously
- 1:03:22Speaker 17: get good introduced into each other. Obviously, I kept up
- 1:03:25Speaker 17: with him through his time and other shoes, so super excited.
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: To have him.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: Did you have any relationship with any of the guys
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: you know? No, not five years.
- 1:03:32Speaker 17: Yeah, I didn't get a chance to go back and
- 1:03:34Speaker 17: get it go back obviously and be with the team
- 1:03:36Speaker 17: as much as I wanted to. But I'm super familiar
- 1:03:39Speaker 17: with the guys, so I always get good a chance
- 1:03:41Speaker 17: to watch the game. So I'm huge fans of everybody
- 1:03:43Speaker 17: that's getting chance.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: I know these guys are going to have some more ski.
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: I know you'll have scheme related questions, but I want
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: to ask you specifically.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: He doesn't know yet. They haven't started.
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: Okay, I got past.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: Questions real quick though with the l s U stuff,
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: because we talked a lot with Will and then he
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: has like the number seven. It's like that playmate thing
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: that started with Patrick Peterson. You were eighteen.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Isn't that a significant number for LSU two?
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: Yes?
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Can you explain that a little bit?
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: No?
- 1:04:08Speaker 17: Most definitely, So eighteen I was I was voted on
- 1:04:10Speaker 17: upon the team, the team and guy and staff and
- 1:04:13Speaker 17: around the building and just it definitely it solidifies and
- 1:04:17Speaker 17: it kind of shows and me and another guy, little
- 1:04:19Speaker 17: Christian Berry, I was centered.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: We both we shared it that year.
- 1:04:22Speaker 17: But it just kind of exemplifies the leadership and the
- 1:04:26Speaker 17: character that that the LSU Tigers kind of trying to
- 1:04:29Speaker 17: represent and we try to implement. Obviously just going through
- 1:04:32Speaker 17: the program. So obviously it was a super super appreciative
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: thing and grateful to be able to just receive that.
- 1:04:38Speaker 17: Called me off guard a little bit and not saying
- 1:04:39Speaker 17: that I didn't feel like I was truly available capable
- 1:04:42Speaker 17: of it. But when you think of it, man, it's
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: just a great guys. They got a chance to wear
- 1:04:47Speaker 17: that and you don't take that, take that, take that
- 1:04:49Speaker 17: for granted. So to be able to be a part
- 1:04:52Speaker 17: of that history to wear that number just and always
- 1:04:54Speaker 17: be ish and Stoneman.
- 1:04:55Speaker 8: I'm super grateful to be a part of that.
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: I love those traditions on the sucker for those Yeah,
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: absolute the college number thing that you know, like William
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: McGinnis fifty five with your junior says of those traditions.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I got an issue with a duel carter, but he
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: did all right, that's for another that's for another show.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: He basically said, I shot my shot.
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: I heard shot that was.
- 1:05:17Speaker 17: That was a full court shot.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: A good way to put it.
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: Paul's being modest by the way. He loved you coming
- 1:05:26Speaker 6: out of the draft, and he when we signed you
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: as a free agent, Paul is like he finally came
- 1:05:32Speaker 6: back around.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: There.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: He got people making fun of me for being a fanboy.
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: I just I did want to ask you about some
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: of the early impressions of coach Rable and coach Trell
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: Williams and all the guys and everything. What are your
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: early impressions since you've been in the building of the
- 1:05:51Speaker 6: coaching staff.
- 1:05:52Speaker 17: Man, super appreciated to be around coaching staff like this.
- 1:05:55Speaker 17: A lot of former players, a lot of guys who
- 1:05:57Speaker 17: know the game real well be able to teach you
- 1:06:00Speaker 17: way that allows you to implement your own style and
- 1:06:02Speaker 17: still get the job done. So obviously, with very well
- 1:06:05Speaker 17: being the ex player, a guy who's played my position,
- 1:06:08Speaker 17: who's who's one who's who has some success and longevity
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: in the league, he understands that the al the job
- 1:06:15Speaker 17: can be done in many ways. You know, obviously that
- 1:06:17Speaker 17: there's a certain style and identity that we want to
- 1:06:19Speaker 17: play with, but obviously there's a technique that there a
- 1:06:22Speaker 17: lot of everybody obviously, when it comes to the physical
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: skill set and just kind of what you possess and
- 1:06:26Speaker 17: kind of how you see the game, you kind of
- 1:06:29Speaker 17: just everybody kind of has their own way of going
- 1:06:31Speaker 17: about it. So and he allows that, He allows the
- 1:06:33Speaker 17: room to kind of just be yourself and kind of
- 1:06:35Speaker 17: go out there and play ball. So super pleased to
- 1:06:39Speaker 17: to to have that and have that that that longer leash,
- 1:06:43Speaker 17: as you may say, to kind of go out there
- 1:06:45Speaker 17: and to be dominant.
- 1:06:46Speaker 8: And it's been great so far.
- 1:06:48Speaker 17: Man, He's been such a huge help him, Coach Williams,
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: my coach, coach Smitty just kind of just being there
- 1:06:54Speaker 17: step by step. Man, I feel like I'm kind of
- 1:06:56Speaker 17: being just that annoying pest a little bit, just asking
- 1:06:58Speaker 17: so many questions, just trying to especially the vaibel. I mean,
- 1:07:01Speaker 17: you've done it, you know what I'm saying. Like, you've
- 1:07:03Speaker 17: done what I'm trying to do. You've been next to
- 1:07:05Speaker 17: obviously another great pass rusher itself and kind of just
- 1:07:08Speaker 17: being dominant. So you know what it takes to win
- 1:07:10Speaker 17: championships and get there. So man, I'm soaking in everything
- 1:07:14Speaker 17: about this moment and I love everything that came with it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: I've ever heard that he's so hyper detailed that like
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: he'll have something about like your hand placement or your
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: footwork or some of minute detail. Has he done anything
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: like that with you yet?
- 1:07:27Speaker 8: Definitely? Definitely. Yeah.
- 1:07:28Speaker 17: So it's just hand placement, like as you're speaking of
- 1:07:31Speaker 17: pad level, Like he'll just will be in admitted any
- 1:07:33Speaker 17: drill and he saw something that was in special teams
- 1:07:35Speaker 17: and he's like, hold on, hold, let me step to
- 1:07:37Speaker 17: the side, and kind of just I can't get it
- 1:07:39Speaker 17: off my mind. I got to show you. I got
- 1:07:40Speaker 17: to make sure you know the right way, and because
- 1:07:42Speaker 17: it will be a failure on both our parts. In
- 1:07:44Speaker 17: his part, he feels like itself. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:07:46Speaker 17: if he don't give us the right technique and the
- 1:07:48Speaker 17: right you know what I'm saying, right skill sell or
- 1:07:49Speaker 17: the tool bag to go out there.
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: And out dominant perform.
- 1:07:51Speaker 17: So, Man, he's been super super critical in detailed when
- 1:07:55Speaker 17: it comes to the minor things and what you should be. Obviously,
- 1:07:58Speaker 17: it starts nowt it starts to so when everythings kind
- 1:08:01Speaker 17: of get tough or whatever, we hit our adversity and
- 1:08:03Speaker 17: whenever it comes during the season, we just go back
- 1:08:05Speaker 17: to this time of the year when we just dig
- 1:08:07Speaker 17: into our foundation that we building, our fundamentals and everything
- 1:08:10Speaker 17: and take care of yourself from them.
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: I want to ask you about last year, I mean
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: your most productive year in the league. What kind of
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: came together last year for you and how do you
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: feel like you can build on it here in New
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: England this year?
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: Definitely.
- 1:08:20Speaker 17: I'm just getting a chance just to take in the
- 1:08:22Speaker 17: nuggets that I've been gaining all over the years. Man,
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: each I've gotten a chance to play next to a
- 1:08:26Speaker 17: pro bowler and Josh Allen, Man I've gotten checks.
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: And play too.
- 1:08:30Speaker 17: I think it's a future Hall of Famer and Max Crosby.
- 1:08:33Speaker 17: So each person that I'm getting a chance to be
- 1:08:35Speaker 17: I'm getting great coaches and I'm just taking nuggets. I'm
- 1:08:37Speaker 17: putting them all in my toolbox, and I'm just trying
- 1:08:39Speaker 17: to figure out which way is my way and that
- 1:08:42Speaker 17: can get me to have the success and for personal
- 1:08:45Speaker 17: and team success. So last year, getting a chance to
- 1:08:47Speaker 17: have that opportunity to go out there and perform it
- 1:08:50Speaker 17: definitely helps. Having a dominant pastres on opposite in and
- 1:08:53Speaker 17: gain that attention where you have these one on one
- 1:08:54Speaker 17: battles and then you just have to go out there
- 1:08:56Speaker 17: and just be better than the man across you. And
- 1:08:58Speaker 17: I feel like my coaching and my preparation is definitely
- 1:09:00Speaker 17: put me in a way of walking out dominate my
- 1:09:02Speaker 17: opponent in any one on one matchup. So when it
- 1:09:05Speaker 17: came to last year, it was definitely just a sense
- 1:09:07Speaker 17: of this man, understand which opportunity is and go produce.
- 1:09:10Speaker 8: So I was super excited for it.
- 1:09:12Speaker 17: I didn't make sure I didn't take anything anything for granted,
- 1:09:15Speaker 17: and I just went out there and tried to give
- 1:09:16Speaker 17: everything I had.
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: Were the differences in the schemes that you had in
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: Jacksonville as opposed to last year.
- 1:09:22Speaker 8: Yeah, Yeah, definitely a difference. Last year was a four
- 1:09:24Speaker 8: to three defense.
- 1:09:25Speaker 17: Jacksonville was a multiple defense, so it was a lot
- 1:09:27Speaker 17: of outsiur linebackers kind of like somebody's going somebody's not
- 1:09:30Speaker 17: a hybrid. They played out, but I mean even still
- 1:09:33Speaker 17: just kind of nowadays, everybody's kind of playing more sub front,
- 1:09:36Speaker 17: you know, just kind of getting down to the fidawn front.
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: But how it was.
- 1:09:40Speaker 17: Just last year in Vegas, It's like, man, there's no
- 1:09:43Speaker 17: even thinking about it. You got the best pass rushing
- 1:09:45Speaker 17: in the league. They fell in Max Crosby and you
- 1:09:47Speaker 17: have another pass rusher and they feel like it's dominant
- 1:09:49Speaker 17: as well. They can win the one on ones. Let's
- 1:09:51Speaker 17: start with their and that'll erect the game itself, and
- 1:09:54Speaker 17: we're kind of figure out everything else on the back end.
- 1:09:56Speaker 17: So obviously the team's successful is where we wanted to be.
- 1:10:00Speaker 17: But when it comes to I feel like the Pastors
- 1:10:02Speaker 17: production that it definitely produced a lot for sure.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Do you like coming off the left or right side?
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: What do you prefer?
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: I like getting to the quarterback matter, just know where
- 1:10:12Speaker 8: I'm at.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: Okay, off the field. Have you had a chance to
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: settle into New England yet? How familiar were you with
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: the area before you got here? And what's your impressions
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: of living in New England so far.
- 1:10:24Speaker 17: I'm still justin. I'm still adjusting. I'm trying to figure
- 1:10:26Speaker 17: it out. Definitely trying to figure out the weather here.
- 1:10:33Speaker 17: I think that's just something I'm just gonna have to
- 1:10:35Speaker 17: just accept whatever the day comes with. But then I'm
- 1:10:38Speaker 17: still adjusted, just trying to get familiar with the areas
- 1:10:41Speaker 17: around and kind of where to be at and not be.
- 1:10:44Speaker 17: But everybody's been super nice and definitely accepting here, and
- 1:10:48Speaker 17: I'm super appreciative. I think I get a chance to
- 1:10:49Speaker 17: go to my first Celtics game today, so I'm looking
- 1:10:52Speaker 17: forward to seeing what that atmosphere is like and kind
- 1:10:54Speaker 17: of just.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Don't mess around down.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Have you watched that Celtics City documentary that's on HBO
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: now didn't get a chance to, Well, if you wanted
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: a good history of the Celtics, I would recommend it.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to definitely put that on the team.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Are you Are you an NBA fan? Yeah?
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm a huge You.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: Would be in the NBA if you weren't playing in
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: the NFL. I assume, like all the rest of the players.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Since you've never lived here, I'm assuming Celtics. What's who's
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: your team from Houston? So I'm always rocking with the Rockets, man.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: So we took it up yesterday. But we got a
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: game tomorrow, man, so looking forward to seeing how we
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: come out. Okay, I would have to. I was there.
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: You got one of ours an email coaching the thing.
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: Who was that sidebar?
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: That was?
- 1:11:47Speaker 8: Never mind?
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: Like three rawlins he was playing for Atlanta.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Went, I thought it was Houston. Never mind.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: We got a pololize about that.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's tough keeping the dream, that's all.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: Yeah, t mac man, come, I'll ask football.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: Drag us down.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: Uh used the double swipe a lot, and I'm just curious,
- 1:12:13Speaker 6: you know what, what do you like so much about
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: that move? And what's it like? Sack and Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:12:28Speaker 17: But I mean, don't it's a it's a great move.
- 1:12:31Speaker 17: I think it's an opportunity. They get a chance to
- 1:12:33Speaker 17: get your shoulders towards the quarterback and get you to
- 1:12:35Speaker 17: see the quarterback. That's the biggest thing part of the
- 1:12:37Speaker 17: past shorts and kind of just knowing obviously you're going
- 1:12:40Speaker 17: to get somebody who's back towards quarterback. He never knows
- 1:12:42Speaker 17: where he's really stepping up, stepping back, moving. So once
- 1:12:46Speaker 17: you kind of get those shoulders and those hips turned
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: towards the quarterback, and that kind of puts you in
- 1:12:49Speaker 17: a great position how you want to go power, go
- 1:12:51Speaker 17: outside of still, or kind of take it back inside
- 1:12:54Speaker 17: wherever you may go.
- 1:12:55Speaker 8: So it gives you a lot of options.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: For sure.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: I think the Chiefs they signed the tackle and they
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: drafted because you kept on, we got it, we gotta
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: do something.
- 1:13:04Speaker 8: You got to fix that. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Well that's great, listen. I know you've got other things
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: to do. You're busy, but we really appreciate you coming
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: in and now that you know we're here, anytime you
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: want to stop it.

- 1:13:17Speaker 17: I do appreciate that we do restaurant.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Reviews, movie reviews, whatever you want.
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: I need the restaurant list, for sure.
- 1:13:23Speaker 17: I need to get that kind of start from there
- 1:13:25Speaker 17: and give me all the Boston history. I'm starting with
- 1:13:29Speaker 17: the what's it called Celtic Celtic City. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:13:34Speaker 17: start with that. I'm having to maybe catch it on
- 1:13:36Speaker 17: the plane ride and kind of see it.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: It's good. I think it's like eight nine episodes.
- 1:13:40Speaker 8: Keep you busy for that's good work. That's good work
- 1:13:43Speaker 8: for sure.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Okay, hey, thank you, thank you.
- 1:13:46Speaker 8: No, I appreciate you guys, thank you all so much.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Thanks for coming in.

- 1:16:02Speaker 13: First off, for any questions, I just want to, you know,
- 1:16:04Speaker 13: say a special thank you to the Crafts, the entire
- 1:16:08Speaker 13: Patriots coaching staff. It's a complete honor and privilege to
- 1:16:13Speaker 13: represent this organization. I'm super excited to be a part
- 1:16:18Speaker 13: of this and I'm looking forward to what the future holds.
- 1:16:21Speaker 13: And Wing open up with some questions.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: Well, I quote very passionately sorry about that night. Last night.
- 1:16:32Speaker 10: You spoke very passionately about a conversation you had with
- 1:16:36Speaker 10: Elliott Wolfe in week five of last year where you
- 1:16:39Speaker 10: said New England is where I want to go to.
- 1:16:40Speaker 10: New England is where I want to play. What was
- 1:16:43Speaker 10: the spark maybe behind that passion? And given the fact
- 1:16:46Speaker 10: that there's a whole new coaching staff here, I don't
- 1:16:48Speaker 10: think Drake had even played at that point. What caused
- 1:16:51Speaker 10: you to think that way? And I guess that is
- 1:16:54Speaker 10: this the culmination of that conversation?
- 1:16:56Speaker 13: Yeah, I think you know, the biggest thing for me
- 1:16:59Speaker 13: was I wanted to play for an organization that had history,
- 1:17:03Speaker 13: that cared, that wants to win. That's the thing for me.
- 1:17:06Speaker 13: I want to come in and I want to win,
- 1:17:08Speaker 13: and I want to do whatever it takes to help
- 1:17:09Speaker 13: the team win. And you know, Drake is a heck
- 1:17:12Speaker 13: of a player. I'm super excited to, you know, build
- 1:17:16Speaker 13: our relationship. Coach Brabele is a guy that I want
- 1:17:19Speaker 13: to play for. This is an organization, you know, the
- 1:17:22Speaker 13: proof is in the pudding with this place, and that's
- 1:17:25Speaker 13: something that I want to be a part of. So
- 1:17:27Speaker 13: for me to be able to represent you know, this
- 1:17:29Speaker 13: organization where that logo on the side of my helmet
- 1:17:32Speaker 13: and on the front of my jersey, it's everything I
- 1:17:35Speaker 13: could ever ask for.
- 1:17:37Speaker 20: You go ah, hey, well over here, welcome to New England.
- 1:17:41Speaker 20: Congratulations and getting drafted. Coach Rabel told us yesterday about
- 1:17:45Speaker 20: your workout. You know, we know we had the blocking
- 1:17:47Speaker 20: pad if you put them on the ground. Setting that aside,
- 1:17:50Speaker 20: he'd also expressed he could tell in your eyes you
- 1:17:53Speaker 20: made a point that day to get drafted number four overall.
- 1:17:56Speaker 20: Can you provide some more detail what that visit and
- 1:17:58Speaker 20: workout was like you did to obviously deliver yourself as
- 1:18:02Speaker 20: a number four pick.
- 1:18:03Speaker 13: Yeah. I mean for me, it was just coming out
- 1:18:05Speaker 13: there and you know, giving them everything that they flew
- 1:18:08Speaker 13: down there to get, showing how intent I was, how
- 1:18:12Speaker 13: coachable I can be, and just really having all lives
- 1:18:16Speaker 13: on what they wanted to see whatever they wanted to see,
- 1:18:19Speaker 13: I was willing to do no matter what it was,
- 1:18:21Speaker 13: and that's something that I just wanted them to know
- 1:18:24Speaker 13: because I'm going to do whatever they asked me to
- 1:18:26Speaker 13: do to help this team win in any way that
- 1:18:28Speaker 13: I can.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:18:34Speaker 21: Congratulations, Welcome to New England. Mike Rabele was saying yesterday that,
- 1:18:38Speaker 21: you know, sounds like you're probably going to play left
- 1:18:40Speaker 21: tackle here at least give you that opportunity. What does
- 1:18:43Speaker 21: that mean to you and how important is that to
- 1:18:44Speaker 21: you to play left tackle?
- 1:18:46Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean it's a pretty cool opportunity to have.
- 1:18:50Speaker 13: You know, I'm just super thankful for them giving me
- 1:18:52Speaker 13: this opportunity, to them believing in me. I'm super excited
- 1:18:56Speaker 13: for what the future holds here and I really just
- 1:18:59Speaker 13: can't wait to get back out here after today and get.
- 1:19:02Speaker 8: Back to work.
- 1:19:06Speaker 22: Hi Will, congratulations on getting drafted. I'm just curious. I
- 1:19:09Speaker 22: know you were number sixty six at LSU and it
- 1:19:12Speaker 22: seems like you're gonna wear that here as well. Just
- 1:19:14Speaker 22: what's the significance of that number for you?
- 1:19:18Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean it's just something I started wearing my
- 1:19:20Speaker 13: freshman year in high school. That number is going with
- 1:19:24Speaker 13: me as I've grown as a player and I continue
- 1:19:27Speaker 13: to grow as a player. So I'm just super thankful
- 1:19:30Speaker 13: that Wes was able to, you know, let me wear
- 1:19:33Speaker 13: that and then it all just worked out. But yeah,
- 1:19:37Speaker 13: I'm just looking forward to.
- 1:19:38Speaker 23: It real nice to meet you. Congratulations. What has today
- 1:19:46Speaker 23: been like for you? What have you been doing? You know,
- 1:19:48Speaker 23: you got on the plane, you came here, what did
- 1:19:50Speaker 23: you do with the ownership group? And what have you
- 1:19:53Speaker 23: done since you've gotten here to Foxborough?
- 1:19:55Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean we flew in this morning, had some
- 1:19:58Speaker 13: breakfast things like that. It's just been really everybody meeting
- 1:20:01Speaker 13: my family. You know, we're out of the you know,
- 1:20:04Speaker 13: it's that interview process now it's you know, it's over.
- 1:20:08Speaker 13: So now it's all about, you know, the next step
- 1:20:11Speaker 13: and that's us getting ready to go play this coming
- 1:20:13Speaker 13: up season and you know, just being up here, you know,
- 1:20:16Speaker 13: still building a relationship with all the coaches and things
- 1:20:18Speaker 13: like that, meeting some of the guys. Uh So, yeah,
- 1:20:22Speaker 13: that's really what Canday has consisted of.
- 1:20:26Speaker 24: Hey, well, congratulations, welcome to New England.
- 1:20:29Speaker 23: I'm curious what does it make for you working with
- 1:20:30Speaker 23: Duke manny Weather.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: I know you guys have been doing some stuff together.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: And how do you feel like he's helped you advance
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: your game in the time that you have been together.
- 1:20:37Speaker 13: Uh, yeah, for sure. Duke is the best I think
- 1:20:39Speaker 13: when it comes you know, offensive line training. You know,
- 1:20:42Speaker 13: the guys that he trained speech for themselves.
- 1:20:45Speaker 8: I think.
- 1:20:45Speaker 13: You know this past season he trained eight Pro bowlers,
- 1:20:48Speaker 13: So you know, that's something that I want to be
- 1:20:49Speaker 13: a part of, you know, and he's very you know,
- 1:20:52Speaker 13: hands on. That's what I like.
- 1:20:53Speaker 8: That's what I like about coach Rabel.
- 1:20:55Speaker 13: Too, And so for me to be able to go
- 1:20:58Speaker 13: and work with him, I had the opportunity whenever I
- 1:21:00Speaker 13: was in college, and I knew that after the you know,
- 1:21:03Speaker 13: those two days they're training with him, that that's where
- 1:21:05Speaker 13: I was going to be as long as I'm playing, you, sir,
- 1:21:11Speaker 13: I will congratulations.
- 1:21:12Speaker 23: I'm just curious as you walked in today, your first
- 1:21:14Speaker 23: thoughts of Jillette Stadium.
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: That's awesome.
- 1:21:17Speaker 13: You know, whenever I came here for my thirty visit
- 1:21:19Speaker 13: right after the NFL Combine, you know, I walked in
- 1:21:22Speaker 13: here and came in right over there.
- 1:21:24Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:21:25Speaker 13: You know, whenever you come up here, you always see
- 1:21:26Speaker 13: it on TV and all the history, you know that
- 1:21:29Speaker 13: comes with this stadium. For me to be able to,
- 1:21:31Speaker 13: you know, put that jersey on and run out of
- 1:21:33Speaker 13: that tunnel here coming up soon is going to be
- 1:21:35Speaker 13: pretty special.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: Well, welcome to New England.
- 1:21:44Speaker 24: Just wondering Drake May posted last night on on X
- 1:21:49Speaker 24: he said love this guy already after some of your
- 1:21:53Speaker 24: comments last night, Just two questions. Have you had the
- 1:21:55Speaker 24: opportunity to speak with Drake May and just generally your
- 1:21:58Speaker 24: reaction to his comments.
- 1:21:59Speaker 13: Last Yeah, I mean that's my quarterback, so I'm just
- 1:22:03Speaker 13: super excited to continue to build the relationship with him,
- 1:22:07Speaker 13: get to know each other as People's something I'm looking
- 1:22:10Speaker 13: forward to. I'm a quarterback guy. I care about him
- 1:22:13Speaker 13: a lot off the field and on the field. And yeah,
- 1:22:16Speaker 13: we were able to talk. He met my family, so
- 1:22:19Speaker 13: that was pretty cool. We just talked for a little bit.
- 1:22:22Speaker 13: He had to do some stuff and things like that
- 1:22:24Speaker 13: and we had stuff to do. But you know, it
- 1:22:26Speaker 13: was short and sweet. But you know that relationship will
- 1:22:28Speaker 13: continue to grow, you know, as more as I'm up here.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: Hi, Well we'll come to New England.
- 1:22:36Speaker 21: I'm just wondering if you have a talk to Josh
- 1:22:38Speaker 21: McDaniels and how do you see yourself faking his offensive?
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:22:42Speaker 13: I was able to talk to, you know, coach McDaniels
- 1:22:44Speaker 13: whenever I was up here on my thirty visit, and
- 1:22:47Speaker 13: you know, he's been here for so long. I mean,
- 1:22:51Speaker 13: it's just an honor to play for him. He's coached
- 1:22:52Speaker 13: a lot of good offenses, you know, in his years here,
- 1:22:55Speaker 13: and I'm just super excited to get to work with him.
- 1:22:58Speaker 13: I'm gonna do whatever you ask of me, and I'm
- 1:23:00Speaker 13: just really honored to be able to play for him.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: And now great moments in.
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: History, you know, when we go to Ford Field to
- 1:23:12Speaker 6: play the Lions. Yeah, and they do that pregame show.
- 1:23:15Speaker 24: There's that kid who was like in his early thirties
- 1:23:17Speaker 24: maybe at most at most, and.
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: He's like, Hey, everybody, welcome to Ford Field. We're gonna
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: be talking about the dry Lions that.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: We're gonna be talking about the Ford travel Yeah, Like why.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: Do they do that?
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: Like why did that become a thing?
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: It's always been that way.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: Hi, everybody's Beth Mullions in the Angele's Chargers.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: But it lets me go to bed of the Bride.
- 1:23:43Speaker 7: And it's more that it looks a little cold today.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: That was like a mix voice and Harry carry right,
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: I would pay you.
- 1:23:52Speaker 19: One hundred dollars to do the rest of the show
- 1:23:54Speaker 19: just like that.
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: I love that's pretty that's what she said. That's another
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: great moment from all right back here on Patriots on
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Phil to Klevan Chasing joining us.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: No, I think that's it.
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: I think no, I think he got it.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: I think I don't know what what he what should
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: have said?
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: That's what he said, he did.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: He's a cale, he said.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: It's Caleb.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: We could go back WorldWind the tape of what it's like.
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: We have the tapers.
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: Chason came in.
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: Thank you to Chase on for coming in. But No,
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: that was good to see him. First time I've talked
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: to him.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: First time, we'd Yeah, first time any of us have talked.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know I would thought you were going
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: to be more excited.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I was mad at him.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: He's an edge guy.
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: No, I was excited now that any noises an edge guy.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: He's That's why I asked.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Him about having a good year last year. You know,
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: it seemed to come together a little bit.
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: I mean, I give him a lot of credit for
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: kind of tip of the cap.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Max Crosby on the other side of rushing. It does
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: make things a.
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: Little bit easier when you're going across from that guy.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: But but now it's pressed with him, and yeah, I
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: mean they need him this year. Hopefully he can build
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: on what he did last year.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: Energy.
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: I think it just is another example of sort of
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: changing things over and trying to create a different culture
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: than what they had.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: You can hear it.
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: You can hear the enthusiasm and the energy in his voice.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: Now that doesn't mean anything, I know for you get
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: that scoffing. Look, if you can't play, he can't play, right.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: He's going to have to produce on the field, right.
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: But I just I kind of like the vibe of
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: these guys that are coming in to talk to us,
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: some of them we haven't ever met before.
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: I like the vibe and see why he would want
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: to be here because there's tons of opportunity for him.
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: I mean, if he wants to build on that year,
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: if it all wants to click for him, and I
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: guess this year six, I guess you know he's gonna
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: have the opportunity.
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: To signed a one year deal too, so he might
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: hit the market again next offseason if he has a
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: good year here and then he had one of his
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: very years last year. Then the Zach Patrick mahomes a
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: couple of times.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: It looks like your people are going to have a
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: tough time figuring out who the good Guy of the
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: Year award is. Oh yeah, sounds like we've got a
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: lot of good guys.
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: Yes, we have a lot of a lot of good guys.
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: That's true in some uh, you know, good guys that
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: have now departed so like they're out of the running
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: for the good Guy Award. They're still good guys, they're
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: just not lost three really guys.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: The media does an annual good Guy award, the guy who.
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: Maybe this year will get you know, ahead of time.
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: I will find out five minutes before.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: It's all right, what are you gonna do?
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Spiing Fresno says Paul is now responsible for elaborating on
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: what a tough gold looks like? Is it mustard yellow?
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: Has the gold worn down with time and use? Maybe
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: light is refracted differently now that Paul's clothing rests more
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: vertically than horizontally. As Linda Richmond would say, talk amongst you,
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: that's yellow. He snapped, Oh no, he corrected me quickly,
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, true, L s U.
- 1:26:53Speaker 8: Gold.
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: It is funny, like those.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: Are the types of make up play Terry Clinton, what
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: are we doing a play on ball?
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: Nobody knows what you're talking about.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: Just threw a showing Aaron Glenn highways on on NFL network.
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: You know, Aaron Glenn was the coach of the Jets,
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: and I didn't know that.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: I didn't know if it was true or not, but
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: it is.
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: Hates everybody and everything in the league, especially the seventy Steelers.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: Oh no, everybody and everything.
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: Way to get me started on the seventy Steiers. I
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: heard the ball boy got into the Pro Football Hall
- 1:27:24Speaker 6: of Fame on the seventies Steelers.
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: You know us we're we're trying to you know, the
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: Patriots dynasty. It's like trying to pull teeth. But you know,
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: I heard the third string long snapper and the seventy
- 1:27:35Speaker 6: Steelers in the Pro Football Fame and the.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Water blay on the Steelers had like a six gallon jug.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: He was just walking down with one armhold.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: He's got a bust and can You're right there was
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: too much uh, too many Steelers got in at that time.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: I don't know why.
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: Would you care to elaborate, No, I just think there
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: was which one, A lot of all of them, A
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: lot of them. That's what I was getting at all
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: of them.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Not even.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: A great player I.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: Would shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: Lin Swans.
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: I think Stalwart has a better case than Swan.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Well, then they both shouldn't be.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: I think Star Wars should be like.
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: The classic one of the tastic guys that should like
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: the people say it should.
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: And it's also different, like a Julian Edelman.
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: It's like a very different wow, wow, wow, very different
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: era of football. They didn't throw it as much. Their
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: numbers would be dwarfed by guys that will even won't
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: ever sniff the Hall of Fame. Now those two, but
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: I mean Jack Lambert, I didn't say anything about Terry Bradshaw,
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: Like those guys aren't Hall of Famer.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Reno from Knoxville, Tennessee. I haven't been this static about
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: the draft class since Chandler Jones High Tower. I'm really
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: happy we got Campbell. I can't decide if I like
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Henderson or Williams. Pick more. If we can hit on
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: three or four of these picks, that means we're headed
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: in the right direction, and I'll be so full of
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: joy and hope. Also, you all were great over the weekend.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I didn't listen live because I love watching it on TV,
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: but I listened the next day and so I could
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: listen to your reactions. Keep up the great work. Well,
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: thank you.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: I don't care with the I don't care when you listen,
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: just so you get three or four guys that turn
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: out to be frontline players.
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: That's how you that's how you rebuilt quickly.
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: I feel like the guy that doesn't get mentioned because
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: of the position that might have the cleanest path besides
- 1:29:30Speaker 6: Will Campbell is Jared Wilson. Like Jared Wilson, for most
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: people believe that Jared Wilson is going to be a
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: really good starting center in the NFL. Now it's a
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: center versus hitting on a wide receiver. I understand that.
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: But if there's a guy other than Will Campbell who
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: I feel like is going to be a starter in
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: this league for a decent amount of time, it's going
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: to be Jared Wilson. So don't don't sleep on him either.
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: I feel like he's absolutely Yeah. They talk a lot
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: about the skill players, but not so much about center.
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: I mean, what are some of the good h petitions
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: position competitions. Left guard feels wide open. Center maybe not
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: wide open, but Brad Berry is there as a placeholder.
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: Roles aid receiver, Yeah, roles that receiver is a good
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: way to put it.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: A little bit of roles at running back, but not
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: Tight ends pretty much set, you know, defensive front probably
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: pretty much set, just because you have a handful of
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: guys that are the guys.
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Slot corner maybe that's a that's a question.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: Corner corner.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: That extra safety, I don't know if if that's going
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: to be, you know, if they'll have like four corners
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: and two safeties or if they need you know, Jalen
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: Hawkins or Craig Woodson or whoever.
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: Else another kicker competition this summer. I kind of enjoy those.
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: I mean, it's just adds a little bit of flavor
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: to the very end.
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: Ink wasted on that every year founds me. I mean,
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: I I write it every day. I right the wrap
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: up of the field goal kicking results every day, and
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: so I do it too. I'm guilty.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: I wonder everybody else, I wonder how practice will look
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: compared to past years, because we sort of like last
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: year was pretty similar to you know the structure of it,
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: but I.
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: Last year was a noticeable difference in how long it
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: took them to start practicing. It seemed like they were
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: on the field for like somewhere between forty five minutes
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: and an hour and fifteen minutes with.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: Just dropped throughs and stretching and drills before they actually practiced.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Seven on seven or eleven on eleven. Yeah, so I
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: wonder how Vrabel will do it this year.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I definitely look at the back of cornerback competition.
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: You know, you have Alex Austin, Isaiah Bolden, Marcella's Dial, Uh,
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: you know those guys, And I was kind of reconfiguring, uh,
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: you know, the depth chart and the roster last night.
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: I was looking at that and it's like, all right,
- 1:31:41Speaker 6: you feel really good about Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis obviously,
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: but the depth behind that, you know, someone's going to
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: have to kind of step up and be that third corner,
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: you know, because you assume Marcus Jones will probably play
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: a lot in the slot. So you know who's is
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: it Austin, is it Bolden? Is it Dial? Is it
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: when we're not thinking about it's it's a little thin there.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: If I had even I mean, maybe he's in the
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: next Yeah, probably a little high for him.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: But Iowa Tim writes in there was not any pick
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: where it said what the crap are they doing? All
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: the way to the end, I got it. It made sense,
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: getting what is needed today and tomorrow. Notice they are
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: cleaning house already. A bunch of guys gone. Yeah.
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: Do you guys remember off the top of your head
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: any Belichick drafts that made no sense at the time,
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: and then between a year to two later you were like, oh,
- 1:32:30Speaker 5: now I get what he's going for, because I honestly don't.
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: I don't either.
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: I mean I can think of a lot of guys,
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: you know, and everybody would make fun of us because
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: Fred was part of this too, Like we would sit
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: there and say, Duke Dawson, you know, Juwan Williams. I
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: can remember a lot of those kinds of picks that
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: raised our eyebrows and didn't pan out ras I Dowling,
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: you know, like what like that seemed like three rounds early?
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: You know, I think a twenty two drift maybe.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: Like dron Harmon.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: Doron Harmon's a guy that I think that we all
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: were like that seems a little early for him, and
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: he turned out to have, you know, a pretty solid career.
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe he'd be an example of that.
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: Yeah, seems more and more of that as he got
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: into the twenty tens. I mean Fred mentioned Rossie Dowling
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: twenty eleven.
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: I think, yes, absolutely, And I say this all the time.
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: There's a I think a revisionist history with the Devin
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: mccordy pick that you know, and I saw it actually
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: repeated recently as this pre draft period came up. Devin
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: mccordy was scheduled to be a late first early second
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: round pick. His profile talked about how he would be
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: effective on all four downs, and people glombed onto that
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: last part of me like they drafted a special team.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: No one really said that, but it was kind of
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: like a mocking punchline, and then all of a sudden,
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: it was like building it again.
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: Well, I like everybody did question the pick.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: They did, but not where he was taken, like people
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: questioned the Jordan Richard's pick because it was five rounds
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: before everybody else thought he was going to go. Devin
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: mccordy went when exactly where he was supposed.
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: That might be true. I mean, it's the same with
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: Kyle Dugger. People were like, oh, but he was scheduled
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: to go where he went. But I do remember, guarantee
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: you they got an A on the draft. I do guarantee.
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: I do remember at the time people questioning the mccordy pick.
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: I remember, he's not really good at anything. He's not
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: good enough at anything to be a first round pick,
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: is what I heard.
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: I don't remember hearing.
- 1:34:29Speaker 10: I do.
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: I remember people questioning the pick because they wanted somebody
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: else that's different. But like Jordan Richards, Tavon, Wilson, Strange,
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: Cole Strange, these are guys that were drafted and everybody said, like,
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: what are we doing? Though everybody else has these guys
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: as day three guys, and we're taking him early day two.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: That I remember, I mean mccordy, I don't. I remember
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: people not necessarily loving the mccordy pick. Fred's right about that,
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: but not like, what are we doing? We picked a
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: third three guy in the first round, like I don't
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: remember people doing.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Vohmer was questioned he was a second round pick out
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: of Houston.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: Volmer was definitely questioned he didn't. He wasn't invited to
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: the combine. He had the back problems. Uh, they thought
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: he was a project. I remember he was asked specifically
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: in the post draft press Carmence. Bill was asked, if
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: you know, is this guy kind of a project for
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: round two? And Bill got his back up. No, it's
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: not a project.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: Maybe I'm wrong here, I'm just kind of flying off
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: the cuff, but it seems like when you look at Bill,
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: some of his best performances weren't necessarily pulling performances out
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: of players he drafted, like we're talking about. It was
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: more pulling those performances out I would say, like free
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: agents and guys that were acquired that way, you know
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: what I mean, like like a sterling More type, you know.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: Like like just some of those years when he knew
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: they didn't have the horses.
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: It was never that, Oh, now all of a sudden,
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: Tevon Austin has stepped up and played well. It was
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: you know when they did out guys step up and
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: play well.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: I felt like, I don't know, I.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: Mean, I feel about every team has those though.
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: They would they would find they would find some guys
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: on the scrap heap, and I think Bill would identify
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: a specific skill set that he had that would work
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: for him, you know, like Kyle Van Noy as an example.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: You know that that came over a key Mayers did it.
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: You know, it wasn't a great player, but I think
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: Bill asked something very specific out of him that he
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: could do for sure, and he contributed. You know, you
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: know Mark Anderson the year that he came in and
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: had like ten sacks.
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, is a good one that I remember Kyle
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: Van noy is saying, you know, Detroit was asking me
- 1:36:29Speaker 6: to do ABC. Bill grabbed me and asked me to
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: do X y Z, and I was better at X
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: y Z, and so it automatically just.
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: I think he's good at that. I think that was Bill,
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: And I think Bill was one of those guys that
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: could sort of better extrapolate from guys that were in
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: the NFL. Yeah, those skills transit.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: There's a few like Steven Neil for example, he did
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: a good job at like identifying the skills required.
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: I give that Dante okay, but only because he identified
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: a skill set and put him on the defensive line.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: Yeah you know what I mean. Yeah, it was Dante
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: that said, you know, let me work with them, Okay,
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: And then and then of course Edelman in the seventh
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: round picking a quarterback from Kent and knowing he's not
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: gonna be a quarterback, but he.
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: Can pay what you're gonna do. He can play football,
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: you know, and you don't tell anybody what position you're playing.
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, if you're excited about if you're excited about
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: the Patriots draft, and you'd think ever thought about working
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, you can you can uh go to
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: the Craft group dot com slash careers and apply today
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: for seasonal positions in the food and beverage, parking and
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: security divisions. That means, you know, you could be working
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: on game days here and and uh you know, be
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: part of the actions. So again, if you looking for
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: some extra cash, go to the craftgroup dot com slash careers,
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: apply today, and you know, see what they have available.
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: I think they have times where you can come down
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: to the stadium and get that process going.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: How old do you have to be, Fred, you know,
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I think eighteen.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't even getting kids down here. I think
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: Bart was younger. I think he might be sixteen.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: Was he the bartender at that time?
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: No, because he's too young to sell alcohol. They had
- 1:38:12Speaker 6: him selling like cracker jack, so really yeah, yeah, he
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: used to do that at the stadium.
- 1:38:17Speaker 2: You mean like at a concession booth.
- 1:38:19Speaker 21: No, he was.
- 1:38:21Speaker 6: Hawker. Yeah, yeah, you know, he grew up in Sharon,
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: so he grew up right down there.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: So like, would he get into arguments with people like
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: you know that? I don't know, but you don't really
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: don't want to combine pepsi with that, you want to
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: get a pepsi with this.
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: I'm sure he, you know, cheated on a bunch of
- 1:38:39Speaker 6: occasions and actually was watching the game instead of selling.
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: I thought, you're going to start eating the food he
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: was trying to.
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: I mean maybe that too.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: Yeah, did you do Patriots Schames?
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: He were Patriots Schames or yeah? No, I think I
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: think a little bit of both. Yeah. Wow, he's told
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: the story before. On When I read that ad the
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: first time, I was like, this is you Yeah.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: So his career is going downhill?
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: Yes?
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Iggy Iggy from Spain Madrid writes in best draft coverage ever,
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: Good Chemistry and the Crew. The reference that Paul made
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: to Rivers and tides maybe laugh epic discussion onto the draft.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: I like it because it is logical. Needed a left tackle,
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: drafted one, needed help it, half back, wide receiver, drafted
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: two players. Of course, you never know. If the guys
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: can't play, this would be a horrible draft. But doing
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: logical things normally bring better results than doing illogical ones
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: like drafting cold strange in the first round. I also
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: noticed a lot of people in the war room. Was
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: it more crowded in the Belichick male era or is
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: this a wrong impression? I think it was more crowd
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: think it was a little bit more now now, yeah,
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: from what I heard, I never sort of looked to me,
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: I never go down. But from the people who were
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: there every year, they said they probably were more people there.
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: So Iggy's comment, I would have to say, is that's
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: a paraphrasing of the comment that I've received the most.
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: I would say in the two or three days, people
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: that are asking me, you know, friends on the street, whatever,
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: people on Twitter, you know, what do you think logical?
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: I've heard that word a lot.
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: The picks made sense to people, and Iggy's right, you know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: it made sense to draft a guard when you didn't
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: have a guard you needed to plug one in, but
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: it wasn't the.
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: Right guy well, and it wasn't the right place, right. Yeah, so.
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: It can all make sense and not work. But I
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: think that that's probably the comment that I've heard the
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: most was I get it. These picks all made sense
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: to me. They didn't reach, they stuck to the board.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: They took positions of need that were deep positions of talent,
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: and I think people are excited about that.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I think it's to me too, it's more than just
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: the positions.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: It's the type and that, like I've been saying the
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: whole time, like I want to fast wide receiver, Like
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: we talked a lot about types of wide receivers, and
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: not only did they add the explosive wide receiver, but
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: they add an explosive.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: Running back too.
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: So it's the traits to me too, that are really
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: checking the boxes that I feel like they needed to check.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:41:13Speaker 6: You know, Elliott Wolf talked about or being more organized,
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: and some people took that certain ways, and like, I
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: just feel like it's a nice mix of personalities that
- 1:41:23Speaker 6: they have right now, of like guys like Rabel and
- 1:41:26Speaker 6: guys like Stretch, who's more of like administrative football and
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: Ryan Cowden with his experience, it just it seemed like
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: it helped Elliott Wolf kind of settle things down in
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: terms of, you know, delegating and you know, really being
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: able to trust people to help him, be able to
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: kind of see from the thirty thousand foot view, because
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: I think he's always been, at his heart a scout
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: and I think Elliot Wolf does have an eye for talent,
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: but maybe needed some help with like sort of you know,
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: organizing the process. And I think that that's where a
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: lot of these guys that they've added to the to
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: the room now, you know, it seemed like it was
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: really the those guys in the Loonzo Highsmith that we're
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: doing the real heavy lifting for the draft, and it
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: seemed just so much more fluid and organized with that group.
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: I think very what I heard.
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: Yeah, Abele just seems to have a vision of what
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: he wants, and I think that makes it just easier
- 1:42:18Speaker 5: on everybody because you know what you're looking for, you
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: have your marching orders, you know which guys should be
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: in and what should be out. And I think it
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: seems like he's communicating that clearly to the staff and
- 1:42:27Speaker 5: that's what you get it makes sense.
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: Yep, Sean and Vancouver on the hotline. What's up Sean.
- 1:42:34Speaker 16: Hey, I'm just gonna take you up baker phone. Trying
- 1:42:37Speaker 16: to get a couple of things. So when people are
- 1:42:41Speaker 16: talking about this draft, uh in glowing terms. You know,
- 1:42:45Speaker 16: you're getting these amazing ratings from from the media. Uh,
- 1:42:51Speaker 16: not to say that this is going to be what happens.
- 1:42:54Speaker 15: We don't know.
- 1:42:55Speaker 16: We have to wait and see how to play. So
- 1:42:58Speaker 16: but this is what I wanted to see, something that
- 1:43:02Speaker 16: aligns more with the consensus, big bore. And that's why
- 1:43:06Speaker 16: they're getting the grapes they're getting because the players that
- 1:43:10Speaker 16: they selected were ones that are falling to them, the
- 1:43:12Speaker 16: ones that they expect, not the head scratchers that been
- 1:43:15Speaker 16: made in the past. So it's more like drafts that
- 1:43:18Speaker 16: the Eagles and Ravens have been doing, going along that
- 1:43:21Speaker 16: kind of approach. Now, the other thing I want to
- 1:43:25Speaker 16: say is like when I called in on Thursday and
- 1:43:28Speaker 16: I mentioned the fullback, what I meant wasn't that we're
- 1:43:31Speaker 16: going to go back to Dublin and running the fullback
- 1:43:33Speaker 16: on most of our basic plays. I meant more like,
- 1:43:36Speaker 16: you know, six to ten plays a game, more like
- 1:43:39Speaker 16: a Tory Carter because one area the Patriots really needed
- 1:43:43Speaker 16: help in last year was in short yardage and maybe
- 1:43:46Speaker 16: this could also help Drake, may do some more play
- 1:43:50Speaker 16: action or just quarterbacks seeking and stuff like that, even
- 1:43:54Speaker 16: when you have the fullback in there. So that's what
- 1:43:55Speaker 16: I was trying to get at, that they were going
- 1:43:58Speaker 16: to take up undrafted free a.
- 1:44:00Speaker 8: And they still.
- 1:44:01Speaker 16: I know, Devan, you were kind of time and cheek,
- 1:44:03Speaker 16: but yeah, I think that that might be important to
- 1:44:05Speaker 16: player just for a two plays.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: All right, thanks Sean.
- 1:44:08Speaker 6: I'm an advocate for the fullback. I love fullbacks. I
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: think they bring a lot of schematic advantages to not
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: just a run game, but also a play action pass
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: offense as well. And nowadays you see different formations where
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: the quarterback is in the gun or in the pistol
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: and they still have an offset lead blocker in the
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: full back and you call it a sidecar formation, and
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: like you can do that now or you're not under center.
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: But the ability to have the full back go in
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: either direction and add blocks onto either side of the
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: formation with that unpredictability, and then to sequence that together
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: with the same look. But it's play action, you know,
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: those things can be really difficult to decipher for defenses,
- 1:44:49Speaker 6: so I wouldn't.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: I don't think it's worth having a full back for
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: five or six plays a game.
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: I think a full back, you know, certainly for a
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: short yardage like that could be worth. But the teams
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: that that implement a full back and use it to
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: maximize our teams that like base with a full back
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: on the field, right, you know, like the forty nine
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: ers or the Miami Dolphins or teams like that that
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: really use the full back, like I was saying as
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: as sort of you know, a schematic ring Mike Alstott. Oh, yes,
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: well Mike all Star was also running.
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: But yeah, I understand that Paul is saying in terms of, like,
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: you know, those guys don't bring a lot, you know,
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: to the passing game.
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: In terms of just thinking those guys are special, like
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: Kyle Yushchik is a special player. Yeah, Like, and that
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: allows you to open up a lot of things for
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: your offense. I would never argue with you on in
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: terms of the creativity that that allows you. But I
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: think those guys are special.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: I don't think that James Devlin was capable of opening
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: that up for you. James Devlin was a plow horse
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: who helped you in the running game. Absolutely twenty eighteen.
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: That was a big part of their power. And not
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: to get I'll have it on you, you know, like,
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: but that was a big part of the running game.
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: And that's fine, you can do that. I don't want
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: to play that way, but that's me. I'm stubborn, but
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: you know, totally admit that I'm stubborn.
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: They averaged over eleven yards per play action pass attempt
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: with Devilon on the field in eighteen because they they're
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: showing the same formation and the same look to the defense.
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: So when he leads up through the hole, the linebacker
- 1:46:22Speaker 6: is going to come down to try to meet him
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: in the hole. And then it's Brady still got the
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: ball and he's throwing it right by his ear right.
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: And those types of things are Josh McDaniels. You know,
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: Josh McDaniels loves himself some iso like just run the
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: full back right through the middle of the line of scrimmage.
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: The bat goes right behind him. Like that's a staple,
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: day one install type of play for McDaniels.
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: When it works, it works.
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: Who's this guy on NFL Network comparing travon On Henderson
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: to Marshall Fock.
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: I don't know, like this is the type of draft
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: analysis that just drives me crazy, Like this is how
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: you set up people to fail, you know, and you're
- 1:46:55Speaker 6: you're saying, like Ashton Gent is going to be the
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: next Ladanian Tomlinson, like.
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: They said Jones Drew, Yeah, that was that was his
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: that was his compln Dons Philly Hey Don, Hey.
- 1:47:10Speaker 25: Guys, I just want to say love to the draft
- 1:47:13Speaker 25: and obviously hindsight is twenty twenty, but just wanted to
- 1:47:17Speaker 25: bring up two hypotheticals and you know they are mutually
- 1:47:21Speaker 25: exclusives to take it for what it is, but so
- 1:47:25Speaker 25: we took Campbell and Henderson. If you look back, would
- 1:47:29Speaker 25: you have preferred having gens a nursery you wouldn't have
- 1:47:33Speaker 25: had the trade up. And then, like I said, it's
- 1:47:36Speaker 25: mutually exclusive. If you go from second to third round pick,
- 1:47:39Speaker 25: would you rather have Luther Burden and Dylan Samson or
- 1:47:44Speaker 25: keep Henderson and Kyle Williams Nanks guys.
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and I've heard that before, like the second ones
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: are gonna be yeah, worth keeping an eye on.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: But the whole thing you know genty and nursery, I
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: get it. But if the Patriots had taken genty at four,
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: other things would have happened, you know, the butterfly effect.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: Ursery may not have been available, like you don't know,
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: like if they had taken they would.
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: Have been more likely to be available because it would
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: be an extra tackle.
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: And I don't know, I don't know, like things happen like.
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: So it adds a tackle to the available I understand
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: it's kind of illogical that a tackle was available even
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: when Will Campbell did get taken.
- 1:48:22Speaker 3: Wouldn't be available if he hadn't.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: Yeah, but butterfly effect thing like things.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: The second part of that I think is going to
- 1:48:28Speaker 4: be worth keeping track of. It's going to be this
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: year's version of Tayekwon Thornton instead of George Pickens and
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: Ale Pierce in Scott. You know you're going to have all, yeah,
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: paulkan McConkey, all my references that's, you know, instead of
- 1:48:44Speaker 4: the one that's right in front of me from last year.
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: The second part of that, when he's talking about Dylan Samson,
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: you know how much difference is that, you know, could
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: could you have done better? Why would you rather have
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: the better wide receiver in the lesser running back, or
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: the better running back and the lesser wide receiver. Like
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: that's basically what you're coming down to.
- 1:49:03Speaker 15: Now.
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: Ideally you hit on both, and Kyle Williams is going
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: to be a better wide receiver than Luther Burden, who
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: has character issues, and that's the reason why he would
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: have been available to you at thirty eight or whatever
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: it was that we picked thirty six thirty thirty eight,
- 1:49:18Speaker 4: So you had an opportunity to pick him. If he's
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: better than Kyle Williams, that's a that's a legitimate second guess.
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: Well, I mean, yeah, yes and no, because I don't
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: think they were ever going to take Luther Burdens.
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: But that doesn't mean they're right, like you put it,
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: but they got on you do not draft list. That
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: doesn't mean that you were right to do that. If
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: the guy has a ten year career, never has any problem.
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: Sure, sure, I just I look at the process and like,
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: like Urser, I think is the same, is similar, but
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: not quite as egregious as Luther Burden. Maybe, But I
- 1:49:48Speaker 6: think there were a real uh you know, kind of
- 1:49:51Speaker 6: hearing some of the stories of about Ersery It kind
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: of reminded me of Trent Brown, right like.
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: Just like so effort and I would also say, and
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: I'm gonna lazy out of the street. Yeah, I didn't
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: really hear a lot of people telling me that Ersery
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: was on a level with Will Campbell, right Like, I'd
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: heard a lot of people telling me that Luther Burton
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: is arguably the best wide receiver in the class. So
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: I think, even at full strength, high motor, Ursery, I
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: don't think is as good as Will Campbell. You add
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: in all the stuff that Evan just talked about, that
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: makes it a no brainer.
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: In other words, if I'm sitting here telling you that
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: Ersery should they should have waited for Ursery, like, that's
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: twenty twenty hindsight. That's not what anybody. Anybody thought. Now,
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: there's a lot of people that thought Kyle Wims good
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: wide receiver. There are others that are better. So if
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: they end up being right, then you might have missed. Now,
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: this is the flip side of that is trevi On
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: Henderson as the as the caller said, is he that
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: much better than the guys that go after him? Because
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: there was a run on running backs shortly after the
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: Patriots took him. I think Henderson's really really good player,
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: but that doesn't mean we're right. And what if some
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: of these guys that that they could have had in
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: the third round or the fourth round or better.
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I just wish that there was an there never
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: will be. So this is just a me thing.
- 1:51:07Speaker 3: But it's just one of those.
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: But like, but like the context has always missed when
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: we when we go through these in hindsight of like
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: the Patriots were never going to draft George Pickens, Like
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: I don't George Pickens was a much better prospect than
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: the guys that were going around him.
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: He went where he.
- 1:51:23Speaker 6: Went because of the of his character, I agree, and
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: because of the red flags, so he he was not
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: on their board, like they were never going to draft him.
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: I feel that. I don't know for a fact, But
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: I feel the same way about Luther Burden. Like I
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: don't think that they passed on Luther Burden because they
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: thought Treyvon Henderson was a better player. I think they
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: passed on Luther Burden because he wasn't a programmed guy
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: and it wasn't get through.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: You're evaluating the draft five years from now, right, You're like, well,
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: were they wrong and having Luther Burden on their.
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: Board, And that's my point, like they've taken guys that
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: other teams have had off their boys right right, that
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: haven't worked out. And I don't think I need to
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: say names specifically. I think you guys can fit figure
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: it out here.
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: Sure, So one that's part of the everybody, Yeah there's
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: a couple, but I don't say that name.
- 1:52:08Speaker 4: There's like that's part of the dram with Fred. I
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: think that's part of your draft evaluation, right, did you
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: get the character right too?
- 1:52:15Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: I mean you got the talent right, But will you
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: right to say I'm not going to take him at
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: thirty eight?
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: He's off my board, right.
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: I just am preparing Luther Burden unless he goes. Luther
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: Burden's gonna have a good NFL career, Like he's going
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: to be a good player. He is a good player,
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: and they're going to be just like George Pickens, there's
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: going to be bumps along the road where it flares up,
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: so I would know and will put that into context,
- 1:52:38Speaker 6: like it's just going to be they missed on George
- 1:52:40Speaker 6: Pickens again, and in this time it was Luther Burden.
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: You're right, that is what But I will not do that,
- 1:52:47Speaker 4: and I will actually give deuces flowers who was really
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: on the George Pickens bandwagon when it when it happened
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: about this guy's this guy's tough. You read a lot
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: about this guy. I don't know if that's that's the
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: guy you want to bring in. I would say, based
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: on what's happened so far, if the Patriots in fact
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: did not have Pickens on their board, I would say
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: they were right because these are the kinds of things
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: that they were worried about, and they have happened. Even
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: though he's productive, No one doubted his talent. He's been productive,
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: but he's a handful. And I agree with Evan there's
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: context to this. If Luther Burden is like Pickens, I
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: would say, no, like he's been Okay, he's produced, but
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: he's a lot.
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: And you know you mentioned the word context. Even five
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: years from now, you have to remember what the context
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: is back then and right now we're building a culture.
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: Maybe they didn't think they could absorb somebody like a
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: Luther Burden. Where five years from now, assuming everything goes
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: right and they've got that culture, then okay, now we
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: can bring in a player like that, so it context
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: has everything to do with it.
- 1:53:54Speaker 4: I agree with your point, though there's nuance to all
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: and it's too often it's black and white.
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: That guy's a good player, like last year.
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: You know, I personally feel like medical is a little
- 1:54:06Speaker 6: bit different. But Lad McConkie did have injuries in college
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: that people were worried about. We're gonna carry over to
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: the pros. There's no doubt about it that Lad McConkie
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: looks like a much better football player than Jalen Polk.
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: But well, let's see in like after four years, maybe
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: the medical concerns end up.
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: But in that one, I steer more towards like they
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: missed the evaluation me too, But like when it didn't
- 1:54:30Speaker 6: when it comes to character stuff. But like this is
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: just all the little things that you know, they have
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: to take into consideration that when I'm doing a mock draft,
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: if Lad McConkie pulls a hamstring like it doesn't you
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: know what difference does it make?
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: But I just evaluate the guy.
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: Right, I just watched the tape, right, you know.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Right, Tony's in Pennsylvania.
- 1:54:46Speaker 26: Hey, Tony, Hey was going on guys, I got two
- 1:54:52Speaker 26: questions and just some stats to read off to you guys.
- 1:54:56Speaker 26: Do you guys agree that this will be a make
- 1:54:58Speaker 26: or break year or training camp if he makes it
- 1:55:02Speaker 26: out of training camp for the Mario Douglas And also,
- 1:55:06Speaker 26: despite Drake having a terrible line, the Mario Douglas was
- 1:55:11Speaker 26: still on the field. He ranked eighty first and touchdowns
- 1:55:15Speaker 26: with three sixty first and yards with six hundred and
- 1:55:19Speaker 26: couples and also thirty ninth and receptions with sixty six.
- 1:55:25Speaker 26: And these guys agree that Kendrick most likely is out
- 1:55:30Speaker 26: of the lineup.
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: I I kind of agree with Bourn what makes makes
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: sense with with pop, I would say that last year
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: it was hard to evaluate because the room wasn't that
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: good and he seemed yeah, he seemed like one of
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: the best of that room. But now you know, now
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: you have Digs in here and Kyle Williams, Now it
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: might be a better comparison and tougher form. But so like,
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: if he is the fourth receiver on this team, that'll
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: be fine.
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: Yeah, he was a sixth round pick. I don't know
- 1:56:05Speaker 6: what you were expecting him to be any better than that.
- 1:56:08Speaker 6: Like the numbers are that of like a third or
- 1:56:11Speaker 6: fourth receiver, which is all he really could have expected
- 1:56:14Speaker 6: him to be. So I think right now he's way
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: over performed his draft slot. Like he was drafted in
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: the sixth round, but he's an NFL player.
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: We're comparing him like the room last year wasn't that good.
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: But I think he I'm I'm not the biggest Jamario
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: Douglas guy. You guys know that, you know, But I'm
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: not talking about the person. I'm talking about the player.
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: He's what Evan just said, He's a fourth receiver, third
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: or fourth guy at best.
- 1:56:38Speaker 6: He's a slot guy on But he's a sixth round.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: Pick who played two years. Why are we ranking him
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: among the entire NFL?
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: How many sixth round picks from his draft class were
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: better than that? Like, let's compare him to what he
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: should be.
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, well it's it's it doesn't matter what you know,
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: what you do when you get here.
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think he's done well. He's in the NFL,
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: But I don't think there's a lot of guys that
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: are in the NFL that get drafted.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: Where he is. No, But my point is, at some
- 1:57:06Speaker 2: point you got to forget about where he got drafted.
- 1:57:09Speaker 21: No.
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: Fred I'm not talking about he's a star. He's not
- 1:57:14Speaker 3: a star.
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: I'm saying he's a complimentary piece. That's what you hoped
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: that he'd be. That's exactly what he's He hasn't like outperformed, underperformed,
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: like you hope that you have some depth pieces when
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: you pick in day three.
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: That's what he is.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: Well, that's why I said, if he ends up being
- 1:57:31Speaker 2: the fourth receiver of the team, that's great for that's
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: what that's really good.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: I just feel like if you're expecting him to be
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: more than that, I don't know what you thought you
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: were getting.
- 1:57:40Speaker 6: Yes, make or break, I like, I don't. I'd like
- 1:57:44Speaker 6: I think that he is who he is, Like he's
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: a complimentary piece, like he's a he's a slide, like
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: a third receiver.
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: For respecting him to catch one hundred and twenty balls,
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: well I mean I know, But I mean I just
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: would hope that having better receivers around him will just
- 1:57:58Speaker 4: make life a little bit easier for him, maybe take
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: some of the heat off of him to have to
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: be the constant guy getting open.
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: But he's not gonna rise up the rank like the
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: caller was ranking him. That's numbers aren't gonna increase because
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: he has better receivers around him. I think he might
- 1:58:13Speaker 2: be more effective in the role that he is if
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: it's a fourth receiver, but these other receivers are gonna
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: have better or not.
- 1:58:18Speaker 6: I mean, just looking at it, like his receiving yards
- 1:58:21Speaker 6: and receptions against his draft class, like they're guys that
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: are that were drafted. I mean, besides Puko's just turns
- 1:58:27Speaker 6: out to be a freak. But like all these other
- 1:58:29Speaker 6: guys that are in the same territory of him were
- 1:58:31Speaker 6: top one hundred picks and he was drafted at two
- 1:58:33Speaker 6: hundred and ten and they got a player. You know,
- 1:58:35Speaker 6: Quinton Johnson was drafted twenty first overall, and Pop has
- 1:58:38Speaker 6: better production than Quinton Johnson does.
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: He did, but again, would you have that production if
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: the room was better?
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: So you think he's like a good stats, bad team
- 1:58:48Speaker 6: kind of guy.
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: It was default don't.
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: But I don't even I just don't know what you're expecting.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: Do you watch him play? Forget about the production, the
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: numbers whatever. People think that this is the next Edelman
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: and Welker, That's not what he is. Like, watch him play.
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: He doesn't have that kind of ability like, I think
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: he's been perfectly fine, but I think that people are
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: expecting him to be the next in line. Yeah, this
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: like unbelievably productive.
- 1:59:14Speaker 6: He's a really good man coverage, you know separator. His
- 1:59:18Speaker 6: feel for his own coverage needs work, and like if
- 1:59:20Speaker 6: he can develop.
- 1:59:21Speaker 3: His catch radius is so tiny.
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: Yeah, if he can develop, like you know, knowing when
- 1:59:25Speaker 6: to settle down and know, you know, finding those like
- 1:59:28Speaker 6: that's what Edelman and Welcome we're so good at. We're
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: like finding those little soft spots. If he can take
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: that next step, then maybe there is more production for him.
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: But right now, he's really just like you know, if
- 1:59:38Speaker 6: they play man to man, then he's a guy that
- 1:59:40Speaker 6: can get open against man coverage. That that's what he
- 1:59:42Speaker 6: does best.
